Stopped by highway traffic congestion,i drift in nuetral downhill as vehicles start to move, then brake and drift again. When the traffic starts to gain speed again i engage the transmission and step on the gas. Nothing! the engine revs but no forward acceleration. I am drifting now at a good speed so i return to nuetral and trun off the engine, wait a second, and restart. I try again to engage the transmission, but nothing. Luckily i am on the slowest lane of a 4-lane highway and i pull over. Once fully stopped, i feel the transmission engage, so now i can begin to merge back into the now much faster moving buildup of traffic.with my two girls on board returning from a scout camp, i only shudder what could have happened had i been in the middle lanes needing to come to a full stop to regain movement in my vehicle with traffic flying by on all sides. I have had similar problems with my other ml, but not at these speeds. The dealer said, "the car is not meant to be driven from nuetral." no other car i have ever owned has failed to engage when put into gear! my other ml failed while standing at a light ! !this needs attention.others on the mbnz.org chat site also report that the ml revs for 30 seconds while only moving slowly from a light. I am not alone! please help before an accident occurs.
The steering wheel locked to times while driving the car in local traffic. My brother was travel no more than 30-40 mph and almost had a collision due to the steering locking. The car was taken back to the dealer several time since and we were told by pepe technician off the record that mercedes knows about this problem, it can't be fixed, we are hoping they will recall the truck. The problem is the computer chip is somehow misreading the speed of the vehicle and gets overheated and locks the steering. We have gone to several other dealers to talk to them about the ml55 and they all stated they new about the problem but were told not to go public with any statements. The dealership is not willing to give my money back for the purchase of the car and is officially claiming nothing is wrong with it. We have contacted mercedes benz and they are also claiming nothing is wrong with the truck. When we asked them about the incident with the woman who ran over 6 people in ny (the truck accelerated) with the same ml55 they had no comment.
