I am not sure who to contact with this, but i have already gone through my insurance company, and i am still a little upset about what happened. I owned a mercury cougar 2dr coupe 2001. One night i was alerted by a neighbor that my car was on fire. My father started putting water on the car, and i used a fire extinguisher to put the fire out. My insurance company had a claims representative come out and check the vehicle. They already sent me a check for what they say the vehicle was worth, and i am just not happy about it. I know that ford had issues with cars catching on fire. I just don't see how the insurance company can cut me a check for the vehicle, and determine a cause, with only pictures. My car still sits in my driveway 2 weeks after the accident. The car was sitting parked in the driveway for roughly 8 hours before it caught on fire. I just hate the fact that i am having to take a cari spent 13,000$ for, and now i get to buy something worth 6,700$.i was searching online to find more information about the vehicle fires, and also saw where it should be reported and that why i decided to write this. Thank you, seth goodowens

There was no indication that there was a problem with the transmission until one day i went to pull out into an intersection and the car felt like it was in neutral. During that same episode, when at a stop light, the car would not move until it was put in 2 instead of drive.i took it to the dealership and was told that the automatic transmission needed to be replaced.the car only has 48,000 and the cost of the replacement of a new transmission was $3,256 + tax.

When driving at speeds in low 30 mph transmission will shift out of gear, andvehicle will shake. Dealer cannot duplicate problem, cannot remedy.

My automatic transmission, while driving down the expressway, shut down the o/d now will not shift into 2nd gear until close to 5,000 rpm.the car has only 60,000 miles.

The transmission "hunts" as if it doesn't know which gear to go into. This mostly occurs during or immediately following the 1-2 shift. It also has harsh shifts. Dealer says they cannot duplicate.

2001 mercury cougar.since i haveowned this car i have replace the engine at 65,000 miles, left front wheel bearing at 70,000 miles, right front wheel bearing is on its way out at 100,000 miles along with a plugged catalytic converter, and transmission slippage.a/c also failed at 115,000 miles.

Bought car brand new in september 2001.automatic transmission needs replacement at 43,000 miles (june 2005).no recourse as warranty only covered me for 3 years/36,000 miles.this is too soon for a transmission to fail.although the car is automatic, i could feel the car lose power as it shifted automatically from 1st gear into 2nd gear.took the card to ford dealer who told me it would cost $3,000 to fix.i am appalled!

At 25,600 miles, i brought my vehicle into the dealership to complain about hard & rapid shifting and that my check engine light had come on.they replaced the engine light, but were unable to duplicate the shifting issues.i continued to believe the vehicle did not shift appropriately.at 38,200 miles, with the vehicle just over the warranty period, the vehicle again had harsh rapid shifting while traveling on the interstate during rush hour traffic.out of fear for my safety, i exited the interstate and was completing a turn when my vehicle stalled in the middle of the road with out any warning lights, leaving me with no power steering and no control over the vehicle.i brought the vehicle to the dealership and was required to pay the $90 diagnostic fee for the same issue that had not been fixed at 25,000 miles while the vehicle was under warranty.they informed me i had a mechanical problem with the torque converter and they would flush and fill the transmissions.they indicated this fixed the problem, but that this was not a problem directly related to the hard shifting and stalling.they could not duplicate these complaints.a little over a week later, the same issue occurred while traveling to work on the interstate.the vehicle was up and down shifting harshly and once again stalled without any warning.i have made an appointment with the dealership to have it checked again.i am worried about my safety and the safety of others with this vehicle.there is no warning when the vehicle is about to stall and both times has stalled while traveling at about 30 - 40 mph.*la

While driving 50 mph vehicle stalled.consumer applied the clutch, and the clutch was inoperative. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanicwas not able toduplicate or resolve theproblem.

From 3/29 - 10/24/2001 have taken car to dealer 8 times, 5 of which dealing with problems with shifting from one gear to another. Dealer could never find a problem relating to complaint. On 11/16/2001 took car in and was told by dealer the cost to repair would be $1,100.00.i had the car in the dealership 22 days prior and they couldn't find anything wrong. Service manager asked if driver knew how to drive a stickshift? also stated the car has been driven improperly. Why was this never a question or comment before?have previously owned and currently operate manual transmission vehichles at work and for the army reserves.called and spoke with ford customer service representative, she was very polite until she came back from speaking with service department.was told ford could do nothing to help.went back to speak with someone at dealership was told there was nothing anyone could do to help.felt there was nothing else to do but file a complaint.

The metal sunroof on my 2001 mercury cougar broke free on the passenger side while driving.ford apparently used plastic parts in the assembly which holds the metal sunroof to the car.these parts failed after only 26,500 miles.if the driver side assembly had also broken, the metal roof could have flown off the car and hit another vehicle.a complaint website (www.cougarsunroof.com) contains approximately 800 complaints of 1999-02 cougar metal sunroof's failing in a similar fashion.several of these complaints note that the metal sunroof actually flew off the car on the highway.ford customer representatives have been notified of this potentially hazardous defect, but no recall or service bulletin has been issued.does someone have to be injured or die in an accident caused by these defective metal sunroof's before a recall is issued?

The sunroof just released from the car in the middle of i71 doing 65mph and i am not the only person who has had this problem with this model of cougar

Driver door has a major leaking problem when it rains or is run through a car wash.

I opened my moonroof one day and it made a noise so i looked at it and it looked to be off track on the drivers side so we tried to shut it and it would not shut all the way so when it rained, it rained in my car.finally took it to a repair shop and they said that the plastic clip was broke and had to force it closed so now when i go down the road it opens some and could eventually fly off, it is a distraction when i am driving because it makes noise and right now it is cold out and it rains in it. The repair guy told me that several other people have came in for the same reasons this could cause a problem and needs to be taken care of. These company's now days make their parts so cheap and then sale them for a lot of money, they need to re-think what they are doing before they loose all of their customers, no wonder there are several places having to close.the repair guy also told me that if i do get it repaired then i will eventually have to get it replaced again because they are made so cheap.

Dt:the sun roof i broke.the sun roof would not close.the problem started on october 2, 2005.and when the contact took it in to be repaired, they had to break the attachments to get it to close.afterwards , there was still a crack between the sun roof and the rest of the vehicle.this allows wind to come through while the contact was driving.she had totape it down to keep it from flying off.when she contacted the dealership, they said it was not a manufacture r's defect, and that she would have to pay for the repair herself.

The heating/cooler gauge works up to 2 then you have to mess with the controller to turn it up to 3 or 4. Took to dealership and they said that there was nothing that can be done to fix the problem.

Over past few weeks loosing acceleration especially on inclines and highway entrance ramps causing near collission as i can't speed up to highway speed and car behind me must brake at fast speeds.
