I was in an auto accident and was struck 3 different times in 3 different areas of my vehicle.the emergency crew as well as highway patrol were wondering why my airbags never deployed.i never being in an accident in a vehicle with airbags did not know what to expect.upon recuperating i contacted my mercedes dealership service department and was told that similar problems with the srs switch had occurred but mercedes did not issue a recall they informed dealerships to change out the switch on an as needed basis.i contacted mercedes usa and informed them of the situation they asked for the police report, the location of the vehicle, and photographs.all of which i sent.4 weeks after the accident they called me again to ask where the car was, again i told them the location and i also informed them that the total loss department at aaa insurance was picking up the vehicle that day to stop accruing storage charges. 1 1/2 week later (post the phonecall) i received a letter from mercedes with an airbag and safety brochure explaining the way my car was hit is why they did not deploy.i have spoken with various auto adjusters, bodyshops they all agree that the airbags should have deployed.i also called various mercedes dealerships in california and they all knew of the repair as needed.why no formal recall?what about all the bad switches that they don't know about?i was fortunate i lived i was injured but i lived.shall we wait and see if the next person will?i feel that mercedes should be forced to issue a formal recall, and take responsibility for all switches.no one deserves a dear john letter with a brochure after they have made a decision to purchase a quality vehicle, and that vehicles safety system fails. My injuries would have been non-existent had my airbags deployed.not to mention the 7 weeks of work i have missed.and we wonder why mercedes has a clean recall record, if all dealers were allowed to do this could you imagine the mess.

Dt: car has had several problems from air bags to brakes to alternator. Owner doesnt think he should have to pay for these repairs, actually the main concern he has is about the warranty. Upon purchase, the vehicle air bag lights came on, then the brakes and alternator went out as well. The brakes failed due to a master cylinder failure. The alternator failed after the owner installed a new battery.

Consumer was pulling inside of a parkingspace to park andvehicle suddenly accelerated uncontrollably.consumer applied the brakes andpedal went to the floor.then, vehicle continued to accelerate with speed, jumped the curb, and crashed into a parked vehicle head on. Upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy.no injuries reported. Consumer was able to drive the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, but mechanic could not duplicate the problem.

Malfunctioning seat control modules drain battery in 2001 c320 mercedes benz. Not long after purchasing the car in january 2008 with 51,000+ miles,i paid $175 dollars for a new mbz battery, before asking dealership to disconnect seat control modules. I was not prepared to pay $1200 to replace modules.june 25, 2010, my 2001 c320 stopped during a trip to phoenix, az from california, due to fuel pump going out. My 79 year-old mother and i waited in 100+ degree weather for a tow, which took 3 hours to get to phoenix mbz dealership.oakland service rep never suggested replacing, although the car was serviced during the suggested mileage for replacement. The phoenix dealership initially replaced original fuel filter, and never thought to check if original fuel pump needed replacing. On june 28, 2010, my car stopped again on the return trip to ca, and we were towed back to az, where fuel pump was replaced. The incident cost me almost $2,000.00 more than i planned to spend, while attending my graduation ceremonies in arizona. Considering the expense to maintain a mercedes, as well as the cost of the car, you would think the service staff would be more proactive with customer service. I suggest mercedes create a better warning system for equipment failures like the seat control modules and fuel pump. I also suggest mercedes consider lowering their service prices, so the average "joanna" can pay the maintenance to keep a dependable car.the valve cover gaskets were leaking oil and transmission electrical connector was leaking. Updated ivoq 09/10/10

I purchased this car as a graduation present for my daughter. I know it's and older model, and has high mileage, so i expected some issues. However, after reading several post across the internet it seems as if the seat module issue is a problem. Everytime she lets the car sit for more than a day, it won't start. She has to jump start the car, and this seems to be an issue across the board that benz should have recalled by now. This is a major issue and something needs to be done. This morning the card once again would not start. I have contacted the dealer and benz direct, but they will not recall the car for this issue, they just want you to pay to have it repaired. With so many people having the same problem why has this car not been recalled???

The "multi function display" (mfd) screen in the dash fades with interior heat (in summer) and eventually fails over time.the mfd displays all critical vehicle operation information (such as coolant temperature warnings, electronic stability control activation, etc.), and all notification of vehicle fault codes that occur.without the information visible, the owner can't know if there is a safety problem.there are no mechanical gauges serving as back-up.further, the vehicle odometer is only visible in the mfd.without an operating mfd, the owner cannot view, or certify the correct odometer mileage, required by federal law when selling the vehicle to a dealer or subsequent owner.this is a well-known fault across several mercedes models.dealers offer to replace the mfd, at considerable owner expense.however, because of the odometer issue, i believe that mercedes should fix the display at zero cost to the consumer.

The trunk lid would occasionally open up on its own, especially at highway speeds, blocking rear view.this was a major safety hazard.the problem occurred several times over a period of one-two months.

My battery keeps draining. When i look at the display screen it only states that the front right light is out. When i had two mechanics look at it and they stated that my battery is being drained due to my seat function not working properly. After not using my battery for hours it dies. I keep having to jump it. My battery has been replaced less than a month ago so i know the battery is not an issue. My display screen gives me a few different malfunctions and than one moment it displays no malfunctions. After charging my car and than leaving it a strange churping sound goes off in my car causing my battery to die again. There are times when my car has died in at night in strange areas and i have to alone and unsafely jump my car and sit until my jumper provides my battery with enough juice to start my car. When i am driving my functions stop working because my battery isn't strong enough to power the everything. This has happened on a number of occasions.

Dt: consumer went to start the vehicle and discovered thatelectrical components such as navigation, radio/cd, telephone, voice command, gas gauges, and power windows were not working.sincethenthe brake lights and turn signals werereplaced twice, and will be replaced the third time in less than a year. Took vehicle to a dealer and contacted mercedes ,who said they could replace navigation and the radio/cd which s\were connected by same computer for $3,000. Dealer did not know why this happened, but there was an electricalshort.havenot been replaced or repaired.

Really dad experience problems with drivers and passenger side seat control modules draining battery when key offmy carstarted on fire under the hood .!!two times.

At 55 mph the front left brake engages without applying the brake pedal and after a few seconds releases, the bas and esc faults are then visible on the dash. The brake light switch was replaced by mercedes two times, but this condition shows up after a few days of driving , codes show that the yaw rate sensor or connection is at fault. Even when the car is in park with the engine running on a flat level surface the fault warning dash lights esc and bas will come on with no movement in the car. This is a very dangerous situation for a collision from a vehicle following me and running into me . Many others posted the same problem. Why is there no recall ? i have 8 grandchildren that you should care about.

I also have a 2001 c320 since new here in south africa and i have the same problem with the electric front seats draining the battery.if it stands for more than 2 days the battery is flat.it's a problem because it also influences the other electrical accessories as the battery has to be charged and in some cases jump started.while this can be done successfully if you are stuck out of home base sometimes you cannot manage the recovery team that cause all types of voltage spikes when trying to get the car on line again.it seems ludicrous that a seat motor that does not work hard at all can cause this problem.really not the excellence in engineering i expect from this marque.here is the vin no [xxx]as i cannot enter it a few steps later as it does not accept it. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My 2001 mercedes-benz c320's battery was constantly going bad and having to be jumped after not starting it or driving it for approx. 24 hours.finally, after a certified mercedes mechanic investigated the problem, he informed me that the problem originated from the driver's seat module, which was draining my battery.he informed me that if i unplugged it for the time being, my battery would no longer drain.sure enough, after unplugging the seat module, i no longer had issues with my battery draining.the seat module controls seat adjustments as well as steering wheel adjustments, so this is very inconvenient, and unsafe, because there are times, when i have to plug the module in adjust my seat or steering wheel, and it does not work, and i'm stuck with the seats or steering wheel in an uncomfortable position.i have also had problems with brake (stop) lights, turn signal lights, etc., in which the vehicle indicator states that particular lights are malfunctioning, and then after awhile it goes away, and then days later, the lights are inoperable again. I have spent quite a bit of money replacing bulbs.i originally purchased this vehicle in 2004 when it was still under warranty.

The contact owns a 2001 mercedes benz c320.while driving approximately 20 mph on normal road conditions, the engine stalled without warning.the engine warning indicator remained illuminated on the instrument panel until the engine was turned off.the vehicle restarted after several attempts and was taken to the authorized dealer for diagnostic testing.the technician stated that the failure was related to the engine control module (ecm).the vehicle was repaired according to the service warranty.in addition, when the outside temperatures exceeded 100 degrees, the vehicle would shutter.when the vehicle has been parked for a couple of days, the electrical system rapidly drains the battery.on three separate occasions, the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for identical failures without resolutions.the vehicle has not been repaired.the failure mileage was 1,079 and current mileage was 85,000. Updated 2/5/09 the consumer stated the air mass sensor was repalced. Updated 02/10/09.

Dt*:the contact stated the left light bulb warning light illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the dealership and the wiring harness, rear exterior light bulb, and adapter cable for the tail lamps were replaced.the park light error light illuminated and the dealership replaced the rear light bulbs.another, unknown, light illuminated on the dash and the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop who determined the sam module needed to be replaced.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who determined the same solution. Updated 10/04/06.

The power seat control units drain the battery, as they turn on and off during extended periods of rest.

Power control seat & steering column module/regulator went out & before it did it use to drain the battery where car wouldn't start if sat for less than 24hrs, so had to unplug but now the entire system doesn't work plugged in. I can barely reach the pedals to drive properly, this is a safety hazard & needs to be a recall. It also needs to be a way to manually adjust. Thank you

On the first occasion (december 16, 2010), my mercedes c320 electrical system shut down the engine while i was driving.the car engine shut off as i was driving 57 mph on the freeway during morning rush hour.there were several cars and tractor trailers behind me when the car shut off as i was driving.the incident was terrifying, as no warning lights (nothing) came on in the car.luckily, other drivers saw me in distress and i was able to maneuver over three lanes of traffic to get to the side strip.the car was towed to phoenix motors (mercedes benz dealership) whereas they indicated an electrical component had gone bad.however, i later learned this diagnosis was incorrect, because seven months later the electrical system shut down again as i was driving.another incident took place where i had no control over the car mobility while driving 60mph on the freeway, because the engine went dead.the electrical system shutting down the engine without warning to the driver can cause a deadly crash.presently (december 21, 2011), my car is in the hands of phoenix motors again, however, they have yet to determine why the electrical component is shutting down the engine while driving.i am requesting nhtsa to investigate this matter, because this type of defect has the potential to destroy innocent lives while driving.an electrical component shutting down an engine while driving is serious and deadly.please, please look into this matter.i was lucky in both incidents, because an angel was watching over me.i could have easy been injured or killed, not to mention others that could have been killed.in both incidents a tow truck was called to tow the vehicle.

I just bought the car and two days later the smart key won't turn, can't unlock the steering wheel and the shiffter the good think the car was parked on my drive way call tow truck take to the shop and they say i need a new key and ignition control module but only dealer can do that, $1,400.00 dollars job

I am the owner of a 2001 c320 mercedes benz. I purchased this vehicle backin july of 2003. I have always had complaintsabout my front seats draining my battery i was told again just recently that it was a problem with that model and year. I think mercedes should recall this problem and correct it immediately.

We own a 2001 mercedes c320 and have had several problems with the electrical systems all related to the power seat assemblies draining the battery over night. We have had them replaced by the dealer, first time was under warranty, and now- just about a year or so later, same problem. If we unplug the power seats, the batter does not drain. We know we are not the only ones with this problem, see www.benzworld.org/forums/mb-safety-testimonials/1279095-c320-battery-problem-plz-help.html . I agree that it is ridiculous to spend the type of money on this car and get ripped off by the dealers for "diagnostics" on a very well known problem and also getting shafted for replacement parts, only to have them fail the same exact way. This is a widespread problem for mercedes, and to not acknowledge it and just keep raping customers without fixing the original problem is wrong. I can only hope this complaint will keep just one person from purchasing a mercedes, of any type, in the future. Mercedes needs to step up and deal with this. Great for the image to see mb owners getting their overpriced cars jump started by hondas and volkswagens...

At 55,178 miles (only 5,000 over warranty) i had to have my faulty electronic ignition system replaced.during this repair at an authorized dealership, the technicians blew out the rear sam (computer controlling directional signals, hazard lights, etc), while the car was in their shop.they attempted to make me believe that the rear sam failure was an underlying failure that they were not able to detect with the first inspection.however, this rear sam failure was never disclosed to me until after they had installed the electronic ignition system, approximately one week later.in other words, the initial inspection was 100% about the faulty electronic ignition system.ironically, the ignition did turn on during the initial inspection and i was there to observe the service manager scroll through the display, find my mileage, etc.there was no indication of rear sam failure on 9/19/06, ie, visit workshop on display. No matter what the circumstances, having electronic issues of such a magnitude (both ignition and rear sam) on a car that had only 55,000 miles on it, indicates that mercedes benz has tremendous electronics problems.furthermore, while i was willing to pay for the electronic ignition problem that i came to the dealership to fix, i expected the dealership to take care of the rear sam failure they caused.they would not offer to take care of this problem.i have since learned that they could have availed themselves of m-b's good will replacement parts programfor the part and they would have been out very little time and money.the dealership subsequently said they did offer to take care of the problem, which is a lie!i have been in contact with both the california department of consumer affairs and with my credit card customer service department to seek redress for the dealerships handling of this matter.the ca department of consumer affairs recommended that i file a complaint with the nhts.

The contact owns a 2001 mercedes benz c320. The contact stated that she attempted to start the vehicle but it would not start. The dealer sent someone to charge the battery. The contact stated that the failure recurred three additional times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the driver's seat was draining the battery. The dealer disconnected the fuse for the seat but the contact was unable to adjust the seat when needed. The manufacturer was notified but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 64,000. The vin was unavailable.

Mercedes benz c320 2001 model.power seat module shorts and drains battery.the constant draw off the system could at some point, cause a fire, while driving or over night in garage.2 twice it was failed within a 1 yr time frame.dealer charge $1000.00 to fix the problem only to have it happen again.dealer would not supply old part for inspection.

Intermittent horn- 2001 mercedes benz c320i turn to you for any help and/or advice you can provide.while on an interstate driving my horn goes off. It was humorous at first as i thought it was someone else. The horn sounded constantly for about 15 minutes then went off for the next hour whenever it felt like it. No error codes were displayed on the console.no horn problem the next day.gave the wife the car she drives to work - no problem. Get off from work, into the car, starts it up....the horn goes off again. Not humorous anymore, the wife did not find it funny.took the car to the dealer, valley motors, inc, cockeysville, maryland the next morning waited 5 hours and was told they could not duplicate the problem. But charged me $90 in labor.started the car to run an errand....horn goes off! drive directly to the dealer. The dealer test drives the car the next day and while on the road, the horn goes off. This time 2 cars back is a policeman and he pulls over the technician.so far they have not determined the cause of the horn problem, but continue to charge me labor to find it. I'm at $450.00 and was told by the dealer that they attempted to replace the sam unit and the problem still exists. They have traced the horn connection and still no resolution.should i keep letting the cost mount up? who can i escalate this to at mercedes-benz or even daimler chrysler. What should i do?any and all advice on how i should proceed is greatly appreciated.thank you

This has been ongoing for 3 years.i have a mercedes benz c320.i have had intermittent air conditioner and heater.my electronic keys have been intermitant.there is a squeaking sound from the suspension.i get malfunction messages when there is no malfunction.my rear-lights have had to be replaced regularly.*la

The electronic key presents a safety hazard since it ques in all setting for the driver.while driving the mirrors would change position.the key can stop "talking" to the car and not allow the car to be started.sometimes when starting the panel and other inside lights failed to come on, but the car was driveable.the oil level check system would say the oil level is to high, and add miles to the next service point.the big confidence breaker is will this key stop talking entirely to the car while driving? this would surley result in a non-steerable event.i could not get mercedes to answer such inquiry, or reassure me that it could not happen.i turned the car back into the dealer and now have learned it was sold.i want to warn the new owner of these problems, since they were not fixed for me, and i have little confidence they can be.

While driving on a level and straight road the car automatically applied brakes and came to a complete halt. Weather conditions where; clear visibility, about 85 deg f, dry asphalt surface. Error codes resulting from this fault indicates a faulty esp yaw rate sensor. The independent mechanic code reader showed that the yaw rate sensor output was reading angle rates from as low as 34 to as high as 300+ gradients/sec, while the car was not moving and parked at the shop. As the person responsible for any actions while driving this car, i that the car should not overrule the driver's inputs and create an unsafe condition. The vehicle should just indicate to the driver the existence of an unsafe condition and do not take any action until the driver acknowledges this warning/caution.

Low oil light comes on when vehicle is driven for 1 hour or more continuously. Problem started at 41,458 miles and still exist at 64,892.vehicle has been taken to dealership (dick dyer & associates, columbia, sc) five (5) times for this recurring problem.during each visit, dealer either added up to a quart of oil or did a complete oil change.dealer cannot correct or find the cause.

Accelerator pedal went full throttle at stop light, tested and had a faulty electronic accelerator pedal dealer and mercedes benz refused any warranty repair and were not interested in seeing the faulty part. I have kept the faulty part pending further investigation. I am upset that toyota must fix a dangerous situation but mercedes gets away with it,as i know a friend with a 2000 s430 that had the exact same fault.

Head gasket was replaced on this car on may 2007 at 46,697 miles, now at 51,800 miles oil is leaking again. Same thing for a suspension noise.

While driving 65-70 mph check engine light came on and vehicle stalled. Vehicle was towed to the dealer, who informedconsumer that they could not duplicate or locate the problem.

The contact owns a 2001 mercedes c320. While driving 68 mph without warning the vehicle stalled, lost power and was unable to control the steering wheel. He was able to drove onto the emergency lane using a lot of force. The vehicle was then towed to a mercedes dealer where they diagnosis indicated that there was a faulty crank position sensor and the computer shut down the vehicle. The faulty sensor was replaced at the owners expense. The failure mileage was 31,151 and the current mileage was 35,488. Updated 3/30/10 the first time the vehicle stalled, the mass air flow sensor was replaced. Updated 06/25/10.

The vehicle stalled without warning.

My 2001 mercedes c320 has died completely when driving at highway speeds. Will restart and run fine after the problem.

I had a few electrical problems but have now been resolved through many repair shop visits.i have 109,000 miles on the car. Now. The issue that kept occurring is the passenger door handle that keeps coming off. I already replaced it once and the part itself is $350. I can buy the whole door for $300 at the scrap yard. Not sure what to do. I feel like its the glue and maybe the hot humid weather is affecting it? i did have to replace a new battery and thought something was wrong with the car because it drained so quickly. I think the battery was just bad and its been fine ever since.

The turn signal on the front right has been out since about february.the dealer parts guy said quote: "confirmed grounding problem (a design flaw); ground wire is too low a gauge for max current through headlight assy. And overload causes short (meltdown - literally)".i think that when a mbz dealers own people state this fact, and when you can go online and find the same quotes from individuals, over again, then the manufacturer needs to assume responsibility.it is a sad day when a huge auto manufacturer is allowed to get away with an obvious design flaw.my wife & kids are in this car every day ! step up and be responsible mbz !!

While operating on the highway and in traffic, the vehicle stalls suddenly and without warning because of a 'crank position sensor'.the sensor is a magnet which, when it determines the crankshaft is out of alignment, abruptly shuts down the fuel system.subsequent models of this manufacturers product do not allow the sensor to do this, but rather indicate a possible problem with a warning light.this sensor system is extremely hazardous and could result in significant injury.

Have a 2001 mercedes c320, the battery keeps draining and the dealer said it is a seat module for $1100.i went on the mercedes benz blog and everyone with this year model has had the same problem, i think a recall should be done it is obviously a defective part by mercedes.i have already had to change the passenger side seat module.

I have a 2001 mercedes c320 which i can't really drive anymore because the battery drains every day, the problem is the power seat controller, it drains the battery really quickly.

Really dad experience problems with drivers and passenger side seat control modules draining battery when key offmy carstarted on fire under the hood .!!two times.

Thank you

My battery keeps draining. When i look at the display screen it only states that the front right light is out.

The contact owns a 2001 mercedes benz c320. The contact stated that the battery malfunctioned. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the driver and passenger seat control modules needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

After replacing my battery i learned on line that the mercedes have a problem with their seats where theydrain the battery and cannot hold a charge.after having my car jump started 5 times i took it to my mechanic who confirmed it was being drained by the seats....makes no sense.however, apparentlyit is happening to many people with this year and make of car.mercedes is not standing behind theirdefective product.this is not ok....

I am the owner of a 2001 c320 mercedes benz. I purchased this vehicle backin july of 2003. I have always had complaintsabout my front seats draining my battery i was told again just recently that it was a problem with that model and year. I think mercedes should recall this problem and correct it immediately.

If the front seats are plugged in the battery drains.once i unplug no more problem, but as long as they are plugged in and i don't drive the car for 2 or 3 days, the battery is completely drained.

The power seat control units drain the battery, as they turn on and off during extended periods of rest.

I have 2001 mercedes-benz c320 sedan.i have learned that this particular model has a factory defective electronic passenger seat module which cause the battery to be drained very quickly.i called the company to request to fix this problem.they denied to do so.i believe this model is lemon. As soon as passenger seat module is disconnected the battery is holding charge, i can start car right away.

We have a 2001, mercedes c320 that we have to unplug the power seats on every time we get out of the car.the power seat module is faulty.obviously we're not the only ones...http://www.benzworld.org/forums/mb-safety-testimonials/1279095-c320-battery-problem-plz-help.html.it is ridiculous to pay the amount of money you pay for a mercedes and for them to have so many cars doing the same exact thing without having to fix the problem.this has been going on for over 2 years now.

Head rest is not supporting neck properly. There is a 2 inch gap in betweenhead rest and seat. Dealer was notified. . consumer stated the factory rep looked at the headrests and was suprised of their position, the brake disc are slightly grooved at 3300m, also the electronic mirrors do not work at times, the mirrors will change positions on their own.

Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle failed to start.upon inspection the dealership determined the power adjust on the seat controls failed to turn off, which caused the battery to completely discharge.the seat controls need to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2001 mercedes benz c320. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the brakes failed to respond without warning. Also, the contact stated that the steering wheel seized. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 185,277.

The contact owns a 2001 mercedes benz c320. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph the front passenger side brakes engaged and the vehicle began to lose control. Excessive rotor wear on 2001 mercedes c320 with only 26,000 miles.

I just bought the car and two days later the smart key won't turn, can't unlock the steering wheel and the shiffter the good think the car was parked on my drive way call tow truck take to the shop and they say i need a new key and ignition control module but only dealer can do that, $1,400.00 dollars job

Thank you

The vehicle experienced steering problems.*dt

2001 mercedes benz c320. Consumer writes in regards to defective headliner. *ld

The trunk lid would occasionally open up on its own, especially at highway speeds, blocking rear view.this was a major safety hazard.the problem occurred several times over a period of one-two months.

When the driver depressed the accelerator pedal in heavy traffic the vehicle sloweddown, consumer has brought the vehicle in for service on several occasions for problems with acceleration and noise without remedy.nlm

I bought a 2001 mercedes benz c320 vehicle used on 9/19. After taking it home, i noticed while driving the vehicle accelerates on its own without my foot on the petal. I double checked to make sure the cruise control function was off and the vehicle continued to accelerate on its own at a high speed, up to 55mph.when i drive, i am constantly hitting the brakes to keep from colliding with other vehicles. When i put the car in park, the rpms reach 30,000 and the engine sounds like it's accelerating. This is a safety issue. There are many error codes on this car, so how wasthe car dealership able to sell this car legally? i need to return this vehicle asap. Please help.

On the upper surface of the dashboard, there is a large heart-shaped vent for the ventilating system that reflects off the windshield, causing restricted visibility and distraction for the driver.
