When i come to a complete stop there is vibration coming from where the air bag is. I have noticed this the past few months and it is constant every time i am at a stop. This only happens when i have a passenger and the air bag light goes off.

Driver's side door was struck by a chevy astro cargo van going approximately 70 miles per hour on the highway (d.c. Beltway) and the side airbags did not deploy. A maryland state trooper (who saw the car) and the mechanic at the auto repair shop where the vehicle was towed both said the airbags should have deployed. Both said if the airbags had worked, the driver would not be as severely injured.

Passenger airbag warninglight in instrunment cluster stays on. The airbag is currently deactivated. This item is not covered under the waranty. Why not?

Air bag warning light on dash instrument panel stays on, indicating that air bag is not activated,

Speedometer instrument cluster gauges keep going out and causing suv to not start

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated the air bags involuntarily deployed while driving approximately 5 mph. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The contacts insurance company was also unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 2,000 and the current mileage was 30,635.updated 06/16/11 the consumer stated as he was entering a small driveway to a store, the air bag suddenly deployed. He then hit a curb and damaged the oil pan. Updated 12/05/11

Seat belt was able to save me in the accident but air bags never deployed after hitting concrete almost head on. Air bag sensor malfunctioned and light turned in but did not deploy.

The air bag on my 2008 (purchased new in august 2009) mercury mariner deployed (no accident)ford, in effect called me a liar but farmers insurance fixed the problem and did not charge the incident as an accident.i do not feel safe in this vehicle but as i have said before ford while being very polite said this has never happened. That has the effect of calling me a liar but, there are articles that show that air bag deployment does happen.

Over the last couple weeks we have experienced a loss of power steering and an increasingly severe "shaking" of our steering wheel when it is working. We took the car to the mechanic and was told that we need to replace the entire steering column due to a failure of the electronic power steering. The part alone is $900, $1,400 with labor. After doing some research online it appears as though this is quite a common issue for '08 escapes and mariners (http://www.carcomplaints.com/ford/escape/2008/steering/power_steering_failure.shtml). It is extremely dangerous because i cannot turn the wheel at all when the power steering goes out. It has not gone out mid-drive for us yet, but have read of that happening to people. For us, when we turn the vehicle on, there will be no power steering and we have to turn it off and back on again 1-3 times before the power steering will work. And then there is a severe "shaking" while driving. I am shocked the defective electronic power steering has not been recalled for these very popular cars. We drive a 3 year old and 5 month old in our car. We cannot afford this type of repair, but clearly cannot afford to drive our children in the cars very dangerous condition.

Speedometer instrument cluster gauges keep going out and causing suv to not start

Manufacturer's faulty ignition lock module wears out prematurely and vehicle often doesn't start. Caused consistent but intermittent problem for last 3 years. Research shows this is a common problem on 2008-2012 mariners, ford escapes and 2008-2011 ford focus, which all use the same ignition lock.

Key ignition doesn't work.car won't start without jiggling key.

While driving the car on a highway, the warning light chimes and displays to "safely stop vehicle". The car no longer accelerates and slows to a stop even if you don't have a shoulder to pull off to. I normally just hit my hazard lights and pull to a stop, wait a few minutes then restart the engine. This happen once a month and sometimes twice or three times in a row.if the hybrid electronics system overheats, it may shut down the powertrain, resulting in a stall-like condition, increasing the risk of a crash. There is currently a recall on this problem #14s19. Called ford and they said my vehicle isn't a part of it even though it clearly was built in the same time and has the exact issue. Very dangerous and scary problem.

December, 2013, i was exiting parking lot onto a main street that had 2 lanes of oncoming traffic.halfway into the street, lost power steering but was able to drift to side of road.january, 2014 car would not go over 25 miles per hour, lost power steering.fortunately i was near the garage that does my repairs, oil changes, etc..march, 2014, steering wheel locked, no power steering, had to wait about a half hour until power steering returned...kept turning car off and on every 10 minutes. Contacted ford customer service 3 times by email (jan-mar). My last 3 cars have been ford products but apparently brand loyalty is not valued.replies were--sorry you are having issues-no follow up from ford even when hey knew they were issuing a power steering recall as of april-may, 2014.i paid $2,500 in repairs from dec'13-mar'14.

Steering wheel will freeze up while driving.steel on steel horrible noise when driving. Shifter gets stuck have to put it in neutral to start it.

My vehicle was covered under recall 14s05 and said recall work was done in 2014 in va under the previous owner, ford does not have record of what "step" or part of the recall was done, there are 3 parts.less than 4 years, the recalled part, the torque sensor in the power steering assist has faulted, which leads me to believe that it wasn't replaced under the recall.since it's been more than 12 months or 12,000 miles they are not willing to replace the said recalled part that was originally covered.the car was in drive when the assist faulted causing steering to be very difficult and had i been driving at a higher rate of speed could have potentially been accident causing.i feel that the recall work should be extended to replacing the part since it wasn't done originally under the recall or was again replaced with a faulty sensor to fault again within less than 4 years

The vehicle will stall when it comes to a stop, mid turn, slowing down, and sometimes accelerating. Several websites show 100's of complaints from people with the same issue. It is a may safety concern because it dies at any point while driving.

I was driving on the interstate in traffic and had a complete loss of power steering, making it nearly impossible to pull over or get off the highway.

My parents purchased a 2008 mercury mariner this last spring, and just started to notice that the electric power steering is cutting in and out. We took it to our local garage who diagnosed the problem (error code that came up was b1342-2f) and recommended we replace the steering column. Since that is a large expense ($800) i decided to do some research and called the local ford dealer. They looked up our vin and told me that there was a recall on the electric power steering and that the work for the recall on the power steering was already done. (ford's recall number for this is 14s05) my question is since we are experiencing the same failure (meaning the fix didn't seem to last) is there any recourse for us to have ford fix the problem now? also, how long are these 'fixes' supposed to last? the date the recall was published by nhtsa is 2014-06-05, and we are only in september of 2015. I was thinking that a recall fix should last longer than a little over a year. Is nhtsa in the process of reviewing this issue?

In march 2018, i noticed the steering wheel would shake when coming to a stop sign or stop light and make a grinding sound. It continued to do this every time for a couple weeks. Then toward mid march, i was backing out of a driveway and the power steering totally went out.it stated on panel "power steering default assist." it took extreme effort to steer the wheel to the side as the steering wheel was extremely rigid. Because it is a safety hazard to drive, it has only been driven to move car in apartment parking lot. I got this vehicle in june 2017 from a car dealer with no warranty. Ford says this vin # is not included in recall for torque problem with power steering failure. As this is a manufacturing defect and a safety hazard, i want this vehicle vin added to recall list. If i drive it on open road, it will surely cause injury to my family. I can't even maneuver the steering wheel.

Ford's recall "code 14s19" on 2005-2008 mariner hybrids and escape hybrids should cover all of these hybrids but it has exceptions!ford has issued a recall on *some* of the 2005-2008 ford escape hybrids and *some* of the corresponding mercury mariner hybrids. However they are refusing to issue a recall on my particular 2008 mariner hybrid (which is exhibiting the electronic overheating problem described in the recall where the stop safely now comes on and there is an immediate loss of power). They are refusing to fix my mariner just because the vin number does not match the particular manufacturing lot covered by the original ford recall - though my suv does fall in the date range mentioned in the recall)i am certain this recall should cover more hybrid suv than ford has admitted to, and since the mariners had a very limited production run, it is less likely that there wil be a significant number of complaints due to this very serious life threatening issue - and i would like to emphasize that there have been numerous complaints about this including on nhtsa.ford should expand this recall to include all defective ford escapes and mariner hybrids before serious accidents start occurring as a result of vehicles shutting off during operation because of either drive electronics over heating due to a bad coolant pump, (and possibly other causes?). ----relevant recall--nhtsa vehicle safety recallsrecall number14v526000recall date09/03/2014componenthybrid propulsion systemford contact number for recalls 1-866-436-7332. The car was driving down the road (a city street, not a highway) and a triangular light came on the dash, along with a message to stop safely. The engine shut down and i had to coast into a parking lot. This had happened previously and i had paid a dealership to replace the hybrid cooling pump. I later found out that this part had been recalled and was reimbursed by the manufacturer for the original repair. The same part has failed again according to the dealership, but upon contacting the manufacturer, they refuse to replace the part again.

New 2008 mercury mariner intermittent will not start or hard to start and when starts emits heavy black smoke from exhaust. When car did not start left daughter in a unsafe environment. Took car to local dealership, service department admitted ford was aware of the problem there is a service bulletin out on the car bulletin # 6023000 and # 20140. Dealership also admitted ford has no fix for the problem at this time. Car is unsafe and can leave the driver in a deadly situation.

This is reference tonhtsa id number: 10653141.i discovered the july 1, 2014 ford's safety recall 14s05 notice to all us ford dealers. On page 6 a question and answer for the ford dealers from ford's service engineering operations, reveals ford never attended the reprogramming the modules to fix the safety recall for electronic power steering for escapes and mariners 2008-2011 models. This is the excerpts from this document tilted july 1, 2014 to: all us ford and lincoln dealers subject safety recall 14s05.q3. What does the software updates do?a. The software updates may extend the time steering assist is maintained. In addition, theupdate provides increased driver awareness by sounding a chime and displaying thewrench light or warning in the message center when a fault is detected.q4. What if a customer experiences loss of steering assist after the modules havebeen reprogrammed?a. The modules were reprogrammed to prevent sudden loss of steering assist while driving.additionally, the instrument cluster software update will provide audible and visualindications to the driver in the unlikely event of a torque sensor fault. Any subsequentloss of assist repairs experienced after completion of module reprogramming are notcovered by this recall.q5. What should i tell a customer who experiences loss of steering assist after therecall has been performed?a. The modules were reprogrammed to prevent sudden loss of steering assist while drivingin the event of a torque sensor fault. Customers should be advised that the replacementof the steering column or torque sensor is at their expense.

Safety recall 14s05 -as a result of the recall ford upgraded the software in my car in dec. 2015, but three months later the steering failed. (the car was parked on a quiet san francisco street when i tried to start it and realized that the steering wouldn't work.) i first towed the car to my local mechanic, who looked at it for a week and then told me that it was related to this safety recall; he advised me to take the car back to ford. When i re-towed the car to ford dealership, they refused to honor their written commitment to repair the problem and instead tried to argue that because i got a software update, their responsibility was over. When i asked if the symptoms in my car matched those the recall was meant to fix, the dealership admitted the symptoms matched. They say they can't do anything b/c a "code" didn't trip. I also noticed that the recall says that software upgrades "may" fix the problem and should at least notify the driver by beeping. My car never beeped, but more importantly a software update that "may" fix the problem is not sufficient for safety! the steering issue should be fixed/replaced by ford! ford is negligently putting customer lives in danger. Moreover, ford shouldn't be able to push the cost of a malfunctioning, core product feature onto customers. When i purchased the car, at the top of the market price for it, i was not told "in 50,000 miles you will have to pay several thousand dollars for a completely new steering column because this one will fail and people in your car may die." please investigate as many consumers are complaining about how ford is trying to push responsibility for recall 14s05 onto individual car owners.

Power steering completely failed while operating the car, posing a danger.transmission lurches on upshift between 1 - 2 gear while accelerating.electrical system will not charge battery and completely fails while the vehicle is in operation on the highway, posing a danger.vehicle may or may not restart immediately.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner.the contact stated that when raining, water entered the vehicle through the windshield. As a result, the front driver and passenger side would get wet and caused the instrument panel to fail. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,400.the vin was unavailable.

While pulling away from a stop light ,an attempt to make a right turn was made. In the middle of the turn, the power steering assist quit. The turn was near impossible to complete and i almost ran over a gas station sign. After wrestling the car to a stop in a gas station i turned off the ignition and called my husband. He suggested i have the car towed to a repair shop. While on the phone i restarted the truck and the power assist resumed working. I returned home without incident. Someone is going to be killed if they are not strong enough to control a truck like this without power assist. The power assist has quit three times since and only my husband drives the vehicle now.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving approximately 75 mph, the traction control, service engine, and abs sensor lights illuminated and an audible chime was heard. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering mechanism was faulty. The steering system was reprogrammed, but the failure continued. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic power assist system was faulty. The contact was informed that the repair was previously performed in 2014 under nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering); however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,720.

Vehicle shut down while driving on the interstate at approx. 65 mph, immediately losing all power. Message on dash read "stop safely now". This is a very dangerous issue. Driving on the interstate at 65 mph and it has occured 8 times since i purchased this car. Ford has repaired the car for this 3 times (in 2009, 2010, 2013), the first 2 it was under warranty, this last one the repair cost was $350. What is terrifying about this situation is that it occurs without warning and you have about 10 seconds to react, i've been very close to getting rear ended a couple of times. I was able to restart the vehicle every time, but what surprises me is that even though this situation is so serious, i did not find out until now it's so common. I will be shopping for a new car soon, i had enough. I kept the car this long because other than this issue, i really love driving it.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. After the dealer reset the computer on the vehicle, the contact experienced steering and electrical issues. When the contact started the vehicle, the steering wheel seized. The contact had to wait several minutes before the steering returned to normal. In addition, the contact had to turn the ignition from on to off several times in order to start the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 170,000.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving 35 mph, the steering wheel seized and the contact was unable to steer the vehicle. The contact was able to pull over to the side of the road. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to conway ford (2393 us-501, conway, sc 29526) where it was diagnosed that the steering column lock module needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The failure mileage was unknown. Contact states that when vehicle was left over night in a parking garage the steering was completely out upon starting vehicle. The only way steering would work is with the help with another person turning the wheel. Contact states ignition stopped working as well and needed to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the power steering became inoperbale after the vehicle was cold started. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who located failure code: b2278 (steering torque sensor). The dealer (koons silver spring ford, 3111 automobile blvd #1, silver spring, md 20904, (855) 458-6764) diagnosed that a new steering column assembly and ignition housing assembly were needed. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 115,000.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the ignition switch module went out and caused the vehicle to become inoperable. The vehicle was towed to barber ford in holland, mi (640 e 8th). The manufacturer was not notified. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 180,000.

Mercury mariner recall,i purchased a 2008 mercury mariner on9/27/14. On12/19/14 at night while on highway the wrench warning light came on and the car decreased speedand i almost got hit by the carfrom the rear, pulled in emergency line and had suv towed. Required a transmission on 12/26/16 for $1475. On 1/14/16 while onhighway duringexiting on exit the steering wheel became difficult to turn ,hit the guard railthere where not warning light to indicate that the steeringhad a problem, had the suv towed to shop and repairedsteering shift torque senor for $428.00.on 1/10/17after grocery shopping the suv would not start, called cab to take me home with groceries, returned to have suv towed to shop repair the ignition starter switch for $176.00. On9/21/17whenleaving for work, the key would not turned, towed to shop and required lock cylinder housing $434.00. I would like ford to reimbursement for all the repairs and towing cost.vin [xxx], not on recall list yet and these repairs are related to recalls for my 2008 mercury mariner.i am upside down still owe $7100. For balance. Was unable to make scheduled payments when repair where required, effected my credit score.at the present time the torque converter in not working on the transmission and my car is disable. I would like ford to replace the transmission at no cost to me.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

3 months ago i took my 2008 mercury mariner into ford for the power steering recall. They were to do one of three things: update the software for the power steering, replace the torque sensor or replace the power steering column. They only updates the power steering system software. Day 1 after it being fixed, i was experience an extremely shaky steering wheel and a "power steering assist fault" indicator that would randomly show up now and then. Ford said they could look at it but that it would not fall under the recall. February 4, 9:00am, my power steering goes out pulling into work. I took my car into ford today and they exclaimed that my power steering motor and column need replaced but again this has nothing to do with the recall. I experienced no problems with my power steering prior to the software update. After reading several (a couple hundred) reviews by other customers, they experienced the same exact incidents a few months after the update, but ford said they had to pay the full $1,200 to replace the steering column. It is sickening to know that this "update" is actually causing power steering to malfunction and putting people's lives in danger. On top of it, ford says once the update is ran, there is nothing more they can do under the recall, when they know full well know what the update is doing and putting money in their pockets. Someone please look into this. Lives can be lost due to this malfunction that should not be swept under the rug.

Sensor in stering wheel is bad, also jerks when it shifts

In march 2018, i noticed the steering wheel would shake when coming to a stop sign or stop light and make a grinding sound. It continued to do this every time for a couple weeks. Abs light ,regen brakes disabledand check brake system message comes on at anytime while driving. Lose braking power, causing driver to push brake very hard to stop and brake pedal sometimes goes to the floor. When car stops sometimes it won't restart for days. It has a new battery. Coolant code comes on also and the car isn't running hot. This is a dangerous problem and needs a recall. Other than that the car runs great.

I was driving on highway route 22 at approximately 60 mph, when suddenly the throttle stopped responding and the tachometer started dropping. In a matter of seconds the tachometer reached zero and the vehicle stalled, while i was in traffic on the highway. I coasted off to the shoulder and put the vehicle in park. When i tried to restart the vehicle, the engine would turn over and start up, however, immediately after i let go of the key, the tachometer would drift back down to zero and the vehicle would stall. After a few more failed attempts, i called for a tow. Since this occurred after hours, no one was available to work on the vehicle until the next morning. In the morning when i attempted to show the technician the failure, the vehicle started up as it did the evening before, then the tachometer started dipping back down, then just before it stalled, the tachometer fluttered a little, then the engine revved back up and began idling normally. The technician indicated that there were no events logged in the vehicles computer to give him an idea of what caused the sudden stalling, and he could not find any obvious issues with the vehicle. The vehicle was returned to me without repair and the technician warned me that it is likely that this would happen again and that they cannot diagnose it unless they see it when it is not working. Now i am concerned that this will happen again while driving and that it will cause an accident, or worse. I read an article from the north carolina consumers council stating that there is a known issue with the throttle body of this vehicle that causes sudden engine stall while driving. Ford issued an extended warranty on certain vehicles for this piece, however when i contacted the dealership and mentioned consumer satisfaction program 13n03, they informed me that my vehicle did not qualify. I'm not sure what to do next.

I had just made a right turn and was proceeding down the block when i heard a sudden "click" and lost power.i couldn't steer and there was no power.i managed to get the car over to the curb and turn off the engine.i restarted it a few minutes later and it started up ok.however, the rsc warning light stayed on even though i had never pressed that button.this is not the first time this has happened.the first time it happened i was told it was a battery problem so i got a new battery.that was less than a year ago and i can't imagine i need a new battery that often - that simply needing a new battery will cause my car to fail!in doing some research i've come across several instances of the same issue necessitating replacement of the throttle body module with trouble codes p2111 and p2112 and, in fact, the north carolina consumers council (nccc) has officially petitioned the national highway safety administration (nhtsa) for a defect investigation of alleged throttle body failures in 2005-2012 ford escape vehicles sharing the same or substantially similar part.luckily i was only on surface streets and not the freeway.it's only a matter of time before this happens on the freeway!is there going to be a recall?

My vehicle is having trouble steering, took my vehicle to the repair shop and they informed that it was a recall on it. I took my vehicle to the dealership and they told me since my vin number for me vehicle was not in the recall there was nothing that they could do and wanted to charge me $125.00 to put it on their machine, i already to my suv to the shop and they informed to go to the dealership

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated the vehicle intermittently stalled while driving various speeds and after starting. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Themanufacturer had not been made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.updated 06/17/14*ljupdated 8/21/2017

Front main seal is leaking vehical is dripping oil on muffler when sitting still

While driving my car stalls without warning then it jerks real hard and takes off so i have to ride the brakesafter coming to a stop before i can press the gas peddle it takes off so i ride the brakes. While driving again it picks up speed on its own very scare please help.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.

My wife was driving on her way home, and out of nowhere the steering felt weird, and while driving the car shut off. No power steering or power brakes (due to engine shutting off) and we do not know why this happened.

The car is reving high and accelerating poorly. Then the red triangle light telling me to stop safety now comes on causing me to pull over and shut car off. I turn the car back on and it drives but with same issues. Look on the carcomplaint.com website for tsb-09-19-12 and tsb-08-24-5 which detail what my car is doing and makes it appear like there is a cooling pump recall. Ford just told me there are no recalls listed for my vin though. The frequency of which the red triangle light comes on is increasing this month. It was every few months and now it is weekly-daily.

Driving the truck through a drive thru at a mcdonalds with my 2 year old son in backseat and the power steering stopped working as proceeding thru drive thru, almost hitting the building having no control over truck. Very dangerous problem with this make and model/this is a safety hazard and someone will end up as a casualty if this problem with steering not recalled by ford. I am a 280 guy and could barely steer the truck until i shut it of and restarted it. Also oil leak on engine for most of these v6 mariners and escapes is above oil pan by harmonic balancer, ford refuses to admit they did a horrible job putting together the bottom end of these engines.overall ford needs to reconsider what should be a recall on their vehicles before someone gets seriously injured or killed. I am a ase certified mechanic and have never encountered such problems with a vehicle.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at 15 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle displayed "power steering fault" warning message. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The throttle is held open when the cruise control is employed but remains open when the cruise control is turned off both by using the off button and brake application. This happens at 75-80 mph on interstate highways in az and ut. The power brake booster is ineffective with no intake vacuum. This is very dangerous.

Without warning the gas pedal sticks, will not function. This happens intermittently and seems to disappear when the car warms up, but also has happened when the car is warm.very dangerous when trying to accelerate or just drive normally. This seems to be a widespread problem with both the ford escape and the mercury mariner.we have been stranded several times.this needs to be fixed by the manufacturer.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle hesitated and would not accelerate past 25 mph. In addition, the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle shut off on numerous occasions and the check engine indicator illuminated briefly without warning. The vehicle was not repairedthe manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 44,000. Updated 08/04/17*lj

There is an open space in the front grill measuring 30-1/2' long x 4' high x 2-1/2 ' 3-1/2' deep that is 15' from the road, which has no guard or shield to protect it from something like rocks flying off of the road.there is also another gap above this where debris can hit the a/c condenser that is 28' long x 1-1/2' high.dealer claimed a rock flew off the road an put a hole in the a/c condenser.the vehicle only had 3,000 miles and was a couple months old.dealer would not replace or repair condenser.claimed it was not a covered under warranty.

I was attempting to exit a parking lot and vehicle stalled and would not accelerate. I coasted back into a parking space, shut off engine and made a few more attempts with the same result each time. I shut vehicle off and waited for roughly twenty minutes and tried again. Vehicle did engage and i was able to exit parking structure however, vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. Fortunately, there was light traffic and i was able to coast back into parking lot. Problem was subsequently diagnosed as badbinding throttle cable. The cable was replaced at my expense. February 24 and 25 of 2014, vehicle stalled while in traffic, lost power and again pedal stuck and vehicle would not engage. Subsequent diagnosis is replacement of throttle body at my expense. This is extremely expensive and potentially dangerous.

2008 mariner just serviced for oil change, safety, and new air filter.not more than twelve miles, vehicle lost power on freeway.was able to coast off highway onto off ramp.vehicle would start, but failed to stay running.vehicle has gas and towed to south pointe lincoln mercury.

2008 mercury mariner with 40,000 miles on it has transmission leak caused by a faulty cooling condenser.i have heard of hundreds if not thousands of complaints such as this one in the mariner and the sister car ford escape.this repair is around 800 dollars and apparently there is no sign of a recall.i believe the part was modified in the 2009 models but this does little for me and those like me.new part can easily be defective down the road as well.not repaired yet but if driven continually can me dangerous to car not to mention persons in vehicle.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner.while driving approximately 10 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle came to a complete stop and stalled when attempting to accelerate.the vehicle restarted after several attempts and the transmission made a loud noise.there were no warning indicators illuminating on the instrument panel.in addition, there was an excessive oil leakage coming from the gasket.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on four occasions, but they could not duplicate the failure.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact was concerned of the safety risk involved.the failure mileage was 1,094 and current mileage was 7,000.

Ford reprogrammed computer, was supposed to fix the problem. Driving vehicle and power steering assist failure occurred.

2008 mercury mariner. The vehicle sporadically and intermittently brakes while driving and accelerating. This was a reported issue many years ago on these cars but ford never issued a recall even though there are a number of braking issues with this vehicle. This makes the vehicle extremely dangerous to drive if your brakes without warning lock up. I contacted the local dealer and ford corporate and they were of no help. I also filed an incident report with ford corporate #cas31601808.

Accelerator gas pedal difficult to depress when weather gets cold (below 50f).it requires a harder press to engage and have the car move.it is dangerous when crossing an intersection after a stop.for the failure to work right keeps us in the intersection as we try to move out of the way of oncoming traffic.having to press harder results in loss of control as we maneuver the car when turning at an intersection. We took the car to the dealer and they added a lubricant .it helped a little , but it was again difficult the next cold front that we had (temperatures below 50f). This condition graduated from the first winter we owned it in 2008 to this winterstarting in 2011. It appears that the pedal works better afterthe car has been operating for a while, like 20 minutes or so.

I pulled into a gas station to turn around. When i came to a complete stop and pressed the gas pedal to go, my gas pedal wouldn't budge it was like it was stuck. When i pulled on the highway it done it again but it took longer to get my gas pedal to press down. When i come to stop now i have to keep my foot on the break and the gas pedal to insure that it will go when i press the gas pedal.

My wife and i were driving home on the interstate. We had just merged to the passing lane to allow traffic merging from an on ramp to enter the interstate a vehicle next to us was doing the exact speed as we were which was 72 mph set cruise control.i had vehicles approaching from the rear and since i was in the passing lane decided to speed up and get in front of the car beside us i pushed the accelerator on our 08 mercury mariner with a 3.0l engine to the floor and the car accelerated in front of the other car, when i lifted my foot off the accelerator the car continued to accelerate.i pushed on the brake once with nothing changing the car continued to accelerate.i proceeded to pump the brake three additional times in about 1 second intervals.finally the accelerator pedal release and the car slowed down.we precededhome without further incident.this is a very dangerous condition and has resulted in serious injuries and deaths in earlier model years of ford escape, mercury mariner and mazda tribute vehicles.i have had ford vehicles my whole life and have been working on vehicles for more than thirty five years. This is not normal and is not the only time or vehicle this has happened to in this year there are many other similar people that have similar complaints on these ford and mercurysuv's on the internet ex: carcomplaints.com to name just one. The internet is filled with these dangerous complaints.when are you going to live up to your name and put the safety aspect first, when dealing with these to rich to be bothered by recalls auto manufacturers?

Abs light ,regen brakes disabledand check brake system message comes on at anytime while driving. Lose braking power, causing driver to push brake very hard to stop and brake pedal sometimes goes to the floor. When car stops sometimes it won't restart for days. It has a new battery. Coolant code comes on also and the car isn't running hot. This is a dangerous problem and needs a recall. Other than that the car runs great.

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled as the stop safely now warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted but the failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the water pump for the electrical system failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed that the vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system).the failure mileage was unavailable. Djr

The vehicle will stall when it comes to a stop, mid turn, slowing down, and sometimes accelerating. Several websites show 100's of complaints from people with the same issue. It is a may safety concern because it dies at any point while driving.

Acts like throttle body failure. No power when accelerating but rpms go up and then surges when finally throttle works . Wrench light on.

Was traveling home for lunch, turning corner and vehicle suddenly went to idle.pushed gas pedal and it went to the floorboard, but engine remained at idle.was unable to accelerate at all.was able to idle home blocking traffic as i went. Checked gas pedal and found that throttle cable had broken.the wire itself had broken.the rubber grommet and crimped end remained in-tacked. This could have been very dangerous if for instance i had been pulling onto freeway or crossing a busy intersection, or in heavy traffic.i believe this part should be inspected on all vehicles of this year and make.this type of breakage could cause an accident and possibly a fatality.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced overheating and a loss of power independently. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 14v526000 (hybrid propulsion system); however, the contact was unable to get the remedy due to no certified ford dealers in the city. The manufacturer was notified and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated while parked the lift gate failed to latch. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where it was diagnosed that the life gate assembly and weather stripping needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but offered no further assistance. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 129,100.

While my college age daughter was driving to campus onsunday 8/28/16, came to stop and when she tried to accelerate, rpm began to race erratically and car would barely accelerate. Wrench light on the dash board is now illuminated.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would hesitate to accelerate at a normal pace. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Vehicle began having shifting issues. First gear failed to catch when taking off from a stop.checked transmission fluid and found fluid was low.added fluid. Problem returned 1 to 2 weeks later.checked transmission fluid and found that fluid was low again.added fluid.i looked around under the hood and observed transmission fluid leaking at the front passenger side of engine compartment.fluid appears to be leaking from the transmission cooler.after research, it seems this problem is quite common with this model year.this issue, left unfixed, will surely cause transmission failure and/or a potentially catastrophic accident resulting in injury or death.

My 2008 mariner automatic transmission will not shift properly when cold (winter) or too hot.this also affects the idle when stopped.when vehicle tries to shift up, it will only shift if i let off the gas, then the transmission slams into the higher gear.the vehicle will hesitate when trying to use passing gear to pass other vehicles.this has led to some close calls/near misses when trying to over-take vehicles. Ford says they know there is a problem with this make/model but have not issued a recall.ford says they can fix it with my money.

Steering wheel will freeze up while driving.steel on steel horrible noise when driving. Shifter gets stuck have to put it in neutral to start it.

I was driving at a speed of 40 miles an hour, stopped at stop light, as i proceeded on the green light, the car accelerated and then jolted. Suddenly, the wrench icon appeared on the dashboard. From that point the car seemed to idle, the car would rev rpm's and would not shift automatically to the next gear. I had to start in 2ndand shift into drive. Have had the sensors replaced, tranny fluid flushed and replaced and gasket seal and pan replaced. Still not repaired.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle loss motive power and stalled. Additionally, the vehicle failed to operate while in reverse. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The local dealer riverside ford (2089 riverside dr, macon, ga 31204) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 260,000.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission slipped and caused the vehicle to suddenly decelerate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission was damaged due to defective ball bearings. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The vehicle was returned to the dealer. The manufacturer was notified. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 58,000.

Nov 1 2018 my mercury mariner premier was driving down the road when the transmission suddenly quit pulling no warning lights no other warning signs it never slipped gears just quit, i noticed after letting it sit a day i tried it again and it went not even a mile and quit moving there was a recall on my model and yr vehicle in 2015 regarding transmission issues but i was never told of this

Vehicle began leaking transmission fluid from the condenser transmission cooler/combo.leaks at top corner at passenger side from the weld of the bracket.leakage could lead to transmission failure, resulting in an accident.recall for same problem on 2008 mercury mountaineer, but the 2008 mariner is obviously defective as well.

On 6/8/2019 while driving on highway with cruise set with my disabled son in vehicle the car pulled badly to one side. I immediately braked and it took all my strength to get us off the road. Front axle has already been replaced 2 years ago. Now dealer is saying transmission blew and is out which caused front axle to fail while driving. Regular maintenance and upkeep have been done.built car and only driver usually city miles. 2008 with less than 60,000 miles. This is a huge safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately we almost flipped.

I have 2008 mercury marnier 1st gear starts off fine 2nd gear won't shift till it gets to 3750 rpm then shifts 3rd fine not in 4th it's giving me codes p0732 and p0734

My 08' mercury mariner has only 46,000 miles on it and now needs a new transmission.when i got into my car and tried to put it in reverse, the car would not move backwards.it worked in drive, but i had to push my car in order to turn it around and drive to a repair shop.i was then informed that i would need a new transmission that would cost around $3600 for my car including the part and labor.i have never been in an accident and have had no previous issues with my car involving the transmission.i believe that it is unbelievable that a car with such few miles on it should need a new transmission.when i called ford customer service they stated that they would not help me with any of these costs because there was no recall for this on my vehicle.i believe that this is an issue with this particular vehicle make and model after some research and was told by the mechanic shop that they had seen this problem many times before.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the transmission warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the intermediate band, pump and the shaftneeded to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 42,000.

Warning lights come on when driving telling driver to safely pull over to road.towed to ford dealer, was told to replace with new transmission.vehicle has 60k miles and well maintained.other mechanics were told ford would not sell them parts for repair and only ford could work on them.this is not right, there is something wrong with the cvt and ford needs to own up.a $9,200 repair should not be borne by the consumer.

My 2008 mariner had a recall for power steering default sensor. I was told by ford that the issue was recalibrated in the originial recall before i purchased the car the power steering failed again ford will not fix it they did not change the part to solve the problem originially they just reset it on the computer. It is extremly hard to turn, but i need the vehicle for work. Got repair quotes as high as $1500 to repair, money i do not have.

Truck shows"wrench" light sometimes but not always; trucks drives as if it is in the wrong gear or as if you are trying to drive with your foot on the brake at the same time.vehicle is an automatic but is driving like a stick-shift that needs to go into the next gear but struggling & unable to do so.

The transmission slipped while driving so i checked the fluid level. Fluid was low so more fluid was added. Two weeks later the fluid was low again. After checking i noticed the fluid leaking from the lines where the lines run into the fluid cooler. Contacted dealer and no recall has been issued.

Loaned the car to parents to take two 3 year olds to disney world.while on the interstate at cruising speed, car started to rapidly decelerate.total transmission failure with no warning or previous incidents.had to have the car towed to the ford dealership in paducah, ky.ford confirmed failure.incident left my son, niece, and parents stranded on the side of the road.not safe!

Speed shift forced on 2nd and 4th, the vehicle has only 77000 miles and transmission is bad, contacted the dealer about the problem and no action taken, they said the vehicle is not on a recall campaign and owner needed to do repair and if the campaign started on this problem in the future they will reimburse the repair amount, i need the vehicle on a daily basis and now i'm stock with the repairs cost of 1500 plus labor.i need to add this vehicle to the recall as shown here:report receipt date: sep 29, 2015 nhtsa campaign number: 15v606000 component(s): power train the vehicle was in motion when it happened , speed was reduced and wrench light came on the dashboard

I own a 2008 mercury mariner and i am a little concerned with its safety. On 03/15/13 i was pulling out of my drive and the steering wheel would not turn. I proceeded to put in reverse to get out of the road and backed into the drive.i turned all power down then restarted the vehicle with no problems in the steering.i went to pick up my kids and the steering wheel started to pulsate and i could hear a clunking noise while sitting at a stop sign.everytime i came to a stop it would do it.on sat. I took it to the local shop.we couldn't notice anything out of the ordinary that would cause this to happen. The only solution was the entire steering column would have to be replaced. I did some research on line to see if this was a known issue or if a recall had been issued.i was amazed at how many complaints have been placed and no recall has been issued.i set up an appt with the dealer for tues.i was working on mon. And left to run an errand for work and the next thing i know, i was driving 65 mph on the highway and with out warning i lost all power in the driving and heard a loud grinding and then clunk.i thought the transmission went out!i immediately turned on my hazards to try and get off to the side of the road cause i was slowing down extremely fast.i was almost in a 3 car accident and luckily everybody is ok, but it could of been a lot worse!i was towed to a dealer.they confirmed my fears.the transmission went out with no warning.they told me this is a known problem but there was nothing they could do cause there was no recall on this!when i asked as to why, the said not enough complaints have been made!wow, you have got to be kidding me?!?how many people have to die before these issues are addressed?very unhappy because it's going to cost $5200 to replace transmission and the entire steering column!hold ford accountable!

In february of 2009 (at 41,214 miles), my 2008 mercury mariner started jerking when i was driving and would not accelerate when i gased.i took the car to a ford dealer and they diagnosed it with transmission failure. Since the car was under warranty they performed a "transmission overhaul". Three years later, february 2012, my car started having the same problem again, transmission issues. According to the paperwork, it was noted "transmission/converter slips and transmission fluid leaked". I was reluctantly told by a supervisor at ford headquarters that some 2008 mariners did indeed have transmissions defects but my vin number was not known to be affected and because it is out of warranty they will not addressed it without me paying $4062. I have called ford headquarters and they would not provide me with any details on the issues with some of the mariners that were recalled. A car that has transmission issues twice within four years sound like there is indeed a major defect issue with the transmission parts but ford is not willing to admit it. I am sure my car (vin) should have been included. This could have been a safety hazard for my family and i. This car is a lemon and ford was well aware of it but refuse to correct the matter.ford should do the right thing and resolve the issue that they were well aware of instead of making there customers believe that it is normal for a car to have transmission failure not only once but twice within four years.i will pursue this matter until i am satisfied with the results. Updated ivoq 03/28/12

Takata recall well driving my vehicle lost acceleration.when i step on the gas the vehicle didn't accelerate as the rpm went up.i was coming to a stop light on city street.as i made the stop at stop-light as the light turn green i stepped on the has and the rpms went up but vehicle barely moved.

On the highway and street my left tire shakes but my wheel doesn't then my powertrain fault

I never received reimbursement for putting in a transmission. I was also never notified of any recalls on my transmission.

Well i was at a red light and then the light turned green i pressed the gas pedal and started to go then my rpm started to go up and my mercury mariner did not want to go no more so i coasted to the slow lane i rev my engine while i was still drive about about 1 min in went back into gear so started to drive again the rpm went back up and then i coasted to a stop on a busy highway i immediately started to get my family out to safety so i went back to my mercury mariner it was in park and still running and i noticed a yellow wrench on the dash board so i put it in drive it did not move then for five min trying to get it to move it went into gear but just enough to get off the highway on to a back street so i turned my mercury mariner off so about a half hour went by i started it up and i notice the yellow wrench was off so then it went right into gear but about in one min it did the same thing so i called a family member and then i got it towed there so i let it sit for an hour then i started it up and it went right into gear and about one min later i had no gears but i let it run and it will go in and out of gear so now it sits at my family's house.

My power steering went out while i was driving. I took this vehicle to my mechanic and he said that it was related to the power steering recall they did on this type of car. But when i put in my vin it said this car was not recalled. So i am wondering if you guys skipped over my vehicle. I would appreciate if you would look into this. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced an issue with shifting the second and fourth gears. The transmission warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the servo routing cover and servo ring were defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Prior to this failure, the steering column was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 122,834.

2008 mercury mariner throttle control powertrain light comes on, transmission cannot go into gear properly, it stops at 4000 rpm, and it struggles to go at higher speeds,

In town, while driving 30 mph, the engine shuts down, losing power steering and power brake control.

When going from reverse to drive, my 2008 mercury mariner that i bought brand new, catches and lurches forward.it has less than 45,000 miles on it.i've come close several times, to hitting cars parked next to me.it also happens at stop signs/lights.when i take my foot off the brake, it does not accelerate immediately and lurches forward when it connects.it has sprayed fluid all over my engine and leaked all over our driveway.it's under warranty so i took it to our ford dealer who said, yes, it's covered under warranty, but that's just the transmission problems.it does not cover all of the costs for the parts they need to disconnect and move out of the way to fix it.i was told it would $700 for a known problem that they need to fix free of charge.will not buy another ford product again and that is saying a whole lot because ford/mercury has been my car of choice for the last 15 years.

Driving in traffic, when vehicles transmission disengaged.depressing the accelerator only revved the engine, but no forward motion.while coasting, managed to get vehicle out of traffic & to a side street. From a stop, vehicle would accelerate, but when shifting into 3rd gear, goes into a "neutral" condition and coasts.paid ford dealer to do evaluation, and was told this was a known issue with this vehicle.was quoted $3000 for the repair.

Yesterday, my wrench light came on with my 2008 mercury mariner. I did some research this morning and found out that there was a recall on the parts. I called a local ford dealership and i was advised that due to the 5 year warranty expiring along with being above 60,000.00, i would have to come out of pocket to pay for a defected part on my truck. I am filing a complaint due to i should have been advised that there was an issue with the power train or i should have been notified to bring my truck in immediately to get this issue resolved. In which i was not notified at all. I should not be forced to pay to get my car fixed on a defected part that was sold with my car.(the power train).

Tl -the contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated the transmission cooler was leaking and caused the transmission to shift in and out of gear. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who inspected the vehicle and was told the transmission cooler needed to be replaced. Power steering completely failed while operating the car, posing a danger.transmission lurches on upshift between 1 - 2 gear while accelerating.electrical system will not charge battery and completely fails while the vehicle is in operation on the highway, posing a danger.vehicle may or may not restart immediately.

When i pulled out into traffic on my way to meijer the vehicle began to stall like it was in neutral. I was able to drive it to a stop light where i put it into park. When i took off from the traffic light everything was ok, went to meijer and turned the vehicle off.went shopping & when i started the vehicle again eveything seemed normal. Within a mile of leaving meijer the vehicle began the same symptoms "acting like it was going to stall." when i tried to increase the speed to get the vehicle home it would not go over 15 mph.it was like it was confused about what gear it was in. I put the vehicle in reverse to pull into a parking space and the vehicle did nothing. I turned it off and restarted it then put it in drive and pulled into a parking space.

Power brake booster brake system lock on highway. Power steering went out while driving nowarning . Almost had accident on snow due to bad. Transmission. Transmission went out on highway. Unable to start car ignition switch.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving 20 mph, the power train light remained illuminated and the vehicle would not accelerate. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 118,000.

I was pulling into my work parking lot when the transmission suddenly stopped engaging.i had to push the vehicle into a space.mechanic confirms i need a new transmission. I discovered that there is a known issue with the transmission of this vehicle, i called mercury/ford and had to reference the case # myself for them to find it.the customer service representative confirmed that my vehicle met the specific requirements for the customer satisfaction program (csp: 09b10) - all the way down to a specific manufacturing plant up to a specific month and date but because they stopped honoring those in 2011 i am not eligible.i am the 2nd owner of this vehicle and had no way to know this was a hazard, not was the dealer aware as ford/mercury had apparently removed the csp number from the files once it expired.this is proven by the fact that ford/mercury's own representative didn't' see it linked to my vehicle, i had to mention it specifically and then she confirmed that it did apply to my vehicle and was unassociated with it at expiration.as such, there is no way to know whether this was addressed or even an issue.my concern is had it been 20 minutes earlier that the transmission went out, my 3 1/2 year old daughter and i would have been going highway speeds on a 6 lane highway!!very dangerous!ford/mercury should have to recall this item, which is clearly a known manufacturing issue. I should not have to pay $2000 to fix something that they did incorrectly from the first and poses a great safety risk!

I had stopped by my apartment complex office to pick up a package.i started the motor and began to back out.i then put it in drive and the steering wheel wouldn't turn.i tried to drive it slowly towards my apartment to park it.i restarted the car. Once i did this, the steering was behaving normally except when idling there was a thunking vibration to where the steering wheel was moving.i had remembered i received a recall notice which was for power steering. The technician looked up the vin # and yes it was a recall item.i took it in yesterday and they are currently replacing the part.after doing some research, i have found that a lot of the vibration i have felt recently can be contributed to the issue with the power steering unit.thankfully i was near home. I have made several trips between washington and northern california.in addition, i have had a problem in the mornings especially in the colder months where i am at a stop light or stop sign and step on the gas, the motor will rev up but i don't move, then a sudden kick in of the transmission.this is scary when trying to turn into traffic.

While driving went to pull out from red light and car would not move forward.finally pumped gas pedal and managed to get car to go forward.continued to do this until would not go forward or in reverse.was able to get to empty parking lot so roll back could pick me up.had to have transmission rebuilt and was told that the transmission had been replaced before.truck only has 95,724 miles on it and i bought it used. Would like to know if any recalls had been issued on this vehicle.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to move the vehicle to the side of the road where the vehicle was restarted however, the failure recurred. The contact had to manually shift the vehicle into gear. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer advised the contact that the transmission was defective and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 81,000.

My 2008 mercury mariner was towed into my local dealer because the transmission failed without warning and no warning lights came on and the steering had an issue with the steering wheel locking up while the vehicle was in gear.when i took into the dealer they confirmed that the transmission had in fact went out and they would have to replace the steering column due to the problem with the steering was the thrust angle sensor that was embedded into the steering column.the sensor is not servicable and the whole column would have to be replaced. Both failures happen within 4 days! upon talking to the service writer, there was a recall on the transmission cooler lines that run thru the a/c condenser.they called me today and informed me that my vehicle was done and told me it was $5364.56.he informed me that the trans cooler lines would not be covered due to the transmission failure!how can a factory recall not be covered?i bought the vehicle from the same ford dealer used and the recall was issued before i purchased the car!how can they sell a car and not perform the recall service before they sold it to me and my family?i asked the service writer if that was the factory part and he stated that it could possible be.if they are not going to take care of a factory recall, how am i suppose to trust them to fix my vehicle properly?i have two small children in this vehicle every single day, twice a day!there have been so many complaints about the transmission and power steering in the 2008 models that i am surprised that they haven't put a recall on those parts yet. There are two more vehicles at the same dealer with the same problem!a 2008 mariner and 2008 escape. The last 3 cars i bought have been ford and i will never buy another ford product again.somebody needs to stop them before somebody gets hurt or killed.

Warning lights come on and loss of power, informs driver to safely pull over. To road.towed vehicle to ford dealer and was told only option was to replace with new transmission and that ford would not allow to repair the transmission, only replace with new.vehicle has 60k miles and is well maintained.other transmission mechanics have been told that ford will not sell them parts to repair the cvts and only a ford dealer is authorized and can get the replacement parts.this is not right, there is something wrong with the cvt and ford needs to own up this problem.a $9,200 repair should not be borne by the consumer.i can see over the internet that this is an on-going problem with other consumers.

I was driving the vehicle and i heard something click, vehicle started slowing down, got to side of the road, put in park, then tried to go drive, nothing ,moved it to dr2,it moved, went back to park, tried going into reverse nothing, it will move in drive but not reverse.

I was driving at a speed of 40 miles an hour, stopped at stop light, as i proceeded on the green light, the car accelerated and then jolted. Suddenly, the wrench icon appeared on the dashboard. From that point the car seemed to idle, then accelerate with force.

I have been having problems with my 2008 mercury mariner transmission.when the engine is cold the transmission slips.when i accelerate the engine revs and then slams into gear.ford refuses to repair the problem under my 5yr/60,000 mile warranty. Although my car has leaked transmission fluid and i have been told my "transmission" cooler needs to be replaced, it is considered an "air conditioning problem"since my compressor will have to be replaced with it, even though my air conditioner works fine.i know that a recall was made on the transmission cooler part in march 2008, but ford customer service told me that my vin number did not match recalled cars despite having the same problem.apparently ford has changed the part number on the trans cooler and orders it from a different company, so the part would not be listed under the warranty.could you please explain exactly why my mariner was not part of the original recall?nobody at ford customer service or the dealer service manager can explain why my car was not part of the recall or why this defective part is not considered to be an integral part of the transmission.i am shuffled back and forth between these departments.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner.the contact experienced abnormal roughness when attempting to shift gears in the vehicle.he took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the transmission cooling unit and lines needed to be replaced.the contact was informed that this was a common issue in which the manufacturer issued tsb number 10022282 (power train:automatic transmission:cooling unit and lines) in reference to the failures.the contact is in the process of having the vehicle repaired.the contact updated complaint on december 26, 2008 to include failure with the power steering idle of pulley and the transmission shifting. The failure mileage was 34,000 and current mileage was 40,000.

Transmission cooler leaking fluid causing gear slippage during acceleration. While the vehicle was in drive and the gas pedal pushed it would rev up then slam into gear or not even go into gear at all and stall. Initialresearch indicated a common factory defect for mercury mariners and ford escapes. Leaking began at 43000 miles, warranty expired at 36000 miles.advised by dealer repair cost would be $975.00. I was not able to find any recall information on this problem and was basically told sorry it costs so much.

I have been having problems with my 2008 mercury mariner transmission during the winter of 2010 and continuing. When the engine is cold the transmission slips. When i accelerate the engine revs and then slams into gear.furthermore, while sitting at a stop sign or traffic light with my foot on the brake, the engine will rev up then shift in another gearthen when taking off the vehicle slams into gear.on more than one occasion, the vehicle will cut off completely when idling at a traffic light.the revving and engine cutting off is getting worse when the engine is cold or warm.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner.while driving approximately 10 mph on normal road conditions and proceeding to a stop, the engine stalled unexpectedly.the vehicle restarted after several attempts with a loud noise coming from the transmission.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.in addition, there was excessive oil leakage from the gasket.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer on four occasions, but they were unable to duplicate the failures.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact was concerned of the safety risk involved.the failure mileage was 1,094 and current mileage was 7,000. 2008 mercury mariner.combined condenser/transmission cooling unit (believe is manufactured by visteon)leaked at 48,200 miles.same unit is used in the 2008 ford escape.happened to notice fluid on garage floor.otherwise could have easily led to failure of transmission with resulting vehicle accident.this defect is the subject of numerous complaints (see for example automobile.com) and was the subject of a nhtsa investigation # 10024826 and is describe in mercury's tsb# 08-5-7.how many more times will this widely reported defect occur before you make ford/mercury recall?obviously the combined condenser, trans fluid cooler is defective.are you waiting for deaths or serious injuries before you require the recall?

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The vehicle was parked when the contact noticed a small leak underneath the front end of the vehicle. The dealer informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 07v453000 (power train:automatic transmission:cooling unit and lines). The manufacturer was aware of the failure. No repairs were performed. The failure and current mileages were 40,000. The vin was unavailable.

2008 mercury mariner - transmission cooler severe leak at 31,000 miles.out of 36 month warranty.repair cost at ford/mercury dealer $850.was told that if not repaired, the cooler could burst and dump all fluid resulting in transmission failure, which could be a safety concern if occurring while driving.

My car has been leaking transmission fluid for about a month.i took it to my local mechanic and he stated that the a/c condenser was faulty and that it was causing the transmission fluid to leak.i contacted a service representative at my local lincoln mercury dealership in houston who stated that they have had a multitude of complaints regarding the same issue but no recall notice existed to correct this problem.this service technician stated that for some reason ford/lincoln mercury had made some change to the transmission fluid line in conjunction with the a/c condenser and that this change has caused a lot of problems.i feel that this issue needs to be addressed immediately since this is happening to so many cars with so few miles.i am quite sure that i am not the only single mother facing financial difficulties faced with this situation.your help in this matter would be most appreciated.

Drivers belt doesn't unlock

I had to apply a panic break due to a motorcycle accident in front of my vehicle. The car stopped but the hydraulic hcu/ecu for abs failed at the spot. I took the vehicle to the ford dealer and received a 1735.00 plus tax estimate to fix it.

I started having problems with my brakes. When i step on the brake the pedal would go almost all the way to the floor. I would react by pumping the brake which would make them work. I didn't drive with the brakes doing that very long because i took the car to a repair shop and i spent 450 dollars on brake work with being told that the problem was with the abs system and the disabled the abs system so that it didn't interfere with stopping the car. There have been recalls on other ford products because of abs problems. The problem occurred while i was driving every time i wanted to stop and when i stopped for a light i felt like the brakes might quit working and the car could enter the intersection.

I lost all braking ability and the pedal goes to the floor. This is a mercury mariner hybrid and ford escape hybrid issue, it doesn't affect the non-hybrid models. Ford knows about this as there are hundreds and hundreds of complaints online about it and it's a $5000+ fix. I have not been able to drive my mariner hybrid since 2018.

Abs and regen brakes disabled warning lights went on when starting car from parked position; have been advised by ford dealer and on line reports by car owners that brakes can fail and we should not drive the car. Replacing regen brake system more than 6k ; this is a safety problem requiring manufacturer recall;

Power brake booster brake system lock on highway. Power steering went out while driving nowarning . Almost had accident on snow due to bad. Transmission. Transmission went out on highway. Unable to start car ignition switch.

While driving my car stalls without warning then it jerks real hard and takes off so i have to ride the brakesafter coming to a stop before i can press the gas peddle it takes off so i ride the brakes. While driving again it picks up speed on its own very scare please help.

While driving on the highway check brake system message and brake light comes on vehicle braking becomes very hard to stop. After stopping vehicle and turning vehicle off and on several times brake warning light goes off and vehicle drives normally for a few days than problem comes back. While at a light one day brake warning light came on drove for approximately 1 mile and no brakes at all was able to turn in to a parking lot and apply the emergency brakes to stop. Left vehicle over night the next day turned vehicle on and off several time and brakes began to work. Made appointment with dealer who advised it will be three weeks to get it in. After three weeks to take vehicle in a week later was advised abs hcu was probably bad. Costfor new abs hcu module $4700 for the part alone. Picked up vehicle without having it fixed and drove locally for a few weeks with brake in "manual mode" untili tried to stop for a yellow light in the rain and slid through the intersection since only the back brakes works in manual mode. Later ordered a refurbished abs hcu module cost $1400.00, the ford dealer is the only one who can install unit since the module has to be programed to the vehicle software. Took two weeks to get an appointment dealer had vehicle for another six weeks trying to program and bleed brake system. Dealer finally installed the other abs hcu unit that was sent to me when i advised the refurbishing company that the dealer was having issues with the first one. Dealer advised that they installed the replacement abs hcu and replaced the brake lines, and the brakes started to work labor cost $1900.00. I'm glad to be here to report this safety issue the next person would probably not be so lucky.

The anti-lock brick module has stopped working. The part alone is close to $1,200 to purchase. Upon investigating this problem we find that it is very common and tens of thousands of ford built cars of this vintage have the same issue. Why hasn't there been a recall for such a common and critical issue?

Took vehicle to ford dealer to have car inspected was told rotors had to be replaced due to wear brake pads were wearing un evenly car has been serviced by dealer when ever it needed inspection or oil changes uneven wear wasn't seen until warranty had run out the car had lest then 2000 miles on since last inspection. This has happened on other ford vehicles in past pins that brake pads ride on have always been the cause. They are corroded.

Hcu (hydraulic control unit) failure meaning my hybrid vehicle can't brake whether in hybrid mode or normal mode and it's over a $5000 repair. My mariner has been sitting in my driveway for close to 2 years now, unused, because of this known issue.

My vehicle had difficulty in stopping, needing the pedal to be pressed almost to the floor before it stopped.i changed the master cylinder in hopes that it would fix the problem but it didn't.the brakes periodically would work properly, but once again the problem would return.i stopped by the ford dealership and they advised me that the 2008 mercury milan was recalled for this defect, however, my 2008 mariner wasn't on the list to be recalled.the dealership added that the parts for the repair was on back order. I still drive the car but cautious whenever i need to brake.

Re:nhtsa identifier 19v904ford internal reference number:19s54although mercury mariners are not listed in this recall, my 2008 mercury mariner has the exact same issue, sticking abs valve.ford will not recognize my vehicle as part of this recall.i have had 2 different certified mechanics work on the vehicle and both mechanics have installed new brake boosters, brake pads and master cylinders. The results from their work did not resolve the issue of soft brakes.the problem began when i made an abrupt stop while driving on a city street. The brakes were never fully functional after that.i believe the situation with my mariner is identical to the issue identified in the nhtsa identifier 19v904. I also believe that mercury mariners should be included in this ford recall.

Brake system failure, abs failure. Half or more of braking power diminishes. While going down the road, vehicles tries stopping itself, creating a front end wobble. When having to use the brakes, tires skid. Cannot stop vehicle quickly, very dangerous. Constant brake smell. Brake pads wear or disintegrate within 3 months. Problem will not go away was intermittent at first, but now constant. Ford dealership reports part is $6200 dollars. The vehicle is not worth that.

Driving, coming to a stoplight, the brakes suddenly failed, the brake pedal went all the way to the floor.pumping i was able to get just enough brakes to stop before colliding with the car in front of us. The service abs and emergency brake service warning lights came on after the near collision.i took the car to a ford dealership and was told the hcu unit had failed.this is a $4,000 part that we had already replaced at 76,000 miles,. The new part failed again without warning only 22,000 miles later.

This had been a great car for me until today.i learned the hydraulic control unit is bad and will require nearly $5000 to replace.it is not safe to drive.it had 105000 miles. It is not worth much more than $5k.i have no choice but to try and trade the car in. I laterally just gave it to my daughter for college on saturday.she has always loved my car.

My 17 year old daughter came home saying a message was on her dash about her brakes in our 2008 mercury mariner hybrid.i was about to leave so i decided to take her car, as soon as i pulled out of the driveway and started down the hill we live on, i noticed the brakes didn't feel right, i pressed all the way down to get the car to slowly come to a stop, as i did this, i noticed a warning sound and the message on the screen said check brake system, regen brakes disabled.i immediately turned the car around and went home, when trying to stop in our driveway, again the brakes were not working properly causing us to almost hit the other car in the driveway.this is extremely concerning as this car is our 17 year old daughters car.once you get the car to stop, if the car is powered off for a few minutes and back on the brakes work again.this is a safety issue and seems to be a common problem.this happened yesterday 5/16/2020, the car has 120k miles.

The abs hydrolic control unit has malfunctioned resulting in faulty brakes and dangerous driving conditions. I have to put the brake pedal to the ground to get any type of braking to be done. This takes extra seconds that could result in an accident if i had to suddenly brake. This seems to be a common problem and many mariners and escapes have identical problems. I would like my vin to be added to the recall list to have this problem fixed.

Abs light along with service brake light came on with no warning resulting in near complete brake loss and nearly striking a person crossing the street.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at 25 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the brake pedal required excessive pressure to slow the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brakes master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact also stated that the brake pads were also replaced however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that the failure occurred only when driving while it was raining. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Took to dealer for brake problems. Poorand unpredictable stopping, after over $ 500 repairs to brakes. Worked ok for a week now worst than they were before repairs.brakes cannot be trusted.

Takata recall my abs light and brake light comes on and if i drive it with these lights on i smell my break pads burning. I took it to ford and they said it was the internal failure of the hydraulic control unit and it would cost me upwards of $5,885.00 to replace and repair the problem. I have searching the internet and there are several other people with the same problem with this vehicle and ford escapes. (which is basically the same vehicle. If there are this many complaints maybe its worth looking into on dots part. It is a safety issue for sure considering my brakes go to the floor when the abs and brake lights are on. I can turn my suv off and remove the key and then put the key back in and start it again until the lights go off and i don't have an issue. But when i first get in the vehicle and start it the lights do in fact come on. Please help all consumers with this dangerous situation that should have been recalled already on ford/mercury's hydraulic control unit.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving approximately 35 mph, the brakes were applied but failed to stop the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the brake pads, master cylinder, and brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 60,000.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated on several occasions while the vehicle was idle or being driven, the steering wheel vibrated abnormally. The contact also stated that when the steering wheel was turned there was there was a hesitation in response to the wheels responding. Additionally, the contact stated that there was a clicking sound in the steering. The contact stated that the clicking sound emitted from the intermittent shaft. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who replaced the brake pads, brake rotors, and provided an alignment. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted or informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 103,184.

Brakes are intermittent, abs light will come on along with red brake light and hybrid regen brakes disabled. Sometimes car stops sometimes car does not stop. I have looked into it and several people have reported failure. I do not understand how such a well documented oe failure can go for so long without rectification.

Brakes suddenly stopped working while my 17 year old daughter was driving.a message appears 'regen brakes disabled, check brake system'.went to dealership and was told hcu and master cylinder needs to be replaced $4000 repair.not acceptable seeing so many complaints of this issue that ford has not yet issued a recall.

The brake light came on and indicated "regen brakes disabled".i braked when i came to a traffic light and ended up skidding into the middle of an intersection.the local ford dealer advised to replace the hcu for $5000.the unit has 55k miles on it.this has continued to happen for the last 2 years, mostly in the summer when it is hot and humid, although just today it happened again (it was 35 degrees all day).i couldn't stop in time and ran off the road onto the median.some online research has indicated the problem is not with the hcu, but the sensors (replacing the hcu reestablishes a good connection with the sensors)., but the ford dealer knows nothing about this fix because it's much cheaper.so, i have no choice but to continue to drive this train wreck and hope i'm not in a serious accident.

Traveling at 35 mph and up , sometimes the vehicle would shutter and shake. Found a broken ring on the axle caused this problem. Took a few visits to the dealer to find it. It is very scary when it happens and you must pull over and shut the car off. Sometimes it would be weeks before it happened . Also, happened on the highway. This should have been covered under a safety recall. I had to pay for this repair.

2008 mercury mariner. Consumer states safety issues with rotors *tgwthe consumer took the vehicle to a mechanic to have the vehicle inspected. The mechanic stated the rotors for the front disc brakes were worn, pitted and rusted and needed to be replaced. It was verified when it was discovered that the brake pedal pulsed atspeeds of 30 or 40 mph.the consumer then took the vehicle to the dealer who then asserted that the mechanic was wrong and that all vehicles have rust on their rotors. The consumer then took the vehicle back to his mechanic because of a continued pedal pulsation beginning at 30- 40 mph. The consumer then went to another dealership, who did indeed agree that the front rotors were rusted, pitted and unsafe.also the rear drums were cracked andneeded to be replaced.the abs was inoperative due to the tone rings had fallen off.

In december of 2009 i reported an incidence of unintended acceleration.since then we have not been using the cruise control much.yesterday i activated the cruise control at 60mph on a long flat area. There is a mountain pass and curves between that area and our home. I hit the brake and slowed down around the 35 mph curves. On the down grade i took it out of over drive and dropped down a gear. The road flattens out again at the bottom but i did not reengage the cruise control. At one point at an intersection i had to brake to ten miles per hour or less for an oncoming car. Just after making a left turn onto our street the car began rapidly accelerating on its own. I didn'thave my foot on the gas pedal. Since the road is straight i allowed it to accelerate to see what it would do. It went from 10 mph to 50 mph before my wife asked, "why are you accelerating? i replied, " i'm not. It's doing it on its own." it disengaged as soon as i hit the brake pedal. There is no way this was caused by a floor mat. I was only going about 10mph when it began accelerating and i took my foot off the pedal. The last time i complained to ford the car was under warranty and had less than 36,000 miles on it. Ford said they couldn't do anything about it since it was intermittent and they hadn't experienced the problem. Another safety problem we have had with the car: when it had 26,000 miles on it the front end began shaking when braking. Ford said the front rotors were warped and resurfaced themunder the warranty. They refused to change the pads or install new rotors. About 15,000 miles later it began vibrating again at speeds above 50mph. Now the vibration is severe. We are looking at a complete brake overhaul. We have never detected the brakes being overheated while the car was being driven. Another problem we had was that the trans cooler went out at 26,000 miles. Ford installed a new one under warranty but refused to drain and replace the transmission fluid.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated while driving 60 mph and depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal required additional brake travel time to stop the vehicle. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with needing the brake master cylinder to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 19v904000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Car had 2,500 miles when both brake lights illuminated and only had manual braking.car was towed to dealership where they needed to consult with ford specialists to determine the problem because they weren't sure if it was the master cylinder or the brakes.the replacement part had to pulled from the assembly line because the parts were not due until 8-15-2007.replaced master cylinder on 7-26-2007.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the power steering sensor illuminated intermittently and the power steering failed several times. The contact experienced extreme difficulty maneuvering the steering wheel every time the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician verified the failure but indicated that the remedy was not available. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was repaired under recall nhtsa campaign id number: 14v284000 (steering). However, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the steering column assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was not available.

Also, the "power steering faulty" message was displayed. The vehicle was taken to quirk ford (540 southern artery, quincy, ma) where the power steering control module was reprogrammed per nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering); however, the failure continued. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000. The vin was invalid.

I parked my car, and upon returning i started it, and received a waring stating that there was a "power steering assist fault". From that moment, i have no power steering and the vehicle is extremely hard to steer. When i took it to my mechanic, he plugged in his code reader and cleared the code, which brought the power steering back on line. Some time later, the power steering went out again, to which my mechanic cleared the warning code, and the power steering was brought back online. The steering assist continues to fail, and it got too expensive to have my mechanic clear the code continually. I've addressed this issue with ford, and they state that the power steering recall 14v284000 service has already been completed on my car, but obviously it didn't prevent the loss of the steering: electric power assist system.ford states that i am now responsible for the cost to repair the loss of a system that they are aware of as a very dangerous problem with their product. Why would i be responsible for the cost of fixing something that their repair was insufficient at preventing? are they not responsible for providing an actual solution to the recall item, not just a temporary fix to satisfy the recall requirement?my milage and dates of occurrence are estimations, as i do not remember the actual date of the initial failure.

Started vehicle. Dash message read "power steering assist failure."no power steering.after doing online research (it didn't take long to find similar to identical complaints), i found that there was a steering related recall pertaining to the vehicle (7/2014).took vehicle to lincoln-mercury dealership from which it was purchased new.the dealer service department informed me that the recall work had been done the last time we had our oil changed over the summer, and that the recall had been "closed out".... We weren't informed of either the fact that there was a recall in the first place, or that they had "taken care" of it.the recall work was apparently to "reprogram" some "module" to simply make the driver aware that something has gone awry with the power steering (no kidding).the ultimate diagnosis:the vehicle needs a new steering column at a cost of nearly $1,300.00 as the "torque sensor" has failed.it is apparent to me and many others that the recall had nothing to do with repair of the failed component, which is not such an "unlikely event"....also, the failure of the component is not a matter of improper maintenance as could be the case with typical power steering systems...it just fails.the failure of the component(s) is however a pretty serious safety issue i would think.i will make the dealer service department aware of this, and continue to find out why these repairs should not be the responsibility of the manufacturer. By the way, mileage was 87,810 when this happened.

Power steering went out at 106000 miles.cost to repair was $900.

We had the steering recall performed. Not sure what they did but it seems worse. Since the recall the steering feels loose when traveling at high speeds and the vehicle can dart.

While driving down the baja peninsula my steering wheel began to vibrate and make strange noises. Shortly after i lost all power steering making navigation over the mountain roads extremely dangerous and hard. Once home in the us i contacted a local ford/mercury dealer and was told the recall had already been satisfied. But now i'm seeing hundreds of complaints about steering issues occurring within the same time frame as my own.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While the contact's wife was driving, the steering wheel became extremely difficult to maneuver and the power steering assist fault indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to ourisman lincoln of frederick (6001 urbana pike #200, frederick, md 21704 (301) 662-7600) where it was diagnosed that the steering system needed to be replaced. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was no longer under recall. No further assistance was provided. The vehcile was not repaired. The failure mileage was 154,271.

Came to a stop, began to turn left, steering wheel jerked to one side then power steering gave out mid turn, on a busy street, crossing over two lanes of traffic. It is nearly impossible to steer the vehicle when this happens. This has actually happened a handful of times at this point. Ford dealer can't figure it out, so i'm stuck with an unsafe vehicle to drive. How has this vehicle not been recalled!?it's not like it's small issue like radio problems, this is a safety issue!!!!! if you park the vehicle and shut it off, then restart it, the sterling will then work again (until next time it gives out) it's almost like restarting the car is rebooting the system. Either way, very scary when you're driving and you have no warning that your power steering is going to fail.

Our mercury mariner steering wheel is vibrating uncontrollably. It is doing this both at idle and when driving. If you turn the wheel it will stop but then you are also turning the vehicle so that is not an option when driving.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at 50 mph, the electric power steering failed, and the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The contact was able to drive the vehicle to his residence. The contact had his friend who is an independent mechanic diagnose the vehicle. The mechanic determined that the power steering sensor failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the vin. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.

I have checked it online and saw that there was a recall on my car series. But i never got and update, or mail from ford, mercury for the recall. Now my car has the issue and cant even move it. It is ford responsibility to make the car right. This is not caused because of driver. I call ford services and they dont even want to fix it for the car which has a recall

The vehicle lost power steering while driving.the steering has not returned after several attempts to drive the vehicle.

Received ford recall #14s05 in july of 2014, for a "loss of electric power steering assist" in affected vehicles. The recall notice indicated that ford would perform a "software update", or, "replace affected components for free of charge". Took my vehicle to a nearby ford dealership, had the recall "software update" performed on my vehicle. After the "software update" was performed on my vehicle, my vehicle suffered a complete loss of power steering assist, requiring the replacement of the entire steering column. This was the exact reason ford had issued recall #14s05 in the first place and the exact components ford said it would replace as part of recall #14s05. Ford has since refused to pay for, or, reimburse me for the cost of this repair under the premise that the "software update fixed the power steering assist defect". As a result, ford continues to perpetuate increased risk of accidents and subsequent injury to owners of the affected vehicles.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced per nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The remedy failed to repair the vehicle. While driving approximately 60 mph, a loud noise was heard and the power steering service warning indicator illuminated and the power steering wheel seized. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where there was a recall code indicated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed with a sensor failure. The contact wasinformed that the issue was not due to a recall. The vehicle was towed to another independent mechanic where a recall code was still detected. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at an unknown speed, the steering wheel was extremely difficult to maneuver. Driving about 40 mph when steering assist fault indicator came on and loss power steering.recall on vehicle was completed in 2014 for possible problem of losing power steering. Now have no power steering. Took it to garage and mechanic said the electronic steering module was faulty.thought the recall in 2014 was to prevent this from happening.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving approximately 35 mph and making a right turn, the power steering failed. The contact stated that the vehicle was difficult to maneuver. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. Pinkham lincoln automotive (located at 1505 n dixie hwy, elizabethtown, ky 42701, (270) 737-2460) was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

My vehicle's power steering failed due to a defunct torque sensor which should have been replaced by the previous recall. The power steering became defective while i was driving on a highway, and completely failed a short time thereafter while stopped. After i was notified of the previous recall in 2014, i took my vehicle to a ford service shop; however, ford apparently did not fix the underlying issue in my vehicle (malfunctioned torque sensor). There was no warning or notice given that this issue may arise in the future after having the alleged recall "fixed". I also was given no notice at any time that the power steering was going to fail completely.

While driving the power steering stopped working. This problem was supposed to be addressed by a previous recall in 2004. I purchased the vehicle in august 2017 and exactly one year later the power steering stopped working. I took it to the dealership with a copy of the recall notice and was informed that the solution to the problem had been addressed with the previous owner of the vehicle. In researching the problem, i have encountered information that the reoccurrence of this issue is a problem after the so-called fix. The power steering stopped working while driving and turning on the highway. In addition, the carfax vehicle history report doesn't show the repair ever being done.

While driving the power steering of the vehicle went out without warning, the vehicle was recalled for a possible problem with the power steering and the said nothing was wrong with the vehicle, now it has gone out and i am stuck paying almost $2000.00 in repairs.

I was driving on the interstate in traffic and had a complete loss of power steering, making it nearly impossible to pull over or get off the highway.

Car working normal, shut it off, turned it on the next day and had no power steering assistance. When reviewing online other 2008 mercury mariners were recalled for the same issue. However, ford told me my car was not included in the recall. Yet the repair was the exact same repair that was needed to fix the recalled cars.

I drove my 2008 mercury mariner to the gas station last week and the warning light came on reading power steering sensor assist fault. I contacted the local ford dealership, i brought my car in to the service department. They diagnosed the steering sensor needed replaced, so they ordered the part and installed the new sensor. The dealership notified me that the sensor was not the issue, and that i actually need to replace the steering column and housing unit. I was originally quoted for the sensor & labor $779, which they were not going to charge me for since it was an incorrect diagnosis. But, to replace the steering column & housing i was now quoted $2100.00. I had noticed on web site searches that there is recalls for steering issues on 2008 mercury mariner. I entered my vin number and nothing is coming up, i also questioned the dealership about reading the numerous complaints and also asked about if there were any recalls for my vehicle, i was told there were none. I justcan't fathom my issue has gone from $779 to $2100 on a sensor issue to a replacement of the steering column and housing. I'm hoping for some results by submitting this complaint. Thank you

The steering gear lost electric power and won't start.

I have fords that are 70 years old and the power steering works great now i buy my wife a ford its only a few years old and the power steering quits almost dies and then wants my pay checks for 7 weeks 1400 dollars and now all of these ppl on here have the same problem and ford won't stand behind it and at least make it a recall ok they want to wait till ppl start die to understand that the engineers they had design this did not know their a** from a hole in the ground.

Steering wheel shakes when parked or driving. Steering wheel assist fault light comes on.

The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

Lost power steering as i was driving through a parking lot. Saw the message on the dash "power steering assist fault". Called ford dealership to get my vehicle looked at but they are booked 2 weeks full. Asked about recall 14s05 but they told me my vin was not part of the recall. I contacted ford and they gave me the same information. Can not drive vehicle as it is too dangerous in winter. This issue seems to be very common with the 2008 mercury mariner and especially ones that were not part of the recall for the same exact issue.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While operating the vehicle, the electronic power steering malfunctioned and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer (bowker ford in ponca city, ok) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but did not assist. The failure mileage was 240,000.

Power steering assist module stoped working for no reason while i was driving. Many other complaints with this problem my mechanic is telling me it is a 50% chance i may have to replace the entire steering column.

Safety recall 14s05/nhtsa recall 14v-284 was performed on this vehicle in august 2014. The service performed was a software modification that was described as being able to prevent the vehicle from going into manual steering mode without warning and as a result of a torque senor defect.in january 2016 the power steering assist stopped functioning while driving and moved into manual steering mode. This was in a low traffic urban area at low speed.we were able to get the vehicle off road without incident.the vehicle remains in manual steering mode and there is a "power steering assist fault" warning display on the dash.the ford recall letter indicates the dealer repair would remove this possibility where the vehicle could revert to manual steering mode due to a detected fault.the letter also indicates a chime and wrench light would ensue if a defect/fault were detected to "increase driver awareness".it is not our experience that we had this warning provided.there is no wrench light illuminated and the vehicle was not prevented from moving into manual steering mode. In short, i do not believe that the service procedure in this recall where only software code was modified was sufficient to remove the potential hazards of any defects that may by inherent in the power steering assist system of this vehicle.i contacted the dealership where the software revision was conducted and was told that without a "check engine light" indication, they would probably not be able to read and determine the fault.i indicated the nature of my understanding of the recall on this vehicle to see if a further needed repair of the torque sensor would be allowed under the recall due to these circumstances. I was told the recall was closed.i do not believe the initial repair was sufficient.

While driving the steering wheel started shaking. Within 48hrs i lost power steering and was unable to drive safely. I had to have the car towed to my home because it went out while picking up my kids from school. A mechanic gave me the diagnosis of error b2278. The same code identified for recall 14s05 in replacing the torque sensor. Ford did not resolve the issue properly when my vehicle was serviced for the recall. A software update was done instead of replacing the faulty sensor, which ford identified as the source of failed steering assistance. I was without a car for 2 weeks because it was not safe to drive. Ford did not honor the recall to replace the sensor.

Driving down road, at 65 mph, steering wheel starts to vibrate, and is making a chattering noise at bottom of steering column. Stop vehicle, steering wheel vibrates more with brake on. Next time i start vehicle, there is no power steering. I shut off vehicle, restart, then the power steering works. This has happened several times. I talked to service manger at 2 dealers, they do not know what the problem is. One dealer was going to e-mail ford to find out, waiting for a reply from him. I look up, mercury mariner steering problems on internet, there are thousand of people have same problem. It is apparently an electronic steering sensor, in the steering column that is bad. Went to ford dealer, talked to parts person, and service manager, they have never heard of this problem. They find a picture of the steering column, but can't find a part number, so can't tell me a cost of the part. Frustrated. I need to get this fixed before some one gets hurt.

Takata recall.sometimes when i make left turns, i hear a beep and lose power steering. The vehivle was moving

I had taken my vehicle in for the recall #14s05, in 2014; it was fixed in a matter of 2 hours. After that my steering was very flexible and very loose, which i thought i would have to get used to. Then within a few months the steering column started to tremble while in park or with applied brake. I thought it was front end issues, which i took to the shop and found nothing wrong. A month went by and while driving on the highway on march 9, 2015 going about 60mph with my 5 year old great niece in the car, the power steering went out. It took all my strength to keep it from crashing. I noticed on the dashboard that it read ?power steering assist fault?. Immediately i thought to myself; i took this in for the recall, why is this happening. I made it to a safe place and called the ford dealer and explain everything to them. They said that they wouldn't know if it is related or not until they run a diagnostic. Later that next day they call and said that it is not related to the software that was replace, which i disagree, and they quoted me a large amount to fix. I told them that it is ford responsibility because i feel that it was related to the recall. I could had died and my great niece as well. This is not acceptable. I had to pay for tow and diagnostic and the problem still not fix and i still feel strongly that its ford responsibility. When a recall is performed and the problem still happened then it's no accuse or denying that it is indeed a recall issue. This has cause mental stress, loss of wages, mental stress due to avoiding an accident and keeping me and my great niece out of danger. This issue needs to be address and fixed, before something like this happens to someone else. Whether or not the recall was done it did not perform like it should have and it caused a danger.this needs to be addressed immediately.thank you.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving approximately 5 mph making a left turn, the steering wheel became difficult to turn without warning. The failure recurred on two other occasions. The contact also stated that while driving forward, the vehicle would pull to the right. The vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering); however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or diagnosed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.

The failure mileage was 97,410 and the current mileage was 97,443.

Jerking back and forth of steering wheel would occur occasionally until power steering assistance failed. Power steering assist fault code would come on every so often . I was driving down the highway while the code came on and didn't notice any difference in steering difficulty until i parked the car and shut the engine off then back on. Power steering is completely failing now resulting in increased force to get the car to turn.

I was driving down freeway when steering failed applied brakes to slowdown and steering would hardly work. Was able to get it to ford garage steering column had to be replaced as a sensor failed and a clock spring broke.

Steering wheel vibrates back and forth on its own, without any driver input, while vehicle is stopped and running

Power steering seizes and reverts to manual movement. Car has to be turned off and turned back on for normal steering to return. Steering wheel will jerk and jump when stopped.

Sensor in stering wheel is bad, also jerks when it shifts

Vehicle lost all power steering while underway (extremely dangerous when vehicle lost power steering, lucky to have avoided a collision). Vehicle was "serviced" under previous power steering recall. Vehicle steering wheel would intermittently rock back & forth before final failure. Ford is claiming no responsibility for fix, after already issuing a recall for steering related defect. This is a dangerous defect in controlling/steering these vehicle's.

I too, have experienced a loss of power steering and an increasingly severe "shaking" of my steering wheel when it is working. I took the car to the mechanic and was told that i need to replace the entire steering column due to a failure of the electronic power steering. The garage told me after calling ford dealer that it would cost me $1500 - $2000 with labor. When i turn the vehicle on, there will be no power steering and i have to turn the ignition off and back on several times before the power steering will work. Sometimes the steering wheel will shake violently and make a loud vibrating noise while standing still. This also occurs while driving at normal speeds. Having read the vast amount of complaints addressing this steering problem and the fact that the nhtsa is aware of the defective electronic power steering problem. I am surprised that there has not beena recall for this very unsafe problem. I cannot afford to repair, what should be fords responsibility!!!!!!!yikes......

Over the past 2 years, the 2008 mercury mariner my wife drives, the power steering has ceased to work.fortunately she was able to shut the car of, restart it and the power steering would resume.brought vehicle in for recall still having power steering back in aug, 2014, and dealer checked for codes and only reprogrammed module. Approx in the last 2 weeks of sept 2014, power steering once again quit and has not returned.brought into ford due to an issue involving a matter which cause a recall and was told the torque sensor was bad. Service contacted ford and was told they will not cover the repair due to the fact that the vehicle has already had a recall service performed, satisfying the obligation of the recall.due to the issue being part of the original recall notice, ford should due the honorable thing and cover the repair and parts needed.my wife can no longer drive the vehicle and it is a major safety issue having someone else (i.e. Myself) drive the vehicle.

Steering went out at 95,000 miles on my daughter's 2008 mercury mariner.we were lucky that she or no one else was killed or seriously injured because the weather was bad and the roads were icy.she states that she could barely turn the wheel and it took all she had to turn after it went out, and, it seemed to get even worse when she stopped, shut it off and turned it back on.i assume it is a recurring issue from the recall that was performed on the vehicle back in 2015.i just called ford customer service and they state that because the recall was already performed, they can confirm that it will not be covered.they recommended that i take it to a ford dealer for diagnosis and repair for a fee.the bigger issue than cost in my opinion is the lingering safety hazard that still exists.the component failed about a month shy of 2 years after the update, however, as far as ford is concerned, the issue has been resolved.someone could crash and die because of this known issue.is ford not concerned?how can they sleep at night knowing hundreds of thousands of people (like my daughter) are at risk.in my opinion, it is completely unreasonable to not conduct another recall for the safety of their customers.someone with money needs to get after them with a lawsuit.

I was driving on the highway yesterday evening when my mariner displayed the message 'power assist system fault'. I did not notice an immediate issue with the steering but carefully limped it home. This morning i called my mechanic about it.he had formerly worked for ford and was familiar with the issue.we set up an appointment.however as i backed the vehicle out of the garage, the message disappeared and the power steering failed completely, making the vehicle unsafe to drive.

Performed recall service at bozeman ford in bozeman montana for recall 14s05 on october 13,2014. On april 23, 2018 my power steering went out and was attributed to a faulty torque sensor, which should have been replaced during the initial recall service. Was informed by bison ford in great falls montana that since initial recall service was performed, this service would not be covered by the recall and i would have to pay the $625.32 in parts and labor to replace the sensor again. This is a safety issue that should have been resolved by the initial recall service and i should not be required to pay for follow up service related to the recall.

The vehicle was pulled over and towed to the contact's residence. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer who stated that there was no recall. Prior to the failure, the vehicle was repaired according to a power steering recall in 2014.the nhtsa campaign number was not provided. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 164,642.

I received a message on my dash display "power steering assist fault" while driving. After parking, shutting off my vehicle, and then restarting my vehicle, my power steering was locked. The brighton ford dealership assessed my vehicle and told me i have an issue with my torque sensor which causes the power steering to lock up. I looked up torque sensors for my vehicle, and discovered that torque sensors in many vehicles matching the same description as mine were recalled for the same exact malfunction. My car was manufactured during the dates listed on the recall as well. It is recall number 14s05. This recall is not showing up for my vehicle. Why could this be?

Vehicle steering began to grind and make noises during turning of steering wheel. Very loose steering as if steering is coming apart. Have reported to ford, but stated there is no recall on this, even though numerous complaints on here and over 550 on edmunds.com. Vehicle seems unsafe and only 68000 miles.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. Upon starting the vehicle, the steering wheel was difficult to turn. Also, the interior fender was rusted. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Power steering was lost making it difficult to steer. While driving around a turn the power steering dropped out completely. Was told there was a recall on this vehicle but dealer said my specific car was not covered. Find thathard to believe since it is exact problem described.

The steering wheel made a pop/cracking noise on start-up at first. The wheel would oscillate in place and only stop if i put pressure on it to turn it off center. The power steering would intermittently go out on start-up. I would turn the car off and on again until it returned. This was fine for a week or so, but then the power steering went out while driving. When the power steering fails, the car is nearly impossible to turn.

I called ford after the "power steering assist fault" light came on and the vehicle could not turn. It was parallel parked along side a street, and i was only able to put the car in drive and move forward and backward. The wheel was making loud, grunting noises and shaking profusely. I looked up and found that there had been a recall for mercury mariner 2008 models for the same issue. I called and spoke with oliver hogg, a service consultant at lindsay ford of wheaton and discussed that there was a recall and that it seemed to be exactly what was happening with my vehicle. He told me it would be covered by ford if that was the issue, if not, i would have to cover the cost and diagnostic. The diagnostic report stated, "c/s steering is making noise and display reads steering assist fault--towed in. Can for codes (b2278 steering shaft torque sensor fault (found steering hard and column motor chatter). Replace steering column assembly (part #cl8z3c529d) (found steering hard and column motor chatter).lindsay ford of wheaton quoted me $2,385.18 for the listed issues. He said my vin number wasn't covered under the recall, and there was not an extended warranty on the parts, so i was out of luck. I find this completely unacceptable, after learning of all of the other mercury mariners of 2008 to have the same issue, and even with the recall. This is unsafe, and a product of ford manufacturing, and should be resolved within ford motor company.

While driving on a major highway at 75 mph the power steering for my 2008 mercury mariner failed.it became very difficult to control the vehicle, posing a serious safety risk. Upon inspection, it is believed that the torque sensor has failed. Unfortunately, while a system is clearly not functioning, there are no trouble codes displayed at this time. I see that there is an exsisting safety recall in place for the same year, make, and model for this specific problem however it does not include the vin for my vehicle.

Going down highway and the steering went out which could of resulted in a very bad accident on a slippery road condition , causing a accident because of uncontrolled steering or hard to steer vehicle. Doing 55 mph.i know that there has been many problems with steering in this particular vehicle, when i have tried to get the module or whole lower steering from a used auto parts business they claim that they can not keep them that there has been a great demand for that particular part. Still driving with out safe steering, have no other choice in the matter unless i pay over 1000.00 to the ford dealer ship to have it replaced and i can not afford to do that on disability and need my car to get back and fourth to doctors. Are there any recalls on this vehicle concerning steering?

I believe my vehicle should be part of the nhtsa recall campaign number: 14v284000i was driving the vehicle when i lost all steering it was scary and very dangerous. Please make this a wider recall so i can have my car fixed. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While attempting to turn right onto a major highway, the power steering suddenly malfunctioned and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the steering column and housing were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was previously repaired in august of 2014 per nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000.

My car was completely function normal when it comes to the steering and i jumped in my car the following day to head to work and i had no power steering! for no reason my power steering assist quite working, i have never had a service light on in my car sense i have owned it but a couple months ago my air bag light came on and i can't figure out why it came on but now i have no power steering. I seen a recall for the power steering assist but when i called the ford dealership they said they aren't able to see the recall.

Steering wheel shakes and grinding sounds coming from steering column this happens when the vehicle is in motion or stationary. Local ford dealership diagnosed as a faulty torque sensor which would result in a loss of power steering. Had a recall on the vehicle approximately a year ago because of loss of power steering due to the torque sensor. At the time of recall my torque sensor was not failing so the dealership only did a computer software update. Clearly the update did nothing to correct the issue with the torque sensor associated with the recall, however now ford will not correct the issue with the vehicle. I have not personally lost my power steering yet in a situation that could have caused injury however there are a whole slew of complaints from people reporting the exact same problem. A sudden loss of steering is a big deal and very dangerous, it is something ford should be required to correct.

My car keeps saying "power steering assist fault". My wheel gave out several of times while driving on the road and now i'm terrified 😬. It did it again tonight while i just took a spin around the corner. I only had my vehicle for 2 years! please tell me that it's a recall on this vehicle

Power steering intermittently goes out like thousandsof others escapes and mariners. This happens randomly.

My wife was driving the mariner, she stopped at the post office to ship a package.when shetried pulling away from the curve she couldn't turn the steering wheel.she called me told me what had happened , also saying the display on dashboardwas on , a message thatreadelecttric power assist failure, i arrived where she was and drove the mariner home. This happened on a friday night so had to wait until monday to call ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673 to see what could be done, after allthis is a national recall.

My 2008 mercury mariner intermittently loses power steering.luckily, so far,it has failed when the vehicle is started.it returns when you shut the car off and restart it.the steering wheel also vibrates when stopped and the motor is running.there is also a "clanking" noise when you turn the wheel.this is the vehicle my daughter is learning to drive in,and i'm concerned about her safety and her passenger's safety.i took the vehicle into a repair shop and they said i may need a new steering column and have heard of a lot of complaints about steering problems with the 2008's.in fact, the day it was in for service there was a 2008 ford escape(basically the same vehicle) there with the same problem.

I was doing 45 miles an hour on pulaski highway when my power steering went out and i almost hit another car but when i talked to the car dealer they keep saying they worrying about getting their car payment so how do i get this fixed it was on the recall list but they said since it wasn't made in kansas it don't cover here i've been taking it to different shops and everybody talking about like a thousand to $2,000 i've been putting money in this front end for the last couple months first it was the to u-joint to connect the power steering then it was the calipers overheating now is no steering at all

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle shook and the steering wheel locked without warning. The failure recurred several times. The contact called pacifico ford at 267-233-6945 (located at 6701 essington ave, philadelphia, pa 19153), but no one answered the phone.

When starting up the car, i was unable to turn the steering wheel without significant effort. Felt like the wheels were frozen to the ground. After turning the car off and on again, it let go and steered as usual. Now the steering wheel shakes and vibrates and a rattling noise occurs at low speed and certain positions when the wheel is turned. It has recurred several times since the first time and always when the car starts. It can be stopped by turning off the ignition and restarting the car.

While driving the power steering went out on my vehicle.there is a recall for this same issues with other mercury mariner but appears mine is not covered by this recall however i am having the same issue as the recall.

The power steering went out on my vehicle so i took to 3 mechanics which all said the same thing that it was my power steering and has a recall code of 14s05. Then on place said they can fix but then told me they couldn't after charging me $700 for a new sensor, then told me to take it to ford. When contacted ford they agreed it was a problem but will not fix it because of my "vin" number was not part of the recall. How does this work if problems are known why aren't all "vin" numbers honored in the recall to get fixed?

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that upon entering and powering on the vehicle, the contact stated that it became difficult to steer. The vehicle was not taken for inspection or repairs. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue.the approximate failure mileage was 124,000.

Power brake booster brake system lock on highway. Power steering went out while driving nowarning . Almost had accident on snow due to bad. Transmission. Transmission went out on highway. Unable to start car ignition switch.

Steering tork sensor and motor improperly detects inputs, caused loss of electrical power steering while i was driving. Mariner had been recalled in summer of 2014, recall # 14s05, just software was updated. Software update only does not correct the problem.. This failure is life threating. I would like to file a petition and request a hearingfor determination from nhtsa regarding whether ford adequately met its obligation to remedy recall 14s05.

Spring of 2014 is when the power steering had began to go out randomly and it would come back on once you shut the ignition of and restarted it. I called the local ford dealership and they said there was nothing they could do about it right at that moment because they were waiting for a recall to be established because they didn't have the software to fix it. July of 2014 a recall notice was received in the mail. I didn't have the recall performed until december 4th 2014 and when they hooked the computer to the mariner they were advised to reprogram itand then the recall would be complete. It worked just fine with no problems like before for only month. Then on january 2nd while my husband was driving in the snow at night the power steering went completely out. We take it back in and we find out that the entire steering column now has to be replaced costing us 912.65!!the dealership said they talked to ford corporation about what theywould do but they responded that since the recall was performed it was our responsibility to pay the bill because the steering column went out on it's own (you who is reading this, i assume, knows this is just a load of crap!)now its november 2015 and still no new news on how this investigation is going but i encourage we get the word out and have as many people as possible write complaints!

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While pulling out of a parking space, the steering wheel became very difficult to turn. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact also stated that the failure occurred approximately three other times. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.consumer stated vehicle was not fixed properly.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While exiting the highway at 45 mph, the power steering seized. The contact was able to slow the vehicle down and pull over onto the shoulder. The contact had the vehicle towed home. Bill kay ford (14633 s cicero ave, midlothian, il 60445, (708) 388-3000) stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall; therefore, the contact would have to pay for the repairs. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 168,000.

Steering wheel starts to shake around 35 miles per hour. It was becoming difficult to steer so i took it to a local dealership. After being charged for a diagnosis they stated it was the steering torque sensor. They stated there was a recall for my make and model but my vin was not included. How can only some vin's be included but not all? after doing some research myself i've seen multiple complaints about this issue but not everyone is able to get it resolved through the recall.

2008 mercury mariner.consumer writes in regards to vehicle manufacturer refusal to pay recall repairs.the consumer stated while driving, he lost power steering.the consumer lost power steering again, a month later. The dealer reprogrammed the modules to prevent sudden loss of power steering assist.five days later, the dealer replaced the torque sensor. However, it did not resolve the problem. Recall # 14v284000.

A message saying 'power steering assist fault' came on and the steering wheel began to shake very noticeably, almost as if the power steering was about to quit. The vehicle was taken to the dealership in 2014 for recall 14s05 and the dealership supposedly did their software update. Now they say it is due to the power steering torque sensor needing replacing which is the exact recall 14s05. They are not honoring it because they said it was fixed when it was brought in previously even though the problem was not fixed, only bandaged so they can charge me $650 later on. This is a safety concern that they are knowingly forcing people to pay for. There is a facebook post regarding this very thing.

Lost power steering all of a sudden.i was parked in my garage and went to back out and no longer had power steering.luckily i was pulling out of my driveway and i could pull back in to assess the situation.had i been driving on a highway and this happened i don't think i would've had the strength to steer the car to my destination.the car has a recall in place for this but my vin number doesn't seem to be affected.i am wondering why?i wasn't even notified of this recall back in 2014- recall 14v284000i read the codes off of my vehicle and b1342 variable assist power steering module code.the other code is b2290 occupant classification system fault front passenger side (this may be an air bag issue) which i have told the dealer about in years past.i don't know what the safety risk is with that code.

I have experienced issues with the steering column.vehicle makes a clicking/ticking sound when approaching a stop.steering wheel shutters from side to side at a complete stop and upon starting from a dead stop.vehicle was taken to two service garages (one ford, one independent) and was diagnosed as in need of replacement of the power steering unit.vehicle also had intermittent loss of power steering.when starting the vehicle at my residence the power steering did not work.however, after taking it to the first service garage for diagnosis the power steering was operable again.since the replacement of the power steering unit the vehicle has not exhibited any further symptoms or issues.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While attempting to maneuver the vehicle from a parking space, the power steering assist failed and the electric power assist failure warning indicator illuminated. The contact, an independent mechanic, inspected the vehicle and took it to the dealer. The technician informed the contact that nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering) no longer applied to the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 146,310.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the power steering failed as soon as the engine was started. The vehicle was turned off and on several times before the steering corrected independently. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who informed the contact that the steering torque indicator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer who informed the contact that the steering torque indicator needed to be replaced. The dealer advised the contact that there were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure who offered no assistance.the failure mileage was 150,000.updated 01/18/12*ljupdated 03/13/12

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving 10 mph, the steering wheel began to shake violently and the power steering light illuminated. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering torque sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that the vehicle was previously repaired for a steering recall, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Power steering is not operating.

Took my car in for the recall back in 2014. I was told that if it was not out, that all they could do is reprogram it and that when it does go out they will replace it then. Now 2 1/2 yrs later, on my way to work, my dashboard displayed "power steering assist fault" and my steering went out. I took it to the dealership today and they told me that it was throwing code # b2278, which is the steering shaft torque sensor, and that i had to contact ford about the recall since i didn't have any open recalls for my vehicle. The lady with ford told me that the recall was a one-n-done deal and since they reprogrammed it in 2014, there is nothing they can do. I asked her for the # to file a complaint and she told me that all complaints, either by phone or e-mail, comes through their office and i will get the same answer from anybody who received it. I can understand a one-n-done if they replace it, but all they did was prolong the breakdown. They knew it was bad, so why just reprogram it. That's not fixing anything. My son was driving the car just hours before i got in it and it went out. Thank god it didn't happen to my son, who has only been driving for 1 1/2 yrs.

When taking this vehicle in for recall service ford # 14s05 (nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000), the reprogramming of the electronic power assist steering was done, but was told the steering shaft and lower u-joint was faulty and needed to be replaced.the description of the recall indicates failed components will be replaced, but upon inquiry at the dealer (brondes, toledo, ohio) i was told it only applied to electronic components--not mechanical ones.the wear on these components is exactly what happens when the torque sensing device is not working properly. This seems to be me to be ford not wanting to meet its financial obligation to fix this entire recall.this was a new design introduced in this model year and it is only now starting to fail.i asked the dealer about assistance with the repair and was denied; and i called the ford hotline and was similarly denied assistance with the repair, but advised to retain my receipts in case there was further action on this recall.the internet has several references to this type of failure/repair.i think they are directly linked.

Power steering completely failed while operating the car, posing a danger.transmission lurches on upshift between 1 - 2 gear while accelerating.electrical system will not charge battery and completely fails while the vehicle is in operation on the highway, posing a danger.vehicle may or may not restart immediately.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving approximately 35 mph, the power steering failed without warning. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering) at byerly ford (located at 4041 dixie hwy, louisville, ky 40216, (502) 448-1661). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner.the contact stated that the power steering assist failed. The steering wheel and brake pedal started shaking as the failure occurred. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told that the electronic power assist system failed and would require replacement. The contact stated that no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel prior to the failure. The vin was not available. The failure and the current mileage was 99,000.

Power steering failed while making a right turn from a city street into a parking lot at approximately 10mph.i responded to ford/mercury's initial recall several years ago, taking the to midway ford (roseville mn). They claimed to have performed whatever was required to address the power steering recall.admittedly, i was unsure what this required at the time.several months later, the power steering went out.i was unaware this could possibly have related to the initial recall.after i paid for a diagnosis at the same dealer, i was told they needed to replace the entire steering column.i obtained a second opinion from a local mechanic who remedied the issue by putting in a new battery. New battery in, power steering returned.now, two years later, the power steering suddenly failed yet again.there were no warning lights, just a sudden and complete loss of power steering.it's clear whatever "fix" the dealership did when i took it in after receiving the recall notice did not address whatever the persistent issue is with the power steering.i know this now after reading *dozens* of similar complaints.i also see from reading these complaints that the dealer will surely not cover the cost of a fix at this time, byclaiming the recall issue was addressed previously - which, it's apparent it was not.i'm done with ford autos after this experience.this is unjust and unsafe.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the power steering assist fault warning light illuminated. The contact mentioned that the vehicle did not start experiencing issues until after it was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The vehicle was taken to dealer.the technician diagnosed that the torque steering sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but refused to provide any assistance since the vehicle was previously repaired under a recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 185,000.

Unable to turn key to start vehicle, had to manually move steering wheel. Replaced ignition switch in may 2012, then replaced steering column ignition lock assembly in july 2013. Received a safety recall notice from ford regarding power steering system reverting to manual steering mode. I spoke with the service manager at the local ford dealership and was told that my previous repairs were covered under the recall. I submitted the paperwork to ford for reimbursement and was denied.

There was a recall on the power steering torque sensor on my vehicle i purchased from a used car lot. The previous owner had the recall "fixed" which ford said was a software update in 2014. My steering wheel started shaking and making a ticking noise so i took it to the shop where they diagnosed this same part as the problem also stating it needed to be replaced, not just "software updated" which is not what was done in 2014. I contacted ford directly to see if they would fix it and was told it was my responsibility because it was already "repaired" in 2014. This is a safety concern as your steering wheel can seize up with no warning while driving. Do they not have to fix a safety recall? a software update is not "fixing" the problem when the actual part needs to be replaced. Please help!!

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving 25 mph and making a left turn, the steering wheel seized without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the electric power steering assist column failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired yet. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle would not be repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering) due to the mileage. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.

The steering box torque sensor was a part of the 2014 ford recal. The previous owner had the sensor replaired in compliance with the recall in november of 2014.. I purchased the vehicle as used in december of 2017. In december 2018 the sensor failed again while i was driving, which caused the steering to become hard to operate; exactly 4 years and 1 month after the initial recall repair. I took the vehicle to a ford repair shop and was informed, after being charged $75.00 for the diagnosis, i was told that the recall would not be honored because of the previous remedy performed in 2014. If the problem was fixed why does 4 years and 1 month later the same problem occurs? apparently the faulty sensor was not fixed.

My dashboard displayed "power steering assist fault" and my steering went out i search in the web and i found a recall 14s05 ' electric power steering ' 2008-2011 ford escape & mercury mariner but i put my vin # in nhtsa no information about my vehicle comes up. What should i do? thanks.

My power steering failed and although ford recalled 900,000 08 marniners my wasnt one of them and isnt covered.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at 2 mph, the steering wheel seized. The vehicle was taken the dealer where it diagnosed that the torque sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Prior to this failure the vehicle had a software update under nhtsa campaign 14v284000 (steering). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000.

My wife was driving on her way home, and out of nowhere the steering felt weird, and while driving the car shut off. No power steering or power brakes (due to engine shutting off) and we do not know why this happened.

It started off when you get on the freeway you have to hold the steering wheel tight because it jumps in the next lane. And it's hard to steer especially trying to turn and guide it going straight.

Never had a problem till i received a paper back in nov.2014 for a recall on power steering so i took it in they said it checked out they updated it and ever since there just wasn't something right about our steering.at red lights the steering wheel would vibrate and jerk back and forth without me touching it and then today i heard 3 chimes and seen nothing pop up on dash then bam the warning light came on and said power steering assist failure and i had to use everything i had to steer it home.

My 2008 mercury mariner power steering went out while driving. I turned it in to get looked at two different places. Both places stated that it should be a recall problem. After doing further research the 2008 mercury mariner does have a recall on it for the power steering issue, however my vin number is not being warranted for the same issue. This is obviously a manufacturer issue, which possibly could've caused a harmful situation to myself and my family or others on the road driving. Luckily no one was harmed while the power steering went out, but that does not change the fact that my 2008 mercury mariner should not be covered. Please address this issue as soon as possible as it is a costly inconvenience that 100% should be covered under recall as stated online that these vehicles all have the same power steering issue. Thank you in advance for your time looking into this matter.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving approximately 40 mph, the power steering warning light illuminated intermittently. The steering wheel was difficult to turn left or right. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering needed to be updated. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted intermittenly. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Recall for this vin shows incomplete.

Steering stops working while driving. I have to slam brakes stop turn the car off and on then it works again for a few miles.

Defective part on the steering wheel was replaced at 111,000 miles, the vehicle is now at 176,000 miles and the part needs replaced again. Power assist mechanism. We have no power steering. Ford said they won't replace it, it had already been done. Need to know what to do next.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact was driving 5 mph when the power steering assist failed. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for inspection. The contact was advised that the steering column would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the incident. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.

My car is well maintained. I do everything to keep it running well and now the power steering only works half the time. It is now also making a clunking noise in the steering wheel column and the wheel will shake on its own while in park. I have read lots of complaints about this same problem on many i these vehicles and something needs to be done! $1300 is a ton of money to pay to have a "sensor" probably the size of a fuse replaced! and it's very scary when the power steering goes out while your doing 70 down the highway!

Hello, i have a 2008 mercury mariner hybrid. I return from work one evening. My wife was going out and decided to take drive my vehicle. As she backed up she found it very hard to turn the steering wheel. The electric power steering system went out.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at 55 mph, the steering wheel seized without warning. The failure occurred once. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact also stated that the vehicle was repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v248000 (steering) by the previous owner. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While, driving 25-30 mph the steering wheel was hard to turn. The steering sensor fault warning indicator light was illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the failure was similar to nhtsa campaign number 14v284000 steering. The manufacturer was contacted but, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 200,000.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact was not experiencing a failure until after a repair was completed by a dealer for a power steering recall. The dealer indicated that they provided the remedy but the contact was unable to confirm that they repaired the vehicle. Shortly after the dealer's repair, the steering wheel had a strong vibration and the contact had to apply force to the steering wheel to ensure that it was stationary while driving on the road. The vehicle was taken back to a dealer for diagnostic testing. The dealer indicated that they would not provide a solution so the contact was waiting on instructions from the manufacturer. The vin was not included in nhtsa action number: dp15001 (steering). The vin and failure mileage were not available. Updated 05/04/17*lj

The contact owns a 2008 ford mariner. While driving approximately 15 mph and making a right turn, the power steering suddenly failed and the steering wheel became very difficult to turn in either direction. Also, the message "power steering assist fail" was displayed. The failure was not diagnosed or repaired. The local dealer (campbell ford, 2801 s. Eleventh st, niles, mi) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the vehicle was previously serviced in february of 2015 per nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The contact indicated that the vehicle experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 160,000.

I took my 2008 mercury mariner in for service recall 14s05 for the torque sensor that can cause the power steering to revert to manual.within the last week the electronic power steering assist had quit at least 4 times.at the same time, the steering wheel began to vibrate and shake when the vehicle was stopped or idling.after taking the vehicle in for the recall issue, i was notified that they vibration/shaking is due to the steering gear that is not covered by the recall.this issue occurred only after the recall issue and i do not believe that it is a mere coincidence that this happened simultaneously and is not as a result of the bad torque sensor.ford states that there is no other documented problems with this and that i will be responsible for the cost of the repairs for the steering gear.there have been many known issues with this vehicle including a previous recall for the transmission cooler leak and defective tone rings in the abs (i've replaced the passenger side once and the driver side twice in a six month period with each individual repair costing on average $350).

Drove to work about 15 miles and shut vehicle off.then started vehicleto move vehicle to another spot and steering was tight and on dash it said power steering assist fault.was unable to steer car.called ford customer care because i wanted to know if my vehicle had been fixed with campaign14v284000 andwas told campaign was closed.

"ford power steering recall 2008 mercury mariner"while driving, "power steering assist fault" displayed on my console and experienced a sudden loss in power steering, making it very difficult to turn the steering wheel.i found a recall listing in 2014 #14s05 for this same issue for the same year and model as my vehicle.i have been told by both ford motor co. And my local.dealershio, that my vehicle.does not qualify for a recall.there was no warning of this failure, no engine lights or warnings we're onprior to operating the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the remedy for nhtsa campaign number 14v284000 (steering) was completed on october 31, 2014 and the dealer updated the software for the power steering control module. The contact mentioned that while operating the vehicle the power steering malfunctioned making the steering wheel very difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the torque sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced but would not repair the failure as part of the recall. After notifying the manufacturer, the contact was informed that the remedy to satisfy the recall had been completed previously when the dealer updated the software. The failure mileage was 100.000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the power steering assist failed and the steering wheel pulsated abnormally. The failure recurred twice. The contact took the vehicle to a mechanic and was told that the steering column would need to be replaced. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 125,000.

I was making a left hand turn out of a driveway when i suddenly did not have any power steering. I was 3/4 of the way across the highway when this happened. I was almost in the ditch, but i slammed on the brakes and with extreme force managed to turn the wheel. Thank god no other vehicles were approaching, as this is a blind spot the warning lights came on informing me that this was a power steering assist default. I looked it up on the internet to see what had to be bought to fix it and it had informationthat there had been a recall for this problem somewhere around 2014 or 2015. I contacted ford motors and they saidno cars with my vin # had been recalled .

I started losing power steering approximately once a month but could turn my car off and it would restore itself.i took my car in for the recall on july 29, 2014, and everything was fine for a few months but then november 8, 2014, it did the same thing as before and november 9, 2014, the power steering went out completely.i took my car to the ford dealership that did the recall and they told me i needed a new steering column.obviously their reprogramming in the recall did not fix the problem and have seen the same problem with other people.i keep getting the run around from customer relations who tells me the dealership needs to call the recall exemption department but when i tell the service department they act like they do not know what i am talking about and that due to my vehicle having so many miles they can't help me.it only has 5,000 miles since the recall.the dealership even told me they had another mariner do the same thing recently.ford needs to own up to their faulty steering in these vehicles before people get seriously injured due to this.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the vehicle was at a stand still outside of the garage, when the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to two different independent mechanics who associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering) however, the vin was not included. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 127,816.

Loss of steering assist while driving.

Power steering assist failure error code appeared 12/27/15 while i was driving and immediately i noticed the steering was very stiff and difficult changing lanes and turning plus almost unmanageable especially from a standing/stopped position

I had the letter for the recall # 14s05 after having trouble with power steering just going out without warning and having close calls of hitting on coming traffic. The dealer acknowledged the recall letter and the vehicle was brought in and they upgraded the software and cluster panel to warn me when it would happen. It did not solve the issue with it still going out! i called a few times about it and they said that was what it was supposed to do. It would happen randomly sitting at a light and beep but no message on panel and then be ok. Recently went on a trip and was getting gas and message power steering assist malfunction came on. Computer hooked up at local repair shop (was weekend) stated "torque sensor malfunction" he hit option for auto config and helped temporarily. I notified ford that monday set appointment and car was doing it off and on all weekend and had a near miss with a head on collision as i could not even steer manually. The dealer stated it was the torque sensor and needed the steering column replaced. Ford said no it was my problem to pay to fix but dealer said was related to recall. They only updated software because of the code at time but still has been a problem since, and now much worse and more often. I can not afford $1,500 for this and don't feel i should have to as was a defect with ford and 1.1 million others had this. My wife is disabled and now she can't even go to the local grocery or dr because she can not steer car when power steering goes out. The updated software just warns me by message and alarm but doesn't fix the issue and i can not drive without wondering when next near miss is an accident!! i know this recall is closed but had been given a case # by ford 07/24/15#7564118 and spoke to maureen at 800-392-3673...updated 11/04/15 updated 12/13/2017

Had minor steering issues and found i had a recall on it for the power steering. Took it to seelye wright of kalamazoo and they reprogrammed it. Within two weeks of this the steering wheel was jumping all over the place when stopped and would pulsate. This problem was not there before i took it in. I called them and they told me they didn't have time to see me and that they were all booked up until after the new year, etc. Essentially shooing me away. I later did make an appointment and they found that i need a new steering column, which is included in the recall, however they told me that my recall was closed.? this didn't make sense to me since i am still having issues and now i need a new steering column? i am being forced to drive this vehicle with broken steering that should be covered by the recall. I have been taking this vehicle back and forth to work and taking my kids to school in the morning. I feel like ford and even more so seelye should make this right. I am driving a vehicle that is a danger to myself and others because the recall was not properly fixed. Seelye closed the recall early and now i am being stuck with fords mistake. Update: called ford and they gave me a case number ca11743787, and told me to take the car in to get fixed. When i showed up to get the car fixed i ran into the "closed" recall problem again. Now i am on the phone with ford waiting an answer to see if they will actually honor the recall and fix it. Ford is not choosing to honor the recall since the dealership closed it without it being fixed correctly.

The power string stops functioning while driving..very serious issue.

Steering shakes at any speed including when in park.power steering also completely failed two times in the last 48 hours, shutting off the ignition and turning it back on restored power steering on both occasions.this is my wife's car which she uses to transport our 2 year and 9 month old children, as such a failure during operation could be devastating.i have her taking my vehicle until we get this safety issue resolved.

My power steering went out and on the dash it said "power steering assist fault". I took it to the ford dealership and they said the torque sensor went out and the electric steering column has to be replaced. There was a recall on the torque sensor in 2014, recall 14s05, and their solution was to do a software update instead of replacing the steering column. When i called ford's corporate office about this they said they have not decided to pay for the steering column to be replaced. I am filing this complaint because the solution to the recall did not fix the problem because the torque sensor still failed and ford should be responsible. I know there is an ongoing investigation about this issue and hopefully ford will do the right thing and reimburse everyone that has had to pay for this to be replaced.

Driving and my wheel shakes and makes a horrifying noise. It's almost scary. Scared my wheels going to seize while i'm driving. Turn the car on sometimes and the power steering has failed. Have to restart the car to get it to work. Have read multiple other people who have the same problem. $2000 to get it fixed. This is ridiculous. Need a recall.

My teenage son was driving this vehicle his 2008 mercury mariner when the steering wheel froze without warning. It took all my strength but he manage to get to his grandparents andpulled over. His dashboard indicated it was "power steering assist fail."the power steering failure was the #1 trending complaint on carcomplaints.com in april, 2014 and is a known problem. Prior to contacting the dealership,i research it and found thatford issued safety recalls for approximately 1.1 million cars in north america. The first recall affected escape and mercury from 2008-2011. However, i did not receive a recall notice and when the dealership was called we were informed the recall had expired. Safety recalls should not expired, especially for known issues like this.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While operating the vehicle, the power steering assist was inoperable and made the steering wheel very difficult to turn in either direction. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the steering wheel torque sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer (hixson ford, 2506 s. Macarthur dr, alexandria, la) was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 251,000.

Steering wheel will freeze up while driving.steel on steel horrible noise when driving. Shifter gets stuck have to put it in neutral to start it.

Steering wheel shaking. Vibrating, as if quickly turning on and off between settinga. Tonight my power searing went out on my way home from work.i work 60 hrs a week. In a bad neighborhood. I can't afford for this vehicle to go out on me. And now it is. And mercury wont help me. They will play dumb and stand by while the whole vehicle falls apart as i write the last check of the $24,000 car note next month. How convenient. Just after the warranty ends.

On four different occasions while driving my 2008 mercury mariner, the steering wheel has locked up.each time it has happened i have been turning at an approximant speed of 25 mph and i have been able to maneuver the steering wheel enough to pull over on the side of the road.

While driving, power steering failed during intersection turn.no accident, just wrestled steering wheel through problem.my mechanic said failure was "steering shaft torque sensor".upon research, i found this seems to be part of a recall that i was not aware of (ref 14v284000 issued 5/29/2014 -- also ref ford 14s05).called ford customer service for verification.could not get verification of past qualification for my vin, just that "none open now".said for recall in question, that ford management had since closed that recall as complete. How can i verify that my vin originally part of that recall?and if so, is there no relief available?expensive repair -- $500+.

My power steering was reprogrammed under recall 14s05 back in 2015. Because i did not have any active codes in my system forward reprogrammed the power steering control module. My vehicle now is showing trouble code b2278. The original code that triggered a recall. My power steering failed while i was driving the vehicle. As a result i tore a muscle in my side trying to maintain control of my vehicle. I attempted to contact the dealership and was told that the recall was worked and closed. However i decided to contact ford motor company in michigan to see if they could re open my recall. I was informed by a representative by the name of mickey that it was basically my responsibility now and not their problem. I just want my vehicle repaired under recall.

I drove into a parking lot and all of a sudden i could not steer the vehicle. It was like having 4 flat tires at once. No warning signals from the dashboard. After turning the vehicle off and restarting later i could steer it home.on the following monday the 25th of november, i took it to a local mechanic i know and he decodeda power steering sensor malfunction. The whole steering column had to be dismantled to put in the new electric power steering pump. What happens if these units go out when you are doing 70 mph on the interstate? my cost was $1262.43i will never buy a ford product again.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving approximately 25 mph and making a left turn, the steering wheel seized and became difficult to maneuver. I bought this vehicle a few months ago. I was driving down the road on the highway at about 75 mph and all of a sudden the steering wheel started to shake. I became scared as i thought i might crash when i started to slow down and try to pull to the side of the road. Steering the car even to the side of the road was hard for me. The steering wheel even shakes when it's in idle. I contacted the manufacturer as upon my goole search, it showed an old recall with this same issue i am having. I took my vehicle to a mechanic who gave me the code of b2278 which is steering shaft torque sensor which will cause the vehicle to be hard to steer. I looked back at past complaints and it shows several owners having the same steering issue but did not report it to the manufacturer. I do not believe that when the recall was active that this issue was repaired at that time. I called ford and they refuse to correct the issue so that leaves me to get this repaired which will be several hundred dollars i don't have. I completed further research and found that there is no statue of limitations on any recall and in fact i have 10 to 15 years after an active recall to have the recalled issue repaired but no one will honor this. What can i do?

Mercury mariner recall,i purchased a 2008 mercury mariner on9/27/14. On12/19/14 at night while on highway the wrench warning light came on and the car decreased speedand i almost got hit by the carfrom the rear, pulled in emergency line and had suv towed. My wife was driving home with our son from saint louis children's hospital back home 250 miles. As she's driving the power steering fails. When she gets home she tells me and i go out and start the vehicle and the power steering worked fine. Since original incident the vehicle electronic power assist steering (epas) works intermittently and sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Called the local ford dealership, tri-lakes ford and they claim it's not a recall or a common problem although there's is tons of incidents of this happening nationwide all over the internet. Angered i then called ford customer service and they give me the same run around saying this is unfortunate and they don't hear of this problem much and they cannot and will not help me. How many lives or wrecks has to be damaged before this issue is a recall? ford knows its a fault and need to own up to it. The mercury mariner has the exact same part number for the replacement column as the ford escape so i know this is a common problem. What if it was devastating? what if my wife and terminally ill child was injured or worse killed because of this problem? the real question should be, what of it was your child or your wife? ford has lost my business for good. As well as our local dealership.

My power steering went out while i was driving. I took this vehicle to my mechanic and he said that it was related to the power steering recall they did on this type of car. But when i put in my vin it said this car was not recalled. So i am wondering if you guys skipped over my vehicle. I would appreciate if you would look into this. Thank you.

We have had a 2008 mercury mariner for little over a year and i was driving and the powersteering stopped working while i was trying to make my way to the highway to get myself and my 3 children home and i couldn't steer it was to hard come to find out there was a torque sensor recalled for this car but when i run the vin says no recall and i noticed there were others who complained of this same problem that they were told it wasn't recall for their 08 mercury eitherbut there is a problem this could cause a crash so thankful it quit working before i got on the high way at higher speed could have crashed with my babies so i'm confused why there is no recall since others with the 08 mercury had same problem and ford said theirs wasn't a recall yet obviously it should be looked into since others are having the problem too.

I purchased this car used in september 2015. The power steering went out. I looked up the recall which states: ford will notify owners, and dealers will update the software for the power steering control module (pscm) and the instrument cluster module, free of charge. If a vehicle shows a history of a loss of the torque sensor signal or fault codes relating to the pscm when the vehicle is brought in for the recall remedy, the affected components will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on july 18, 2014. Owners may contact ford customer service at 1-800-392-3673. Ford's number for this recall is 14s05. When i went to the dealer they said the recall did not apply. I was charged full price for replace the steering torque sensor. I called ford and they set up a case # which is cas86223147. They explained that the prior owner brought the car in when they received the recall notice. They had the software updated but did not replace the torque sensor. As a new owner and with the recall still in effect,i feel the recall should be honored for the replacement of the torque sensor.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the power steering assist failed. The contact was unable to turn the steering wheel in any direction.

Power steering assist failure.my steering column would shake uncontrollably, while the vehicle was in parked, stopped at a light, and while driving.after i got an alignment, the power steering completely failed.

We bought our 2008 mariner in january 2013 and have never had any problems with it until now.we received a recall notice about the steering and had it fixed.we still never have had any problems.last week, about february 18th, 2015, i noticed that while in park with vehicle running, the steering wheel started to vibrate/pulsate without me even touching it.since then, it has only gotten worse, and i can somewhat feel this pulsation even while driving.it is not only pulsating now, but also making a clicking or clunking noise when it pulses/vibrates.i have researched this problem and have run across numerous complaints of this same problem, and people losing power steering because of this, and when they have called ford was told that it was not their problem.i am really scared to drive it now, but don't have a choice because this is the only vehicle we own.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the steering wheel would vibrate uncontrollably as the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact then called porcaro ford (6001 washington ave, racine, wi 53406) where he was informed that his vehicle was not included nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 198,000.

My mercury mariner steering wheel began to shudder and shake and my system check screen said "steering assist " as a problem . This is a recall but my vin for some reason said it had no recalls.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving 55 mph, the steering made a popping sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the steering knuckle failed. The contact stated that the vehicle was not included in the manufacturer safety campaign related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. I have a 2008 mercury mariner (vin # [xxx]) that had the power steering recall in august 2014, where the dealer updated the software (nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000). Three months later (11/3/2014) my power steering is out and needs to be replaced. I am being told since the recall is closed out that it is now my problem to have fixed, yet under the recall they could have replaced the steering column and power steering module software. I completely do not understand this. The safety issue is still present under the recall and obviously was not fixed, surely ford would want to fix it. At least do the things that should have been completed under the original recall. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Power steering fails on start up and steering wheel vibrates while at stop.

Trying to edit complaint # 10823464. Please updaterecall 14v-284 was performed on this vehicle in stevens point, wisconsin on 12/30/15. Service performed was a software modification that was described to prevent the vehicle from going into manual steering mode without warning as a result of torque sensor defect.01/27/16 the power steering assist stopped functioning while driving and moved to manual steering mode,29 days after the recall service was performed. A "power steering assist fault" warning display on the dash. I contacted ford consumer line was told that recall on my vehicle is closed. The update was applied. Now i have to pay for a torque sensor,a cost of $700.00.my understanding of the recall on this vehicle was to prevent this problem. Now we have an error the "power steering assist fault" or with torque sensor, would this repair be allowed under the recall due to these circumstances? i was told the recall was closed and i may have to pay for repairs. I do not believe the initial repair was sufficient. We have never had any problems until this one happen on january 29th. This safety recall 14s05/nhtsa recall 14v-284 was performed on december 30, 2015. The national highway traffic safety administration website has several hundred common complaints the software update did not correctthe problem. We feel we should not pay for any repairs with torque sensor at $700.00. This should be covered by the recall. We have made an appointment for service and is at location today at a ford dealer. I call ford customer service line at and file a complaint, case # 8728537 and was told to save my receipts in case ford has a new recall that comes out to reimburse the cost of repairs. Please nhtsa, speak with the ford about this. Request for a determination, if they feel they adequately met its obligation to remedy this recall and why the problem continues.

-the steering wheel will vibrate or chatter when stopped at a light or stop sign, if the vehicle is parked and idling the steering wheel will visibly oscillate back and forth, to a small amount.-on several occassions the steering wheel wouldn't turn in either direction, once the vehicle was started and shifted into drive; independent of whether it was the beginning of the day or if the vehicle had been recently used. To resolve this issue required shifting to park, powering the vehicle down, and restarting the process.-the certified mechanic at the dealership indicated that this issue wasn't servicable by them and would require replacement of the steering column and electric actuator "pump" mechanism.very expensive!

The steering wheel started by locking up when started. Then it started shaking whenever it was in park or brakes were applied and then just started to shake whenever the car was on. After a few days of this the wheel would start locking up while driving occasionally.

As driving i went to turn right when the steering failed, it was like an old car with manual steering.between abruptly forcing the brake pedal to the floor and trying to force the wheel to the right, i managed to go across the street and into a farmers field ( good thing i bought it with awd).when i restarted the vehicle the steering worked fine.after reading similar scenarios on the internet.i then later contacted ford care and the wonderful personnel tried to tell me thatit is not a concern of ford since it not an issue for ford at this time.failure of steering seems to be major safety concern to anyone who drives a vehicle in my opinion.the worst part of this issue is i deal directly with an automotive supplier of steering column assemblies to ford and other manufacturers in indiana.by knowing what is under plastic and ford telling me i need to replace it, i ask what quality is in the rest of the vehicle.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving 30 mph, the steering wheel started to turn right and left independently. Also, the power steering assist warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was powered off and was restarted, but the failure recurred. The following day, the vehicle was taken to camelback ford (1330 e camelback rd, phoenix, az 85014, (605) 635-7551) where it was diagnosed that the steering shaft torque sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to nhtsa. The failure mileage was 102,000.

My power steering assist went out in 2016 and i had it repaired under the recall (14v284000 from nhtsa 05/29/2014) at the ford store san leandro. The same power steering assist just went out on my vehicle again 3 days ago (03/06/2021)

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the recall notice for nhtsa campaign number 14v284000 (steering) was received in may 2014. The vehicle was taken to the dealer in august 2014 and the power steering software update remedy was performed. On january 16, 2014 while driving the steering wheel began to vibrate and erroneously turn before eventually malfunctioning completely making the steering wheel very difficult to turn. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the steering column was faulty and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that due to the previous software updates the vehicle was not eligible for the recall remedy to replace the affected parts. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the same failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 114,000.

I got a recall notice in the mail for the power steering that it could go out. Took it to a ford dealership - autonation in white bear lake mn_ and they did a software update and closed the recall out as complete. Almost immediately the steering wheel began shaking intermittently and randomly. It got to the point it was shaking violently so i took it back in and was told thesteering column needed replaced. Even though this was one of the options to do in the first place on the recall they said it was no longer covered and would cost $1300.00. I called ford and they refused to cover it as well because the software update was done. Now it is not able to be driven safely until i can afford the repairs. It clearly is related to the recall as i know the 3 options were to update the software, replace torque sensor or replace steering column. I have read countless similar complaints online - yet autonation nor ford will fix the car.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving various speeds, the power steering seized. Lost my power steering on the freeway.problem: steering: electric power assist system failure - recall #14v284000 date of recall 05/29/2014 safety recall 14s05 steering problem ford claimed this was not covered under the recall and i had to pay $2100 for this repair. Power steering cuts out intermittently with no warning. Brought to dealer in september 2010 and they could not find problem. It has happened many times since then. In early 2013 it became more frequent and in february 2013 it was taken to the dealer and diagnosed with a problem that could only be remedied by the complete replacement of the steering column. This repair was done for a cost of $1087.41. No further problems to date. It has since come to my attention that ford has recently issued a recall on vehicles like mine manufactured at the kansas city plant that are experiencing the same exact issues that i have experienced. My vehicle was made at the kansas city plant. I contacted ford and they told me my car is not involved in the recall. I find this hard to believe and think the recall should include my vehicle. I assume that because their data base shows i have already paid to have the complete steering column replaced (which was the only available remedy at the time) it is no longer necessary to modify this vehicle. I feel it is only fair that i be reimbursed for the repair. We am the original owner of the vehicle.

While driving my 2008 mercury mariner, my steering went out on a curve on a 4 lane highway which caught me off guard. I could not move my steering wheel which caused me to almost drive into the car beside me. I pulled over to get gas & when i started the car, the steering was fine. I was told that it would cost at least $545 for just the sensor but that the whole steering column would need replacing so it would be a lot more than that to fix. I was unable to afford a repair, i simply stayed on my guard & would just pull over & re-start the car so that i could drive again safely. Then i got notice of a recall so i took it in & told them that i had issues with the steering & was very glad that there was finally a recall. Then 2 mos later, the steering went out again & this time it is worse than before. I can no longer turn the car off & re-start it to get steering, it is simply gone out completely & it harder to turn than ever. The steering wheel actually tries to turn the opposite way that the direction that i am turning. I called the dealership & they told me that this happened to another person & ford would not cover it and told me that all they did was re-program the car. After researching the recall, i found that if the car shows history of a loss of the torque sensor, that the torque sensor was to be replaced. I then called ford customer care & the lady there was very cold & simply stated that there was nothing they would do since it was already fixed once. I told her that it was not repaired correctly because of previous issues with it, it should have been replaced. She told me to take it up with the dealer that i took it to. I now have neck problems due to driving my unsafe car that i have no money to repair & am still making payments on. This is my only vehicle & i still need to get to work & get my son to school so i am left with no choice but to drive it.

After stopping at red light, making left turn on green, half way thru the turn steering quit working for couple seconds, then started working again, almost striking another car, who was turning also in the right lane, very unsafe

Sterring assist fault. All ready recalled and fixed but same problem reoccurred

I was drivingand my power. Steering assist stopped working and displayed it on the dash. My power steering is completely gone. I was scared to death there was a recall previously for my make and model specifically for the power steering assist but i was told that according to my vintage number my vehicle wasn't part of the recall.

While driving on multiple occasions the power steering in my 2008 mercury mariner turns off.when the steering turns off it is nearly impossible to steer the car safely.it does not react like a vehicle that does not have power steering, it almost seems like you are steering the wheels through cement.you need to put all of your force and energy into turning the wheel even the slightest bit and when the car hits a bump the car wants to go out of control.i will not allow my wife to drive the car because i know that she will not be able turn the wheel if this happens to her.i cannot understand how this isn't a safety hazard and hasn't been recalled sooner.something needs to be done because the repair for this is almost $2,000 dollars.

Was driving when out of no where lost steering, became so hard to move steering wheel, almost crashed when trying to turn wheel to pull out into traffic. Barely made it home.

On august 8th 2014.at the time of the repair at sunnyvale ford, i told the advisor ([xxx] ) that i had an incident where the power steering stopped working and reverted to manual mode.sunnyvale ford then only conducted a re-programming of the electrical power steering.on wednesday, january 21st 2015 while driving my kids to school the power steering went into manual mode again and failed to work (steering wheel was stiff). Sunnyvale ford then directed me to the advisor ([xxx] ) and they asked for the vehicle to be taken in to their shop for a diagnosis (with a fee of $150).i called ford customer service to talk to someone and get their help on the issue, i talked to a representative that told me there was a 12,000 mile/ 12 month warranty on the recall repair. I then had the vehicle towed to sunnyvale ford on friday morning (1/24/15) i was advised that they needed authorization from ford (manufacturer) to re open the recall and replace the power steering torque under the recall, but would not have information until monday january 26th.on monday, january 26th i called, i was then told that [xxx] was out for the day and no one else could help me.i called ford directly to ask for assistance in getting this expedited, they advised me that there was no warranty (contradicting what the representative told me on 1/23/14).i asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that there was a 24 hour call back to speak to a supervisor. On tuesday, january 27th[xxx] called to tell me that the repair would not be covered under the recall and now they would have to replace the column (costing about $1,300). Later on tuesday i received a call from ford customer service supervisor [xxx] to tell me that it wasn't going to be covered.i asked to talk to his manager and he said he is the highest ranked so there was no one else i could talk to.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'

I took my car in for the power steering recall they supposedly fixed it i have no proof of that.since i have gotten my vehicle back the steering wheel started shaking while at a complete stop i took my vehicle back to the dealership and they have told me that i need a new steering column because the torque sensor is bad which is part of the recall and that ford will not cover this under the recall because they already fix it which again i have my concerns that they did not really fix it in the first place.

Large rusting areas in back seat doors, rear wheel wheels and tailgate. Concern lies with rust that cant be seen weakening structural integrity of doors and/or wheel wells and/or tailgate. First noticed blistering paint in 2011 and the problem has grown since.warranty was of no help.have noticed similar patterns on numerous mariners of similar model years, so this has to be a manufacturer defect of some kind. Again concern lies mostly with rust that can't be seen.

The tailgate hinges are breaking that hold the rear window, this is a safety hazard the window will fall out and could hit another vehicles windshield. There are numerous complaints regarding this issue, when you go to dealer they want 320.00 to repair and say they sell many of these brakets it really should have been recall.we have two cars with same defect.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact noticed that the subframe near the rear tires was corroded. The vehicle was taken to a collision center and the inspector stated that the frame above the rear tires was manufactured with a foam like substance. When it rained or when the vehicle was washed, the substance would absorb the water and caused the corrosion to spread inside out. The inspector also stated that the bumper could eventually separate from the vehicle. The manufacturer was aware of the failure, but would not compensate the contact because there were not enough complaints regarding the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000.

2008 mercury mariner with tires balding on one side. Consumer states the tires on one side of the vehicle are going bald.the dealer stated the shock was leaking and the camber was out of specification. The dealer installed a new control arm.it was brought to normal, but not to where it should have been. The dealer then stated there was no adjustment to the camber to correct the problem.

I was driving the vehicle and i heard something click, vehicle started slowing down, got to side of the road, put in park, then tried to go drive, nothing ,moved it to dr2,it moved, went back to park, tried going into reverse nothing, it will move in drive but not reverse.

Throttle body sticking, car pedal would be pushed down andcar would not move then push a little harder and the car would jump forward. This happens whenever the car has been stopped and then the pedal is pushed down again to take off, such as at stop signs, parking lots, drive ways and so forth.took car in and at the firstvisit to the service department they just cleaned the throttle body, when it continued to stick we took it back in and they replaced the throttle body costing hundreds of dollars due to the warranty on the vehicle was out. This one lasted till just after the warranty ran out on the part , then it started sticking again.it appears to stick more in cold weather . We have not replaced it at this time due to the cost of the part and the fact that it does not seem to lastmuch over a year at a time. I understand this is a safety issue , but we do not have the money to replace this part every year .from what i have read this has been a on going problem for other people as well. Why has there not been a recall on this part?

Traveling through williamsburg, va en route to vacation when powertrain light illuminates and power steering is lost.able to steer vehicle into parking lot to wait for tow.had to find a way to get to the open rental locations to continue on trip, unload all luggage including a loaded roof rack into parking lot and reload when rental arrives an hour later. Car was towed the next day to the closest mercury dealer who determines the problem was an incorrectly seated connector pin.dealer secured pin and performed test on power steering module that received a pass.

The cpu unit has had a complete failure and the a new replacement part is not available.vehicle year is a 2008.the problem started to become hard to start the complete failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer.

Everytime i try to fill gas, the pumps keep shutting off. It doesn't matter how fast or slow i do it or the angle. I took it to a local garage and after they inspected it and found no obvious issues, they looked online in their mechanic website and seen that the fuel nozzils for these types of vehicles often need to be replaced due to shape or something similar. It's the only way to fix the problem. I believe if a problem is caused due to faulty design, then i shouldn't have to be the one to pay for the repairs. It's a very frustrating problem. It can take 5-10 minutes to fill tank completely and when in negative temperatures, that's a long time to be standing outside.

Vehicle stalled on highway and will not start back up immediately and when it does it runs very rough i believe it is the throttle body since there was a recall on this engine.

2008 mercury mariner throttle control powertrain light comes on, transmission cannot go into gear properly, it stops at 4000 rpm, and it struggles to go at higher speeds,

My wife was driving on her way home, and out of nowhere the steering felt weird, and while driving the car shut off. No power steering or power brakes (due to engine shutting off) and we do not know why this happened.

Ignition switch teeth messed up causing the key to not turn correctly. Gas pedal sticks when it's cold outside. If you hit a small amount of water it causes the vehicle to lose traction control, abs system goes out, and brakes get really soft and air bag lights come on. Transmission bogs out with 2nd gear.

I purchased this vehicle used last year.my vehicle starting having long shifts and would stall on me when at low speed.i took it to shop and there was a recall on the transmission fluid cooler that can develop a crack in the tube and ultimately cause your transmission to go bad.i was told to call ford for the repair of the tube. I was told that the recall wasn't for my car (vin specific) although the recall was for 2008 mercury mariners. I don't understand what they wouldn't honor my vehicle if mine is a 2008 mariner and has the problem that is in the recall.i was also told that although i just purchased the auto that if if it i had any expired recalls on it that it wouldn't be fixed.i asked to speak to manager or supervisor and she said it wouldn't help. This is a ford policy and it won't be changed.

About 2 months ago, the accelerator on my 2008 mercury mariner started sticking. Today it stuck and remained stuck for about 2 minutes. I took it to the dealer and was told they could not duplicate the problem, but could put a 347.00 part in it just in case it is the problem. I was charge $70.00 for the diagnosis.

Same results of the consumer satisfaction program 13n03.a defective throttle body. Car began to stall/choke out while accelerating.it continued to do so until it finally left me on the side of the road. Ford is aware of the problem but because my car was built at a different time/plant does not offer assistance for a known unsafe problem. This started on the freeway and continued after i exited for fear of stalling on the freeway. Car has to be towed/repaired at my expense. A friend has the same model vehicle/same problem last year, but due to her car being built at that plant/time was compensated for the same exact problem. Again, ford is aware of the problem but minimizes coverage. I can't help but think of what could have happened if my wife/daughter had been driving(at night). In reality, it is unsafe and i could have been killed.

The throttle is held open when the cruise control is employed but remains open when the cruise control is turned off both by using the off button and brake application. This happens at 75-80 mph on interstate highways in az and ut. The power brake booster is ineffective with no intake vacuum. This is very dangerous.

I was driving along the highway and the gas pedal just went to the floor.the engine was still running but i could increase the power. I had to coast across three lanes of high speed traffic in order to get my vehicle safety to the side of the road.this the second time the accelerator cable in this vehicle has snapped without warning. My dealer replaced the first cable last year and just over one year later the same cable has snapped.i was fortunate not to panic and was able to bring my vehicle to the side of the road. This cable snapped twice while i was traveling on the highway. I had no control over my vehicle and could have killed or involved in an accident.my dealer is replacing the cable under my extended warranty but are charging me to replace their defective throttle box. Ford/mercury needs to recall all mariners and ford escapes asap.

I realized sometime last year that my throttle was sticking when i would start the car and begin to take off. It was here and there and then i must have gotten use to it but now it does it even when i'm driving, it sticks all the time. Now it doesn't want to shift at the right times and it acts weird a lot, going up hills, when shifting from gears and so on.

Vehicle does not accelerate from rest.press gas pedal - vehicle does not go - then all of sudden it takes off.dangerous scenario at stop lights.dealer says issue is defective throttle body.

2008 mercury mariner throttle control powertrain light comes on, transmission cannot go into gear properly, it stops at 4000 rpm, and it struggles to go at higher speeds,

Diving along the freeway i had the cruise sent at 65mph and suddenly the mariner was accelerating on it's own.i step on the brake and it disengaged the cruise and slowed.i actually thought it was a fluke of some kind.then driving home i didn't use the cruise and the car just slowed down about 15mph while i had my foot on the gas staying at 55mph.i've experienced this loss of power about 6 random times. I've used the cruise on long stretches of highway(that i rarely drive) and the mariner has accelerated on it's own 4 times.the fourth time resulting in a speeding ticket of 15mph over. This was 1 of 2 times the acceleration was gradual.otherwise it's as if the gas pedal was to the floorboard as it takes off.i see on the nhtsa that there are others having this same problem.i've questioned this at the dealership and they can't find anything wrong nor recreate the problem and there is nothing from ford about this problem.as soon as i am working again i will be trading my ford mariner in for a different vehicle. Until then i won't use my cruise and hope for the best.this is scary that this happens and ford doesn't acknowledge it!

Unintended acceleration. Ascending a winding grade on oregon 140 at 50 mph the accelerator pedal suddenly shot unaided to the floor putting the car in passing gear. When i hit the brake pedal it instantly disengaged the accelerator. The car was not in cruise control mode although it had been earlier.i had disengaged the overdrive function through the button on the gear shift lever and was in straight drive gear. We bought the car in january 2009. This was the 3rd time we have experienced this same problem. This time was the most pronounced and serious since the accelerator was floored. We were passing over the cascades between medford and klamath falls. Two or three miles further up the highway we entered the snow zone and there was ice on the highway. Had we been there at the time of the sudden accelerationthe car could have spun out of control.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would hesitate to accelerate over 15 mph and the service warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed twice that the throttle control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,000.

On 09-24-2009 while traveling on i-95 towards maine near portsmouth, new hampshire, our vehicle a 2008 mercury mariner, with 15,682 miles on the odometer, lost all braking capability at 65 mph.being a retired police officer i was able to talk my wife, who was driving, over into a breakdown lane in an effort to avoid collision with tractor trailers, motor vehicles and fixed objects.ultimately the vehicle was turned onto an off ramp and onto a sidewalk and grass area to increase friction to reduce speed. This was several miles in the making and when the vehicle slowed to under 40 mph we placed it in neutral and were able to stop the car.we noted that the rpms were in the 4,000 to 5,000 range as the throttle appeared stuck.after towing to portsmouth ford, in portsmouth, new hampshire; technicians there determined that the problem was a stretched throttle control& cable assembly (part #7l8z*9!758*c cable ass-throttle contro and part # 8l*z*9725*a shaft mt79758a-accelerator cable).techicians stated that the stretch accelerator cable (which they said was poorly designed) caused the throttle and cruise control to lock, which over rode the braking system.warranty repairs were madeinvoice 497086 tag customer #8023451243.we narrowly avoided what could have been a catastrophic accident and feel this should be brought to your attention as a defect may exist in other simllar 2008 mercury mariners.

The throttle/gas pedal in my 2008 mercury mariner kept sticking and eventually breaking. I had the car towed and taken to a repair shop where they inspected the cable unhooked from the pedal when the technician hooked the cable throttle to the pedal it would not move when pressing down on the pedal, the throttle plate stuck. The technician removed and replace the throttle body assembly.i researched online and found that my issue is the same issue that was a ford escape recall back in july 2012. Is this something i can contact ford about to see if this should also be part of their throttle cable recall.

The contact stated that the vehicle lunged forward excessively while attempting to accelerate. The contact engaged her brakes and when releasing the brake pedal the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician was unable to find a failure. No repairs were made to the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,000.

While driving approximately 30 mph, the accelerator pedal assembly fractured without warning. The contact reconnected the arm; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.

On may 15, 2010, i was accelerating onto a freeway in roseville, mn.the accelerator cable snapped completely disabling the gas pedal. The car immediately slowed down, and we were nearly rearended at 55 miles an hour as i frantically tried to control my vehicle, steer it to safety and put the hazard flashers on. The vehicle has 50, 980 miles so it no longer has bumper to bumper warranty on it and this piece is not considered part of the powertrain and will not be covered under the warranty.this was a dangerous situation and i feel that ford motor company needs to address this issue.the service manager at my dealership feels this is a defect in the manufacturing of this vehicle.

Acts like throttle body failure. No power when accelerating but rpms go up and then surges when finally throttle works . Wrench light on.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that when placing the vehicle into drive, the accelerator pedal could not be depressed all the way down and the vehicle would hesitate. After coasting for a while, the vehicle would rapidly accelerate without warning. The vehicle was not inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000. The current mileage was approximately 40,000.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle hesitated and would not accelerate past 25 mph. In addition, the vehicle accelerated rapidly without warning. The contact stated that the vehicle shut off on numerous occasions and the check engine indicator illuminated briefly without warning. The vehicle was not repairedthe manufacturer was made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 44,000. Updated 08/04/17*lj

In cold weather my gas pedal sticks. Even after i have started my car and let run for 10-15 minutes.when i get in, reverse to forward position and try to accelerate- the gas pedal sticks.i have to slam on it for about 2 minutes before it actually works. This has happened while driving as well, not just the initial start.it definitely happens more in cold weather.what can i do?after research this sounds like it's a common problem with 2008 mercury mariners.i believe it's definitely a safety issue.

The contact startedthe ignition and observed that the accelerator pedal had detached from the cable without prior warning. The accelerator pedal was attached back to the cable; and functioned normal. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the technician replaced the accelerator cable clip. The contact had concern of the safety issue. The failure mileage was 28,600.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the cruise control malfunctioned as well as the rpms. The contact stated that the rpms were inconsistent with the actual speed of the vehicle and went up to 4000 rpms at various speeds. In addition, there was a loud clunking noise in the steering wheel and the contact stated that the vehicle downshifted on numerous occasions. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury mariner. The contact stated that the rear windshield exploded without any warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 82,000.

Ford reprogrammed computer, was supposed to fix the problem. Driving vehicle and power steering assist failure occurred.

I never received reimbursement for putting in a transmission. I was also never notified of any recalls on my transmission.

Sensor in stering wheel is bad, also jerks when it shifts

Defective part on the steering wheel was replaced at 111,000 miles, the vehicle is now at 176,000 miles and the part needs replaced again. Power assist mechanism. We have no power steering. Ford said they won't replace it, it had already been done. Need to know what to do next.

As we drive when we go into a right or left curve it acts like the front wheels lock up for just a few seconds. I had a recall on it back in late summer i had taken it to tri-lake ford in branson missouri they said they fixed the problem but is still doing the same thing. Please check and see if there is anything that can be don before it causes an accident or i get stranded beside the road. Thank you for your help.
