Traveling at freeway speed, vehicle lights all flickered the lost power..engine continued to run, was able to coast vehicle to shoulder of 35w, apply brakes and stop.turned off vehicle and restarted within a few minutes. No lights no dash lights..flooring the gas pedal able to get 30 mph uphill approximately. At top of hill power came back on..then killed again.tow called. Currently at garage where sensors are showing transmission problem.
An electronic device known as the smart junction box has failed 3 times since new.the first two times it was replaced under the original manufacturer"s warranty. The warranty has expired and it failed again.this part is very expensive costing in excess of $500.00 plus labor chargeswhich i must pay.when this part fails, the signal lights, brake stop lights and other devices do not work which are essential for safe operation. Vehicle reliability and security are in serious concern.
This is the 3rd headlamp assembly that's been replaced on the car, the bulb keeps melting.i've contacted ford & they say that there's no problem or complaints.
We have had intermittent electrical issues for several years.the car suddenly looses all electrical power. The battery is completely depleted. Once jump started the car will then operate properly. I have had the alternator replaced once and the car has been checked by mechanics several times, no one can find the problem. We often times smell a burnt plastic odor just before the failures. This failure has happened dozens of time over the past 4 years, even during warranty. Ford did nothing for us.
The contact owns a 2007 mercury montego. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the fuel gauge and speedometer backlights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.
Reference tsb 11-10-21,the car will surge and try to move forward quickly when at low idle and slowly moving at times when the car is close to another car such as parking in a parking lot.if the driver isn't quick-reacting with the foot already on the brake pedal, the auto could move quickly and contact the nearby auto or structure before the brake is pressed stopping the vehicle from lurching/surging forward.there is a tsb issued, but it should be a safety recall due to the risk of contacting another nearly vehicle or structure. It has steadily grown more frequent over the past year.
Car lunges forward and backwards when putting into gear (drive or reverse).it is extremely noticable to passengers and others.it is dangerous, as you have no control over the lunging motion that could possibly pin someone walking nearby as you are parking the vehicle.it appears this is a common problem that has been reported by many and action needs to be taken by the maker to correct the problem.
Since vehicle was purchased, when shifting from park to reverse or drive, the vehicle will lunge back or forward, even with brakes applied.have had to push brake pedal harder than what is normal to prevent this from happening.dealer "could not duplicate problem" when car was under warranty.car is now out of warranty and i was told the throttle body needs replacement.
The factory-supplied vehicle service jack failed during a spare tire change.the jack is a standard mechanical screw jack with a 16-inch long, 3/8-inch diameter horizontal bolt screwed into a threaded support member in the jack.the threads in the threaded support member became stripped while the jack was lifting the vehicle, causing the jack to fully collapse and the vehicle to fall to the ground.the threaded nut in the support member no longer holds the 16-inch bolt in place, and metal shavings are seen on the horizontal bolt.there is no sign of thread wear on the bolt itself, so the failure is purely due to the threaded nut inside the support member of the jack.at the time of the collapse, the bolt was being turned using the factory-supplied jack handle.the jack was raised approximately 10 vertical inches from the bottom of the base to the top of the car contact point at the time of the failure.the jack had not yet lifted the vehicle enough off the ground to change the tire.
In the fall of 2012, i noticed the engine would 'rev up' when i started the car and put it in gear causing the car to 'lunge' if i didn't have the brake firmly depressed.i took it to my local mechanic who couldn't replicate the issue.it continued to happen so now i hold my foot firmly on the brake for several seconds when i put the car in gear.in december 2012 or january 2013, i received a safety recall letter from ford for the throttle body.the letter stated exactly what my car was doing.i took my car to the dealer (lb smith) on february 18 to repair the throttle body per the safety recall letter.the 'repair' didn't fix the issue.on saturday, may 11 while sitting at a red light my car 'lunged' forward about a foot while i had my foot firmly pressed on the brake.we immediately took the car to lb smith and scheduled an appointment for the following monday.i was informed the safety recall was for a one time cleaning of the throttle body and my throttle body needed replaced at a cost of approximately $750.00.i called ford's toll free number to see if some assistance could be provided as it was a safety recall that wasn't fixed.i was informed that no assistance could be given.since then, my car has 'lunged' when i slow down to pull into gas station pumps and into parking spaces.it has escalated from lunging when i put the car in gear to lunging when i am sitting still and when i slow down.
Sudden acceleration when taking off and backing up. Especially into reverse. There has been a few close calls because of this.
I have a 2007 ford mercury montego that the throttle has a mind of its own-it often fluctuates and i feel that ford should recall this defect immediately before serious accidents occurs.it is an on-going issue and happens daily.there is no warning when the throttle fluctuates-it is something i must be cognizant about at all times.i have been to the ford dealer to see if there has beena recall and if others have made complaints about this as well..this has been going on for several months now and the last incident was yesterday!

Multiple instances of my car accelerating while in a lower rpm such as at a stop light, drive thru window and parking lots. Especially increased instances when the air conditioning is running. This also causes the car to die completely in some cases. I have to try to pull over somewhere in order to put the car in park and restart it. This issue with the acceleration is increasing in frequency lately. I can count on it to happen every single time i have the air conditioner running and sometimes when it is not. Problem has occurred hundreds of times. It is very dangerous! if i were slow to react to the acceleration, the car would definitely run over a pedestrian or hit another vehicle! local ford dealership vehicle was purchased from said they were not aware of any issue like this occurring in other like models. Please help! last night my husband and i went through a local restaurant drive thru window and while going through the line, the engine surged 5 different times! these are not slight little rpm bumps, these are full fledged "the car thinks i am mashing down on the gas pedal to obtain speeds of like 45 mph" accelerations! today i was driving at around 35 mph with the air conditioner on and turned the cruise control on. The car died when it reached a downhill turn at the point i would have expected the cruise control to hold back the speed. Of course the power steering went out when the engine died, so i had to try and find a place to "float" into in order to turn my car off and restart it. I need this fixed very badly before my family and i are in an accident. I cannot afford to spend thousands of dollars at the dealership hoping they get the correct diagnosis nor can i afford a new car.
Trunk pistons are too weak.thinking the trunk lid was all the way up, i leaned in to the trunk on several occasions, only to bang my head on the trunk lid.it is my opinion that the trunk pistons are not raising the trunk high enough and injury to the head can occur.

The contact owns a 2007 mercury montengo. The contact stated while in park, the vehicle started to make a loud whining noise without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the transmission cvt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 66,000 and the current mileage was 67,500. Updated 08/12/14*lj updated 8/30/2017

I got my 2007 mercury montego premier from my mom, who i bought it from.at that time, there was only 52,000 miles on it.at 52,000 miles, whenever the car would be put in drive or reverse, it would lunge forward.over the years, the problem has gotten worse and worse where now when putting green the car in drive or reverse, the car lunges forward to the point that i have no control of how far it will lunge.it's so bad that i worry that i might hit someone with my car just backing up.now, at 130,000, the transmission appears to have gotten even worse where it is slipping in 2nd gear.you give the car gas and it seems to just be at a stand still, then a) of a sudden, the whole car just throws itself, and any passengers in the car, forward and just shakes the entire vehicle.i'm surprised i haven't gotten whiplash from it, but it's so intense when it slips gears and then gets back into gear, that i would compare it to someone being hit from behind at about 20 mph.. That's how rough it is.the nhtsa is aware of this issue.they state that thee aren't enough complaints, but i know that not to be true.if they pent some time going online a huge number of owners of this vehicle have complained bouton this issue, but nothings been done.to me, it seems like the money they must get from companies lie ford is more like high money and he safety of the drivers and the people on the road comessage second to this very serious and very possible dangerous matter.
2007 mercury montego surges in both forward and backward mode. It is extremely dangerous and does this unexpectedly.isthis going to be a toyota type problem where it will take a serious accident to get these cars recalled ? this is an ongoing problem with the electronic throttle body which many people have reported and it seems ford motor company wishes to ignore instead of address. This is truly a shame because we were so proud of an american auto company who refused to take the government bail out , but at the same time, they need to step up and stand behind a real problem with their vehicle.
Usually this happens after i have been driving a while and get off the freeway.i will be accelerating slowly and when i reach 30-35 mph (2 or 3rd gear), suddenly the rpm's will race way up but the car is just coasting and not shifting.i let off the gas and sometimes it will kick into gear when the rpm returns to normal.other times it hard shifts into the next gear, sometimes the rpm will race again and i need to coast off the road and come to a complete stop. It's an intermittent problem and does not do it all the time.it won't do it when i take it to the dealer. I am afraid i will get rear ended one of these times especially if i am in a construction zone where i cannot get off the road.
The contact owns a 2007 mercury montego. The contact stated that the vehicle made a loud noise while the gear was placed into reverse. In addition, the vehicle failed to respond while in reverse.the vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The vin was not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.the failure and current mileage was 49,000.
The contact owned a 2007 mercury montego. While driving 10 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle jerked before eventually stopping. The failure recurred on numerous occasions.the vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000.
Need you to look at the transmission of the 2007 mercury montego.... The overall performance of the vehicle is great.. I had others inquire about my transmission... Slipping.
The contact owns a 2007 mercury montego. The contact stated that the front driver side seat belt hesitated to unlatch intermittently. In addition, after the driver side seat belt was unlatched, it no longer latched into place. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 169,000.
Brakes are faulty on ford 500 and mercury montego.they disintegrate early with only 10,000-12,000 miles on them.this causes multiple replacements, and is dangerous when they are okay one day, and gone the next after ford dealers cleared them at a check-up just a few miles earlier.
Brake problems since car has had 400 miles on it. The dealer turned the front and back rotors, and replaced the brake pads. Then there was a recall on the back brakes. And now the cars front brakes vibrate, and every time it rains the rotors on the front rust.
The contact owns a 2007 mercury montego. The contact stated that the wheel bearing failed on the front driver side of the vehicle and also damaged the spindle. The contact was reversing from a residential driveway when there was a loud bang sound from the front of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the repair shop where they advised the contact that the wheel could potentially have separated from the vehicle. The failure and current mileage was 18,000.. First at56k miles when putting the car into reverse it wouldn't go into gear, under warranty ford changed the fluid said nothing else was wrong, got car back and it still did same thing, took back to ford nothing wrong but car continued to have same problem and a the motor noise got louder. Then at 112k car wouldn't go into gear, high speed was 10mph. It was the cvt transmission. Called numerous transmission garages no one works on them. Found one that would look at it, they confirmed it was the transmission, ford would not release any parts for rebuilding it. Then ford would not release a refurbished transmission for it, then they claimed the garages just had a miss communications. Called ford customer service, they said call back in 48 hrs had to call them back a wk n half later, just to be told by kim the supervisor that she hopes i have a nice day.ended up paying $6800. To have my transmission replaced with a refurbished one from tenn. Had to pay xtra shipping. Ford quit making the cvt because they know the problems that it has and is not standing behind their error.
I have experienced a sudden unexpected lunge when backing out of a parking space after placing the vehicle in reverse on several occasions.you can hear the engine rpm increase quickly, then decrease just as quickly when this happens.this typically occurs when the vehicle is placed in reverse and the wheel is being turned and the my foot is on the brake pedal.it has also occurred again when the vehicle is put into drive after going from reverse and the wheel is turned.having the brake pedal depressed, is effective in stopping the vehicle, but since the timing and circumstances of the malfunction is unpredictable, it has become a noticeable and constant issue.i thought my vehicle was an isolated issue, but it appears to be more widespread.after seeing this issue on online discussion boards for ford five hundred/montego/freestyle vehicles and now the 2005-2007 ford freestyle investigation, i would strongly urge nhtsa to expand this investigation to include 2005-2007 ford five hundred/mercury montego since these vehicle use similar drivetrain components.the symptoms i have seen are exactly the same as those described in the investigation of the ford freestyle in investigation pe 11-018 opened on 5/11/2011

Our 18 year old daughter who has a permit was driving our 2007 monetego one evening with me. When she went to park at a drive inn restaurant under my guidance, she was pulling into a parking space and the car unexpectedly lunged forward. As an inexperienced driver she panicked and took her foot off the brake - endangering the lives of at least 10 people that were eating at the picnic tables outside of the restaurant. Thankfully the car was going at a relatively low speed and the curb stopped its forward motion. I had noticed intermittent "lunging" when i applied the brakes just a few times before this and a clunking when shifting and i had already taken it to my local mechanic who checked the transmission and brakes but said they were fine. After the incident with my daughter we took the car to the dealer and they said that the throttle body is bad. I called ford three times to no avail. I have since done some searching on the internet and have found that this is a real problem for many people which actually confirms what the service manager at the dealership told me. He actually said that the service department there has seen a number of these fixes and he stated that the defect is very dangerous- there needs to be a recall now!!!!!
Engine speed fluctuates suddenly with no operator input (throttle pedal), especially when shifting (automatic) transmission from park to reverse or drive. Causes vehicle to lunge during parking maneuvers.also requires abnormal braking input in traffic when normally engine braking would suffice.has been serviced once by a ford dealer (computer was reprogrammed); was not successful.
The contact owns a 2007 mercury montego. The contact stated that while attempting to park the vehicle lunge forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who stated that the throttle body might be defective. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 85,000 and the current mileage was 90,000.
The contact owns a 2007 mercury montego. The contact stated while sitting at a complete stop, the vehicle independently accelerated. The dealer discovered that the throttle body assembly sensor was indicating a lack of fuel and causing the vehicle to accelerate. The dealer advised the throttle body would need to be replaced however the part was on backorder for six months. The contact was concerned with the possibility of a crash occurring before the part became available. The vehicle had not yet been repaired. The failure mileage was 76,000 and the current was unknown.
This vehicle has a serious/scary "surging" problem when shifting from park to drive, park to reverse, drive to reverse, reverse to drive or when simply maneuvering to park.this problem began a couple of weeks ago and has gotten progressively worse. A web search has shown that this problem is pretty common in this auto but i have yet to see the problem pinpointed.this is a real safety issue.
