I was trying to start my "new" used mazda mpv using ether sprayed into the air filter-box through a small hole, and my driver's-side -impact airbag went off when i turned the ignition key.i was parked in my driveway at the time.i had been trying to start the car for several minutes, and had sprayed "starting fluid" into the box one other time several minutes before.this process had worked for me two times in the past with no problem.the starting fluid was sprayed through a 1/4" hole i had drilled on the upstream side of the air filter, because i was having starting problems and it is difficult to open the filter box in this car.i inspected the filter box for signs of an explosion inside, thinking that might have triggered the airbag, and it was intact; the retaining clips are not distorted, and the filter (brand new) was not displaced or damaged in any way.i do not believe this had anything to do with the deployment, but i mention it for the sake of completeness; i think that the particular sequence of key cycles i used in trying to start the car somehow triggered the airbag.

Drivers side seat airbag inflated for no reason at all. Emergency care was required. Caused a cracked rib and severe pan.

Approximately six blocks from his home, the owner of a 2000 mazda mpv minivan was in the left turn lane of a highway waiting to turn left. While stopped and with no impact, the side airbags spontaneously deployed from both sides of the vehicle striking the driver. There were two children seated in the rear. As represented in the attached photographs, there is no body damage to the vehicle. This airbag deployment caused severe injuries to the driver and necessitated his transport via air ambulance to a level one trauma center. These injuries necessitated surgery to repair a lacerated spleen and ultimately resulted in $88,537.00 in medical bills. The claim was presented to mazda, however north carolina's statute of repose would have likely prevented a successful suit. Mazda, however, did condition a confidential settlement offer to the driver of the vehicle on the destruction of the vehicle. Plaintiff requested that proper notification be made to nhtsa and no reassurance was given that such report was made. In light of the injuries to the driver and the demand made by mazda to destroy the vehicle, the driver, by counsel, considers notification to nhtsa appropriate. Claimant will not engage in spoliation of the vehicle until nhtsa determines if examination or investigation is necessary. The vehicle is available for inspection and will be until notification from nhtsa is received by the undersigned.

I got into my car and place my seat belts on. I shifted the car in reverse gear and started reversing for 3 seconds and without any impact or collision to the car, the side airbags deployed and exploded on my whole left chest wall, arm and shoulder throwing me to the right. I was in shock and didn't realized what happen. I sought medical attention 3 times at the hospital and went to make a complaint to the mazda dealer where i purchase the car at and check a car fax report on the history of the car. There are no reported accidents on the car or airbag recall letters sent to me or on the recall list. The dealer wouldn't do anything about it and i was dissatisfied and then i called the corporate manufacturers and they would not do anything about it either because even though it's a takata airbag that particular takata airbag is not on their recall list.

Air bag warning light on instrument panel came on and stays on intermittently flashing.

Mazda mvp 2000 mini van airbags did not deploy when the consumer hit another vehicle.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at 35 mph.upon imapct, airbags did not deploy, resulting in injury.vehiclewas totalled. Manufacturer has been notified.

While sitting in passenger's seat charge went off, blew passenger's seat up, and air bag did not deploy. Please provide any further information.

The vehicle was involved in a collision, and the air bags failed to deploy.

While driving on a rural route came to a stop and was struck from behind by a dodge ram, travelling 60mph which hit the rear hatchdoor and flew open.neither airbag deployed.contacted dealer and manufacturer.

Front airbags did not work at all.back right seatbelt shoulder harness did not work.vehicle was hit from behind and then pushed into another vehicle that was in front. The vehicle that hit my van was traveling at approximately 40 miles per hour when my vehicle was hit my daughter who was sitting in the 3rd row seat wearing a lap/shoulderbelt flew forward enough to hit her head and face on the back of the second row seat.it seems that the shoulder part of the seatbelt did not lock at all during impact which allowed her that much movement.in addition, the passenger and drivers side airbags did not deploy during the frontal impact when my vehicle was pushed into the vehicle in front of me which pushed the whole front of the van into the engine compartment.

While travling at about 50 mph and while making a u-turn consumer was hit on the side ofvehicle.vehicle was equipped with side air bags, but they did not deploy.contacted dealer.

Driver's airbag failed to deploy in crash.

Since we purchased the vehicle, we have had a problems keeping our 2-year old's car seat secured properly.the seatbelts in the middle seats and rear seat will not tighten and/or loosen after buckling, causing the car seat to shift and move easily.i felt we must be doing something wrong and finally had an opportunity to return it to the dealer.after over and hour and throught the efforts of a service advisor and a lead service technician, it was determined there must be some sort of design flaw in the seatbelt which prevented the belts from locking properly.they also did not feel that installing a tether would remedy the problem to an appropriate degree of safety.they also called mazda headquarters who informed them that yes, there is a design flaw in the seatbelts but they don't have a resolution at this time and they don't know when they will.the service advisors only recommendation to me is that i find another car seat that might work with these seats.unfortunately, there are none.thus, each time my family and i ride in the car, my 2-year old's life is at stake since we cannot safely install a car seat within this vehicle.please provide me any information you can on seeking remedy to this problem.we will anxiously await your response.

Seat belt buckle in 2nd row is designed so that it is forward of seat crack and cannot move to a completely upright position. This causes major movement/isecure belting of a child convertible booster seat, especially front-to-back movement. This movement occurs even with the tether anchor strap installed. We complained to mazda and wanted the seat belt buckles replaced (to match the redesigned and workable seat belts in the 2001 models) or the entire seat replaced with the 2001 seats. So far, we have had little success getting any feedback from mazda. Additionally, once we began pursuing this weith mazda, threee different people within the company have informed us that no child seats of any kind are to be used in the 2nd row of the 2000 mpvs. However, they went ahead and installed a tether anchor mounting kit behind the second row (as they have done for many other customers too). Doesn't that imply that you could use child seats in the second row? if you truly cannot install child seats in the 2nd row of the 2000 mpvs, then an entire year's worth of mpvs were sold under false pretenses as most minivan owners have small children and belt their car seats in the second row. Also, the 2000 mpv user manual illustrates putting child seats int he 2nd row -- contradicting what we have been told repeatedly by mazda. We are very concerned that a major vehicle manufacturer can sell minivans which apparently are not designed for safe use of car seats in the 2nd row. Probably many uninformed mpv owners currently have their child seats in the 2nd row. We had hoped that mazda would take a proactive stance on this issue, but what we have mostly heard is, "child seats must be installed in the 3rd row only and cannot be installed in the 2nd row." please investigate how mazda is able to sell these vehicles without first informing the consumer of this issue, and investigate mazda's unwillingness to investigate fixing this issue.

All of a sudden 200 mazda mpv es on fire on march 1, /2008 around 8:45pm when the car was on the parking lot.

The2000 mazda mpv lx with 51,300 miles spontaneously caught on fire ,and the front half of the car was incinerated on may 11, 2007.i had driven the car approximately 15 miles back to my house, when i went inside to get a drink of water andcame back out there was a burning, viscous substance dripping from underneath the engine.the engine quickly burst into flames, sending billows of smoke toward the front of my house.the fire department came and put out the flames, but not before the car was totaled. Thedriveway scorched, andgarage door damaged.i presumed that the engine was on fire while i was driving on the highway, so i felt very lucky to be alive.also, ifi hadn't parked the car inthegarage the flames surely would have set fire to the house.

While driving and without warning the vehicle experienced electrical problems.*nlm

Passenger side door lock actuator broke in 2004 now drivers side door lock actuator broken.as a result the door can be stuck open (while driving) or be unable to be unlocked so people can't get out of the car in case of emergency.see this web site with several others having this problem:http://www.mpvclub.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7161&highlight=actuator.

The contact owns a 2000 mazda mpv.upon purchasing the vehicle, the contact noticed that it was not leveled and was leaning towards the passenger side.the vehicle would also pull towards the right while driving more than 25 mph.between 60-70 mph, the vehicle would vibrate violently and could be felt when holding the steering wheel.in addition, the passenger side door, cd player, and lighter all failed.the rearview mirror became foggy and needed to be replaced, as well as the lower ball bearings.the liftgate failed and the trunk would fall down on top of her.the manufacturer was notified, but there were no recalls for her vin that pertained to the failures.the contact found several technical service bulletins regarding these failures; however, the manufacturer would not take any responsibility for repairing the vehicle.the failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 53,000.

Engine light stays on after being reset 3 timesand after sensor was replaced.

My 2000 mps's driver door window no longer rolls down.a neighbor who also has a mpv van is having the same problem. Coincidence, probably not for a 5 year old car. Of course it happens after the warranty has expired.

- the contact owns a 2000 mazda mpv.the contact's cigarette lighter didn't work properly, it currently was not working . The passenger door locks did not unlock without the contact manually unlocking them or using the key.there were no warning indicators for the failures.while driving 50 mph the vehicle began making a loud roaring noise, it began to shake and appeared to lose power, but never stalled. The contact restarted the vehicle and the failure recurred. The current and failure mileage were 44000.

Updated 09/10/08.*ljthe consumer stated the vehicle also had a coolant leak. The key would not come out of the ignition. The problem was due to the alternator draining the battery. Updated 09/12/08.

Consumer states having trouble starting vehicle, the vehicle was taken in for inspection and consumer was told that the ignition wires had been gnawed by a rodent and that the repair was not covered under warranty, the vehicle design allows for entry of outside rodents and cause damage to wiring.

While driving on the freeway the van suddenly lost power to the wheels, even though the engine was still running. Had it towed to a mazda dealer who reported that the thrust bearing in the crankshaft had broken. The entire engine had to be replaced.

We have a 2000 mazda mpv van. My wife said that the engine was making a loud roaring noise. I found a mazda mpv site that indicated as "subject"-fog horn/moaning noise from engine compartment...which may occur when engine is half-warmed up or in deceleration. Site calls for iac valve with a modified part to be repaired. I asked the mazda dealership about a possible recall. They were quick, and i mean quick to say that there are none. I mentioned that there are two other recalls documented on the consumer reports website. One about a possible failing child-lock on the door and another one that could result in a possible fuel leak and subsequent fire. How can mazda be so quick to say that there are no recalls? they did not even ask for my vehicles vin number. Believe me, the small cost for mazda to correct this problem will pale in comparison to my child falling out of the vehicle due to failing child locks or to a fire caused by leaking fuel.

In the operation of my 2000 mazda mpv there is a loud humming noise that emits from engine compartment and when making turns engine shuts down periodically thus resulting in failure to operate.

While driving engine pulley fell off, causing consumer to lose control of vehicle.bolt that helditin place broke off. Contacted dealer.

The check engine light illuminated on the dashboard while driving. The dealer determined that the oil pump failed and needed to replaced.

On 3/9/02, left home to head for bank. About 2 minutes/3 streets down, car was smoking and blackish oil was gushing from all around hood area. Car broke down and could not re-start.fire/sheriff dept came and car was towed to oak tree mazda where car was serviced on 1/29/02. On 3/11/02 peter potman of oak tree mazda called and told me engine oil was mixed with coolant due to oil pump failure. Engine lock is cracked and had to replace with new engine. 10 days later on 3/21/02. Peter called and said car was ready to pick-up.they tested everthing and car was "wonderful". I pick up car 2:30 pm and headed home and at 4:00 left home to go to bank before pick up daughter from school. Within minutes car was smoking again and smell like it was burning. Called peter agai and he sent for the tow truck to tow it back to them. Next day on 3/22/02, peter told me they could find no new oil leakage. Smoking/burning came "possibly" from residue oil from previous (3/9/02) incident. They'd try to detail clean engine again to make sure no more residue oil is left to burn. N 3/25/02, peter offered to drive my car home (60 miles one way) and back the next morning (120 miles round trip) to make sure. I said ok and on 3./26/02, peter called and said he wasn't comfortable with giving me car back as he could smell burning oil from inside of the car as the he was driving. He'd drive my car home again 3/26/02 evening and would let me know tomorrow (3/27/02). I've communicated with mazda's daren (x1179) several times re my concerns about safety because twice the car began smoking/steaming with no warning lights on whatsoever.nlm

An open seam in the consumer's 2000 mazda mpv's front exhaust manifold allowed exhaust fumes to enter the vehicle.the consumer's child had a severe asthma attack as a result of this failure.

I purchased an mazda mpv in 2007 from a chevy dealership who said it was in good working condition. It was a 2000 model. As soon as winter came the o2 sensor on the rear bank went out. Paid $400.00 to the dealership to replace. It lasted only a short time. The dealership told me it should last 100.000 miles, so they replaced it and only charged me another $400.00. To date i have had the o2 sensor replaced a total of four times. The last two times it was at a mazda dealership. They also told me it should last 100,000 miles. But every time it gets below 40 deg f, it fails, or at least the warning light comes on. I have spent a total of $1,200.00 in replacing the sensor. I keep doing it because my wife uses it to drive our granddaughter to dance classand i don't want them to get stranded on the road way. I have already lost my aunt's daughter to a road side killer and don't want it to happen once more.

Consumer statesa very bad smell comes from the vent causing the driver and passengers to become nauseous. Please provide any additional information.

Good morning .my muffler system sounds like an airplane. Please assist me with this problem as i might have recalls for this vehicle.

At any speed or driving conditions vehicle emits sulfur odor, ie rotten egg smell, into cabin. Smells like somebody farted.

Carbon monoxide entering the passenger compartment. Horrific odors. Dealer states do not drive vehicle on short trips and refuses correction of identified issue.

Consumer states there is a sulfur smell in the cab of vehicle.mechanic states that the way the catalytic converter is burning the gas is causing the smell.mechanic is aware of problem. Please provide any further information. Ph

2000 mpv catalytic converter needed to be replaced.the consumer stated while she was waiting for the parts for the catalytic converter to arrive at the dealer, she and her husband experienced sudden acceleration. The vehicle idled high and for several minutes the consumer was unable to slow the vehicle down, but it continued to idle over 4000 rpm. After many attempts to get the vehicle to slow down, the consumer was able to pull the vehicle over to the side of the road and shut it off.the dealer was unable to recreate or diagnose the problem. The dealer decided to lower the idle. The problem did recur for a second time.

While driving at any speed, the check engine light would come on and a strong sulfur odor would entered the vehicle.a mechanic diagnosed the problem as a bad catalytic converter.

In september 2003, 2000 mazda mpv van (approx 80k miles) would not pass emissions although check engine light was not on.was told the van's obd system could not communicate with state's equipement.was issued waiver.one month later, check engine light came on and o2 sensor was replace per recommendation.four days later, light came back on.since then, light has intermittently gone on and off with noone being able to diagnose the issue.a strong odor has come into the passenger area and the van has run rough.finally, it was diagnosed as having a cracked exhaust manifold. There is no reason a 3 1/2 - 5 year old van should have a cracked manifold.unfortunately, there are thousands of people suffering from the same issue as noted on every mazda message board.the part cannot be purchased aftermarket or even used, because they are all cracked.i have also been told by other garages the welding suggested at the dealer's shop is ineffective and will not solve the leak. The dealer is unwilling to help because the van out of the warranty period. I am wondering how many manifold failures there have to be, which affects our air quality and cannot pass federal emissions, before there is a recall issued for an obviously defective part.

Van started running rough at stoplights and at low speed.check engine light came on a day later.mechanic told us that the left exhaust manifold was cracked and needed to be replaced.this failure causes a co leak into the passenger cabin.mechanic said this should not happen on an engine with 83,000 miles.

Had a 2000 mazda mpv with 68,000 miles on it.all was well until my check engine light came on.a noise and fuel smell followed soon after.the van was diagnosed at the mazda dealership as having bad or cracked manifolds.i was told that the cost would exceed the value and it would not be worth fixing and to consider trading.the price estimated was over $4000.i honestly think that because this is an environmental issue, we should not be responsible for this manufacturer defect. This car did not even have 100k miles.

Problems with exhaust manifold is causing carbon monozide fumes to enter the passenger area.*mr(nar)

Defective part. Exhaust manifold failed and is out of warranty. Dealer would not cover repair cost due to being out of warranty. This type of part should not have failed in three years no matter what the milage is. It caused driver (me) to breath exhaust fumes and i became light headed and sick. Weather was too cold to drive with windows open. Manufacturer should cover the cost of this repair.

I have a mazda mpv 2000, the check engine light came on and i took it in for service on 2/13/03.i was told that the mpv required a new oxygen sensor but it would be 3 to 4 weeks due to a back order.i was told by the dealer that i could drive the car and it would harm nothing. On feb 20th, i drove 3/4 mile from home when the mpv died with the check engine light, oil light and battery light all on.the mpv was towed to the mazda dealership, they called me and said the engine was ceased.

Mazda recommend a 205/65/r15 94s for this vehicle, they even mailed out these stickers for applying to car door frame to cover early publication sticker 205/65/r15 92s.when looking for replacement tire all shope (sears, dunlop, goodyear etc show 205/65/r15 92s recommended replacement.this is wrong!92 is less load capability and it does'nt agree with door sticker recommendation.

Instrument panel lights flicker, increase in brightness, and get dim. This ocurs when the air conditioner or heater is in use at night with the usual night driving lights are on.

Drivers door will not unlatch. Electric lock functions - unlocking all other doors. The inside and outside handle are easy to move, but do not appear to be linked to the latch, so the door will not unlatch and open.this appears to be a safety problem, and several reports appear on mazda owner websites noting the internal bar connected to the latch mechanism can come loose, rotate and unlink so the door can't be unlatched using either handle.

The rear support cylinder that holds up the rear door has rusted around the ball and snapped in half in that area. Leaving only one support arm to hold the door up. Fortunately, it broke while we were putting the door back down, so there were no injuries. I believe this rusting occurred due to water getting in through the cracks of the door from rain/washing, etc. This has caused the door to be extremely heavy and the other support cylinder is not able to support the weight. We have 5 children so this could cause some serious injury if the door were to fall closed while one of them is around.i found a recall for this exact problem for canada only however this is a common problem with us makes as well.

Door lock actuator cable broken on drivers door of 2000 mazda mpv not allowing driver to get into or our of the vehicle without the use of both hands.i feel this is unsafe and mazda corporate is unwilling to repair unless i pay for it.potential hazard if cable is broken during a crash and driver is unable to reach handle without both hands.

The driver sliding door handle came off in my hand when i was attempting to open the door of my van....this is the second time this has happened, i already had to pay $300 to fix the passenger side sliding door handle when the exact same things happened within the last year and that time i was holding my son and almost fell!!!! this is obviously a defect and i had another individual come up to me when the other side was broken w/the same color make and model vehicle and tell me the exact same thing happened to their van......there needs to be a recall on these door handles not only for the safety of many families but for the cost associated w/such a necessary part of the vehicle, thanks!!!

Complaint received e-mail. We are having problems with the front door not unlocking. We had to fix the passenger's side about a month ago. Now, the driver's side can not be opened unlessusing a key on the outside or hold the unlocked button on the inside. I hope we never get into a wreck because no one could get us out of the car.

Sliding door opened on three separate occasions while driving, on one occasion the door was stuck open and could only be closed by lifting and pulling the door, the dealer replaced missing screws in the door latch but the problem recurred. *nlm

Rear hatch of vehicle has two support cylinders the first one broke off on the driver side a year ago, hitting my wife on the head. I replaced it with a new one $75.00. The next time as of date below the passenger side of the door broke off again without warning. I have the part. The metal fatigued and it just snapped without warning. Problem: day before my two kids were sitting on the back of the vehicle removing there ski boots. If at that point the door let go, they would have been dead or seriously injured. That door is heavy. This is unacceptable. The part is inadequately designed. It is a dangerous hazard and should be addressed before someone looses their life!!!!!!! if my wife had not been standing the door would have hit her harder and quite possibly killed her. This is a wakeup call folks. Some one is going get killed with this vehicle.

The vehicle would not go into park and it was impossible to turn the motor off or take the key out, dealer found a wire which had gotten hung up in the shift mechanism, 5000 miles later, dealer found the cable and shift linkage hanging up under the dash, repairs were made and about 3 weeks later vehicle would not go into park again, consumer feels the transmission should be replaced.

The gear shifter lever keeps getting stuck and will not go into park. I have had this repaired twice and it just started doing it again.

While driving on the interstate, my mazda mpv lost power to the drive wheels, and i had to pull over to the side of the road.

Consumer stated that when putting on the rear seat belt it would not be tight enough for it to fit the consumer properly. Dealer will be notified. Ts

Consumer states while vehicle was parked with the emergency parking brake on, the vehicle started to move forward.the gear shift would stick in park or move by itself, the right rear door would open while the vehicle was in motion and failed to close properly, and one of the seat belts was installed backwards. *scc

The fixed seat belt anchors prevent safe installation of child and infant car seats.the point where the buckle engages the anchor is too far away from the car seat to properly secure the child seat.the child seat has too much freedom of movement after the seat belt is buckled and tightened.

Car safety seat was strapped inmiddle row onpassenger's side seat. Whenvehicle was involved in a passenger side collision it caused vehicle to roll, andseat belt, that held car safety seat, unbuckled while vehicle was rolling over. The two year toddler was injured during the accident.

Seat belts lock up when vehicle is moving, they do not release.i believe design defect in that belts are too short.middle seat moves from left to right.when in the left position, it locks up immediately.manufacturer says operating normally.

Passenger's seat belt locks up andbecomes extremely tight when vehicle is being driven or whenpassenger slightly moves.the dealer confirmed that the seat belt was defective and replaced it, but the problem reoccured.

Front passenger's side seatbelt tightens with minimal movement, retracts, locks up and will not release. Passenger must unbuckle seat belt due to extreme discomfort.

This is of utmost concern for the safety of children in car-seats or booster seats.the seat belt anchors for the 2nd and 3rd row seats are of solid, inflexible construction.this inflexible construction combined with the placement of the anchors does not allow the safe installation of most infant car seats and toddler booster seats.out of seven infant and booster seats tried, only one has been able to be installed somewhat correctly.the placement and inflexibility of the anchors requires that the lap portion of the seatbelt be located approximately 7 inches away from the intersection of the seat face and back.this acutally pulls a typical car seat away from the seat back and does not work safely.

Dt: the contact stated the latch system was defective. He took the car to a certified inspection station in his city on 11-02-05 to have the safety seat inspected and turned to face forward. They told him they would not turn the safety seat because the latch system in the vehicle would not work properly with a forward facing child seat.the clip between the seats was facing forward, instead of vertical, causing the seat belt to get twisted and bunched up. This causedthe safety seat to lurch forward when installed in a forward facing position. The latch system will allow proper installation of a rear facing infant seat.11/15/05.

The rear seat belt became so tight, it had to be cut in order for the passenger to get out. . the consumer stated it was the second occurrence.

While sitting in passenger's seat charge went off, blew passenger's seat up, and air bag did not deploy. Please provide any further information.

While at my mazda dealer i was inspecting the new mpv.one of the major features of the new mpv is the drop away rear seat.while trying to see how easy the seat was to fold away, i caught my finger in the seat portion as it folded away.if you combine the small tolerance of where my finger was caught as well as the velocity of the fold away aspect of the seat this inflicted severe pain on my hand.i feel as a consumer this is a design flaw in the vehicle and is a danger to adults as well as a greater danger to children!

Leak in 2000 mpv that dealer stated was due to "outside influence" and would not be covered as a manufacturer's defect.dealer told us that the leak (which ruined our floor boards, rugs and wiring) was due to parking the car outside, which led to dirt and leaves getting into the hood, (or somewhere) clogging the drainage system .we do park the car outside in a clear driveway. (we were not aware that you had to own a garage to own a mazda). We have never had an accident or made any modifications to the car. It just started to leak uncontrollably.they also refused to fix the spare tire holder(which is under the base of the car) which according to the dealer, broke on the first use.(we simply followed the instructions in the manual when removing the tire from the holder)we can not put the tire back, and were told that it would cost us 480. (at least) to fix it. Our car is 6 months and 5,000 miles out of warranty and will be ruined the next time it rains as water pours into the front of the car into the floorboards, after soaking the wiring. I suppose we will have to move and buy a garage....

The contact restarted the vehicle and the failure recurred. The current and failure mileage were 44000.

On my mazda mpv, the driver's side sliding door exterior handle detached from the back connection to the door and then completely came off in my hand on the following opening. Now the entire exterior door handle is missing.to correct this issue, i went to the original dealer.i was told this was a part that was not even stocked at the dealer and would need special order.it was recommended to me to search for the part myself.in doing so, i have found that hundreds of others are also searching for exterior door handles to the sliding doors on the mazda mpv van.this is a manufacturing error, not a consumer error.

The ball stud that holds the right rear liftgate cylinder snapped and the liftgate crashed down because the cylinder became disengaged.luckily, no children were under the liftgate.the same thing happened to the ball stud that holds the left rear liftgate cylinder about 5 years ago.we were lucky there were no children under the liftgate at that time also.this is a serious safety problem and mazda would not acknowledge it as such.mazda also would not acknowledge that we had the left side repaired about 5 years ago, thus indicating a pattern of failure.

Liftgate mechanism failure. My wife took the kids to the pool. Upon exiting the vehicle and opening the lfitgate, which began to lift upward, a "pop" was heard and the lift gate came crashing back downward. Luckily no one was standing under the liftgate at the time. The ball stud attached to the door and piston had snapped, causing the piston to fall from the door. The weight of the door then came crashing down. Inspection of the stud showed a total failure of the stud, which snapped in half.

Yokohama tires p205/65r15, dot fd9lnhl0300 are faulty, consumer had tires replaced.

Tires are wearing badly on outside edge.i have kept tires inflated to 35 psi (their maximum limit).i first noticed this when i had the tire rotated-the rear tires were worn, the front ones were not.now that four months have elapsed since last rotation, i see the same wear pattern on the rear tires (which were the front tires prior to rotation).these same tires had normal wear prior to rotation.i had to alignment checked and was told by an independent tire shop that the alignment was well within tolerances-this was done july 28, 2001.fairway mazda does not consider this to be a warranty or defect issue since the brunt is on me to prove that i have faithfully kept tire pressure at 35 psi.i have a 1984 honda prelude that has three year old tires, has its tires rotated alot less frequently, and is aligned less frequently and its tires are wearing normally and evenly and i check the tire pressure as often or less than i do the mazda.based on this, i believe there to be a defect either in the tires or the van.thank you for your help. All four yokohama y376 tires were completely bald, absolutely no tread was left although the tire had been rotated as described in the owners manual, the tires were expected to last only 25000, had a tread rating of only 200 and a sidewall rating of only 92s, the consumer is disappointed that the manufacturer would equip this vehicle with inferior tires, the vehicle was still covered by the original equipment warranty but since they purchased a different brand tire the warranty was not honored, the consumer is requesting reimbursement.nlm

Belt runout with one tire. This may be related to recall - 00v113001. Mazda claims tires meet 94 load rating. However, the early failure of a tire leads me to think that the tires are too small and do not meet the 94 load rating. Also, the labels issued by mazda say to use a replacement tire that is a 205/65 15 94s and inflate it to 35 psi. This is wrong. Only 3 tires are available in that size with a load rating of 94. They all require you to inflate the tires to 44 psi or greater. This is a serious safety issue. Mazda is suggesting owners under-inflate the tires by 9 to 16 psi. The standard tire rating for a 205/65 15 is a 1992. (tiresize: 205/65 15)

Both front tires (inside edge) worn out around half the circumference of the tire.the front tires worn out prematurely with the treads showing separations about an inch long from edges where treads meet the sidewall.the steel belts could be seen from the one-inch separation.car dealer service manager could not figure out what caused the premature wear.. The vehicle tires have been rotated and balanced according to maintenance schedule.contacted tire manufacturer and referred to a local dunlop dealer.tire dealer concluded that tires were not rotated.my brother- in- laws mpv 2000 with 25k miles experienced the same tire wear (the brand of tires he had was yokohama), but much more severe damage with longer tread separation causing the tires to lose most of the air.my comment is, could this be a car problem (suspension), and not the tire?i am thankful that these tires did not blow up at high speeds.who knows how many more out there are not being reported.thank you for taking the time to read about my problem and hope to hear from the nhtsa soon.

The spare tire onmy 2000 mpv broke and left the tire dangling under the van. There is only 40,000 miles on the vehicle. The design is very poor. It is unsafe if the spare tire is not secure under the vehicle. It is unsafe to be unable to quickly access the spare on the roadside. This part should be more reliable. I am most angry at mazda. The cost is $500 to repair. It only carries the spare tire. I am aware that this is a common problem. Surely and more safe and reliable design is possible. Thank you for your attention to my concern.

Tread separation and excessive tread wear discovered on both front tires during routine tire rotation maintenance.the rubber had parted in a couple of places on both tires revealing the tires' steel belts underneath.tires were immediately replaced - we are still in possession of the faulty tires. Windshield is cracked from a point just above the drivers side windshield wiper mount, then following a line along the windshield wiper till the center of the windshield where it then curves down to the bottom of the windshield. Near the bottom center of the windshield is a tiny chip, about the size of a pinprick. Apparantly this is where a small object struck the windshield and caused this large crack. I would think that there must be a defect in the windshield, or the structural design of the vehicle, for such a large crack to stem from such insignificant physical damage to the surface of the windshield. As the edge of the windscreen is well below the driver's line of sight, some protection for it should have been designed into the vehicle if it is so fragile that any tiny pebble could destroy a windshield.
