Mercedes gl450 the front end started riding low after driving it and would then adjust itself, which was very noticeable not the minute amount is supposed to do just for aerodynamics. Then it started out low from a parking position and once on the road it would raise a little to where it was drivable that went on for two days i had an appointment to get it inspected and on the third day the front end just lowered itself and the whole car was very unstable jumped up and down because of tbe great difference between the front and back i was driving on a one lane road on a mountainous region which is where i live and had nowhere to pull over. I made it after driving at 30 mph on a 45 mph zone, front air suspension struts that were leaking and told me this car was notorious for this problem. I need you to please look into this o believe it is a hazardous dangerous problem with this vehicle!

On february 18, 2008 at approximately 3:30 pm i was involved in an mva in which i struck the car in front of me at considerable speed. This caused considerable damage to my car (2007 mercedes gl450) with no air bag deployment. During the attempt at stopping i felt the brake pedal become mushy and be ineffective. At first the brakes grabbed strong and then let loose with the eventual collision. After consulting with an independent mercedes mechanic, it was suggested that this brake behavior could be explained by an anti-locking brake (abs) sensor failure. This would account for the release of the brakes (possible detection of skid) but also the false data reaching the central computer with an erroneous speed, thus disabling the airbags. I have been in contact with mercedes benz or north america which has yielded no inspection or resolution. I have been asking for one of their field engineers to examine the car and see if the abs sensor is responsible for the possible brake failure. Although the crash may still be my driver error, i don't feel comfortable repairing the car and giving it back to my wife for transportation of the family. Has an abs sensor failure been reported for this model before?

My mb gl450 2007 cars horn started to randomly go off for no reason multiple times. This happened three times, once when i started the car in grocery store parking lot, second time while i was driving and scared other motorist to pull over.only way i could make it stop was to pull over and turn off the car. When i turned on the car the horn started again, turned off, turned on drove to repair shop. Repair shop told me the spring for the horn had warn out and the electronic console in the steering wheel was shot.told me you can't order the part anymore because it was discontinued, so, we have to order a whole new steering wheel for $1,200 plus $600 in labor.

Rain leaked in through the back causing the rear sam to be filled with water. This caused all of my taillights to go out. I saw a recall for vehicles with the same year as mine but there is no recall for the gl 450 that i can find. I called mercedes which yielded nothing.they told me the recalls are vin specific, not vehicle specific. I guess my vin wasn't chosed even though it has the same issue as the ones they recalled in 2009. This is a new sam. It was replaced by us when we bought the vehicle used.

2007 mercedes benz gl450.consumer writes in regards to vehicle catalytic converter causes fire.consumer sent additional correspondence.the consumer stated the fire may have been caused by the seat heater.updated 04/04/2017updated 04/14/2017

1. Poor battery life and alternator life in 2007 gl 450 2. Engine died and electronics died at highway speeds, reported to mercedes benz corporation with no resolve.3. Lift gate constantly malfunctions and does not close.

Driving in new jersey on route 80 west for 1-2 miles there was a strong odor of burnt wires that smell so bad and have noticed that the smoke was coming from underneath the passenger seat. It went on for few minutes where the wires actually caught on fire and melted together.stopped the car, shot the engine off, with windows open and tried to pull the wires apart to prevent further damage.... But could not separate the wires from each other.called the mb dealer near our location and brought the car in after the mbusa suggested towing it in and later we were told that the vehicle was safe to drive to the dealer. The local mb dealer manager i talked to was very helpful and understandable and he tries to support me the best way he could where he agreed to look at the car at reduced rate to help out to try to figure out the issue. The car is at the mb dealer now. Mbusa sent an expert to inspect the car at the mb dealer and after a week i was told that no one knows what happened. Mbusa ruled out any connections to a previous work done mb dealer on the driver seat heater. I was also told, by mbusa, that the issue is an internal and they can??t discuss that with me and i should go thru my car insurance since vehicle was out of warranty. The dealer told me that it??s approx. $12,000 job to replace the main harness which was responsible for this damage. I have spent so much money to purchase this suv which supposed to be safe and reliable for me and my family and never expect this to ever happen. Perhaps we brought a lemon.

Tl-contact owns a 2007 mercedes gl 450. Contact looked online for recall for vehicle.mileage on vehicle is 99,801. The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz gl450. While driving various speeds, the abs indicator illuminated and remained lit. In addition, the esp and check engine indicators also illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that all the wheels needed to be replaced and referred the contact to the dealer .the contact called mercedes-benz of south orlando at 407-374-0033 (located at 4301 millenia blvd, orlando, fl 32839) and was informed that the parts were on backorder. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 190,000.

I was driving in my son [xxx] to his school in wayne new jersey with my gl 450 seats warmer turned on in both the drivers and passenger seats. I started smelling smoke & thought it was from outside. I opened my window, and smoke started swirling inside my car and started getting thicker within minutes. I try to search for the source of the strange smell - but no obvious clue observed. When i reached my destination i noticed that the seat has burned a hole in my suit jacket back left side. The hole in the car is on the left side of the drivers seat. I have not contacted mercedes benz service and would like to know what i should do if possible. I would appreciate directing me to the appropriate line to fix my seat and electrical system of my jeep and get compensated for my suit damage asap.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz gl450. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power while driving approximately 65 mph. The failure occurred without warning. The contact stated that the failure occurred four times. Additionally, the engine remained functional during two of the failures, but the vehicle could not shift into the correct gear. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 127,561.

I was in my 2007 mercedes gl450 and had driven approx. 2 miles with my front driver's seat heater on. I started to notice a strange smell and suddenly the cabin was starting to fill up with smoke. I immediately stopped the vehicle and discovered the left side of the back of my front drivers seat was on fire. Snow was on the ground so i scooped up snow to pack in the fire/hot spot which had burned a large hole through the vinyl and inside padding material. I later noticed that my jacket had burn marks and a hole in the exact location of the point of the fire.

While driving on the freeway at approximately 60 mph, the vehicle randomly shut-off with no warnings whatsoever, including all the internal electronics (e.g. Navigation, dashboard). After 1 second, the vehicle restarted all by itself. The clock inside the vehicle kept on circling back and forth as if some lightning hit it or something, and it was very scary, since there were many cars on the freeway.

Head lights went off in the while traveling due to defecting wiring system. According to experts mb used an inferior and unsuitable material for the insulation on the electrical wires of some of the gl450 models. This insulation prematurely disintegrates under normal use causing the wires it is designed to protect and insulate, to short causing many problems.

My car was parked in the garage.90 minutes later engine fire began that nearly burned down my garage and house.no problems were noticed in the car 60 minutes after parking.fire occurred 60 to 90 minutes after parking.

I was driving my family to an afternoon lunch on the 5th of december, 2014, the day was chilly and it was a good time to have the heated seats on... After about 10 minutes of driving i noticed a burning smell and thought it was something in the area (it was actually my seat lighting me on fire), needless to say the smell continued to get worse and i knew something was wrong. I looked for a safe area to pull over and identify the source of the smell, before i was able to get off the road my side started smoking and lit on fire. I frantically pulled off the road and jumped out. I then proceeded to rip of my jacket and put out the smoldering section of it. After that i noticed the car was still smoking on the left side of the drivers seat about to go up in flames, at this time my wife was pulling our 2 year old twins out of the vehicle i got back to the car to turn it off and extinguish the fire. Once i was able to diagnose the scene i found the heated seat had malfunctioned in some manner and burned a nice hole in the seat which in return lit my jacket on fire. I will get it into the shop to have the fuse taken out and make the heated seats inoperable not taking any chances.

This complaint is in regards to a2007 mercedes gl450.i have had electrical problems with this car from the very beginning.14 days after purchasing vehicle went into the shop.on 2 occasions my car shut completely down on busy road ways and both times mercedes did not want to fix the car.mercedes claimed a drink was spilt in the car on a computer system under the front passenger seat.on the first occasion lights started flashing and with in 30 seconds the car lost all power and had to be pushed off the road way.all of the doors were locked up we finally managed to climb out the drivers side.i had 3 kids in my car and the thought of not being able to get out of this car really concerns me.on the second occasion which was approximatly 2 weeks later the cars windows started rolling up and down and smoking.the car then shut down on us and at this point was smoking so bad my kids were coughing.the car then jumped out of park.again the car was towed in the next day and mercedes said we spilt a drink in the car that shut it down.mercedes refused to fix the car even though it was still under warranty.this car is not safe.i have done much research and have talked to several people who have had the same problems and have been told they spilt a drink and that is why it shut down.one man's car caught on fire in a driveway another's gl was parked in the garage and burnt his house down killing his animals.the list goes on and mercedes will not recall this model.

When starting the vehicle, the horn intermittently goes off and will not stop.must turn off the car to get the horn to stop sounding.then, must turn on the car and turn off the car a few times to make it stop until it all starts happening, randomly, again. Took thevehicle to the mercedes dealership where car was purchase and has been routinely serviced and they said the problem was a faulty steering wheel switch.the only way to fix the issue is to replace the entire steering wheel itself.the cost for an identical factory wood steering wheel (which is what the car was purchased new with) is $3,000; if we opted for a leather wrapped steering wheel instead the cost would be $1500.the other workaround is to pull the fuse and not have a horn at all.this is a safety issue and should not cost this much to have a steering wheel switch replaced!this is essential, basic equipment, and starting happening on a vehicle with less than 40,000 miles.have continued to follow-up with dealer to see if there has been a recall or if they will fix, but mercedes is not taking responsibility for the problem.

On several occasions the engine has shut down without warning.this has happened at idle (stopped at a red light) and when traveling 70+mph on the interstate.the event happens very fast and the engine restarts within 30sec.the warning lights on the dashboard light up like a christmas tree but all systems continue working (ac, radio, etc).i have taken it to 2 different mechanics and neither one has been able to identify the problem.this has been very scary and makes me feel unsafe driving this vehicle.

Heating element in drivers side defective. The car seat caught on fire. Mercedes refuses to fix under warranty. Will only cover 25% of a 1400$ repair. This does not include the damage done to the seat.

Driver side seat caught fire after heated seat button depressed on the dash. Approximately three minutes had elapsed when seat began to smoke. The smoke continued as the seat caught fire on the front left panel of the back portion of the seat. The fire projected through the seat, burning a hole through the seat about two inches in diameter. Driver's sweater was singed by the flame.

My car caught on fire while driving on highway 580 eastbound in livermore, ca.other drivers were flagging me to pull over.my car is totally destroyed.it took 3 fire trucks and 1500 gallons of water and foam to put out. There was just under 1/2 tank of gas.

I turned on my 2007 mercedes gl450 in my driveway to warm it up and 1 minute later the horn continually went off.i turned the car off and the horn continued.smoke began from the passenger rear tail light, then a flame.911 was called the moment we saw smoke.within seconds the back seat was engulfed in flames and then the entire car.the flames were as high as my 2 story home. There is nothing left of this car.the amount of broken glass from all the windows blowing out down my driveway is unbelievable.

While driving to work this morning, i turned on the drivers side seat warmer.less than three minutes later, i noticed a strong odor followed by a considerable amount of smoke and heat coming from the side of the seat nearest the door.i felt what i thought was something poking me in the left rear pocket of my pants, and burned the back of my knuckle checking for the source of the heat.i immediately shut off the heater and pulled off at the first safe location.i exited the vehicle (a pall of smoke followed me) and knocked the smoking embers out of the vehicle (a hole larger than a quarter is burned in the seat).i also noticed a hole was burned through my pants.apparently, i came very close to significant personal injury, not to mention the fact of possible loss of control of the vehicle.we called the dealer and they scheduled the car for next monday.researching into the issue, mine is not an isolated case as there are multiple class action lawsuits and complaints with the nhtsa.obviously, these seats are defective, mercedes is aware, the passenger seat is next and is not safe.

After starting vehicle and turning on seat warmers, the car smelled of a burning smell and i felt a very hot spot on my back. I turned off the seat warmers to find a hole burned into the leather. All occurred on the driver's side of 2007 mb gl-450.

The ism (intelligent servo module) has failed in many of the similar mercedes cars that i own. I can not start the car and can not even order this part because only a dealer can install this part. My vehicle is stuck in a parking lot and there is nothing i can do. I think this issue needs to be recalled.

Horn starts honking by itself. Will sound for 30 seconds or more and then stop. Otherwise the horn does not work.. Horn continues to randomly sound while driving. Very unsafe as it startles other drivers. Took to dealer who diagnosed the problem as a broken horn sensor. However to fix, they said they needed to replace the steering wheel. Total price is $1300 with labor. At this price it will be a while before it can be fixed. This appears to be a common problem with this model. A google search turned up several similar complaints on various forms. At the $1,300 cost, there must be several mercedes gl 450 's driving around with faulty horns.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz gl450. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start however, all of the warning lights on the instrument panel were illuminated followed by a warning chime. The contact also stated that there was a leak from the bottom of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing where the technician recommended a fluid flush and replacing the power steering seal, steering column module, wiring harness, auxiliary battery and transmission. In addition, the contact was advised that an oil change was needed.the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 103,000. Kmj

The following condition appeared within the last couple of months. (i put a date of 1/1/18, in the box below, but the problem has occurred at least a dozen times since then, and i find it unsafe todrive the vehicle any more).at higher speeds, the vehicle's transmission will downshift to by itself into 1st gear suddenly and without warning. Even at freeway speeds rpms will suddenly jump up to "red-line" limits as the downshift occurs from 7th gear to 1st gear. The vehicle must be brought to a complete stop and engine must be turn off and restarted for transmission to engage properly. It's very dangerous when other vehicles are following or in adjacent lanes traveling at high speeds.also, after driving at higher speeds, vehicle rpms drop suddenly and without warning when coming to a complete stop. Transmission basically disengages and will not re-engage even when gas pedal is pressed. Engine must be turned off completely and restarted for transmission to engage. Equally dangerous condition - especially when decelerating on freeway off-ramps.the vehicle has been well maintained (all service records are available), and i am the original owner (bought new in late 2006). The vehicle has been driven approximately 117,500 miles as of february 2018.what alarms me the most is that i have seen many otherowners of the same vehicle report exactly the same dangerous transmission problem. Even my independent mechanics says its a well known problem. I say it's a dangerous problem. I should know, in part because i have been registered traffic engineer for over 39 years, and was a past recipient of a national highway traffic safety administration fellowship in highway safety.

I had just started driving down the road 2 miles and going around 25-30 mph and the car shut off and the steering wheel locked. There was cars behind me and i was able to put my hazards on. Thankfully cars were coming up to stop sign so i was able to steer off road. Started car upand drove a little further and car shut down again and locked steering repeated 4 more times til was able to get home. I was getting ready to get on freeway with my young kids in the car could have been so dangerous.

I was driving home from work and my transmission began to not shift out of third gear going up a hill.. I took it to the dealer after this happened another 10 times and they said is a intake flap not closing properly and that they couldn't do anything about it. Now its happening so often im afraid to put my children in the car on account that every time it stops shifting when i'm in the middle of traffic and lose all power.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz gl450.the contact heard a squeaking noise when he depressed the brake pedal and the stopping distance increased.the dealer was unable to diagnose the cause of failure, however, they grinded the edges of the brake pads to reduce the squeaking noise.the speed was unknown.the failure mileage was 4,000 and current mileage was 6,600. The dealer recommended chamfering the brake pads to alleviate the noise. The dealer stated vehicle low on oil. Updated 09/2807

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz gl450.while driving 65 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning.the contact pulled to the side of the road and the vehicle was towed to the dealer.the dealer has been unable to determine the cause of the failure.this failure has occurred previously.the current and failure mileages were 11,139.

Check engine light-- caused by timing chain and sprocket wear-- common issue with many merz of this type of engine.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz gl450.the contact stated that the vehicle would stall sporadically without warning.the vehicle would first power down and the lights would flicker on and off before stalling. The dealer was in the process of diagnosing the failure.the manufacturer promised to call the contact back with some assistance for repairs.the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 1,000 and the current mileage was 15,000.

My 2007 mercedes-benz gl-450 with 36,900 miles suddenly lost power and was barely responsive while driving home yesterday (2/17/2010), and then the car required 3 or 4 attempts to shift into reverse as i was trying to back into my driveway.i drove the car to the mercedes dealership this morning.this problem first happened a few months ago (august 2009 at 34,500 miles) during highway driving with my family in the vehicle while we were out of town on a vacation trip.we had to repeatedly pull off the highway, turn the car off for awhile and then restart, to get the vehicle to have sufficient power to get home and to the mercedes dealership.at that time the mercedes dealership replaced a camshaft solenoid magnet.this problem is so dangerous that we have now lost confidence that we can safely take this vehicle on a vacation trip.

On three separate occasions the 'charge air hose' connecting to the turbo intercooler system on my 2007 mercedes gl320cdi has failed.the hose has been replaced four times total.according to internet message boards there are numerous failures that mb has failed to fix including mine.on all occasions of the incident my entire family has been in the vehicle.while under acceleration the hose fails and forward speed is lost.on two occasions i have been on the interstate and driving on the incline of a hill where other vehicles were behind me.it is not safe.

Airmatic failure front suspension many times since 2007 for gl 450warrrany replacemant in 2008 , 2009 and now again in 2011.

The dealer wasmade aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 70,000.updated 09/18/13*ljthe dealer agreed the design was flawed, but mercedes was not had not issued a recall.

Rain leaked in through the back causing the rear sam to be filled with water. This caused all of my taillights to go out. I was driving 70 mph on i-80 highway when my car completely shut down. The speedometer went from 70 down to 10 mph in about 2 seconds. There was no warning, no lights, bells, or signals to warn me that my fuel pump needed to be replaced. I had to cut across three lanes of traffic with no power, and almost got hit by a tractor trailer who had to immediately swerve off the road. I could not restart the car, and had to be pushed by a nj state officer to get to the shoulder.i was on a very busy major highway, and had it of been rush hour i don't think i would have made it without causing a major accident.i service my car regularly, and never at any point had the mercedes dealership ever advised me that i need a new fuel pump.of course they have warning signalsto tell me my windshield fluid is low, but nothing to signal this type of malfunction. I then had to remain on the side of a major highway for over 90 minutes while i waited to the mercedes road side assistance to pick up my vehicle.i advised them four different times that my life was in danger with cars flying by me at top speed. My fuel pump was eventually serviced at the dealership, and they had no answer for why this happened.i am filing this report not only because i am extremely upset, but possible to save the lives of other travelers. As i stated, there was no warning, no signs or my car in distress, or anything that i could have done to prevent this. I would appreciate you looking into this matter, and if you need any further information i would be more than willing to supply you with that.

Vehicle will not change gear and become sluggish with terrible fuel consumption. Tried fuel treatment, problem gets better then return. The problem is intermittent.

1. Poor battery life and alternator life in 2007 gl 450 2. Engine died and electronics died at highway speeds, reported to mercedes benz corporation with no resolve.3. Lift gate constantly malfunctions and does not close.

Mechanical failure for the truck's liftgate. Light flashed as i was backing out of driveway. Will not turn off now, getting it checked tomorrow.

Automatic opening rear hatch opens without a command to do so.several times i've found it open when parked in public parking lots.twice it has opened within my garage, causing the hatch to strike the garage door and scratch and damage the trucks paint.on one occasion the vehicle was parked outside and backed up to a fence.the hatch opened and struck two shovels that were leaning against the fence.in turn, the shovels fell along the side of the vehicle and caused $800 in paint damage.the reason this happens is because the shape of the remote key fob is convex instead of concave.in turn, when the fob is in your front pants pocket and you knell to pick something up, pressure from you leg cause the the hatch switch to engage and the hatch to open.i know this because it happened one time when i was nearby the car when the hatch inadvertently opened.the problem is excessive because the fob has a long range.consequently, the hatch can open when you are well away from the vehicle (e.g. Inside a building).i've complained on several occasions to my mercedes-benz dealer and have been repeatedly told that this has never happened to anyone else.i find that very hard to believe.

2007 gl 450 does not shift, pulled out in traffic and almost got hit, with small movement 5mph top speed.stop at light on hill and transmission was stuck in neutral. Had to shut off engine to re engage took to dealer and they said it was the conductor plate sensor. Safety issue? i think so.

Day before the incident, car would suddenly stick in gear, not shift up or down other than after turning it of.researched this; seems to be a common problem with this model. Had no time to get it fixed that day, next day got involved in a side impact accident (other driver neglected stop sign) wanted to speed up to avoid collision, but car did not shift down or accelerate. Could not avoid collision.after body work, car would still have same shifting issue. Dealer found out was failing conductor plate and valve body of the transmission.

Premature transmission up-shift and remains unresponsive to throttle position.suspected transmission conductor plate/valve failure as previously mentioned by others for this model year.when will mb acknowledge this is a dangerous condition and issue a recall?

I was driving on the highway at 70 mph and the car will downshift and i could only go 40 mph no matter how hard i stepped on the gas. I had to pull over, turn the car off, wait ten minutes and then start it up again. Again this week it also happened.

My car battery died, roadside assistancejumped my car, mechanic replaced my batteries. The car started without problems, but then a message came up in my dashboard in red saying to drive the car to the workshop without shifting gears; after the mechanic checked the car and did some research he found that the intelligent servo module was bad; the card would not shift into gear. The vehicle was stationary with the engine running in the shop.

The vehicle gets stuck in a gear low or high and will not get out of that gear until the car is turned off and then back on. This is a very dangerous situation for a family that is either merging on to the highway or trying to accelerate. This is a problem for these vehicles and makes it very dangerous to drive. You do not know if it is stuck in a gear until you try to accelerate, it either will be in 1st gear or a high gear 5-6? and will accelerate very slowly.

While driving on highway, transmission suddenly lost power and went into limp mode (neutral) even though the car was in d and the same thing happened on stop light, car lost the power and i had to accelerate car hard to make it move and still didn't move finally i had to restart it, restarting the car solved the problem but it would come back once you are on highway speed, this can seriously cause the accident as you cant change the lane as your vehicle losses the power and it slows down and couple of times the transmission made a loud boom sound causing the vehicle speed to slowed down in very short span of time, and if the driver behind my car has short distance he\she might end up hitting back of the vehicle, there was a silent mercedes service bulletin s-b-27.00/120 raised by mercedes date apr 8 2011 for changing the valve body conductor plate in 7 speed transmission, where as it should have been a recall for 2007-2008 model gl450 but mercedes got away with it. This is really a safety concern and hidden truth from customers. I would request you to please look into this issue and there are tons of other people on forums who had the same issues for these 2 year models some got the free fix as they was under warrant and some had to pay out of pocket, there were few instances where this conductor plate failed within 5-45000 miles.

Transmission is getting stuck in a gear and not shifting up or down.the vehicle failed to shift and accelerate to maintain speed on an uphill incline on the highway.this was a scary and dangerous situation on the highway.i have had other failure to shift gear issues with this vehicle before and after this incident.the "fix" is to turn the car off and restart the vehicle.if this failure to shift gears occurs during a turn or other dangerous situation it can result in a fatality.i see numerous reports of this failure online from other '07 gl450 owners.this has to be addressed.

Takata recall .my car have the air shocks completely down the air is escaping from 3 of them and the car looks and drive very bad ,also the turbine speed control sensor is failing since i purcfchase this vehicle, tha car stop moving forward every time igot to a stop ,and i have to turn the car off and then turn the car on in order to keep moving

I was driving at night on a local road when the transmission locked up and would not shift up a gear. I immediately got into the nearest plaza and put the car in park and turned off the engine. I then restarted the car and the transmission was shifting correctly and was not locking into a gear. This has happened to me twice already. It is a major safety concern as i could have been in an accident with the car behind me. I could have also damaged internal components in my suv.

The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.updated 01/25/12

The plastic that holds the latch broke.we normally have a child seat buckled into that belt.but we were on a trip, and i was the one using this seat belt.i could not latch it, and found that a chunk of the plastic had broken away from the belt and would not latch.mercedes and my extended protection plan will not replace it without a cost. Of apprx 170.00i have never had an issue with a safety device in any vehicle that i have owned, and i believe that a car that costs over 80,000.00 would want to know why it has failed.i am grateful that my grand child was not buckled into this belt!

2007 mercedes gl450on dec 11 2009 i noticed the smell of something burning while driving my suv.shortly thereafter i felt an intense burning along my left lower back.i immediately pulled over and exited the vehicle.along the left side back of the drivers seat was a 1.5 x 0.5inch hole burnt through the fabric. I was using the seat heater at the time.the incident damaged my pants and leather jacket.

We were driving on san vicente blvd in beverly hills, my husband in the driver seat turned on the seat heaters in our suv and about one minute later we started smelling something burning and could not right away distinguish where the putrid smell originated from. Moments later the cabin started filling with smoke and the fumes become unbearable which made us, myself, husband and our 1.5yr old cough. My husband noticed his seat was hotter than usual, and quickly realized it was the seat the fumes and smoke were coming from and quickly turned off the heater. We stopped the car, jumped out, i grabbed my son from the back seat and we found a burnt hole in the driver seat!!

We had left the home - drove approximately 3 minutes at 20 miles an hour with the seat heater on. All of a sudden the seat started to smoke - it had caught fire. We had a baby in the car, were traveling down a mountain road in aspen. We pulled over to the side of the road and thankfully were able to put the fire out with snow from a snow bank (what would have happened if it was in the summer?). There is a big hole in our car seat now and obviously - we are not able to use the seat heaters.i see from the reports here that this has happened many times with the same vehicle -- there should be a recall done for this issue on this vehicle as someone may be injured severely in the future.

Drivers side seat heater burned through seat causing smoke and hole.

I turned on my ignition and the driver's side heated seat and immediately started to drive.i traveled about 500 feet and started to smell something burning.i thought it was my neighbor's fireplace, so drove less than 1 mile before i felt intense heat on my left side and saw smoke coming out of the seat.upon exiting the car, i saw that my seat was on fire.i turned off the heated seat button and the smoke and flame dissipated and then drove right to the dealer, who acted like it was no big deal whatsoever and said this happens because of the design of the wiring and is caused from wear and tear on the wiring from getting in and out of the vehicle. While at the dealership, i encountered an mb s320 owner who came in at the same time i did with the exact same issue. My car is out of warranty so the dealer wanted to charge us for the repair but we told him to talk to his manager because we were calling the newspapers or they were going to cover it. They agreed to replace the heat element and the seat back but refused to deal with the passenger seat.they have ordered the part and are supposed to call us in 3-4 days when the part comes in but we'll see if that happens. The fire originated on the left side of the seat. I'm shocked that the dealer didn't disable the heating mechanism before we left the dealership. I googled this issue and this is a very common problem. I'm now afraid to drive the car, especially with my kids and dog who may have trouble escaping a fire that may very likely happen. Also, once the repair is made (using the same protocol as the current defective wiring), since the cause of the short has not been corrected, this will happen again in another 2 or so years.

I was taking my kids to school in the morning and it was cold so i turned on my seat warmer and in about 5 min. We started smelling smoke and it was coming from my door side of the car and the smoke was pretty heavy, i was also feeling a burning sensation on my left side. I turn to take a look and the seat was on fire and it caused a burn through the seat, damaging my clothing. I turned of the seat warmer and stopped the car and took the kids out for some time. I was to scared to drive my car from that point on. I am in talks with the dealership and they want to take pictures of the seat. I have also gotten in touch with my insurance company to see if any coverage can be added to replace my seat. My car has all original parts and this has never happened to me before.

While driving2007 mercedes gl450 with my wife, after driving for 1 miles from our home with front seat heating i felt burn at my back and then my wife saw smoke coming out of the seats, we stoped the car and saw drive seat was burning and made a quarter size hole in the seat, i talked to mercedes benz of plano but they didn't have a clue. Even now if i turn it on it will catch fire -

I was driving in my neighborhood with my gl 450 seat warmer turned on in the drivers seat.i started smelling smoke & thought it was from outside.i opened my window, and smoke started swirling inside my car and started getting thicker within minutes.i pulled the car over to the street curb, turned my ignition off and discovered a melted hole about the size of a quarter burning & smoking.the sweater i was wearing also had a melted hole in it.the hole in the car is on the left side of the drivers seat.we contacted mercedes benz service here in san diego, and were just told to bring it in on monday - it happened on thurs. Morning.so we are waiting for monday, but in the meantime i am afraid to drive my car and want to report this incident, due to the extreme safety factor of the situation, but don't know what agencies to contact.this could potentially been a more dangerous situation as it was a burning electrical fire.thank goodness i could safely pull over and turn off the power to the car.thank you

As i was driving down the road i put on the seat warmer.approximately 1 mile later as i was about to enter the freeway i noticed an odor that smelled like smoke.i thought it was from the road being pavednearby, but then noticed that my seat was getting very hot by my lower left back.i glanced down and saw smoke, leaned forward and noticed a black hole in the seat that was glowing too.i pushed the seat warmer button off and started hitting the seat to put out the fire.i pulled over and although it was still smoking the fire appeared to have stopped.fortunately, i was not burned too badly.

2007 mercedes gl450- turned on seat heaters and within a couple minutes smelt burning material. Discovered the seat heater was burning a hole in the left side of the driver seat back. Turned off the seat heater but it had already burned a hole about the size of a dime. Took it immediately to the dealer where they stated they have seen the same problem before. They are ordering a replacement seat back, but are not willing to address my concerns about the other seat.

After starting vehicle and turning on seat warmers, the car smelled of a burning smell and i felt a very hot spot on my back. I turned off the seat warmers to find a hole burned into the leather. All occurred on the driver's side of 2007 mb gl-450.

After about 3 minutes of having my driver's side seat warmer on, we started to smell burning and the left side of my seat got very hot, so i turned off my seat warmer.when i got out of my car, i noticed a burn hole in my sweatshirt and then looked at my seat and it had a burn hole on it about 1/2-1" in size. What would have happened if i didn't turn it off if this happened in about 3 minutes?

Driving on hwy with my 3 children in car, i felt as if i had a sticker in my pants.something was poking me.then we all smelt something burning, which cdf was parked on the side of hwy so we didn't think anything about it.then my oldest said "mom there's smoke in the car"i looked back in my review mirror and saw the back of the car full of smoke.i immediately pulled off the side of the hwy and we all exited the car.upon doing so, i grabbed my personal and important belongings.noticed the drivers seat had a hole about the size of a nickel in the back portion.then my kids told me my pants had a hole, and then we noticed my skin had a blister.i had the car towed to the dealer(60 miles) rented a car that held 7 passengers, since i was on my way to pick my parents up from the airport 2 1/2 hours away from our home.mercedes declines to pay for rental car, took them 20 days to get parts and have it fixed.i am very unhappy with this vehicle and the dealer.they have never been any help since we purchased the car.

I started my car in the morning and turned on my heated seats as the seats begin to warm up i started to smell smoke i was itching on my back in the area of my far on my left side and i noticed that the seat was burning i immediately turned off my heated seats and then noticed that i was stuck to the seat because the seat at caught fire there was an apparent hole in the leather on the left right side of my driver seat where it was burning. This was scary and alarming because i didn't know if it would continue to ignite.

2 complaints -1 i was driving w/out a coat on & turned the drivers seat heater on.then i started feeling a sharp, stinging pain on my back and started smelling the burning of what turned out to be the seat.i almost had an accident trying to get what i thought was a stinging or biting insect off my back.once i realized it was the seat heater, i turned the seat heater off, only to find i now have ahole in my seat.if mercedes knows they have this problem, as i have come to read here, they should warn people not to use the heaters to avoid an accident and avoid having a hole in the seat or replace the seat and heater.#2 the front air suspension shock crashed on the front of my car.my car sat in the dealership for over a month waiting formercedes to reengineer the air shock.finally, they told us to buy an aftermarket and they would install.shortly thereafter rear of the car wouldn't level and they said it was the compressor so that was replaced.but still the rear was uneven so they replaced both rear shocks and still the car wouldn't level.then they had the nerve to tell me it was the front aftermarket and they now needed to be replaced.and the dealer told me the car was a 2007 so what should i expect.i stopped going to the dealer and instead took it to a private shop.they replaced a sensor for a minimal charge and the car has been fine since.

2007 mercedes benz gl450, did all scheduled maintenance at dealer, only 36000 miles, the 'brake wear' message just came up on the console. Dealer checked and said all brake pads, front brake rotors need to be replaced. So only 36k miles and well maintained vehicle, when the brake sensor just indicated 'brake wear' problem, not only all pads are bad, but also the rotors were damaged already? it seems to be defect of brake system, including the brake sensor.

Today my husband was involved in a car accident while driving my 2007 gl450. Thank god he wasn't injured but the situation he explained to me has happened several times before and i've been able to regain control of the car before something terrible happened. He left home for work at about 6am and while still in the subdivision driving about 20 miles/hr on a road with about 1" of snow, he tried to make a right turn but the brakes locked and the steering wouldn't turn and he ended up smashing the front end on a huge stone and ricocheting to a fire hydrant. Like i said, this has happened before and i'd been assuming that the skidding was because our tires were worn but we got brand new tires less than a week ago so this does not make any sense. I haven't been in touch with mercedes yet but i will be contacting them to advise them of this issue.

My 2007 mercedes benz gl450 has a problem since about 5,000 miles. The brake pedal has too much travel to stop especially, in traffic the pedal goes all most to the floor it is extremely dangerous.i have repeatedly brought it to the dealers attention. Even after they performed a complete brake job. There reply was it isnormal they all do the same.[xxx]parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Mercedes benz gl 450 2007. Steering got locked while driving. Later the dealer found out it because of steering pump presser went down. Mercedes service was not helpful on this. I was lucky that not much cars on the road when the incident happen.

I had been noticing that the front of my car had been dropping down and rising up spontaneously.when the front of the truck dropped down the car began to violently bounce up and down to the point that i nearly hit my head on the roof.the car was barely drivable until it rose up again.on 2/18/2011 i pulled my truck out of the garage and heard an explosion and the right front side dropped down and would not rise up again.i took it to my mechanic and he said that the air struts were gone.the right side had exploded.he contacted many of his prior employee's who work at mercedes benz dealerships and they told him they had been having problems with this part.they even had the parts in stock due to the demand.this is definitely a safety issue and if i or my wife were on the highway traveling at 70 mph and this occurred, that could have been a fatal rollover.i also have a problem with my powersteeringlocking up when i turn the wheel..my mechanic also said that this has been an issue and a recurrent problem part.i bought this vehicle for safety and it turns out this is the farthest from it.i also had to have my driver's seat replaced by mercedes as it burnt a hole through the leather nearly catching my wife's coat on fire.please investigate.

My tail gate won't lock my power steering is way hard to turn

I had just started driving down the road 2 miles and going around 25-30 mph and the car shut off and the steering wheel locked. There was cars behind me and i was able to put my hazards on. Thankfully cars were coming up to stop sign so i was able to steer off road. Started car upand drove a little further and car shut down again and locked steering repeated 4 more times til was able to get home. I was getting ready to get on freeway with my young kids in the car could have been so dangerous.

2007 mercedes gl450 air suspension compressor all the sudden became noisy popped the hood to confirm noise and it was the air suspension compressor car was driving fine had to get to my destination only 2 miles away then all of the sudden boom i thought my tire blew out car started bouncing in the rear badly pulled over to check and the rear of the car was all the way down scaired the heck out of me got home crawled under car and the left rear air suspension bag blew apart completely no warning at all except the display on dash stated compressor cooling down hope mercedes will somehow help with repair and look into this for a safety issue and possibly help with the repair somehow as i see the airpump was just changed in 2013 thanks for listening.

There's a whistling sound on the front passenger side.the vehicle was running low than usual and there message indicator states that there's an failure with suspension.

Air suspension failure:initial failure - front end suspension failed - lowered completely where tires would appear to contact wheel well.dealer 'fixed' problemsecond failure - left front air suspension lowered, the remaining three did not lower itself. The car drives at an odd angle with left front end pointing to the ground.again the tire appears to make contact with the wheel well.ride is rough.
