E 320 mercedes 2003 car front passenger airbag srs light on dashboard appeared about 2 years ago. I took it to mercedes dealer and was told that it would cost me $1,000 to assess and correct problem. Airbags have never been deployed and have never been used.i never fixed this problem because i think it is a defect and should fall under mercedes care. This is of concern since if i am in an accident and airbags deploy my passenger may be critically hurt.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes e320.the contact stated that the front passenger and rear passenger side air bag deployed without warning. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but denied any assistance with repairs to the defect.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was awaiting diagnosis of the failure.the failure and the current mileage was 123,000.
Airbags did not deploy in a 100 mph. Collision and am not sure because they should have.this resulted in the drivers face smashing into the windshield of the vehicle and breaking his nose. Can you please advise?
On-board computer gives an "srs malfunction - visit workshop!" message, despite being evaluated and reset by local service center at owner's expense.problem appears to exist for many owners of this make/model.
Srs light came and the vehicle was repaired by the authorized dealer but after four days again the light and warning came on.
The contact owned a 2003 mercedes-benz e320. While driving 45 mph, the rear passenger side and rear ceiling air bags deployed without warning or impact. There were no injuries. The dealer diagnosed that a crack in the rim caused the air bags to deploy. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.updated 06/21/16*lj
This vehicle is equipped with sensotronic brake control that has a service threshold. When this threshold is reached the brake system defaults to non power assisted hydraulic mode to the front wheels only. This occurs without any prior warning and results in increased stopping distance. I do believe that this issue is relayed in the mercedes service bulletin s142.46-p-0012a which addresses this issue. Mercedes stopped installing this system in 2006.i purchased the vehicle in december of 2007 as a used vehicle with aprox. 40,000 miles. I have not been sent anything from mbenz notifying of this issue.vehicle put in shop 4-16-20015 at mercedes. Diagnosis was faulty sbc pump system at a cost for repair $2400.00. At the very least, mercedes should issue a mandatory recall to interrogate these vehicles with star das to determine how close to the service threshold the sbc unit is and replace them at the dealer's expense. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed.lastly, passenger air bag light has been on since shortly after purchasing the vehicle. Known as the srs system.this issue is spelled out as a major safety concern in mercedes e class operator's manual, told by mercedes service dept, this is a $800.00 bill to have repaired. Question,, does something tragic have to happen before, mercedes benz live up to their obligation of keeping those who purchase their vehicle,,,,,safe.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes-benz e320. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the contact hit a pot hole which caused the passenger's side frontal air bag to deploy without warning. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The contact spoke with mercedes-benz of atlanta south (3775 royal s pkwy, atlanta, ga 30349) and was informed that the vehicle was not included in an air bag recall. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.consumer stated since the incident, manufacture sent a letter stating there was a recall with the airbags.
There is a sensor in the passenger seat that is defective causing the front passenger airbag to turn off, even when a passenger is properly seated.
Vehicle presented with red light indicating to take vehicle to workshop in red.braking was extremely difficult, srs system stalled the vehicle, emergency mode was activited,we were unable, at first to turn on the ignition switch.the vehicle operated as if it was paralyzed. We finally got the vehicle to run and turned vehicle into mb dealership.we were informed that the sbc unit was in need of replacement, we were beset with 1,800.00 repair.the vehicle is very dangerous to drive if you are not prepared for longer stopping distances, thankfully my husband was able to get the vehicle to the dealership. I found myself not strong enough to press on the brake pedal for adequate braking distance.fuel: upon fueling vehicle, the fuel handle will stop and immense amounts of fuel will spurt out from fuel tank.there is also a smell of gas/fuel in the cabin after fill up.this creates a huge spill and notification to attendant.takes up a great amount of time to fill up tank. Surprisingly we haven't been charged for fuel spills.srs: light on for safety response system, shortly after visit at mb dealership.have not taken vehicle to mb dealership for fear of another expensive repair.
The contact owned a 2004 mercedes-benz e320. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle crashed into the rear of a second vehicle. The front end was severely damaged, but the air bag did not deploy. The driver sustained chest and torso injuries, which required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed and towed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was 193,000.
While traveling on i94 thru north dakota my srs warning light came on.a message on the dash board told me to visit a repair shop as soon as possible.about 10 minutes later the light went out.the light came on again while slowing to exit the interstate highway for a fuel stop.upon restarting the engine everything was normal.about 30 minutes later the srs light came on again for about 5 or ten minutes.this pattern of normal engine starts and then intermittent srs warnings continues. I have read in the mercedes benz owners forum that there has been an nhtsa investigation :pe10017that appears to reflect the same problem i am having.please help.
The vehicle's air bags did not deploy properly upon impact.on aug 2004 the consumer was involved in an auto accident and the vehicle slid under the rear of a ford excursion.the consumers stomach hit the steering wheel branding her stomach with the mercedes emblem scalding her left arm.the consumer had to get assistance getting out of the seat belt.reported problem with the srs system in dec 2002.airbag did not deploy.*tc
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320.the front passenger side restraint sensor light illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the dealer and they stated that the front passenger seat srs sensor failed.the dealer will replace the sensor at the cost of $857.the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty and would not assist.the contact feels that the manufacturer should pay for the repair.the current and failure mileages were 48,000.
My car has stopped on the freeway as i was driving.then again a few weeks later while driving it stopped on the street. Also it jerks and hesitates often.i am afraid its going to stop anytime.the dealer will not give me a new car or my money back.i have taken the car in 16 different times and its been in the shop for over 45 days total.my lease is going to be up in about 4 months, i think that is my they will not do anything.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320. While parked, the vehicle's "service brakes-visit workshop" light illuminated. The warning light illuminated intermittently. The contact also stated that there was an abnormal noise coming from the engine. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 77,000.
It started with a esp warning on the cluster, with increased brake distance, after restart the warning was gone, after many months the warning came back on in nov of 2013, went back off and came back on jan 14 2014, called the mercedes dealer in nashville tn, was advised that the auto did have a recall on the sbc unit, which is the abs brake system, but the recall ended on 11-12, which i do not understand how a safety recall can expire with mileage or date. The repair will cost about $2000.00 with no manufacture support or help. Mercedes has know about the bosch system have only so many brake cycles, i purchased this vehicle used in 2009 and have never received any information on the recall. This is not the way a recall is supposed to work.. Mercedes said sorry, that's not good enough, this is the safety of my family and others that own these vehicles.
There is a sensor in the passenger seat that is defective causing the front passenger airbag to turn off, even when a passenger is properly seated.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes-benz e320. While driving 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning while turning. The contact stated that all of the power windows became inoperative, as well as the horn and brakes. The vehicle continued to accelerate independently and was unable to be stopped. The contact had to apply the emergency brake to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the battery and alternator warning indicators flashed on the instrument panel. The contact replaced the battery and the alternator, but the failure recurred. The battery was disconnected and reconnected several times in an attempt to correct the failure. A dealer and the manufacturer were not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.
I purchased a 2003 mercedes benz e320 custom ordered. There are erratic, inconsistent, intermittent problems of defective brake operation, radio,cd,seat controls, instrumentation, windows control, tire pressure indication, restraint system, transmission operation, srs system. These problems occur randomly. Twice, when i needed to brake quickly the brakes did not stop the car. The brake assist feature did not work. The car's brakes are terrible and unreliable, and constitute safety danger on the road. There are numerous malfunctions reported by car indicated on the instrument panel. All or most of these problems are electrical system problems associated with the gateway module*software*.the can-bus system on car, which also controls brakes, does not have correctly-operations of ware, and it affects most electrical and mechanical system functions in the car. There are data collisions and packet conflicts on the bus because the software is not written correctly or the computer system and software is overloaded. Reading over the 55 2003 e320 complaints on your website,it is clear that most of them are due to this software problem. The car has been brought back to the selling dealer ,mercedes benz of sandiego,*over 50 times*during the years 2003-2007 with no solution. The car warranty is set to expire in a week, and these problems are not yet fixed.the nhtsb demand mercedes benz either redesign the system or rewrite the software and test it for about 40,000 hours, or replace the vehicles with post-2003 e-class models, free of charge the nhtsb has been duped by mercedes benz into believing that replacing hardware components solve these problems the nhtsb should test the network software by examining data flows and function calls during the operation of the electrical and mechanical system features of an e320 and diagnose for data collisions and packet conflicts during automobile feature operation.
While driving at 45mph to go to work my car lost the brakes. The display showed brakes defective. Luckily i had plenty of space to stop the car with emergency brakes. I did diagnostic on the car and the sensotronic brake control sbc unit as mercedes-benz calls it (the brake unit) was defective. This is unacceptable defect and could be life threatening to others if they loose the brakes like i did while driving. Dealer diagnosed the car as well and replaced the sbc pump.
Water gets in the trunk somehow and causes faulty wuthering sam boxes..creating electrical fire hazzard..can't seem to figure out how water gets in trunk and settles where spare tire sits near battery and electronic wiring
While driving at any speed vehicle stalled. Consumer restarted vehicle, and drove it to dealer for inspection.mechanic determined that transmission and computer sensor needed to be replaced, and replaced them. However, the problem recurred, and the mechanic could not duplicate the problem.
The vehicle experienced electrical problems and the vehicles air bag light illuminated and stayed on. The dealer has been notified.*nlm
While traveling in the far left lane on a four lane highway the engine on the car stops in addition to the check engine light coming on.i could not move to the left shoulder because it was an additional lane for high occupancy vehicles which was also barricaded.i immediately placed on my flashers and commenced to change lanes to get off of the highway. Where this also occurred was where an on-ramp connects which added on another obstacle in an attempt to get off of the highway.it was very fortunate and lucky that no accident occurred as in the dallas area during rush hour it is very hard to just change to one lane with a running car let alone changing lanes 3 times plus dealing with merging traffic from an on-ramp with a car that is not running.after having the car towed to the dealer, the crank shaft sensor was found to be the defect.it is clearly a safety flaw by the vehicle manufacturer to completely stop an engine when a defect occurs on a sensor.in this condition the vehicle should only turn on the check engine light instead of turning the car off to place the operator into a potential deadly situation.
I purchased my car from a used car dealership of course i expected to have to have minor work done on it.immediately noticed that the heater didn't work when i had it repaired i was told that some valve often gets stuck on these cars the dealership always run diagnostics on your car whether you want them to or upon running the diagnostic i was advised the my new used card would need about $6k in work done from the hood to the trunk i decided to keep the car and get the major work done in stages 1st thing i had done was front break pads and rotors although i opted to have the work completed by an authorized repair shop and not the dealship for obvious reasons (cost) not once did the dealership complete recall repair work or even mention it to me that there were several recalls and my car needed to have those repairs completed but rather over charged me for ball joints plus several other things that more than likely did not need to be repaired.i felt completely taken advantage of and raised my concern adamantly to little avail. I took my car to the dealership multiple time prior to the expriration of the said 10yr extended warranty with regard to the sbc failing not once did they mention or repair it knowing full well thatthe main purpose of me bringing my car to them was specifically due to the brake warning light being illuminated on the dash i was told that it was some type of sensor not a big deal to worry about that my car would continue to stop and there was no need to replace the said sensor an unnecessary cost since my breaks were fine i told them my breaks weren't fine it was taking too long for the car to slow down and stop they did nothing that was 2012 the condition worsened and the light went from white to red i decided to research online a few months ago and came across 3 recalls i called mbusa they told me the warranty expired november 2013.

While driving my e-320 i heard a loud popping sound come through the speakers. After i heard the sound the rear speakers and the sub woofer began to make a noised that suggested they were busted.when i stop the car and shut it off i heard a buzzing noise come through the speakers.now when ever i apply the brakes i hear what sounds like a faulty ground noise coming through the speakers.there have been recalls on the brakes electrical system that sounds just like the problem that i am having but mb said my car is not included in the recall, by the way the to door speakers cost 189.00 dollars a piece and the rear sub woofer cost 639.00 dollars.i haven't started the research on how much the radio unit cost.this car has giving me several problems. What a beautiful lemon..
The car stalled while driving approx. 35 mph, this was the 4th time it stalled, the 3 other times car was not going as fast. One at a stop sign, the other 2 at about 20 mph. When car cooled off was able to start it. The 4th time could not restart, towed to mechanic found to be cps (crankshaft position sensor. Researched online found numerous complaints. An obvious problem!a dangerous problem!
2003 e320 mercedes brake failure!! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------i bought this car in 07 with 65,000 miles a good deal. Fine car! however...today while driving to work a red brake failure warning...flashes across the screen and my car would not stop!!! i am rolling across a small country rd bridge and thankfully am at the bottom of a steep hill. The brake pedal just flopped..nothing.. I managed to get it into park and get out with the car still running!!! i've had it towed two hours away...while waiting on my husband to get home to go the dealership with me, i located about 3 recalls on this model..question... What responsibility does this used import car dealer have to me as a customer? they are consulting the mercedes dealership to see if it is indeed an issue with a brake/hydraulics recall..i don't want to drive this car again..i owe some money on it. What could i insist they do???
Vehicle engine suddenly and without warning stopped running while being driven.this could have caused a serious or fatal accident if it had occurred on a major highway.mercedes benz of west chester replaced the crankshaft position sensor.the occurrence was stored in vehicle electronics.the fault was an electrical short in the crankshaft position sensor.mercedes determined the crankshaft sensor gets hot when engine running and causes internal resistance to rise to the point of shorting out.mercedes benz stated that a failure of this part should not have shut the vehicle off completely but rather should have resulted in the vehicle not being able to be restarted once it was stopped in ordinary operation.this is very dangerous!
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes-benz e320. While driving at night, the instrument panel lighting failed. The contact was unable to read any of the instrument panel gauges. The vehicle was taken to mercedes-benz fort wayne (7227 west jefferson boulevard, fort wayne, indiana 46804, (877) 455-9123) where it was diagnosed that the instrument panel needed to be replaced. The instrument panel was not replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The dealer informed the contact that the instrument panel was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 06v028000 (interior lighting); however, the repair did not correct the failure. The failure mileage was 101,200.
I have a mercedes benz 2003 e320, battery drain every 6 hrs. Bought new battery still battery drains. Seems like most people are having the same problem: see forum: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w203-c-class/1196568-mercedes-c320-battery-drain-15.htmlthese vehicles need to recalled. Its costing $115 per hour for the dealer to check. The problem is common after manufacturer warranty after 50,000 miles or 4 yrs. My car has 76,000 and been having this problem for the last 4 months.
Complete brake failure. Almost crashed. I have numerous fault codes in computer, abs code, sbc code, resivior code, etc, etc on a 58,000 milr car! they are telling me only one part has extended warranty and that is the sbc. Everything else i must pay for. The sbc effects all of these other parts and that is crap! like which came first? the chicken or the egg.why have you not effected a complete recall of this make & model as everyone is having the same problem. You and mercedes are going to get someone killed as the brakes go to manual and it's hard panic stoppng a 3400lb car!!!!!
While i was driving the car in 35 miles speed, all of a sudden the brake system failed.i was unable to control my 2003 mercedes e 320 and i was almost deadcrossing a heavy traffic area.fortunately i turned the car left to a parking lot and changed the gear to parking to stop the car and to avoid getting in to the shop.i bought the mercedes with a trust, but i lost my trust. Not only that i am still waiting to get the repairing cost from mercedes due to the product defect.
Check engine light goes on and off for days at a time . Brake lights on dash stay on all the time abs will also come on while driving and my car will stop . I have to force the car into park ... Pump my brakes the breaks make a sound and then they start working again .... There is a humming noice when i start my car as well as the seat belt light goes on and off even with my seals belt on.
Dealership failed to fix and inspect my sbc pump which lead to my vehicle being totaled and losing esp.
Mercedes dealer says that my vin number is not under this recall. I bought the car on july 31,2009 and the recall for the brake pump came out in october 2009. I have had the car serviced at the same mercedes dealer for 8 years and they have never told me about any recall. Is my car covered under this recall. I understand there is a 10 years limit on the recall and mercedes has been regularly servicing my car since year 6 to year 10 i.e. @009 to 2013 and they have never mentioned any recalls in any of the times i have had the car serviced since july 31, 2009.

Crankshaft position sensor - the engine shuts down without any warning, sometimes while driving at speed.i tried to restart it several times, but to not avail.it may restart after the engine has cooled off (after 20-30 minutes) but the problem repeats itself when the engine has been running and warm again.the check engine light came on and a malfunction message:battery protection - conventional functions temporarily unavailable displays.once at the repair shop, the mechanic knew what the problem may possibly be even before testing for the check engine code.he said he's seen this problem for quite some time.the problem code did come up with a bad crankshaft position sensor as he predicted.i researched this problem on several mercedes benz owners? forum web sites and discovered numerous entries from owners with this exact same problem, affecting several mercedes model years. I called mercedes benz and asked why a recall was not issued for this problem and what they were doing to compensate owners for the repair cost or at least a notification of this problem.i did not receive a favorable outcome but was told by the customer service representative that she would escalate the issue internally so that they would be aware of the issue.i believe that mercedes benz has known about this problem for years and it continues to affect many owners.having the engine shut down with no warning is very dangerous especially if the car is being driven at speed on the highway.

Recently on today 7-12-16 at 174,000 miles the display on my 2003 e320 4s mercedes benz all of a suddenly displayed an illuminated message in bright white :"brake" service brake visit workshop. My vehicle was in motion on a busy majorhighway when the hydraulic brake system exhibited this message.shortly prior to this messaging, i notice my brakes were more hard to apply pressure,. I am glad i wasn't driving fast, this could have been a serious tragedy to myself as well as those others on the expressway just a as i was.2. Problem with my gas tank after i fill the tank , the gas fumes become so intense after parking this vehicle inside my garage. I didn't know there were a recall. Is this fuel safety hazard recall still in effect? if so, whom do i contact to have it repaired at no cost to me the owner?3. 4 months prior in march 2016 i incurred a problem with the coolant fluid leaking into the transmission resulting in a major monetary expense out of my pocketsabove $5000. Can this be covered by the manufactuer so i may be able to be reimbursed?
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes-benz e320. While driving approximately 50 mph, the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard without stopping or slowing the vehicle. The vehicle made a beeping sound and the stop engine and brake failure warning indicators illuminated. The dealer was called (mercedes-benz of brooklyn, ny, 718-258-5100) and the technician stated that the abs was faulty and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall andreferred the contact to nhtsa. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.
I have had several problems with my car hesitating and jerking first few times they fixed it then my car stopped on the freeway in traffic going 40 miles per hour, then the engine light came on again and after changing the transmission it stopped again on the street going 30 miles per hour.my car is still hesitating and jerking.i am so tired of taking the car in all the time and them giving me a rental, my family and friends think its funny that i have driven a rental so many times.the car has been in the shop total of about 50-60 days total.mercedes will not give me my money back or change my car.i need help please before my car stops on me again on the freeway and someone hits me or i hit someone.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320.while driving 50 mph, the vehicle began to jerk and sputter.the dealer inspected the vehicle and stated that anti-freeze leaked into the transmission fluid, which caused the torque converter to fail.the repair would cost $3,000.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact is in the process of notifying the manufacturer.the failure mileage was 58,000 and current mileage was 62,000.
My 2003 mercedes e320 engine stalled momentarily as i sped up to enter i-95 near fredericksburg, va.i eased up on the gas and it restarted with no apparent immediate after effects.fortunately, there was no traffic close behind me, or there might have been a collision.there were no warning lights showing on the dashboard before or after the stalling.i continued south on i-95 with no further problems until i exited at ashland, va.at the interchange with us1, when i stopped at the traffic light, the engine stalled out and would not restart, blocking traffic.a policeman arrived and called for a tow.again there were no apparent trouble lights.the car was carried to the richmond va dealer, which replaced the air mass sensor.this corrected the problem.i reported this problem to mercedes customer care in nj.i emphasized the seriousness of having the engine stall out, but they were not planning to perform any new fix.they said it was "operating as designed", making reference to a "limp home" feature that stalls the engine and warns the driver to get off the road.i looked in the car's manual, and the term "limp home" appears only once concerning the engine.however, there is no description of how this works or what the driver is supposed to do.in my car, the engine did not "limp", but ran at full power after the stall and restart.in my opinion, a sensor failure should not disable the engine, and any serious problem should be warned through a blinking check engine light.mercedes needs to remedy these problems through a recall.at the very least, owners of these cars should be warned about the potential problem, and how to deal with it if it occurs.

Purchased 2003 mercedes e-320 on 1/10/04 from leith mercedes in raleigh, nc, two hours from my home. When i picked up the car, the tele-aid did not work - module replaced - old part not available; adjusting motor for outside mirror did not work - motor replaced - old part not available.in may, 2004, dash message said contact dealer.contacted dealer who sent flatbed for car.had car for 3 weeks.no explanation of failure.finally arranged a rental car for me.car is currently at dealer for a/c failure (drove 1,400 miles with no a/c!) leaky trunk (part of that trip was in the rain, and my luggage and other items in the trunk got wet)"groaning noise" in engine compartment, whistling sunroof( which has already been replaced because of whistling - old part not available) whistling fan;ambient lighting and windshield wipers come on at will; rear overhead light does not work; clock loses time.this time, under duress, they arranged a loaner vehicle for me.have had one call from dealer since car was brought in on 9/12/04 to clarify an item on my list.they "did not know" when my car would be ready. Today is 9/22 and i have not heard from them. When i asked dealer about brake recall, they said they had no knowledge of it, even though it was on the front page of usa today.i have asked for a free extended warranty as the car had 5,000 miles on it when purchased - (it now has 18,000+ - so my warranty is for 1 year or 50,000).they will "get back to me" on it.so far, i have not heard a word. I travel alot alone, and the car is making me uneasy.my husband refuses to drive it.i believe the caris a lemon!also, when i arranged to purchase the vehicle, they told me the car would be a new one, then called me to tell me it was, in fact, a "demo" model.it looks as if they were trying to unload it and i bought it!
After spending $600 of service on a 2003 mercedes e320, the radio command center start to acting up.it will shut down itself while driving.turn back on, and shut down itself again. Mercedes of bellevue insist this is out of warranty service. The radio was fine before service d., and now they expect us to pay extra 3 hours for testing radio?

Strong odor of fuel when gas tank is full...i am not topping off the tank when i refuel...dealership states i need entire gas tank replaced at a cost of 3000.00..i purchased this car used in march 2011 with approx 107,000 miles.
Sending unit leaks gasoline into the cabin of the vehicle letting in intense fuel vapors as well as actual liquid fuel into the cabin.furthermore the faulty sending unit causes a fuel leak from the gas tank to the exterior of the vehicle leaving puddles outside of the car while parked and continuing to leak while driving.both of these pose an extreme danger of fire hazard, as well as a health risk from constantly inhaling gasoline fumes.
My wife was driving home from work when she smelled a noxious gasoline odor.took car for repairs on aug 23, 2013.had to replace the auxiliary (sending) pump and the cable harness attached to the fuel tank.mercedes has had numerous issues with the fuel tank and pump but they refuse to do a recall and fix the problem.this repair cost $664.18 to fix items that are inherently defective in the mercedes vehicles.
The gasoline tank on my 2003 e 320 mercedes had a leak on the top portion of the tank.this allowed fumes to leak into my garage and would have presented a huge fire risk had i not discovered the problem and been involved in a rear end collision.a gas tank should not fail under normal wear and tear.
When the gas tank is filled full of fuel a strong odor of fuel is present inside of the car. I have looked under the back seat and seen a small amount of fuel escapes from the fuel system. Since i noticed this i have not filled my car up all the way as long as i don't fill it more than three quarters full the problem does not occur.
Strong gasoline smell after filling. The smell lasts at least 2-3 days before dissipating and happens every time we fill it. Problem was reported to the dealer multiple times.
There was gasoline leaking from the top of the fuel sending unit, around the fuel sending unit, under the rear passenger seat and actual liquid fuel was going into the cabin of the vehicle.the strong and intense fumes and vapors are inside the cabin and apparent after filling the fuel tank only half to three-quarters full.both of these pose an extreme danger of fire hazard, as well as a health risk from constantly inhaling gasoline fumes. This allowed fumes to leak into my garage and presented a huge fire risk had i not discovered the problem. A gas tank should not fail under normal wear and tear, but in october 2012 i paid over $1,600 for a new fuel tank, in april 2013 i paid over $1,200 for a new fuel pump and in august 2013 i paid over $700 for another new fuel pump.this is a recurring problem and the company does not seem interested in taking any action whatsoever.i believe this is a huge safety concern and i hope something can be done to rectify and remedy this situation.consumers deserve better than this. The contact owns a 2003 mercedes-benz e320. The contact stated after refueling, a strong gasoline odor was present outside the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the check engine warning light was also illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 115,000.
I have a 2003 e320 sedan, i can smell very strong gas fumes all in the car cabin every time i fill up with gas - not topping off, and no fuel leaking. This is so prevalent i have to leave my car parked outside instead of in my garage.this can last for around three days. I have investigated possible causes and none seem to actually correct the issue. This can be quite costly. I also have noticed many many other complaints filed for the same reason. Please help.
I have a 2003 mercedes e320 which i bought from coggin motormall in ft. Pierce. I have put only 5000 miles on car and it has been in shop 2 times. First the front thrusts and rods were bad and now the car is stalling on me, once with my son in car.when the car stalls, i lose all control of the vehicle and have almost been killed in these 2 failures. It has stalled on me 4 times and now i refuse to drive this car and now the ball joints are bad. I hear that there is a recall on the struts and joints 200901002 ?? the car once came on and said rear brake failure as well.how does a car dealership sell a vehicle to a customer with knowing that it could kill a family?they said they inspected it..this is going to kill me and my son.. Solve that, i wont drive this car.. Mercedes really needs to do something about these dangerous things..it is going to cost another 1000 dollars to fix and i cant afford it.
The interior cabin of my 2003 mercedes benz e320 has a strong odor of gasoline. Especially after refueling...gasoline is pooling under the drivers side rear passenger seat... I have to roll down the windows to getthe gasoline smell out of the cabin. I have taken this problem to my mercedes benz dealer and they said the fuel tank was leaking and sending unit was faulty ...i was quoted a price of $3000.00 to get unit replaced.
Strong gas odor after filling gas tank. While in for service on vehicle other than gas odor mechanic at dealership found gas on skid pan under car while on rack. He said tank or possible o ring may be at fault. This was september of 2012. At that time i decided not to pursue repairs due to financial restraints. This january of 2015 i received a warranty extension addendum stating " specifically, the warranty on the fuel tank, fuel filter/sender, fuel pump, and related gaskets ( collectively the "covered fuel tank components") for gasoline-fueled, non pzev certified model year 2003-2009 e class and 2006-2011cls- class vehicles will be extended from original 4 year/ 50,000 miles (whichever occurs first) to 15 years, regardless of mileage." today i left my 2003 e320 for service to address the problem. Dealership called and said the fuel tank sending unit was leaking but is not covered under warranty extension addendum!as stated above the "fuel filter/sender" is covered under the addendum but dealer doesn't want to acknowledge the letter i received from mercedes-benz usa, llc. I understand a class action lawsuit has been filed against mercedes concerning this matter. Is there anything your agency can due so mercedes honors their addendum and not change the coverage once they have your car torn apart. I did show letter to service representative before i left the car. Thank you for you time.
After filling the gas tank there was a strong smell of gasoline and leaking fuel near the drivers side rear tire. Upon calling a mechanic they said to look under the seat for leaking fuel. The fuel sending unit was definitively leaking.
I started noticing that every time i fill my gas tank, there is an extremely strong smell of gas.i purchased a new gas cover but didn't help.since a year ago it has gotten worst every time.the guy at mercedes said its not important but they would charge ,e 165 dollars to take a look.i didn't pay but i am worried it might create a fire and with 3 small children and carpooling to school its a big headache.please advise if this is something you are aware about or can help me with.thank you

The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320. The contact stated that when refueling, there was strong smell of gasoline inside and outside of the vehicle. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 62,000.
I have owned my 2003 e320 for over 10 years now, having purchased it as a certified used vehicle with approximately 19,000 miles. Everytime i park it in my garage after filling up the fuel tank, my garage smells of gasoline, eventhough there has never been a visible leak onto the garage floor. Recently after i refueled, the smell was no longer just outside the vehicle, but had now permeated into the cabin. These fumes have made it impossible to drive the car, because they are so overwhelming.

The car develops a very strong smell of gasoline after filling the gas tank. Other owners of mercedes e class vehicles have investigated where the smell is coming from and found that gasoline is pooling up under the rear seat on the fuel sender unit. When i went to my dealer, they told me that it in fact was the fuel sender unit that was causing the strong smell of gas inside my garage, and sometimes car. The fact that there are live wires near the pooling gas and the fact that the smell of gasoline is so strong leads me to believe that this is a safety issue that mercedes needs to address right away. I have kids that are in the car 3 times a day and i do not feel comfortable with them in the car.
Whenever i fill my gas tank, there is a strong smell of gas in the garage that persist until i've driven approx. 100 miles or more. I've since started parking outside for fear that the gas water heater for my house (which is located in the garage), may explode because the smell is so strong.i went online and noticed that there are a lot of the same complaints for the e320. Is there some kind of recall for this problem? if not, does mercedes benz have any responsibility for this repair which seems to be a plastic part on top of the fuel tank?
I had a gasoline to leak in the well under the passenger seats in the back of my 2003 e320 mercedes benz.this is a serious safety hazard.about 2 weeks ago, i had to spend $1200.00 to replace a fuel pump on my 2003 e 320 mercedes benz. When will mercedes benz recall these models for fuel pump problems? they were never able to detect the problems while this car was under warranty, but now it's coming up 11 years later.over 40 complaints have been sent to the consumer product safety commission (cpsc) about this problem, but mercedes is still saying that there are no recalls, nor do they have any knowledge of these fuel leak problems.there are also owners in other states with the exact problem, but listed below isa complaint on cpsc's website from a laurel, md 2003 e320 owner with the same problems that i'm experiencing:jul 31, 2011 - laurel, md - gasoline my 2003 mercedes benz e320, in which the fuel filters are located underneath the rear seat, had a powerful gasoline order inside the vehicle. The benz repair shop stated it was a hairline fracture in the fuel filter and it was leaking gas. They replaced the filters, but i've seen them replace the same type filters in 2008 models. I think this is a defective product and a safety hazard. If me or my spouse had been a smoker, or caused a spark, we could've potentially caused a fatal explosion. I think this needs to be investigated.
Fuel leaking to the inside of passenger compartment under access port under rear seat cushion, that's the location of the fuel pump. I made an appointment with tucson mercedes benz to inspect the car since i believed that a mercedes recall would correct the problem. I had several discussions with service advisor mark schofield and he assured me twice that the recall is in place and they would fix the fuel system defects without charge. He called me this evening and told me all about why tucson mercedes would not cover the repair, i was told the extended warranty program ended 2/21/2018. I bought the car on 4/5/18, filled it up with gas on 4/08/18 and the car was filled with fumes that night as well as in my garage.tucson mercedes first said that the tank was leaking at the vent tube between the left and right access points. He told me that the cost would normally be $3000 but he reduced it to $2000. I asked mark how the fuel could run across the top of the tank, climb the locking ring and puddle on top of the left side fuel pump? he also told me that mercedes could not just replace a portion of the fuel system without replacing the entire fuel system, including the tank. Also, not true. He said that upon a second examination was made and there appears to be a crack on top of the fuel pump and now that's where the leak is coming from.now his price to repair all is $770 + tax. After a few words more, the price dropped to $700 + tax.i feel that mercedes should just fix my vehicle and call it good. This learned that this car had a fuel pump installed at 59,000 miles. I missed their self imposed cut off date by about 6 weeks, not so much time for such a serious manufacturing defect to health and safety. The fumes inside my car and garage could have caused a fire or worse yet, an explosion. The problem first appeared after the first time i filled the tank.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320. After refueling the vehicle, there were strong fuel fumes emitting from inside the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Mercedes informed that they would not honor their warranty to cover their faulty fuel pumps. I have had several conversation with susan (executive referral manager) and she declined my request to pay for the invoice. My fuel pump failed and i had to have it replaced beforethe car had serious problems.
My car have a strong smell a gasoline on the back seat every time im refueling. Some times i have to open all the windows so the smell goes away.and some times a get the message check filler cap but al ready change the filler cap and the message still some times appear.

Smell of gas after i fill up at the pump.
On several occasions between 2005 and 2015, i smelled gas inside of my car after filling the tank. Gas soaked my back seat and carpet behind driver's seat, and leaked out the right (driver's) side of the car. When i took into the mercedes dealer in sugar land on april 9, 2008, they were unable to diagnose the problem. After then, i avoided filling up the tank. On december 12, 2012, i filled the tank by accident and the fuel soaked by back seat and leaked out the right side of the car. I took it to an auto repair shop, and the fuel pump seal was replace.then on july 1, 2014, the fuel pump went out and had to be replaced along with the fuel pump relay.
I begin to smell fumes after a fill up and replaced the filler cap.this did not solve the problem and the problem progressed.i was told by the dealership were i purchased the car that the fuel tank was leaking.the dealer wants $3,000.00 to repair something that should not be happening under normal ware.
I'm lucky to be alive!i purchased this car in 2005 and ever since i purchased my 2003 merc. Benz e320, it's been a crazy ride! here's a list of different issues that happened to me over the course of me owning this vehicle, which unfortunately i still do. I was driving with my little girl in tow and my brakes went out on me several times, my battery dies constantly, i had an issue when after i pumped gas you could smell fuel both inside my car & outside of my car, i literally one time had fuel pouring from the back of my car that ended on my garage floor. (thank god i don't smoke!) my suspension is constantly rattling, i have water that leaks on my feet when i drive occasionally and sometimes i have heat in the winter and sometimes i don't. I always have a check engine light on and as soon as i fix one, another one comes on. I currently had issues with code po134, po135 and had the o2 sensor changed, then my check engine light came back on and now i have codes po171 & po174 that i have no idea how to get fixed because it could be a number of issues. My battery drains when my electric seats are plugged in and so i have to have them unplugged to save my battery. Did i mention my back tire blew out on interstate 95 and i almost lost control of my car. It's devastating to pay the amount of money you do for this particular model, it's pretty on the outside and is a mess under the hood!is it normal when you have the ac on for it to sound like an airplane ready for take off?i'm tired of investing all kinds of money into this car, i just can't take it anymore!i can't even pass my va. State emissions test because of all these error codes (check engine light and malfunctions) and the state doesn't even find my car worthy of being on the roads.

We have been experiencing fumes of gas after the gas tank is completely filled. Later the car developed rough idling. We took the car to mercedes-benz of oklahoma city where the car has always been serviced for inspection, the dealership kept the car for four days. In the mean time we received a letter from mercedes-benz of usa notifying us of extension of warranty on fuel system for up to 15 years.when we asked the dealership about it we were told they know and are following the "bulletin" issued by the company. Initially we were told there was a leak on the top of the gas tank, however the car was returned to us by replacing the fuel filter under warranty. There was no paper work so we don't know what was actually diagnosed and done. The car is still idling rough, the fuel gauge is not reading correct (though the tank is full, gauge shows 1/4th empty).we will take the car back to the mercedes dealership tomorrow. Fuel leak is a serious matter, we wish the company had taken serious steps to fix it and had informed the customers of the actual problem. Hope nhtsa will look into this matter.

When filling fuel tank very strong smell of gas inside of car and outside. When to mercedes dealership and explained the fault and they wanted $5000 to correct issue.found out there was a safety recall on this issue, and they refused to expedite as they said it was for 15 years and that had expired. No recall notices had been sent to me or the previous owner.i have had car for 4 years, previos owner had it for 6.contacted head office in atlanta still would not cover the issue
Strong gasoline smell inside cabin has grown progressively worse over past year. Now it is constant - not just when the tank is filled. Have never added more gas after the nozzle shutoff when refilling - never top off the tank. I did not receive a letter from mb in jan 2015 as other have reported on internet. I have the car serviced exclusively at the mb dealership. The 2008 fuel recall was installed about 4 years ago.
I filled the tank and it leaks on the garage floor at a steady drip underneath the rear driver passenger side tire where the tank sits ...notice it leaking from the top of the tank coming down on to the floor...i cannot fill the tank and the smell and the amount of gas on the floor i believe is quite hazardous in an enclosed garage underneath a bedroom.
There is a strong gasoline smell coming from the car after i filled up at the local gas station. I noticed the smell was very strong in my garage and was able to trace it to my mercedes 2003 e320. Strong gas smell in garage after filling gas tank. Appeared to come from left rear side of the car. A few days later, the check engine light came on. Diagnosis by dealer is that there is a crack in the upper part of the gas tank. Gas tank and fuel assembly must be replaced. Estimate is for $3,000. Not covered by warranty and customer must pay full replacement cost.
Fuel smell coming from within cabin first noticed october 2018 told it was probably was charcoal filter not a big deal when filling tank with fuel it sometimes happens, and was recently noticed when tires where changed that fuel smell and looked like leakage of gas. Was told this was a known defect and as the second owner was never informed in any capacity. This is a safety concern which in my opinion if they knew, all owners should have been notified asap. I am not sure what i can do, or can be done, but this is certainly not acceptable if it is a known defect. This was noticed when vehicle was not moving. I want the american public to know, we may have others out their with the same problem not knowing this. What a shame for mercedes if they have not contacted people. I started reviewing what i could find on web sites, attached is a nhtsa document.

Sending unit leaks gasoline into the cabin of the vehicle letting in intense fuel vapors as well as actual liquid fuel into the cabin. Furthermore the faulty sending unit causes a fuel leak from the gas tank to the exterior of the vehicle leaving puddles outside of the car while parked and continuing to leak while driving. Both of these pose an extreme danger of fire hazard, as well as a health risk from constantly inhaling gasoline fumes.
Gas tank leaks, car is 2 years out of coverage for gas tank. The original program did not leave much room for 2003 owners to be eligible. The tank leak at the top is an inherent design flaw that mercedes admits is a problem but washes their hands of it after the program eligibility expiration. There is a noticeable gas smell coming from the left rear wheel area and the leak can be seen coming from the top of the tank when the fuel filter access plate is removed.

Car is used only for work and mostly highway driving for appointments.at 70,000 miles the transmission went out on the e320.an investigation reveled that a valve had failed in the radiator causing coolant from the engine to mix in with the transmission fluid which in turn burnt out parts in the transmission.also there is hesitation when stepping on the gas pedal the car sometimes sputters to shut off when stopping.
After fuel filter replacement, vehicle operated fine for about 7 miles. While idling a couple of minutes in the driveway upon return from the short trip, the return line hose exiting the fuel filter expanded, ruptured, and sprayed fuel out at a high rate. After hose was repaired, fuel gushed out of evaporative canister discharge tube and purge valve canister. Vise grips placed on the rubber tube leading from the return line to the canister stopped the gusher. New fuel filter that was just installed (pronto pf5416) was suspected to be defective - causing excessive return line fuel volume. With the poor design of the return line plumbing and restriction back to the tank, the excess volume was piling up in the evaporative canister and out the purge valve in a massive gushing leak. Once a second new fuel filter was fitted (purolator f65416), vehicle ran properly again without leakage - however, severe leakage from the top of the evaporative canister was noted during a fillup attempt shortly afterwards. This never occurred in the prior to the filter replacement. From all indications, the design is very poor and susceptible to any conditions which result in excessive return line fuel volume. The amount of fuel pouring out of the top of the evaporative canister assembly and discharge was indeed a fire and environmental hazard - the equivalent of an open fuel pump output discharge. In addition to all of this, during the filter replacement/testing process, loud banging was heard from the tank itself. Removal of the gas cap resulted in a massive pressure release. From my observations as a mechanic with over 25 years experience servicing foreign cars, the ventilation and fuel pressurization system on this vehicle is improperly designed and unsafe. Vehicle was on a lift while being serviced.
Smells gasoline when car is parked in garage and sometimes when driving smeels gasoline in cabin..srs restraints malfunction lights keeps coming on.
Vehicle was bought on 3/19/13 from a used car dealer. On 3/22/13 tank was filled and strong gas smell was noticed when parked in garage. Had mechanic replace both sending units on top of tank on 4/5/13.the problem with smell still exists everytime tank is filled, and seems to be concentrated by the left rear wheel well. We are very concerned, and are convinced that there is a defect with the fuel tank, which is most definitely a safety issue.
After filling fuel tank and parking car in garage, i noticed a strong fuel odor.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320. The contact stated that the vehicle emitted a strong gasoline fuel odor when the fuel tank was filled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to have a diagnostic performed. The failure was located at the fuel sending unit. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 153,000 and the current mileage was 159,000.
There is a strong distinct gasoline odor in the cabin of the car.this is most noticeable and strongest after refueling.
When i fill the gas tank of my 2003 mbz e320 there is always a strong smell of gas.emitting from my vehicle.
After filling up car there is a strong smell of gasoline inside.
I recently noticed the smell of gasoline in the cabin of my vehicle. As it got stronger i became more worried. When cleaning out the car today i noticed the driver side rear seat belt was stained near the bottom(smells like fuel). I pulled up the back seat and under the seat on the driver side rear there is a significant amour of fuel puddled and stained into the floor and around a circular looking cover of some sort. While looking on the internet i saw that it has been common in this year/model car.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320. The contact stated that the odor of fuel was present inside and outside the vehicle. The contact indicated that the odor was much stronger while the engine was turned on. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the fuel line injection system was faulty. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.
Daughter drives this car. I have owned it since 2005.mercedes never notified us nor made us aware of an extended warranty on the defective fuel tanks.a mechanic told us about the warranty and told us to contact mercedes immediately.february 2018 i contacted corporate office and they told me twice that i needed to have the car taken to mercedes dealership and have them confirmed the issue.twice mercedes corporate office reps told me to drive it to dealership and have them evaluate the car, contact corporate for an " exception".i did just so.the car runs okay, however, the strong gas smell inside the car is frightening and i had the car towed to the mercedes dealership because i could not chance my daughter dying in a automobile explosion.as a matter of fact, we have been renting cars from enterprise for my daughter for the past 2 months since her car is out of commission. For god's sake, she's our daughter and the car could explode!the dealership confirmed that the fuel tank is indeed defective and is eligible for the repair.however, the reps at corporate decided to not to extend the "exception" after all.mercedes never notified us of the fuel tank defect/recall/warranty extension.though it's drivable, i refuse to have my daughter risk her life.i did everything corp office said i should do and now they are back peddling.they are making us pay for the roundtrip towing and this is unfair.gross misrepresentation.driving with a fuel tank leak is deadly.they need to honor this repair.they should not have instructed me to tow a car to their authorized dealership if they knew from the beginning that they were not going to make the exception.
My 2003 mercedes e320 had less than 40,000 miles when thetransmission and struts started to present problems.the dealer was able to make repairs under warranty.now at 78,000 miles, i'm being told that i need to replace the parking prawns due a leak in the back of the transmission.the bushing on the left side also needs to be replaced.i just had a bushing replaced about 6 months ago, which was a bit pricey.when they replaced one of the bushings under warranty a few years ago, they should have replaced all of them.i have encountered numerous with this car.i purchased it with only 37 miles on it in september 2003, but replacement of a number of parts while under warranty now leads me to believe that this car was a lemon from the beginning.is it normal to have the air pump replaced at 73,000 miles?again, that was a pricey repair -- $1100.00.
I purchased a mercedes-benz e320 in june 2003 and have continued to have an issue involving uncontrolled acceleration and speed "surges" since september 2003.the condition seems to be more prevalent when the vehicle is approaching low speeds or in a downhill planethe dealership has attempted to repair the vehicle during five (5) service appointments and has acknowledged they are aware of the uncontrolled power, or acceleration, fluctuations.they have attempted to repair the vehicle using m-b advice; without success.m-b representatives have acknowledged this condition exists as well; but, that it is not a "warrantable defect."this "surging" has further developed into "bucking" on several occcasions causing loss of control of the vehicle.this condition appears to be similar to other complaints filed with the nhtsa regarding the e320 where the torque converter lock up is described.i do believe it is a safety hazard due to the inability to control the power / speed fluctuations of the vehicle.
On june 6, 2013, while braking on approaching intersection, brakes failed and transmission locked. Mercedes customer assistance towed vehicle to dealer, m-b greenway, houston, tx, where the service advisor explained that the pressure reservoir of thesensotronic brake unit had failed and must be replaced at a cost of $1,350. I complained that the sbc unit was the subject of nhtsa safety recall 05v0133 and two mbusa recall campaigns (2005070007 and 2005110001) resulting in the extension of the original warranty to 10 years with no mileage limitation. The dealer refused to honor the warranty or replace the entire sbc unit, because the electronic diagnostic code required by mb usa, llc for a dealer to file a warranty claim under the nhtsa 05v033 campaign did not appear on the diagnostic equipment. I paid the disputed $1,350 charge and drove the car about 6 miles on june 6, 2013, and the brakes again failed and the transmission locked. Mercedes customer assistance towed it back to m-b greenweay, where the service stated the entire sbc unit had failedand must be replaced at a cost of $2,030. I complained that the replacement was mandated at no cost by nhtsa 05v0133, but she said mb usa llc would allow the dealer to honor the sbc warranty because the car was "driven out of the shop."she also refused to credit the $1,350 charge i paid for the sbc pressure reservoir replacement, but offered to"discount" the replacement of the entire sbc unit to "$1,799."
While driving at any speed and when depressing the brakes consumer heard a noise coming from the engine.the noiseoccurred at least 23 times since ownership of the vehicle.also, transmission caused the vehicle to jerkwhen the gas pedal was depressed. Dealerexamined the vehicle three times.
While driving at any speed vehicle stalled. Consumer restarted vehicle, and drove it to dealer for inspection.mechanic determined that transmission and computer sensor needed to be replaced, and replaced them. However, the problem recurred, and the mechanic could not duplicate the problem.
Generally consumer's vehicle hesitates to motion when immediately pressing the gas pedal. Once in gearvehicle suddenly accelerates, resulting in a jerk.
Smells gasoline when car is parked in garage and sometimes when driving smeels gasoline in cabin..srs restraints malfunction lights keeps coming on.
The consumer was involved in a frontal collision, in which the speed was undetermined. The seat belt failed to hold the consumer.the consumer received head injuries and was transported to the local hospital.
There is a sensor in the passenger seat that is defective causing the front passenger airbag to turn off, even when a passenger is properly seated.
Went to start the car and at first the key wouldn't turn over i had to keep taking put and inserting it at a different side it eventually started. Soon as it turned over the brake light esp and abs light started flashing the car is stuck in park.
Sbc brake failure. Brakes not working. Car refused to stop. I put it on park and jumped out.
Brakes seeemed to working fine and out of no where at 65mph a red notification came on the dash saying "reduced braking effect/longer stopping distance visit workshop". Mercedes is aware of this because they extended the warranty on the sbc unit the is needed to safely operate the car but didn't do a recall and eventually stopped installing this part in the models. If the vehicle is 10 years old plan to shell out thousands since the part isn't covered and it is unsafe to drive because your brakes may go at any time. I have 96k on my vehicle and because it is over 10 years old the faulty part that the manufacturer knew about is not covered. The part is designed to malfunction at 300,000 compressions and this can happen at any time. This is unsafe and should be recalled! i hope someone doesn't have to die for benz to do something about it!
Vehicle suddenly showed brake reduce "require longer braking distance". I had the same issue before but i did not pay special attention of it because i thought it would just be a brake pad replacement indicator. Until i sent the car in at the dealer for service, they told me that it was an issue related to the sbc unit. Later, i found it online that it was a common known issue for 2003-2005 model. This could be very dangerous for people who was driving the vehicle on freeway if something like this happened. I called the manufacture and all they said was the unit would only be covered within a 10 year period and they did not have any other solution provided.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320. The contact stated that the abs sensor illuminated intermittently. The dealer stated that the sbc system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v133000 (service brakes, hydraulic ). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 106,000.
When i'm stoping the car, the breaks did not work as it should, and the stop distance increased by 50% !!on august 10th i was in the on the way between charlotte and nashville, in the mountains curves way down, i used the breaks, the car almost got out of control.... I felt like the front and rear breaks don't do any synchronization to stop the car, its making the car losing control on the curves.....i red on this issue on internet i found that mercedes has used a new breaking system for this car and stop installing this system it in 2006! the reason why they stop using this because it 100% electronic breaks system, it called sbc (sensotronic brake control )when this threshold is reached the brake system defaults to non power assisted hydraulic mode to the front wheels only. This occurs without any prior warning and results in increased stopping distance. I have sent a copy of the mercedes service bulletin s142.46-p-0012a which addresses this issue. Mercedes stopped installing this system in 2006. At the very least, mercedes should issue a mandatory recall to interrogate these vehicles with star das to determine how close to the service threshold the sbc unit is and replace them at the dealer's expense. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed.
I was driving to work when my brake system failed. My car displayed a code stating "brake defective; stop vehicle". This occurred on a busy highway in rush hour traffic. I am a pregnant female and was in the car alone, it was terrifying. After having my car towed to the dealership, i learned of an extended 10 year warranty on the sbc unit of my car. Since i bought this car used, i was not the "registered user" even though i have the loan and title in my name. The warranty expired in sept of 2013. After my car was diagnosed, it was found that it was the defective sbc unit that failed me. I had previous similar codes (none that caused my brakes to fail) related to this sbc unit defect in april 2011 & august 2013 to which i purchased new brakes. It is not know whether this was necessary or not since my code of "service brake" at those times are a part of the faulty sbc unit and not necessarily related to the safety of my brakes. After my case was reviewed and denied at the corporate level, my husband and i had to shell out $1135 to fix the part ourselves. My husband was previously laid off and just started a new job in june. I feel it is unfair that we had to pay this money when we take good care of the car and were not privy to the information to fix the brake system within the warranty time. I worry about other people who have this car, are unaware of the warranty, and are outside the warranty. I was lucky to not have damage or injury. I feel mercedes should be held accountable. I also feel i should be reimbursed as this was not a wear and tear issue and i feel it was handled unfairly on the corporate level of mercedes. Thank you for your time.
Abs brake system failure. While operating the vehicle a warning light blinks in the cluster panel. Then the vehicle loses all braking power. On monday september 5th, i was driving on the highway, 110th south bound 1 mile south from downtown los angeles, suddenly a warning light appear with the following message 'brakes defective stop vehicle' the cars begins to downshift and it slows down. However the brake does not work in full. It appears that the brake works enough to come to stop after the vehicle has downshifted to the lowest gear. All braking ability is disable. After i research the code and narrow to the problem that i had, i noticed that merecedes benz had extended the warranty for the abs pump for these models for 10 years, since my vehicle is 2003 the warranty had expired on 2013. This is an electronic braking system so if an electric failure occurs there is no way to stop the vehicle. There is no manual brake power other than the emergency brake in order to stop this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320. The contact stated that the brake warning indicator illuminated continuously without the ignition being turned to the on position. The failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the sbc united needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 153,000.
The sbc unit for the brake system is bound to fail there was a 10 year recall on this but not all vehicle where done now mercedes attitude is oh well bad luck pay us and we will fix our faulty part
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed with a delayed response from the vehicle. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the sensotronic brake control would need to be replaced. There was a recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 04v296000 (service brakes, hydraulic), however the contact's vin was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes-benz e320. While driving at various speeds and attempting to depress the brake pedal, the brakes failed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the hydraulic pump failed and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 144,000.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes-benz e320. The contact stated thatthe brake warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the sbc hydraulic unit failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 43,000.
I was driving ewa bound on beretania street at about 7:45pm at speed 25mph. The car had a red warning and beeps said brake malfunction, stop vehicle! at this time my car can not brake at all because the brake was completely not working when my car is driving. I have to put in neutral and use the assistance brake to stop the car.luckily i was not on highway with fast speed! i found out this is common happen to this model due to the fault of sbc abs brake pump. Parts is breaking down but not on brake pump happen when the car is driving. It is totally dangerous!mercedes should have recall to correct the problem.please investigate and enforcing mercedes to improve.thanks
Vehicle presented with red light indicating to take vehicle to workshop in red. Braking was extremely difficult, srs system stalled the vehicle, emergency mode was activited,we were unable, at first to turn on the ignition switch. The vehicle operated as if it was paralyzed. We finally got the vehicle to run and reset the code by turning the steering wheel. The vehicle is very dangerous to drive if you are not prepared for longer stopping distances, thankfully my husband was able to get the vehicle to the dealership. I found myself not strong enough to press on the brake pedal for adequate braking distance. This car left me with no brakes at all driving with children in the car. This i'd not safe!
The sbc brake unit failed while i was on vacation. The rest of the brake system works fine. Mercedes recalled this brake system and knew it was unsafe, however now they will not replace the part unless i pay and the cost is $2,500.00 per the dealer. Without it the car is garbage. It is an electronic braking system.
Brake failure occurred with no prior warning.brakes are electronically controlled and complete loss of braking occurred while vehicle was in motion.red "brake" and "abs" lights in dash started flashing along with continuous beeping.was able to bring vehicle to a stop within parking lot by using parking brake.upon shutting off and restarting engine, vehicle regained braking.car will not be driven until issue is addressed.
This vehicle is equipped with sensotronic brake control that has a service threshold. When this threshold is reached the brake system defaults to non power assisted hydraulic mode to the front wheels only. This occurs without any prior warning and results in increased stopping distance. I have sent a copy of the mercedes service bulletin s142.46-p-0012a which addresses this issue. Dealership failed to fix and inspect my sbc pump which lead to my vehicle being totaled and losing esp.
I was traveling on a secondary road at a speed of 30mph when the mfd turned red, started beeping and stated brake failure, stop driving. When i attempted to stop, the brake pedal went to the floor and the transmission automatically down shifted.after pulling the car to the side of the road, i put the transmission in park where it locked in place. After fifteen minutes the sbc reset itself and the transmission unlocked. The vehicle was removed to the mercedes dealer where i purchased it. The mercedes tech stated that the sbc needs to be replaced. I was told there was a 10 year warranty on the sbc unit, but it expired in june 2013. I am the original owner and mercedes benz usa stated that they did not notify the owners of the warranty extension or of the problems with the sbc. The cost to replace the sbc is $2,000.
I been driving mercedes for passed 20 years but never experienced scary moment like this. Thursday 09/01/16 on my way home from work out of nowhere red brake warning light lid up my whole dash with big stop sign in the middle, flashing with esp and abs saying visit workshop and i lost 90% of braking power.luckily, it happened on open road with cars far ahead of me. Pulled aside and after few restarts warning went off and i made it safely home without towing service, keeping my left foot close to emergency brake pedal. Google search revealed to my surprise very common problem with bosch sbc units installed in this model. Is this even possible for one of the top names in the world to limit their service cycle to 300,000 brake pedal applications? are some of the top engineers involved out of their mind? mercedes, is it safe to drive this car in highway speeds with two kids in it? would one of the engineers like to take my car on the autobahn now to proof their point? i believe the counter is up with 13 years and 122k miles of service because all other brake components checked fine. Unbelievable??? where is the safety recall??? ended in 10 years??? what a shame for both mercedes and bosch names.
First incident, brakes! visit workshop! message was illuminated on the information system. Took the vehicle to the dealer and vehicle was diagnosed with sbc pump failure. Dealer replaced part under extended warranty for this part because it has a known defect.second incident, on april 25, 2013, one day after i took my car from the dealer, stop!, reduced brake power, esp malfunction message appeared. I stopped the car and had it towed to the dealer. Dealer replaced the part again stating that they only have re-manufactured ones and the one i had got was a bad re-manufactured part. Dealer replaced part again.third incident, on may 1 2013, 5 days after i picked up my car stop!, reduced brake power and esp malfunction light came on again when i was pulling into a garage at a hotel. I came close to hitting the car in front of me that was taking a ticket to get into the garage. I don't know what could have happened if i was going faster than i was. The brake will not work at all once these messages appear.
Brakes just when out on it and they have a recall but is good for just 10 they need to be respons for this problem making cars with no brakes is a deith wish i hope you guys do something about it is not safe at all
First incident, brakes, visit workshop message appeared on the information system. Took the car to the dealer and vehicle was diagnosed with sbc pump failure. Mercedes had extended this warranty to 10 years because of know defects to the part so all parts and labor were covered.
Mercedes stopped installing this system in 2006. At the very least, mercedes should issue a mandatory recall to interrogate these vehicles with star das to determine how close to the service threshold the sbc unit is and replace them at the dealer's expense. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes e320. The contact was driving approximately 50 mph when the brake warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact depressed the brake pedal but the vehicle would not respond. The vehicle eventually came to a stop. The contact shut the engine off and after restarting the vehicle the brake system functioned without failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vin was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 160,000.
I was driving down a side road by a college in lowell ma and my dash board lite up and starting beeping. Said brake failure sort stopping distance, visit work shop asap. I tried to stop the car but it was very hard stopping it, i honked the horn because i was coming up on a school crossing( thank god) they all moved out of the way because i would have ran over them all. I got the car stopped and shut it off, police over saw the whole thing and pulled up behind me and i explained what happened, we went to go start the car up and all the light where off and the car seemed fine, there was no way i was taking that chance again so i called a tow truck and had it towed to my garage, mechanic just called me and said nothing was stored in the computer system and the brakes are working fine now. He checked on line to see if there where any other complaint about this issue and informed there a lot of problem from mercedes benz owners on this issue. I will not drive this car again, i could have killed all those people in the walk way because of this problem that mercedes is aware of. Please help ! i just looked up the same information on google and there are hundred of complaint about the same issue, my brakes are new. It is a electrical problem that they are aware of.
Sbc pump went out in the middle of the night, on a lonely, dark two lane road without any notice that there was a brake issue, approximately 200+ miles from my home. Message indicator in car started beeping and an emergency message displayed stating brake malfunction, stop vehicle. Car hardly any brake power and could not be driven over 35 mph. Pulled over and now car would not come out of park. Had to wait 3 hours for a tow truck! luckily i did not have my family with me of which includes small children!
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes-benz e320. While driving 30 mph down an incline, a "brakes are defective" message appeared. The contact depressed the brake pedal, but the vehicle did not stop. The contact had to shift into neutral and apply the emergency brake lever to get the vehicle to come to a complete halt. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the sensatronic module for the brake system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that the failure was previously repaired per a voluntary recall. The failure mileage was 130,000.
I have a 2003 e320 mercedes benz with sbc brake system. The company has admitted having issues with the system and has extended the warranty to 25 years on the sbc pump. My car has on about 4 or 5 incidents gave me a red warning on my dash to stop the vehicle and see workshop. Each time this happens my braking ability is significantly reduced to the point of needing a lot of distance to stop. I have had the brake system flushed, that worked for a while. Around january of 2018 the dealer updated some kind of software package. January 2020 the brake issue happen again. I am being told that unless a certain default code is indicated they cannot replace the pump. I told mercedes customer service that how will i know that the next time my braking is reduced will be my last time that will cause death or property damage to other drivers or my self before this default code comes up, a code no one will tell me what it is. I was told that they understood my concern but until this default code comes up they cannot replace the sbc . Ifind that statement to be not consider of life and property damage on our national highways
Red warning light illuminated on dash flashing warning driver " reduced braking effect visit workshop" and " increase braking distance visit workshop:.after research this warning is displayed because the sensotronic braking system has failed and reverted to hydraulic system has taken effect as backup. This condition was subject to nhstb recall #'s 2004050014 and 2005110001. I contacted mercedes usa customer service and was refused help. I asked to speak to someone up the chain of command and received a call from a case manager who stated that my vehicle had been repaired by mercedes and that they had no further obligation to assist me with this problem. I have studied mercedes service bulletins and by their own admission the vehicles that are subject to these recalls have notes within the service bulletin that "please note that recall and service campaigns do not expire and may be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator"it is further stated in mercedes service bulletin that the "sensotronic brake control unit pump motor may run out of permissible tolerances thereby triggering the hydraulic back up function mode. Further, "greater brake pedal pressure is required and the brake pedal travel will be noticeably longer which could lead to a vehicle crash".to this day mercedes engineers are attempting to repair this problem with software fixes which is the subject of another mercedes service bulletin.the refusal of mercedes to repair an obvious hazardous condition of a component that does not function as designed in unacceptable.it is my opinion that the vehicle poses a threat to not only the operator but others if operated under these conditions. Please help me i have not allowed my wife to operate what i believe to be an unsafe vehicle.
Mercedes-benz has diagnosed my sbc pump unit, in writing, as "faulty."they have then gone on to deny and refuse to acknowledge the recall published on this website: nhtsa campaign number: 05v133000.according to 2 mercedes dealerships, and mbusa customer care and claim department, there is no such thing as a recall on the sbc unit, or have they ever heard of nhtsa campaign number: 05v133000 -- there is, however, a limited warranty for the sbc pump.after doing some independent research, it is clear that after recall: nhtsa campaign number: 05v133000, had been submitted to the nhtsa, it has gone completely unacknowledged from that point on.mercedes has instead "rebranded" it as a warranty-recall, under internal campaign #2005110001, which no longer covers the sbc pump itself, only the wiring around it.there is clearly a conflict/contradiction here, as the mbusa.com website refers to the service on my car (by vin) as 05v-311, but the invoice i received from mercedes-benz refers to it as [xxx]. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Sbc brake unit which control the brakes just failed when driving on highway, very limited braking, very scary when you are driving 70mph. I have read that this is major issue with mercedes benz ,some kind of penalty should be assessed to them because this is a dangerous situation. It just cost me 2380.73 to get my car fixed and i understand this is a problem that will keep happening over and over again. Hopefully it's a situation that the ntsb can look into about this defected unit from mercedes benz. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e-320. The contact stated the brakes and spc warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the brakes and sensors were replaced however, the failure recurred. While driving at 35 mph the brake pedal was depressed however but failed to slow and stop the vehicle as designed. The contact used the parking brake to stop the vehicle. Additionally, the brake pedal fluctuated. The vehicle was taken to w.i. Simonson mercedes-benz (1626 wilshire blvd, santa monica, ca 90403 (855) 677-2690), where it was diagnosed that the spc reservoir was defective, and hydraulic unit also needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not contacted nor informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 216,722.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320. The contact stated that the service visit workshop warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the sbc pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 139,000.
I own a 2003 e320 mercedes benz with 67,000 miles. I took my car to a dealership and was told my sbc unit needs to be replaced. I was also told that the warranty on this component was extended but is now outside the extended warranty period. Why was not covered by a recall rather than just an extended warranty?this seems to indicate mercedes is acknowledging a faulty component. This appears to potentially affect safety so i would hope mercedes would be eager to replace the sbcs.
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320. The contact stated that braking system hesitated to engage when the brake pedal was depressed. The contact also stated that the brake pedal was depressed numerous times in order to stop the vehicle. In addition, the gear shifter became stuck in park. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed that the abs pump unit failed.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 05v133000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 137,714.
The w211 mercedes (e-class) have sensotronic brake control (sbc) units for the brakes. When, not if, but when they go out, there is no prior warning or anything at all. All braking ability just stops out of nowhere. This is obviously a huge safety concern because all brakes in the car stop working. This issue is well known and mercedes needs to change out the sbc pumps on these cars because the consequences can, and will, be disastrous.
I purchased my current vehicle 18 months ago used. This weekend the giant stop light came on asking me to take the car into the dealership due to defective brakes. It turns out it's the sbc pump which was recalled by mercedes benz. Except, benz will not repair it as it's a 2003 and out of their 10 year rule. It's a $2100 i cannot afford and cannot sell vehicle with this issue as i fear it may cause harm to others. A friend suggested i ask for nhtsa's help as benz is unwilling to stand by the recall and repair the safety issue.
My wife and i were traveling northbound on texas hwy 281 just north on marble falls texas. I noticed a train coming and started to slow down and made the decision to stop for the train!well at that time my brake dash warning came on and it was all red and my brakes failed. Their i was not able to stop going 75 miles per hour (legally) and i could not stop and it was way to late for the train to stop also so i floored it to get over the tracks then i finally came to a safe stop.i searched the internet for a fix and to my surprise mercedes had known of this for many years and stopped all help with the issue when the car reached 10 years old. This car should be fixed by the company that knowingly put it on the road with an experimental new type of braking system then tells owners down the road to kiss their butt. And its now the owners problem.what a deal my car is in great shape but has a defective experimental braking system that mercedes will not even discuss fixing.i should have bought a corvair or maybe a pinto at least you can stop them! wow why have you not jumped all over this manufacture about this deadly problem even you have known for years!but no one has told me??? the title should be marked deadly in bold letters.
I was driving my 2003 mercedes benz e 320 on april 3,2008.all of a sudden a sign appeared on the dash board that brake was disabled and i was unable to control the vehicle without a brake and still it was running.some how i managed to drive the vehicle to a parking lot on left and stopped it by changing the gear to parking.if it was happening after 10 second it would have collided with other vehicles inhigh speed in a major intersection and i wouldn't be in the face of the earth today.later i found out that the brake system of 2003 e 320 was in recall.when i checked with the dealer they said it was replaced before and there is no more warranty.i had to pay $2500 to fix the problem from my pocket.i am so upset about this incident - more than the money - the negligence of mercedes benz can risk the life of many peoplelike me driving mercedes 2003 e320 model with faulty brake which break down without any warning while going in high speed.what shall i do in this matter?
When the car was two months old, 1500 miles, a warning light came on telling me that my brakes may not be working and that i should stop driving immediately.in fact the brakes were not working and i had a hard time stopping on the side of the highway.the car was towed to knauz mercedes in lake bluff.they still have not told me what went wrong but say that they have gotten new parts and the brakes should be fine.
Care-320 mercedes benz 2003 with 53404 mileswhile my wife was driving this car, the vehicle panel indicated a total brake failure and she had no breaking response from the car at all.she was traveling at around 40 mph but says she had no one in front of her so she let the car coast to a stop, she had no breaking power at all.at this time she called me and i had her take photos of the car panel lights and then i contacted mercedes benz.we know that there has been a recall for this issue on these vehicles, based on information that i found filed with nhtsa.the biggest problem is that the exact same incident happened to her on this same vehicle back in january of 2009.at the time of that incident she was at a parking lot and driving very slowly.we contacted mercedes benz and were told to bring the car in.mb said that the car required an sbc control unit upgrade (software) and the job was done at no cost to us.so here we are, 16 months and about 9,000 miles later with the same issue again, both times this problem could have resulted in a serious accident and we are happy that this was not the case.although mb has already made an appointment for us and i was told that the problem will be resolved at mb's cost, this time they indicated to me they will be replacing some part (?) and not just doing an electronic update.of course my wife is now very scared to drive this car, even if they do the repairs and i do not blame her.we will see.in doing internet research i found many other complains that are very similar, where there is a total electronic failure of the break system (no stopping power at all, no dual-system back-up).in other complaints if the car is turned off and then re-started the problem goes away.this is exactly what happened to my wife's car.this problem is serious enough that should be properly addressed and research so as to avoid accidents.
Strong odor of fuel when gas tank is full...i am not topping off the tank when i refuel...dealership states i need entire gas tank replaced at a cost of 3000.00..i purchased this car used in march 2011 with approx 107,000 miles.
I was driving on route 5, branch ave., near clinton, md, about 30 mph, down slight decline of a hill, approaching a place in the road where cars can enter the highway from both the left and the right.as we normally do, i pressed on the breaks to slow down, in case one of the cars sitting on both the left and right, decided to enter on to branch ave.my brakes failed - the foot peddle went completely to the floor when i was trying to slow down, there was little to no control in the steering wheel and i looked at the dashboard and it was lit up in red warning lights , first saying brake need maintenance (or something) at first.i manage to get the car to steer towards the right to get on the side of the road, hoping the rough terrain would help to slow the car to a stop.by this time the red warning lighted up dash board said stop, brake failure or something. The car finally stopped and i turned if off.i am 59 year old woman and was absolutely petrified - my whole body was shaking from the fear that i was going to wreck on this busy highway.luckily for me the cars waiting to enter the road, did not and cars on the highway slowed down and went around me while the car was coasting towards the side of the road.there was no warning light telling me to get the brakes services - they just failed while i was driving on the freeway.i called mercedes roadside service for them to pick up the car.after an hour and they had not arrived, i turned the car on, there was no red light.i pressed the brake and it didn't go to the floor but it was soft and went nearly to the floor.i kept pumping the breaks - something i used to see my father do - thinking that would bring the breaks back up so that i could at least drive back home to awaitservice truck. I let mercedes service know, then i slowly drove back, side roads, pulling over to allow cars to pass until got home.

2003 mercedes benz e320.consumer writes in regards to sensotronic brake control failure.the consumer stated a warning light appeared on the dashboard that read braking effect reduced please visit workshop. The consumer was quoted a price of $1925.00 for the replacement of the hydraulic unit.
The contact owned a 2003 mercedes benz e320. He was driving 35mph on 12-15-05 when the brakes failed and a crash occurred which severely injured his shoulder.a police report was filed and the contact was given a citation.the contact noticed a yellow brake warning light prior to the failure on the instrument panel.the contact stated he sustained injuries from his toes to the top of his head including a concussion and memory loss. He was taken to an emergency room who only diagnosed him with a fractured ankle. The brake pads were replaced three to four weeks prior to the failure. The contact later found out that the recall repair was not performed at that time but was directly related to the failure. He had been confined to a couch or a bed since the crash occurred due to the injuries he sustained. He also had a fractured vertebrae, his hips and knees were snapped, he lost one kidney and his stomach was placed behind his heart during surgery twice for the bleeding through his arteries. The contact stated that recall 04v296000 , service brakes, hydraulic mfr's report date: jun 22, 2004 and nhtsa campaign id number: 05v133000 , service brakes, hydraulic, mfr's report date: mar 31, 2005 are directly related to the failure. The electronic braking system was engineered improperly and was no longer being installed in mercedes benz. He stated that nhtsa thought that mercedes would take care of the recall and its customers; however, they failed to do so. The insurance agent confirmed that the vehicle was destroyed. The doctor had not noticed the extent of several of his injuries for at least 4 years. He also had three eye surgeries within the last six months and the problem still had not been corrected. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 19,000.
On several occasions when starting my vehicle, the dashboard would go completely red, followed by beeping and an esp warning, saying limited breaking.the pedal would go to the floor at that point.sometimes i would already have the shift engaged before the lights went off and would have to use the emergency brake to stop the car.we researched and found the recall regarding the hydraulic braking system and took the car to a mercedes dealer for repair. We were advised by the repair shop that if the recalled part was the problem, then the dashboard would light up and we'd have no brakes.we explained thatis exactly what happens, but they would not repair the vehicle until they saw that happen themselves.after keeping the car for 3 days, they returned it saying it was the reservoir which would cost appox. $1800 to replace.we called mercedes corporate about this also, but they have yet to call us back.looking into the recalled unit, it appears this is all one system and therefore should have been replaced under the recall.i had the car for a couple weeks without another incident until this weekend when i had been driving the car for approximately one hour and after about a half hour of not braking the dashboard lit up red while i was doing approximately 45-50 mph.i tried to brake, but there were no brakes.fortunately it was very early in the morning and very few people on the road.i was able to pull to the side and use my emergency brake to stop the car.after turning the car off and on about five times, it finally stopped warning me and i was able to drive and park the car safely.if this braking system is known as faulty and was part of a massive recall, why can't i get my car fixed?
03 mercedes e320 customer believes that vehicle is a lemon**ccthe consumer stated the vehicle has a faulty brake system. The vehicle continued to surge forward while in acceleration mode.the brake lights on the vehicle displayed defects, the emergency brake signal warning light illuminated, so the brake light switch, and pads were replaced. The wiper blades were replaced. The left rear tire had a slow leak
The contact owns a 2003 mercedes benz e320.when the contact exited the interstate, an alarm began to sound, indicating that there were no brakes.the following day, the brakes were working properly.the dealer replaced the sbc controller for free.the contact referenced nhtsa campaign id number 05v133000 (service brakes, hydraulic).the vin and speed were unknown.the failure mileage was 35,000.
-the brake system failed.the contact felt it should be fixed during a recall in 2004.the vehicle was operating without incident. On 12/29/06 the car would not stop at a red traffic light when the brakes were applied.the contact narrowly avoided a crash.the vehicleis presently at the dealer.updated 2/6/2007 - the vehicle was taken to the dealer and diagnostic test were performed.the dealer determined that the sbc control unit needed to be reflashed.
I was driving my 2003 mercedes benz e 320 and all of a sudden a sign appeared on the dash board that brake was disabled and i was unable to control the vehicle without a brake and still it was running. Some how i managed to drive the vehicle to a parking lot on left and stopped it by changing the gear to parking. If it was happening after 10 second it would have collided with other vehicles in high speed in a major intersection and i wouldn't be in the face of the earth today. Later i found out that the brake system of 2003 e 320 was in recall. When i checked with the dealer they said it was replaced before and there is no more warranty. I had to pay $2500 to fix the problem from my pocket. I am so upset about this incident - more than the money - the negligence of mercedes benz can risk the life of many people like me driving mercedes 2003 e320 model with faulty brake which break down without any warning while going in high speed. What shall i do in this matter?
I was driving approximately 45 mph when the red dash warning light came on brake failure stop immediately visit workshop. The red emergency brake light and the amber abs light also came on. The vehicle started to automatically downshift into lower gears and i was able to pull off the road and stop using the emergency brake since the brakes were not working and i had the brake pedal to the floor.i wasable to get the vehicle home using the emergency brake to stop the vehicle and the next day when i started the vehicle everything worked fine.i took it to my local mercedes-benz dealer and they updated the software for the sbc control unit.they also verified that all recall service for this vehicle had been previously performed.had this incident occurred during an emergency braking situation or at a high speed i feel that this would have resulted in an accident.
New mercedes e320 was purchased on may 31, 2003 from bobby rahal motorcar company in wexford, pa. The car has had two serious problems within 25 days of its purchase, both being serious and could be life threatning:1. The seat easy function malfunctioned. It pushed the seat right to the steering wheel and almost caused choking due to pressing of the chest against the steering wheel(june 13, 2003)2. Lost the pump for the fluid pressure to the steering wheel while the car was in motion at 35 miles/hour on a hilly curving road. Steering wheel became very hard and steering became extremely difficult - almost rigid to turn. This could have caused a head on collision with opposing incoming traffic ( june 25, 2003)dealer repaired it but refuses to give any assurance about the safety of the car. When he was suggested to replace the car for safety issues that had occurred in 25 days, he had refused.
Dealer claims mb has no recall on this car even though nhtsa has a recall number: 19v918 for glass panel detaching from vehicle. Please advise me of next steps to get dealer compliance.
I pushed the remote button on the key fob to unlock the car and the left rear door popped open , now i cannot close the door. The lock will not catch to close the door.had to tie the door shut with the seatbelt to drive it home.i'm being told that the door lock just all of a sudden went bad , it could have happen while driving.the lock has to be replaced , cost ...over $500 it seems strange to me that this part is so overpriced compared to other models. It has to be a defectthat mercedes is well aware of.i'm glad i wasn't in motion when it happen .i feel this should be a recall.
Problem #1). The interior driver and passenger door handles have a chrome tape of some type that covers the handles. This tape overtime comes off on the inside and it is extremely sharp like a razor. I cut my finger twice on the driver-side and a passenger got cut on the passenger side a year later. I contacted mercedes about this and they wouldn't do or offer anything.problem #2). The driver and passenger sun visors overtime get very very stiff and will not go back all the way up. My wife can not even move them at all.i also verbally reported these problems to penske mercedes in west covina, ca to my service writer and he stated "yes we are aware as it is a common problem however there is no recall on those items". He wanted to charge me $275 for each sun visor to be replaced and that did not include labor to install them.problem #3). Lower ball joints go out quite frequently and is also a "known common problem".
Safety and reliability of the mercedes benz airmatic suspension systems is a major issue, please check car owner forums as there are many cars as new as 2007 and 2008's that have airmatic suspension safety and reliability issues, these cars are prone to airmatic suspension problems from the c class sport models to the e and s classes as well,i have never seen such mass repair and safety issues, however most or all people that have the airmatic suspensions will at some point have repairs that can result in the car dropping to the ground while driving with no warning, we are speaking cars that are by most standards considered to be low mileage vehicles, my car has 64k miles and is a mercedes 2003 e320, the front airsprings go out without warning, you will receive a dash warning only after the suspension has given out,. There are 4 airsprings for my car at a repair cost for the front airsprings at a cost of $1,500.00 per side, and knowing that there are 2 more airsprings in the rear of the car that could give out without warning rendering the vehicle inoperable once again, so you literally have four possibilities of suspension failure, you will be at the mercy of a flatbed tow truck, as well as damage to the underside of the cars as they sit so low to the ground that it makes it very difficult to tow, knowing that the rubber bellows on the suspension of these cars are very fragile and cannot be repaired causing mass failure of the airspring unit, the unit is sold as a dealer only item at a cost of $1,000.00 each for each front side and cannot be repaired..the fact is that the suspension systems are faulty when you have so many mass failures....my car is not drivable at this time and failed with no warning at all, would it have been acceptable had the suspension failed or dropped while driving the car, i am blessed to have not had the suspension fail while driving, as this could have been a very dangerous safety situation.....
I have problem with front suspencion on floor
While driving at any speed vehicle pulled to the right. Dealerinspectedvehicle several times, and could notsolve the problem. The last time vehiclewas at the dealer, techniciandetermined the need to buy a special kit for vehicle alignment.manufacturer refused to correct problem even though vehicle is under warranty.*la
The air strut suspension has failed on left and right front
Left coil spring broke while i was driving, and the car veered abruptly to the left approximately 3 feet. The car should've been towed, but i was so close to mitch carrs's that i drove it very slowly to them.
Strong odor of fuel when gas tank is full...i am not topping off the tank when i refuel...dealership states i need entire gas tank replaced at a cost of 3000.00..i purchased this car used in march 2011 with approx 107,000 miles.
While pulling into a parking space the front rt. Side suspension began to sink.i got out of the car to take a look and noticed the airbag suspension had completely collapsed.i tried pressing a few buttons to raise the suspension and nothing.the collapse of the airbag suspension was instantaneous and with brief notice.

My husband was driving the car with my 10 year old son on i276 at 55mph when the brakes failed. Luckily enough there was no car in front of them and since they were on a highway he had time to stop without causing an accident or crushing. We towed the car to the mercedes dealership and we were told that sbc failed and we have to pay $2000. Had the car towed to mercedes benz of fort washington in fort washington, pa. The dealer examined the vehicle and said the sbc unit has to be replaced and the cost is $2000. I did some research and it appears that i was not the only customer with this major safety problem. This unit failed on many customers and apparently there was an extended warranty offered up to 10 years. I have to say that i was very disappointed that mercedes never notified its customers of this situation. The dealer never notified me of this potential problem and they expect me to pay the repair cost for a safety issue that should have been addressed??to make matters worse, after i reached out to mercedes-benz usa, i was told that the part would have been covered under the 10 year term only if it failed which is an appalling statement. So i would have to crashbefore the part is replaced?? this is the absolutely most ridiculous thing i have ever heard from a car manufacturer. I have asked the representative for his manager's contact information and he refused to provide it. The sbc unit should be covered at no expense to the consumer because it was known faulty safety issue.
The vehicle's gear shift became very hot when the vehicle was parked in the sun for a long period of time. As a result the driver burned his hands. Please provide any additional information.
I am concerned that the arm for the crusie control is too close to the turn signal arm.several times a day i find that my hand (albeit a small hand) accidentally hits the cruise control lever instead of the turn signal - especially when signalling left.this activates the cruise control at a time when you are usually getting ready to slow down for a turn.i understand that braking will turn off the cruise automatically, but it is still an incovenience and could potentially be dangerous.i contacted mercedes benz and they said that the cars are all put through many, many tests and this problem didn't surface.a solution would be too shorten the length of the cruise handle or angle it more toward the dash.possibly this would allow fewer mistakes.

The contact owns a 2003 mercedes-benz e320. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the sun roof glass detached from the vehicle. An unknown dealer was contacted and the contact was quoted a cost to replace the glass portion of the sun roof. The sun roof glass was replaced by an independent mechanic. The vehicle was repaired however, the sun roof was no longer operable. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.
