Owner had arrived home at 7:00 p.m. From work and was inside his residence.at 10:00 p.m. Police and fire personnel came to his door to inform him that his car was on fire.one resident said that, as he was walking in the parking lot, he noticed there was fire in the passenger side rear tail light (around 10:00 pm) and when he looked inside, there was fire in the vehicle directly behind the rear tail light.he ran for a fire extinguisher and also yelled for help and for someone to call 911 for the fire department.both fire and police arrived.car had not been driven for 3 hours and was parked, was driven only 7 miles three hours earlier with no stops.car has been considered totaled by insurance due to the amount of damage incurred and had been owned for only one year, serviced regularly by mercedes benz, and all recalls had been up-to-date! the servicing mercedes dealership promptly informed mercedes benz usa who also promptly contacted the owner to fill out the appropriate paperwork and submit pictures for review.this paperwork/pictures were also promptly submitted.however, due to the seriousness of this fire and possible loss of life and property that could have been catastrophic, this report is also being sent to your agency for follow-up.(note that there was a recall on the tail lights in the ml350 for possible fire for 2007 and years above, but not the year of this vehicle, 2006.a similar problem is reported in the c-class automobiles and may be more widespread than previously thought).

The car keys would not open the car doors or the trunk

Headlight wiring insulation is cracking leaving the wire exposed.if the wires touch it couid short circuit the electrical system or cause a fire.my vehicle was stationary when i noticed the problem.

Recently i was driving and my check engine came on. I took it to the mercedes-benz dealer to have it checked and the diagnostic reported the balance shaft and intake repair was needed.the issue is that there was a lawsuit against mbusa for faultybalance shafts. At no point in time was i informed of the claim on my vehicle. I need assistance in having my vehicle repaired before the time expires. Mb usa has defective parts and they are not acknowledging the repair.

Right rear taillight had an electrical fire that started in the wire housing. The car was parked (stationary)

Second year of this same complain. The dealership i bought the car from mention that the mercedes should be taking care of my issues. But that isnt happening. Mercedes just wants to keep charging me . I look up the defects of the car and it tells me exactly the same problem i am having

I had a 2006 ml350. It spontaneously caught fire as it was parked for two hours after i had driven it. The firemen state in the report it was an electrical fire and started from a short in the rear taillight harness.i brought this to mercedes benz usa's attention and they were careless about the safety dangers that this caused/posed. They said it wasnt a manufacturers defect after the 2 month long investigation was stamped inconclusive.they were of more concern about this being leaked or exposed and tried to sweep my case under the rug. They only gave me one case manager and limited me only to speak with her after begging to speak with another manager.after being trapped in this corporate cover up i had no where else to turn. Susan m( my west coast regional case manager) how many other vehicle cases did they sweep under the rug like mine? i do not expect this kind of cover-up from mercedes and would expect them to stand behind their vehicles.http://www.mercedesdefects.com/2008/04/wire-harness-defect.htmlplease get this to the next step before people loose their life! i could have died this night! this is their factory recall mercedes benz usa said they didnt have for my vehicle after the fire. I was driving with the driver's side electric seat heater turned on. I noticed a burning smell and felt a burning pain on my back. After exiting the vehicle i saw that the seat heater had burned a hole through the leather driver's seat and through my jacket.

My ml350 has 65000 miles only and was working fine then engine stalled and now needs a new engine!!stalled on highway suddenly and had to be towed toshop they want to replace engine?

While vehicle was parked and shut off, tail hazard light were activated along with warning alarm for tailgate malfunction or open. During the morning of the incident, vehicle continued to show same issues. When vehicle was later entered, issue with tailgate opening seemed to have stopped, after driving an approximate 5-7 miles, odder of smoke emerged, tailgate warning alarm sounded along with normal traffic horn, in addition cabin lights turned on and warn messages appeared on dash for flat tire, blown bulbs, etc, driver pulled to side of road and turned off vehicle to investigate. Soon after turning off vehicle smoke began to fill cabin, driver immediately exited vehicle, flames over took vehicle within minutes. Remains show upper half of cabin (seats and up) took primary burn, flooring was not burned. Engine bay only has minor fire damage from large flames and heat going out of front windshield.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350.while driving approximately 40 mph, the contact's daughter accidentally spilled a smoothie on the electrical component cover located on the passenger row floor.the liquid penetrated the electrical system and the instrumental panel.as a result, the steering and the abs involuntary engage.the contact lost control of the vehicle, but was able to pull over to the side of the road. The dealer replaced the window motor and the computer at the cost of $1,384.the manufacturer filed a report and stated that the cover was designed in that manner.they would not assist.the current and failure mileages were 34,695. Updated 11/07/08. *ljupdated 11/07/08.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the abs and the check engine warning light illuminated. In addition, the speed decreased and failed to increase over 30 mph. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the failure was unable to be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 08v303000 (electrical system). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

When i was driving my mercedes benz ml350, the malfunction light came on regarding the rear lift gate. Shortly thereafter, i smelled smoke and took the car to the dealer. The dealer informed me that there was some kind of liquid spill in the cargo area. The liquid that spilled got into the central processing unit, causing an electrical short in the system and the rear lift gate would not open. The vehicle cpu caught fire due to the spill. There are no warning messages posted in the cargo area, cautioning the owner that the car could catch on fire if there is a liquid spill in this area. Additionally, there is no information in the owners manual notifying of this potential disastrous event. Seeing that the cargo trunk is the most common place where liquids would be transported from the grocery store, mercedes should properly protect that part of the vehicle from liquids if it contains computer circuitry and a spill can cause a fire. This should have been considered a safety hazard. As a result of this incident, the computer system, rear lift gate latch and body component will need to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. While driving approximately 65 mph, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning.the vehicle was towed to a fuel station and later taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic advised the contact that the fuel sending unit would have to be replaced. There was a recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 08v303000 (electrical system). The contact called the manufacturer who advised that the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 49,000.

This vehicle experienced alternator failure and subsequent battery discharge, and was then boosted and driven home. Once the engine was again restarted. It failed to shut down after the driver removed the key from the ignition. According to our private automotive engineer, this lack of driver control over engine operations is a fundamentally dangerous condition, and represents a potential firmware and/or computer system error within the design of the vehicle.

I was driving and i turned on my seat heater, and i saw smoke. I burned my clothing and have a little burn on my back. The seat was burning and had a little fire.

I was driving my 2006 mercedes ml 350, with the seat warmer turned on.i noticed a smell of smoke coming from inside the vehicle, so i turned off the seat warmer and the smell went away.the next day i discovered that the seat warmer had burned a small hole in the seat covering on the left side of the driver's seat just above the driver's waist.when i took it to the dealer, they told me that the vehicle was out of warranty, and that it would cost $800-$1000 to correct the problem.the mechanic that i talked with 1-on-1 told me that they get this problem frequently.since the day of the burn through, i have not used the seat warmer.i feel very fortunate that i noticed the smoke and shut the seat warmer down before the situation resulted in a fire or personal injury.systems with these types of risks should have some kind of "extended" warranty coverage when they fail, to help cover the risk of fire or injury.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when it ignited in small flames underneath the hood area; a bypasser extinguished the fire. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer and they informed that the fire originated from the fuse box which completely destroyed the wiring harness and caused other damages. The insurance company continued to investigate the failure. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 37,000. Updated 03/24/11*ljupdated 1/4/11

Dt*:the contact stated there was one cup of water in a bag in the cargo area.the water spilled onto the central processing unit, causing an electrical short in the system and the rear lift gate would not open.the vehicle was repaired at the dealership.

The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

"takata recall".in house wiring,3rd brake light, turn markers ,brake lights all non operational. Taken to dealership problem stilloccurs!

While traveling on 80 east in new jersey on a rainy day the esp light malfunction showed on the dashboardscreen. At that point the vehicle spun to the right and could not be controlled. The failure of the esp caused the crash.

Ever since i bought this car used in 2017 i've been having problems with it since day one. I cannot believe they have not been any recalls on this car with all the wrong things with it it jolts out of control it's swerves from side to side in the power steering is just a total mess. When i'm at a stop sign it suddenly starts shaking out of nowhere and then with the car being in park is jolts back and forth. I went to a doctor's appointment yesterday i park my car like i normally would next to you nor i come out the car won't start there's fluid leaking and i believe it's the power steering. This car feels totally unsafe what up wrong purchase i made and i'm not know what to do i called mercedes and they said there's no recall there's nothing wrong with my car please help i don't know what to do

Second year of this same complain. The dealership i bought the car from mention that the mercedes should be taking care of my issues. But that isnt happening. Mercedes just wants to keep charging me . I look up the defects of the car and it tells me exactly the same problem i am having

On n.y. State thruway,on cruise control, brakes suddenly applied themselves. Abs and sls flashed on dash.car suddenly decelerated. Turned off cruise control and pulled off. Attempt to start again and brakes applied themselves. After several tries ,@20 min. Was able to get car moving. Brought car to dealer who said some kind of brake sensor was defective. Charged for replacement.

Power steering fails, when turning into a parking space or parallels parking. This has happen for years and i was told that it can lock up . It was at one time a recall .and mercedes mention to me that the recall has ended. I dont have the money to fight this . But i have taking the car to mercedes to diagnostics and they wanted to charge me 100.00 . When i know this problem is part of the recall.

Check engine light came on and when i took my truck in they said it was the balance shaft gear $7500 in md. I couldn't afford it so i left and did research to see if this is something that happens to all mls or i just ave bad luck. I found out they recalled this part and a class action lawsuit was filed and approved in 2015. Its too late to claim it now, there was a time limit which i feel is ridiculous that's like putting a time limit on someones life because of a faulty part mercedes knew about for a long time and didn't say anything. What will it take to get this issue resolved without having to come out of pocket to pay or to get a lawyer to file a class action lawsuit again. Since there has been more than one class action law suit filed should speak volume and we should be taken care of without any problems.

Purchased a used mercedes-benz ml350 from a local dealer. Shortly after purchase, check engine light came on. Brought it to the dealer twice, they said it was fixed but never was. As a disabled mechanic, i put it on my scan tool, fixed the issues that were occurring and now i'm having 2 codes of p0016 & p0017 come up. I did a little research, come out find out that it's an internal issue with the engine.i am financially and physically unable to repair it myself, nor should i have to. As it is a manufactures defect.i have done some research and there is a pending class action lawsuit.

Check engine light came on. Took the car to my repair shop and was told that the engine had a bad balance shaft and the engine would need to be removed for repair. The estimate cost could reach $6,000 or more and would take more than week to complete.

My check engine light came on about 24 june 2013 or so. I contacted atlanta classic cars, my local mb dealership to address the issue. My vehicle was inspected on 2 july, and the report indicated my balance shaft needed to be replaced ($5,100), my power steering components needed to be replaced ($3,067.50), and my transmission valve body needed to be replaced ($1,812.95). I have been the sole owner of this vehicle, and have had it serviced regularly at mb dealerships (critz - savannah, ga and atlanta classic cars - duluth, ga).previously, this vehicle had transmission problems, which occurred just after the warranty expired. At first, atlanta classic cars did not want to take responsibility for the issue, since the vehicle's warranty had expired. After my husband got involved, they agreed to fix the problem for no charge. Another minor problem involved the locking mechanism on the vehicle's hatch -- it had to be replaced three times before it finally worked properly. I am very dismayed that after seven years and 109k miles, my vehicle is experiencing such expensive problems as this.

The failure mileage was 57,000. ...updated 02/11/15the consumer was informed the balance shift gear alsoneeded to be replaced. Updated 02/19/15

The balance shaft went bad after reqular maintenance. The check engine light came on.

My car started to give less power while driving initially and then couple of days the engine light came on. I took it into the shop and was told the balance shaft needed to be changed.there was a law suit against mb. The settlement identified my car as a candidate for a future repair. I went to the dealer and nothing like this was mentioned. I was told to pay full price.

Cam-shaft and crank-shaft malfunction. Vehicle wont drive properly and also experiencing electrical issues. Lights and locking mechanisms going on and off on their own.

2006 mercedes ml 350. Consumer writes in regards to check engine light problems. *ld

While driving on the freeway, check engine light illuminated, some decrease in power. Took to mb dealer, pulled the code for cam shaft sensor, possibly cam shaft balancer.waiting to hear about cost & potential future problems.

My check engine light came on and i took the vehicle to a local mercedes dealer, and the tech told me that the balance shaft was the problem and that it will cost me about $8000.00 to fix it.he also said that there was no manufacturer warranty to fix it.it took the vehicle to independent mechanic who fixed the problem with about $7200.00.i researched the problem and found out that is common problem with the make and model, and there is a pending class action suit in nj against mercedes usa.i contacted mercedes usa in august 2013 about reimbursing me the cost of repair, but the manager i spoke to denied the request.action requested: i am seeking the help of nhtsa in recovering my cost of repair.

Driving 45mph approaching a stop, i hit the brakes and the car started to slow. Then the car lurched and accelerated by its self. I pushed the brake harder and tried to pump it but nothing slowed the vehicle. The brakes felt as if they were not working at all. Vehicle crashed at about 55mph and rolled severely injuring the driver. No adverse weather conditions, 77 degrees out, driving on a military installation road.

Mercedes has produced several thousand engines with defective balance shaft seen in model years 2005-2007 in the m272 and m273. The decided use of soft metals for engine components, such as the balance shaft, lead to a rapid deterioration over time and renders the engine unusable and a potential hazard as the camshaft and crankshaft will not turn, potentially causing the vehicle to break down on the roadway, lose power steering or even lock the steering column, heat excessively, or possibly even catch fire. Mercedes has accepted a settlement offer in 2015 covering many plaintiffs, but denied responsibility. It is obvious that the consumer had nothing to do with the choice of materials used to make the balance shaft, and therefore the manufacturer is clearly responsible, and must know it. Upon replacement of the balance shaft, the issue seems to go away, indicating that the manufacturer made a fix for an issue they knew they were responsible for, covered it up, and denied responsibility. The newer balance shafts are reliable as mercedes knew of issues with their previous faulty ones. Mercedes has only offered to cover up some of the damages, in most cases less than 38% or none at all, only gave customers a few months to file a claim, and almost none were notified of the issue or the settlement, and had come to realize it when it was too late. Many vehicles still well within warranty have been affected by the defective balance shaft, which means that older vehicles with the same issue prevails on the basis of the initial defect. The balance shaft issue has caused my vehicle to stall on the roadway on many occasions, and in one instant, my vehicle's steering column locked as a result. I have reached out to mbusa for a resolution, only to be told that since the vehicle is too old, it's not their responsibility. Vehicles 3 years old have had this issue. Age is no factor.

Vehicle was sent to the shop for check engine light. The vehicle diagnostic indicated that it was the crank shaft sensor. The sensor was changed out but the check engine light immediately came back on. After further diagnostic it was determined that the vehicle balance shaft located inside of the engine was defective and the only way to fix the problem is to replace the part inside of the engine. Currently i cannot pass emissions or tag registration because of this issue.

Took my vehicle to the dealership for check engine light. My registration is up next month and need to smog. It won't pass with check engine light. Dealership says its timing gear/camshaft issue and it will be $7500.00 to repair and its dangerous to drive. The service advisor said mercedes would be willing to pay 25% of parts for the repair which would be around $500.00. This i thought was strange so i looked it up online and their are hundreds of stories and a couple class action lawsuits regarding this same issue for this engine. Mercedes benz obviously knows about it and should recall it.

Pulling out into lane of traffic accelerating where car abruptly starts to run very very rough.check engine lights come on and can become unsafe with no power and oncoming traffic approaching.similarly while driving over 60mph same scenario causing cel to come on and car to disengage cruise and slow extremely fast.very rough running and idle.terrible feeling of being unsafe and at risk.finding p0016 and p0017 codes and all symptoms of balance shaft issue that the mb m272 is known for.my wife and i are afraid to drive this vehicle now knowing it had a known defective engine component in a software balance shaft gear

Settlement about defective gears wear out prematurely, excessively, and without warning, causing the vehicle to malfunction, the 'check engine light' to remain illuminated, and the vehicle to have symptoms such as misfiring or catastrophic stops. Majeed seifi, et al. V. Mercedes benz usa llc case no. 3:12-cv-05493 u.s. District court for the northern district of california. Majeed seifi, alleged a defect in balance shaft sprockets in (v-6) engines and idle gears in (v-8) engines model year 2005-2007 mb that causes the gears to wear prematurely. Plaintiffs contend ("mbusa") had a duty to disclose this information to consumers at the time they purchased their vehicles. Based on conduct, claims for violations of the new jersey consumer fraud act, california's consumer legal remedies act and unfair competition law.mbusa has agreed to offer to settlement class members to make qualified repairs mercedes benz engine defect class action settlement. Defective gears wear out prematurely, excessively, without warning, the vehicle malfunctions, the 'check engine light'remains illuminated, and the carmisfires or stops. Toldit will take $7,000.00 to fix the problem. I have all my records. Spent $5,000 in 2015 for repairs alone. Paid to own a mb to get forty thousand miles out of it before it needs motor work. My ml350 engine light should not be illuminating at <40,000 miles its a defective motor. Clearly a manufacture factory defect. $7000.00, to get a check engine light off: majeed seifi,et al. V. Mercedes benz proves mbusa knows of this problem. Known mb 2006 ml350 internal problem (factory defect, lemon etc.) that was not disclosed to me. Not from normal wear and tear, and from no fault of my own.

Our ml 350 has 132213 miles as of 10-2-18, and it's got an engine fault of 1208 camshaft. We are being told that the balance shaft is bad and needs to be replaced for $6446.82. We talked to mbz customer service, 800-367-6372, ext 8536, and talked to jennifer. And she advised me that because of a law suit, there's nothing that they can do? we've checked on-line, and other owners are having the same issue. We feel that this is a bad part, and needs to be recalled. Thanks,

My car stalled on the street. This is a safety issue. Called dealer, they said turn off and turn on to reset. This worked, however it continued to happened until i brought it to the dealer. They said it was the balance shaft and cost $6000. I called corporate and gave them law suit documentation, ,emails, testimonials and bulletins showing the issues of this vehicle. Because of the miles and car not covered under warranty, they would reduce cost by 25%. That is still to high. This car at the time should have been covered and the dealer recommended turning off/on the car to reset. For a new car to be given that advise is insane. There should be a recall on this vehicle because their tons of information on the web, emails and etc. Regarding this issue. I need my car fixed asap. I can't afford this high repair.

While traveling in the center lane on a major parkway at the posted speed limit, our 2006 mercedes-benz ml350 experienced a complete engine failure.the car would not accelerate; steering was compromised, as was braking.braking and steering were very difficult, but possible allowing the car to be guided to the shoulder.all four family members were present including our two young sons. After being towed to a local authorized dealer repair shop, 4 days after the incident...the problem was reported as ?engine jumped time? and the repair department would have to ?remove engine and tear down to find cause of failure?most likely needs engine assembly?.as that the quoted price of the diagnostics and repair exceeds the current value of the car by several thousand dollars, the car was returned without further diagnostics or repairs.at no time in the past 4 years has there been a ?check engine? light nor were there any indicators of any serious mechanical issues as per the car?s onboard computer reporting system or in general daily operations.again, it is important to note, that there were no indicator lights or warnings prior to the failure.it is also important to note that in january of 2010, the same authorized dealer repair department mentioned above conducted the following repairs:?removed engine, replaced balance shaft, replaced oil pump, replaced cam solenoids, replaced gaskets?? in response to a persistent ?check engine? light.our records indicate that the 2010 ?check engine light? occurred at 55,395 miles.this recent failure has occurred, minus the ?check engine light? or any other indicators, at 99,424 miles.our research indicates that this may be a known issue with this particular engine.

My 2006 merc ml350, broke down on me 10/22/16, as soon as i got off the freeway because i was hearing a crackling sound from the engine. I was able to drive in a local parking lot to avoid embarrassment. This vehicle is always needing something, and at this time it was hard to turn the steering wheel to park it because the serpentine (vbelt) had unraveled its way from the alternator pulley!! the lord had saved my life! same year in march fremont dealership said i needed to replace my air condensor but never said anything about my belt being worn or cracked or anything about this. This should have been noticed at that present time. They misinformed me at that time about the vbelt needing to be replaced and tried to sell me a air mass sensor. Mercedes knows about vehicle 2006 year and all the parts that are malfunctioning and wont lift a finger to recall or reimburse or pay entirely. I would have died on the freeway had this v belt would have came off!tookbitvin for repairs and the dealer is requesting $2350 to replace air condition unit and they will have to open up alternator & adjust + vbelt. Campaign anyone or botcott mbusa!!

Balance shaft needs to be replaced $6500 from mercedes benz dealer quote original owner oil changed 8 times in 72000 miles.

The balance shaft on my ml350 has gone bad.the vehicle was in motion on a local street when it suddenly started to stall and eventually cut off.the steering wheel got stiff and i had to forcefully turn it to pull to the side of the road.after attempting to start it again it would only repeat what it's done before which is stall and cut off.after having it towed to my mechanic i was told that the balance shaft is bad.my mechanic advised me to call mercedes to see if they would fix it out of good faith but that got me no where.there are countless blogs about mercedes owners who are having the exact same issue with the m272 engine.a rep for mercedes admitted to me that they are aware of the issue but still refuses to recall.the repair quote is @ about $5000 which is out of my range so the vehicle remains parked.i understand that there was a class action lawsuit but the time frame has expired by the time i purchased this car.

Check engine light came on, and got both codes p0016 and p0017. Upon further investigation, this seems to be a known defect by mercedes benz for the balancer shaft worn sprocket issue.this is an expensive repair, almost the cost of the vehicle! mbusa picks and chooses who they will help? wow, wish i never got this car!

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz ml350. While driving at various speeds, the check engine warning indicator illuminated continuously and the engine stalled. The contact stated that the vehicle also lunged forward when the brake pedal was depressed without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000. Updated 05/10/16*lj

I was on my way to pick up my spouse from the airport one night without warning the vehicle started making a rocking motion and the orange check engine light came on. I pulled over, turned off the engine and exited the vehicle to see what was wrong, i re-entered the vehicle and tried to re-start the vehicle but it would not start. I called mercedes benz and they proceeded to have my car towed to the shop. I waited 4 months for them to assist me in fixing my vehicle since the warranty has expired and i have no extended, they refused to assist me even though they told me that the manifold had broken off and may get into the engine and that i may need a new engine of which i ended up purchasing a low mileage engine. Prior to this i paid $1500. For them to fix 2 leaks on my power steering and as of now my vehicle is leaking oil and making that same loud noise as before they fixed the leaks. I have been very very upset with them, my vehicle has been giving me too much trouble for not having 100 thousand miles. Please help. I call their corporate office and even wrote a letter to them and all they offered me was $2000 towards the purchase of a new vehicle, you may think that a mercedes benz will be able to do better thatfor their customers. I was lied to by them pertaining to the engine, once i was told that the engine was bad then i was told that it was not bad. I took my car from them and took it to an independent car repairing.

I am the owner of a mercedes 2006 ml350. I have had my cam sensor and crank shaft sensor repaired 3 times since i have owned the vehicle. I initially had my car serviced at park place in dallas on lemmon avenue. My check engine light is on again after having this same issue repaired several times. I can no longer afford to keep repairing for a problem that is going to continue to cause problems. After having these items repaired i took my vehicle to get an inspection and i failed the inspection. So i took it to a mechanic and he told me that my balance shaft gear needs to be replaced which is the reason for my sensors to continually wear out. This repair cost $6000.00 and i cannot afford it. My check engine light has been on for months and i have an expired inspection sticker because i cannot afford the cost of this repair.

Letter from senator nelson re constituent re 2006 ml mercedes benz suv ml 350 recall issues.the consumer stated there was a class action lawsuit filed against mercedes benz, due to an inferior balance shaft in the engine. A number of vehicles including his were defective. The repair for the vehicle ends on june 16, 2016. However, the consumer was informed he was not eligible, because his vehicle exceeded 125,000 miles.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350.while driving 65 mph, the contact heard a loud beep and noticed a flash of warning lights across the instrument panel.the check engine, (!), and brake lights illuminated simultaneously.the vehicle seized to a jolt, released, coasted, and then failed.he had difficulty restarting the vehicle, but when it did, all of the lights illuminated again, including esp go to workshop.he said that his foot was on the accelerator the entire time.the vehicle is currently with the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 23,000.

Vehicle does not accelerate.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. While driving approximately 60 mph, the check engine warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The warning light remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where a diagnostic test was performed that detected a trouble code. The technician stated the engine sprocket was faulty. The contact was waiting for a response for the repair coverage under the service warranty. The manufacturer was not made aware of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 56,000.

Balance shaft problem on the 2006 mercedes benz ml350 - i live in south fl and i have a 2006 mercedes ml350 with less than 50,000 miles and just last week got a check engine light. Took it to the dealership in pompano beach and they told me that the balance shaft has to be replaced and it will cost $6600. This is a known problem and the manufacturer makes no effort to recall the vehicles and replace the parts for free. I cannot afford to pay for this factory defect, mercedes benz should pay for it.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350.the contact stated the check engine light continued to flash on the instrument cluster. The dealer stated that the balance shift malfunctioned and needed to be replaced.the balance shift also caused the vehicle to stall and had become a major problem with this year, make and model vehicle which could potentially cause a crash to occur.the vehicle was not replaced.the failure mileage was 62,000.

Around 45,000 miles the check engine light came on. I took the vehicle to a mercedes benz dealer service department and was notified that the balance shaft needs to be replaced. In order to replace the balance shaft, the engine needs to be taken out of the vehicle and taken apart. Estimated cost $6,000. The service dept. Told me that it was due to a part that was not hardened properly during manufacturing. There is a technical service bulletin (s-b-03.30/08i) that was originally issued in 2007 which was found in internet searching, however it seems like mercedes benz knows that the check engine light (on the majority of these vehicles) will not come on until when the warranty has expired. Since this fix is a huge expense, they are not going to issue a recall even though it is clearly a safety concern. If i would've have continued to drive the vehicle in this condition, eventually the balance shaft would have continued to break its teeth resulting in engine failure. Continuing to drive the vehicle in the condition is not safe, it is a matter of time before the vehicle stops running and the engine would need to be replaced. The mercedes benz usa replaced our balance shaft or pay for it people who already fixed.

Owner of 2006 ml350 check engine light came on took infor diagnosis with cam shaft failure, mb does not offer any help and knew of this issue.class action lawsuit in nj already started, hoping one will get started in sc.cost to repair is $6,000 to the customer. This is usury, and deception by the wonderful automakers of this great foreign car maker with an office in the usa.when you call mb usa they advise you to speak with the service manager that offers no help.

Transmission codes do not switch gears happens alot how i'm driving have to get codes reset every 2 to 3 days!

2006 ml350 mercedes benz - balance shaft needs to be replaced in a car with under 50,00 miles on it.they want 8,000 to do the job and i am finding more and more people who are having the same issue with this car.i was directed to you by a facebook site that is for people who have the same issue with their mercedes.i think this is a flaw in the car and they should be recalled.

2006 mercedes ml350, balancer shaft worn at ~75000 mileage. Balancer shaft gear and/or camshaft chain got totally worn, that will lead to engine lockup at any time if not fixed. I hear similar complains from other mercedes owners with m272 and m273 engines manufactured in 2006. There also is internal mercedes technical service bulletin s-b-03.30/08i from october 24, 2008 for this issue. Also there is a class action complaint case 2:33-av-00001 document 9629 filed 10/05/10 in nj us district court. Based on my past experience as engineered, i conclude premature balancer shaft wear caused by mb supply chain issues (i.e. Bad parts). Issue on my car have been diagnosed in 06/2011 and i have been offered a repair for 5 different issues (pretending balancer shaft fixed for free) with labor charges shuffled around to mask balancer shaft issue. Total repair bill is around $10000 which is full price amount for all 5 issues fixed.

I own a 2006 ml mercedes-benz with 47k miles. The engine light came on in the car, i had it checked by an independent mercedes technician who informed me that the balance shaft must be replaced in the car. He gave me a "star bulletin" which is an internal memo produced by mercedes showing the have known about this defect since august 2007 and have done nothing about notifying owners of thecars with engines effected. It is i have been told a common place issue and in fact a class action lawsuit has been filedin new jersey against mercedes over this issue. The problem has to be repaired or the engine can be damaged beyond repair, the cost i have been quoted for the repair is $6000. It was made very clear to me by the technician that a car with 47k miles should not have such an issue and that it is a design flaw that mercedes thus far has not stepped up to remedy with car owners.

On may 18, 2011, i took my 2006 ml350 to an authorized mb dealer due to the check engine light indicator being illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed with the balance shaft failure. The cost to repair is approx 5k.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350.the air bag light beeped and remained illuminated.at 10,000 miles, the vehicle was serviced.afterwards, the contact heard a noise in the rear of the vehicle while driving between 20-50 mph.the dealer test drove the vehicle and was unable to duplicate the failure.on december 25, 2006, the contact was involved in a crash and the air bags deployed.there were no injuries.a police report was filed.the vehicle was serviced after the crash.three to four months later, the tires were losing air rapidly and the low pressure light illuminated, which indicated there was not enough pressure in the tires.at 20,000 miles, the vehicle was serviced.after the repair, the contact stated that the noise was becoming louder in the rear of the vehicle.she paid $600 for the repair and the dealer stated that they did not hear a noise after diagnosing the failure.at 26,000 miles, the vehicle failed inspection due to the tires, struts, shocks and a power steering leak.she called the sales dealer and they informed her to take the vehicle to a dealer in another state.the vehicle was towed two and a half weeks ago due to the power steering leak.the part for the repair had to be ordered from overseas.the dealer stated that they replaced the shocks, but the noise grew louder.the dealer also stated that the cause of the noise was due to the shocks.on january 24, 2008, there was an odor present and the noise recurred.after inspecting the vehicle, it was discovered that a belt was off track.the belt was adjusted and the dealer jump started the vehicle.the vehicle was towed to the dealer again on january 28, 2008.the computer had to be reset, but continued to malfunction when the vehicle was purchased.the current mileage was 26,206 and failure mileage was 7,000.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. The contact stated that she took the vehicle into the dealer for an oil change and when the vehicle was returned to her it began to lunge forward.the vehicle felt as if the transmission was dragging. The dealer was contacted and stated that they didn't do anything to cause the vehicle to exhibit the jerking motion. The contact took the vehicle to another dealer who diagnosed the failure stating that the manifold was defective. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure had recurred. There have been no additional repairs made to the vehicle. The failure mileage was 103,000. The current mileage was 116247.

I purchased mercedes ml 350, 2006 in april 2006. From driver's seat, the left side view mirror is only partially visible! i showed this to hbl dealership in tysons corner virginia, and they agreed to this design issue.when the ac is turned on, many time, due to variation in inside and outside temperatures, smallfog forms out of the window ata location, that the fognow completely obscures the side view mirror! themirror cannot be used any moree by the driver, causing a safety hazard! again the issue is agreed by the dealership as design issue.contacted mercedez benz at 1800-367-6372 ext 6, id# is 4635. Right rear taillight had an electrical fire that started in the wire housing. The car was parked (stationary)

My ml350 has had a problem with the primary brake lights burning out. Automatically the vehicle is switching to the substitute brake lights. This is the second set of brake lights on the vehicle in less than 1-month. I just replaced them 2-days ago with a new set of sylvania bulbs purchased from advanced auto as per the vehicle make, model and year. I am concerned that the problem could originate from a possible short in the electrical system and/or poor grounding.

I just purchased a 2006 mercedes ml350. Ive had problems opening the trunk and the upper left and right brake lights do not work. Bulbs were replaced and still they're not working. Bulb contacts are known to burn up causing a needed update for the tail/brake lamp wiring repair harness and bulb sockets.found a forum where a technician is aware of this issue with this vehicle. Website is justanswer.com please see the post https://www.justanswer.com/mercedes/6gpj8-mercedes-benz-ml500-2006-ml500-left-right.htmlalso the latch for the trunk stops functioning. The trunk can only be opened from the inside via safety release. This is also a known problem for this car.have there been other consumers complaining about this problem and can there be a potential recall on this car for these repairs? these are safety issues.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. The contact stated that the vehicle suddenly burst into flames. The vehicle was destroyed. The fire department was contacted, who verified that the fire originated from the rear tail light. No injuries were reported. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 78,000.

I have a 2006 me/be ml350 where the tail lights and stop lights don't work properly.this is a safety issue.the system goes into back up mode where another set of lights go on,this causes the computer to give false messages.the dealer wants over $300 for a "rewiring kit" and the manufacturer will not help.i feel the tail lights/stop light wiring should last the life of the car, which has not been in an accident or misused.a rewiring kit tells me this is a known problem.i found nhtsa # 10028025 which relates to this problem but i've had no luck with the manufacturer or the dealer.my question is-does this tsb apply to my car and what can i do?thank you

"takata recall".in house wiring,3rd brake light, turn markers ,brake lights all non operational. Taken to dealership problem stilloccurs!

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. The contact stated that the vehicle would fail to start. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician replaced the fuel pump relay. The vehicle was repaired. However, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.

Approximately one month later while attempting to exit the vehicle, the contact noticed that the front passenger door remained stuck from the inside. She was forced to crawl to the driver side seat to exit the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they performed a diagnostic test and replaced the right side door actuator. The contact did inform the manufacturer of the failure. The current mileage was 73,240 and the failure mileage was 73,000. Updated 10/27/2011 *ln

2006 mercedes ml350 75k no warning light or check engine light/unable to drive, vehicle running. Drive gears not moving or reverse not working/towed to mercedes dealer/service advisory need replace complete transmission will cost 6.5k to replace transmission. After research. Mercedes u.s.a have a class action complaint. Defective idle gears/these defective gears wear out prematurely, excessively, and without warning, causing the vehicle to malfunction, the "check engine light" to remain illuminated, and the vehicle to misfire and /or store driving. Mercedes actual knowledge and intentional concealment of the defect due to company reputation don't want the public to know and may hurt the company image. I was shock after what i was explained by mercedes advisory not taking any responsible for defected gears and wanted to charge me. Very bad experience with mercedes.

Front differential for my mercedes ml 350 year 2006 needs to be replaced after only 52000 miles.

Around 52,000 miles the check engine light came on.i took the vehicle to a mercedes benz dealer service department and was notified that the balance shaft needs to be replaced.in order to replace the balance shaft, the engine needs to be taken out of the vehicle and taken apart.estimated cost $4,000 to $7,500.the service dept. Told me that it was due to a part that was not hardened properly during manufacturing.there is a technical service bulletin (s-b-03.30/08i) that was originally issued in 2007, however it seems like mercedes benz knows that the check engine light (on the majority of these vehicles) will not come on until after 50,000 miles, when the warranty has expired.since this fix is a huge expense, they are not going to issue a recall even though it is clearly a safety concern.if we would've have continued to drive the vehicle in this condition, eventually the balance shaft would have continued to break its teeth resulting in engine failure.continuing to drive the vehicle in the condition is not safe, it is a matter of time before the vehicle stops running and the engine would need to be replaced. The service department replaced our balance shaft, the parts used are too numerous to list along with labor codes. Here is a brief breakdown: 28.8 labor hours total $2,940.48, parts $1,263.50 (consumer cost), $925.49 (net cost).the failure has been corrected, however the service dept. Told me all of these vehicles made during this time will eventually have this failure and it's a safety concern, not to mention a very expensive repair.i feel there should be a recall issued for these vehicles and mercedes benz should be required to notify consumers of this failure.i was an original purchaser and had mine repaired, however there are people out there buying these vehicles used unaware of the problem, not only stuck with a $4,000 + repair, but also unaware of the safety hazard.mercedes benz should take responsibility.

Grinding noise in front diagnosed as failed front differential.

Balance shaft on my mercedes ml350 has worn cam causing checking engine light to come on and the timing to be off.mercedes service bulletin states that the balance shaft needs to be replaced and that the material of new replacement shaft has been updated.this has happening to nearly all mercedes benz equipped with m272 engine up to serial no. 2729..30 468993 or m273 engine up to serial no. 2739..30 088611 and occurs after 55,000 miles.mercedes wants $4,000 - $6,000 to replace defect part.

2006 mercedes benz balance shaft is defective.the defect causes the car to sometimes sputter when accelerating, almost was killed by a truck as i turned left, or stall out completely.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. The contact stated that the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated that the balance shaft and other parts needed to be replaced. The manufacturer had not been notified. The failure mileage was 85,448.

My 2006 ml350 (automatic) has a transmission problem where shifting down causes the vehicle to lunge forward. All gear shifts (up or down) are hard and can be felt by the occupants in the car in the form of a jerky motion. Scouring the internet for this issue shows that this is a widely reported problem. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis who offered to replace the transmission for $7500. When asked about the root cause of the issue, the dealer stated that they would not know until they take the transmission apart and would end up costing roughly the same as replacing the transmission. The down shifting presents a danger when making sudden stops due to unforeseen traffic changes in front of the vehicle as braking hard causes the vehicle to down shift quickly which causes the vehicle to lunge forward.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. The contact stated that the vehicle would lose power when the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle would not accelerate over 10 mph. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed and located the failure at the transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000 and the approximate current mileage was 115,000.

At approximately 70k miles, i began to notice a low-frequency whining noise in the front end of my ml-350 at speeds above 40 mph.the noise became more prevalent when i took my foot off of the accelerator at higher speeds.first, replaced all four tires with michelin "latitude tour hp" - $1,300 (including alignment). The noise still occurred. Next, took to mb specialist, who recommended both wheel bearing be replaced - cost $425/side.the bearings were replaced and noise still occurred.mb specialist recommended checking differential oil for metal - found lots of metal fragments in differential oil.installation of new differential was ~$3,500.mb specialist stated that his parts distributor said that they sell at least one-to-two late model ml-350 front end differentials per month.in my opinion, it seems as though there is a flaw in the differential's design or manufacturing process, as i seen several reports of the same differential issues with [relatively]-low-mileage/late-model mb ml-350 suvs.i would like to see mb research this issue, and possibly instate a recall or reimburse mb owners who've already affected costly repairs on their low-mileage ml-350's front end differentials.

I recently started noticing a slight humming sound coming from the front of my suv. I took it to the service center and was told the front differential needs to be replace at a cost of $3668.00. I was told they just go bad and also they just replaced two more here lately.

2006 mercedes ml350, front differential worn at ~75000 mileage, that could lead to lockup at any time if not fixed. From talking with the three mercedes dealerships in my local area, it seems there is a very high incidence of front differential problems on 2006 ml's.

Took car to mb dealership in north olmsted ohio because front end of car and steering wheel started shaking and vibrating excessively when the car was driven in excess of 60 mph.car drove fine under that speed.i almost was caused to drive off of road at multiple points because of excessive vibration and lack of steering control.condition did not occur at lower speeds. Car was 1 week outside of mfr warranty.was told by mb dealership that car needed new front differential.i called mb national to complain about an alleged luxury car's front differential failing only after 40k miles.they told me it was not their problem.car continues to have problem to this day (1 year later).i was told that the car was safe to drive.i have since been looking for a used differntial because a new one w/install is over $3k.it seems as if i am not the only ml owner experiencing these problems.mb went with a new 7 speed transmission that year which may lead to problems.

2006 mercedes ml350. Upon turning 78k miles a check engine indicator appeared. Upon examination a sprocket in the timing chain assembly was worn and in danger of failure. Within one day - and with very little effort - i found two others with the same motor having the same problem. Mercedes prides itself on excellent engineering and manufacturing and charged me $50k for such excellence. With this kind of mileage there should be no problem with this type of machinery. Apparently mb agreed. Upon working with a local dealership mb paid 50% of the bill which totaled $4200 with discounts. This item should truly be a recall and should not have cost me a penny. Mb is trying to keep this situation quiet as not to incur extensive damages. I would like to see a recall take place for others who will inevitably have this same experience at some point.

Mercedes benz balance shaft problem (drivetrain) on 2006 ml350a technical service bulletin was issued in 2007 by mercedes benz but owners such as myself were never notified.

Warning message displayed that said take to workshop before putting in gear. Vehicle would not ship out of park. Tried several times, finally turned ignition off , tried again and vehicle went into drive. This same incident happened again on november 26, 2014.

My car suddenly lost power in the highway, and didn't want to accelerate, causing car to high rpm rev, going into limp mode and not accelerate, almost causing my family and to have a serious accident.vehicle was diagnosed by a shop which stated my speed sensor conductor plate is defective...upon doing research, i have noticed that this is common dangerous issue on the 06 mercedes ml models..mercedes even has a class action suite against them due to this issue..

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. The contact stated that the driver parked in a residential driveway with the engine running and exited the vehicle for thirty seconds. After attempting to re-enter the vehicle, the vehicle abnormally lunged forward, dragging the driver as she attempted to stop the vehicle. The driver noticed that the gear shifter had abnormally shifted out of park. Before the driver was able to fully enter the vehicle, the vehicle crashed into a residential gate. The driver sustained minor abrasions to the head but did not seek any medical treatment. The police were contacted the following day. The manufacturer was also contacted and offered no assistance. The failure and current mileages were approximately 42,689.

Car does not down shift when slowing down to stop. Then when you try to accelerate it barely moves.one has to place the transmission into park, then turn engine off and then restart engine to reset transmission. Fault codes in the onboard computer all point to valve body conductor plate on transmission. Mercedes will not sell or replace part to independent mechanics. They will only sell it to dealers which i believe are told to diagnose a different problem. In other words work around the problem to generate income before actually trying to fix the actual problem. This is a well documented problem amongst ml 350 owners with some paying thousands and still not having the problem corrected.please look into this because this can become a safety issue especially at a busy traffic light.

The vehicle is getting stuck in 7 gear on the freeway and not down-shifting to allow passing. Even when coming to a stop, the car will remain in 7th gear.this is a dangerous condition because the consumer does not know the car is not shifting correctly. Mercedes is aware of valvebody and conductor plate issues with these cars.

This vehicle has had nothing but problems.at around 32,000 it needed transmission repair.unfortunately it was past the three year offered warranty.at around 45,000 miles, i was told that it needed new shocks.all of the repair men that i spoke with could not believe that this vehicle would need suspension work at such low mileage.after reading these posts, it is clearly a defect in the suspension.meanwhile, i went through another set of tires because i am still waiting to repair the suspension.i guess i can wait no longer and will need to come out of pocket again.this vehicle has been a nightmare and based on this experience, i will never buy another mercedes.

While driving at most any speed, transmission periodically goes into no gear or a single gear (low or a higher gear) and 'limp mode' without warning....sometimes a "check engine" light. Very scary especially in traffic on the freeway. Bought the vehicle earlier this year with 60,000 miles on it...i am72 and wife is71...she is afraid to drive it because of the uncertainty of the drive train.i finally took it to mercedes benz as the would not sell mymy independent mechanic the parts to repair problem.mercedes says that i need to have the 722.9 transmissionvalve body replaced at $3,000 period. I have read of a myriad of similar problems with other owners of cars with this type of transmission....even class action suits.i believe that this is a very dangerous condition that must be resolved and repaired by the manufacturer. I even called mercedes benz of north america and their representative said he knew of no problems with this model of transmission. I also read that they are not changinganyparts....just reprogramming the transmissionto not go into limp mode and not activating the check engine light.....how can iinsure that my vehicle will be repaired correctly and be safe to drive?

There is a systemic problem with the mercedes benz 7g tronic 722.9 transmission control module which causes the vehicle's transmission to, without notice, fail to shift out of 2nd gear which creates a serious safety hazard while driving including entering the freeway and attempting to merge into traffic.the issue is well documented on a number of website on the internet which includes support groups including one advocating and soliciting a class action suit in the state of ca.the nhtsa needs to look into this manufacturer's defect so as to prevent serious injury including the loss of life.mb usa is very much aware of the issue which requires the replacement of transmission control module (tcm).adding insult to injury, mb restricts the sale of the tcm so that the repair can only be made at an authorized mb dealership adding to the consumer's cost to repair the vehicle.the estimate repair cost is $1,500 at the dealership.cost estimates outside of the dealership, if the item was able to be purchased, is less than half that.i was nearly rear ended by a tractor trailer while entering i-91 in ct just last week when the vehicle unexpectedly went into what mb calls "limp mode" when the check engine light comes on and the vehicle speed is restricted to 30 mph immediately.this near death experience was quite alarming.i contacted mb usa and they denied any knowledge that the problem was at all due to defective manufacturing.as an individual consumer we have no rights in this matter to eliminate this manufacturers safety defect while mb restricts and monopolizes the repair of a problem that they created.the failure of this part can happen at any time regardless of vehicle miles.

I bought a 2006 mercedes 3 years ago thinking i would have a car for a lifetime boy did i go wrong. In the past 3 months i have had major problems and mercedes doesn't care. The first issue i had to replace the crank shaft $6000 plus for repair i almost went crazy so i started researching on the internet and found out there was a class action law suit for this issue so i phoned mercedes and they agree to pick up half of the repair. One month later car starts making winding noise take it back to them and now they say it is the front differential $5500 to repair i start to research that on the internet and there are so many complaints for my same issue on the same year and model so i go back to mercedes however this time not willing to help. How many complaints is it going to take for something to be done to such a powerful company like mercedes. I truly do not think this is fair and us the consumers are being ripped off.

Vehicle was making a roaring noise, rear differential was gone and had to be replaced. Front differential is also bad and will have to be replaced in the near future.

When i drove my vehicle at low speed and came to stop, the vehicle jolted by moving forward. I believed this was caused by jerky transmission, and there was a bug in the software that controlled the transmission. I talked to a service guyat my dealership about this, and he told me that there was no fix at this time, awaiting an answer from mercedes benz.

2006 ml350 mercedes benz - check engine light has come on and the garage tells me that the balance shaft gears have worn and need to be replaced in a car with just 67,000 miles on it. The price is 5500 and there are many people i've heard from with the same issue with this car. I think this is an obvious flaw in this batch of engines and that there should be a recall as this is serious if the chains actually come off the gears.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. When accelerating from a complete stop, the engine stalled without warning.he was able to restart the engine and resume normal operation.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for inspection.the technician stated the failure was contributed to the transmission which required replacement.the vehicle has not been repaired for the malfunction.the failure and current mileages were 61,000. Updated 01/20/10. *ljupdated 01/21/10.

Dt:2006 mercedes benz ml350.the contact stated therewashard anderratic transmission shift.he did not believe the defect was in the transmission.the vehicle joltedat speeds under 45 mph.the vehicle has been to the dealership four times, where they replaced the electronic hydraulic control unit each time.the problem persisted, and the dealership was unable to diagnose the problem.

Benz ml 350 - i was sitting at a traffic light and when i attempted to pull off, the vehicle started driving very slow and rough.i pulled to the side of the road; turned off the engine and waited for a few seconds.when i started the vehicle again and attempted to drive away, the vehicle drove properly.when i got home, i called my mercedes dealership and advisedthem of what happened.i was told that it could have been a "system glitch" and the system just had to "reset" itself.four days later, i was sitting at a traffic light again and when i attempted to pull off, the vehicle would not move.when i put my foot on the gas, it sounded as if it was in neutral.the vehicle would shift from drive to reverse to neutral, but would not move in any direction.i had my vehicle towed to my dealer.i was then advised that my vehicle needed a new transmission.

Hello i live in ny and i have a 2006 ml350. Recently i brought my car in for a check engine light to mercedes benz. They state the car needs new balance shaft and timing gears. The car only has 46,000 miles. This should not be possible. The cost is over $5,000 to get fixed. Mercedes will not cover it. This seems to be a defect part. In researching the problem i found out i wasn't the only with this issue. There is a class action lawsuit in new jersey as well as other states. My inspection has expired and can't not pass without the repair which is a safety issue. Here is the link to the class action lawsuit http://www.courthousenews.com/2010/10/07/mercedes.pdf. They should make a recall for this problem.

Power train:automatic transmissionheavy jolt and skippage at startup from first to second gear and heavy jolt while stopping.mercedes states it is a software problem however there isno softwareavailable to fix the problem.

-the contact owns a 2006 mercedes 350 m class.the driver was unable to shift the transmission into drive to move forward or into reverse gear.the vehicle suddenly accelerated forward and hit a cement block and continued to lurch forward several times before she could stop the vehicle.the power steering and brakes were inoperable.the warning light indicatorappeared on the vehicleafter hitting the cement block.she didnot recall which indicator light. The vehicle sustained front end passenger damage.the failure and the current mileage was 10,851. The contact was able to drive the vehicle home.the vehicle was towed to the dealer, and the mechanic replaced the compressor.the contact received a minor bruise.the consumer stated the air bags did not deploy. Transmission codes do not switch gears happens alot how i'm driving have to get codes reset every 2 to 3 days!

Front differential for my mercedes ml 350 year 2006 needs to be replaced after only 52000 miles.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes ml350. The contact stated that there was a wining noise coming from the front of the vehicle. The noise happened at low and high speeds as well as when making a turn. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and was told that the front differential needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 73,000.

Warning light illuminated on dash. Safety restraint system (sds) malfunction. Took car to nearest mercedes dealer and they stated that the the driver side airbag ignition switch was malfunctioning and contact fault in driver front seat harness.suggestedifile a complaint with nhtsa and mercedes benz usa to get repaired.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. The contact was driving approximately 65 mph with the heated seat in activation. The contact noticed smoke emitting from the front driver's seat, in which the heater overheated and caused a burned hole in the cushion and padding. The contact sustained a minor burn to the left hip as a result of the excessive heat penetration. There were no flames present. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the heated seat wire was disengaged. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 178,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. The contact stated that the seat warmer overheated and caused the coils to burn through. The contact mentioned that she sustained second degree burns. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the seat heater had malfunctioned and the seat needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 86,000.

I started the vehicle and as it was a cold morning i put my drivers seat heater on. Shortly after putting it on i felt a burning on the left side of my back, i pulled the car over and noticed a fire on the lower portion of the drivers seat(back wing). The fire burned through my jacket and burned my lower back.

I'm the owner of a 2006 mercedes benz ml350 4matic, currently at 58,645 miles with outside extended warranty until 2013. Recently i had the heated seat turned on which i started the car and after about 2 minutes i smelled a burning smell coming from inside the cabin and then started seeing smoke coming from the left side of the driver side seat bolster around the waist area. I found a hole burnt the size of a nickel and smoke was coming out from it. It was bright red as i could see inside the holei immediately turned off the heat seat and slowly the burning went away. I took my car to a mercedes benz dealer the next and they denied that there is no heating element in that part of the seat and refused to cover under outside warranty. At the dealership i did try to turn the heated seat on but no smoke was coming out so i wasn't able to proof the seating element was actually causing the problem.but i read numerous incidents online with the same exact problem.

2006 mercedes ml350 at 91,100 miles driver smelled a burning smell and later found a burned hole in the drivers seat, driver noticed smell when seat warmer was turned on.dealership is requiring the driver to pay for the repairs.this isn't normal wear and tear and is extremely dangerous to the driver as well as other drivers should the seat catch a flame.why is there no recall?

I was driving with the driver's side electric seat heater turned on. I noticed a burning smell and felt a burning pain on my back. After exiting the vehicle i saw that the seat heater had burned a hole through the leather driver's seat and through my jacket.

After driving only 30 min in morning traffic w/seat heat on, i smelled a burning smell and the hip area of the seat was very hot.pulled over, turned car off, and found seat heat had burned through the seat upholstery making a hole approx. 1" h x 1/2" w.question below asks y/n if there was a fire.answered y due to burning; did not see any flames.used some water on it immediately and a few minutes later at home to make sure there was no burning/smoldering inside the seat.

Turned on the driver side heated car seat and after a few minutes, there was a burning smell. Pulled over and found it had burned a hole through the foam and leather on the lower left side of the seat about 1" wide and 2" long.

After driving for a few minutes, my husband smelled something burning.he could not figure out where it was coming from until he felt his back being burned.he immediately turned off the heated seat and pulled over.there was smoke and a hole burned through the seat about 2 inches in diameter.the seat burned a hole through his fleece jacket &t-shirt leaving what looked like a cigarette burn on his back.if my husband had not been driving my car, i probably would not have made the connection that it was caused by the heating mechanism, because i thought that only the bottom of the seats were wired for that.this occurred on the back portion of the seat on his left side.i just fear that someone would panic or it could turn into a full blown fire (i am sure we were just seconds away from seeing flames if the mechanism had not been turned off so fast).furthermore, if we were driving on the highway at a higher speed it very easily could have caused a fatal accident because it caused him to veer into the other traffic lane (luckily no cars were in the lane at the time).i have read many stories about this happening to other people and i have checked all online sources for safety recalls on this car. What a disservice it would be if mercedes does not replace this seat and make it right free of charge.one bad accident is too many, we should not wait until someone gets badly burned or killed before something is done.we have an appt. To drop off the car next week for evaluation of the problem and the service advisor at the dealer has been very helpful so far, so i am hoping for a positive outcome.but i could not go without reporting this because it is a very serious safety risk and i would hate to see anyone else get injured.it is clearly a manufacturing/electrical problem and the driver has no control over it's spontaneous occurrence.

Contact was driving, approx. 15 min. After engine start and seat heater turn-on.contact felt a burning sensation on posterior/hip.contact stopped car and got out.there was a burn hole in the driver's seat back at lower left.there were two burn holes through contacts pants.later examination showed a second degree (blister) burn on contacts hip.this is not a warranty claim as the dealer suggests, but, rather a serious manufacturer defect that causes burn injury (check the history of documented complaints on the internet)...

About 2 minutes after turning on the driver's seat heater, the driver's seat caught on fire.a hole burned through the driver's seat and burned my back.luckily, i recognized the problem quickly enough that i was only slightly burned.my husband and my 1 year old daughter were in the car with me.i was driving at the time, so my clothes could have caught fire.if we had turned on the seat warmer while warming up the car, the entire car could have gone up in flames.

Seat warmer malfunction, i was driving and had to pull over as my seat warmer created a fire inside my seat and burned 3 holes thru my seat and singed my clothing.drivers side seat on left side of seat.mercedes ml 3502006

On jan. 6, 2017 northbound on hwy 52. Drivers seat heater had been on approximately 10 minutes when i felt a very hot spot on my upper left side. Then i smelled something burning. The seat heater had burned through the upholstery on the outboard bolster of the drivers seat and started burning through my coat.

I was driving and i turned on my seat heater, and i saw smoke. I burned my clothing and have a little burn on my back. The seat was burning and had a little fire.

I was in an accident rear ending another car (straight on- nose to tail of other car)at freeway speed (55-60) and the breaks seemed like they were spongy/soft (my best description) and at that speed and direct hit my airbags should have went off, it was a pretty solid impact so much my front end and hood, frame bent.

Rusted steel break lines that takes break fluid to rear from the engine compantment

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. The contact stated that the parking brake handle became detached from the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.kmj

Rusted and leaking break lines above gas tank of the drivers side.rusted all the engine area.it has holes just right above the gas tank.

My abs system isbroke in my ml 350 mercedes benz 2006, it only 3 years old i purchase it in 5/2006.its not under warranty because it has 64,000 miles, this is still a safety issue and the abs system i was told by a mercedes service manager this rarely goes out on a car, but why no one wants to fix it. It costs 3300 dollars to fix.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz ml350. The contact stated while driving 5 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard extending the stopping distance. The contact attempted to use the parking brake to stop the vehicle however, the parking brake failed to slow the vehicle in a timely manner. The contact stated that the three unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to safely drive the vehicle to the residence. The vehicle was towed to mercedes-benz of bedford located at 18122 rockside road, bedford, oh 44146, (440) 359-6826, to be diagnosed and repaired. The diagnostic test and repair was still pending. The manufacturer was informed of failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. The vin was not available. *as

While traveling on 80 east in new jersey on a rainy day the esp light malfunction showed on the dashboardscreen. At that point the vehicle spun to the right and could not be controlled. The failure of the esp caused the crash.

Brake system on 2006 ml350 has excessive pedal travel causing unsafe braking and jerky stopping.manufacturer and dealer state that this condition is "normal" for the ml series mercedes truck.this travel causes delayed braking and does not exist on another mercedes automobiles.manufacturer to further evaluate the condition or admit any potential safety problem.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz ml350. While driving approximately 15 mph, all the warning indicators illuminated and the vehicle became difficult to steer. The contact also heard a humming noise. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired in october of 2018 by mercedes-benz of cherry hill (2151 nj-70, cherry hill, nj 08002) for the same failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or diagnosed for the recent failure; however, an appointment was scheduled with them in october. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 43,000.

A loss of power steering fluid can damage the power steering pump and may result in diminished power assist for steering which could lead to a crash. What you should do:dealers will replace the power steering hose clamp. The recall is expected to begin on may 23, 2005. Owners should contact mercedes-benz at 1-800-367-6372.summary:on certain passenger vehicles, a hose clamp that secures the power steering fluid cooling hose to the power steering fluid cooler may not provide sufficient clamping force for this connection.consumer was told by the dealer recall was expired and would no longer honor it.

Steering wheels rattles and make groaning noise when turning or hitting bumps. Can distract drivers and cause accidents.

I was stopped at a red light waiting make a left.when the light turned green to make a left, i started going and got to the middle of the intersection when my steering got stuck.i was able to pull the steering wheel to complete a wide left turn.i was safely able to pull into a parking lot, but without a real effort to turn the wheel and again having to make another wide left turn before an oncoming car almost hit me.

In a parking lot, the power steering failed without warning. The steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the steering malfunction. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000. Js

I was driving in my car to work on the city street (santa anita ave going north in the city of arcadia ca), within few minutes after i left the house i felt my hands get hot probably the air bag deployed and the next thing i know my car ran over the center divider and flipped over. Fortunately, i came out of the car dazed and with multiple bruises.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350. While driving at unknown speeds, the steering wheel would become extremely stiff resistant to the contacts attempts to maneuver the steering wheel. The contact was able to locate a recall for the failure (nhtsa recall campaign id number 05v224000: steering: hydraulic power assists system) but was advised by the manufacturer that her vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available and the failure and current mileages were 59,000.

Second year of this same complain. The dealership i bought the car from mention that the mercedes should be taking care of my issues. But that isnt happening. Mercedes just wants to keep charging me . I look up the defects of the car and it tells me exactly the same problem i am having

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz ml350.while the vehicle was parked she attempted to shift the vehicle into reverse but the gear shifter would only shift into drive or neutral.she attempted to shift the vehicle back into park but the vehicle would not shift into park and a message on the dashboard informed her that she could not shift the vehicle into park while it was in motion.after approximately 10 minutes the automatic braking system engaged and she was able to shift the vehicle into park.the vehicle was then shut off and towed to an authorized dealer where the computer system was reprogrammed and the wheel bearings were replaced.she was informed the failure within the wheel bearings resulted in the computer system thinking the vehicle was in motion.the failure recurred once more and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure but the wheel bearings were again repaired.the failure and current mileages were 41,000.updated 01/06/11updated 01/24/11

High-risk design flaw in mercedes 2006 suv.the sun roof safety mechanism (i.e., auto reverse with resistance) does not work whenthe switch is held throughout closure.(the safety mechanism does work when the switch is initiated but not held throughout closure). Although this is acknowledged in the owner's manual, it should be promptly addressed to prevent potential significant accidental injury, especially children. I have similarly informed mercedes benz.please contact me if you wish to discuss this further. Thank you.
