Wheele speed sensor problems and needing replaced every 3 4 months
While driving about 30 miles per hour on a slightly bumpy road, three indicator lights on the dashboard started to show problems with the abs, asr/bas, and ebd systems. According to the onboard diagnostics the root problem is a faulty right rear wheel speed sensor. This design seems to have put the wheel speed sensor in a dangerous position exposed to the elements, which causes it to degrade and stop working at a high rate.
Power steering went out and car crashed. Mercedes benz walnut creek california refused free repair
Abs, traction control and stability control lights came on while going down the road. This obviously disabled all of the above functions. Cause of failure was verified to be a faulty lh wheel speed sensor by the repair shop.
At highway speed the vehicle suddenly shifted down and i noticed 3 yellow warning lights: abs, esp, asr/bas.fortunately, i was able to pull over.i phoned a mercedes dealer and was told it sounded like a faulty wheel speed sensor and that it was ok to drive with caution.a authorized sprinter repair center did diagnose the rear wheel speed sensor.$345.00 later the problem is fixed.the service manager said they see a lot of these.he said that the replacement sensor has a new part number which tells him that it has probably been improved.i hope so!
After driving for several hours, the cruise control would drop out & the abs, stability control & wheel speed sensor lights would come on.
On: city street, in stop and go traffic. Upon pulling off from a dead stop, the vehicle began jerking, then accelerating uncontrollably. I could not slow the vehicle with the brakes. If i had not moved the gear selector to neutral, i would have hit the car in front of me. Abs, anti-skid, and traction warning lights came on, and i barely had enough power to pull off to a safe place. After sitting a few minutes, i was able to drive the vehicle safely to the dealer. Dealer replaced right rear wheel speed sensor under warranty with what they called an "improved part", but there are three more speed sensors. *dt

I was driving on the highway during rain and 3 messages displayed on the dash: 1) esp (electronic stability program) visit workshop, 2) asr (acceleration slip regulation) icon visit workshop and 3) abs (anti-lock braking system) visit workshop. Also received collision avoidance assist inoperative notification. I pulled off the highway and experienced unexpected acceleration and erratic gear shifting resulting in extremely unsafe operation. Later, mercedes service determined the left rear wheel speed sensor was the problem (see attached). Diagnosis and fix was $473.99 plus tax. They said this is a common problem with sprinters especially if uplifted to rv. I understand there is an ongoing nhtsa investigation of this problem. I strongly believe these wheel speed sensors should be recalled due to their effect on esp, asr, abs and collision avoidance assist causing unexpected acceleration and erratic gear shifting which results in extremely unsafe operation.
It started with transmission not shifting, dash warning lights flashing, no cruise control all while in motion
At approximately 11,600 vehicle miles the def warning message came on stating that there were only 10 remaining starts left on the vehicle. Previous message prior to this was to check the def system level. Def had been added for the previous 2500 miles every 500 miles to maintain a full tank. Since i was in wyoming there were no mercedes dealers available to troubleshoot the warning messages. After the limiting start message i contacted the nearest mercedes dealer in farmington, utah for an emergency appointment the following day. I drove approximately 260 miles from the tetons in wyoming to have the system checked and repaired at my expense. The repair required the replacement of the def tank and associated components at a cost of $3,400.00. Mercedes refused to cover the cost of repair due to vehicle age for the state( nc ) not covered in extended emissions warranty.

While driving on interstate highway, the following warning messages appeared: abs, esp and ars not functioning and take to workshop.also, the blindspot warning on mirrors stopped working, as did the cruise control.drove several hours to nearest mercedes dealership without these safety features.problem diagnosed as rpm sensor failure.was advised that although only one sensor failed, they recommended replacing both at the same time.at the time, the vehicle only had 40,111 miles on odometer, but was not covered under warranty.service advisor stated that sensor may have gotten hot, suggesting i had driven with emergency brake on.i took exception to this, as i rarely employ the e-brake unless i am on a very steep incline, and had not used during this trip.repair cost totaled over $700.copy of bill attached.this occurred on september 8, 2018, as i was beginning a multi-state trip.

Abs brake safety issue with 2014 mercedes sprinter 3500.just completed 5,000 mile trip where the abs warning light came on less than 200 miles after starting the trip.the abs warning came on every day of driving after 5 to 100 miles and would reset after short stops with engine turned off for 30 minutes or less and the abs light would go off but came back on after short distance.if the vehicle sat over night the abs light would stay off from 5 to 100 miles the next day before coming back on.several times when the abs was about to fail the vehicle would begin to buck and the engine rpm would rapidly increase causing the vehicle to surge forward if going slower than 20 miles per hour. While the above is happening there is a grinding sort of noise coming from the engine compartment on the left side behind the firewall and if you are breaking at the same time it feels like the brakes lose pressure and the pedal goes to the floor..two times this almost caused an accident.the first was at a gas station where i just filled the tank and was pulling out of the station and the abs problem occurred almost pushing me into the truck leaving the gas station ahead of me.the second time was in taos nm. I was at a red light downtown and when it turned green i turned left for a short way that led to a stop sign and while stopping the vehicle it started bucking and then the rpm increased pushing me through the stop sign until i was able to hold it back pushing and pumping on the break as hard as i could.if the abs fails when traveling above 20 miles per hour it sometimes bucks and then increases the rpm that can be controlled by breaking.one time i just let it go to see what it would do and it increased the rpm to 3800 before i used the break to keep it from red lining the engine.
I have been experiencing the brakes felt very soft and made long braking distance. When i towed the small suv, i thought it was normal because i was driving with over its gvwr. But all the time i have to step more time(like pumping) to stop even on driving under 40mph. It never allow me to step one time.
Breaks are soft and spongy and the pedal goes within 1-inch from the floor.this is very nerve racking and unsafe.i have to start applying the breaks far ahead from where is normal and hope i stop in time.this rig is heavy and the breaks should work just the opposite to give more time to stop.had breaks checked at dealer and they said they can't find anything wrong but wanted to charge me to flush breaks.went to manager and they paid the cost to flush but the problem is still the same. This condition happens every time you use the breaks regardless of speed.

Brakes feel ineffective and soft on first application of pedal.require 2nd application of brake pedal to feel confident braking action. Many other owners of this 2014 chassis sprinter 3500 report same issue.dealers unable to diagnose or remedy the problem.indicates a design / engineering flaw, rather than, a mechanical failure.this braking issue was consistent since we purchasedthe vehicle.http://www.forestriverforums.com/forums/f191/who-else-has-soft-spongy-brakes-on-their-mb-93102.html

In june of 2020 this vehicle caught on fire, originating in the engine compartment according to my driver. The vehicle was a total loss resulting in no bodily harm and my insurance company paid me a settlement and is still investigating last i heard. I also had to replace two wheel speed sensors out of pocket that my local dealer didn't recognize they should have been covered under warranty. My dealer did eventually acknowledge they should have been covered, but refuse to reimburse since they didn't do the work.
I left my motorhome parked and secured by locking deadbolt on the coach door.when i returned i could not open the door.locksmith noted door latch deadbolt is susceptible to failure without notice leaving occupant(s) unable to open the door.the actuator rod for the deadbolt quite easily slips from the mechanism because the backing plate leaves too much room for unintended movement with the simple act of slamming the door too hard likely to cause failure.while the driver/passenger vehicle doors or rear window fire escape are alternatives to exit, panic or the location of a fire within the motor coach may leave occupants with no escape route if the mechanism fails with the deadbolt in the locked position.latch interior is engraved as follows: trimark new hampton rd/enr 1993/72130 with the numbers 1107 hand engraved on the case as well.
California smog. 9th emission monitor fails to clear. Dealer keeps sending me out to drive hundreds of miles. Doesn't repair. Under warranty. Cal smog board aware of this known defect.

Problem with speed sensors . I have replaced the speed sensor on my vehicle on four different occasions. This seems to be a reoccurring problem that needs to be addressed before someone gets seriously injured. Mercedes benz seems to be doing nothings to rectify this problem.
