Takata recall still no remedy

I have been unable to get my airbags replaced as part of the recall and have been told that they have absolutely no idea of when the parts will be available to take care of this. As it stands, it is unsafe for anyone to ride in the front passenger side of my car and i am deeply concerned about the safety of any driver of this vehicle in my family. I am highly upset that this is taking so long and that there seems to be no regard for the safety of my family. This is the main vehicle driven and i do not have the luxury of just parking it and waiting until someone decides we are important enough to fix this dangerous problem. I am deeply disappointed in how this is being handled.

I am reporting on the takata recall as per reports in the paper and tv.

There is a recall on my mercury milan 2009. Last october september october i took my car to hoffman ford for the replacement of the recall on the airbags. Afterwards i noticed that there was a raising of the dashboard where they replace the airbag. I bought it to their attention, and they said it was from the glue that was used. Later a few months later i noticed the airbag area was expanding and foam was coming through the airbag area & vents over the.consul.i called ford manf to report this issue. They said to someone will give me a call back ,i never got a call back. Also after the replacement of the airbags there was an issue with my brakes.they told me because of the car setting that is probably just rusty, but i wasn't comfortable and i called them and told them that i was going to bring the car to them and look at it again because something was definitely wrong. Theinvestigator who looked at the car to do the work for the insurance notice that the airbag does not expand out nothing else was said about that but obviously they didn't check the brakes because right after that is when the car went to hoffman's and i never drove it again till then and that's when we found out about the brakes. Now just this week december 25th 2019 there has been a recall on the brakes of the mercury milan 4 mm v i believe to 2011. So i believe this was the reason for the accident. I am actually driving a deathtrap car. I had my back brakes replaced with new brakes just a year ago and a month ago i had to get new brakes again already. I have lost two jobs because of this car because i cannot transport children because of the hazard's.my license has points against it now, i paid a high deductible, all because of the recalls on the brakes that they wouldn't acknowledge from the beginning.thank you, [xxx]thank you, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I received the attached recall notice in july 2016 from ford motor company concerning a defective airbag inflator. To date, i have not received any further notification from ford motor company about the availability of the part and instructions on what to do in order to remedy this dangerous condition. I have contacted the ford dealership, auto nation in marietta, georgia, a number of times to determine the status of this and have been told that the part is not yet available. Considering the dangerous condition that they describe in the recall notice, i certainly think that this has dragged on much too long, and i am extremely concerned about the danger of death or severe injury.

Takata recall has just been expanded again and the date ford motor company will probably be extended again.whoever will listen at nhtsa; i'd like to show a pic of a small kevlar 29 filled blanket i have installed over my cars passenger-side air bag.since ford isn't doing anything very soon i feel this will help toward reducing the chances of a throat or head trauma during deployment, can you get this picture to anyone interested as there's millions with this recall in limbo.the drivers side is not recalled - yet, but something similar could be produced cheaply.

Safely issue with soft brakes. Abs module fault. Brake pedal to the floor

While driving often times my vehicle reduces speed drastically, while pressing on the gas. This is very dangerous especially when on the highway because of the sudden reduction in speed. Most of my driving is done on the highway. It takes a long time for the vehicle to pick up speed again. Also it does this when i am stopped at a red light which is also a concern for me with my child in the car. I tried to get this problem diagnosed but it drives fine while at the mechanic shop. My vehicle has been doing this since my purchase with only having 42,000 and some miles on it. My vehicle has only about 60,000 and still does this. This problem needs to be fixed.

Check engine light came on, took to my machanic.dignostic read out indicated something to do with air pollution device( he did not know which one) until he looked at the car. Now i have a wrench light on and the car does not want to stay running, smells " rich running" and will hardly go down the road. Not too long ago i had problems with the door lock system also, was relocking doors after i locked them. I have complained since day one that there was something not right with the electrical system on this car. I think whatever is wrong with the engine now is all tied into everything.

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. The contact stated that the brakes worked intermittently. The failure only occurred when the abs was activated. The failure occurred approximately six times. During some of the failures, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure could not be diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage and vin were not provided.

Brake pedal went soft increasing stopping distance of vehicle.

Complete brake failure made it necessary to replace the master cylinder and the brain.

On more than 5 occasions while driving on rough terrain or a wet surface my brakes went soft and failed to stop my vehicle completely. All incidents occurred while driving on a city street at the speed limit.the vehicle was taken to the mechanic two times after two separate incidents and there was no problem with the brakes found.after the latest occurrence i did some research online and found out there was a problem with the anti-lock control braking module.we paid a total of $1,095.05 to have it corrected.not a problem since.

I was driving my 2009 mercury milan down a downhill side road on the first day of wintry road conditions of the 2019 year, and my abs brakes engaged as i hit some ice. Immediately following this incident and for the next 20 miles of highway driving, my brakes felt very spongy. Specifically, during my next braking attempt and each subsequent one following this abs event, my brake pedal just went straight to the ground every time i tried to brake. I could feel the brakes begin to engage only as the pedal hit the ground, so i wasn't completely lacking brakes, but i essentially had very little braking power. In previous vehicles, i've previously experienced air in brake lines and a failed master cylinder, and this did not feel like either of those issues -- less braking power than air in the lines and more braking power than a completely failed master cylinder.i almost wrecked my car a dozen times, even though i reserved myself to driving tens of miles below the speed limit and leaving lots of room in front of me. I took the car to the closest available garage (a firestone) where they confirmed that i had full brake fluid and so dismissed a master cylinder leak. They did not fix anything at the garage due to uncertainty about the issue and the high price tag to search. Much later that day, i returned to my car to commute home only to find that the brakes worked as they had prior to the morning commute. The issue seemed to have resolve itself. After copious research, i came across the "extended braking distance" investigation (nhtsa action number: ea18002) for this very vehicle. My issue seems to mirror the antilock braking system (abs) hydraulic control unit (hcu) problem described in this investigation quite well. Why in the world is this not a recall??? my life was in grave danger the other day, and now i'm terrified to drive my car. Come on, nhtsa/ford!

The car was in motion and as we tried to stop the brakes had to be pushed all the way to the floor to stop.this was in wet weather but it happened all the way for 30 minutes on the highway on the way to work, and 5 minutes the night before on side streets.this was not because of icy roads.on the way home it was fine.no antilock brake lights or stopping mechanism came on. The brakes seem to randomly adjust as to how much pressure is applied.brakes also squeek when backing out. This has been looked at several times with no resolution.

The brakes do not stop the vehicle in thenormal distance, but an extended distance.since 2013 we've had numerous repair/servicing visits to correct the issue.the most recent on september 22, 2016.hundreds of dollars have been spent to correct the situation.and just today, my wife report the problem is again occurring.although we have endured this problem prior, for this report, the date will indicate today's date, as that is the most recent occurrence.

This is the 4th time i have been on a small incline and lost brakes. I had the car at forda month ago they admitted brakes recalled, cant get part. Released car to me. Today with my child in the car,i was traveling @30mph attempted to brake for a stop sign on a small incline. The pedal went to the floor, i blew past the sign and narrowly missed having an accident.the brake pedal has not returned.ithe manufacture was made aware months prior to today and have said parts n/a. The manufacturer has exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. Vin # confirms part not available nhtsa campaign number 19v904000

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. While driving 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and traveled to the floorboard. The abs warning indicator illuminated. The contact engaged the emergency brakes four times in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The year, make, and model was included in open nhtsa investigation number: pe16017 (brakes) since december 20, 2016. The manufacturer stated that they would have the complaint reviewed, but there was no guarantee. The contact stated that she experienced the failure six to eight months prior. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.

I put in a previous complaint about soft brakes and now am having the issue again. Last night a car cut me off and so i had to apply the brakes hard and after that the brake pedals went soft and had to be pressed all the way to the floor. Today the brakes are still the same and make braking very difficult.

When i hit a pot hole in the road or go over bumpy railroad tracks, my brakes do not work as efficient as they did. A jolt, like hitting a pot hole, will make it as if i barely have brakes. The brake pedal will go almost to the floor and this lack of brakes will last from a couple of hours to the next day. Then the brakes are fine. This has happened many times. .always while vehicle is in motion and only upon a sudden, hard jolt. First time in 2017 and last time was about 2 months ago.

A couple of months ago, the front tires of my car hit a rough surface due to road repair on my way home, and instantly i felt the abs came on and i may have seen a quick instrument light flash. It took a very long distance to stop the car at the following stop sign, because majority of the brake travel was non-functional; i felt i was lucky i was even able to stop the car. After returning home, i inspected the brake and saw no leaks or damages in the brake system. After some internet search, i was surprised to see so many similar complaints about the ford vehicles but with no recall information. The cause seems to be the hcu module, possibly some valve could not fully close after energizing, even though many shops replace the master cylinder without much effect.now my car has evolved from 80% non-functional brake to soft brake pedal with long brake travel. The hcu module replacement costs over $2000. It took me two months to finally decide to bring my car to a ford dealership tomorrow. Then i saw the news article about the nthsa investigation, so i decide to add my case. I believe that there could be many many ford vehicles with soft soft brake pedals on the road, which could cause accidents and lifes.

Nothing bad has happened, yet. A couple of years ago, we noticed that the brakes became much softer.it became necessary to push further down on the pedal to engage them.we took the care to a shop in march of 2016.the mechanics checked the whole system, and thought it was the master cylinder, so he put a new one it.he called us to tell us, that wasn't the issue, so he removed it, and did not charge us.i did some on line searches, which i've continued, and saw that there were similar issues with that nhtsa was looking at, and heir might be a recall. I've continued to check every few months, or so , for the past 2 years, but still no word of a recap.i checked on muffed.com today, and ford still has not recalled the problem.the only recall appearing for that car is the current air bag issue (16s26).my wife tells me that now she's used to it and that if it is a safety issue, ford would recall it. I won't drive the car.i think it's a accident waiting to happen. I doubt this will accomplish anything, or that i'll get a response, but i'd like to know the status on this situation, and want to go on record as reporting it. Maybe ford will take care of it eventually if enough people complain.

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan.the contact stated that while driving at any speed and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal failed and seized intermittently.the vehicle was driven to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the brake pad had at least 20,000 miles left. The failure recurred intermittently.the manufacturer was notified about the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 96,000.

I was driving on a road that was slippery due to icy conditions. I applied the brakes when a car stopped suddenly in front of me. I was able to stop but after the incident the brakes went"soft" and i had to apply extra force and pump the brakes to get the car to brake adequately.my mechanic thought it might be a problem with the calipers but fixed them.when that did not fix the problem he put in a new factory master cylinder which also did not remedy the situation.he then did some research and discovered that there have been issues with the abs system.my car is still not braking properly.

I have been having an ongoing issue with my braking system on the 2009 mercury milan. It usually starts as having to activate the brakes fairly quickly (either slamming on the brake in emergency, or stopping over a dirt road or slowing over a speed bump). The brake pedal will activate the abs (pump 3-4 times) and depress clear to the floor without actually stopping the vehicle. Then immediately after and until i have the brake lines bled there is 0 pressure in my brake pedal (pedal continues to go to floor without completely stopping the car). I recently had the master brake cylinder replaced which only corrected the problem for a short time and have just had to take it back to the shop for the same issue. They told me everything "seems fine" and they can't find another issue with the system. Clearly this is a safety risk and ford needs to do a recall on this issue!

Driving on a residential street going downhill.brakes were working fine until the moment the abs kicked in.immediately after this, the brake pedal became extremely low and the car is now not braking right.

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. While driving 60 mph, the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact was able to engage the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was fluid leaking from the brake cylinder. The brake pedal was replaced. The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 38,000.

While exiting onto ramp from expressway on wet pavement, i applied my brakes to slow the car.i drove over an uneven road surface and my brake pedal went to the floor. As a result, i needed increased distance to stop my car. If i needed to stop for traffic or a traffic signal this incident would have resulted into an accident. My brake pedal returned to normal sometime later. I have had three similar incidents happen whiledriving my car over an uneven road surface ( wet or dry) my brake pedal turns soft and goes to floor. As a result increased stopping distance was needed. My brake pedal always return to normal sometime later.

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. The contact stated while her husband was driving 25-30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed to the floor board and was slow to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. The contact stated that while her son was driving at 40 mph, another vehicle rapidly cut in front and suddenly slowed down. The brake pedal was depressed but failed to engage promptly. As a result, the contacts son crashed into the rear of the vehicle in front. There were no injuries sustained. The failure occurred intermittently. The vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v904000 (service brake hydraulic) but no parts were available. Two unknown dealers were called who confirmed parts were not available for the recall. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that no parts for the recall would be available until sometime in the third quarter. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000. Vin tool confirms remedy not available. *ln

For a while when i would apply my brakes i would lose them in the fact that i would have to push them all the way to the floor. After this happened a few times i would have no brakes at all. My mechanics could not figure this out because after the car would sit or i pumped the brakes they would return until finally they just went completely. At this time i came to find out that the abs system had to be replaced. They told me that this was a defect. The only company i could get the part from was ford! no other company or after-market was compatable. Tell me ford did not know about this???? cost me over $1k

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. While driving approximately 35 mph, a grinding noise was heard when the brake pedal was depressedthe brakes began to lose pressure and failed to stop the vehicle. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road, pumped the brake pedal, and was able to resume driving. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact was told by the technician that the failure could be due to the abs pump system that failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 192,319. Updated 03/07/17*lj

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. While attempting to brake at 3 mph, the brake pedal dropped independently 1-2 inches and the vehicle took an excessive amount of time to slow down. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the master cylinder failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to benson ford, inc. (4701 calhoun memorial hwy, easley, sc 29640) where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, stated that there was no recall, and transferred the contact directly to nhtsa. The approximate failure mileage was 108,000.

Following an abs incident, the brake pedal is soft and goes to the floor. Pumping the brake pedal does not resolve the issue. I am concerned the brake system will cease to function.

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. While driving and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle accelerated. The brake pedal had to be depressed to the floorboard to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to two unknown dealers. The first dealer could not locate a failure. The second dealer claimed there was a twisted brake line and claimed to have repaired the vehicle; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 95,000.*dt

Brake pedal occasionally goes to floor. It happens when vehicle in motion, sometimes when turning or when hitting a bump or pothole on the road. It occurred 5-6 times over the last 6 months or so.

I was driving on a road when i struck a bump and my brakes went simultaneously, this was 3weeks ago so i didn't think anything of it other than i may need some brakes. I got my brakes done today but i still have this same problem with the pedal going to the floor. Which prompted me to go online to investigate further.

Vehicle has a brake safety recall 19s54 from january 2020. In june of 2020 issues began where when we apply the brakes at times they work fine and other times the vehicle does not stop for an unacceptable extended amount if time. The vehicle in june was involved in a minor mva where the vehicle needed to swerve because the vehicle was not stopping in a timely fashion. Luckily this resulted in only minor cosmetic damage (scrapes that could be buffed out at no charge) to both vehicles and with no injuries. The ford motor company was contacted and they stated that i could pay out of pocket for the parts but that they would not honor the recall because the parts are not available. I spoke with west herr ford, amherst ny and they stated they do not have parts for that recall. This vehicle has remained in the driveway since june. Two days ago the vehicle needed to be moved to another place in the driveway and while in reverse the vehicle would not stop and had to be shifted abruptly into park to stop the vehicle. The issue is sporadic and so you have no warning as to when the vehicle may not stop. There is no way to maintain a safe distance when driving because the amount of time and space needed to stop the vehicle varies every time. The amount of time it is taking to repair the safety issue is unacceptable. I have concerns with the vehicle not being safe to drive and i do believe that this is an unacceptable time frame for ford customers to have a unsafe vehicle that is costing money sitting in a driveway. We do not have extra vehicles and are in need of a working vehicle for transportation. I would appreciate your attention in this matter for a timely resolution to repairing the vehicle or providing an alternate method of transportation to those customers with vehicles that are not safe to drive. Thank you for you time and assistance in this matter.

Brakes keep going mushy after abs activates, taking significantly longer to stop the vehicle. The abs activates occasionally for no reason on good dry road conditions.also, the abs light goes on and off in dry conditions.

Complete pressure loss on brakes and pedal goes all the way to the floor. Car won't stop properly.

I was entering a toll booth at a speed of 5 mph. My brake pedal lost all pressure and was close to the floor. This happened on 2 occasions. The brake pedal returned to normal after turning the car off and restarting. The situation was triggered by a small bump in the road at the tollbooth. Holman ford replaced the abs hydrolic control unit and the module. I have the receipt for the repair.

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. While driving at an unknown speed, the abs warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the pump motor circuit failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 18,893.updated 09/22/16*lj

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. The contact was driving approximately 45 mph and approaching a traffic stop. The brake was depressed when the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard erroneously. The vehicle came to a stop after the brakes were applied repeatedly. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to an independent auto mechanic who was unable to duplicate the problem. The brake malfunction recurred. The contact planned to take the vehicle to an authorized dealer for further diagnosis. The manufacturer was not notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000.

Approx. 8 months ago car did not stop after applying brakes.repair approx. $650. Now 8 months later car again goes thru intersection after applying brakes.this time $260 in repairs. Brakes still soft and i have no confidence that car will safely stop when needed.

My brakes lose pressure if i hit a bump when braking or if i slide on something while braking.after the brakes lose pressure i have to pump they brakes until the pressure builds back up which usually takes a day or so.today i slid in the snow and couldn't stop and slid into oncoming traffic, luckily i was able to correct and avoid a crash but not there is minimal pressure in my brakes which makes it difficult to judge stopping the snow while pumping brakes.previously this has happened when was stopping and hit a piece of cardboard on the pavement and couldn't stop and went into the intersection.i have to make sure i don't brake on bridges where the bridge connectors are because this also causes the brakes to lose pressure.the only time the brakes lose pressure is if i am braking when i hit a bump or something that makes me slide.this has been going on for about a year but i didn't know how to file a complaint until i saw the article last week, today it actually happened again so i am dating this today.

Manufacturer recall number19s54 nhtsa recall number19v904 this recall has been on file since: dec 18,2019. There is still no remedy. I believe this issue is causing my vehicle to have significant delays in braking into a complete stop. The manufacturer has failed or is unable to remedy this safety recall for my vehicle in a timely manner, so i would like to file a formal complaint.

When attempting to brake, the brake pedal can go all the way to the floor with limited to no braking.....seems to happen after going over a significant bump or pothole, and immediately following when the abs system engages. (meaning, after abs system brings the car to a stop and then releasing the brake pedal it will then go to the floor without braking until the system resets itself...

My daughter hit her brakes hard while driving on icy roads, and thereafter experienced the brake pedal going to the floor and increased stopping distances.i test drove her car and experienced the same thing.due to being a safety factor, and the fact we live in the midwest where traffic conditions are often slick, we felt we had to get the brakes fixed for her safety even though she didn't yet get in an accident.you cannot safely drive a car where the brakes are liable to fail at any moment you have to hit them hard through no fault of your own. This should be recalled!

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. The contact stated that the vehicle would not decelerate when the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The dealer diagnosed that the brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 18,242.updated 05/19/17*lj

Ford has failed to issue parts to dealers to fix this 2019 recall. It is now april of 2021 and the recall is still open.

On multiple occasions, while driving on concrete and gravel surface roads and depressing the brake pedal, the pedal would become mushy, resulting in the pedal going all the way to floor before the vehicle would come to a stop. The first time it occurred i was preparing to make a left turn on van dyke avenue in sterling heights, michigan, the brake pedal, which was functioning as expected prior to this, became mushy and had to be depressed all the way to the floor before the vehicle came to a stop. This incident occurred on a saturday morning, and the brakes were fine by monday morning. Pumping the brakes appeared to fix the issue.over the next year or so, this same incident occurred a few more times, usually when applying the brakes while going over a bump. Normal functioning would usually be restored after a couple of days and by pumping the brake pedal. On multiple occasions during october and november 2015, while driving on a surface street that went from concrete to gravel, the brakes went mushy again. I had the vehicle serviced for this issue, where the huntington ford dealer bled the brakes. This fixed the issue temporarily.around the end of july 2016, the brakes went mushy again when applying them while going over a bump on a concrete surface road. After a week or more, the brakes never did restore to normal functionality. I took it in for service on 8/5/16 where it was determined the hcu was failing. The dealer replaced the hcu at a cost of $1340.10. Since replacing the hcu, this issue has not resurfaced.note: i do not recall if the first incident was in 2014 or 2015.

Antilock brakes activated based on winter road conditions.after activation, brake pedal experiences a longer distance to press in order to make the vehicle come to a stop.multiple times while driving, the pedal nearly had to be at the floor before vehicle would come to a stop.this resulted in several near misses at red light intersections when the vehicle simply would not stop normally.took the vehicle into the dealership and they explained it was a faulty hcu.the repair cost would be close to $1000.since there is an ongoijng investigation into these defective hcu's, i would appreciate the nhtsa requiring a recall of the fusion and milan hcus affected.this is a safety risk and should not require the customer to replace the hcu's at their expense if there is a defect.a quick internet search yielded hundreds of comments regarding the loss of brake functionality in similar circumstances.this is not a user issue.

When i pressed on the brake to stop there was a cracking sound then the brake pedal went to the floor. When i drove forward and pumped the brakes they were almost normal. Had a mechanic check it out and brakes were normal to him. Did it three more times. We had pads routers and one galiper on the back tires replaced. Also bled all 4 brakes. Was ok for a few days but started again. This happened on the highway and on country roads.also had the tires rebalancedandaligned but nothing changed. I'm afraid to drive it.

While driving on the highway that was slightly wet the brakes all of a sudden needed to be pushed much further in order to work. I had to stretch my leg down to the floor almost for the brakes to work which was difficult as i am short. The problem went away the next day when the roads were dry again.

When i hit the brakes and the abs is activated the brakes seem to go out.they go all the way to the floor and i have to pump the brakes to get them to work.but that does not fix the problem.i have to continue to pump the brakes and sometimes after a while they come back but other times they do not come back right away.this happens when the road is wet or if i have to stop short. I have a 2009 mercury milan.the last time this happened was the weekend of november 25th i had to stop short and the brakes went out.they are still not back to normal i have to constantly pump the brakes if i don't the brake is down to the floor.and i just replaced the front brakes during that week. This has occurred numerous times with the car.

Have had several instances while driving on rough surfaces or wet conditions where the brake pedal became soft and required a lot of pumping and pushing it to the floor to stop the vehicle.vehicle required much longer distances to stop and caused son to run through a red light without an accident.brakes will work fine the next day.took to local repair shop and they could find nothing wrong.took to dealer and informed them of issues i researched concerning the abs control unit.they essentially refused to replace it even when we were willing to pay for it.they said there was no evidence it was malfunctioning.tried to explain only happens under the above mentioned conditions so far. Will get back from dealer and see if another local repair shop will replace the abs control unit.

Brakes became soft. Abs system and total brakes failed. Car was in motion gong through intersection when brakes became very soft and failed to stop car

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. The contact stated that while driving various speeds, her brake pedal would depress to the floorboard without warning. The contact initially spoke to an independent mechanic who informed her that over time, her brake pedal would depress to the floorboard. He also mentioned that as long as the vehicle would come to a complete stop, no need immediate brake services would be needed. The contact was then notified by a cousin that her vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The contact then called university ford north (5331 n roxboro st, durham, nc 27712) where she was informed that the part was not yet available and to call back in mid-march for an update. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

Abs breaks fail twice within 6 months when my wife hit an uneven surface pulling into a driveway.the break pressure required her to floor the pedal all the way down to the floor in order to stop the vehicle.i'm extremely concerned.my wife pumped the breaks to get the vehicle's break pressure back to normal.we are concerned and don't when this could happen again.we are very fearful at this point.what if she was going at a faster rate of speed or approaching an intersection.there needs to be a recall for this.i checked online and this is a known issue.i contacted ford in burlington nj and carsense of westampton nj both places to go to each other.ford in lumberton gave me the ford 800 number which i called but they provided me with empathy but no solution.if i drive over an uneven surface this evening it's possibility my breaks could fail again.does someone have to die before someone takes action against this hidden danger.

The vehicle rode over a small amount of lose asphalt or gravel, to which the abs unexpectedly engaged, immediately causing the brake pedal to "go soft" with an audible noise (the abs engagement??). Vehicle continued into intersection but avoided collision. Vehicle came to stop much further into intersection. Afterwards, the brake pedal remained (and continues to remain) substantially soft, causing the driver to press much further. This is extremely dangerous because suddenly, braking no longer works as accustomed to.

I understand there is a preliminary investigation concerning brakingsystems in ford fusion and mercury milan models from the years 2007 to 2009.i have a 2009 mercury milan. Twice in as many months, my brakes "go soft"after driving over a rough patch of road (that needs to be resurfaced),requiring substantial pressure on the brake pedal to slow and come to astop.the "soft" brakes last several days after each incident, requiring us topump the brakes to get them to engage more quickly.even after the brakes seem to "recover," they take more pressure to engagethan before the incidents occurred (and is more noticeable after drivingour 2010 ford escape, where the brakes engage easily).

Brakes malfunctioned when trying to slow down prior to making right hand turn at a stoplight. Went over a bumpy area as brakes applied. Fortunately there was no cross traffic at this stop light intersection, as the car eased into the road and before i could get brakes to fully apply.after the incident the brakes became "soft", needing to push much harder on brake pedal to brake. Incident happened on 3/1/2017.

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. While driving various speeds and attempting to stop by depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal traveled to the floor. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to stop. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by going up onto a curb. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the abs module failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

Soft pedal related to the abs hydraulics unit. Ford and everyone else knows this has been an issue for many years. Sometimes brakes go out completely then go back to normal. Ford needs to be held responsible and needs to issue a recall already. Come investigate our car and you will find you evidence proving the soft pedal is related to fords abs negligence. This is not my only complaint...

The vehicle was in motion and beginning to turn left.while the brake pedal was being applied, the abs activated and the car did not immediately slow, but slowed with additional pressure on the brake pedal several feet from where it should have slowed before continuing into the left turn.since the incident, the brake pedal is not as firm when the brakes are applied.brake pedal is spongy to the touch. The ability to stop precisely at a particular point while driving has been severely diminished and the braking distance has been increased. I believe investigation ea18-002 describes the problem that i experienced while driving the 2009 mercury milan.

While driving on a city street, the brakes were applied in an emergency situation.the abs system activated and the vehicle stopped.shortly after this the when applying the brakes the pedal had excessive travel.the abs pump was found to be defective.

While car in motion on busy street i went over uneven pavement and hit brakes harder than noemal because uneven pavement sort if just appeared and brake peddle went low. Could not stop on time. Had to roll to stop. Brakes only re engaged after i pulled off road put car in park turned car off for 10 mins then restarted and reversed car while pumping brakes. Just terrifying and unsafe. I called ford dealer who said they'll look at it in 5 days time and may not be able to fix. Guy could not have been ruder. But im taking car in and hoping in meantime not to have repeat if dangerous situation. Please advise any recourse i have to protect myself as car owner. Thanks

After an anti-lock-brake-assisted braking maneuver, on both wet and dry road surfaces, the brake pedal goes soft, and requires extraordinary pressure to activate the brakes. I have experienced this problem on both wet road surfaces (for example, during or after rain) and dry road surfaces (for example, rough surfaces or other irregularities in the road). This problem has been occurring regularly for about a year. While the anti-lock brakes aren't used regularly while driving, the 5-6 times they have been activated in this time frame have incurred the problem. Afterwards, i have to apply much more pressure to the brake pedal to get the car to stop. This happens during normal stop-and-go type situations on both wet and dry road surfaces.

On 4 occasions, while in motion (3 times while coming down a hill and hitting a speed bump in apartment complex and 1 time on the interstate after hitting a small pot hole in a construction site) i hit the brakes and after hitting the "bumps" my brakes "went out" for about 20 feet where the brake pedal floored and didn't decrease the speed of the vehicle at all. When the brakes start working again, my car begins to skid forward until i let go of my brake pedal. The pedal feels like the abs kicks in. In addition, over the past 6 months, roughly, my brakes have become very "soft", requiring alot more pressure to stop my vehicle. I just had my brake pads and rotors replaced and that did not correct the problem at all. Nothing else was said to be wrong with my brakes during the service appointment.

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the driver depressed the brake pedal to stop however, the brake pedal extended to the floor. The vehicle did not immediately stop and nearly crashed into a second vehicle. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer lugoff ford located at 979 hwy 1 south, lugoff, sc 29078 and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The contact was informed that the vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The contact stated that on multiple occasions the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 261,000.

The car was in motion when it hit a bump getting off a ramp from the highway. The brake pedal became 'soft'. Had to push the brake pedal to the floor in order for the car to stop.local dealer has stated that this is not the first time they've seen this brake issue on a car between 2007 - 2009, ford fusion\mercury milan.

My 2009 mercury milan almost has no brakes. I was driving in the snow, and had the abs actuate, and immediately the brake pedal almost goes all the way to the floor. Before my abs was actuated my pedal was completely normal. I've done a little research and know there is an investigation on this for the hcu on this model. I believe mine is failing and unsafe. It has been over a week now, and it hasn't gotten any better. I ask that this please be recalled, for the safety of myself and others. Thank you

I noticed about a year ago that under certain conditions, like when braking hard or fast with short braking distance, on wet or uneven pavement, or when making a turn while breaking, the brake pedal becomes very soft and travels to the floor causing me to have to do a number of alternative maneuvers, such as manually pumping the brakes or downshifting to a low gear to slow the engine to stop the car.in some cases, the car does not stop at all causing me to have to go through a red light or around the car in front of me.i notice that once i'm stopped, if i pump the brakes 10-15 times, the pliability seems to return to the brake pedal, but i shouldn't have to do that to feel safe.i have seen that this problem is currently under investigation and am told that there is some defect in the hydraulic braking system associated with the abs.like many others, i've had the problem evaluated and have been told that there isn't anything wrong with the hydraulics, but it continues to happen.reading what others have written makes me feel that this is a defect that should fall under a recall as it is a safety hazard and is unpredictable and intermittent.the cost to repair the problem is excessive from the estimates i've received, and even when the problem has been "fixed," it continues to happen.i am not in a position to sell the car right now and depend on it every day.the problem needs to be resolved as it is a serious safety issue, just like the gm ignitions were.does it take someone to die before a recall notice is issued!!!i'm unsure of the current mileage (because the car is currently in the repair shop), but it's above 85,000.it happens when the car is in motion and when attempting to brake in the conditions described above.it does not happen during all braking events, just those noted above, but this makes it worse because it's harder to diagnose.

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. The contact stated that there was a sudden loss of brake pressure. The brake pedal traveled to the floor, so the contact had to apply force to pump the brake pedal as the vehicle went through a red light. The dealer (flammer ford of spring hill, 3335 commercial way, spring hill, fl 34606, (352) 686-8255) was notified. The contact, a mechanic, diagnosed that the hydraulic control unit failed to function and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer issued two technical service bulletins on the brakes, but there was no recall issued. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa action number: pe16017 (service brakes, service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

The break vibrates when trying to break over rough terrain. Also the breaking distance takes longer. Some occasions i have to press the break hard enough to come to a complete stop.

Brake pedal goes soft and car fails to stop or takes prolonged time to come to a stop.if you pump brake pedal repeatedly the pedal will stiffen but gradually goes to the floor. The car has been to the dealer specifically for this problem at least twice with no resolution.recently had dealer install new brake front and rear and this has not abated the problem.printed documentation from nhtsa website and made the dealership aware of the nhtsa investigation. Dealership personnel stated they were aware of the issue but nothing formal has been issued from ford motor company.braking problem has been ongoing but periodic for almost a year. Latest occurrence was three times on mon 12/04/17.

Brakes do not work properly after hard stop. Soft and slow to stop. This is extremely dangerous as it has happened to me at least 3 times in rush hour traffic. I replace the abs unit a year ago with another used oem abs unit .today after hard brake stop again i'm having the same issue (soft and slow to stop). I drove back to home i'm parked the car on my driveway and i can drive this car till to get a new abs module. This is my first and last time that i'm going to buy a ford or mercury cars.

While trying to stop on slushy/slippery roads our anti-lock brakes engaged. After that our brake pedal was soft. It went over half way to the floor before we could feel any pressure on the brakes.this caused our braking distance to increase every time we applied the brakes.we had the hydraulic control unit replaced on/ about january 11,2019. On approximately january 29th, 2019 we again had an issue on snowy/slushy roads. We were able to avoid an accident but the brakes are again soft and stopping distance has increased. We can not afford to keep replacing this part only to have it go bad within a month. If there is a known problem with the braking system or this part why isn't ford being made to take care of it? if, as they say, the newer parts are made of a different material or are coated differently they should be replacing the part for cars affected by this problem. Please look into this problem we are having. If you need any further documentation from us please contact us.

When braking hard, the brake pedal went down 2-3 more inches more than normal before i could brake the car. Added effort was needed to stop the car. The pedal returnedto normal after 2-3 days. Happen two more times over months, but last time did not return to normal. Ford dealer replaced master brake cylinder, rear pads, and rear brake lines. Did not solve the problem. Brakes work, but added pedal travel still exists and added brake effort needed.

Soft brake pedal causing extended stopping

After hard braking on an icy hill on a rough unpaved private road, the brake pedal went very soft and has not recovered.the car was moving at low speed, 10 mph or less at the time of braking.icy patches made the road very rough.when i brake, i held the pedal down so that the abs would stop the car.

Traveling down the road on city street, and applied brakes.brake pedal went strait to the floor.brakes still going strait to the floor.

May 16,2020 i notice my breaks stop working.. May 18,2020 i was backing out of a parking space when i notice my breaks weren't working and had got into a car accident which messed my rear bumper and trunk up. I didn't realize my breaks were having issues until may 22,2020 when the car said 'brake fluid levels low' may 23rd,2020 i decided to purchase brake fluid which it still didn't attempt to hold anything. Car started out super loud like my brakes and rotors were going bad, once the brake fluid was in place it stopped the noise but didn't stop the car from saying level is low nor helped the brakes.*dt*dt

The contact owned a 2009 mercury milan. While driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floor when depressed. The dealer diagnosed that the brakes were spongy, but good. One month later, the failure recurred while driving approximately 35 mph. As a result, the contact rear ended the preceding vehicle. The crash also affected three other vehicles. The driver's side air bag deployed. A police report was filed. The driver sustained injuries that did not require medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a tow yard. The failure mileage was 80,000.

Brakes fail when needed in emergencies; especially during wet conditiiins.

While exiting onto ramp from expressway on wet pavement, i applied my brakes to slow the car. I drove over a slippery road surface and my brake pedal went to the floor. As a result, i needed increased distance to stop my car.my brake pedal returned to normal sometime later.

The 1st failure was ,after leaving a gas station, my brake pedal went to thefloor without warning. I barely missed the car in front.after 4 months, the same thing occurred after leaving a highway at a light. Ok again for a few months, there was a 3rd incident, but i can t remember the details.i hit a small pot hole and the abs came on. I lost my pedal again.when i shut the car off, the system reset and it was fine. Now whenever the abs is used, i lose my pedal without warning. It no longer resets. My mechanic has to bleed the system to get my pedal back. Im afraid to drive the car in bad weather. I have had 6 or 7 brake failures in the last 18 months.

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. While driving 45 mph with the brake pedal depressed to the floorboard, the vehicle failed to stop and slowly decreased in speed. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 102,000. The vin was invalid.

Brake pedal had 3/4 travel or more change module and control ,told operating as designed next day pedal went all the way the floor tow back to the shop bleed brakes told operating as designed brake has to much travel ,front brakes lock up on ice or snow until stop or clear pavement ,don''t drive on these day

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and pressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal went to the floor causing the braking distance to be extended. The driver had nearly collided with a second vehicle due to the failure. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer lucas ford located at 900 us-130, burlington, nj 08016 and the manufacturer were contacted. The contact was informed that the vehicle was included in the nhtsa campaign number 19v904000 (service brakes) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The failure mileage was 112,000.

After the anti-locks are used in snow the brake pedal goes almost to the floor. The car will still stop but slowly. To get the braking back to normal i had to brake hard in reverse and forward many times to get the breaking back close to normal. When the anti-locks are used again the same thing happens again. The petal goes back to the floor.

The ford company does not provide me with loaner car, even though they say on the recall notice that this problem can cause a crash.

During an abs activation the pedal went spongy and the brake system was inadequate afterwards. The ford dealer said a brake fluid bypass occurred inside of the hydraulic control unit of the abs system. Stated that they had seen quite a lot of that prob. And stated it ought to be investigated. Very dangerous inadequatestopping and increased stopping distance!

As reported by several other milan owners , which nhtsa is currently investigating, my brakes are "soft". While in motion and attempting to brake, the petal goes to the floor, leaving me to only hope my car will stopin time to avoid personal or vehicular injury. I am a retired ford engineer and know this is an fmvss, seriousviolation. I have taken it to three repair shops , including two ford dealers, and each has told me i need a new hydraulic control cylinder which is about a $2000 repair. This repair cost is about half the current value of the vehicle. I am hoping that your investigation will force a recall repair at little or no cost to me. I purchasedthis vehicle new from ford. Please advise any other actions i need to pursue.

The contact owns a 2009 mercury milan. While driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floor when depressed. The contact rear ended the preceding vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was damaged, but drivable. Meanwhile, the contact reported that there was an open investigation (pe16017) on brake issues related to the year, make, and model vehicle. I own a 2009 mercury milan. I brought it in to the dealer on february 4 2010.the complaint was that i was hearing a noise upon braking in forward or reverse. The dealership said that they found the noise. The brake pads in therear brake caliper were sliding back and forth in the bracket. I was advised that this should not be happening but , it is ok to take the vehicle and drive it this way. I asked what should be done to correct this. They said that they did not know how to fix this problem and had to notify ford to find out. This has been over a week ago. I have called the dealer back several times. They assured me they would get back to me by the end of the day. That still has not happened. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. It is still under warranty. How should i move forward on this matter.

Filed a complaint about the same issue in july of 2010. In july of 2010, i replaced the brake pads and rotors. I took the car to the dealer to check the calipers as the rear pads on the passenger side were severely worn and the pads on the driver's side were fine. Dealer indicated the calipers were fine, but had no explanation for the uneven wear. I also contacted ford directly and they did not have an explanation as to why the pads would wear so unevenly. Back brakes began pulsating again at 44,000 (only 20,000 on pads). I again replaced the pads and rotors as the passenger side was completely worn and driver's side was less thanworn. Drove 15 miles and brakes on passenger side were smoking.towed car on a flatbed to independent mechanic who said passenger side caliper wasn't working.the rotor was warped from the heat, the brand new pads were scorched and the mechanic advised it was a good thing the car was towed to the garage as it was a good chance the area would have caught fire. He replaced the calipers on both sides, the brake pads and turned the rotor on the passenger side. The pads and rotors only had 15 miles on them. The vehicle is on it's 3rd (4th if you count the pads with 15 miles on them) set of pads and rotors and the second set of calipers. This should not happen on a car with 46,000 miles.

After receiving the safety recall notice 19s54 in the mail, i contacted my local ford dealership and set up an appointment.on may 24, 2021, i brought my car to the dealership for this recall.at this time, i explained that the brake pedal was going to the floor intermittently.the car had 134,880 miles on it.the hydraulic control unit was inspected and supposedly passed.so the dealer flushed the brake system and replaced the cap.after leaving the dealership, the car sat for several weeks.two weeks after driving it again, i noticed that the brake pedal was going to the floor and it was difficult to stop the vehicle.i called the dealer and set up another appointment.the dealer had me wait about two weeks.on august 2nd, i brought my car back to the dealer for the same brake issue (safety recall 19s54).at this time the car had 135,492 miles.again they inspected the brakes and the hydraulic control unit.this time they found the hcu assembly to be faulty and recommend that it be replaced.however, ford motor company is refusing to cover this part under the safety recall 19s54 because they closed the recall after the may appointment.they want us to pay over $1500 to have it fixed.

Interior door handle will not open vehicle on driver's side door making it impossible to exit vehicle without crawling over consoleand exiting from passenger seat or opening window to access exterior door handle.this is a safety issue.as the same thing happened to my husband's ford fusion 2010 hybrid (which cost over $200 to repair at the dealership), i believe there is an issue with the manufacture/design/integrity of parts in these vehicles.in addition, there are numerous complaints on the internet ford/mercury forums citing the same problem.

The passenger side door stopped locking, now the drivers side door stopped locking this morning when i brought it to the mechanic. Also the door handle inside on the drivers side has now failed.

Contact autoway lincoln in clearwater florida the selling and they have done nothing to give any indication when they will repair this vehicle. This recall has been going on far to long since december 2017 and yet no concern of my safety driving this vehicle. Zero concern!!!

Throttle body failure....car entered limp mode out of the blue while excelerating from a stop at a traffic light.

On december 6, 2019 i was at a red light on springdale road. Heard a loud pop sound. I jumped.then i thought it was my tire. Light turned green. I turned left and my tires felt fine.then i started hearing this strange crackling sound behind me. My get was an animal my be in my trunk. I looked in my rearview mirror to see that my whole glass was shattered. Glass is everywhere in my car. I haven't cleaned it out. Only placed a plastic bag to cover opening. Thank heaven so didn't have a baby in the back as required by law to have car seat reversed.

Takato recall i took my 2009 mercury milan into the transmission shop to get it fix. The car isn't shifting correctly and is also hard shifting the transmission fluid was burnt. My wife and i had returned to the car after shopping. I started the car and drove to the first stop sign. We were on city streets in the town of nashville indiana. The car was normal. I went to the next stop sign and the car also acted normal. As i approached the third stop sign and was applying the brake the car started accelerating. The loud engine noise was also noticed by my wife. I said something is wrong with the car, the engine is racing all by itself while i am trying to brake the vehicle. The vehicle was trying to move so i had to put extreme pressure on the brake pedali looked at the engine rpm to see what was taking place and the reading was close to 3000 rpm. I held my foot very firmly on the brake pedal and took the transmission out of gear and shut the car off. I sat at the stop sign for a few moments because of the strange nature of the situation and i wasnt sure what to expect. I put the transmission into park and i restarted the car and everything acted normal.a similar sequence of events occurred periodically over the years of ownership up to the current date.the car throttle also has gone into a mode where it would not respond to the gas pedal, while driving it . It had to be shut down and restarted and it responded properly. No date or mileageto reference.this weekend i started the vehicle in the garage and the "wrench" problem light illuminated in the dash panel and the vehicle would not respond to the gas pedal. It was not drivable and had to be towed to dealership.my extended warranty expired may 2015 do to months, not milage.i am now required to pay for a new etb unit and installation.similar complaints have been registered with this make, model and vintage vehicle

I was driving up the hill & slowed down for the speedbump.i started applying the brakes to turn right into the driveway but the car lunged forward, causing me to miss the driveway & turn into the yard.as i stepped on the brake the car continued to speed up so i screamed at my husband "james i can't stop the car!"he yanked the handbrake up but it didn't stop or slow down and the enginemade a continuous high pitched racing sound.we crashed into the house, damaging it & breaking my left arm!the car was totaled.all this occurred in just a matter of seconds.fortunately our familywas in another part of the house and weren't injured.
