The contact owned a 2006 mercury montego. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle in front suddenly stopped and caused it to be rear ended by the contact's vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no warning indicators illuminated prior to the collision. The contact sustained chest pains, but no medical attention was required. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot and deemed a total loss. The vehicle was not inspected by an independent mechanic or dealer for air bag failure determination. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
I was traveling at approximately 50 mph when i realized the truck in front of me was sitting still without any break lights. I hit my breaks but i slammed into the back of the vehicle head on. The entire front end of my car was pushed back toward the windshield. My airbag didn't deploy. I would think that with the bumper and grill being pushed back toward the engine the airbag would have deployed. My son and i were both wearing seatbelts and suffered injuries from those. Despite the seat belt i was still thrown forward almost slamming into the steering wheel. I am severely bruised across my abdomen and right shoulder, i have shoulder and neck pain. I can hardly use my right arm and can not lay down with out excruciating pain in my chest and shoulder. My son only suffered minor bruises and soreness. I wonder if i would have been thrown so far if the airbag had deployed. I also don't think my seat belt should have given that much and should have kept me plastered against the seat. The seat belt did lock up and kept me from moving in two other incidents, where i was only sore.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury montego. The contact stated that the another vehicle crashed into him on the driver's side and none of the air bags deployed. The location of impact was the fender and doors on the driver's side. The doors on the driver's side were caved in as a result. The driver suffered minor injuries during the crash. The police stated that the air bags should have deployed. The vehicle was towed and repaired. The failure mileage was 39,449 and the current mileage was 68,000.updated 04/10/12*ljupdated 04/16/12updated 05/02/12.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving the airbag light illuminated.although the dealership and manufacturer were alerted, no repairs were made. The abs light illuminated, the front spring brackets were replaced. Updated 04/06/06.
While driving at night, suddenly the instrument cluster gauges stopped working and when to zero value. They flickered momentarily and continued this for about 1 minute while driving. The appeared to have reset themselves. However, two days after the initial incident the gauges stopped working again, and have continued to not function properly. The major safety issue (i almost got into an accident) is that when the gauges don't work, the reverse lights come on. This makes other drivers think i am reversing when i am not. I have done additional online research and found a service bulletin published by ford indicating this is an issue with these models.
My 2006 montego jerks and clunks feels like it is going to drop out. It also slips into neutral from drive . The trans jerks so hard it feels like it is going to drop on the street . First noted this with less than32000 miller. Also had to replace front engine mount $475 , full instrument cluster $1100 36000million. There is a lot of people complaining to ford but nothing is being done.if not taken care of this will be my langford product.3ford's inmyimmediatefamily now. All will be scrapped ordering for cars from a company that takes care of its customers. Ford new the cvt trans was a problem.
When driving the car comes to a sudden stop and only allows me to go 20-25 mph. Very unsafe. I was on the freeway going about 65mph and then engine lost power - speed dropped to 20 mph on the freeway. Luckily i was able to pull over in time avoid a high speed collision. The sudden engine power loss happens going at different speeds even as slow as 30 mph. The rpm needle goes up and down. I have had the the throttle body cleaned at the dealer from a previous recall, and have gotten the throttle body cleaned again.
Wrench light comes on, car spits and sputters and dies. After restartitbe car, light is off. Happens multiple times a week.car will not drive without restart.

Driving down road car just stopped in the middle road was running just would not go.transmission troublei guess ford new about this i still owe 3000 on this car. Lots of peuple with is trouble.
When accelerating suddenly the vehicle would just shift out of gear, make a loud clunking noise and violently thrust forward and then back. It happens a lot when trying to accelerate onto a highway. It is very scary feeling.it is a sudden jolt. When we took the car to the dealership the repairman said has seen a lot of the harsh shifting failure with the transmission with the montego.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury montego. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, he smelled a burning odor inside the vehicle. The engine was turned off and upon restarting, there was a complete loss of power steering. The contact inspected under the hood and noticed that the serpentine belt was fractured.the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for diagnosis and the air compressor serpentine belt was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 60, 540.
Car was completly stopped at a red light. Then all of a sudden the car lurched forward 5 feet with foot on the brake. This makes the 3rd or 4th time in the past year it has happened. Lucky no one was in front of me.
When shifting out of park or neutral, or from drive to reverse (or reverse to drive), the car lurches forward or back with no warning. This can be a hazard, if near pedestrians or if parked in a tight space. Additionally, if this occurs several times,(eg:parking) the car will stall & the repair "wrench" on the dashboard lights up. The car must be turned off for about 1 minute & re-started to get back to normal. This unfortunately is too common occurrence. Is ford waiting for a fatality before taking steps for corrective action.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury montego premier. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the check engine warning light. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated that the computer needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired but the problem persisted. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.

After the engine warms up, upon acceleration and the automatic transmission is shifting gears from 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 there is a stuttering and often a jerking when the automatic transmission is shifting. This jerking also occurs upon slowbrakingwhen the transmission is down-shifting from gears 4 to 3 to 2 to 1. It's getting worse!!

When i started accelerating it would studder when rpms went up and then basically wouldn't let me go over 50.i took it into car repair shop and they said my throttle body needed to be replaced.i looked online and saw this was a recent recall.have i missed out on this or what?i need some answers please!

The failure mileage was 85,600.
I like my car except, except for being scared of driving on the freeway or trying to go up a hill and don't even think about passing someone. When the car's engine need to shift it will shift so hard it almost throw me into the back seat of another car or that is how i feel if i don't hold on to the steering wheel tightly. Their is something wrong with the transmission drive shaft or trans system and it needs to be recall. I just had to replace the upper roll retractor which was recalled on other mercury cars except according to mercury not my year or car... Come on..... Yes it's should have been a recall on my car as well. Question what to do....
1. Any time the engine is on, but especially with the air conditioner on.2. When shifting into gear (drive or reverse), the engine revs up to approximately 1300 rpm for approximately a second. If the brake is not firmly applied, the car lurches forward or backward3. Nothing yet; throttle body cleaning or replacement is suggested
2 problems with car1)transmission failed at less than 20,000 miles and 2) cylinder 5 failed at 30,000 miles.
Ac blows hot air when vehicle is not moving. If you are moving slow or stopped at a signal light or stuck in traffic the ac starts blowing hot air. It works fine as along as i am moving.
Purchased my2006 mercury montego in 2007.car has always seemed to idle too fast.car will suddenly lurch forward or backward, seemingly without provocation.i am fearful of my safety, safety of others or of damage to surrounding vehicles/property.mechanics i have contacted have reset the computer, but the car always returns to the same issue after a day or so. Mechanics are baffled over this issue.it is almost as if the car has a mind of its own.
Engine revs up, and car lurches, typically when: moving away from idle; - almost always when the wheels are turned all the way to the left or right and the car is moving away from idle. The lurching is sudden and "violent" enough that it can catch a driver unprepared -this has been an occasional problem for years -problem has been getting more frequent.
While traveling home from church, my car suddenly shut down with no warning.i was in traffic and able to pull off with no power at all. When i stopped and put it in park, the car would not allow you to take it out.it would not crank even after replacing the battery.i found out the next day that i had a blown passenger side tail light.this caused my car to cut off and ford stated that this is what happens.this is a very dangerous wiring issue. Apparently, the tail lights are connected to the main system and if one goes out it shuts the car off and activates the theft protection system.this needs to be looked at.if i would have been on the express way, the issue could have become serious.it was still a serious issue.thank you.

When i come to a stop my car will lunge forward as i take my foot of the brake.the rpms notably rise from 700 to over 1000.this has recently started with 66,000 miles on the car.
Surging of the car at a dead stop at red lights, drive ins, stop signs. My tech, with analyzer while driving, could see that it was in the electrical circuit of the throttle body.
Clip holding fuel filter hose to the fuel filter failed allowing the hose to come loose and leak fuel under pressure. The car had only been driven 4 blocks so the exhaust system was still cool. Had the exhaust system been hot and the failure occurred at high speed a fire would most likely have occurred. The fuel filter had not been changed, as confirmed by my service records, making it the filter installed at the factory.
My 2006 mercury monteago lunges forward when put in drive, and lunges back when put in reverse, wrecking my rear bumper and garage. Ford is very aware of this problem and does nothing about it.

I am also in the group of bamboozled people that have the unfortunate experience of owning a 2006 mercury montego.recently on a 90 mile trip about 40 miles in driving approximately 65 going up a hill i accelerated to pass a vehicle and my car suddenly and unexpectedly jerked and lost speed down to a about 45 and would not accelerate.the cars behind me had to slow down abruptly and were none to happy at my inconvenience.since then i have had the same issue repeatedly each time getting worse.i can now feel the transmission getting week when i drive on the highway and its only a matter time before it goes out.this is a major safety issue as the you are not aware of when this will happen and the vehicle is difficult to control when jerking abruptly.ford needs to do something.my car does have 116000 miles on it and i know cars are not meant to last forever but this is ridiculous there is no reason a properly maintained transmission. Should be having problems like this.i am certain this is a manufacturer defect.i went against my betterjudgment and bought a ford because i thought the montego was a nice car.i should have stuck with my 97 firebird that had 167000 miles on it, lost way less oil, and ran way smoother on it's original drivetrain and got 10 mpg better than this car.never again ford!you should stand behind your products.

Transmission failed with 50900 miles on the odometer.complete rebuild was necessary for car to function properly.new torque converter, valve body, two computer modules.shop owner said he has seen many of these transmissions fail and ford should issue a recall/campaign.
When i started accelerating it would studder when rpms went up and then basically wouldn't let me go over 50.i took it into car repair shop and they said my throttle body needed to be replaced.i looked online and saw this was a recent recall.have i missed out on this or what?i need some answers please!
When accelerating i noted the tranny started to slip, i drive very cautious, not a speedster, i watched the rpm shoot to five and no speed shift, i drove the car for a while hoping it would come out of it, i was driving back and fourth some 4000 miles to work and had little timeto get to mechanics finally my wife took it in they said 4 gear was missing in tranny, just getting back to work i had to look up a used tranny because the cost was well over 3000. I found a 2007 used tranny from a reputable used dealer , we place the tranny in at a cost of 700, the tranny itself 475,upon getting car back the tranny is doing it all over again, i am now taking it to a dealership to have it synchronized with computer programing to see if this fixes problem , i am not happy with the recalls on this car but if ford refunds me and fixes i would be satisfied we love ford truck and their products and feel ford does take care of their customers.
I have owned this car for 4 years. I still owe more than its worth. My 3rd transmission just went out this morning!cvttransmissions are garbage.i was quoted 6000 for anotherused transmission. 4 transmissions in 4 years is insane!
My car has a issue with electronic throttle, i called and was told sorry your 189,000 is over 150,000 limit to be repaired.i haven't had the car for 3 years yet.this should be a recall vs a customer care issue.i drove to my son's on monday and car loss power a total of 14 times in a 2 hr drive.i was in heavy traffic.seems to me ford cares more about their bottom line then their customers lives.i was almost hit several times.i have had it in the shop and the alternator replaced 3 times, with them thinking this is the issue one being replaced yesterday after the one before hand only been on their a little over a month.come to find out ford knows about the issue with their electronic throttles on vehicles from 2002 and up to date.this is very bad business and i had purchased this car due to a accident i was in (no fault to my own) and i have a permanent disability of a messed up sciatic nerve.i was told no issue, boy was i lied to.this needs to be fixed and asap after i have spent so much in repairs already to find out that wasn't even the issue.ford needs to step up before someone dies over the negligent of the electronic throttle.i would like to hear from ford on what they are going to do about my vehicle. Also the wrench light comes on the engine light when it goes into loss of power.when in traffic, it's hard to get off the road stately when your car looses power.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury montego. While driving approximately 35 mph, the transmission failed without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. I have a 2006 mercury montego awd. At slow speeds the transmission seems to lurch in both drive and reverse. It has been doing this since brand new. It has 65,000 miles on it now and it seems to be worsening with age. On october 20th, 2010 the slow speed lurch in reverse caused the vehicle to back into a pole causing body damage to the decklid and bumper.
Transmission-engine interface / program on my 2006 mercury montego is 'wacky' -- to use a technical term.....purchased the vehicle new in july 2006 and immediately experienced the big problem.it now has about 28,000 miles.dealer thinks i'm wacky for reporting it and supposedly changed the program the second or third time i reported the problem but it still exists. The problem:with all previous cars i've driven, to go faster you push the accelerator pedal down.to speed up a little you press a little; to speed up a lot you press harder.with this car you press a little:nothing happens.you press a little harder:nothing happens.you press a little harder:nothing happens.suddenly after a few seconds the car downshifts two or three gears and jumps forward -- with tremendous torque steer.fortunately, the torque steer is to the right, so i have not as yet veered into oncoming traffic.i've been able to anticipate the problem and control the vehicle so far, but i fear that i or another driver may not always be so attentive.its potentially extremely dangerous to me and others on or near roads.....
1. Normal driving. Car stopped moving. Stranded xmas evening in rain storm. 2. Rt. Frond axle came out of trans-axle towed to dealer. 3. Found defective midship bearing had to cutdue to excessive pressure on axle. Per dealer invoice.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury montego. While driving at 70 mph up a hill, the vehicle suddenly shifted out of gear, and made a clunking noise. Prior to the failure, the transmission had been flushed. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that there was a harsh shifting failure within the transmission. The dealer stated that the contact would be responsible for repair costs as the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle had not been repaired at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. The current mileage was 76,394. Updated 07/28/10. *ljupdated 08/30/10
2006 mercury montego needs a new transmission.it is a cvt transmission. Dealer stated that now they know they have problems but that they didn't know when they first started to sell them.
Transmission on 2006 mercury montego premier awd/ cvt transmission went out with only 78429 miles on it.
I purchased a new mercury montego premier with a 6 speed electronic automatic transmission. It is an excellent vehicle with the exception that while traveling down steep grades there is no way to downshift to a lower gear to slow the vehicle down. I have to rely on the brakes only and they overheat on long mountainous grades. Some are 7% to 9.5% grades in weatern n.c. ,northern ga. , and eastern tn. With no way of going to a lower gear to help slow the vehicle down , the brakes take extreme abuse and could fail from overheating. I can only imagine living in the western states and having this problem. On a recent trip, my spoke aluminum wheels were black with residue from brake dust. I feel that people who are not accustomed to driving in mountainous terrain could have a huge problem where i live and travel a lot. Thanks for your time.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury montego. The contact stated that the vehicle began exhibiting an abnormal noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis and the contact was told that the rear differential failed and recommended a complete overhaul. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileages were 98,000.
The contact stated that the driver side seat belt was frayed and the fabric would unravel. The failure recurred continuously for years. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,000.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury montego. While the vehicle was parked the contact stated that she attempted to get out of the vehicle and was unable to open the seat belt and was stuck in the drivers side seat belt. The contact owns a 2006 mercury montego.at 60 mph on a clear day the vehicle suddenly came to a complete stop.the contact stated that the engine's rpmsincreased.the contact managed to pull the vehicle over and shut it off without ever touching the brake pedal. This failureoccurred numerous times, including once when the mechanic was in the vehicle.the dealerwas aware of it,butwas unable to duplicate the failure.while driving at 70 mph the left rear brake seized, forcing the contact's vehicleinto another lane.the contact swerved off the exit ramp and exited the vehicle due to smoke rising from the driver side front brakes.the contact accidentally left the vehicle in drive gear, but the vehicle remained idle.the dealer replaced the brake calipers on the driver front and passenger rear brakes.the contact called the manufacturer, who denied the claim, stating that the vehicle was out of warranty.the failure mileage was 17,000.
Recently had to pay a ford dealer $385 to replace the rear brake assemblies at 27,000 miles on my 2006 mercury montego purchased new in july 2006.front brakes in fine shape.evidently the designed rear brake assemblies are substandard for this vehicle.the rear brakes had not failed yet but were within a few miles of doing so, according to a ford service representative.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving the airbag light illuminated.although the dealership and manufacturer were alerted, no repairs were made. The abs light illuminated, the front spring brackets were replaced. Updated 04/06/06.
The right rear brake area emitted unusual sounds. It was noted that the rear disc brake was gouged. The part was repaired at the dealership. The mercury montego awd had approximately 30,500 miles.

The contact owns a 2006 mercury montego.the contact noticed that the paint on the hood of the vehicle was consistently fading.he is in the process of notifying the dealer in reference to the failure.the failure and current mileages were 8,500.
After heavy rain or a car wash the doors are full of water.i need to physically lift the rubber gaskets to allow the doors to drain fully after either event.corrosion problems are surely going to result.any plans for a fix?
As i backed out of a parking space, the car surged & i hit another parked car behind me.even though i had my foot on the brake, the car accelerated for a few seconds.i then placed the other foot on top of the right foot & put the gear into park & the car stopped.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury montego. While driving approximately 45 mph, the rear passenger side control mounting bracket fractured, detaching part of the frame and making it difficult to control the vehicle. The failure also caused damage to the rear passenger tire. The contact gained control of the steering and was able to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was then towed to an independent mechanic. The mechanic advised that the rear passenger side control mounting bracket and part of the frame was corroded and fractured. The mechanic advised that because of liability issues, they were unable to repair the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a complaint was filed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.
Experiencing odd inside tire wear on rear tires of my mercury montego.had oil changed at dealership service rep from dealership said ford issued tsb 10-2-13, seems ford should be issuing a recall to fix this problem because it came from the factory with it.under normal driving it would seem as if this problem would not happen, it would have to be a manufacturing defect.

Electronic throttle should be a recall vs a customer care item.this is bs and ford knows that it should be.i haven't had my car 3 yrs yet, purchased pre owned and it just hit 10 yrs and is 186,000 miles and needed to be under 150,000 for them to fix.it just started doing this and i replaced alternator 3 times think this was the issue.ford need to stop thinking of their bottom line and take care of their customers.i purchased this care after i was in a awful car accident (no fault of my own) that left me with a messed up sciatic nerve for rest of my life.i purchased this car as i was told no issue or recalls and it served my needs.boy was i lied to. I was almost killed yesterday driving this car due to the power loss in middle of driving.i need this repaired asap as this is my only transportation and a known issue.
Vehicle surged when put in reverse, vehicle lunged, engine ran rough and vehicle died. Vehicle was hard to control with service brakes.this happened several times and the check engine light came on. Codes p2106 and p061b are showing. Vehicle has been surging for a couple of years, only slightly when shifted into gear.
My car goes into limp mode when the cruise is set and it approaches any incline.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury montego. While driving approximately 10 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal upon approaching a traffic stop signal. The vehicle suddenly lunged forward without warning. The failure recurred whenever the brake pedal was engaged during a complete stop. The failure became progressivelyworse. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000. The vin was unavailable.
I turned on road heading south and increased speed to limit of 55 mph and set cruise control.the road sloped slightly downward and the car was not requiring gas.the sensor got confused and the engine cut out leaving me suddenly without power.i was able to pull over off the road put the car in park and restart it i di not have a recurrence but am very concerned about safety.i took car into a dealer and they reset the software but told me it happens to all car manufacturer on a rare occasion and could not guarantee that it would not happen again. If i was not in the right hand lane i could have difficulty.
Our 2006 mercury montego lunges, and suddenly accelerates with no foot pressure on the gas pedal. It is clearly a missed recall with issues with the throttle body. Ford knows all about this issue and so do you.....i am not the first to complain! do something before someone gets killed! the following site explains it all==> http://www.facebook.com/pages/ford-freestyle-500-mercury-montego-throttle-body-recall/114094741973972?sk=wall.
Car was completly stopped at a red light. Then all of a sudden the car lurched forward 5 feet with foot on the brake. This makes the 3rd or 4th time in the past year it has happened. Lucky no one was in front of me.
As i backed out of a parking space, the car surged & i hit another parked car behind me.even though i had my foot on the brake, the car accelerated for a few seconds.i then placed the other foot on top of the right foot & put the gear into park & the car stopped.
I experience a sudden acceleration when i am pulling into or backing out of a parking space and pulling into my driveway. I purchased this car used two years ago, so it might not be the first occurrence.
The contact owns a 2006 mercury montego. While driving with the cruise control activated, the contact depressed the brake pedal to slow down, but the vehicle failed to stop. The brake pedal traveled to the floorboard when it was depressed and the vehicle felt as if the vehicle were accelerating. The contact stated that the vehicle was out of control. The contact was able to pull the vehicle over at 60-65 mph and quickly powered off the engine. While the vehicle was in neutral, the contact restarted the vehicle and it operated normally. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,300.
We own a 2006 mercury montego and we have an acceleration problem that seems to be happening more and more.after starting the vehicle with the brake applied and i shift in reverse, the engine will rev up and try to force the car to move so i apply mt brakes even harder. This only lasts a few seconds. Then i shift into "drive" and with the brake still applied, it may do it again and try to take off when in fact i was not yet ready to press on my accelerator and it just wants to accelerate on it's own. I have researched the montego as well as other ford product's and here is an example http://www.fordtaurus.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=4399&view=nextthat is pretty much what our car does and it can be very dangerous!!! how often does this happen? almost daily but not all the time and that's the scary part because you have to be ready for it or it may catch you off-guard and you very well could run into another vehicle in front or back of you or possibly maybe injure or kill someone. This needs to be looked into....please!!!there are no recalls on this vehicle that i can find but there sure needs to be.similar ford product's have this issue and we need someone with some authority and ability to research the issues on these montego's!
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 25 mph the vehicle became stuck at 3500 rpm's.the contact believes it was caused by the accelerator pedal sticking.the engine had to be turned off before the vehicle would stop.three attempts were made at restarting the vehicle before it would idle normally.the vehicle was taken to the dealer both times and the problem could not be duplicated. Updated 08/25/06.
While traveling down the road the lights went out in the car quit running at 60 miles per hour was almost rear-ended knocked up steering wheel ended up in the ditch. Had a new alternator put on twice a brand new battery had all the fuses checked everything redone 4 weeks later same thing all over again electrical problem with your car, this time being more alert of it i was able to pull over and save myself from another bad car accident there's a problem with your electrical in this car it's going to kill somebody it has cost me over $3,000 and now it's doing it again, huh complaints about this i am reporting it something needs to be done
No crash has occurred so far. Defective windshield material may cause a crash in the future. Chemical changes inside the windshield (or possible delamination of internal plastic material) is causing a spreading area of the windshield to be not clear. The problem is only noticeable if i am driving into the sun. The sun shining on the defective area reduces the visibility through that portion of the glass to an unsafe degree. The problem was first noticed about 2 years ago and affected only a small portion of the front windshield. The problem has steadily grown worse until about 15 to 20%of the windshield is affected. The problem was discussed with a ford dealer and a ford area representative. They advised me to change the windshield and save the receipt in the event a recall notice is issued.i currently have an appointment with an independent auto glass supplier to replace the windshield.
