Seat belt is sticking and it is difficult to unbuckle. Alternator burned out, learned that tajata had a recall on 2005 mazdas and need to know if my 2005 tribute series s is effected. After hitting a deer at about 45-55 mph, my air bags did not deploy despite smelling the gunpowder used to deploy them. The airbag light on the dash is on as if the airbag had deployed

Takata recallmy seat belts do not tighten and my airbag light was fixed but is now on again i've been told that my airbag and seatbelt will probably not work properly and my locks are also not working properly. I paid $300 the first time to fix the airbag light and driver side seat belt. It was only fixed for about 3 months and now the light is on again and i have to keep children out of the passenger side back seat because that seat belt does not tension properly

Mazda tboned. Passenger side airbags front and side did not go off.passenger received major injury to body. The lack of the airbag deploying had her head hitting dash board plus flying glass. Vehicle was crossing street. Low motion when other vehicle ran into passenger side. Drivers airbag worked not the 2 on passenger side.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute.the contact stated that the another vehicle crashed into the front passenger's side of the vehicle, pushing the contact's vehicle across two lanes and into a pole. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained injuries to the ribs, knee, breast and face. The vehicle was destroyed and a police report was not filed. The contact also stated that the vehicle was previously involved in a crash and the air bags also failed to deploy at that time. The vehicle was not inspected to determine the cause of the air bag failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 52,000.

Took my vehicle to a dealership to have the airbag icon/light that is always on. When i turn on the ignition, the icon blinks. Even if i am driving the icon stays lit.dealer have not been able to correct this issue.

Cruise, blake pedal hard to press when cruise is on.air bag lite on 99 percent of the time

My rear seatbelts do not work.vehicle turnsoffwhile on highway. The vehicle airbag buttle says no airbags in car.the car jumps when reaching 50 mph

May 9,2006 involved in front end collision when a vehicle pulled out in front of me with approx. 3 feet notice, hit vehicle in drivers side door with the complete front end of my vehicle at 35 mph. Vehicle damaged to the point of breaking air conditioning compressor. I was wearing my seat belt and jerked forward on impact and air bag states that it deployed but it never deployed. I am now currently seeing physicians and specialist for neurosurgery. My vehicle is still in the repair shop at this time, then it will have to be sent back to the mazda dealer to find out why the airbag did not deploy and be fixed. At this time it has not been fixed or even determined why it did not deploy. If it did not deploy at 35 mph crash i am concerned to even drive it again. This was my first ever accident in 25 years of driving and i do not want another, but i am very concerned about a defect since i am being told by all the experts that it should have.

I had a 2005 mazda tribute i, bought in march 2005.in december 2005 i ran off the road and the vehicle rolled twice.i was not seriously injured, but the air bags failed to deploy in the accident.further, the car radio came loose from its mountings, and whipped around on its antenna cable.i'm not certain, but i think the loose radio hit me in the side of the head causing bruises and contusions.

I have a karr car alarm, dealer installed prior to purchase. Recently, while the car lockedin the drive way, the alarm went off unexpectedly. Then while driving the door ajar alarm went off constantly. Went to karr and had a new alarm system put in. Still happens. Went to mazda and they found the rear passenger door lock assembly was defective. Had extended warranty and they fixed it. 11 days later the alarm went off again in the drive way while sitting there locked. Called mazda again and am scheduled to bring the car in to check it out again. Karr mechanic stated that he had the same problems with ford escape and mazda tribute customers all due to the door lock assemblies in the fact that the electrical mechanism seems to be reverse logic than other cars. This is becoming both annoying and frustrating. In the mean time i cannot lock the car in the drive way or when i am at stores - no security or theft-control.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The failure first occurred when the vehicle was purchased in 2012. While driving at low speeds, the motherboard blew out. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed that there was an electrical issue with the computer and three cylinders were not working. The contact inquired with the manufacturer and no information was provided. The failure occurred three times. The failure mileage was unknown.

Flashers came on when car was started and will not turn off.

2005 mazda tribute.consumer writes in regards to vehicle engine issues and requests compensation for repairs. The consumer stated when started the vehicle, it sounded like a truck and the check engine light started flashing. A diagnosis revealed the coils and spark plugs needed to be replaced.

2005 mazda tribute with 60,000 miles, hazard flashers started goingoff in the middle of the night...would not turn off...stuck thin cardboardunder switch to hold switch in..dealer says no problems like this before.stopped on its on..then started again..will have to take to dealer to get this problem fixed, warranty is out...expensive job..never touched the switch before this happened...aggravated!

Takata recall this 2005 mazda tribute.while driving down the road the lightstart to flash and there is a car that shows up on my dashi have hadthis looked at. And everyone said it was wiring problemsthis suv has almost. Had me hit and in a car wreck. Because. It will shut down and no pull a hill. Or lose it power.

The vehicle was initially in the shop to repair shock tower on the right rear which was completed rusted out, that expense cost $1200, within the week, while driving 40mph, the check engine light came on, then the abs light, then the car began to slow to a stop. The car felt like it was in neutral, there was no control of the car. I placed the car into park, i was along the side of the highway. The car was towed back to the shop and needed repair of fuel injection, engine computer, spark plugs and ignition coils. The total cost of repairs came to $1500 dollars. It was upsetting to deal with two major incidents in 1 week, especially expensive ones. The way the car came to a slow stop on a highway could have caused an accident as well.

Takata recallmy seat belts do not tighten and my airbag light was fixed but is now on again i've been told that my airbag and seatbelt will probably not work properly and my locks are also not working properly. 2005 mazda tribute.consumer writes in regards to several mechanical problems with vehicle.the consumer stated the computer caused the spark plugs to mis-fire. The dealer informed the consumer, the vehicle was unsafe to drive. However, on the last three occasions they sent her home without resolving the problem.

Since i have owned this car the 'door ajar' light is mostly on--all the time.it is a minor annoyance; however, i am reading tons of other mazda tribute owners with the same issue.no one i've had it to--including the dealer--could figure out what is wrong.it clearly is a defect.sometimes i am concerned it will pose a safety issue as, for instance, it will be off (rare, but sometimes it turns off).then i roll down a window, or sometimes do nothing, and then the light suddenly comes on.it dings and the interior lights come on in the car as though someone opened a door.i ask that you investigate this issue and hold mazda responsible for fixing this issue.thank you!

Began hearing loud banging noise in the rear of the vehicle while driving on city streets.upon inspection, the passenger side rear shock mount in the wheel well was completely broken free and the shock banging around. It had pinched the brake lights and they stopped working as well.upon research on the internet this has been a common issue with ford escapes and mazda tributes of this vintage but only on the right rear.so much so companies like dorman make a replacement part for it to replace the wheel well which requires welding.this is a safety issue the manufacturer should address.never had this happened to any other vehicle.

We took to the mazda dealer (5900 north oak trafficway, kansas city, mo 64118) in 2009 because the car did not start. They changed the starter motor and still it did not work then they replaced the battery and it did not work again them they said it is the alternator this all happened just within a week or two and had to spend lot of money. Then again we had to replace the battery four times with in 2009 to 2014. Right now we have the same problem and an auto dealer is saying it is the alternator. I strongly think there should be some kind of recall to this as i have not seen a car like this that has so many electrical problem and this is not safe. Thank you for checking on this and hope this problem will be solved and people will not have any problems in the future.

Sensor alarm for doors is going off..can't figure out why ti solved this.

In 2007 vehicle check engine light started flashing and came on.before i could reach a dealer or shop the car completely stopped working in a construction zone.dealer said there was a short in the electrical system and fried the main computer.computer was replaced and electrical connections checked.dealer found several electrical connections that were loose.i believe this is a direct result of the other electrical issues that caused a recall on the tribute / escape.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While the vehicle was stationary, the contact's wife noticed that the vehicle caught on fire. Upon inspection, the contact observed the front driver's seat in flames. The fire department was notified of the fire; however, the contact extinguished the flames. The vehicle was not towed. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. There were no injuries reported. The failure mileage was approximately 187,000.

My 2005 mazda tribute i-4, with 19,000 miles on it, experienced an alternator failure.the battery light came on and i was advised by the dealer to bring the car in because it might die.my vehicle is now being held for about a week, because they have told me that alternators for this vehicle are back-ordered.i wonder if they are back ordered because other failures have occurred at very low mileage on the vehicles.

While drivingvehicle vibrated uncontrollably, then stalled.driver restarted vehicle after ten minutes. Then, took vehicle to the dealer, andmechanic determined that the ignition coil springs needed to be replaced.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that the vehicle would lose power and stall on several occasions. The contactturned off and reset the computer by restarting the vehicle each time the failure recurred. Also, the contact mentioned that it was extremely difficult to remove the key from the ignition. The vehicle was schedule to be taken into the dealer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

The 2005 mazda tribute s (3.0l v6), also known as the 2005 ford escape (same parts, assembly line, pcm, etc) has a known issue that can be tracked through many, many tsbs. Mazda/ford used the incorrect and faulty spark plugs in their 2005 tributes and escapes. These plugs generate too much rf noise and their faulty coil-on-plug designed ignition system does not provide anywhere near enough suppression for the excessive rf noise. These issues combines cause the pcm to literally fry out and burn and crack the ignition coils at the same time. Due to mazda and ford's total lack of safety concern or attention to this issue, thousands upon thousands of tributes and escapes have engine misfiring issues (rough idles, engine knocks, eventual coil failure) that go undiagnosed and causes unburned fuel to push through the top catalytic converters which in turn damages them as well. Again, this is a known issue, seen in many tsbs that mazda and ford will not address. Results aside from extreme damage to the most core components of the vehicle include engine misfiring and car shutting down completely mid-drive (we're talking 65mph on the highway). This is a very dangerous problem that they will not address and is seen in most if not all 2005 tributes and escapes, typically around the 90k mile mark. Nhtsa needs to address this as this is a very serious safety matter. My 2005 mazda tribute has burned through 6 ignition coils and spark plugs, died while i was driving several times, misfires frequently and at random and finally the issue has fried my pcm, which in turn took out all 6 ignition coils at the same time. Thankfully, i was parked when this issue occurred this time.

Many complaints of the rear frame of vehicle completely rusting out. The mechanics said it is unsafe to drive and costs thousands to fix. Most people will not notice this until it's too late.

The sub frame and axles completely rusted through and the lower control arms and everything supported came loose.it all needs to be replaced at a cost of thousands of dollars.this is the same issue i have been reading about on the same vehicle years 2001 - 2004 as well as many ford escapes.they have been recalled so why would newer units with the same problem not have been recalled.for a newer car to have the same problem would make this issue be even worse then the manufacturer is reporting.every dealer and every junk yard tells me the same thing, this is not isolated to the 2001 - 2004 model years.i have no option but to fix the manufacturers defect and hope that they admit more vehicles need to be recalled. They should fix the problem and pay for the parts and labor to repair their problem which they knowingly passed onto the consumer.i will do whatever it takes to inform as many people as possible to never buy a mazda or ford vehicle until they prove that they actually care about the consumer, recall these vehicles and pay for their defective product.they are putting people in a dangerous situation and they know it!another problem has been the engine.i have had problems with faulty ignition coils and sensors and the rusting of the rear wheel wells, which were rusted thru and had to be welded back together since they separated from the back of the car and i had a loud rattle and shake.thank goodness this was recognized by the repair shop as they found it before it caused an accident.what is a owner to do?

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. After the accelerator pedal was depressed, the throttle became stuck at any speed. The contact had to pull over to the side of the road and adjust the speed cable in order to operate the vehicle. The dealer was not contacted. The contact referenced nhtsa campaign number: 12v357000 (engine and engine cooling, vehicle speed control). The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that due to the engine size, the vehicle would not be included in the recall. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 100,621.

Running rough, stalling at lights, replaced ignition coils, new ignition coils failed, further diagnosis, pcm causing failure.

The 2005 mazda tribute initially started to be sporadically sluggish/hesitation when stepping on the gas. It seemed like there was a delay from when i pressed on the gas pedal to when the vehicle actually accelerated. On 6/4/15, a couple days after first experiencing the sluggishness/hesitant acceleration, the vehicle stalled/lost power while driving 55 miles per hour on a busy road. Fortunately, i was able to coast over to the side of the road. Within a few minutes i was able to restart the vehicle and continue on my way. The vehicle continued to be sluggish at acceleration and would randomly stall while driving and/or idling. At this point with the vehicle's mechanical issues, the check engine light was not on- even though there was something major wrong with the vehicle. Over the next couple weeks i had the vehicle in the shop three times. The first time in the shop (6/6/15) the check engine light was still not on- -so they were not able to diagnose the problem. They shop suggested replacing the fuel filter and do a fuel system clean-- which i did. The vehicle continued to be sluggish/hesitant when accelerating & randomly stalled while driving and/or idling. About a week later the check engine light finally came on. I took the vehicle to the shop & they indicated the code was telling them that cylinder 2 was misfiring. No other codes were read. All the spark plugs were replaced, coils were checked (in good condition). The check engine light did not come back on; however, the vehicle continued to run sluggish and stall while driving (multiple times when i was going 55-65 mph). On 6/24/15 the car stalled again but this time it would not restart. I had the vehicle towed to the shop & they indicated the computer was dead and needed to be replaced. I contacted mazda and they denied there were issues with the mazda tribute computers and said it was just my vehicle.

While driving between 1500 and 2500 rpms, the car suddenly drops in rpms and either stalls altogether or starts making a jerking motion and thudding noise. Cannot get out of the gear unless you jam on the accelerator. Extremely dangerous and near undrivable on the highway. Had has happened twice before, ruining the engine coils the first time and the catalytic converters the second time. It seems the pcm is faulty and ruining all of the associated parts. Have read up on the topic and many other owners havethe same issue with the stalling and jolting of the issue, all associated with the pcm. This very much seems like an issue that should be recalled, as the repairs are significantly costly and affect many vehicles.

When approaching a 4-way intersection during daylight hours, the light turned yellow then red.i tried to stop by pressing my brake pedal.my vehicle did not slow down, but continued to accelerate up hill.i pressed as hard as possible but my vehicle went through the intersection and i ran into the side of another vehicle. I was originally going about 30mph and when i hit the other vehicle, i was going about 25mph.my vehicle stopped after hitting the other vehicle but continued to rev higher.i was injured when my arms bent the steering wheel forward, the seat belt bruised me and my right foot (talus bone) was broken by the pressure on the brake pedal.i required surgery. I was out of work for 3 weeks and wore a cast for 7 weeks.the policeman who reported to the accident site discovered the gas pedal was half way down to the floor and stuck.the other driver and a witness said they heard the vehicle revving after it stopped after impact.the vehicle cut off after about 30 seconds on its own and would not restart.there are similar reports of this happening on the website but no recalls have been issued.i had owned the vehicle for 5 years and 9 months at the time of the accident.the vehicle was totaled.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that while parked, the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The fire department reported to the scene and concluded that the fire began on the passenger side of the engine. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed.the approximate failure mileage was 95,000.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 mph, the engine stalled without warning. The contact was able to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was neither diagnosed nor repaired.the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 138,000.

Vehicle with odometer ~102500 miles lost all power climbing a bridge at highway speed causing following traffic to stop abruptly. Engine re-started but runs rough due to misfire, accelerates poorly. Diagnosed by mazda dealer as pcm failure. Estimated replacement cost = $2600 usd which makes this failure a total loss of this vehicle. This is a widely known and experienced issue among 2001 - 2006 mazda tributes for this ford manufactured engine. Side note, class action suit filed against ford motor company for same issues with 5.1l engines.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 mph, the accelerator pedal would not respond. The contact continued to apply pressure to the pedal but had no success. The manufacturer was made of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign number: 12v357000 (engine and engine cooling, vehicle speed control). The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.

My tribute is a v-6 3.0l and the vehicle was manufactured 11-04 per driver's door sticker. Problem-- after leaving my house and driving down my rural road, i had noticed the vehicle speed stayed the same (approx 40 mph) even after letting up on the gas pedal.the cruise control was off.so i had did a quick tap on the gas pedal to see if the constant speed would stop and allow the vehicle to slow down.the vehicle did respond and slowed down.this happened to me on three different occasions and all on the same road and in the same area.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that she never received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 12v357000 (engine and engine cooling, vehicle speed control). While in the market for a new vehicle, a dealer provided the contact with the nhtsa website. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact stated that she moved to another state since purchasing the vehicle. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. Upon starting the vehicle, smoke was noticed. The contact turned off the engine, but the passenger advised her to restart the engine to see from where the smoke was originating. When the vehicle was restarted, flames were seen coming from the ignition coil under the hood, passenger lift the hood and ignition went into flames. The passenger was able to extinguish the flames. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that the ecm, spark plugs, and six coils needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer (kings colonial ford, 3565 community rd, brunswick, ga 31520), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 161,000.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the engine seized and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 90,000.

Interstate driving, engine lost power. 92,000 miles. All maintenance records available. Many repairs for low mileage. Codes revealed 4 coil packs out. Replaced all 6. Car still does not have compression. Dead. Shame on you mazda!!!!

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving at 45 mph, an abnormal noise emitted from the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.

Big loud noise, car started to shake, speed and nearly lost control.

While driving the suv had a couple of misfires and then shut off completely with no warning. Thankfully was able to coast to the side of the road. If this had happened on a major highway there could have been an accident and worse, fatality. Now the computer, coils, and plugs need to be replaced.

When accelerating greater than 30 miles per hour the car is so loud you can't hear the radio and its too loud for my son the dealer says there is nothing wrong. I just purchased this car (used) on monday jan 21,08 i have been calling the madza dealership they keep telling me to wait someone will get back to me. I took the car back in for service to have the sound re-evaluated the serviceman at mazda dealership said there was nothing he could do because it was raining and that it may be causing the loud noise.what should i do? it is a 2005 mazda tribute.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated while driving at approximate speeds of 70 mph, the vehicle began abnormal jerking and the engine would idle very low, almost to a stop. The dealer advised restarting the engine to correct the failure. The failure persisted and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for further diagnostic testing. The dealer replaced the computer, coil springs and performed a tune-up. The vehicle resumed normal operation after repairs. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 84,000. Updated 11/03/10. *lj

Flashers came on when car was started and will not turn off.

Accelerator peddle became stuck and would not release while entering parkway. Breaks failed. Had to stop car using emergency break. Mazda replaced the accelerator cable and throttle.

The gas pedal sticks while driving, it loosens up after a few moments, (putting the entire force of my body against pedal will not free it up) . This has happened many times over the past couple of years, but has been happening much more over the last couple of weeks. Also last winter when it was cold at nightas i pulled from my parking spot at work the engine seemed to rev suddenly as i pulled away. This would only happen occasionally and i figured it was due to the cold weather but i am not so sure now. I have searched the internet and found this has happened to others. The dealer charges them several hundred dollars to fix the problem. I see that there was a recall for the 2002-2004 mazda tribute for the accelerator cable recall 2704l. Is it possible there should be a recall for this model year.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic for routine maintenance and the mechanic stated that the fuel tank vent pipe completely fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact hadsignificant concern of a potential fire due to the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Filling the gas tank became a problem as weather became colder. It fills slowly and backs up. If not anticipating it fuel will spray back at you an run back out filler tube in fact it is hard not to have some fuel spill during the fill. I saw tsb on the issue and contacted dealer where i purchased this car used ,a ford dealer, but they were unable to get information on the problem and said that i would probably have to pay to fix the problem anyway and would have to go to a mazda dealership to get it done. I contacted mazda usa by phone and they said it was not covered by warranty or recall. They refused to pay for any repair. With persistence they said if i took it to the nearest mazda dealership and paid for a diagnostic and results were consistent with the tsb that they might help with the repair under a"goodwill" program. I requested tsb fix information so i could consider what was needed to fix so i could decide my most economical route to get it fixed but they refused. They said that information would only be given to mazda mechanics due to "liability" concerns. This problem continues and it now occurs at every fuel fill, the colder it is the worse it is but it occurs even when it is above freezing. I have a coworker with a 2006 tribute with the same problem. No serious event to us yet but my son borrowed the car once and i was unable to warn him ahead and he was doused in gas. Any static spark or other ignition source and there will be a tragedy. Remember this is occurring at a gas pump at a gas station with fuel tank door and cap open with gas pump running. It is at it worse at the most likely time for a static electric spark ( dry and cold). Mazda showed no interest or concern to deal with this. They know of the defect and first tsb on it was issued in 2005. Help!

Running rough, stalling at lights, replaced ignition coils, new ignition coils failed, further diagnosis, pcm causing failure.

Car stops accelerating due to gas pedal being stuck.

While accelerating, the accelerator gets stuck and the car suddenly slows down to a crawl.driver has to pull over and pump accelerator in order to get it unstuck.checked with dealer initially and called mazda today january 8, 2014 to ask if there have been a recall.was told, no.in the past, had to take car to mechanic and left it to be test driven in order for mechanic to replicate problem.mechanic found the problem and cleaned accelerator.problem continuous sporadically.

Throttle sticks on the get-go when accelerating from stop giving a whiplash type start.nothing done to correct it as of yet.2005 mazda tribute 4 cyl.

Fuel tank design problem on a 2005 mazda tribute.*mrthe vehicle has been taken to the dealer for a fuel tank filler problem they cannot rectify and claim that it is a mazda design error.when filling the tank gas spews out shutting of the pump.the consumer was then required to manually overriding the pumpby continually clicking the pump on and off rapidly.

With just over 12000 miles, the throttle became very sticky in cold weather.the butterflies in the throttle body hold the accelerator pedal closed, requiring excessive force to push (and excessive acceleration).in cold weather, throttle would stick closed whenever the pedal was released, no matter how long the vehicle was driven.the dealership (hall mazda in virginia beach) replaced the throttle body, and commented that the throttle body should be cleaned every 12000 miles for varnish buildup.there is no tsb that i could find on this problem.i believe the problem is the pcv system, allowing oil to collect on the throttle body, and causing it to bind during cold weather.

When fueling i constantly have to over ride the pump due to the fact that pump turns off prematurely.even though i don't believe this to be a safety hazard i do find it an inconvenience.i have also have read that this is a pretty common problem.

I have a brand new 2005 mazda tribute that every time you attempt to fill the gas tank it spews out raw fuel out and pollute's the atmosphere and creates a possible fire hazard. The dealer claim's this is a design problem and can not be corrected. What can epa do to put a halt to this type of pollution. I have written the state of nevada for help as to corectly fill this gas tank, the gas pump safties must be bypassed, thus creating a possible fire hazard. The first time i had an issue with the gas pedal, i was backing out of a driveway and the pedal got stuck all the way down. My car wouldn't move. Since then, i've had 5 instances where i'm driving my car and let up on the gas pedal and it gets stuck. I have to stomp on the pedal multiple times for it to start working again. I'm always in traffic and have to turn on my hazard lights and pull off to the side if there is a shoulder available. This has also happened when merging onto the interstate when traffic is moving over 50 mph. This is very dangerous and i'm upset to find that many other owners have had this issue and we have to pay to get this fixed. It should be a recall.

Throttle freeze up. Could not accelerate out of path of on coming vehicle which crashed into my left front fender. This condition has been on going for years now and when i approached the dealer about it i was told to wait for recall letter which never came. Contacted mazda and was told that this vehicle was not one of the recalled vehicles. It has been problem after problem with this vehicle. And i need help.

I have found that my gas pedal won't depress in cold weather. The first time this happened was a few weeks after i bought the car in 2009. The said it's cold and the car just needs to warm up. This problem has continued to happen year after year, but never for any length of time. However this morning, as i was driving to work the pedal would no longer depress as i was going down the road. Eventually i coasted to a red light and i frantically stepped on the pedal to no avail. I was able to turn on my hazard lights and somehow coast into a parking lot. I continued to let the car sit and warm up for another 10-12 minutes, when i was finally able to rev the engine. Believing that the problem was solved i backed out of my parking sort and again tried to drive forward, however the pedal still would not depress.after sitting another 10 minutes, i was finally able to press the pedal hard enough for it to depress. I ended up needing one of my co-workers to follow me to work in case it happened again; which is did after 3-4 more times on my 10 minute drive to work.please look into this issue.

I have repeatedly had problems with the gas pedal sticking.not in the "on" position but rather when i try to accelerate after stopping or deceleration it will stick and i can not push it down.it happens more when it is cold out.i am reading pages and pages on the internet of this happening with mazda tributes around my cars age.it seems potentially very dangerous.also, since folks like myself have gotten it 'repaired' and it has recurred this does not seem like a worn part but rather a defect.please help!

While driving and coming to a stop at a light the car stalled while using the air conditioner. This happened several times, so i stopped using the air until i could bring it in for service. The next day while driving at 45 mph i noticed the rpm's increasing with no increase in speed. I also noticed the overdrive light blinking. I pulled over and the car was in neutral no matter where the shift selector was. I turned the car off and after 5 min. Restarted the car and was able to shift into drive. After about 100 yds , again the trans shifted back to neutral. Again i pulled over shut off the car and waited 5 min. I continued this procedureuntil i got home about 5 miles.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that while traveling 65 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated as the vehicle stalled. The contact managed to merge to the side of the road where the vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer confirmed that the pcm failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the issue. The failure and current mileages were 87,900. The vin was not available.

I have had problems with my gas pedal every since i got the car. The problem is that it will not accelerate its like it has something behind the gas pedal preventing it to go down. It has got worse over the years especially when it is cold outside it seems to stick worse. You can try to push it harder or even pull up on it and it doesn't budge. I had to pullover today because i couldn't get the pedal to work so i couldn't give it gas. I got it work and was driving down the road and it froze up again. I finally made it to my destination and when i left nothing was wrong with it. Got in it tonight after work and it is very cold outside and it was stuck again. Called mazda earlier and said they was no recall on it. Got online afterwards and found numerous people with the same problem. I got it checked out before with mazda while under warranty and they told me nothing was wrong with.

While driving at 45 mph engine speed started to rise. As if transmission had shifted into neutral. I pulled over to the side of the road, and when moving the shift lever to drive nothing happened that is it did not shift into drive. The shift lever moved freely from park to drive but would not shift into drive . It just stayed as it was in neutral. Car at dealer and they tell me $4200.00 to replace the transmission.

I am the current owner of this vehicle i. Bought it through north shore bank off lease... I take good care of the car and have it maintained regularly .recently the rear passenger area has been making a loud banging noise,i thought it may be a broken shock or something to that affect.i took it into goodyear in racine wi.come to find the whole wheel well is rotted out on the passenger side.. The mechanic said he could not fix it and take it to racine auto body also in racine, wi.they also saidthey have never seen anything like that happen to a car or suv ever before.he said it has to be due to a bad factory process or some flaw that had been when the car was manufactured. They want $1600.00 to fix the area and i don't feel i should have to fix the flaw from the mazda manufacturer.i feel it isn't safe to drive on the highway without more damage being added.i really would appreciate some sort of help or replacement of the factory flaw. The car is in fairly decent shape and at this point i can not afford a new car..i don't know if there had been any other similar issues on any of your other vehicles.

Mazda tribute 2005 transmission failed at 29,380 miles . Replaced with remanufactured transmission and was not give a warranty on the (they said new) transmission--was told the remaining warranty on my car was all i got. Other transmission shops nearby said they gave 12 to 24 month warranty and offered extended warranties on their remanufactured transmissions.i was informed by the transmission shops that mazda and ford escape were known for their unreliability and frequency of failure of their transmissions.the "other " shops got these cars at 80,000 miles usually, which means to me that mazda dealers are more than likely getting a substantial number of transmission failures that are under warranty and then making the customer liable for the next transmission failure at a substantial cost between 2200 to 2800 dollars.

The transmission in my 2005 mazda tribute was replaced on 9/05 at 24,000 miles under warranty now at 84,000 miles its bad again saying it needed replacing at 60,000miles on the new one and want to charge me $3600.00 a transmission should not go bad already with 60,000 miles of age. It had been flushlike it should , but the dealer stated that the one they put in had a warranty for 12mth/12000 miles. So i out of look , i did some research and the 626 engine on the mazda is the same engine in the tribute a4ld and it too gave recurring problems.

While driving 20 mph transmission fluid was leaking.consumer pulled over, and had the vehicle towed to dealership, who did not resolve the problem.

I have a 2005 mazda tribute with 145000 miles. During the summer, i folded the rear seats down in the stowed position to utilize the cargo space to go on vacation. When i unstowed the seats to utilize them for passenger use, i discovered the right rear seat cushion had the fabric burned off the face of the seat. Also, the floor mat was severely burned and melted into the carpet. This area is just above the exhaust system of the vehicle. This is a very serious issue and the interior of the car almost caught on fire. I contacted mzda and they told me it was out of warranty and there is nothing they could do. They put my vehicle and an analyzer and found nothing wrong with my vehicle. I never had a check engine light come on. I explained that this was not a warranty issue, but a safety issue! they just blew me off and sent me on my way. I have photo's of the damage. I cannot even pull the back floor mat up due to it being melted into the carpet. It doesn't matter how old the car is, the interior is not suppose to catch fire through normal use for any reason. There is definitely a major safety issue with this design.updated 11/16/2010

The undercarriage of this vehicle is rusted as per the complaints, only year not recalled and should have been.but unrelated to that.driving daughters 2005 mazda tribute and brakes went all the way to the floor not allowing me to stop the car.i had to pull the emergency brake to stop the car. It was a torn brake hose that was spewing out fluid that immediately drained and left the vehicle undrivable. Brakes hydraulic problem. No matter drive or park, the leaking is continuing.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but failed to respond without warning. In addition, the contact discovered that the accelerator pedal was stuck to the floorboard and the emergency brake had to be engaged to avoid a crash. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic but the failure was unable to be determined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 174,848.

I purchased the car new in 2004. I have been complaining about the brakes losing pressure since i purchased my car but the dealership always told me they were fine. I have always had to push my brakes to the floor to stop the vehicle. Sometimes when at a red light i'd sit and pump air into the brakes so they would stop properly. Yesterday i was driving in stop and go traffic and a lady stopped ahead of me but my car would not stop. I had adequate distance to stop. I had the brake pedal to the floor and it felt as if the tires were stuttering/hopping in an attempt to stop. I pressed so hard that my whole leg was in a cramp. I hit the car ahead of me damaging the bumper. I did not slide, the tires are semi-new and in great condition. Also, my rotors failed a few years ago. Had to have them replaced all round as well as another part of the braking system. I have also had the grinding noise and the air hissing from the brakes. This has been an issue for a long time and i've asked mazda about recalls and their haven't been any. With the number of complaints on the internet i don't feel it is right for the consumers to have to continue paying financially, through insurance or personal injury for the manufacturer's default.

The contact sustained whiplash. The other driver did not sustain injuries. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 153,000.

First let me please advise that there was no incident regarding my vehicle.i am writing to try to get information about a potential recurring problem that was first reported and recalled with the 2002 and the 2003 / recall 63202.i have a 2005 mazda tribute and was just advised by the service department of irwin mazda in freehold new jersey that my car will need to have the brake booster and the master cylinder replaced.i know my car is a 2005 and the recall pertained to the 2002 and 2003 models, but i feel that this is an issue that is recurring and is not being addressed.i contacted mazda corporate and spoke to the supervisor mr. Johhny garcia andi voiced my concerns, and i was dismissed by him stating that there was nothing he can or will do to escalate my concerns to a higher level of management at mazda corporate.the number i called was 949-727-1990.i am not sure how this works but i am truly concerned with this issue.there might be more consumers like me out there that had this issue with their car and was dismissed also.not only is this a safety concern, but the cost to replace this could be in the thousands.can you please reach out to mazda regarding my concerns, since [xxx] refused to help me escalate my call.thank you so much for your help.[xxx]please advise on how you think i should proceed, or if you can look into this potential recurring problem with the brake booster and master cylinder. Had just returned from driving on freeway, pulled into gas station, needed to move for another vehicle when brakes failed and pedal went down to floor.rolled car into snow bank to avoid accident. Noticed fluid leaking around front tires. Had to fill brake fluid reservoir and drove car across street to mechanic. Both front brake hoses were split near base of connector and very stiff. Both were replaced along with 1 caliper for $300. Mechanic stated he never saw both hoses go at once and was surprised they split at only 100,000 miles. Per the internet, many ford escapes and mazdas have been experiencing this problem. We could have been killed if we had still been driving on the freeway.i'm sure ford and mazda are both aware of this on going problem and have chosen not to remedy it.have owned many different cars throughout the years and have never had to replace a brake hose. I hope they don't wait for someone to die before they decide to do anything about it. On top of the fact i did not have $300 to spare for a repair which i feel was avoidable on their behalf.

This mazda tribute has extensive and unrepairable rust to the body, understructure and suspension parts than makes it unsafe to drive. Structural integrity is compromised in the event of a collision, vehicle is prone to veer out of control due to missing suspension pieces and gas and exhaust fumes leak into the cabin due to rusted out and missing inner body panels.

Takata recallmazda tribute 2005 complete body underneath was rusted luckily i found a welder who installed a new bottom also had a brake job= $880.64 at 66,216 miles - had to replace 6 spark pugs 6 ignition coils and 1 intake plenum gasket set spent 1,204.25 also 800.00for a new bottom to be welded to the bottom of the car as the bottom was rusted at a cost of 800.00 concerned that the corrosion issue should not have occurred because the car is under 100,000 miles is this car a lemon

I purchased my 2005 mazda tribute brand new from martin mazda, located in newark, de.my vehicle has never been in an accident and i just drive it back and forth to work.in january i started hearing a loud noise in the rear of my vehicle which started to get louder and louder.it sounded like something in the rear of the vehicle was bouncing/rattling around. On february 10, 2015 i took my car to nucar mazda in new castle who has serviced my vehicle since 2005.[xxx] , mazda service advisor informed me that the right rear subframe and wheelwell had rusted away and that it was unsafe for me to drive.the brake line had started to rust, as well.the shock attached t the vehicle had rusted away, as well. He explained that the rear could collapse.i contacted mazda headquarters and they said that due to the way that delaware salts their roads is why this rust occurred only on the right side.a family member suggested that i get an estimate from a body shop.northeast body shop was able to repair all of the parts that had rusted out at a cost of $2,710.00.[xxx] , owner stated that this rusting out was due to the undercoating was not covering the parts that rusted out. He provided me with the entire piece that had to be replaced and you can clearly see what the problem is.i feel that mazda should take some responsibility for this defect on my vehicle. I believed in mazda and i am very upset that i was driving an unsafe vehicle for this period of time.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

My accelerator gets stuck frequently.this is dangerous and there is no way this could be my fault.it has gotten stuck on several occasions since november of 2008.on aseparate note:my brake booster failed (twice) in two years.

Rotors are badly worn after only 48,000 miles.technician says it is due to cheaper rotorsinstalled by original factory not capable of withstanding winter conditions.

My 2005 mazda tribute abs and 4 wheel drive light came on one day when i got on the freeway and has not gone away since i don't know what cause this.

We purchased a new 2005 mazda tribute.at 90k miles, the brake booster started leaking air causing extended braking distance requiring more driver force on the brake pedal to stop.the brake booster was replaced at dealer with oem part, and now at 150k miles, it has begun leaking air again.we have experienced complete brake failure and are having to replace the brake booster again.this time we have opted to go with a high performance brake booster.

2005 mazda tribute - 21,500k miles.for the third time since taking ownership in august 2005, the abs and 4wd lights go off whenever there is heavy rains or snow.first dealer service diagnosed as real wheel turning out of sync with other wheels; second diagnosis was the need to add grease somewhere; third time happened after dealership hours and next morning lights flashed again at startup but turned off.

I have a 2005 tribute purchased in aug of 05 with 26500 miles. My abs light came on while backing down my driveway and the pedal went to the floor and rebounded with force. Then i had no brakes. Stopped the car with the emergency brake. Mazda needs to get this fixed.

After the 2005 mazda tribute is highway driven for 4 to 6 hours the brakes fail to stop the car within normal distances. It feels like there are no power brakes; much like stopping 1960's cars with drum brakes.these failures, do not occur in around town driving; and cannot be duplicated by the mazda dealership during around town test drives. As it only occurs after the vehicle has been driven for hours, and particularly in hot climates like arizona,it appears the problem is heat related.when trying to stop exiting a freeway, and standing on the brakes, and still blowing through a stop, it scares the hell out of driver, passengers and other traffic and has the potential of being lethal to persons and property.

The rotors on my 2005 mazda tribute after two years and 31,000 miles were replaced free of charge.i was told that the 2005 tribute rotors were made of asbestos and that is why the rotors wore so quickly because they were made of a very soft material.i was told that the rotors have been improved with a more durable material. Mazda told me that they could not put the new improved rotors on my 2005 because i had to stay with 2005 parts.i don't understand this, why wasn't the 2005 tributes recalled because of this defect in the rotors?

Power steering went out suddenly 2 days ago. Had the car towed to the dealer. Dealer claims the power steering pump and switch were after market parts. That is impossible as the car has only been serviced by our local mazda dealer where i bought the car. They are covering it under the warranty, but can't seem to figure out when the power steering pump and switch were "replaced".

This vehicle is owned by me but used by my son in colorado.on a recent trip near moab, ut on the way to a camp site, my son heard a strange noise.upon investigation he noted the frame in the right rear wheel well holding the upper end of the shock absorber had broken in two places from rust intrusion.an inspection of the left rear wheel well indicated minimal rusting. Since the tires were recently replaced this failure was a surprise as the mechanic didn't note excessive rust, cracking or signs of metal fatigue. When the incident occured my son was driving on a gravel road toward a designated campground just a short distance from a paved highway. Although the vehicle has 4 wheel drive, it was never used in a rough manner such as for 4 wheeling or on rough uneven surfaces. This was my personal vehicle until a year ago. We had just spent $1,500 for new tires, a carburator repair and a new windshield that a rock had cracked. It was our intent to own the vehicle a few years longer since it has only 135,000 and is in good condition. My son was able to safely return to steamboat, a 5 hour drive from moab, but was very concerned the entire shock would push through the wheel well causing the vehicle to list or drift resulting in loss of control or a rollover, i.e. Serious injury or death. A local body shop refused to make repairs due to the extensive damage.to make the vehicle salvage based on its current value and condition is unthinkable, yet if repaid cannot be made at a reasonable cost, this may be our only choice. My research suggest the right rear wheel rust is fairly common in tributes and escapes, yet no recall.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated while driving 35 mph, there was an abnormal sound coming from the passenger's side rear wheel well. The vehicle was taken to woodhouse mazda located at6603 l st, omaha, ne 68117, (402) 592-1000, to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that rear sub frame was rusted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 97,000.

The rear wheel well is extremely rusted to the point of the shock being loose. Their is a recall for 01-04 but doesn't appear to offer same recall although numerous complaints from other owners with same issue. My wife recently noticed car made a lot of noise lately from rear wheel. When i investigated it, i noticed large rust issues all over rear wheel area and shock barely holding to frame. My wife's car has been garaged all its life. We bought it new off the show room. Doesn't make sense to have so much rust and now a huge safety concern. Undercarriage was even cleaned throughout winter months. We can't drive vehicle because it might fall apart on road and the car could lose control.

I was fully stopped at a stop sign on 8/31. I gently stepped on the gas pedal to make a right hand turn onto a busy street and my 05 mazda tribute took off at an uncontrollable rate of speed and i remember my vehicle jumping the curve, running threw a 4' sago palm (on the grass) and traveling approximately 35' - 45') before my brakes stopped the vehicle. The front end was severely damaged, passenger side rear wheel well hanging and damage to underside (i think, due to the palm). Driver's side airbag caused a few burns on my hand and arm. My vehicle was stopped in the middle of the road and no other vehicles were involved. Had i not stopped in time, there would have been other vehicles involved and more injuries or even death. Several police vehicles came and an accident report was filed.

There is excessive corrosion of the rear structure of my mazda. The noise from the passenger rear became a thunking and today i found the top portion of the strut had rusted and broke off. Upon further inspection it was found that the entire rear has excessive rusting to the structure. I found that this problem resulted in a recall of the same vehicle 2001-2004. Upon further inspection the mechanic stated he could not put the vehicle on a lift due to the extensive corrosion of the frame. I contacted mazda customer service and they stated that although there was a recall for corrosion it did not include my vin. The rear strut being broken and the bracket that holds it in place are no longer attached.

Mount shock completely destroyed by rust. I did not know this until it began creating strange noises. Its dangerous to drive like that. Its impossible to know until it collapsed.

The passenger side rear wheel well has rusted out. Suspension is now protruding into the interior of the vehicle. The extent of the rust is abnormal, even for the geographic area. It is no longer safe to drive the vehicle. Condition is result of manufacturing defect. Contacted mazda usa to ask when they will be scheduling recall based on huge number of complaints re: same issue and they stated that the issue is due to improper washing of the car and sent paragraph on how to wash a car. Useless.

While driving my 2005 mazda tribute on a paved city street, i noticed a sudden loud clanking/pounding in the passenger side, rear wheel well area. Assumed it was a bad shock but soon discovered that the the wheel well had rusted completely out, there is now a hole to the inside of my car. Some, but not much rust elsewhere on the vehicle (the other three wheel wells look great), but that part of the vehicle rusted through to the inside of the vehicle. Not driveable anymore until this is addressed. The vehicle itself is very mechanically sound and will cared for. There are lots of examples on online forums of this exact issue, on both tributes and ford escapes. Apparently there is a recall for these vehicles 01-04, but no further. Exact same issue, exact same wheel well. Please help!

A noise in the left rear developed and the rear shock broke off. Upon inspection it was determined that excessive corrosion on the entire frame from behind the front seat area back rendered the vehicle unsafe to drive. I contacted mazda corp and was tld that yes there were known cases of excessive corrosion on that er as well as ford escapes due to defective metal used in manufacturing. I was told it was not my fault as i could not have prevented it. That there was nothing they could do as the vehicle was out of warrantee. The mazda dealer who inspected the vehicle stated it was ne of the worst cases they had seen and not to drive it. I was forced to trade it in at a great loss because i need a vehicle.

Both rear wheel wells rusted out (passenger side much worse) causing shocks to come unmounted. Discovered by hearing thumping noise while driving.

The underside and even the fuel entry area is rusted and is beginning to affect the exterior paint job around the truck and doors.

The right rear wheel well has a large hole going through to the lift gate area of the vehicle. It's all rusted out.

Was driving and heard a loud thud in the backseat passenger wheel well. I drove less than a mile home and saw that the wheel well had disintegrated completely above the tire forcing the shock into the body of the car.

I heard a loud thump coming from the rear of my vehicle. I asked my husband to look at it when i got home and found the rear passenger fender well rusted out around the shock mount. This car is not safe to drive in this condition and is only ten years old.

The right rear strut tower has rusted causing the bracket to come loose from the body of the vehicle.i called a body shop to see if they could fix this and they knew the type of vehicle i have just based on the problem as it is so pervasive. In researching this it appears there is a defect in these mazda and ford escape models as it is a common finding.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, there was an abnormal thumping heard from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the passenger's side wheel house panel and inner panel assembly needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 91,000.

In the rear passenerger side wheel well, rusted out so badrear shockhas pulled away from body, causing jole all wsy thru car. Saw online this is a commom problem with this model and sister ford escapeheard recalls for 02 thru 04 models.

Right rear wheelhouse has completely rusted out at 146,000 miles, and the strut is disconnected from the frame. Mazda has denied any responsibility for this issue and offered no assistance despite the fact that there are hundreds of complaints of this very issue on the nhtsa website, and despite the fact that the 2001-2004 tributes were recalled and repaired for corrosion issues. The mechanic and collision repair center said they have never seen rust this bad in the same area of makes of vehicles.the collision repair center also stated that this is a $4,000-$6,000 repair that the owner should not be stuck with as it is a manufacture defect. They manufactured the 2005 ford escape frame in the same plant and they share the same problem.this occurred while i was traveling down the highway at 70mph and the shock broke free right behind my sons carseat, the shock was touching the inner plastic . Luckily i pulled over to find out what the noise was.mazda seems to have no concern for their customers safety.customer beware....and if you have a child at least put them on the drivers side for some safety. Lets all hope mazda will stand up for their defective product........

As a problem with many other mazda trubutes, the wheel well is rusted through and the strut is no longer held in place, yet protruding into the interior of the car. This has been an issue that required a recall for other mazda tributes, but not the 2005 version. According to many forums, this is a problem with many other 05 tributes.

Entire right (passenger) rear wheel well rusted away, including the shock mount.

2005 mazda tribute rear right wheel well rusted through shock protruding into the interior of the vehicle. Clear factory defect. Mazda will not fix this issue.

Start hearing loud noise thumbing sound in the right side of the back end by the shocks as we were driving. It started getting louder and more consisted. Took to ford dealer they looked at it said it would cost about $3,000+ to fix. Then we find out that the 2001-04 had a recall on them for the same issue, but they overlooked the 05 this is not right. Ford should take responsibility for this because i am sure they new that they should of recalled these trucks as well. Look how many just on here have the same issue.ford said they just had several in that they just fixed. Obviously there is a problem.when we first took it to get look at cause we were not sure what the noise was they told us we need to get it fixed the shock could possibly come through the floor board if not.

The passenger rear wheel well rusted out almost allowing the shock absorber to break free while the vehicle was in operation. Heard a tapping sound while driving that became louder. I checked the wheel well to see if anything was wrong and saw a small piece of rusted metal had broken away. The tapping became a banging and then i felt a sway. When i got home i found that the shock had almost broke free. The vehicle is undrivable now.

While driving the vehicle at a speed of about 35 mph i felt what appeared to be a flat tire.after checking the tire, there was nothing obvious showing. At speeds about 55 mph the sensation of a flat tire ceased, however, as soon as i would slow down, it would return, along with a loud noise. I took the car in to firestone tire.they discovered that the passenger side rear wheel well is completely rusted out. The strut housing is exposed and the wheel is at risk for literally separating from the vehicle.we were told that any small rear impact could cause the rear end of the vehicle to completely separate from the rest of the car. After having the vehicle checked by several different mechanics and body shops we were told that the vehicle is unsafe to drive and requires over $5800 in repairs.after contacting mazda, they refuse to acknowledge this as a recall and the only off they made was for $1,500-$3,000 off the purchase of a brand new mazda.we have cared for our vehicle impeccably.it only has 135,000 miles on it and has always had all maintenance performed.all other areas of the vehicle are in good condition.this is obviously an issue with the parts that were used on the assembly line during production.i find it very hard to believe that only one side in one area of the vehicle would rust out like this.mazda should take responsibility for this before someone is seriously hurt or killed.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While the vehicle was at the dealer for a routine repair, the technician diagnosed that the rear passenger side wheel housing and strut were corroded. As a result, the vehicle was deemed irreparable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 87,000.

2005 mazda tribute, rear wheel well completely rusted.while driving my wife hit a bump in the road, she then tells me there is a rattle. So i drive it the next day. The rattle was very easy to hear. Upon inspection the rear passenger wheel well had disintegrated and was almost completely gone, and the rattle was the strut that had come undone hitting the cargo compartment. Just had tires and brakes replaced and they inspected the vehicle as well only 2 months prior with no mention of any other problems.now it is unsafe to drive.no help from mazda, insurance, or the super warranty that covers everything bumper to bumper(or suppose to).come to find out while doing some research, this seems to be a problem for mazda. The 01-04 tribute has a recall for the same thing except calling for the front driver wheel well. When you take it in they replace all four.it also seems that the 05 model year has just as many problems with this as well. Both of us work and have to be able to get there as well as getting the children to multiple places.we bought this vehicle thinking that it was going to be a good and safe way to get where we need to go.turns out it was just a matter of time with this issue. We are lucky that it was the back i guess and not the front as she had the kids with her while on the highway and if the front would have come loose at hway speed it could have been a different outcome.i hope this does not happen to anyone else.2 estimates to repair both are $5-7000.can't pay to fix, and can't trade it in as it is worthless right now.this is a problem thatthe nhtsa and mazda needs to address.it is not only monetary but a safety issue as well. We work hard for what we have and feel like we just got robbed of our money.the dealers and mazda got theirs though.

Excessive, localized rust has developed in the right, rear wheel well, resulting in the shock being loose and making a loud banging sound when going over even small bumps. The left side and the rest of the car does not have this problem indicating a localized manufacturing/engineering defect.

Extreme rust/corrosion in the wheel well area - frame degraded and fell away from the body -- shock coming loose - occurred while driving on city street - going straight.

The right rear wheel well is completely rotted out. The shock mount is about to break away. I fear the shock could fall against the tire and cause a blowout or carbon monoxide could be entering the vehicle. I just found the problem and am now worried about my families safety. We have owned the tribute since new.

My 2005 mazda tribute has been taken very good care of since it was bought new. The car has been rust proofed several times, serviced regularly and always washed and waxed several times, and beyond, since ownership. That being said, my 2005 vehicle looks quite immaculate for its age, except for the ever-increasing severe rustissue on the right rear right wheel well, which i havw tried to fix, and keep up on, but has now rusted right through, and caused the shock to protrude into the interior of the vehicle. Now my mechanic claims he cannot service my vehicle for anything else (even though the service issues i need to address are important and critical to the use of my vehicle. I am now in a predicament, since the cost to repair this damage is very high, so high, it exceeds the current value of the vehicle, and i am enraged that mazda has not taken accountability for this clear factory defect. I say a clear factory defect, since this exact issue was addressed, and recalled, in the same vehicle for years 2001-2004, but not for 2005. In addition, i have met several other owners of the same vehicle who have/are experiencing the exact same issue, regardless of how well they have maintained their vehcile. Moreover, i can find the exact same issue for this vehicle on endless websites online, hundreds, more accurately, thousands of times! for mazda to still not have recalled this issue is unfair, ridiculous and very wrong to loyal mazda customers.i am now stuck with a vehicle i cannot drive due to a repair i cannot afford, but a repair that i should not be responsible for all the time, money, maintenance and care ive put into the ownership of my car.in addition, this issue is a huge safety concern and could easily cause harm to a person driving this vehicle, a passenger, or even an innocent pedestrian when popping through the floor, or at any other stage of wearing.

The right rear panel is rusting out and made the shock broke lose from the body and i had to take the rear underneath panel off and remove the shock. This has happen to two other tributes that in my area that i know of.

The rear wheel well rusted out causing the shock to poke a hole thru the back of my cargo area.this created a very dangerous situation for driving.my son was driving the vehicle and almost lost complete control over the car due to this.mazda has recalled 2004 and older for this exact problem but they have not recalled 2005.

The contact discovered that the rear passenger side wheel well was extremely corroded. The rear passenger shock also detached from the vehicle . The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the passenger side wheel well was rusted and corroded, causing the metal to separate from the frame of the vehicle. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving 30 mph, there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the rear passenger shock mount was corroded and the vehicle was unsafe to be driven. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 130,000.

Failed strut mount- heard a rattle noise in the vehicle - this noise increased over the next few days. Looking outside the vehicle i did not see anything loose or able to cause problem. Checked inside right rear storage and found large hole to see tire. Removing the interior panel revealed the entire wheel well had rusted out leaving the strut hanging by about 2-3 inches of metal. This was banging around causing the noise. If this had fully failed during driving, it may have caused catastrophic failure of the tire leading to major accident with injury. I have stopped driving it until there is a suitable fix.

The rear right wheel well has been completely rusted out to the point that the suspension broke through into the interior of the car. The left rear and both front wheel wells look to be in perfect condition which seems abnormal for just one wheel well to be affected by extreme rust and corrosion. We bought this mazda tribute less then a year ago from the dan wolf chevrolet dealership in naperville illinois, with it "passing inspection". Since then my family and i have treated this car with extraordinary care by regular maintenance and overall cleanliness. The my family of five (three children) have used this vehicle everyday to drive to work and school not knowing the danger it apposed on us and other drivers on the road. When researching this particular problem we noticed that this very dangerous and unsafe incident has happened to owners of the 2005 mazda tribute across the u.s. (http://www.carcomplaints.com/mazda/tribute/2005/body_paint/wheel_well_completely_rusted_out.shtml) the dealership nor mazda have been any help to solve this problem. I believe that a recall for this car should be made to avoid any harm or threat to families and drivers on the road.

2005 mazda while driving on a city street i heard a loud clunk coming from the right rear of the vehicle. I discovered that the right rearwheelhouse had rusted out and the shock tower had completely broken off.the left wheelhouse is close behind. This is the same problem addressed by a mazda recall for 2001-2004 models. Why hasn't mazda been forced to address the problem with the 2005 model?

The upper rear shock absorber mount came apart due to rust, the shock absorber came loose and was hitting against the wheel well or tire.repairs were made at a cost of 4600. The other rear shock absorber mount on the driver side did not show any signs of rust. Updated 09/29/15... Updated 09/30/15

Bought car for my son. Noticed a bamging noise in rear right back some of car. Looked at wheel well, completely rusted through, a big hole. Other under body rust. The 2000-2004 cars were recalled for this exact same problem. They continued to apply defect. Am afraid the shock absorber will fall off.many, many complaints about the exact same thing. Mazda should recall this vehicle, it is a dangerous defect they never fixed after recall. This is my son's first car, worried about his safety.

Right rear shock tower rusted out and shock broke through and into the passenger compartment. Sever rust on right side of front sub frame as well. I came across this performing general maintenance.

My mechanic noticed the shock support on the passenger side rear wheel well was badly rusted and said the shock could rust completely through and enter the rear of the car.i took the car to a body shop and they told me the same thing.they see it all the time in mazda and ford escapes and it would cost more to repair than the vehicle is worth.basically this is a major problem with this model car and could potentially be very dangerous to continue driving the car and have the shock rust completely off.

I am also a victim of the rear passenger wheel well rotting out so bad that it can not be repaired.vehicle only has 90,000 miles on it .mazda should take responsibility for this since it is not an isolated case

My right rear wheel well is completely rotted out. My body shop told me this should not ever happen. Also told me it was a bad piece of steel used in the manufacture and i could have been killed if it had not been detected and i kept driving it. The rest of my suv is immaculate. I have seen other complaints on this. It is costing me $1500.00 to repair. I was driving and started hearing a rattling sound and stopped at a mechanic. My mechanic told me thank god you stopped before you got hurt.

The rear right wheel well is completely rusted out and cracking.as the body shop owner explained to me that this is a huge problem with the tributes.i then looked online to find many complaints about the same problem.this is not safe to drive on

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact heard a loud noise coming from the rear driver side wheel. The contact discovered that the shock absorber was exposed due to the rear wheel well rusting away. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 160,000.

Right (passenger) rear wheel well rusted out so that shock is exposed and unattached. Suspension affected to the extent that car is not safe to drive.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving at an undisclosed speed, there was an abnormal noise coming from the rear passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that there was severe corrosion on the a-frame and rear suspension support of the vehicle. The contact was informed that the rear suspension support fractured. Wilkins mazda (750 n york rd, elmhurst, il 60126, (630) 279-3000) was contacted, but was unable to provide assistance with having the vehicle repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 147,000.

Right after purchasing the car i heard noise underneath, from the front to the back and after purchasing is when the dealer said it was in an accident. I had already purchased the car and paid 9,000 dollars for it a year and a half ago and now i can no longer drive it because of safety. I went to the manufacturer who has estimated the total cost of repair including parts is $20,000 and commented that the vehicle was in a flood and not safe to drive.the chassis/frame around the back right strut is almost gone due to rust and the other side is going as well. There is rust under all parts of the vehicle.i don't know why the dealer was allowed to sale me the car.

With no previous visible indication, rust ate away at the right rear wheel well around the shock mount.we noticed a loud squeaking one day from the back and, upon inspection, noticed teh sever rust damage.the metal had corroded behind the undercoating.the shock mount is no longer attached and the vehicle is not safe to drive.inspection does not show excessive rust anywhere else on the body.

I own a 2005 mazda tribute with 80,000 miles, new tires, new brakes, new spark plugs and pistons (installed in april ) cost=1200.00 took my car in for an inspection in may and my mechanic told me there was considerable rust on the right wheel well and may not support the struts he advised me not to drive it and i took it to a body shop and they said d1500.+ not including labor and they could not guaranteethey could gt rid of the rust, not involved in an accident-my car runs good but i afraid to drive it.75 retired and this is my only mode of transportation and i cannot afford another car.i noticed on line mazda has recalled a lot of cars for this same problem-do they nor undercoat cars anymore.

Entire upper mounting area for right rear shock rusted away; shock insecure at top inner fender. Reattachment not possible due to extensive rust; extensive repairs required that would exceed vehicle value.our mechanic was shocked when he saw the level of rust.we were told by our auto shop that this was not normal & we should contact mazda.mazda did not resolve.we believe that this defect is similar to the defect that caused the recall of mazda tributes through year 2004 - the year before our tribute was manufactured. Our vehicle cannot be repaired.we did not take photos at the shop & cannot get a good picture of the undercarriage.we can submit the documents we received from our mechanic or take the truck back to the shop for a picture of the undercarriage. Thank you for helping us address our concern.

Rear inner wheel well shock mount is completely rusted through on passenger side of vehicle.shock completely rusted away from frame on passenger side with drivers side condition soon to follow. Problem noted 04/27/15 at 95,000. Miles. Photos taken of issue. Problem occurred while driving 35 mph on residential street. Heard noise in rear of vehicle followed by bouncing in the rear end.

The right, rear wheel well is completely rusted through and looks like a major accident waiting to happen.the shock mount is connected to this portion of the frame and will more than likely shear off soon.upon searching this issue, it appears that several other 2005 mazda tribute and ford escape owners have experienced the same defect.mazda/ford recalled 2001-2004 models for the same problem, but has yet to address the problem for the 2005 model year.based on the widespread nature of the problem, it is obvious that this a factory defect and should be recalled either willingly or unwillingly.

Passenger rear wheel well completely rusted through leading to failure of the shock mount. Shock entering the vehicle cargo area through the body.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving approximately 45 mph, the contact heard a banging noise underneath the front passenger seat. The contact pulled the vehicle over, looked underneath, and found that the shock of the rear passenger tire was detachted. The shock would lean against the tire while the vehicle was being turned. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who diagnosed that the shock was detached and the area were the shock was located was completely rusted. The inside finder panel and the shock needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and informed the contact the vehicle was not covered by a recall. The vin was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 145,000.

The framework underneath and around the vehicle's rear passenger tire has rotted away, and the shock has penetrated the wheel well. The entire rear of the vehicle "rattles" loudly because of this. It appears that this deficiency was fixed, temporarily, before the sale of the vehicle was pursued.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that the rear passenger subframe and shock mount were extremely corroded. Halbinsel volkswagen mazda (located at 200 n 30th st, escanaba, mi 49829, (906) 789-9650) was notified, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The approximate failure mileage was 136,000.

My 2005 mazda tribute awd s is rusted out in the right rear wheelhouse along with the shock tower. Not drivable and sitting stationary. Why recalls only up to 2004 models? very disappointed. Doesn't make sense as there are many complaints on this issue. I have a car not drivable and no money for a new one. Retired with a fixed income. Help!!??

While driving home, the rear wheel on the passenger side on my 2005 mazda tribute started to knock and bang. Once i arrived home, upon further investigation i noticed that the rear wheel well was severely rusted and rotted. I also noticed that and the shock mount was fully rusted away from the body. Further research showed me that this seems to be a common problem with the 2005 ford escape and mazda tribute frames.

Our 2005 tribute model has the same rusting out of the right and left rear wheel wells that the 2001-2004 models of the tribute have experienced.those models were repaired under a recall, but this year's model and forward still have the same rusting out problem.dealers for mazda and ford won't even look at this to repair it.car is now basically undrivable. And from what i've found, mazdaworld.com says that most of these vehicle were actually manufactured in 2004 but dated to 2005 model year.but avoided the 2004 recall because of thisi can find a kit on ebay to fix, but no dealers will do the work. There have been plenty of complaints, but no action on this known problem that has existed in prior model designs.

We heard a loud drubbing sound, like the back seat had come undone.in fact, the underneath of the seat, under the car had become so rusted that the shock was detached from the rest of the car, which was making that sound.i was driving with my kids in the car for 100's of miles like this!mazda had a recall on 2002-2004 mazda tributes but did not include my mazda 2005, though made in 2004 and has the same issues as the recall, rust in the wheel well.mazda will not fix it and will not pay for it since i had to fix it.i paid $1,086 to fix this, being without a car for a month.i was lucky that it was this cheap, only because they gave me a break.it was estimated to be over $2k.even the clerk at mazda said these vehicles "are all known to rust", so i can obviously sue mazda on just that testimony, but otherwise, i have no recourse except to pay for this and wait and hope that a recall will pay me back some day.

I havehadthis suv since new and have taken very good care of it. We do not drive it in winter as we have another car in fla. But still like thousands of other tributes, escapes and mariners the right rear shock mount has rusted out along with inter finder wheel well!. Which has left us with a very unsafe vehicle.

The passenger side rear strut upper mount rusted and broke away from the body after 11 years and 126, 500 miles. The mazda was purchased new in june 2005; and routine and as needed maintenance and repair was performed by the same mazda dealer. I noticed rust in the passenger rear side wheel well in 2014 and began asking the mazda dealer about it. During all mazda full circle suspension checks performed by the mazda dealer, the suspension was marked or checked "ok" "green", and then in jan 2016- the strut mount rusted out of the body and the dealer said the car was unsafe to drive. I believe this was way too early for the car to rust out. I also question the integrity of mazda's full circle inspection and the mazda dealer. Had the mazda dealer been candid and told me about the rust problem with this model and year rather than year after year continuing to suggest other maintenance and repair service, most likely i would have traded or sold this mazda before it rusted out.based on this experience, i will not purchase another mazda.

Our 2005 mazda tribute passenger side rear wheel well is rusted out to the point the strut has detached from it's mounting making it unsafe to drive the vehicle.this vehicle has been garage kept.a thumping noise was noticed while driving on a city street.this is what prompted me to take a look in the wheel well.the other 3 wheel wells have no rust. After doing some research, i found this is a common problem with other 2005s as well as previous model years that have a recall for the same issue.i don't understand why this year hasn't been included in the recall when it's the same issue that was occurring in earlier model years.i contacted the mazda dealership, and they reported not hearing of this issue with any 05s but they are currently fixing a 2003 with the same issue. They reported because there isn't a recall there wasn't anything they could do to help me out other than for me bringing it in to determine if they could fix it at my cost.without seeing the vehicle, they said it would likely cost at least $700 to fix depending on how extensive the rust is.i'm concerned about the safety of driving this vehicle and don't feel this is a normal occurrence for a vehicle

Rear shock mount rusted, right side. Can not drive my car and no one will buy it in this condition. The body shop cannot repair and he said it is too dangerous to drive. It can cause an accident.

Completely rusted out right side rear wheel well and suspension support. Seems to be a common and dangerous problem. Visual inspection of the rear passenger side wheel well revealed that the suspension arm was broken away from the body of the vehicle, making it unsafe to drive based on a mechanic's opinion. The suspension mount rusted completely away from the wheel well and has now exposed the interior portion of the rear cargo area. There was a recall on the front side for this issue for up to model year '04, but not including '05 which has the same body??

The passenger side rear wheel well is rusted out and the shock absorber is exposed and barely supported.the driver side is fine. There was a recall for this problem for the prior 4 years to this. It will be un-driveable soon.

The entire rear passenger wheel well has rusted away and the shock is completely detached from the frame on our tribute. This is obviously not normal wear and tear as the vehicle is only 10 years old and it is only happening on the rear passenger. It is going to cost me a lot to fix and will definitely be the last mazda i buy (unless by chance mazda sees how this is a major problem with tributes/escapes and makes it right).

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving 30 mph, there was an abnormal sound coming from the rear passenger side of the vehicle. The contact stated that there was a grinding sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the subframe and shock mounts fractured from excessive corrosion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving 65 mph, there was a loud noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. It was diagnosed that the rear tail pipe had fallen off and the passenger side wheel well was rusted out. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

I own a 2005 tribute that has been kept in meticulous condition.always garaged and taken to the dealership for maintenance.the vehicle runs like new with no signs of wear and tear, and has been a great car.that all changed when a few weeks ago i was driving about 40 mph down a residential street, and hit a small patch of bumps in the road (not potholes, just normal uneven pavement spots) and all of a sudden heard a jackhammer noise from the back of the car.the passenger side rear wheel well had completely disintegrated, leaving the wheel/suspension detached from the vehicle body/frame.nothing was holding the suspension tower to the car.had i been going faster or didn't stop right away this could have killed me.i have three small kids and i am so upset that such a dangerous condition is well-known.the way i found out was that i immediately went to the ford/mazda dealership when the noise happened.they took in the car and called me the next morning to say they wanted nothing to do with it because their corporate ford/mazda policy instructed them not to accept or work on vehicles with this defect.i'm shocked that ford/mazda would conceal such a dangerous known condition in their vehicles, putting thousands and thousands of people at risk without any warning.if i had received some kind of notification that the problem existed i would have gone to get it fixed right away at my own expense if needed, but instead i drove thousands of miles on the highway with my kids in the car ignorant to the fact that the car could have broken apart and caused us to crash without any warning.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving at approximately 45 mph, there was a loud abnormal noise coming from the rear passenger side. In addition, the vehicle jerked to the right.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the rear shock absorber was rusted and that the vehicle was irreparable. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

I went to get my oil changed and the mechanic showed me my rear wheel well. The shock mount is completely rusted out and unsafe to drive. He said he has never seen anything that bad.i have to go to a body shop and get a whole new wheel well and shock system. It is going to cost around $1100.

Many complaints of the rear frame of vehicle completely rusting out. The mechanics said it is unsafe to drive and costs thousands to fix. Most people will not notice this until it's too late.

The right rear wheel well is completely rusted out causing there to be no connection between the body and the rear shocks. Left rear wheel well is starting to rust. No other rust on the car other than the wheel wells. Estimate from the shop is over $4000. Only 9 years old and 125,000 miles on vehicle.

Right rear frame has rusted out enough to cause brake and shock issues causing a perfectly good vehicle to become unsafe and dangerous for my family and others. The shock and brake line broke and the vehicle slid to a stop.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving 35 mph, a rattling noise was heard from the rear of the vehicle. The contact pulled over to observe the vehicle and noticed that the strut mount for the rear passenger side was severely rusted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the entire rear quarter panel assembling and wheel well were severely rusted and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

Driving cross country and heard a loud thump in rt rear wheel well.after that every bump no matter how small the thump became more pronounced.stopped to check things out, rt rear wheel well completely rusted through exposing suspension and corrosion on attachment to frame.able to drive home safely, had dealership check it over and cost of repair to frame damage over cost of vehicle.dealership reports ongoing issue with rt rear wheel well on 2005 year.way to early for this much corrosion.

The passenger side rear wheel well has rusted out such that the suspension is now protruding into the interior of the vehicle. This was discovered when regular rattling from the area progressed into loud bangs with each bump. The mechanic who discovered stated that the rust was abnormal, even for the geographic area, and that none of the other wheel wells exhibited any signs of rusting. He stated it was no longer safe to drive the vehicle and that this condition was most likely the result of some sort of manufacturing defect (as opposed to regular and expected oxidation).

I purchased a 2005 mazda tribute new from a dealership in elgin, il.when the vehicle was approximately 2 years old, the rear lift gate began to rust, resulting in the paint peeling and flaking off.this has continued to get worse and has occurred in multiple areas on the rear lift gate.though i located multiple reports of this same problem on the internet, there has been no recalls.one report stated there was a technical issue with the paint by ford (where the vehicles are manufactured) used causing this problem, but ford has not corrected the problem or issued a recall.

The entire passenger side wheel well is completely rusted out. When compared to the other wheel wells you can see the white foam that is supposed to be on the inside of my car. There is also a plastic piece missing due to the screws loosing their hold. The car makes a noise that sounds like there is something bouncing around in the back when in reality it is the suspension.

Went to get my annual inspection and was told that my right rear shock tower is rusted out.

Similar to others, started hearing a knocking/rattling in the right rear. Upon inspection the right rear wheel well is rusted out, and the knocking continues to get worse. Similar to the recall by mazda for 2001 - 2004 models. Car will be unsafe to drive and should be addressed by mazda.

Rusted on left side rear wheel will not pass inspection new tires, brakes spark plugs and pistons rides like a dream but the rust will not support the shocks needs to be recalled by mazda an inferior ford body

The contact owns a 2003 mazda tribute. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the vehicle independently veered to the right and crashed into a curb. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the sub frame was fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to a dealer, where the contact was informed that the vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 14v174000 (structure) and could not be repaired under the recall a second time. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 92,000.

I would like a complete refund of all dollars spent in acquiringa 2005 mazda tribute vin [xxx] on march 06, 2017 from certified auto brokers llc in hendersonville, tn 37075, license #[xxx]. (attached bill of sale) due to serious safety issues with this vehicle.due to extensive rust and corrosion damage, the frame is likely to collapse in the event of a rear end collision endangering the safety of its passengers, rather than crush and absorb the impact as it was originally designed to do. In addition, it is prone to swerve and possibly tip over out of control on uneven pavement due to a missing passenger side rear shock that was not disclosed prior to purchase (photos attached). The left side shock is worn out and also ready to fall off at any moment as well.because the fender wells are rusted through exhaust fumes can enter the passenger cabin which could have serious health consequences to its inhabitants. Evidence suggests at some point the damaged areas were covered with paint or undercoat in an attempt to hide these defects.the drive shaft, the frame and the underside of the vehicle are severely corrosion damaged. The parking brake is inoperative due to rust and could cause the vehicle to roll down hill while parked. There is significant rust hidden underneath the fender flares.had i kept driving this vehicle i could have been severely injured and endangered the lives of others on the road. Certified auto brokers was negligent in representing this vehicle as being in excellent condition and selling it with known serious safety issues (refer to attached advertisement).since the 2005 mazda tribute as sold is unsafe, unfit for the road and does not fulfill its implied usefulness, i am asking for a complete refund of the purchase price and all taxes and registration fees incurred in purchasing this vehicle.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The right rear wheel housing area rusted so bad that the top of shock bracket rusted away and shock started banging against floor. Took it to my mazda dealer and service manager said it was not right that this should happen. He knows that i garage and take car of my vehicles.he gave me the number to call mazda for help. Mazda said they would not help! i can't drive this vehicle because it is dangerous and unsafe. Because of family medical issues i can't afford to have it fixed and i will not trade it off to an unsuspecting buyer. Don't know what i will do.looked on internet and found many of the same problems with the tribute and ford escape (both, which i been told by car dealers' service personal, are the same vehicle). You would think a auto company would stand behind their product. I'm no longer proud of the fact that i have owned about 10 mazda vehicles.

My mazda tributes right rear wheel well rusted completely off, leaving my strut hanging.there is no metal left to be connected to the suspension/shocks.the rest of the vehicle body including all other wheel wells are fine.the car is well maintained and garage parked.contacted mazda usa and a local dealership but mazda refused to participate on any repair.

I had a rattling noise that started coming from the right rear and sounded like something was bouncing around in the back compartment.it got worse fast.i was stunned to find not only the right wheel well, but both sides completely rusted through and the shocks were ready to break away from the mounts.both my mechanic shop and a reputable body shop independently told me that this vehicle is not safe to drive.the body shop is hesitant to touch it.they said that they can try to fabricate and fix it, but the problem is when there is rust involved, where do they stop?i bought this vehicle less than a year ago, supposedly taken very good care of, as i do.i still owe thousands on it and i'm not happy!my 2002 escape didn't have rust problems ... The motor went out before it had rust!

As a result, the contact experienced rough driving and heard banging noises coming from the rear passenger side wheel. The contact drove to an independent mechanic who informed her of the rust. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall; therefore, the contact would be responsible for the repair cost. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 200,000.

I was driving on an icy road, heard a loud bang, followed by a loud thumping noise from rear of vehicle. It caused me to lose control and slide into a snow bank. The right rear shock had broken loose and broke through the inside of cargo floor. I needed the suv for going to work and had to get it repaired at the cost of over $1000. I feel mazda should reimburse me for the repair bill. The whole shock tower was rusted through.i still have a hole in the inside cargo floor.

Loud banging from rear of auto during drive, found that rear passanger sideshock mount and housing completely rusted out. Cannot drive auto as its a safety problem as shock is not attached to anything

Rust inside the rear right wheel well has corroded the frame and metal.now it has started to rattle and i'm afraid my car will detach from that area.i've heard of many complaints about this problem. The manufacturer built it very poorly and easy for water and salt to get in that area and rust it out.there should be a recall on this.the ford escape and the mazda tribute are know for these problems.i see that for did a recall on their escape. Mazda should do the same.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While the contact was cleaning out the vehicle, he noticed that the frame was completely rusted. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 109,000.

Pulled away from house to leave for work and at about 30 mph i heard the worst sound.it came from the rear right side of the car.it was worse over bumps, stopping etc.took it to an auto mechanic who drove it first and brought me back to show me a rusted out wheel well with interior exposed.all remaining three wheel wells were perfect, fine he stated.i started by calling mazda who is sending me to a dealership to have it inspected.the dealership will then pass that info on.it is outside the warranty period and i the representative told me this would not be covered.it was bought brand new in 2005 and we are the original owners.no accidents or mishaps to that area of the car.we know this will cost a bundle and read so many complaints online about the ford escape 2005 having the exact same problem.it said the two are "mechanical siblings."i wrote down websites i visited with complaint/question forums and the quotes for repairing are astronomical for a error made on the manufacturers end.this is a safety issue when you have the potential for the shocks to go through the rear of the car right behind my sons car seat.the consumer was informed, the frame was cracked, due to a rusted out wheel well. The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving at an unknown speed, there was a loud sound coming from the rear passenger wheel of the vehicle. The contact coasted to the side of the road and noticed that the rear passenger side frame was corroded. The vehicle was taken to pugi mazda (1850 ogden ave, downers grove, il 60515, (877) 827-9086) where it was diagnosed that the rear passenger side wheel well was completely corroded and the rear shocks needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 146,100.

I just wanted to add to the long list of mazda tribute 2005 owners with the right rear wheelhouse problem due to rust and corrosion causing the strut to disconnect from the frame. My vehicle currently has 116k miles. The left rear and front wheel house areas are in great shape. Its astonishing with the multitude of mazda owners reporting this issue and the 100's of internet web sites documenting this issue that mazda hasn't taken ownership of this problem and released a fix. I've read the ford motor company did just so with the comparable 2005 escape line.

As research has shown the 2001 - 2004 tributes have recalls on the subframe of the vehicle, my 2005 has the same problem on the subframe and is so rusted out that it is ready to break apart. I believe this is the same part as the earlier models and my vin has been left out of the recall, i would really be great full if we can have this matter resolved before it becomes a tragic matter while driving the vehicle. Thank you very much for your time. I remain. My vehicle will be going into the dealer tomorrow morning for a different recall matter at bay shore mazda in long island n.y. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at [xxx].information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving 20 mph, there was an abnormal bouncing motion from the rear passenger side tire. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the undercarriage was corroded through and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 68,000.

The car is rusted through like so many others in the rear passenger wheel well. The suspension is twisting and poking through. I did not know there was a problem until i heard a knocking noise.

Right rear wheelhouse has rust and corrosion at 128,000 miles, and the strut is disconnected from the frame. Mazda has denied any responsibility for this issue and offered no assistance despite the fact that there are hundreds of complaints of this very issue on the nhtsa website, and despite the fact that the 2001-2004 tributes were recalled and repaired for this very issue. The mechanic and collision repair center said they have never seen rust this bad in a vehicle housed and driven in the southeast where there is little to no snow/salted roads, and no history of flood damage.

Started hearing banging noises while driving.finally realized it was coming from the passenger side rear wheel well, which was completely rusted.this caused the shock absorber to detach and bang on the car while driving.the car is in otherwise good condition, with no other rust problems.there was a recall for the same issue on the 2001-2004 models, but not 2005.

I heard a loud creaking/thud noise coming from the rear passenger side wheel area while driving over any size bump/depression on city streets and highways. Looking closer, i saw that it was because the metal around that particular shock mount had rusted and cracked, and the mount would flex inwards when the shock was compressed. The problem is only on that wheel, and it is a common issue with other vehicles of the same model, so it must be a design flaw.

In the rear passenerger side wheel well, rusted out so badrear shockhas pulled away from body, causing jole all wsy thru car. Saw online this is a commom problem with this model and sister ford escapeheard recalls for 02 thru 04 models.

Left rear shock absorber mount separated from the vehicle frame during normal driving (slow speed - 25mph) due to what appears to be a faulty design. All connecting bolts, washers and nuts are intact and secure in the shock absorber and mount area.this has resulted in a serious safety issue when driving the vehicle and it was fortuitous that the driver was notoperating in highway or more intense conditions when the vehicle failed.i have contacted mazda north america and have received a service report from the local mazda dealer in charlotte, nc.(information available if needed).while the vehicle is 10 years old, a failure of this type is unusual and rare but identified from multiple sources as corrosion issues that ford / maza have on the 03 to 05 models which should result in a recall and remedy by the manufacturer. Having researched this issue it's clearly a manufacture flaw in the design of this model, not just because as an owner i have an issue to deal with, but as a consumer with knowledge of the unusual nature of this failure.

While replacing the brakes on my 2005 mazda tribute, i discovered the right rear wheel well compromised by excessive rust. After researching online, this appears to be a major quality defect in the manufacturing of this vehicle and similar ford and mercury models (escape and mariner). I recently purchased this car, but only now noticed the rust. Several people are calling for ford to issue a recall/repair for these vehicles for this issue. I agree with them.

Passenger side wheel well including strut for top of shock absorber rusted causing a dangerous condition. In the 10 yrs i owned this car, no impending failure of that area was detected in all annual and other inspections.while driving in heavy truck traffic on i87 (pa) i heard a loud explosion, smelled burning rubber, and temporarily lost control of my vehicle. I maneuvered to the side of the highway, examined the rear passenger tire and was able to remove and bend pieces of metal that were rubbing on the tire. This is apparently a well-known problem with tributes and ford escapes (2001-?) and has been reported to those companies multiple times. I was able to cautiously proceed driving with vehicle to my destination. The car is unstable while making turns, especially if the road causes the right rear tire to bounce. None of the recall notices i received since buying this car in 2007 have ever mentioned right rear rust problems.if i had been notified of this impending dangerous condition i would have taken steps to prevent it.does someone have to be seriously injured or killed before mazda and ford do the right thing to correct the obvious manufacturing defect in 2001-present (?) tributes and escapes?

The framework underneath and around the vehicle's rear passenger tire has rotted away, and the shock has penetrated the wheel well. The entire rear of the vehicle "rattles" loudly because of this. It appears that this deficiency was fixed, temporarily, before the sale of the vehicle was pursued.

The rear passenger wheel well has rusted out.all of the other wheel wells look fine.i have owned this vehicle since it was new.2000-2004 is covered in a recall.why is 2005 not covered?looking online it looks like this is a common problem with the 2005 and for some reason an unsafe 2005 tributes seems to have made it past being covered

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute.the contact stated that while driving 55 mph, a loud noise emitted from the rear passenger's side. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the shock detached from vehicle because they were installed incorrectly. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.the approximate failure mileage was 132,000.

Right rearshock tower rusted out, came apart from the vehicle while driving 40 mph

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 146,100.

When i took my tribute in to get my annual inspection sticker the mechanic told me there was considerable rust underneath my vehicle he said it would not support the shocks in researching this vehicle i found there were 332 complaints and 53 was for the same problem i have i think mazda should recall my vehicle or pay to have it repaired or i think all of us should file a class action law suit against mazda or ford because they own mazda

The passenger side rear wheel well is rusted out and the shock absorber is exposed and barely supported.the driver side is fine. There was a recall for this problem for the prior 4 years to this. It will be un-driveable soon.

While driving at any speed, the vehicle made a loud bumping noise. My mechanic diagnosed that the entire rear passenger side wheel well was rusted out and the shock tower was unsupported.

The right rear wheel well metal as well as the strut attachment are rusted. Parts of the wheel well dislodge while driving. Mechanics tell me that the right rear strut will become unattached. They say that this is evident on ford escapes as well. The right rear is the only affected area. Potentially a very serious problem.mazda claims it is out of warranty - too bad.

As others have stated the 2005 mazda tribute has a serious factory/manufacturing defect that mazda has blatantly ignoring.while driving in the city limits the vehicle began making a loud thumping noise coming from the passenger rear.upon inspection found that there was beyond major rust making the vehicle unsafe. The vehicle currently has 123,817 miles. The rest of the vehicle is in very good condition.the passenger side rear wheel well and shock mount are completely rusted out.it is unsafe to drive and mazda needs to address this issue immediately.maybe they prefer to see someone killed or seriously injured by the kind of accident this failure could cause.a vehicle in otherwise good condition with this mileage should not relegate the vehicle to the junk yard or leave the owner with a $2000- $3000 repair.

While driving, my passenger and i noticed a strange noise coming from the rear passenger wheel well.after inspecting it, we discovered that the entire wheel well was rusted out and that the suspension system was disconnected.hence, the entire area is being cut out and rebuilt.after speaking with a representative from mazda, my vehicle is out of any consideration of assistance from mazda because of the age and mileage on the vehicle.

On july 12, 2017 while driving my car to work i noticed several loud thumps coming from the back of my car. I stopped at the gas station to see where the noise was coming from and noticed that my right wear wheel well had rusted out. I walked over to the left side and noticed no erosion or rust. I took my car to the to a near body shop and the total to replace this would be over $2,000. I also searched on the web and found a website called aboutautomoble.com who had a list of 51 of the same complaints as mine.

The entire passenger side wheel well is completely rusted out. When compared to the other wheel wells you can see the white foam that is supposed to be on the inside of my car. There is also a plastic piece missing due to the screws loosing their hold. The car makes a noise that sounds like there is something bouncing around in the back when in reality it is the suspension.

Many complaints of the rear frame of vehicle completely rusting out. The mechanics said it is unsafe to drive and costs thousands to fix. Most people will not notice this until it's too late.

Useless.

While driving on the highway i began to notice a loud banging coming from the back of the car. After inspecting the rear door to verify the sound was not an open door, i found that the underside of the car, specifically the rear right axle, was rusted and deteriorating. Upon further inspection i found that the shock mount had rusted, a problem that will soon cause problems for the wheel mount. There are a multitude of complaints online, all pointing out that this is a factory issue, and all mazda tributes and ford escapes in this year range have this exact problem. This is an issue that must be fixed in the next week or else i will not be able to drive my car- a car i have owned for less than a year.

Passenger rear wheel well completely rusted through leading to failure of the shock mount. Shock entering the vehicle cargo area through the body.

Caris making a lot of noise and vibration and chatter from the right rear wheel well.i had new shocks put in and he mechanic '":told me the wheel well was rusting out.and i should get it fix as soon as possible!!!!!

No crash but the underside is rusted and unsafe to drive as it does not support the shocks this car should be recalled i understand mazda recalled a lot of these cars from 2001-2004 with the same problem my car has new tires new brakes and new spark plus and pistons only 80,000 miles and runs good but it is rusted my daughter has a honda with 123,000 miles and it runs perfect with no rust this is not acceptable to me that the mazda is rusted. I would not advise anyone to buy a mazda because they do not last very long.

Passenger side inner rear wheel well rusted out and completely seperated shock from frame. I was driving along last week and suddenly started hearing a rattling sound. I pulled over to inspect only to find nothing in trunk. Took truck to mechanic only to be told the entire shock had seperated from frame. The other wheel well is rust free. This is a known problem in mazda tributes only recalled from 2001-2004, when tributes from 2001-2006 have interchangeable parts and tons of people online in all forums are experiencing the same rust problem in the same locations all over the us.

Rear shock towers excessive rust.

Passenger side rear wheel well severely rusted, shock/strut detached from vehicle while driving. Loud thumping/banging noise coming from rear wheel. Took to mechanic to have inspected, deemed unsafe to operate on any roadway.

The right rear panel is rusting out and made the shock broke lose from the body and i had to take the rear underneath panel off and remove the shock. This has happen to two other tributes that in my area that i know of.

I havehadthis suv since new and have taken very good care of it. We do not drive it in winter as we have another car in fla. But still like thousands of other tributes, escapes and mariners the right rear shock mount has rusted out along with inter finder wheel well!. Which has left us with a very unsafe vehicle.

Shock mount has rusted out and the strut is hanging loose. You look up from under the vehicle and see into the interior insulation. Strut can cause loss of control of the vehicle. Rotted out wheel well can allow exhaust fumes to enter the vehicle causing serious injury or death.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle made a loud clanking noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who noticed the right rear shock was rusted around the wheel well. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 200,000. Updated 09/09/14*lj updated 9/10/2014

Help!!??

The passenger side rear wheel well strut mount isonly hanging on by a small amount of steel.you can see the interior trim plastic on 3 sides of the upper strut mount bracket. Pieces of rusted steel peel away with 2 fingers. There is no upper strut support and the top threading of the strut is hitting the plastic interior piece in the trunk area. This is a serious safety concern; if the lower strut mount is loose, then there is a potential for further damage to the area and potential the upper bracket gets into the tire. My family's safety is my #1 priority.after researching the problem, i cannot understand why this is not a recall. Both the 2005 mazda tribute and the 2005 ford escape have a high volume of this defect. Basing my experience as a quality engineer in a sheet steel fabrication facility, this type of defect can be related to either poor material quality or choice of materials, poor engineering practices, poor manufacturing processes, and/or poor protection of the wheel well area (more durable coatings).either way, based on my engineering knowledge and opinion, this defect repair should be covered by the manufacturer. I have had older vehicles that never seen this type of defect. I will never purchase a similar type of vehicle by this manufacturer again due to the nature of this problem and the no recall condition of this problem. Apparently the manufacturer is turning a blind eye to quality and safety related issues on the tribute and escape. I do understand that this is an older vehicle, but some quality issues do not show up until years later and the manufacturer is still responsible for these types of safety concerns the public is obviously having with these vehicles.

Both rear wheel well housings , sub frame , main supports rusted out , car nowcannot be driven. Broke when it was being driven, car sank down on passenger side , started making aloud pounding sound , it happened on a busy city street.

Rear passenger side wheel well is rusted out so the shock that is mounted to said wheel well is freely swinging around. Mazda recalled tributes up to the year 2004 but the 2005 which has essentially the exact same design was not recalled. This is a known problem and a common problem for the 2005 mazda tribute. The wheel well is designed with thin sheet metal and neither the grade nor thickness prevent rusting. While the wheel well is designed to withstand the forces generated by the shock it does not seem to be designed to withstand those forces under conditions in which the wheel well has rusted. This is extremely unsafe and very easy to over look or not notice on a day to day basis which could lead to a failure at medium to low speeds.

Takata recall the rear passenger shock mount has rusted to the point to where it makes a horrible clunk severe metal to metal rattle while driving.i refuse to allow my wife to drive it due to safety concerns of the shock coming loose and causing an accident.this noise can be heard driving as slowly as 5mph while driving straight and turning on a flat smooth road.please make a recall for this year of mazda tribute as this is a major safety issue

My mazda 2005, has totally rusted out on the passenger back wheel well. The suspension is affected as well.the repairs are going to be very costly and i found out that the 01-04 models have done the same and there was a recall for the same exact issue. Mazda needs to extend the recall to include the 05 model as well. I am also filing a report with mazda.

After hearing rattling from the rear passenger-side when going over potholes, i took my car in for shock/struts. I was told that the noise was not my shocks, but that the wheel well was rusted out. The shocks were ok, but there was nothing to attach them to. I was further told by the mechanic that he had never seen corrosion this bad on a 10yr old car with 50,000 miles. Advice was to find a body shop to fabricate a part. I've read that this is occurring with lots of mazda tributes and ford escape in different years. So why isn't mazda/ford making these repairs. This is a defect. I should have gotten a honda: something i trust.

The shock tower was completely rusted out on the drivers side rear. It is possible to see the tire. The rust began in gasoline entry area per the mechanic and then spread to the shock tower. This has also effected the threads on the tire. I believe these cars should be recalled immediately. This a dangerous issue. I should be reimbursed for repairs related to the rust totaling $1056. Does not include the need to replace the worn tires.

Rear suspension support on passenger side rusted and broke off from frame while driving.

The car is rusted through like so many others in the rear passenger wheel well. The suspension is twisting and poking through. I did not know there was a problem until i heard a knocking noise.

Excessive, localized rust has developed in the right, rear wheel well, resulting in the shock being loose and making a loud banging sound when going over even small bumps. The left side and the rest of the car does not have this problem indicating a localized manufacturing/engineering defect.

My 2005 mazda tribute has rusted out in the right rear wheelhouse around the shock mount.called the dealership and was told it is a known issue that they have no fix for and to take it to a welding/fab shop.the mazda tribute only has 71000 miles on it so it is not due to any excessive driving.

While turning into a business the lower control arm mount came apart at the subframe. There appears to be substancial rust in the area.

Passenger side rear wheel well completely rusted out causing strut to push through into interior trim.a minimum $1,000 repair estimate.

The car began making a loud banging noise from the right rear. Upon inspection by our mechanic it was diagnosed as a complete rusting through of the right rear well, causing the shock to no longer be attached to the frame. The shock was actually visible from the inside rear of the car. We were told the car was no longer safe to drive. Mazda was unwilling to do anything about the failure, in spite of my finding numerous other complaints related to the same failure on blogs. A frame shop had to install a new inner wheel house panel. Cost of the repair was $2000.

Right rear wheel well is completely rusted where it holds shock. This is the same problem of recalled 2001-2004 mazdas. This year should be recalled also.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving at any speed, the vehicle made a loud bumping noise. The dealer diagnosed that the vehicle was corroded near the rear passenger side suspension and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 97,000.

The right rear wheel well completely rusted out and left the shock attached to absolutely nothing.

Rusted through body back right wheel causing shock to push through inside of car.

I heard a loud thump coming from the rear of my vehicle. I asked my husband to look at it when i got home and found the rear passenger fender well rusted out around the shock mount. This car is not safe to drive in this condition and is only ten years old.

2005 mazda tribute.my 17 year old daughter was driving the vehicle down the freeway and she heard a loud thud. She pulled over but did not see any apparent damage.she drove home and the sound became louder. When she returned home i looked at the tribute.the entire shock body was disengaged from the frame. The right rear shock assemble was no longer attached.the rear passenger side shock was separating from the vehicle. It had rusted completely through. The vehicle does not have rust anywhere else.this could have been a disaster.i am the original owner and have i have had the vehicle for in formost normal maintenance and tires and they never mentioned any concerned with this becoming detached.this is obviously a safety issues.i am very thankful that my daughter was not hurt.research on this issues suggest that this is a known problem with the tribute and escape vehicles.it is especially true for the right rear section.why is there no recall?

While driving home, the rear wheel on the passenger side on my 2005 mazda tribute started to knock and bang. Once i arrived home, upon further investigation i noticed that the rear wheel well was severely rusted and rotted. I also noticed that and the shock mount was fully rusted away from the body. Further research showed me that this seems to be a common problem with the 2005 ford escape and mazda tribute frames.

2005 mazda tribute has a defect in which the vehicle pulls to the left.***no answer required***. *mrwhen the consumer would let go of the steering wheel the vehicle would veer to the left into oncoming traffic.the vehicle had been taken to the dealer three times for this problem but they have been unable to determine the cause.the vehicle's alignment was adjusted, all four tires were replaced and the front end suspension cradle was moved but none of these repairs corrected the problem.the manufacturer was contacted but they provided no assistance.the brakes made noise while driving at low speeds.the rotors were resurfaced then replaced but the noise persisted.at one time the brake pedal went down tot he floor.

Right rear frame has rusted out enough to cause brake and shock issues causing a perfectly good vehicle to become unsafe and dangerous for my family and others. The shock and brake line broke and the vehicle slid to a stop.

I was on the freeway when i heard a loud thud the wheel well rotted out so bad that broke the shock on the rear back passenger side. This caused me to swerve and almost had an accident.. You recall the 2001 and 2004 models for the same issue why not add the 2005 because there is been hundreds and hundreds of complaints about this.

Right rear wheelhouse has rust and corrosion at 102,000 miles, and the strut mounting is completely rusted away from the frame making the car undrivable.the mazda dealership will not fix as it affects the frame and they do not want the liability.there are many complaints of this very issue on the nhtsa website and others for the 2005.in addition, mazda issued a recall in 2014 for the 2001-2004 tributes.

The right rear top shock mount on my 2005 mazda tribute totally rusted off the unibody frame.

While drivingiheard a thumping sound coming from right rear of vehicle. Mechanic checked it out and found the right rear wheelwell completely rusted out stating it was a danger to drive the carhe checked with a body shop and was told they did not want to repair because of liability issues.

Passenger side rear wheel well completely rusted out, exposing and causing failure in the associated shock. The rear bumper now rattles over even the tiniest bit of uneven pavement and the car will sway in the back rear over larger bumps hit with that back wheel.first noticed going over uneven pavement after being parked for about 4 hours. Nothing prompted it other than a piece of uneven road may have been the final straw. This is apparently becoming a common problem in the 2005 mazda tributes and was addressed in a recall for 2001-2004 tributes. Same problem, same area (passenger side rear wheel well)this is not safe!

Loud clunking on bumps and a tendency for an unusual sway in some circumstances while driving on the highway led to taking a look under the right rear of the car.a whole 8"x12" roughly oval piece of the right rear inner wheel well has rusted through where the upper shock mount is attached.right rear shock is no longer attached to the car at the top.vehicle is not safe to drive.it appears this was a recall issue in prior years, which was not corrected for the 2005 year.

Turning into a parking lot on 17 june 2015, my 2005 mazda tribute suddenly gave a loud thump, a tire screech, and stopped.the car would not move under its own power, as the right front wheel was pointed in a different direction than the left one, and it was clear the drive shaft had been pulled out of the transaxle, as the wheel was too far out and almost back against the wheel well. Upon inspection at a repair shop, it was clear the right front subframe had rusted through, causing the lower arm to detach from the chassis. Research indicated that this problem had been the subject of a recall of previous model years.it seems that the rust-through problem with this assembly is still a problem. This is going cost a lot to fix. Not happy. Updated 09/03/15*lj

Entire right (passenger) rear wheel well rusted away, including the shock mount.

The right back side by the tired the chassis is all rust it and the shock is loose i can move it with my hands and the left side is about to get like the other side.

Truck started making a loud noise coming from the rear passenger side. Upon inspection it was discovered that the inner wheel had rusted badly and left shock mount hanging on by a small metal band. Took it to a body shop they said because of the way the vehicle was constructed that it was impossible to fix. I have noticed there was a recall for this vehicle for 2001-2004 models and it appears for the number of complaints about this model on this registry that 2005 should be next.

Updated 06/10/14updated 08/03/15. Updated 09/21/15.updated 09/28/15.

The right rear wheel well has a large hole going through to the lift gate area of the vehicle. It's all rusted out.

Have had vehicle since new in 2005.passenger side rear well severely rusted out, upper portion of shock has become detached from the vehicle frame and mounting bracket disintegrated.shock swaying from being detached and body shops will not touch due to liability issues.vehicle unable to be safely driven.please issue a recall.

While driving loud banging noise from rear of vehicle.right rear inner fender well and shock mount rusted out. Shock mount no longer attached to vehicle.possible suspension collapse if driven.mazda issued a previous recall on models up to 2004.

Just want to add my tribute to the list of 2005 escape, tribute, and mariner right rear wheel well / upper shock mount rusting to failure.

The right rear wheel well rusted out causing the shock to come off on the top. I have contacted mazda and nhtsa to submit claim cases. I was right away turned down by mazda. I am now making a case with nhtsa to hopefully get this issue finally repaired as a recall. We live in a winter state so salt is bad.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving 40 mph, the rear passenger side tire felt like it was flat. The contact had to steer the vehicle in excess to keep it in position. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was corrosion at the forward attachment of the lower control arm. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 115,000.

Vehicle violently swerved from side to side, became unstable.while driving in rainy weather the vehicle became unstable and felt as if was going to roll over.the consumer contacted the manufacturer but ha not received a response.

Loud banging from rear of auto during drive, found that rear passanger sideshock mount and housing completely rusted out. Cannot drive auto as its a safety problem as shock is not attached to anything

Both rear wheel wells rusted out (passenger side much worse) causing shocks to come unmounted. Discovered by hearing thumping noise while driving.

Mazda tribute violently rolled from side to side. *mr the vehicle would become extremely unstable.on another occasion the vehicle nearly rolled over. *sc

Passenger side rear wheel well is extremely rusted out and caused rear shock mount to break causing vehicle to be unsafe to drive.shock mount broke while driving normally on city streets.determined extent of rust damage after this event.the driver side rear wheel well appears to be in much better shape.researching if anything similar has occurred to other people uncovered for me that this issue is consistent with the 2001 to 2004 recall of mazda tributes and should be extended to the 2005 mazda tribute.

Right (passenger) rear wheel well rusted out so that shock is exposed and unattached. Suspension affected to the extent that car is not safe to drive.

The contact was informed that the subframe and shock mounts fractured from excessive corrosion. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 131,000.

Had towed to shop to repair brakes, leak ruined calipers, replace front lines to accept new hoses, etc.$877 to fix.if 18 year old daughter had taken car back to college, 6 hours on interstate, could've been catastrophic!

When the brakes of the consumer's 2005 mazda tribute were applied the vehicle pulled to the left or right.there was a rattle on the right side, the drivers mirror vibrated, the temperature sensor in the auto dimming mirror registered incorrectly, the wiper did not have complete contact with the window and there was a rust spot on the inside lip of the moon roof. *sc

Passenger back wheel carriage is completely rusted out. Suspension is exposed along with shocks. Made loud noises while driving over bumps - i had no idea that my entire wheel carriage was completed rusted. This will cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars to fix. Worst car i have had. Will never ever purchase another mazda. I am amazed and disgusted that mazda has not recalled these cars. What a disgrace to owners of these cars.

Right rear starting making a loud knocking sound, investigated and found shock tower mount was rusted out, and banging into the inner body of the vehicle causing damage. Banging happens when driving.

Upon bringing my 2005 mazda tribute into the mazda service center for unrelated repairs and maintenance, i was informed that the right rear wheel well was heavily rusted and the shock would soon break through the rust and disengage from the vehicle.i contacted mazda corporation to initiate a complaint and investigation.after the customer complaint department investigated the issue (contacting the diagnosing mazda service center), i was informed mazda corporation would not repair my vehicle because this issue was not under a recall, the vehicle warrantee expired, and mazda was unaware of any similar additional consumer complaints.this tribute has 109.000 miles and based on the dealers service center assessment is in immaculate condition: always garage parked, no other rust exists (including the undercarriage) on the vehicle, all maintenance for the past 10 years has been completed by the mazda dealership service center, and this vehicle never incurred body damage (no accidents).as original owners of this vehicle, we initially purchased the corrosion protection and exterior paint sealant (the rustproofing material is still visible within the wheel well). We have been very responsible and loyal mazda original vehicle owners, although after investigating this issue i have discovered hundreds of identical complaints which obviously relates to a manufacturers defect causing a significant safety hazard for unsuspecting drivers of this vehicle.i am appalled that mazda and the nhtsa have not investigated and recalled this vehicle to inform the public of this dangerous defect. It is time to take action and responsibility to reduce the safety hazard for all owners and drivers, especially since mazdas own investigation concluded they were unaware of other complaints.obviously this was not the truth but instead a cover up response to avoid culpability.

The rear passenger side wheel well is completely rusted and the mount is loose attached to nothing. Noticed it while riding down a smooth street when i heard a loud thump. In that moment i thought i left my rear passenger door open. I was lucky i was ridding on the highway.

Inner wheel well rusted cracked leaving shock tower unattached.mazda has issued a recall for this problem on 2001-04 models. The problem persists on the 2005 models as well but there is no recall.

2005 mazda tribute. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle recalls. *tgw

Entire right (passenger) rear wheel well rusted away, including the shock mount.

Went to get my annual inspection and was told that my right rear shock tower is rusted out.

The framework underneath and around the vehicle's rear passenger tire has rotted away, and the shock has penetrated the wheel well. The entire rear of the vehicle "rattles" loudly because of this. It appears that this deficiency was fixed, temporarily, before the sale of the vehicle was pursued.

Caris making a lot of noise and vibration and chatter from the right rear wheel well.i had new shocks put in and he mechanic '":told me the wheel well was rusting out.and i should get it fix as soon as possible!!!!!

While driving on freeway at 70 mph, vehicle swerves violently.drove straight on rain groove surface, nearly roll over. *tc

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute.when proceeding from a stop light the accelerator petal would not depress .after she pulled over to the side of the road, she was able to depress the accelerator pedal.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and the throttle body was repaired at an expense of $ 325.00 dollars. The technician stated that this was a common failure for her model type.the failure mileage was 77000. The current mileage was 78000.

Vehicle was traveling on a four-lane highway with cruise control on.the vehicle suddenly began to accelerate uncontrollably; tried applying the brake, turning off the cruise control, pressing the decelerate button, nothing worked.i had to apply a great deal of force to the brakes in order to slow the vehicle enough to get it off the road.i shifted the transmission into neutral and the engine began to rev uncontrollably.i turned the ignition switch off and opened the hood to investigate.the throttle cable on the cruise control servo had rotated up to about a 30-degree angle and had the throttle held open.i rotated the cable back down to its normal position and the throttle snapped free.i will not use the cruise control again until the issue is resolved. I was traveling at 65 mph when the incident occurred, the vehicle accelerated to over 80 mph while i was trying to get it under control.

2005 mazda tribute gas pedal sticking. Unable to accelerate at times. Almost cause a major traffic accident.

Accelerator got stuck multiple times in cold weather.at stops and signals or turns, after the vehicle is completely stopped accelerator gets stuck. Have to press very hard and some times take 5-10 minutes to move.on 2/4 got stuck one time and on 2/6 stuck 3 times on the road.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal failed and remained in a depressed position when attempting to decelerate. The contact stopped the vehicle and upon restart, it functioned properly. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, but they could not determine the failure because they could not duplicate the problem. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they stated that there were no recalls on the vehicle. No assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 40,000. Updated 8/24/12 updated 09/04/12

Accelerator sticks especially in cool weather.when trying to accelerate from athe gas pedal has to be hit hard causing a sudden acceleration.this is extremely dangerous in wet conditions or in traffic.talked to mazda dealership and this was a problem with 2002 models and a recall was issued.

The gas pedal sticks (up position). Usually when it is cool out, though it has happened in warm temperatures. It happens when my foot has released the gas pedal and presses back onto it to accelerate. It does not go down. Most times i have to slam my foot on it a couple of times before it works (accelerates) but there has been several times that hasn't worked and i have had to let my car coast of to the side of the road. This is very scary! happens several times a day especially when it is cooler outside.

Gas pedal sticks when engine starts up in cold weather and continues to stick until the vehicle is warmed up (30 minutes into driving).causes car to jerk when starting from a stop.acceleration is compromised.

On december 1, 2012 while driving at 58mph around 345pm on the expressway, my foot was on the accelerator with steady pressure, thecar began to slow down. I realized that the car was not maintaining speed. I tried to press down on the accelerator pedal but it did not move. I was able to pull to the side of the road. I then tried with all the force of my leg to press down on the accelerator but with no avail. I tried lifting the pedal with my foot several times and suddenly the pedal freed up. This was on a sunny day, temperature around 60 . I have had this happen several times before on cold mornings on the way to work over the last few years but thought the car was cold and the car had not a chance to warm up. In 2010i filed a complaint.no response. But this time i was truly afraid of getting in a bad car accident and injuring others.i have researched this vehicle and there does not appear to be any recalls for this model. On monday i plan to contact mazda for help before someone gets hurt. I urge you to look more into this make/model year.

I have a 2005 mazda tribute and my accelerator keeps getting stuck. It has been to the dealership numerous times for the same problem but everytime they cant seem to locate the problem.

The gas pedal will get stuck in the up position periodically. It happens more often during the cold seasons. I have had many close calls getting into an accident while making a right turn and on coming traffic is approaching during the time i am trying to accelerate to get on to the lane and my accelerator gets stuck and the car is still slowly moving. I will literally have to continuously stomp on the pedal to get it to go down and once it does it accelerates quickly causing the vehicle to forward. I have taken it in the dealer to see what the issue was and they told me it was due to the carbon build up on the butterfly causing it to get stuck but even after getting the flush out it continued to get stuck while i am driving.i have gone online to see if anyone else has had this issue and sure enough there was.

2005 mazda tribute. The gas pedal sticks when accelerating. This occurs always. Results in lurching of vehicle and possible loss of control.

Car stops accelerating due to gas pedal being stuck.

I own a 2005 mazda tribute and have had numerous incidents with the gas pedal sticking.this happens most often on cold fall mornings.the pedal will stick and not allow me to accelerate, general happening when i've been stopped at a red light, waiting to make a turn, or just as i go to accelerate while traveling straight. It has almost caused several accidents.i have taken the vehicle to the dealership twice without them able to solve the problem.this has happened every fall since 2005 and mazda will not recognize the problem.

While driving our 2005 mazda tribute, most of the time when it is cold outside and other times when it is not, the gas pedal will be so stiff that it will be stuck in the non- accelerated position.my wife or i will have to pounce down on ita couple few times to get it to unfreeze and become operable again.(i'd say this has happened about 30 to 50 times in total since we bought the car brand new off the lot)today, december 1st. 2009, my wife was taking our daughter to school and the pedal froze in the non-accelerated position and she had to pull off the road to call me on her cell phone.i was feeling sick and in bed at the time of her call and got out of bed to go help her.the pedal stayed stuck for about five minutes.she kept putting pressure on it, but it would not come unstuck.when i got there, i pressed down on it and it was released.my wife keeps telling me this is dangerous andthat we need to have it looked at.i have found recall info for these vehicles up to 2004 but not for 2005.will you please do something to help us?we are not alone. I found a website: www.aboutautomobile.com that has nine separate people complaining about the very same mechanical problem for the very same year, make and model. Thank you for hearing me.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving, the liftgate flew open and several grocery items fell onto the street. The contact pulled over and closed the liftgate. The contact drove home without any further issues. In addition, the vehicle surged forward when the contact attempted to slow down. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 149,000.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated the accelerator pedal would stick and the vehicle would not move. As the contact exits her driveaway, the acclerator pedal would stick and the vehicle would be in the road while oncoming traffic was coming towards her. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who ran a diagnostic test but no codes were showing. The delaer stated he could not make repairs with the diagnostic showing a failure.the manufacturer was contacted who stated she should take the vehicle back to the dealer and they would run a second diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage 82,000.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated while driving approximate 15 mph, the accelerator pedal failed to engage and the contact had to tap the accelerator pedal four times for it to operate. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The technician was unable to locate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

In august 2004, i purchased a 2005 brand new mazda tribute suv. At the end of 2005, i started having trouble with my accelerator sticking. I took it to the dealer for repair and assumed that this problem would never occur again. But, to my dismay, it seems to occur every year, especially when the cold weather arrives.i have taken it to the dealer several times for repair and i was told that i would need to come back within a certain amount of miles to have the throttle cleaned so the accelerator will not stick. Also, was told that this problem occurs with these type of vehicles. The throttle gets grime and gump in it and that's what causes the sticking. Recently, on last friday, it began to stick again when i was driving into my neighborhood i could not get up on my driveway. I had to coast it along the side of the street and park it. Whenever this occurs, i cannot press on the accelerator at all, it will not budge and my car tends to lose power and begins to slow down. On sunday evening, i was on the interstate when it occurred, very scary, i coast over into the right hand lane and over to the shoulder of the road, so i would not be hit from behind. On monday morning, on my way to work, i was at a stop light and when i went to pull off after the light turned green, it would not move. This is so ridiculous, as i have to go to the dealer each time and pay for something that should have been a recall. I don't know if others have complained about this or not, but i decided to because i am afraid for my safety as well as others. This is very dangerous.

I have a 2005 mazda tribute, i am the second owner bought from a buy here pay here dealer... When i accelerate its gets stuck and i have to kick the pedal down hard to get it going. This happens approx. 80% of the time.

My rear seatbelts do not work.vehicle turnsoffwhile on highway. The vehicle airbag buttle says no airbags in car.the car jumps when reaching 50 mph

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle hesitated, accelerated at a rapid pace, and then decelerated. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 122,940.

Gas pedal sticks in the up-position.no matter how hard i step on the gas pedal, it will not unjam until it's ready to.this has happened over 50 times, but the worst was yesterday when it happened in the middle of heavy traffic.i was almost stopped by the time the accelerator became unstuck, and the pressure i was applying caused the vehicle to jump forward, squealing the tires.unnerving and dangerous!

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

When driving in cold weather, the accelerator will not press down. If you stop at a red light or slow down for traffic and try to accelerate, you can't press the accelerator down to get speed.it is stuck and won't press down. You have to keep pressing on it hard which results in the car taking off real fast and jerking everyone in it or causing traffic behind you to run into you because your vehicle will not accelerate. I've been reporting this problem since i've had this automobile in 2005. There are several hundred complaints on the internet with the same problem. I guess someone will have to be killed or seriously injured before something is done.

2005 mazda tribute gas pedal sticks, norhyme nor reason......circumstances are never the same, so it is scary when it happens. I press the gas and think that the tribute is going to move, and nothing happens. Thankfully, i've never been hit! ( yet) .dealer repair shop was of no help.click automotive ( where i bought the vehicle ) , tells me to" bring it in when it's happening" .stomping on the pedal doesn't cure it, it resumes working when it feels like it. I try shifting from gear to gear........reverse, neutral etc.then all of a sudden it resumes working like nothing happened.this has been going on for the last 3 years at least.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute i. The contact stated that when trying to accelerate after a stop the accelerator pedal became difficult to depress. The dealer was contacted and they advised her that she would have to bring the vehicle in for diagnosis. The manufacturer was later contacted and they offered no assistance. The vehicle has not been inspected by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000. The current mileage was approximately 93,000. The vin was unavailable.

When apply full or almost full pressure to the gas peddle the throttle sticks causing the car to speed forward and the brakes do not engage fully to stop the vehical. Thhis happened 3 times so far. I had use the emergency brake. I had the recall repair done this occured after it was done. They did something to the engine cover but later had it removed because i thought that was still it. But even without the engine on the car the throttle still sticks. Dealership says it does not know why i am having the problem.

I own a 2005 mazda tribute.when proceeding from a stop, the accelerator pedal will not depress.i have to coast to the side of the road.no matter how hard i stomped on the accelerator, it would not depress.this happens all the time especially in cold weather.i see where there was a recall for the same problem on 2004 models.please issue a recall on the 2005 to prevent accidents and possible death.

Gas pedal sticks.can't be pressed down.

Accelerator pedal on 2005 mazda tribute sticks in the up (non-accelerating) position.takes a significant amount of force to accelerate, causing car to spin tires and jerk forward.usually occurs in cold and wet weather, but has occurred during warm weather as well.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. She applied pressure on the accelerator pedal between10-15 mph to leave a stop sign. The vehicle would not accelerate, until she exerted a great amount of force to the accelerator pedal.the failure occurred on ten separate occasions.the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer forinspection.the vehicle was in the process of being repaired for the failure.the failure mileage was 39,000.the vin number was unavailable.

Gas pedallocking up at various speeds in traffic.4 near missesofacatastrophicevents !!!we have contactedmazda inconroetexas . We were informed that our vin # was not included in there recall on this problem with the newer models are having.......this is the same problem as the new one !!!!!! so whats the problem ? i nearly was killed at one the events !!! had to pull over due the pedal would not move and another driver not paying attentionnearly missed hitting me on the shoulder of the highway !i was outside of my car at that point trying figure out why it wasn't working ( 09/12/2014).

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond.the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

My gas pedal sticks. I cannot press it down to accelerate. It seems to only do it when its colder out. I've almost been in numerous accidents because i go to pull out onto the road from a stop and cannot go faster than idle speed. Almost every day that its colder out it sticks. Until last week i owned a 4x4 that i drove in the winter so getting the mazda in to the shop was always on the backburner and mostly forgotten. The mazda was driven mostly in the warmer months. I received recall notices in the mail and was told by a car salesman it was for my issue so so l was never in a hurry to get it in. Come to find out the recall is for the 04 tribute's speed control cable issue and now my warranty is up. So nothing was ever done about it.

I have a 2005 mazda tribute that the gas pedal sticks on.i have had this problem fixed twice and it is recurring.it is a big safety risk because you never know when it is going to stick.it typically starts out only happening in the morning but it progresses to any time throughout the day.you may be driving and stop or decelerate and then when you start to go you cant because the gas pedal is stuck.and it will take multiple tries of pressing it before it will go.i don't know what to do.i know i will take it back to the dealership they will fix it and charge me and then in a few months the problem will reoccur.please advise me on what to do.i also have a problem with the metal interior of the seat protruding under the fabric of the seat.

I have been experiencing problems with my 2005 mazda tribute.the accelerator will be depressed and the car doesn't move.then it will suddenly lunge forward.other times, i press the accelerator and there is a jerk as the car once again lunges forward.yesterday while on the highway, the car suddenly accelerated momentarily.this problem has been listed on the internet many times but it seems that someone will have to have an accident or die before there is a recall.it doesn't appear to be a new problem as they recalled earlier models than 2005 for what looks like the same problem. This happens intermittently and sometimes there are days between episodes.up until this occurrence, the tribute has been a wonderful car.this, however, brings memories of toyota.please investigate before someone gets injured or killed.

My 2005 tribute has had gas pedal problems in the past.it was serviced for this in 2008 however when the weather is cold the gas pedal is still stiff and i have to stomp on it to get it to go.yesterday however was a different story.i headed to work with my baby in the car.about 3 miles down the road on a hwy going 60 mph i let off the gas to slow down and my car did not slow!i stomped the break and it hardly made a difference.i went for 3 or 4 miles not pressing the gas and continued to fly down the road at 60 mph! i tried to kick the gas and it didn't help.i finally took both of my feet and stood on the break while trying not to get rear ended and pulled off on the exit ramp still going 15-20 mph!i had to turn the key off to get my car to stop!my husband was near by and said that my car was idling at 3rpms!if this had happened in different circumstances....i don't even want to think about that!please pay attention to all of the same complaints on this website!if this had been addressed earlier my baby and i would not have had to go threw that! does someone have to die before anyone does anything?

Gas pedal sticks. You have to press or stomp hard in order to get the pedal unstuck. This isbad and could cause an accident. Will be taking in to have it checked out. Read other reports of this says it may be carbon build up. Not sure but something needs to be down if this is a wide spread problem.

Cruise, blake pedal hard to press when cruise is on.air bag lite on 99 percent of the time

Gas pedal sticking and difficult to depress. Pedal/throttle body, "sticks" so that you must apply more and more pressure to the gas pedal until it "breaks free" and starts to accelerate the vehicle. This can cause the vehicle to lunge forward (or backward if in reverse). More of a nuisance at moment, but has become progressively worse in last month.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that while waiting at a stop sign, the vehicle would hesitate and not accelerate. It also hesitated when decelerating and trying to accelerate again. The vehicle was inspected by the dealer who informed the contact that she needed to replace the throttle body and the accelerator cable. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

We purchased this vehicle new and about 5 times over the history of owning this vehicle, the gas peddle stuck and on the last most recent event the car got stuck at a high rate of speed on the freeway and it could not be slowed by pulling the pedal up with foot.thank god there were no vehicles around or slowing traffic ahead.mazda issued a recall #94751 - vehicle speed control: cables but when we took the car into the nearest mazda dealership we were told that our vehicle's vin is not covered by this recall as it supposedly does not have the "defective part(s) installed."yet the summary of the recall description notes that it is a design/installation flaw with the vehicle i.e. "inadequate clearance between the engine cover and speed control cable connector" resulting in a stuck throttle.mazda won't stand behind their vehicle now and want us to pay to have it serviced/diagnosed/fixed?!also i had previously taken this car to the dealership twice in the past when this happened and they could not find anything wrong with it.mazda needs to do a more in-depth investigation of this very dangerous situation and design/parts flaw and issue a more extensive recall on their 2005 mazda tributes.note our model is a 2.3l, 4 cylinder engine and their recall only covers the 3.0l v6 engine.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that the throttle failed, causing the vehicle to abnormally accelerate. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by removing the keys from the ignition. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection and they stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in nhtsa campaign id number: 12v357000 (vehicle speed control:cables). The failure mileage was 74,000.

I received this car from my deceased parents about 3 years ago. There has been numerous occasions that my gas pedal has stuck either while i'm stopped and try to go or if i am shifting gears. This is very dangerous if my gas pedal is sticking. It happened 3 times september 14, 2013 within a 10 min period on the drive out to my son's soccer game. I have 2 stop signs and 4 stop lights between that area and the gas pedal stuck at one light and both stop signs. On other occasions my cruise control has revved up when trying to turn it off and it has also just gotten stuck. That could be very dangerous when trying to slow down for traffic ahead.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While drivingapproximately 55 mph the accelerator pedal became stuck causing the vehicle to decelerate. The contact activated his emergency lights and was able to stop the vehicle on the emergency lane.after restarting the vehicle, the accelerator pedal functioned normally. The contact stated the failureoccurred intermittently during cold or rainy weather. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 25.

I have read over 200 complaints of mazda tribute 2005 gas pedal sticking and can not be depressed. I have had this problem on several occasions where i will stop at a light or stop sign and will try to depress my gas pedal and it will not move. I have almost been reared ended several times because of this. I have also issued a complaint to nhtsa before in regards to this.

I was driving at 50 mph and the gas peddle stuck, i was unable to accelerate, i had to slowly brake. It happened about 3 times, i took the 2005 tribute to the dealer where they were unable to find out why this was happening, but did tell me they had never heard of this before. Thank god my children were not with me.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute i. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerated without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 145,000.

I have had problems in the past where my gas pedal gets stuck.it's almost as if there is something lodged beneath the pedal, but the floor area is clear and free from any clutter. I have also noticed that this problem occurs once the weather changes; as soon as winter season starts is when i have this problem. I had it taken to a local mechanic shop and was told that there was a carbon build-up that needed to be cleaned out. The mechanic stated the carbon build-up was not allowing the throttle plate/flap to open and close like it should which was causing the gas pedal to stick.this can lead to a very dangerous or life-threatening car accident. This has happened for the past two years and is now starting up again. The only other complaint other than this is that the vehicle makes for a very noisy ride on the highway; i hear all outside noises such as the wind and bumps on the road.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute 1. The contact stated that while accelerating slowly, the accelerator pedal became stuck to the floorboard. The contact had to apply the brake and depress the accelerator pedal simultaneously in order for the pedal to release. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired.the failure and the current mileage was 69,000.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving approximately 40 mph, the contact depressed the accelerator pedal and noticed that the pedal had become stuck. The contact continued to depress the pedal until it released. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnostic. The technician wasunable to diagnose the failure and greased the accelerator pedal. There was an investigation open under nhtsa action number: pe12019 (vehicle speed control:cruise control vehicle speed control:cables) that could have been related to the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

The 2005 mazda tribute freezes the accelerator often, especially in winter. The pedal freezes while the vehicle is in motion and when the leg from the accelerator pedal is removed and wants to accelerate the vehicle again. Sometimes it is littlehard to push the accelerator (the accelerator resists) when the vehicle in motion.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that the throttle would become stuck when the accelerator pedal was fully or partially fully depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but the dealer refused to inspect the failure. The manufacturer was notified and stated that there were no recalls for the vehicle and offered no further assistance. The failure mileage was 93,424.

I have a 2005 mazda tribute that for some reason the gas pedal gets stuck, it seems to do this when the weather changes from hot to cold?

During the winter after the purchase of my new mazda tribute, the gas pedal was sticking-i could not push the pedal down it was sticking so bad.i talked to the dealership and they told me it was carbon build up.they did clean it for me.it stuck last winter too.now the gas pedal is sticking more than ever and they are telling me i need a whole new gas pedal assembly and estimated the cost at $191.00.i told them that this has been an ongoing problem and that someone is going to be killed over it.i have a 14 month old daughter and i am afraid to drive this vehicle.they told me they were not aware of any gas pedals sticking and it would not be covered under warranty.i then researched the sticking gas pedal and found out that it is a very wide spread problem.

My accelerator gets stuck frequently.this is dangerous and there is no way this could be my fault.it has gotten stuck on several occasions since november of 2008.on aseparate note:my brake booster failed (twice) in two years.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, she attempted to depress the accelerator pedal but it seized and prevented her from accelerating. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000 and the current mileage was 84,397.

After reading other similar complaints, i felt compelled to address this issue with the gas pedal.it seems mazda has been aware of this problem for many years, yet no recall.the gas pedal sticks in weather colder than 50 degrees.for an all-terrain vehicle (suv) which is made to go off-road and in mountains, this is a pretty serious safety issue.when i conferred with my local mazda dealer, they wanted to charge me $400 for parts and labor to "replace" a faulty mechanism.i feel i shouldn't have to pay for something which is inherent with these tribute vehicles and for which mazda is fully aware.

The gas pedal on my 2005 mazda tribute frequently locks up/ jams in place.this is a huge safety issue.it locks in the up position and will not release with any amount of pressure- sometime if i pull up on the pedal and then try to press back down, it will release, but not always.the pedal stays in the up position and will not do anything- the car cannot go leaving me stranded until it unlocks.two times now it has locked up for an extended period of time (more than a few minutes) while i was out on the road.luckily each time this happened i was able to get over, and it was not at a busy time of the day.nothing will unlock the pedal when it jams- pressing on it as hard as i can, trying gently, or turning the car off and back on.i have just had to wait for it to release.i have found a lot of other people are having the same problem and cannot believe no one has been killed because of this- it is a huge safety issue if this were to happen in traffic, an intersection, or on the highway- the car will not move, and the driver is powerlessto do anything!i took it to the dealer and they said it needs a total throttle assembly replacement- but based on other people testimonials this will not solve the problem- multiple people have said they have had this replacement and it still locks in place, so i am wary to spend $400 for something that will not work.if this were to happen out on the road it could have potentially life threatening consequences- being unable to move your vehicle because the gas pedal is jammed is a very unnerving experience.

The gas pedal wont depress in cold weather. Generally any temperature close to or below freezing. The first incident was shortly after i purchased the vehicle in 2009.i took it back to the mazda dealer but they could not find anything wrong.their remedy was to grease and lubricate the pedal assembly.this did not remedy the situation and the problem has been continuous every winter. I find that if i warm the car up sufficiently after the car has been parked for an extended period of time, the pedal does not stick.but this evening, november 17, 2012, it became stuck while i was driving and the car was warm.luckily, i was able to pull into a parking lot and not get rear ended for suddenly slowing down and not being able to accelerate. Hoping for a recall very soon.

Mazda tribute 05. Gas pedal gotstuck in the up position as i was turning in an intersection. Luckily no cars coming parked on the grass. This happened 2xs.dealership just stated it needed a 150.00 throttle housing lubrication. Did not have it done due to it was not covered on the warranty. After this time it happened 2 more time tome andjust 2 days ago it happened to my husband with our kids in the car. Luckily again no accident.

Gas pedal sticking or freezing while driving. Occurs when cold or raining. Had repaired one time but is happening again.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute.the contact stated that the accelerator pedal randomly locks in place.she literally has to stomp on the pedal to get it to release.the failure has progressively worsened and she has to make 4 or 5 attempts to release the accelerator pedal.the weather and driving speed were not factors.the pedal was repaired, but began sticking again weeks later.the dealer was unable to duplicate the intermittent failure.the vin, engine size, and purchase date were unknown.the current mileage was 53,000 and failure mileage was 100.

I own a 2005 mazda tribute with approximately 20,000 miles.for the past 6-8 months i have had issues with the gas pedal sticking.it is really random, so cannot pinpoint why or what conditions it happens.at first i just thought i wasn't pressing hard enough on the pedal, but it is happening more often and to the point where i actually have to slam it with my foot to make the car move.i transport children in my car and this is extremely dangerous.this morning i was making a turn and when i went to accelerate the car would not move.there was a car behind me which thankfully did not hit me, but it could have easily.when the gas pedal finally reacted the car accelerated very fast.after reading all the other complaints about this issue i think it seriously warrants being looked into further and having a recall notice issued.i do not feel safe anymore driving this vehicle since i cannot predict when or where the gas pedal will fail to respond.for a car with so few miles on it, and me being the original owner, i feel this is totally unacceptable and would be irresponsible of mazda to not take notice.after my latest incident, and reading all the other complaints regarding the same issue, i will be taking my vehicle in for inspection with mazda and hope this will be resolved.

My gas pedal sticks when going from a dead stop, causing the car to accelerate to fast.this happens mostly when it is cold but has been reoccuring more frequently.it is very dangerous when driving in the snow and ice.

Accelerator pedal began sticking.i could not raise the pedal up or press it down.suddenly, car would take off.this happens at any time during driving.i have taken the car back to dealership twice for the same problem, all within 6 months time.i feel this is a safety issue with the vehicle.i was told it was carbon build up on the throttle body.i feel it is an issue with the tribute, other cars do not have this issue. All they did was clean the throttle body both times.they also said it was not covered under warranty although they did not charge me for the work done.i am leary about driving my car since i never know when it will start sticking again.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving approximately 60 mph on the freeway the accelerator pedal became stuck and the contact almost drove onto a curb. She was able to slow the vehicle down; however, when she engaged the accelerator pedal, it failed to engage. The driver pumped the brake pedal and was then able to engage the accelerator pedal. The failure occurred more than 20 times. The failure recurred when she was driving 35 mph. When she tried to apply the brake pedal it didn't correct the failure. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 65,020.

The gas pedal on my 2005 mazda tribute sticks. I can not figure out a reason for this, or what causes it to do it. Sometimes it sticks when trying to take off from a red light, sometimes it is if i am trying to accelerate out of a turn and sometimes it is just a basic attempt to accelerate going straight. I do notice though that if i already am accelerating and i push my foot onto the pedal more it will not stick, it only sticks when i have taken my foot completely off the accelerator, then try to push down on the pedal.

I purchased the 2005 mazda tribute in dec '04.within one month, the gas pedal would stick in the up position and it would take significant effort to unlock the pedal, causing the vehicle to lurch forward.i took it in to have it looked at *still under warranty* and was told there was nothing wrong.however, it has continued to be a serious problem ever since.i've brought it back several times to the same dealership (royal moore mazda) and they tell me every time that they don't have any record of repairs (since they said they never found anything to begin with) and that they still can't find a problem.the issue is getting worse.i've been doing research and find hundreds of other mazda tribute owners having the exact same problem. At what point does this become a recall issue?i've narrowly missed being rear ended many times due to the gas pedal being stuck in place.and the only way to unlock it is to "stomp" on it.we need assistance before people die - if they haven't already and therefore haven't been able to tell anyone about why they died.this is a serious problem and it is getting significantly worse.the dealerships constantly deny there is a problem, and i honestly believe it's due to the bigger issue of all mazda tribute owners having the same issue.

I was stopped at a light behind a car andwhen the light changed i took my foot off the brake and the car took off out of control and smashed into the car ahead of me. The car was racing and i believe the gas pedal was stuck.i just wanted to add that mazda customer service was of no help to me.

*sc

Driver power window failure. No cause or related event trigger. Other windows continue operating normally. Consequence: potential deathtrap.

Right rear frame has rusted out enough to cause brake and shock issues causing a perfectly good vehicle to become unsafe and dangerous for my family and others. The shock and brake line broke and the vehicle slid to a stop.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact discovered that passenger's rear wheel housing had completely rusted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving 65 mph, the contact heard an abnormal banging/clacking noise and the vehicle swayed. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer (kings ford inc., 9555 kings auto mall rd, cincinnati, ohio 45249) where it was diagnosed that the wheel well on the rear passenger side was rusted and referred the contact to a body shop. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the issue and did not assist. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 157,000.

The right back side by the tired the chassis is all rust it and the shock is loose i can move it with my hands and the left side is about to get like the other side.

The contact stated that there was rust accumulation on the rear passenger side wheel well. The contact associated the failure with nhtsa campaign number: 14v174000 (structure: frame and members), which was related to the 2001-2004 models. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 200,000.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. While driving at approximately 60 mph, there was a loud abnormal noise coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the entire wheel well was rusted and needed to be re-welded and restructured.the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

The contact owns a 2005 mazda tribute. The contact stated that the passenger's side rear wheel well and shocks were corroded due to corrosion, which also became fractured. The vehicle could not be driven.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for further inspection. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage were 121,000.
