The warning light indicating that the airbag might not deploy is illuminated. Could this be a manufracturing defect?
I am referencing a mercedes benz service bulletin p-b-91.60/99e. The control cluster shows srs light being illuminated. I took my car into a mercedes dealer and paid to have care analyzed. The mechanic indicated my car has the following fault codes: dtc 9103 (the resistance value in the ignition circuit containing component r12/13 is too high) and dtc 9123 (the resistance value in the ignition circuit containing component r12/14 is too high). Both pertaining to a faulty scm harness located on the steering column. I was told this is dangerous and that in the event of a crash, my airbags will not deploy. I am concerned that if mbusa knows that this is an issue and has even gone so far as to make a service kit to repair harness, why are they not responsible to repair this, especially given the extreme danger this is posing? i have looked into the cost of the parts, retail and for around $100 to purchase. The dealer wants over $700 for labor alone, plus another $250 for parts. This is supposed to be the safest car company in the world and i would think that this would be something they would want to address quickly. For the amount of money i paid for this vehicle, i believe i should be able to trust that it will protect me in the event of a crash. I am very afraid to even drive this vehicle.
Takata recall.
Airbag deployment/inflation impact injures passenger, causing lesion and burn. At a school op sign intersection, my vehical was hit on the driver side (t-bone), between the fender and the driver side door, all the side airbags on the left was deployed, the impact of the airbag deployment severely injured my 9 year old daughter.
Driving down the road when an alert that the srs system had detected a failureand lit up on the gauge cluster. Had a an independent mercedes shop read codes which were:failure of supplemental restraint system on a 2005 mercedes e500 wagon. The "srs" light came on for no apparent reason. The car was taken to amercedes dealer for repair. The wiring harness in the steering column that sends and receives data to drivers side airbag 1 caused a failure in whatis known as the squib for the affected airbag. The dealer told me that in theevent of a crash the airbag would not deploy. They even knew about it andhad a bulletin but no recall so i was charged about $735 for the repair. I wastotally shocked that a brand that prides itself in safety technology would notstand behind the product and fix a known issue on a goodwill campaign thatcould be a potentially fatal parts failure. The problem is so common that theyeven have a kit for the wiring harness fix. After doing a lot reading on many mercedesinfo sites i found out it is affecting a potential of over 100,000 e class cars andthe cl class cars that share the chassis and many components. I am glad i gotit fixed because i know how much safer the car is with a functional airbag.
Just received my e500 from the mercedes benz repair shop 2.5 weeks ago. They fixed the previous interior oil smell, however i noticed my alarm going off when i was driving or by itself sometimes while the car sat in the driveway. This happened two different days but the car still drove. Then i went to open my car yesterday morning on my way to work and the car has no power. I'm assuming the alarm eventually wore on the battery. Now i have no car to drive. Help!!!

The contact owns a 2005 mercedes-benz e500w, while driving approximately 60 mph, the contact depressed the brake pedal, but the brakes failed. As a result, the contact drove through a stop light. The contact stated that the epc warning indicator was illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and was able to resume driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the epc unit failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 129,000.
On three separate occasions, the engine suddenly shut off as the vehicle was decelerating to a stop.twice it occurred as the vehicle was coming to a stop at a stoplight and once it happened as the vehicle was on an off-ramp, exiting i-95.on the first two occasions, at the stoplights, the vehicle restarted immediately.on the third occasion, on the off-ramp, the vehicle would not restart until it was allowed to cool for at least five minutes.this was particularly dangerous on the off-ramp.after the third occasion, i had the vehicle towed to a repair shop where it was determined that the "crank position sensor" was failing and needed to be replaced.the engine shutting down at any time while the car is in motion is a safety hazard.owners should be notified that it can happen and should be urged to get it checked.
Controls on steering column periodically do not work.while most of these are convenience items, the horn also did not work.happened 4 times--12/16 driving to work; 12/'20 driving to and from dulles airport; 12/26 in the morning.each time the temperature was below 30 degrees f.dealer serviced vehicle on 12/22--said wiring was repaired but experienced same problem again on 12/26.restarting car does not reset the controls.concerned about driving without an operable horn.
Suffocating oil smell inside and outside automobile. Pregnant wife became nauseous and had to open all windows and sunroof.passenger front suspension has liquid splattering on underneath of engine hood. Suspension makes extreme loud knocking sound when going up hill or over a bump.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. The contact stated that the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact mentioned that there was a manufacturer's recall related to the failure, but the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 167,000.
I took my car 2005 e500 for regular maintenance at the dealer and was told the ball bearings needed to be replaced in july 2011. Then after checking everything out, the dealer told me the fuel ring under the seat needs to be replaced. Cost usd 600. Also there was gasoline seeping out of car onto the driveway when car was parked.i started smelling gasoline smell in march 2012. I took the car again to the dealership in july 2012 and this time they replaced the fuel system. Cost usd 2100. There were puddles of gasoline in my garage after the service. I was told there might be gasoline smell. After the smell lingered after every fillup i took the car back to dealership.the dealership again wanted to charge me usd 3000 for the fuel leak but i told them i just fixed the fuel leak problem. This was in sept 2012. This time the dealership didn't charge me anything. I again took my car to the dealership for a check engine light that came on in sept 2013 to mercedes benz in grapevine, tx. I was told there is a leak in the fuel tank and the cost is usd 2115. I told the dealer about the nhtsa investigation, class action lawsuit for the fuel system on mercedes e500 vehicles and the service advisor, matt pinecrest, told me the case was settled and mercedes won. This is obviously a falsehood.this problem has now taken an emotional toll on me since i can't drive my car properly without worrying.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph and applied the brakes however, the brakes malfunctioned and caused the contact to momentarily lose control of the vehicle. The braking power reduced warning lightilluminated after the failure occurred. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic but the failure could not be duplicated and no repairs were performed. The vehicle was later taken to an authorized dealer, who advised that the sbc hydraulic pump would need to be replaced. The contact was informed that the manufacturer was aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 104,981. Updated 01/23/2014 according to the invoice, both front brake hoses were dry rotted and cracked, the left outer axle boot was torn and leaking, the serpentine engine belt was badly worn, and was splitting down the middle. The engine cover gaskets were leaking oil, the driver's sun visor was damaged and would not fold up properly, the transmission pilot bushing was leaking transmission oil into the vehicle harness. Code: 4a30 engine control module not identified or incorrect control module.code: 54f0 can communication with control unit transmission control is sporadically disturbed.safety issue: i recently got off the freeway, came to a stop, and then attempt to proceed normally with the vehicle now stuck in 5th (or whatever the sensor chooses) gear, and no power steering- there is a reasonable user presumption that the car would accelerate normally and be able to safely join traffic....instead it crawls forward at a few miles an hour into potential harms way with no way to accelerate the vehicle normally, thereby leaving the driver and our children in danger. I speak from personal experience, and would not wish this terror experience on our worst enemy. Mercedes montvale nj will not participate on fixing the cause of this safety issue.
My car is e500, 2005.it is 42,333 miles but it is leaking right engine motor mount.why does it happen? does it cause injuries or death? is it defect from mercedes-benz?does mercedes-benz need to fix without charge?please advise.thank you

The design of fuel pump in all the mercedes benz is very very defective , the company has shown gross negligenceto safety of consumers, when ever i fill up the fuel tank , it starts leaking andstarts emitting very foul smell in side and out side the car, i think if there is too much leakage ofgas which is fitted under the back seats of car , if there is smoker passenger , the car can catch fire right away, i have complained to the dealer to fix this problem , the do not want to cover under warranty for safety , because the car is more than 4 years old andthe mileage is more than 50,000, i complained to the head office in new jersey , they suggested me to replace the tank , and pay for it ,the estimate is about $4000.00 , since it is safety issue they should recall all the cars, which are in thousands with the same defect, i hope you can take care of this problem or file a class law suit to be files again the company for gross negligence.
The contact owns 2005 e500 mercedes benz.a strong odor of fuel is present throughout the vehicle and in his garage. Fuel also leaks out of the vehicle occasionally. The dealer stated that the gasket needed to be replaced. The contact is aware of the safety risk which could cause a fire. The current mileage was 79,000 and failure mileage was 61,000.
Fuel appears to be leaking inside the passenger compartment as there is an extremely strong smell of fuel.car is not running normally and you can even smell fuel on the outside.car will not accelerate properly.concern of such strong smell of fuel leaking inside car is risk of fire and personal injury.
2005 mercedes benze class has fuel tank issues. Many owners have reported the same issue 2 to 3 years after purchase. First the fuel cap indicator comes on, later triggering the engine light to appear and upon repair attempts everything but the fuel tank is suspected. The end result after adjusting and tweaking many other parts associated with the fuel evap system, replacing the fuel tank resolved the issue. This is unsafe. A few owners reported a filter valve connected to the fuel tank under the back seat actually getting hot, very hot while driving. Please let's not wait until loss of life forces us to act!!! Reference nhtsa action #pe12001last year i began to smell gasoline vapors when my mb e500 gas tank is 100% full.the smell finally goes away after using about 1/4 of the tank.the gasoline smell is so bad, i need to leave my garage door partially open to help remove the smell.currently there are no signs of gasoline leaking on the ground, but the smell of gasoline is very strong both inside and outside the car.i've resolved myself to only filling up my tank to 75% full each time i re-fuel. I cannot find the leak or determine the gernal area around the tank which is leaking.this is a serious safety issue with the generation of gas vapors in a confirmed space (inside the car or garage).
Fuel pump / sender fuel leak under rear seat. Has gas smell after getting gas. Check engine light comes on with gas cap warning light constantly, especially if add gas more than 3/4 tank. Over the years (i still own the vehicle), even with 1/2 tank gas the gas cap warning light would come on from time to time, especially in hot weather. Dealer hasn't been able to fix issue since i bought car as cpo in 2008. They told me to replace gas cap. Replaced, no impact. I opened up the rear seat and can see gas stains in the fuel sender/pump cap area with some residual gas.
There is a strong odor of unburnt fuel coming from my car after filling up the gas tank. I can't tell at this point where exactly the smell is coming from. I do not see a puddle of fuel on the ground or anything like that. The smell is very strong; i can smell it throughout my whole 2 car garage. I am very worried what part of the fuel system has failed.
After filling up the vehicle and driving for a short period of time ,i parked the car in my garage . When i came back to the car the whole garage smelled like gasoline. After further inspection i did not see any gas leaking. When i get in the car the car smells like gas on the inside. So i drive it until the gas runs to like 1/4 of the tank thinking the smell goes away. The smell is still there and is unbearable. The car sits in the garage for a couple of months now and still reek of gas smell. The kids and wife will not go in there cause the smell is that bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Noticed a fuel smell in cabin of vehicle.brought vehicle to authorized mercedes service center who determined a seam in the plastic fuel tank had split allowing vapors into the cabin. Required complete fuel tank replacement. Updated 9/19/13
When ever we fill up the fuel tank , it starts emitting too much foul smell . I complained to the new jersey mercedes head quarter, they told me to go dealer for diagnose, dealer told me to replace the tank, whichcosts about $ 4000 ,00 there is defective design of the location offuel tank, that is located under the back seats, if it emits fouls smell that means leaking gas , if any passenger happen to be smoker, that can catch fire and cause death and injuries, they have very very defective design and do not admit product liability problem.all these cars should be recalled .
Each time i fill out the tank, it gives such a horrible fumes smell inside my car.
After filling up the gas tank, there is a strong odor of gasoline both inside the cabin and outside the car.it is nauseating and causes severe headaches to the driver and passengers.check engine light has illuminated with a series of codes consistent with loss of vacuum (evap).fumes are leaking into the atmosphere but moreover are imparting the driver's ability to safely operate the vehicle due to the associated nausea and headaches.
The contact owns a 2005 e500 mercedes benz.the contact stated that after refueling, a strong gasoline fuel odor was noticed throughout the vehicle and in the contact's garage. The odor would diminish after the fuel tank had reached one half full or below. The vehicle was not repaired or inspected. The manufacturer was not notified of the incident.the approximate failure mileage was 102,000. Updated 11/13/13*lj
One week after a visit to palm springs, ca., where the average daily temperature was about 116, i noticed a smell of gasoline after refueling. The following 3 weeks, the odor worsened when refueled. This a.m., i pulled the rear seat and cover plate on the left side and found pooled gasoline in the cavity provided for the sending unit atop the fuel tank. As a leak in this area had been addressed by the dealer in 2011, i felt this was an "on going " issue that should be addressed by the mb dealer. As of this writing, i've not found a sympathetic ear at my local mb dealer, yet i must correct the problem as soon as i "burn off" 50% of the gasoline so as to make the repair safer. My home has the gas water heater located in the garage and with liquid fuel present atop the tank, i'm forced to leave my e500 outside!i view this as a safety and, in california, an epa issue and it should be dealt with accordingly by state and federal agencies.
Driving on street--instrument cluster lights up red saying "check fuel tank cap"--drive to park turn off engine--check fuel cap -check engine light comes on-- same exact thing happened 5 days later.
Strong smell of fuel when tank is has been filled up. At first it was just present standing outside the car at the rear drivers side. Now i can smell it inside. The dealer told me i need a $1300 dollar repair. They want to replace the fuel tank, the fuel pumpand the sending unit. I have done a lot of reading about this and have found out that this problem is affecting a lot of e class owners from the 2003-2009 productions and even a couple of other mercedes models. One of the service advisers told me they are replacing a lot of tanks, pumps and senders on thisstyle of e class. I am aware there is a recall on the amg e55 for fuel tank/pump/sender leak. They use the same parts in the regular e class cars, not just amg versions.i am afraid to drive the car and can not afford the repair without going into debt. So i have decided to park it.mercedes of usa has ignored my plea for help. Based on the potentially lethal issue leaking fuel can cause i feel it is best to leave the car parked. This is paralyzing me financially and even more importantly there are lives at risk all over the roads and a lot owners do not even know they are driving a fire hazard.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Strong fuel smell after filling tank.fuel leaking and puddling on top of tank.
Was just informed today that our 2005 mercedes e 500 sedan needs the fuel/gas tank replaced due to a leak in the upper portion of the gas tank.this is nearly a $2000 job and i believe mercedes needs to address this issue for owners effected by this problemthe nhtsa action number on file for this issue is:pe12001 from browsing the web, i see this is an issue with other mercedes owners as well.
Fuel leak from tank.vapors and fire risk.fatigue cracking.maybe related to ea13-003 and pe12-001......updated 06-12-15 updated 08/23/2017*ct
Upon refueling this 2005 mercedes benz e500 vehicle according to the owners manual, within an hour the car exhibits gasoline odors emitting from the interior of the car as well as strong gasoline odor from outside of the car. This lasts until the gas indicator shows roughly 50% to 60% of fuel remaining. We have previously owned a 2003 mercedes benz e320 as well with a the exact same issue, we ended up trading that car in on march 23, 2011. I found this on your website describing the condition my car is in. Date investigation opened: mar 15, 2013date investigation closed: opennhtsa action number: ea13003component(s): fuel system, gasoline
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. The contact noticed a fuel leak between the driver side fuel tank and the fuel pump, which seeped to both rear seats. A strong gasoline fuel odor emitted inside of the vehicle whether in operation or stationary. The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. The contact stated that fuel fumes were emitted in and around the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
My e500 has a strong gasoline smell coming from the vehicle after putting a full tank of gas. The gas smell does not go away and there are no faults on the dashboard. The smell is also slightly present inside the cabin of the vehicle.
Strong odor of fuel/gasoline vapor inside and outside the car usually occurs for up to 48 hours after refueling of the vehicle especially noticeable after sitting in enclosed space (garage) overnight.have found leakage results raw fuel pooling and/or spraying onvehicle underside of the seat cushion. Research points me march, 2008 emissions recall conducted by mercedes benz (emissions recall campaign # 2008-020001) which involved potential cracking of the fuel filter module in vehicles exposed to high ambient temperatures.
Emission system has multiple issues over time that cause check engine ligjt to engage. Problem s range from, gas cap to fuel tank parts to valves to carbon canister issues. All issues occur when vehicle is stationary and in motion. No impact.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes-benz e500. The contact stated that after fueling, he noticed a strong fuel odor being emitted from the rear seats and rear wheel well. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 143,000.
Bad fuel smell coming into the cab of the vehicle.they have already replaced fuel pump last year and it was smelling so i thought there was something related to that.i went to the mechanic and after they took apart the back seat, they showed me the work they did and the current problem which was a leak in the gas tank from the top bolt that is molded to the plastic tank.he then showed me a stack of tanks about 5 or 6 fuel tanks high, that he said were the tanks that they changed out last week, saying this is a common problem.the rough estimate was $2000.00.
Gas fumes leaking above gas tank gasket, and going into car from under rear view seats, this is a emissions matter and safety matter, its not healthy for people to breath gas fumes every time they pump gas. Also to the matter, i am a certified smog technician and this is a fail smog inspection due to leaking gas fumes. My car is a ulev vehicle so the warranty is up to 150000 miles, but i'm writing this because it should be fix. Lots of owners are just ignoring it due to cost or repair!!this have been an ongoing problem with this vehicle.
After filling up my car at the gas station the inside of the car smelled like gasoline so badly i had to drive home in the rain with the windows down. The smell has not dissipated and after doing research i found that this is a common issue with this make and model vehicle and that the nhtsa is investigating mercedes for this potential safety hazard. I want this problem fixed because i do not feel that it is safe to inhale gas fumes while driving and that a fuel leak is a dangerous defect that the manufacturer should fix.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e 500. The contact stated that there were gasoline fumes inside the garage where vehicle was parked. The contact soon discovered that fuel was leaking from the vehicle and onto the floor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the fuel tank had to be replaced. The fuel tank was not replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, however no further assistance was provided. The manufacturer advised to avoid refueling the fuel tank to capacity. The failure mileage was 147,000. The current mileage was 160,000.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and the top seal and the fuel pump were repaired.the vehicle was repaired but the failure reoccurred. The dealer stated that the since the vehicle was repaired previously at a independent mechanic, the dealer will nolonger cover the recall even though the repair cost were covered by the contact initially. The manufacturer was made aware of failure. The vehicle failure mileage was 150,000.
After filling up the car with fuel and driving 5 minutes home, the cabin of the car and areas around the rear of the car have a pervasive odor of fuel.
Red colored message appeared on dashboard window readout indicating a problem with the gas cap. The message appears inter mitenaly while driving along with the check engine message. Message came on 7/717 while driving on highway and continues except when engine is shut down.
I took my car to the dealership because it was a red battery on the dash board, i was told i need a fuel pump, i told the dealership i have a warranty for this, but i was told the paper i have explain what a warranty is, i called mercedes headquarters several times and i was told i keep calling about the same thing its in the notes it is up to the service manager to approve the warranty i had to pay for the car repairs even tho i had a warranty. I took my car to another mechanic and i was told i need a battery, my car in the streets while i was driving to the dealership i called and had it towed to the dealership my grandbaby and i was in the heat for over an hour waiting for the tow truck, i also took my car to goodyear and they put it on the computer 2x and they did not know why the red light was on they but though i just need another battery
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. The contact stated that fuel fumes emitted into the vehicle and the check engine light illuminated. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician diagnosed that the auxiliary pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 146,648.
After filling up the tank, there would be very noticeable gas vapors especially in enclosed spaces like the garage.at half a tank, the gas smell goes away.i decided to take it to the mercedes dealer.the advisor asked me to sit down before he delivered the bad news.the gas tank has warped!this is a garage kept luxury car with only 42,000 miles. How can its gas tank warp i asked him and he said it has already happened to 8 other cars in the dealership. There was nothing i could do to prevent it from happening. Mercedes will not help any and it will cost $2,550 to change the tank to solve the problem. He said he can bring it down to $2,300 after discounts.i hope mercedes benz steps up to the plate to address this critical issue.
After completely filling up my fuel tank and drove away, i was overwhelmed by a strong fuel fumes. When i arrived at my residence, i found that some fuel had leaked onto the ground. I went online and found all over the internet that other owners of this class of vehicle have had similar problems related to the fuel sending units located under the back seat. When i looked under the seat the pad had fuel through to the foam under the seat. I allowed it to air out, and called mbz as i noticed that dot had filed a report in 04/2012 in regards to this problem in all w211 e class mercedes in conjunction with the recall for the e55 2008-020001. I called mbz and they stated that they couldn't do anything about it no matter how documented by other owners. We have a two year old that sits in a car seat, this is clearly unacceptable if a known issue on behalf of mercedes.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500.the contact stated that there was an abnormally overpowering odor of gasoline after refueling to capacity. The contact was not able to detect a fuel leak. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repairs. The manufacture was not notified. The failure mileage was 67,954 and the current mileage 67,956.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e-500. The contact stated that fuel fumes were emitting from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the fuel pump sending unit was leaking after the tank was filled. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 95,000.
After driving the car about 20 miles (30 mins), i smelled gas.ever since that day the smell of gas has been coming from rear drivers side.it started off faint but now has become stronger.
Possible gas leak...strong gas smell on each fuel up. Stays around until tank drops to about half full. No other signals and mercedes benz had me replace the gas cap. Nothing changed. Please advise.
Gas is leaking under the back seat and garage is filled withgas smell. When dealer opened the seat, pool of gas was found.dealer replaced sender units and the issue never resolved. Now the dealer is saying tank is leaking and mercedes refuse to pay or assist for the repair. It is defect fuel assembly and very high safety issue. We sitting on top of the leaking gasoline and company refuses to acknowledge the problem.
After filling up tank with 93 octane gasoline fuel smell persist until tank at 3/4 of capacity. Problem has repeated all times when tank filled up.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. While the vehicle was parked, the contact noticed fuel fumes emitting from the outer part of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 112,000.
There is a strong fuel odor inside the cabin of the vehicle.the odor is so strong sometimes that it gives me a headache.i know this can't be good for my health and i've read that other people are having the same type of problem with this model car.this problem usually occurs after refilling the gas tank and lasts about a week at a time.
Upon fueling the vehicle there is a very pungent gasoline vapor smell from both the exterior & interior of the car. The smell begins to dissipate when fuel in the tank reaches 3/4-1/2 tank. The smell of fumes is enough to produce nausea, headaches, itching skin, watering eyes & even vomiting in drivers & passengers. Even with windows down & sunroof open, the smell is intolerable. The car will "sputter" when stopped at traffic lights. The vehicle currently has 105,800 miles on it. This issue was first noticed at approximately 103,000. An appointment has been scheduled with a mb dealership for inspection on 2/6/2016. I do not feel comfortable driving the vehicle due to the physical symptoms we've presented from the fumes & fear of a fire due to the potential of a faulty fuel tank/system. My 5 & 6 year old sons sit in the rear of the vehicle & can't tolerate the fumes. We've had to resort to carrying my sons asthma inhaler with us when riding in this vehicle. The vapors have directly affected his asthma & we feel the fumes are responsible for an asthma attack that has occurred when he's ridden as a passenger. Issue needs to be solved immediately at the expense of mb, extremely hazardous problem & numerous similar reports have been filed.
When i fill up, i there is a strong odor of gas from outside my car, in the back seat and i can smell it when my car is parked in my 2 car garage.
I have been noticing a very strong odor of gasoline coming out of the driver side passenger seat in the back, outside of the car. The order is in the inside of the car as well, but it is most noticeable outside of the vehicle. It generally happens when i fill up the gas tank and then dissipates after the gas tank is around 3/4 to 1/2 full. I am really concerned about this issue not only, because it is affecting my gas milage, but because it is risking not only my life but the lives of my passengers. I am sure that the inhalation of gasoline vapors is not good for anyones health and not to mention the dangers of the vapors in the presence of any kind of flame. I did some research on the issue, and i have found that this is not an isolated event. This has lead me to believe that this is a design flaw of mbusa. My research has also showed me that mbusa has been aware of the issues for quite some time, but is insisting on its costumer pay the repairs that range anywhere from $300 to $1500. I would completely understand, the customers accepting the responsibility for the repairs, if mbusa provided a product that was not already flawed in its inception.
Fuel pump under warranty and mercedes dealer refused to reimburse for repair
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. The contact stated that the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The contact mentioned that there was a manufacturer's recall related to the failure, but the vin was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 167,000.
2005 mercedes e500 wagon has a strong fuel odor inside and outside the vehicle when the fuel tank is completely filled. This odor persists for a few days until the fuel level has gone down. This has persisted for about a year. Due to this safety issue, mb has extended the warranty on this part to repair it. Vehicle was taken to mb of plano for repair. Once the technician confirmed the fuel tank needed to be replaced, the technician followed the procedure which requires them to remove the muffler system to remove the fuel tank. The technician stated that a muffler bracket was rusted and would need to be replaced to complete the repair. The dealership notified me that this bracket is only available as a part of the complete muffler and would cost ~$600 to replace and would not be covered by the warranty. The muffler was operating properly and does not need to be replaced for any other reason. The dealership appealed the warranty and that was denied. I appealed to the mercedes executive referral team and they also denied the claim due to the age and mileage of the vehicle. If i am not willing to spend $600 to replace a perfectly good muffler, then i will have to drive a vehicle with two small children that has a live gasoline leak inside the cabin because mercedes benz will not replace the muffler bracket.i have been in contact with ralph at mercedes benz executive referral as well as the mercedes benz of plano service department.
After refueling a strong smell of fuel vapors is present inside the car for varying periods of time dependent upon temperature and whether the car is in the garage or outside. Based on various message boards most indicate a faulty fuel tank or connections to the fuel tank.
I have a terrible odor of gasoline coming from inside my mercedes e500 4matic wagon especially after i fill the tank.
I bought the car in may of 2011.upon purchase i noticed a smell of fuel after i would top the tank off.i had a dealer repair it (~$800) and then noticed it again this past winter (dec 2012).it is the same problem as before, leaking (fumes only) just on top of the tank under the back seat.it is the exact same issue as described in articles i have read about the nhtsa investigation of mercedes-benz e-classes.this is a problem, i believe it should be recalled.
Strong odor of gas in the cabin, soaked rear under-seat pad, rear seat soaked with fumes.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500.the contact stated that fuel fumes were emitted inside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that there was a fuel leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
I noticed a strong smell of gasoline after filling the fuel tank. Smell is very strong both inside and outside the vehicle. This occurs every time i fill the tank. Sometimes fuel also leaks onto ground underneath the car.took to mercedes dealer for diagnosis.they report that seals around 2 fuel tank covers have failed. The repair involves replacing the entire fuel tank.i have not made the repair due to high cost. I have learned that this is happening in many mercedes e class vehicles in same age range.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. The contact stated that the vehicle emitted a strong gasoline odor. The vehicle was not inspected or diagnosed for the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500.the contact stated that fuel fumes emitted into the vehicle and no warning lights illuminated on the instrument panel when the vehicle was started.the vehicle had not been taken to a mechanic for a diagnosis of the problem. Therefore, the vehicle had not been repaired.the manufacturer had been notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was unknown and the vin was unavailable.
Strong gasoline smell in the car, took it to the dealer fordiagnosis, gas leaking from top of gas tank which was underneath the back seat.remedy was to replace the fuel pump. Which i did at a cost of $479.63.
In june 2012 i was experiencing a strong gas odor upon filling my tank. Over the course of the next few months i visited 3 shops trying to find the issue with the odor. The first two claimed there was no leak in my tank and they were not sure of the problem. The last shop said there was no leakbut could smell the odor in the vehicle. At this point it cost me, just less than $ 2000.,to fix issues related to the smell.#replaced cannister vent control solenoid.# auxsending unit #wiring harness fuel tank pressure sensor # wiring harness for vent control solenoid.i would not have fixed the problem, but the smell of fuel caused major concern, especially driving my children around.this did solve the problem.i read a newspaper article from the nhtsa today and it was talking abouta leak in the tanks, as stated above, i do not believe this to be the case.would i have recourse after the fact from mercedes from this obvious defect ?2005 mercedese500
The fuel tank, pump and sender started leaking. Fuel had pooled on top of sender unit. This made my daughter in the back seat so ill we had to take her to urgent care. I called a dealer. Bought "improved seals for the sender and pump. The problem is not gone.now the dealer is telling me it could be $1500-$2500 to replace the tank and sender/pump.it is unreal that a potentially lethal fuel leak is widely known about all the 2003-2008 e class mercedes and nothing is being done. Does somebody have to burn to death in a fiery crash before mercedes or the nhtsa gets serious about this issue.the car has had to be parked. I am still making payments on it and have to go buy another car that is not a rolling fuel explosion waiting to happen.i am begging the nhtsa for the safety of hundreds of thousand e class owners to have mercedes recall these cars.
Heavy smell of gas fumes after refilling my e500. The smell is worst around the drivers back seat. The smell of gas is both inside and outside of the car. Horrible to drive the car - even with windows and roof open.
Started smelling gas from the drivers side of the car.faint at first but when the car was refilled to full tank it was very strong. While in the vehicle we were breathing gas fumes. The gas gauge read half tank and we broke down because we were actually on e.the fuel sensor or float was bad too and now the gauge has gone bad. The whole system is being affected.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. The contact stated that there was a fuel odor emitting from the inside of the vehicle. The contact discovered that fuel was leaking into the rear driver's side seat. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 110,000.
I started smelling a stong gasoline smell after filling the gas tank on this car. After the car was driven for about 50 miles, the smell would go away. Today, may 16, 2012, i took the car to a denver mecedes dealer to ask about the problem. Dealer reported that there was a crack in the fuel tank, next to the top left fuel pump. This seems to be the same problem related to your investigation on pe 12-001. The dealer asked for $2000 to repair this problem. I am waiting for the repair pending this investigation and mercedes response.
I am referencing action # pe12001. After each of my last two feelings, the car is emitting a very strong smell of gasoline. I park my car in my garage and the smell is strong enough that i can smell it in my home. I am extremely fearful that there will be a fire. I do not desire to park my car outside, but i believe the car is unsafe to keep in garage. I have lost confidence in my car fearing that even driving it around town could pose a danger to me and my passengers.
Noticed a fuel smell in cabin of car and in closed garage.very strong when recently filled up.brought to dealer and they found leaking fuel pump assembly on drivers side.required complete replacement of fuel system.
When i full my gas tank, i get a strong odor of gasoline both inside the car and outside.inside the vehicle the gasoline smell is throughout the car and smells strongest in the driverside rear seat location. Outside the vehicle the strongest smell of gasoline seems to be coming from the driverside rear door/wheel well. The smell seems to last until the gas level goes below 3/4 of a tank of gasoline. This happens everytime i full the gasoline tank.
A couple weeks after my brake hydraulics went out (which was repaired under warranty) i started to notice a strong gas smell from inside of my car, along with a check engine light. After a couple weeks of airing out i decided to take it in to mercedes benz of littleton for repair. I was charged $1500 for the repair, which still left my car smelling like gas and check engine light came back on with the same error code(small evap. Leak) i lifted the back seat to find the bottom soaked in gunnky gas along with electrical wires running through the leak area. I'm afraid my car will catch on fire or blow up. I'm sick of these dangerous malfunctions that i feel mercedes knows about but won't repair for free. I asked the service tech what i can do to prevent this from happening and he said "nothing". Now i'm $1500 in the drain and the problem is not fixed, and i was reassured the problem would show up again.
Updated 03/18/14..updated 03/18/14
After coming to a stop at an entrance to a busy highway, my 2005 e500 just barely moved onto the busy highway, and would not accelerate.the transmission was "stuck" in one of the higher gears.i pulled the car to the shoulder, turned off the ignition, and restarted it.after restarting, it worked normally.this has occurred numerous times since then.there seems to be some sort of electrical problem with this transmission.this is seems particularly dangerous when trying to merge into traffic from a stop, or crossing a busy intersection.a little bit of investigative work has revealed that this is very common with the mercedes 722.9 seven speed automatic transmission.
On the day of the incident, the car gear was shifted to drive, but rather than going forward, it proceeded to roll backwards on the incline on which it was parked as if it were in neutral.the car was then towed to the nearest dealer and the service department said that a clip in the gear box had broken and had to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes-benz e500. The contact stated there was an abnormal fuel odor detected. The vehicle was taken to euro auto center (5180 venice blvd los angeles, ca 90019, (323) 938-9888) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the rear seats were soaked in fuel. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.## vin passed ## mercedes-benz e500 2005 ##
The sbc sensonic brake control on my 2005 mercedes was faulty and according to recall website on this vehicle this is a recall part reported to nhts.recall # 2005070007 and 2005110001 the dealership refuse to replace the faulty part for free.this is supposed to be a recall part. I purchased the car used from the dealer march 2013 but they did not tell me about this issue, after i asked them if any recall on 2005 mercedes.the service mgr said its a warranty issue,to my knowledge recall does not expire. And is not the same as warranty.
I was exiting the interstate freeway onto a frontage road (travelling ~45mph). A warning message said that there was a failure of the braking system. I tried to slow down, but had lost all braking power. Fortunately, there was no one in front of me. The vehicle automatically downshifted to a low gear which helped slow me down. I came to a stop in a safe location, put the car in park, and turned off the engine. When i re-started the car, normal braking function returned. The mercedes dealership said that this was a normal issue with this model. A hydraulic unit of some sort needed replacing.
I was driving on the highway at about 55mph,and all of a sudden the brake lights came on saying reduce braking power. Car was very difficult to stop. I almost hit a guard rail.
When attempting to exit the highway, the sensotronic brake control system (sbc) failed and there were no noticeable brakes.the pedal went all the way to the floor with no resistance.manufacturer claims that if you apply additional pressure during a failure, there will be some braking power available.in the situation though, when the pedal goes to the floor, human instinct is to immediately find an alternative way to stop the car.i was able to stop by downshifting the transmission and applying the emergency brake.less experienced drivers may not be so lucky.mercedes benz usa is aware of the potential for all sbc electric pumps to fail at any time causing this same situation for anyone.they are unwilling to cover the defective part because i am 1 month beyond the 'extended warranty.'they claim that as with any car parts, the sbc system can be expected to fail at some point.anything beyond 10 years and they do not take responsibility for.normally i would agree with that sentiment, but not when it concerns the primary electric system of electric brakes to fail.there should at least be a sufficient and noticeable hydraulic back up if this part is engineered to fail.mercedes has recently extended all fuel tank related issues and components to 15 year coverage, and this would at least be a step in the right direction for the sbc system.however, i believe mercedes benz usa and the nhtsa should mandate a recall of all vehicles equipped with sbc to be inspected yearly and replaced free of charge for the life of the vehicle.i believe it is just a matter of time before there are significant deaths or injuries due to this problem - as the affected vehicles are all about 10 years old at this point.it is a valid concern for both me as a driver of an affected vehicle, and a concern for fellow motorists and pedestrians on the road.
12/31/2014hi, customer care / technical adviser,mb usa. I am unable to contact and discuss with any customer care or technical care adviser today.mercedes benz,e-500, 2005, v8, 4 door sedanyesterday,12/30/2014 between 9:30 to 10:30 am, we both (me and my wife, [xxx]) were in the car luckily we had taken an exit from the highway 404 north in york region, ontario, canada when without any warning the brake failure sign showed up with red warning light.i couldn't control the car since brake were totally ineffective and failed.it was a horrifying experience which has left us indignant, i am not comfortable driving my car now even repaired by mb, ontario, canada, now my car is in mb newmarket location on mullock street, ontario, canada.they told me that the whole brake module is bad and you have to replace before driving and the cost is almost 3000/=canadian dollars.i am lodging this complaint against mb usa now in regards to safety issue, god saved us but we are still in shocked and mentally upset and scared driving mb cars for now.i also have gl 450, 2008 , i don't know what to do.please call me and discuss this important safety issue with asap.i am also filling a civil law suite against mb usa in regards to this important safety issue, which left us completely shocked, mentally upset and an emotional stress.thanks note: i faxed this letter to my state farm insurance company today 12/31/2014 and i am requesting my state farm insurance, morgantown, wv's lawyers to lodge this incident with nhtsaand also civil law suit against mb usa in regards to safety issue. The contact owns a 2005 mercedes-benz e500. The contact stated that a warning message to take the vehicle to a repair shop illuminated concerning the brakes. The vehicle had been previously serviced several times for various brake failures, but there had not been a permanent remedy. The dealer (mercedes-benz of valencia, 23355 valencia blvd, santa clarita, ca 91355, 661- 753-5555) and the manufacturer indicated that there was an extended warranty for the sensotronic brake control (sbc), but did not specify if they would provide a solution covered by the extended warranty. The dealer indicated that there was a malfunction with the sbc unit and the pump, which both needed to be replaced. The manufacturer indicated that there was no recall on the vehicle and they refused to cover the vehicle with an extended warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
I took my car in on july 14, 2014 after receiving a brake repair alert on my dashboard 1 day earlier. The dealer, jack ingram mercedes, ran a diagnostic & reported the brake pressure reservoir needed replacing. I got the estimate, picked the car up & took it to another shop for a second opinion. July 16, 2014 i returned to jack ingram mercedes & requested another diagnostic. The repairman told us the brake pressure reservoir needed replacing & he flushed the brake fluid. We agreed to these repairs which cost $1767. The day we were expecting to pick up the car, 2 weeks later, the repairman called stating the brake pump failed & it would now cost an additional $2000 because the car was driven from the lot on july 14, at which time the brake pump was still good, therefore they would not honor the 10 year unlimited mileage warranty on the sbc pump. The service manager changed the story several times in an effort to make this my fault, however the car is & has remained in their possession since the 2nd diagnostic was run on july 16 at which time we were told only the brake pressure reservoir had failed. She stated they replaced the reservoir only to find that they had to replace it with a 2nd new reservoir because the 1st was apparently faulty & that's when they discovered the pump was bad.i don't understand how this is my fault. The pump went bad while in their possession after they replaced the reservoir 2 times. She also refused to give us a printout of the diagnostic report, probably because the report would show the date they found the pump failed proving it was in their possession. I do, however, have a copy of the diagnostic from july 14 & july 16 on which neither shows a sbc pump unit failure.i am ashamed because there are at least 4 people that i know who have bought a mercedes because of my recommendation. I only hope they don't have the same problem.
The mercedes model e class from 2003-2008 have a defective sbc unit which control the brakes on the car, this unit is prone to fail at anytime time without warning, i have researched this and it has happened to thousands of people, i will be shocked if this hasn't caused a fatality, mercedes is aware of this problem and they issued a 10 year warranty to fix this, but if the unit fails after the 10 years they will charge you over $2500 to repair something that they manufactured defective, which is insane. This is a repair that should be covered for the life of the vehicle, i guess to them, a life is only important for 10 years. Something should be done to correct this before lives are lost (or more lives are lost) because of this ludicrous error on the part of mercedes.
Driver applied brakes going downhill in preparation to stop at an intersection. Red brake light appeared on dash and brake pedal went completely to the floor without slowing down. Driver veered off road to avoid accident and fully applied parking brake. Car was parked and turned off. When car was turned back on again, red light in dash was gone, no warnings existed, and brakes worked perfectly. Was taken to a shop and no problem was found.same situation occurred again november 2013 with 115,000 miles (approximately). Slowly drove vehicle to repair shop. Reputable mercedes specialty mechanic found codes that said sbc had issues, but codes were cleared in order to do other diagnostics. Since mechanic was not a dealer, he suggested car be taken to dealer for "extended warranty repair" since this known issue was never established as a recall.skyland automotive in asheville, nc stated nothing was wrong with the car and would not provide documentation stating brake are ok, but did charge $89 to look for codes which did not exists. We asked to be contacted by a mercedes rep to review our case, but were denied and told this would not be a problem if we had maintenance done at skyland. At this time, the brakes are working again as they have done before. If the brakes go out again and the car and occupants are not damaged, the theory is there will be a fault code such that the dealer knows what to replace. The extended warranty is set to expire in 3 months. After that time, the cost to repair will be approximately $1800. Loss of brakes at random, in my opinion, deserves to be repaired before someone gets killed. Dealership was clearly informed that the backup hydraulic brake system did not work in either of these cases and to stop the car required the use of the parking brake!
While driving on interstate brake failure sing come with red light totake to dealer.try to stop the car but, not braking. Luckily no incedent. It had happened several times and it has only 122,000 miles. It can take my life away. It obviously the company's defect.spend enough money after maintanance. Dealers are day time robbers.company should replace the part without cost to loyal customers.there are other luxury vehicles available with compatative price.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the service brakes warning lights illuminated. The contact then stated that when the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to respond.the failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the braking system pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 114,000.
Upon exiting a highway, a red brake failure warning and beeping noise appeared.all braking capability was absent, so i was able to safely roll to a stop.this happened twice (odometer during these incidences exceeding 120,000) and i now have a white message appearing when i start the vehicle which notes "brakes - visit workshop".the times that the brakes seized up on me i was always able to turn the car off and start up again with no message ever to appear for months at a time, which made me think it was some sort of computer error message.i had the brakes checked and the mechanic could not see anything wrong with them, so i was always sent on my way with no repair work done.i have reached my limit with this vehicle.i do not feel safe and it is unfortunate i had to experience such trauma twice.thankfully i was able to not crash into anyone and had convenient parking lots to roll into.please investigate this matter.it has happened to many people.

Mercedes benz placed faulty and defective braking systems including a defective sbc hydraulic unit on all of their mercedes benz e500 model vehicles.mercedes is aware of this faulty and defective party that could cause serious bodily injury to occupants at the time of failure. Mercedes benz failed to issue a recall for this faulty brake system and instead extended the brake system warranty for 10 years. However, mercedes never notified any owners of this defective product, therefore, never actually fixed or replaced this defective part.owner had no knowledge of the defect, were not notified or contacted and received absolutely no communication from mercedes or its dealerships regarding this defect.you only learn of the defect once it fails! upon failure, mercedes is now refusing to take responsibility for this defective product of which they, their company, dealerships and franchises, and certified repair shops have admitted to have knowingly sold cars with this defect and have all failed to provide communications and/or disclosures of any kind to its customers.i have personally contacted mercedes about this defect and am looking to pursuing legal and civil action against them for circumventing the federal safety recall laws to the detriment of its consumers and the general public.mercedes is in violation of federal law and criminal and civil penalties should ensue.myself and other similarly situated consumers should be made whole and mercedes should take care of all expenses incurred for this repair. My vehicle failed while driving on a business interstate highway-highway 75 south in atlanta, ga. The vehicle was in motion and began to abruptly come to a stop with warning lights flashing and car disabled itself.once disabled in the road, the gears would not move and car could not be put back into motion.the consumer declined the "goodwill" offer stating it does not exhibit goodwill.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 mph, the brakes failed and the abs warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000. The vin was unavailable.
When driving on interstate, in wet conditions at speeds of 65mph+ ,the esp&abs warning lights came on and car became very difficult to steer and stop. Was able to move off interstate and had car towed to mercedes-benz dealership. Was told the abs brake module esp control had to be replaced $1,100.00. Since having that done the car is still at dealership because now the sbc module needs replaced, which is another $1,600.00.
The sbc pump failed causing me to lose braking power while driving causing mecoming close to having a rear end collision on the interstate
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. While driving at an unknown speed, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle and the brake indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The dealer stated that the sbc was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000.
This vehicle is equipped with sensotronic brake control that has a service threshold. When this threshold is reached the brake system defaults to non power assisted hydraulic mode to the front wheels only. This occurs without any prior warning and results in increased stopping distance.at the very least, mercedes should issue a mandatory recall to interrogate these vehicles with star das to determine how close to the service threshold the sbc unit is and replace them for free. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed.we are too scared to drive the vehicle because we don't know when the brakes will go into failure mode.mercedes extended the warranty period for 10yrs which has expired.even under that warranty period mercedes only replaced sbc units that had failed.the main issue is when the sbc unit fails you have no brakes; and replacing the sbc does not solve this because the sbc will eventually fail again in the future.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes-benz e500. While driving at an unknown speed, the brakes lost power and did not stop the vehicle. In addition, the 'stop driving the vehicle' warning indicator illuminated. The contact used the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to mercedes-benz of encino (888-280-0902, located at 16721 ventura blvd, encino, ca 91436). The technician was unable to diagnose the failure, but assured the contact that the vehicle would be repaired. The failure recurred a couple of times and the vehicle was taken to keyes european mercedes-benz (818-574-5053, located at 5400 van nuys blvd, sherman oaks, ca 91401) where a diagnostic test was recommended. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that he would be called back. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin and failure mileage were not provided.
The brakes failed when pressure was applied to brake pedal, there was only 20% of brake power.
There was an extended warranty on the sbc unit, which expired december 5, 2014. The message in my car appeared on or about december 17, 2014 of the failure of the sbc unit thereafter which i contacted the pompano florida mercedes benz dealership regarding the issue. Although i was advised that the warranty expired december 5, 2014, i was concerned about the safety of the vehicle and therefore took my car in to the dealership saturday, december 20, 2014. At that time, the service manager advised me that the part was out of warranty and that i would be responsible to replace the unit. I had to bring up the warranty to the dealership, this information was not volunteered to me. I was advised that it was unsafe to drive the car as the unit controlling the brake system was broken and there was no control over the brakes, which could fail at any moment. I asked [xxx] (the service manager) to explain to me how mercedes benz would extend the warranty on this particular part that controls the brakes that was clearly a safety issue and no notification was provided regarding this? the response i received from him and mercedes benz usa was that this was not a safety issue, just a warranty extension on the part. You can see how ridiculous this sounds to any human being. I have owned this vehicle for 5 years now and the previous owners were my parents who bought it new from the annapolis, maryland mercedes benz dealership.neither one of us ever received any notice regarding this extended warranty. I have also taken my car multiple times to the pompano florida mercedes benz dealership and this issue was never brought to my attention.this is clearly a safety issue and they need to take responsibility. I ended up paying $1060 after fighting with them on paying the full price. Mercedes benz needs to take care of this before people die.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Takata recall.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes-benz e500. While driving 75 mph, the advisory brake malfunction warning indicator illuminated. The contact was able to coast to the shoulder lane. When the vehicle was turned off and restarted, it operated normally. The vehicle was taken to an unknown dealer where the contact was advised that they were aware of the failure. The dealer stated that diagnostic testing could only be performed while the failure occurred. The contact was also informed that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 04v296000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer stated that the warranty repair for the sensotronic brake control failure had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 101,386.
Brake failure. Total brake failure while driving down the highway. No warning light except after failure! according to recall campaign #2005110001" brake power may be reduced". Brake power wasn't reduced, there was zero- had to coast to a stop on the side of the road. Could've been catastrophic. Per safety campaign records, my vehicle is marked as "completed" . I am the 2nd owner of the car and it's not been completed. Contact mb dealership who offered to fix this recalled item for me at a 10% discount. Contacted mb customer service and i cannot get a resolution.
Have vehicle for 4 months and was unaware of mercedez benz extended 10 year warranty, before this incident.while driving approximately 30 miles per hour the instrument cluster flashed red with "decreased braking power, stop driving and visit workshop". Unfortunately, i was travelling at mid day in traffic and could not stop the car, without pressing the brake with both feet to the floor, and i still managed to blow through 2 red lights, but not kill anybody.(it took over 3 blocks to stop.) this is obviously a recall issue, as 750 tsb's have been filed against this model. If owners choose not repair this malfunction(5000 cost)...people will die,,,kids will die. Brake systems such as these have been eliminated by car makers because of the dangers. Ntsb, it is your responsibility to realize that these "dangerous" vehicles are on the road and demand mb extends the warranty until all "dangerous" cars are on the road and need repairs. These vehicles are no different than a loaded gun..just waiting to kill someone. I hope to hear some action quickly...yours truly, a guy driving a loaded weapon.
I was exiting the freeway, pressing on the brakes. The car pulled very aggressively to the left, i got a warning light on the instrument panel flashing red that said there was a brakes issue. I pulled over to the side of the road, turned the car off and back on and was able to drive it normally with no error displaying on the instrument panel. I took it to the dealer for service, they said without a fault code in the system, there was nothing they could do about it and that i would have to wait for it to fully fail before they could address it. I'm scared of this car now, i don't dare drive it. Something needs to be done about this, any other system fine, but brakes? this should be a no brainer. Nhtsa, please help us.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. While driving any speed, the brakes would hesitate to respond and the visit workshop brake warning light illuminated. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the sbe needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in thenhtsa campaign number: 05v133000 (service brakes; hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 123,000.
Mercedes e500 2005 126,000 mileswhile travelling 40mph on city streets the car flashed a red warning message indicating "reduced braking power depress brake prdal fully". This is in relation to the sbc braking system that in the event of a failure resorts to a emergency hydraulic emergency brake back up that mercedes claims allows for adequate braking stopping distance. I would like to stress that the aforementioned statement is not true as i had to swerve on to a sidewalk to avoid an accident. Depressing the brake pedal fully is not suffice and the system loses 90% braking power with only the front axel brakes as operable. The condition and circumstances described herein are not in compliance with the fmcsa in regards to brakes being operable at all times and emergency braking situations. The red warning message cleared upon the next time the engine was engaged which is also of note. Mercedes should be advised to consider recalling cars equipped with sbc as it is a clear safety hazard.
When attempting to exit the highway, the sensotronic brake control system (sbc) failed and there were no noticeable brakes. The pedal went all the way to the floor with no resistance. Manufacturer claims that if you apply additional pressure during a failure, there will be some braking power available. In the situation though, when the pedal goes to the floor, human instinct is to immediately find an alternative way to stop the car. I was able to stop by downshifting the transmission and applying the emergency brake. Less experienced drivers may not be so lucky. Mercedes benz usa is aware of the potential for all sbc electric pumps to fail at any time causing this same situation for anyone. They are unwilling to cover the defective part because i am one year beyond the 'extended warranty.' they claim that as with any car parts, the sbc system can be expected to fail at some point. Anything beyond 10 years and they do not take responsibility for. Normally i would agree with that sentiment, but not when it concerns the primary electric system of electric brakes to fail. There should at least be a sufficient and noticeable hydraulic back up if this part is engineered to fail.mercedes has recently extended all fuel tank related issues and components to 15 year coverage, and this would at least be a step in the right direction for the sbc system. However, i believe mercedes benz usa and the nhtsa should mandate a recall of all vehicles equipped with sbc to be inspected yearly and replaced free of charge for the life of the vehicle. I believe it is just a matter of time before there are significant deaths or injuries due to this problem - as the affected vehicles are all about 10 years old at this point. It is a valid concern for both me as a driver of an affected vehicle, and a concern for fellow motorists and pedestrians on the road.
The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. The contact stated that all the lights on the instrument panel illuminated and the message board displayed reduce braking power. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic brake pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact owns a 2005 mercedes benz e500. While driving approximately 15 mph when the contact attempted to slow down; the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. The brake light illuminated after the failure occurred. He was able to shift into neutral gear in order to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who performed a diagnostic test that located the failure to the brake hydraulic system. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer replaced the service brake system hydraulic unit. Nhtsa campaign id number 05v133000, service brakes hydraulic was performed in 2006; yet,the repair did not correct the failure. The failure mileage was 68,056 and the current mileage was 69,000.
After picking up the kids from the neighborhood school anddriving home it happened, as i approached a stop sign and depressed the brake pedal it went all the way to the floor with no resistance and no stopping power, red lights came on the the dash telling me i had a brake failure and braking power is reduced!. What a scary moment! i was able to let the car roll to a stop safely. After turning the car off and then on again all braking power was restored and was once again functional.took the car into a mercedes benz dealer the next day and was told the entire brake operating unit needs to be replaced at a cost of $2,200.00.i find this very hard to accept that the brake system on a properly maintained vehicle can suddenly fail without warning and resets itself after a restart.the dealer offered no other explanation, but things happen.

Suffocating oil smell inside and outside automobile. Pregnant wife became nauseous and had to open all windows and sunroof.passenger front suspension has liquid splattering on underneath of engine hood. Suspension makes extreme loud knocking sound when going up hill or over a bump.
Rear end goes down when the car in parked. "stop" message (red)appears on dashboard. Do not drive car and take to mechanic immediately. When i start car after 15 to 20 min message goes away and car again comes to normal position. Its happening almost everyday from last few days. In forum i read it is common issue with e series of 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006. My car only has 120k miles. Learned that there is leak in air springs and it is very expensive to repair. I had same issue 6 years back on front passenger side when i was driving. Front passenger side sat down completely and rim started hitting tire. I was driving on highway at 65k/hrs. I had to call mercedes and they asked me not to drive and they towed the car to dealership. It took 2 days to get car fixed and cost me $2000.
Mercedes benz 2005 e500 front airmatic strut failure. While driving the car, the passenger front end suddenly drop and car veer to right side. Fortunately, there wasn't any car on the right side and i avoid the crash. I stop the car on the side of road and found out the front tire is all the way down and rear driver side is way up. Exact same failure on front left side occurred around 35,000 miles.
Fuel appears to be leaking inside the passenger compartment as there is an extremely strong smell of fuel.car is not running normally and you can even smell fuel on the outside.car will not accelerate properly.concern of such strong smell of fuel leaking inside car is risk of fire and personal injury.
