The contact owns a 1995 mercedes benz e320. While turning the key in the ignition, the air bag suddenly deployed. The contact filed a police report and called the dealership but the dealer stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The contact called the manufacturer and filed a complaint. The current and failure mileages were approximately 307,000.
While driving approximately 50 mph both the driver and passenger air bags deployed without warning.there was no collision. *nlm
Wiring harness deteriorated causing electrical short-circuit.
The engine wiring harness and ea/cc/isc(part m16/1,electronic accelerator/cruise control/idle speed control) wiringinsulation has badly deteriorated on my 1995 e320 cabriolet due to heat fatigue from poor manufacturing. This car has 92000 miles.the decay has reached the point of leaving bare exposed wire within the harness. These wiresmake contact causing the engine to stall, surge and set misc. Engine codes.it is just a matter of time until...who knows.this is a known problem to owners of these vehicles as evidenced by conversation threads on several well regarded forums.the general understanding is that mercedes was attempting to create eco-friendly wire insulation that would degrade in the landfill. It was a great idea, but has failed miserably.in my opinion someone is going to be seriously injured if this problem is not resolved with a recall. Now. This is not by any stretch of the imagination a part that is prone to failure. My feeling is that by waiting it out mercedes is hoping these cars will just go away.if you would like i can provide digital images of the harness clearly showing the decay.quite frankly it is outrageous. I also do have a bad harness that i kept.i hesitate to send it as i may be forced to try and recondition it somehow.the cost of a new harness is ridiculous not to mention i would end up with a harness that will do the same thing unless they have changed there ways for this part!here are the forums i mentioned above. Http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforum http://www.benzworld.org/forumshttp://forums.mbworld.org/forum.i can not believe that a company known for a high quality long lasting product would duck out of their responsibility in this issue.
The car began to idle rough months before, it completely stopped. I thought this was just a mass airflow sensor, but after getting that fixed i didn't know what it was. A few months later, the car stopped in the middle of the road. It could have ended in a crash but thankfully i was on a road with fairly light traffic. Upon inspection, the wiring harness on my '95 e320 completely was wearing away, specifically around the ignition coils. I'm ashamed of mercedes for not recalling this problem, as it (i have found out after reading) is an infamous problem with mb from 1993-96. I hope that they sort this out so no one gets in a crash, or worse.
Car ran great one day and the next day the car started skipping i sent the car to a local shop thinking it just needed a tune up but was i wrong the motor wire harness had melted the shop replaced the wire harness .car still has problems light on the dash flicker on and off car still doesn't run right i've spent over $1000 dollars and stillhave a car that i can't drive.
1995 mercedes benz e320 engine wiring harness and throttle actuator wiring . The wire insulation used on the engine wiring harness and the throttle actuator in my car has badly degraded! this causes all kinds of shorts within the electronics of the vehicle and problems with the electric throttle system in this car. The problems with the throttle actuator caused my car to go in and out of limp mode(reduced power) while i was driving. This caused my car to accelerate very quickly and nearly caused an accident!.this problem needs to be a manufacturers recall before somebody's throttle gets stuck and they get hurt or before their car burns.
The contact owns a 1995 mercedes benz e320. The contact stated that she had just left a repair shop where a bulb was replaced when she was driving at approximately 30 mph and smelled burning wires. She took her foot off the accelerator pedal and the vehicle suddenly hesitated. She turned around to go back to the repair shop but noticed that the vehicle had caught fire. She called the fire department and the fire was put out. She was not sure if a fire report was filed. The contact then drove back to the repair shop where the vehicle was repaired. The vehicle caught fire again after leaving the repair shop. The contact called the fire department again and the fire was extinguished. Once again, she was not sure if a fire report was filed. The vehicle was returned to the same repair shop where the contact was informed that the failure was caused by an electrical problem and a brake failure. The contact did not feel safe driving the vehicle. The failure mileage was 143,728. The current mileage was approximately 144,000.
On this 1995 mercedes e320, would not pass emissions, took todealer, was told the engine compartment wiring harness needed to be replaced, at a cost of $1500. The wiring harness was crumbling everywhere. I checked online and it is a very common problem with all e20. I checked no recall for thisproblem. This is totally a manufacturing problem, the coating to the wiring has disintegrated and it is unsafe to drive these cars. I have spent over $2,000 to try to get this car to pass emissions, it fails so bad i cant even get a waiver.
Purchased in late spring 2014. Fire in right door electrical wiring mid june.stall at red light in mid july.stall on highway, stop and go traffic in mid september.and stall at a red light sept. 27, 2014.bought it, it had 107,000miles.
The wires in the wiring harness connecting to the coils for the fuel injection system are disintegrating.currently this is causing the car to loose power, run rough, only 2-4 cylinders are firing.my mechanic said he found on the web that this is happening a lot to mercedes cars made during the time period my car was made but mercedes never issued a recall for this huge problem.my cost to fix this problem was estimated at $3200.00 or more depending on how much of the wiring system has disintegrated and what other systems are affected.i called mercedes on howe ave in sacramento and after checking my vin number said my car has never been recalled for this problem or any other problems.
The electrical insulation on the engine wiring harness failed and cause the engine to misfire. My concern is either an electrical short could cause a fire or computer failure.
I have had to replace the wiring harness as well as main engine gaskets due to excessive oil leaks on both sides of the engine.
Wire harness burnt out because of biodegradable wire casingrotting away and wires touching causing smoke and burnt out.
The insulation on the wires inside the wiring harness from ecu to the rest of the car has become brittle and is falling off, allowing wires within the harness to short out to each other.this can destroy various sensors and perhaps the engine control computer itself.although my mechanic has seen many 1995 mercedes benz cars with this defect, mbusa claims to not have any knowledge of this defect.i am replacing the wiring harness at a cost of approx $1600.the original wiring harness is available for inspection.shorting together of the wires in the wiring harness may cause fires and the sudden loss of control of vehicle. I request that nhtsa investigate this seemingly common problem that mercedes benz claims not to have heard of.
Theengine injector wire harness is crumblink and causing a lot of problems.i understand mb knows of this problem and will not acknowledge it.therefore they will not issue a recall.bonnie lang
Failure of air conditioner, windshield wiper fluid, radio antenna, and oil leak. *la the a/c failed continuously since purchased, the front windows had broken motors the water pump blew, oil leaked into the cooling system and was replaced(water pump and head gasket was replaced), two engine mounts collapsed, driver's door rattled, engine light stayed on, and both front tires lost air and were filled every two weeks(five sets of tire).the consumer requested reimbursement. *sc
1995 mercedes benz e 320, deteriorating wiring harness in the engine compartment. I believe to be causing my check engine light to come on even after replacing the mass air sensor and 02 sensor. This problem was noticed over 10 years ago but are unaware of the complaints other owners have. Now the harness is brittle and in constant repair. I tend to think that this kind of components should last the life of the vehicle.
How many complaints on faulting wiring harness does it take to make mercedes benz except the fact they screwed up and need to replace the defective harness free of charge!!! i have both a 1994 & 1995 e320 cab., both of which are having issues with electrical wiring harness. After paying $80,000 + for a benz, i and no one else should be faced with the cost of such an obvious flaw. I was raised in a benz home but i guess you don't get what you pay for anymore. Bad! bad! '!@#$%!!
Wiring harness deterioration due to manufacturer defect.wiring harness insulation deteriorates leading toother component failures, and compromised safety, fire hazard, drivability compromised.
Engine wiring harness insulation falling off - copper wires exposed and may result in short and engine failure at highway speeds - could result in injury or death.*dtconsumer stated wiring is defective and that mercedes has been aware of the nature of the defect for many years.
Engine wiring harness failed.the wires crumbled.vehicle no longer runs.*ln
The contact owns a 1995 mercedes e-320. While having the vehicle repaired by an independent mechanic for unrelated failures, the contact was advised to replace the wiring harness because the insulation on the wires was deteriorating. The contact was also informed that the deterioration of the insulation could lead to engine fires as well as the vehicle stalling. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 156,000.the vin was not available.
Car just stalled and stopped working. Car was inspected and we found out it was an deteriorating engine harness. Wires were all fried an burned up.
1995 mercedes e320, the engine wiring harness deteriorated and i have multiple short circuits in the car. The engine stalls, turns on the wiper shield, sets the alarm on and check engine light is on. A certified mercedes mechanic in autohaus yorktown (virginia) found out the same thing...wiring harness are exposed due to deterioration (w/c shouldn't be since it is plastic..but further research said that it is biodegradable).
I dropped offmy car at auto shop due to my car starting rough, the ac and fan cut off, and check engine light came on.i was also concerned that this could be the wire harness as i had read about problem on the internet, and had discussed possible issue with various mercedes mechanics. I was told that mercedes benz had installed bio degradable wire harness that were resulting in premature deterioration.whilemy car was in the service bay at s the automotive shop my engine wire harness caught on fire!the mechanic was able to put thefire out before entire car and his shop caught on fire.i have asked him to retain harness for evidence, he said harness is in pieces due toextreme heat of this electrical fire.i am so thankful that the car caught on fire at the shop, or my entire family could have been killed.i say this as my electric locks were messed up, and sometimes i had to wait up to a minute or more to open the car doors and trunk, and also to lockmy vehicle due to some sort of short.we could have all burned to death if the car caught on fire while driving on the highway, and we could not of exited the vehicle.this is a serious safety issue, and there needs to be a recall.there are over 700 complaints, along with dozens of fire complaints, regarding engine wiring harness defect on mercedes benz built between 1991-1997with the national highway traffic safety administration. How many safety reports, engine harness fires, and possible harness fires resulting in death does it take for action in the form of a recall by mercedes benz and the nhtsa?this is not a matter "if" these wire harness with fail, but when and how.i would like to request an investigation regarding my engine wiring harness that failed and caught on fire, and resulting damage to my car.
Wiring harness and computer failures have caused vehicle to stall and fail to perform as expected.
Wiring harness issue.insulation degrades because of improper insulation material selection by mercedes benz.very expensive repair.
I have two mercedes benz w124 cars. Both cars have had the wiring harness failure and that destroyed many very expensive electronic components on the cars. 1993 300e 4 door sedan, wiring harness failure and destroy many things very expensive on the car 1995 e320 cabriolet rare collectors convertible made in 1994 and 1995 only! please send me two forms to fill out.
1995 mercedes e320 wagon. The engine wire harness has disintegrated leaving exposed wires in engine bay that could cause fire. Also causes acceleration and idle problems along with various intermittent warning lights.
Engine check light was on after a 2 hours drive. Brought the car (1995 e320) in to a mechanic. The mechanic said the cause was engine wiring harness crumbling to the touch. To replace it would cost $1400 for part and labor.
The car abruptly began to run poorly, to the extent that power steering and brakes were not present. Investigation found deteriorated insulation on the engine wiring harness which caused the problem. The engine wiring harness was replaced and normal functioning of the engine returned. Why hasn't a recall been made for this problem?
1995 mercedes benz e320 engine harness needed to be replaced.
The whole engine wiring harness that runs all over my engine is defective. The insulation around the wiring literally fell apart, as everyone else on here described as breaking into brittle pieces and disintegrating. The car shut off completely in the middle of the highway. A service advisor at a local dealership knows about it and says they won't fix it because "the government hasn't ordered them to recall it" and went on to give me a quote for nearly $2,000. Now my car is stuck in a shop with all the bare wires showing and the decayed insulation in pieces all over the floor. I don't know what to do. I did a lot of research and apparently it is a defect in every 1995 e320 manufactured in the us. A lot of people say it also affects 1993-1994, as well as other models with the same engine. I'm the original owner, bought the car new from the dealership in 1995. It only has 57,533 miles on it and has always been garage kept.
Battery failed.nlm
I own a 95 e320 mercedes benz which has 98,000 miles. Since i've purchased this vehicle i have always maintained the car properly; i change oil every 4,000 miles, i changed the transmission just last year, etc. Recently the smog pump wore out so i asked a certified mercedes benz technician to replace it. After the replacement, he informed me that he found all of the fuel injection wire harnesses totally stripped of their insulation inside the outer fabric cover. He said the wires were touching each other and it is impossible to fix. He also said that several mercedes benz dealers knew of this problem and it was common knowledge to them. After contacting them, mercedes benz seems to think this problem is not of their concern because the expiration of its warranty, so they refused to replace it. This is a defect that could injure by accident or start a fire and not a warranty problem. Mercedes-benz needs to recall these cars and replace the wire harness before someone is killed or becomes injured.
Car engine stalled during driving.car was brought to the mercedes benz dealer (millennium in nj ( who told me that the wiring harness needed replacement. I had more than 100k miles on the car so i paid $2,700 to have the problem fixed.

The contact owns a 1995 mercedes benz e320.the contact noticed that the engine warning light would sporadically illuminate on the instrument panel.upon further inspection, he noticed that the wiring harness failed.the manufacturer stated that the vin was excluded from nhtsa campaign id number 95v031000 (electrical system:wiring); therefore, they would not assume responsibility for any repairs.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 90,000 and current mileage was 100,000.
I took my 1995 e320 mercedes into a repair shop after smelling burnt oil.the repair shop advised me that i had a head gasket leak and that the harness wiring system is degraded.additionally, the timing cover leaks oil and the throttle body actuator wiring is also degraded.the after market bentley repair manual cites the head gasket and wiring harness are being a common problem.my car has 91k miles.these types of problems reflect a poor design and i postulate a built in obsolescence by the manufacturer.these problems should have been identified by mercedes for recall; instead mercedes is profiting from these problems.for instance, the wire harness for my auto can only be procured from mercedes at a cost of 1200$.
- the contact stated that the 1995 mercedes 320e, should bepart of recall 95v031000for electrical system:wiringthat he found on the nhtsa website.he stated that on 02/15/07 he began to notice the engine light was staying on, and he opened the hood of the vehicle and found that the wires in the vehicle were frayed. While driving the vehicle sloweddown without notice.hehad to pull the vehicle over and turn the power off and then restart the vehicle.the contact stated that he felt thevehicle should be on the recall due to the wiring burning out.the contactcalled the dealership, and stated that this vehiclewas not apart of the recall and he will be responsible for repairs because of the mileage onthevehicle.the current and failure mileage were both 203971.update 4/23/07
Mercedes e320 1995 wiring harness failure.car began to run rough, check engine lights would keep coming on.dealer said they couldn't fix the car without replacing the entire engine wiring harness (which seemed ludicrous at the time since no american car i'd ever owned needed such a drastic fix)other dealers took the car for repair but all came to the same conclusion about the hopelessness problem of the harness.to add insult to injury, the harness is about 1,000.00 dollars un-installed...now i understand that this problem happened to virtually all mercedes e320 of that 5 yr. Period but there was never a recall to protect all of the owners.i've never left town with the car because it always ends up on the side of the road as its' so undependable.so much for my first and last mercedes...
Problems with wiring harness ...needs replacement - i cannot afford this.why wasthis part not recalled??? i have a 95 e320 mbz.
Wiring harness in 1995 mercedes benz e320 deteriorated causing the vehicle to stop abruptly and had to be towed - this is a known problem with these cars and mercedes has no response to correct or discount the repair parts - paid 3200.00 to replace engine harness, fuel actuator, transmission wiring harness -
Vech. Started skipping one day. Light on thedash started flashing i sent the car to the shop thinking it needed a tune up boy i was wrong the engine wire harness melted the shop replaced the harness and did the tune up but the vech still doesn't run right i've spent $1010.82 and still don,t have a car i can use don't know what to do now this is a shamethe car could have started fire and i don't why it didn't the wires are all melted together ive kept it for proof if needed i think mercedes should refund my money and fix the car it is of no use to me sitting in my driveway.
Dt*:the contact stated the smog pump was inoperable.the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop where the smog pump was replaced.the technician determined the wiring harness between the fuel injector and ignition was deteriorating and could overheating.there is a nhtsa recall, # 95v031000, regarding the wiring.the vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin.updated 05/02/06.
The contact owns a 1995 mercedes benz e320. While driving at 55 mph, there was smoke under the hood of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the wiring harness failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 180,000.
1995 mercedes benz e320. Consumer states disintegrating wiring harness defect *tgwthe consumer stated the head gasket developed a leak, but in order to do the repair a new wiring harness is needed.
All the insulation of the wiresis disintegrating on my mercedes e300 1995 it is very danger's.
The wiring harness has disintegrated into nothing but strands of wire all touching themselves and causing shorts and problems all over my car. I have been quoted insane amounts of money to replace something that should never have failed to begin with in this car. Further research suggests that this is a problem that mb usa should have recalled and fixed years ago.
I havea 1995 mercedes benz e320 which was well maintained.as i was driving to work this month, the car started stalling on the highway and i was lucky i was not hit from behind by other fast moving cars.after replacing ignition parts the car still was stalling and then stopped totally.upon examination, all the engine harness wires were found to have been totally stripped of their insulation inside the outer fabric cover.they all were contacting each other and it was hopless to fix since all the wires failed at once.several merecedes benz dealers knew of this problem and it was common knowledge to them.however, merecedes benz seems to think this problem is not of their concern and contacting them results in refusal to replace the wiring harness as car is out of warranty.this is a defect that could injure by accident or start a fire and not a warranty problem.mercedes-benz needs to recall these cars and replace the engine harness before someone is unlucky and becomes injured.
Wiring harness on my 1995 e320 has deteriorated to an unsafe condition and needs replacement.i have experienced several unusual check engine indications which have turned out to be false alarms.in one case it caused a problem for me in getting my california smog certification because of a false check engine light.after consulting with several mercedes authorized mechanics i have learned that this wiring harness condition is a know problem affecting several models over several years.i visually inspected the wires and can see the insulation cracking and crumbling before my eyes. I contacted mercedes benz usa in nj and was informed that my vehicle is not subject to recall and was 12 years old with high mileage (105000 miles).as a result i am forced to replace wiring harness at my own expense to rectify an obvious manufacture defect resulting in serious safety issues.
Wiring harness.
My car stalled in an extremely inopportune time due to a failed wiring harness.the car stalled on the freeway, i appreciate being alive to write this. The engine wiring harness is disintegrating for no other reason than age.my car is 95 mercedes wagon.mercedes customer service wants to take no responsibility, they blame prior mechanics and the arizona heat.
Intermittent failure of various electronic parts. Radio, lights, warning lights, window switches, locks.
1995 mercedes e320 engine wire harness fell apart - disappeared leaving exposed wires in engine bay that could cause fire.
I own a 1995 mercedes benz e320 wagon. I have owned the car for several months and decided to change the oil. While reaching into the engine complartment, i felt an electrical shock from a wire bundle near the oil filter. I looked and saw bare wires exposed where the insulation was missing. I have since found out many other owners of same vehicle have experienced similar issues with the wiring harness. This seems to me to be a very dangerous and very common defect with certain model years. The repair is very costly. Why is there not a recall on this very common and hazardous issue? it is an obvious design flaw.
I have changed the plugs in my 1995 mercedes 3 times in the past two years.the last time by the dealership in huntsville, al.they said the plugs i has put in new a month before were bad and replaced them again.this did not fix my problem and has progressively become worse. This past week end i checked the plugs again and when i started the engine it was missing on at least two cylinders.two plugs were not even firing.after inspecting the wires going to the magnetos i discovered they were all bare wires on the harness going to the engine.the plastic cover on all the wires would just fall off the wire.i cut the rubber insert inside where the plugs are located and the wires were of the same condition and had actually turned green and brown with corrosion.since my car was down and i needed it on monday to go to work, i cut the bad wires off and soldered the new wire to the plug ends that go to the magnetos.this helped to get the car running but i also discovered the wires going to the injectors had the same problem.i have priced the new wiring harness and it would cost over a 1000.00 for just the harness.this is without the labor involved.this car only has 110,000 miles and is still in good condition.i can't believe that mercedes hasn't recalled this wiring hazard.if it were to short out it could burn up the whole car or injure my family.i plan on fixing this problem so this doesn't happen.
The wiring harness on my "95 mercedes benz e320 has disintegrated wire covering and is shorting out everything. I understand mercedes benz has known of this defect all along and the nhtsa has made them do nothing.
Engine wiring harness crumbling leaving exposed wires.as result, engine will not start.
Engine running rough replaced wiring harness all wires were split and exposed and brittle.
My 1995 e-320 wagons engine wiring harness insulation has deteriorated to a point where the car was going crazy, odd accelerator behavior, loss of power, loss of trans control, loss of traction control, all wire insulation on this harness has deteriorated to the point that it is amazing that there has not been a fire or accident b/c of the malfunctions. I cannot believe i have been driving around with my 20 month old daughter in the car with it like this. When the car stated acting up. I took it to a cert. Mechanic and he showed me that i the car could have burned up or i could have lost steering or braking capabilities or trans control. I couldn't believe it!!! i could not tell that anything was wrong until he removed the cover from around the group of wires. I have never seen anything like it, not even in my 30 year old volkswagen beetle i had. Mercedes must have known this was a issue and should recall before anybody gets seriously hurt.
Wiring harness is coming apart at the seams.causes endless check engine lights and other problems.i don't understand how a garaged car can have this problem.
The insulation that protects the wires in the engine wiring harness of 1995 mercedes e320 vehicles deteriorates and causes the wires to short.this electrical short may result in unexpected engine stalling, thus creating a hazardous condition.the engine wiring harness must be replaced.this condition exists in all 1995 e320 vehicles sold in the united states.the condition exists in other years and models by mercedes, however i do not have specific information concerning the affected years and models.
M.b. E320 carbriolet 1995 wiring harness failed and a few spark plugs were not able to fire. The car was not able to be driven. It was towed to the dealership.the car has only 32,000 miles.
Oem wiring harness in 1995 e320 becomes brittle and cracks at around 100,000 miles that causes engine to misfire.
Wiring harness in engine compartment has cracked, dry rotten, and missing insulation.this is caused by poor materials used in production.it could be a significant safety hazard and cause a fire.
I own a 1995 mercedes benz e320 station wagon that has 76,000 miles on it as of 2/6/03.during a 75,000 mile service, the dealer discovered that the engine compartment wiring harness was decomposing and needed to be replaced.shortly afterward the "check engine " trouble light began to come on repeatedly.the entire engine wiring harness had to be replaced.the dealers service technician made a comment on mypaperwork that the harness had frayed through in one area and was shorting out in a valve cover.this type of defective product constitutes a class 1 safety issue. Via the internet, i discovered that many other owners of this type car from 1994 to 1996 have experienced similar decomposing wiring harnesses.this situation should be addressed by a general recall and mercedes benz of north america should replace the defective wiring harnesses.
I have surge issues with my mercedes benz e320.i have also had several electrical issues with the car. A/c blowing cold // hot in different vents. Fuel injection surges when i hit the gas. I have taken the car to severral import and mercedes benz dealerships which all say stim from a bad wiring harness.
I own a 1995 mercedes benz e320 wagon.purchased in feb 2003 with 5300 miles on odometer.the hfm engine wiring harness had to be replaced immediately after trip to dealership for excessive fuel consumption/heavy sulfur odor.mercedes benz web chatrooms (mbworld.org, benzworld.org, mercedesshop.com) detail literally several dozen cases of defective wiring harnesses which required replacement for w124 cars with m104 engines of model years 1992 to 1995.these wiring harnesses were aparently made with wires whose insulation is prone to excessive degredation with heat and time.the loss of insulation eventually leads to short-circuiting of the wires and a host of driveability issues.replacement of my harness fixed my problem.this part is apparently universally defective from the factory, and as such i believe that a recall of the defective item is in order.
The outer coating of the engine wiring harness burnt away due to the interior copper wires shorting out or deteriorating.i addressed this problem with my local m. Benz dealer and was told it is not a malfunction that is covered by m. Benz.since this is a safety issue, both fire and stalling in traffic, i have limited my use of the car.if m. Benz wishes to retain its customer base, it should step up to the plate when safety issues are presented.
The engine / fuel injection wiring harness of my 1995 mercedes-benz e320 (135,000 miles), has cracked insulation throughout and is beginning to short out with the risk of causing dangerous engine malfunction and even fire inside my engine compartment. I have read many reports of other mercedes-benz cars of the same age range having the exact same defect. This is a known issue with mercedes that they refuse to recall.
Engine stalled multiple times in traffic.replacement of engine wiring harness solved the problem.insulation on the individual wires in the original engine wiring harness assembly has seriously decayed to the point that it is flaking leaving bare exposed copper wire within the assembly.the bare wires within the assembly conceivably made spurious electrical contact causing the engine stalls.i avidly participate in mercedes automotive technical chat rooms.this particular problem (decay of engine wiring harness insulation) is rumored to be confined to the mercedes 1993-1995 models with m104 engines.this would include models c280, 300e (3.2l and 2.8l engine), e320, s320.within these models, the problem appears widespread.it is rumored that mercedes was trying to formulate an eco-friendly insulation that would degrade in the landfill.though it was a noble effort, the wiring unfortunately decayed before its time was due, leaving a three year production of e320 models with wiring that is unsafe and prone to cause stalling.i have the old wiring from my vehicle and i can provide digital images of this wiring illustrating the problem in detail upon request.i believe the engine wiring harness of all affected mercedes vehicles should be subject to recall because it is not a part of a car that is normally expected to fail, and it has a profound effect on safety and emissions.the references below contain documented complaints of many people who have the abovementioned problem.references:http://www.mercedesshop.com/shopforumhttp://www.benzworld.org/forumshttp://forums.mbworld.org/forums
While vehicle was being serviced and inspected, the mechanic examined the engine wiring harness and determined that the wire insulation on the harness was showing signs of serious deterioration and recommended replacing it before it caused problems by shorting out.
My 1995 mercedes e320 almost cut off at idle after several trips and costly repair bills . Finally diagnosed asfaulty wiring harness.was told bymechanic that mercedes had a private recall. Dupont made some biodegradeable insulation for mercedes that just fekk apart.thiswas not fair to consumers.
My 1995 e320 with approximately 130,000 miles began to exhibit unusual performance characteristics, rough idle, occasional stalling at lights.when i took it to my local mechanic, they informed me that as they began to investigate what the problem might be, the individual wires in the engine wiring harness were crumbling under the slightest pressure, making any repairs extremely risky without having the entire harness replaced at a cost of approximately $1800.the fact that this has been well-documented for several years is troubling, especially given mercedes' reputation for cars that will run for years with proper regular maintenance.obviously mbusa is aware of the problem, since dealers stock the harness.
It has come to my attention that mercedes automobiles sold in the united states in 1994 and 1995 were equipped with "biodegradable" engine electric harnesses.the insulation on these, including my car, have deteriorated and become unsafe, causing shorting between wires.my information is that mercedes has refused to consider this a recall issue.replacing the harness costs approximately $1,400.in addition to the cost, this is a real safety issue.my request is that mercedes be contacted and convinced that it is in their best interest to replace these harnesses before it causes some expensive and dangerous fires.
My 1995 mercedes wagon e320 has only 42k miles on it but all the wires aka the engine harness are crumbling to the touch.all the wire insulation has deteriorated because of the use of bio-gradable plastic.the dealer wants me to pay $1500 for the engine harness.how can such a major part be so poorly made and unreliable.this is a major safety issue for my family.
Engine wire harness failure.
Disintegration of the engine wiring harnesscausing loss of power while driving. *la
Initial problem started in late october 2005.intermittent misfiring of cylinders, hesitant.several trips into shop resulted in "could not replicate trouble". Finally sent in with severe misfiring.replaced coil, some ignition wires, spark plugs.a few days later, same symptoms happened. After more diagnosis, determined engine wiring harness had failed. Insulation had completely disintegrated allowing wires to touch. Potential for more severe damage to vehicle computers, accident or worst, fire.local mb shop indicated it was "not a major problem", "should expect it with 10 year old car".item was in stock for $975.00 (so i assume it does happen frequently), with labor of 8 hours @$119.00.i did not feel this should happen on a 10 year old car, not to mention a former "certified pre-owned" vehicle. After researching internet, found over 36 pages worth of nhtsa manufacturers complaints, regarding similar trouble with the wiring harness. Total spent to repair = $2313.43.welcome to the world of mercedes benz.
1995 mercedes benz e320 w124engine wiring harness failure - made of bio-degradable plastic.mercedes benz usa claims to have never heard of this problem.
Disintegration of insulation onengine wiring harness.
Product:mercedes 1995 e320 sedanproblem: the engine's wiring harness has its insulation made of pvc. Pvc cannot and has not tolerated the heat and vibration developed within this vehicle's engine compartment. It, the pvc insulation, has become so brittle it is literally chippingapart at every vital sensor and/or device- including fuel delivery components! this has me extremely concerned since i'm starting to get check engine signals to the dash display now. I called mercedes' 800 number and they are acting ignorant about this issue since i'm not the original owner.
Underhood engine wiring harness insulation deteriorating rapidly on our 1995 e320 wagon due to heat fatigue. This is a universal defect with all 1993-1995 mercedes-benz e320 models. On our previous 1994 e320, this problem caused the car to lose power to one or more cylinders. Definite fire hazard.
Wiring harness on 1995 mercedes e320 fails and causes car to stop while driving down busy city streets. Wiring insulation is completely cracked and causing a shorting situation. This is a known problem since i have contacted over ten people personally that have had the same problem. There are hundreds on the net. How bad does this have to get before mercedes does something to fix it?
Wire harness completely deteriorated!! this is not right for a car 10 years old. Mb usa wont help at all.
When i had my 60,000 mile service i was told the the wiring harness was defective and needed to be replaced to the tune of about 1500.00 dollars.mercedes would not pay any part of this repair even thought the dealer indicated that it was a obvious design problem in the wiring harness of the e320 series and had been fixed in later models.my problem was that the harness wires leading to the spark plugs has hardened and the insulation has flaked off of the wires.god only knows where the harness has hardened elsewhere and what potential problems could occur when the vehicle is being driven.i think that since it has been omitted as a defect and is now causing safety and reliability problems that the manufacture should step up and repair the problems.
The wiring harness for the engine has failed.the insulation has disintegrated and the wires are arcing, shorting and corroding. This causes intermittent stalling of the engine and an unsafe condition.i understand this is a typical failure of this vehicle.it is odd, i am unfamiliar with any vehicle that requires periodic replacement of the wiring harnesses, ordinarily these last longer than the vehicle.
Mercedes benz m104 engine electrical wire harness insulation flakes off and shorts out wires. Possible engine fire could result.manufacturer has replaced some of these in a random fashion, under a good will warranty.
I own a 1995 e320 sdn, i have 87,000 miles on the vehicle and mercedes has performed all major service of the vehicle during the time i have owned the car (4yrs).i was informed that the main wire harness is falling apart and it was recommended that it be replaced to the tune of $1,200.00 plus.i have worked on cars for many years as well as restoring them and have never run across a problem such as this.m.b. Should stand behind this failure and initiate a recall.
Bad engine wiring which possibly caused engine to stall in traffic.

The contact owns a 1995 mercedes benz e320.while driving approximately 30 mph, the engine stalled and then shut off.there were no warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle was towed to a dealer and they stated that the engine wiring harness was deteriorated.the dealer remedied the issue.in december of 2008, the vehicle shut off while driving approximately 60 mph.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the wiring harness failed again.the manufacturer could not assist.the current mileage was approximately 72,000 and failure mileage was approximately 69,000.

This is not by any stretch of the imagination a part that is prone to failure.
