I was driving along hwy about 40 miles an hour when car engine stops.this stops power steering, brakes etc. To stop working and you have a hard time pulling off the road.waited about 10 minutes and car cools down a little.it will then start up again and you can go again for about 1/2 mile or so and engine dies again.
Ignition coil replaced.

When the driver started the engine the key was half way out andstarted, motor would not disengage. Also on another attempt there was an electrical problem . After turning the engine off,the vehicle worked fine. The vehcile started without an key in the ignition. The dealer said that they found a loose cable wire on the battery.

The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an unknown speed, the vehicle shut-off without warning. The failure recurred several times. The vehicle was towed to the purvis ford inc located at 3660 jefferson davis hwy #1, fredericksburg, va 22408, where the failure could not be diagnosed. The technician stated that it could be the ignition module, distributor, or the power control module. The manufacturer was contacted and a message was left on the voicemail recorder. The contact was not called back. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Ford/mercury knew of the problem with the head gaskets on the 1995 3.8l v-6 engines and failed to send out any information in a timely manner.this means that there are quite a few cars that had already reached the mileage limit that they were willing to extend the warranty up to.we did not receive notification about the problem with the head gaste until after the car had over 100,000 miles on it.so what it boils down to is that we get shafted because of ford.

Is there a recall on my blown head gaskets, i've had this car only 4 years with 39, 500.
Consumer stated that check engine light stayed on and rpm's jump from 2000 to 3000 causing the vehicle to loose all power. The dealer changed main sensor and the check engine light problem stopped, but rpm's problem continued. Dealer changed speed sensor and the problem still exists. Finally the head gaskets were replaced.
Engine sucked water through intake and air cleaner during storm at ft. Meyers beach fla.nhtsa item number sb600588 ford motor denied any clain to fix or compensate me for cost of over 4000 dollars i had car checked at the mercury dealer in ft. Myers , but they coul d"t fix it for 2 weeks i returned home at 45 miles per hour and contacked the local dealer ,they said it wasn't covered . They said that if i had purched it from them they might have helped me. I contacted ford motor5 or 6 times and they said that there was no way that you could get water in the engine during a rain storm i got a tip from a friend who got me a copy of the service bulletin.this could havr been a serious iaccident as the engine died in bumper to bumper traffic. I managed towrestle the car to the edge of the road .after a while it restarted ,but had a bad knock, scrath 1 engine my wife could't have turned the steering wheel if she had been driving sincethis would appear to be part of the.

Plastic headlight assembly was melted and both light sockets were burned black.this had smoked on different occasions.bulbs being used are too hot for assembly, as there is no air venitlation for the heat to be vented.i will now have to replace entire assembly.while it did not cause a fire, it could have been a source of ignition since the plastic had melted and was actually touching the bulb.luckily, the bulb blew and a fire did not occur.

Noticed gas smell, took vehicle to independent shop for routine oil change and asked if mechanic noticed any gas leakage.mechanic took owner to witness the gas leak in fuel lines just below gas tank.mechanic stated he worked for mercury dlr and remembers recall for this problem on make and model.owner went to dealer and questioned service manager and mgr admitted problem w/make @ model for what he called fuel abrasion.ran vin # @ stated vehicle not covered under recall. Called ford @ didn't get any cooperation from corp. Although they weren'tdisputing make @ model had previous complaints.

Two hours after parking, at approx. 2 am, engine caught fire, fire dept determined fire started in fuel pump area, vehicle was totalled.

One day i went out to my car to go to work and there was a strong odor of gasoline apparent. I proceeded to start my car and found it slow to start though it did start up after a bit.that evening after work again there was a gas smell and again it took longer to fire up.upon arriving home there was a big wet spot on my garage floor which was obviously gasoline and at work the next day another puddle of gas where i normally park. Itook the car to my repair facility where they told me my fuel lines had worn through [chafed] if you will by improper installation. Being the fuel system is under pressure and the line wore through this is the reason the car started slower than normal andwhy there was a gasoline smell.luckily this failure didn't cause a fire in my car especially since it was inmy garage though the mechanic said it could have. The fuel tank had to be removed and reinstalled along with the purchase and replacement of the entire fuel lines from the fuel tankto the engine at an unnecessary expense to me.i read a consumer reports article about recalls for 92 -93 mercury cougars and another one for 97 cougars and am reporting this same problem on my 1995 cougar.
This vehicle has a rubber fuel line that is mounted at the top of the gas tank that run down near the side of the tank.gas line is rubbing, causingwear in the line which isresults inaleak. Dealer has been contacted.

Rotors have failed in less than 18000 miles have called ford cusstomer servicethe lady called the dealer that made the repairwho toldher it was normal .she then called me back with that information .i told the lady this is not normal she then told me it was and she changed her brakes every six months at that i gave upthis may be the reason fordmotorput women on that job

First problems of breaking system started at 40,000 miles bought car at 23,000 miles.the car shimmies and stering wheel vibrates when breaking.have turned rotor twice and replaced brake pads twice.my car is at 50,000 miles now and have replaced with new rotors and new pads for the third time within 10,000 miles because the shimming if getting more violent and will cause me to have an accident i am for sure because this puts stress on all other components of the powertrain.the dealership has told me it is from over torching or riding the brakes. However i have had three previous cars with no problem with brakes and no one has driven these vehicles but me.i do not have industrial wrench so overtorching is not the problem.in conclusion someone is going to die from this malfunction.something is wrong i have already looked at the data on this vehicle from other people and their is considerable amount of problems with the braking system that ford needs to look into and recall i believe.( dot number: tire size: 16 )

Car vibrated during stopping almost immediately after purchase.i took the car back and told them the brakes were vibrating, but they said they turned the disks,but it did not help.later i returned it to the dealer again and they ordered a steering computer, still did not fix problem.they then replace the steering cylinder. No help. I finially took the brakes disks off myself and had to pay to have them turned and which has fixed the problem for now.after reviewing the complaints of other drivers of this model,it is obvious that they know there is a problem,but no recall has every come to fix a very bad handling problem with the 1995 mercury cougar.i feel the government should require the ford motor company to recall and fix this problem.

Gas pedal got stuck to the floor, and the car just off by it self for a 1/4 mile.
When slowing down from highway speeds, approximately 70 mph, i tapped the brakes to disengage the cruse control, after making my exit in to a residential area the cruse control tried to resume my last recordedspeed without me pressing any of the cruse controls. The car reached about 50mph in a 35mph zone and the rpm's spiked to about 5000 before i had to manually turn off the cruse control.
