Takata recall- driver's side

All exterior light bulbs keep burning .-seat belt stays on even is used.air bags comes on and off.the engine makes like high idol noise like the car wants to move even its brake.

I had just stopped to put gas in the vehicle and upon completion i got back in the car to start it.when i turned the key, the car wouldn't start.i had headlights and my dashboard was partially lit up, but nothing else would work.i then called the mb road side assistance and a technician came out and determined it was not a battery or starter problem.the technician said that it was probably the eis since he had seen the same situation before.an hour later the car was towed to the dealership, and dropped off with much trouble since the steering column didn't function.several days later i got a call from my service consultant, informing me that the car needed the ignition starter switch as well as the eis unit and two new keys needed to be programmed.the total was $2500. In the meantime, i found a tsb number2008020003, dated march 1, 2008, documenting the exact problem i was having.it appears that it was a know problem even back in 2008.my car is in excellent condition and it has only 32,260 miles.why didn't this become a recall?i also feel like i was robbed on the cost of the repairs.i'll never trust this car again and i'm not buying another mercedes.

I have a c350 sport, i went to start the car and the car didn't start. The lights came on, navigation came up, but it would not start. It seemed as if the car did not recognize the key; as the displayed message was "take key from ignition". The following day i paid someone to come out and look at the car, and it started right up. Battery tested normal and i thought it was a close call. Then i left to run errands and it wouldn't start and never started again. After paying $160 for the tow to the dealership; i was told if i did not have 2 keys then they can't test it. So after ordering a second key at $375; i found out it wasn't the key! if this car has so much technology in it, why can't you test the eis with a diagnostic computer, without blowing money on a $375 dollar key? after that failure i was told it was the electronic ignition switch. I have a 15 year old toyota camry and the [xxx] thing has never had 1 issue. I buy this car and at 89,000 miles the eis goes out. Poorly made and highly disappointed. The total cost for this joke was $1,780 and i didn't even get the oil changed! i think they do this to get more money, they should recall the eis and els in all mercedes that are having similar issues and not make the customer pay. It makes me not want to be a customer anymore because of this and their lack of wanting to take responsibility for their failure.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

On tuesday, june 9, 2015, i drove my car to work and parked at approximately 7:45 am. I did not get back into the car until 4:30 pm on the same day. When i attempted to start up my vehicle, it would not start. I called a mechanic friend, and he determined that it is a faulty eis which is the same problem that other people are describing here. As it stands right now, i will never buy another mercedes benz!!!!

After receiving several dashboard warning messages and, i went into higgenbothom mercedes in jackson, ms on 10/12/12 my vehiclewas diagnosed as needing a right rear contact plate and harness is shorted out.about a week in a half ago my lights on right side (both front and back tail lights) will flash on and offperiodically when my lights are in the auto position and the engine is off.my daughter emailed me an article mentioning a posible defect so i called mercedes and was told to contact my dealership to get an estimate and then call them back and a case manager would contact me in 24 hours.i took my vehicle in 07/24/13 they diagnosed the car with needing right tailamp bulb holder plate.i contacted mercedesagain yesterday andtold them about the diagnosis and spoke to a case manager and was told that there are no recalls at this time and they are still in negotiation with nhtsa and i can have the vehicle repaired but my vehicle is no longer under warranty, but after finding my previous invoice i'm confussed as to what really need to be repaired because that is clearly 2 different diagnosis, but at both times i was told the parts had burned out.i think mercedesshould issue a recall and soon before there are injuries or fatalities since they say non has been reported as of now.

The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz c350. The contact stated that the instrument panel caught on fire. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where it was determined that the radio and the wiring needed to be replaced. The failure and current mileages were 109,000.

An error message was displayed after driving a short distance.the error indicated a failure in the left tail light and a burning smell.on investigation i found a burned area of the tail light assembly ground wire connector.i replaced the bulb holder and wiring connector.this did not fix the problem.on further investigation i found that the same issue was present on the right side tail light.i also found that most of the light bulbs on each side were very dim.this car is unsafe to drive in its current condition.the local mercedes dealer stated they were not aware of any known issue with the tail lights at the time i bought the replacement parts.

The contact owns a 2008 mercedes-benz c350. The contact attempted to start the vehicle, but the ignition failed to turn over and start. A warning indicator to remove the key appeared. In addition, the steering wheel failed and would not turn. The vehicle was towed to an independent dealer where it was diagnosed that the electrical steering lock mechanism needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but declined to file a complaint until the vehicle was diagnosed by a dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000. Updated 10/04/16*ljthe consumer stated the old parts and repair receipt are available. Updated 10/13/16.

Electronic steering lock (esl) goes out damaged without reason, happened all of a sudden to my parked car. Car simply won't attempt to start and steering his completely locked. Only option is to tow it to the shop and a very expensive repair fix. There are thousands of cases already registered on this and is a common issue with this part used in many mercedes cars.

Esl failed in unlocked position, car wont start.

Passenger side tail light is considerably dimmer than the driver side. After examining the passenger tail light, i noticed that the connector of the wire harness connected to the housing that is housing all the bulbs is partially melted and it is extremely hot when the lights are on.i also checked the driver's side and it looks like the exact same thing is happening on there, too, but so far to a little lesser extent.looks a lot like a fire hazard!

When the key was placed in the ignition, the key was not recognized.the car would not start and the steering wheel remained locked.a message on the dash advised to remove the key.this was not a battery issue.the lights, radio and car locks worked fine. The car has been towed to the dealership and i am waiting for the outcome.it is interesting that the tow company that picked up my vehicle advised me that they had towed approximately 30 mercedes in the last 2 week and that approximately 20 of them were experiencing the same complaints.prior to this occurrence, the weather had been unusually cold, down to the single digits.on the morning of the incident, the weather had warmed up.i have been reading that the trouble may be caused by the electronic ignition switch.

I went to start up my car, but when i inserted the key and turned it, the car did not start. Typically when i insert the key, there is a fast and strong sound that makes it seem like the car is locking in the key. This time, the sound was incredibly slow and weak, a sound that caused me to immediately know it was broken. Power was running through the car just fine though, but i was still stranded. I had the car towed to the dealer, and they said the electronic ignition switch (eis) and electronic steering lock (esl) had to be replaced.

Drove car to work without any problems. At the end of day, car would not start and engine would not crank or turn over. Dashboard indicator, radio, windows, interior/exterior lights worked. Got a jump from employee parking services, but car still would not start. Steering column locked and unable to shift gear to neutral. Towed car to auto repair shop and had service diagnostic performed. Error found to be related to service campaign 2008020003 issued march 2008 in which the electronic ignition switch required replacement. Per campaign, "daimler ag has determined that the eis may malfunction preventing the electric steering lock and the central lock from functioning. Dealers will replace the eis on the affected vehicles during the next workshop visit. Please note that recall and service campaigns do not expire and may also be performed on a vehicle with a vehicle status indicator. Order no. P-sc-2008020003." parts--part name:eis part no: a204 545 14 08 estimated replacement rate 100%; part name:orange workshop key (must be ordered by vin) part no: a000 766 96 06 9999 estimated replacement rate 100%. Warranty information: operation: replace eis control module (02-5644); connect/disconnect star diagnosis (02-4762); connect/disconnect battery charger (02-5058). Damage code: 46 926 31 7. Do your research--this problem has affected thousands of mb owners and has occurred to some while driving. This is a serious safety hazard, more so than the back tail light issue which was recalled. Please investigate this dangerous issue and make this a required recall covered by mercedes. Don't buy another mercedes without checking the vmi, vehicle master inquiry first. Lives matter.

After a few years of driving the vehicle the following stopped working causing difficulty driving the vehicleabs/eps inoperative cruise control inoperative

The contact owns a 2008 mercedes-benz c350. When the ignition key was inserted into the ignition switch, a clicking sound was heard and the steering wheel seized. In addition, the contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the electric steering wheel lock failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

I went to go turn on my car and it failed. No sound or anything. I called aaa they came and said the battery isgood they just don't know what's wrong. I had to get my car tow without knowing what was wrong with it. I took it to the shop and it took them about a week to realize what was wrong with it. I called mercedes benz and they had no explanation to what was wrong with it or why it happen. They finally figured it out and they said it was an electric steering lock problem and that its for security reasons and that it can happen anytime. I also had to get a programming key. This cost was very expensive to not have an explanation. I also noted that a lot of c class users had this very same issue and we are not understanding why there isn't a recall.

My right tail light had been dim for awhile.i do remember from time to time smelling a faint electrical burn smell but didn't know where is was coming from. Finally when it went out, i pulled the lamp assembly which has what looks like a circuit board where the bulb mounts. The copper "traces" were fried. I took it to the dealership and they said "sorry, it's out of warranty, but we will be happy to sell you one". I said "no thanks, it will just fail the same way". So i took it home and repaired it properly. Now worried the other one will do the same.

Http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/20130717/business/business81.htmlhaving the same problem with the electrical passenger rear lights - wire harness is burnt and not working . Spoke with mb dealership/service dept , they said i will need to handle the repair out of my own pocket . I can no longer drive my car as the rear brake lights/signal are not operational and no funds for the repair . This is a safety issue to the consumers and need to be recall immediately !!!

Enter the car and put the key in. All i can hear was little ticking sound came from the steering wheel after putting the fob key in. The batter has been checked and is ok. Shifter won't move, the steering wheel doesn't come out of its lock and the car won't start. Console and radio turns on and car locks/unlocks.there are many others with these complaints for the same year car in the same class but no recall has been issued. Mercedes benz needs to cover these parts and repair because it is such a catastrophic failure that has nothing to do with the use or abuse of the vehicle.

Rear drivers side and passenger side tail lights (brake lights, turn signals, and running lights) are no longer functioning. Upon inspection, lights are barely functioning or not functioning at all with no indication of faulty bulbs or fuses, and wiring harness connecting the tail lights to the electrical system is extremely hot.

Keep getting the "check right rear tail and brake lamp", "check right rear sidemarker lamp", and "check right rear turn signal". The blinker will work fine, then after 10 minutes of driving it blinks very fast and the warning light comes on. Sometimes none of the lights on the right rear panel will turn on, sometimes they will. Or they will work for 10 minutes and then go out along with the warning signs. I looked at the bulbs today to see if any were burned, and the harness was burned and brown! i have smelled smoke a few times within the last month as well. This issue is getting worse. This is an extreme safety hazard and must be fixed immediately. Please advise!

Vehicle failed to start/crank after only 28,000 miles. Cause was a failed esl (electronic steering lock) part of the electronic theft system that ties with the electronic ignition switch. The failure of this part disables the car and is unusable.this issue with this model, w204 - c-class 300/350, has an abnormal amount of reports via mercedes benz internet forums about this very failure. 13 pages worth on one. Given the low amount of miles on my vehicle, the failure rate seems unreasonably high. The part failure has nothing to do with the use/abuse of the vehicle.

I was driving down the road and turning into king soopers shopping mart when my car just died. I thought it was the battery and coasted into a parking spot. I then checked my stereo and interior and exterior lights to see if it was the battery. It wasn't, they all worked fine. But turning the ignition to start the car did nothing. It seemed the steering wheel was locked. After playing with the steering wheel for a few minutes it unlocked itself and i was able to drive again. I continued to the grocery store but before i got there it did the same thing again. I drifted into a parking spot again and this time it was dead for good. I had to get my car towed to a mercedes repair shop (salims silver star). My mechanic said it was the ignition switch and a known issue with mercedes. After $1700 on a car with less than 50,000 it is finally fixed. My life was in danger driving a car known to have ignition switch issues. This is criminal and i'm lucky the problem occurred while in a parking lot and not on the highway doing 65. Please recall this issue as mercedes is making a fortune off of it's customers charging $1700 for an issue they caused !!!

I had stopped to check the mailbox in the parking lot, turning the engine off. Upon return, engine wouldn't crank; windows wouldn't go down. Dashboard indicator & interior/exterior lights worked. Steering column locked; unable to shift gear from park. Towed car to dealer. I had only one key fob. They wanted to test a second one; since i didn't own one, they stated i should purchase one for $250 in case it was a fob problem. It wasn't. The eis--electronic ignition switch (they called it "steering lock" aka esl--electronic steering lock) is the cause, according to the dealership. They want $1100 for that issue, total of $1420 + tax.

My 2008 c350 failed to start without warning, i called aaa to come check the battery and they said the battery was good. I also noticed that my steering wheel would not unlovk when the key was inserted. I called aaa again and requested to have my car towed to the dealership to investigate the issue. The dealership called to tell me that my steering column and eis both failed and it would cost around $1500 to replace. I went on the mbusa forum website and found hundreds of owners that have had the same problem, i even saw a campaign number listed for the eis. If these defects are known issues and since they fail without warning and could cause the eis to fail and along with the steering column to lock while the driver is driving causing an accident or leaving a family stranded, i'm not to sure why this safety issue has not been recalled and addressed yet. Do we need people to die in vehicle accidents from these parts failing before we do the right thing and recall these defective parts? i'm very thankful that my parts failed when i wasn't driving because i might not be the one writing this complaint, it would be my daughters and wife writing and crying because a known defect was not corrected in a timely manner and it took my life and possibly others. Let's be proactive and not reactive!

My vehicle went completely out of service and was unable to start due to a faulty electronic steering lock (esl). My vehicle only has 69,000 miles on it and this seems to be an issue with plenty of other c-class mercedes benz owners who have encountered the same issue. Mercedes benz is failing to take responsibility while also my exteneded warranty that i paid $2000 for has also said they will not cover this. I highly recommend not ever buying an extended warranty from privilege protection care. They place generic terms in parts of what they cover and if the dealer or shop has a specific name for your part, although it is the product or part of the same part that needs to be replaced, they will honor the warranty. Also their customer service was rude and not very helpful at all.

Esl failure. Apparently this is a very common 1200$ issue with c-class. The key would turn but the car won't start. Had to be towed to the dealer who instantly knew it was the esl. There should be a recall on these issues. So many people are having the exact same problem!

The vehicle left me stranded and locked out.i was unable to put the vehicle in neutral preventing a proper tow.

Steering lock issue.engine does not crank and car does not start.upon inserting key, an message pops up asking to remove the key.steering wheel is locked and car stuck in park.due to the configuration of my parking garage and the fact that the steering wheel was locked, it took me several days and 4 different tow trucks to successfully tow the car 1.5 miles to my local mb dealership.the diagnosis and repair of the faulty steering lock, which the service advisor says happens all the time with my model, took an entire week.i was told mb does not offer a loaner car in this situation.all in all, it took my 2 weeks to finally get my car working again.the repair was $1,200.add in the 4 tow trucks, and 2 weeks of rental car and this was easily a $2,000 issue.mb should issue a recall given that this issue is so prevalent and clearly a fault with the steering lock part.

The rear passenger tail lamps are dimming to about half the normal strength.the bulbs are all fine, but i am getting notices on the dash that the lights need to get checked.i checked the rear light harness and it appears the electrical connector has melted so that it can't be removed from the component that actually holds the bulbs.i am concerned that this might be a fire hazard.the electrical failure also seems to be affecting the horn.there are two horns on this car.one is on the drivers side and one on the passenger side.the passenger side horn is not functioning.it appears like there is weak to no electrical power on that side of the car.this is extremely dangerous too as i can't warn other cars on the road if needed.

Front lamps and headlight keep randomly not functioning at start or when driving. Warning light that bulb is out comes on but then goes away and the lights come back on after a little of time and a restart of engine.

Warning light came on to check right side tail and brake lamps.warning sign to also check right turn signal.it appears that these come on after driving about 30s-1min.when opened up the right back light kit, the plastic harness holding the bulbs and wires is burning slightly and slightly charred.light bulbs are working as they do initially turn on, but then go off after 30s-1min.also light comes up on check rear left tail and brake lamps.but these work fine, and the left back light kit plastic harness appears normal and fine.

The contact owns a 2008 mercedes-benz c350w. While the vehicle was at a traffic light, the vehicle shut off. The vehicle was shifted into park, but was unable to restart. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the ignition switch failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 113,773.

11/28 : i drive my 08c350 to 7/11 store close to my house to pick up some for the trip the next day. The car would not start (radio, power window...are working). I call fletcher jones mercedes benz, they advise me to use the spare key, i walk home to get the spare key, same thing. The car was towed to fetcher jones for repair, the repair cost me $1064.78. One month earlier, it cost me almost $1800,00 to fix the camshaft sensors and the intake manifold sensor. All of theses 3 problems are well known for the c class w204 (from 2008 to 2011), but mercedes benz never accept the bad design or fault. Whether nhtsa can do something to force the companyaccept the faulty design to help out the car's owner ?. Thanks.

The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz c350. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, several electrical failures had occurred and on several occasions and the vehicle would not start. The contact replaced the fuel pump however, the failure continued. It was later discovered the cause of the failure was due to a faulty fuse. No further information was available. Additionally, the passenger's side headlight and windshield wipers had stopped working and the srs warning light was illuminated. The cause of the failures were not determined. The local dealer plaza mercedes benz located at 11910 olive blvd, creve coeur, mo 63141 and the manufacturer were notified of the failures. The failure mileage was 150,000.

I drove without problem to a local store, less than 4 miles away. I was in the store 5 minutes. When i came out and tried to start my car, the steering wheel was locked in place and the dash said "take key from ignition". The lights and radio worked, however the windows would not work and the car would not turn on. Also, the shift was stuck in "park" and could not be placed into neutral without an override.

Electronic steering lock- car was running fine no issues parked the car went back out to start less than an hour after parking and got nothing dash came on no radio,no windows,no release from park, and steering wheel is locked and will not unlock. Left stranded have to have a tow to closest mercedes benz dealer 45 miles away....estimated cost after 310.80 tow 1200 to 2000

On sunday, june 27, upon returning to my car i discovered that the key would not disengage the steering column lock to allow me to turn the ignition switch to the on position or steer the vehicle. In addition, the gearshift could not be dislodged from the park position. I contacted aaa. A test of battery revealed that it was fully charged.i was able to manually disengage the gear shift and place the car in neutral, however, the car was unable to be loaded on to the flatbed tow-truck, as the front wheels were locked at an angle and i was parked in parking space, between the sidewalk to my front and right side and a car to my left. I was forced to leave the vehicle and find an alternative means of getting home. Five days and numerous attempts later, aaa was finally able to retrieve my vehicle. Conversation with mechanics at mb dealership as well as mb trained private mechanic identified problem as defective electronic ignition switch (eis/ ezs) and electronic steering lock (esl/ elv). Contacted mbusa corporate office and was informed that the financial responsibility for the repair (approximately $1,600) was mine, since, despite hundreds of complaints regarding similarmechanical issue, there is not a recall

The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz c350. While driving 15 mph, the front driver side srs malfunction light became illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired and the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 70,000.

I have a 2008 mercedes benz c350. The rear passenger taillight malfunctioned causing me to be pulled over by the police. Mercedes benz has since recalled the faulty tail lights and is scheduled to release replacement parts to mb dealers next month. However, it seems the entire electrical system is defective. Sometimes the radio station changes when i adjust the cabin air temperature (air conditioner). The dashboard control panel constantly displays warning messages about failing headlights and side markers. Aside from the recalled passenger taillight which is visibly dimmer than the driver side taillight, the other lights appeared to be working fine. Yesterday the fuel gauge indicator and the coolant indicator on the dash came on- the antifreeze and fuel tanks are both full.i had a mechanic look at the lights, only to discover the plastic housing is completely singed and melted in the headlights and side markers, just like it is in the defective recalled taillight. The car is one over-priced fire trap - at this point i don't feel safe driving it. What is even more disturbing to me, is that mercedes benz is well aware of electrical problems with the c class. There are thousands of complaints about this issue online - posted to blogs and nhtsa website. Mercedes is trying to piece-meal out a remedy. Meanwhile, this is a big safety issue! when will nhtsa recall the entire mercedes c class line due to defective electrical issues?

I parked the car,few hours later,i try to put it on,no starting occurred,no external light ,the battery was dead. I bought a new battery but it did not function.i consulted with several mechanics and one them talledme thatplace where i put the key that is called the panel switch was damage and suggested me to call mercedes benz dealer because it happens that there was recalls that several cars had the same problems for carsfrom 2008 -2014.this problem affected the original battery that i had.

I have a 2008 c350 with 81,300 miles. I drove the car home from school thursday parked it in my parking garage went out this morning and it wouldn't start. The key locks and unlocks the doors the lights come on and the dash lights up. You can insert and turn the key but the car will not start. The steering wheel is locked and the drive is locked in park. I tried jumping and it did nothing i didn't think the battery was bad but went and had it checked anyways. The battery being changed. I check the fuses that are associated with the starter and they seem to be ok. I'm not sure what to do next and not excited about having it towed to the dealership. Any information would be helpful.

Stationary vehicle no start, no crank without warning while parked on a city street. Failure within the electronic steering lock. Vehicle will not recognize the drivers key. Driver and passengers left dangerously stranded where ever the vehicle is parked when the failure occurs. This failure makes it unable to shift the vehicle into neutral position for towing.

Inside dash warning saying "check rear right signal lights" and right signal flashes quicker than normal. Upon inspection, lights were working but bulb holder inside lights and connection harness was melted where the brown wire was. Unable to remove harness out because the connector was melted on. Smelled like fresh burnt plastic. Severe fire hazard!

The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz c350. While the vehicle was parked in the driveway, a family member notified the contact that there was smoke coming out of the trunk. The contact opened the trunk and noticed that the passenger side was in flames around the tail light assembly. The fire department was present, but no report was filed. The tail light assemblies were replaced approximately four years ago per an unknown recall by mercedes-benz of south orlando in orlando, florida. However, the dealer was not contacted for the recent failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.

The brake light (driver side) was malfunctioning and giving multiple indicator warnings on the dash computer. After checking to see if it was a faulty bulb... The harness connecting to the taillight housing was burnt and melted. The taillight bulb housing was brittle and was burnt as well. The dealership said they know of no such recalls and are replacing the taillight bulb housing and replacing the burnt harness. (435.00) they also said that the computer module is bad because it is telling the brake light to stay on. They are not sure which occurred first. This is another 1000.00 repair. I have researched this issue online and there are many other mercedes c-series vehicles having the same issue. Most experts think the gauge of the wiring is not acceptable to the load of current.this is a safety hazard and is not looking like an isolated incident. Thank you for your support on this matter.

The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz c350. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. About 3 moths ago my car was unable to start, mercedes benz (mb) technician came and diagnose it that there is an issue with the electronic ignition switch(eis) - that it was not recognizing my key. The tech. Wiggle around the key and was able to crank and start my car. It never happen again until last week (august 16,2014), the car won't start again. I called mb and they send me a technician at my house, his diagnosis was the eis issue again and this time he was not able to start my car. He suggested that it should be towed to the nearest dealership. This morning (aug. 18, 2014), i tried to startmy car and wiggle the key on the ignition and i was able to start the car again. Unfortunately when i turned off the ignition, i was not able to start it again. A friend of my told me that there was a recall regarding the eis of mercedes benz c 350 in 2008. The mb campaign no. Is 2008020003, march 2008. I called mercedes benz and asked them if they will cover the cost for replacing the eis. Their response was, they will not because my car vin was not one of the cars that is being recalled about this eis problem. Why is mb is not covering the cost, this is the same issue on the recall regarding the eis malfunction that was sent in march 2008.

The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz c350. The contact stated while driving approximately 80 mph, the engine stalled and an unknown warning light illuminated on the instrumental panel. The failure recurred twice. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 104,000.

My intake manifold keeps braking part#272-150-24-01. The front plastic piece that opens the baffles keeps snaping this is the second one i buy in the past 2 years each time i paid $1281.00+labor they need to make something more stronger thant this, is a waste of money to keep buying this.

Manifold intake control arm broke at around 67,000 miles causing major acceleration problems primarily in first and second gear at low rpms. It was a safety concern due to rush hour traffic. After inspecting design of intake manifold, there are many plastic parts that can break off and enter the engine causing irrepairable damage to the engine. The consequences of this happening on the freeway at high speed are unimaginable.

My radio plays but smell like something is burning when i turn it on (wires) radio stills plays but screen goes in and out was told i need new radio but was never told that radio may catch on fire .

Front lamps and headlight keep randomly not functioning at start or when driving. Warning light that bulb is out comes on but then goes away and the lights come back on after a little of time and a restart of engine.

Just saw on the internet the investigation on 2008 c350 and faulty brake lights.ever since about 2009-2010 we've been plagued with electrical problems with this car, but always we get warnings about the tail brake lights.we've had the car to the dealer multiple times, and have had several expensive repairs changing out boards.still....every time you start the vehicle you have to clear the taillight error messages.to be fair we've not had any burning or melted parts, maybe we've just gotten lucky.but there is definitely something wrong with the design/manufacture of the system.please investigate further and if warranted start a recall!!!!

After parking my c350 i noticed smoke coming from the trunk on the passenger side. I opened the trunk to discover the source of the smoke was the trunk fuse box panel. I removed the panel and found that the taillight assembly was smoking. Following the removal directions in the owner's manual, i removed the multi-pin connector and noticed that the housing around the brown conductor was completely melted and corroded. There was a distinct smell of burning plastic. I then drove home with the passenger tail light assembly disconnected for fear of further damage or an electrical fire. Luckily i was not pulled over nor did i cause an accident due to inactive brake/reverse lights.once home, i determined that the burned and corroded conductor must be the ground connection. I believe that the ground cable in the tail light harness is not of heavy enough gauge to handle the current that passes through it under normal conditions. Here is the math: each bulb is 21w. If you are at a stoplight at night with your headlights on and you're turning right, there will be 5 bulbs active (per side). This is a total of 105w. At 12v, 105w translates to about 9a. The recommended wire gauge is 16-18 at this level of current. The brown wire in the tail light harness is an 18 gauge wire i believe. This wire is right at its limit for current handling. We know that in the real-world, current can easily exceed theoretical limits, so engineers often over-spec wire to be totally sure that a circuit will not fail. In this case, the mercedes-benz engineers did not over-spec the wire...they under-spec'd the wire, and it failed!i highly recommend a recall, since this is potentially a serious safety issue. A car could easily go up in flames due to this problem. Or an accident could happen due to brake/reverse/turning lights that have burned up and failed.

Started off as a rt. Tail light message, a strange flashing rt. Turn signal ( rapid flashing).as i went to inspect the tail light bulbs, i found the light assembly plate melted at the connector to the light plate. The brown wire was so hot from the evidence that it melted the plastic all around. The brown wire is fried black. Could had started a fire.

All exterior light bulbs keep burning .-seat belt stays on even is used.air bags comes on and off.the engine makes like high idol noise like the car wants to move even its brake.

Rear light failure due to melting. This failure is seen on the right tail lamp assembly. Some of the electrical parts are melted in this assembly.

Started getting notifications on dash that a light bulb was out in the left tail light. Upon further inspection, the brown ground wire has melted plastic around it on both the male and female side of the connector and all of the bulbs have corrosion from a bad connection or arching on the connectors.

The onboard computer indicated that the r rear turn signal had failed. Visual inspection of the wiring inside the tail light assembly showed that the connector for the electrical wiring harness which delivers power to the tail lights had melted. This caused damage to the bulb, carrier, plug and socket parts. All needed to be replaced. This is a known issue on the c class mercedes for this model year.

After i took my 2008 mercedes c350 to the dealership to have them do the repairs for the recall on the tail lights/bulbs. I keep getting the "check right rear turn signal". The blinker will work fine, then after 10 minutes of driving it blinks very fast and the warning light comes on. This issue is getting worse. This is an extreme safety hazard and must be fixed immediately. Please advice!everything appeared to be working fine until i got my vehicle back from the service dept. They changed the bulbs.

The vehicle was taken to baker motor company (1513 savannah hwy, charleston, sc) where it was diagnosed that the lamps overheated and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.**updated 11/1/18

All right rear lights failed.starting to get messages of rear left lights failing, but non have actually failed yet.i took off the back panel in the trunk to change the bulbs and found the wiring has melted through the plastic housing unit, it looks like the wires and the unit have been burned.after taking the car to the dealer, he said it was starting to happen to the left side of the car too.this is costing me $500 for the entire replacement!i've read so many complaints about this same issue.i'm amazed that there hasn't been a recall issued yet.burning up wires in the trunk has to be a safety hazard!

Driver side bulb burned out.replaced bulb.after further inspection noticed the passenger side lights dimmer than right side.replaced the passenger side bulb with new one but remained dim.noticed that bulb assembly gets very hot and also noticed a dark spot that appears to be indication of burning like a short circuit.

Right taillight failure.the entire taillight is not working so i removed the cover in my trunk to look if any of the bulbs were blown.when i removed the cover it smelt like something was burning.after further examining the taillight assembly you can see what that the wires were either burnt or shorted out and the plastic connectors have a brown to black film on them.not sure if this has been a recent issue but wanted to see if this was something was being investigated as a potential recall.

Right rear brake light burned at connector causing brake light failure and possibly caused small fire.

After a few years of driving the vehicle the following stopped working causing difficulty driving the vehicleabs/eps inoperative cruise control inoperative

I really needed mb to come through for me in my situation. I'm a loyal owner of mercedes benz (two cars in the past 4 years). My most recent purchase, the c350 sport, came down with a transmission breakdown last week after 3 years and just 86k miles. I had the car towed to the euromotors, germantown md just to be told that i was going to have to pay about $10 k in repairs. I became a mb customer because of your craftsmanship reputation. I never expected a powertrain issue so early in the life of such a great car. Their service department diagnosed my car as needing a new transmission but are not willing to offer a courtesy repair on my car because my regular scheduled services had not been completed by them or since 38k miles. As the gm of euromotors germantown i'm writing to ask for your help in my unique situation. I'm sure you are also a mercedes benz owner or driver and in that case how would you feel as the owner of brand that has be portrayed as one of the finesse car companies aroundbased on craftsmanship and reliability factors to just get hit with a transmission problem in less then 4 yrs and 86k miles.i wished mb stood behind their products as advertised, i guess i made a big mistake when i left bmw to become a mercedes owner.

Passenger seatbelt is clicked on, but it kept on beeping showing that its not click on while driving. It does that very often since i got the car back in 2011. The same as the passenger airbag, the light sensor keeps on popping on and off while driving too. I dont know if this a problem i should take care of myself because of my daily driving.

Only 45,000 miles electronic steering lock failed need to tow the car.

In the c300 and c350 models, there has been an on-going issue with steering wheel locks.mercedes benz has done nothing to correct this or change the part that have been faulty, due to this problem this can leave an individual stranded with out any warning as it just happens out of no where.my vehicle is up to date on all it's maintenance, and out of no where it just wouldn't start and it wasn't the battery it was the steering wheel lock (part #2019005912).this is unacceptable as it's been a problem for many years ont eh c300 and c350 models.

I was driving andall of a sudden i heard a snap , as soon i try to pull over my steering wheel becomes very stiff, very hard to turn. Had to turn the car off and call for a tow truck. When i open the hood it smell like something burnt and i saw the belt in pieces. I spoke to my mechanic and he confirmed it was the belt and the idle pulley. Very dangerous situation and alot of c class cars are having this same issue. Hopefully mercedes benz can fix this before a tragedy happens.

The vehicle left me stranded and locked out.i was unable to put the vehicle in neutral preventing a proper tow.

2008 mercedes benz c350 - 70,677after driving the car in the morning, i went to crank the car later in the day and it would not start. Ignition would turn, but nothing happened - only a clicking sound when i removed the key. Locks, alarm, lights (interior and exterior), radio and air conditioner worked fine, but the car would not shift out of park and the brake was locked in place. Battery tested normal at 12.4 volts. I tried the second key, but the car would not start. Took it to mercedes benz dealership, and they told me that it was a steering lock / ignition switch problem and it was a common issue they see in this year and model. They wanted $1,200 to replace the steering lock. I have seen numerous complaints about the same problem in mercedes benz 2008 c class, but there has been no recall and mercedes will not address the issue.

Mercedes c350 2008 52,000 miles.car suddenly would not start. Lights worked, console screen came on, navigation screen popped up. It wasn'tbattery, not both car keys.cannot get out of park, steering wheel locked. Had to tow to nearest dealership 70 miles away. Bad steering wheel lock (icm)ignition control replacement cost $1500. Mechanic prior looked and tried ordering part. Wouldn't sell it to him because it was supposable a recalled part!? dealership said no recall or warranty, out of pocket. Then when informed repair done, i was told command control not working $500 to fix. I bought mercedes because its suppose to be reliable.very disappointed. Going back to bmw according to mb blogs it is a common issue with 2088 c class. There's a bulletin notice on this issue also called eis !!

Vehicle was stationary. Steering column locked up and vehicle would not start.

Order no.

Esl failed in unlocked position, car wont start.

Steering wheel locks without warning, shutting off control to the vehicle instrument paneland the gear shift.problem occurs without warning and can cause accidents as well as leave you stranded without away of starting your car or driving it safely.

Unable to start vehicle. Key turns but no crank. Service tech was able to release / unlock the steering wheel by violently shaking the steering wheel from left to right as if he was trying to break it. Something did release and he was then able to start the vehicle. Brought the car directly to dealership and i was quoted $1018 for the steering wheel lock. Looks like this is a well documented issue and it's an ongoing issue w/ mercedes.

The contact owns a 2008 mercedes benz c350. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed that the steering lock system and the electronic ignition system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

Steering lock failure: i can not turn wheels and start the engine. A lot of mercedes customers complaints about exactly the same problem. Vehicle has to be towed and repair only by the dealer. It should qualified for recall!!!

This is the 2nd time it has happened to me same issue with the eis steering mechanism. First time i paid over $800 to have the part replaced then second time i am being charged over $900 & that's with a discount! i complained & mercedes does not care! very frustrating when you think you purchased a car for reliability & quality but it is always breaking down. Mercedes knows the problem & is well aware of it but will not fix it because they are makinga lot of money from it!i was at the gas station readyto leave & car would not start. The lights were on & radio but no luck getting the key to turn at all.had to get a tow truck & pay more because car would not go into neutral. I was told they could not guarantee that it wouldn't happen again & they could not help with any discounts either! just not right! someone please help!!!
