Srs light stays on. Scanned system and got a code 9103. Found there was a tsb issued by mercedes for a wiring problem and harness repair for this model.i don't think i should have to pay the 6 hrs labor for this repair. It was their fault in making the wiring harness too short for a steering colum that moves in and out.

Dt*: the contact stated there was a strange odor like rotten eggs observed in the vehicle. While stopped and waiting for a parking space to open up, the engine revved and accelerated forward although the brakes were depressed.the speed at impact with the other vehicle was 40 mph. After the impact the ignition was turned off however the engine was racing and the front wheels were still spinning and smoking. The seatbelts were worn at the time of impact, but removed to exit the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed and the contact was sent to the hospital.

Side and curtain airbags deployed unexpectedly when stopping at traffic light. No impact.

The same day plate light, trunk remote opener stop working due to melted brown wire in the trunkdealer do not want to fix actually asked for 300 to check the problem . A lots of discussion is going on the web to solve but i could not .fuel smell in the garage often.

2006 mercedes benz model e350.strong fuel odor emanating from rear area (trunk) of vehicle on the outside. Car would not start and towed by aaa to mercedes benz dealership/car repair.aaa tow driver stated that the odor of gasoline was so strong he was tempted in calling the fire department.mercedes benz service representative informed us at first that car was full of water. Originally the mechanic claimed he found a pool of water inside the car's trunk. The service representative informed the technician of our complaint of a strong odor of fuel coming from both inside and outside the vehicle.it was at this time the technician stated that he found a heavy pool of fuel in the trunk area of the vehicle.they were unable to identify the source of the fuel leak. They changed the gasoline tank and fuel pump but were uncertain of the actual cause of the leak. The vehicle remained at the dealership for one week.mercedes benz service manager refused to acknowledge the fuel leak was caused by a factory defect and not by wear and tear of the parts and we were charged for all the repairs.we are aware that similar incidents have been reported for the same mercedes benz model in other states.we feel this needs to be addressed urgently before someone either gets hurt or loses their life.

The main wiring harness for the engine, lighting, fuel injection and rest of critical functions of the vehicle has disintegrated due to a manufacturing defect. The manufacturer has used an inferior and unsuitable insulation for the wires, which, is brittle, cracking and falling off exposing bare wires, creatingan extremely hazardous situation. The wire insulation deterioration is causing the wires to short and prevents the vehicle from functioning correctly. This is creating a serious safety hazard.(possible, fire in engine, etc). Due to the seriousness, i recommend the nationalhighway traffic safetyadministration order the manufacture to properly investigate and issue a safety recall. The manufacturer is aware of this widespread defect but refuses to order a recall. I purchased this vehicle new and operated it under normal conditions. The vehicle has been regularly serviced and maintained by mercedes benz authorized dealers since it was new. The vehicle has been well kept and maintained.your assistance would be greatly appreciated!thank you! My e350 is 6 years old and has 77000 miles. The electrical wiring for the signal lights has disintegrated exposing bare wires and causing wires to short-circuit creating an extremely hazardous situation that prevents the vehicle from functioning correctly.this is creating a serious safety hazard with possible fire in engine area.this problem is a manufacturing defect. Mercedes benz tells me that because my car is out of warranty i have to pay for the repair which is about $1000.00 dollars.the wire insulation should last a very long time if car is properly designed and this wiring problem should be corrected by the manufacture with no cost to the car owners.due to the seriousness of this problem i recommend the national highway traffic safety administration to order mercedes benz to investigate this problem and issue a safety recall. The manufacturer is aware of this widespread defect but refuses to order a recall.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Takata recall , oil leak ,electrical harness

I just was advised by my mercedes only independent garage that the on-going cel on my 2006 e350 (48000 miles) is for the camshaft wear mentioned in this lawsuit. The mechanic advises repair cost is $6200. He has the bulletin and has seen this issue in multiple cars. I will be complaining to the nhtsa and hoping nhtsa can recover my damages for this obvious and known defect.check engine lights star diagnosis indicated : code 1200 and 1208 ( p0016 and p0017) for mb e350 2006 48000 milmercedes has known about this problem since 2007 and has failed to notify any owners of the problem. Probably because the repair is so expensive ranging from $4,000-$8,000 and with most, the problem doesn't show up until after the warranty has expired. So it's a win-win situation for mercedes. I don't feel all warm and fuzzy inside because mercedes offered to put a little "goodwill cash" towards a repair that cost me thousands that they should have covered in full. And their 2 "rules" for qualifying for "goodwill assistance" for the repair has nothing to do with the repair. It's not preventable. If your vehicles falls between the serial numbers, your balance shaft will fail.on facebook specifically for the balance shaft you can get information and a number of vehicles affected. Http://www.facebook.com/groups/edit....please help me to resolve this issue!!![xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

I had my car maybe 2 months before i started having problems transmission firstthey said a transmission module was burned out and it had a recall i took it back several timesiwasn't notified of this issue but kept having it. (park place dallas)then i took it to austin they worked on it several times same issue now nov the issue was so bad i was going down the street 25 mph couldn't go any fasterand when they picked up the carthey said they couldn't find it but a solenoid switch had burned out i thought it was the heater they said it was a recall on this part also 3 weeks later burning again dragging again when drivingthey said the solenoid switch recalled again. They kept the car until 2/25/2008since christmas eve . I called corporate and they had a repwho contacted mercedes of georgetown ,tx their resolution was for me to pay another 15-20 thousand dollars and they would give me a new vehicle . I called an attorney who said they could switch vin numbers with my lender and replace this junk that i am driving. I came to mercedes looking for a dependable car gave them $20,000 down on a $58,000 carthinking that for at least 7 to 8 years for this price i would have a dependable carthis car is junk why must i continue to add on to my payment due to their messevery item recalled has been recalled at least 2 times it's also not fair they didn't notify other buyers what will they do when they no longer have warranties .

My check engine light is on so i took it to the mb dealer and they stated that it was a balance sensor located inside the engine and it cost $7000.00 to fix cause the entire engine has to be taken out, my car only has 70,000 miles and i have noticed that many people are complaining about this issue with theirmb cars as well. There are hundreds of people complaining about this problem with their benz and therfore there should have been some recall on it by now.

Submission for defective 2006 mercedes e-350 station wagon from plaza motors company.the consumers purchase station wagons because they often purchase items that cannot be carried in a sedan.the operator's manual gives direction as to how to lower the back seats to expand the cargo compartment.the problem is that when the rear seats were lowered the front passenger seat could not be slid back, using the controls on the side of the door, for an adult passenger to ride in the front seat.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who indicated that this was a design problem originating in germany.

Car will not start.the car is 8 months old and there is an electrical problem of sorts that will cause the radio to die, navigation system to die, phone on master panel to die and then power steering will be lost.within 12 hours of this happening the car will not start and the electronic key will not open the door as the entire car is dead. The mercedes dealership has checked out the car and replaced the entire master panel, and the instances still occur.they have performed many diagnostic tests over a 7 day period, and they still can not determine what the cause. The uncertainty and unreliability of the car makes it unnerving for a female traveling sales person.you just never know when you will get stuck.

Check engine light illuminated followed by another light indicating check oil level at next refueling.had vehicle immediately examined by mercedes benz dealer.engine oil level okay.no codes came up for oil sensor.car has 66,239 miles.was told by mbz dealer that balance shaft needs replacement due to sprocket failure (coming apart); gear is worn.needs $6,200 of repair. Called mercedes benz of north america who said that to date, no recalls or campaigns have been initiated for this complaint.car has been maintained according to mbz scheduled maintenance using mbz synthetic oil and mbz parts, if and when necessary.the internet is replete with complaints of this same type from all over u.s. And canada.

2006 mercedes benz e350cannot open the trunnk remotely or with the lever on the drivers door, both license plate lights and third brake light not working.

Car's (mercedes benz e350 sdn 2006) fuel gauge showed that the tank was half full.about ten minutes into the drive, the vehicle decelerated automatically from 65 mph to 0 mph. Police were called to prevent a pile on crash. Towed car to dealer who found that there was a gauge malfunction. Replaced gauge. Two months later, the very same problem recurs. Leads me to believe that the fuel gauge is unreliable can create a safety issue especially in freeway driving, the vehicle has been in the shop four times in the last three months to fix these issues.while fixing the sensors, the car had a distinct gasoline odor especially when tank was full. The dealer did a smoke test and concluded that the tank was leaking and had to be replaced.now, with a new tank, and new sensors for fuel supply, the exact same problem re-occurs. I am very concerned about the safety implications of a fuel gauge malfunction.please note that the fuel safety light in never triggered when the gauge malfunctions so the driver has no way of knowing that the gas is running out.updated 01/13/11 uddated 03/24/11

2006 mercedes benz e350w. Consumer states problem with license plate lights not working and third brake light stopped as well. Consumer was notified by dealer that this happens to vehicles with automatic trunk opening and closing *tgwthe dealer informed the consumer that the electric cable from the engine to the trunk could fail for unknown reasons.

While driving on us 50 my the sbc failed while driving 60mph i had no brakes the indicators told me to turn the vehicle off and to depress brakes fully. That's hard to do whn ur going 60mph... So i had to let the vehicle drift until it came to a stop on the side of the highway... Please get mb to correct this problem before someone loses their life... After this incident my check engine light came on had the vehicle diagnosed the independent mechanic said as a result of the engine revving so high when the breaks failed i got trouble codes p0016 and p0017.. Related to the balance shaft... The vehicle has not been serviced... Based on the price i was quoted in order to repair the vehicle i was told it will cost between 4 to $5.000 usd for repairs.

The engine of my car stalled suddenly, braking power was reduced dramatically. I was about to get into a serious crash but likely this happened in a local street at a traffic light when everyone was ready to slow down and stop. My dealer told me the engine stalled due to a broken vacuum intake manifold linkage which controls air in and out in the system. The only way to fix is to replace the entire manifold ($2100) and mercedes benz does not offer an extended warranty on this component. I was surprised with the quality of mb especially when i checked the internet to find out hundreds with the same incident and with many unpleasant customers. The broken intake manifold linkage is 100% design issue. My car has 107k miles, i had my extended warranty up until 100k, so i can't believe these 7k miles caused this linkage to be broken. It is a design issue (probably cheap plastic part that aged over time). Mb had several extended warranty on other major components such as: gas tank ($2,400) and sbc pump ($2,000) due to fatal incidents, so i am not sure how many people have to die in car crashes before mb offers this extended warranty. I can't believe i am saying this about mb quality, but just go online and you will find out more and more about these issues. The problem with this component is the fact that it is unpredictable because it depends on the position of these flabs (closed, semi opened, opened position). Which makes it scary to drive the car when you know that this may happen at any time and it could impact your life and the lives of your beloved ones and probably others who would be driving around you.

My car while i was driving on the street just shut down red flashing screen saying stop reduce breaking power start engine don't know it says this cause car don't have any power the gas peddle don't work the breaks didn't even good thing i was going slow in my area had to get car towed to my mechanic which they told me my air filters was clogged which i payed them to get new ones then i still wanted to find out why my car just shut down so took it to mercedes dealer in fort washington pa the check it out and said my breaks was wearing so i had to pay them 589.00 for front and back brakes sbc system they said is ok i am still scared of this car.

This vehicle is equipped with sensotronic brake control that has a service threshold. When this threshold is reached the brake system defaults to non power assisted hydraulic mode to the front wheels only. This occurs without any prior warning and results in increased stopping distance. I have sent a copy of the mercedes service bulletin s142.46-p-0012a which addresses this issue. Mercedes stopped installing this system in 2006. At the very least, mercedes should issue a mandatory recall to interrogate these vehicles with star das to determine how close to the service threshold the sbc unit is and replace them at the dealer's expense. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed.

While driving 70 on hwy, check engine light came on, so i immediately stopped and called a tow truck. Mechanic's diagnosis was that the tumble flap was broken in the air intake manifold.the only fix is replacing the entire manifold for $2000 plus labor, tax and gaskets.the flaps are small and could be an inexpensive fix but all dealerships that i called confirmed that the only fix available is to replace the entire air intake manifold.research tells me that this is a very common problem on this and many other models within the same years.

Purchased 2006 mercedes-benz e350 4matic with 47,851 miles on odometer from mattie imports, inc., fall river, ma on may 27, 2013. Automobile had approximately one-quarter of a tank of gasoline at purchase. Salesperson declined purchaser's request to "top-off" the gas tank prior to buyer leaving sellers lot. On may 28, 2013 buyer filled gas tank with fuel. Buyer immediately noticed a strong gasoline odor which continued after exiting fueling station. Odor progressed from exterior of automobile into automobile cabin. Buyer checked fuel tank filler cap and confirmed it was properly engaged. Buyer inspected the entire automobile for any leaking fluids and found none. The strong odor of gasoline persisted throughout the night while the automobile was parked in buyer's garage. Buyer left the garage door partially open and placed a fan in the opening and set the fan to exhaust in an effort to remove the strong fuel odor. The following morning the strong gasoline odor was still present. Buyer's 13 year old son was unable to withstand the odor and had to cover his nose and mouth while passing through buyer's garage. Buyer has experienced nausea and lightheadedness since being exposed to the odor. Upon research buyer learned that there exists and ongoing nhtsa investigation into this issue and a class-action lawsuit as well.

I need help with my crankshaft please i see a lot of people are having the same problem

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph, a warning message of 'restricting system manufacture' illuminated and 07:02 the vehicle lost all power. The contact lost control of the steering, and the brakes failed. As a result, the contact crashed into a wall at 8-10 mph, but did not sustained injuries. The vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normal however, the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was towed to the contacts residence. The contact called an unknown dealer and informed them of the failure and was provided with the number to nhtsa. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,663.

The contact owned a 2006 mercedes-benz e350w. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning and the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. As a result, the contact rear ended the preceding vehicle. The air bags deployed. There were no injuries. A police report was filed. The contact's vehicle was towed from the scene to mercedes-benz of ontario (3787 e guasti rd, ontario, ca 91761), but was not diagnosed. The contact's insurance company confirmed that the vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 143,000.

Po16, po17 needs to replace balanceshaft timing chain will cost 8-10k.engine will fail if not replaced .there is a notice on this.check engine light stays on.mercedes refuse to pay , cover cost when it is manufacturer defect.the engine should last longer.

Car had quarter tank when bought. Drove out gas and put about another quarter tank of gas in. Drove this out. Smelled no fumes. Filled tank up. Have smelled loud gas smell for 1 week now.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated the check engine light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who stated that the cam shaft was unbalanced and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 158,510.

Balance shaft manufacturing defect causes gear teeth to wear prematurely. This is a internal engine component.poor materials caused the camshaft sprocket teeth to wear out ? thus this isamanufacturing problem. Internal engine components like balance shaft sprockets are meant to last at least 150000 miles on mb cars ? thus they are difficult to replace & repairs so expensive.symptom starts with camshaft position related check engine light - repair costs $7000.this occurs for many many many cars with that m272 engine.this is a environmental and safety hazard.mercedes should be forced to do a recall.ref: http://mbworld.org/forums/e-class-w211/442004-dreaded-m272-balance-shaft.htmlref: http://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w203/376585-p0016-p0017-camshaft-position-sensor-location-please-help.html.

My 2006 mercedes benz 350 e series had gotten in a accident due to the car stalling out. I have a code reader and will provide the necessary pictures i took the day prior of the accident.

I went to a hardware store and parked the car in the store parking lot. About 10 minutes later somebody came in and asked me if i was driving a silver mercedes; i told him yes and he told me that it was on fire. When i got out of the store i saw my car's engine compartment on fire. By the time the fire department arrived on the scene the whole engine compartment had been gutted and the fire had spread to another car which was parked infront of mine.

Mercedes-benz v6m272 engines have timing chain problems caused by balance shaft failures which mercedes has known about for year. Faulty gears wear out prematurely, excessively, and without warning, causing the vehicle to malfunction, the 'check engine light' to remain illuminated, and the vehicle to misfire or stop driving.weak materials were used for the balance shaft sprockets and the timing chain guide, mercedes never contacted its owners about the defect which can cause the engine to halt and the car to stop mid-traffic. The check engine light comes on the vehicle at every start, throwing a p0016 and p0017 trouble code, which returns even after clearing and restart. After going to several mechanics, all have noted that the balance shaft (within the engine) requires repair an issue mercedes has know about for several years, and had even issued its mechanics with service bulletins (april 23, 2009, see attached), but has never notified its car owners of the hazardous driving during any of its service at the dealership or has not notified with any other communication. Engines with serial numbers lower than m272 engine serial no. 2729..30 468993 have the defective parts at manufacture, which is affecting my mercedes vehicle.

Timing belt sprocket lost teeth on it due to it not being strong enough dealer need to replace this part since it part of engine this part should not be giving it like this

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e-350. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle jerked and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the cam shaft needed to be rebuilt. The manufactured was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage and current mileage was 64,000.

2006 mercedes ml350 balance shaft - class action lawsuit - defective. Went into low gear while running. Will not come back to normal. Code from diagnosis states the problem as timing chain. Mercedes states " maybe fixed in good faith" . Bad balance shaft from factory. Many problems with this defective part. But we need money up front to fix which we don't have. From mercedes repair shop.

After refueling, i noticed a strong odor of gasoline in the garage where i park my car.after driving the vehicle a few miles and parking in the garage, the odor was no longer there.i started noticing a pattern that whenever i refueled the vehicle, there was a strong odor of gasoline in the garage that dissipated once the vehicle was driven a few miles.right after i started noticing the gas smell, the vehicle check engine light came on.i recently had the vehicle checked by an authorized mercedes benz service center who stated gas tank has crack at the top and is leaking fuel. The entire tank and all the components will need to be replaced at $3,000. I mentioned that there are a lot of other vehicles with this problem and a couple of class action lawsuits and it appears that the vehicle's gas tank is defective.the service technician refused to repair the components under any campaign or recall.

I arrived home after driving 2 miles from work and when i stopped i saw smoke coming from the engine.i turned off the car and opened the hood.the smoke would almost stop and then become thick again, in cycles of about 1 minute.the smoke was coming from the cooling fan.after several cycles it burst into flames.fortunately we were ready with a fire extinguisher and put the fire out right away.the fuse, which i believe should have popped and stopped the cycling of the fan, never did blow.i bought my car used but it only has 50,000 miles on it.all information in the carfax indicates it was maintained. I didn't take pictures of the fire.

Strong fuel smell coming from the outside of vehicle

I have a benz e350 2006 with 60k miles. My check engine light went on and i was told it was the balance shaft gear problem. Mercedes-benz had a class action lawsuit complaint filed for this issue for some of their cars with this problem as well as faulty engines & idle gears. There are more than 100000 cars from 2005 to 2007 model years with this problem and they managed to get away without issuing a recall. What surprises me is even with the class action suit, they pay only 30% of the repair cost. Dealership estimate for this repair is $7500.they have to remove the entire engine/motor and open it up to replace the small part.http://www.classactionrebates.com/settlements/mercedes_engine/you are a member of this class action if you purchased or leased mercedes-benz vehicles in the united states that are model years 2005-2007 equipped with m272 (v6) or m273 (v8) engines bearing serial numbers up to 2729..30 468993 or 2739 ..30 088611, respectively.you can verify your serial number by checking your past repair orders. Class members may also enter the vehicle identification number (vin) on the settlement website to see if their vehicle qualifies for benefits from this mercedes class action settl i now have to replace the balance shift gears so my car will pass emissions inspection. Mercedes benzis not worth buying. Mercedes benz needs to be responsible for faulty equipment. Mercedes benz does not have the reputation it used to have.

I have check engine light on, nobody "mechanic" know to fix this problem.i have codes:1-p00162-p0017 3-p21954-p21985-p01716-p0174

Balance shift worned

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz e350. While driving approximately 45 to 50 mph, the vehicle approached a ramp and applied the brakes. Messages on the instrument panel illuminated that read "reduced brake pressure and depress brake fully", "traction control", "abs", and "check engine lights". In addition, the steering wheel locked up when the brakes were applied. The vehicle was pulled over, turned off, restarted, and driven home. The failure recurred. The vehicle was driven to a mechanic who diagnosed that the transmission and engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 129,000.

Takata recall.abs malfunction,brake sensor

The engine light indicator came on and was checked at the dearlership and showed to replace shaft.it seemed a lot of problems with same indication.cost to repair was quoted at $5,500.

I am reporting a very serious, disturbing, shocking and tragic accident on 9/12/2015 on randall road in elgin, il usa at 2:35 pm just after big timber road signal.my southbound 2006 mercedes benz e350 car was hit by the high speed out of control northbound 2014 toyota corolla, which had crossed/swerved the center line and resulted ina head on collision/crash.....updated 10-27-15

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz e350. While driving 5 mph, the vehicle stalled and the stop braking system warning indicator illuminated and flashed. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken to a local mercedes-benz dealer (located at 404 pennsylvania in pa 19034 866-383-0881) where it was diagnosed, but the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer regarding the spc pump. The failure mileage was 101,000.

Regardless of vehicle movement gas leak from fuel tank located under back seat above exhaust system. Constant gas smell, and fuel gauge always jumping up and down again regardless of motion. Check engine lights indicate faulty coolant temperature sensor, and faulty fuel level sensor. Dealership is refusing to cover tank assembly replacement under pzev warranty of 15yrs / 150,000 miles in state of california. Vehicle is 2006, with 109k miles. Documentation of trouble codes not available at time of reporting, but can be provided upon future request. Fuel runs down the side of the tank narrowly missing the exhaust, potential fire hazard.

About a year ago (may 2013) we noticed gas smell in the compartment of the car. Initially it was sporadic. We thought it was from outside of the car or may be under the car, or gas tank cap was not tightened properly. After i took my car to mercedes benz dealership on 9/6/13, i found out that the smell was not from either of the above scenarios. It was indeed from inside the cabin and the mercedes benz technician told me that it was from fuel leakage under the back seat and it would cost $1380 to fix it. Additionally he said that he had seen numerous cases like mine, and some were so bad that they would not be able to drive it in, and had to tow the car in. Because of the high cost in addition to the other repairs that i had to do worth $1,200, i decided to delay this repair. Now we can not even drive the car because of the intense smell and will cost me probably more that $1,380 to fix it. I believe strongly that this is a manufacturer defect and should be fixed and paid for by mercedes benz.

Gearing mechanism suddenly failed while driving thus causing the vehicle to stall. Was unable to move forward until the car was shut off, restarted and then car moved forward with a very jerky motion situation posed a dangerous hazard to passengers as well as other vehicles in the flow of traffic.

For several times now i can smelling a strong odor of gasoline inside and outside of the car, even more so after pumping gas on the car. Sometimes i can see a small leak into the parking space.

I had so many problem with my mercedes e350, but when the engine light was on i couldn't believe was the balance shaft. It was in warranty so i didn't pay a cent but when they returned the car back was not the same any more, the tail light was cracked and the a/c opening are inside. The car is not any more the same, sometimes is shaking, and has so many other problems. I saw online that mercedes has to many cars with this defects that brings more problems, so i'm asking what are you waiting for a recall??????

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle jerked, stalled, and the check engine warning light illuminated. In order for the vehicle to be restarted, the key had to be taken out of the ignition and re- inserted. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the balance shift and crank shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

I have appr. 64,0000 miles on my mercedes e350 and the check engine light came on.sent it to the mercedes dealership and said that the car had a balance shaft problem.sold me the car in 2008.service bulletins were out since 2007.mercedes will only help minimally with the cost.total cost so far is $3750.00.to much for me. Told mercedes that i would have to drive around in a defective vehicle with my family and asked the rep. If that was safe, he replied "no".rep. Said that there was no campaign out on this problem.something needs to get done before casualties occur.

The crankshaft pulley is a two piece item.when excessive pressure is on it the pieces separate and disable the car.upon replacing the belt or belt tensioner more pressure is exerted on the crankshaft pulley.thus it fails and again disables the vehicle.when doing either of the replacement tasks mercedes fails to check this or mention it to customers.thus months later it fails and previous belt replacement of belt tensioner replacement has to be done again.this creates a dual expense without fixing the issue the first time.expense is in the thousands.

This vehicle is a threat to my health with all the problems i'm having with it. I have to press extra had to stop . Had brakes checked and there was no problem. There is a bad gasoline leak and loud smell of gas when i fill up. Looked under rear seat and saw gas on gas tank. Dried gas up and the big puddle returned. Can i drive this car? i need someone to tell me what to do. The last and most worrisome thing to me is that there are 2 dtc codes coming up causing the check engine light to come on. Had mechanic to clear then but they come right back when car is started. I need to get this car inspected. Someone tell me what to do. Mechanic said that the code indicate a problem with the engine and that it might take $8700 to repair every thing. I dont have that type of money. This is the car makers problem. Who is looking out for me. Is the goverment doing there job when it comes to this car. Heard there are more cars like this. Oh this is a 2006 mercedes e350. Will the goverment, dealer or manufacturer buy this car from me. This is a plea for help from anywhere.they say there is a recall on this car but when it came out there was 1 year left on car warranty before it ran out. The car didn't quit running when the stalling to repair these cars took place. Some one is in someones back pocket. Someone needs to do their job and get this problem taken care of once and for all. You may lose some friends in the process but this is better than someone losing their life.this vehicle has haad problems stationary and while moving.

Check engine light comes on shortly after fill up of gasoline. Light goes out when tank is about 1/2. Repeats at next fill up. Check engine code is p0456: evap system very small leak.

There is a serious safety issue with 2006 mercedes-benz e class (mbec) because of a manufacturer's and/or design defect which causes this vehicle to not go into proper gear and/or stall suddenly putting the public at risk.i barely escaped being smashed into by oncoming traffic while making a routine left hand turn into a gas station because my mbec was stuck in gear and did not accelerate as it was manufactured and designed to do but rather sputtered at less than 5 miles per hour (mph).the only reason i was not t-boned and likely seriously injured along with other people was because the other drivers swerved into oncoming traffic causing those drivers to also swerve.miraculously no one was injured, this time.also, the reason why i was turning into the gas station was because i was forced to get off the highway because my mbec would not change gear after i got on the highway and was approaching red-lining at and it seemed like the engine might blow.the tiptronic also failed during this malfunction. I had the authorized mb dealer that i have used since i purchased my mbec pickup my vehicle to look into this issue and my advisor told me i needed a new balance shaft because the one in my vehicle had prematurely worn (even though i have always stringently followed my mb advisor's suggestions) and it would cost roughly $6,500.s/he also said this occurs in roughly 15-20% of '06 mbec. But mb would not fix this safety defect unless i paid.worse yet, my advisor never made me aware of this serious safety issue even though s/he previously knew or should have known and as a result put the public at risk by not enabling me to resolve this serious safety issue with my model year vehicle until the occurrence of anear catastrophe.there should be a safety recall now that this safety defect has come to light and unless there is, the public will remain at serious risk.

Fuel pump leaking fumes (and fuel?).while parked and preparing to come home the fuel pump failed and the car refused to start.it will not be repaired unless it is under the extended warranty.i am trying to learn if it will be covered under a extended warranty.

Check engine light comes on and when check indicates cam sensor problem. I was told that mercedes knows about this problem.

Check engine light goes on....car vibrates (shakes!) ...i pull over, stop the car, turn off the engine and the problem does not occur again ...in ten years this episode has occurred three or four times. I brought it in the a local mbz warranty facility and they could not find anything wrong...and the problem did not happen again until 2 weeks ago when i brought it to a different mechanic who was able to diagnose the probem as the "intake manifold actuator linkage broken"mercedes benz usa will notpay to repair it...my mechanic in san diego said i was the eigth carmbz 2005 to 2007 that has had the same issue. The vehicle was in motion when the shaking occurred.it happened both on highway and street...i was not turning.

Engine jerks and sputters while driving.i appears that the vehicle will shutdown immediately.cannot drive over 25 mph or go up hills.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the engine seized. The vehicle was taken to the manufacturer where it was found that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 97,000.

2006 mercedes benz m272/m273 engine. *balance shaft issue* our 2006 e350 mercedes benz was just diagnosed that it needed the balance shaft replaced, a $5000-$8000 dollar repair. After doing some research i have found that many mercedes costumers have experienced the same problem. Infact a class action lawsuit has been filed specifically due to this issue and it seems that this engine part is faulty.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350.while driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle began jerking violently.the jerking would intensify whenever the accelerator pedal was depressed.the tachometer gauge displayed between 50-70 in the red zone whenever she depressed the accelerator pedal.shortly afterwards, the vehicle stalled.after approximately 10-15 minutes, the vehicle was able to be restarted and drove normally.the vehicle has been taken to the repair shop on numerous occasions and the contact was informed that the timing belt needed to be replaced.in addition, two head gaskets were blown and also needed to be repaired.the incident occurred twice within 30 days.the first repair only corrected the failure for a few weeks.the contact believes that a recall should be issued so that the vehicle can be properly repaired.the failure mileage was 40,000 and current mileage was 42,000.

Engine/transmission was acting jerky and suddenly the car lost power to engine and the car broke on it's own doing causing the vehicle to swerve into the other lane.luckily there were no cars behind or to the side of me as this would have surely caused an accident.currently there is a class action law suit in place specifically to the engine in my car and the part at fault.

Fuel tank seals are leaking causing a safety hazard. When i park in my garage there is a gasoline smell. The catalytic converter operates at a high temp. Making the car unsafe in a closed in place. Dealer mercedes-benz of north palm beach said this is not covered under warranty. The repair cost is $680. Safer a battle they offered $217 credit. I refused to pay for a repair on a car that is under warranty and has a serious safety defect.

And canada.

The "check engine" light on the instrument panel came on. We took it to the dealership for maintenance and asked them to diagnose the problem. We were told that it was associated with a faulty balance shaft and that it needed to be replaced sooner than later or else it could cause entire engine to stop working when it failed. The quoted price for repairs was around $5500 with a $1000 discount. Once home, we researched "faulty balance shaft on 2006 mercedes benz e350" and found the first website to have information of a class action legal suit in progress against mercedez benz over defective balance shaft gears in mercedes benz m272engines & idle gears in mercedes benz m273 engines. It was disconcerting to realize that a vast number of people have experienced the same problems without getting relief from mbusa.it is unacceptable to see that so many people are experiencing the same issue of defective engines from a manufacturer who commands a price premium for its "superior engineering" and yet does nothing to correct a serious and widespread fault. From the various reports, including those in the lawsuit website and online forums, mbusa has failed to assist customers with these issues, in most cases citing that vehicles are past warranty coverage and therefore the owners must cover the cost of repair. This is unacceptable since it appears to be a factory defect, rather than "wear and tear" that the customer is responsible for.mercedes benz must pay for this problem, not the customer.

2006 mercedes e350.check engine light on at 83,000 miles.diagnostic code and inspection finds camshaft premature wear requiring full engine removal and replacement of parts.service bulletin issued by mercedes and also search of internet finds numerous complaints of this problem.class action lawsuit filed on this issue.my independent, mercedes only garage, is charging me at least $4200 to repair and vehicle will be unavailable for use for approximately ten days.

Faulty balance shift and idle gear. Replaced many components to rectify the issue only to find a star bulletin was available for the fix. Original found while vehicle was under warranted and technician failed to fix. Now that car is out of warranty, will incur a 6k fix on what seems to be defective or substandard parts (balance shaft sprocket and the timing chain guide wheel(idler)

Check engine came on i took it to the dealer, the dealer stated that it was a faultybalance shaft gear and i received a $5000 (five thousand dollars) estimate for repair. I took it to an independent mechanic, he tried to replace the camshaft exhaust but the engine light was still on, he then determined the same problem faultybalance shaft gear...my car is only 74000 miles now, so much for a mercedes benz car under 100,000 miles..hope this to be a recall.

Balance shaft failure. At 57,700 miles the check engine light on with codes 1200/1207 also known as p0016 and p0017. The balance shaft sprocket is excessively worn due to manufacturer defect known by mercedes benz usa to be due to poorly hardened metal in the manufacture of this part. May cause complete engine failure and loss of power. Manufacturer refused to offer any assistance in correcting the defect.

Check engine light came on.vehicle was taken to dealership and they informed me that the balance shaft gear, exhaust camshaft position timing problem was happening.cost to repair is $7000.was told the issue was normal wear and tear.started to investigate online and found out this is a widespread problem.

Check engine light occurred at 45000 miles and remains active to date. During the first occurrence the dealer performed an inspection of the vehicle, reported no issues, and advised that the light should be ignored as a false alarm. Subsequent to the initial inspection the vehicle was taken in for servicing, at which time a part (cam sensor) replacement was provided. Most recently the vehicle was taken in for epa sanctioned emissions testing at a facility in the state of wisconsin. The vehicle failed the test. This was reported to the dealer and manufacturer; however neither are providing a cost free solution to resolve the issue. The dealer has quoted a minimum cost of $6500, and still no guarantee that it will resolve the issue. It is my position that the vehicle had a preexisting condition, and that the dealer failed to inform the nature and magnitude of the problem at the time of purchase when the vehicle was under warranty. Furthermore it has been discovered the nhtsa has released service bulletins on the mentioned issue. At this point it is unclear how an epa sanctioned requirement can be fulfilled if the dealer and manufacturer are failing to provide a remedy.

Failure of the balance shaft (defective) causing loss of engine timing and engine skips and stalls.mercedes benz has conceded in tech bulletins to their dealer repair shops that this is a common defect for 2005-2007 e-350 and other models.the dealer repaired my car and mb paid 60% of the bill as a concession.repair required 30 hours of labor (removal of engine, replacement of balance shaft and other parts and then reinstallation of engine).cost was $4,000 and my out of pocket was $1,900.

Check engine light came on then went off.took to the dealer told code was for gear in the balance shaft and that the job would be $6000.told me it was normal wear and tear but they were willing to pay 50%.if normal wear why would they even pay.car had 93k miles. See that this is a 2006 mercedes e350 issue and not just wear.need to have a recall.see there is a class action lawsuit in progress against this faulty part.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350.the contact stated that the vehicle exhibited an abnormal grinding noise and was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic test drove the vehicle and was unable to duplicate the failure.the vehicle was taken to a second dealer where they performed a diagnostic test that concluded that the engine vacuum pump was leaking oil and needed to be replaced.the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.no repairs were performed.the current mileage was approximately 32,000 and the failure mileage was approximately 31,000.

I own a mercedes benz 2006 e350 and the check engine light came on at around 54k miles. Had it check out at the dealership and they stated it was a camshaft sensor, i had them replace it at a cost of $550. Now at 57k miles the check engine light has come on with the exact same code, camshaft sensor. Upon research this is an engine/engine cooling:engine. This is a balance shaft issue common on the m272 mercedes benz e350 built b/t 2005-10. Cost to fix is documented @ $5,000-$8,000.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. While driving the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument control panel.the vehicle was then taken to the dealership and a technician concluded that the timing chain cam-shaft failed.the current and failure mileages were 87000.

2006 mercedes benz e350 4matic wagon. Check engine light diagnosis. Camshaft timing retarded. Vehicle needs balance shaft gear (worn out). Estimated cost of repair - $5,643.00.potential catastrophic incident could happen at anytime. Vehicle could mess up gear/timing chain and cause engine to fail and loss of all power related to engine.

Motor oil leaking from camshaft plugs and from camshaft sensors leaking on to hot motor and on to hot exhaust components creating smoke which enters the heating/cooling system causing the need to open windows in winter.have replaced two camshaft plugs at about 12 months ago at about 70,000 miles and scheduled another service call for camshaft sensor leaking oil at about 88,000 miles. Internet sites show similar failure on camshaft magnet senor component.

I own a 2006 mercedes e-series with 47,000 miles. I have noticed a fuel smell when the car is in the garage after refilling the tank. The problem was recently diagnosed as a faulty fuel tan seal. The dealer has indicated this is a dangerous condition and the car should not be driven. The estimated repair cost is over $600. In researching this on the internet i find this is a common dangerous problem but there has not been a recall. I also find that in instances where the seal has been replaced, the problem recurs a short time later and it is related to the entire mechanism, not just the seal. I feel this issue should be addressed by mercedes and plan to report this to the nhtsa.please advise.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that the trunk of the vehicle failed to operate without warning. In addition, the contact stated that the brake lights failed to illuminate. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that unknown electrical wires in the trunk needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 111,000. The vin was unavailable.

I need help with my crankshaft please i see a lot of people are having the same problem

Just bought the car a month ago, and had mercedes benz of orange park put a new engine in. Just filled up the tank and noticed a strong smell of gasoline, so i took it back to mercedes benz, who informed me that the top of the gas tank was leaking as a result of a defective seal on the top of the tank and is a well known issue. This is a serious safety issue since gas is in the passenger compartment.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated while the vehicle was stationary, she started to smell an abnormal fuel odor from the rear driverā€™s side seat. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the fuel level sending unit and the seals and gaskets to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The contact stated that she was unable to continue driving the vehicle due to odor. The contact towed the vehicle to another local dealer, mercedes-benz of myrtle beach (936 jason blvd, myrtle beach, sc 29577, (843) 848-6800) where it was diagnosed with needing the fuel tank, fuel pump, fuel line and all the seals and gaskets needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 104,000.

Based on news reports from earlier this year, i understand that the nhtsa is investigating complaints of fuel leaks that are common with mercedes benz e-class models between 2003 - 2009.i am writing to submit a complaint about my wife's 2006 e 350 that was just serviced for a fuel leak.for sometime she noticed a gas smell after refueling.on 10/16/13 when she refueled the fumes in the car were very strong and did not go away so she took the car to the nearby dealership for service the next morning.the dealership identified the problem as a fuel leak.the leak was severe enough that gas had leaked into the cushions of the back seat where our 3 year old toddler typically sits.the dealership identified the problem as a "safety concern".i agreed.i also expressed my concern to the dealership and mbusa about the gas that leaked into the seat cushion and that the leak seems to be a common problem with their e-class models. Although we have paid for the completed repair, i requested that the repair be covered by mbusa.because no recall exists, mbusa does not acknowledge the leak as a defect and is currently reviewing my request for an out-of-warranty repair coverage, including the replacement of the rear seat cushion.my wife, oldest son and i have previously been diagnosed with asthma.i am concerned that the fumes that continue to linger will threaten asthma-related complications.i am happy to provide additional information upon request.

My 2006 mercedes e350 smells of strong gas fumes every time i fill the tank.i never top off the tank and nothing ever spills out but the smell is very strong.the gas fumes are present for several days making my garage smell of gas.the problem seems to get better once the fuel level reaches about a half tank.i am worried about a fire or someone breathing the fumes in my garage.i have read numerous stories on the internet about this issue with various mercedes models.

I recently bought a 2006 mercedes benz e350 with84000+ miles on it, in very good condition.upon filling my gas tank for the second time, and returning home for the night, i parked in my garage and went about my business.the next morning i noticed a strong smell of gasoline around the car.i pulled the rear seat off, and discovered that there was a small pool of gasoline in the area of the fuel sending unit.apparently this is not uncommon, and the nhtsa has already initiated an investigation (nhtsa action# pe12001).as far as i know, this car was serviced regularly by the previous owner and was never in an accident.i have no reason to believe that this isn't the sending unit that came with the car originally.

When i filled the gas tank i started noticing strong gasoline smell inside the car.the strong odor stayed for more than a few days then went away as the gas was used in driving.three days ago i had the gas tank filled again and i looked up the problem on online forums and found out that this is a complaint lodged with nhtsa.i'd like to file my safety complaint too as my car is an accident waiting to happen.my garage is filled with gasoline fumes and when i tried to pull the car out of the garage yesterday, i noticed physical gasoline dripping near the back wheel.i called mb usa and the local mb dealer, they all said that i should stop driving it as its a fire/safety hazard and take it into the local mb dealer.unfortunately, mb will not cover the cost of this repair as its outside the 4 years/50k miles warranty.i've been told that the repair can be expensive and since there's no recall from mb, i'd have to pay for it.if there's a recall (whenever that happens, it could take month/years!!) then mb 'might' reimburse me.i think that this issue needs to be taken care of asap by the relevant authorities and mb should provide the right assistance in getting this hazardous and life threatening issue addressed.

There is an extremely strong and sickening gasoline odor that comes from the car, especially when parked in the garage or an enclosed space. The odor arises from inside the car, on the driver's side in the back. This odor occurs every time after the tank is filled up.

I filled my gas tank and parked in garage when i returned to drive vehicle i smelled gas in the interior of the car, i took the car to my mercedes dealer and they told me that the fuel pump located under the rear seat had a leak that could only be repaired by replacing the fuel pump so i had the pump replaced the dealer also stated that they believed based on the number of replacements and the potential for fire that this would be recalled.

For the last 3 months after filling the fuel tank a incredibly strong gasoline smell would fill the passenger cabin.this would only occur when the fuel tank is filled to capacity.upon investigation, i removed the rear seat and access plate to see the top of the fuel pump/sending unit. With the seat removed and the top of the fuel tank visible, i filled the car with fuel.with a full tank, raw gasoline seeped through a small crack in the plastic top of the fuel pump sending unit assembly and filled the area on top of the fuel tank.upon further investigation, the insulation inside the passenger cabin under the seat appeared to be saturated with raw fuel.in retrospec, if a spark would have occurred in the car, there is no question the car would have exploded.

Strong fuel odor was detected in my e350 mercedes benz car for few days. Called my mercedes benz maintenance shop( mercedes benz -green way plaza at houston tx). They checked the car and they told me this a common in this series car. The fuel leak was from fuel pump on top of the fuel tank. This is a very dangerous issue, especially in hot weather area like houston. I don't understand why there is no "recall" on this issue. Updated 09/10/13*ljupdated 12/21/13

I filled up the car and drove home you can smell gas outside at the gas station like it was leaking somewhere, but when i got home the smell was so loud that i was afraid to park it in the garage.not only the smell was bad, but i can't tell if it is filled all the way or not because the gas gauge doesn't go to the top, it is about 3 notches from full, but all the gas pump it stops that it is full. I went online, and it stated that it was a recall for e350 and others for the fuel filters that leak and may cause a fire, but it is for 2011 & 2012. It should be for all mercedes benz because this same problem is happening for older car as well.

Fuel leaks and a strong odor of gasoline both inside and outside of vehicle, particularly after refueling.

It has been about a month since purchase when i notice a gas odor inside the car. It smells like a fuel leak. The smell comes & goes. One day i took my car to the mercedes dealer due to a recall & inquired about a gas leak/odor that i noticed since purchase. I was told that i will have to pay for the diagnostics then if it is the fuel system then it will cost approximately $3000- $5000. It's been almost a year since i purchase my car & the smell still lingers throughout the inside of my car. I don't drive my car as often as i want to due to fear of a faulty fuel system.

(nhtsa action# pe12001)i recently purchased 2006 mercedes benz e350 in feb 2014. I am the second owner. The first owner has kept and serviced the car regularly and i have the records. The car has never been in any crash. Thedate of occurrence and miles are approximate and based on the first owner's best of knowledge. I personally experienced it on march 3, 2014 and at 89122 miles. After purchasing the i filled the gas tank. I left the car in the garage overnight and when i went into the garage in the morning, my garage smelled like someone has spilled gas in the garage. I checked the garage floor under the car but there was no visible leak. I called the previous owner and he told me it is a common problem andthe smell goes away after you drive the car and use up some gas. The gas smell is so strong that i was worried to turn on any electricity. I am worried that one day it is going to cause fire in my garage. I have now experienced this twice. After researching i found that it is a common problem for every mercedes benz cars with 211 engines. It is sad that mercedez benz will not fix the fuel sending unit on their own. What are they waiting for? someone to die?

Strong gasoline odor after filling fuel tank.

When the car's gas tank was filled, there was a distinct odor of gasoline when the car was parked in the garage.with a bedroom close by and an hvac system above, we thought this was unsafe and needed to be fixed.we were told that the gas tank needed to be replaced and this was a common problem, but there had been no recall.mercedes ended up charging us a discounted price of $1476 for the repair, but i think there should be a recall and mercedes should have paid the full cost of repair.

A strong odor of gasoline was emitted by the car. Taken two times to be repaired, and the failure continued. The car was taken back to be repaired a third time. The dealer informed the gas tank needed to be replaced.

Gas smell/leak when tank is full.

There is an extremely strong gasoline smell in the cabin and exteriorof my vehicle. It is very strong smellimmediately after filling the fuel tank, but continues to smell throughout the levels in the tank. I am very afraid of a possible fire due to the what seems to be excess gasoline. I am extremely fearful should i ever get involved in a rear end type accident.i feel that myself and my family are in danger until this situation is evaluated. This is a known condition that the manufacturer should take responsibility for and rectify the situation.

Strong gas smell in and around the car. Especially when freshly refueled. At the mercedes benz dealership both of the fuel sensors were found to be leaking. I was advised to not drive the car one more mile and get repairs done instantly.

Very strong, lasting, gas odor inside and outside the car. I searched forum of mbworld.org and found many similar complaints. The cause could be a leaking fuel lever sender due to broken seal. I removed the rear seat and found a puddle of gas on top of the tank. The dealer i called told me there was no recall on this matterand i world have to pay $160 for diagnostic even this is emission related safety issue.

I filled the fuel tank and parked the vehicle in my garage.a couple of hours later i went into the garage and discovered a strong gas smell.i immediately contacted the gas company and told them i suspected a gas leak.the technician came out and tested the appliances in the garage.after the appliances tested negative the technician surmised that the smell was possibly emitting from my vehicle.the following day i took the vehicle into the mercedes benz dealer and was advised that there was a fuel tank leak.the service advisor gave me a very costly estimate for the repairs.i elected to have the vehicle repaired at a private mechanic.unfortunately the issue was not completely resolved and the vehicle still emits a fuel smell when the tank is full.i am disappointed that the dealer did not admit that this was a manufacture issue and offer to make the repairs without cause.i feel this is a safety concern.

Gas odor from left rear side.and inside the car. No visible leak. Car runs fine. When the dealer was contacted, they were aware of the issue of the gas leak from fuel/pump/filter or sending unit but would notfix it at mercedes expense.

After filling fuel tank and parking car in garage, a strong gasoline smell filled the garage and house.had to remove car from garage.this happens if i fill the tank.i do not overfill.if i don't fill the tank i don't have this problem.after driving the car around 50 miles the smell goes away.

The issue originated as a faint fuel smell when the tank was 3/4 full or higher, parked on slight inclines. The problem has become increasingly worse, and today left a trail of fuel behind it.calling local dealership tomorrow. Current mileage is 123,3xx.

Every time that i fill my gas tank there is a strong smell of gasoline.

Strong gas odor inside the car. It made me dizzy and had to open the window fully. Closed the window with ac on at maximum fan speed would not help. The odor lasted for 2 weeks. I found the gas accumulated on top of the tank at driver side after i removed the rear seat.

I've noticed strong gasoline odor from inside and outside of the car. Did an inspection and saw a leak on the fuel pump.

In the previous months leading up to march 2012, i, along with my family, started to smell a strong odor of fuel in the interior of our mercedes benz e 350w. The smell was so strong that when riding in the automobile, we had to drive with the windows down fearing of what could happen to me and my family if there was a spark from any part of the engine or underneath the automobile.at a point during that bad experience with that automobile, i could only fill the fuel tank half full without smelling the strong odor of gasoline inside the vehicle. I thought it was now time to get some professional service and advice.in january, 2012, i took my automobile to atlanta classic cars, inc. In duluth georgia 30098. After the first inspection, i was told fuel sending units leak fuel.the next visit, march 2012, both sending units were replaced. Before the next visit, the fuel fumes continued. The next visit, april 3, 2012, the fuel pump was replaced due to intermittent open circuit.the next visit, april 9, 2012; "the team leader found a slight trail of fuel residue which may be where fuel vapors are coming from part of the fuel tank."the next and last visit, april 12, 2012 the fuel tank was replaced.not trusting the work performed by that dealership and the time it took to find that problem, my wife and i had no other choice but to trade the automobile.maintaining ownership of that automobile was much too risky and dangerous for my family.dealing with that dealerships service advisor was much too difficult!!!

After fueling up a very strong gas smell stays in the car. It was almost filled up but not topped off.the smell remains for several days. The mechanic states it very expensive to drop tank to look for a leak. It is not safe to drive but is the only mean of transportation to work.

My 2006 mercedes benz e-350 continue to have strong odor of gasoline inside.the car has been in the shop several times but the dealer refuses to fix it.

Car is leaking fuel with strong odor in garage. This happened after normal gas fill up. Car is not driven much.

Vehicle at 80,000 has fuel smells in and out of the passenger compartment.had to replace the fuel tank to remedy the situation.over $2,000 repair.found out from the service manager at mercedes benz that it is a factory defect.not good.

Mercedes e350 2006, has bad odor of gas. I noticed after filling up gas, and parked my car in garage in the morning my whole garage had a smell of gas. I looked around underneath and every where inside outside i don't see any leak of gas. I can just smell gas fumes... I have called mercedes dealer haven't heard anything back and i research web and found so many other cars of mercedes have this problem.. I hope this can be recall and fix.

Prior to incident date, i began to smell a strong gasoline smell that filled the garage. The smell got progressively worse so i took it to ewing autohaus in plano, texas on 08-31-11.the car was diagnosed as having a fuel leak and needed a new fuel tank that would cost $2000.00 to fix.i questioned why a new fuel tank was needed since the car had never been in an accident.i was not given an answer and refused to have them fix it. I was later told that the gasoline was leaking from the top and as long as the tank was not completely full the gasoline would not leak.i took the car into mercedes benz park place dallas for a transmission issue in january of 2013 and i asked them to check the fuel tank and they diagnosed the fuel tank also as having a leak and needed to be replace.this repair would cost$3000.00.i declined this repair also and stated to them that i felt that the car had a faulty fuel tank as well as a faulty transmission and was i was extremely upset having to smell gasoline inside and outside of the carif the tank was a little bit overfilled .

Strong smell of gasoline occurs after filling the fuel tank. This persists until the car is driven approximately 50 miles. Dealer suggests that this may be a result of fuel tank leaks or bad senders and is quoting as much as $3000 for replacement of the fuel tank.

Fuel leak top of fuel pump raw fuel odor in car.replaced both fuel pumps 12/06/12problem recurred 2/23/24.

In 2012 the car began having a strong fuel odor after fill-up that went away once the tank was down to a half to 3/4 full. Took to dealer and they said the "fuel tank was leaking at plastic mounting weld". I was charged to replace the fuel tank. Now the smell is starting to come back again, so the problem appears to be coming back. I did a google search on this issue and it appears many others are having this same problem and you are investigating.

After filling fuel tank, strong gasoline smell inside cabin of car, local dealer said fuel pump and sender need replacing and maybe fuel tank if pump replacement does not solve problem.fuel is leaking and pooling on top of fuel pump access panel just underneath rear seat.this sounds like a dangerous situation.any reasonable person would not consider this normal wear and tear of moving parts and, in my opinion should be worthy of a recall.

The car would not start fuel pump faulty and is part of gas tank bad design cost me close to $3800, some paid by mbz. Mbz replaced 2009 gas tanks for free under warranty but would not do mine. This is a bad design they should have told me about it so i would not buy the car. It is stupid to have to replace gas tank in order to replace a fuel pump in 2012 i had gas leakage from the same area and i paid to fix it they should have told me this would be a problem. Instead they kept silent when i take my car for service they always list of things to do so i can spend more money at the dealership why the [xxx] no body bothered to tell me about this problem that it would cost me a lot of money to fix . This car has cost over $60,000 to buy and i did not pay that kind of money for a car to last me only 12 years. Mbzs are supposed to last 30 years or more so ifeel cheated big time i think they are hiding this because they will get sued big time and i hope they do both the dealership and the mbz company. The dealership is mercedes banz of valencia in valencia, ca 91355. Phone number 661-753-5555. I have the necessary paperwork. I would like to be reimbursed fro all the cost, the 3 weeks without a car and fro the pain and suffering they have caused me and so it will be a lesson to mbz and their dealers not to pratice this fraud. When entering the vehicle after it has been sitting for a period of time there is the smell of gasoline that lingers until the vehicle has been run for a short time.it happens no matter how much fuel is in the tank but it does not happen all of the time.it can go a week or more sometimes and not happen and then occur for several days straight.

On gas filled up, the entire garage smell of strong gasoline smell that can cause nausea and dizziness if garage door is not opened to allow fresh air, mechanics saidthere is a leak in the fuel system and similar car owners have the same issue. Smell will go away when the fuel level is below 7/8 level. I started having this problem at around 40,000 miles and currently around 48,000, i hardly use the vehicle due to the smell and safety concern. Mercedes should recall this defects for epa, safety and health concerns before any incidence and resulting class action lawsuit.

Whenever gas tank is filled, strong gasoline smell persist around car until fuel level drops to 3/4 level. If car is parked in a garage, entire garage has extremely strong gasoline odor. Car was taken to the dealership and dealer advised that fuel tank has a leak with no safety recall. This is a serious fire hazard and after searching internet i found out that hundreds of users have reported exact same issue. Mercedes should fix this issue for free.

Strong smell of gasoline when car is filled with gas.

After filling fuel tank, noticed strong fuel odor on drivers side of car.opened fuel sending unit access panel under rear seat and noticed fuel pooled on top of the sending unit. The fuel odor dissipates as fuel is consumed.however, the odor returns on each full tank fill.summary: gasoline is leaking from the fuel tank under the rear seat behind the driver.

I took our car to the dealership for regular maintenance and state inspection.after receiving a phone that the gas tank had leaks and needed to be replaced for $2500 in order to pass state inspection i did some research and discovered that there are over 500 complaints being reported with this problem.obviously, a gas leak is a major safety issue and given that it appears to be a common defect we are surprised that it has not been put into a recall status.

Very strong gasoline odor inside and outside automobile, strongest after refueling.

After returning home from the filling station and parking my e350 mercedes in the garage, i noticed a strong fuel smell outside the driver's side rear of the vehicle, and to a lesser extent inside the car.i was certain i had not somehow "over-filled" it, and after repeated fuelings since then, i know that is not the case.this problem is occurring when the tank is above 3/4-full.it progressively lessens as the amount of fuel in the tank is reduced.i took the car to the mercedes dealer (where i bought it new) and they advised that the fuel-sending unit is leaking.they wanted $659 for the repair which i declined as i wanted to first do some research and possibly get another quote since the price was absurd.i was then astounded to learn that this is a very common problem on these expensive vehicles, with numerous complaints documented within various automotive forums and filings with the nhtsa.it is wrong that a fundamental part like this should leak fuel. This is not a part that should require any service and in most circumstances should be expected to last the life of the vehicle.there are millions of other vehicles out there without such problems. So, clearly mercedes did not get it right on their design. I am now concerned about parking the car in my garage since it presents a safety hazard due to the fumes.i expect this problem will only get worse.mercedes needs to step-up and retrofit these vehicles now instead of leaving it up to the consumer to absorb the cost of their manufacturing mistake.

Strong odor of gasoline both inside and outside of the vehicle right after after refueling. After replacing multiple seals same situation we adopted a workaround not to fill the tank in its entirety to prevent the strong smell.

Based on news items regarding mercedes-benz w211 (u.s.a. Model year 2003-2008 e class) vehicles experiencing fuel leaks, an inspection of the fuel system was performed on the above listed vehicle. Gross exam revealed no fuel puddling on the ground beneath the vehicle and a lack of fuel odor within the interior and exterior environment immediately adjacent to the vehicle. However, removal of the rear seat bench, underlying insulation pad and left fuel pump access plate revealed fuel odor; closer inspection revealed the superior outer aspect of the fuel pump assembly to be wet with gasoline; fuel-induced discoloration (white to brown) of the plastic comprising this superior aspect was clearly evident. Pooling of fuel within the left pump well of the plastic fuel tank was not present. The clamped black rubber fuel delivery hose was secure and dry, as was the outflow nipple to which it was attached. The plastic immediately adjacent to the nipple was not discolored. No remedial action was taken at this point, however, installation of a new style pump (delivery unit with fluid level sensor, m-b pn a211 470 41 94) and seal ring (m-b pn a211 471 05 79) is planned in the immediate future.

I am a disabled veteran and on april 30, 2015 my car smelled like gas. Mercedes benz usa said to take it to nearest dealer atlanta classic cars in gwinnett county, ga.the problem: leaking fuel tank, it took 120 days to replace the tank. The car still smells like gas, the dealership recommended replace the seat cushions, and the felt.both are wet from gas, and has gas vapors on it.the technician showed me how to lift up the seats, and i took pictures of the wet seat cushions, and the wet felt.the dealership wants to charge me $565.00.my complaint is that i should not have to pay for a problem that i did not cause; this was caused by a leaking fuel tank.my throat burns from the gas smells, my eyes water, and i'm getting headaches.part of my disability is asthma and the fumes in this car exacerbates the asthma.i called mercedes benz usa and they said unfortunately they covered just the part!this is horrible, and dangerous to ride around with wet seat cushions with gas on them. I cant believe mercedes is not standing behind their product.this is a firetrap and they should be responsible for replacing the seat cushions and felt at no cost to me the consumer!

Strong gas smell after filling the tank. The whole garage smells like gas. Dealer said they are unaware of such issue and no recall for this issue. I'm surprised because i read a lot about these issues online. It should be addressed asap because it can trigger fire or explosion.

After fueling the car, strong odor of gasoline stays until tank is 3/4 or less full. The problem is consistent with every fill up. Replaces gas cap but it was not it. Seems like it is commonly occurring problem with leaking gas seals or tanks.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. While filling up the vehicle with fuel, the contact smelled fuel inside the cabin and outside the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 53,000. Updated 02/10/15*ljupdated 10/6/2015

Leaking fuel pump, emitting gas odors in back seat for several years. Could not fill up gas tank or the smell is too much. Not safe to travel with friends in the car. Eventually the fuel pump stopped working and we were forced to repair it by purchasing an entire new gas tank including two fuel pumps which are enclosed in the system. Other mercedes like ours have had their gas tanks replaced or under warranty by mercedes, but they do not include our vin number (?) it is exactly the same problem as the other cars. They refuse to compensate us for this unsafe problem that mercedes has refused to adequately take care of for the safety of their customers. We went to mercedes in temecula california a couple times during last year and this year asking them to take care of it. They refused. We didn't want the car and it's problems anymore so sold it after we paid more than $3,000 to fix their problem. We were recently informed that mercedes was offering compensation, so we had our mechanic submit all the documents for the mercedes factory original part that we had to replace, but again they refused to compensate us. They don't seem to be avoiding to take care of their unsafe problems with these models.

Strong gasoline order, especially when tank is full.mechanic says that gas tank pump is leaking.i hear that other owners have the same problem.

On gas filled up, the entire garage smell of strong gasoline smell that can cause nausea and dizziness if garage door is not opened to allow fresh air, mechanics said there is a leak in the fuel system and similar car owners have the same issue. Smell will go away when the fuel level is below 7/8 level. I started having this problem at around 50,000 miles and repair 51,103. The smell was also strong in the cabin. Mercedes should recall this defects for epa, safety and health concerns before any incidence and resulting class action lawsuit. The dealer wrote me an email stating ".the sender seals we replaced are on each side and where you see the large red caps.these seals generally deteriorate with time, age and with heat." but they had to change the whole gas tank at a cost of $2,057. In the service ticket it was indicated "found fuel tank leaking at breather hose " which is part of the vapor recovery system that is warranty for 10 years but mercedes denied the replacement. This is a violation of the clean air act and need to be resolve.

Vehicle has fuel smell inside and out like there is a leak. Odor worst after fill up.

I have been smelling gasoline for months now on the exterior of my car, on 9/9/15 i started the car drove a short distance it died in the middle of the street. I had it towed to mercedes who said i needed a new gas tank installed for 3600.00. I asked about the class action regarding fuel tanks and they told me it only applies to vehicles with plastic gas tanks? i have already been forced to replace the transmission 6800 and the top end of the engine 4400 and now this. Mb needs to pay for this repair in full. Please help! thank you

My mercedes benz e350 2006 failed to start intermittently due to fuel pump failure. My car was hit by an uninsured motorist, since then, my car became unreliable to start, my car falls into a metal type of fuel tank. There was a recall #08v303000 which states that in the event of vehicle crash, the electrical fuel pump may fail to deliver the needed fuel to start the engine, but my vin is not on the list, however, during investigation ea 13-003 for fuel system, warranty has been extended to 15 years, warranty has been extended to 15 years with unlimited miles for the fuel pump on the subject vehicle. Penske refuse to honor the replacement of my fuel tank because according to the asst. Service manager, the warranty only affect on the plastic type of fuel tank. Is this really true? my car has 161,927 miles and he saidthe metal type fuel tank can only be replaced 150,00 or below. By the way, in order replace the fuel pump, the whole fuel tank should be replaced because mercedes benz systematically integrated and redesigned the whole fuel propulsion to avoid the nagging problemof avoiding the nagging problem of fuel leak from fuel pump.please, i need your advice on this matter whether if the metal type of fuel tank of 2006 mercedes benz e350 is not included in 15 years warranty with unlimited mileage.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. Upon refueling the vehicle, there was a strong smell of fuel outside and inside the vehicle. When the vehicle was parked, the strong fumes were extreme. The vehicle was taken to the authorized dealer, who diagnosed that the fuel sending unit was leaking and needed to be replaced. The dealer was not able to determine the location or the source of the leak. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

Car had quarter tank when bought. Drove out gas and put about another quarter tank of gas in. Drove this out. Smelled no fumes. Filled tank up. Have smelled loud gas smell for 1 week now.

Leaking fuel tank and gaskets. A strong smell of fuel internally in the vehicle and externally with a full tank of fuel. Mercedes benz warrantee extension pe#12001 "covered fuel tank components." mercedes benz denied claim because of pzev vs non-pzev type of vehicle. Both vehicles pzev and non-pzev, both use the same plastic gas tank, sending units, and fuel pump in their respective vehicles. How did nhtsa agree to cover non-pzev vehicles only.

After filling car there is a strong odor of gasoline around the car. The smell continues until the tank is down to @3/4 .after reaching this point the smell dissipates somewhat but is still detectable. The garage reeks of fuel but there is nothing on the floor(yet).this problem started at @38,000 miles and continues.we now have @44,000 miles on the car. We tried contacting mercedes usa but they merely told us to contact a local dealership.the dealership we contacted and relayed our problem to (chantilly virginia)claimed there was no known fuel system/tank problem with that model(2006 e350). They would, of course, love to check it out.research shows that the common fix for this problem(if it works)is around $2,000.

After i fill my gas tank there a strong odor of gasoline both inside and outside of the vehicle, particularly after refueling. Possible problem could be the fuel pump and fuel filter along with the gas tank. The odor is so severe we had to park our car outside the garage after filling. The time we didn't it caused severe illness (nausea) to my wife.

Vehicle has less than 50k miles, we started noticing an intermittent strong fuel smell in the cabin in the spring of 2020. We found out that this is a known issue and mercedes had issued an extended warranty due to this issue. Unable to get the vehicle to the dealer due to covid. When we did get it diagnosed recently, we were informed the repair would exceed $3400 and we were out of the warranty period. The repair consists of replacing the fuel tank and fuel system components. Mercedes benz na has offered us a $400 dealer service credit.we cannot afford to do this repair and therefore have a vehicle we are unable to safely operate. We have read reports online of this issue where fuel is sitting on top of the fuel tank right below the rear passenger seats.

My vehicle has only 19500 original miles which i bought from my aunt who didn't drive the car that much because of gas smell inside especially after filling up gas full tank which i also encountered that makes me worry that might cause combustion or fire. I search the internet and most the mb e-class owners have the same problem which is i think the most important to recall because it is dangerous to drive that possibly can cause fire or will lost lives. I have 3 kids with me driving and picking them up at school and it really worries me. Nhtsa please make an investigation on this regard asap. Thank you and more power.

When i fill the gas tank to full, the gas smell is very strong inside/outside of car. The problem is consistent with every fill up. Dealer suggests that this may be a result of fuel tank leaks. Updated 4/24/2015

My 2006 mercedes benz e350 has a strong odor of gasoline, particularly strong after filling the tank.my understanding is that there was a nhtsa investigation into this problem in the past and the manufacturer agreed to extend the warranty to repair the problem which resulted in nhtsa closing the probe.i contacted my local dealership regarding this problem and they indicated that the warranty is not extended.this implies that the manufacturer is not complying with their agreement or the probe should be reopened?

A fuel tank leak was identified by an independent mercedes mechanic.filling up the car with fuel and parking in garage overnight, always produced a significant gas odor when returning to the garage.it has always done this (second owner at about 25-30kk miles), and i assumed it was just a quirk of filling the tank.i have always serviced the car at a mb dealer, but recently want to a local well recommended independent mechanic for another issue and he asked me if i knew i had a fuel leak.i said no, and he said do you ever smell gas, and clearly this was identified and had stored codes in the car system that i was unaware of.he indicated that the sending unit needed to be replaced and crack repaired and it was a safety issue.i called mb usa, and they indicated they were unaware of any of other complaints to this nature.when i questioned why the dealer would never have identified this, they indicated that they would never instruct their dealers in any way regarding an issue like this and the dealer has no incentive to not identify the issue and i should discuss with them.i proceeded to have the repair done by the independent mechanic.i understand that fuel would pool over the gas tank from the leak.

I noticed the smell of gasoline in the cabin of the car. I decided to look around and search for where the gasoline smell was coming from. I discovered that the car has a leak in the fuel system on top of the sending unit. There was a pool of gasoline ontop of the sending unit right next to electrical wires. I also noticed that there was gasoline dripping from beneath the car. After researching this issue online i discovered that mercedes benz did a recall which was 2008-020001. This recall was for sending units that leaked on all 03-06 211 & 219 amg models. I do not understand why mercedes benz would not recall the non amg vehicles, as they too develop the same dangerous problem. The dealership wants $3100 to fix this issue. I think that they should fix the. ...updated 09-18-13 .the consumer stated the sending unit was replaced. The dealership advised it did not need too be replaced but was replaced anyway unbeknownst to the consumer.

Strong fuel smell coming from the outside of vehicle

Gas tank leaking causing gas to drain into back seat.cost to replace was aprox 1000 for part alone.after going to mercedes, my other mechanic was looking at other used parts and found that all used parts had same issue and leaking for exact location.upper portion of gas tank.looking online, there are lots of these issues going on.mercedes needs to address this issue.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that there was an abnormal fuel odor in the vehicle after the vehicle was refueled. The walters mercedes-benz dealer was contacted and confirmed that it was known issue with the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

Very strong fuel odor in cabin of car after refueling.fuel smell is so strong that it causes you dizziness while driving unless windows are open.just started the last time i filled up.there must be a recall on this but can't find one.i have never heard of such a problem with a vehicle.this seems very dangerous.

Check engine light came onhad vehicle checked throughly discovered fuel sending unit/tank problem.

For several times now i can smelling a strong odor of gasoline inside and outside of the car, even more so after pumping gas on the car. Sometimes i can see a small leak into the parking space.

I smell a heavy fuel odor coming from the rear of the vehicle when i fill the fuel tank to 100%.called mercedes and they told me that my issue is not covered under the recall even though i see that they have indeed had a recall out for this very issue.from what i have found online, my car should be covered under the recall for 15 years with unlimited miles.

After filling car with gas there is a gasoline smell. Odor so strong cannot leave car in garage until gas dips below approximately 3/4 tank.

Takata recalli went over a speed bump and my air bags deployed on the drivers side and the rear passenger (behind the driver).

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that the vehicle was leaking fuel. The fuel from the fuel sending unit was leaking and there was a pool of fuel underneath the rear seat of the vehicle, which leaked into the rear seats. The contact also smelled a fuel odor throughout the vehicle and noticed a dried fuel film on top of the vehicle's access panel. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to mercedes-benz of west covina (2010 e garvey ave s, west covina, ca 91791, 626-859-1200). The contact informed the dealer of an article from nhtsa that stated they would offer an extended warranty (p-bq-fuel-3wa) to their consumers regarding this defect. The manufacturer refused to cover the vehicle because the specific defect part was not covered under the warranty. The contact was provided a quote for the repair of the defective part. The manufacturer agreed with the contact that the dealer should cover the vehicle under the warranty; however, the contact was informed that the local dealer refused to honor the warranty and had the right to refuse the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 147,647.

I was first owner of this benz 2006 e350.it was never involved in any accident.i typically parked the car outside garage.however, after i moved the car inside my garage a few days ago, i smelled gas.so i lifted up 2nd row seat, uncovered the covering-piece on driver's side, i saw fuel delivery system with two connectors, one for sensor and one for power supply.i saw the area around power connector is wet.it smells gas. Obviously, the gas leak was from the top of fuel delivery system (or top of the fuel filter housing). I'm glad i did this investigation tonight.i plan to see a benz dealer tomorrow in laguna niguel, ca, where the dealer told me it is not covered under warranty, even after i hold him that my e350 is under benz 2006 - pzev 15 years or 150,000 mi emission related warranty.

After refueling my mercedes w211 i getting fuel leak fro the fuel pump. I found a info that nhsa closed case 2014 because mercedes extended warranty for 25 years regardless on mileage. They are telling that is not for my car. But i have issue like all those cars: plastic pump cover is cracked and fuel is leaking from the top of pump and running outside. Looks like total scam from mercedes side. They telling that my tannk is different and not covered by that extended warranty, but leak is from the pump and there is tons complains about same issue from thpse tanks too. For me looks that they extended warranty on cheaper repair tanks and not fixing expensive ones with same issues. Please, please help me because they wanna charge me 4200$ for this repair and not fixing under extended warranty.

My vehicle started having a faint gas smell after refueling a few years ago. I am not sure of the exact date or mileage as i just thought this was a minor problem. The smell would disappear after i had used about a quarter of a tank. The odor has gotten stronger over the past year which prompted me to discuss with my mechanic. They have replaced the fuel cap and the seals on the gas tank with no reduction in the smell. They also can find no visible reason for the gas odor. The gas odor is now so strong after refueling i am unable to park my car in the garage because the smell permeates through my home. My car has 149,424 miles on in to date. I saw an article from the boston globe and this prompted me to report my issue.

I am experiencing highly intoxicating fumes coming from the vehicle gas tank.i can no longer park vehicle inside my garage for fear of an explosion. When taken to a dealership, i was told there was a bulletin on the gas tank, but doe to the vehicle being out of warranty, the repairs were not covered.

As per your website you closed this investigation on the basis of mercedes notifying you that it will extend the original warranty coverage on covered fuel tank components in e class vehicles in my 2003-2009.however when i reached out to mb-usa they informed me that my vehicle was not covered under this warranty, which seems to contrary to what you have published on your website.can you please let me know if this is correct.thanks.

After filling car up with gas (not topping it off) the inside of the car smells like gas.the smell goes away after the gas tank is 3/4 full

Strong smell of gasoline vapors inside cabin while driving and also while parked. Got headache while driving from fumes. First noticed smell of gasoline when i entered my garage. Then i noticed gasoline leaking near rear driver wheel. Towed car to mechanic. Mechanic said there was a leak in the fuel sending unit on the drivers side. Mechanic replaced the fuel sending unit. Seems to me that gasoline vapors in my garage or inside the cabin are a health hazard and potential for explosion.

Everytime i fill the car up with gas i smell a gas leak coming from the fuel pump under the rear seat driverside.

Strong smell of gas inside and outside perimeter of the automobile after a gas tank fill up.smells go away after driving 40-50 miles. I have been refueling at about 80% capacity to mitigate the situation.

I filled the tank before going on vacation.car was left parked on my driveway.when i came back there was a strong smell of gas inside the car.the gas tank is under the back seat.took vehicle to the dealer to fix.they replaced the tank inner module, cable harness, auxiliary pump, seal ring and breather pipe.sending unit was leaking large amounts of fuel.removed and replaced left and right side sending units. Modules in fuel tank and seals for the same. The problem was not fixed. I have to keep the fuel tank at less than 3/4 tank for it not to smell.very concerned safety wise. For the amount of money i spent they could have replaced the entire fuel tank unit.

After filling car with gas there is a strong gasoline smell coming from the car.goes away after driving and some of the gas is used out of the tank.cannot find any gas leaking on the ground around the vehicle and i do not 'top off' the tank.i am no longer parking the car in the garage as i am concerned about an explosion as there is a gas water heater in the garage. Somewhere in the system this gas is leaking....and it's not coming out on the ground!!! scary

Due to investigation ea 13-003 for fuel system, warranty has been extended to 15 years with unlimited miles for the fuel pump on this vehicle. This was presumably done to avoid a recall. South bay mercedes benz is refusing to honor this warranty though all criteria have been met.

I noticed that another owner ofa 2006 e350 noted that he/she had a fuel leak. I have had one, too. The extended warrantee ran out in 2020, so mercedes wouldn't cover the repair expenses. But if they knew for 15 years that this was a problem, they should have recalled the cars. And if they aren't going to recall it, they should cover repair expenses. This is a seriously dangerous situation. It's likely that our tank has been leaking for a while. We've smelled gas for about a year, but didn't realize it was leaking until recently when there was a clear puddle in the garage.

Fuel sending unit leaking.

Dealerships are telling us that the e350 should be recalled for the gas tank leak issueif you look online a lot of people are having the same problem.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that the smell of gasoline was very prominent in the vehicle cabin after refueling. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they advised the contact that the fuel pump and tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 103,000. The vin was not available.

The e350 mercedes benz has a defected seal gasket on the top of the gas tank and when the tank is filled, fumes and gas will exit this opening in the fuel tank.the fumes are very strong when parked in the garage and mercedes benz has acknowledged this defect in their tanks and the suit has been settled.the benz dealers will not honor the repairs because it is not vin specific and states the my vehicle is not covered.the mercedes benz has extended the warranty on these vehicles for this purpose and it states these details in their letter to all benz owners.the letter states all years 2004 to 2009 e350 vehicles but does not give vin details.please advise what my next step will be.the nhtsa action number : ea13003 which explains in details what this vehicle defect is and how mercedes benz will repair as an extension of warranty.

Fuel smell in rear inside (and outside) particularly after filling it up with gas.

I am available for an interview or more information as needed.regards, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Have been smelling gas inside car and in garage on fill up of gas tank. On 2/21/13, dealer found gas pooled about an inch thick on top of the 2 sending units under 2nd row seats of this station wagon.gas was leaking out thru the seals and locking rings on top of sending units. Dealerfound defective locking rings, seals, and gas sending units. All 3 parts replaced on both sides right under the 2nd row seats where my children were riding. This defect could cause injury or death to anyone in or close to the car if gas tank explodedfrom gas leaking from these defective parts.extremely dangerous.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that after refueling, he noticed a strong gasoline fuel odor. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnosis. The technician was unable to diagnose the failure. On a second occasion, the vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel tank sending unit needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 111,000.

The car started to get strong gas smell specially after a full tank fill up.i have owned this car for several years and this problem started in late 2011.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that when the fuel tank was full, the tank would leak. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and the technician stated that the problem was unknown. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 52,000. The current mileage was 77,000.

Strong smell of gasoline mostly outside the car whenever i fill the gas tank.i never overfill.the smell exists even when i don't fill to the very top.the garage has a strong smell of gasoline whenever i fill the car with gas and park the car in the garage.i am afraid the gasoline fumes may ignite and blow-up my house.

After filling up the car with gasoline, i can smell the distinct odor of gasoline from outside the vehicle around the rear passenger door area (driver's side).i believe that fuel is leaking from the fuel filter sender unit, which is located under the backseat.a new story showing the problem is here: http://www.wsbtv.com/news/news/local/mercedes-owners-find-gasoline-pooling-backseat/ndbzm/.mercedes is replacing these components as described innhtsa action number : ea13003. I went to a mercedes dealership (downtown los angeles motors) and showed the service consultant a print out ofnhtsa action number : ea13003.he explained that my vehicle is not covered by this action number.i called mercedes corporate and was told that my vehicle is not covered. I believe that my vehicle has the same sender unit that is described innhtsa action number : ea13003, so i do not understand why mercedes is claiming my vehicle is exempt from this important safety fix.i would like mercedes to replace the sender unit and any components that are leaking gasoline.

I have a strong smell of gas after filling up tank. Noticed very strong when sitting in garage overnight.

The car had a seriously strong order inside the cabin of gasoline every time i would fill up the car. To the point of causing nausea every time i drive the car. I had to stop driving the car for a while because the order was too strong inside the cabin. I eventually took a look under the rear seat notice that beneath the driver side rear seat was a fuel sending unit with a bad seal and gasoline fumes would pour rapidly into the cabin of the car and cause a serious order.

Fuel vapor leek around the fuel tank. If tank is filled beyond 3/4 a strong odor of gas permeates the cabin as well as the immediate area surrounding the car. Can not keep in an enclosed garage for fear of explosion.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that after refueling, there was a strong gasoline odor inside of the vehicle due to a fuel leak from under the front passenger's seat. Please help to encourage mercedes benz to replace to new gas tank part #211-470-0502,for all their cars that have this defective gas tank part# 211-470-4201!on 10-24-2012 i came into mercedes benz dealership because i smelled gas and oil.the dealership misdiagnosed the gas smell to be the sending units, replacing them. List: (211-470-40-94 auxiliary pu, 211-471-05-79 seal ring, 5088 parts cleaner). Then on jan 28, 2013, when i came in for my annual inspection, the dealership said that the fuel tank was leaking and said that needed to be replaced.mercedes benz dealership had misdiagnosed the sending units when it should have been the gas tank on 10-24-2012.mercedes benz, old gas tank part # 211-470-4201, replaced by new gas tank part 211-470-0502.the reason why this is so important that mercedes benz replace all tanks out there is because it only takes a small spark from rubbing your foot on the carpet, to an accident or lighting up a cigarette for this to create an explosion, because the gas tank is in the back seat of the car.i have two invoices that i paid for bad parts and replacing a defective gas tank on this mercedes benz. I am very concerned that mercedes benz has cars on the road that are an accident away from blowing up! a gas tank that is leaking gas in the back seat of my car is not something i would have paid over $56,000 for when i purchased my car! what about all the cars that were sold and all the people who don't even know and may be in danger?please look into the defective gas tank that was put on all the 2006 mercedes e350 cars.this should be recalled and replaced at expense of mercedes benz!

After refueling the car to a full tank of gas, i began to smell a strong odor of gasoline in and around the vehicle parked in my garage. This happened after repeated fill ups. I took the car to the mercedesbenz dealership and was told the problem was bad purge valve which was replaced for approximately $300. The problem has continued and i am now being told by the dealer that the fuel tank, lines and other components need replacing for estimated $3500. I was told by the dealership service manager that this was due to the age of the car and that there had been no recalls or prior complaints, to his knowledge, of this similar complaint. I have now learned that the nhtsa has been investigating this same problem in this year and model car for over 2 years and there is a class action lawsuit filed against mercedes benz for this same issue.

Fuel smell inside the vehicle every time full tank is filled.heavy fuel smell inside and outside the vehicle.

Massive fuel smell inside car became sick from fumes fear of possible explosion .still cannot drive without windows being open..had to purchase new car and park e350 as under these conditions car was undriveable pooling fuel in back seat area.

Strong smell of gas inside the car sitting for any length of time while on or off, regardless of fuel level.

Fuel tank leaking fuel at vent hose in top of tank. The complete gas tank had to be replaced. This was discovered after safety complaint odi number 10476789 was filed outlining another severe gas tank leak.i followed the servicing dealer's instruction for eliminating gas smell from the vehicle by leaving windows open while vehicle was garaged and driving with the windows down following my own instincts for survival. However, the gas smell did not dissipate. I continued to smell gas when i would approach the vehicle; and the gas odor would get stronger the longer the vehicle sat.i took the vehicle back to the dealer and the 2nd leak was discovered, prompting them to replace the entire gas tank. The severe fumes have created allergy and sinus irritation issues for me; and a phobia of driving the vehicle, especially when cigarettes are thrown from vehicles in front of me.i am so afraid that my vehicle will explode with me inside of it...just imagine!

Leaking fuel tank. Vehicle isexcellent condition, very well maintained, with only 65,000 miles.i took my car into the mercedes dealership for its regular maintenance service.i had just filled the gas tank prior to taking it to the dealership.the technician noticed a strong gas smell around the car.upon inspection, the dealer mechanic noted a leak in the top of the gas tank, and recommends replacing the fuel tank. Other than this defect, the fuel tank is in good physical condition.i called a number of local mercedes mechanics for price comparison and this appears to be a "known" problem with this make and model.the repair is approximately $2,000!due to the safety issue involved, i have no other choice but to replace the fuel tank.

Began to notice a significant fuel smell outside the rear tire on the driver's side of the vehicle.it is so strong that when it is enclosed in the garage, we are afraid a pilot light could ignite a fire.

Gas fumes and gas leak after filling tank. Dealer states car needs a new fuel tank, fuel line and sensors and estimates repairs of $2700.00.

Car smells of gas. I read many complaints on the 2006 e class, with the same issue.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that while approaching the vehicle, she smelled an overpowering gasoline odor being emitted from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was confirmed that the fuel tank seam had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the issue and informed the contact that the dealer would be handling the repair costs however, the dealer stated that the manufacturer would handle the repair costs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unavailable and the current mileage was 74,000.

Smells like gas in the interior of the vehicle and stronger smell in the trunk. Smells more when it's full of gas.theres no leak in fuel pump sending units.

Gas leaking cannot be fixed might lead to fire or explosion because of gas evaporated stronger day after day.

The passenger compartment has a very strong smell of gasoline to the point of feeling dizzy in my 10 minute commute to and from work. This started a few months ago and has gotten progressively worse by the week. What appears to be a gasoline leak has gotten so bad that now even the outside of the car smells like gasoline. I've had to resort to driving with the windows open and parking my car outside the garage for fear of either passing out when driving or creating a fire hazard in my garage.

There is a very bad fuel smell coming out of the car. Inside the vehicle is not smelly but the exterior smells pretty bad. Scared that these fuel vapors a hazard and wondering if there is a recall on that. Car is 2006 model.

Extreme smell of fuel when making sharp or extended turns (freeway on/off ramps). Especially, when full tank is full. Called local dealer and mbusa was told this is not covered under the 15 year ' fuel leak' extended warranty!please note the puddlingof fuel near the bottom of wire harness in picture attached.

Reference nhtsa action number: pe12001. Smell fuel after filling tank. Smell noticeable outside car. Smell would go away when fuel level drops. 6/22/12, during normal maintenance visit at dealer, i mentioned fuel smell. They found fuel smell coming from a leaking fuel pump o-ring seal. They replaced the o-ring on the top of the fuel tank. I filled the tank 5 days later. Smelled fuel again. I removed the back seat and opened the fuel pump access port. The well around the fuel pump housing was full of fuel. 7/5/12, returned car to dealer. They said that the tank was "warped" and needed to be replaced. The leak seems to have stopped, but fuel had leaked onto the insulation under the back seat. The interior of the car now reeks of gasoline, almost to the point of not being able to drive due to smell.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that while refueling, the fuel started to leak back out. Also, strong fuel fumes emitted at the rear and inside the vehicle rear seat. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 144,500.

Strong gasoline smell when car has a full tank of gas, smell goes away when gas is down to 3/4 full

Strong odor of gasoline fuel inside and outside of my vehicle, particularly after refilling the fuel tank. The odor subsided after driving my car for some distance thereby lowering the fuel level in the tank. I tell my daughter to fill the tank to about 3/4 full to avoid the odor. The odor is very strong when we park the vehicle in our garage and thanks be to god that we don't smoke. We park the car outside the garage when my daughter come home. Someone told me that there was a recall on fuel filter/sender, cracks in the pressurized outlet fitting of the fuel filter/sender. Will you please let me know about this situation as soon as you can.

Noticed gas leaking onto rear tire during refueling.dealer dropped tank and found leaking fuel tank neck.

After my wife, filled up the vehicle there was a very strong fuel smell both in the cabin and the trunk. The smell goes away after the fuel level is reduced as a result of driving. However, as every time the tank is filled up (never top the fuel tank) there is a very strong smell. This has caused my wife being light headed and sick after about 10-15 minutes of driving. She has to lower the window when driving. Fuel is a carcinogen and very dangerous to human health.

Heavy gas smell inside and outside vehicle. Fuel leaking from defective elbow hose connection allowing gas to leak inside the vehicle under the back seat insulation and fuel cover; fuel traveled outside of the vehicle by way of dripping from underneath the back of the vehicle along the exhaust pipe causing strong gas fumes when parked and while driving.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz e350. While driving various speeds, the "reduce braking power" warning message displayed. The contact stated that the sentro sonic brake control unit failed. In addition, the fuel tank under the driver's seat fractured and spilled fuel in the vehicle. Centennial imports in pensacola, florida was made aware of the failure and diagnosed that the sentro sonic brake control unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 104,000.

There is fuel leaking and flooding on top of the driver side fuel sender unit underneath the rear driver side seat where it is located at the fuel tank. This was previously a nhtsa fuel leak investigation for these with the 2003-2008 e class vehicles which was later closed due to a recall being issued. My vin does not seem to be part of the recall group, however, the problem remains the same as everything detailed in the report and findings of the investigation done by the u. S. Department of transportation national highway traffic safety administration for report vrtc-dcd-3206 ea13-003 in dec 2014. (also attached). The fuel seaps out to the top of the sending unit due to a failed pressure sensor or other part in the system when the tank is full. When the tank is later less full as a result of consumption, there is no longer an issue with fuel spilling out of the top and fumes getting into the cabin. Video of the area wiped shows how it immediately returns to the top. The photo attached is of the fuel coming back after being wiped up.

The vehicle leaks gas when the tank is filled. It seems to drip internally and can be heard as drops. The accumulated gas then evaporates and it has a very strong smell. In the garage, the smell is extremely strong. No wet areas under the car. Gas seems to collect on some of the plastic covers under the vehicle and close to the exhaust. Appears to be more pronounced rear/driver side. If this gas got in contact with the exhaust it could case a serious and possibly fatal fire.

For several months there has been a strong odor of gasoline after fueling the vehicle. The odor has become steadily worse and we took the vehicle to the dealership for assistance. We were told that the fuel tank was cracked and had to be replaced. When i inquired how this could have occurred, i was told it could be due to impact or trauma (which is impossible as the vehicle was not involved in any incident). Was informed that it would cost $2,300.00 to repair vehicle. Called mb-usa and asked for assistance. Was informed that there was not a recall on the fuel tank and i would have to pay the cost.as the vehicle was unsafe, i had the work performed and received a 10% "goodwill" discount.picked up vehicle and drove a short distance and continued to smell fuel.called dealership and they came to pick-up. Acknowledged that they did not tighten a clamp or something.we picked it up again and the odor was persistent. Immediately called the dealership back and we subsequently traded the vehicle in.bottom line.... I do not think that a fuel tank should fail on a vehicle with less than 90,000 miles. I have the old tank and believe that mb should reimbursement for the cost of the tank.

The car was smelling like gasoline inside and outside especially after filling up the full tank. When i lifted theback seat and opened the cover where the fuel pump is there was a gasoline everywhere overflowing the fuel pump. There were also marks of gasoline on the bottom of the car (left rear side), on the plastic and parts of the exhaust system. This is a health concern for all passengers breathing the air filled with gasoline fumes and also a fire hazard in case the gasoline leaking outside the tank gets in contact with a spark on the road. I took the car to the mercedes benz dealership and they said it would cost me $3,800 to fix the problem. They would change the fuel pump and the entire tank. I tried calling the corporate to let them know that i have read other similar complaints and that this is a safety issue but they refused to help and said its due to the age of the car.

I purchased my mercedes e350 in november of 2008.i began noticing a strong fuel odor every time i would fill the tank, which would dissipate after a few days. Since the odor would go away within a few days, i didn't realize that it was a safety concern.i took the car into the mercedes dealership for oil changes and such and they would always mention a long list of items requiring preventative maintenance, but never mentioned anything about the fuel tank (although the gas smell was obvious at times).in june of 2012, my husband began driving the mercedes to work.he smelled the odor immediately upon filling causing him massive headaches. Also, he noticed gas leaking under the car on thedriver's side near the rear tire whenever he filledup the tank. A mechanic investigated the problem, and discovered a puddle of gasoline upon removing the rear seat. I could not believe the amount of gasoline that had pooled inside the cabin of the car.it was decided that thesending units needed to be replaced. Mercedes replaced the sending units, and knowingly sent us on our way without correcting the problem. Replacing the sending units did not resolve the issue. Heavy leakage continued, and the odor of gas became overwhelming as the temperatures remained in the 100's. When the car was returned to mercedes, they informed us of a leak in the gas tank and quoted us $2600+ for repairs. The mercedes service technician stated that our problem was not uncommon, especially with the arizona heat.i had been driving the car unknowingly for approximately four years with the fuel tank issue becoming increasingly worse and consequently, my husband and i have been unable to conceive a child.

On 11/20/12, i filled up my car and got a car wash.the car wash attendant asked if i had spilled a can of gas or was transporting a can of gas in my car.he said that there was a strong odor of gas coming from my car.my car was wet, so i could not differentiate water from gas on the outside.i started driving home when i realized the smell of gasoline was coming from inside my car.my child was in the car with me.we were about a mile from home.i kept the windows open.i parked my car and put cardboard beneath it trying to find the location of the fuel leak/odor.i went inside to find a diagram of the gas tank location when i realized this was not an isolated problem with my mercedes.several people had similar experiences with their mercedes.there were several internet forums related to leaking fuel tanks in their mercedes.i later learned that gas was leaking inside of my car under my child's car seat with a cigarette lighter in the back of the car.it was a frightening moment for me as a mother.i should have had my car towed, but i did not realized how unsafe the situation was until i arrived home. I tried contacting my local and corporate mercedes dealerships to see if there was a safety recall.there was not.they asked me to drive my car to their dealership.i lost all confidence and trust in mercedes after my phone conversations.i bought a mercedes because of their reputation for caring about safety.the mechanic who diagnosed and fixed the car wrote "removed and replaced fuel tank.assembly - leak around vent assembly not serviceable".he also commented that he was surprised that the local mercedes dealership had so many gas tanks in stock when he called.he said the replacement part was different or redesigned.updated 12/27/12 updated 12/31/2012

Strong gas odor coming from inside the vehicle after filling up.dealership states, no active recalls and are unable to source the odor.

I drove about 15 miles from my home to my work on the interstate highway 10 in the west of los angeles. Simonson mercedes authorized repair shop service advisor yahoum moe called me to present a quote for repair , i visited the shop on august 4, 2015. The ro number 360666 for the quote amount is $8608.50. Even if the fire damage is very significant, the service advisor did not explain me the cause reason of fire and abnormal disconnection of fuel line, which is located at the driver side and isolated from the engine, for the leakage of gasoline to fire.

Fuel smell inside carwe found that top fuel tank has several cracksand fuel leaks through them ,we find out that it happened to lot of that car owners.

I needed to replace my gasoline tank in my mercedes benz when the smell from gasoline fumes became overwhelming.i had the smell, especially after i filled up the tank for several years and was always told that nothing was wrong and that a gasoline smell after filling up is normal.when i took in the car because i could not drive it any longer because of the severe smell,i was told that my gas tank had a leak and needed to be replaced.i was also told this was very unusual.the gas tank has been replaced and i have had no gasoline smell since then.

After refilling gas tank, there is strong odor of gasoline, this usually disappears as the gas is consumed, but itpresent as long as the tank is above 3/4 full. This has been a constant occurrence since purchasing the vehicle from mb of austin in 2009.

I purchased this car two months ago from auto dealer who gave me copy of car fax report.no problems were indicated.after filling car up with gas (not topping it off) there is an extremely strong smell of gas inside and especially outside the back of the car.the smell goes away after the gas tank reaches 3/4 full.i recently found out that the previous car owner had the car serviced at the mercedez benz dealership 6 months prior to my purchase.the dealership told the owner that the fuel system was leaking but the previous owner refused to have it repaired.this was not noted in the car fax report - only that there were no service issues.i requested that the fuel system be repaired under the 15 year extended warranty but mercedez benz says that the car is not covered under the extension.

Vehicle often smells of gas fume. This problem has occurred intermittently since i first owned the car in 2012.it is very severe sometimes .i was unable to determine the source of the problem until the fuel pump began to malfunction and i took the car to a mechanic who informed that this was a known issue with this particular model vehicle.

Very strong fuel (gas) smell in cabin. Will not go away.smells like gas in cabin.

After filling up the vehicle there is a very strong fuel smell both in the cabin and the trunk. The smell goes away after the fuel level is reduced as a result of driving. However, as every time the tank is filled up (never top the fuel tank) there is a very strong smell. This has caused me being light headed and sick after about 10-15 minutes of driving. Fuel is a carcinogen and very dangerous to human health.

Noticed strong fuel smell in cabin after filling tank - took car to dealer and was quoted over $700 to replace fuel level sender and seals. Problem causes unsafe level of flammable and toxic gasoline vapor to build up in car due to evaporation of pool of leaked fuel on top of tank (located under rear seat). Appears to be common on '03 to '09 w211 body style, but mb offers no help unless car was sold in states requiring pzev certification.

After getting out of my vehicle, i noticed a strong smell of fuel coming from the rear bottom of my vehicle. There is a large leak somewhere in the fuel system. This now occurs every time i get near the vehicle but is strongest after the vehicle has been driven. It now also smells like fuel in the vehicle once the vehicle is stopped. It is not so noticeable when driving and the ac is on. The smell is so strong that i think it would ignite if somebody walks by with a cigarette. The car is now parked until i am able to fix it. Too dangerous to drive.

When i fill the gas tank to full, the gas smell is very strong inside/outside of car.

When i fill up the gas tank and start driving i can smell gas inside of vehicle, i looked under car and the rear drivers side is wet and smells like gas.kind of scared that the car might start on fire.what can i do?is there a recall?i have never had this happen on any vehicle i owned before.what will happen if i get in a accident?

Strong fuel smell ininside (and outside) particularly after filling it up with gas.find gasoline on top of fuel sending unit.

Fuel leaks and strong odor of gasoline both inside and outside of their vehicle particularly after refueling.

Fuel pump leaking fumes (and fuel?).while parked and preparing to come home the fuel pump failed and the car refused to start.it will not be repaired unless it is under the extended warranty.i am trying to learn if it will be covered under a extended warranty.

Check engine light comes on shortly after fill up of gasoline. Light goes out when tank is about 1/2. Repeats at next fill up. Check engine code is p0456: evap system very small leak.

After filling gas at the shell gas station i got on to the 101 freewayand suddenly the insides of the vehicle started smelling gasoline, it was so bad that i had to open the windows and pull over. I felt like i will pass out because of the intensity of the smell.

Strong odor of gasoline fuel inside and outside of the vehicle after refilling the tank. Odor went away after driving some distance thereby lowering the fuel level in the tank. M-b of tampa and mb of usa refused to make warranty repair fuel leakage problem due my pzev vehicle (with option 917) was sold in florida (not in 10 states which have "0 emission requirements"). As per summary of o.d.i. "in letter dated september 4, 2014, mercedes has notified agency (odi nhtsa) that it will extend the original warranty coverage to 15 years and unlimited mileage on "covered fuel tank components" in e-class vehicles in my 2003-2009 and cls-class vehicles in my 2006-2011." looks-like mercedes dropped out of the general list of the my 2003 through 2009 e-class all pzev vehicles (with option 917) manufactured for sale or lease in the united states, but sold to customers by m-b official dealers in the states, which do not have "0-emission" requirements.

Fuel smell inside cabin. Was told fully covered on extended warranty due to tsb no. P-47-10-63 parts covered are fuel tank, fuel filter/sender, fuel pump, gasket, seals and retention rings. Dealer calls to say it is the fuel sensor and is not covered! and cost is 1400.00. Fuel sensor is sitting on top of the fuel filter/sender and is plugged into it!!! how can your agency allow mb to skirt covering such a closely related part in this safety investigation by the odi????

Car has check engine light come on, diagnosed to have balance shaft failure. This is a well known defect that happens to many cars with this engine. Mercedes was aware since 2007, but refuses to correct the problem, only offers to give 'free' parts. Dealer says would cost $4500 to $6000 for labor to fix. Mercedes should issue a recall to fix this problem.

Vibration when cornering also at certain speeds.

I initially had issues with the transmission slipping then there were engine issues compounding the problem. Re the transmission, my first occurrence was when i was about to enter a very busy intersection and my car would barely move. My mechanic explained later that the car was stuck in 3rd gear so i could not get my normal forward movement. He told me if it happened again to turn my engine off, count to ten and turn it back on. Fortunately he told me this because the next times it happened i was on lincoln blvd. In marina del rey, ca. And my car would not accelerate at all. One time i was at a red light so had time to turn it off and on. The next time i had to coast into a very small center divider that was growing smaller and with traffic flying by on my side and oncoming i hadto turn off my engine, count to ten and turn it on. This caused a lot of angst since i had cars flying by and at me while doing this. There have been many other instances. I am getting no cooperation from mbz.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350.the contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a complete stop, the vehicle would not respond.neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. A local mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure.the vehicle was not repaired.the approximate failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was approximately 61,000. The vin was unavailable.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. While driving 60 mph with the cruise control engaged, the rear wheels suddenly locked up and the vehicle began to skid uncontrollably. The contact was able to downshift into first gear. The contact pulled over to the shoulder of the highway. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was able to slowly drive in first through fourth gears successfully. As soon as the contact shifted into fifth gear, the vehicle performed as if the brake pedal were depressed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of this failure. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 120,000.

Takata recall , oil leak ,electrical harness

At 73,480 miles this 2006 mercedes has a faulty conductor plate valve that needs to be replaced.this faulty conductor plate/speed sensor causes the car not to shift from 1st to 2nd gear and instead spins without going into gear. This vehicle has been in motion while this occurs. At stop light, tried to accelerate forward and could not. Shut car off and restarted. Cars in back of me proceeding = dangerous situation to be turning off ignition and restarting car only to move forward! there were also previous occurrences of the same incident.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that while driving 45 mph and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not respond. The contact had to shift gears from drive to park and back to drive before the vehicle would respond. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where the contact was advised that the transmission had failed. The failure was not reported to the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 89,000.

Thetransmission conductor plate sensor is defective. I was stuck in either first or second gear. I learn that it was in limp mode. The 722.9 transmission conductor plate sensor is known to have these issue as i learned from many mercedes owner that have the 7speed tranny. Please advise on this subject to take action on recalling the service for my car. I have 2006 e350,2014ml550,2007 s550. These cars all have the code for the same issue. The code is p0717 and p0718. Thank you for taking action into this matters.

I was driving my vehicle when suddenly the vehicle began to stop and the transmission appeared to be frozen.as i put my foot on the accelerator the car would increase speed then it would again slow down.when i pulled over i was able to switch off the ignition and restart the engine and resume driving.once i got to my destination i was able to put the car in reverse with no problem.when i got ready to travel back home i began to experience the same problem.however, i was now able to only drive the car using manual shift or drive in 1st or 2nd gear at 20 to 30 mph.i had the car evaluated by mercedes in atlanta and was told there was some problem with some type of transmission pump and that i will need a new transmission.my car has been maintained by mercedes since i purchased this vehicle.i have never had any trouble with previous cars that i have driven for 10 plus years.please investigate this matter for i was told this is not unusual for this vehicle.a new transmission will cost me $6500.i can buy another car for that price.i did have an extended warranty but it has now expired.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for a routine inspection. The mechanic discovered that the crankshaft position sensor was faulty. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was confirmed that the crankshaft sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,700.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz e350. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the contact heard a grinding noise as the transmission slipped. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the balance shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 79,000. The vin was unavailable.

I was driving on the highway and could hear that the engine didn't sound right, it was revving at a higher rpm than normal. I pulled over to see what was wrong and it continued to do this every time i tried to accelerate. I turned the car off, turned it back on and then only had 3rd. Gear available. Nothing else. I later found out that it's called "limp mode" it wouldn't go faster than 40mph and nothing else worked, just 3rd. Gear and reverse. After doing extensive research i learned this is a problem with most 7-speeds and the amount of people having or had this issue is appalling. Apparently mercedes knew of this matter all along and did nothing. My car is currently at the dealership now and i have to pay $1,600 to have the conductor plate and valve body fixed. I'm a single mom, self employed, but still a single mom. This isn't right and mercedes should bend over backwards to remedy this."

We, my wife and 3 son's were coming down from big bear when it started snowing.snow got heavy and i was approaching a sharp curve slowed down to about 8miles made the turn nd slowly pressed on the gas peddle, the rpms went up but the car did not accelerate.i had to stop put thecar in park then turn it of, turn it back on, put it in gear and accelerate slowly.as i looked in the side mirrors, i noticed cars skidding sideways and some hitting the side of the mountain, there was a large 4 wheel drive in backof me so it hid the make of my car and license plate.this has also happened on the freeway when i have to come to a complete stop, then the car will not move but the rpms rev up.also in the mornings when i go to work the car down shifts extremely hard, seems the transmission is going to break along with my collarbone.please something has to be done about this mercedes benz has now about the defects please before people die.

Vehicle went into low gear unsuspectingly, and steering became difficult vehicle went into limp mode without and warning. The contact owns a 2006 mercedes e350. While drivingapproximately 5 mph in reverse the driver heard a grinding noise. The grinding noise was also present when making turns at approximately 25 mph. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated the transfer case had to be flushed. The failure continued and the transfer case was flushed three times. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated there was a manufacturers recall but the vin was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 33,000.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes e350.the contact stated that the vehicle would shutter, jerk and lunge forward abnormally when traveling over 28 mph.the dealer and manufacturer were notified, but denied any assistance with repairs to the defect.the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 62,000.

Cars will not shift.it wont go pass 3rd gear and almost crashed.brought car to dealer and per dealer, car is known to have the problem but not recall.had to pay over $4000 to get the car fixed

On the way to work, the check engine light went on.after a few miles, at an intersection, my car jerked and i didn't have enough time to make the signal light.i decided to go back.after i shifted to reverse, the car didn't move back and stopped there totally.i had to turn off the engine and restarted, the car worked.i took the car to the dealer right away, it needs "entire valve body/conductor plate assy-replace and retest"and total cost is $2000.

Having returned from a weekend trip, i started the vehicle and let it warm up for a few minutes. Put the gear selector in drive and off i went, so i thought. My vehicle was actually in limp mode. Several minutes later a check engine light with code p2725 "pressure control solenoid e electrical". In other words, conductor plate and valve body. This is a common problem with 722.9 transmissions. I had the transmission serviced by a mercedes dealership on 6/27/2013, transmission flush and new filter ($553.38). Three months later, boom! kaput! limp mode! valve body toasted! dealer quote of $1800 and $2100 to replace valve body. This is a common problem. Mercedes should foot the bill.

Check engine light comes on and when check indicates cam sensor problem. I was told that mercedes knows about this problem.

Automatic transmission is malfunctioning, fairly consistent at low speeds.

I have had my mercedes e350 for about 6 months.i purchased used and the car currently has 70,000 miles on it.i got a check engine light and have taken the car to 3 mechanics.the fault codes comeup as p00017 and p00018.they are telling me i need to remove the engine and rebuild the camshaft (estimated cost $5,000 -$6,000).i have researched this on line and found many other people with this same vehicle that have had the same result.i have spoken with my local mercedes dealer and they are aware of the problem but offer no assistance to repair.

My mercedes benz e-350 has intermittently experienced problems with its 7-speed transmission.the transmission locks up in a high gear and will not shift either automatically or manually.the only way to clear the problem is to turn off the engine and restart.twice in the last week it has resulted in near collisions.dealer fix of topping off transmission fluid and resetting the computer doesn't solve problem.

Transmission failed on 07-26-2005 left me stranded on street in hillside nj car had to be towed to dealership.they indicated it was a computer problem malfunction and replaced computer.transmission still having slipping occasionally svc dept said they find nothing wrong.mb ignoring my request for a new car.

2006 e mercedes benz at random, in an attempt to accelerate after slowing down or stoppin the vehicle will not accelerate to sufficient speed. Mercedes benz has not been able to locate the problem. This has presented a danger for others and myself on several occasions.

I purchased a 2006 mercedes e350 in august 13 and today with 1175 miles on the odometer; the transmission failed.i was driving about 30 mph and all of a sudden; the engine high revved like it went into neutral. The vehicle was stuttering like the clutch was slipping (the car is a automatic) and was barely moving; i pulled off to the side and contacted sos system. There was no check engine failures on the obc.

The transmission (7 speed) in my mercedes e350 wagon experienced a "valve body" failure that disables all steering boost, brake boost, abs system, esp systems and transmission control. This failure if it occurs during travel will make in almost impossible to steer or brake or control the transmission. The electronic brake and stability controls systems fail. The failure of my vehicleoccurred while stopped but, had i been in travel i would not have had much control and would not have been able to respond to normal traffic conditions in a safe way.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes benz e350 wagon.whenever the contact places the vehicle into wagon mode, she is unable to adjust the passenger seat in order to allow a passenger to safely travel in the vehicle.the dealer stated that the vehicle was manufactured in that particular manner.the issue was noticed ever since the vehicle was purchased.the current mileage was 18,000 and failure mileage was 10,000.updated 07/28/09 the consumer stated the passenger seat would not adjust. Takata recall.abs malfunction, brake sensor

While i was driving on a busy streeta red prompt of braking system fail decrease pressure esp goes on and i have to push brakes all the way down and use emergency braking system to stop! dash says service brakes. Brakes were changed as well as sensors and new auxiliary battery which is very dangerous if auxiliary battery goes out braking system fails and car is hard to stop.

Defective abs system, sbc system. Sensotronic brake control system not functioning.

The brake system fails during normal driving . Sbc pump fails suddenly. And warning massage tells you to turn of the car. Very dangerous situation . If some body miss the warning for few second he could kill some body . Never seen before.

This vehicle is equipped with sensotronic brake control that has a service threshold. When this threshold is reached the brake system defaults to non power assisted hydraulic mode to the front wheels only. This occurs without any prior warning and results in increased stopping distance. Mercedes benz has issued a service bulletin s142.46-p-0012a which addresses this issue. Mercedes stopped installing this system in 2006. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed.

Driving on i-270 at 55 mph suddenly brakes stopped functioning at all, dashboard turned red with the message reduced braking powerdepress brake pedal fully, but there was no braking power at all. Almost lost control.... Scared i was going to hit another car or involve in accident... Vehicle was in motion.

After driving my 2006 e350 for 30min return home back up parking into my drive way my brake has reduced power.error light "service brake visit workshop" then car will not start but in the next morning, it starts?it is the same problem as the safety recall #20055110001 for 2005 but my model is 2006 not yet recall.

The contact owns a 2006 mercedes-benz e350. While starting the vehicle, the abs indicator was constantly illuminated. Whiledriving various speeds, the brakes independently applied. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who advised the contact to call the mercedes-benz dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that a diagnostic test was needed. The vehicle was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fee. The failure mileage was approximately 162,000.

A recall was placed on this vehicle to repair the baking system. I've complained about this matter with mbusa. We never received the notice, as a result, i'm having trouble with my brakes, and warning signs appear on my dashboard. They claimed that the warranty recall ended. They try to close my case by offering me $250.00 to go away. This becoming a safety hazard to continue this way. They sent me to one of their repair mb dealership foothill california. Complete repair cost was $3000. I've owned several mercedes. I cant get any help. Warning light:reduced braking power - depress pedal fully.i understand mb service bulletin s142.46-p-0012a addresses this issue but i can't get a copy on the net.brakes fail until restart car.dangerous. Recall the brake system for all of these cars.mb stopped using this defective product.vehicle was stationary when warning light went on.but dangerous to move car off of driveway

I experienced immediate brake failure while driving with no advanced warning. Received red light warning messaging stating reduced braking ability and to visit workshop. Immediately stepped fully on brake pedal with minimal to no response. Car eventually slowed down to a stop. A significant collision was avoided because i was driving around 15 mph on a residential side-street with no other traffic at the time. Had i been traveling on a major road at 35-40mph with moderate traffic i would have been unable to avoid a serious collision. Mercedes benz has recognized this braking issue and ordered an extended 10 year warranty with unlimited miles on the hydraulic sbc system, but i was told my 2006 vehicle was "out of warranty" by the dealership and would need to pay $2275 for repairing the hydraulic sbc. This problem is an immediate safety concern given the acute failure of the braking system and the high likelihood of a serious accident.

Brake failure while driving on freeway. Reduced braking message , esp message, and 'stop' on speedometer!

When driving the vehicle and error code says depressed brake pressure esp and brakes go out call dealership they said there is record of it being fixed in 2005 but it still does not work.

The brakes on this car failed without warning while traveling on interstate at high speed.i have contacted mercedes and they have agreed to pay the cost of the spc brake unit underwarranty; however, the costs of labor is very high and i have to cover it.i am a retired elderly combat disabled war veteran with limited funds and believe mercedes should recall these dangerous vehicles and and cover the entire costs.the vehicle is currently under repair at fields mercedes in lakeland florida

The sbc brake system on my auto is showing a warning to send the car to the dealer. They told me i needed a new abs system $2200.00. Many mercedes owners are having the same problems with the sbc brake system. The brakes are very difficult and dangerous to work on! the hydraulics should have a lifetime warranty.

I turned on my engine and made a u-turn to travel up my street.when i completed the turn a red warning light flashed that my break system was not fully operable/take car immediately to dealer.in a few feet, my brakes failed completely, car would not stop, and emergency brakes did not work. When i put my foot on the brakes, it went to the floor; no amount of pumping stopped the car. The warning flashed "pump brakes!' i continued, to no avail, and finally, about 15 feet before the intersection, the car slowed to a stop. This occurred on monday (i had just picked up my car the friday before because the brakes were making a "squeaky-chirp like sound when pressed, after work had been done by the dealer on another issue.i took it back the same day that happened and was told there was air in the brakes; that usually, when pumped 15 times, it goes away. From then on, when i put the car in park and/or pressed the emergency brake, it continued to move forward, as though not held securely). The dealer towed it to the shop and now says my sbc system failed but there was no way to foresee or predict that problem by checking the brakes.i believe there is a severe problem with the brake system; especially given the dealer saying that there is no way to detect a problem that causes the brake system to completely fail. They now want to charge me $2000 to fix a brake problem i believe they caused when they had my car initially and/or did not identify after me taking it to them, twice, thereafter.this was a terribly frightening experience.i, my grandkids, and others on the road narrowly missed being involved in an accident and injured, or killed. Thank god i was on a residential street and the car stopped before i was forced into traffic.i saw that others online have had the same problem and can't believe no one has been killed due to this braking system issue.

Catastrophic sbc system failure. Driving on the turnpike at 65 mph suddenly brakes stopped functioning at all, dashboard turned red with the message sbc failure, depress brake pedal in full, but there was no braking power at all. Coasted, took the nearest exit and could tow the car. I was very lucky. Not a good experience to discover you have no brakes on the highway. Car is in a mechanic shop now, repair will cost over $ 2000. This brake system is a failure, mb discontinued it and went back to the traditional hydraulic system. Mb should had made a recall on this issue as they are aware and it is a failure that can not be predicted, maintenance or age apparently have no influence on the part failing otherwise mb would include the part's replacement as part of a preventive maintenance service. This is a very serious safety issue, and i have seen several people complaining about the same.

I was driving and lost all break pressure ran a red light and almost killed myself and others on the road. Not safe

Was driving the mercedes e350 on a hilly road on nov 15, 2016 when the vehicle lost pretty much all braking capability. The dash started flashing "stop reduced braking power. Depress brake pedal fully" looks like this problem is caused by a manufacturing defect on the brake pump/controller. This incident could have causes serious damage to the car and physical injury if it had occurred at higher speeds or different terrain.

Brakes failed, red warning light alerted me, i managed to stop the car on a slight incline with emerg brake help. Luckily i was going slowly on a city street. Car was towed to mercedes in richmond va .they found nothing wrong and reset the code. Said it was fine to drive.when i questioned this, they said they could bleed the brake line, even though they admitted air in the line would not activate red brakes failed warning light.mb richmond va stated that they thought the problem was the sbc unit, but because the 'wrong code' indicating the sbc unit was at fault, showed up, they were not required to perform the warranty work (good for 25 years )

Brake remain engaged when brake [foot]pedals are depressed at stop light. It only disengages after 0.5 seconds to 1.0 seconds delay. This happens every time the brakes are pressed.

Car brakes went out while driving on freeway 65 mph. Sbc red light went off and car brake was fully depressed all the way to the floor and braking took too long. Car display error message was braking power decreased. Depress brake fully. Turned off car and restarted but error message disappeared and car brakes fully again. Not good at all. Now i know that problem is lurking and can happen again anytime.very dangerous situation that could have injured me, my passenger, or another person. Totally unacceptable for any car brakes to fail just like that. Due to manufacturer incompetence.

Mercedes benz knows about the sbc unit wearing out the brakes prematurely yet has done nothing about it.there has been a software update for the brakes also, but this has nothing to do with the premature wear. This has to do with fixing a bug in the software for the brake lights to come on and for you to bring in for service. Problem is they are charging consumers for this bug fix. I had to pay $120.my current mileage is 127,000. Brakes have been replaced going on 5 times already.

There is a recall on my vehicle regarding the sunroof. Recall#2020040011. I took my vehicle to a mercedes dealer to have the situation remedied. I set an appointment for 10:00am. I arrived at 9:30am and checked my vehicle in. I sat in the dealership for 3 hours until i finally got tired of waiting for information. I then found the service advisor who was representing the work on my vehicle. I asked him what was going on with my car. He said he'd find out. He then came back to me and stated "they've been trying to get the roof open but can't", "it appears to be sealed shut". I told him yes, that's part of the recall reasoning. The bonding doesn't secure roof correctly, it could detach and cause a major issue. He then told me there's nothing they can do unless it's okay through mercedes. I showed him my letter again stating mercedes will remedy this problem. They told me they have to wait to hear from the mercedes manufacturer.i then asked him, " it took your dealership 3 hours to communicate to me that you couldn't get the roof open"?. 3 hours wait for this information? i was then told "they'll get back to me, they have my number". 24-72 hours to get me a answer! unacceptable service. Now i'm thinking, nothing will be done about this recall problem.

Complaint concerns the michelin tire no. 2255516 mxm4 95v that blew out on the sidewall while traveling at a normal rate of speed of 45 to 50 miles per hour. The tire had only been used for 30,634 miles and the blow out occurred on a highway. The blowout occurred at an area on the side of the tire that looked like a seam with the threads showing. Because the tire flattened almost immediately, this would seem to be a threat to life if the vehicle were traveling at a higher rate of speed. Also, the michelin tire is give a high consumer rating and this should--by all reports--not be happening. Thank you for your timely response.

For several times now i can smelling a strong odor of gasoline inside and outside of the car, even more so after pumping gas on the car. Sometimes i can see a small leak into the parking space.

For the past few years i have noticed a strong smell of gasoline in the garage when i fill-up my car.i got into the practice of filling-up only 3/4 of the tank and the smell of gas was less noticeable then.for the past week i have noticed the smell of gas is very strong no matter how much gas in the tank.i am very concerned.the gasoline smell gives me a headache and i am sure is not good for my health and could lead to a possible explosion.i think the manufacturer should recall and fix this defect.

The pasenger-side airbags deployed without a collision.the car was in motion and the airbags deployed without even hitting a pothole.

Vehicle often smells of gas fume. I took my vehicle to the mb dealer for a recall found on your website and carfax. They told me that it did not qualify for the recall.
