I own a 2005 mercury grand marquis gs original owner with 37,700 miles on the odometer.a week ago my drivers side air bag warning light came on when i started the car and it remains on while driving. After checking with one of my mechanics, i was told the air bag will not deploy if i am in a front end collision.i think this is the same problem others 2005 mercury grand marquis' have had with the drivers side seat belt pre-tensioner, and think it will needs to be replaced.i will be contacting my lincoln(formerly mercury) dealership on bell road in phoenix, az, to take it in for repairs.while i have never had a accident with the car, i can't take the chance that me or my wife will not have the air bag deploy in the case of a front end collision.i purchased the auto in december, 2004, and am the original owner with only 37,700 miles on the car. Hello, i own a 2005 mercury grand marquis and have been experiencing an apparent problem with the air bag / seatbelt system. There is a light that is on that says airbag. I had it checked out by my local mechanic who said it was likely a seatbelt tensioner per the code in the computer. After doing some research online, i discovered that there were pages of people with similar problems. A working replacement could not be installed as these parts are numbered to the car and have to be repaired and reprogrammed. Dealers have quoted over $500+ for the repair, per my research. Given the amount of people just on the forums, for many years and mileages of this car, just for this problem. There is an apparent problem with ford's s q.c. From the start. If they are going to install a safety system it ought not become a liability, as i don't know if it will save me or injure me much less if the seat belts will work in an emergency! your feedback is appreciated. If i have reached the wrong dept. In errata could you either forward this to the right party or let me know who to contact. Again there are numerous complaints online about these vehicles. I have experienced ford not including on the recall list, models that have had recall problems before. Please help.thank you kindly [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the front passenger's side seat belt pre-tensioner was replaced.the failure recurred one year later, which would require the front driver's side seat pre-tensioner to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect and they informed the contact that the steering wheel air bag may not deploy sufficiently in the event of a crash unless the repair was performed. The approximate failure mileage was 94,300....updated 11-12-13 the consumer stated the function of the seat belt was not impaired by the failure of the pre-tensioner. Air bag light came on, blinked three times then four times; it will do this 2-3 times then remain lit.no code pulled from standard code scanner.i see numerous complaints on 2005 mercury grand marquis for this very same problem.this should be a recall; it is a safety issue that should be addressed asap.

Both air bag lights have stayed lighted four months apart.replacement was a complete (usingford motor co parts) uniton driver-side inmay 2014.now(sept 9,2014) the passenger side unit needs replacement at a cost of $700.00 for each side.the state of virginia inspection process requires replacement for the vehicle to pass.i'm told the air bag is in-operative when the light is onthis a safety issue.

Airbag warning light illuminated. Diagnosis indicated seat belt pre-tensioner was defective. Since airbag would not deloy in this condition, it was replaced, costing $513.00.internet search shows numerous complaints.safety recall is warranted.

The seat belt light came on and would not go offhad extened warranty but it did not cover the price to fix the seat belt which was defective was 900.00 ''' live on a fixed income and could not afford this price also the head light recall recieved a letter but never heard another thing on the head light my concern is the seat belt

Air bag light came on when car started. Did not go off. New driver side seat belt assembly installed 8/06/2005. Aug 11, air bag light came on & stayed on.

Dashboardl light is on told it was an airbag problem

The seat belt lite started flashing then went out and now the alarm goes off and rings 5 timesand does it 5 times it does this when you start the car

Car failed safety inspection due air bag warning light on.diagnosis indicated that the driver's seat belt pretensioner had failed, and air bag would not inflate in a crash. The pretensioner had to be replaced. This seemed like a premature failure, as the car has only 47924 miles. The service desk person at the dealer said that this was very common in mercury grand marquis.i did some checking on the internet and found that he was correct, according to all of the reports exactly like mine. In virginia a car fails for this light being on. I'm not sure about other states.in view of the frequency of this problem, i feel there should be a recall.

Air bag light illuminated. Dealer said the passenger side seat belt pretensioner needed to be replaced at a cost of 500.00+. He mentioned that this was a chronic problem with 2005 grand marquis vehicles. He also mentioned that when the air bag light was illuminated and that the air bag system would not function. I also did an internet search and found that this is indeed a chronic problem with ford vehicles in general for 2005 model vehicles. I hope to see this issue addressed by a recall as i cannot afford to pay to have it repaired. This vehicle was purchased new and has 32416 miles and has never been involved in an accident.

The air bag warning light comes on, blinks the code 34 two times then stays on. After researching i find that numerous 2005 mercury grand marquis have had the same problem. This is something that needs to be fixed by ford. I have had more problems with this model than i have ever had with any other car. I have had to replace the a/c - heating system, front light system (after tons of complaints by other people ford finally recalled and fixed the problem. Why do you wait? if one person complains, much less numerous others it should be fixed by ford due to faulty parts. Of course now i will have to have it fixed and it is expensive! i use to have all the faith in the world in ford but no more. You buy parts not made in america and this is the result and of course you don't put the parts where they can be easily accessible so the owner can repair it themselves and the dealerships charge astronomical fees to fix it.wonder how long before ford acknowledges and recalls or at least fixes the problem when someone takes in the car.

Air bag light stays on.ford dealer says $1,300 repairs needed.

Air bag dash light started to flash several times and then remained illuminated steadily after a few days. Dealership conducted diagnostic scan, which revealed problem with both driver and passenger pretensioners, needing replacing. Their estimate was approx. $1,500.00. From what we've researched, there appear to be numerous incidents of this nature. There should be a full investigation with possible recall. Cannot afford this repair!!

The seat belt warning air bag light came on and won't go off. It happen back in aug 2011 at 40,598 miles now two years later at 53,631 same probelm again. I filed a complaint then and now once again , when are you people going to make ford fix these cars right. If you look at all the complaints filed concerning the seat belt probelm it would seem to me that you are doing absoulety nothing except letting these car manufactures give us consumer a bunch of bs and charge us and arm and leg to fix some thing that shouldn't be failing that soon. I mean come on in 13,000 miles and it fails again. It will cost me another $450.00 to fix the same probelm and if i don't the air bag system will not work so where does that leave me???

Air bag light comes on and blinks a few times and then stays on when starting car. Light stays on all the time.

I started my vehicle, the air bag light on the dash flashes three times, then another three times, than stays on solid.i took my car to the local ford dealership and they diagnosed that both driver and passenger seat belt pre-tensioners are shorted out and need to be replaced at a cost of $1608. They told me my air bags will not deploy due to this malfunction.i called ford motor co and they said there are no plans to issue a recall over this problem. They did give me a claim number and told me that if i get it repaired at a ford dealership, and there ever is a recall, they will consider reimbursement.a quick search on the internet indicates that this is a fairly common problem with the 2005 grand marquis. Given that the air bags will not deploy in an accident, how is this not subject to a safety recall?

Started car and the air bag started flashing then stayed on. This same problem reoccurs every time i start the car.

Takata recallairbag light comes on and flashes

My 2005 mercury grand marquis airbag light is on. Dealership claims the airbags will not deploy due to a malfunctioning seatbelt pretensioner. Repair/replacement will cost $1800 to do both passenger and driver. Car only has 29,250 miles on it. I have found where this seems to be an ongoing problem with this model. Also, saw where this issue has caused airbags not to deploy in a collision. Some have reported the problem reoccurring after repair. This is a bad design by mercury and a huge safety concern that should have been issued a recall!

This started out with lights and windshield wipers cutting off and on with no apparent wearing. Also burning smell. Took it in got that fixed. I was informed this had occurred in others same exact thing. Right after that next thing was dash lights for abs, airbag, and anti skid stay on. I took it to 2 places. Was told it was a module unit by one place the other couldn't find a reason. I have not had it fixed since i couldn't get a clear reason for it, also the car runs fine. The lights must mean something. I'm going to sell it but need to get as much a possible for it and this will take away from thebuying price. Need to fix but was told the module unit repair seems strange. Please help any advice would be helpful. Thank you

I was driving along when my tire blew out.thecar spun into traffic and hit a wall and guard rail but did not hit anycars.my whole front end was smashed in and long the one side ofthe car scrapped up. 2005 mercury grand marquis.consumer writes in regards to vehicle airbag light illuminated.the dealer informed the consumer, the air bag module needed to be replaced.

My daughter and i were rear ended and our 2005 mercury grand marquis gs airbags never deployed in spite of being hit three times by a delivery driver with a box truck at the intersection of pembroke and dixie highway in hollywood. I just learned on national tv that ford obtained fake airbags from suppliers in china. If this is or isn't true, should ford compensate us in some way?

Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle's airbags did not deploy after colliding head on with another vehicle.the contact approached a traffic light at 30 mph to turn left when another vehicle ran the red light and caused the collision.the air bags did not deploy and injuries were sustained.the police was contacted and a report was taken.the vehicle was towed to the dealer who offered no explanation as to why the air bags did not deploy.updated 08/29/06.

While driving at night, my headlights without warning, extinguished. I turned the 'high beams' on and they also failed to light. I stopped and after a few minutes, the lights came back on. I searched the internet and found that many ford crown victoria / mercury grand marquis(multiple model year) automobiles are suffering from the same problem. It is apparently a failure in the 'lighting control module' (lcm). There are many web sites that offer re-manufactured lcm's but i question why this is not a safety recall? i think that losing your headlights while driving at night would somehow qualify as a safety hazard and this should be the manufacturer's responsibility to fix this problem.

My 2005 mercury grand marquis has automatic headlights which switch off leaving you driving in the dark.this has happened several times and when it does happen the lights do not work on manual and won't reset for several minutes.i am told through several forums that this is a lighting control module problem that ford motor company is well aware of.i am also told the repair without additional cost of diagnosis and installation runs between $400 & $600 dollars.i feel this is a serious safety issue that ford motor company is ignoring.

It was approx. 2:30am [night time] and i was driving on a rural state highway @ 65mph with the cruise control set. The headlights on my 2005 mercury grand marquis suddely went out. The switch was set to automatic on / off. Visibility instantly became zero in the pitch black.. As i was 20 miles outside of town on a state highway in an unpopulated area with no lighting.. Not even moon light. I slammed on my breaks running off the roadway into the drainage ditch.. Taking over 100 feet to stop. After gaining my composure, i noticed that my dashlights were still working along with my yellow warning lights. I tried the headlights switch by changing it from off, to full on- to auto... With no success at first. But after 3-4 minutes the lights suddenly came back on and worked in both the auto & in the switched 'on' positions for 20-30 seconds and then shut off. So i knew the problem wasn't with a blown fuse. This continued to be the cycle.. The headlights would come on for 20-30 seconds and then shut off for several minutes before working again. By pulling the turn control / high beam lever toward me, i was able to get the passing light setting of my headlights to work and was able to drive back home... But this created a danger to vehicles i met.. As it blinded them. I couldn't turn off the bright passing beam without going dark on the roadway. Next morning i checked the internet about this problem and discovered that 1000's of other mercury grand marquis owners have had this same problem.. That mercury has known about this problem for years... With similar problems prior to 2005. Not only has mercury knowingly endangered my and the other owners [and their faimlies] lives.. Mercury has created a very profitable income charging its customers close to $700 for a repair that they know is the result of a faulty factory installed headlight control module. This rates a recall!

Jan 19, 2016, letter said i would be notified as soon as corrective part became available.this has been over 6 1/2 months.as i'm planning on taking an extended trip, much of it at night, in the near future, i'm concerned my headlights will suddenly go out.please goad them to get on the ball and provide a repair.

I purchased a 05 mercury grand marquis and had issues with the headlights going out while driving at night. I seen that there was a recall on this issue for my vehicle but when i called the ford dealer they said my car wasn't registered for a recall. They said i would have to pay $135 for a diagnostic test and leave my car for 24 hours. No one was able to inform me why my specific vehicle was excluded from the recall. If i'm telling them that i'm having a problem that they clearly know about why are they charging me to fix it?

We had just left a funeral home and driving back home on a 4 lane road. We turned to avoid getting on the highway immediately and decided to take another route. As we were heading up this 2 lane road that was dark all of a sudden our headlights and instrument panel lights went out and cars coming at us were flashing their lights. I slowed down and was able to pull over to a side street. Sat there trying to determine why the lights were out. Turned the switch from the on position to the automatic position and the lights came back on. We drove all the way home on back roads to avoid getting on the interstate, not knowing if the lights would go out or not. Read the manual to see if we had missed anything and then got on the internet and saw the hundreds of people having the same thing happen to them. I will contact the dealer and see about fixing it but from what i have read, the light control module is bad and so are the replacements. I am hopeful that there is a newer improved model that is now being used. Thank god we were not on the highway or we could have been killed. This is a serious problem.

Started vehicle to move it in my driveway.put it in drive and throttle stuck open and vehicle slammed my garage corner.tried putting it in park and it went into reverse (brake override did not work) instead and crossed street, went across neighbors landscaping stones and slammed into the house next door's front porch at which time the ignition shut down and the car came to a stop.many thousands of dollars in damages to all three homes.

Upon starting up 2005 mercury marquis (~24000 miles) and placing car into drive, car accelerated at a high rate of speed and crashed into a gas station pump.the car accelerator malfunctioned and was in a "jammed state". The driver immediately put right foot then both feet on brake trying to get the vehicle to stop.the car would not slow much less stop.driver suffered very serious eye injury and currently has no sight in injured left eye.there is the risk of losing left eye.passenger suffered fractured sternum and other bruising.both driver and passenger are traumatized from this car accelerator malfunction.

My head lights started giving me this problems on april 1 2014they won't stay on so i have to hold my high beam switch so i can drive using my high beams sometimes my headlights do cone on but very rarely i have read blogs and i'm not the only one having this problems.

Heater/ac damper control actuator is not working.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that while traveling 70 mph the head lights failed without warning. The contact had to use the hazard lights for illumination of the roadway. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The contact stated that he was a certified mechanic and believed that the lighting control module was the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure and the current mileage was 71,000.

While driving the headlights went completely out. The high beams would only come on if you pulled the lever forward and this was only momentarily. Was not able to use the switch to turn them back on. Had to pull over in a parking lot because it was dark. After a few minutes the lights started to work again but soon failed again.

Automatic controls for air conditioning/heat defective in many, many cars.mercury grand marquis 2005.serviceman tells us that there should be a recall for this item as this is a major issue nationwide!

The headlights of my 2005 mercury grand marquis suddenly went off and the only way to continue traveling was to hold the high beam flash lever. According to ford it is the automatic headlight controller and it cost 900 to repair. I almost crashed during a rain storm when the lights suddenly went off and unable to get them to come back on. Driving with high beams on is dangerous and having to hold the flash lever while driving causes a safety issue as well.

While driving the vehicle, suddenly the headlights went out. I parked for a while, then i turned it on and the lights came on. Now the lights go off sometimes, while driving ,and i have to hold the lever back towards me, to have the high beams on until i reach my destination. This is very unsafe. Idon't really drive as much at nite, and i come home early, before it is dark. Thank you.

Back in june of this year, our low beam headlights stopped working and our dealership said it would cost over $700 to fix the problem on our 2005 mercury grand marquis gs sedan. I have been out of full time work since december 2008 and i don't have the money to get it repaired. Is there any other complaints against ford for this problem?

2005 merc., head lights go off or don't come on for a mile or two.switch on manual or auto.dealer had car for two days, said all checked ok.

I have a 2005 mercury grand marquis. I was driving and suddenly my headlights went out without warning. This is a very scaring situation at night. I have been looking online to see if there has been a recall, and also i took it to the ford dealer where i purchased the vehicle and they told me it was a electrical module and the cost is enormous. I don't think that me the consumer should have to bear the cost of a defect that is such a safety hazard. Why haven't this matter been recalled?someone could lose their life, traveling down a dark two lane highway and suddenly you have no lights. This is very frightening. And what's more frightening is that nothing is being done about. But i will not stop until i see something done.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6)i would like to report a serious safety issue with my 2005 mercury marquis. The headlights go off after a few minutes. They will not come back on for at least 30 minutes. This is when the light switch is turned on. The other lights stay on (parking and taillights), but the headlights go off. I did a google search on this situation today, and learned that this is occurring on several year models of mercury grand marquis and ford victorias. The problem is described on the internet as a faulty circuit board in the lcm (light control module). I took my mercury to a ford/mercury dealer today for a diagnostic test, which confirmed: "diag pin test isolated to erratic relay internal to lcm modu" to replace this part, i was quoted almost $800 by the dealer, installed (part price is $511). I called ford/mercury customer service today, 800-241-3673, and learned that there have been no recalls (tel. Call ref. [xxx]). The ford representative gave me your website.this is a very serious problem, to be driving and have headlights suddenly go off, and remain off. It started approximately feb. 15 and continues to present.

While driving at night the headlights will go out and would not come back on for a few min. Then they will work for a little while and go out again. This is very dangerous when the headlights go out in the dark or during rainstorms.

As i was driving at night, my vehicle's low and high beams (lights) suddenly cut off. Unexpectedly, the road i was traveling became very dark because i live in rural areas in west virginia.unfortunately,a second later, my car ran over a small boulder on the side on the road causing a damage (small cracks) at the bottom right hand side of my bumper.nevertheless, i put the emergency lights on until i returned home right away. Earlier this week, i used the car again without any lights issues. However a day later, the issue returned again. This time i was traveling in the highway at 60 miles per hour.all low/high beam lights cut off. My only solution was to hold the "flash to pass" lever towards me, and the high beam lights would turn on. However, it is extremely cumbersome driving this way. I've been told by many mechanics that the main culprit is the lighting control module (lcm) and this safety issue has become extremely common in grand marquis especially 2005 models. Consumers and perhaps the government may need to further intervene, so ford can do something about this safety/hazardous.in my case, my bottom bumper suffered, but it could have been worse - it could easily cause an accident at any given time.currently, i only use my vehicle during the daylight hours.i've been told that repairs can exceed $700 or more and in some instances, the issue returns within a few months after replacing this part.this electrical issue should perhaps be further investigated as the lcm could be the main culprit, but something else could also be triggering the lcm to fail. Thank you greatly!

Previously shows an open recall from dec. 2016 for cracking solder on headlights going into the circuit board. Needs a solution to correct safety issue.

Similar to events as published in nhtsa action number pe08066, i was driving on the interstate at night and the headlights suddenly went dark.no warning, just went out. Pulled off onto shoulder and could not avoid sliding off the road - very dangerous. Finally figured out if you pull the turn signal lever all the way towards you it will turn the bright headlights on, but you have to hold it on position .. If you let go the headlights go back out.the problem is intermittent and appears without warning.1000's of complaints about this same issue all over the internet - so i can't believe the agency closed the original investigation??what could be more dangerous than losing your headlights at night??there should be an immediate recall from ford motor co. On this issue!my local ford dealer and communications to ford motor co. Have produced no help.this is approximately a $700 repair at the dealership for a proven defective "lighting control module".this is a "safety-related" issue if there ever was one!

In the last two weeks when putting turn signal on the headlights go out.

Driving home on highway at approximately 65 mph. Heard a click sound but did not relate it to lights immediately. It was just approaching twilight. I guess we did not immediately notice the lights as there was still some daylight. Next night driving in town after dark and the lights went out, just sudden darkness.we were on business hwy 23 going over the overpass in town and were able to get off on a side street and limp home hoping that we would not get stopped and cited. This is my vehicle that i use for my work. I now have to schedule my work around daylight hours as we can not find the light module to replace mine. This is a horrible danger to myself, my family and other drivers as well. We have called multiple places to find the module and they all say they can not get them. The most frightening of all, we have never been sent a recall notice on this. We are going to try a garage that services all the state patrol and police cars in this part of wisconsin. There are still some of the mercury's out there in service. I suspect they will surely supply them with the modules. Hope to find one there so i can resume normal work hours and not have to schedule daylight only work meetings. I have loved this car for 8 years. Would hate to have to give it up for something like this but the fact that mercury does not respond is upsetting to say the least.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. While driving the exterior lights intermittently failed. As a consequence, his visibility was impaired. He was in the process of taking the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. The vehicle identification number was available. The failure and current mileages were 65,000.updated 11/10/09 the lighting control module was replaced. The dealer stated it was bad. Updated 11/13/09.

Lights went off while driving at night.

High and low beam headlights failed while driving at high speed on dark 2 lane highway in upstate ny.fumbled with light controls until by random chance discovered that by holding "flash to pass" stalk back, high beams could be activated.made it home steering with the right hand and holding flash to pass with left, blinding oncoming drivers with the high beams all the way.this is an intermittent problem in the lighting control module (lcm)that can sometimes be cured by kicking the lcm, which is located under the dashboard above the accelerator pedal.hard to do at night, on a dark road, at high speed, in traffic, while holding the flash to pass stalk with the left hand and steering with the right hand.this intermittentlight failure occurred again the week of may 25, 2014.this vehicle should not be driven at night and should be recalled immediately before someone gets killed.

My headlights will not come on at times or just come on for a couple of minutes and then they gone. I have gotten so many tickets for driving with my high beams and it's seem like the manufacturer don't care at all.

I purchased the vehicle as a used vehicle with 42900 miles.the vehicle has no history of an accident on the carfax report.the airbag light came on and the repair ended up costing over $1000 because new sensors had to be installed for the seat belt assemblies.the automobile mechanic said this is common for 2005 ford automobiles.why hasn't ford issued a recall to correct the problem?

The headlights will suddenly go off and won't come back on. Eventually, the lights will come back only to go off again. I searched the internet and found numerous instances of this happening to this make and model yet, there is no recall.

Headlights go out or sometimes will not come on. Lighting control module relay intermitten. Lights go out with no warning while driving. High beams and cornering lights also inop when acting up.getting worse with time. This is a serious safty issue as it happens on freways, highways etc. We have to tap the lcm in order to get the lights back on but they go out again. This is a very expensive fix ($800) so i cant afford to have replaced. Please this should be a recall.

Headlights stopped working. Entire lighting control model had to be replaced.the cost of the work at the dealer was $708.47.

I was returning home with my wife from a trip to charleston, sc, at about 10:00 pm, driving at 60 mph, when my headlights suddenly shut off. That happens in the vicinity of awendaw and there are no street lights in the area. Both my wife and i screamed in panic while i was trying to slow down the car and staying in my lane on the highway. I was thankful that the turn signals, marker lights and brake lights still worked, so any other cars would be able to see me. When i finally pulled up the side of the road without any mishaps, i inspected the car and found out that all the fuses were good. I then restarted the car and still did not get my headlights to come on. I played with the turn signal/ low beam/high beam lever and got the flashing high beam position to work, so i drove home to myrtle beach holding the flashing high beam lever up to light my way. Otherwise, i would have to hire a taxi, spend the night in the nearest hotel to wait for daylight to resume my trip home. Apparently, the problem with the headlights shutting off without warning while driving at night comes from the lighting control module installed the2005 mercury grand marquis that malfunctions when the cars reached an average mileage of 69,000 miles (some as early as 30,000 miles, up to 114,000 miles documented).

The lights went out while driving in the city at night. I pulled over and played with the light switch until theycame back on. I had trouble with the lights several times, before i replaced the light switch on 01/04/12.on a trip to the store tonight, the lights went out again. After checking on the internet, it seems it must be the lcm module, at a cost of $700, to $900. Dollars. It seems this is a very dangerous problem withford motor co, vehicles.

Description of the complaint: lcm known defect:both headlights failed, in both dim and high-beam positions. They will not come on in either the automatic or manual dashboard switch positions. (the bulbs are still good.) the parking lights, turn signals, tail lights, and brake lights continued to function. This happened at night. It should be obvious that this failure will *always* occur at night, or during stormy weather, threatening safety, because headlights are not normally used during the daytime. Later testing revealed the problem to be intermittent. At one point, the automatic dashboard switch position worked for both dim and high-beams, but the manual switch position did not work. The next morning, both the automatic and manual positions worked. When the problem first occurred, neither position would work. This intermittent problem is consistent with a large number of complaints and reports for the 2003-2005 model years, and the problem is the lighting control module. This module is so unreliable that it has been named the "lights out module" on the internet. A sampling of complaints can be found at these web sites: http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2003/ford/crown_victoria/exterior_lighting/problem.aspx http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2004/ford/crown_victoria/exterior_lighting/problem.aspx http://www.arfc.org/complaints/2005/ford/crown_victoria/exterior_lighting/problem.aspx. This is a *safety* issue. Lives are at stake. Please force a recall to correct this problem before innocent people are killed. Although the parking lights and tail lights continued to work, so other drivers can see the car with the failed headlights, the driver of the car with the failed headlights *cannot* see where he is going!! he could run into a parked car, hit a pedestrian, hit a bicyclist, hit a tree or other obstruction, etc. This is a very dangerous situation!

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. After the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 15v861000 (exterior lighting), the tail lights failed to operate when the headlights were turned from "automatic" to "on". The headlights worked, but the tail lights did not unless the brakes were being applied. Leon riley ford in benton, ky (99 main st.) was notified and contacted the manufacturer about payment for the repairs. The manufacturer stated that nothing could be done. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

The headlights turn off randomly. The running lights stay on but the normal headlights will go off randomly and then come back on several to tens of minutes later. I can hear a clicking sound when the lights do go off and back on. When the lights do go off, i can hold the high beams on if i hold the stick toward me. Sometimes initiating a turn signal will cause the headlights to come back on.

June 10 while driving 65 miles per hour my lights failed.i was fortunate there was no accident.took car to ford dealership and was advised it was the light module.dealership advised that ford acknowledged this was a faulty part and the warranty on said part had been extended for 15 years.the local dealership ordered the part 45 days ago but has not been received.i personally called ford's customer service several times but ford still cannot give me an estimated date the part will be received.this same dealership has worked on my car several times but no one mentioned the defective module.this could easily lead toe death and destruction. Your help in resolving this matter would be appreciated.my case #with ford is [xxx] i ran google search and this is a very serious problem and many people are not aware of it. My wife was driving our 2005 mercury grand marquis after dark and the lowbeam headlamps went out. Fortunately she was close to her destination and was able to navigate with the street lights. I don't want to think what may have happened on the interstate had she been heading home. Everything checks out fine except for the light control module. Dealership says this is a common problem and will cost about $500 for the part and $200 labor. We currently do not drive this car at night until we have enough money saved to get the repairs done. Someone is going to die because of this (if it already hasn't happened - we were fortunate).

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. The contact received a notice for a manufacturer's recall and was informed that the part could not be replaced if he was not experiencing a failure but felt that it should be replaced before a failure occurred. 2005 mercury grand marquis caught fire. Consumer states the engine ignited the fire when she turned into a parking lot. She stated that there was no apparent reason for the fire.the consumer was informed the fire was due to an electrical defect.

Lighting control module intermittently not working. Not reliable for evening travel. Part on back order from ford dealer with no estimated delivery date - i was told anytime from 1 week up to one month. Will need to rent a vehicle. What compensation for car rental do you offer due to the fact there is no estimated delivery date for this part?

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that the climate control dial failed and as a result he was unable to adjust the temperature in the vehicle and the direction he wanted the air to be directed too. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the heater box needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 39,000 and the current mileage was 58,000. ..updated 02-28-14updated 03/14/2014

Headlights went out. I received a notice from ford in april of 2014 there was an electrical/lights problem and they would repair if owner actually had this problem. I had no problem until oct 2014. Went to my dealer quick lane/ford in topeka, ks. They reported that part has been on back order since may of 2014. Contact another ford dealer who reported same. Light have regularly gone off since that time. What is a reasonable time to expect that they would have correct parts to replace as neither dealer had any report as to when part might come. Headlight failure while driving at night.

While driving my 2005,mercury,grand marquis, at night, the headlights completely went out on me...making visibility impossible...after much research on this problem,i find that alot of people are complaining of the very same problem with their mercury, grand marquis...after reading of all the complaints about this problem,i wonder why this has not been on the recall list......this is a severe safety issue!!!thank you for your prompt attention in this matter.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. The contact received a recall repair from a dealer (court street ford, 558 william r latham senior dr, bourbonnais, il 60914, (815) 939-9600) for nhtsa campaign number: 15v861000 (exterior lighting). Sixmonths after the repair, the lights failed to function for the low beams, high beams, and day time running lights intermittently. The dealer was informed several times, but they were unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. The contact felt as if the remedy failed to provide a solution. The dealer indicated that the part needed to be replaced again. The vehicle was serviced by an independent mechanic to replace the part. The manufacturer was notified that the remedy for the recall failed to provide a solution and also indicated that the part still needed to be replaced after the repair. The failure mileage was not available.

The low beam headlights failed while driving at various speeds without warning. I was forced to drive with the high beams illuminated. This happens very frequently. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. I called the dealer. They said it was not covered under warranty. He said the part would be about $600, and with labor all cost would run about $800!the vehicle was not repaired the current mileage was 71,100. Remanufactured lcm is about $300 or new about $500 from an independent auto parts store.

This not my vehicle.this is a vehicle i found for sale on autotrader.

My wife and i were pulling into a four lane highway at 9:30 pm in the evening, after finishing dinner.once we had approached highway speed of about 45 to 50 mph, our front head lights went out. Immediately my wife pulled off the highway with our lights out, i got out of the auto to insure the lights had indeed gone out...yes, they were out black as midnight. I asked my wife to see if they would come back just for the heck of trying something. Yes the lights did come back on and remained on for the remainder of our 25 minute drive. As my wife and i were driving home, she indicated to me this was not the first time, only one of several times as she was driving, it might be in the rain day or night, she never knew when it would happen, however at this time, the lights seem to go out on a regular basic.i'm going to see if the dealer can repair, what i have been lead to believe is the lcm, and to expect a charge up to $800.00+, this is a horrible accident waiting to occur, and a expense that i think merc. Show absorb, with all of the problems with the same problem for several years now, i would hope a nation wide recall should take place, before the is loss of life.i thank you for your time, and i do appreciate any help you may be able to offer.kind regards, owner of the above auto, 2005 merc. Grand marq. Light control module, problem.

Cannot shut lights off when i shut off the car. When i turn them on the sometimes work and sometimes don't. Riding down the hwy they just go off. I have been stopped by the police. Drivers window works sometimes and does nor at other times. Buttons for the passenger seat also works whenever it wants to.

I was driving along on a back country road with no moon or visible lights of any kind at 55mph when i lost all headlights, low beam and high beam did not work.

I was driving home and my headlights cut off with no warning at night, they came on again for a min., but cut off this has happened 4 times since. I have to hold my bright switch down for a 30 min drive home. I have had a fuses checked, after looking on line it looks like several people have had this same issue, this is scary, considering i have 3 children.

2005 mercury grand marquis.consumer writes in regards to the lighting control module issues.the consumer stated failure of the lighting control module, cause the headlights to go out without warning. The only way to turn them back on, was to reach under the dashboard and tap the affected module whichworked sometimes and sometimes it didn't. The part was ordered on november 6, 2014. However, the dealer had no idea when the ship would be for the part.

I drive on the highway from to work. During the winter months, it is dark at 6 am. This morning, as i usually do, the light switch was on and it was on low beams. Suddenly, the headlights went out. I pulled over and stopped. The side markers and the parking lights were on. I sat for a few minutes to decide how to get home with no lights. Then the headlights came back on. I took a chance, they remained on, that day. It would occur periodically then daily, sometimes two (2) to three (3) times on the drive to work.

Vehicle at times with my foot on the brake pedal, just starts to accelerate for no reason when i stop a light or in traffic.

Neither the air conditioner nor the cruise has worked since 46,000 miles. It needs a new air compressor which would cost over $1,000 and there are several other complaints for this issue plastered all over the internet.

I was traveling on northfield road in bedford heights ohio and turned right on to the drive way that leads to walmart. The steering wheel snapped completely loose spinning around. I lost control of the steering and the car crashed into a curb before i could apply the brakes. This occurredapproximately an hour after i picked up my car from liberty ford dealership for repairs done in response to recall number 13s08 - steering column shaft and customer satisfaction program number - 14n01. (lighting control module).

2005 grand marquis - headlights go off when driving. You hear a click and sometimes they come back on and sometimes they don't. Extremely dangerous to be driving down the road in the dark and to have your headlights go out. The ford dealership advised me that it was the lighting control module that was bad. They charged me $143.75 to tell me this, then they wanted another $930.00 to replace it. Even though i have an extended warranty, i was advised that this particular module is not covered. I am now only driving this vehicle in the day time.

Head lamps go out or fail to come on.

At approximately 11:00 pm on 3/24/12, i suddenly lost my headlights as i was driving south through north carolina on interstate-95.i pulled into a rest area, and after a few minutes, my headlights came back on when i restarted the car.i drove for a few more hours without further incident.at approximately 8:00 pm on 3/25/12, i lost my headlights again while driving through florida.fortunately, i was only a few miles away from my motel when the incident occurred.the next morning, 3/26/12, i took my car to an independently-owned garage, and the mechanic diagnosed the problem as a defective light control module.he was able to obtain a new module from a nearby ford dealership and successfully install the module into my car.there is no question the light control module was defective because the mechanic was unable to restore my headlights by first trying to replace the headlight switch or the headlight dimmer switch.what's more, he was unable to get the defective light control module to respond to an external computer command.the repair cost $816.77.i was concerned that i suddenly lost my headlights while driving on a busy interstate highway, but even more concerned when i heard a parts specialist at the ford dealership that provided my new replacement light control module claim his dealership was replacing an average of three of these modules weekly on ford crown victoria patrol cars being driven by local police.the idea of policeman losing their headlights during high speed pursuits at night made me very concerned.my concern was heightened when i started investigating the matter on the internet and read many stories similar to mine.a number of these stories suggested that ford has known about these defective light control modules for quite some time and that a recall has long been in order.thank you for your attention to this serious matter.

While traveling at night on the interstate, the head lights on our 2005 mercury grand marquis quit working and we had to pull over in the emergency stopping lane.all hazard, marker lights and dash lights continued to work.after spending a few minutes on the side of the road, the head lights began to work again and we made it to our destination.i thought i might have touched something wrong at the time as i do not drive this car very often (or that maybe too much light had flashed on the light sensor on the dash and made them go out.)this is my wife's car and she uses it mostly during daytime.the car is not driven very often at night and so it was a quite a while before this happen again. It is now happening more often and after talking to others, it appears that this is much more common on grand marquis, crown vics, and towncars than i would have ever thought.i believe that this is a design defect of ford's lighting control module (lcm) part# 7z-13c788-aa and ford should have recalled and replaced these defective lcm's long before now.we have never been contacted by ford about a recall and i could not find any information about a lcm recall on ford's or any other website.since it looks like ford is not interested in my safety, i have placed an order to purchase ford's improved replacement lcm for my car.i really don't think i should have had to pay for this item to replace their obvious defective component.if ford didn't think they had a defective product, they would not have made several improvements on their lcm and re-classified it as 7z-13c788-ac instead of -aa.

2005 mercury grand marquis the horn does not work i took it to rolling hills ford in clermont floria and it still does not work

Failed lamp control module, headlights fail to work, only high beams work when lever is held in flash position. Ford issued an extended warranty program 14no1 in the spring of 2104 for just this part for 15 years or 250,000 miles. No replacement parts are available in the usa. The dealer says they have a waiting list that goes back six months. Have talked to regional managers in dearborn, mich. All say they have no idea of a shipping date, much less a delivery date, from supplier. Won't indicate how many vehicles are effected, but has to be many due to extended warranty program. Their solution is if the lights don't come on or go out while driving is to hit under the dash to the right of the steering column and they should come on. This means there are cars on the road that people are driving during daylight hours knowing that their cars headlights are not working correctly, but no parts available from ford to honor warranty. This means that cars are being used that may not be legal to drive in the rain (most states have headlight on if raining law) and also will not pass state inspection. I understand that parts are not always readily available, but should be available in several days. If this is a known problem, why are there no parts? no other help or loaner vehicle program is available.

Dt*:the contact stated while exiting the vehicle, the occupants get shocked by static electricity from the door.the dealership suggested fabric softener be sprayed in the vehicle, but this has not remedied the problem.

I was driving on i-81 at night, i operated my left turn signal while accelerating to about 75 mph to pass a truck and my headlights went out.i accidently forced the high beam on by flipping the turn/high beam lever and i held the lever in that position until i could return to the right lane behind the truck and stop on the roadside.to say i thought i was going to die is not simply drama.the worst part was not knowing if my brake lights were working.while off the road, i could not duplicate the failure.i put on the low beam and proceeded on i-81.after some miles, i again tried the left turn signal and again the lights went out.this time i was ready, and used the high beam lever to get to the roadside.again i could not duplicate the failure.i exited as soon as possible, running on low beam, and the lights went out again on the ramp when i operated the left turn signal.i continued to ocala by way of atlanta, running in daylight only.i took the car to ocala ford as soon as i arrived in ocala.the dealer had the car several days and finally duplicated the failure.they replaced a module at the cost of $786.00 and said the car was safe to drive. No repair was done to the turn signal.i got the module from the dealer and sent it to nhtsa for testing to determine if it actually was defective. If not, then my car presents a risk to everyone sharing the highway with me at night, because the problem would still be there.in my opinion, sudden and catastrophic failure such as this presents fatal risk to anyone involved in a crash, including the general public.this failure has nothing to do with reasonable wear and tear, it is a design/manufacturing defect, worsened by a failure by ford to provide a diagnostic program.since the problem is intermittent, people may have already died and no trace of the failure would be found by examining the wreck. Two problems with the horn since i purchased my car in dec 2004:1) sounds when i haven't even hit it at all and 2) won't sound when i need it unless i hit it in exactly the right place which seems to change every time i need it!a couple of times when it sounded on it's own it lasted almost a full minute! hitting it had no effect.and then, a couple of times when i needed it, it never sounded!thisscares the i-don't-know-what out of me and everyone around me! i've taken it to darcars on branch avenue in marlow heights, md. A number of times in 2006. They were able to repeat symptoms, and did do something that fixed problems for awhile.but problems keep resurfacing. Second week of jan 2006, horn went off on it's own while i was in a curve to the right, and the car to the left of me almost went off the road.serious safety issue!!almost better to not even have this horn!

2005 mercury grand marquis the horn does not work i took it to rolling hills ford in clermont floria and it still does not work

Dt*: the contact stated the horn only sounded with extreme pressure being applied to the right side of the steering wheel.the horn did not sound when any other area of the steering wheel was depressed.the vehicle was taken to the service dealer, who determined the horn was not working properly, but could not determine how to remedy the problem without possibly causing the airbag to deploy.the only work completed by the dealer was an attempt to remove the steering wheel cover to inspect the horn connection.this resulted in the horn sounding continuously.therefore, the dealer disconnected it completely.the dealer, who was a ford dealer, recommended taking the vehicle to a mercury dealer for further inspection.the manufacturer has not been contacted. The horn has since been repaired. Updated 05/30/06.

I purchased a 2005 grand marques from this company.i was driving one day (11/5/07) when the vehicle caught on fire, i was lucky enough to be in front of firestone service station.as soon as i exit the vehicle the engine burst into flames.firestone along with the assistant of the charlotte fire dept came to my rescue siding that it was an electrical fire.the car was towed back to the dealer for repair.after admitting that it was a malfunction of the sensor in the heating element, insurance company was off the hook.but i'm left to fight of not wanting to repair a burnt engine and repainting the car.what i'masking for is a car of equal value.my argument is that if list on car facts, the vehicle is no longer worst what i owe.plus six weeks prior to the fire i had just paid 1500.00 for my 30,000 service.i received a responds for bbb that mercy states that it not their fault, but a manufacturer defect.i'm desperate need of assistant on what to do next.and/or what other options do i have other that excepting a repair job with no guarantee.so far i have not received my vehicle back from the dealer queen lincoln mercy, it is still been repaired.

My headlights will not come on at times or just come on for a couple of minutes and then they gone. I have gotten so many tickets for driving with my high beams and it's seem like the manufacturer don't care at all.

The contact shifted the transmission into neutral and the vehicle stopped. The engine continued to rev for awhile and then the rpms slowed down to a normal level. The contact stated that the symptoms disappeared on their own and the vehicle operated without any failures since. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall for the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000.

Vehicle at times with my foot on the brake pedal, just starts to accelerate for no reason when i stop a light or in traffic.

On three occasions when shifting from park to reverse the engine sped up (accelerated drastically) causing the wheels to spin and only by quick application of the brake was an incident avoided. I drove into a parking space, put the car in park, then not satisfied with the position i attempted to back up, that's when the car accelerated.

Manifold heat shield fell off and jammed steering wheel shaft, could not turn steering wheel.

Knocking noise from engine/transmission area when car is stopped at idle, transmission in gear, windows closed and heater fan off. Problem: intermittent, erratic, muffled knocking noise.heard from inside the car.

Rough engine idle, dealer reps say "all the new ones do it", "it's normal". I have asked them about it on several occasions since purchasing the car. My 2005 marquis does not get nearly the good gas mileage the 2001 marquis did with the same engine. The dealer told me "you can't compare cars".

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis.while driving 15 mph and making a right turn, the engine failed and the vehicle lost power.the vehicle was struck on the rear bumper by another vehicle.a few minutes later, the contact was able to restart her vehicle and drove to a mechanic.due to a computer issue, the mechanic was unable to diagnose the cause of failure.the next day, the dealer diagnosed the cause of failure as problem with the throttle body, but did not repair the vehicle.the failure has caused the contact to have panic attacks and to seek a physician for medication.she has not driven the vehicle since.the current and failure mileages were 20,194.

This car has a dangerous defect.randomly when in a stationary position, by holding the brakes, the engine and transmission sometimes suddenly accelerates powerfully, making it difficult to hold the car.i notified the dealer about this defect, several times in writing and by phone. Dec, 29, 2005 they took it on a drive, and claimed to have found no defect.subsequently, jan, 15, 2006 at approximately 1:00 pm, i was stopped at a red light on grand st. Nyc behind an suv, by holding the brakes, all of a sudden it accelerated, and it was impossible to hold the car.it slammed into the suv in front of me, smashing my front.luckily, the suv was not damaged.but even more luckily, we did not get hurt, (i had in the car my wife, an adult daughter, and 2 grand children).in addition, i guess we were extra lucky that we had the suv in front of me, which averted a catastrophic mowing down of pedestrians crossing.the dealers took in the car, and notified me yesterday, jan, 19, 2006, that they ran tests and find nothing wrong with the car.

Rough engine idle, dealer reps say 'all the new ones do it', 'it's normal'.i've asked them about it on several occasions since purchasing the car. Not nearly as good gas mileage as our 2001 grand marquis got, was told by the dealer, "you can't compare cars'.

There are some things in a car that should just work right for the life of the car if nothing has happened to them'and headlights that come on is one of those things.i have a 2005 mercury grand marquis (i have owned lincoln mercury products for years) and while driving back from my daughter's house one night, my headlights went off.i was traveling 50 mph and there were no lights on the road.my interior lights were still on, but i suddenly could not see the road.fortunately, there was no one behind me and i pulled over (and fortunately, there was a shoulder on that road).i flipped the light switch back and forth a few times and they came back on.i finished the drive home, wondering what in the world caused that.a week later, i was driving home on i-10 at 9:00 p.m. When suddenly, the lights went off again.this time i was traveling at 70 mph and was in the middle of a steady stream of traffic.i'm alive to tell you about the rest of the trip home.i was in the middle lane and was sure that most of the cars in that 'pack' had seen me before the lights went off.i let everyone pass me as i slowed down and quickly got into the right lane when there was a break in traffic.i got on the shoulder of the road going about 50 mph now and slowed down after i got on the shoulder, so i wouldn't be hit.this time i sat there counting my blessings for a while, then flicked the switch a few more times and they came back on.i got back out on the road and almost made it to my exit before it happened again.this time i was going slower so i was able to pull to the shoulder.i put on my emergency flashers and made it to my exit then cautiously home.the headlights came back on and went off three times during the rest of the ride home.my point in writingis to ask ford motor company to reconsider its opinion that this problem should not be fixed by an official recall.i have read that there have been 3,064 complaints about this problem.

The seat belt light came on and would not go offhad extened warranty but it did not cover the price to fix the seat belt which was defective was 900.00 ''' live on a fixed income and could not afford this price also the head light recall recieved a letter but never heard another thing on the head light my concern is the seat belt

Trunk latch on key fob does not require as much pressure as say the button to unlock, lock, or panic(emergency).at the slightest swipe over the trunk icon the release is engaged, the trunk on this vehicle has been left open and unattended several times.this can cause loss to an occupant who may be traveling with valuables.when enteringa passage on the freeway such as a tunnel, the exterior bright lights turn on by themselves. The reason we know is because the highbeam icon becomes illuminated to blue on the dash panel.

At any given time the lights just go out and i can only see by manually using the high beam lights. The lights will come on for a few moments then out they go again. You can hear a clicking sound when it is goes out and back on. This is extremely dangerous especially since i have 3 children in my vehicle and any given time.

I was driving down the road and all of a sudden my headlights went out. The only way the headlights works if i hold the high beam pass lever towards me.

Headlights fail to come on or suddenly shut off while driving.other lights, interior and exterior function.headlights will burn only if the turn signal lever is held back.this is an extremely dangerous malfunction that is being experienced by many ford crown victoria and mercury grand marquis owners, model years 2004-2005.dealers will replace light control module for $500 with no guarantee it will fix the problem.i know of several ford owners with the same identical problem.many wrecking yards are sold out of the salvaged lcms (doesn't fix the problem anyway.)

As i was driving the headlights went completely off, switched to manual, worked for a few minutes, then went off again. Tried turning car off and back on, no lights, had to hold dimmer switch forward to get lights. This has happened numerous times since the first one. Now not even holding the dimmer switch forward always works. Today we were stopped because tail lights were out (driver was holding dimmer switch forward). Tail lights also flicker at times when headlight goes out and control panel flickers too.we have gone to local independent repair service and are having difficulty getting control module due to large back order. So what are we to do in the meantime? this is extremely dangerous to those in the car and others on the road. I understand recalls are when there is a dangerous situation, and this definitely qualifies! so we now own a car that we can't drive whenever headlights are needed, which is very limiting.so far i have not been able to get hold of ford directly to complain about this. We are not the original owners, but that should not matter on such a serious issue! this complaint is about a 2005 grand marquis.

The lighting control module (lcm) of my son's 2005 mercury grand marquis malfunctioned while he was driving home at night causing his interior, headlights, and other controls to shut off causing a dangerous situation on an open highway. After checking with several dealers, apparently his mercury is one of the few of the 313,000 recalled vehicles that do not qualify for recall repair of the lighting control module (lcm).frankly, due to the safety concerns and near disaster of the failure of his headlights ford motor company and / or nhtsa needs to expand the number of ford / mercury vehicles that should come under this recall (15s39) this is necessary because his loss of headlights could have led to a crash. Right now, the dealers are asking for $125 service fee just to diagnose and anywhere from $480 to $600 for parts and labor. I feel that because of the similar nature of the failure of the lcm that the recall should be expanding to cover his vin and the lcm be replaced free of charge.

Cannot shut lights off when i shut off the car. When i turn them on the sometimes work and sometimes don't. Riding down the hwy they just go off. I have been stopped by the police. Drivers window works sometimes and does nor at other times. Buttons for the passenger seat also works whenever it wants to.

The issue described in pe08066 happened to me last night.while driving at approx 50 mph my headlights tuned off spontaneously.luckily i had other cars in front and behind me and could still see the road because of their lights.my turn signal functioned when i signaled i was pulling over, and it appeared my side markers were still on (yellow glow off cars around me).i do not know if my tail lights were still on.i turned my headlight dial from automatic to manual headlights, and there was no difference.then, my headlights came back on spontaneously.they were out for a total for 10-15 second.this is very dangerous.

Headlights intermittentlyfail without warning and cannot be regained with headlight switch.in fact,no position operates with the headlight switch - no parking lights, no headlights, etc. Only after a seemingly random cooling period will the module allow the circuit to re-engage. Ford issued recall 14n01 butto date has not provided car dealers nor retail customers with a replacement switch.one ford dealer ( tom peck ford 608-676-2273) says back orders are unfilled . No ford dealers nor after market auto parts companies are able to obtain the part. Even if the vehicle owner attempts to purchase and replace the small cigarette sized box called a "light control module"out of pocket, rather than waiting on ford, it cannot be found on the market in companies like advance auto parts.this is not intended as a shrill complaint about ford.but the danger is huge to the driver and other vehicles when this part randomly causes all power to be lost to the headlights. At highway speeds, it is very difficult to maintain control of the vehicle to a stop in total darkness.the part failure is increasing in frequency, and is has become a safety menace. Some ford or mercury owners may not be affluent enough to own a second vehicle to drive only at night. No drivers want to encounter another vehicle with that kind ofmalfunction. In fact, all the vehicles with that known hazard should be off the road at night. No doubt ford has been addressing the light control module issue since the april 2014 recall, but certainly not with the urgency required.

I have a 2005 mercury grand marquis. Recently i was doing 65 mph on the highway and my lights just shut off. It scared the'!@#$% out of me so i pulled over. 5 min later the came back on. Come to find out its the lcm or lighting control module. I also found out that this happens all the time and ford motor company knows about it. This could have caused a serious accident, it went totally dark.

Lighting control module intermittently not working. Not reliable for evening travel.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. While driving approximately 60 mph, the exterior lighting, dome light, and all other lighting turned off without warning. Lost headlights.lighting control module failed.it was dark and i was out of state, approximately 325 miles from home.i stayed in va and returned home in ny state the next day during daylight hours.i traveled through a mandatory "headlight one zone" on route 15 in maryland.i traveled through construction zones in pa on i81, where headlights are required to be on.approximately two weeks earlier i received a letter from ford(customer satisfaction program 14n01) notifying me that this failed part was now part of an extended warranty.problem is that the part is not available and ford motor co. Cannot tell me when it will be available.this should have been a safety recall.imagine an unsuspecting driver, driving at night on a two lane country road when this part fails.if this driver is going around a corner, the car would almost certainly leave the road and crash.

Headlights go off, tail lights and running lights stay on.after slamming door or slamming hood lights would sometimes come back on again for a while, then go on and off at random with light switch turned to "on".checked all fuses and relays i could access and all were ok.has acted this was for three weeks now.it's dangerous to drive at night.

The headlights would go completely out when driving and would not come back on. You could hold back the turn signal for high beams only. Driving became very difficult when using the directional or wipers while holding back the switch at the same time.

On 12-7-2016 i was told by fremont ford in fremont ca that they would not be able to fix my headlight problem -- a factory recall item -- until march 2017 at the earliest because the part would not be available from ford until then. The headlights won't stay on. I can't drive at night or in the rain (headlights required in the rain in ca). Unacceptable.

The headlights will turn off intermittently.always at night.this happens when the light switch is in the auto and manual positions.when the lights turn off ,putting the light switch to either auto or manual on,does not turn the headlights back on.only, after waiting for 20, 30, 40 or more seconds will the lights come on when operating the light switch.the has happened when the car is parked andwhile driving (city streets, freeway).this cycle of turning off and on has occurred when getting onto a freeway and repeats at intervals for 30 minutes or more.the problem was only observed by the ford dealer technician when he could drive the auto home at night for two consecutive nights.it was determined that a lighting control module was at fault. The part number is 5w7z-13c788-ac.the old part is not available.

While driving the headlights will turn off and on. There seems to be no cause to them turning off but when they do come back on it is usually when i use a blinker or lock the doors. While the lights are off pushing the signal stick to turn on the brights does not work but pulling the stick to flash someone does. The running lights remain on the whole time and i notice no other issues with the car during the time the lights are out.

Headlights suddenly go off.

While driving on the expressway with the headlights on auto-on, the headlights on our vehicle turned off.i attempted to turn them on manually, but they would not come on.this situation has happened several times and creates a very dangerous situation. They do eventually come on, sometimes when playing with the light switch manually and sometimes not until you stop, turn the vehicle off and then turn the vehicle back on again. Occurrences are random.there is no steady pattern.thanks.

Was driving on frreway at night when lights turned off pulled over on side of the freeway switch the lights on off for about 3 min then they turned on. Since then it has been a very life threatning situation when driving at night lights turn off more freaquenty ready to sue ford for not takeing responsobility and issuing a national recall for this deffect. I was told by a close friend that works for a mercury dealer that it is the lighting control module and that all police vehicles with this problem had them replaced.

Leon riley ford in benton, ky (99 main st.) was notified and contacted the manufacturer about payment for the repairs. The manufacturer stated that nothing could be done. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

The headlights have failed due to defective light control module. This failure is noted as ford recall # 15s39, dated april 14,2017. Ford customer service rep says vehicle not included but did not provide information about recall #.cannot drive car at night, except to pull lever for bright light toward me (driver).

Let me start by saying this is a safety risk that could lead to loss of life. While driving at night, headlights went out.instrument illumination stayed on. Headlight switch was cycled and the headlights cam back on. They turned off minutes later. After pulling over and cycling the bright lights and the headlamp switch, it was determined that driving with the signal light pulled back into bright-flash position was the only way to drive. This was after several pull-off-the-road events.we took the vehicle to the mechanic, who determined the headlight switch to be bad. $300 afterwards, the intermittent symptoms went away. However, the headlights never illuminated. From 12/11 through 5/12, the vehicle was driven only during the day -- occasionally at night, but with the turn signal pulled back to highbeam flash. After reviewing many internet posts, i discovered the light control module (lcm) was the suspect component.the dealership price for this component, as of 5/12, is $521.67. I removed the lcm and opened it to inspect. After nothing was found (burned components, cold solder joints, etc.), i reassembled and reinstalled it. After an operational check to see if reseating the connectors fix it, i discovered the headlight system fully functional. We'll see if the problem repeats itself.this problem was reported an many internet repair posts for 2003-2005 ford crown vics and grand marquis.

The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vin was not included in a recall. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000. Consumer stated headlights unexpectedly would not shine.updated 8/23/18

Driving down the road, the headlights went out.hasn't worked automatically or manually since.the high beam lights would not work either unless i held it in the position that i would normally just push for it to stay on.in process of taking car to dealer.i have had the car for one year in july.hope ford pays for this because it must be a factory defect.i see that many other people have or have had the same problem.

Headlights will activate and deactivate without controls being manipulated. When they are active, they only stay on briefly. Common problem amongst that year and model after performing an online search for the issue and possible recall action by mercury/ford motors.

Headlights shut off in dark.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that while driving 10 mph, the headlights failed. The contact was able to gently shake the switch and the lights re-illuminated. The failure recurred numerous times. A dealer was notified and suggested that it could have been the headlight switch that was the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 79,100.

I had just got back on i-75 north, when both headlights went out at once!half an hour later they came back on! since then, the last 2 weeks it has happened 3 times, until tonight when it happened 3 times in less than a 10 mile radius. When this happens, the parking lights and rear lights are on. The high beams will only work if you hold the flashing unit.i talked to the dealership today about it, and he said it sounds like my light module, which runs about $700.00! that does not even include if i want them to do a diagnostic test on them!this is extremely dangerous, especially at high speeds! not even counting the numerous times i get flashed, as if i don't all ready know my headlights are out!

2005 mercury grand marquis headlights turn off on their own & can't be turned back on by driver - very unsafe!this event has occurred manyevenings with lights on and operating the vehicle for less than 10 minutes with lights ok.then suddenly they go out. There have been other 2005 mgm with same problem occurring.this is a safety issue. Please provide recall information and/or method to get fordmoco to replace bad lighting control module (lcm).please call [xxx]@ cell [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

While driving the headlights go off without warning and will not come back on.this happens every time the vehicle is driven.according to what i have researched on the internet there are thousands of people with the same problem.if you replace the defective part, the replacement parts goes bad as well.these parts are very expensive and ford is aware of the problem .i contacted them but they will do nothing about it.this is a major safety issue when driving on the highways and interstates.it has even happened on the police vehicles.evidently you have already investigated this problem and closed your investigation.i hope people don't have to die before something is done to protect consumers.i wouldn't want that on my conscience.maybe you should consider reopening this investigation.i am not sure everyone has reported this problem.

This is the second time the lcm has, without warning, failed.the first time, while driving along us1 after dark, all lights - headlights, tail lights, and dashboard light - went off!!there were no street lights and cars could not see us from behind and we could not see where we were going!we were terrified. Our lives were at stake as we anxiously and extremely slowly made our way home.the repair was outrageously costly.and, of course, we were restricted to driving only in sunny daylight hours as lights are required when raining. Now, this has happened again.the car has been taken to the local ford dealer.however, although the part has been ordered for over 10 days, there is no word as to when it will be available and we are about to take a four-day trip! we have contacted the ford motor co. About this problem, both by phone and by email, and all they can say is that it needs to be fixed.excuse me!this is a life and death issue!!!we could have been killed on the highway due to a faulty lcm!in all our years we have never had this happen with any other car. We have read in several blogs that there are defective modules being used - yes, from ford motor co.! does there need to be a highway death due to this defect before ford will acknowledge this problem and replace this part at their expense??updated ivoq 12/19/12

Lights went off while driving at night.

The car was stationary. The right blinker started blinking faster than usual. Then the headlights went out. After searching on line i discovered recall 15s39. The problem is the "lcm" lighting control module. I took the car to penske ford (alex uribe) in chula vista. They said they had the part but they lied. They kept my car 5 days, never called me regarding status, i called them on the 5 th day and i was told my car was modified and they could not fix it. I explained it was previously secret service car that's why it had additional wiring. Told me i had to remove the wired before they could fix or he could do it for $135 hr. And it would take 5 to 6 hours. I refused. How did the interceptors get repaired or were they not included in the recall? the more i search on line i"m finding the dealers don't want to do the repair because it's too labor intensive. If that's the case what recourse do i have? i have no headlights, no taillights and no dash lights. When i picked up my car they told me "we got your headlights to work, but they could go out anytime" great! i can't drive at night and i'll probably get a ticket for no tail lights. I called ford but the person in the phillipines couldn't grasp what i was saying. Is there no u.s. Customer service? help please.

You allowed ford an entire year to get replacement parts for headlights that go out at night!meanwhile people are being killed because of this defect.trump should fire every one of you - at least we wouldn't be paying for you to not protect the public while catering to the very companies your mission specifies you are to see to it they do not harm the public.

I was driving to work at 5:50 am in the dark when on coming traffic began flashing their headlights at me. I then noticed that my headlights (which i always have set on automatic) had gone out without warning. I had to drive a short distance to find a safe place to pull off the road. I could not get the headlights to come on with the switch in either the automatic or manual settings. I repeatedly shut the car off and restarted it without any luck. I had to wait until the sun came up to continue driving to work. I goggled this headlight problem and found it is a very common failure of the lighting control module in the 2003-2005 ford crown victoria and mercury grand marquis. I contacted ford motor co. But was told there was no recall on these cars with this common and very dangerous defect and was directed to take my car to a ford dealer for service. I personally think ford should be responsible for repairing this defect with no cost to the customer.

Takata recall: my lights go off while driving down the road.

Both low beam headlights went out at the same time and won't come back on.the high beam "flash to pass" works but i don't want to "blind" any on-coming traffic, so i will not drive at night until this problem is repaired !

While driving at night, the headlights suddenly go out.this is very dangerous, regardless of either driving on the highway or in the city(especially with pedestrians).they tend to stay out for 10-15 minbefore they start working again.whilethey are out,the brake lights go out at the same time, making it even more scarier, cant see to drive, and the car behind me cant see me slowing down or stopping, which increases the chances for an accident.needs to be recalled asap. It appears that it is the lighting control module is faulty and the part itself is quite costly starting at $300 - $500 for the part itselfor $800 installed.

Thank you.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, both headlights failed to illuminate without warning. The contact mentioned that the high beam headlight was not functioning and the flash mode had to be engaged in order for the contact to view the roadway. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection where the contact was informed that the lighting control module was defective and needed to be replaced. While traveling in heavy traffic at night with my 2005 mercury grand marquis suddenly and without warning my headlights turn off and i was scarred to death,i"m a 65 year old lady and i have never been so scared!i pulled to the side of the road and after 5 mins they come back on i make it home but in a 15 mile time they turned off every couple of minutes.

My headlights will not come on at times or just come on for a couple of minutes and then they gone. I have gotten so many tickets for driving with my high beams and it's seem like the manufacturer don't care at all.

While driving my car at in the very early morning both headlights failed on a curvy downhill road.i switched the headlight switch from the automatic position to the manual "on" position, but the headlights did not come back on.i pushed the high beam switch forward to the high beam position but this failed to turn on the high beams. I pulled thehigh beam switch back to the high beam "flash" position which did illuminate the high beams.i held the switch back in this position (to the displeasure of approaching drivers) until i found a safe place to pull over.i cycled the headlight switch numerous times with no effect.the light did finally come back on their own for a short time, but them went off again.this happened several times unit they finally did some back on for a lengthy period of time.the next day the same situation occurred.at all times the other lights (dash, parking, etc) continued to operate.very dangerous.

Just started one night head lights turn off at whether on auto lamp or manual and will not come back till what tends to be an extended cool off period.

Nighttime, turned car off in drive through line at fast food place 185 miles from home.have light switch on automatic.turned car on and drove off only to realize that my headlights were not on.stopped in adjacent parking lot and began playing with the switch, turning car off and on, trying to figure out how to drive three hours with no lights...high beam flash mode would function, but would be very unsafe on two lane highway.suddenly began working on own.stopped one time in route home but again played with it till it came on again.fear this is a big safety issue.

Lighting control module failed.fortunately, i was not driving in traffic or on the freeway as many of the complaints i found on the internet.this is a serious defect and a recall should be issued as this issue occurs normally between 50,000 and 100,000 miles.the problem is so large that junk yard operators told me that all the wrecked 2005 models have been stripped of this item.this is the first complaint i have ever registered because it is such a serious safety issue and must be addressed before traffic deaths occur or have occurred.thank you for your prompt assistance in the crucial matter.p.s.a ford dealer told me they sell many of these items and are aware of the problem.

This is an ongoing problem -- this winter the headlights started turning off on their own, forcing you to hold the brights in position so as to continue driving at night.at first they came back on.now they come back on rarely.the first time the lights are put on after the car has been parked for a while they may stay on (better than 50/50 chance).but after turning car off during night and restarting, the lights always fail a few minutes or less into your drive.why hasn't ford been forced to recall this?

Lighting control module relay intermittent: after reading other peoples incident reports i thank god for getting my family through our involvement with this head light failure situation. We were out of town and got into our car and no headlights! this is a problem that needs to be considered a high priority risk but unfortunately not until a major death related situation will get this resolved. But with the head lights being in the front of the car and a crash will destroy the evidence. I write this so my family and lawyers will be in the loop about this situation. Thank you ford for taking this seriously. Knowing this i sure hope when i sell my ford mercury that i am not held liable with the manufacturer. We are still coping with the issue. We try to get off the roads by dark.

The lighting control module is defective. We have no headlights. The dealer replaced a general electric module, part #5w7z13c788ac in 2014 when we brought the car to nj from ny after my husband's father passed away. They were supposed to replace the lighting control module but said it was a "similar part". The headlights flickered at that time. Now, the headlights are completely out and our mechanic said its covered under recall 15s39. Winner ford said our vehicle is not covered under 15s39 recall. Ford said our vehicle is not covered under the recall 15s39 but we should pay for the replacement of the lighting control module and keep the receipts.this is a safety issue that should be covered under the recall and winner ford and ford manufacturers are refusing despite the defectivevehicle.we drove 60 miles without headlights! the vehicle only has 75,000 miles and should not be without headlights. We shouldn't have to pay $1,500 to replace a lighting control module that is part of a recall both in 2014 and in 2017.can someone please investigate and advise us.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My wife drove the car a few miles, after dark, at night. The headlights were functioning fine. They made a brief stop and when they drove the car off and out of the lit parking lot, they discovered that the headlights would not come on in automatic mode or manual mode. The park lights worked and also the dash lights worked. It was not till they ran out of street lights before they discovered they had a problem. I got online and discovered that this is a common problem with ford products of that model. It is a poor design and if the headlights go off at highway speeds, it could be dangerous. The part that usually fails is a dealer item that list for over $500.00 . Ford has upgraded the new part, so they know that there is a problem.

In october 2011, i was driving at night when my headlights went off. I pulled into a parking lot to investigate the problem. I got out and took a walk around the car and all the lights were working except the headlights. I turned the lights switch off for a few minutes and the lights came back on. The problem worsened and i found that i could hold the "momentary" high beam switch on and the headlights would work -- as long as i held the switch in the high beam position. The situation worsened, and now the headlights will not come on for any length of time. The problem has escalated from october 2011 until late may 2012. If i need to drive the car at night, i must hold the "momentary" high beam switch while i drive. Once in a while you can see the headlights come on because the lights get extremely bright. Then i can release the "momentary" high beam switch. The lights will only stay on for about 10 seconds and then go back off. My mechanic told me that many mercury grand marquis and ford crown victoria's around the model year of my car have this problem. He has traced the problem to something called the lighting control module.it seems to me that this is an engineering problem. Ford wants $600.00 just for the part. If you search the internet for similar problems, you will find an abundance of very similar situations as i have described to you. Not everyone is reporting this problem. While driving at night, the headlights will suddenly go out. Tail lights and other lights continue to work. I do not know what makes them come back on some time later. In early june the headlights started going out with no warning.they would also flash on and off when the wipers were on.took the car to a mechanic and he said the lcm was bad.$500 to repair.was looking online for a lcm and seen that ford was extending their warranty on the lcm under the number 14n01.looked at my ford recall letters and seen that ford sent out this warranty 14n01 to me in april of 2014.took car to the dealer on 11 august and they confirmed the lcm was bad and would replace it.it is now 15 september and the parts are still not available.now the wipers and wiper washer come on even when the wiper switch is off.lights come on when their not supposed to.anti-skid was also flashing on and off.car may be unsafe to drive but i need transportation for work and cannot always use my wife's car.ford will not offer a car for me to use.should this be a safety recall?do i have any options with ford?

My husband and i were on vacation on august 14th 2015 when we were going to leave our location, weturned car on and headlights; when we noticed headlights would not turn on at all. We manually turned the knob multiple times and no lights turned on. When he pulled turn signal lever back toward him, we came to a conclusion the only way we could travel was with the manual high beams on. He had to hold the lever the entire way to our next location in the mountains which was dangerous for us as well as other drivers. The headlights somehow came back on. And on august 26 2015 i just had the same problem with headlights not working unless holding back the manual high beams lever. This time they did not come back on. Not only am i as a driver blinding people with high beams, i am risking my driving by holding down a lever while trying to drive. The lever hits the steering wheel and makes it difficult to turn the wheel. This is a serious problem that many others with this year make and model are experiencing. This needs to be addressed and fixed

I own a 2005 mercury grand marquis, while driving, the headlights will go out without warning. All other outside lights stay on and passing lights work. I have researched this and found all sources say it is a failed lcm, light control module. I have not found a safety recall for this problem, but have found several complaints. Of all the complaints on this particular vehicle, failed headlights is number one. This should be a safety recall. Owners should not be required to pay to have a safety issue like this repaired. I have contacted ford and mercury dealers concerning this, and have been told there are no recalls on this vehicle. This problem keeps happening more often and makes it nearly impossible to drive the car at night. You can use the passing lights, but that is very dangerous, because it blinds other drivers.

I went to have my lights fixed due to a traffic violation for high beams.i took it to be repaired at mall of georgia ford. My low beams would not turn on. They replaced the wrong part when there was a warranty out for the lighting module. They refused to fix issue and my low beams continued not to work. In order to make the lights work you haveto hold down the high beam lever .

While driving at night on nj highway 29 in trenton the headlights went off. They would not turn on except when i held the "brights" lever up. At some point they would come back on, but then they would go off again. I was at speed and in traffic on a lighted roadway. Took car to ford dealer but did not get repaired because cost is exorbitant (over $800). The problems continues so i do not drive this car at night. This apparently happens frequently to this make/model/year but manufacturer does not see it as a problem (i corresponded with them on this matter). Before i realized the severity i continued driving and the lights cut out on a poorly lighted city street as i was turning the corner and i almost hit a pedestrian i could not see.

The headlights on the vehicle went out while driving on the highway. Parking lights stayed on and flashers worked allowing to get the car to the break down line. This has happen about 8-10 times since the first.in checking for a fix, i found there are a number of companies offering a repair solution and this looks like a common and dangerous problem that occurs often. I noticed this has been investigated before but nothing done. Having your headlights go out seems dangerous enough to me. The repair part to do it yourself is sold for about $10.$125 + to purchase a repaired lighting control module. My ford dealer will replace the lcm for $650.

Headlamps go out intermittently while driving at night. Ford dealer says only way can fix problem, which is an investigation, customer satisfaction # 14n01, is for the problem to be occurring when it is checked.this is absurd, as the problem is known to be intermittent - related to bad relays / relay installation.these idiots need to be told to fix the problem before someone kills someone just to demonstrate that the problem exists!

While driving after dark the headlights and dashboard lights went dark.while attempting to restore the lights, they came back on.within ten miles, this event occurred two more times.i went to my local mercury dealer who told me that the module that controlled the headlights and dashboard lights was not available.he also told me that his ordering system also showed him that there were almost 600 of these parts were on back-order.he also told me that one of the components of the module was unavailable and that there was no anticipated date when the module might be available.he also told me that 2005 was the only model year that this part would fit and that the 2004 or 2006 similar parts would not work in the 2005 model year.he also told me that if the part were available that it would cost almost $600 dollars not installed.this part also fits the 2005 ford crown victoria but no other makes or models.this leads me to believe that ford re-engineered this model for the 2005 model and discovered that it was a faulty design and redesigned it for the 2006 model and failed to report the problem to anyone.they have used up all of whatever inventory of these parts they ever manufactured and appear to have no plans to make any more.i have shopped most of florida's junk yards and have not been able to locate any 2005 mercury or ford cars from which to obtain a used part.before daylight this morning while driving my wife to the doctor, the headlights and dash lights went out once again and came back on after about a mile.this is a serious safety issue.i believe that your agency should not only require ford to develop an immediate fix for this problem, but should require ford to supply this part at no cost to the affected owners since it is pretty clear that they were aware of the problem and tried to hide it from the public and the government.

This is a complaint on ford motor co. We received a letter for a recall in april, for the lighting control module. Not long after, the headlights went out. Nothing could get them back on. We took the vehicle to the dealer. The stated they did not have the part. That was over two months ago. The dealer still does not have the part. So the car has been sitting there for that length of time. We could not take a chance of driving it without any lights. How can the dealer get the part from co? it is ridiculous to send out a recall letter and then not supply the part. ...updated 10/22/14

In the last two weeks when putting turn signal on the headlights go out.

My car's light model has been recalled but mine failed before recall.i had it repared locally by a non ford shop.at the time of my recall i had over the 250,000 miles allowed on the car.the local ford shop (woolwine collins ms) refused to repair my car or reinburse me for my repairs i had done about 6 months before the recall.i continue to get notices from ford to correct the problem but what can i do??

I was traveling on northfield road in bedford heights ohio and turned right on to the drive way that leads to walmart. The steering wheel snapped completely loose spinning around. I lost control of the steering and the car crashed into a curb before i could apply the brakes. This occurredapproximately an hour after i picked up my car from liberty ford dealership for repairs done in response to recall number 13s08 - steering column shaft and customer satisfaction program number - 14n01. (lighting control module).

2005 mercury grand marquis headlamp failureheadlamps fail to come on, can not see to drive at night unless holding high beams on. The head lamps on low beam do not work at, i am only able to drive this car during the day time because i am unable to pay the 730.00 to repair the module. The car is only 5 years old. I have been unsuccessful at finding a used part.the problem started in july of 2010 and it now october.

I was driving at night and turning into a dark driveway with my lights functioning fine and they unexpectedly went out.it was an intermittent problem and would happen without warning while driving with the lights on.we replaced the light switch and thought the problem had been fixed; the lights seemed to function properly for about three weeks.the last time this happened, recently, i was on the interstate traveling at 73 mph, passing a semitrailer, when the lights went out.terrifying!fortunately, i was able to get past the semi and pull over to the shoulder, throw on my flashers, and fiddle with the light switch until the lights came back on.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the headlights shut off independently and without warning. The contact had to use the high beam headlights in order to navigate the roadway. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic however, the repairs needed were unknown. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was 59,000.

Headlight module went out 12-10-2016, brought car to spring hill ford (dealer) dundee il. Car was under new recall but the dealer did not have the newly designed part yet so they put in the same defective part and told me they would call me when the new parts become available. They never did despite months of me calling them. Now the old design part is acting up again but in 2016 the dealer reported my car as having the recall fixed, which was untrue. My car should never have had been marked down as having the recall fixed. I still have the same old defective part in my car. Ford should redo their paperwork and have this recall properly marked as not fixed. I spoke to ford 800-392-3673 this morning and the foreigner on the phone just wasn't getting it.

I have a 2005 mercury grand marquis in which the headlights turn off by themselves while driving at night.you will be driving and all of a sudden the road is dark because the headlights turns off.it usually turns back on about 15 minutes cooling off. I have contacted several service repair company who informed me that it is the lightning control module that gets heated.if it does not cool down, it can cause a fire.i was approaching a turn on a bridge at one occurrence when i almost got into a crash.

I was out driving at around 9:30 pm and my headlights just went out, after i got home i looked for lighting issues with the car and discovered a recall. The next morning i contacted autonation ford in memphis tn, where i reside and scheduled an appointment to take care of the recall. I took it in on 8/11/20 , where they did a lcm bypass that was told to me by the service advisor garvin. I picked the car up on 8/15/20 and the lights were working when i left the autonation but after i got home 30 minutes later i went to drop off some mail at the mail drop and the lights went back out. I call autonation service department and spoke with service manager thomas and explained the problem to him and my situation and was told to bring it back in when i could.i took it back on my first off day that they were open . I was then told that they would look at the work they did and if it were still in place anything extra would cost me out of pocket.i don't feel as if i should have to pay for an issue that wasn't properly repaired. As of today october 3,2020 i still have no headlights. I have replaced the multifunction switch, replaced the bulbs and i still have no headlights.

Head lights were coming on and going off on their own, now will not come on. Faulty light control module!

We have a 2005 mercury grand marquis with automatic headlamps.while driving on sept 18,2010 in the evening i noticed dash light were on but it did not appear to have headlamps on.i tried manual switching and still no headlights.i was able to continue home when i found out high beams worked.1st trip to dealer was possible loose pin.lost headlights on the way home from dealer.brought car back and headlights started working again.dealer just called and said headlight module was bad and has to be replaced.one week wait because dealer said it is unusual.checked on line and found a couple of hundred complaints of same exact problem and remedy.$750.00 plus.could have been disastrous later in evening on the interstate at 70 mph.i am requesting old part from dealerthank you

During early morning travel, both headlights stopped working at the same time.after restarting the vehicle the headlights worked fine for a while, then suddenly stop working as you drive.ford diagnosed to be lighting control module and to repair is almost a thousand dollars. This manufacturers defect is common for this year and model vehicle and is very dangerous!!headlights are a safety necessity and this manufacturer defect is above and beyond routine maintenance!

The headlights do not turn on automatically or manually, day or dark at night, unless you use the bright lights. He lights will not turn on by the control lever. The lights will only work by pulling and holding the light control lever towards the driver thereby turning the bright lights on. The bright lights will not stay on unless you hold the lever with your hand. The headlights still do not turn on even if you turn the control inside the car. I looked at all the fuses in the fusebox . I di not see any split wires in the fuse indicating a blown fuse.

My headlights go off by themselves while driving at night.i went online to see what the issue maybe and saw that there was a recall for headlights lcmissue.this is very dangerous, especially at night and it is pitch dark and your headlights decide to go out.i tapped under the dash above the pedals and they came back on, but went back off after a few minutes so i drove the rest of the way home with my high beams on. I never received a recall notice and want to know how i can have this recall fixed asap since it's a man. Fact. Issue.....

I was driving along on a back country road with no moon or visible lights of any kind at 55mph when i lost all headlights, low beam and high beam did not work.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that while driving at night the headlights would not shut off. Usually within 5 minutes or so they would come back on. The vehicle was repaired in june 2010 by replacing the lighting module at her expense. The vin was not available. The current and failure mileages were approximately 18,000.

While driving with headlights on at night the headlights turn off. After stopping and turning car off and restarting engine the headlights eventually start working again. Happened multiple times the same night.

The lights were on in normal mode when i heard a click and they suddenly cut out.i was driving slowly in town and was able to pull over; i discovered that i could hold the turn signal control signal for the passing brights and get light; otherwise no lighting would turn on regardless of attempts to change the lighting mode and restarting the car.eventually the lights came back days later, but have continued to cut out intermittently ever since.this is a major safety hazard as there is no predicting the failure, and the brights are not good to have to hold to use.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that while driving 60 mph, the head lights failed. The contact attempted to turn the lights on but they failed to activate. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the light module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 24,000.

The headlamps decided to quit working right when i am driving down the highway at 45 miles an hour. Could not see anything.other drivers going the opposite direction were honking and flashing their lights at me. This is very dangerous, and somebody could get hurt.

While driving on a dark county road all headlights went off. Had to drive nearly a mile with no head lights or street lights before i reached a place i could pull over. After car sat for several minutes lights worked again. Extremely frightening and dangerous! i can not believe this is a known issue and no recall has been issued!

Head lights go on and of by itself while driving

While driving down the interstate my headlights cut off.my parking lights remained on.the only way to see the road was to hold the high beam switch.this is the fourth time that this has happened in the last 2 weeks.there is no pattern of occurrence.i investigated on the internet and there are multiple reports of this happening throughout the country.the headlight module seems to be the problem.

While driving at night, my wife put on the left turn signal and the headlights immediately failed, creating a dangerous situation.she frantically fiddled with various light controls until finally discovering that by manually holding the "flash to pass" high beam lever, it brought the headlights on allowing her to make it home.the headlights were checked by the ford dealer on august 5, 2011.tests revealed no cause but the mechanic suspected the light control module.he advised further driving, which i did that same evening only to experience repeated headlight failure when using either turn signal or activating the high beams.then i discovered a number of internet postings in which drivers experienced the same problem with grand marquis' or ford crown victorias made in the 2000's.then i found a website which stated that the original light control module had a major problem involving a bad circuit that is the definitive cause of the problem.the local ford dealer acknowledged awareness of the problem (even citing several crown victoria police interceptors that required lcm replacement), but because ford has not issued a recall, they wanted over $1,000 for diagnosis, part, and labor.a website also noted that ford recently completely revised the lcm with an internal redesign by ford engineers so that the new lcms will never fail.the website also noted that some dealers continue to sell the old defective lcm which will only fail again.my opinion:besides not wanting to pay an exhorbitant amount to replace one component of a vehicle's light system, it appears ford is fully aware of a potentially deadly defect affecting many thousands of grand marquis' and crown victorias currently in use, buthas not issued a recall. This potentially deadly defect must be addressed!it is entirely possible fatal accidents have already occurred but were misattributed.

All headlights and parking lights shut off without warning while driving at night in the darkest part of the road.it happens when the lights are set on automatic, and when they are set on manual.there was only a ditch on either side of the road (no shoulder) and no street lights....scary!!!!!

Headlights went dark without warning and would not work regardless of setting.i could only get high beams if i held the directional lever up.very scary. Almost resulted in accident!!!!!

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, the headlights failed without warning. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 48,000.

My headlights failed. Ross tire and service performed diagnostic service. Informed me of need for lighting control module replacement that could be done for free at a ford dealership because of a recall. Ford never sent me a recall notice! i was minutes away from being on the i-10 atchafalya basin bridge which has no shoulder or lighting! the dealership in lafayette fixed my car free of charge however ford has failed to cover the cost of the diagnostics done for me at ross's tire and service. I was on a city street when my lights failed on my way to i-10. I have documentation.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that the headlights would fail sporadically.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the lighting control module failed. The failure caused the low and high beam headlights to fail. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was 104,000. Updated 3/14/13

While driving down the highway @ 65 mph the headlights suddenly went out causing a very dangerous situation. I tried the switch in every positionto no avail the only solution was to use the flash to pass bar. I safely pulled off the road and tried restarting the car and moving the switch to different positions, nothing would work. The only way to use the lights is the flash to pass (bright lights) switch which causes not only a safety hazard to my family and other drivers but is against the law to drive with only bright lights. Ford has issued (customer satisfaction program 14n01) which is a step in the right direction but the dealerships all say that the lcm is on backorder and will be at least 45 days to receive this safety hazard part. Mt family is now stuck in a vehicle that can only be safely driven during daylight hours. Please help, parts stores have these parts and ford should have to be required to purchase them if they can not provide the parts until 45 days later. Is this safety issue going to take someone dying before it is rectified?

My grand marquis lights would not come on last night and went to auto zone. They checked all my fuses. Still nothing then i was stuck trying to hold the highbeams on the whole drive home. Started to look into this problem only to see i am not the only one. Trying to find out what i should do next.

While driving on the massachusetts turnpike at night the headlights shut off with no warning, notice or anything. Never had this happen before. Scared us to death!!!we immediately turned the signal to pull over to the shoulder and then they came back on. About 2 minutes later they went off again. My boyfriend pulled over to the shoulder and turned on the hazard lights and shut the car off. We then turned the car back on and had no headlights, just marker lights. But, if you held the stick for the high beams you could use those. Then the lights miraculously clicked on and stayed on for the rest of the way home.this has been a continuous problem.after much research i have found out it is the lighting control module.approximately a $650 part and about $200 for labor. I contacted ford motor company and they do not feel that this is a safety issue and are going to do nothing about it!!!really!!!! i am part of a website and i get numerous emails for people that have the same problem. I am afraid to drive at night because i never know when the lights will work or not. I don't want to blind people driving behind them and it just really sucks that ford does not think that driving down the road at night with no headlights is not a safety concern....why doesn't the ford executive try driving home in the dark with my car and see how he likes it. Then we will see if it is a safety issue or not, huh??

Lights go off.both stationary and moving. Very scary. Contacted dealer and the said they can't get the recalled part for my car.the lighting modgule

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that the headlights would intermittently shut off. The contact also stated that three weeks prior to the failure, the headlights began to dim. The failure also occurred when the high beams were engaged. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and the contact was informed that this was a known failure and the repairs were not covered by warranty. The contact was also informed that a failure of the headlight module caused the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000 and the current mileage was 46,000.

While driving at night the headlights will go out and would not come back on for a few min. Then they will work for a little while and go out again. This is very dangerous when the headlights go out in the dark or during rainstorms.

I was driving around 11 pm on april 15, 2012 when headlights failed to remain illuminated.blindly swerved off road onto grass.shut car off and restarted.headlights failed to engage.drove remaining duration of trip with high beams engaged.this is the third occurrence in two weeks.the first two occurrences were at around 15 miles per hour.the third instance almost resulted in an accident.

At about 8 pm, i was driving on an interstate in heavy traffic when the headlights went out.i was able to pull off the interstate.i turned the headlight switch on and off, but the headlights did not come back on.after a few minutes, the headlights just came back on.i turned on my blinker to get back on the interstate and the headlights went off again.my husband and i swapped seats and he took over the driving.the lights came back on and he pulled onto the interstate.the lights went off again and as long as he pulled the blinker towards him, then we had bright lights.whenever he released the blinker, the lights went out.after driving for about 10 minutes with the bright lights on, the dim headlights came back on and stayed on for the next hour as we drove home.he was told at a ford dealership that it was the light switch, so he replaced the switch.the next night the headlights went off again.i pulled off the road for a few minutes and the lights came back on and stayed on until we got home about 20 minutes later.we have not driven the car at night since then.we have since learned via this site that there is a problem with the light control module.the service man in the ford parts department said it was his experience that when this happened it was the light switch.so we spent $137 on a part that we did not need.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis. While driving at approximately 55 mph, the exterior lights failed to illuminate. As a result, the high beams had to be used while driving. The failure recurred four times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 88,000.

I was driving down the raod at 70 mph and the headlights blinked off, all the lites went off, headlites, tailites, all. I turned the headlite switch on and off and nothing. I slowed and down and began to pull of the interstate and the lites blinked back on again. This occurred 3 more times on the way into work. I notified ford, no assistance and the dealer replaced the lighting control module, stated they had seen a few of them.i saw a chrysler had a problem and thought i should report mine. I notified ford this was a safety item and they should issue a recall.

On the evening march 18,2010 i started my car..it was dark. I proceeded for about 1/2 mile at which time i entered the interstate i87.ii was driving for 5-10 minutes when all of a sudden the headlights went out. I was in the middle lane, with cars passing on both sides. I managed to slow down and move to the shoulder.scary wasn't the word. I tried turning the headlight switch off/on. Nothing happenedwhile ii was working the switch, the lights came on..lights on, i started driving.within 10 miles, the same thing happened. The lights went out. On off for the next 20 miles..home>>>>ii figured out that i could have lights if i held the flasher bar on bright. Oncoming traffic didn'tlike the brights, but ihad lights..temporary..so the problem continues when driving in the dark. There seems to be no pattern..the lights will go out..then, hold the flasher bar for lights..i went on the internet and found 100's of other s with the similar problem. I called ford and they are not doing nothing. What a serious incident looking to happen ...

While driving my 2005 mercury grand marquis at approx 8:00 pm, my lights went out while i was driving andi tried to turn the lights off and on again, but they would not come back on.i was about 1 mile from my home near my subdivision entrance and i had to drive the rest of the way home without my lights. Later, after researching the problem, i found that you can use the flash to pass high beams if this should occur.the same problem occurred often after the initial outage and i replaced the lcm.the replacement lcm is having the same issue. I cannot understand why you do not think that this is a problem that does not require a recall. It is dangerous to the driver and other motorists as well.

Previous real notice january2016 , was to be notified when parts were in . Nothing happened

The contact's company owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis.while driving 35 mph at night, the headlights dim and do not illuminate again.a mechanic performed a diagnostic, which indicated that the headlight switch was faulty.the switch has been replaced numerous times.there is a defect investigation (number pe08066) for the faulty headlight switch.the failure mileage was 117,000.

The headlights will suddenly go off and won't come back on. Eventually, the lights will come back only to go off again. I searched the internet and found numerous instances of this happening to this make and model yet, there is no recall.

Headlights would not stay on--would go out unexpectedly when driving.needed to hold bright lights on to have any headlights.

Driving at night when head lights went out all other lights were on.we could keep the high beams on by holding dimmer switch up.lights would come on and them go off again.

The only time the light work is if you hold the high beam switch towards your body making it very dangerous to drive. Sometimes they come on when you first turn the car on and then turn off again within minutes.

Headlights suddenly went out while driving on interstate highway at night. I had received a "customer satisfaction program" recall from ford motor company in april of this year advising that the "lighting control module" (lcm) could fail causing the loss of headlights. I took my car to the local dealership the next day. The car was examined, the defect was acknowledged, and the replacement lcm was ordered. It has now been well over two months since the lcm was ordered. The dealership claims that the supply of the lcm is short due to the massive number of defects. I have pleaded for relief by emailing ford but they have not seen fit to even respond to my communication.it is beyond my comprehension how any prudent person, corporation, or administration could categorize losing the headlights as anything other than a safety issue! it is for this reason that little action is being taken to correct this potentially fatal situation.

Please help! updated 08/20/12

When the vehicle is started, the air bag light comes on and flashes the code 34.it then stays on as long as the vehicle is operating.the code mentioned above is for the passenger seat pre-tensioner. Since this is part of the safety equipment (belts may not lock during a collision), i believe this is an item the manufacturer should take care of. The dealer quoted $700 to replace the unit.this has been an ongoing issue with the vehicle.

Air bag dil code came up 33.took car to repair, cost ~$1300 to replace failed pretensioners driver and passenger.safety was compromised without repair and could have resulted in more severe injury or even death had a collision occurred.

Thank you

Airbag warning light illuminated. Diagnosis indicated seat belt pre-tensioner was defective. Since airbag would not deloy in this condition, it was replaced, costing $513.00.internet search shows numerous complaints.safety recall is warranted.

Air bag light stays on. When starting car, get 3 dingstwice, pause, repeat ...i have been told by a local dealer it will cost $600-$1200 to fix. Considering the number of complaints on this issue and the fact that it is a safetyissue, why has nhtsa not required a recall? since i cannot afford the cost, i guess i will have to live with it as i am sure many others are doing.

Both front inner brakes not properly contacting rotor. Only a 1 inch width of inner brake pads have ever contacted rotor.based upon the amount of rust and pitting of the non contact area of the rotors it appears that the brake pads were never contacting properly. In all my years of servicing vehicles i have never seen this type of defect before.

I nov 2014 i took my grand marquis in for a safety recall for the lcm (light control module),. While there, they also replaced the lower steer shaft for a second recall that i was unaware of (recall 13s08). I have been having issues with the steering locking up at low speeds, so i had the ford dealership check it. The showed me the lower shaft that had been replace under the recall (by them) and showed me the intermediate shaft that now needs replace due to being frozen from corrosion. That part was also part of the recall 13s08, but was not replaced. There was a second recall issued also 13r01. Now ford is telling me there is no open recalls on my vehicle and that due to age and mileage it is no longer covered under warranty. This is not a warranty issue, it is a safety recall issue, that was not properly fixed the first time. Ford now wants to charge me $600 for parts and labor for a repair that should have been completed under a safety recall.

On sept. 27, 2009, i was driving down the highway when i saw what i thought was a leaf on my windshield. I later stopped and noticed that a 5" diameter section on the hood and a 3' by 8-10" section on my roof had peeled off. I went back to the dealership and the body shop foreman admitted it was a factory defect but after talking to ford was told ford would not cover it as it was out of warranty. It is a 2005 mercury marquis and it only has 71000 miles on it.

While driving at night the headlights will go out and would not come back on for a few min. Then they will work for a little while and go out again. This is very dangerous when the headlights go out in the dark or during rainstorms.

Arrived at son's home and stopped in driveway with foot on brake when vehicle suddenly accelerated uncontrollably, spinning wheels in gravel driveway.driver swerved to avoid hitting garage and ran head on into a pine tree resulting in severe damage to entire front end of vehicle (expect vehicle to be considered a total loss) and injuries to the driver and two passengers.both driver and passenger airbags deployed.prior to arriving at destination, driver had used the cruise control on the vehicle.vehicle has not yet been moved and am currently waiting for insurance adjuster to inspect vehicle.both driver and front seat passenger suffered severe bruising on face, arms, chest and abdomen, presumably from deployment of the air bags as well as from the seat belts.rear seat passenger suffered a contusion on the forehead and a sprained hand.all vehicle occupants were transported to hospital for evaluation and released.

The vehicle will not disengage cruise when applying the brakes at 50 mph on the highway. In fact it will continue to accelerate until i hit the brakes hard. I have recently disconnected the system, what a shame. I am the 2nd owner. I purchased this vehicle in sept 2017 with only 20,109 miles.

When vehicle brakes are applied, vehicle begins to accelerate.the vehicle requires extreme pressure in order to have it stop.on one occasion i was forced to pass a stop light.the vehicle has been taken to the dealership on these occasions however dealership is unable to replicate the problem.they have not replaced any parts and are now considering installing a "black box" to record the incident if it occurs in the future and figure out what is causing the problem.

Sudden acceleration.the car did this after starting it in the driveway. Upon placing the car in drive the car accelerated burning rubber in the driveway.had to stand on brakes and turn ignition off to stop car. The second incidence happened while braking for a red light, i had to shift car into neutral to stop car. Unsure of mileage in this instance.most recently while in south carolina i was sitting at a red light with my foot on the brake the car suddenly accelerated and i had to shift to neutral to avoid rear ending car in front of me. (mileage 60,000).

Dt: the consumer stated that the acceleratorstuck three times. The owner was backing out of the driveway and went to give the car gas and the accelerator stuck. The driver ended up in a ditch. This happened while driving at low speeds at25 mph. The car is at the dealershipto be inspected. The dealer could not identify the cause of the problem.this has not been reported to the manufacturer. A police reportwas taken.

Vehicle at times with my foot on the brake pedal, just starts to accelerate for no reason when i stop a light or in traffic.

The contact owns a 2005 mercury grand marquis.in february of 2009, while pulling into a parking space at an unknown speed, the vehicle jumped the curb, raced over the median, and crashed into a tree.there were no injuries.a police report was filed.the vehicle was towed to the dealer.the technician test drove the vehicle and found no failures.the failure previously occurred on approximately three or four occasions.the failure mileage was 29,000.

Dt*:the contact stated while backing out of a parking space at 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and the vehicle surged in reverse.the contact shifted into neutral, the engine revved, and the tachometer rose quickly.the vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the dealer was unable to duplicate or determine the problem.the dealer told the consumer, the incident was due to driver error and when she applied the brake she inadvertently pressed the accelerator as well. Updated 09/11/06.

On three occasions when shifting from park to reverse the engine sped up (accelerated drastically) causing the wheels to spin and only by quick application of the brake was an incident avoided. I drove into a parking space, put the car in park, then not satisfied with the position i attempted to back up, that's when the car accelerated.

The vehicle was purchased on january 26 2006 new with lees than 100 miles on it.while at a complete stop in a parking place with my right foot on the brake pedal and hand on gear shift to place the car in park in front of a nursing home. Suddenly the car accelerated forward out of control with enough speed in the short distance to go through a wall into a room of the nursing home. Luckily the room in the nursing home was unoccupied. I did suffer an injury to the top and right side of my right foot, when i attempted to pull the accelerator up with my right foot and placing my left foot on the brake pedal. The car did not stop accelerating until the impact into the nursing home. The car was towed to the dealership the same day and the owner of the dealership and service personnel was notified of the possible defect. To this date the dealership has not responded to my concerns.

Unintended accel. Sometimes when i step on the brake the car accelerates instead. At firsti thought it was me and my big feet. After some internet research i find it may be common asthe 2005 gets older.i asked if brke pedal could be adjusted so that there was no interference with the gas pedal, i was told no.i had the master cylinder replaced, minimum improvement. One day i "shot" across us19 inross township when i braked. Instead of stopping at a red light, i kept going until i cleared traffic in both directions ruining 2 wheels & tires - subsequently repaired. The car now sits in our driveway, after some other occurrences without incident.i'm leary of driving it & don't want to sell it & get someone injured or killed.fortunately i have a 2004 sable which i drive daily with no such problems!ideas?
