Letter from senator warner on behalf of constituent re mercedes benz (attn: shane clem).the consumers wife was involved in an accident and the air bag failed to deploy. His wife suffered a serious head injury. The vehicle was declared a loss.

My vehicle was listing to the right side. I took the vehicle for repairs to a neighborhood garage who informed me that that it had a defect that needed to be corrected by the dealer.the dealer said it needed repair to the airbag, shocks & struts (costing me over $4000). After research i discovered there have been eight tsb's on this particular vehicle (in 2008, 2009 and 2010), all referencing defects to the structural integrity. This was a dangerous problem that could have resulted in an accident with injury to my family, myself and/or other innocent parties.i believe your office should be made aware of this dangerous situation. Was there a recall on this vehicle?my neighborhood mechanic believes their should have been precautions taken and notices to owners made.please let me know if i have recourse in this situation.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350.while driving 75 mph, the passenger side air bag deployed for no apparent reason.the contact pulled the vehicle to the side of the road to investigate the failure and then drove to his residence.there were no failures or warning lights illuminated prior to this incident.the vehicle was taken to the dealer.the vehicle was serviced for routine maintenance prior to the failure.the current and failure mileages were 34,000.

Spent over $2k just on diagnosis and wrong fixes. It started with problems cranking. I replaced the key fob, replaced the battery, replaced the alternator, have had mercedes diagnose with no answers. My usual mechanic diagnose with no answers. A european speacialist replaced the alternator and tensioner pulley. Took it to a friend and we discovered that there was a leak in the sunroof running down the side of the car into the battery compartment. At this point various problems are going on. The windows, door locks, radio, cranking, all intermittent but not always at the same time. Took it to another mechanic who said the sans module is bad, at least. An $800 fix, then they could move to the next module and the next.also maybe unrelated but maybe not. Low car light came on. Engine 'died' (vehicle lost all power) while traveling at highway speed or will jerk down gears and only continue to function in drive @ 40mph or lower. I had to pull vehicle over on side of the road with no power assistance steering or braking. This problem occurred with no warning and at highway speeds creating an immense safety risk. Many others have reported the same issue with this and related cars for this and nearby model years. Like them, i wonder why there is no recall. Mercedes benz will not replace these defective parts willingly and there are many of these cars driving down our highways placing not only the passengers at risk but other drivers around them.

The engine stalled while in motion and driving over 45 mph.this is the 2nd time this has occurred.both times i was travelling over 45 mph on a large and busy city street and had difficulty steering my car to safety.there are no codes to explain what might be the cause.replaced the transmission control unit the first time.after removing the key, putting the car in park and waiting for 5-10 minutes, in both occurrences i was able to restart the vehicle and drive to the dealership, which was less than 5 miles from my location.

Suddenly the vehicle trunk does not open, tried both remote key & door trunk latch. Got a message on panel regarding 3rd brake light..unable to get the wheelchair from trunk but drove car around the block and was then able to open it using my key remote.then a few minutes later again was not able to open the trunk, but now the panel read license plate right and left light lamps not working...night driving is an issue now...ca laws require lic plate be lit and visible at all times.i went online and noticed all the buzz and complaints reporting this same issue regarding brown wire being severed on many makes, models and years on mer benz vehicles.i e-mailed mb customer service to ask about a recall and they do not have one to my surprise.got a call today from [xxx] @ [xxx] stating there is nothing mb can do since my warranty has expired...i advised him i have under 50k miles on this car, he said that i would need to get a diagnostic test costing me over $100 in order to find out what the problem is plus according to internet comments this is a $250 or more repair cost.i explained my internet findings and he again apologized, said there is nothing he can do for me.i explained my concerns and feel that mb should step up and take responsibility in good faith and good customer service and fix this issue at their expense, obviously it is an electrical issue mal-function and they are responsible for fixing the problem and should not put this burden and expense on their customer's.frustrated mb customer

The warning light saying my low beam bulb is blowed. The car was stationary at moment.i had the bulb replaced and it still did not work.so mechanic checked and saw pieces of wire within the headlight casing.electrical wiring to my headlights is disintegrated.so i assume; the complete wiring throughout the engine is disintegrated. So i begin searching online and read the issue with mercedes using faulty wiring.therefore; i am reporting the issue and want some type of solution.

Turned drivers seat heat feature on, after a few minutes i smelled burning. Mercedes just repaired a/c (3 visits) so turned off the a/c. Next think i knowsmoke is coming from drivers seat, my 3yr old riding in her car seat "installed" behind me. Heater in drivers seat was burning, with the air no longer blowing, smoke was now visible.i had to cross 3 lanes of traffic to pull over. The "fire" burned a hole through the leather seat to my jeans leaving me a slight burn. Car towed to mercedes.

Approximate 7 or 8 minutes after cutting on drivers seat heater. I smell something burning. Stopped vehicle when i notice smoke, cut the car off.the left side of seat back was smoldering. Hole burnt through size ofdime. Also burned hole in my leather jacket i was wearing.

I was using the warming seats and had pulled up to the post office to drop a letter in the box. The letter had fallen to the ground. I got out and placed the letter in the box. I got back in the car and pulled up to keep from holding up traffic while i had replaced my seat belt. A suv had crossed my path when i smelled something burning. I assumed it was exhaust from the suv. I was about to pull off the parking lot when i noticed thick white smoking coming from my seat. I immediately turned off the seat warmer. The smoke dissipated afterwards.i continued to drive the car about 1/2mile to the grocery store. I got out and noticed a burn on seat.

I have 2007 e350 class 4-matic sport package, the panoramic sunroof does not open and when i push bottom to open the motor sound like is grinding the car has only 75000 miles on it and the dealer does not warranty it. The cost to have repaired at mercede dealership is $1500.

I was driving home from work on a freeway traveling at about 65mph.all of sudden, my car starting to slow and decelerated which i pulled my ehicle over to the emergency lane where it stalled.the car wouldn't start after that and i can smell the burning from the under the hood.i got it towed to a mercedes specialist shop.the shop reported that there was a fire inside the air intake manifold that caused damage to other components as well which was very unusual.this manifold component was all burned and meltedinside including other surrounding components.i consulted with the mercedes dealership which they stated this never happen to any mercedes models so i think this is a defect and a safety hazard.this is only a 5 year old certified pre-owned purchase made from the dealer 3 years ago when vehicle had only 38,000 miles on it.unfortunately, my warrantly just expired 5 months ago.at this point, the damage so far exceeded $4,000 to repair and the dealership won't do offer any goodwill repair on it.luckily for me i was not injure from this incident but it may not be so lucky if it happen to someone else.

30 aug.16 took my 07 e350 with 29427 miles to the dealership because the check engine light came on and the car was hard starting.afterarriving i informed the service writer the car had shut down while driving. We were proceeding through a busy major intersection when the car shut down. Luckily it started so we could safely exit the busy major intersection.after a diagnostic test was ran, i was informed the crankshaft hall sensor was defective.additionally, the engine control unit, engine wiring harness, crank sensor and various other componentsareoil soaked.i notified mercedes benz to be told the car was out of warranty. Mercedes benz should be held accountable for the unsafe defective materials they use. The above issues are a danger to the occupants and general public as well. The defective oil soaked wiring harness is can cause a fire. The car shuts down while driving is dangerous.

My wife was driving when she smelled something burning and then felt something burning, she pulled over and jumped out to check and found the seat warmer had malfunctioned and burned through the back portion of the seat.her shirt had a slight burn to it and smoke covered interior of the car.the hole in the seat is about the size of a cigarette burn but deeper.she took it to the import repair shop who disconnected the power source wire to the seat heater for safety.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. While driving various speeds, the battery warning indicator illuminated. In addition, the power steering became difficult to maneuver and the vehicle stalled. Also, the check engine warning indicator remained illuminated. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to mercedes-benz of west chester (located at 1260 wilmington pike, west chester, pa 19382, (484) 313-1100) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The fuel pump was replaced; however, the failure recurred twice. Additionally, the fuel pump filer, water pump, tensioner pulley, and serpentine belt (which was replaced nine times) were replaced, but the failure recurred. The contact was also informed that there was an electronic failure for which the mechanic was unable to repair. The contact also stated that the fuel gauge and coolant system were inoperable, and there was a failure with the water pump. The manufacturer was informed of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 129,000.

The right rear tail light is out do to bad original electric wiring and connectors. The problem is common and widely known and they've recalled for c-class but not for e-class. Brake light won't function because connector has melted. Potential fire waiting to happen now.

On the ntigh of april 15, 2019, while drivingon a street in orlando, fl, the warning that the driver side low beam was out came on.i replaced the bulb the next day but the new bulb lasted about 20 minutes and the warning came on again.thinking i had a bad bulb, on april 17, 2019, i went in again to replace it.this time i noticed a good quantity of fragments of dried up wire insulation inside headlight housing and noticed that the 3 wires leading to the bulb were bare. The wires are shorting out, the new bulb did not last. I did a brief internet search and concluded that this is a common safety problem with the e350 and mercedes is aware of it. The wiring insulation is not suited for the job; it is failing; it could cause a fire or a crash if both headlights go out at once!therefore i am reporting this issue and expect to see mercedes stepping up and taking ownership of this problem.

My car was running suddenly stop and does not start, i take it to mercedes dealer and they charge me $195.00 plus tax to scanned it they found the ecm engine control module need to be replace. Cost is $2,300 plus tax. Please contact me for at your convenience so i can take further steps towards mercedes benz.

Smelling strong gasoline insideand outside car after running the vehicle, why doesn't recall no. 2008020001 apply to my vehicle, esp warning light come on and gear-shift got stuck,i can't shift to other gear from park position.

At about 87,000 miles, the car is essentially useless because of a known defect. The balance shaft, engine intake manifold and transmission conductor plate need to be replaced. Mercedes will not take responsibility even though there was a class action lawsuit.

The front inner tires get cupping over the time, i have to replace them every 10,000 miles. All the suspension parts are new put still the problem going on.it is a manufacturing problem with the heavy engine get the load on the power train and with the time it losing and make the tires cupping from the inner side.

The engine light came on and i brought my car into the local mercedes dealer.the diagnosis result according to the service representative was a camshaft balancing rod problem and the estimate to replace the balancing rod was quote at $6500. I did subsequently look into this problem online and found that their are similar occurrences with this vehicle and the conclusion is that it is a manufacturing defect for this engine. The service representative agreed that it is too early for any engine to have this type of problem and called mercedes benz they decline to assist in this matter.can nhtsa look into this problem and see if there is a problem with this engine?thank you

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. While the vehicle was undergoing routine service at a repair shop, a failure code was stored in the computer pertaining to the engine assembly. There were no warning indicators illuminated. There were also no tsbs or recalls pertaining to the failure. The independent mechanic replaced the intake manifold, gaskets, lower injectors, o rings, and cleaned the engine assembly for carbon build up. Additional technical analysis was also conducted. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was not available.

Cam gear deteriorated

My car has been having a high smell of gasoline for quiet a while after i fill up my tank, until eventually one morning i went out started my car before going to work a couple my weeks ago and it started but died after a few minutes and has not started since. It crank but does not start.

Check engine light came on. Took the vehicle to the local dealer and they found codes 1200, 1208, p0016 and p0017. Worn balance shaft sprocket. Doing research online turns out there are hundreds and hundreds of affected mb customers. Mercedes knew of this problem as early as 2007 but has not publicly addressed this issue or issued a recall. The bill to fix this issue is over $4,000, some people report the dealer quoting them over $10,000. My price to fix this is $5,995.my complaint is that this is a known issue by mercedes. Knowingly they installed, and kept installing, parts that wear out prematurely leaving customers with an unfairly large bill to correct their mistake.

Every time the gas tank is filled 100% full (only until gas pump nozzle first click) and the car is being driven for less than 20 miles and parked, i can smell very strong gasoline odor from outside the car. I have tried to find the issue and lifted it up. What can be seen is about 1oz of gasoline puddle on rear undercover (underneath gas tank). Other than that, i can see leaked dried gasoline path on the side of the tank, which points to the location of the puddle. This string gasoline odor issue cannot be seen or smelled if the tank is filled only 3/4 of tank volume. This is issue has been reported to mercedes benz service at columbia, mo. However, they quoted $600 just to find the issue, even though this is clearly manufacturing defect, since hundreds of similar cases can be found at several forums and so many has been reported here.

Cam gear deterioated

The engine stalled while in motion and driving over 45 mph.this is the 2nd time this has occurred.both times i was travelling over 45 mph on a large and busy city street and had difficulty steering my car to safety.there are no codes to explain what might be the cause.replaced the transmission control unit the first time.after removing the key, putting the car in park and waiting for 5-10 minutes, in both occurrences i was able to restart the vehicle and drive to the dealership, which was less than 5 miles from my location.

Took in vehicle for check engine light.i was told that one of the cam magnets needed to be replaced (advised to have all 4 replaced).according to service adviser this is a very common problem for 2007 and prior year e-class vehicles and that the cam magnets have been redesigned to fix this issue.the complete replacing of the 4 cam magnets was more than $600 for service (before taxes).the service adviser also stated the other problem this vehicle consecutively comes in for is a faulty gas tank that is prone to crack which required the gas tank to be replaced. Mercedes-benz should clearly address the above issues on this vehicle.

Hi my name is [xxx]owner of a mercedes benz e350 2007 i always been loyal to mercedes because i was in the be leave that they had safe cars but unfortunately with this vehicle i had a big problem i was driving in the freeway in the car just stop with a terrible odor of gas; i pull t the side of the road got out the car and call for help. The towing truck took my car to the mechanic than it was than when we find out that the this model and year of the car had problems with the fuel pump and many other problems. Called another towing truck to take it to mercedes benz dealer in monterey calif spoke with [xxx]wish he is the manager in that location they check the car and said that there wasn't any warranty in the vehicle that have to pay out of my pocket , i show him all the documentation from safe car.gov also known as nhtsa i printed out all the documentation saying that mercedes benz extended the warranty in this vehicles for 15 years unlimited miles [xxx] the ownership of the car. Even dough i took all this documents to [xxx] at mercedes benz at monterey calif dealer he didn't want to fix the car, he told me and my husband that he exposed this to the mercedes benz representative from the head quarters and they are not approving it wish i really be leave that they should with no hassle at all. At this point i have no car and mercedes benz its not responding the according to the warranty of the extra 15 years unlimited miles and regardless of the ownership. Please i really appreciate that you help me to take care this matter.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where a diagnostic was performed, which located the failure at the engine crank shaft sensor. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 81,000 and the current mileage was 82,000.

Balance shaft sprockets and idle gears problem, and p0016 ad p0017 engine light is on.

While driving on freeway, engine suddenly revved high and almost red-lined on rpm gauge.exited freeway and rpm (while lowered) was still high.a 3rd party mechanic diagnosed transmission valve body failure and advised on replacement.this must be a a known issue because mechanic asked that in order to replace the part a valid personal id must be recorded as part of the parts replacement per mercedes.

Car was acting wield while driving at 55 or 65 mph on freeway for sometimes and suddenly engine got kill off completely on freeway 57 and i was almost got kill with this benz. The car check engine light went on for a few days and then went off again and i don't know what is that means so i had the car scan check for problem but it showed nothing on computer. After the incident, i has it rescan again, and it showed a p0025 problem code pointing it to a faulty part "cam shaft retard on bank 2". On the next day i was googling to check out what is the p0025 code mean and then i had noticed that this type of faulty cam shaft part has been long award with many of the drivers. This is a very dangerous and very unsafe issue and i am filing a complain for this to the mercedes manufacturer to have this resolve asap.

While driving and changing gears from first to second, ator around 10 - 20 rpm my engine became uncontrollable and jerked sporadically. I could not control the vehicle until it changed into 3rd gear and then began to drive as normal.the car does this repeatedly now until i feel it has become unsafe to drive.the jerking is random so i don't know when to expect it and what to do when it happens.it has caused me to veer off the road occasionally.

6/29/14 traveling when check engine light came on.stopped and looked under hood, did not see anything out of the norm, drove it home.drove a few days later to dealership. Found intake manifold faulty and cam adj maginet. Not repaired-$3000 quoted. Drove it home where it remains. Searches on internet shows this defect is under investigation. Also car rides rough; all four wheels are bent due to regular road wear and tear.both these issues could have caused catastrophic consequences. I am not the first owner of this mb. Were mb aware of these defects and failed to inform me prior to purchasing the e350? the manufacturer needs to remedy these defects.

My vehicle shut off while i was driving on a main street.two minutes later i could start it. Then next day i could so i took it to a trusted mechanic and was informed about recall. It hasn't started since. The mechanic isn't certain about exactly the problem but said there was some misfires on sensors. Unknown exactly what's wrong. I did get a letter in the mail about a recall offered to me if similar conditions happen.

Upon filling up gas tank you can smell gas around the rear of the vehicle. This happens for the first day or two after filling up and then becomes less and less over time until you fill up again. There is a much stronger smell when inside an enclosed garage and i am worried about the fumes being ignited by a water heater pilot flame.

Engine light came on when i was driving. Did diagnostic and it says camshaft sensor problem.which means it's not only the diesel models with this issue.

My check engine like came on and i took the car to the dealership to trouble shoot the problem.i was told that the "balance shaft gear" needed to be replaced and that it would cost $5,500 minimum.i have since then learned that this is a defective part that has effected literally thousands of m272 engines that mercedes benz knowingly used even after learning that the metal components of this very important part of the cars engine would not last.the part typically fails after the manufacturer's warranty and therefore is not covered by the dealership or mercedes benz.a class action suit was filed in 2011 and the judge in the case failed to rule in favor of the consumer. I have read where when this defective part fails it can certainly cause a dangerous situation for passengers in the automobile.many owners have described the failure of this part as failing while driving at highway speeds when the engine and steering are severely affected.

Purchased certified pre-owned car in june 2012. On or about feb 2013, car started having illuminating odor in the cabin that resembled fuel or anti-freeze. Garage and car odor was so bad it actually entered my home and i had to leave the garage door open to ventilate. Went on line and found other owners exhibiting exact defect. Took vehicle to mercedes dealer and was informed that a leak from the fuel tank was the cause and it was not from damage but from the sending unit and lines. The dealer informs me that the repair is not covered under the warranty and that it will cost $2100.00 to fix. After reading the warranty and contacting mercedes directly, i contacted the dealer and informed them that it is a covered item and they should make the repair as a warrantied item. They re-checked with mercedes and called me back and stated that they had "did something in the system to make it reject" and it is a covered repair and will be fixed under the warranty. I am making this complaint because i believe that the replacement unit will be the same oem part that has not been modified to solve this failure from duplicating later.

Gas smellat all times.greater smell when stored .engine light came on.took to the dealer, charged $4,000.00 to repair.

When i fill up my gas tank, there is a strong fuel odor.after driving about 30 miles the odor goes away.took it to the dealer and it was a crack in the upper portion of the fuel tank.this looks to be the exact same issue as many other e350 owners.total cost for the repair was $2,100.additionally my check engine light comes on and off randomly.dealership said it was the camshaft adjusters that need to be replaced.again, seems to be issues with numerous other owners.my jeep which was half the price has had less problems than my 2007 e350.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350.the contact stated that his vehicle has stalled at least four to five times.while driving 75 mph, the vehicle will shut off and then restart ten minutes later.during the failure, the steering wheel locks up and the turn signal does not work.a valid vin was unknown.the current mileage is 4,090 and failure mileage was 3,800.

Fuel gauge showed 3/4 tank, car stopped , mechanic told us the car was out of gas. I spend 600.00 at the shop to find out this. They first wanted to replace tank, fuel pump and senders. Gas gauge is not working proper, any advise?

The right rear tail light is out do to bad original electric wiring and connectors. The problem is common and widely known and they've recalled for c-class but not for e-class. Brake light won't function because connector has melted. Potential fire waiting to happen now.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that the vehicle leaked gasoline into the rear driverā€™s side seat causing a pool of gasoline under the seat. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed but not yet repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact was provided information of a possible manufacturerā€™s recall. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

My check engine light went on and i immediately took the car to my mercedes dealer who, after investigating, said that i had a leak in the seam of my fuel tank.the leak was in the passenger compartment but i couldn't sense any gasoline odor.the dealer said that the tank had to be replaced and the charge would be $2200.i left the car for repair and when i picked it up the dealer said they would pay half the cost.after checking reports of the same problem on the web, i have been wondering if mercedes is covering up a potentially lethal defect in that model.

Gas leak when fueling causing gasoline fumes in the vehicle. Very dangerous!!

Filled up my 2007 mercedes e350 on 1/4/14 and came home.i was awakened by a strong odor of gas smell.went into the garage and was meet with even a stronger odor of gasoline.this is a dangerous situation due to the fact that my water heaters are located in my garage and i don't want to have an explosion due to the vapors.i have noticed multiple complaints on this issue and an investigation is being done.i just hope that no one is injured or killed before something is done to take care of this.

Excessive gas smell inside and outside of vehicle. After tightening the gas cap and trying to figure out what the problem was, i contacted the main new jersey office jan 24 to report that i was afraid to drive the car any longer. That day, the car was towed to the local mercedes benz; i was initially informed that the smell was due to a leaking gas tank. However the leak was coming from the fuel filter/seal/cover ring for which i was charged $570.70 to replace. At that time, mileage was 128,318.

2007 vehicle with less than 30,000 miles.upon filling fuel tank, vehicle emits gas odor near tank location (rear passenger side wheel).this continues until level in fuel tank is below approx. 3/4 full.dealer initially replaced seals on fuel tank.problem continued and they are now replacing the fuel sending units.based on what i have seen on various discussions and forums, this seems to be a consistent, recurring issue and one that should be addressed by the manufacturer.gas pooling on top of the tank behind the rear seat and the related emission of fumes is not acceptable nor safe.

Every time i fill up my gas my garage smells of strong gas order. No visible gas leak and no smell in the car, just inside the garage.

My 2007 mercedes e350 has a fuel tank leak as determined by the mercedes dealership services dept.my extended warranty has expired just 2 weeks before the check engine appeared and that is why i brought it to the dealership. The dealer wants to charge me $2,700 for replacing the fuel tank.reference nhtsa action number: pe12001.

Gas smellat all times.greater smell when stored .engine light came on.took to the dealer, charged $4,000.00 to repair.

Gasoline vapors fill cabin after refueling. Gasoline is passing from fuel system to some point believed to be beneath or behind rear seats.

Gasoline odor was smelled in/out after filling up. Found gas-leak beneath driver's rear seat, on top of gastank, inside the cabin. Also found gas drops on garage floor.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that the fuel sensor was leaking fuel onto the fuel tank. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was awaiting to be repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.updated 4/21/15

My car has a strong gasoline odor. The dealership said the fuel tank is leaking and needs to be replaced. They have denied warranty coverage on a leaking fuel tank. Please reference nhtsa # ea13003. This problem has been acknowledged and a warranty program put in place by mercedes benz to avoid a recall. Now, they are denying warranty coverage. Can your investigative team open this case up and help us- consumers. On the surface, this appears to be an ethical problem for mercedes benz. Repair cost $976.00 for a new fuel tank. Please help. Every time i fill up my car all the way, i notice avery strong fuel smell coming from the driver side of the car. I haven't spilled any fuel inside my car so im assuming there is a leak somewhere, the smell is unbearable at times.

Gasoline is leaking from fuel tank.

I bought my car used a couple of months ago. The last two times i filled my fuel tank i smell gas in my garage. When i only fill to 3/4 or less there's no gas smell. The smell will subside once my gas drops to 3/4 full. This was repeatable both times i filled my fuel tank. Please reference nhtsa action# pe12001.

There was a very strong fuel smell that began 8 months ago every time i parked the car in the garage.it was almost like someone spilled some gasoline on the floor.a month ago the check engine light came on and indicated a p0456 error code on the obdii reader.i brought it in for a smoke test to find the leak and the driver's side fuel sending unit was leaking.after it was replaced, the check engine light still came on.the mercedes dealership said the fuel tank itself was cracked on the top part of the fuel tank where the 'nipples' are that connect the hoses to the carbon canister.i noticed online on mercedes forums that this is a very common complaint and that there is a lawsuit against mercedes for such a common defect.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350.the contact stated thefuel tank failed.when the fuel tank was full thefuel fumes penetrated the vehicle and the trunk area. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where a diagnostic test was performed whichlocated the failure within the fuel tank vent hose which was made with a defective plastic liner, and caused the fuel to leak. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer replaced the fuel tank. The failure and current mileage was 72,000. Updated 02/15/12the leak was coming from the gas tank vent hose. Updated 03/26/12

This car has everlasting gasoline smell.this smell is very evident and persistent inside the closed spaces like the garage not to mention in and around the car, inside and out, pretty much all over the smell.the smell is so pungent that you can smell inside the moving car throughout the drive, regardless of the length or time of the drive, causing constant headache.the smell is even more poignant when the gas tank is filled full tank of gas, which causes even greater headache deterring the ability to drive!

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that the vehicle emitted a strong gasoline fuel odor. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and inspected. The failure was located at the fuel tank seal. The dealer replaced the fuel tank seal but the failure was not corrected. A few weeks later, the contact noticed a noise in the rear of the vehicle and found that fuel had leaked on the rear seats and the fuel lining injector. The vehicle was taken back the dealer where they advised the contact that the replacement fuel lines could possibly have failed. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 48,000 and the current mileage was 60,000.

I began smelling gasoline when inside the car.i called the dealer to schedule an appointment to have the car checked for fuel leaks.the dealer suggested bringing the car in the following week. So i took the car to a nearby oil change service company and had them change the oil and check for a fuel leak.the oil change service could not find a fuel leak, but confirmed that they smelled gasoline and suggested i take it to the dealer.on december 10, 2014, i took the car to the dealer and was told that they found a fuel leak at the fuel filter assembly that is under the back seat and that the repair would be $649.00.and it was possible that once they repaired that, the leaking at the tank may increase requiring replacement of the gas tank.as i waited for the repair, i searched the internet to see if this repair was the subject of a recall.i found that this exact issue is being investigated by the nhtsa, nhtsa action number: pe12001.i showed the service technician what i found on the internet and he said all they could do is replace the fuel filter assembly to see if that would fix the leak.they changed the tank inner module, 211-470-60-94, for $264.00; 2 seal rings, 211-471-05-79, at $39.53 ea for $79.06; discounted the labor from $343.66 to $187.50; and miscellaneous charges and sales tax, for a total service repair bill of $576.03 for replacement of fuel filter system and seal rings.at this time it is unclear whether this will in fact fix the problem or make it worse.

My car smell of gas fumes when i fill up. Online research has shown me that many other mb owners have the same problem. The mb gas sending units are leaking under the back seat. There was a recall for 2003 to 2006 models but not 2007 although many 2007 models have the same problem. I have young children that i often take with me in this car and feel this is a major health and safety issue.this is their defect. Please help me to get mb to correct this problem as it is a safety and emissions issue and they are to blame.thank you.

Strong gasoline smell after i fill the tank up. I never top it off, normal fill up until the gas nozzle clicks. The smell comes from left rear side. I am concerned that it will catch on fire one day.

This is the second incident in 3 years involving my fuel tank! there is definitely a defect here!! the first time, i had my fuel tank replaced in 2010 (at 37,473 miles) because of a very strong odor of gasoline from inside the cabin of the vehicle after i would fill-up. This time i began to notice a very strong odor of gasoline from outside of the car, at the rear, left side of my vehicle, when it was parked in my garage. I took my car in for a regular service, and i was told that the mechanic also noticed a strong odor of gasoline from the rear left side of the vehicle. I have to take it back for further inspection. There is no fuel leaking onto the ground beneath the car, but there is clearly a leak somewhere. I searched online for recalls and came across this complaint.

After fueling car, there is a strong raw fuel smell that permeates the car.it will last for about 40 miles then will subside.if you have not driven sufficient mileage before parking, the smell can last for days, weeks and/or months. If the car happens to be parked on an incline, the fumes are strong enough to keep you out of the car.

Strong gasoline smell inside the car and my garage when i fill up my gas tank.

When i fill up with fuel i have a fuel leak coming from top of tank under drivers side back seat where the wires and lines are screwed into top of tank. I have read this seems to be a problem on several of these cars and assume it is a fire hazard especially since the electrical wires are in the pool of fuel on top of tank. When fuel level goes down it stops leaking.

The above date is an estimate:transmission slips causing car to stall and almost got rear-ended.took car that was under warranty to dealership and they could not find an issue with transmission.problem have gotten worst.googled issue and found a lot of complaints about the same issue.the more serious problem is my car reeks with the smell of gasoline.took car to same dealer and they said they fixed the problem but my car still smell of gasoline.i actually get nausea when driving and eyes began to burn.if i was a smoker, i would be afraid to light a cigarette in my car.my garage also smell of gasoline when i park.wsbtv in atlanta did a series on this issue last month because of the many complaints. Someone will be injured or killed if these issues is not address.dealer is mercedes benz of south atlanta.

Local car dealership service reported that our vehicle was leaking fuel.this conversation occurred through my wife (her car), via telephone, and when i asked "why" i received the answer "normal wear and tear."the service write-up indicates that both fuel senders required replacement, at a cost of approx. $1200, which was performed.i believe this is simply another instance where the fuel sending units on a mercedes e350 w211 chassis are leaking fuel, creating an extremely hazardous condition.

2007 mercedes benz e350noticed strong fuel/gas odor inside car after filling up gas tank and would subside after gas tank was approximately 3/4. My children & i had to roll down the windows while driving due to feeling nausea. This has occurred often for weeks. Last thursday on 8/7/14 i was driving vehicle coming to a signal light at an intersection and the car started shaking like is was loosing power, then it shut off in the middle of the street at the intersection. I tried starting it back up and it would not start at all after cranking for few seconds looking like it was not getting fuel at all. I had to get my car towed, the mechanic said it was the fuel pump and it will cost $2000 to replace. This seemed extremely hazardous for car safety having to smell the fumes and almost causing an accident. There have been an enormous amount of complaints regarding the fuel emission pump/tank & thismanufacture defect of the car which is a major road safety hazard item should be considered as a safety recall from mercedes car company.

After gas tank is filled fuel is forced from the top of what appears to be the fuel sending unit below the rear seat. The fuel pools and stains the insulation and bottom of the seat.it causes gas vapors in the car for weeks.seat and padding have to be pulled and allowed to dry.excess fuel has to be toweled from the area around the sending unit.until the tank empties several gallons of gas this procedure has to be repeated. The smell of gasoline in the auto is unforgiveable. I read where this is a problem with many mb's of this type.

After filling up gas tank there is a strong odor of gas in the garage. This goes away after 50-100 miles on the tank of gas.i have not noticed any gas leaking on the garage, just the odor.it seems stronger on the driver side of the car.odor recurs after each fill up.

Shortly after we purchased the car on 3/13/2013 we noticed that after we filled up the car there was often the smell of gasoline.this never occured when the gas tank was not completely filled.after a number of times investigating this smell, our auto mechanic was finally able to determine that fuel was leaking from the center vent connection of the tank.the fuel tank was removed and they found theleak around the center vent hose connection.the fuel tank and seals were replaced on 8/30/13.updated 9/24/13 updated 12/05/13

I began noticing a strong smell of gas from inside and outside the car.i took the car to the dealer and they removed the rear seats and access panel to the fuel sending units.they found fuel leaking from the fuel sending unit with fuel level sensor on the driver's side.it was leaking from the unit itself not the seal ring.damage code 047006767.dealer indicated it was necessary to replace.replaced fuel sending unit with fuel level sensor and replaced with new, reconnected lines and connectors.reinstalled all components, added fuel back in the tank and check for leaks from sending unit.they determined the unit was not leaking once repaired.flash forward to 7/24/14 and i have issues again with the fuel system. Components of the system were replaced again at a cost of $1,752.16.i am very concerned about the safety of this vehicle.please continue to investigate this issue with this model and year.

We have noticed an extremely strong gasoline smell. This is while the vehicle is parked and while it is moving. The repair shop said the fuel tank is leaking and needs to be replaced because of a fire hazard. Updated 8/22/13

I have a 2007 e350 that had 2 cups of fuel sitting right above my left fuel sending unit and fuel tank. My garage smells of fuel every time when i fill up the tank. After further investigation and research, we found out that there is enough leaking fuel to cause a major fire in my car underneath the right back seat. Called the dealer and they would handle the issue, but they would still charge for parts and labor since the car does not have manufactured warranty anymore. There are thousands of complains out there but mercedes will not make a recall and handle the repairs. These cars can catch on fire since the fuel is leaking. I scheduled an appointment for the car to be fixed but since this is known problem and not the first person complaining about this, mbusa should be paying for these failures.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that fuel fumes were emitted insto the vehicle each time the vehicle was started. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the fuel tank was leaking due to a crack. The dealer also stated that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 57,000.

Smelled gas inside vehicle after filling up, engine light came on, and the smell was extremely overwhelming with gas fumes. I had to roll all windows and sunroof down in 20 degrees weather. Contacted mercedes benz atlanta on piedmont (all records on file with up keep of vehicle maintenance) to advise. First available appointment was tuesday 8 am. Took the car to be repaired and i am stuck with a $1400 repair bill. I was told by my service advisor that in 7 years the fuel pump goes out and has to be replaced? really mercedes? this is a manufacture defect and the consumer should not be held accountable for something this major. So much for high end top of the line. This is certainly a defect and needs to be recalled immediately. I want my money back and mercedes need to send my check immediately. I will think long and hard before i purchase another mercedes since this is the normal expectancy for mercedes upscale performance.

Parked in garage. Every morning i would smell strong gas odor. Told by jackson automotive the gas tank was leaking. Asked them if gas tanks should go bad and they said no. They should last a lifetime. They charged me $1922.31 to replace and $41.08 for gas they put in new tank.

A strong gas odor appeared outside the left rear wheel. This only happens when the gas tank is full or near full. It was so strong that i had to remove it from my garage due to the pilot light warnings on my house heating unit and hot water heating unit. Dealer replaced left fuel sending unit and it made the odor even stronger; it did not fix the problem. This is reported on the internet by many owners repeatedly trying to fix this unit to no avail. Experts i've talked to say it is a manufacturing defect in the tank and its various components that mb has know about for years originally appearing in the e55 amg's. Of course, since the fuel system is not completely closed, it is constantly releasing gas fumes into the atmosphere.

Fuel odor noted for several weeks surrounding exterior of vehicle, esp. Adjacent to left rear wheel. No fuel puddling noted on ground. Eventually fuel odor was noted within interior of vehicle. Removal of rear seat bench revealed fuel leak, with fuel pooling noted at fuel pump located in well on upper left side of plastic saddle-style fuel tank. Based on fuel-induced discoloration of exterior of plastic pump assembly, leak had been present for some time. Fuel could be visualized leaking from top of delivery pump with fluid level sensor, when pump was energized. Installation of new style pump (211 470 41 94) eliminated problem.

I noticed shortly after i bought the car in 2008 a strong gas odor when i filled the tank. I was told this was normal for a mercedes. I have since learned that the issue is gas pooling under the back seat where the gas tank is located. I am very alarmed to find that this is the reason for the strong gas odor in the vehicle cabin and inside my garage. This issue is a definite safety risk and i was shocked at how insensitive and uncooperative mercedes benz of na was when i contacted their customer service. I am paying out of pocket to fix the problem, however, believe this should be on mercedes benz's dime. I am filing this complaint against mercedes for that reason and plead for your support.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350w. The contact noticed a strong fuel odor and a fuel leak while placing fuel into the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to fletcher jones motocars (3300 jamboree rd, newport beach, ca 92600) where it was determined that the vehicle was not included in the unlimited mileage extended warranty for fuel leaks. The manufacturer was also notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 162,000.

Gas vapors fill the passenger compartment/cabin when the gas tank is full.

My car smell of gas fumes when i fill up until it empties to 3/4 full. Online research has shown me that many other mb owners have the same problem. The mb gas sending units are leaking under the back seat. There was a recall for 2003 to 2006 models but not 2007 although many 2007 models have the same problem. I went to mercedes-benz of beverly hills and they would not correct the problem. I told them i felt that this is an emissions problem and a defect by mb and i should not be held liable to pay for their defect. Please help me to get mb to correct this problem as it is a safety and emissions issue and they are to blame.

Took my vehicle into the shop for new spark plugs and a coil replacement. They noticed a strong gasoline smell coming from the vehicle. They removed the back seat where the fuel pump is located and found the fuel pump is leaking. You cannot just replace the fuel pump on this year/model e350. The entire gas tank must be replaces. We had noticed the smell of gas a few times after filling the vehicle completely up with gas and were wondering why it smelled so strongly of gasoline. Now we found out why. Mercedes is wanting to charge me to bring my car into an authorized dealer/service center to assess the situation. However, they want to charge me for assessing it and from there make a determination if they will even do anything about it since my vehicle is not under warranty.

I have a 2007 e350.my garage smells of fuel every time when i fill up the tank. The dealermentioned that there is issue with fuel tank. There are thousands of complains out there but mercedes will not make a recall and handle the repairs.this is not awear and tear problem.this is should be a recall from mercedes. Since this is known problem and not the first person complaining about this, mbusa should be paying for these failures.

2007 mercedes benz e350showed symptoms of cranking but not starting intermittently and also noticed fuel odor in the compartment often for weeks.eventually fuel odor was noted within the interior of the vehicle and the car will not start at all after cranking for few seconds looking like it was not getting fuel at all. When the car was arranged to be sent to the dealership, the tow truck guy removed the rear seat to identify source of fuel smell which had revealed fuel pooling on starting attempt of the engine and the heavy fuel pooling was noted at the fuel pump sending unit. This seemed extremely hazardous for car safety.the fuel was gushing out which spread to the seatand fabric and sent fuel smell and fumes into the passenger compartment. Mercedes quoted $800+ for the repairs and delivered the car promising that the faulty pump and sending unit was replaced. The car did not even make home and broke down before reaching home showing same starting problem . Hence it was towed back to the dealership and this time they are asking another $800+ to replace the second fuel pump which they claimed was working when the car was delivered. Fuel smell still exists in the passenger compartment and the car is not drivable . Dealership did not accept any responsibility for delivering the car without repairing the reported defect and asking double price for a manufacture defect of the car which is a major road safety hazard item and must be considered as a safety recall from mercedes car company.

2007 mercedes benz e350. Consumer writes seeking reimbursement for fuel tank component repairs. *ld

After fueling my car, gasoline smell became intolerably strong. I called the dealer and they told me that the 2007 e350 is known for leaks and i should bring it for a diagnostic check. The manufacturer according to the dealer is aware but no federal action has been mandated. Estimates could range from $1000 to $2000. Bummer.

I got in my car yesterday to drive it and the odor of gasoline was overwhelming. I took it to my mechanic who told me that one of the fuel pumps under my car had a faulty connection and, as a result, fumes were escaping into the car. The entire pump needs to be replaced to the tune of at least $800. He said the only reason he knew what was wrong, without even looking at the car, was because another client had the exact same issue. He agreed that it sounds like a defective part.

Gas gauge once gets to 1/2 tank no longer shows how much gas is in the tanksmell gas fumes after refueling.

I am one of this cars owner....fuel leaks and strong odor of gasoline both inside and outside of their vehicle particularly after refuelingit's sickening and dangerous . Please take action before is too late thank you

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact confirmed that while refueling, fuel leaked from the tank abnormally. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the fuel tank and the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 72,000 and the current mileage was 72,500. Updated 8/30/12the consumer stated every time the fuel tank was filled, it leaked from the left fuel sending unit under the driver's side back seat. Gas fumed were very noticeable outside the vehicle and somewhat inside the vehicle until the car was driven about 100 miles and the fuel level was down about four gallons. Liquid gas puddles were on top of the sending unitand ran down the side of the tank to the ground. The mercedes factory rep refused to replace the leaking parts. The consumer was informed that if nhtsa or the class action suit lawsuit were to rule in favor of the customer, they would do something about the problem then.updated 09/05/12

Purchased 2007 e350 wagon june 16 2014, upon first refill of fuel tank noticed the smell of gasoline inside automobile. It dissipates over time. On 30 june, purchased second full tank of fuel and noticed same issue and began research. I discovered this has been an endemic issue with the fuel pump and fuel tank. Am researching recalls and taking to trusted mechanic today to get to the root cause. Fuel vapors are highly volatile and i will contact mercedes benz to register my complaint. Will keep you updated. The current multi-billion gm recall is a similar issue that corporate leaders ignored for years and now paying a dear price. Will engage mb of na in a deliberate and dogged manner until resolved.

This is the second occurrence. Dealer replaced engine once. I reported the first incident on confirmation number (odi number) is: 10507237.this second incident occurred on or about 13 july 2013, car started having illuminating odor in the cabin again that resembled fuel. Garage and car odor was so bad it actually entered my home and i had to leave the garage door open to ventilate. Went on line and found other owners exhibiting exact defect. Took vehicle to mercedes dealer and was informed that a leak from the fuel tank was the cause again and it was not from damage but from the sending unit and lines. After reading the warranty and contacting mercedes directly, i contacted the dealer and informed them that it is a covered item and they should make the repair as a warrantied item. I am making this complaint because i believe that the replacement unit will be the same oem part that has not been modified to solve this failure from duplicating later.

When filling the fuel tank, there is a smell of fuel when parked in the garage until 40 or 50 miles is put on the car. After that the fuel smell goes away. It happens only when i fill the fuel tank. I do not top the tank off. I only fill until the nozzle shuts off. One time after fillup i drove 2 miles and parked in a friends driveway that had a steeper angle and the car leaked some fuel out on the ground and the check engine light came on.i have not brought the car in for repair yet.

After filling up the fuel tank noticed a very strong gas smell coming from the car. There were no visible leaks in the ground our under the car. Continued to drive car and as fuel level dropped the smell went away.filled up for second time and smell was back again. Began research into the issue and discovered there were 533 officially reported complaints and a lot more un-reported. Spoke with [xxx] (service manager) and mercedes benz of plano texas and he informed me they are aware of this issue but will not provide any assistance. Nathan recommended i call the mercedes benz usa customer support number and discuss it with them. I did this as [xxx] requested and i was told by customer service that i need to have the mercedes dealer officially diagnose the gas smell issue before they could provide any assistance. Customer service recommended that i pay the dealer the $90 diagnostic fee and then submit the paperwork to customer service. Once that is complete mercedes benz usa would decide whether or not they were going to provide any assistance and fix the issue. Filled gas tank and parked car in garage. The next morning there was a strong odor of gasoline in the garage. Looked into problem and found a problem with the gas sensing unit on the left side under the rearseat. Found the large nut loose and tightened. Filled gas tank again on 4/21/14 after partially filling in the interim. The next morning the garage had a gasoline odor. Removed seat and found the entire area was filled with gasoline, probably about 100 cc. Removed gasoline and drove 50 miles.returned car to garage. After four hours gasoline odor is in garage and the sensing unit is damp with gasoline. Called mercedes dealer and set an inspection date.

Strong odor of gas in home garage after filling the tank.since december 2012 i have not been able to fill it over three quarters of a tank without the strong odor reoccurring.i took it to be serviced and after one week of trying, they were not able to find the source.i purchased the car on december 11, 2009.

Bought a used 2007 mercedes benz e350 mar 14, 2011 drove less than 80 miles before check engine light came on because of code p0456. I have taken vehicle back to the dealership only to find that the fuel sending unit is leaking under rear seat/trunk area and that the vehicle needs front brake pads replaced. These issue was a preexisting problem that i was not told about even though dealer documents say otherwise. There is evidence of that on the emissions report. The check engine light had to have been reset to sell the vehicle with known problems to an unsuspecting buyer. The vehicle was suppose to have been serviced at the end of jan 2011 per document with only minimal miles accrued as the car sat on the lot. I first notified dealership april 5, 2011 it took until the 12th for them to finally tell me to bring it in to verify problem. The vehicle has been in the service department since april 12 2011 and i can not get anyone to call me back as to the status. The service manager apologized for the situation but said his hand are tied until someone approves the repairs. Today is april 15, 2011 i still have not been contacted by dealership.

Parked car in garage and there is an extremely strong gasoline odor that not only fills the garage but has seeped in to the house overnight.possible catastrophic explosion potential.

2007 mercedes benz e350.consumer writes in regards to vehicle leaking gas.the consumer stated when he returned home, the entire garage smelled of gasoline. Gas was leaking over the exhaust system on the driver's side.

After filling up my gas tank, for the first time after buying my used car, i smelled gas in the interior of the car.once home, i could smell gas outside of the car on the driver's side.i researched this online and came to find out either the sending unit or gas tank was faulty with this group of mercedes.i removed the rear seat, then removed the cover plate over the fuel sending unit only to find about 5-6 cups of gasoline sitting on top of the gas tank.i tried to soak up this gas with rags, but the volume was too great, so i used a shopvac to remove the lake of gas sitting on top of the tank, right beneath the rear seat.i bought this car because i thought it would be safe for my child; i guess i was wrong when i further read that mercedes is doing nothing about this problem and the nhtsa has been dragging it's feet for 3 years on this matter.would you feel safe driving my car, with your son or daughter in the rear seat, only to be rear ended on the highway by a truck?i am going to guess that you would say no, and that you would fear for your child being burned alive.please take action on this matter now.

After filling up the gas tank and parking it in the garage it gives off a terrible gas odor which gets more and more strong the longer the car is in the garage. Once the cars fuel tank empties somewhat it seems to not emit the gas odors while parked in the garage. I was told to reference action number pe12001.

Serious fuel leak in tank with fumesupdated 10/9/15 *ln

There is always a strong odor of gas outside my 2007 mercedes benz e350 each time i fill the gas tank.i never "top off" or over-fill the gas tank.i never smell the gas odor while i am inside my car with the doors closed and with the windows up.i never see gas on the ground under my car during or after filling my car with gas.it takes about two days (about 100 miles) for the gas odor to disappear.until it disappears, the odor is very strong when i park my car inside my garage, causing me to always have to leave the garage door up about five inches after each fill-up so the gas odor can escape the garage.i am filing this complaint because i now understand that i am not alone with this problem.it appears their is some kind of design and/or manufacturer's defect in the fuel system.this is a safety hazard.it deserves an investigation.

Fuel gauge showed 3/4 tank, car stopped , mechanic told us the car was out of gas. I spend 600.00 at the shop to find out this. They first wanted to replace tank, fuel pump and senders. Gas gauge is not working proper, any advise?

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350 wagon. The contact stated that while parked the fuel pump was leaking which caused fuel fumes to emit inside the vehicle. Extreme fuel vapor contamination inside the cabin of my 2007 e 350 sedan after fill up.

Engine light came on, taken to dealership four times. Dealer stated that there may be a leak on top of gas tank or tank may have to be replaced. Previous owner stated that there was a strong smell of gas in vehicle when tank is full. Previous owner had same issue after car was only four years of age.

In reference to pe12-001 ongoing investigation fuel leaks. When gas is put in car, strong gasoline smell inside cabin. Brought to attention to dealers several times & was assured there was nothing wrong. In march 2011, they replaced the fuel pump as goodwill gesture since complaints were received prior to warranty expiring. In april 2012 advised mercedes of fuel smell remained, at this time i was informed of a crack in gas tank under backseat. Fuel tank was replaced, brought car home, after filling with gas, once again strong fuel odor but accompanied by visual of fuel under auto. Mercedes now stated it was due to installation error & now was corrected. I have not picked up vehicle, do not have faith another potential life threatening "error" will not occur. How do we know if the replacement tank/pump doesn't have same design flaw, not worth my children's or my life to find out.

Strong gas fumes after filling gas tankthat will not go away the garage smells strong fumes, people in the car complains of the smell is this safe to smell and be confined within a car or near water heater in the garage.seems like a hazard to me.

Gas leak and smell from the gas tank.

Good morning, i purchased my 2007 mercedes e350 in april of 2016 with a 161,000 miles on the car. I have noticed several weeks after, the car began to smell like gasoline fumes after, i filled up. I decided to partially fill up during the next visit. It does work sometimes . However, i now notice the pugent odor has become stronger. I drive with the back window partially down post fill-up to avoid being over-whelmed by fumes.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that fuel was leaking from the vehicle and onto the rear seat. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the entire fuel tank needed to be replaced. The contact did not call the manufacturer nor have the vehicle repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000.

When i fill up the gas tank i notice a gas smell from outside of the car on the rear drivers side. When the fuel level drops to 3/4 full the smell disappears. I'mafraid of an explosion if i park in an enclosed garage

I have a very strong odor of gasoline after filling the tank. I am afraid that my water heater is in the garage with that gas smell it might explode. I took the car to dealer and they said it's normal . But when i checked the consumer complaint online many owners have the same problem. I have to park my car outside when i smell gas in my garage. Please look in to it before someone have to die because the defect. I never own a car before that had that problem and i think this is a very very serious matter.

Strong gasoline odors inside and outside of the vehicle upon refueling the tank to full.thegarage fumes with gas odors and the vapors can even be seen in the air.we are afraid to fill the tank and also very afraid if someone is nearby with a cigarette or fire..

Purchased this vehicle used with 60k miles, drove itabout a week with no problems. Filled the car with gas one time and noticed a strong smell of fuel in the garage and the vehicle the next day. Fuel smell in the garage lasted several days, smell in the car is very strong and has not faded or gone away for over two weeks.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that after filling up fuel tank, the vehicle emitted an abnormal fuel odor. The contact stated that the vehicle had ceased to operate without warning while traveling at 50 mph. Upon investigation, the contact discovered an investigation was opened and closed under nhtsa action number: ea13003 (fuel system, gasoline) for which the manufacturer extended the warranty to 15 years with unlimited mileage. The contact took the vehicle to mercedes-benz of portland 1605 sw naito pkwy, portland, or 97201 where the contact was informed that the defect was related to the fuel sending unit and not the fuel tank. The dealer had refused to service the vehicle under the extended warranty and provided the contact an estimate of approximately $3,000 to have the vehicle repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and offered that contact no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.

As the co-owner/buyer of a 2007 mercedes-benz e350, i am very displeased with this first car purchase from the dealership in pleasanton. Honestly, the look/make of the car can be very deceiving. In fact, it only took one day to realize the car smelled of gas inside the vehicle. Also, after taking the backseat off, gas was leaking from the fuel pump located under the seat so my dad and i decided to take the vehicle to the dealership in oakland to see if there were any recalls under the car's vin or if there was anything they could do about it that didn't have to cost us, but sadly no. The thing that makes this situation even more worse was that not once did both dealerships mention anything about the warranty for a fuel tank replacement that this particular model came with and the main complaint in order to have this fuel tank replacement is a smell of gas in the cabin, which i and my dad have mentioned about the smell of gas inside the vehicle to both these dealerships that supposedly they couldn't do nothing about unless we paid them more than half the price we paid for the car just to get it fixed. The saddest part of this situation is that we didn't find out about the warranty until the car died and couldn't crank or start so i had to do some research on google and found out about the extended warranty and took it to the dealership in oakland, but the car was no longer covered under the warranty due to the vehicle being a pvez. We had no idea the car was a pvez until that particular day so the car was definitely not covered under the 15 year/unlimited mile warranty as i had hoped considering the mere fact that the car had to die at over 150,000 miles even though we had known about the problem when the car was at 139,071 miles when we first bought it, but we were just completely clueless about the warranty.

I can smell a very strong gasoline odor from outside the car especially near left rear tire well. Odor dissipates after a couple of days of not driving but recurs when next driven. There is no gas dripping on the garage floor. Dealer wants to charge me a bunch of money just to diagnose the problem and also told me i would have to pay for all repairs. This is clearly a dangerous defect as an online search turns up many complaints of the same issue. Something needs to be done before an explosion happens and someone is harmed.

I filled the fuel tank and smelled fumes as i drove away. I then parked the car in my driveway and fuel was leaking from under the back seat under the car, very dangerous!!!

I purchased a 2007 e350 4matic wagon for my parents july of 2011 with 47,000 miles.3,000 miles later, we noticed a strong fuel odor after filling the tank.took it to mb and a filter and seals were replaced which seemed to correct the problem. My dad noticed the problem again this past week.we took it in to a certified mb shop and the problem could not be detected using a pressurized test.the tank was lowered after being told by mb there had been a recall issued for the entire tank. The problem is, the full assembly system for the tank is not available and the eta for the part is unknown.unfortunately, the authorized shop was told the part was available, so they ordered it and lowered the tank.then mb called them back to tell them the eta was unknown.so now, the dilemma is that we have no part, the tank is lowered, the shop needs to be paid for the labor, mb has no eta on the part and my parents are without a car.issue now:1. Why were we never informed by mb of this recall?2. Who pays for the labor at the authorized shop? 3. How is it possible mb has no idea of an eta on one of it's own parts?help!!!what do i do?

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that fuel was leaking from the fuel tank sending unit, causing fuel fumes to be emitted into the vehicle. The dealer and manufacturer were made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 51,000.

I began smelling a strong gasoline order after driving and parking the car.the odor was strongest when the car was parked in the garage. You could not drive the car very far without having to open the windows.after about three weeks i took the car to a mercedes repair mechanic who informed me gasoline was leaking from the fuel pump located under the backseat.due to the type of fuel tank i had (special order crash resistant tank)i could not just replace the fuel pump. I had to replace the fuel pump, fuel sensors, and the fuel tank. Drivingthe car without a repair was very dangerous. The cost was $3,000. I had no choice but to repair the car. The car had approximately 102,850 miles on it. Mercedes needs to do the right thing and step up and repair the 2007 e350's that experience this.it is either a design flaw or faulty part.

I noticed a strong gas smell in my garage whenever i fill up the gas tank, i took my car to mercedes benz dealer in houston, tx (mercedes-benz of houston greenway) and it was told that my tank has a hole and it leaks fumes into the surrounding that is why i smelled gas. The dealer asked for $3095 to repair the issue which will require replacing the fuel tank. I have been taken good care of my car and i don't understand why there is a hole in the tank in the first place, i believe it is manufacturer defect in the design/workmanship of the fuel system in this model

First noticed when car was parked, once i pulled into the driveway. I got out and smelled a really strong gasoline odor.it doesn't appear to be leaking gas on the ground.the gasoline odor was stronger when the gas tank was full. Once the tank got down to 1/2 - 3/4 full the odor was less prominent.now i never fill my tank to full because the smell is overwhelming. There aren't any indicator lights that come on.

My car for the past month has had a terrible fuel smell every time i filled my car up. The fumes smelled awful and they would make me sick. I kept asking mechanics what is going on, and when i called mercedes they said my vin number didn't match the recall. This was a total lie. I was never notified that there even was a recall. After getting to a person who has a position of more authority i was told to have the car towed to the dealership where it sits now. However i got the runaround first from corporate mercedes. Then when i was driving down a busy street the car completely stopped. I was caught in a busy intersection. When i checked on line i found out about the class action suet. I read all the complaints and almost all of the stories for 2007 e350's matched my issue. I have no idea if mercedes will stand by their name and fix this very dangerous problem. If not i will call my lawyer.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that fuel fumes emitted inside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that fuel reservoir was cracked and needed to be replace. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of this issue. The approximate failure mileage was 121,000. The vin was not available.

After i filled up gas and parked for 2 days, i went back to the car and smelled gas odor from the outside and the inside of the car. I drove the car for 78 miles and still smell the gas while driving. I went back and parked, the smell still occurred. When i checked online, there was a lot of complaint about this issue ( fuel sending unit) on this car (mercedes benz wagon 4matic e 350. 2003-2009. ) the gas sending unit has leaked. I think this is a safety issue that nhtsa should open up the investigation and conduct a recall about this issue, because i have two children's of my own that sit in the backseat of our vehicle.i will take no chances to drive this vehicle and we still own a payment on it.if this issue is not being investigate, i will take it up to the next level ( national television). I hope this issue will resolve at this level immediately .thank you[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I recently bought an 07 mercedes e350 i've found this same complaint on numerous websites the whole cab of the car fills with a terrible fuel smell only on the inside of the cabin but its so bad idhesitate lighting a lighter in the car until the windows have been rolled down and aired out its supposedly under the very spot my 5 year old granddaughter would be seated this is not only highly dangerous and flammable but will give the driver and occupants terrible headaches, nausea at times and in my opinion is a not only fire hazard but also a health hazard and it does this sitting stationary without the car running i've tried everything not filling the car to the top but even at a half tank you have the same problem its so bad i would return the car if the dealer would take it back this is extremely unhealthy

Nhtsa action number: pe12001fuel leak when tank is full.

Pungent fuel odor after filling up gas tank. The smell is so strong that it causes drivers nausea, headaches, and dizziness. Local dealer (rbm of alpharetta) states: "my tech found the fuel sending unit sealing ring to be cracked and leaking when he pulled up the back seat. Then he got the vehicle up in the air an could see fuel residue on the back side of the fuel tank that had dripped down from the top.thesolution for repair is to replace the fuel tank assembly, reason for this is your vehicle is a pzev or partial zero emissions vehicle. The fuel tank and sending unit are sealed from the factory for zero emission standards.when you arrived this morning i reviewed the vmi for your car to show you it was not part of the warranty extension for the fuel tank you spoke of.istill ran coverage for your vehicle to see if mercedes would cover the repair but it is outside the warranty period for this repair."i'm not sure of the integrity of mercedes-benz, but i will soon find out. This is obviously the exact same problem experienced on the vehicles under the warranty extension issued by mbz, but since my vehicle was originally purchased in california (pzev), they are denying the claim. I'm assuming this is due to the fact that the repair cost is much more significantthan the traditional (non-pzev) design. The pzev vehicles need the entire fuel tank replaced versus the simpler (and less expensive) fuel sending unit for the non-pzev cars. Otherwise, this is the exact same problem...only a different fix. This is a significant safety issue admitted by my service advisor. He stated, that the car is dangerous to drive in the current state. I am currently escalating with mbz leadership and hoping they will hold integrity as a business and do the right thing and fix it under this extended warranty.

Gas smell inside and outside of car when you fill car. The gas over flows and form a little pool of gas on top of the gas tank, this is just under the rear seat. This sounds like a known problem and should have been fixed (recalled) by mercedes. I took it to the dealer and had it fixed because i don't want my family sick or hurt.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. After refueling and parking the vehicle in the garage, fuel fumes emitted inside the contact's residence the next morning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,000.

After refueling there was and continues to be a strong smell of gas inside the vehicle and outside of the vehicle.

I'm smelling a heavy gas odor in my vehicle. Like there's a leak in the back seat.i feel unsafe in my vehicles. Is this problem covered under recall?

Strong fuel odor after filling up. The odor last until i drive the car for at least 40-50 miles.i have read on benz world.org numerous reports of the same problem. Mercedes-benz of austin reported ..cause is left fuel lever sender unit pressure sensor leaking.with so many complaints and the enormous danger of having so much fuel accumulating around electrical components, i don't understand how a major disaster has not yet occurred. I have called mercedes customer service managers in new jersey on more that one occasion but no action has been taken.my last communication was april 23, 2013.everyone i have talked to,associated with mercedes benz in some way, has tried to convince me that the problem isn't serious when i tell them mercedes should be responsible for the cost of repairs. The repair cost was quoted at approximately $1000.00. After my investigation of the number of owners of mercedes benz cars with similar issues, a recall or major service bulletin is in order.this has to be brought to the attention of those who will do something about it. Please continue your investigation and let me know your findings.i have driven mb since 1966. The one i speak of is my 7th mercedes.i believe they can do better for their customers.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact smelled fuel inside the vehicle. The dealer stated that the two fuel sending units needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 62,512.

When gas tank is fuel there is a very strong fuel smell in the garage. As the tank empties, the smell goes away. The mechanic i took my car to told meabout the extended warranty that mercedes was forced to issue due to investigation your department did. When i called mercedes, i was told that my car did not qualify because it was a pzev vehicle. My car has exactly the same issues as described by the other mercedes 350 e series vehicles. I noted in your defective investigation results, that you not not distinguish between the pzev vehicles and the non pzev vehicles. This is an expensive repair, and i believe that my car qualifies for the recall.

The car was filled with gas and when i got home i could smell gas and i looked around the car and it was dripping a lot ofgas on the leftside of rear wheel well. Also there was strong smell of gas inside the car.i just bought this less than a month and i took it to the dealer for repair. There has been numerous complaints and there is tsb regarding this issue. This is a very dangerous situation and the dealer is telling me that they don't know about the complaints regarding this issue.

Had fuel tank sender units repaired to stop fuel leak , less than 2 years the tank is leaking again from the sender units , dealer would not repair it .

Strong odor of gasoline inside the cabin of the vehicle. Odor so strong that passengers can not be inside the vehicle for more then several minutes at a time without feeling nausea or dizziness. Hundreds of complaints have been filed for this exact occurrence and mercedes still refuses to acknowledge the defect in the fuel tank. The smell is irreplaceable once the pooling of the fuel absorbs into the back seats . The gasoline vapors inside the cabin are not only unacceptable but an extreme health and safety hazard to occupants of the vehicle. Mileage at the time of initial incident was 63,000.

There is a strong odor of gasoline every time the fuel tank is filled.it appear that the gas is leaking from the fuel tank sending unit on top of the tank.

Just bought our 07 e350 on 4//7/15 and it had a full tank of gas. Got it home and when we got out we could smell gas really bad! we couldn't see it leaking anywhere so pulled it in the garage and it stunk up our whole garage like gas. We thought maybe the dealer over filled it so maybe it was just venting fumes. It eventually went away. Then on 4/12/15 i filled the tank up and the gas smell came back. So it only happens when it's a full tank. This is a problem for alot of e-class w211 cars. Mercedes-benz has recently made an extended warranty to have it fixed for non-pzevvehicles but i have a pzev vehicle and they won't warranty it for me! my little girls ride in the back seat that is right over the gas tank! this should be fixed pzev vehicle or not!

In january, 2009, i purchased a certified used mercedes benz e350 from a mercedes dealer in tuscaloosa, alabama.at the time i purchased my vehicle it had approximately 40,000 miles on the odometer.in december, 2012, i began to notice the smell of fuel in the cabin of my car.the smell was overwhelming and increased over time.at the time i first noticed the fuel smell, my vehicle had approximately 90,000 miles on the odometer and the vehicle was no longer under warranty.i took the vehicle to my mercedes dealer in georgetown, texas, and was informed of the faulty gas seal and was very surprised when they informed me that i had to replace the seal, entire gas tank, and gas lines.to fix the problem, which was now a safety hazard as well as an environmental hazard to the occupants of my vehicle, i had to pay over $3,600 out of pocket to have the repair completed.the repair was completed in an afternoon and i have had no further issues.my complaint is that this is a known safety hazard with the make/model of this car and mercedes refused to fix this known safety issue.without fixing this problem, the car became unusable.

My 2007 e350 mercedes has a fuel leak.the local mercedes dealership (el dorado hills, ca) inspected the car, found the leak to be coming from the left side fuel pump at the fuel tank, acknowledged that it was a common problem, and that mercedes had extended the warranty to cover fuel system repairs. So i left the car to be repaired, but later the dealership calls and says my car is a pzev (partial zero emissions vehicle) car, and therefore not covered by the warranty extension, even though it is the same part that fails on a non-pzev car that is covered. I've had several conversations with mbusa ([xxx] ) and the local dealership (service rep. [xxx]).they have offered me a 15% discount on the repair.i have already paid them $165.00 for the inspection. This dangerous defect in the fuel system should be repaired free of charge by mercedes.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

When this model is fueled to a full tank, a strong gas smell fills the car (and later the garage). This continues until the fuel burns down to 3/4 of a tank.

Strong gasolene smell filled the garage after fill up, and remains till next day so far.

I have a very noticeable gasonline odor in the cabin of my car after every gas fill up.it's so strong i get headaches sometime.i think this would be a fire hazard with this leaky gas getiing to other electric component in the car.i've once a fire in the intake manifold couple years ago.the total repair cost came out to be more than $4,000 from penske mercedes in west covina.

The vehicle's check engine light illuminated after commute from work. The vehicle was taken to mercedes-benz of el paso for diagnostic testing which revealed a crack in the fuel tank allowing fumes to escape from the vehicle. When tank is filled, gas fumes could be smelled throughout the house if the car is parked in the garage. Fuel tank was replaced at a cost of $2400 with repairs completed by mercedes benz of el paso in february 2013.

Strong odors and fumes of gasoline inside of vehicle intermitttenly, they go away and then come back, pretty sure its related to gas tank and fuel sending unit components gaskets, seal etc, there is lot of complaints about this same issue .

Once i fill up, there is a very strong odor of gasoline smell inside and outside of the car. I took of the rear seat, the fuel pump cover and there is a puddle of gas. It doesn't happen when the fuel is below 3/4 of a tank of gasoline.

"strong smell of gas on 2007 mercedes benz e350"whenever i fill my car with gas, there is a strong gas smell on the inside and outside of my car.it is so strong that it causes my entire garage to smell like gas.it is more pronounced when i fill my tank up with gas.as the tank empties with driving, the smell is less strong.this strong smell of gas is everpresent with a full and partially filled tank.this has occurred for some time now.today, i took my car to the mercedes benz ontario dealer service department to ask for repair based on an extended recall (and unlimited mileage), they said they will not repair it using the recall, too many miles.my current mileage is 178278.mercedes needs to recall all model years.this is very dangerous, and i question the liability in the event one of these cars catches fire as a result of the fuel system defect which mercedes is not willing to repair.

Fuel gauge showed 3/4 tank, car stopped , mechanic told us the car was out of gas. I spend 600.00 at the shop to find out this. They first wanted to replace tank, fuel pump and senders. Gas gauge is not working proper, any advise?

There is a strong smell of gasoline due to a defective gas tank seal - this problem is exacerbated when the gas tank is filled or nearly filled, the extreme danger of the gas fumes emitted manifests itself in the probable explosion causing deathly harm to people, owners and innocent bystanders, property, including the car itself.the car is a 2007 mercedes-benz e-350

Bought this car for my wife and we stopped to fill up the gas tank and once it was full we began to smell a very strong odor of gas

Hello guys. I am having an issue with my e350 (07), everytime i fill up my tank i can smell the gas. I don't smell it inside the car but outside the car and it is strong. It is really strong that you thought the gas spilled. Once the gas goes down to like 3/4 of a tank the odor will be gone. I tried tracing where the gas odor is coming from and i think it is under the fender on the rear driver side.

Strong smell of gasoline inside and outside of car after refueling! seems to lessen when the tank is below 3/4 full.

Strong odors of gasoline fumes fill passenger compartment of car after car is refueled. Am apprehensive about driving car with gasoline fumes so prevalent.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes e350. The contact stated that after entering the vehicle, the contact smelled fuel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis where it was stated the fuel unit and fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. Beginning at approximately 60,500 miles my 2007 mercedes benz e350 4matic sedan developed a strong gasoline odor inside the vehicle.this smell progressively got stronger and upon inspection at the dealership it was found that the sending units attached to the fuel tanks below the rear driver's side and passenger side seats were leaking fuel through a faulty seal causing the fuel to absorb into the seat cushion.this likely created a potential fire hazard inside the cabin of the vehicle, particularly in the rear seat.

When i put the car in the garage overnight, there isa stronge odor of gas escaping.engine light continued to stay on.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e-350. The contact stated that the vehicle had an odor of fuel inside. The vehicle stalled. Problem: car leaks fuel to the ground near the rear exhaust part of the car when gas tank filled past 3/4 full of a tank. Car leaks fuel, and smells excessively like gasoline inside, and outside of the car. This could be a potential health risk due to the fumes of the gasoline, and gasoline leaking. The problem could be a safety issue due to gasoline potentially leaking on the exhaust, and igniting. The car also will not pass emissions due to evaporation leak check engine codes. This happens every time a gas fill up more than 3/4 of a tank of fuel. I have pictures of the fuel leak.

I have a 2007 mercedes benz e350, when i fill up the tank i have an overwhelming smell of gasoline inside the car. It is so strong it gives me a headache. I am concerned for the safety of my children and myself. Obviously this is an ongoing issue that needs to be addressed by mercedes benz. Peoples lives are at risk here. This is supposed to be a high end car yet we are supposed to foot the bill due to mercedes benz not wanting to take responsibility for the defect. Too many people are have the same problems. Something needs to be done before someone loses their life behind mercedes benz defect.

Very strong gas smell especially when the gas tank is full.

When i fill the gas tank to the top, i smell fuel in the cabin, i think there was a recall for that, but dealership says no, there is a video on this issue on youtube as well,i got this recall number from a friend nhtsa#13003, could you please check and help me out.

[this is only explaining the first occurrence, this has happened a plethora of times since]after stopping at a fuel station and filling the fuel tank from 1/4 to full, we drove on a local road at an average speed of about 30mph for approximately 3 miles. After this we merged onto a major highway where the average speed we were going was between 60-75mph. It was after driving at these speeds for 10 minutes that we started to smell the odor of gasoline in the cabin. Without any other cars in front of us or any noticeable spill [on the road] that we may have passed, there could not have been any other origin of the odor except for the e350. At first it was a low odor of gasoline emanating from under the front passenger side seat, but soon a strong odor of gasoline filled the entire cabin, to the point of forcing us to roll down the windows. The smell did not go away completely but rolling the windows down to allow fresh air to purge the cabin did help. We have taken the car into the dealership multiple times and have requested a complete check-up of the vehicle. The dealership (euro motors of devon hill, pa) has told us that there is nothing wrong with the vehicle (fuel system wise). However, after refueling [especially from the tank being at 50% and then me filling it to 100%] the strong odor returns inside the cabin. It goes away after the fuel levels have dropped from a full tank to 3/4 full, after which the odor does not return when driving the car.i have just heard about other having the same issue and thought i was paranoid. However, it seems that this is endogenous between all other e350s. Please feel free to contact me regarding any diagnostic data that would help you get to the bottom of this.

There is a strong fuel smell in the vehicle after filling up gas tank.dealer found the issue associated to fuel sending unit, which seem to be a recurrent issue with this model in mercedes.dealer requires $1,400 to fix the issue.i have contacted mbusa to see if they can help with this repair.there has been a voluntary recall on the e class for 03-06 vehicles, however my car is an 07 model and there is no recall on this year, yet forums of mercedes benz owners are filled with same complaint for all e class models with chassis w211.please investigate this issue.i understand there is an open nhtsa case pe12-001 that may be related to my complaint.thank you for your prompt attention.

Leak from the gas tank under back seat. Smell of gas inside the car. Fuel pump doesn't work.

I believe there is a leak in my fuel sending unit. First, the tank level indicator circuit is unreliable below a half tank. Secondly, after i top my fuel tank off, the car will run out of gas after using 19.5 to 20 gallons. The tank is 21.5 gallons.

When i fill-up there is always the strong smell of gasoline inside the car and outside in the garage when parked and rolling.

The fuel tank located under the back seat is leaking fuel into the passenger compartmentit is the sending unit that is bad like 250,000 other mercedesmercedes claims our vin number is not covered and will not honor the recall updated 9/15/15 *ln

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. When the fuel tank was filled up, the entire vehicle smelled of fuel. It was diagnosed that the sender unit under the back seat, which has a trap door, allowed the fuel odor to enter the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was unknown.

After fueling the car a strong smell of raw gasoline is present from near the outside rear of the vehicle.once the level of fuel drops below 1/2 tank the smell goes away.the smell is most noticeable after the car is parked and stationary.

I have had multiple problems with my vehicle, mainly with suspension and with the fuel system.i had them replace the fuel system in 3/13 and once again i am having problems with leakage in the fuel system.

We have smelled a gasoline smell in our garage for a couple of years and never considered it was the mercedes.we also keep small gasoline tools in the garage and a harley davidson motorcycle.we filled the tank on january 21, 2013 and the next morning the smell was so bad we need to air out the garage.research on the internet revealed it was the mercedes. We took it to the dealer and the leak was from the fuel sending unit in the gasoline tank.we had it repaired at a cost of $739.09.mercedes has not offered any relief for the cost of the repair.

When filling the tank, there is an unusual smell of gas throught the vehicle. Which i attributed to gas being on my hand since i live in a state where most gas station are self service.last week while driving, my car suddenly shut off while sitting at a traffic light.after vehicle was diagnosed to be a fault fuel pump, i started looking on line and found that this is a persistent problem with vehicle of the same make model and year, but not the vehicle id number.the manufacturer did extend warranty on some vehicles, but not tp all that have the same issues.i do not see how all vehicles could exhibit the same problem, but not received the same coverage.although my vehicle was designed for the strict emission standard they have in california, i still believe they use the same gas tank on the same model year.to repair my vehicle, it would cost over 3000 dollars due to the fuel tank and fuel pump are one complete unit.while this may seem irrelevant to some, i started envisioning getting hit in the rear or some one smoking in or near my car that could result in a massive fireball of destruction.please address this situation before someone dies.

I noticed a slight fuel smell when i would fill up the fuel tank. The smell has gradually gotten worse and now is inside the car as well as permeates my garage after setting for a short period. I now have to crack my garage door at night to let vapors escape for safety reasons. This is an absolute safety issue and seems very common with many mercedes benz models and should be addressed. Thank you!

First incident occurred on 1/21/13 when my mercedes smelled like it was leaking gas in garage. Fumes were so bad that weparked it outside as we were leaving for trip.i was afraid it could catch fire.i had noticed a gas smell once before. About six months prior.it went away and the car had been in shop and nothing noted. So i did not worry. Got back from trip and took it in. Both the right and left fuel sending units were replaced. On the left a seal ring, cable harness and a bracket were replaced.the right side a seal ring was done with the unit. I had oil leaking from engine so they replaced a campaign, engine wiring, right camshaft solenoid, and oilcentrifuge. They kept my car a week as i have had many problems and they wanted to make it rightwell it turned into a nightmare. Car went back in as oil had leaked on exhaust and car smelled on fire.they degreased it and i got it back.now the worst of this. The replaced fuel sending unit was defective. I was on freeway when my car just stops running while driving it. I almost got hit at 60 mph and my car sputters once than stalls as i try to roll off freeway. I was sure my engine seized.it turns out the new fuel sending unit had a defective float. I ran out of gas and almost died because of it.there are many complaints on the internet about this fuel propulsion system. I am under warranty so mine is replaced for free. The problem is the gas fumes put you at risk for a fire. I would think for me it was at least six months. I was told the fuel was leaking behind my back seat. I am sure that is not safe.then the replacement almost kills me.very unhappy as i had intended to keep this car but am afraid to do so. Fyi my transmission body has been replaced too.

When gas tank is filled, inside cabin smells gas which is not tolerable and need to be addressed.

Strong gas odor when tank filled up.keeping fuel level at only half tank do not smell - but when fuel up to full or close to it strong odor is back.

Strong smell of gasoline in the passenger compartment.upon further investigation, gas was found pooled on top of the fuel sending unit located under the back seat on the drivers side.

Fuel smell inside and outside the car when the tank was full.fuel smell gradually lessened when the tank was about 3/4 to 1/2 empty.took the car to mb dealer and they changed the fuel sending unit under the rear seat behind the driver.it cost about $700.i kept the fuel sending unit and looking at it under magnification, i can see bad workmanship around the sending unit not being sealed properly, it was bad from the moment it was placed in the car.this item should not go bad on a car less than 6 years old that has only about 20,000 miles and always garaged.shame on mercedes benz that did not recall this item.

Strong fuel odor smell inside cabin and outside when fill up the tank.

Strong fuel smell after gas tank fill up under rear seat. Did research from nhtsa who stated mercedes had extended warranty for fuel tank components leak. Notified rbm mercedes atlanta of problem who verified extended warranty and agreed to repair fuel tank leak.however rbm mercedes notified me that the rear seat cushion was so saturated with gas fumes that they could not get smell out without replacing rear seat cushions which mercedes would not cover this cost of $550. They will replace components to delete fuel leak but not stand behind the consequences of the leaky fuel system.. Their inferior fuel system is the cause of this unbearable fuel odor that remains after their tank repair should and must be considered a part of the fuel leak problem. They should bear the expense of correcting this health hazard gas fuel smell. Exposure to this fuel smell is a real and serious health hazard that cause impaired driving abilities and permanent health consequencesand must be dealt with quickly to eliminate any further exposure. Jackatlanta, ga.

Strong gasoline vapor smell in cabin of car when it sits in the garage.the odor began about 6 months ago but it only smelled in the garage not in the car.the odor dissipates after driving about 20 miles.

There is a strong smell of gasoline in the interior of my e350. It is my understanding that this has been a problem with other e350 cars, 2007 model year.

I started to notice that when i filled my tank my car would smell like gas inside.a few weeks later the check engine light came on and within days it began to run rough and then not start.mechanic states its the fuel pump and the entire kit must be replaced you can not just replace the pump, (kit includes pump, tank, filter etc).the cost for the part alone is almost 2700, something i certainly can not afford plus labor which will take 6-7 hours to fix.that is at least another 1000 in labor.the investigation nhtsa action number ea13003 investigated this problem and expanded the scope to include all e-class models from 2003-2008.this is clearly an issue and mercedes is telling me my vehicle is not part of the extended warranty agreement.help!i have no idea what to do i have owned this car for a 1.5 years and it only has 66k miles on it.it is practically brand new!

There is a recurring smell of gas when the tank is filled above 1/2 or so. Upon inspection by a mechanic, the tank is metal and is leaking in spots at the top of the tank. Mercedes benz issued an extended warranty for 15 years to cover this make, model and year but for some reason this specific vin number is not being honored by mercedes. The mechanic says this is a safety issue and must be addressed as timely as possible. There is a bulletin from mercedes benz dated january 2015 that speaks specifically to this issue. I have contacted two different mercedes benz service departments (daytona beach and north orlando) who confirm this is a serious issue and it needs to be addressed. They both referred me to the mercedes benz customer service assistance center in new jersey. Upon contacting them, they said my issue had to be elevated to a managerial level for follow up but i have not heard back from anyone as of this complaint. I find it terribly frustrating and concerning that a known problem like this is not being more aggressively addressed to ensure my family's safety.if i wasn't living this situation myself i would not believe it - this is ridiculous.please help!!!

Hello, for several years there has been a strong odor of gasoline after re-fueling.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that whenever refueling, there was a strong gasoline fuel odor emitted from the vehicle when left in the contact's garage overnight. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and the contact was advised that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 48,000.

I own a 2007 mercedes e350 and i often notice a strong gasoline smell in and around the car, especially after fueling.based on internet research this sounds a lot like the complaints many other owners are registering.i have not discussed it with a dealer yet but i am sure any related repairs will be costly.i first started noticing the gasoline smell over a year ago but it was mild and has gotten worse recently.

My wife's 2007 mercedes benz e350 smells of gas every time we fill up the car.the smell is noticeable inside and outside the car.we had the fuel system repaired but the smell may have infected the back seat and upholstery. The cost of repair was slightly under $1500 usd.i believe this is an unsafe situation.had the car been rear ended or hit on either rear quarter it is extremely possible for the car to catch/burst on fire.i'm very upset that mercedes hasn't been required to fix this defect at their cost.i've seen numerous other complaints about this with vehicle in the 2004 to 2008 year.

2007 mercedes benz e350.owner/ occupants smell gas in the cabin, after fill up, until about 3/4- 1/2 tank. Smell seems to be originating from mid-rear drivers side.odor is present from 0 to approx 45mph (at times) with windows up and down. Reference nhtsa action number: pe12001

Have been smelling gas when tank is filled; goes off after driving for a while. Came to dealer for another problem and was told about tank leak. This has been the problem for a while, but did not realize it is a tank leak.

Strong odor of gasoline after filling tank. Vehicle was stationary. Noticeable by driver and passenger when opening door upon egress. Also when walking around rear of vehicle.

Vehicle was purchased on 11/04/12 with approximately 66,000 miles on odometer.shortly thereafter, after parking the vehicle in the garage overnight, a very strong gasoline odor was present in the garage.(this is the only car parked in the garage at my home.) there were no observed fuel leaks coming from the car or on the garage floor.i noticed this same smell around 01/14/13. (odometer reading about 70,000 at this date.) after some searching online, i determined that there were several incidents of owners reporting fuel smells only after completely filling the gasoline tank.on both of my incident dates, i had filled the gasoline tank completely on my trip home.this smell is not present after using about 3-4 gallons of fuel.it is also not present if i only fill the tank to about 3/4 or 4/5 full, which is what i most often do.when refueling, i typically refill $20 - $40 at one time and do not completely fill my tank.i have not yet noticed any fuel smell inside of my vehicle, only on the outside and within the garage.

I pull up at the gas station(shell) and fill up my gas tank....after filling up my gas tank...there was the smell of gas in my whole car cabin. I took my car to mercedes benz of south charlotte, charlotte, nc. On 3/13/2013.the service advisor([xxx]) told me it was the fuel sending unit that was bad...there was also fuel leak in my garage...the dealership told me they would have to replace the sending unit and the whole gas tank....that would cost $3750.00.the dealership also said ths was a common problem with the e350... And they don't know why there isn't a recall on these.i am asking you to please investigate and pertition mercedes usa to do a recall. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Strong fuel smell when filling up.have noticed many complaints about this and an extended warranty.mercedes in an online chat said my vehicle was not included but everything i am reading says it should be. Not sure how to pursue this.

My 2007 mercedes benz e350, began to smell of fuel on the inside after a fill up.i took the vehicle in to find out what the issue might be and was informed that the fuel sending unit was not operating properly.the vehicle was repaired, however, the smell of fuel still lingers in the vehicle.i have left the windows down for days at a time month after month.i went an obtained some industrial strength aerosol and the smell still has not totally left the vehicle to date.

The gear shift keep getting stuck. The car revs and doesn't change gear when driving it stays in the first gear. Then when it does changes the gear skips, causing a jolt in the car.brought it to the shop and was told that it's a default sensor that's not picking up, causing it to skip. Two separate shops and they told me to make this complaint. I've called the number on this site months ago, made a complaint and still nothing. I've seen quite a bit of complaint on this matter on this site, yet no change. This can be very dangerous because the car stalls which endanger the operator of the vehicle, passengers, and other motorist on the road. This can cause an accident. I'll use today's date because i don't remember the specific date i called before.very dangerous

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor in the vehicle and it experienced a complete loss of power. The contact stated that the vehicle could not be restarted. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.

Strong gas fumes inside the car. Started smelling it after 100,000

I can smell gas fumes and my fuel pump failed in my 2007 mercedes e350.while mercedes extended the warranty on the fuel tank / pumps for the e series, non-pzev, i have been advised that my car has pzev emissions and i am not covered.the non-pzev cars received a 15 year extended warranty with unlimited mileage.the pzev cars have mileage capped at 150k.the resolution mercedes provided to the nhtsa was misleading since they did not provide a resolution for all of the cars with fuel tank / pump issues.

Nhtsa action# pe12001 strong fuel/gasoline odor smell coming from the drivers side rear wheel area.fuel tank is filled to full (after it "clicks" off) and this is when the odor is most prevalent.the e350 is parked in a single, detached house's 2-car garage.fuel/gasoline smell is particularly strong in the enclosed 2-car garage.i am afraid the these vapors will ignite when in an enclosed space with the furnace in the sharing the same space (being that it is winter time now and the furnace is now kicking on to heat my house).

Filled gas in car up to full and have had a strong smell of gas inside and outside of my car. I always fill the car only up to a half of a tank but with the holiday weekend coming i filled all the way up since gas was cheaper. Never had this problem until i filled it all the way up. After looking this up on the internet i found this site and wanted to give my experience so hopefully this problem will be resolved by mercedes benz. Its sad that it will take someone dying or a major fire to have mercedes actually look into this situation.

Every time i fill up my car i get a strong gas smell inside and outside the car. It also leaks gas on the driver side on my driveway at home or where i drive and park for about the first 50 miles. The way i have learned to avoid the gas smell is i only fill the tank up to 3/4.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes e350. When entering the vehicle, the contact stated the vehicle emitted a strong gasoline odor. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

I purchased this vehicle new in oct. 2006.on nov. 7, 2012 with 19600 miles i filled the gas tank full of fuel and noticed immediately inside cabin, trunk, and outside of the vehicle was a strong fuel smell beyond belief!after several days of this issue i researched to find out there are many problems from other owners with this exact same problem. After reviewing there issues i started my own investigation and after removing my back seat; i found that fuel is leaking from the fuel system inside the cabin of vehicle.i am so disappointed and highly concerned for my safety as well as other innocent driver's around me that a sudden spark may ignite my vehicle on fire and cause a mass explosion while driving.please with all these current issues find mbusa responsible.i have given mbusa years of loyalty in owning three of there vehicles.we as consumers deserve better from a company with their values and history.

Strong gas smell especially when parked and after fueling.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. While driving 75 mph on the highway, the vehicle ran out of fuel and shut off. The dealer diagnosed that the fuel pump was faulty. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 116,000.

Fuel is leaking from tank after fillup on left side near left rear tire.first noticed fuel gauge not working when i ran out of gas at 51,000 miles in 2011. Dealer told me gauge was located inside tank and it would be necessary to replace tank at cost of $2,000 w/o warranty,so i did not fix it; just used odometer.we have noticed gas fumes in garage for a long time, but thought it was from the gas engines of yard tools.after a fill up 2 days ago, we noticed a very strong odor next to car and investigated and noticed signs of liquids on parts of undercarriage of vehicle.did an internet search and found this is a known problem with this vehicle.present mileage is 87,000.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. After the vehicle was refueled and driving at various speeds, a fuel odor emitted from the vehicle without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 36,000.

Car smells of gasoline inside and out when stop and especially after filluptold "o" ring of gasoline sensor has failed--common problem!!!!!!!!!!!

Fuel is leaking from top of fuel tank when tank is full, causing odor inside of cabin, and fuel to drip onto ground.

After i filled up my gas tank and came home and parked my car in the garage.after a few hours i smell strong gas smell.when i researched mbworld, i saw many people having the same / similar issue, and mercedes benz had extended the warranty to 15 years towards fuel leak issues.there were many articles on the forum.when i called my dealer, he said that i there are no recalls on it.how do i resolve this issue?

Tank leaks gas when filled .fuel link has not been repaired at this time.mercedes will not warranty.

I have a 2007 mercedes e350. I filled up the gas tank and the next morning, after storing the car in my garage, there was a strong odor of gas in the garage.i started to google this to see if anyone has had the same problem.i noticed that other car other had been having this same issue.some reported gas tank leaks among other issues such as vent valves among other things. I did not do anything about my issue thinking that it was nothing, but since april 2012, after fill ups, the same thing would happen.the odor would go away once 1/4 to 1/2 of the tank of gas was used.today, january 2013, i looked under the car, driver side and noticed that the gas tank was wet from gas leak. I am surprised and disappointed that this vehicle would have this kind of issues and the manufacturer has not addressed this issue, since it appears that other owners have experienced the same problems. I hope that this issued can be addressed by the nhtsa and help owners as this is a hazardous safety issue as there could be some serious consequences and injuries if not addressed.

Purchased car on 2/12/2013.filled car up with gas for the first time on saturday 3/23/2013.garage and car smell like gas so bad it actually entered my home and i had to leave the garage door open to ventilate.went on line and found that there are some law suits against mercedes for this defect and they are replacing the gas tanks with still defected gas tanks and charging clients for them.

Fuel smell in car. Possible fuel leak.

My car is having a extremely strong gasoline smell inside and outside of my car after i fill up the car. I have not seen any gasoline leak on the ground. But the smell inside and around the car is getting worse as time goes by and now i am afraid to park the car in the garage. I started noticing the smell 8-10 months ago and it has been getting worse after fill up. The smell is noticeable after the the tank is half empty. This is a serious risk that needs to be addressed by mercedes benz. Mostly i smell the gas when the car is parked. The rear seat passengers have complained about the strong smell when the car is moving as well.

When filling up my gas tank i noticed a very strong odor of gasoline. Was very concerned that if someone nearby had been smoking fumes would have ignited. Also if traveling on the highway if someone had thrown out a lit cigarette who knows what would happen. I called the mercedes stealership and they said it's my problem to fix it. I recently read about a recall for the same issue on 2010 and 2011 mercedes...this is the same problem!! look at the complaints filed here for the same issue......wake up nhtsa and include these models. Does a car need to blow up first???

While driving the vehicle on the highway, the engine suddenly lost power, making the vehicle difficult to control while navigating to the shoulder.the engine then stalled and would not start.vehicle was towed 120 miles to nearest dealer where they replaced the fuel pump and related parts, which fixed the problem, including the following:about two weeks prior to this, another dealership had worked on the car due to intermittent difficult starting.they were unable to duplicate the problem, but did replace fuel filter and related parts.all repairs were out out of pocket expenses.since then, mercedes-benz sent a letter notifying that the warranty had been extended on fuel tank components.the letter included instructions on how to place a claim for prior expenses that are now covered under this extended warranty.a claim for reimbursement of the repair charges incurred at both dealerships was submitted to mercedes.mercedes subsequently approved the claim, and i received reimbursement for the work done at the first dealership. When i approached the second dealership for reimbursement for the work that actually fixed the car, they denied my claim, even though my claim was already approved by mercedes.after many email communications, the customer service representative sent a final letter on december, 2017 declaring the case closed.looking forward to any help you can provide in this matter.

Strong odor of gasoline after refueling.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. The contact smelled a fuel odor while driving the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, but a failure was not found. Recently, the contact was unable to start the vehicle and had it towed to the same independent mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed that the fuel pump was defective and the entire fuel tank would need to be replaced in order to repair the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not under warranty. The vehicle had not been repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 130,000.

Strong smell of gasoline in the cabin after fueling vehicle.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e-350. While parked, the contact noticed a strong fuel odor inside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The technician stated that there was a fuel leak in the rear seat of the vehicle where the electronic wiring and fuel sending unit was located. The technician stated that the fuel tank and fuel pump would have to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.

When i fuel the car to full, there is the high odor of fuel. Only when the car is full, i can smell the odor of gas. The vehicle is stationary, in the garage.

After filling my tank, the smell of gasoline fumes, overtake the inside of the car and fumes vapors outside and around the vehicle until the gas gauge is reduced below full.the vapors and fumes are so bad that the garage and car emits the odors for weeks afterwards.i took the car to a mechanic and was told there is a crack in the "neck" of the fuel tank and mercedes is aware ofthe problem.est costs to repair is around $2500.

Gas fumes inside car when parked.

After filling gas tank, strong smell of gas in garage, especially around the rear of the vehicle, as if there was fuel overflow, but there was no fuel overflow at the filling station - did not top-off tank, stopped at first shut-off.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. After the contact filled up the vehicle with fuel, the odor of fuel was present inside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer (walters mercedes-benz, 3213 adams auto center dr., riverside, ca) where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank and fuel pump were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 150,000.

I have a strong smell of gasoline outside car when gas tank is full or nearly full.i've asked mercedes benz to repair under warranty based on nhtsa action number ea13003, but they are refusing, saying my car is not included, when it clearly should be.

Noticed that whenever i filled up my tank i smell gasoline inside the vehicle. This always happened anytime i fill my tank.

This report is an additional inspection report for odi number 10745880 on 07/28/2015 and 10855318. It is an identical fire incident that i attach an inspection report for your further investigatio, mercedes benz may have to make a recall to replace fuel hose for the public safety with these repeated incidents.

Smelling strong gasoline insideand outside car after running the vehicle, why doesn't recall no. 2008020001 apply to my vehicle, esp warning light come on and gear-shift got stuck,i can't shift to other gear from park position.

Strong gas smell when tank is filled all the way. This smell is prominent both when stationary or moving. The smell goes away when the tank is 3/4 full or less. Gas has leaked from under the rear seat on occasion.the smell fills up the interior of car as well as outside. Makes my whole garage wreak of gas and feels very unsafe.

After purchasing this car in may 2011 from a used car dealer, after every refueling with filling the tank there was a powerful smell of gasoline as if it had been spilled. Going forward we tried to only partially fill the tank which seemed to take care of the problem for awhile. As time went on the odor continued to increase so in 8/2014 we took to our regular mechanic to fix. He replaced the gasket and still the gas smell continued.02/2015 took car to mercedes where i was told based on my vin that the fuel tank replacement was covered under an "extended warranty" that mercedes benz had offered. However, once the car was reviewed they then stated that this warranty was only for "plastic tanks" which mine was not and the cost to replace would be $2600 which was with a discount!it is clearly a problem that is not unknown to mb, but still no help. Car should have recalls related to this problem.

There is a strong smell of gasoline when vehicle is parked. Took it to the dealer and they indicated there is not a recall for this issue and the tank should be replaced.researched this and found there are several complaints for this issue that have been lodged.the average benz owner parks their car in the garage.the average homeowner has a gas water heater located in the garage.this is an open flame and gasoline connection which can result in an explosion.

I found leaking liquid close to the rear left wheel and when lifting the rear wheel i found leaking liquidfrom the tank. After smelling and touching i realize is gasoline . I check in the internet for similar problemsand i found a lot of same complaints.

When gas tank is filled there is a very strong gas smell.the fumes fill up the whole garage and can be smelled while driving.once fuel is down to 3/4 tank the smell goes away.dealer says my car is pzev and therefore does not qualify for action pe12001.they say my vehicle is exempt from the warranty extension afforded all other cars in its class.looking for recourse as my mechanic says the fuel system is identical in the pzev and non pzev vehicles.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor coming from the vehicle. There were no warning indicators illuminated. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new fuel tank. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 139,462.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benze350. The contact noticed an abnormal odor of fuel inside the vehicle after filling the tank with fuel. Also, the check engine warning indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to mercedes-benz of bakersfield (5600 gasoline alley dr, bakersfield, ca 93313, (661) 536-5588) where it was determined that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 120,000. The vin was unknown.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. After refueling the vehicle, there was a strong odor of fuel inside the cabin. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the fuel sending unit failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 86,000.

Mine is a 90000 mile vehicle showing normal wear, no abuse or no accidents, diagnosed with leaky fuel tank.just spent $900 on fuel pump, sender and pressure sensor-all of which was to fix strong gas odor.repairs did not abate the strong gas odor when tank is full.independent mercedes mechanic then diagnosed as leaky tank and stated that repairs would be about $1500.his parts man said that the part number on the fuel tanks had changed three times-indicating that he thought that mercedes was trying different fixes. Mechanic also said that his shop has diagnosed/fixed several other with same problem.gas odor is so strong that i believe that a tossed cigarette would ignite my mercedes.mechanic says that the tank issome form of "plastic" and not metal.

I have been reading all fuel related complaints regarding my vehicle and its overwhelming the amount of complaints over the same thing. I have a gas odor in rear left side of vehicle after i feel my car. My certified mercedes mechanic inspected the rear seat are and notice fuel at the sending unit on top of tank. Mercedes benz says my vin is not part of the extended warranty but yet i have the exact same problem that those non pzev vehicles. Is there some kind of ruling or agreement says mercedes needs to resolve this problem??

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. While the vehicle was stationary, the fuel system failed. When the contact filled the fuel tank, fuel entered into the cabin of the vehicle. Also, the vehicle failed to start after the fuel tank was filled. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel pump failed. Dick dyer & associates (5825 two notch columbia rd, south carolina 29223, (803) 786-8888) was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact referenced tsb number: p-47-10-63. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. *dt updated 12/06/18

We purchased this vehicle used from a mercedes dealer 5 weeks ago. After the first couple gas refills i noticed that the car had a strong gas smell around it. Just standing next to the car, i could smell gas. It seemed wrong. At first i figured it was just because i was at the gas station. But then i realized the car also smelled of gas at home. When the car sits overnight or for longer periods, the interior noticeably smells like gas upon opening the door. Having owned a lot of cars i knew this wasn't right. I did an internet search to see if this was some sort of known issue. Of course a lot of information popped up as far as other people having this issue and a class action lawsuit.i called the dealer to see if mb was fixing this unofficially or anything along those lines. The service manager pleaded ignorance. He stated he had never heard of such a thing, couldn't imagine it was true or that there would be such a problem. He didn't sound very convincing.now we have a 'new' car that leaks gas.i don't know what to say beyond that. I'm still too disappointed and stunned at this situation.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350.on june 25, 2007, while idling at a red light, the contact's child pulled the handle and opened the rear passenger side door.the dealer stated that the doors do not have a child safety locking mechanism.the current mileage was 1,000 and failure mileage was 600.

The check engine light came on and the engine started making a "clicking" noise.i took the car to the mercedes dealership and they said that the balance shaft gear was completely deteriorated.they described the gear as "chewed up"!i had no choice but to pay $4,000.00 to get the engine removed from my car and have the balance shaft replaced.

The engine dies suddenly while driving.cause unknown.car will restart without trouble, but the suddenness of the problem is really startling and could be very dangerous on the freeway or on a winding road at speed.

I bought this car about 4 months ago.this car has been serviced religiously at the local mercedes dealer and there has been "no know problems".on a thursday i noticed the car shifting a little funny so i had my husband drive it just to be sure.he noticed the same erratic shifting.on saturday i dropped the car off at the mercedes dealer (same dealer it has always been serviced at).when i parked the car i wanted to check each gear just to make sure and what do you know...it would not shift into reverse.later that day i had to call mercedes to find out what was going on with the car and they proceeded to tell me the car had metal shavings in the transmission pan and would need a new transmission.the quote for a new transmission is $5800!!!i don't understand how the car did not give me any warning nor an indicator light.the car only has 60k miles on it and in no way should need a new transmission.also, keep in mind the transmission was serviced at this same mercedes dealer at 39k miles.something is not right and i want answers.i am completely shocked and so upset.

In 2011, i purchased my vehicle from a dealership as certified/preowned at 46,717 miles. Regular maintenance was kept up at the dealership. In 2015 at 74,563 miles, i brought my vehicle in for 2 problems: a check engine light had come "on" and my vehicle was experiencing vibrations from the power train when turning and shuddering when making sharp turns at low speeds. The check engine light was a result of a balance shaft engine problem which was, at the time, in a class action suit regarding this problem for these vehicles. The manufacturer agreed to pay a portion of my repair for the balance shaft issue. The second problem turned out to be a transfer case issue. The dealershipstated i had a bad transfer case and they recommended i have the transfer case replaced. At the time, i could only budget myself for the balance shaft repair and 4 new tires. The transfer case oil was changed which slightly improved the vibration/shuddering issue. I currently still have this issue more severely and require the transfer case be replaced. My vehicle's transfer case oil was changed at 30k miles by the previous owner. Through research, i have discovered that in january 2009, a manufacturer bulletin came out that specified my vehicles vin number was included in the stated problems with the transfer case. They had installed defective transfer cases at production in 2007 and should remedy this! i have spoken to the manufacturer and they will only pay 25% of my parts for this repair which leaves me with a $3200 bill for a problem they knew about. On many occasions, while waiting for my vehicle to have maintenance completed, i over heard service representatives speaking to other customers by phone or in person. The service reps indicated in many instances that the problem the customer was having with their vehicle was due to the transfer case. These transfer cases should be recalled!

While entering the freeway, the transmission disengaged and failed. The vehicle was steered to the shoulder. The dash lights all changed to red and the transmission would not engage. After shutting off the engine and restarting the vehicle, it performed normally until last week. The same failure occurred three times last week. After restarting the engine the car was taken to the closest non-dealer service center and a reset of the transmission speed sensor was performed electronically. I was advised that this is a common problem with model and that i would need a new set of valves, sensors, seals etc.

The front inner tires get cupping over the time, i have to replace them every 10,000 miles. All the suspension parts are new put still the problem going on.it is a manufacturing problem with the heavy engine get the load on the power train and with the time it losing and make the tires cupping from the inner side.

Transmission does not downshift when you try to stop, it chokes and dies. Transmission is stuck on the 3 gear and does not downshift.

At about 87,000 miles, the car is essentially useless because of a known defect. The balance shaft, engine intake manifold and transmission conductor plate need to be replaced. Mercedes will not take responsibility even though there was a class action lawsuit.

The automatic transmission would not shift properly. Very dangerous. It is a seven speed automatic transmission but seemed to stay in a high gear so the vehicle did not accelerate. It would not go into reverse. It occurred on a major highway. The me dealer said the repair will be about $2300 this should be a recall. Safety hazard.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that the vehicle would jerk violently when shifting gears. Also, while driving 20 mph the vehicle would not shift into second gear and stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection but they provided not assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and filed a complaint and stating that the vehicle was not under warranty. The failure mileage was 113,000.

Transmission. It is my understanding that this year and model car has known transmission problems.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350.when attempting to drive the vehicle, it seems as if the transmission does not engage into the proper gear.as a result, the contact is unable to drive the vehicle.when the failure occurs, she usually hears a loud winding noise.she took the vehicle to the dealer on four occasions and they reprogrammed the pcm and added transmission fluid.all the repairs have not sufficiently corrected the failure.the contact is currently waiting for a response from the manufacturer.the failure mileage was 600 and current mileage was 8,416. Updated 02/05/09 the transmission jerked into gear at times and other times it would not shift. Updated 02/06/09.

When accelerating from a stop light, the car would not shift gears automatically.the car seems to be stuck in 1st gear or neutral as i could not get past 20mph without maxing out my rpm's.i had to drive 3 miles going 20mph to get somewhere so i could get towed.after towed to the dealership, they could not replicate the situation.this has happened twice within a week's time.this is a mercedes 2007 e350.i have seen other posts about this exact same thing with no solution.the dealership said to pull over and restart the car.what!!!what kind of fix is that?i do that to my home pc...i shouldn't have to do that for my car!i bought this car less than 30 days ago...and the dealership doesn't seem to want any part of it.i haven't even made the first payment or received my permanent tags yet.

No warning of any kind, nor any event of any kind.one minute, everything is fine. The next, the transmission fails.transmission failure has happened 3 times in the past 10 months. Car is a 2007 mercedes.on all 3 occasions, i was driving on multiple lane interstate. One 2 of the incidents, the car suddenly went out of the drive gear into what felt like neutral.it stayed there for 10 or 15 seconds and then resumed in drive on it's own.possible consequences of very serious accident. On the 3rd incident, i was at a stoplight and when starting on the green light, the car would not come out of 1st gear.just dropped car off today for this and don't know results yet.what was done to correct:on both of the first 2 occasions, software was updated.there were other things done which bizarrely somehow relate to the transmission.i have no parts.i believe i do have the service sheet from both of the earlier incidents.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. While driving 20 mph with the gear indicator in drive, the vehicle was moving as if it was in low gear. The contact shut off engine in order to reset the gears. The dealer repaired the electric hydraulic control unit and 10 minor parts in the transmission. When the failure recurred, the dealer was unable to diagnose or duplicate the failure. The failure has occurred 2 times. The manufacturer was contacted and didn't provide a solution to the failure. The failure mileage was 29,700 and the current mileage was 30,100.

Front passenger seat belt buckle plastic encasement is broken.the belt works, but the 2 pieces of plastic where the belt clips into, will not stay together.see pictures.i brought this to the dealer to be repaired, but they cannot do it without replacing the entire seat belt assembly.this cost is estimated at $500.see document concern and estimate pages attached.

The purpose of this is to alert you of a safety hazard / product defect of the seatbelt buckle in the 2007 mercedes benz e350 4matic wagon (?mb e350 wagon?).i have sent a similar letter to mercedes benz reporting the situation. On august 7, 2015 while riding in the front passenger seat of an mb e350 wagon, i placed my left hand on the left side of my seat near the seatbelt buckle, as leverage in order to adjust my sitting position.as i shifted my position, the seatbelt moved through the inserting (top) part of the buckle, and in the process severely and painfully pinched the skin on the inside of my left forearm.although the seatbelt buckle ?let go? of my skin it caused a serious contusion:within seconds of the incident, a painful, 2-3inch long, raised/swollen contusion developed on my forearm.the contusion quickly turned very dark red as the blood continued to pool under my skin.thinking this was a one off occurrence, few minutes later, i once more attempted to shift my sitting position in the same manner as above, only to suffer the exact same injury again.the seatbelt buckle caused injury to a smaller area but this time it slightly broke the skin.again,a painful dark red swollen contusion developed immediately.(on 9.22.2015 i mailed a letter to the nhtsa with 4 pictures of my forearm for your reference. Pic #1-3 were taken immediately following the injuries and pict #4 was taken several days later.both injuries were very painful when they occurred and my arm as quite sore for several days later.) following my injuries, i asked my friends and family if they had experienced the same injury caused by the seatbelt buckle, and several of them had.i do not wish to speculate how severe the injuries would be if this occurs to an elderly individual whose skin is often more delicate.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated the drivers seat emitted a burning odor, and the contact noticed that it had a hole in it. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer, but the contact stated the failure was caused by defective wires. The contact sustained a burn on the left leg. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and the current mileage was 64,160.

I have had multiple problems with my vehicle, mainly with suspension and with the fuel system.i had them replace the fuel system in 3/13 and once again i am having problems with leakage in the fuel system.

I turned on the heated seats in my car and a strange burning smell filled the car. I immediately turned them off. When i got home and took my coat off there was a large burn whole on the back of my coat. I went and checked the seats and there was a large whole burned thru the seat in the same area as my coat was.i wasin motion when this happened

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes- benz e-350. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the driver's seat caught fire and a hold was burned in the seat. The contact was not injured. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 47,000.

Driving 25-30 mph and smoke started poring out from under the drivers seat after turning on the seat heater and a small burn hole appeared on the left side of the upper seat back. Major safety issue since the cabin of the vehicle filled with smoke. Took the car to the dealer where they had to order a new seat back and would not cover the repairs.

My husband was driving when he smelled something burning and then felt something burning, he pulled over and jumped out to check and found the seat warmer had malfunctioned and burned through the seat, his shirt and had slightly burned him.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated while driving 25 mph burning fumes were emitted into the vehicle. Once he stopped the vehicle, he realized that the drivers seat heater malfunctioned and burned a hole through the seat. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 38,000.updated 09/15/11*lj updated 2/23/12

Brakes did not catch like i pushed brakes all the way.i have to pump brakes 3-4 times before driving and when reversing they lock.i took it to a mechanic and the abs control module is not working now it needs to be replaced.i can't drive it since the brake lines hav eno brake fluid running through them.

2007 e-350 mercedes benz sedan 40,000 miles; had two brake failures: popping sound from brakes as if calipers stuck and released; brake pedal goes to floor. Little if any braking power; brakes generate excessive heat but then recover to normal.on both incidences (8/31 and 8/21) mechanic could not replicate despite multiple test drives (in shop 5 days) car now again garaged. Afraid to drive.mb not responsive.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes e350.the contact stated that the power steering disabled while the contact was driving.the dealer diagnosed that the power steering pump would need to be replaced.the manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 10v459000 (steering:hydraulic power assist:pump) recall.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure and current mileage was 32,000. The vin was unavailable.

Steering column would not lock and had a lot of play turning back and forth.when trying to restart on multiple occasions needed to turn wheel back and forth until the key would engage and start engine.no dtc codes for start issue.replaced eis costing $1,100 so can only hope this is the only problem. Vehicle only has 67,600 miles.

I recently purchased a brand new 07 sedan. Please contact me to disclose the automaker. Recently, while at a red light i noticed my 2 year old pulling up the lock nob and then the lever to open the rear door! i immediately stopped to engage the child proof lock on the rear door and could not find the lever. I called the dealer and then spoke with 3 sales people, 3 service people including service managers etc etc ... At 2 dealerships. They all told me different stories.1) of course it has the feature.2) we just have to find out how to activate it. Et etc etc..all were eventuallyshocked to find out that the car did not have it!!!! i called the us headquarters for the manufacturer and they tell me that they don't have such a feature and have never had it in any of their cars..! and i should discipline my child better.why are the dealerships than not aware of this and i actually had 2 service tech's look for the function all over my car the other day.i have a car that i cannot use to transport my children because of a fear they will open the rear door jump or cause a major accident on the road....this automaker should not be selling automobiles in this or any other country without having a feature that all other car makers have. I need your help to notify other parents and any other groups of this important information. The dealership would not take the car back and i am now using my wife's care solely for transporting my children and my brand new car is in the garage most of the time!!?

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350.on june 25, 2007, while idling at a red light, the contact's child pulled the handle and opened the rear passenger side door.the dealer stated that the doors do not have a child safety locking mechanism.the current mileage was 1,000 and failure mileage was 600.

Vehicle was driven at highway 54, mo on cruise control at 70mph. Next to eldon exit, on a straight part of the highway, all of sudden the front driver side spring broke with a very loud bang. After investigation, the spring broke at the first lower winding (the end of plastic cover, where it starts the second winding). At the broken location and only at that location, surface rust (30-40mm long) could be seen. The spring on the other side (passenger side) was okay but i could see that there is no paint (about 20mm long) at exact same location and it started to rust on a very small spot (1-3mm).

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. When the vehicle was parked for any length of time, the rear passenger side was low and a "too low" emergency indicator illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a mechanic and was not determined to be part included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v264000 (suspension). The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.

The vehicle involved was a 2007 mercedes benz e350. Premature wear on the inside corner of my tires. This was ultimately discovered on all four tires. This lead to belt separation on all tires and a lost of belting on the left front of the car that caused driver surprise that demanded a dramatic emergency stop. This exposed me to highway traffic and almost caused an accident while pulling over in a shocked and concerned state. These tires were recommended for my car by the retailer and met both the speed rating and performance required. However, i there appear to be a vehicle manufacturer defect with the alignment components. No tires appear to hold up to the challenging demands of this application. This failure is dangerous. Had it happened at night or on a wet surface, the consequences would have been much more severe. Note: this was on a car that was fully in alignment, with factory wheels and suspension. The car was driven only as a commuter. No racing or other extreme driving. I purchased the vehicle around 9/10/11 with fairly new tires.the 1st time this issued occurred to was with the two front tires around 12/15/2011.the 2nd time this issue happened was with the two rear tires around 4/13/12.i just replaced the two front tires (40k warranty tires) again with only 28k miles on them.the 3rd time, the same tire retailer informed me he could not replace my tires free because they were worn improperly on the inside like an alignment issue.i informed him that the car had an alignment about 10 months ago and the tires should not be down to the belts already.on 7/16/13, i had to buy new tires and another 4-wheel alignment.there is something wrong with the design or mechanical suspension issue.this is costly and not right.i think mb should investigate and recall to fix the manufacturer defect.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. While driving over bumps, the vehicle veered to the left or right independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

I have had multiple problems with my vehicle, mainly with suspension and with the fuel system.i had them replace the fuel system in 3/13 and once again i am having problems with leakage in the fuel system.

Mercedes recalled 100% of e350 wagon due to a faulty signal which could result in an unsafe suspension system. My mechanic today verified this signal failure while trying to diagnose a stiff unforgiving suspension in the rear axel. My calls to both mercedes and nhtsa show no open recall. Mercedes says it had not been previously fixed. Please include my vehicle in the 100% to which it belongs and recall it. It's really dubious when consumer has to do so much research and leg worki was about to spend thousands of dollars unjustifiable!! recall was on all wagons 2007-2009 mine is a 2007 wagon with the exact problem identified in the recall. What am i missing here?please contact me asap. I drive children to school daily on the freeway in this my only car. Thank you!

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350. While driving at an unknown speed, the rear of the vehicle felt unsteady. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and it was determined that the connecting rods for the rear suspension needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact of nhtsa campaign number: 12v264000 (suspension); however, the vehicle was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

My vehicle wears the insides of front and back tires. Have done wheel alignments, toe-ins and other remedies. The problem with this is that your tires wear down prematurely and the unsuspecting driver drives and the tires wear down to the threads and explodes. This is because they did not expect their tires to last half or less of the thread life due to this unusual wear, and no one can figure out why this is happening. Also, because of the area that it wears the average person would not even notice it. Vehicles going highway speeds (55-70 mph) could have blowouts and kill themselves and others on the road.

2007 mercedes benz e350.consumer writes in regards to defective tires on vehicle.the consumer stated the front tires were replaced on december 1, 2011. He found an air bubble on one of the tires on april 16, 2013. The consumer stated the repair shop filed a claim with the manufacturer, because the tire was still under warranty. However, they did so without specifying the true reason for the claim, which was an air bubble. The claim was not for wear and tear, as indicated on the invoice. The consumer is seeking reimbursement, due to the tire being defective.

On wedesday, august 14, 2019 at 11:50 am, the sunroof spontaneously and explosively shattered while driving straight at about 40 mph on a smooth county road near oldwick, nj. There was no evidence of impact by any projectile and there were no trees or buildings along the road. The outside temperature was about 80 degrees f. The sunroof was tilted open at time and had been in that position since the drive started about 10 minutes earlier. Shards of glass fell into the car interior and onto me (the driver), presenting a danger of personal injury and loss of control of the vehicle.

Talara recall. Purchased this vehicle about 4 months ago, and now having problems with it. The engine stalls when driving and check engine light comes on. Vehicle stays in first gear and doesn't go to 2nd. Only the rpm

2007 e350 has strong fuel odor after filling tank. After 3/4 of a tank then fuel smell dissipates. Reference #12-001. Also has been an issue with other mercedes benz e class of different years.

From the time it was only 1 year old, the climate control system began repeatedly to fail.some of the repairs done under warranty, but we have now spent over $3,400.00 on new a/c compressors (twice), the evaporator (also twice) and various and sundry leak detections and recharges.failures have occurred on start-up as well as at highway speeds. I have read through this model's defect records and found little if any mention of the climate control.perhaps part of the reason may be that the a/c system isn't included among the choices in the complaints list.then again, the issue may be unique to my specific vehicle.in any case, i wanted it on record as a recurrent issue.perhaps the climate control, and its impact on visibility and therefore safety, should be added to the list of options.

Transmission does not downshift when you try to stop, it chokes and dies. Transmission is stuck on the 3 gear and does not downshift.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that while at a stop light and attempting to open the sunroof, one side of the sunroof with a fractured seal caved in. The contact stated that the glass was not cracked. The contact performed a vin search and became aware that the vin was included in nhtsa campaign number: 19v918000 (visibility). New country mercedes-benz located at 1 weston st, hartford, ct 06120, 860-278-2000, was contacted and confirmed the part was not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 132,000. Vin tool confirms parts not available.

When positioning the sunroof switch to close, the roof retracted about 75% of the way and then opened all the way once again. Hitting the switch again to close it caused the roof to go back and forth, while not closing at all. After ~1 minute or so it finally closed.

4 bent wheels with no major accident or pot hole run over. Cost a lot to fix, put wear on my tires. Should not have such weak wheels on a car. All of them were bent.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes benz e350.while driving 50 mph, the contact felt an unusual vibration in the wheels.he took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that all four wheels were bent at the inside rim due to driving over potholes and railroad tracks.all four wheels and rims needed to be replaced.the manufacturer refused to assist with any repairs.the powertrain was unknown.the current mileage was 14,000 and failure mileage was 12,789.updated 04/23/08.*lj

After normal driving, a slight shake occurred around 80,000 miles. I took it into the shop and they reported 4 bent rims (2 being dangerously bad). I had the wheels straightened, and i found out the previous owner had one wheel welded, so this issue was present before i bought the car. While doing research online, there are hundreds of wheel complaints, particularly on the e-class. Because there are so many variations of the model, i believe that nhtsa is overlooking the issue because of the way complaints are entered by exact model (even though the wheels they use is the same across).
