The harmonic balancer pulley deteriorated on my mercedes ml320.if it had gotten worse, i'm afraid it would have disintegrated and done major engine damage and/or caused loss of power sterring.
My 1999 mercedes ml-320 was traveling on a through highway at about 40 mph when it was broadsided at the intersection by another vehicle, which apparently didn't stop at the stop sign. As a result of the impact, my vehicle rolled over twice. The side airbags didn't deploy. I am concerned that they were defective; therefore, i am requesting a safety investigation regarding possible defects in the airbags or devices controlling side airbag deployment.
While driving on the highway, travelling about 50mph,all of a suddendriver's side airbagdeployed.hasn't contacted dealer or manufacturer.
I was hurt in a sandwich type wreck at high speed and none of the airbags deployed!
Car struck in driver's side, damaging both front and rear door ,as well as partially bending the post between the doors.however, the side air bag failed to deploy. Carwastotaledby the insurance company.
Dt:intermittent delay of 7 seconds when given gas. The vehicle has been in the dealership 6 times, and they still haven't been able to figure the problem out.the car has had this problem for 2 years. The car is worse when it's hot outside and when the consumer is pulling out. The car doesn't have the problem when it's cooler outside. The dealership has changed out the pedal value sensor, a slide mechanism for the intake manifold, a wiring harness and fan for the ecm, the fuel pump and fuel filter with upgrades, the ecm,and now the wiring harness has to be changed since it was built in germany.
While driving 25 mph, one of the occupants noticed smoke coming from the left side of the hood.everyone immediately got out of the vehicle.the fire department was contacted, came and extinguished the fire under the hood.the vehicle could no longer be driven.
Total electrical failure after stopping, towed to dealer in va. For repair. Locks popping up and down like a machine gun, dealer has "fixed" 3 times, cd player failure after a month, dealer replaced complete unit, dash warning lights were either off at starting or some on or all off, dealer found no problem, seems to have healed. We do not trust the vehicle which we purchased new anymore. We are constantly awaiting something else to go wrong.
The yaw rate sensor is causing the car to unintended breaking. It started the breaking since i purchased the car in june, however over a week ago the actual car will break while im drive and bring the car to a complete stop and will not go until i cut the car completely off and let it sit for about 10-15 min and turn it back on and then it will drive again.
Went to park the vehicle and it seem to shift into a lower gear an accelerating, causing it to lunge forward into a light pole.
Driving at highway speed 65mph, the ml320 slammed on the front right side break causing truck to swerve right nearly out of control.when stopping and checking the front right tire, hub and brake pad were smoking and very hot
While driving the vehicle at 55mph on average, engine misfired. Consumer stated has to pull of the road, and restarted the engine, but as soon as reachinghigh speed, will be the same problem. Dealer has not yet notified. Vehicle is without warranty.
The harmonic balancer on my 1999 mercedes ml320 engine type m112 failed and resulted in $4,000 to repair.the part failed with no advanced warning.even the mercedes dealership who performed the power steering recall two weeks prior to the failure did not spot any problem and they knew to be looking.i was lucky the failure occurred in my driveway backing out of the garage in stead of on the freeway with an immediate loss of power steering or destruction of the engine.
Driving home from work the car's idle went to zero. This happened half-way home. Its a 30+ mile drive from work to home. Essentially the car just quit operating while merging on the interstate. Power steering was lost and this left my 8 month pregnant wife stranded in the middle of the merging lane to the interstate without the capability to restart the car. Successive tries to start the car failed. Only after 5 minutes the car was able to start and be pulled over to a safe place. Tried a 2nd time to drive it home and it left me stranded again without it being able to restart. Had to be towed on a flatbed tow truck home the remainder of the drive home.
The contact owns a 1999 mercedes benz ml320. While the contact was driving approximately 35 mph, the engine stalled with the illumination of the entire instrument panel. The engine failed to restart and the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who stated the failure was contributed to the crank shaft position sensor. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000. Updated 10/31/11 updated 12/08/11

I had to replace the harmonic balancer, and the main drive shaft bearing on a 1999 ml mercedes with the v-6 motor vin [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
1999 mercedes benz ml320 - harmonic balancer failure resulting in loss of power steering, overheating, damage to fan, and oil pan.*la
While driving a loud noise came fromthe front of the engine. I took the car to the dealer and the crankshft pulley has failed making a hole in the oil pan. The pulley and the oil pan were replaced and found out that this kind of premature failures has happened with this model. The dealer will not pick up the full cost for repairs since the car had 85000 miles. I think mb realizes that they have an issue with this type of failures but will not do a recall.
While driving 30 mph the vehicle's engine stalled without warning.please provide additional information.
I and my 7 year old daughter and her friend were entering my driveway on aug 14,2006, paused to open my garage door from the car and i was slowly moving in. All of a sudden car went out of my control in a flash that i did not even have time to react. It went and hit our other parked car in the garage with such a huge force that the second car literally went and tore the bedroom wall. Our second car is badly damaged on the front, back and one side (scraping a pole in garage) and wall needs fixing too.i truly suspect there is some mechanical problem for the sudden/unintended acceleration that led to this unexpected behavior. So far we found the ignition got jammed (could not start and had to be towed in), other than the bumper/front damages. Car is still in the body shop for repairs, once finished it will be taken to the dealer for further analysis and check up.
Dt: the consumer stated that e oil filter housing failed.when the filter housing failed the oil sprayed all over the engine and the manifold. The oil had been changedon 7-30-2005. The oil filter on failed on august 1, 2005. The oil filter had been tightened and checked. The vehicle ran normally after the oil was changed and the vehicle was started. The owner changed the oil himself. The oil filter takes 8 ' quarts of oil.consumerha not taken the vehicle to the dealership. Instead, he purchased an oil filter,a plastic housing that holds the filter) and corrected the problem himself. Consumer talked to the dealership, andthey said that the part was not covered by the warranty. Tconsumer ha not contacted the manufacturer. Consumersaid that the oil filter designchanged since the oil was changed last, and this new design was suppose to be an improvement.i
Harmonic balancer seal came loose and caused extensive engine damage.this happened while driving on a congested highway at ~60 mph!the local mercedes dealer(regal nissan/mercedes, huntsville, al, ph #256726-0077) claimed this was a unique failure as faras they were concerned.the fix including replacement of the oil pan was ~$900.upon subsequent research i've discovered that this is an extremely common problem.
Engine has died four times while driving.dealer has tried to repair the engine twice but has failed.door locks do not lock when using key fob or the lock button.rather, they pop up and down.
The engine runs for about 10,000 miles before it begins to stall out at unexpected times.this problem has beendiagnosed as a problem with the maf sensor . This sensor(mass air flow) has failed3 times in less than a year in heavy traffic conditions. The vehicle simply shuts down and is hard to restart . This occurence has happened at all speeds and so far i have avoided an accident . I feel that it is a matter of time before the failure of the maf will cause a serious accident.
Vehicle has experienced a no start condition. Dealer has replaced fuel pump twice, but defect still occurs.
The vehicles engine cuts off without warning while driving. Has happened 3 times with owner, and 3 times with dealer. Dealer cant find a solution.
The car's engine dies while driving. I have taken it to the dealer three times. However, they seem to never fix it. My wife will not drive the car because she is worried that it will crash.
The vehicle stalls on highway and does not restart due to unknown cause. Yh
I have been an owner of a 1999 mercedes benz ml320, bought used about 6 months ago. Recently, something went wrong on this vehicle and it started wobbling and making external engine noise. Soon, i discovered that there was a non-metallic part, a ring, the size of a palm was found in my engine bay. I took it to my local mb dealer, mercedes benz of cincinnati ohio and received a quote of $3700.00. The dealer's service manager told me its not a problem commonly seen but it sounded like awfully too popular as they knew exactly what it was when i described on the phone. The mercedes e320 engine (supposedly 1998 through mid 2000) called m112 as well as the same engine or substantially similar engine on c280, ml320, e430 etc., has a harmonic balancer, a rubber ring sandwiched between 2 metal pulley to isolate the engine vibration from the rest of the pulleys being driven by the engine. This is what the serpentine belt rotates on.over time, the poorly designed harmonic balancer pulley fails, the rubber ring cracks, breaks or falls off, depending on the temperature of the vehicle driving conditions and stress/load. It is typically seen on ml320 in the range of 40,000 miles, but is not as commonly reported as typically it is still under warranty. On e320, it tends to be around 60 ,000 miles though, often it could be as low as 25000 miles. The issue is, when this part fails, the engine timing belt cover , oil pan etc get seriously gouged by the rotating pulley. In my case the dealership, mercedes benz of cincinnati is charging $3700.00 for the repairs. Often dealer profess innocence or lack of similar failure (common across board, every user in my group mentions that the dealer said 'never heard of it'.) . The issue become more dangerous and expensive as well, when less mechanically inclined people just keep driving until something smells or makes terrible noise etc., often resulting in a middle of the road complete breakdown and seize of the engine.*la
The vehicle vibrated uncontrollably while driving.the driver had difficulty to maintain control of the vehicle.however, the driver was able to pull over and the vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic informed the driver that the pulley assembly needed to be replaced.please provide further details. *la
Faulty harmonic balancer in fly wheel 1999 ml 320, 66,000 miles nhtsa action no.pe03058.
(1)vehicle was making a left hand turn and became almost impossible to turn steering wheel. (2) crankshaft dampener became separated at point of rubber vulcanized and caused serpentine belt to come loose leaving power steering to stop working along with all other pulleys run by the same belt. (3) dampener and belt were replaced.(old parts are available) this is an extremely dangerous situation that my local dealership says is happening very frequently.new types ofreplacement dampeners have been changed six (6) times in the last five (5) years in the parts book.several local mechanics say it's a very common problem and they wonder why a recall has not been ordered. It would be very easy to find out how many crankshaft dampeners have been ordered and replaced by both dealers and parts sales.again, let me say this is a very dangerous situation that is very common.my primary worry is that a small person would not be able to turn the steering wheel if the power steering goes out as in these broken dampener cases.i'm a 225 lb man and i could barely bring the car to a safe stop at only 25 miles per hour.what would have happened on a mountain road? please investigate this problem for everyone's safety.thank you!!*la
Crankshaft pulley failure.
Failure of harmonic balancer, an event that has occurred on many mercedes with this design for the harmonic balancer.new cover, oil pan. And balancer needed.
1999 mercedes-benz ml320 suv.on thursday, december 19, my wife was driving the vehicle when suddenly the "harmonic balancer" failed (became detached), causing a complete loss of power to the vehicle, resulting in a disabled vehicle and leaving my wife and family stranded.the "harmonic balancer" is the main pulley wheel which is attached to the crankshaft.this pulley wheel in turn drives all other belt-driven items, such as power steering pump, ac, alternator, water pump, etc.first, this item should be so resilient that failure is nearly impossible, and second, both the tow truck driver and the dealer who is repairing it stated that this type of failure is "not at all surprising or uncommon" on the mb ml320 suv.while no injuries or deaths occurred in this case, it seems that if this critical component were to fail at highway speeds, the resulting loss of power could cause a loss of control of the car.i will also add that we have very carefully followed all of the routine maintenance recommended by the manufacturer.if this critical component is subject to failure, a check should be part of the scheduled maintenance.but to be direct, the design of the "harmonic balancer" is faulty, and clearly should be recalled.the repairs are expensive (upwards of $1500) and the results are potentially deadly.let's not wait for an injury or death to result before some action is taken on this! ts
1999 m-b ml320 - harmonic balancer failed, rendering power steering and all other serpentine belt driven accessories inoperative while in motion.damaged engine front cover, timing cover, oil pan and associated parts.
The failure of the center pulley resulted in the engine belt coming loose. It resulted in all power mechanisms (power steering, power brakes failing). The steering was very hard to turn. The belt got ripped by the fan while it was working. The fan also stopped working and elevated the engine temperature. No visible indication of this on the dash panel. When i opened the hood, the metal pulley was sitting loose against the engine block. If the pulley had fallen down or hit the fuel line, it could have caused a serious accident. Mercedes dealership told me they have seen this problem before and it happens in hot weather. Mercedes has fixed this problem in later models but not letting owners of previous models know about this potentially serious problem.ph**dimsii ivoq entry posted after 12/12/02 cut over to artemis**768016
Harmonic balancer failure.
Consumer complained about having problems with the pulleys making a hole in the oil pan. Manufacturer was not notified at the time of this call.the vehicle had an oil leak.the technician stated the leak was caused bya pulley which was hitting against the oil pan.the technician stated that if the oil pan was replaced the pulley will still hit the oil pan and cause a leak. 1999 mercedes ml320 harmonic balancer.i was aware of the investigation being performed and had mercedes check the balancer in january.they said it's fine.on 9/6/04, it failed causing $1500 in damage.i was not injured because i knew not to drive the vehicle after failure.mercedes needs to recall the harmonic balancer.it is failing on most vehicles and causing extensive damage.

The contact owns a 1999 mercedes benz ml320.while the contact's spouse was driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle completely shut off without warning.the vehicle had to be restarted and was driven to a mechanic.the mechanic discovered that the catalytic converter needed to be replaced.the vin was unknown.the current mileage was 150,000 and failure mileage was 139,000.
Dt: the contact stated that the catalytic convertercracked along the weld that attaches to the exhaust pipe.this problem can not be corrected due to a lack of parts.there was a temporary weld performed, but it has not corrected the problem.
Cd player failed.
The power steering failed upon starting the vehicle. Fuel leaked and made it difficult for the driver to control the vehicle. *nlm
Gas pedal stuck on the mercedes ml320 and then the brake pedal went to the floor (no brakes) until a second and third try.
1.) brake pads need replacing after 10,000 miles. 2.) fuel filter replacement requires newly designed part and additional hoses, clamps etc totaling over $300. Because previous part causes fuel leaks(?) and not available. Shouldn't mb pay for part of this?? *nlm
Based on a dealer reccomendation, i have become aware the mercedes benz has been conducting and unpublicised "campaign" to advise owners of certian of the ml series suvs of the desireability of "upgrading", at the owners expense, the fuel system including filters and lines.this is apparently in response to a number of fuel filter and fuel pump failures, ascribed by mercedes to "poor quality u.s. Fuel" these failures have the effect of immobilizing the car, without warning.these unexpected stoppages cn have very serious saftey implications if they occur in a moving traffic flow situation.mercedes is well aware of this problem but has not directly informed owners and takes the position that it is not a saftey issue and therefore not subject to a recall.i believe that a documented problem, ascribable to faulty design or materials that can lead to a sudden and unexpected loss of power is a very serious hazard and should be corrected by the manufacturer.
Vehicle has experienced a no start condition. Dealer has replaced fuel pump twice, but defect still occurs.
The computer let the consumer know that brake pads were defective, while taking the vehicle out on a test drivecaliper locked up.prior to this happeningvehicle was starting in third gear, instead of first gear.it difficult to move out in traffic. This is in regard to nhtsa id #10033607, also mercedes benz service campaign #2009100002 dated jan 2010, for model 163. My vehicle isn't covered by above mercedes service campaign because it's v-6 model, but showing exactly the same safety problem. I've taken and attached a few photos of the problem area showing severe damage to fuel line and less so to brake line.the photos showing severe chafing between fuel line & brake line just below master cylinder. The service campaign only covers 8 cylinder models, but my 6 cylinder model is showing exactly the same chafing at the same area. I have not experienced any problem, but just noticed this issue last few days.
I have 2 complaints against mercedes ml320 suv. 1)with ignition off and key removed, the transmission shifter can be shifted to neutral and the truck starts to roll.it posts extreme danger to passengers, especially, kids left in a parked vehicle, as well as pedestrians in front or behind the vehicle, especially those standing in between this vehicle and another parked vehicle on a slope.2) the well known power lock failure causes the manually locked doors (including child proof rear door locks)to be unlocked automatically whenever the vehicle starts in motion from full stop.it is due to the auto-lock feature which attempts to lock all doors when the vehicle starts to move from full stop (e.g stopping for red light). However, due to power lock failure, it cannot lock all the doors after 4-5 times and eventually unlocks all doors. This left children in the rear in danger of opening the doors while the vehicle is in motion. This problem happened to me twice; one at 9700 miles in 2001 and at 70,000 miles in 2007.i had written a letter to mercedes benz usa to complaint about the power lock and they just denied that it is a defect.
Consumer notice after making a stop vehicle power door locks pulsate up and down soon after door locks will unlock. Dealer has been contacted cannot duplicate problem. Please provide further information. Mr
Went to park the vehicle and it seem to shift into a lower gear an accelerating, causing it to lunge forward into a light pole.
The transmission shifted erratic in cold weather.during the first 5-6 minutes, the vehicle will not shift out of 1st gear in cold weather.able to shift after warm start (about 5 minutes).
Car was in park at the top of the driveway and rolled down my driveway down a hill and crashed into a tree to stop. The car maker sent an investigator out (after a month) who determined it was a defect in the transmission. (i am awaiting their report to me) car is not drivable.
Car was stopped put into park position on the transmission. Car lurched forward, crashed thru garage adjoining porch and deck and rolled off dropping 10 feet and turning on it's side.dt

In september 1999, we purchased a new mercedes-benz, ml-320.in 2003, the vehicle was a part of a recall for a lower power steering hose and clamp at the radiator fitting.on august 7, 2007, while driving the vehicle, the lower power steering hose blew off loosing all hydraulic fluid.we lost the power steering and had extreme difficulty steering the vehicle.the same problem has occurred with a family member's ml-320.in addition, the transmission has frozen four times in first gear.the mercedes dealer was unable to locate the problem.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they replaced the hose; however, we have not retrieved the vehicle from the dealer because we are fearful about driving the vehicle due to these recurring problems.

I have a mercedes ml 320.it is a 1999 model with less than 100,000 miles.the transmission slips out of gear when driving.sometimes the transmission locks in gear..so when pulling out in an intersection and one thinks the transmission was in low for power, it is locked in high and the car could not accelerate quickly enough to avoid a potential collision with oncoming vehicles.also, whendriving, the transmission might slip out of gear at an inopportune time as well.one has to stop the vehicle and turn off the ignition and then restart which resets the transmission.i have spoken to many mechanics and they all say that mercedes has known about the problem and refuses to recall.i am having the transmission rebuilt but i believe there are many other people that have experienced the problem.a recall should be ordered on the 1999 through2001 models before someone does get killed.we have experienced this problem many times in the past 2 years and we've had the mercedes dealer try to resolve the problem without resorting to a new transmission.we also had it to various independent mechanics that also failed in their efforts.
Upon pulling onto the interstate vehicle jerked then stalled. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealership for inspection, and mechanicdetermined that transmissionfailed.
While driving about any speedtransmission will lose power, usually when shifting speed.
When on a hill or incline vehicle will roll back, took vehicle to dealer. He said it was normal.
Vehicle will not accelerate upon taking off.dealer is not resolving the problem.
The contact owns a 1999 mercedes benz ml320. While parked, the contact attempted to move the gear shifter from park but the shifter remained stuck in park. The failure recurred intermittently and after waiting a few minutes, the contact would be able to move the gear shifter. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostics. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

Recall 99v328006 concerning seat belt buckles.dealer has no parts.
Rear seat belt behind driver does not retract properly. Dealer suggested replacement. Claimed it couldn't be fixed. I have had to replace the rear seat belt on the passenger side twice on this vehicle. The rear seats are used infrequently thus, the rear seat belts are used infrequently. Rear seat belts to be virtually useless three times on the same vehicle seems like a safety hazard to me.

Uncommanded breaking of front wheels resulted in deceleration and severe overheating of front brakes. This occurred within one mile of destination. High engine revs and downshifting of the transmission were required to overcome the uncommanded breaking force and reach the destination. A similar second occurrence effected only the right front brake.
99 mercedes ml320 front right brake overheated traveling about 55mph.
Stop and go traffic in worm weather causes front brakes to heat up and drag constantly to the point of causing the transmission to shift down and eventually stop the car completely. After about an hour of cooling down, it will behave normally. It started several months ago on the right front, then transferred to the left side this month.* dealership service manager stated this h happened before with a similar vehicle, where front brakes actually caughton fire.service manager stated that they could notdeterminewhat caused the overheating brake problem , so they replaced everything all the way up to the brake master cyclinder.brake failure can lead to an accident or wdeath if not corrected.
1.) brake pads need replacing after 10,000 miles. 2.) fuel filter replacement requires newly designed part and additional hoses, clamps etc totaling over $300. Because previous part causes fuel leaks(?) and not available. Shouldn't mb pay for part of this?? *nlm
While rotating my tires, the mercedes benz mechanic reported that my front brake pads were worn down.i have driven for 44 years in many different types of vehicles. I have driven in 10 foreign countries and across the us several times.i do not abuse my car. My benz has never been off the road. It has never been in four-wheel drive.it is 18 miles to my office of which 15 miles are freeway driving.i cannot believe brake pads should wear out after one year and 15,500 miles. $250 per year to replace brake pads is crazy.mercedes should advise prospective owners of this annual cost.have there been other complaints?
Brakes have been replaced twice and oncerotors.brakes were making a squeaking sound.front and back brakes had to be replaced.dealer never got permission to do repairs, but chargedconsumer for service.
The contact owns a 1999 mercedes benz ml320. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the power steering failed without warning. The vehicle was restarted but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power steering pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired twice, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000. Djr
My wife drove from las vegas on 15 fwy back home when the engine light came on. About 10 minutes later, the vehicle pulled to the left so she steered to the right but it pulled to the left again. While the vehicle was pulling, she applied brakes to slow it down but it seem like the vehicle went faster and faster. She heard a sound "shhh" sound like a vacuum leaks. The steering wheel was pulling too hard to the left so she could not hold on anymore. The care then went off road and rolled over, landing in the section separating the cars going to las vegas and the cars going back. After landing she screamed how the baby, how the baby, he was 14 months, how every body--her daughters and parents...all 4tires are suv michelin, just replaced about a month. We believe some things was wrong with the vehicle.

Mercedes benz, ml320,1999, harmonic balancer failure.destroys the whole bottom front of the engine including making power steering inoperative.may cause a real bad accident.i also have a 2000 c280 with 47,500 miles which looks like carries the exact same problem with the same possible accident potential.
I heard a snap sound while driving and a burning rubber smell afterwards.we were going to pull into a parking lot to investigate, but half way to making a left turn, we lost all steering capabilities and coasted to the side of a intersection.i normally drive on the freeway, and if this happened then, i am sure i would have had a major accident.
The power steering failed upon starting the vehicle. Fuel leaked and made it difficult for the driver to control the vehicle. *nlm

Reference:vehicle complaint - 47046in september 1999, we purchased a new mercedes-benz, ml-320. In 2003, the vehicle waspart of a recall concerning a lower power steering hose and clamp at the radiator fitting. On august 7, 2007, while driving the vehicle, the lower power steering hose blew off losing all hydraulic fluid. We lost the power steering and had extreme difficulty steering the vehicle. The same problem has occurred with a family member's ml-320. In addition, the transmission has frozen four times in first gear. The mercedes dealer was unable to locate the problem. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, and they replaced the hose; however, we have not retrieved the vehicle from the dealer because we are fearful about driving the vehicle due to these recurring problems.

Consumer had power steering hose serviced by dealer in 01/03.on 06/12/03 experienced power steering system failure.dealer diagnosed that the steering pump and rack & pinion had failed.consumer then had vehicle inspected by a reputable mechanic who advised that the power steering hose had been placed too close to the gear when dealer previously serviced causing the current failure.

Power steering hose.
While driving 25 mph, the check engine light appeared on the dashboard and remained on. The driver took the vehicle to a body shop for inspection.the driver noticed fluid leaking from underneath the vehicle. The mechanic inspected the vehicle and determined that the power steering hose needed to be replaced and replaced it. However, the problem still occurs at this time. Please provide further details.

The door lock on this vehicle is malfunctioning again.it was repaired while the vehicle was under warranty but it has failed again with exactly the same symptoms.the dealer and the manufacturer will not commit to repair this without charging me.this is a common problem for mercedes ml320's as evidenced by information on mercedes discussion web pages.this is a safety issue because the door could open in an accident.dt

Vehicle has been out of alignment/balance since purchase.vehicle has been in repair four times since purchase in january 1999 for a total out-of-service of about a month.vehicle has alternately been aligned, tires balance or rotated to correct vibration of vehicle at all speeds.original general tires were exchanged for a set of dunlops in may of 1999, due to depressions/bulges in sidewalls.vehicle was returned to repair in november 1999 for out of balance/alignment condition.repair shop said vehicle was re-balanced using load-bearing technique.vehicle vibrates at all speeds now, but particularly and uncontrollably at speeds over 40 mph.severity of vibration is such that one cannot hold a normal conversation in the vehicle.vibration adversly affects safety and handling of the vehicle.dealer reports vehicle balanced/alignedto mercedes-benz specs and nothing further can be done to correct it, and that this is the only vehicle they have encountered with this problem.an alternate mercedes service department reports encountering several problems in keeping alignment/balance correct on ml320s. Owner's manual states on page 59'press down rocker switch symbols: auxiliary front fog lamps on (if so equipped). Green indicator lamp in instrument cluster comes on. Green indicator lamp in instrument cluster does not come on! dealerservice manager tells me he has not seen this light in any ml 320 orml 430 equipped with front fog lights. I called customer assistance centermercedes-benz of north america inc. And was told i would neversee this light, the owner's manual is in error. I feel this indicator light is as important as the blue headlamp high beam indicator light to remind the driver high beams are on, so as not to annoy oncoming drivers. The mercedes-benz auxiliary front fog lamps are bright! they are wonderful for driving on the narrow rural roads where i live in pennsylvania, but they will annoy oncoming drivers if left on.
The contact owns a 1999 mercerdes benz ml320. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle suddenly accelerated to 55 mph. The contact depressed the brake pedal continuously but the brakes would not respond. The contact shifted into neutral and applied both feet to the brake pedal in order for the vehicle to stop. Cruise control stalk is too long, making accidental activation of cruise control likely when activating the right turn signal.hitting the cc stalk when making a righr turn activates the "accel" portion of the cruise control.there is no visual indication (dash lamp, etc.) that the cruise control has been activated.

I own a 1999 mercedes benz ml320. I was in driving in i-5 north from lake oswego to portland, oregon. With my wife and my sister-in-law and her daughter with a friend, it started to rain and it started to become foggy. When i tried to turn on the defrost, the nose came on but no air came out. This made me have zero visibility and it put us in grave danger when i had to wipe the whole windshield with my hands. The next day we went to mercedes benz dealership and got the problem fixed, but there might be others who have this problem and they won't be as lucky as we were. This needs to be a case that is handled and if you help our community out, you will be the prevention of a future hazard.
