I was driving my 1994 mercury grand marquis gs home from work one night around 12:00 am and i experienced total lighting failure. All of the sudden everything was pitch black no lights what so ever. Every light on the car would go out and come back on simultaneously, causing me swerve, almost crashing head on with oncoming traffic. I have read online of other grand marquis' andford crown victoria's doing the same thing.this was only my first experience with the lights. I have owned the car since jan 23,2013 and the lights continue to do this therefore i cannot drive it at night. The car is all original no aftermarket nothing but a cd player. Lights were doing this before i installed the cd player. So after this experience i pulled the light switch off only to find that the factory wiring harness that plugs into the back of the light switch had melted where the positive battery wire slot is.so i replaced the harness with a brand new one,and nothing.lights still go out. A couple weeks later i took the light switch off again to find the new wiring harness i had just bought 2 weeks prior melted just like the one from the factory, same wire slot. So now i have to go out and buy another one. I have also replaced the battery and the auto lighting control module too that didnt fix anything either.im going to try a new headlight switch and a nother new harness too. Hopefully that will fix it.but until i get the money to fix one of ford/mercury's most electrical problems i wont be driving it at night. But really this car should be recalled and ford should have to fix this. Grand marquis and crown vics have had problems with their light systems failing all the way up until they quit making them in 2011. Wish i would have known this on 1/23/2013 i wouldn't have bought mine, they just are not safe.

A vehicle fire started at night while parked with the key out of theignition.the vehicle had not been driven for 8 hours.the vehicle was parked in the garage.the anti lock brake light was on. *sc

There was a fire that started from driver's side engine compartment. Contacted dealer, and the dealer was not willing to do anything.

Dt: the contact owns a 1994 mercury grand marquis. The contact stated that in may2005the vehicle caught on fire. The fire started in the electrical system in the steering column under the hood. There was nothing unusual about the way the vehicle was operating before this happened. The vehicle had been parked about twenty minutes when it caught on fire. The fire melted all the plasticunder the hood because they could not get the hoodto opento put the fire out.

Was using high beams, all electrical system would flicker & then go out. Took to dealer & had it repaired.problem later returned.

1994 mercury grand marquis:during a drive at night, the headlights began to filicker at first (along with interior panel lights); this was only intermittent, and could be solved with precise placement of the pull switch. Within 10 days, the filckering was uncontrollable and no longer intermittant. I opened up the dash-board to potentially remove the switch for replacement. Once i had access, i turned on the lights and began to maneuver the wiring to 4658078 attempt to duplicate the problem and stop the problem in order to check for a loose connection. As i was reachig around the wiring, i felt a very hot wire; upon inspection, i discovered that the wire in question was burned up to 1/4 " past the connector (exposing all of the wire fibers) and the connector itself at that point was charred, warped, and blistered. I haven't repaired it at this time.

I understand that there were problems with the oil pans rusting

The contact owns a 1994 mercury grand marquis.the contact received a recall notice for the vehicle speed control in august of 2007.within a month of receiving the notice, he took the vehicle to the dealer.a mechanic inspected the vehicle and stated that it was not included in the recall and no repairs were made.in february of 2008, a second recall notice was received for the same failure.the notice stated that the vehicle may have been previously repaired at a ford dealer, and the part it was repaired with was defective.the notice further advised him to bring the vehicle to the dealer for repair.the contact called ford and they confirmed that the recall did apply to his vehicle.in addition, the dealer charged ford for the repair even though it was never performed.the manufacturer stated that they would call him back with information on what to do next, but he has not yet heard from ford.the vehicle has not been repaired.there had been no failure to date. The current mileage was 168,000.updated 04/25/08

On the evening of december 20, 2005, our 1994 mercury grand marquis had been parked in our garage for about 45 minutes when we discovered a furious fire that burned through the attic and roof in minutes, shooting flames 50 feet into the night sky.fortunately no one was hurt.but the house which we rented, and most of its contents were a total loss.subsequent investigation, which included ford representatives, showed failure of speed control override switch as cause of fire.(entire vehicle has been impounded by carpenter law firm llp of plano, attorney for the homeowner's.)absent renters' insurance, we filed a letter of demand with ford in march of 2006, detailing losses.inexplicably, it was denied.while ford has recalled millions of vehicles to correct problems with this same component, our model and year has never been among the recalls as far as we know.we will probably have to file a lawsuit in order to recover damages.

Dt: the contact owns a 1994 mercury grand marquis.the contact stated that this vehicle was experiencing the same problems as mentioned inrecall 05v88000. While the contact'sson was driving the fuse on the scads blew out.the only way the vehicle could be started was to put it in neutral because the vehicle will not operate if the brake lights were not working.the consumer replaced the fuse, but while replacing the fuse there was smoke coming from underneath the engine.the service dealer replaced the cruise control deactivation switch.this did remedy the problem.

94 mercury recalled 9-12-07 for cruise control recall. Dealer did not say part was not available and removed the wire to the cruise control. I have not been able to get results on my fix, ford service said part not available. With all the parts company's closing i am sure they could have this fix in a day or two. I did not buy this car without cruise and i want and need it now. I have a bad leg that requires me to use cruise on long trips.

Regulator was replaced 4 times within the past three years.window would not go up or down.dealer was notified. Independent mechanic determined problem. 2 driver/1 passenger, and 1 rear passenger regulator to be replaced.

Dealership was contacted after 2nd window failure.they had received "no service advisements about this problem."obviously fomoco used some defective parts.we have no small children to "play" with the windows.defective parts is the only reason i can imagine for 3 out of 4 windows to fail!the failure is not in the motors.it is in the mechanism.

Window not working properly.

Power windows' regulator failed.

All four power windows are stuck in up position due to the motors going bad. Dealer has seen vehicle.

Driver's/passenger's power window plastic bracket within door broke, rendering power windows inoperative.

Passenger's side rear view mirror distorts vision, makes other vehicles appear further away than they actually are.

Driver's external rear mirror design does not provide sufficient vision to the lane left of the vehicle. With the mirror adjusted left to its limit, vehicle itself is still visible from the driver's seat. A vehicle passing becomes invisible, and the view does not prevent the driver from moving into the left lane and into a passing vehicle.
