In december of 2013, i was involved in a fender bender. After this accident the air bag light remained on. In january of 2015 i was bumped from behind with no damage. However, i then decided i should take in my car to see why the light was still on. As it turns out, the airbag module was apparently damaged beyond repair. I believe that this part was defective as the speed of either collision should not have been enough to cause the airbag system to completely shut down. Additionally, the high cost of the module also made it very costly to repair. This model of mariner has been subject to a recall before. I had to take it into a shop because it would shut down on the highway while i was driving. I believe that more mariners will see failures of this airbag module in the future and that this will require a recall. I still have the old module should nhtsa like to inspect it to see if it is defective.
She pulled into a patients driveway and stopped she went to put it in park and the car just took off into the house. She (the driver) had to be taken to the er. She had her foot on the brake still when the car took off. I have pictures of how the right front tire was dragged through the dirt while brake was applied. It damaged the home and did over 5000.00 damage to the car. She insists it accelerated unexpectedly.
Needs a new electric throttle due to the same issues reported in previous complaints. Exact issue referenced below."in two recent complaints to nccc, drivers reported intermittent vehicle stalls and surges as they enter traffic from a stopped position or while driving at highway speeds.as the problem was initially intermittent, the drivers continued to operate their vehicles in this condition, eventually progressing to the point of keeping one foot on the brake while stopped and the other on the gas pedal to keep the vehicle running."
If this is the wrong forum for this issue, please let me know.we purchased a 2008 mercury mariner new, so the car is less than 3 years old and while garage kept the vehicle mileage exceeds the new car warranty. We took the car back to the dealership and were changed $118.00 to diagnose a problem with the backup system/sensors and were informed that the sensors were fine but the electronic device which calculates distance was bad, to replace an additional $500.00.why have backup system/sensors on a vehicle if the life of the electronics is so short if this safety device is intended to provide benefit, ours is now permanently disabled. I don't understand why "safety" equipment is not covered for longer periods of time. Regards,
I was driving my vehicle at a low rate of speed on a city street on 10/16/15 and as i turned a corner, about to pull into a driveway, there was a complete loss of power steering ! the vehicle was very difficult to control and it took all my strength in both arms to complete the turn and pull into the driveway safely. The vehicle was towed to crest ford dealership in flat rock, mi and the diagnostic code they detected indicates they need to replace the entire steering column and is supposed to be covered under ford's recall 14s05. Dave in their service department took what he described as "the first step" by sending an email to request that this repair service be performed under the recall. It was denied by ford because a different code, also covered by this recall, was addressed by liberty ford in brunswick oh on 5/11/15 (at which point they updated the power steering control module). I contact ford customer service myself on 10/19/15 and was told that the "program had been closed" on my vehicle because service under the recall has already been performed. It's ridiculous that they aren't now going to service the additional problem that has occurred and is supposed to be covered by this recall!
On june 6th, is as going approximately 35 miles per hour when the car went into idle mode.i pulled to the side of the road and the car restarted after cranking it several times.the problem continued but only when traveling at lower speeds.i made point of traveling the back roads when possible.on the 13th of august, i was on the freeway when it happened.i was only able to travel a few 100 feet and it continued this way till i got home going the back roads again.the car has sat there ever since.my husband has been out of town for three months and returned that night.he had the codes checked and they read p2111 and p2112.he did research the problem and came up with many complaints of defective throttle body.
I was driving 65 mph on the freeway when my engine stalled.i costed to the side, turned off my car, and restarted the engine.my suv ran normal for the next 5 miles before the same problem occurred.this time i was at a light and was able to stop and restart the engine.the engine started, but was running slow and the gas pedal was non responsive.i coasted to a side street where i turned off the engine.once i tried to restart the engine, it took about four times longer to start than normal.i put the suv in drive and it jumped slowly at a costing past with every fluctuation of the engine rpm pace.i would have had an accident if this would have occurred on my way home from work in traffic.thankfully it was during the day with little traffic.the dealership seems to think it is a problem with an electronic throttle body.i will be trading my mariner in for a different car because i do not feel safe driving the suv.i am fortunate that my suv stalling did not cause an accident.however, i'm sure there are others who are less fortunate.please help by forcing ford to recall these vehicles and replace this part before this issue causes a fatal accident.thank you.
Vehicle traveling at 70 mph on interstate engine quit and loss of steering and control.pulled over re started happened again. And engine light went on.re started drove to dealer later and discovered after $100.00 diagnostic that the throttle body was not working properly . Happened when mileage was between 38-39000. They wanted me to pay over $590.00 to replace their defective part at ford dealership they refused to put it under any warranty or recall . I did not have it fixed. It is a danger to allow this matter not to be recalled as it has happened thousands of times in many ford vehicles.
I was driving and the engine cut out on me and i had to pull over it wouldn't take any gas when i pulled over and stopped i shut the engine off and turned it back on i ran ruff i shut it off again and turned it back on then it ran fine. Then about 3 hours later it did the same thing again. I am afraid to go on the highway with this vehicle what ifi am in the high speed lane and this happens i have only had the vehicle 3 months i bought it from rodman ford in foxboro massachusetts. On the morning of september 10, 2013, after about a 30 minute commute to my place of work, i pulled into my work driveway, and my 2011 mercury mariner stalled.the engine seemed to cut off, the wrench light came on, and my vehicle rolled into the parking spot.unsure of what had happened with my vehicle (as it had never happened before), i immediately called my local ford dealership service department.the service manager was extremely helpful and told me it sounded like a throttle body problem, as his service department has replaced a number of these on both the ford escapes and mercury mariners.on my lunch break, i drove over to the dealership and made it with no stalling out problems.the manager then told me he would drive me back to work in the vehicle to see if it would "act up."it did not "act up" while he drove me back to my place of work, but on his way back to the dealership, it stalled out on him while he was attempting a left turn.he had to turn the vehicle off for approximately 30 seconds to let it reset.he said at this point the check engine light also came on.he got it into the service department and hooked it up to the computer.the computer generated code p2111, electronic throttle body assembly.he luckily had one in stock and it was promptly replaced.i have not had any more stalling out issues with my mariner and the issue appears to be resolved.this problem could have had deadly consequences had it stalled out at the wrong place and wrong time, particularly in an oncoming traffic situation.as the service manager mentioned to me, this has been an ongoing problem that is facing a potential recall.
Driving at highway speeds (60pmh) it would loss power and kinda limp along. I can pull off to the side of the road and turn the car off and start it bake on again an run just find after that. This has happen three time since. It is become really dangerous.
The vehicle lost all power from the motor and i had to cross lanes to get to the shoulder while free wheeling. This has now happened on 3 occasions. The motor was still running but with no pulling power. Once i had switched the motor off and waited a few moments i was able to restart and the vehicle operated perfectly.
My son and i were on the way home from football practice around 8:30pm and as i was turning right from a stop light the vehicle started slowing down and shaking. I pulled right over turned the car off and on. Once i got back on the road it did it a second time and so i proceeded to pull over and turn car off and on again. I was close to home and finally made it home.
Started vehicle in the morning for work & yellow wrench light came on, combined with "limp mode" symptoms of no throttle response. Googled & found multiple complaints for similar issues with this motor. Called local ford dealer who said the throttle body has had 3 different part numbers which leads me to believe that this has been a know issue for a while now. Ordered the latest version of the throttle body & will have it replaced by my mechanic who said its a 1/2 hr install. I will be keeping the receipts & hopefully ford will be kind enough to reimburse those who have had this fixed, if the issue does end up becoming a recall. What a headache.

Driving around 50 mph, all of a sudden the engine throttles down and the powertrain light comes on. The engine is still running, but no response when you press the accelerator. Had to pull over, shut off the engine, restarted the engine and it functioned normally. It happened two more times in the same trip. It has been happening intermittently. Bringing it in now because of potential road hazard.
Car seems to stall all power stays on but the car shakes and then stalls and the wrench light comes on which is a powertrain light. Took car to dealer they say there is nothing wrong with it.they reset the light.one week after bring the car to the dealer the wrench light comes back on and the car stalls this time i was going 55 miles an hour on a parkway thankfully i was able to pull over before the car stopped.brought to dealer, nothing is wrong with the car they recommended me to leave the heat off because there could be a problem with theheat.(don't understand that)last week the car stalled again and the wrench light came on.i am currently waiting to bring it in for service.this is not good nor safe.
As i was driving my 2011 mercury mariner it suddenly lost the power to accelerate (engine still running). The wrench light illuminates at this time. I could not do anything to increase speed (pressing on the accelerator did nothing).the only fix is to shut down the engine and re-start.the mileage is 69,xxx.this first occurrence happened on 7/25/2013, however, the same symptoms have occurred randomly several times since that time.i explained the symptoms to my local ford dealer service department and indications are a defective throttle body.
The vehicle has quit running suddenly without warning at highway speed two times and has quit running at low speed or at stop lights or has went to rough idle in limp home mode with no power available to avoid heavy traffic. Turning off ignition and waiting 3 minutes and restarting yields normal engine operation until it stalls again. Ford service has diagnosed defective throttle body but will not warranty the defective part even though it is covered under emissions controls.
I was driving through my neighborhood on the way home from going out to dinner. I went around a curve and then when i started going up a slight hill, the engine surged. I didn't think to much about it until i lost almost all power. I could not get up to a speed higher than 5 miles per hour. I was able to get within one block of my residence. I waited for about an hour as i looked up the diagnostic code that my odb2 scanner gave me. I found out that it is code p2111, throttle actuator control system - stuck open. I went back to my car, after about an hour, and it started just fine. I was able to drive my suv to my local ford dealer, with someone in another car following to make sure that i didn't have a repeating issue. I did a night key drop tonight, the same day as when the issue happened.i included the warranty letter that i had received from ford regarding the throttle body replacement. I cannot understand why ford would not issue an official recall to fix this ongoing problem. I feel very fortunate that i was not on a busy interstate highway or otherwise congested road when this happened. Will there have to be numerous reports of fatalities or serious property damage before this issue is actually rectified?
Driving highway speed and vehicle stalled, also stalled after taking off from stopped position. Pulled off of the side of the road and turned engine off and was able to restart the engine.
2011 mercury mariner. Consumer writes in regards to throttle body warranty extension. *ld

The throttle is not working right. I was almost in 2 accidents because of this. I step on the gas and nothing happens. I hear that 1000s are having the same problem but no recall. This is very dangerous when in a 75 mph zone and suddenly no power.

Of course i paid it, i need my car!please note i was told that there were at 5 or more cars with the same/similar problem.

The contact owns a 2011 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would stall without warning. The vehicle would sporadically hesitate when accelerating with the immediate illumination of the transmission warning light. The vehicle was later towed to the dealer where the contact was advised that fuel emission and the throttle body would require reprogramming. The vehicle was repairer however, the failure recurred.the manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 18,000. The current mileage was approximately 40,000.
Traveling on 2 lane road at 55 mph. Engine set at cruise control speed when power was lost. Vehicle felt like it was coasting, the accelerator would not work.i was able to coast to a stop on a side street, then had my vehicle towed to the dealer for repairs.i checked web sites last night and found this to be a recurring problem with ford escapes and mariners.cost of repair was $382.37 and not covered for any reimbursement by ford/lincoln.cutting off like this is extremely dangerous and places occupants at risk for serious injury.

Driving highway speed and vehicle stalled, also stalled after taking off from stopped position. Pulled off of the side of the road and turned engine off and was able to restart the engine.
I was driving on the interstate at about 65mph.vehicle became unresponsive to the gas pedal input.check engine (yellow wrench) light came on.i had to cross over to the right side of the road, while coasting with the engine at idle.came to a stop and that's when i realized that the car was at idle and would not respond to the gas pedal.turned off the car, and it restarted after a longer than normal amount of cranking.check engine light was out.car drove normally to my destination.took car to alan vigil ford.they said it has no stored codes, but it would need the throttle body replaced, but it was not covered under the 5/60k powertrain warranty.i also called ford customer service and they said the same thing.they charged $99.95 diagnostic fee for this.they told me to keep the receipt, incase of a future recall.same problem occurred on 10/31/12, at almost the same place on the interstate.i restarted it and now i am ordering a new throttle body.it can be found online, from a ford dealer for $120, but alan vigil ford wanted $475 to replace this part that takes no more than 10 minutes to replace.ford is aware of this.the part # is 9l8z9e926a that is replaced by ds7z9e926a.maybe they have a new vendor, that may be more reliable.this is wrong for ford to make money on consumers, on an item that may be a safety issue.what if this were to fail, while making a left turn, in front of oncoming traffic.i will not let my daughter drive my car again.
Was on a very busy four-lane road driving approximately 55 miles per hour; it was dark and raining.the car suddenly slowed to almost no movement, but the engine was running.was able to drift into a lowe's parking lot safely off the highway.the engine light and a wrench symbol appeared; i cut the engine off and waited about 10 minutes and restarted.vehicle got me to the hotel where i was staying about a 1/2 mile away.next morning, i had someone follow me so that i could attempt to get it to the ford dealer in princeton, west virginia.car stalled on 5 occasions; restarted it, go a mile or so and had to restart again.the service department was excellent - they immediately took the car in (i was in town for a funeral); tech discovered it was the throttle body.it was replaced, but at a cost of $594.85.this was the second incidence in less than 4 days with this same problem.on december 2, i took the vehicle to the local ford garage in greeneville, tennessee, where i live.the engine light had come on and i was concerned since the manual said to see the dealer immediately.local ford garage cleaned out the fuel line and said i should not have any more problems.engine light was off and i thought the car was okay.then on december 5, drove to princeton, west virginia, and the nightmare began.it appears that the ford motor company is aware of this problem since so many owners have complained.there should have been a recall and the problem resolved.it is extremely unsafe to be on the interstate or any road where traffic moves fast when your car goes to a basic idle and will not accelerate.

I was driving down the highway on my afternoon commute home with my 3 yr old daughter in the back seat and my vehicle lost power and the check engine light and a wrench light came on and it would not go above 25 mph. I almost got hit in the rear of my vehicle cause i was not expecting this to happen by any means, but i was able to coast off the highway and shut the engine down for a few minutes and restarted it drove about 5 miles and it did it again.
Manufacturer recall number16s41nhtsa recall number16v777manufacturer has no parts to fix this issue.my vehicle has this problem.taken to local dealer dec 20.dealer could not get parts. After 2 weeks i took the vehicle back unrepaired. This is a safety issue.it finally appears that ford is going to authorize obtaining parts from another supplier, but i am still waiting.this is ridiculous.i opened a case with ford but all they do is dump the problem back to the dealer whose hands are tied waiting for ford to provide parts.ford case number is cas-11363776.
While driving down the highway, in my 2011 mariner it suddenly lost the power to accelerate (engine still running).the wrench light illuminated at this time.pressing on the accelerator did nothing.fortunately there was nothing behind me so i coasted about 1/4 mile to the next turn off and coasted off the highway.then i turned the vehicle off, waited a few minutes and restarted it.i drove about 20 miles home with no other occurrence.the next day (august 14, 2013) i drove about 20 miles to work with no problems.that afternoon i left work and drove about 2 miles at 25 mph and it lost all acceleration power again (motor still running).i turned it off and restarted it.i drove another 2 miles at 25 mph and it lost acceleration power again, but this time both the wrench light and the check engine light came on (engine still running).i then drove directly to my ford/mercury dealer (about 1 mile) and told him the situation.it is currently in their shop and i haven't heard back from them yet.they gave me a loaner vehicle to drive while they check out my mariner.--extremely scary situation!if this happens to me on an interstate in a center lane with heavy traffic will be life threatening.i don't want to be afraid driving my vehicle and think a recall should be done asap!!today i have read other similar situations people have experienced with mariners and escapes.please check into this asap before there is a tragedy if there hasn't already been one gone unreported!!!thank you!!

Recall is always back ordered
Vehicle traveling at 70 mph on interstate engine quit and loss of steering and control.pulled over re started happened again.
I was driving about 60 miles an hour on an expressway when the throttle control/powertrain indicator light came on and i could no longer accelerate the vehicle. As i pulled over to stop, the vehicle lurched forward multiple times before i was able to shut the engine off.
Wrench light on mercury mariner 2011 with slow (20-40mph max) and rough ride home.yesterday while leaving work, i turned right out of the parking lot onto the main road. Immediately my mariner hesitated, jerked forward, and a wrench light came on. My suv slowly accelerated to 20mph and struggled to get to 40mph. It road rough and i wasn't sure if it would stall or not; however, i was able to slowly make it home. I looked up the wrench light and learned i was likely having a throttle body or powertrain problem. I found online that the dealer would fix it, but unfortunately, that was only through january 2015 and had expired (before the dealer even sold me the suv.) i started the suv this morning to take to the dealer to get fixed, but the wrench light has gone off and there is not proof to show the dealer of the problem. I am looking into replacing the throttle body at my own cost as a preventive nature. I wish i would have known of this before the dealer sold me the car.

2011 mercury mariner. Consumer writes in regards to throttle body warranty extension. *ld
Friday 24th, the wrench sign came on, the car shut down in traffic. Called the dealer, told me to pull the key out and then restart after 5 minutes. It started and he okayed me to drive it. He said it was a 1time glitch. Later in the day, pulling out of a restaurant, it did the same thing. So i repeated what the ford service tech told me. The next morning i brought it directly to the ford service center where the tech told me that since the light indicator didn't remain on, there is no way to tell what the cause was. He told me to drive it until it happened again and the light remained on. 2 days later, this happened. I had the car towed to the service center and they dropped it for service for the next morning because it was sunday night. Monday, got a call from the tech who said the lighy went back off so they are at square one. I just so happen to have gotten the engine light code ran before it got towed and it came up p2111. Tech diagnosed that i need a new throttle body but the part is on backorder with no eta.
While cruising on i-40 headed towards nashville, my car went into an idle state and i forced to the side of the road to turn off the car. Turned it back on and it ran for another 25 miles and did the exact same thing. I took it to the ford dealer where they looked for any codes. The code that they found was p2111 for a powertrain throttle body. None of these parts are in stock anywhere in tenn from what the tech said. I was forced to travel back to dallas in a vehicle that would randomly go into an idle state where i was forced to exit the road to turn off and re-start my vehicle. Upon doing some research, it appears that several for vehicles are having throttle body issues. Also, i learned just today that the part i need,ds7z9e926d costs $324 at the dealer. The parts person mentioned that are now on part #d and that the previous parts are defective. My powertrain is under warranty, however, "this part is not covered even though it is part of the powertrain" per the ford tech.please include this into any ford throttle body issues that are being investigated. Thanks.
The throttle is not working right. I was almost in 2 accidents because of this. I step on the gas and nothing happens. I hear that 1000s are having the same problem but no recall. This is very dangerous when in a 75 mph zone and suddenly no power.
2011 mercury mariner transmission failed without warning, the computer chips should have given some kind of warning.
Last year, driving on state highway and vehicle loses power.wrench light comes on, engine is running, no gas, etc.shut off, wait, and start again.light is off and runs ok.this happened several more times.contacted ford customer assistance and showed there was a customer experience recall on throttle body.took it to a dealer and they found nothing wrong.i got it back, and problem reoccurred.took it back to dealer, they drove it around, and couldn't find anything wrong.finally, in another city, left work and lost power and engine light came on and didn't go off after restart.contacted dealer and they replaced throttle body sensor (or similar) for free.this last week, was driving on interstate 75mph in traffic and i lose power in passing lane.luckily coasted to shoulder, restarted and lights off.happened again this morning going to work on state highway at 60mph.talked to ford and was told they cannot help me until i have a dealer look at it.cannot get an appointment until end of next week.worried about driving this vehicle i've had less than 5 years, but if dealer cannot find error, i have to take my chances and wait until they can get an error.
Vehicle was exiting a parking lot, stopped in the right turn lane. Pressed accelerator to pull out of parking lot and vehicle began jolting violently back and forth and barely moving forward - but did move into the oncoming traffic lane. Eventually vehicle was unable to move and engine stopped. Had to push vehicle to side of road to restart. Dealer advised broken "throttle body and mo" not covered by warranty and forced to pay for repair.
My wife was driving the 2011 mercury mariner on the interstate at 60 mph when the wrench light (throttle control/powertrain) came on and the car speed dropped rapidly to about 20 mph. Fortunately she was able to pull the mariner over to the side of the interstate and came to a stop and shut the engine off. When she restarted the mariner the light went away and power to the mariner was restored. This is has happened to the mariner twice.
I was driving along with a full car of soccer players and lost momentum.had to navigate to the side of road .. The vehicle threw an orange wrench light which is my manual said it was a power train problem.i was happy to be safe and ok with the fact that it would be covered on power train(my assumption).later found out it was the throttle body and because i am outside mileage warranty on bumper to bumper (but inside the years) it is going to cost me $485.20.i am animate and will get this reimbursed by ford motor company.
Http://www.autoblog.com/2013/02/25/nhtsa-investigating-725k-ford-mercury-vehicles-for-stalling-iss/ - read comments on this site. Exactly what our mariner is doing. 60 to zero in 2 seconds. Yellow wrench light comes on, vehicle no longer accelerates, pullover, turn off, restart. Has happened 3 times.
While driving on i90, recently noticed noise in steering column which has gotten progressively worse and steering wheel now shakes. Taken to ford dealer was told it was atorque angle steering sensor. Fix about $500 unless the steering column is broken! fix then 1530. How does a steering column break? recall 14s05 for steering problem. Supposedly if this was fixed ford is released from any recall dealing with steering if it has been replaced. Apparently ford omitted this info from the public just wondered if i have any recourse to resolve this. Ford dealer says no recall. Ford company says this is not under recall as i had prior recall taken care of. There are numerous other complaints regarding this vehicle and the same exact problem with the exact same outcome. I have had other problems with ford products resulting in hospitalization and haven't done anythingg i can not allow this one togo unnoticed. Thank you
I went to my mechanic with a steering problem, and it was part of the torque sensor issues that was recalled. My car falls in those dates but there is no recall on my vin for that part. And i don't get why.
The contact owns a 2011 mercury mariner. When the contact attempted to drive the vehicle, the steering wheel failed to turn and the power steering assist warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the torque sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle was once repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering); however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the recall was a one time repair. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
The contact owns a 2011 mercury mariner. While driving 45 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The vehicle was taken to k c motorsports (located at 2401 e 11th st, tulsa, ok 74104, (918) 599-0066) to be diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 170,000.
Regarding:nhtsa recall number 14v-284, ford recall number 14s05 electric power steeringthe recall instructions to dealers call for a signal test and either reprogramming a sensor or replacing the torque sensor based on the results.it also calls for replacing the torque sensor upon failure if the failure occurred before the vehicle had the recall sensor performed.the recall instructions to dealers also tells them that a torque sensor that fails after the reprogramming was done is not covered by the recall.the purpose of the sensor reprogramming was to initiate a warning in the driver control center upon imminent sensor failure, but does nothing to fix, repair or replace the defective part. I had the dealer perform the test and software upgrade and was under the mistaken impression that the recall was to actually replace the statistically faulty part , and not just a potential warning.the electric power steering on my vehicle failed on 4-12-2018 and, incidentally, i did not get a warning on the driver information center before the failure; so the reprogramming did nothing for my vehicle. My question is why is ford/mercury not required to replace the failed sensors that are the subject of the recall?i understand ford not being required to replace sensors that might fail but giving drivers notice of imminent failure, but ford should be required to replace sensors that do fail even after the reprogramming because the reprogramming is not intended to fix the problem just warn drivers.the sensor replacement is nearly a $2000 repair that i believe should be covered by the recall.can the nhtsa explain the rational for not requiring ford to actually fix the defect that causes a serious hazard?
Power steering assist will go out without warning causing the car to lose it's power steering and may even lock up totally.this has happened repeatedly since june of 2017 and has gotten progressively worse.we had to repair it in december of 2017 at a cost of $1500.00.
Ford has not fixed the issue!vehicle was taken in do you do recall my previous owner and only software was updated pertaining to the power steering recall. It is not a software update issue. The torque sensor must be replaced. Ford will not cover nor reimburse this issue. Many other customers are having this exact same problem. The power steering assist goes out without warning and makes the vehicle very dangerous to drive. I was driving my vehicle this morning and out of nowhere the turning became very difficult.
Driving at 40 mph car stalls, pull over, car starts up engine lite on, (sat) take to dealer on mon (12/15/2014), explain to dealer, they call 3 hours later to say "purge valve needs to be replaced"ok this should be covered right? she says no! the cost to you will be $320.33. I told her this is part of the emissions, it has to be, she said no its not!i purchased this car from this dealer 3 1/2 years ago, (bought is new) still underwarranty.. But this is not covered! the 800 number to fords blew me off! and said what the dealer says goes!>. Why did she suggest i call them then! (not good customer service) i was hoping for explanation! please help, this should be covered. Look at your on line complaints about this! shame shame shame. Of course i paid it, i need my car!please note i was told that there were at 5 or more cars with the same/similar problem.
The contact owns a 2012 (na) mercury mariner. While attempting to drive the vehicle, the contact heard a loud abnormal sound and the steering wheel seized. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the bins, gears, and steering column failed and was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that there was no recall for this failure. The failure mileage was approximately 147,500.
The contact owns a 2011 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced intermittent power steering assist failure with an unknown warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that there was a recall on the vehicle for the power steering assist failure. The vehicle was then taken to bright bay lincoln, inc. (1174 sunrise hwy, bay shore, ny 11706) and newins bay shore ford (219 w main st, bay shore, ny 11706) where the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The contact also called hassett ford (3530 sunrise hwy, wantagh, ny 11793, (516) 785-7800) and was provided the same information as the other dealers. The manufacturer had was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
I'm very upset and on the verge of tears! my steering wheel suddenly locked on me! i almost wrecked! this has happened a few times & i have no warning light on my dashboard
The contact owns a 2011 mercury mariner. While driving approximately 60 mph, the steering ability became very difficult. The contact decreased the speed and drove home. The dealer was not notified. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 91,000.
The contact owns a 2011 mercury mariner. While driving approximately 35 mph and attempting to make a turn, the steering ability seized. The vehicle struck a curb and was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering column needed to be replaced. The vehicle was being repaired at the owner's expense. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact also stated that the vehicle was repaired last year per an unknown recall for the steering module. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 129,000.
Just bought this vehicle 1/25/2018. It has a moldy smell. How can i tell if it is a flood vehicle? it also has a air leak in the front windshield, that i can hear, when driving. This vehicle, was from louisiana. I will contact the dealer, monday morning about the windshield.
Front lower sub frame rust through in aria under a/c , close to point of braking . Seams to be a comin problem as my repair shop said they replace three or four a year . Some have broken while on road causing steering problems .this apparently happens when the vehicles are aboutten years old .# found on inspection .
This car has excessive under body rust under all the wheels wells.i was just told that my car would not pass a state inspection because the on the front drivers side there is a bracket that holds up the engine is almost totally gone.i have read and over that this vehicle has a known rust and corrosion issue and mercury/ford has not been made responsible.i bought this car from a ford dealer in aberdeen, md used in 2018 and made them aware that i noticed rust on the rear wheel panels.they told me there is no recall however now i am not in a position to purchase or fix the entire under carriage of this vehicle. And i do not feel safe that an important bracket supporting the engine is totally rusted out.
I was on onramp, vehicle slowed down, wrench light lit up on dashboard.vehicle would not accelerate.i pulled to the side of the highway and restarted vehicle.vehicle continued to do this for the duration of our trip.

Defective throttle body.
The contact owns a 2011 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the rpms increased as the vehicle independently decelerated. The contact shut the engine off and restarted the vehicle. The failure continued intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician stated the throttle body would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 37,755.
Driving down a highway at 60mph the 2011 mercury mariner stopped accelerating. Pulled over to the side of the road. Waited 3 seconds and restarted the car. It hesitated to turn over but did restart.
The contact owns a 2011 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while exiting the highway ramp at approximately 30 mph, the vehicle lost acceleration then the mil and check engine warning lights illuminated. The contact performed a diagnostic which located the failure at the throttle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 41,926.
The contact owns a 2011 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shake violently. The contact mentioned that the most recent time the failure occurred, the vehicle decelerated independently and without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the throttle body was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 58,000.
After closing the rear door, the rear window exploded with extreme force, sending glass fragments to the far edges of the garage. There was nothing in the car to hit the window and the garage door was closed.fortunately i was not standing behind the car or i may have been seriously injured. I find many occurrences of this for the ford escape which i understand is the sister car to the mariner.even though mercury will no longer be made, the escape will continue to be made.i believe the window design to be defective and needs to be investigated.
The contact owns a 2011 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked at a grocery store parking lot the rear door hatch window exploded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who replaced the glass. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure and current mileages were 350.
Got home from shopping, fiancee was getting the rest of the groceries. She closed the trunk normally, never slamming or anything, and the entire rear windshield shattered and fell to the ground. Luckily, no one was injured, but she could have been seriously injured if one of the large pieces had fell on her or a shard could've flown in her eyes. A windshield should not shatter and explode from normal use, this is clearly defective and i will be in direct contact with the manufacturer. It is my belief that the hydraulic pumps responsible for holding the windshield up when it is opened somehow malfunctioned and pushed on the winshield too hard when it closed, resulting in the complete shattering of the windshield.
Vehicle was parked and it was a very cold (28 degrees) and rear hatch glass just shattered.
Vehicle parked in driveway. Closed main rear hatch and rear window exploded.
Rear window exploded upon closure. There was no interference. Oat was 58* interior temperature was 72*.
