After refueling, the car has a strong gasoline odor inside and outside the car.the air brakes make a roaring noise when pressed.the air bag is deactivated.

Driving on the freeway, 61 mph, start raining hard, pouring, car slipped, turned and hit the wall on the side of the freeway heads on straight.got hit by another car on the side, after couple of turns, it stopped on the middle of the freeway.couple of side air bags deployed, the most important ones, the front air bags, driver and passenger side did not deployed.

Car started reading srs airbag malfunction (still needs to be repaired) car is sometimes unable to read how much gas is in the vehicle.car couldn't pass emissions. Check engine light on.the car smells of a strong gas odor. Unable to park the car in the garagebecause of the strong smell. Every time the tank is filled with gas the car presents a strong gas odor until it gets below half a tank. Mercedes wanted to charge me $4000.00 to have it fix so i took my car to a foreign car repair shop who charge me $1,300.00. Problem fixed, however i recently took my car to mercedes because my check engine light came back on so they charged me $2,100.00 to fix that along with regular maintenance.

After refueling, the car has a strong gasoline odor inside and outside the car. The air brakes make a roaring noise when pressed. The air bag is deactivated srs indicator remains on.

Back air bag behind driver lost air while driving. Took in to repair they thought it was air line. They repaired but same thing happened leaving repair shop at an intersection. All the light turned on to stop driving just like before. I towed back to shop.they said the wholesystem needed to all be replaced.my only reason to file this is the fear i had of getting hurt or hurting other by my vehicle just being undrivable while in motion on major intsection.this problem occured before but always when leaving my home so id just wait for the air suspension self correct. Which it had before.i was only going 15mpg or so when it gave out i was approching my right hand turn. We are available to help with more details and documentation if needed.

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes benz e320. While driving 5 mph the contact noticed that the srs light illuminated on instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the rear passenger side air bag needed to be replaced due to a bad wire connection. There were no prior warnings. The failure mileage was 56,000 and the current mileage was 57,000.

Reference!!! pe 12001.having problems previously complained about strong odor of gas from car when in garage and also kids complain of strong fume odor especially in backseat drivers side!!! now having problems w the seal of gas cap!?! some research showed that a fuel leak will make car report gas cap loose--( when it's not). Happens daily now'!!pleas create a recall-- blogs like crazy about other e class owners experiencing same exact problems'!!!

Replaced the headlight bulbs on my car.the insulation on the2 wires to the bulb crumbled on both the left and right when i touched the wires.wiring is defective.this is a safety issue since the wires could touch causing the fuse to blow and cause the headlights to go out while driving at night.

Crankshaft position sensor dealer supplied part failed on replacement resulting in sudden stalling in moving traffic following making left turn

While traveling on the washington dc beltway in the fast lane, in heavy traffic, the engine completely shut down leaving us stranded in very heavy traffic. Needless to say, this was a very precarious position. Fortunately, police assistance arrived and called a towing service and got us out of harm's way. The problem was diagnosed as a failed crank shaft position sensor. This results in the computer turning off the ignition creating an obviously hazardous situation. I reported this to mercedes customer service, but they're reaction was that this occurs infrequently, but they were aware that it does happen. So i am notifying you for your information.

The sunroof leaks causing electrical damage.i rarely use the sunroof.maybe i have used the sunroof 5x.the sunroof should not leak after rare use.the electrical should not be damaged.apparently, the drains in the sunroof get clogged and the water drains into trunk.this is a design defect.please investigate.i notice the same issue with many others on line.thank you.

Driving south on i95 near savannah the dash lights including the brake light lit up on the dashboard and the vehicle began decelerating. Applied the emergency brake and was able to drive the vehicle to the shoulder.after the engine was shut off the vehicle could be started but could not get from park into a gear or even neutral. All four wheels were frozen and so getting the car on to the tow truck was almost impossible. Were towed to the nearest mercedes dealership where the sbc system was replaced. This took over night as the part was not available at the dealership.besides being greatly inconvenienced - we had to spend a night in a hotel, we could have been killed if this would have occurred at night. The car was serviced by mercedes since purchase new in 2004. The part should have been identified during a service call, this obviously was a recall that was kept quiet. Not informing the owners of this potentially deadly issues is a major negligence on mercedes part.

The vehicle will flood after being exposed to rain which has caused all sorts of electrical issues. I have read online where several others have filed lawsuits regarding e class mercedes for similar issues. The carā€™s interior will take on water and since thereā€™s several electrical components running along the floor board of the car they will become damaged and cause the carā€™s computers and electrical system to go crazy. I picked up my car from having the oil changed at a local service shop a few days after it was repaired and i was driving back home after the service pick up and the car completely lost power. I got out of the car and opened the trunk in which i had to do so by using the key inside of the key fob. When i opened the trunk, i noticed that there was a little bit of water in the trunk which led me to open the back door and to my surprise there was standing water behind the driver seat. I checked the driver floor and it was soaked as well. I had the car towed back to the shop where i had the oil changed and the owner did not have the available equipment to test the car. I dried the car out over the next several days and drove to a local mercedes dealership where they told me to do a full diagnostic on the car it would cost upwards of $19k. Are you kidding me? now i know from reading others stories that this isnā€™t an unknown issue. So, what do i do nowā€¦file an insurance claim? i guess that would be the next step but theyā€™ll turn around and get the money right back out of me by raising my policy rates. This is terrible. My car is a 2004 e320 with just under 65k miles on it.

Dt: purchased a new mercedes benz , 320e 2004 model.on 2 occasions on the freeway at highway speeds the engineshut down without warning.the engine shut off at once and will not crank when engine has been tried to start again.had to havevehicle towed.dealer explained he was unfamiliar with this problem.thought this may be the computer in the car.made repairs and replaced parts.about 2 weeks afterwards this happened again.took back to dealer, and this was corrected.however, was afraid this may happen again.however, has not happened 2-3 months after the repairs.the control module failed.also, consumer has continuous problems with braking system.

The ignition switch failed on my 2004 mercedes e320 wagon which only had 85k miles. If it had failed and just would not work, that would not have been such an issue, however, when it failed it left the engine on requiring me to disconnect the battery to get the car to shut down. Steps to reproduce:1) put electronic key in car2) turn key to fully on and start car3) turn key to off position and remove key from ignition entirelynote car is still on and will not shut off even after an hour.

Gas smell all the time, main computer keeps on and drains battery, brakes lights

I was driving down a paved road, went to make a left hand turn and my esp came on, vehicle shut off and almost ran me into another vehicle, which then caused me to run into the ditch. Now i'm finding out that there is a recall on the sbc unit, which is what's wrong with my car, but the recall is not showing up for my vin number. I am very, very disappointed/frustrated by mercedes. This is a very expensive part to replace. I should not have to pay out of pocket to fix my car, which is now sitting due to it not starting, especially if other same year vehicles were affected and theirs is covered under the recall. I think the entire situation is ridiculous! i will never own another mercedes!!!

I left my home in cincinnati, oh at 8:25, with a 1/2 tank of gas, drove ~ 3 miles to hwy126 and merged to 75s. I moved from the right to the middle to the left lane. After being at 50 mph ~ 2 minutes on the left lane, the car suddenly stopped. The dashboard was all lit up with warning signs, check engine, brakes and oil. I put my hazard light on, put the car in park, turned the key off, and then back on. The same warning signs came on and the car did not start. I called mercedes assistance who advised to call 911 and that a tow truck will arrive in 1 hour. I called 911 and surprisingly got a voice message that all operators are busy! a minute later an operator came on the line, she asked where i was and i told her that i was on the left (high speed lane). She asked me if i was in a black mercedes. She indicated that a dispatcheris on the way. At 8:51 i called aaa to get a towtruck earlier. They said they will come in 45 min. A car assistance van came and eventually the police car. They stopped behind my car, and tried to turn the car on and were unable to, they asked me to put it in neutral but the gear would not move. The policeman stopped the traffic on the highway, asked me to step out of the car while he managed to put the gear on neutral and asked me to sit back in the car and steer. They manually pushed the car to the right shoulder but i was not able to steer as the power steering was not working. At 9:18 the aaa truck came and towed the car to the mercedes dealership. They diagnosed the problem as a sudden failure of the crankshaft position sensor and replaced it for a charge of $463.46. I found on the web that several mercedes models have had this problem occur but there has never been a recall. The sudden complete failure of a car in the midst of rush hour traffic creating a major hazard to me and other drivers needs the attention of the nhtsa.

2004 e320 4matic wagon.engine stalled while merging to i-65 sb. Vehicle was 7qt low on oil. Vehicle was not equipped with a manual dipstick to check oil. Vehicle is equipped with flexible service system that monitors oil level, conductivity, temp, pressure. Owners manual shows that if any parameters are outside normal, or in the case of sensor/system failure, a red warning would appear on instrument cluster to instruct the driver to stop the vehicle and turn off the engine. No warning was displayed. Dealership states instrument cluster failed to communicate with central computer due to a software issue.engine must be replaced. Requested mercedes benz to replace engine and assign engineering team to address issue and issue a service campaign to prevent failure from happening to others.mercedes benz stated that they will provide no assistance.i am concerned that this issue could also fail to provide other important information (brake system, airbags, engine cooling parameters) as well.as an engineer, in my opinion, this is clearly a design flaw that needs to be addressed and should have been evaluated by a failure mode effects analysis prior to deciding to remove the manual dipstick.if instrument cluster could not communicate with central computer, it should display a warning to stop the vehicle.

I was driving a 2004 mb e-320 on the road, suddenly the lights on the dashboard were all lit up and then i lost power to the car.i made my way to the curb along industrial blvd near west sacramento.the car was towed to the mb sacramento dealership.a quick scan found a fault code.it was the crank position sensor malfunction.the dealership has to replace the sensor.

While driving my 2004 mb e320 to the local grocery store the engine stalled. I was pulling up to a red light at the time that turned green before i stopped. When i stepped on the gas to go, there was no power. I pulled to the side of the road and sat for several hours waiting for a tow truck. The local garage said i was out of gas, put ten dollars worth of gas in it, charged me $60.00 and said the car was working fine. The next time my wife took the car out, it stalled again in nearly the same place. She was not as fortunate as i was and was stuck in the middle of the road. We had it towed back to our house and i looked up the symptoms on the internet. After letting it sit for a few days, i turned the car on and let it idle. After the car reached about 75 - 80 degrees, it shut off again. It turns out that it was the crank position sensor (cps) that went bad. I bought one, learned how to replace it and the car is running fine. The safety concern here is that while driving, the car just shuts off!! there is no warning whatsoever! thankfully there was not an accident.

Dt: contact stated when stepping on the accelerator pedal the vehicle will not accelerate.this caused a safety concernbecause while merging into traffic the vehiclefailedto accelerate.this only occurred when the vehicle is stopped orwas close tostopping.the majority of the time it happened when the vehicle was started up. There was no indication as to when this will occur.ithappened approximately 30 times.the service dealer attempted to repair the vehicle once, but because it happened periodically they could not duplicate the problem.the manufacturerrefused to service the vehicle.consumer felt the problem with the vehicle could be the drive- by -wire or computer system.the right rear brake locked up while the consumer was making a right turn.this occurred after the brake had been reprogrammed.on cold morning the gps did not work properly.the leather on the driver's side air bag was peeling.the tire pressure monitoring system had to be reprogrammed. The front wheel bearing had play in it. The rear alignment was off slightly which caused the vehicle to shimmy while driving above 62 mph.on august 22, 2005 while driving a loaner mercedes benz e350 from the dealer the consumer experienced the same intermittent hesitation on acceleration as he had with his own 2004 e350.the consumer believes this hesitation problem is not isolated to vehicle.

Strong gas smell the problem fuel sending unit leaking vapor.

Replaced the headlight bulbs on my car.the insulation on the2 wires to the bulb crumbled on both the left and right when i touched the wires.wiring is defective.this is a safety issue since the wires could touch causing the fuse to blow and cause the headlights to go out while driving at night.

Wire in wiring harness to trunk lid severed, preventing third brake lamp and both license plate lamps from functioning.

Vehicle has strong gasoline odor in the passenger cabin. Appears to be similar to other complaint reports for same vehicle type (e type). No gas leakingbelow vehicle. Concerned that fire might result from spark in the cabin or near the car. Shouldn't this be a recall issue for public safety?

While driving i started smelling gas, especially when i would have just filled the tank. This smell went on for years, it got odor got stronger and stronger so finally i went and got it diagnosed and my mechanic said that i need replace my fuel pump and showed me the gasoline under the rear seat (rear driver's side) the amount of gas was so great that i called and asked my rep at mercedes if there was indeed a recall on the part and i also told him that my mechanic said that there should have been a recall on it , and still he said no. So i replaced the part on my own. Now i am smelling the fumes again, i take it that it is coming from the other side. I have to ride with my windows down and/or sunroof open to keep from getting the head-aches again.this have been ongoing for years now . I purchased the car in jan. 2008.

I noticed a strong gasoline smell inside the garage when the door is closed. I walked around the car trying to determine where it is coming from. The strongest gas smell is around the rear wheelwell on the drivers side. Three days later, the gas smell went away. Then i went to fill-up my gas tank after four days and there is the gasoline smell again inside the garage on the same location.

2004 e320 mercedes fuel smell possibly due to a recall issue of the fuel sender recall and/or fuel filler recall . I just purchased the car a couple of months ago and noticed this smell yesterday when i filled up my gas tank. I did some research and noticed that there was an emissionsrecall from mercedes about these issues. I am scared that the recall part is leaking fuel and will blow up killing my family and i.

We discovered that the car was leaking gas.we took it to the dealer who told us that the gas tank in this model had a problem and that it would be quite expensive to fix, approximately $2,000, he advised that this will likely only happen when we fill the tank and that we could prevent the problem by not filling the tank full...which we have done since but it is a great inconvenience and it scares us to think that we are driving a car with a leaking gas tank.recently we became aware that there are many, many more owners like us andthat there was a complaint process that we could use with the ntsb....i am responding within 24 of hours of knowing this.the mercedes dealer was not forthcoming about this and did not fully advise us of the seriousness of the problem and we are very disappointed. We are now experiencing issues with the car in passing emissions testing in tn (where we now live)....fl did not have an emissions testing policy.we have an estimate from a certified mercedes repair shop that it will cost almost $2,000 to fix this problem and we feel that it is a serious safety issue.

I have a fuel undercarriage leak from the rear passenger left side with a strong gas smell within the cabin of my car- this problem has been referenced many times in the mb forums and seems to be a national problem. I would appreciate a through investigation regarding this issue before a fatality ensues because of a faulty plastic piece designed by mb. This problem occurs when the tank is filled with gas, but over filled. I implore to do the right thing an implementing a recall for corrective actions.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Strong smell of gasoline present after fill ups and when car is stationary.with fumes present in the cabin, the risk of fire is severe.mercedes is aware of this problem, as is the nhtsa, so please do something about it!..updated 07/23/14

Strong odor of gasoline after each complete fill-up. This vehicle is always in the garage.and odor lingers for several days following each fill-up. I have changed theentire fuel tank assembly and the problem is still there.no smell if i fill-up to no more than 80% of the tank capacity. Date and mileage are of the first occurrence are as shown are only an estimate.

I have an issue similar to many other w211 chassis mercedes owners. The fuel tank leak/fuel odor has been going on in my car and the dealership refuses to cover the costs of repair.they quoted a ~$2000+ repair job for what's obviously a manufacture defect.

After filling up the fuel tank to full, i noticed a very strong fuel odor inside and outside of the car. Does not make any difference whether the car is moving or parked. The purge valve filter was replaced but the problem remains. I use this vehicle to transport my newborn son daily. His car seat is on the right rear of the passenger compartment, directly next to the fuel filler area.

Nhtsa action number: pe12001began smelling fuel coming from rear driver's side area (under rear seat) once fuel tank was fully filled up. The smell would persist until a little above 3/4's of the tank remaining. About two months later, when trying to fill tank up all the way, gas pump would click off before filling up (with about 2 or 3 gallons still empty in the tank). Beginning of march, the check fuel cap warning would come on in the instrument cluster. Fuel cap was replaced and still same error shows.

Filled up my car with gas. Came home, parked it in the garage. Next morning noticed a very strong fuel order in garage. Took it to mechanic and said the fuel tank was cracked and leaking gas vapors. Scared me as my natural gas water heater is in the garage as well.

Constant problems with fumes/fuel leak?? the entire passenger compartment fills with strong fumes after filling gas tank or when near empty?? have had it checked for leaks multiple times without locating any leaks ongoing problem--at times its impossible to sit in the backseat of the car the fumes are so strong!!! and the garage is filled with the smell of gasoline yet no leak or spill anywhere???

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes benz e320. The contact stated the vehicle was being examined by an authorized dealer for routine maintenance when he was informed there was a fuel leak coming from the fuel sending unit. The contact was also informed there was a failure within the seal of the fuel sending unit. The manufacturer was not aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were 102,000.

A strong odor of gasoline emanates from car after filling it up with gasoline.had a mechanic trouble shoot and it was determined to be a leak in the fuel sensor which was causing gasoline to puddle on top of fuel tank underneath the back seat of the automobile.

Strong smell of fuel when parked in the garage. This has continued to grow worse, and is very noticeable after fueling. There appears to be fuel pooling under the car as well as in the cabin under the rear seats.

There is a very strong smell of gasoline fumes emanating from the automobile, especially outside the auto it seems from around the driver's side and rear of the car.it is there especially after filling the gas tank but continues even afterwards.the odor is very strong and there is obviously a problem.

At every refuel, i would smell the gas fumes in the cabin of the car and outside of the car.the smells were strongest in the back seat of the car.

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes e-320. The contact stated that he was experienced a strong odor of gasoline after refueling the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or independent mechanic. The manufacture was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 92,000. Updated 07/15/14 ma

Strong odor of gasoline after each fill-up.this is a garaged vehicle and the odor lingers for several days following each fill-up.it is an ongoing problem.the problem has been occurring for a long time and the date/mileageof first occurrence as shown above are estimates.

Inside of my vehicle began smelling strong gasoline odor presenting a fire hazard.i found severe leaking at seam at top of gas tankunder rear seat of my vehicle & was required to replace gas tank assembly, fuel pump sensor, fuel pump & seals at cost of $2,014.00.i was told that a class action suit against mercedes benz involving year 2003 & later 320e autos for this issue was in progress in atlanta, ga. However florida cars (owners) were excluded on a technicality!!.this danger exists on all cars, wherever located and should be immediately corrected by mercedes.the danger of explosion and deathis imminent in any of these autos.mercedes is and has been aware of this problem for quite some time as was brought out in the class action suit and under our transportation safety rules should have recalled the autos years ago.this is a national problem, and florida auto owners should be properly compensated for their loss as should be any other owners where ever located.your advise andassistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated..

After i filled full tank on my car, i noticed after several hours, there was gas leaking below the rear passenger's seat. There were a lots of fuel that were spilled, and my whole garage smelled strong odor of gasoline.

After filling fuel tank, fuel leaking from top of the fuel tank into panel under the rear seat.

Filled up the vehicle and drove it approximately three miles to my home, parked vehicle in the garage.later that evening i noticed a very strong fuel odor in the garage.did some research on a couple mercedes owners online forums that indicate that fuel leakage is a common issue with my 2003-2009 e series models.removed the vehicle rear seat (fuel tank is located under seat) and the screwed-down inspection seal to view the fuel sending unit.observed a significant quantity of fuel puddled on the top of the fuel sending unit.see photo at: http://screencast.com/t/aufw5k7lqzclearly there is a fuel leak and from my research this is a common issue with the 2003-2009 mercedes e series models.from what i've seen, mercedes dealers will not repair this issue under warranty or recall and typically charge $1500-2500 for repairs.hundreds of mercedes owner have documented this issue on forums at mbworld.org and benzworld.com1. Benzworld.com - http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w211-e-class/1602584-gas-smell-after-filling-up-tank.htmlthere are many more threads like these and a class action lawsuit was filed as well. The contact owns a 2004 mercedes benz e 320. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked in the garage and exhibiting an abnormally overpowering gasoline fuel odor. The odor filled both the garage and the contacts residence. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as a fuel leak. The manufacturer was contacted and advised that a case manager would return the contacts call. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 22,716. Upon entering my closed garage in the early morning, i noticed a very strong gasoline smell.i took the car to my mercedes repair shop (not a dealer) who informed me that there was a leak in the fuel sending unit and that this was a developing problem with e class cars.he said there were class action suits against mercedes for this problem.he said mercedes would not admit it was a safety problem.well, it seems like a safely problem to me!i certainly hope my government's ntsb is looking into this.are we waiting for people to be severely burned or killed due to this problem?

Mercedes 2004 e320 fuel tank leaking under rear passenger seat.strong odor of gasoline which is worst right after fillup, became progressively worse over time.

Fuel tank leaks and strong odor of fuel in passenger compartment after a fill up.very dangerous combination.a fire is likely at some point. Took vehicle in for repairs under nhtsa action # ea13003 and mercedes disavows any knowledge of extension of warranty and repairs. They want to charge me $2100. This is outrageous and unacceptable.please help. You have negotiated a fix and they are refusing to do it. You should have made them recall the vehicles. Now we have just more headaches for owners of effected cars.

It's been about a year.when i fill up gas, it smells not only in the car also in the garage, even smell it in the room above the garage.i've tried several times to fix it in mercedes auto repair shop, but it still smells.just recently found out there are many other people having same problem, it seems a manufacture failure, and i wish a solution by mercedes soon.

Fuel leaking from top of fuel tank. Tank was cracked and had to be replaced.

Constant strong odor of gasoline.outside the car and inside the car coming from the back seat.

I own a 2004 e320 with only 44,652 miles. After every fill up strong order of gas from left side near back seat area also check engine light will always comes on. I took car to a mb mechanic trained by mb he removed the rear seat and left fuel sending unit cover , found a huge puddle of gas on and round gas tank pump area. I was told the pump seal was no good, i had the pump and seal replaced, filled tank again with the same result. Finally, last friday, with the seat and sending unit cover off we filled the tank and drove the two miles back to the mechanic shop, when we arrived the whole area around the pump was full of fuel, upon inspection one could see the fuel running from the top of the fuel tank and puddle around base of the fuel pump. We video the fuel running from top of the fuel tank. Contacted local mb dealer where i purchased the vehicle but was told there is no warranty on vehicle. The dealer will inspectand repair the vehicle but the expense will be on me. I don't allow anyone in my family to drive this car because of this problem. This is very dangerous situation that needs to be address.

Nhtsa action# pe12001 heavy fuel smell for several days after filling vehicle up with fuel.

We recently purchased a 2004 e320 with 71000 miles in august 2012. Last week, now with 74000 miles, we noticed a strong gas smell in the car. After doing some research online and in mercedes forums we concluded that it may be the fuel unit. We pulled the rear seat and took off the cap and noticed a pool of gas, right under where our 2 yr olds car seat is, about 2 cups that i took out by soaking numerous papertowels.i also took pictures just in case it may be needed it the future. Throughout all my searches online i've noticed that this problem is very common in the e class and numerous people have tried to resolve it through mercedes but nothing has been done. A recall was issued for the e55 trim but no other, which makes us wonder why. We will not drive it until it gets fixed (as of today it has not been ) because we feel it is not safe for our family to have a pool of gas with electrical wires right beneath our seats.

After filling the tank there is a strong smell of fuel inside the cabin and above the left rear wheel. The fuel vapors saturate the garage space and also enter the house environment. The fuel leaks from the top of the fuel tank at the fuel sending unit. There was approximately 200 cc of gasoline pooled in the plastic cover of the sending unit. This fuel evaporates through the cabin and ouside through the space of the rear left wheel. The car, my family, and my house is at the risk of fire and gasoline explosion. The mb authorized dealer declined to repair free of charge this serious manufacturer's defect because the vehicle is out of warranty. The repair cost is approximately $2400 which includes replacement of the entire fuel tank and the sending units.

Strong order of gas from left side near back seat area , always after fill up , thought just loose gas cap , removed rear seat and left fuel sending unit cover , found puddle of gas on and round gas tank . Was told from dealer parts dept , very common for seal to weep , replaced ,but still same problem , after last fill up , dried around pump and gas just weeped though top of sending unit , hair line crack i assume , will replace sending unit myself . Disappointed that this doesn't meet recall standards per mercedes.

After refueling, the car has a strong gasoline odor inside and outside the car. The air brakes make a roaring noise when pressed. The air bag is deactivated srs indicator remains on.

Fuel smell inside and outside of car when fuel tank is completely filled.stationary and in motion.

For several months there has been a strong odor of gasoline after fueling the vehicle. The odor has become steadily worse and we took the vehicle to the dealership for assistance. We were told that the fuel tank was cracked and had to be replaced. When i inquired how this could have occurred, i was told it could be due to impact or trauma (which is impossible as the vehicle was not involved in any incident). Was informed that it would cost $2,300.00 to repair vehicle. Called mb-usa and asked for assistance. Was informed that there was not a recall on the fuel tank and i would have to pay the cost. As the vehicle was unsafe, i had the work performed and received a 10% "goodwill" discount. Picked up vehicle and drove a short distance and continued to smell fuel. Called dealership and they came to pick-up. Acknowledged that they did not tighten a clamp or something. We picked it up again and the odor was persistent. Immediately called the dealership back and we subsequently traded the vehicle in. Bottom line.... I do not think that a fuel tank should fail on a vehicle with less than 80,000 miles. I have the old tank and believe that mb should reimbursement for the cost of the tank.

Heavy fuel odor emanating from vehicle.vehicle and possibly structures could catch fire if fuel is leaking and an ignition source is introduced.only viable reason why fuel odor is present is either the fuel tank is leaking at a location or the vent has failed.vehicle fuel odor is especially strong if vehicle was filled up recently but is present 24/7.

The fuel leak, fuel sender leaks, i do not have enough to replace all those parts. It should have dealer responsibility to fix those issues.

Customer complains of fuel smell outside of vehicle on approach. Upon entering the vehicle the smell is unbearable and causes nausea when driving. Inspected the vehicle and found the left side (driver's) fuel pump seal is leaking causing fuel to puddle and saturate inspection plate. The fuel wicks past inspection plate gasket and into the passenger compartment saturating the area directly under the rear seat. Replaced fuel pump module with seal (gasket) as well as gasket on right (passenger) side.

I am filing this complaint regarding the fuel smell coming into the cabin. I have owned a 2005 c230 compressor and had the same issue and mb took care of this with no issues. No i have an e320 and they wont fix this issue. After filling up driving with the smell of fuel in the cabin has caused serious headaches for me and my family. Even parking in my garage has filled my whole house with the smell of fuel. I have a 5000.00 dollar parrot this is very sensitive to smells and this could be a serious affect to everyone's health and safety. If mb can fix this issue on one car why cant they fix it on all cars.

I took my vehicle to my regular independent mercedes-benz mechanic because there was strong gasoline smell inside the passenger area of the car and i noticed there was a small puddle of gasoline under the car whenever i filled up my tank. My mechanic inspected the car and found gasoline pooled up in the recess where the fuel pump attached to the fuel tank. He informed me that the leaking fuel posed a serious safety hazard and could possibly lead to a fire, or even a possible explosion should i park inside my garage. He said the water heater pilot light or any other source of spark could ignite the fumes and burn my house down. In addition, he stated he had seen this same problem many times before and that mercedes-benz has been aware of the problem for many years but refuses to accept that they had installed a defective part in the thousands of vehicles of this model they produced. It would simply be too expensive to remedy. If i wanted it repaired it would be at my own expense since mercedes-benz is accepting no responsibility for this known issue.the leak has caused my vehicle to be unsafe to operate.

Driver is experiencing a heavy odor of gasoline after fill up.vehicle is not overfilled/topped off.vehicle was sitting inside garage when owner noticed a heavy fuel odor and notified fire department to investigate.per recommendations of fire department, keep vehicle out of garage until issue could be inspected by a qualified mechanic.mechanic inspected fuel system and found fuel leak under rear seats near fuel pump/sending unit.mercedes benz refuses repair issue saying it is not a safety issue.gasoline fumes/vapors are especially heavy inside a single car garage, and if a ignition source is introduced it could become fatal.

We noticed a strong gas smell especially right after fueling up the car.we parked our car in an enclosed garage so the entire garage smelled off gas.as the gas level was reduced from operating the car the gas smell went away.when we filled up again the gas smell was back.we moved and had our car in an open air parking stall and it didn't seem as much of a problem.now we have an enclosed garage again and the smell of gas is very noticeable.again the smell is the strongest right after fueling.we recently replaced the charcoal canister and shutoff valve (regeneration valve and purge valve) for a cost of $700 but this has not fixed the problem.

I filled the gas tank full and on pulling in the garage could smell a strong smell of gasoline... Went to get my oil change the next day and the gentleman mentioned he could smell gas coming from my car at valvoline oil change.... Very strong smell in the interior of the car as well as when walking around the outside of the car you could smell a strong smell of gas... The gentleman from valvoline looked under the car and said there's some type of cover that goes underneath the gas tank itself and put his finger into it and could touch gasoline on his hand... I just went onto the internet and read many many complaints of the same thing with this type of car lawsuits have been filed... In those complaints the people that brought their car to dealership said that it was very expensive to remedy and that there should have been a recall... After driving a little bit and reducing the amount of gasoline in the tank the smell has subsided somewhat... Those complaints also mention that it can be very dangerous with this type of leak

Gasoline smell in garage and inside the cabin.read online stating that recall on e class for 2004 on gas tank leaks or faulty fuel sending unit.however, mb denied there is any recall link to the vin of my vehicle.

My 2004 mercedes benz e-320 began emitting a strong odor of gasoline in 2010 and was taken to the local dealership (schumacher mercedes in scottsdale, arizona) for inspection when it was determined that there was a leak in the fuel tank and that it needed to be replaced along with the left sender pressure sensor and tank fittings.the vehicle had approximately 60,000 miles at this time and was outside of the initial warranty so the $2,500 repair was undertaken.approximately 2 years later and 40,000 miles later, the same symptoms returned and the vehicle was taken back to the same dealership for inspection.it was determined once again that the same problem was occurring and the fuel level sensors were leaking fuel and needed to be replaced again.the cost for this repair was estimated to be $1,200 and this time the repair was rejected.the service advisor at the dealership claimed this is a common problem with these cars and there was nothing they could do about it.the vehicle had always been maintained by the dealership since the beginning and apparently there have been no recalls issued that we were aware of for these malfunctions and defects.i have contacted mercedes corporate office and they opened up an investigation only to determine that the dealership acknowledged the problem with the vehicles but neither party was willing to accept responsibility for the defect and no additional assistance would be available or commissioned for me. This is a major safety issue and should not be considered a common issue or routine maintenance for any car, let alone a mercedes benz.if something does not get rectified with this epidemic malfunction of these vehicles, it could lead to a major accident or even death.

I am disappointed because we?ve known about this problem only for a short time since last year when we went to our dealership the complaint of smelling gas fumes after pumping gas.we smelled the fumes in the rear cabin area primarily. We had the dealership and a couple other certified mercedes benz shops look at the issue determining that the sending unit needs to be replaced.we were going to do the service later after one dealership told us to just keep the car half full with fuel until you are ready to complete the service repair for over $1,000 out of our own pockets.

My inside door lock stems on my car keep breaking off and in an emergency, i'm afraid that the door could not be opened from the inside of the car.i have had three of them to break off for no apparent reason.it's a 2004 mercedes benz e320 and i don't feel that i should have to keep purchasing them over and over again.i personally know someone having the same problem with a 2008 mercedes c350, is anyone complaining?i'm usually alone in my car so there isn't anyone/kids breaking them off.why does this keep happening?i'm sending you this complaint because i just discovered another broken one last week.

The inside door lock stems keep breaking off. I have replaced them with non mercedes parts. The ones i purchased don't fit very well but the ones from mercedes don't hold up. They keep breaking.

I have 2004 e320 mercedes station wagon. The manual tailgate won't stay up and closes on your head.a real safety problem that should not happen in the cars of today.

Transmission problems resulted when downshifting, the car will downshifts 2 or 3 more gears at a time.

The shifter module is defective because after starting the engine, when in drive, it stays in 2nd gear only. To put the car in reverse, i must shut the engine. Otherwise i can't shift from d to n to r. The shifter will not move past neutral. To get to p or r, i must shut the engine. This is unsafe when trying to back into a city street parking. When the car is stationary, after starting it, once i shift from p to r & arrive at n, the shifter will not allow me to shift back into r without shutting the engine & then restarting it.

Dt: the contact stated that while driving she turned on seat warmer as well as the heater and shedetected the odor of something burning .she turned off the heater but not the seat warmer.she continued driving but sensed a feeling of something biting the side of her leg.she discovered a spark coming from a hole inleather seat.she experienced a small burn to her leg.there were no visible flames only sparks.she turned off the seat warmer and pulled over. To extinguish any sparks she poured water onto seat.she took the vehicle to a dealer.mercedes will replace the seat free of charge.

2004 mercedes benz e320.consumer writes in regards to seat heater malfunction.the consumer stated she turned on the seat heater. Minutes later, she began to feel heat under her left thigh and a burning smell, so she reached down to touch the seat, and quickly drew her hand back as she burned the edge of her fingers. She immediately turnedoff the seat heater as that was the only thing she could think of, that might have caused the extreme heat.she pulled off the road and jumped out of the vehicle.by then, there was a finger size hole in the left side of the leather seat and the inside of the hole was glowing red and smoke was rising out of the hole. The consumer also realized the bottom left edge of her coat was also burning, and she quickly put it out. The dealer confirmed, the cause of the hole was the seat heater.

Sensor tonic brake system light in intermittently

The sbc control unit failed.there was a red warning light on dash, that when i was in the road the brakes just about failed.when i shut off the car and tried to start again it would not let me move it from park position.tried several times and was able to get it into neutral and drive to pull in position for the tow truck.in reading up on the web this is a known problem with the sbc control unit.i was fortunate to be close to home but this is a really dangerous problem.mercedes put a limit on the unit to shut down without warning.they do not have any way to tell us owners when this will hit their limit.they should be forced to repair all of these sbc control units or at least find a way to tell us when it will happen.i also found out that they did know of the problem and extended the warranty for the sbc unit for ten years, but depending how often you used it determines the break down of the brake system.which meant if you had an older car you paid for something they force to break.there is an app $30 that can reset the amount of braking you have done and has been shown to fix the problem instead of a $2000 repair that mercedes will charge you for a whole new sbc unit.why don't the dealers have this app?why do we let the manufacturers get away with forcing parts to seemingly break so they can make more money?

At the annual service the mercedes dealer tested the brakes and informed me the brake system sbc has failed.this is a problem with this model and has been the subject of a recall/extended warranty.it's an approximately $4,000 dollar repair and they claimed to have just discovered it only months after the recall/extended warranty has ended.they do not want to repair the brakes under the recall/extended warranty issue to do so but have said it needs to be repaired.the vehicle just underwent a recall/extended warranty authorized repair for a long standing fuel leak problem the month before.there remains a strong smell of fuel in the passenger compartment of the vehicle.

On 12/16/2020 while driving the brakes on my vehicle failed. A red warning triangle appeared on the vehicle message board stating the cars braking ability was severely reduced and to stop driving immediately. I was able to drift to the side of the road without incident and had the vehicle towed to my mechanic. The mechanic could find no mechanical reason for the brake failure. The red warning light was gone and the brakes were functioning normally. Online research revealed an extended warranty/recall for the year, make and model of the car related to brake failure. Mercedes will replace the sensortronic brake control module (sbc) free provided the correct codes are evident when they diagnose the car.(safety recall #2005110001 i believe) my mechanic said that there are no codes showing for the brakes and the brakes are now functioning. My online research has shown that this can be an intermittent problem and the dealerships are reluctant or will not replace the sbc if there are no codes.after contacting mercedes the car is being towed to the dealership as i type this. I am hopeful that mercedes will do the correct thing and replace their admittedly flawed brake module but it isn't looking good as they said if the correct codes do not appear they will not replace.the insane idea that i am expected to continue to drive the vehicle until the brakes fail again in order to get them replaced is unacceptable. I'm in a no win situation.

This vehicle is equipped with sensotronic brake control that has a service threshold. When this threshold is reached the brake system defaults to non power assisted hydraulic mode to the front wheels only. This occurs without any prior warning and results in increased stopping distance. I have sent a copy of the mercedes service bulletin s142.46-p-0012a which addresses this issue. Mercedes stopped installing this system in 2006. At the very least, mercedes should issue a mandatory recall to interrogate these vehicles with star das to determine how close to the service threshold the sbc unit is and replace them at the dealer's expense. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed.

Merecedes benz usa customer service would not honor nhtsa campaign 04v296000(sbc brake pump failure) claiming failure was beyond the limit of the campaign.car was always serviced at mercedes dealership however this part was never replaced.due knowledge of potential defect in the brake unit, i have requested the part be replaced at mercedes expense which has been denied.i was told my car is unsafe to drive and the repair is quoted at $2200.00

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes-benz e320. While driving approximately 20 mph, the brake pedal was applied and failed without warning. The vehicle was pulled over into a parking lot and the emergency brake was applied to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, but was not diagnosed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was a brake failure the sbc/electro hydraulic brake system component, which needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000.

Brakes failed three times today.at one point, we were forced to use emergency brake to stop, and at another point, we were forced to drive off into the grass to stop.

I was pulling out of a drive way and brakes completely failed with no warning.i could not change gears or stop. I only came to a stop when the car finally rolled to a stop.this was unbelievable terrifying.i had car towed to nearest mercedes mechanic.i paid the $1394.00 and mercedes benz customer services says i have no recourse because i am out of the 10 year warranty.i could have been killed as car pulled out blindly onto the city street.this happened late at night with no warning.i am still shaken up by how suddenly this happened on a vehicle that i once held in such high esteem.

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes benz e320. The contact stated that the brake warning light illuminated and the brake pedal became very loose. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and it was determined that the sensotronic brake control module needed to be replaced along with the entire hydraulic brake system.the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 109,000.

Takata recall. The brake light on dashboard came on few months ago. We had replaced brake pads etc, earlier and was told the sbc needed to be replaced. I went to 2 dealers in my area and they both stated it is not under warranty. I have read many comments about the faulty design from mbenz and do not understand why they do not want to replace it at their cost. Are they waiting for lawyers to sue for a fatal crash? i do not want to be the one dying nor anyone in my family. The car has only 106,331 miles. Can you help?

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes-benz e320. The contact stated that a blue light illuminated, which meant that the brakes needed to be serviced. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the brakes were serviced. A few months later, while traveling 30 mph, the brakes failed without warning. The contact continuously pumped the brake pedal until the vehicle stopped. The contact had the vehicle towed back to the independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a sbc hydraulic pump failure. The contact took the vehicle to mercedes-benz of beverly hills (9250 beverly blvd, beverly hills, ca 90210, (310) 659-2980) where the vehicle was ultimately diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 106,000.

I am an owner of a 2004 mercedes benz e320 that i have bought 3 years ago in november. When i purchased the vehicle i elected to also buy a 3 year 36k warranty. Over the past 3 year i have had no to very little trouble with the vehicle and have maintained a very positive and optimistic attitude towards the vehicle never having to utilize the warranty. Well until last week... I was driving the vehicle on the interstate when suddenly i lost all braking power out of nowhere. I was petrified and very scared for myself and everyone in the vehicle, only getting a "reduced braking power" notice on the dash after brake loss. Recollecting that if this occurred in heavier traffic we could have been seriously injured and or killed in an accident due to the reaction of the sbc unit that failed in the vehicle. Come to find out my vehicle had a recall for this specific failed unit and mercedes benz offered a 10 year 150k mile warranty to fix this issue in the vehicle. Unfortunately by the time that i had purchased the vehicle, had i know this was an issue, i would have only had a short period of time for the unit to fail before i could have taken advantage of this "warranty".. But i was unaware of this issue and honestly would have not purchased the vehicle if i would have known. I commuted with this vehicle 60 miles a day for the last year and even drove it to california over the summer as a family trip, with no negative thoughts or malfunctions. I cannot say that i can drive this vehicle in confidence any longer with the knowledge that i have now of the sbc braking units. My vehicle warranty is no longer valid because my vehicle exceeded mileage..this issue should be covered by mercedes i should not be held liable for correcting this issue. This is a major saftey issue and is not being address appropriately.

A warning signal appeared on by dash board citing brakes, take to shop. The mercedes benz service center put on front brakes pads and rotors. I was told toded to replace the sbc united because it was "timed out" and the brakes could fail.the cost of unit is $2418.32. This is life threatening.there should be a recall.

Recall was performed in 2004 on sbc hydraulic system and has gone out again, 12/08/2015, and the dealer said the recall "expired" in 2013. Vehicle was diagnosed at autohaus in royal, oak, mi.

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes-benz e 320. The contact called on behalf of his wife. The contact stated while the vehicle was at stand still, the driver was unable to start the vehicle. A message on the instrument panel showed brake malfunction stop vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed the battery was drained. The vehicle was jump started and driven to the residence. The contact called an independent mechanic who provided a diagnosis over the phone. The contact was informed that the sensotronic brake control (sbc) needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 05v133000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the vin was not included. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was informed of failure. The failure mileage was 127,000.

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes-benz e320. While driving 35 mph, a red warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel regarding the brakes. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the abs stabilizer failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

After refueling, the car has a strong gasoline odor inside and outside the car.the air brakes make a roaring noise when pressed.the air bag is deactivated.

The sbs sytem has gone out when there was a recall on the item. Sbs sytem is not good. Now i'a out to 2000 for a recall part this is not fair

While driving on the highway, the (sbc) systems failed with a red stop sign on the dash board. I managed to bring the car to a complete stop by pushing the pedal all the way to the floor with no resistance and applying the emergency brake with my left foot simultaneously. It was a scary experience as it was a stormy late night with 10% visibility due to the rain. I managed to park/towed the car to my house and it has been in my drive way ever since the incident. The vehicle was inspected by an independent mechanic who stated that there was a manufacturer recall and that the sensotronic brake control system failed to function properly. The vehicle was not yet inspected and diagnosed by a dealer. The vehicle was excluded from nhtsa campaign number: 05v133000 (service brakes, hydraulic), although the failures were identical. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was waiting to determine if they would respond with a solution to prevent the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

After the repair, while driving 35 mph, the brake indicator illuminated and the brake pedal became stuck to the floorboard. The contact was able to coast the vehicle onto the road shoulder. The vehicle was towed back to the same dealer. The manufacturer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 144,015.

While driving on the freeway at around 60 mph my instrument message display suddenly turned red, started beeping continuously, and displayed the message "stop break defective stop vehicle". The car had zero breaks, pumping them did no good, and i had to immediately put on my hazards, downshift to slow the car, and pull off the freeway and park using the emergency break to avoid a potentially life threatening accident. While waiting for help i turned the car back on after 15 minutes and everything appeared to be working fine. My car is serviced regularly and very well maintained and it gave no indication of any break problems prior to this failure. It had a full break job at the mercedes benz dealer less then 30k miles ago and was serviced for another issue in the last 1.5 years. At no time were my breaks mentioned as needing maintenance. Mercedes benz is aware of this issue, see "2004 mercedes benz e class brake foundation components tsb (bulletin sb-090930)" where it is mentioned. This is a serious life threatening issue that because of the design of the break system is completely unpredictable. My car is not within the 10 year warranty covered in the tsb referenced above. This sbc breaking system should have never been permitted on the road. Mercedes benz realized the mistake and discontinued the use of it after 3 years due to all of the issues. Any car with this system is a ticking time bomb that could put any number of lives at risk with absolutely no warning. At least with a standard break system you have some chance of stopping the car.

Sbc brake light came on car would not engagegot it towed the repair cost $1600.00 to repair. I call mbz they said no help for me.

Berberian stockton dealer wants $2,400 to fix the sbc (sensotronic brake control) $740 to fix front brakes. The rep ralph carrasco said the dealership cannot comply with the remedy for recalls as the time period for recalls has expired.really? repair of faulty brakes expire? i was waiting for the light to turn green when the bright red message "stop! brakes unsafe stop the car immediately" [ can't recall exact verbatim].to stop the car because the brakes had become unsafe to drive .the car froze up, restarts but will not shift gear to drive.why does mb sell outageously expensive but defective cars? what about consumer protection law? nhtsa (national highway traffic safety) published on 4/05/2005 this sbc issue as mercedes-benz recall no. 2004 050014. The recall began on october 21, 2004. Owners should contact mercedes-benz at 1-800-367-6372. Nhtsa summarized the recall on certain vehicles, the electronic monitoring system of the sensotronic brake control (sbc) is designed to monitor the pressure gradient within the high pressure line of the brake system. If an unacceptable pressure gradient is detected, the system will switch, as it is designed to do, into the hydraulic function mode. Hazard: if vehicles are not routinely serviced and have extremely high mileage combined with a high number of brake actuations, or frequency, the pump motor of the sbc may run out of permissible tolerances, thereby triggering the hydraulic function mode.customers may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to http://www.safercar.gov.

Sbc system failed 4 months after warranty expired.multiple posts on line regarding issue which should be a recall not an extended warranty.this is a safety hazard regarding a part that appears to have a much higher failure rate.

I just replaced my brakes and i get an message on my dash that says reduced brake effect longer stopping distance. I take it in to the dealer penske mercedes and they tell me the sbc pump and another part are bad and that it will cost me $2200 to repair because my extended warranty expired 10 years after the date i purchased my vehicle.i thought extended meant after the manufacturer warranty expires not the day i buy the car. This is a very dangerous issue if my brakes fail because of their negligence why should i have to pay for them to fix their mistake.

This was one of 4 accidents or fender benders i've been in in the last 14 months due to brake malfunction. I have changed my brakes 2 in 14 months and its not the brakes its a malfunction the brakes loose pressure the brake pedal goes completely down but do not actually brake with this i have hit 4 vehicles from behind.. I contacted mcb coral gables and they said they do not have any recalls therefore can only service it if i pay. I feel like i will likely get into a terrible accident , something needs to be done i am in danger..i do not have means of other transportation.

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes-benz e320. While driving approximately 30 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to stop and all the warning lights on the instrument panel illuminated. In addition, an error message displayed and informed the contact to immediately stop the vehicle. The brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard, but failed to respond. As a result, the contact crashed into the curb, which caused the vehicle to stop. The vehicle was towed. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the computer system related to the brakes was reprogrammed. The failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the sbc system failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes benz e320. While driving at 75 mph, the brakes failed to respond and the abs warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes-benz e320. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed and traveled close to the floorboard. The contact stated that the brake pedal required excessive force to stop the vehicle. In addition, the ?brake longer distance visit workshop? warning message appeared in red on the instrument panel. The contact was concerned that the failure could result in a fatal crash. The failure occurred every time the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the sbc hydraulic unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer offered to cover ten percent of the cost, but the offer was declined. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign numbers: 05v133000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 04v296000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The contact stated that a recall remedy could not be performed unless the vehicle received a service not related to a recall, which was why the manufacturer's recall remedy for the fuel tank was not performed. The contact felt that the failure occurred due to high mileage. The manufacturer stated that there was an extended warranty related to the failure that expired. The failure mileage was 197,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes benz e320. While driving at approximately 20 mph, the power brakes failed without warning causing, which caused the brakes to go into backup mode. The vin was serviced under nhtsa campaign number: 05v133000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the failure continued. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the abs pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 95,000. Updated 01/27/16*lj

Recall campaign:04v296000the consumer had problems with the vehicle's brake lights prior to receiving the recall notice.the consumer took the vehicle in to get the recall service done for the repeated deflating tire and front brake pads.the consumer was refused a rental or loaner vehicle.the consumer was told that his vehicle would not comply to the pump as the system would not bleed.another customers parts would be used as the pump continued to be faulty to the consumers vehicle.the consumer was allowed by the service dept to drive the vehicle off with failed service.while driving the emergency brake light flashed repeatedly.the consumer stated that the service on his vehicle was broken up intentionally to avert the lemon law citation.the consumers vehicle is a mercedes e320.*tc

I was driving on the highway at approximately 55 mph when a warning message flashed across my instrument panel to stop my vehicle immediately.at the same time the traffic in front of me slowed almost to a complete stop.i tried to engage my brakes, but they failed and i had to swerve into the next lane to avoid rear ending an suv.i was able to work my way over to the shoulder and coast to a stop.i was told by the mercedes benz dealer that there are no recalls on my vehicle, but there is an extended warranty on a specific brake part.if the dealer determines that this particular brake part is to blame for the failure, mercedes will cover the cost of the repair.i did some research and found a recall notice on the nhtsa website (nhtsa recall # 04v-296) that appears to include my vehicle.i do not understand why a defect, this serious, would not warrant a recall that owners should be aware of.the outcome of this brake failure could have been very tragic.

The failure and the current mileage was 81,000.

Brakes failed at 70 mph."brakes warning" sbc failed.pull over vehicle.

Brake failure while driving vehicle, brake pedal pressure was greater when applied to stop car. Vehicle was not operational after car came to a complete stop. Sbc system was replaced by mercedes dealer, but refused to replace pressure reservoir that also malfunctioned with brake failure.

While pulling inside of a parking spacedriver applied the brakes and the pedal went to the floor. Driver was unable to stopor maintain control of the vehicle, and it collided into a glass window of a business.no injuries reported. Upon impact, both air bags did not deploy. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic insisted that the problem could not duplicated.

Brake failure, caused a major collision.car didnot stop in time to avoid another vehicle.also electrical issue. Consumer received a letter stating that his vehicle was included in the recall.recall stating that the pump motor may run out of permissible tolerances thereby triggering they hydraulic backup function mode leaving consumer to use greater brake pressure leaving brake travel longer likely to result inan accident.*tc

The inside door lock stems keep breaking off. I have replaced them with non mercedes parts. The ones i purchased don't fit very well but the ones from mercedes don't hold up. They keep breaking.

On opening the driver's door from the inside, the driver suffered a deep laceration of the middle finger as a result of sharp edges of the chipping metal coat of the door handle. Upon further inspection, it appears that the plating of the inner edge of the handle is delaminating from the plastic structure, leaving protruding, sharp edges on the very part of the handle used to open the door. This may also be a potential site of bacterial infections.

Mercedes benz airmatic ride height system is faulty. I have research several forums and noticed a continuous of air strut failure on vehicles under 50,000 miles. The parts to repair this fault can only be purchased at a mercedes benz dealer and are extremely expensive. One air strut costs around $1500.00 and usually a compressor must also be replace for around $500.00.

My right front air strut went out while my wife was driving and had our son in the car. She was 120 miles away from home and stranded. She went to mercedes benz of beverly hills and they want 160.00 to diagnose and then would put her in a loaner. The estimate was around 1700.00 to fix 1 air strut. I have done my research and this is definitely a safety issue as the speed she was traveling at. Im not sure why mb has not issued a safety recall on these faulty parts. Definitely would be nice if they would cover this.

When traveling over bumpy roads there is a large thumping and crashing noise from the rear end of the car and occasionally from the middle of the car.taken to dealers twice and explained in detail what is happening.they say that they have checked the car out and there is nothing wrong, everything is to specification and they cannot reproduce the noise.

The error light stating brake failure pull off road came on the pedal was very soft and went to the floor i was on a busy street at the time and almost hit a individual ! i was fortunately able to stop the vehicle! i have read since on line that the sbc unit had a recall but we were not privy to this information and now see that it was only for ten years . Why would the nhtsa put a year end on such a unit that could be something that could cause an accident and possible taking of lives?

The vehicle experienced sudden deceleration at 55 mph for a total of 4 times. Taken in for checkup, but results show that the cause is undetermined.

The contact owns a 2004 mercedes benz e320. While driving approximately 50 mph in severe rainy conditions, the windshield wipers failed to operate upon engaging. The contact was able to continue driving with extremely poor visibility. When the destination was reached, the contact realized the windshield wiper switch was faulty and he removed it from the vehicle. The authorized dealer was notified of the defect. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000.
