Two small horn buttons each approximatley 1 square inch, poorly placed and difficult to find and access during routine driving. Please describe details.tt

I purchased my 1995 mercury grand marquis used in june of 2005.i've had intermittent problems with the horn since then.last summer, i replaced the horn because one of the 2 tones had failed.upon removal of the original horns, it was discovered that the horns had severe corrosion, and could not be reused.i purchased 2 new horns, and had them installed.if i press the horn button on the steering wheel for more than 5 seconds, the horn shorts out the fuse, and i'm left with no horn on the highway.i drive 23.5 miles each way to work, in heavy highway traffic, and the loss of my horn is extremely dangerous when you are around drivers who don't check before changing lanes.in the past year, i have replaced the fuse 6 times.i am again left with only 1 of 2 tones on the horn, and will need to replace the horns again.it appears that the location of the horn under the engine behind the front bumper is a contributing factor to the corrosion problem.is there anything available to relocate the horn to the top of the firewall?also there appears to be a factory installed alarm in this vehicle, but we have been unable to locate the master code within the vehicle to reset the code to be able to use the alarm.another problem we have been having is that the windshield washer switch is sensitive, and doesn't always work.we have to play with the switch, rocking it back and forth to get the washer fluid to pump.in addition, the fluid freezes in the winter, if you don't use the super duty anti freeze solution.when this happens, there is a major problem driving to work during or after a snow storm, due to road splattered on the windshield.i have been known to pull over on the side of the road to throw snow on the windshield to clean the salt off of the windows.this is dangerous in rush hour traffic, when the break down lane is turned into a travel lane.

Horn buttons are too small to locate while turning. Please describe details.tt

Due to the design of the horn on the steering wheel,it is hard to locate horn in an emergency.

My 1995 mercury grand marquis odometer is over 144k. I've experienced intermittent failure of the headlight switch, especially when temperature is near or below freezing. When it's cold outside, and the vehicle has been sitting for a while and therefore cold when i turn on the headlights, i have to play with the switch for the headlights to stay on. It's now taking longer and longer for me to get the lights to stay lit. I've only experienced one failure while driving on the highway, after the vehicle had been driven for over 20 minutes. When i first purchased my vehicle, i replaced all 4 headlamp bulbs because they were too dim.the replacements didn't resolve the problem. From what i've read, the root cause of the problem is the plastic covering on the headlamps. The composition of the plastic breaks down with age and discolors, reducing the brightness of the headlights. This design fault of using plastic over glass is a dangerous safety hazard. If i change from low to high, my headlights appear to illuminate the road within allowable brightness, increasing visibility. Driving on roads with insufficient street lights is dangerous with only the low beam headlamps. I've considered driving with the high beams at all times, to ensure my safety, but have questioned the legality of such a choice. The newer vehicles today seem to be sporting those super bright headlights, are extremely blinding to those who have to drive in front of or in the opposite direction as they blind you as they get closer and pass you.this past fall, i received a recall notice for the cruise control in my grand marquis. I took the vehicle into the dealership; they disconnected the cruise control, taped the ends of the wire, and sent me on my way. I was told that the parts would be in during q4, and that i would receive a follow-up letter to come back and have the replacement part installed. We are into q1 of the next year, and there hasn't been any follow-up from ford/mercury.

Wh/referral fwd re fuel tank defect technical service bulletin 01-21-14 received for a 1995 mercury grand marquis.*mrconsumer noted the center for auto safety identified thirty fire fatalities out of seventy fatal crashes in the 1992-2001 ford crown victoria's, mercury grand marquis and lincoln town car. Although ford stated this failure was problems for police cruisers, more fatalities were civilian vehicleswith the same gas tank assembly. The consumer went to two local ford dealerships whom refused to perform the service bulletin work on his vehicle even though he wanted to pay. Fuel tank filler neck leaks betweenfiller neck andseals. A recall has been issued on vehicle's make and model; however this vehicle was not included due to vin #.according to the dealer, recall work was done prior to sale of the vehicle, but the problem still exists due to defective material used in manufacturing.

Fuel system leaks between the filler pipe and the gas tank, causing severe leakage.every time consumer gases up the vehicle and it sat parked, there was a large puddle of gas on the garage floor. Consumer's daughter found informationon the internet pertaining to 95 grand marquis'.the dealer stated that consumer's vehicle wasn't included in the recall.*ph *nlm

Odor of gas fumes enter vehicle.

The contact owns a 1995 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that while decelerating from driving at 70 mph, a fuel odor emitted from the vehicle without warning. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the vehicle was previously serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 95v063000 (fuel system, gasoline). The failure mileage was 77,000.

Parking brake would not engage. Dealer was contacted and informed consumer that parking brake support bracket broke.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

While driving over 45 mph consumer felt transmission shuddering and vibrating.there was a technical service bulletinconcerning this problem. Consumer had not informed the manufacturer or the dealer about this problem.

Vehicle shudders when shifting gears. This in an intermittent problem and occurs more frequently when there is low load on engine and when transmission is trying to select gears.

Car rolled backwards with transmission in park, causing accident. *dh

While accellerating gradually at 35-40 and 45-55 miles per hour, there is a lot of vibrations and jerking motions in the transmission during shiftings

Car jerking so that i took to reliable mechanic.he drove car and said the transmission is slipping.the mechanic said the transmission fluid smelled a little burned consistent with slipping of the transmission.the mechanic's recommendation was to wait until transmission completely failed since he thought the only option was to have transmission replaced.this 1995 mercury grand marquis has only 34,000 miles on it.i had heard recently that many of the mercury's and ford's had early transmission failure.

Vehicle was parked with engine running and jumped out of gear into reverse and hitimpact 5:00 position , hitting a parked vehicle.

Vehicle was parked on a hill facing down hill rolled forward, parking pawl locking gear was broken.

Tranmission/torque converter has a shudder when shifting at about 50 mph, i have done some research regarding this and have found 19 tsb's regarding the transmission/torque converter from jan. 1995 to july of 2003.this is on my 1995 mercury grand marquis.i have contacted ford/mercury and have been told the cost of diagnosis and repair is my responsibility.it would seem to me with so many tsb's on this problem there is a mfg. Defect involved, and should be fixed by the mfg.

Consumer experiencing ongoing problem with transmission.at times comes to a complete stop. Vehicle would esitate before it takes off. Took vehicle to dealer for repairs. Dealer replaced torque converter and reprogrammed pcm.

I left the house and at the end of the street the brake pedal went to the floor. I returned home and check the car over and observed a substantial amount of brake fluid leaking in the area in front of the driver's side rear wheel. Upon closer inspection, the fluid was coming from the wheel well where the brake line goes between the frame and the body of the car. I could not see exactly where the leak was coming from or the cause a leak. I made a trip to the dealer twice (in another car). They advised to get the car to the dealer and that the charge would be $84.00 to look at the car and at that time i would get a estimate to repair. I was advised that there was no recall or technical service bulletins for this car.the car remains in the driveway inoperable at this present time.

Rear brake line had to be replaced due to spongy brakes and excessive fluid leaking out.problem caused by floor pan stiffening rib chafing the line.second problem which has not as yet been corrected is that the headlamps are completely discolored, yellowed making it dangerous to drive at night. To replace headlampsis over $400.00. Last problem is that the exterior clear coat is peeling.

All the brake lines on car from front to rear are rotted. Cause brake failure while driving.

Driving vehicle about 35 mph; abs kicks in for no reason; vehicle would veer to right.when it happens; brake pedal would be hard to press to slow down; took to dealer & found nothing wrong. Manufacturer says no problem exists w/abs.

Abs warning light illuminates, indicating malfunction within abs system.the manufacturer put the sensor assembly on the wrong side of the vehicle--left rear instead of right rear.if done correctly there wouldn't have been a problem. .et.

Would be using the brakes to slow down. Brakes would make a chattering/ grinding noise when applied. Have been to dealer at least 6 times & mechanic could not locate cause or duplicate problem.

While driving the brake pedal went to the floor. The red brake light on the dshboard came on. Dealer claims two sections of brake lines "rusted" out against frame. I also own a 1992 mercury grand marquis ls and the dealer has stated that this car also has rusted brake lines along the frame.referenced in rq03-004

Abs brakes light comes on for no reason. Vehicle would vibrate when brakes are applied & abs light is on. Took to mechanic & had pads & rotors replaced. The problem with brakes is still present.also, putman arm/idler arm wear out due to design.

Abs brake system: the two front anti-lock sensor indicators-steel ring attached to the inside of the hubs-rotted out. This created a low votage output and cycled the abs system increasing stopping distance on dry payment. When removed, the indicators were rotted to the extend that there were holes in the steel. Upon replacement, the abs system worked as designed. A better material must be used if manufacturers are going to sell cars in areas where road salt is used. My 96 lincoln town car usually has the same failures.

While pulling into parking lot, engine suddenly accelerated wide open, hit curb, brakes applied, no prior warning, both airbags deployed.

Driving approximately 65mph, turned steering slightly to the left, went to recover andvehicle steered too much to the right. Vehicle got into rocking motion and almost lost control, .doesn't know what the problem is or what is causing it.

I was backing up at a gas station and the rear tires started to spin and the car made a noise like i ran over a bunch of trash cans. I put the car in drive and it went forward like it was shot out of a cannon. I applied the brakes and the car wouldn't stop. I went over an embankment, and the car went up into the air into a ditch. Under my chin i received contusions and burns.

Abs brakes failat 10 mph. The brake pedal locks up and lets go.abs lights come on on dry pavement. Turned car off and computer resets itself.dealer contacted, and cannot remedy the problem.

Wheneverabs light comes on and has to applybrakes, there would be no brakes. Ifabs light goes out sometimes, brakes would be engaged. Brake pedal would jump up anddown. Took to mechanic, and was informed that problem was brake module, and itneeded to be replaced.

Abs brakes light comes on for no reason. Vehicle would vibrate when brakes are applied & abs light is on. Took to mechanic & had pads & rotors replaced. The problem with brakes is still present.also, putman arm/idler arm wear out due to design.

Dt: the contactowns a 1995 mercury grand marquis.the contact stated that when he applied the brakes the pedal went all the way to the floor.the contact stated that the brake fluidleaked from the brake line.a certified mechanic replaced the brake lines on the vehicle.the contact has not contacted the manufacturer.the contact stated at only 38,000 miles, while stopped andmaking a left turn, the pitman arm came off and caused loss of steering control.a mechanic repaired the pitman arm .

Rear steel brake lines failed during a hard stop. Both steel lines are rust so bad that it's hard to tell which line failed. The failed section is located about one foot in front of right rear tire. But the rest of the lines appears very rusted. Both steel lines will be replaced. Ford had no repair program for this issue. My 1965 ford still has the factory lines which are still in great condition.! this 1995 mercury brake system was flushed every two years. The underside of the car was washed after snow storms to remove salt. Every spring a heavy washto remove salt, dirt etc. Lines failed from the outside in.

While driving vehicle lost all braking power when brake pedal was applied.owner had vehicle towed to dealership, and wasinformed thatsteel brake line had rusted intwo places.this caused severe loss of brake fluid.please describe details. Referenced in rq03-004

Consumer complained about abrake problem.when applying the brakes brake pedal would go completely to the floor. Owner had the vehicle towedto the dealer, and was informed that the brake linecompletely rusted and there was no brake fluid in the lines.

Brake failure while driving.vehicle checked by dealer, who determined that rear brake lines were completely rusted/disintegrated. Referenced in rq03-004

Brake pedal went to the floor without warning. Red brake caution light was observed only after the failure.there was no braking power. I had to drive home slowly with use of parking brake. I observed a large amount of brake fluid dripping from the area in front of the drivers side rear wheel. With the car jacked up, upon closer inspection, i observed that there was a section of the brake line rusted, corroded and wet from brake fluid. There was a hole in the brake line as it may have rubbed a hole in the brake line due to close contact with the frame. I further observed a small piece of black cloth electrical tape under the affected brake line failure. I also observed that that there was a pink color paint on the rubber donut that is used between the frame and body and that there was a the same color pink (dot the size of a quarter) painted on the center of the drivers rear side brakedisk. This possbily donotes that there was a dealer update in the past. This was done without my knowledge as i have all the repair slips since.service dealer disavows any knowledge of past problems despite the documents that were provided to them.i was advised that i would have to get the car to the dealer and pay a $85.00 charge before being provided a estimate to repair.i have take several digital photos of the affected area and another area of the brake line that had been rubbing against a sharp edge of the frame but has not yet failed.i also observed that the compression rubber donut that is used to keep vibration, noise and comfort on the passenger side had been painted with the same pink color and that the paint was covered with two pieces of black cloth tape.from my research the police, taxi vehicles of the same my 95-97 had the same problems and had been brought back to the dealer for correction however the consumer vehicles have not been corrected.

Rear brake lines failed last month and reported. Upon inspection of the front brake lines, the line to the right brake caliper broke by touch. There appears to be a major issue with the material (steel) used. How many other cars have the same rotted brake lines?

Vehicle rquires constant corrective steering action to maintain a proper position in a traffic lane. This condition is particularly noticeable at highway speeds.

Took car in for squeaking noise under car; discovered it was u-joint seal going dry.however, upon inspection technician discovered four dangerously worn ball joints, both upper and lower ball joints on both sides, and dangerously worn idler arm. This was confirmed visually by myself. Upper left ball joint was in the best condition, all others were missing jackets, had no lubrication, and worn to the level that very little force was needed to remove the ball from the socket after removal, one came out with no force. The idler arm was barely connected, and over 75% of metal at the link worn and rusted.nothing in the car's driving behavior gave any indication that any of these parts were worn.steering had only slight amount of play which was still present after the parts were replaced and the car aligned. Left upper ball joint had been replaced one year and 3 months previous to discovery.no other signs of wear were present at that time. The previous ball joint replaced was least worn, but jacket was torn and no lubrication present.with one exception, the ball joints appeared to have only gravity as the primary force holding the balls in the sockets.my concern for other drivers is related to the lack of indications that the front end of this car had degraded to this level. The vehicle's steering responses were asymptomatic, period.this had not been my experience in the past.possible causes for asymptomatic behavior is unknown (weight of vehicle and gravity?)the earlier problem (1yr 3mo. Earlier) with the left top ball joint failure was only discovered after it failed after hitting small pot hole coming from parking lot and the wheel broke and layed in flat on the road. Speed was under 5mph.

We purchased from an old gentleman of our aquaintence this car that showed 56000 miles. The car was wobbly and un-steady.we took it to our mechanic who suggestedwe put new shocks which did not help.we had felt a strange floating sensationthe day before while driving on the interstate. The driver applied brakes which caused the car to spin around and head to the ditch.he got it back on the road, applied brakes again, again lost control, finally got it stopped.witness heard a metalic sound before, went back later and picked up a2 1/2 inch bolt which was missing from the connection between the stablizer bar and rear axle.i feel this is an extreme danger.we feel there was a defect in the rear suspension all along. We replaced the bolt but the car is still wobbly and shakey in the rear. Thanks for any information you can supply.dt

Vehicle was in for routine maintenance and a general inspection was being done prior to a family trip.the frame of the vehicle was found to be "extremely" rusted about 6 inches back from the front tires on both sides of the vehicle (directly below the front door hinge area of the vehicle).the lower channel of the frame was completely rusted and gone on the driver side and even worse on the passenger side (the same location on both sides).the vehicle was deemed to be completely unsafe to drive and was taken off the road and parked.this is an extremely dangerous and potentially lethal failure.complete replacement of the frame seems the only remedy to correct this failure.
