I have an airbag code showing passenger side sensor or wiring harness failure. Vehicle is out of warranty, mercedes states repair cost is my problem.checking mercedes forums reveals hundreds of complaints of similar and exact problems.srs is a vital system, and cannot fail.design and support from the manufacturer should reflect their commitment to safety, not just pass the buck.one or a dozen instances may be quality control issue, but hundreds or even thousands is a flaw that should be investigated.from mbworld.comhttps://www.google.com/search?q=srs+mercedes+light&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=srs+mercedes+light+site:mbworld.orgfrom benzworld.orghttps://www.google.com/search?q=srs+mercedes+light&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=srs+mercedes+light+site:www.benzworld.orghundreds of mercedes benz owners have a sensor or wiring problem that could lead to injury or death.i believe such a widespread issue should be repaired at the cost of the manufacturer, not the owners or victims.
Informed by a mercedes benz dealer that my srs is not functioning correct. And that the air bags could deploy upon minor/light impact. Srs light is displayed!!!
At low speed , coming out of a grocery store parking lot, car went into sudden unintended acceleration without any warning. Fully pressing on the brake failed to slow or stop the car. With the brake not working and the car accelerating very fast the car became out of control until it crashed with a large rock /boulder when it stopped. There was extensive damage the the whole front half of the car. The car had to be towed in.i sustained a significant bruises of my breast bone and adjoining ribs. I am still in pain.this same exact malfunction with this same car as noted above occurred in 2013. I paid extra for mb to have an engineer examine the car but i was told nothing was wrong. On both occasions the air bags did not deploy.

Seat heater in driver's seat back overheated, resulting in a burn through the seat and caught the driver's clothing on fire.
Driver's heated seat burning?!?i've owned this vehicle since late may of '18. On tues. 11/06/18 after work, i started the car and began driving home. Turned on the heat and the driver's heated seat (it's 30 degrees and snowing here in mn). I take-off and not a minute later i smell what seems to be an electrical fire/smoke. There was likely even a whiff of smoke present. Thankfully i immediately figured it was unfortunately coming from my car and that the heated seat was likely the culprit. Turned it off, pulled over and noticed the pics attached (burned hole in lower right of seat if looking at it head-on). There was the mb-tex crack there prior.now, i won't (unfortunately) be using my heated seat anytime soon, but my question is, what now? the wife uses her side all the time, never noticed any issues.pretty scary/surprising and disappointing all at once.
Upon exiting my vehicke., i noticed a strong burning smell but could not pinpoint it. Over the next couple of days the smell persisted and my dashboard warning system alerted me that my tail lights were not working. The messages were alternating between rear left tail lights, rear right brake and tail lights, the turn signals, etc. It was just changing all the time. I took it in to the mercedes dealer and they said i needed an entire tail light assembly and then told me they didn't know. As if now i have another appointment for 7 jan 2920.
Engine stalls while driving. The car loses power brakes and power steering. No check engine alert comes on and the lights remain on. The car starts again once i pulled over and started the ignition again. This has happened about 6 times in 18 months and is very dangerous. The last time i was coasting downhill around 40 miles an hour and, when the engine stalled, the check tire pressure on all 4 tires came on. When i restarted the car the check tire pressure lights did not appear.
While driving the car tonight the seat started smoking and there is a burn hole on the driver seat 1/2 dollar in size. The car was in motion, seat heater in use.
The fuel gauge has become inconsistent during the past few months. The fuel levels run up and down and never go below the half way mark. Was driving on the freeway yesterday and the car completely ran out of gas. No warning or indication of low gas levels. Had actually show 231 miles remaining. I was able to pull over and get assistance. However, could have been very dangerous had it not been the day after christmas and no one on the road.

The contact owns a 2008 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that upon refueling the vehicle, the contact would smell a strong gasoline odor. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shutoff without warning. The contact initially had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic where they replaced that crankshaft sensor. Despite the repair, the failure persisted. After the second failure, the contact called the manufacturer who informed him that the vehicle was under warranty for a defective fuel pump. The manufacturer then had the vehicle towed to mercedes-benz of burlington (80 cambridge st, burlington, ma 01803) where they informed him that the had a defective fuel tank and fuel pump that both needed to be replaced under warranty. The contact was then informed that since his vehicle was involved in an accident, the vehicle no longer qualified under warranty and was informed that the had to pay for the repair of the vehicle. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to nhtsa campaign number: 08v303000 (electrical system). The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the dealer possession. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000. ## vin passed ## 2008 mercedes benz e350 ##
Turned on drivers seat warmer, smelled smoke and opened windows thinking the odor was from outside of the car. Turned the seat heater off and later found a quarter size hole burned in the left side of the drivers seat.my shirt and pants also had holes burned in them.fortunately i turned the heater off before i was burned or a fire started. Mercedes-benz dealer is going to repair the damage to the seat of my 2008 e-350.

The transmission occasionally jerks when shifting from first to second gear, then it won't shift at all.the only way it fixes is if you pull over, turn the car off and restart.it continues to do this periodically.now it won't shift at all so i had to get off the highway to drive slow otherwise a burning sell and smoke comes from the engine.happened to many others if you look online.obvious flaw with the transmissions.should be a recall- very expensive for consumer to fix.

I was parking in la fitness gym. In la habra on 3/11/14 at 1 p.m, a clear day, in a space in the middle parking space. I was 90% parked in the parking space & had my foot on the brakes while finishing my parking. All of sudden the engine roared & car speed up & hit the suv parked in front of me. The suv moved 3-5 feet & touched the car parked next to it on its driver side.this has happened 2nd time. In sep. 2013 this car accelerated by itself while i was parking behind a car by a residential area by a street curb. Please refer to my odi # 10547151 for my previous reporting. The dealer has not been acknowledging any of my emails in this regard. My car's damaged is being repaired by house of imports in buena park, a mercedes dealer. Please advise how can i recover my out of pocket loss & have the manufacturer fix this very risky defect. After filling up gas tank, strong odor of gasoline detected in the real wheel well on the passenger side. After driving for 50 or so miles, odor is gone. Took car to mercedes dealership and was told the fuel sending unit needed replaced and the repairs would be covered under cpo warranty.
There is the smell of gas inside of the vehicle when driving, as well as outside which is particularly noticeable when garaged.
I own a 2008 mercedes e350 4matic.after a trip, with the car sitting at the airport for a week in warm weather, i entered the car and noticed a strong gasoline odor.i vented the car and drove home.the odor remained.subsequently i had the car put on a lift and there was a stain coming down around the sides of the gas tank.i also removed the rear seat and noticed that the seat foam was saturated with a gasoline smell directly above the access panel for what i believe is the fuel pump assembly.i understand from local mechanics that this may be a frequent occurrence with mb e series cars.this leads to a very dangerous situation in terms of potential fire/explosion as well as excessive evaporative emissions.mb usa stated that they do not have an active recall campaign for this problem.

Gas tank fuel sending unit failure causing inaccurate readings.one incident my wife was driving on the freeway in the fast lane and gas gauge indicated 1/2 tank of fuel remaining and car stalled because of no fuel causing a very unsafe situation due to no area to pull over safely.please reference nhtsa action number: pe12001.
At the beginning it was a slight smell of gas upon filling up. Thought on occasion it might have topped off to full. Smell of gas dissipated after a couple of days. Smell has now grown to the obnoxious stage and does not dissipate until tank shows roughly 3/4 full. Noted that many other mb owners have registered the same complaint. Please add my name to the list. Based on others experience requesting the dealer to deal with it would have little or no effect. Collectively perhaps you can start some action against them to take action and fix this potentially life threatening problem. A repair cost is suggested to be over $1,000.00 and frankly the car can not be sold with this existing problem, the liability would be catastrophic!
There is a very strong smell of gasoline after refueling. The problem has gotten progressively worse over the last few months. It is now impossible to stay in the garage when the car is parked there - unable to breathe due to the gas fumes. It only happens right after refueling, or when the tank is nearly full.

Every time i fill my 2008 mercedes e350 up with gas, there is a very strong gas odor coming from the car.this strong gas smell emits from the car until i drive about 100 miles (reducing gas levels in the tank). I park my car in my attached garage at night.when i wake up, my garage and parts of my house smell like a very strong gas odor.
After filling up the gas from gas station, we see gas leak/gas dripping under the car (underneath the rear seat). We can see gas dripping and the smell of the gas inside the car as well as outside the car. When i looked at the internet, there has been lot of incidents reported by plenty of customers and i don't know why mercedes is taking a look at it. It can cause serious fire issues since gas is exposed to air. I hope you will take this seriously. The contact merc dealership where we got this vehicle is 17510 north fwy, houston, tx(281) 305-8970. Thanks

For approximately a year and a half, when filling my gas tank, a strong gas smell occurs in the cabin of the car and in the house garage for a few days.to try and avoid this problem i avoid filling my car completely as the smell dissipates as gas is consumed.on july 19, 2014, i filled my tank to the click and proceeded home, parking in the garage.my bedroom is above the garage.while sleeping for a few hours, i awoke with a horrible headache and the strong smell of gasoline in my room.i went to the garage and the smell of gas was overwhelming.i stated my car and moved it out of the garage to the driveway for health and safety reasons.
Went over bad bump in the road and the car now has a fuel smell from a leak. Gas fumes are apparent in the passenger compartment.
My wife and i noticed the strong smell of gasoline each time we bought gas and filled up the tank. Have mentioned this numerous times to personnel at the dealership and every person just expressed puzzlement over the problem and offered to take a look at the car and see what the cause might be.i finally scheduled an appointment about a year later to correct this issue or at least fine the cause because the odor was getting stronger....especially because the car is parked in the garage. The dealership called me and said it would cost about $2000 to repair the seals but they would split the cost with me.they said if i did not repair the seals the car was still safe to drive...we just could not fill up the tank.i went ahead with the repairs but searched the internet and found numerous other complaints on the problem and the ongoing class action lawsuit in the northern district of georgia and the june 16, 2013 request by nhtsa for information due to 528 similar complaints....please add this complaint to the previous 528.i think someone at mercedes should have been aware of the ongoing question of tank leakage....the car is not safe to drive with a leaking tank.
Very strong raw gasoline smell coming from the drivers rearafter driving.i checked around car i founded leak.so i can not believe it!
Vehicle diagnosed with a leaking fuel tank.
2008 mercedes benz e-350.consumer writes in regards to vehicle gas leak concerns.the consumer stated for the past few months, he noticed a very strong gas odor emanating from both the inside and outside of the vehicle. The smell was detected when the vehicle was being driven and when parked in an enclosed area after being driven.the consumer took the vehicle to the dealer, for an inspection. During the inspection, the dealer found there was indeed a gas leak in the right rear seat area.the gas leak was due to a defective fitting in the gas line from the tank to the motor.
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz e-class. The contact stated that he noticed large puddles of fuel leaking from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised him that the fuel tank was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. Starting approximately september/october 2014, my car smells like gasoline inside and outside the car when i feel up the fuel tank. When the car is parked in the garage, entire garage smelled like gasoline as well. The smell usually went away in a few days and the smell wasn't too bad in the beginning and i thought i was overreacting. However, on 12/19/14, immediately after i filled up the fuel tank, the smell was so bad and i had a terrible headache from smelling the gasoline while i drove the car. So i decided to take the car into the dealership and was later informed that there are two leaks in fuel tank and another leak in transmission connector. I was charged about $3,500 for the repair.
When i fill my tank with fuel, it smells like fuel is leaking because the odor is so strong. The odor stays very strong 2-3 days after filling up with fuel.i have a five (5) year old daughter who also rides daily in the car and this can't be good for her.according to the service department at critz mercedes benz, the leak is at the top of the tank.i know there is a recall and the warranty has been extended on fuel tanks with my model of car.however, i have contacted mercedes benz and they have told me that i have a different model of fuel tank than the recall one.evidently, this type of fuel tank is not good also.i have taken my car to critz mercedes benz in savannah, ga for service since i purchased it in 2010.mercedes benz contacted critz and they told them they would only give me a $200 discount on $4,000 worth of work.i don't think i should be held responsible for this.i am asking for the warranty on my type of fuel tank to be extended also.i'm sure there are others that are also having this same problem.
When car is filled with gas(full) , a gasoline odor consumes my garage. When we open garage all you can smell is gasoline.when the car gets less than 1/2 tank, the fuel odor subsides.usually when i take it to dealer i have 1/4 tank and smell is hard to detect. This has occurred for over 2 years but smell is getting worse /stronger it starting to give us headaches
Beginning approximately nov 2014, i started noticing a strong fuel smell in my garage.the odor seemed to be stronger when i filled the car with gas.by december 2014, the fuel smell permeated to my kitchen, through the garage because the smell was so strong.my husband advised me to park the car outside because he was fearful the car would explode with the other chemicals near and around the vehicle.i called mercedes benz (mb) headquarters on two occasions telling them about my problem.they advised me that there would be 'extended warranty' letters issued in late january or early february 2015 that would provide me with reimbursement options and that they recommended getting it fixed asap. Therefore, january 13, 2015 mercedes benz of san antonio fixed my fuel tank and i paid $3,132.03 for the repair.i later filed a complaint with the nhtsa in january.the odi# is 10669386.when i didn't receive my extended warranty letter, i decided to email mb to see if the letters had been sent.they informed me the letters were being sent. Today, march 25, 2015, i decided to call mb headquarters(again) to see what the delay was in sending my letter.mb informed me i didn't receive a warranty letter because my 2008 e350 was a partial zero emissions vehicle (pzev) and those 'labeled' vehicles were not covered under the warranty.i am distraught over this decision and feel i am being wrongly excluded from the extended warranty.my car is good for the environment and i'm being punished for it.i need assistance in any possible for reimbursement of my faulty gas tank.not sure what the emissions part plays in this?please help!!

Reference pe12001i occasionally smell gas after filling up my vehicle. Until now, i'd just figured i stepped in some fuel at the station and that the smell was coming from my shoes, but understand that there is an issue with the fuel system.
I have a 2008 mercedes e350 pzev model and the issue i came across is a major one. These models in particular have a big reputation on failing fuel pumps, and to make things worse on the pzev versions it can not be fixed unless the whole fuel tanked is swapped with a new one. The fuel pump is located inside the gas tank and its sealed just so there's no way of fixing the issue, on the other hand the non-pzev models have a replaceable pump which reduces the work and money to fix the issue. Mercedes has an applied extended factory warranty for the model w211 which covers this issue until 15years / unlimited miles for non-pzev models and 15years / 150k miles for pzev models. I see this very wrong because the pzev models are super expensive to fix and many people are over the 150k mile mark. This term should have been applied to the pzev models. I purchased this vehicle for $3,200 but to fix this problem it is over than $3,500. I am requesting mercedes to help me on this situation as these cars are well know to fail in that department.as it stands this car is unsafe to drive, it releases lots of raw gas smell and sometimes it will not start. I want mercedes to take full responsibility of this matter because this issue could have been a couple hundred dollar fix if the design after tank wasn't so bad. There are thousands of people complaining about the same issue with the pzev models and most of them are over the 150k mile limit which is not enough considering the age of the vehicles.

The smell of gas fumes from my mercedes was prevalent in my garage after refueling for a number of weeks before taking it in to mercedes benz of chandler to identify the problem.i took the car in for servicing on september 13, 2012.mercedes identified the problem as a crack in the fuel tank and verified that it was a problem with the tank and not caused by an outside influence (road debris or similar).mercedes replaced the gas tank at a cost of $2,759.10 (after discounts) as it was a potential hazard.i have not had any other problems with the gas tank since.
I smelled strong gas smell a few days ago. I took my car to mercedes arrowhead located in arizona yesterday. They informed me that the problem would be covered under a 15 year warranty (fuel tank had started leaking). Today they called me and said that the leak had saturated to my back seats and that it wasn't covered because i had taken too long to call them and that's why the back seats were saturated with gas (i didn't know that my seats were saturated with gas until i started to smell it through my vents while ac was blowing). Now, i am being asked to pay almost $500 to replace the pads and deafening material as they told me it wasn't covered by warranty even though it was caused by a defective fuel tank. At this point i'm not sure if there have been any health related issues for myself and my 2 kids who normally sit in the back of the car who has been inhaling the gas fumes for an unknown length of time.
Each time i fill up my gas tank (i do not top off), i smell gas for about 1 week in my garage.the odor has gotten so strong, i can smell the gas in my house.i started parking outside my garage until the smell disappeared.i took it to the dealer which cost me $750 to repair.it was the gas tank sealer which was leaking when i filled up my gas tank.after researching on the internet i found this to be a common problem, yet no recall notice was sent to me.i would like my $750 plus damages to my health of smelling the gas fumes in my garage and my home.not to mention the danger of the damage a spark could have done.
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that after refueling the vehicle, there was a strong odor of fuel present. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Gas vapor leaks from the car and fills the garage and house.the vapors increase with higher temperatures.
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz e350. While parked, a strong fuel odor emitted inside and outside of the vehicle. There was no fuel leakage visible on the ground. The vehicle was taken to a dealerwhere it was diagnosed that the fuel sender cracked. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 59,000.
Car was being driven on a busy city street, stopped for red light, when i went to accelerate i had to pump the pedal-to be safe i decided to turn onto street at intersection where i was stopped at light, car came to a dead stop in middle of street. This was very close to the freeway on ramp that i was going to. Another 1/2 mile and had i not decided to turn off on to the side street the car would have stopped in the middle of a freeway with probable fatalities. Car had to be towed to repair shop. Fuel pump is inside gas tank in this model. Repair was $3373.88. Mercedes benz dealer has parts in stock for a 2008 model. This is in itself is unusual and seems like they are expecting multiple fails. There are also multiple reports of same doing an online search. Should be recalled in my opinion.i have the repair receipt and all my previous records for maintenance on the car.
Lately, each time i fill the gas tank, strong smell of gas fills the garage till i use up some of the gas in the tank, driving the car. The smell seems to come from driver side rear wheel area. I noticed nhtsa started an investigation about a year ago. I don't understand why it has not been concluded yet and how all these complaints of similar nature, have not been addressed. Mbnz should be held accountable for their engineering and design. As some noted, their cars were fixed under warranty, so mbnz knows about this problem and seems to choose to ignore. This is wherenhtsa is supposed to come in and protect the consumers of these so called luxury ( expensive) cars.
I purchased this used car and parked in my garage-came out about an hour after parking and noticed a very strong raw gasoline smell coming from the drivers rear inside the compartment.i removed the back seat and the fuel tank seal is leaking.took the car to a repair shop to confirm and they agreed that the fuel pump, sending unit and tank seal are leaking fuel and are an explosion/fire hazard-need to correct this asap.they told me that this is a very common problem on this model car and that they have a lot ofpeople come in with gasoline leaking from the same place.very dangerous situation that mercedes needs to step up and repair.

Updated 10/24/17*ljthe consumer stated the vehicle was repaired. The fuel pump was replaced.
Car smells of gasoline inside and out. Causing headaches, fearing fire or explosions
There is a strong smell of fuel vapor that is noticeable both inside and outside the car, particularly when the gas tank is full. An evap test shows that there is a gasket near/on top of the gas tank under the rear passenger seat that shows signs of a fuel leak.there are no signs of a recall that i can find online and mercedes wants to charge $2100+ just for parts for a replacement fuel tank for something that i feel is hazardous to our health and should have been resolved by mercedes.
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that upon refueling the vehicle, there was a strong fuel odor emitting outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000. Ma 10/5updated 11/22/2017
Strong fuel odor after topping off. I drove the vehicle and itstarted to lose power and stalled on the road. The car was towed in the mercedes benz dealership.
I purchased the vehicle used in may of 2014 from a non-mercedes dealer. Towards the end of december of 2014, i noticed a strong odor of gas in our garage every time i filled up the tank.the odor would dissipate after the gas level went down but the strong odor returned every time i filled up the tank.i did notice moisture on the garage floor but it would evaporate by the time i drove back into the garage so i didn't think much of it.the odor was so strong that i finally took the car to my independent mercedes repair shop to have it checked out.it turns out that there is a defective seal on the gas tank which requires the entire tank to be replaced to the tune of $2200 just for the gas tank-no labor included yet. Fortunately, i purchased an extended warranty but the company is sending out an inspector to my mechanic to verify that a new tank needs to be replaced in a 2008 mercedes.in other words, they want to dispute the repair. Based on myresearch, multiple lawsuits have been filed in various states on this exact issue. This appears to bea common problem with the year and model which should result in a recall against mercedes benz to cover this defective gas tank/seal. Thank you.
The fuel tank leaks strong gasoline vapor into the passenger compartment and outside the vehicle creating a fire hazard and imperils the driver's ability to properly breathe. The vapors are strongest everytime the fuel tank is filled over half way. Current repairs are going to cost $3000. The mechanic says the root cause is the california emissions required components that are nonstandard. There are no pictures as the leaky fuel tank is concealed under the back seat, below where my children sit.
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz e350. When the contact refueled the vehicle and parked it inside the garage, a fuel odor was present. The failure occurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the fuel pump and sensor failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 65,000.
This is about 5 years i am smelling gas fuel inside the car.but on 05/24/2019 driving on the street ,suddenly car stopped middle of street, after towing the car to mechanic shop ,we find out fuel pump problem and unable to change the pump we need to buy fuel tank and fuel pump, which is very expensive.this should be on recall.because too many people complaing (according to your site)..car is 115000 mile.warranty are 150000 or 15 years...just imagine if i was driving on freeway with my wife...thanks in advance
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz e-350. The contact stated that after refueling,a strong odor of fuel was present on the rear left side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. When i fill the gas tank and park the car in the garage i get a heavy smell of gas around the rear of the car. No smell from inside. I see no leaking onto the ground.
When filling up the gas tank to full, a distinct gasoline smell is present.when the car is driven and the gasoline indicator is less than full, the distinct smell goes away.
Very strong odor of gasoline in cabin after filling tank.mb refuses to extend warranty per agreement with nhtsa to repair based on vin # of vehicle.
I purchased a 2008 e350 4matic sport in november of 2015 and i have been noticing when i buy gas there is a very strong smell of gas within the vehicle for many miles after the purchase. I thought it was just my imagination until a friend was riding with me on a trip to maryland and noticed it too. This keeps happening and i am not sure way.
Leaking gas tank pvez, mercedes will not replace it, was under recall.
Every time i fill up the fuel tank, the outside of the car smells of gas till the fuel comes down to about three quarter tank.the gas odor is especially perceptible in the morning when i walk into the garage.as a precaution i started parking the car outside the house for a few days after i fill the tank.
Fuel has been pooling on the top of the fuel pump near sending, for months i would smell gas after filling up or even at about 3/4 of a tank. Assuming i had put in too much; inside fuel filler cover it warns not to top off tank. Something i didn't see until after the smell of fumes. Under mb's pzev warranty it states that if this is a part that could become defective and has given owners 15 years/150,000 whichever comes first to file a warranty claim and have it repaired or replaced at no cost to the owner. My vehicle has been out commission for almost 2 months because they simply believe that i have not maintain service of my vehicle, according to a comment made by one of their customer service representatives ( calls are recorded, debbie was the agent's name and call was made approximately around 10:15 am on tuesday 2/19/2019. The diagnostic evaluation performed at park place motors co. In arlington tx, determined that it was my fuel pump and not the sending unit, stated in their warranty all fuel system components are included provided the vehicle is within the warranty coverage period. My vehicle has 142,164 miles and is just shy of 11 years old. After viewing and receiving reports of other owners who have had similar issues have their vehicles fixed, again i believe this to be discriminatory on the part of the dealership and mbusa and ask that contact be made to either or both to clarify why my vehicle does not fall within the guidelines of their written warranty coverage.
Fuel pump leaking fuel causing vapors in car.caused migraine headaches.
After i filled the gasoline tank i noticed a strong gasoline smell inside the cabin. I got a bad headache from the fumes before i got home. I did not smell any gas in the trunk, engine compartment or in the fuel filler door. I ventilated the cabin and tried to determine where the smell was coming from. It seemed to be under the drivers seat or back seat.even after sitting all night and having all the windows open all day it still wreaks of gasoline inside.the smell has not left the cabin and i am afraid to drive the car.
Safety and health issue with fuel leaking from gas tanks and two fuel pumps in 2008 mercedes e350.there is terrible smell in the car that started around august 8, 2014 and has gotten worse.you cannot drive the car because of this smell.we find out from mercedes dealer that this is from corroded seals around gas tank and the two fuel pumps that pump fuel from the gas tank.gasoline has leaked out and has saturated insulation materials inside the passenger compartment of the car.apparently gas tank is located inside the passenger compartment under the rear seat.they are wanting to charge us $2,500 to fix and repair the damage - which is due to their faulty seals around the gas tank and fuel pumps - replace the fuel pumps, clean up all the spilled fuel, replace the insulation material and what ever else has been damaged.this should be a recall issue.i see story on internet where this has been reported 533 times as of march 19, 2013.here is link to article http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/driveon/2013/03/19/mercedes-benz-e-class-nhtsa-fuel-leaks-odor/1999263/ how many times does this have to be reported to constitute mercedes doing a recall and addressing this issue at their cost instead of mine?what if someone smokes in the car?will this explode?you cannot stand the smell as it makes you sick to set in the car.to me that is both a safety issue and a health issue and should be addressed by mercedes.they are saying that the car is old - but 6 years for a mercedes i would not consider old.it should last 15+ in my opinion.i drive this car long distances, many times over 10+ hours in a day.i cannot be in the car with this smell, it will make me sick after less than 1 hour.i drove it for 20 minutes a few days ago and if felt sick the rest of the day....
Fuel sending unit leaks when gas tank is filled...gasoline leaks onto top of sending unit allowing a strong smell of gasoline around car and in garage...after burning to about 3/4's of a tank smell dissipates..if lifting backseat and removing 6 screws and coverplatefuel can be seen pooled on top of sending unit..extended warranty (15 years ) on other mercedes vehicles with same year groups experiencing the same symptoms/problems but not our particular model...don't understand why...this is a defective design...been driving 40+ yearsdo a lot of work on own vehicles and have only seen this problem 1 other timeon our 2006 chrysler pacifica ( both tanks) same type of setup...this was when they were doing joint development with daimler...same faultydesign....dangerous!!!!!
The crankshaft sensorfailed due to separation of bond wires from the lead frame in the sensor. This results in an interruption in the electrical connection in the chip housing of the sensor. The electrical fuel pump is not receiving a crash signal that is required for the fuel pump to disconnect and prevent future fuel delivery as designed.* my vehicle is experiencing the same issue as the recalled 2008 e350 models. The car will not turn over or start. There's a faint gas smell coming from the back seat. The fuel pump is not sending a signal to the my vehicle is currently with an authorized mb servicer, however, mbusa dos not want to pay for the recall issues.
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that there was an odor of fuel constantly in the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure occurred when the vehicle was refueled. Approximately3 months ago i noticed a strong smell of gas coming from the left rear wheel well, every time i filled up the fuel tank on my 2008 mbenz e 350. I park the car in my garage and the smell gets very strong overnight. The smell of gas subsides when the tank is about 3/4 full. I have done some research on line and seems like this is a common and serious problem that mercedes benzrefuses to acknowledge and repair free of charge to the consumer.i am specially concerned because my home water heater is in the garage were i keep my car overnite.
Drove the car 20 minutes started to notice smell out of the back seat gasoline 5 min later it stalled 2 streets from my house. . tryed starting the cranking over but no start. The next day shop called told me that both of the fuel pumps in the gas tank are bad. 1.500.00 dollar repair. Is that safe for fuel pumps do do that
Fuel pump and sending unit is cracked causing fuel vapor to enter cabin.also driver seat heater is over heating causing considerable discomfort and cannot be used. When i started to research these issues i found numerous other complaints for the same problems had been previously reported but i have not received a recall notice.
Fuel tank: strong odor of fuel after filling up tank from rear of car, fuel tank area. Google suggests possible manufacture's recall. With heat emitting from exhaust area, could potentially lead to fire... I'm afraid for my wife and kids's safety. Is there currently an active recall? if so, tsb # please. If not, please duly note issues mentioned. Thank you. Nathan.
When i fill the vehicle up with gas there is a strong smell as if it is leaking even though no gas is leaking out to the naked eye. Recently the smell is now invading the cabin space of the vehicle.
The fuel sending unit is leaking gas when i fill the car up.
When you fill up the gas tank, there is a very strong fuel odor in and outside of the vehicle to the point where the vehicle cannot be parked inside a garage and when driven the windows need to be rolled down.on 9/4/14, mb issued a warranty extension for this very problem, however, mb is now saying that my vehicle is a pzev model car which is exempt from the 9/4/14 warranty extension.this makes absolutely no sense as it is the same issue that many mb owners have complained about and there is no difference between a pzev model to a non pzev model (only in the sense of the catalytic converter which is not in issue).the cost is over $3,000 to fix what is really a defective and unsafe product.the part which is leaking fuel is a "left side fuel level sender assembly".this is an integral part of the gas tank.based upon the 9/4/14 extended warranty letter from mb, the nhtsa was satisfied that the extended warranty would fix this problem.but what mb was able to do was to limit the applicability of the 9/4/14 extended warranty to only non-pzsev vehicles which i am sure eliminated tens of thousands of vehicles from the extended warranty.moreover, there is no indication that the vehicle is a psev vehicle (other than what mb has internally).the 9/4/14 extended warranty should apply to all e350 vehicles model year 2003-2009.there is absolutely no reason to exclude a vehicle because it is allegedly a pzev vehicle.it is the same fuel leak/odor issue.dealership will not fix under warranty and the corporate office has denied warranty coverage.please reopen your investigation and get to the bottom of this clearly defective and dangerous situation. Clearly mb recognized this as a problem and that is why they issued the 9/4/14 warranty extension but then slipped in the exclusion for pzev vehicles.there is no reason to treat a pzev vehicle any differently.
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes-benz e350. Upon re-fueling the vehicle, the contact noticed a strong odor of fuel inside and outside the vehicle. The dealer and the manufacturer indicated that the vehicle was excluded from a manufacturer recall. The contact was informed that the fuel tank gasket and the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was not available.
Filled my tank, parked in my garage, gas smell was all over garage and all over inside the car.the car was leaking gas from under the back seat, in the sending unit. This is really dangerous and shameful of mercedes benz to have this defect, which i later found out from a lot of posting online.
Smell heavy gas smell inside of the vehicle but not in the engine bay. Stronger smell in the back seat.afraid car my catch fire while driving. Having to drive with windows down so i don't get droggy.
The gas gauge randomly shows incorrect fuel level remaining. This makes it difficult to know how much gas and distance/miles remain before a refill is needed. After a full refill the gauge seems to accurately show a full tank. Randomly, when starting the car, the gauge sometimes shows incorrect fuel levels at empty or much less than actual. This sometimes corrected via restarting car. Sometimes restarting does not correct the gauge.
Smell of fuel after filling up car, leaking fuel tank around fuel pump ring, fuel pump stopped working
My mbz e350 is leaking fuel. Very strong smell both from inside and outside. I believe this is extremely dangerous to the driver and or passenger in my car. Also, when gas tank gets filled up, my e350 engine will start but it will die within 5 to 7 seconds. I've contacted mbz usa to inquire about the issue, i was informed that there's no extended warranty available to address the issue. But i've couple of documents related to same issue in which mbz stated that they're extend the warranty to fuel components.
After refueling my car's gas tank i began to smell gas from driver/rear side when car is parked in garage. The smell disappears after about 50 miles of driving, but it comes back after refuel.
Fuel smell. Took vehicle to dealership and they stated that i need the fuel tank replaced and the fuel level sensor on the left side was leaking. Repair cost estimated $3000.00.
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that the key fob failed to open the trunk. In addition, the rear license plate light and third brake lights were illuminated. The transmission in my car will intermittently shift into low gear while diving.the car suddenly looses power while at highway speed.the check engine light came on and now the transmission won't shift out of first gear.i'm told by the mercedes-benz dealer that the transmission must be replaced and i have to pay for it, $7000!this is a serious safety issue and i should not have to pay for their failure.
Rear differential noise diagnosed as failing pinion gear. This car has been driven carefully. The milage is 63,000. Rear differential problems appear in various forumsand may occur more commonly than is currently known by the nhtsa. Similar/same may also be occurring in chrysler products. The rear differential will need a rebuild or replacement.
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that all of the rear seat belts were inoperable. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms as listed in nhtsa campaign number: 07v465000 (seat belts). The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired.the manufacturer was notified and stated that there was no recall; therefore, the contact would have to pay out of pocket for the repairs. The failure mileage was approximately 147,000.
While driving the car tonight the seat started smoking and there is a burn hole on the driver seat 1/2 dollar in size. The car was in motion, seat heater in use.
Fuel pump and sending unit is cracked causing fuel vapor to enter cabin.also driver seat heater is over heating causing considerable discomfort and cannot be used. When i started to research these issues i found numerous other complaints for the same problems had been previously reported but i have not received a recall notice.
The driver side seat heater when turned on has begun to burn through the seat itself causing a hole the size of now a nickel (lower left hand side of the seat). Happened just before thanksgiving and again when my wife was driving the car and forgot there was an issue. The smell and the smoke from the burning seat made her pull the car over. When this first happened, it actually burnt a whole in my jacket as well. All images have been attached. I have spoken with mercedes and their solution is repair the issue and then place a cover over the area. Still does not seem safe or an appropriate fix.
Within a few seconds of powering on the driver's side seat heater i smelled plastic burning and immediately powered off the seat heater. Since i was already on the road i continued driving and did not investigate further. The following day, i powered the seat heater and immediately after the burning smell reocurred, however, this time the left side lumbar support became very hot. I powerd off the seat heater immediately after and pulled off the road and notice a burn hole on the driver side left lumbar support area of the seat.
Seat heater in driver's seat back overheated, resulting in a burn through the seat and caught the driver's clothing on fire.
Driver's side seat heater malfunctioned causing a fire. Vehicle was a 2008 mercedes e350.
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that the driver side heated seat failed and overheated. The seat burned the contact through his shirt and belt.the contact stated that he smelled smoke and had to open the windows because the smoke had become overpowering. He then powered the heated seats off before it could cause a fire.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 51,000.
Turn heater for driver side seat, smelled something burning on left lateral lumbar area, noticed a burn through seat cover.this is the second time this has happen, had it repaired at dealership about five years ago.i was on city street when this happen,
I smelled strong gas smell a few days ago.

The driver's seat back heater burned through the seat cover.at the time of discovery, the vehicle was moving and there was a burning smell.when the vehicle was parked in the garage, i discovered the hole in the seat.there was a similar issue involving 2000-2007 m-class, 2006-2007 r-class, and 2007 gl-class models which was settled in a class action lawsuit callaway v. Mercedes benz.to my knowledge, there have been no recalls or acknowledgment by mercedes benz for any vehicles with the similar defect/hazard subsequent to 2007.my vehicle is a 2008 mercedes e-class. While mercedes repaired my seat at no charge, they unlawfully, in my opinion, required i sign a release prior to the commencement of repairs.
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that the driver side heated seat failed and overheated. The seat burned the contact. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where she was informed that the problem was a manufacturers defect and she needed to notify the manufacturer before any repairs would be performed. The dealer disconnected the heater circuit. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that the seat was not an issue and that the failure was caused by how the contact was sitting in the seat. The contact planned to return the vehicle which was at the dealership at the time of the complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000. The current mileage was approximately 43,400.
The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that the driver side seat warmer burned through the seat and the contact's clothes without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer.

I suspect serious manufacturing problem with my car.
Engine stalls while driving. The car loses power brakes and power steering. No check engine alert comes on and the lights remain on. The car starts again once i pulled over and started the ignition again. This has happened about 6 times in 18 months and is very dangerous. Engine stalls while driving. The car loses power brakes and power steering. No check engine alert comes on and the lights remain on. The car starts again once i pulled over and started the ignition again. This has happened about 6 times in 18 months and is very dangerous. Panoramic sunroof exploded outward, with anything striking the car. On the road alone with no other vehicles, the glass shattered upward, held in place for a bit until i could exit, then falling inward as i pulled into a service station.
Front tires wore out on the inside prematurely. Dealer ( keyes merc.) was unable to align the front suspension. I was told that the suspension had dropped, due to gravity, and that they would have to place shims to prop up the front end. Merc customer relations was unable to provide me with a reasonable engineering explanation and unwilling to rectify the situation. The shims were placed and the car still pulls to the right.my main concern is the safety of my family in the event of a suspension failure.
In the past 10 months the car in question has expereinced one broken suspension coil spring, and a seperate suspension coil spring fracture.i contacted mercedes about this issue and expressed my concern about the quality of these core suspension components.the response i received amounted to them being sorry that "things fail".i suspect there is a large population of poorly designed/manufactured suspension springs in mercedes' vehicles on u.s. Roads right now and i felt some responsibility to report my experiences. Updated 9/28/2015*ln

While traveling at ordinary speed on even interstate surface (i-64) east bound the rear right tire of my mb e350w4 blewout. I was able stabilize the car and exit the highway as i was just then in front of a an exit. My tires had been recently inspected during a regular service of my car. There is no reason or event which could have caused the sudden tire failure. I have filed a complaint with continental tire customer service, but the company has failed to acknowledge that their product may have manufacturing issues. Now i have observed a blemish developing on the sidewall of another tire. The dealer has suggested that "we watched it" for a time and see what happens. My tires are continental, contiprocontact, 245/40 r18 93v, ms radial.replacing the tire cost me some $350 sand could have cost me my life or very serious injury had i been traveling at higher speed or ir the front tire had failed rather than the rear. I firmly believe these tires pose an immediate threat to public safety.

Problem with 2015-2016 navigation dvd updatei purchased the (2015-2016) latest navigation dvd update for my 2008 mercedes-benz e350 sedan from the mercedes-benz dealership at denver, colorado.since january 23rd 2016, when i made the purchase, the navigation dvd has been working fine - except for yesterday, when i wanted to go to an office building in highlands ranch, colorado. I found out, to my surprise, that my car's navigation interface (fed from the navigation dvd) no longer recognizes the city of highlands ranch, in colorado. Meanwhile my older dvd, which is the 2010 version, recognizes highlands ranch, without problem.after my meeting at highlands ranch, i went to the nearby mercedes-benz dealership; and the service associate helped me tremendously - but all to no avail. It was later, after lots of tinkering, that i found out that all the streets in highlands ranch, co are now put under the nearby city of littleton, colorado - on the latest navigation dvd.i have called the customer care at mercedes-benz of usa; and they directed me to here.com, so i could file a complaint. I have filed the complaint. It is interesting to note, however, that based on the map that's publicly available on here.com, streets in highlands ranch, colorado are under littleton, colorado. So, this is not a problem that is limited to my dvd or my car's navigation firmware or software. On here.com, the same problem exists.i have also called the mercedes-benz of denver (the dealership where i purchased the impugned dvd); and they told me navigation dvds cannot be returned.

This car auto accelerated while i was parking in the middle of a residential street on sep 14, 2013. My car ended up hitting another parked car in front of me. My car damage is around $13,000. It is the 2nd time when it has auto accelerated within the past 6 months. The 1st. Time when it happened i was on the road & it moved few feet by itself when i stopped at a signal. I was able to control it by hitting the breaks with lots of force. That time, i thought it may be my imagination or earthquake, but this time, 2nd time, the engine made a racing sound & it just went out of control & hit the other parked car in front of me despite of me hitting the brakes. Apparently the car brakes couldn't do anything either & the end result was i hit the other parked suv in front of me.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they found three of the four wheels was bent and cracked. They repaired the wheels per the warranty. After the vehicle was repaired it continued to make noise because the bent wheels caused other problems to occur on the axle and tires. The dealer informed him to change the tires but he fells it is the dealer responsibility to change the tires and repair the axle which was not covered under the warranty. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 33,000.

On two occasions i had loss of tire pressure on front wheels. Examination showed the alloy wheels to be cracked. This has happened two times in approximately 90 days. I have not hit any pot holes. Some typical road bumps maybe but no deep holes. I've had many vehicles since 1958 but never had wheels cracking. Research has shown quite a bit of people with the same low profile tires used on this vehicle are also having cracked wheels and loss of tire pressure. Besides being very costly, this indeed can be a dangerous situation. Loss of tire pressure can result in accidents and can subject vehicle operators to dangerous conditions when changing tires.i wrote to mercedes but they will not admit to their wheels having a problem. It could be poorly designed wheels, the use of low profile tires or a combination of both leading to wheel failures.
This mb e-350( [xxx] )of 2008 with 18" diameter rims is very poorly designed which is causing serious road hazard and may lead to deaths as the aluminum alloy rim itself damage the tire thereby developing slow leak /bubbles and ultimately a cause for serious road accident leading to possible deathstimely action is required to ban 18" diameter rims.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

2008 mercedes e350 with 18 inch low profile alloy wheels. I have had to replace two rims which were cracked causing deflation. Low profile 18 inch alloy wheels. No hard driving or curb incidents, just cracked. The tire place i took it to says they see a lot of these specific rim cracks on mercedes of this period.
I have owned this vehicle for 2.5 years. Since may of 2013 i have had to replace three wheels (rims). It has gotten to the point where they are so hard to locate i have had to purchase after market wheels. Once the crack was rather large and the last two were noticed when i replaced the tires on the vehicle. They were smaller and eventually would not hold air in the tire. This has to be a flaw in the product.
Small pothole hit. Rim destroyed along with tire. I have put approximately 12 tires and three rims on this vehicle in two years. After a search i now find out that rim and tire problems are very common on these cars. My wife has driven for over 40 years and never had a tire/rim problem.
