I have a 2008 mecury grand marquis ,i was in a wreck in december 10,2017 frontal impact my air bags did not go off or work during my wreck also my seat belts did not work as well. I got hurt in the wreck because non of my safety equipment work. I bought the car used from ford dealership airbags we're replaced when previous owner had the car he tap a pole in a parking lot. I complaint with ford and dealership i don't know what airbag is in my car . I think it's a takata air bag that is in my cardealership sold me a unsafe car and knew about it. Ford motor company knows about my matter and has done nothing about it. Also shop who worked on car when previous owner had the car. Cuss me out for asking what been done on the car . I ask ford i want my car fixed and repaired for it to be safe so i am still waiting on them. I also want tramway auto body shop in sanford nc to be under investigation for unsafe car repair. Also want ford to recall the car as unsafe or takata air bags could been replaced and install on your car unsafe claim repairs could be done by unfit shop with out owners notice. Geico insurance has been told about airbag non deployment faulty equipment and didn't do anything.
Takatarecallthe passenger side of car, when a passenger is setting in the car seat and the car is moving,i have taken note that the airbag light on dash panel will go off and own. I have notseen the light go off and own.
2008 mercury grand marquis passenger side airbag warning light is activated indicating air bag will not deploy when a passenger is seated . Occurs about 10 -15 % of the time starting about 6 months after purchasing the car new .. Conditionsthat have been observed include reclining seat, pushing seat back, making turns, hitting a bump or pothole . Have had it in for service on six separate occasions and dealer cannot find any diagnostic code indicating that the airbag system is malfunctioning even when the airbag warning light is on . The driver side master airbag warning system does not come on when the passenger side warning light comes on .ford confirms that when the passenger side airbag warning light comes on the airbag will not deploy in event of a crash .ford assigned a case no. Xxxxxx , available on request ,after repeated attempts to diagnose problem by service dept . ,leith lincoln mercury, raleigh nc , finally a ford service engineer checked the airbag system . Ford claims the system is working as designed and that my wife's weight 110 # is the problem .ford confirms that when the passenger side warning light is on the passenger side airbag will not deploy . Ford cannot explain why this malfunction is intermittent and why seat position , bumps or turns cause a malfunction . We tried a 2010 mercury grand marquis with same airbag system and could not get the warning system to activate duplicating the conditions as noted above .ford's customer relations dept refuses to do anything more to fix the defect saying that the airbag system is functioning as designed .
First tried the hazard warning lights while parked on the side of a highway and they did not work. When i drove off i put the headlights on and turned on the windshield wipers. When i got home i turned off the wipers and the headlights but the headlights stayed on. I disconnected the battery cable and 2 days later i drove to the ford dealership. While driving i noticed that my turn signals were not working. When i got to the dealership i pointed out these problems to the service manager. I left the car and they diagnosed a bad light control module. My car is2008 mercury grand marquis ls with 57,628 miles. They charged me $740 to replace the module. I researched recalls and i saw a recall 15s39 with # 15v861000 for this exact problem but it only applied to these same cars thru cy 2005. My car is a 2008. I talked to the dealer and the ford customer representative at 866 436 7332 and they said the nhtsa determines the effected vin number vehicles. There is also a ford customer satisfaction program 14n01 which dealt with this settlement for vehicles thru cy 2005. I believe they extended the warranty for the lcm module for 15 years and 250,000 miles for the effected vehicles thru cy 2005 and they even recompensated customer's who paid for exorbitant repair bills for the light control module. My dealer invoice # is 460317 with kelly ford, inc, 776 s. Magnolia ave, melbourne, fl. 32935(321) 254-4283
2008 mercury grand marquis ls had an electrical outage.*njthe consumer stated the trunk lid would not open using the remote control or by pushing the button. All of the lights went out on the instrument panel and the headlights went out as well.
2008 mercury grand marquis. Consumer states vehicle was recalled for poor steering. The consumer was in an accident whereby he was unable to turn the ignition key off and shift the gear . *tgw
Odometer fades out most of the time...sometimes it will brighten up so you can see it..but soon fades out again..ford wants $600 to fix it...2008 is the only year that fits and there are 4 different ones that fit..can't find a used one
Heating unit does not respond when heat option . Floor , mix ,defrost options are selected and temperature control is at maximum hot
Low beam headlights do not work.high beam works as well as daytime running lights.the dealer said the lcm module needs to be replaced but did not have one in stock and will call me when it comes in.my concern is this problem has been going on since at least the year 2000. Now i have a 100 deductible service warranty on this 2008 mercury grand marquis so it will not be a great expense for me as it would be for others.this issue should have been resolved by now. My guess here is ford is using overstocked earlier year model parts in the new models being built.i understand this is a defective soldering issue.why no recall?
The digital speedometer and fuel readings keep flashing on and off sometimes staying off for short periods of time while engine is running. Is this something under warranty.
The contact owns a 2008 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds at night, the headlights intermittently failed to operate without warning. The contact also stated that the instrument panel went blank while experiencing the failure. The contact stated that the headlights resumed normal operation a few minutes after failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vin was not under recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to a local dealer to have the vehicle inspected. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000.
Had a flat tire and had to install the spare tire that came with vehicle. As soon as i got back on the road , the stability control light, the abs light and the i-p brake light came on. The car would get only 35 mph. For about 7 to 8 miles, then picked up speed so i could run 50 mph. Until i had the tire replaced. After i had the tire replaced i took the car to a mechanic to have the system reset so the lights would return to normal. The unit that controls this had to be replaced because the difference in tire size had destroyed the control unit.it cost me $313.50 to have a used unit installed, if it had been a new unit, it would have cost over $600. Ford motor co. Should have to pay the cost of this replacement because the damage was caused by equipment that was supplied with the vehicle when new.
Vehicle accelerates suddenly with no warningaccelerator sticks
I was driving on the interstate going about 65 mph. I accelerated rapidly to pass a semi when i was getting close to my exit. After passing the semi i let my foot off of the accelerator but the vehicle did not slow down. I applied the brake pedal but the vehicle kept accelerating for about 5 seconds. After that i heard an audible "clunk" come from the engine compartment and the vehicle returned to normal operation. This is the second time this has happened the first was a month ago accelerating rapidly from a stand still position. In neither case did i wreck or get a speeding ticket.
Vehicle was purchased used in june, 2011. While braking for a stop light, vehicle suddenly accelerated. Had to forcefully pump brakes to stop vehicle from hitting vehicle in front.car returned to normal operation as soon as i got it stopped.have had similar incidents a couple of times before, although not as bad as this one, however, at that time i thought maybe i had accidentally pressed the accelerator while braking. I know that was not the case this time.
While driving up a short moderate grade, the car engine shut off. The battery (nearly new) was fine and the dashboard lights were displayed with icons lit. The steering was affected and the car drifted to a stop on a level surface. I was successful in restarting the car on the first try and this incident has not recurred.i did not make note of what the dashboard lights were, as i was more interested in restarting the car. I dohave a rather heavy key set (heavier than most).
The vehicle recently experienced two sudden acceleration events in two days 15 miles apart while decelerating and using the brake in what could only be related to an intermittent failure of the electronic throttle control.while on vacation during a 75 deg evening with the car at operating temperature i was navigating some s turns high on a bluff at 30mph. While coming into a corner with my foot on the brake and slowing to around 20mph the car suddenly accelerated. I hit the brakes hard, turned away from the corner to avoid going over the cliff and turned off the key. All this happened in less then 5 seconds. The next day mid afternoon after driving 20 miles i was leaving a park and traveling on a level straight road at around 25mph. Coming up to a stop sign i let off the gas and started applying the brake (like the day before) at about 15mph the car violently accelerated. I hit the brakes hard again, the rear tire started spinning and it pushed the car through the crosswalk past the stop sign and into oncoming traffic by about 4ft before i got the engine shut off. Once again this all happened in a matter of seconds. After a restart everything was normal again. I drove around 250 mi to get home without any further incident.two weeks prior to these events i had the car at the dealer to program a new transponder key, reset the keyless entry and test the throttle to see if the initial deadband could be adjusted (no adjustment was done). After the incident i returned to the dealer and they said they have never heard of this problem, there are no recalls or tsbs, and the ecm would not datalog anything since there was no trouble light. They said there was nothing they could do. I consider this unsatisfactory, deem it a major safety defect and ford should be required to correct this immediately.a quick search reveals i am not the only one who has experience this.
Just bought the 2008 grand marquis, first day, radio did not work, (still does not work properly). Took the car in for oil change 2500 miles, also asked them to check out a noise the car was making. I was just informed yesterday i need a new engine. They the dealer said it was something to do with the timing chain at first the replaced that part and still had the noise. I will never own a ford product, and they wonder why they are losing market share!!! by the way, this is my 9th grand marquis, i just traded an 2005 to get rid of it, it too had a noise they could not fix. Now my wife will not even drive this one when we get it back from the dealer.
The first time i changed the oil in my 2008 mercury grand marquis when i started the engine there was a loud mechanical noise for a few seconds. I took it to the dealer and told him to change the oil and listen for the noise which they heard and was told all 2008 grand marquis do this .also i notice the engine is noisy in the morning when i start it. I think ford has a problem with these engines if they all do it.
Unexpected acceleration of 2008 mercury grand marquis, while my foot was on the brake, slowing the vehicle. This happened twice in the past 3 days. Second incident occurred oct. 31, 2008. Each incident nearly caused my vehicle to strike another vehicle.
My grand marquis ls 2008 paint have cracked and falling off the hood, top, and back. It is rusted on top were the paint have peel off and now its starting on the hood. Took back to dealer and was told that the paint on car was not cover. It start peeling two month after we got the car didn't have them many miles. So what can be done about my car peeling paint. Every time you wash the car more paint coming off. After that the engine cooling system went out and they told me they are responsible.
On october 27, 2010, my wife was driving with me in the car and she started to brake for a red light.she was going about 30 miles per hour.as soon as she applied the brake, the engine accelerated and she had to use a large amount of braking pressure to stop the car.as soon as the car stopped, she took her foot off the brake and the engine returned to idle.yesterday, i was driving the car at approximately 55 mile per hour and started to move into the passing lane when the traffic light ahead turned red.i applied the brake and the same thing happened.i had to apply a large amount of pressure on the brake peddle in order to stop the car while the engine raced on.as soon as the car stopped, the engine returned to idle and the problem was over.yesterday, i took the car to the dealership where it was purchased and they kept the car overnight to run various tests.they found nothing.i picked the car up this afternoon and am going to now take it to another dealer for inspection.
In july 2009 i purchased a slightly used 2008 mercury grand marquis.on many occasions while driving i have applied the brakes only to feel the car accelerate without warning.i have not had any accidents, but i feel that it is just a matter of time ....the problem resides in the close proximity of the accelerator pedal to the brake pedal.my car has auto-adjust pedal height, but unfortunately both pedals adjust as a single unit, rather than one-at-a-time.simply, the accelerator pedal is too far to the left - about two inches from the rhs edge of the brake pedal, and when i depress the brake pedal, often the right-hand edge of the sole of my shoe contacts the surface of the accelerator pedal, leading to the surge of power -- which is the problem.this is made worse in that when the brake is applied, the pedal will pass to and through the plane of the surface of the accelerator pedal, thus making this shoe-contact more likely.there is abundant room to move the accelerator pedal to the right - with a newly-designed pedal shaft.(the present pedal "hooks" to the left at the bottom part, sort of like the lower part of this "9" digit)or, the pedals could be raised up/lowered independently, in order to increase the vertical distance between them.a thicker rubber pad on the brake pedal would accomplish this handily -- it would need to be about one inch thicker.i am very concerned about this.i contacted ford motor company about this problem within a short time of buying the car.i have contacted them several times, including today, but so far they have been unresponsive.(but of course today's conversation may bear fruit.we shall see.)in the notes of my first call, according to the person who read them to me on a subsequent call, my concern was described as "... Owner needs to know the location of the accelerator and brake pedals ..." or words such as those!

The gear shift id on the dash board has quit working, and we can only identify the gear that we have engaged by feel.also, we have a recurring problem with the left rear turn signal flash going bad.when this happens, the turn signal flashes at a super fast rate.both of these problems are safety issues.the gear shift problem happened while the car was stationary, the turn signal problem happened while making a left turn.

When the gas gauge registers below 1/2 tank, and the tank is refueled to capacity, ittakes several miles driving( approx. 30-50 miles) for the gauge to register full. Also, if the tank is towards the empty mark, and the car is filled to capacity, and the car is driven, the low fuel light will come on, and stay on for an extended period of time. At times, before the car is driven, the car refuses to start as if it is not getting any gas.after it sets for a while, it will start.
The contact owns a 2008 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that while reversing the vehicle, he heard an abnormal noise coming from underneath the vehicle. The contact exited the vehicle to inspect the vehicle. The contact stated that the fuel tank detached and was hanging down underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, there was no assistance provided. The failure mileage was 63,824.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury grand marquis. While driving 25 mph and entering a drive-thru lane at a bank, the contact attempted to shift the vehicle into park; however, the gear failed to shift. The contact engaged the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the gear shifter failure was also experienced in approximately 2016. The vehicle was towed to malloy ford (1911 valley avenue, winchester, va 22601, (540)-667-4434) and repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was then towed to a repair shop where it was diagnosed that the gear shifter cable failed. The gear shifter cable was replaced and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 128,000. *consumer stated the shift cable failure prevents the driver from shutting off the car and keeps it in gear and moving of the car unless the brake is depressed! transmission shift cable was replaced 2 times. Updated 11/8/18
The car will suddenly and without warning accelerate to 5000 rpm's.had throttle body and mas replaced which seemed to help. However, it still happens once in a while (once every 3 weeks average).usually happens after shifting from park to drive and driving forward at low speeds (around 5-10 mph).hasn't happened at higher speeds. Was told by one mechanic that the computer is defective???.

Passengers side seatbelt locks
The drivers side seat belt failed to latch, the buckle would not go into the receiver. We took it to lawrence hall lincoln mercury dealership where we purchased the car new. The tech. Showed us how to use a screwdriver to latch and unlatch the belt. He order the part, we took the car to the dealership and the discovered it was the wrong part. They reordered the part and discovered it was still the wrong part. They want us to keep using the screwdriver. I feel this is unsafe and if this is a problem then the dept. Should know about it. We are required to wear the belts then if the break it should not take 2 weeks to fix.

Car speeding up while braking.
Thank goodness, there wasn't an accident. Rather, i heard that you should check your emergency brake cable every 50,000 miles. However, my car is so low mileage for its age that i decided i should have the cable checked anyhow. Then, i heard that many of the aftermarket emergency cables are defective. Thankfully, my son, [xxx] , knows someone who can check the cables. We tested cables from two auto parts retail stores. One failed to hold pressure. The other cable exploded rather dramatically. Fortunately, the people my son knows make emergency cables. From outward appearance, the cable they made was definitely superior. More importantly, when they tested the cable, it held pressure without dropping at all. My son once picked up his car from an auto repair shop (about eight years ago) after having the brakes done. Apparently, the extra pressure new brake pads put on the brake lines caused one brake line to snap by the back of the car. Rich completely lost his brakes at 40 mph. Fortunately, when he used the emergency brake, it did the job. He said there was a car turning right in front of him and on-coming traffic on the left. Without a good emergency brake, his options would have been quite limited.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I was driving in town and several times when i slowed down to stop at a stop sign or corner, after braking my car accelerated by itself.the engine revved up and made the car jump forward.i had to slightly release the brake snd brake harder to stop and avoid going into the intersection.

When reversing out of driveway car accelerated on its own. Pressed brakes but car still moved backwards. Have skid marks in driveway to show for it. Threw car into neutraland turned off engine. Restarted and everything seemed normal. Drove car on trip and when reducing speed to slow down by pushing on brake car again accelerated and nearly hit another car. Again threw car into neutral and turned off engine. And again when restarting car everything seemed normal again. Wife is extremely afraid of driving car. Took car to dealer where it was purchased and was told that it may have been that i pushed the brake and gas pedal at the same time, this however, i believe is not the case. Dealership however kept the car for further investigation as to what the problem may be. Will hear in a day or two.
Brake and gas pedal to close together when applying brakes also hit gas has happened many times almost requires a conscious effort to avoid this problem.
The contact owns a 2008 mercury grand marquis.while driving 65 mph on a two lane road, the vehicle accelerated when the brake pedal was depressed.the contact rear ended the preceding vehicle.the contact was injured.the air bags failed to deploy and the seat belt did not tighten.the failure and current mileages were 17,000. Remailed 12/10/08.*lj
The vehicle accelerateds when the brake pedal is depressed. Because the brake pedal and the gas pedalheight is nearly the same height and when depressing the brake pedal you can also depress the gas pedal causing the vehicle to accelerate.the vehicle accelerates when the brake pedal was depressed.
The contact owns a 2008 mercury grand marquis. While driving approximately 35 mph the contact began to depress the brake pedal to decelerate while approaching a traffic light. The vehicle suddenly accelerated on its own and there was an increase in the rpms. The failure occurred intermittently and over time became progressively worse. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failuremileage was 63,000.updated 10/4/11 the dealer stated the brake pedal was adjusted to high, which may have interfered with the accelerator pedal. They lowered the automatic brake pedal . Updated 10/24/11

The contact owns a 2008 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated while driving various speeds, there was a complete loss of power steering without warning. The contact continued driving even though the steering wheel was very difficult to maneuver.the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer two times and they were unable to duplicate a problem. The failure became progressively worse. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
The contact owns a 2008 mercury grand marquis. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number:13v385000(steering) and stated that the parts were not available. The dealer advised that part was not available to complete the required repairs. The manufacturer was contacted and provided an unreasonable date for when the vehicle would receive the recall service.the contact had not experienced a failure.
Left home the other day i noticed that the steering had become was stiff when the wheels were straight..it wasn't bad turning till it was going straight..the next day the steering became stiff and erratic.it would work sometimes and it would be stiff...found out the lower steering shaft had frozen up..there was a recall back in 2013 doe the lower shaft with is breaking..my car was a florida car but ford supposed have fixed it because i was moving back to ny..have been back in ny for 3 1/2 years now it froze up..the recall for cars in the northern states..seeing i was moving back to ny they claimed they did the recall..it shouldn't have corroded that fast..i have no way to prove they did the recall or if they faked it..it is cleared as it had been repaired..
Vehicle was coming off of a highway exit ramp doing around 40-45 mph and in the middle of this turn the driver lost his control of his steering causing the vehicle to veer into oncoming traffic almost causing a head on collision.upon inspection of vehicle found that a sterring column shaft wich is only held in place by a plastic retainer and consist of 4 clips, 2 of the clips were broken causing the column shaft to slide apart andhave loss of steering. So far the only fix from ford is to sell you a new sterring column 7w1z-3c529-a this part is designed the same way as the old part was. This issue could cause a fatal accident, i am a mechanic with a goverment agency with many of these vehicles in our fleet. I urge you to please look into this issue and ask for a recall with these vehicles before a life is lost!

After experiencing a strange siren-like sound intermittently for a few days, especially when making a turn, i noticed on sunday that this noise was becoming louder and more frequent. After driving only about two miles i realized that something felt odd in the steering, so i immediately returned home. On monday august 24, 2015 i took the car to my mechanic for diagnosis and was told that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced; since this was a potentially very dangerous problem i agreed to have the work done immediately which entailed leaving it overnight for completion. Later in the evening i had a nagging feeling that i had heard about a similar issue, so i checked my car records and confirmed that i had taken my car to my closest mercury dealer in response to a recall #13s08 from ford motor corp. On nov. 13, 2013; the garage "inspected the steering shaft" and declared "no repairs needed at this time". I was told, however, that i would be asked to return in a few months when they had sufficient parts to address the recall fully.in march 2014 ford notified me to again contact the dealer in regard to safety recall 13s08/nhtsa recall13v385. The dealership did the recall repair on april 22, 2014 which involved "replacing the lower intermediate steering shaft". Upon investigation i learned that this is certainly in the area of my now failed rack and pinion assembly. What makes this frightening to me is that the repair was done at a mileage of 39923 and the part failed at a mileage of 44,725. When i called ford this morning to ask about any help they might give me with this or whether or not this had been a problem to other drivers i was politely told that a recall repair is a one time fix. Since the failed part occurred only 4800 miles after the repair, i think that perhaps the "fix" was not enough; this seems unfair, especially if it effects many drivers. Help?

My wife was driving and turning left at a slow speed when she heard a loud popping sound. It looks like a chunk of one of the steering column bearings fell out of the steering column.
The lower retainer slipped out (retainer tabs are cracked)of the column disconnecting the steering wheel from the lower steering shaft. Obviously could not control direction of automobile - was able to stop without an event. The new assembly 'ford part number 7w1z-3c529-a' looks to be made as the one currently in my automobile. This will allow the same scenario to happen again! i might not be so lucky the next time! i hope the replacement assembly ?ford part number 7w1z-3c529-b? corrects this problem for our law enforcement safety. Please correct this defect for the standard models. I am requesting a review and resolve by ford motor corporation paying to correct this serious defect. Thanks for attention to this matter. I have had trouble with my power steering on my 2008 mercury grand marquis. When its cold outside or when i need to make a really quick turn of the wheel it turns very hard and has caused me to almost have and accident. The car has speed sensitive power steering on it . I have owned several ford cars and trucks but this is the first steering problem i have had. I really wish i had never bought a car with this type of power steering system on it. I think that this a problem on ford cars with this type of steering system on them i have talked with several other ford car owners with the same problem and none of them have been given a real answer as to what can be done.

This is the third consecutive mercury grand marquis i've owned that has developed a peeling paintproblem (all purchased new). One instance of this i could chalk up to luck of the draw, a random defect. But three automobiles, same make, with the same problem? this defies the laws of random chance and indicates an ongoing quality control problem with these vehicles. This 2008 model mercury grand marquis was purchased new and had about 55,000 miles on the odometer when i noticed the peeling paint. There is no reason ? beyond shoddy quality control ? that this kind of paint problem should be occurring on a five-year-old car. There is even less reason ? beyond shoddy quality control ? that it should occur on three cars of the same model. Internet searches indicate this is a fairly common problem with these vehicles ? again reflecting shoddy quality control by ford. One would think, over the 10 years that this problem has occurred with my grand marquis models, that ford would have taken steps to resolve the situation. Apparently not. They haven't even bothered to respond to my letter to their customer care (?) department.

I have 5 locations where the paint is peeling off. Hood, roof and back window area.i have seen other gms and lincolns with the same peeling. The peeling areas a growing in size. Pieces of paint 1 inch sq comes off at a time.i should not have this problem on a 4 year old car. I think ford should fix the problem. I had a 1993 gm also with the same problem.but on the 93 car it started when the car was older.

Car speeding up while braking.

The contact owns a 2008 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that while using the cruise control, applying the brakes and resuming to normal the vehicle suddenly accelerated to higher speeds. The vehicle stopped after the brake pedal was applied. The vehicle was inspected by a dealer who was unable to diagnose the failure since they were unable to duplicate it. The vehicle was notrepaired. The failure mileage was approximately 4,500.
When stepping on brake, motor raced up to 5000 rpm. ( like cruise control was engaging. Had to go to neutral pump the accelerator to bring rpm down.in a parking lot with both feet on the brake it pushed me 5 feet before i could get it under control.

Update on odi number 10208094.on the day the mercury that i own was returned to the dealer to solve the safety problem, an accident occurred within 10 miles of my home. The vehicle was a late model lincoln town car. One person was pronounced dead at the hospital and the driver died a few days later. The following is a quote from the next day brevard county florida local newspaper (florida today).?the traffic circle at the intersection of wickham road and lake andrew drive was beginning to hum with the rush of friday evening traffic when a light blue sedan hit the curb and crashed through some bushes into a retention pond.??some said the car made a noise like a roaring freight train as it plunged into the water. A few said it shot off like a rocket.? end of quote.it is time some one pays attention to the seriousness this safety problem.it is almost impossible with the mercury that i have to press the brake and gas pedal at the same time. And even if you did the gas pedal would only slightly be depressed.i have searched the internet and found numerous similar incidents with ford motor company vehicles. Ford motor company should tell their dealers to stop their service departments from giving their customers bull crap and do the sensible thing of finding out what is really wrong.
False acceleration of 2008 mercury grand marquis.on oct. 9th, my wife and i and two friends (from pa and de) were in vehicle headed for dinner. Cranked vehicle after setting for approximately 22 hours. Engine revved up to an estimated 4000 rpm created loud rumbling sound and vibrated vehicle.i was too frightened to look at tachometer. Turned switch key off. Made 3 attempts to start engine. Finally removed key for approximately 10 to 15 seconds, car started and seemed normal. Problem has not reoccurred, however my wife will not drive vehicle.frankly all four people in car had a '!@#$% frightening.this took place in oak ridge tn. On oct. 9, 2007. Oct.10 drove vehicle to lincoln-mercury dealer in oak ridge. They stated that if the engine service light did not come on, they would not be able to find any problem. On oct. 19 vehicle was taken to island lincoln/mercury dealer in merritt island fl. (vehicle was purchased there.) service manager drove vehicle on test drive and told me in a nice manner that i must have had my foot on the brakes and gas pedal at same time. Not true. I have tested starting this vehicle several times with one foot on brake and other foot on gas pedal. Engine revs up normally, no rumbling what so ever. The rumbling caused me to believe that some cylinders were not firing during this event.dealer did not make any attempt to find or duplicate problem.names of telephones numbers of other passengers are available.
