Read complaints for MAZDA MAZDA3 (2008)
The front passenger seat weight sensors are programmed to inactivate the front and side passenger air bags and the front passenger seat belt pretensioner if the front passenger weighs between 66 and 93 lbs. My wife weighs about 83 lbs. According to mazda, this is not a defect, but a federal government requirement. I can understand the side air bag inactivation, but not the front air bag inactivation (you can push the seat far back) and certainly not the seat belt pretensioner inactivation. This rule is wrong and puts lives at risk. If you google "mazda front air bag inactivation", you will see that lots of mazda owners have the same complaint, and it extends to owners of other makes. The air bag inactivation light continues to go on and off as my wife moves in her seat, and has done this since the car was new. We have a 2006 mazda3 with exactly the same problem.
#1 air bag warning dash light remains illuminated and has stayed illuminated for approximately 1 1/2+ years. There is no mazda dealership in my area and i initially believed it was my responsibility to replace or repair at my expense due to the vehicle's age.#2brakes:vehicle was recently serviced and comprehensive safety inspected on 6 nov 2018.i asked the shop to check the brake pedal for abnormal pressure.i felt the brake pedal was not maintaining a firm pedal push while driving, but at first felt firm then softened almost all the way to the floor board. I returned to the auto service to point this out and the representative responded no evidence of brake fluidleaking out and earlier while they drove it around their facility it felt fine, therefore it was ok to drive like this. Today is 3 december and it is still a mushy brake.
Takata recall 1 vehicle crash where vehicle hydroplaned on interstate crashing into retaining wall with front end damage and no air bag deployment.
My boyfriend was in a roll over accident where the airbag sensors were completely ripped off along with the bumper and the airbags did not deploy and the seatbelt did not lock up until he came to a stop.
Air bag light inside instrument cluster won't come off.
The airbag sensor light came on and would not turn off. After taking the care to the dealer to be checked out we were informed that the sensor is under the cup holder and the sensor must have gotten wet, possibly from condensation. Because the sensor was damaged the airbags will not work according to the dealer. It seems very dangerous to place an airbag sensor, under a cupholder, that can be so easily damaged by drink condensation.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle increased acceleration independently and crashed into a utility pole. The contact sustained injuries to the knee and neck area. The air bags failed to deploy. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. A police report was filed of the incident. The acceleration also occurred on a separate occasion however the vehicle came to a stop when the brakes were engaged. The manufacturer was not notified of the malfunction. The approximate failure mileage was 13,000. The vin was unavailable.
The car hit a bank then went airborne and came to to a tree and neither airbag deployedthe car also hit a road sign and it was being drivingdown road
I was involved in a four car collision.i was third in line, and was hit really hard from behind and then hit the car in front of me.my air bags did not deploy and my seat belt did not lock.i slammed into the steering wheel and busted my forehead open.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda, mazda3. The contact was involved in a crash when someone ran them off the road and caused the vehicle to roll over and go into the bottom of a ravine. The contact was not injured, but was concerned since the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was destroyed. The contact stated the vehicle was not inspected to see why the air bags did not deploy. The failure mileage was 55,000.
Air bag light came on, diagnostic showed that the air bag is faulted.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. While driving at an unknown speed, the air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.
2008 mazda 3 was struck while parked.months later air bag light came on and repeatedly went to the local mazda dealership about the issue.last encounter with dealership(oct 2014), they checked the air bag and concluded it was not a recall issue, and stated the problem stems from auto accident.complained to my insurance co and re-opened claim.the insurance company(nov 2014) concluded from where the car was impacted on the rear passenger side, the air bag is not their issue and did not stem from cause of impact.air bag module needs to be investigated and addressed with mazda co.with all these developments with faulty air bags made by takata(company whom make airbags), something is totally wrong.this is a safety issue, that needs to be taken care of.
Air bag light stays on for no reason
The contact owns a 2008 mazda, mazda3. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle hit a washboard and rolled down a hill. The air bags did not deploy and the seat belts loosened. The contact sustained neck and back injuries. A police report was filed. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3. The contact was driving approximately 32 mph when she attempted to avoid an animal. The contact steered to the left but the vehicle instead violently veered to the left causing her to crash into an embankment. The vehicle proceeded to roll over once crashing and the air bags did not deploy. The contact sustained head injuries as a result. A police report was available. The vehicle was destroyed. The vin was unavailable. The approximate failure mileage was 10,000.
The air bag worning light comes on and off as i drive down the road.truning, going over a bump etc.i was told they will not deploy if the light is on...
Airbag light is on.....lost power steering at only 110,000 miles...abs break system not working
My son purchased a new 2008 mazda 3 in late july 2008.last saturday he slid on ice and hit a tree head on at approximately 30 mph and none of the air bags deployed.the car has roughly 7000 miles on it. The initial estimate for repairs is $9100. I contacted mazda at 1-800-222-5500 (daniel) to try and determine why the air bags didn't deploy and was told that mazda doesn't send an investigator out and i should contact my insurance company to determine why the air bags didn't deploy.my insurance company (farmers) tells me that they don't investigate unless there is reason to go after the manufacturer to help with medical expenses incurred due to the accident. I need to know why the air bags didn't work so the problem is corrected rather than just assume that they will next time. My son suffered whiplash to his neck and back and a strain to his left shoulder from the seat belt. I believe this was caused because the airbag didn't deploy to cushion the impact to the tree. Isn't that what they're there for? mazda doesn't seem interested to know whether there is a defect or not.
While driving on the freeway at 75 mph, tried to avoid a vehicle that was unsafely changing lanes. Pushed brakes and veered towards left. The brakes (which are not abs) responded slowly and i slammed in the middle divider. A couple month before the accident the dealer had the rotors resurfaced since the car was shaking vigorously while braking at high speeds. Also the air bags did not deploy during the accident. Took car to a mechanic and the mechanic was amazed that based on the visual frontal damage to the car the air bags did not deploy.
Turning left on a t junction when some one ran a red light and crashed into my driverside front and rear doors.the hit was hard enough to pin the steering wheel with the smashed in door, but the side airbags did not go off.no corrective action was taken as the vehicle was titled as a total loss.
Rear tail lights are factory equipped with factory bulbs and developed melted holes on the rear lenses.
I started the car, put it in reverse and began backing out. As the car began to move the steering felt sluggish like the power steering was not working. The condition lasted a few seconds then cleared up. That happened twice more as i was backing out.whenever the steering became sluggish some of the warning lights turned on (low tire, abs, brake, oil, etc). They turned off whenever the steering returned to normal. The condition seemed to clear itself so i put the car in drive and went a few hundred feet.the sluggish steering and flashing warning lights began again.i stopped the car, left the engine running and checked the tires, power steering belt, and power steering fluid level. All were ok.at this point i shut off the engine and removed the key. The speedometer and tachometer needles oscillated wildly from end to end for several seconds.the warning lights were also on. After waiting for the instrumentation to settle to the normal off state, i inserted the key and attempted to start the vehicle. There was no electrical power whatever, like the battery had been removed.i removed the key waited 15 seconds and attempted to start the engine again.that time the car started as expected. I drove the car slowly for a few minutes and there was no recurrence of the problem.the car has been driven several hundred miles since then with no recurrence of the steering issue or flashing warning lights.
My windshield wipers stopped working. After a visit to the shop, i learned that my micro computer was not working and needed to be replaced. This repair cost $729. After some research i found that this is a very common problem with mazda 3s made around 2008.my car is only 5 years old with fairly low mileage, i believe that a defective part caused the problem and this issue should be evaluated for recall and reimbursement. Thank you.
This vehicle has had 3 repeated major service repair attempts related to the tcm, pcm at light, check engine/transmission light trying to resolve this issuepermanently. This vehicle was in motion and stationary on a city street when experiencing all of these problems.this vehicle has only approximately 68,000 miles. This is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed by mazda or buy back this vehicle. No one should have to be faced with these kinds of concerns. These systemic issues has not been favorable in my view and will having a major determing effect in future car purchase.brand loyalty. [blah, blah, blah...] 4-3-2019 at 9:27am
Tail/brake light lenses melted. Original parts, replaced the whole tail light assembly and bulbs in june 2014 and i noticed in august 2014 the tail light on the drivers side was out. The lenses melted again, the bulbs were 7443 .researched on the internet and found this problem on numerous posts mainly with the mazda 3 hatchback which is what i have. Called the local mazda dealer and they said they never heard of the problem. Sounds like a fire hazard. Have you had any other complaints about this?
I was driving when suddenly and without notice i lost all control over the engine.pressing the accelerator down did not change the engine speed.the engine would only idle.the car was towed to the dealer who determined that a bad connection occurred between the wiring and the ?pcm? module.if this had occurred while passing or while executing a left turn, a serious or even fatal accident could have occurred. Ma 10/22/2015
Since the course of about a year, i have experienced traumatic moments while driving my vehicle pertaining to it's electrical/transmission functionality. When driving the vehicle at normal speeds (ex. 50mph) the mazda would buckle, rev abnormally, all while my gear indicator would flicker. This would happen after about 10 minutes of driving and continue on for the remainder of the drive about every 20 minute interval. This is quite unsafe, and the repairs that multiple mechanics including mazda themselves suggested to repair the issue did not accomplish anything unfortunately. Repairmen flushed and replaced the automatic transmission fluid, replaced my output speed sensor, changed out my shift solenoids, gear shifter, and even replaced my entire pcm. I have not only taken pictures and videos of these horrid incidences, but there seems to be other instances of people having this identical issue with their mazda's as well. If there is a way to show my video examples for study, then i will gladly send them.
My left rear tail red tail light went out.i tried to change it but it has melted to the wires and the light housing.i am unable to change it.i am afraid this melting is a dangerous issue because it's a possible fire hazard.i searched the internet and have found many other mazda owners with this same issue.others even have both sides melting the rear lights.i cannot even change the bulb now.this can be a danger because i cannot use my left tail light or left rear signal.this could cause someone to crash into me not knowing i am slowing down for a left turn.
On 04/01/2015 while driving in the city at about 25 mph the transmission went from 4 to 1, and the car jerked really hard. At light and check engine light came on. After pulling over and turning the car off and waiting a couple of minutes, at light went away, check engine light was still on. The same happened in two days, then in 5 days while driving on a freeway with speed 65 mph - the car jerked and bucked at full speed, at light and check engine light on, transmission went from 5 to 1 to 3, tachometer went from 2500 rpm to over 4000 rpm - thankfully i did not hit anyone and i wasn't hit by other cars when that happened (i was very scared!). I got the car towed to the dealership, and after two days of diagnostics the answer - transmission control module (tcm) is bad. I did research online - very common problem with cars of this make, model and year. Dealer can not fix it because tcm is on nationwide back order! i have no car for a week now and it could be a month when the part will be available. This kind of problem worth of a recall due to the safety concerns and the cost of the replacement - over $1000 including diagnostics.
I parked my car on numerous occasions in the last few months where the transmission failed to engage in park. It required multiple tries to get the park indicator light on the dash to reflect that the car was safely engaged in park. Before i realized what was happening with the transmission. On at least 3 occasions i was unable to start my car at all when i returned from a brief stop.the problem with failing to start happened when the car was on a slight incline and i had engaged the parking brake. After jiggling the automatic transmission lever repeatedly, moving the steering wheel and applying the brake vigorously, i was eventually able to get the car to start. I'm not sure whether it was rocking of the vehicle from frustration or jiggling the gear selector that finally worked. The car has a new battery and has had all scheduled maintenance performed by my local mazda dealer.when this happens, other electrical equipment functions but there is absolutely no response from the ignition system.
A few years ago upon washing my car i noticed my tail lights looked a bit odd so i took a closer look and realized they had melted to the point they were deformed and as a result the light emitted is far less than when in tact. I took the car to the dealership and they replaced them under warranty even though my warranty expired and they assured me it was a fluke issue and that it would never happen again.well last weekend i go to place groceries in my trunk and saw they looked melted again. After a closer look they had indeed melted again, but this time even worse that before and they emit even less light than the first time around.after a little research it's become apparent this is a wide spread issue for a multitude of mazda models. Online forums are full of people with the same issue both on the mazda 3 and a wide array of different mazda models. The mazda, 5 and even the cx9 all have this very issue and almost everyone stated the light output was very subdued and in a few cases no light at all or the housing melted so badly it broke the light completely and they were not able to change out the bulb, and rather, had to purchase brand new taillights.i just called mazda usa customer service and they told me that since my car is so far out of warranty there was nothing they could do, so i explained it's not a cosmetic or aesthetic issue, but a safety issue and though the rep agreed it was a widespread issue, even among current models being sold, he insisted that since my car is out of warranty it's not their problem!!!how can so many units from so many models have this same safety issue and it not have been recalled???!?!?!?!?this is an outrage and eventually it will end in catastrophe and hopefully it's not with me!please feel free to contact me if necessary. I'd be glad to help. Mazda service is pretty terrible as it is but this is insane!
The red plastic on my tail light has melted.i assume that this could have at some point created a fire or some other safety hazard.there are many complaints about this very problem in this make and model car and this needs to be addressed by mazda even if the car is no longer under warranty.this is a safety issue and i believe the government should take this seriously and move to action against mazda for this flaw in their manufacturing. We are now having to replace this part and it will cost about $600.00.
While driving at 65 mph on interstate 95 in fort lauderdae, fl both of my headlights failed. I was in total darkness and thank god i remembered my dad saying that your high beams are a backup system. This worked. We have had this car in for service 5 times for lamp failures on headlights always at no cost? now both failed at once, the internet is flooded with with complaints. Is my care safe? i do not trust the dealers, they never charge me for lamp repairs, are they hiding something?
In the past month the radio, lights, the cluster, all shut down and restart as driving. Last night as driving on telegraph rd, 45 mph, the power steering suddenly stopped working, i could not control the car, and another vehicle behind me almost hit me, as i was switching in neutral, and back in drive. All of the sudden regain control and was able to turn right into a parking lot. I remember having this issue back in jan. Of 2011, and there was a recall for it, that i have had fixed. The pattern is that i bought the vehicle in 2008, 3 years later - in 2011 the recall took care of the defective part, and now, 3 years after the replacement the same issue arise. This is very dangerous, can cause accidents, as is happens as driving unexpectedly.
Uncontrolled acceleration when vehicle is standing still (stop sign, traffic signal)have found it necessary to shift into neutral until engine revs down to normal rpms, and then proceed.this does not occur when vehicle is in motion (toyota prius).have eliminated "floor mats" or foot slipping onto gas pedal.
At light and check engine light come on.while driving on freeway hard shifts automatically from 5th gear down to a harsh 3rd gear.cannot get at light to shut off, replaced solinoids, tcm, pcm and still cannot locate the issue.car will not go past 3rd gear.car is still under 80k miles.
Ever since i brought this car im having issues with my headlamps. I had replaced headlight bulbs atleast 15 times. Lamps will last roughly 3 to 6 months and then burnout. I complained many times to the dealership and they have no answer to the root cause other than simply changing the bulbs. I suspect there might be an issue in wiring. Many 2008 mazda 3 owners are complaining similar issues on-line and websites.
While driving the speed goes up and down on its own the automatic transmission of my 2008 mazda 3 shifts down from the 5th to the 3rd gear. This causes the car to jerk violently and the controls to illuminate including check engine, no traction and at. My mechanic could not find a cause of this, and he serviced the transmission by changing the filter and transmission fluid but the problem persists. One mechanic said it is the speed sensor another the transmissions computer i have spend about 1,800 and i still have the same problems. It is very scary for my kids and myself while driving and i can't afford to get another car. What is the problems with mazda with my car? can someone please help?!also all the electrical stop working about two years ago, another thing is the steering wheels problems when making a turn it really time forever and it is really slow and heavy.
When my used 2008 mazda 3 car is parked over a day of more without being plugged to a charger it will not start. Nothing will work even the remote to open the door. Note the hundreds of owners with his problem. Check the web for this problem. I spent $870.00 to have this fixed to no avail.
10 minutes after my check engine light went on my car lost power to accelerate.i pulled over as soon as this started and by the time i was able to get off the highway my car died at the top of the off ramp.at this point it began billowing white smoke out from under the hood, out the tailpipe, and into the cabin of the car.it was not blue nor did it have an oil smell. I was originally travelling approximately 70 miles an hour when i started to lose power and in the minute or two it took me to get to the off ramp and at the time the car died i was going less than 5mph.when taken to the shop they said that 3 of the 4 cylinders had 0 remaining power and the fourth only had around 1/8th of the power that it should have had.they said that oil and coolant remained in the car at proper levels.my car has been well maintained and, again, the fluid levels were appropriate.i had between 10 and 15 minutes between when the check engine light first went on and catastrophic, irreparable engine failure. The car itself had only 85,000 miles on it.looking online i see many others, not just one or two hut hundreds, who have had nearly identical experiences with this exact make, model, and engine size.yet mazda, when called, stated that there was no recall and he hadn't heard anything about it, though others have expressed that they, too, contacted mazda after this type of complete engine failure.mazda's response was that it was out of the power-train warranty period and that there was nothing that they would be willing to do.

Car accident going around 60mph on a highway, hit guardrail head on due to black ice and rain, spinning twice hitting guardrails again front and back multiple times, not a single airbag deployed.thank goodness for the seatbelt as i'm sure death would have occurred if that failed too.going through the insurance process now and will have more pictures and police report in hand shortly.i thought my wife and kids were in a safe car... I guess not.
Passenger side motor mount inop after only 67,000 miles.
Aeveral recalls for 2008 mazda3..... However my vin isnt assosiated with any and i have all the problema. Power steerings unit stripped2 or the 3 bolts holes ans fell down from cracked engine mounts slight rattling..... Stationary and moving. Idle is at 500-1,000 rpms very odd feeling.random body damage and entire of bottom engine rusty.... Paint rusts as well. Just bought the car on finance and really need some help
Complete engine failure on well maintained mazda 3i at 75000 miles.traveling on freeway in slowest lane of traffic, first heard a clicking noise and engine light went on.car seemed to be losing power.called aaa roadside help, who checked the car and determined it was ok and could be driven home, about 10 miles away.proceeded to drive home, 5 miles into trip began losing power, clicking noise returned so i pulled over to shoulder as car completely lost power, engine overheated.prognosis:timing chain broke, engine overheated and this car is a total loss.finding now there are thousands of consumers that have experienced this issue with mazda engines.this company is a fraud, and people's lives are in danger as the result. Never again will i have anything to do with mazda cars.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. While driving at various speeds, the atv and check engine lights illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the highway to restart the vehicle, but the warning lights were still illuminated. In addition, the vehicle jerked while driving and accelerated on its own. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the housing rod was cracked. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failures. The failure mileage was 127,000.
Car was vibrating a lot when in gear and holding brakes replaced motor mounts and throttle body to fix issue. Also when slowing down and speeding back up the transmission grinds when down shifting. Feels like it is slipping and is not safe if you are driving on the highway or in the city and want to switch lanes and speed up i'm afraid one day i'm going to switch lanes hit the gas and the transmission will fail. The carmax i got the car from insists it is just a transmission "shutter" and it happens with certain cars. I will be getting a second opinion from an ase certified transmission shop. Dealership made me think it was brake pads at first i paid $300 to have perfectly good pads replaced with new ones to have the problem not fixed. I am extremely irritated with dealership trying to get around fixing the car. Other than those 2 problems the car is great.

July 11, 2011. 34443 miles. Constant running of electric radiator fan when vehicle is running caused by complete failure of oem water pump. Unit replaced by another oem water pump. November 01, 2017. 97841 miles. Complete failure of second oem water pump. Unit replaced by a third oem water pump.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3. The contact stated that while driving at 30 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact was able to restart the vehicle however, the check engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle started to sputter. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed where it was diagnosed that the oxygen sensor was seized into the catalytic converter and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact also stated that the steering had excessive movement, while driving. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 79,352.

My mazda3 dies while i am driving without any indication of what is going on (no check engine light). When it does, i wait for a while and it will start back up again! my shop and i have tried everything we can, but we can't figure out why it is doing that! i called the manufacture and they said it was recalled for power steering assist failure and fixed in 2010 but to us it sounds it is that issue causing it to stop while in motion! this car is unsafe!! no car should stop in motion from nowhere! the manufacture should be responsible for that!
Overflow bottle cracked for no apparent reason causing problems with the engine costing more than 1500 worth of damages.the mechanic encourage that i report because he says this should not have happened and that mazda is known for having this defect.it is a costly repair.
The right font engine mount has broke. This was a recall on the 2006 model mazda 3 but it appears that mazda has continued to use the recalled pat o late models of various models.
Check engine light came on 12/13/14, car wouldn't start 12/14/14, had towed to repair shop 12/15/14 and was told engine was flooded because the car couldn't meter air correctly and over fueled the car. Spark plugs, air filter and throttle body were all gummed up and dirty due to this. Repair shop checked the technical service bulletin relating to the check engine light and found that this is a a known issue. They had to modify a bracket and splice in new wire where it was rubbed through because of this defect. If this is truly a common defect mazda should issue a recall on it and reimburse owners who have already had to have it fixed.
Passenger side top motor mount defective seen a lot of people mad about this they replace it goes bad 1 to 2 later.
Engine mounts failed.noticed vibration in the cabin when the car was in drive.there was no noticed vibration when the car was idling.when the engine was in drive, with the hood popped, the engine was noticeably pitching forward and returning to it's default position when the gas was released.i checked recalls and there were none shown, but there were many complaints about this on the internet.local mechanic also stated that this is a known.
Sitting in parking lot, engine and a/c on, then tried to pull out, power steering failed; had to wait one hour for car to cool before the steering came back on. The power steering pump failed, needs to be flushed, common problem with the mazda 3's apparently.at least it did not happen on the road.
Shortly after purchasing a 2008 mazda3 i 2.0l sedan, i began to feel a shake through the steering wheel and chassis while idling/driving.dealer verified shake and per tsb due to an ongoing problem, replaced motor mounts.car felt better but not completely free of engine shake and now appears to be getting worse.when the engine is started cold it shakes the entire car and when warm a suttle but noticeable shake is still felt though the steering wheel and chassis.after reading numerous posts on mazda3 enthusiast websites, this appears to be a common and ongoing problem spanning several years.
Air conditioning compressor failure on 2008 mazda 3.
The contact owned a 2008 mazda mazda3. While driving approximately 40 mph, the contact noticed smoke from under the hood. The contact stopped the vehicle on the shoulder of the road. The contact then opened the hood and noticed flames. The fire spread throughout the entire vehicle. The fire department reported to the scene. There was no report filed. The insurance provider had the vehicle towed to a collision center. The vehicle was destroyed. The cause of the fire was undetermined. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 77,000.
2008 mazda 3. Consumer states engine blew *tgwthe vehicle was towed to the dealership where it was purchased. An inspection revealed, there was insufficient oil in the vehicle.

The car began making me sick - bad headaches and loss of concentration. My wife for 2 months and gave car back to me in march. I sent for a formaldehyde testing kit from a lab and tested the car after driving and getting really sick. The results came back positive with a .075ppm (almost exact fema trailer litigation average). This testing was done on a 60 - 65 degree ambient temperature day. The formaldehyde levels seem to get worse the warmer it gets. I took car to dealer, dealer inspected, wrote it up as an air leak - could not duplicate. I filed a formal complaint with mazda. I sought help from the bbb. I took the car back to the dealer. The dealer took the car and did nothing. The dealer would not even give me any paperwork proving i had the car there. The dealer told me i need to contact my auto insurance company for repair. I did and they stated they are not responsible for bad product. The dealer gave me erroneous information, will not even document that a returned the car the second time and refused me a loaner - not even a voc mask. I get sick everytime in the toxic mazda - these cars need to be recalled - i have been sold a toxic mazda and the dealer or mazda refuses to do anything about it. This is not right.
Engine makes noise and vibration when trying to cool.
Vehicle has excessive vibrations causing a detectable noise at the exhaust flange seal.
During parallel parking practice with brand new (less than 500 miles on car) mazda3 sedan (2.3) for a driver license exam, electronic power steering assist failed multiple times, rendering steering completely inoperable (cannot even steer manually since steering resistance is extreme).no dashboard lights indicating a problem.upon turning ignition off and then immediately restarting car, steering would recover but then fail again several minutes later.car also developed high-pitched whistling sound, source unclear.dealership examined car and claims steering unit ok (although code indicated power steering malfunction) and is safe to drive.dealership hypothesizes that electronic power steering assist unit overheated and suggests not turning steering wheel to extremes for more than 5 seconds--however, the steering failed at times when steering wheel was not turned to extreme (wheels straight), and if this is an "accepted" or "expected" finding in these cars it seems the safety margin for such a system failure is very low.dealership cannot explain high-pitched whistle noise or failure of dashboard light to indicate steering system failure.
The plastic surrounding the tail lights has melted, so when braking or driving in the dark, the tail lights show as a mix of red and white.the front headlights go out, both have gone out at different times.sometimes they start working again for no reason, but will be out again after a few days or weeks.
My tail lights have melted the red plastic cover severely in both lights. My friend driving behind me thought my reverse lights were on every time i braked. My lights were the original bulbs and not aftermarket. I did not notice the melting until august 2014.
I was informed by my friend driving in back of me that my brake lights seemed to be melting away, i looked at the light and realized it was the light bulb melting the cover for the brake.i asked mazda what was the reason but they didn't look into it and just advised me the amount i would need to have this fixed but because they advised me that i have to pay for this damage that looks like a manufacturer damage, i just left it alone until the light bulb went out and i have to be very careful to replace it not to get hurt from it.as 1 month passed, i realized that the cover was melting away and it looked just like a backup light and also realized that my right side was doing the same.i thought it this red cover wears away, this can be dangerous for the drivers in back of me that would only pay attention to the red lights when i hit the brake.this may be a hazard on the road and lead to accidents if drivers were not paying close attention that my brake light was no longer red.i then started doing research and noticed on the mazda forum that many others had the same situation as me, hopefully you can look into it.
Rear tail lights are factory equipped with factory bulbs and developed melted holes on the rear lenses.
Tail-lights overheat causing the taillights to go out and melting sockets and red lenses.replaced socket assemblies (oem) and bulbs (oem), then had to replace lens assemblies because white light comes out instead of red. About 3-year later the problem is recurring (taillight out intermittently, socket melted, and sense starting to melt.)
Headlights continually go out about two-three months after being replaced.
On my mazda3 i have noticed that driving at night has become more difficult due the head lights were not shining bright enough.i noticed now during the day time that the head light clear covers are corroded.it looks like there is condensation inside the head light cover housing and it has corroded the light covers.it reduces visibilitythat can cause dangerous conditions at night.i;m afraid i could hit something or someone not being able to fully see them.
Each of my headlights have gone out 3 times within 25,000 miles and 1 1/2 years of driving it.
I have had issues with the front and rear lights.discovered that the socket to the headlight on the drivers side was melted when i went to replace the bulb.after replacing the socket the light worked only intermittently.there seemed to be a poor connection and i would have to adjust the wiring leading to the bulb until i got a good connection.this connection was easily lost hitting bumps in the road.tried another replacement socket and this one works much better.also discovered a melted socket on the passenger side brake light along with a melted light housing.despite the light not working it was extremely hot when i went to remove it.while the driver's side brake light is currently working, it too seems to be over heating.the socket is cracked in two places and the light housing is also melted.
The taillights internal red housing is melting on both driver and passenger sides and making a safety issue for visibility. This internal red housing or fixture surrounds the brake/light bulb. This is a hatchback and i have seen other mazda 3 hatches with the same issue. Also everyone is having this issue even other mazdas in thisyear rangethat i have seen/read online
2008 mazda 3. Consumer writes in regards to defective rear brake lights. *ldthe consumer stated the red film melted due to the light due to the light bulb heat. That manufacturer was notified.
One two separate occasions over an approximate 3 month period the gas cap could not be unscrewed and remained affixed to the vehicle. I believe that this is a dangerous situation for the potential to be unable to refuel the vehicle and run out of gas while driving or in an unsafe location.both times i took it to the dealer and they confirmed that they have had "many" mazda 3 owners bring their cars in with the same problem.a search of the internet confirmed that this is a common problem.
I own a 2008 mazda3 that my daughter was driving when the car started lurching & bucking as she applied pressure on the gas pedal. It finally quit running & she had to leave it on the side of the road. When i arrived i found that the car did the same to me. I called a tow truck & had it towed to the dealership where the car was purchased, thinking it would be a warranty issue. When i was contacted by the dealership i was told that it was not covered under warranty because the car had been over filled with gas, which allowed gas to flow into the purge solenoid & the charcoal canister. I didn't even know this was possible! the dealer told me that these being full of gas was the reason the car would not run properly. I questioned them that this was a design flaw by mazda & should be addressed! they told me that mazda would do nothing for me because it was my fault that the tank was over filled with gas. To me if you have gas flowing into components of the car witch aren't intended in holding gas, there is a design problem with the car not to mention a safety hazard if the car is ever in a collision! i fear for the safety of my daughter & do not want her trapped inside of a burning car if these components keep filling up with gas & she is involved in a collision.i called mazda customer service & they also told me there was nothing they would do for me because the car was overfilled with gas. I was told that this will keep happening as long as i over fill the tank & to not make a complete fill up to keep this from happening.i had to pay for the repairs & i do have the parts that were removed. I hope someone, with you, can help me solve this problem before someone is seriously injured in a collision & a fire erupts from gas being able to flow into places it shouldn't be. Thanks for your help.
After my first gas fuel fill-up the check engine light came on. I checked the fuel cap but was unable to remove the fuel cap. After trying for 15 minutes, it finally came off. After putting the cap back on and driving a while, the light went off. The car only had 500 miles. I took the car back to the dealer. The dealer examined the cap and said there was no problem. We were able to place and remove the cap with no problem. On my next 2 fill-ups the same thing happened. I bought a stand replacement cap and have had no problems after 6,200 miles. I believe the oem cap has a design flaw. The replacement's latching tabs have a different shape and it works.
Fuel cap on car got stuck and took ten minutes to remove. The same thing happened next time car needed refueling. Again, had to try for around 10 minutes before cap could be removed and we're not even sure what we did to make it come off. This is not acceptable.....there will come a time when the cap breaks or we just can't get it off and will end up stranded with no gas. Obviously a design fault.
Mazda 3 2008 parking brake failed and the car rolled down a slope and crashed into another vehicle.
Parking brake failed while vehicle was parked.vehicle rolled down slight decline and slammed into a truck.
The vehicle suddenly jerks, pulls, stops after about 10 minutes running time.told by mechanic that it is the transmission control module.he said this model is notorious for having them fail.they are on back order with mazda with no lead time, which also says something. The vehicle is very dangerous to drive.mechanic said the original design has bad placement which causes them to heat up and fail.
The car will not go above third gear and shakes violently while on highway and secondary roads.
Premature clutch problems at 31k miles. My clutch chatters and engages poorly due to a poorly made clutch, which mazda will not replace under warranty, even though the vehicle is within the warranty period.
I was driving at normal speed when with no warning, the car jerks suddenly. I was extremely startled as it felt like i had broken an axle or ran over something big in the road.for unaware drivers it can cause an accident if they swerve in reaction.it happened about 5 more times in a 1 hr drive and just kept on happening whenever i drove it for the next 2 days at higher speeds or lower speeds,i then noticed that my display showed the gear to drop from 5th suddenly into 3rd or 4th to 3rd.if this is happening to a lot of mazda 3s, the manufacturer should do a recall as it is not safe especially at highway speeds.
At and yellow check engine light came on and car was in limp mode first thing in morning after having no issues with my mazda previously. Codes came back with solenoids a, b, c, d, e all have electrical failure, and issues with the oxygen sensor. My car has had regular maintenance done on it. No signs or symptoms of transmission failure beforehand. Happened instantly overnight. Tcm is not in stock anywhere and i suspect that is the culprit due to other mazda owners similar situations.95k miles.
The car we purchased for my 20 year old son in january 2016 has had several repeated transmission issues and a defective sun roof. After three weeks of ownership, the car's at code appeared and the car broke down on two occasions and was towed to russ transmission in toughkennamon, pa.as a result and to our shock and dismay, in february, the car had a $2800 rebuilt transmission installed. Conversely, after six return visits to the transmission mechanic, he has replaced the cellenoids, the computer and associated wires. However, the car continues to code "at" within 3 days of each of the 6 return visits to the mechanic.! like the transmission mechanic and my 21 year old son, we are both frustrated and angry with mazda and the vehicle! please provide a solution or assist us with this formal complaint against mazda.i look forward to hearing from you.thank you[xxx][xxx] *dlinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3. The contact stated while driving 50 mph the vehicle shifted into third degree independently from the fifth gear. The automatic transmission, not traction, and check engine lights all illuminated. The vehicle was stopped and once it was restarted the vehicle operated as designed. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for diagnosis and the contact was informed the transmission fluid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The vehicle was returned to the mechanic who then informed him the transmission would need to be rebuilt. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage 87,000. Dt
Failure of clutch assembly at 27,000 miles requiring complete replacement.
My boyfriend was in a roll over accident where the airbag sensors were completely ripped off along with the bumper and the airbags did not deploy and the seatbelt did not lock up until he came to a stop.
I was involved in a four car collision.i was third in line, and was hit really hard from behind and then hit the car in front of me.my air bags did not deploy and my seat belt did not lock.i slammed into the steering wheel and busted my forehead open.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda, mazda3.
The warning chime for seat belts not being used is inaudible on the 2008 mazda3 even with all accessories turned off.the dealer explained that they were changed due to customer complaints that previous years were too loud and persistent.this is a very serious safety issue and the dealer checked it out and declared "that's the way they are".
The vehicle when in motion attempting to brake has soft brakes that when engaged, the brake pedal moves to aprox. 1 inch from the floor. The brakes only slightly engage, however, if needed the abs system and the braking ability is hindered when hard stopping. The rotors and pads were replaced, and the brake lines bled hoping to solve the issue. Yet, further diagnostics show that the abs control module is faulty.
Break pedal movement necessary to activate brakes increased dramatically without warning. Activation of brakes requires brake pedal to be close to the floor of the pedal compartment. By "close" i mean with 2-3 inches. This occurred suddenly while in motion on a city street. After the increased travel of the brake pedal when applied, the brakes do activate to slow and stop the car but tend to more quickly actuate brakes which then require increased pedal pressure to stop motion of the car. This is not the normal brake system actuation and makes controlling break pedal pressure much more difficult. In wet road conditions this might present a dangerous condition. This occurred on february 19, 2018. The car will in be factory dealership repair shop on feb. 22, 2018.
This is for a 2008.5 mazda3. The issue i am reporting is with a "soft pedal" caused by a malfunction in the abs system. This problem began when driving over a bump and simultaneously pressing down on the brakes. The brakes and abs system engage and car slows down. However, after that, the pedal loses pressure and needs to be pushed all the way down to the floor in order to get the car to stop. This issue can be fixed by activating the abs system again and coming to a complete stop. However, when braking over a bump again the issue continues to happen. It looks like this issue has recently started to become widely reported for mazda3, mazda6, and ford fusions. I am seeing that there is an investigation opened in december 2016 for the ford fusion and the mercury milan. I would like to report that this defect is also evident in mazda's as well. There is a lot of confusion as to what is causing this problem and it seems most people go and replace their master cylinder, calipers, brake pads, ect. In order to fix the problem. The problem looks to be with the hydraulic's in the abs system.
Airbag light is on.....lost power steering at only 110,000 miles...abs break system not working
Brakes became spongy after hard braking at interstate highway speed of 65 mph.afterward, sporadically, brakes would require several pumps of the pedal to build enough hydraulic pressure to stop the vehicle.i'm reporting this incident now after learning about ford recall 19s54, nhtsa identifier 19v904.brake parts on this car were made by fomoco.abs hydraulic unit, p/n bvsn-43-7azd, was replaced by mazda dealer to correct problem at a cost of $1200.
The brake pedal goes too far before engaging. I've had the brake fluid replaced and after about 6 months, the problem has occured again. The research that i have done shows that it is a problem with the abs actuator.there's appears to be a fault that allows pressure to bleed past the valves in the actuator.this is a serious problem as stopping distance is affected.there needs to be a recall.
The brakes normally function correctly except for when, and for some time after the abs activates. After the abs activates you must push the brake petal nearly to the floor before the brakes engage.usually, the brakes seem to "reset" after 3 or 4 hard braking attempts.
While driving approx 75 mph on a highway, my power steering suddenly failed, and simultaneously my brakes failed (felt like they locked up, as they became extremely difficult to push pedal). I had to shift suddenly in to neutral in order to reduce my speed and pull safely to the shoulder. This same incident also occurred on 8/10/2012.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. While driving approximately 10 to 15 mph in the rain, the brakes failed when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle continued to roll on its own and eventually stopped. The failure recurred numerous times. The manufacturer was notified. The contact stated that the vehicle had no traction control. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.
Tl * the contact owns a 2008 mazda3.while driving 65 mph, the steering wheel suddenly seized.the contact depressed the brake pedal, but the brakes failed to respond.the vehicle spun and crashed into a guard rail.the contact was transported to the emergency room by ambulance and was treated for bruising, whiplash, acute neck, back, shoulder, and leg traumas.the manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was previously repaired according to nhtsa campaign number: 10v374000 (steering).the vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was unknown.
I was driving on a 30 mph road near my apartment and when i went to brake while moving, the brakes failed on my mazda 3. I was pressing the brakes and then all of the sudden the pedal went to the floor and the car continued rolling. Luckily the car was not going fast and was able to roll to a stop with just the hand brake. My car only has 104,000 miles on the odometer. There were no lit up indicators on the dashboard and no warning signs before the catastrophic failure.based on my trip to two mechanics and the dealership, the abs unit failed and allowed air into the system which causes a catastrophic loss of brakes without warning. This is a serious and potentially deadly flaw that i believe mazda should pay in full to remedy.this seems to be a common safety problem in mazda cars from about 2004 to 2016 based on my research. I found multiple other sources that had the same problem.
When i brake, the rotor separated into two pieces effectively removing my front brakes. Upon inspection of the rotor, it looks like they preferentially rusted at the interface between the rotor body and where the brake pads grab. It seemed strange, like a defect and no one i talked to had ever seen this before. May have just been a freak thing but figured i would report it because the situation could have been a lot worse if i was on a highway.
My daughter noticed at when stopping that the steering wheel would shack.upon having the dealer look at this issue they said it was due to hi-speed stopping, and that it could be corrected by replacing the rotors and pads with oem parts.i think that at just 17,000 miles that this should not be a issue.i could only speak to a customer service rep and not a district rep, and was told they would check into this and get back to me.this never happened.
After driving on snow covered road, abs warning light comes on and abs is non-operational.the abs would resume function after at least 30-45 min of driving. Dealer stated that snow became trapped in abs sensor but problem cannot be resolved.abs failure occurred 3-4 times over the past winter when abs was essential.
While turning through an intersection on an extremely cold day (below -10 degrees fahrenheit) driver depresses brakes on an icy surface.ant-ilock braking system fails and vehicle begins to handle unexpectedly.brake warning light and abs warning light illuminate.after ~2 miles of driving, system still inactive.driver pulls over and shuts off vehicle for 30 seconds.when vehicle is restarted, only the abs warning light still active.after braking in safe location, abs system activates, and warning light goes off.dealer investigation states that the malfunction is likely caused by extreme low temperatures.no corrective action taken.
Brake rotors warp early on 2008 mazda 3 causing excessive vibration when braking over 45 mph and causes the steering wheel to shake.
I own a 2008 mazda 3.on this particular mode of mazda the brake and gas pedals are less than 1/4 inch from each other.i have been in numerous near misses with several cars, the most recent being today because alot of times when you go to step on the brake pedal you get the gas at the same time because they are so close together.
First incident occurred at 25,900 miles; brake warning light appeared on console dash.dealer identified a failure of the abs (anti-lock brake system) module which was leaking brake fluid.dealer replaced abs module under warranty.second occurrence at 37,600 miles; brake, abs, and traction control warning lights appeared on dash.dealer identified failure of the abs module which had stopped communicating with the pcm.as a result of this second failure, the abs and/or traction control system was not functioning normally.dealer could not identify a root cause for the consecutive failures of the abs module.cost to replace the abs module was quoted by dealer at approximately $1,600.00 (part + labor).updated portable 02/24/11
Power steering was cutting out at random times. Dealer has replaced power steering pump motor.
Vehicle: 2008 mazda3 5 door semi-automaticafter idling for approximately 15 mins. There was a complete loss of power steering. I restarted the vehicle and changed gears with no effect.i drove the vehicle home without power steering.the next day the power steering returned with further incident.
Power steering cutting out at random times. Very hard to steer. My young grand daughter almost had a crash. Power steering cut out three times before i got it to the dealer. (replaced power steering motor -see 10315633 from the same complainant).
After i was in lengthy traffic jam entering bwi for departure on thursday august 5th, i pulled to the curb to let out passenger.on restarting my 2008 mazda 3i, i noticed it was much harder to turn steering wheel--i thought i had a flat tire.then i noticed the yellow steering wheel indicator on the dash.i could turn the wheel, but it took much more effort than normal.my wife checked owners manual and mazda's suggestion is to restart the car.ultimately i did so and the power steering resumed - with no indicator light glowing.since then i drove the car 300+ miles without another incident.
This is not directly related to the power steering pump recall issue.the recall work has been performed on this vehicle by the dealer.i am writing to complain about a bigger issue regarding "design negligence" by mazda as it relates to the placement of the power steering pump on this 2008-3.you see, the pump (an itegral part of the steering and vehicle safety control system) is mounted outside the car's frame, just forward of the passenger front tire.it is basically just behind the passenger headlight/foglight/bumper/quarter panel assembly.this location makes it very susceptible to damage in even minor accidents, rendering the vehicle uncontrollable and unsafe in the very instant where control and maneuverability may keep others from being injured or killed.what brought this to my attention was when a deer recently ran into this very location and rendered the vehicle uncontrollable and therefore undrivable.my daughter (who sustained a concussion) was driving the car at the time and was very shocked and surprisedthat even though the car was technically drivable (minus quarter panel, leadlight/foglight and part of the bumper cover) she could not physically steer the car.in addition, the officer writing up the accident report tried to maneuver the car off of the road to a safer location and was also unable to physically steer the car.there was nothing obstructing the turning of the wheel in either direction.i would hate to think what might have happened if this accident occurred at a higher speed and on a busier roadway or highway.this type of public health safety and welfare issue needs to be investigated and prosecuted.car manufacturers need to be made to locate critical safety, handling, and manueverability components/equipment in places afforded some reasonable measure of protection and survivability in minor traffic accidents.
I drive a 2008 mazda 3 hatchback. Recently my wife was driving the car in hot day (about 95 degrees) and the power steering just went out. The car's equipped with a power steering failure indicator light and it did not turn on when this happened. This is the second time this has happened under very similar circumstances. The car worked fine after being parked in a garage for 24hrs or so when the power steering failed last time. Updated 08/19/10updated ivoq 08/23/10
2008 mazda 3 approx 28k miles.after a few minutes of slow moving traffic on a hot day - power steering failed, with warning light on. Looking into this problem on this vehicle - this is a wide spread problem of mazda vehicles of steering failures in hotter operating conditions.this information is easily seen with a simple internet search.we have an appointment to look into this - but it was funny that there was no acknowledging of a known problem during the initial call.
After idling forabout 10 minutes in a parking lot, the power steering light came on and the wheel locked. After cooling down , was able to steer and drive to dealer.three weeks later, the car has not been repaired because parts are on back order with no estimated time of shipping.
Steering wheel locked up on the highway as i was curving to the right. Caused my car to veer off the road and ran along a rail until the i braked the car. I could not turn the steering wheel and that caused the accident. Last year i had the mazda serviced which they had fixed the recall supposedly. But this is the second time that this happened. I may not be lucky the next time.
We bought our mazda 3 in august of 2008.we live in ct and my son goes to college in ri.he has the car with him.he has complained numerous times that he has no power steering.just recently the power steering was lost on i-95 when he was exiting.this isa very dangerous situation and it seems mazda is aware of it but has not ordered a recall.
I have a 2008 mazda3. Once when we were in florida and again this week, the power steering failed. Both times the weather was extremely hot. My husband put approx. 1 ounce of power steering fluid into the power steering receptacle and both times the problem was corrected. When in florida we took the car to furman mazda in tampa and they said there was no code in the car and if it happened again to bring it back. This week it happened again and again my husband put about 1 ounce of power steering fluid in the car and it was corrected. We called ray price mazda in stroudsburg, pa. Where we purchased the car and they told us to bring the car in and they gave us a rental car to use until the power steering pump and lines are replaced. They told us that there is a problem with the power steering pump and also the lines are not big enough. We were fortunate both times to be able to park and stop the vehicle without incident. I believe this is a real safety issue if it would have happened when we were somewhere where we couldn't safely get off of the highway. Thank you.
Power steering on 2008 mazda 3 went out and indicator light came on.fluid level is good and vehicle has 33,000 miles (original owner).fortunately i was driving low speed and close to home as it was almost impossible to steer.started the vehicle today and the problem is gone.noted significant number of similar complaints so i want to ensure nhtsa knows about it.will be taking to the dealer next.
2008 mazda 3i. Steering column shuddered violently when brakes wereapplied at high speeds (60 mph).
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3.while driving approximately 40 mph, the steering wheel became extremely stiff and the power steering warning light illuminated.the contact was unable to maintain control of the vehicle and was involved in a single car crash.a police report was available.the vehicle was towed to an authorized dealers collision center to repair the body damages.the vehicle was not examined for the cause of failure. I drive a mazda 3 2008, 5 door with power steering.the power steering suddenly went off as i was turning from a busy street left into a parking lot.i was able to control the car and parked.the owner's manual said to turn off the engine wait and restart. If light stayed on call dealer.after 10 mins the indicator light stayed off.i was able to drive the car home without further incident.i am taking the car to the dealer.i went online mazda users websites, jdpower, about automobile, etc. And discovered that this is a persistent (back to 2008) to current( 5/27/10) problem.when does such a problem rise tot the level of a recall?this is a dangerous condition!
The contact owns a 2008 mazda, mazda3. The contact stated that the vehicle was on in the park position for a few minutes; however, when the contact attempted to drive, the steering wheel was very stiff and the power steering warning light illuminated. The vehicle was shut off for approximately 30 minutes and after she turned it back on, it began to function normally. The failure has since recurred intermittently. My car is a mazda 3 sedan 2008 model under warranty. The power steering failed 3 times now randomly while the car is in motion. The power steering indicator lights up and the steering feels very heavy when the problem occur. The problem goes on and off. My service advisor told me he cannot fix the problem because during that time i was in the dealership, the problem is not happening. I told him, why wait for the problem to occur before you fix it. This is a safety concern and should be dealt soon.
At approximately 55 miles an hour the in-tire pressure monitoring system's rim attaching nut corroded off of the valve stem on the tire. Tire pressure dropped immediately and had to stop and pull off the road. The valve stem fell into the tire once pulled over and inspected. All 4 tires all corroded evenly and need to have the stems and nuts replaced. I've opted for a rubber valve stem whilst submitting complaints. I still have not had the 3 other tires fixed. Replacement non-aluminum tpms are 35-50 a piece + installation.1. Cheap nuts that crack and fall off tire stems. 2. Aluminum stems that corrode completely removing the threads.3. High speed crash hazard.
My 2008 mazda 3 was idling in the parking lot on two separate occasions and when i went to back out my power steering light comes on and i'm unable to steer my car. I am afraid this is going to happen while i'm driving, and cause someone to get killed. My power steering fluid is above the max line and everything seems to be alright. After turning my car on and off several times it eventually starts working correctly.
The contact owned a 2008 mazda 3. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle started to veer to the right causing the contact to crash into afence and the mile marker. Hot day, vehicle was running for 20-30 minutes without moving. Power steering stopped working. Was advised to turn it off then on for ten minutes, worked fine.
I was driving my 2008 mazda 3 "s" and when i heard a loud pop and the power steering light came on and a growling sound coming from the car.trying to pull over was difficult as there was no power steering.mileage on the car is 38500. Just 2000 miles over the factory warranty.upon researching this online i have found that there are numerous complaints for failing electric power steering pumps in the 07-10 mazda 3's.this seriously needs to be looked at as this could lead to an accident.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. While driving 60 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The contact had to apply excessive force to the steering wheel in order to turn the vehicle. The power steering warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The technician diagnosed that the power steering module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
My steering is tight unavailable to drive.
I was driving a 2008 mazda 3 which i purchased new.it had about 25000 miles.i was driving around a curve when the power steering suddenly went out.i crossed the double yellow line nearly causing a crashsince i wasn't prepared for such a hard turn. I contacted mazda service department and they stated they were aware of the defect and they sent a tow truck for it.i was given another mazda 3 for a replacement while mine was being fixed.after roughly two weeks of driving it the exact same issue.i was once again driving down the road and the power steering went out.they once again sent a tow truck and gave me a different car for a replacement.while talking to the service manager where i bought my car they said they were aware of this problem.the issue was defective power steering lines.these lines corrode from the inside and then get into the power steering pump causing it to fail.it took them six weeks to get my car back to me.they said it took so long to get it repaired because they are having trouble finding that many replacement parts.
Lost all power while driving and turning. Abs, brake , ps , battery lights on dashilluminated, car looses steering and then the engine dies. Battery discharged as per load test.alternator tests fine. Happened two times after the power steering manufacturer recall was performed to remedy the same issue.
I was driving my 2008 mazda3 in heavy traffic on a 90 degree day and the power steering failed.we heard a thump, like running over a pavement reflector, then 20 seconds later the power steering light came on.i had to use two hands to pull it off the highway.after a restart, the light went off and the power steering came back.
Power steering goes in and out while driving
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3. The contact was driving approximately 60 mph when the steering wheel became abnormally stiff causing the contact limited ability to steer the vehicle. The power steering went out on our mazda 3 while driving down a busy road. It happened unexpectedly and severely enough that my husband had difficulty controlling the car and had to pull over. All fluids were full and we have regular maintenance done on the car. Called our mazda service department and they tried to charge us but said we barely slipped in under the warranty timeline so the part was covered. Now we find out there is a potential recall looming for this issue. This could have been a disastrous situation and mazda's handling of it was sub-par to say the least. They gave us a loaner and are fixing the car at no charge but their position when we had the car towed to them was that we should be paying for the repair. They took no ownership of the problem at first and never bothered to mention this was a persistent problem they were seeing, especially in the '08 mazda 3.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. While driving 5 mph, the power steering warning indicator illuminated and the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The contact stated that the vehicle exhibited the same symptoms as listed in nhtsa campaign number: 10v374000 (steering). The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
The power steering in my 2008 mazda 3 failed the day before my brother was supposed to take it for his road test.my car has been sitting at my dealership for 4 weeks now, and the new estimate time for the parts replacement is mid-july.according to them, they have over 40 cars in their parking lot alone waiting for the same part. And mazda usa has yet to recall it.they provided me with me loaner car, free of charge, but i am only 20 years old so my mother had to use it and i have to use her vehicle. It has created a bit of stress seeing as she drives a ford expedition and the gas is twice as much as mine. And i have just received my second monthly bill in which i do not even have my car.
Normal freeway driving to an off ramp, to slow traffic to power steering failure while in traffic.high effort necessary to exit car to nearby restaurant.after approximately 1.5 hours power steering was again fully operational.drove car to dealer, code 1099, replaced bp4l-32-410 pipe, bbm4-32-68z body, 4 ea gaskets 9956-21-400 and fluid.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. The contact stated when taking the vehicle to the dealer for its routine 3,000 mile maintenance, the dealer advised that the power steering module was exhibiting failure. The dealer stated the power steering failure was a common occurrence and would be replaced at their expense. The contact was unaware of the exact repairs being made to the vehicle. The vin was not available. The failure mileage and current mileages were 32,000.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda, mazda 3. While driving 70 mph, the power steering locked and she was able to use extreme force to turn the steering wheel onto the emegency lane. The vehicle was turned off and when it was restarted,it began to function normally. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure; however, the power steering fluid was replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 20,000 and the current mileage was 28,000.
I have a 2008 mazda 3. While in florida last winter i experienced a failure with the power steering during extreme heat and humidity while i was in bumper to bumper traffic. I pulled off into a parking lot with much difficulty. My husband thought maybe due to how hot the outside temperature was, maybe we used up power steering fluid. He was able to drive the car to a nearby auto parts store, bought power steering fluid and added a small amt. He was surprised that it only required less than an ounce. After a rest period, the car regained power steering and we never experienced another problem. We did have a mazda dealer in florida check it out and they claimed nothing showed up on the computer. Well, over the 4th of july weekend when we were experiencing a lot of hot, humid weather the same thing happened again. It seemed that after you shut off the motor and allowed the car to cool off, the power steering returned. We contacted the dealer in pennsylvania where we purchased the car and they insisted we bring it right in as long as the weather wasn't hot. They rented us a car and kept our car for a week to complete repairs. They installed a new power steering pump and new hydraulic fluid lines. So far, we have had not further problems. We could have been in a very dangerous situation if we had been driving at normal speed on the highway when this occurred. Both times, we were almost at a standstill. The only similarities were the extreme heat and humidity and that we were using the air conditioner.
Sitting in parking lot, engine and a/c on, then tried to pull out, power steering failed; had to wait one hour for car to cool before the steering came back on. The power steering pump failed, needs to be flushed, common problem with the mazda 3's apparently.at least it did not happen on the road.
The steering has locked up on multiple occasions rendering the car totally disabled and unable to be controlled.this happens randomly.the power steering pump was changed some months ago but the steering lock up happened again in may of 2014after that fix.we were told the power steering fix should have taken care of it.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3.while the contact was parking the vehicle, the power steering light illuminated on the instrument panel and the steering wheel locked.the vehicle was towed to the dealer for repairs and has remained there for two weeks because the parts are on back order.the current and failure mileages were 17,000.
We were driving the car in the usual manner when the power steering went out making the car very difficult to steer.this only happened once but was very scary and potentially dangerous.the car returned to normal once it was shut off and then re-started sometime later.
Aeveral recalls for 2008 mazda3..... However my vin isnt assosiated with any and i have all the problema. On 9/15/10 my daughter was driving her '08 mazda3in nj on int. 78 when her power steering failed and she lost the ability to steer the car..the car had to be towed 40 mi. To our mechanic where the mechanic discovered and informed us of the recall.she has not been notified by mazda of this significant threat to her safety.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to start. After a few attempts, the vehicle started, but there was no power steering. The vehicle was driven to the contact's residence very slowly. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired in 2010 by star mazda in glendale, california for the same failure per an unknown recall issued by the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired this time and the dealer was not contacted again. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
2008 mazda 3 5 door, approximately 39,000 miles. Driving on interstate in heavy traffic at ~10 mph. Heard a clunk-like noise and the power steering warning light came on. Realized i had lost power steering. Pulled into a service station, checked fluid and belts. Nothing looked to be wrong from the outside. After 20 minutes or so, re-started car and power steering had been restored. No similar problem since.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3. The contact stated that the vehicle experienced loss of power steering assist while driving at various speed and making turn. The power steering failed and the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The parking brake and power steering assist warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that the failure occurred five times in two days. The contact mentioned that an unknown recall repair was completed on the vehicle for the power steering, however the repair had not corrected the failure. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that a recall repair was completed for the same failure and it was a one-time free fix and provided a case number. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
The power steering keeps going out on my 2008 mazda-3.when it goes out the little dashboard indicator light comes on, and its nearly impossible to steer my car.it tends to happen when im driving above 60 mph for some reason.it is very scary when it happens and could easily cause a wreck.my car is barely 2 years old and it definitely should not be having problems like that.i believe this is a manufacturer defect and nothing i did to it.furthermore, when i took my mazda into the local dealership they not only seemed to know exactly what i was talking about(as if they've seen this problem more than once) but they told me that there is no 'official' recall as of yet.then they told me the power steering pump was cost me $800-900 to fix.i really cant afford to pay that outrageous amount of money to have it repaired and shouldn't have to!i am 26 years old & bought that car under the assumption of getting many good years out of it with no problems.its been a great car and i really like (with the exception of its recent power steering problem as formentioned). Please help!
My car was included in a mazda recall of the power steering system. Since the repair was completed my steering has performed in an erratic, unpredictable and sometimes dangerous manner. In three trips to the dealer the car performed normally and because no fault codes were generated, no repairs were performed. However this does not negate the fact that the steering is failing and that my safety is being compromised.
Sudden loss of power steering while traveling at moderate speed.upon sudden loss of power steering the car pulled heavily to the right causing me to nearly hit a large tree on this very narrow road.
Mazda 3 power steering. W/o any warning my power steering went out on pulling onto a busy highway w/ my 2 yr old son in the car. Pulled over turned my car off then back on and the power steering was fine. I checked power steering fluid and it was full. I have not contacted the dealership yet because i was researching to see if anyone else ran into this problem w/ their mazda 3.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. While driving approximately 5 mph, the contact noticed that the power steering light illuminated and the steering wheel locked. When the failure occurred the contact had to use extreme force to turn the wheel. The vehicle was taken to a service center where she was informed that the failure was in the power steering mechanism. The contact called the dealer and was told that they could not offer her any assistance. The vehicle had not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The current and failure mileages were approximately 48,000.
I own a 2008, mazda 3.it has about 34,000 miles.i was in rush hour traffic on route 75 just outside of cincinnati when all of the sudden my power steering went out.i could barely turn the steering wheel and four lanes of traffic were directed off an exit because of an accident closing the highway..this was extremely difficult with no power steering.i got off the highway and turned off my car, preparing to call a tow truck. When i started the car again the steering worked.i don't understand and am not sure what to do.i commute an hour to work everyday. I am afraid to drive my car.
I have a 2008 mazda 3 with power steering issues.i did get the recall repair fixed in oct 2010 but the same issue occurred again this week (jan 19th 2011).i took the vehicle to the dealership and they tell me that it is the electrical part of the recalled pump and not part of the recall.they refused to repair it or show me other cases like this that where taken care of but not mine.i have reviewed close to 1000 complaints and issues where mazda paid for a loaner car and made car payments until this issue was fixed.i am not wiling to pay $920 for an issue that should be covered 100% by the dealer with this recall.this is very dangerous and i am willing to go to the next step to make sure justice is taken care of before a death happens (more deaths) from the lack of responsibility of mazda.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda, mazda 3. While the contact wasdriving approximately 45 mph, an unexpected loss of power steering occurred. There was difficulty turning the steering wheel which caused the vehicle to travel into a parking lot uncontrollably. The contact was able to gain control. My daughter was about to pull out from a parking space in a shopping center when she noticed the steering wheel would not turn for her.i looked at the dash and a light with a steering-wheel and explanation point was showing.i told her to put the car in park, shut it off and then start it up again.she did and the warning light was still was there and no power-steering.she tried this a couple of times. It was then i called my husband and explained the situation.he called the dealer who told us to bring it right in. After a couple of minutes with it off and switching places, i started it and it was still not working.i had to drive it several miles with no power to the steering-wheel.wow! talk about taking a step back in time.my daughter could see me struggle to turn the steering-wheel.when i pulled in the driveway the power came back on out of the blue!this is a vehicle i now no longer trust for safety especially at high speeds.
The power steering on my 2008 mazda 3 suddenly gave out on me while i was stopped in traffic and the power steering fault indicator light came on. Re-started the engine and it was fine after that. This is a huge safety issue while merging through traffic.
1. While the car was stopped for more than 5 minutes the engine was running including the air conditioner2. Loss of power steering3. Stopped the car and waited for a while and then restartedthis has happened twice in the past 2 months.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3. While driving approximately 35 mph, the contact experienced a loss of electronic power steering assist and as a result, crashed into a curb. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostics where the technicians advised the contact of nhtsa campaign id number: 10v374000 (steering:electric power assist system), which the vehicle was included. The technician agreed to repair the vehicle under the recall but would not cover the repairs for the damage to the wheel due to the crash. The vehicle was not repaired. On about july 16, 2015 the power steering failed making it extremely difficulty to steer vehicle.i called mazda dealer to explain failure and asked if they would repair under recall.they said mazda would only honor recall repair once.i do not believe mazda repaired the issue.iwould expect them to provide a fix that prevents this failure from reoccurring. Note:on 1/27/2011 i had taken vehicle in after receiving recall notice regarding power steering.vehicle power steering was repaired by byers mazda in columbus ohio and road tested to confirm repairs.
Loss of power steering:(2 times) --on two different occasions i had lost the power steering in my 2008 mazda 3.the first time was during the summer of 2009.after the car was idling for about 10 minutes, i went to drive off and there was no power steering.i turned the car off and checked the belts.everything seemed fine.i then started the car and the steering was working like normal.the second time was in april of 2010.i was in stop and go traffic for a little while.after the traffic cleared i was getting up to speed and steering became very difficult to steer.i pulled over, shut the car off and restarted a few minutes later.steering was back to normal.i brought my car into the dealership for scheduled oil change a few days later and told them about my steering incident.they looked at the power steering components and noticed an 'issue.' the dealer kept the car a few days for the new power steering component part to come in.they replaced the part and gave me a loaner vehicle free of charge.
Loss of steering, immediately fixed itself but with steering wheel light on dash. Vehicle in motion. Loss of ability to steer vehicle. Vehicle was in motion.
I was advised of a recall for a potential power steering (#6010h) in september of 2010. Unless you already had the symptoms, they advised to do nothing until a second notice was sent, as parts were in short supply. It would seem 4+ months would be more than adequate time to secure the parts. I drive on windy 2 lane mountainous roads every workday; failure of power steering assist on these roads could be deadly. Why is it taking mazda so long to correct this problem?
Failed power steering for 2008 mazda 3: i had no indication that there was a problem until it was to late. I was stuck in traffic and near my mazda dealer whenthe power steering went out. Unable to turn steering wheel at idle, but able to steer as the car speeds up--but had to put much effort into it. I bought the car brand new. I was unaware of any recalls for this particular problem. Car is still in the shop for part replacement. Despite part replacement, i'm sure there will be more steering problems in the future. This is major safety issue.
While driving my car i completely lost my power steering going about 55 mph, we live in a very rural curvey area. At other times i have been going in reverse or driving and my car would shake and just shut off! this.would happen would turning onto.the road or going down the road. It happened at different speeds.sometimes the car would instantly start back up or i would have to push the car in a safe area (if possible) and wait. I have a 5 month old and 8 year old son having a reliable car is extreme priority for us, i'm so scared of my car. We do normal maintenance and i took it in to be looked at when it shut off and the mechanic couldnt find anything noticeable. He said i would basically have to just start replacing parts and see which part fixes the problem.
Airbag light is on.....lost power steering at only 110,000 miles...abs break system not working
Was driving in heavy traffic going about 5 to 10 miles per hour at each braking interval. Was ready to move again and heard a funny plastic click noise from the front. Thought something was wrong with the latch to steering wheel or had run over something on the road. Went to turn the well to make sure nothing was there and steering wheel began to stiffen extremely. After a few seconds a warning light came up in the dashboard that was of a steering wheel and a exclamation mark. Was able to brake and roughly turn the wheel to pull to the left median out of traffic. Went to glove box and pulled out vehicle manual and looked up the warning indicator that lit. It tells you to pull over and park safely and to turn the vehicle completely off to see if the warning will go out or stay on. I turned my vehicle off and gave it a few seconds and turned it back on. It went out and the power steering was restored. I called the dealership and was told they have recently heard of this issue and to bring it in sometime this week if possible. I told them i would bring it in that morning. I took it to them and when waiting to sign papers and turn over my keys was told another customer in front of me was having the same issue with their vehicle. The dealership says the repairs are at no cost to me and they offered to give me a rental car during repairs. One day to have repair kit done.
2008 mazda 3, i was simply parked and restarted my car and the power steering failed. My car has less than 4000 miles on it. I did an internet search and found many many other people have had the same problem, all with "new" cars (less than 12000 miles). I was told the power steering pump failed, and there is a "national backorder" in their words. If there is so many places ordering power steering pumps, id think a recall should be ordered before someone gets hurt.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. While driving approximately 65 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was previously repaired under nhtsa campaign number: 10v374000 (steering). The dealer diagnosed that the power steering pump and fluid lines failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 78,000. Updated 09/09/15*ljthe consumer stated the problem was resolved. The manufacturer paid for the parts and the consumer paid for the repair. Updated 12/10/15
Tl- the contact owns a 2008 mazda 3.the contact stated that while driving approximately 65mph the power steering warning light illuminated and she lost all power steering function.the vehicle was driven home and when she restarted the vehicle the light was off and the power steering functioned normally. The failure recurred yesterday on the highway in heavy traffic.the vehicle was dropped off at a mazda dealer for repairs.they stated the vehicle was not under warranty and the repairs would be done at the owners expense.the failure mileage was approximately 36,000.the current mileage is approximately 38,000.rd
We own a 2008 mazda 3s, purchased in summer, 2008. It currently has 43,000 miles. Recently, i was driving in heavy traffic and the power steering failed.i had to drive the rest of the way home with no power steering.the next morning, the car was fine, but the following day, the ps failed again.i contacted the dealer, who knew exactly what the problem was, even without inspecting my car.we were told the power steering pump, electric charger, and all lines would need to be replaced at a cost of $950. We researched this problem online and discovered that mazda issued a tsb about this.as we looked further, we discovered that this has been an ongoing issue for this car, with numerous complaints as early as may, 2009.several people were without their cars for months because the parts were back-ordered.some people stated that their dealer told them there was a backup of 600 orders for this problem.this is certainly a safety issue, as accidents could occur easily with sudden failure of power steering.i feel fortunate that i did not have an accident, and i cannot believe that there has not been a recall for this problem. Because of mazda's lack of ownership of this issue, i have to pay to repair something that is clearly a manufacturer defect.i am confident that, if you look into this issue, you will find numerous repairs and people who were placed in unsafe situations because they had no idea that this problem could happen.thank you for your consideration.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3.the contact was stopped with the brakes depressed when the power steering warning light illuminated.as the contact attempted to accelerate from the stop, the steering wheel became extremely stiff.the contact moved the vehicle off the roadway and shut the engine off.when restarting, the vehicle operated as normal.the vehicle was neither diagnosed for the cause of failure nor repaired.the vin was not available.the failure mileage was 16,000 and the current mileage was 17,500.
Left my car running in drive, when i came back out 10 minutes later the power steering did not work.
Vehicle was traveling in left lane on interstate and suddenly turned into concrete divider.
While driving my '08 mazda3 5-door, 2.3l on the i80/94 expressway in stop and go construction traffic, i lost power steering.idiot light came on.was able to steer car home; just no power steering.per owner's manual restarted car and problem was gone.power steering has not been a problem since.happened with about 36,000 miles on car.
Loss of power steering during the stop and go traffic, when the incident happened the vehicle was moving hardly, required excessive force. Turned off the engine for few minutes to cool down, after few minutes power steering started working again, steering kit replaced by mazda dealer.
I have a 2008 mazda 3. I bought it in 2009 and immediately started having problems with the steering. I heard a loud pop and the steering light came on. The steering wheel was hard to turn so iturned the car off and then turned it back on but the light was still on ,so i turned the car off and on several times until the light went off ,then i drove it to the dealership and told them the problem . They told me that mazda does that from time to time to just turn the car off and back on again.i have been having this problem since i bought this car. August 17,2010 was the worst it happen five times while i parked with the engine running waiting on my girls to get out of school. This is very frustrating and something to be done before an accident occurs.
When placing my mazda into reverse on 3 separate occasions, the power steering has failed and the steering wheel has totally locked.i am not able to steer the car at all.when i have turned the car engine off and restarted the car, the power steering will reactivate.i took the car into the dealership and they told me that there was "no problem" and charged me $42.00 for the "checkup".within 2 days, the incident recurred twice.the car is now back at the dealership for repair.a staff member told me that there was a "technical bulletin" out about this problem and i searched the internet and found this website.this is a major defect in this car obviously based on the number of complaints i evidenced on-line.
Hi - i saw in a news story that you opened up an investigation into mazda3 power steering. This is a problem i've had a couple of times over the last couple of months. I have a 2008 mazda3 purchased new in early april 2008. Basically, the power steering has gone out twice on me - the vehicle is still fully functional and the warning light does go on, but it just requires a lot of muscle to turn on the car. Both times, it was on a warm day (i live in chicago) and toward the end of a relatively long commute (1 hour 15 minutes+) of mostly stop and go traffic, so i wondered if it may be heat-related but that could also be coincidence. The first time, i drove it the remaining mile or so and was able to park it. After restarting the car, power steering still didn't work. When i came later (either a few hours or the next day), it was fine. Second time was similar, i was able to take better mental notes of what might have triggered it - this time, it went out shortly after i cut the wheel all the way to one side when the car was practically stationary. Again, hard to tell if that was what triggered the problem or if it was sheer coincidence ... This time, though, i pulled over and turned the car off for just a couple of minutes and when i restarted it, it was fine. Not sure what else you might need to know... I am up-to-date on my servicing and the first instance occurred about a week and a half after service at mazda (a week in which i hadn't really driven the car since we were on vacation with our other car). I have not yet contacted mazda about the problem, i was just going to ask them to take a look at it next time i brought it in.
My daughter was driving our 2008 mazda 3 home from vacation.she was in new york city when the power steering failed.she stopped car.re-started apprx 30 minutes later it was ok.the power steering failed again while still in new york.she was also having problems with all the electrical components.she could not steer car and had to stop in the hov bus lane. She was alone in the car with her newborn baby.this car only has 38000, less then 3 years old, always maintained at 3000 intervals.we had to pay over 600 to have fixed and were told there was nothing wrong with electrical.some components failed after having it back for 2 days, returned to dealer and had to pay almost 200 to have repaired.we are out over 800 for a problem that should not have happened.in addition we had an extended warranty that covered almost nothing.
I was driving out of the parking lot and my steering wheel was extremely hard to move. I was able to pull over and check the steering fluid and there wasn't a leak. I was scared as the car was very hard to steer and it could have been worse if that happened in the highway or high speed road.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. While having the vehicle serviced for nhtsa campaign number: 10v374000 (steering), the dealer did not repair the vehicle as written in the recall. The recall stated that dealers would replace the power steering pump and lines free of charge. The dealer reportedly stated that they would replace the power steering reservoir and lines, and that replacing the power steering pump would be at the owner's expense. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and discrepancy. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000. The vin was not available.
Driving home from work, approx. 20 mile drive, when 5 miles from home the power steering warning light went on and then the power steering went out. Drove the rest of the way home with no power steering. Looked at the owner's manual, recommended shutting off engine and then restarting. Did that and the power steering was back. Has not recurred since then. May have dealer look at it and try to get them to replace due to recent news on this issue.
Power steering failed while driving, third time in a week this has occurred.has yet to be fixed.
Power steering failure, when idling or driving for long periods of time the power steering light illuminates and locks up during operation. This happened to me on the highway while doing 65mph with my family in the car which almost caused a three car pile up because the driver in front of me stopped short luckily the shoulder was empty and i was able to pull to the left with all my strength.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3. The vehicle was included in nhtsa campaign id number: 10v374000 (steering:electric power assist system) and was repaired. After the recall repair while driving approximately 5 mph, the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The power steering warning light also illuminated on the instrument panel. In addition, the interior and exterior lighting failed. The failure recurred intermittently while driving at various speeds. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 82,000.
2008 mazda 3 has electronic variable orfice in the power steering systemthe fuse that controls this valve blew for the first time on may 11th, 2009. It has blown 2 additional times, including today in rush hour traffic.unlike other manufacturers, when this fuse blows, the valve closes, cutting off all flow to the rack, disabling the power assist. When the fuse blew today, i was in the middle of an intersection, turning left.i had to struggle to turn sharp enough to avoid hitting a car waiting to go straight.the valve should have been designed to stay open when power is removed, which would cause the assist to be at is greatest amount, not losing all assist by closing.
I had just bought my 2008 mazda 3 and as i was getting ready to leave the dealership with it, when i went to back out of the parking space the car had no power steering when not 1 hour before i took it for a test drive and it was fine. The power steering light was on. When i took it down the road to the service center they stated that this is common for this vehicle when the weather gets hot. It was about 95 degrees that day. The power steering pump was replaced. I told the service manager that i was lucky this didn't happen while i was driving or something serious may have happened. He agreed.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3. The contact received a recall notice associated with nhtsa campaign id number 10v374000 (steering:electric power assist system). An authorized dealer was notified and the contact was informed that they were waiting on the necessary parts to arrive before performing the repair. Approximately one year later, the contact was still being informed that the parts were not available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The vin was unavailable.
I drive a 2008 mazda 3. On three different occasions the power steering has gone out. Today was the most recent, the second time was about 3 months ago, and the first time was another 3-4 months before the second time. The last two times i was parked, started the engine, tried to drive and realized the power steering was out. With great physical effort i was able to repark the car, stop the engine, and after about 10-20 minutes the power steering began working when the engine was started again. The first time the power steering went out while i was driving. Luckily i wasn't driving in a lot of traffic and was able to pull into a nearby business. It took great physical effort to turn the car and i think it's very possible that i would not have been able to steer the car and find a safe spot to park if i had been in lots of traffic or driving on the highway. This could be very dangerous and result in crashes. I was lucky that all three times i was either driving slow or parked.
Power steering failure while driving resulting in extreme difficulty to steer out of the way of oncoming traffic to get onto the shoulder.mazda is replacing the power steering pump, covered under warranty, as the car has only 26,000 miles on it.
I was driving on the freeway at rush hour and my power steering light came on. Within seconds i lost power steering and my car was incredibly hard to steer off of the road. I had it towed to a mechanic and he called today to say that the light is out now and the car is driving fine. He doesn't know what happened. My car only has 48,000 miles and i am afraid that this will happen again with dire consequences. I will take it to the dealer on monday. My sister also has a 2008 mazda3 and she also had power steering failure last year at 35,000 miles which the dealership fixed under the warranty. This is a serious safety concern. Please do something!!
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. The contact stated when driving at 45-50 mph and attempting to brake, the steering wheel would vibrate uncontrollably. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was informed that the tires were the cause of the failure. The tires were replaced at the contact's expense. The failure persisted and the contact went back to the dealer for another repair. The manufacturer would not provide any assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000 and the current mileage was approximately 25,000.
1) stopped for fuel. Turned car off. Everything had been operating fine up to this point.2) turned car on after refueling. Power steering light came on immediately and power steering was inoperative. Tried turning car off and back on two or three times to no avail. After approximately 1 hour of driving without power steering, stopped again for lunch. Turned car off. 3) after lunch, turned car on. Power steering seemed to be once again operating properly.this is the second time i have had this issue since the car was purchased new in 8/2008.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3. While driving at approximately 10 to 30 mph, the power steering failed and vehicle became difficult to steer. The contact was able to correct the power steering by making unknown repairs under the hood. The failure recurred within one week. The dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure and current mileages were 37,000.
Power steering light on dash came on then loss of power steering leading to heavy steering.according to owners manual, we were advised to turn off the engine, then back on.even then, the light came on again and i lost power steering again, leading to very heavy steering.after those two incidents the power steering seems to be working ok.there is plenty of power steering fluid in the reservoir.i called mazda dealership and explained the issue in detail and was told there is no problem, especially because the light is now off and normal steering resumed - he advised there is no need to bring in the car.this is a safety hazard, especially for someone like my wife who lacks upper body strength.the effort required to turn the wheel without power steering is a lot, even for a man like me.slow speed steering is almost impossible without power steering.
Power steering function was lost twice last year in my mazda 3.the pwr steering malfunction light came on and i had little control of the steering function in the car.
I was driving my 2008 mazda 3 on i-75 on 3/22/2011 when i suddenly lost the power steering and the car became impossible to steer. I continued drifting to the right uncontrollably, struck a road sign, and ultimately ended up in a ditch. This all occurred 12 days after i took the car to the mazda dealership to replace the recalled power steering pump. I don't understand how this can happen only 12 days after the power steering pump and pump line were replaced. I wonder if the pump had indeed been replaced or if a new pump was installed correctly. Or maybe the new pump is just as defective as the old pump!!!it will cost $8,000-$10,000 to repair the damage and i am now responsible for the $1,000 insurance deductible. The only good news is that the side impact and head airbags were deployed and that i was not injured badly.i feel that mazda should be held responsible and should be ashamed of how they have handled this recall. I have read many of the complaints on this site and others and there is no question in my mind that this accident was caused by the failure of the power steering system.
Power steering failed on2008 mazda 3 causing a crash. Mazda has acknowledged the problem on the vehicle in it's letter to mazda 3 owners but stated it had no parts to repair the defect. While still waiting for an official recall notice from mazda, the power steering on our car failed on a busy city street causing the driver loose control of the vehicle which resulted in a crash.
While sitting in traffic on a hot summer day i went to change lanes to grab a coming exit, in the middle of my lane change the car became extremely hard to turn, to the point that i almost hit the center median.once i was going straight i looked at my dash and the power steering light was on.i pulled over i turned the car off an on and my power steering came on.the next day i went to the mazda dealer and they quickly recognized the problem and put in a new power steering pump.the fact that the mazda dealer was aware that this type of problem was possible on my car but did not tell me led to me almost being in an accident.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda, mazda3. While the contact was driving approximately 25-30 mph in the process of making a left turn, an unexpected loss of power steering occurred without warning. The vehicle was driven to the residence cautiously with excessive force applied to the steering wheel. The vehicle was in the process of being taken to a dealer for diagnosis. A recall notification was received the same day of the power steering failure. The recall was associated with nhtsa campaign id number 10v374000 (steering: electric power assist system). The contact stated the experienced failure could have been avoided if the recall notification was not mailed in different phases as specified in the recall due to the lack of parts. There was significant concern of a safety hazard. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was unknown.

I have a faulty paint job. There is multiple spots that are flaking including on the trunk. There isn't a single dent in the car. I took it in they said they sent it off to mazda but no one else complained about this so tough luck.
Paint of inferior quality.vehicle paint finish appears normal in medium to dim lighting.however, under bright lighting, microscratches are apparent over the entire vehicle.new car stock at the dealer i purchased from as well as another dealer in the state shows the same defects.
The right font engine mount has broke. This was a recall on the 2006 model mazda 3 but it appears that mazda has continued to use the recalled pat o late models of various models.
My boyfriend was in a roll over accident where the airbag sensors were completely ripped off along with the bumper and the airbags did not deploy and the seatbelt did not lock up until he came to a stop.
No accident - - the camber setting on the rear wheels of the mazda 3 causes excessive tire wear on the inside of the tire.mazda dealers act like they are unaware and blame poor tire rotation.it is difficult to detect as the outside of the tire looks fine, but the inside of the tire where the contact is actually being made is slick and may actually lead to a blow-out, thus an accident.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. While driving approximately 25 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise coming from the front driver side of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, but was not diagnosed or repaired. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the front driver side upper cross member was fractured. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.
Vibration at 55-63 mph. Tires wearing on inside in diagonal pattern on front. Worn completely to the core. Third set of tires.
Like other mazda 3 owners, my complaint concerns the rear tire camber. I noticed this condition after the 2nd set of tires. I didn't think that much of it during the first set of tires as the tires lasted for apprx 50k miles. But the 2nd set started to vibrate and rumble loudly after about 12k miles. I had them aligned and rotated but the noise and wear became worse. I purchased a 3rd set and again had the wheels aligned and the set lasted for about 30k miles. But i must state that the vibration and noise was unbearable, at this point. I finally found a mechanic that understood the problem. The rear control arms were fixed (did not have an adjustment). The only way to correct the problem was to replace the control arms (with an adjustable set). The car now rides smooth and quiet. My question and complaint...mazda must have known about the problem, otherwise the replacement parts would probably be the same as the original, nonadjustable. So why, didn't mazda offer assistance? the repair cost me over $625, not including the prematurely worn tires. I was very pleased with the car until this occurred. Now i question mazda's integrity and may never purchase another one.
After each tire rotation, ~every 10,000 miles, tire noise becomes progressively worse.at 47,000 miles, mechanic states that tires are worn unevenly, due to alignment issues.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda3 sedan. He noticed that the tires were wearing faster than normal. The dealer stated that thenegative camber caused the tires to wear and that they are aware of the defect; however, they cannot correct the defect. The manufacturer stated they will not offer any assistance. The current and the failure mileages were 27,514. Updated 09/23/09.*ljupdated 09/23/09
Rear camber on left wheel is off -2.7. Local shop says that this is too much and needs to be replaced by installing an adjustable arm since the stock parts have no adjustment. Local shop says there are no signs of any impact such as a hard hit on something or curb strike. Mazda dealerships say 99.9 percent of the time this is because of a curb strike and it would not be covered under warranty. I became frustrated and suspicious after reading many similar complaints online. I also had to replace stock tires after 19k miles despite checking tire pressure, rotating them, etc. I thought then maybe it was due to poor quality tires but now suspect it is mazda's negative camber issue.*ln
Since i have purchased my vehicle i have to get the alignment done as often as i get the oil change done. When you are going over 45 mph the steering wheel shakes like you are driving a 4 x 4. There is also a horrible roaring once you get to 45 mph. The roaring and shaking goes away right after i have my car aligned, but, after a couple of weeks it starts coming back. I have changed the type of tires that i put on my car thinking it may help, but, it does not seem to be any different with the different type of tires i have put on my car.
Rear camber is out of adjustment causing premature tire wear.
In early august 2009 at approx. 21k miles when i performed my 7500 mile tire rotation i noticed that all the 4 oe good yearrsatires were very worn on the inside, not the thread area but the area where the sidewall starts. I had noticed this before but had not thought much of it as it wasn't too bad. I drove on a 500 mile trip shortly after this and became more concerned . I had the alignment checked at the destination and it was within mfg. Spec. The alignment people said the cause was probably due to the negative camber on the rear wheels which at -2.3 and -1.7 was probably the reason for the wear and that i should replace the tires. Mazda does not provide for adjusting the rear camber. Not having the resources at the time, thinking maybe it was a overzealous sales effort, and to me the tires still looked usable i didn't replace them. Now at 27k miles i have the resources to replace them and the area on the inside corner in much more worn. Mazda gives no explanation, one said should rotate @ 5k miles, another says they put crappy tires on the vehicle. On the internet, people who replace the tires say they continue to have the problem and that it is caused by the excessive negative camber that cannot be adjusted. This is a safety issue in that, with a sour economy many people may not be able to afford replacement tires, many people may not be able to or pay to rotate tires and many people may not check them at all. At the minimum mazda should provide for adjustment of the rear camber.
I purchased a new 2008 mazda 3s in october 07 with toyo tires. At 12,000 miles my tires were down to safety bar...had to purchase new tires.the toyo tire dealer told me that the rear camber on the car was the problem.mazda says camber cannot be adjusted.toyo tire people say the problem is the aggressive rear camber and that is the way mazda built it.i only got 17,000 miles on new set of tires.after many attempts trying to get mazda to fix the problem, and them always saying the camber was within specs. The dealer finally admitted there is a problem with the car. But there is no way to fix the problem.if this is their design flaw, they should put a disclaimer with the carat time of purchase that you will have to purchase tires every 15,000 miles.after reviewing on line, i came across several blogs of mazda owners that have experienced the same problem.mazda needs to provide the part to fix the car.who expects to have to purchase tires every 15,000 miles when they are rated for 40-60,000 miles.at this time, my car will not pass state inspection because of the tires and i will have to purchase new ones.this is wrong....and mazda needs to accept responsibility for its poor engineering/design and inform new buyers of thispotential problem with their car.mazda acts like this is normal tire wear because the mazda 3s has "spirited handling".
2008 mazda3, alignment within manufacturer specs, but there is uneven wear on the rear driverside tire.as generally a tire as 4 parts of tread, the 3 outer treads are exactly the same side and the 1 inner tread is excessively worn.there is no angled wear on the tire toward the excessive wear, 3 high treads and 1 low tread.mazda apparently has a rear camber defect on 2008 models which they are unable to fix.
I own a mazda 3 5 door hatchback.i love the car.i do have an issue with the rear camber of the car.i had to put a new set of tires on the car after 24,000 miles.i rotated my tires every other oil change and the road noise was unbearable because the rear camber is too extreme and wears the inner treads too fast.so when you rotate the rear tires to the front they make very loud noise. I put anew set of tires on at 24,000 miles at the dealer and when i rotated them at 27,000 miles i have extreme road noise again.the dealership said the only way to fix the rear camber issue is to purchase a camber kit.i shouldn't have to pay for a factory defect.i've read on the forums and most other mazda 3 owners are having the same issues with rear tires wearing down too fast. Please fix my problem. This could be a safety issue as well, being that the tires wear down very fast.
I got a flat tire yesterday because my tire pressure sensor valve had fallen inside my tire. This is the second time that this has happened since i purchased the vehicle in 2008. Thankfully, i was stuck in rush hour traffic and only going 20 mph. I realized my tire was flat when the senor light went off and my car veered to the left and fortunately it was the emergency lane or i would have hit a car.took it to the service shop and the tps sensor now needs replaced because it had corroded and damaged the inside of my tire as well. When the mechanic looked at my other tires and tps sensor/stem valve was corroded. The third tire is fine for now but is showing signs of corroding as well. The 4th one was replaced a couple years ago and appears ok. Mazda needs to recall this problem asap and reimburse everyone that has had to fix this issue. I could have been in a serious accident if i was going any faster than 20mph. Its sad that someone has to get seriously hurt or die for a recall to happen. To replace both sensors and fix my tire i going to be paying over $300 for mazda's issue. I take great pride and care of my car, i bought it new; nothing on that care should be corroding when it is only 5 years old. This is ridiculous that so many people are having the same issue. Not our fault as consumers that this is happening, fix this now mazda!!

Tpms light alerted low tire pressure condition.found tire with low pressure.during inspection of tire,a small air leak was discovered at the valve stem mid section of threads due to corrosion. The tpms sensor assembly replacement was necessary to correct the failure.approximately eighteen months afterwards, the same exact failure re-occurred in another tpms sensor.the aluminum alloy valve stems on these sensors are highly susceptible to corrosion damage and need to be re-called.this failure is a common problem with these sensors, especially where vehicles equipped with these are driven where road "salting" is routine.the potentially dangerous low tire pressure condition caused by these faulty stems may lead to an accident resulting in death.
While driving on highway on july 29, 2013 i have experienced a serious safety issue with my 2008 mazda 3 hatchback. The issue resulted in significant pull to the left side and lost of air/flat tire on the front driver side wheel. The reason behind this fault was a defective valve stem. After inspecting all the other wheels, it turns out all the valve stems are cracked. Some initial research tells me its a common problem among those cars and mazda will not do anything to fix it.at this point i have called mazda dealership and mazda corporate office and none of them will do anything about this safety issue.total cost of repair will be 4x $120 for all tpms sensors with valve stems and 2x $115 for both front tires.hopefully there is a recall coming soon...
The tire pressure light came on as i was driving on the highway. When i stopped to fill my tires, the force of the air hose blew the tire pressure sensor into my tire. I had to have the sensor replaced, and was told that the other 3 sensors were close to wearing through as well.
Factory tires (goodyear rsa) wore out in <15k, excessive inside wear. Replaced with bridgestone potenza grid g019 205/50/r17. Started showing inside wear around 45k, and extremely loud road noise at 50k. All need to be replaced again. Tires have been rotated as per warranty requirements. Alignment is factory specifications. Car has never touched a track and is used as a commuter vehicle. Online reports have blamed the camber which is not adjustable on the mazda 3. So this issue will continue throughout the life of the vehicle. Serious defect and dangerous.
The first time this happened, i was driving on the highway at approximately 75 mph in the center lane of an express road.while driving, the tpms sensor warning light/sound came on and the tire went immediately flate - total catastrophic failure.i was able to pull off to the side of the road without further incident and when we looked at the tire, the tpms sensor had fallen out causing the tire to go flat (it is attached to the valve stem)the treads were corroded and the nut cracked causing the sensor fall out and the tire to go flat.this one was replaced.8 months later, the same thing happened but this time on the driver's side front tire.the nut cracked and the sensor fell out causing the tire to go flat.thankfully this time it happened just after i had pulled off the highway for a bathroom break and was not driving at speed when the second incident occurred - although if it had happened a few minutes prior, i would have been driving at approximately 75 mph in wet road conditions.upon examination we found that the thread were again corroded, causing the nut to crack and the sensor to fall out.this is a very dangerous situation - catastrophic failure of a tire at highway speeds is a recipe for disaster. This situation should be taken very seriously by mazda.
About a year ago i bought 4 new tires for my mazda 3.six months later i went in for my routine alignment and tire rotation.they said my two rear tires were worn down to showing the wiring and could potentially cause a blow out.they refused to put the tires back on for safety concerns.i had to purchase two used tires that had about the same mileage my other tires hadon them.again 5-6 months later i go into les schwab for my tire rotation and alignment and again they tell me my two rear tires are showing excessive wear.when complaining about having to get tires so soon they stated that mazda designed the car this way to have a toe in alignment.basically this will be a recurring issueunless i put a $500 camber kit on the back.when i asked about that they said it may change the way the car handles and have louder road noise.none of this was mentioned by mazda when i purchased that car back in 2008.not only is this issue causing me to spend money every 5-6 months but if i were to go to long without checking my tires i could have a blowout while driving, possibly causing an accident, injury or death.i see this as being a very big issue with the mazda and i would like to see mazda have to recall and fix this problem.
Tire valve split and entered tire well causing it to go flat while driving at 70mph on highway. Not only did i have to replace the tire valve 115.00 $ but i had to replace the tire since the little ways that i drove on it to pull over shredded the inside of the tire!!! this is now the second valve that has been replaced, luckily the first was discovered by the mechanic while replacing my tires. The other two seem to be on there way out as well.
The tire pressure monitoring system is unreliable.specific incidents:1.warning light flashes or lights when the tire pressure is within the specification limits.this has been an intermittent problem for at least a year.2.one tire pressure sensor fell apart on inspection, after warning of a leak.dealer replaced it at no charge.3.one of the tire valves (and hence pressure sensor) was leaking air when the valve cap was removed, replacing the valve cap held the air in the tire.dealer adjusted the tire pressure sensor at no charge.4.one of the tire pressure sensors failed.dealer stated it was no longer under warranty and charged me for replacement.car is not driven off road.sensors seemed to be more irregular after driving on rough highway roads, where a layer of asphalt had been removed.

I cannot believe that mazda has not recalled the tpms on the 2008 mazda 3's.all of the tpms have had to be replaced on my vehicle.currently, i will be getting the last two fixed/repaired coming this monday.all of them were either cracked or corroded.the first incident resulted in one of my tires being "shredded" on the inside.part of the kit broke off and was inside the rim.i was accused by a dealership that i must have been driving on a flat tire.i can't believe how many times the tpms warning light has come on.this is obviously a defective part.mazda should be recalling this.
February 2014 1st valve stem and sensor broke.this week 2nd and 3rd valve stem and sensors broke.$90-100 each to fix. Ruined one tire and caused sudden flat which could have resulted in accident.
I was driving down the interstate when all the sudden the pressure sensor light went off for no apparent reason at all.i had assumed that is was just some kind of electronic malfunction and continued to drive for a bit until i noticed the tell-tale signs of a flat tire.the was odd since i had recently purchased new tires with less than 1000 miles on then and the was no debris in the roadway that would account for the rapid deflation. When i pulled over the tire valve and was gone and there was a hole in the interior sidewall.when i brought the car into the tire place he pulled the tire off to try to find the sensor to no avail.he said in his 35 years of experience he had never seen anything like this.on closer inspection we noticed a crack in another one of the valve stems.the dealer claims this is due to environmental conditions and not due to component manufacturing, but it seems odd that it would happen to multiple valves likes that.as an addendum, the only other time i have to call road side assistance was when i random got a flat tire and when i tried to refill the tire the valve pushed in.i took it too the dealership where they promptly replaced the valve and sensor without charge.i am glad i had new tires with run flat technology.it this had happened with the old tires i can only imagine how much worse the situation could have been.
Tire valve stems fall out of the tires:my tires have been leaking air periodically for about a year.i noticed one of the tire valve stems was missing the outer nut cover.when i went to add air to the tire, air came out around the valve stem.i carefully drove to my garage and before i got there, the entire valve stem had blown out of the tire.the mechanic says the threads on the valve stem were all oxidized and the nut rotted off.after inspecting the other tires, we noticed another one was missing the outer nut also and heavily oxidized.i had the mechanic pull off all 4 tires and install new valve stems to all tires.i believe this to be a major issue with mazda and see people complaining all over the internet and a recall should be considered.
I was driving on the highway traveling about 65 mph when my tire warning light came on, followed immediately by my front driver's side tire going completely flat. Luckily there was nobody too close to me, so there was no accident when i swerved onto the shoulder of the road. I changed my tire and made it to a service center where i was informed that it was my tpms and valve stem assembly that had corroded and failed, causing my tire to immediately go flat. Not only did i have to pay to install a new tire ($300) i had to replace the destroyed tpms sensor and replace another one that was also corroding. ($100 ea). The entire incident cost me about $500 due to a design flaw from mazda that i have no power to avoid.the issue is that it is illegal to remove or not have the sensors re-installed, as they are a safety feature. The irony is that i have to pay $100 each to install a component that causes one of my tires to immediately deflate randomly in the next 3-5 years, depending on when it corrodes again. It is infuriating that i have to install a "safety feature" that will randomly cause me to lose control over my car in the near future.as it is right now, i will be forced to drive with a component that, over time, will corrode and fail, causing me to lose control of my car, then re-install the exact faulty component. The sensor / valve assembly should have never been made of a material that is susceptible to corrosion in the first place.i was lucky this time that this didn't cause an accident, but if the situation were different i could have easily been killed or have killed someone. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. Both mazda and the government have been aware of this issue for a long time now. What is going to happen when someone does die from this, and it comes out that the issue has been known for years, but nobody did anything?
Approximately three years after purchase, i got a flat tire driving on 1-290 in central massachusetts. When i looked at the issue, it was clear that the tire sensor valve had gone into the tire. I replaced said tire, and since then i have the issue three more times on all four tires total. The second and third time were two consecutive days april 2013 and the fourth one today 12/17/13. The sensors seemed to be rotting out and the stem ends up corroding. I have spent at least 1,000 in the last year and a half fixing this issue and it is very infuriating to say the least. It seems that looking online this is an issue which many have had, yet there has been no recall.
Tire sensor came on during drive into work.made to call dealership to have it checked out by lunch time the rear passenger side tire was completely flat and the stem of the tire pressure monitor had completely snapped off.when i got the car to a dealer they state 3 of the 4 monitors had corroded to the point they should be replaced.this added nearly $400 dollars to getting the tires on the car replaced.how is it a tire sensor can't last as long as the tires on a brand new car?if a tire sensor is added to a car to make it safer and more efficient maybe it should last more than 3 years and not cause the car to become unsafe.
Own a 2008 mazda 3. Purchased used, but was sold newand serviced locally to original owner.tpms indicated low tire.when tried to put air in the tire, valve and sensor broke/corroded and all the air came out of tire.flatbedded to dealership out of town where i was located.. New valve installed and tire fixed .part was $120 for valve sensor piece.called my local mazda place to see if this could possibly be right for such a small piece and to see if it should be under warranty.they confirmed no warranty and average price.now a second tire indicated low, and tried to check pressure and as soon as the tire valve cap was turned and removed stem/sensor broke again in this different tire and nowhas lost air .now needs replacing.afraid this will be the same issue for the remaining 2 tires.need to still get snows off, but don't want to pay for the stem/sensors at $120 a piece!have read numerous complaints online of this issue!!a recall needs to be done ... This is unsafe if it happens when driving as many have mentioned!!mazda dealers told me i must have hit a curb or from potholes in the winter.this is not the case... Not for all 4 to have this happen.
The tire pressure monitoring system seems to be oversensitive the warning light stays on even when the tires are properly inflated.
On april 8th 2011, i was driving my 2008 mazda 3 when the tpms light came on.i stopped at the first gas station to put air in the tire.as soon as the filling hose came in contact with the valve stem, the valve stem fell out into the tire, resulting in sudden loss of air pressure.after bringing the tire to get repaired, i was informed that the tpms sensor was no good because the valve stem is corroded.it was also pointed out the 3 other wheels have corroded valve stems and the nuts that hold them in place are all cracked and that if these nuts crack off the valve stem can fall off resulting in sudden loss of air.it seems to be an issue with the aluminum cap corroding to the valve stem from road salt. The dealer said "it just happens" and that the parts are not covered under any warranty.the sensors are made by siemens vdo.i am just glad i wasn't on the highway when this happened because it could have been serious!nissan had a similar problem that turned into a recall.
On 4/19/2011 i was driving when my tpms went off.i pulled into a gas station to put air in my tire.as i put the air pump to the valve, the valve simply disappeared and the tire went completely flat.i called aaa and took the car to a repair shop.they said the tire was perfectly fine and replaced it (without the tpms).i eventually replaced the tpms, which was not covered under warranty.on 4/25/2011, i was driving on the highway when the tpms went off again.this time another tire had gone completely flat.when aaa arrived, the serviceman found the broken parts of the piece that holds the valve stem (and the tpms) in the wheel.without this piece, the valve was able to slip into the wheel (which is what had happened to me on 4/19).the pieces were completely corroded and had cracked in 3 places.the dealer replaced the tpms (which was not, again, covered under warranty).only after i insisted did they replace the remaining two valve stems which also had clear signs of cracking.this will most likely happen again in the future as the two metals of the valve stem and the piece holding it on begin to corrode.updated ivoq 06/28/11
Tire pressure sensor constantly turning off onrandomly.dealer says they are constantly getting complaints. No recall.so when there is an actual tire problem, you may not take the warning light seriously. Because it turns on all the time for no reason.
Tire valve stem corrosion on 2008 mazda 3. On 5/27/2011 tpms indicator came on while driving on the highway. I pulled into a gas station and attempted to put air into the front driver side tire that was flat and the stem valve went into the tire. After seeing that, i checked the remaining valves and all are corroded. The front passenger tire valve is about to go into the tire and the back tires valves are cracked. I now have to have my car put on a flat bed because my half spare is on the front driver side and to avoid an accident and not having another spare tire, this car is now a death trap and is very unsafe. I also noticed that other owners have filed complaints online with www.aboutautomobile.com with the same problem with the same year and make. This needs to be investigated as my other tires could go flat at anytime now which makes it a hazard to myself and others.
Tpms failure. The light constantly keeps going on and off. One of my tires was very low overnight. I went to a gas station to get air, and the valve was missing. Completely off. I have read other reports on the same problem with same make and year. 2008 mazda 3. This should be recalled.
Tpms valve stem broke while checking tire pressure.
Tire pressure sensor modules have been failing repeatedly.nothing wrong with the tires, but these things are made of ceramic (apparently), get full of salt and/or other road detritus, and then fall apart, causing a flat tire plus additional expense to replace the fancy things.instead of reporting a problem, which is supposedly what they are for, they are the problem.i've had to replace three so far; i've taken to buying them online in multiples; god only knows what a dealership would charge me for one plus the installation.this is going to be the ruination of my very nice tires, as i never know when one is going to fail again, but it's a lead pipe certainty that this is going to continue.i'm considering simply replacing them as they fail with ordinary valve stems, and covering the dashboard light with a bit of electricians' tape.not quite the intended outcome, i'm thinking.....
2008 mazda 3 5 door hatchback.i am the original owner, vehicle was purchased new from dealer.the nut that holds the valve stem to the tire became corroded and cracked and fell off.this resulted in a rapid deflation of the tire while traveling at highway speeds.after inspecting the other 3 tires, i noticed that 2 of the remaining 3 nuts were also severely corroded and cracked all the way through.this occurred after i have owned the vehicle for 20 months.when taken to the mazda dealer, they replaced the valve stem where the nut had fallen off, but not the other 2 stems that were corroded and cracked.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda 3. While driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle veered out of control and the steering wheel became difficult to maneuver. The tire pressure monitor warning light illuminated. The contact discovered that the front passenger side tire valve stem failed and caused the tire to become deflated. The vehicle was not diagnosed, but the tire was replaced. The failure recurred with the front driver side tire, but the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.

The tire valve stem cracked while checking air pressure on one of the tires. After that the otherstems looked like they were ready to fail. Had them all replaced.
At 71,xxx miles 2 out of 4the tire pressure monitor sensor valve stems have failed. The valve stem caps were oem gray plastic caps. All parts of this system on this car are oem. The valve stems corrode below where the schrader valve seal so the tires goes flat in just a few seconds.
When i attempted to remove valve stem cover the valve stem cracked and came apart. I had to have the complete tpms valve replaced. I then noticed that the other valve stems looked in the same condition. The mazda dealer said that this was just aging and that the rest were o.k. I am not sure if they are. I said that the stems should not crack just by removing the cover.
Takata inflators air condition never worked well.replaced all parts of air, each year air stops blowing cool or cold air.spent thousands of dollars.
A collision accident
I was driving on the tollway to work yesterday morning, 3/24/2017, i lightly tapped my breaks, and my mazda 3 jumped, hard breaking sensation, and made me swerve due to the car malfunctioning.the automatic transmission light illuminated and went off. Yesterday evening, i started my mazda 3 to reverse out of a parking lot and both the check engine light and the automatic transmission light immediately illuminated and never went off.the gear lights would not illuminate on my panel. My mazda 3 would reverse, but it took a few minutes to get the car to go into drive.i took my car to a mechanic first thing this morning, 3/25/2017, and the transmission needs to be replaced.with no warning and no previous transmission problems, all the electrical components of the transmission are gone and the transmission has failed.additionally, i took my car to the dealership on 3/14/2017, and no one in the service department said my transmission was in bad shape or about to completely fail.i am not the only mazda owner with this problem, it seems to be a very common theme with mazdas.my car has 88,578 miles on it.
Neutral safety switch gone bad and rusty and mazda refuses to help.did research online and found over 500 consumers with the same exact issue!
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3. While the vehicle was at a traffic light it accelerated with both feet on the brake pedal. She attempted to shift the vehicle in reverse but it continued to accelerate and move forward. When she turned the vehicle off, it lunged forward and crashed into the vehicle in front of her. The driver of the other vehicle did not realize it since it made such a minimal impact. She restarted the vehicle and drove onto the emergency lane. She restarted the vehicle several times to see if the failure would happen again and it did not. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer and they were unable to duplicate the failure. The failure and current mileages were 41,600.
2008 mazda 3 s grand touring - front windshield wipers just stopped working.this happened during a rainstorm.i checked the fuses and all looked good.after spending much time online, it appears that many people have had a similar problem.
While driving in the rain my windshield wipers suddenly stopped.after sitting by the side of the road for roughly 15 minutes they decided to start again for about 5 minutes before stopping again .after reading of the exact same thing happening to the exact same year, make , and model, at approximately the same mileage ina 1/2 dozen other vehicles i expect i will have to replace the wiper motor, out of pocket, as this happens just after the warranty ends.
On august 6th, 2010 while driving in heavy rain and traffic at high way speed the windshield wipers stopped. Working. Vision through windshield was severely impaired and i had to stop. I checked the fuses and the windshield wiper fuse was fine. A repair shop said that the wiper motor needs to be replaced. Very dangerous this should be a recall.
Refer to previous complaint 14 july 10, # 10343804.windshield wipers fail again after motor replacement in middle ofjuly 2010, this morning 17sep10.this failure was not a complete failure at this time but the loss of the high speed function of the wipers during a heavy rain storm.again i consider wipers a safety item on a car.there seems to be a on going problem of the wipers on mazda 3 around 2008 year as i have had other people tell of troubles they had or heard of since my first failure.at this time i do not know what will be the out come of repair as i have not been to the dealer.i am very concerned every time i drive in the rain!
Windshield wipers failed again.refer to original complaint # 10343804 14jul10 wiper motor failed, $337.00second complaint # 10356107 17sep10 high speed operation of wipers failed.this second complaint was resolved on 01oct10, $880.00. This time the cause was a bad relay on what they (dealer) called a fuse block assy. Relay is not replaceable you have to replace the entire assembly!i have the old fuse block assembly although they bent some of the connector pins on it! funny i can not find any fuses on it! i no longer feel safe driving this vehicle what with steering complaints, excessive rear tire inner edge wear i have seen on your web sight among other things and the fog light lenses cracking on both sides (app $125.00 ea to get a inspection sticker)on my car. My wind shield had to be replaced after a crack developed from a very minor impact that left a pit you would not have been able to see if it were not for the crack radatinf from it in two directions, i never heard the impact. But wipers failing on a 2 year old car is unacceptable! loss of visibility is instant in heavy rain!
Wiper motor failure, 2008 mazda 3 grand touring. Wipers working fine and in a heavy storm they decided to quit. I am aware that this is an electrical part and can fail at any time, but i have noticed this is an recurring problem for mazda. This needs to addressed before someone gets hurt or loses their life over something that can be corrected.
My windshield wipers on my 2008 mazda 3 stopped working on the highway during heavy rain. Not only was this dangerous but also scary and i feared for my safety as i tried to make my way from the far left lane of 285 in atlanta to the closest exit.i took it to the dealership only to be told that the wiper motor needs to be replaced for $340. I had my last mazda for 9 years and never had to replace the windshield wiper motor. The windshield wipers stall or just stop working altogether when its raining, which is really defeating the purpose.clearly there is a problem that needs to be investigated and these nonfuctining wiper motors with less than a 3 year life span needs to be recalled!!!!!! i am very disappointed and i am not sure if the next car i purchase will be a mazda.
Windshield wipers stopped working during a snow fall and single digit temperatures. There was no ice on the windshield yet.i had to leave the car in a parking lot until the next day.i took the car to the dealer and after sitting in the warm bay overnight they started working again.i picked up the car that night after sitting outside again and they failed to work.i brought the car back to the dealer and was told there was a short in the wiper motor and would be $350!the car is only two years old and 39,000 miles!there seems to be a common thread with the 2008 mazda 3s.this motor should not be affected by the cold and poses a safety hazard to suddenly stop working when it is cold.this should be replaced at no charge.
While driving my 2008 mazda3 from work in a heavy rainstorm, my windshield wipers stopped working causing a serious situation since the windshield was obstructed by rain. The car had to be left along the roadway until hours later when it stopped raining. It was determined by mechanics that it was the wiper motor and it has since been replaced..
I own a 2008 mazda 3 and like others, i am having issues with the wipers not working when the weather is bad!!during a snow storm after traveling some distance, the wipers decided not to work.they just stopped.they wouldn't stay running, so i had to leave the car in a parking lotand have someone drive to pick me up an hour away.had it checked at mazda and of course they worked that day.they have since started to act up again, again on a longer trip and during a thunderstorm.luckily i was able to pull over on this 5 lane highway before getting killed!!i could not see anything during the rain.this needs to be fixed.i have yet to call mazda i am under warranty and hopefully then this will be covered and they won't have some excuse why it isn't covered!
The windshield wipers on my 2008 mazda quit working for no good reason. It happened during a thunderstorm. I was lucky to be able to get off the road because i couldn't see. I checked the fuse and found it to be in working order. The only other explanation would be the motor. I'm in the process of getting my car towed to a dealership.and from reading the other complaints about the wiper motor, this should be a recall. Does someone have to lose their life before mazda will initiate a recall?
My windshield wipers stopped working. After a visit to the shop, i learned that my micro computer was not working and needed to be replaced. This repair cost $729. After some research i found that this is a very common problem with mazda 3s made around 2008.my car is only 5 years old with fairly low mileage, i believe that a defective part caused the problem and this issue should be evaluated for recall and reimbursement. Thank you.
The driver side window appears to be off track, when rolled down i can move it back and forth by pushing it.when you roll it up you have to first push it back into place or it makes a cracking noise.the passenger side window gets stuck and sometimes doesn't roll down.on mazda forums many, many people are complaining about the same thing.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3. The contact was driving 50 mph in rainy weather when she attempted to activate the windshield wipers, but the wipers would not turn on.
I was driving around a turn going approximately 25-30 mph when i lost control of the car. It is believed that the tire suddenly lost air pressure and ran me off the road. I was left in the creek with my two and three year old. Two guys helped me get the kids and myself out the car safely. My car is now totaled due to the failure of the passenger side tire. Tire size was 205 55 16.there was no puncture holes on the tire so no reaason for the sudden loss of air.
In the summer of 2014, i was traveling on a major highway going approximately 60-65 mph. My tire sensor light came on and, within just a few miles, my front driver's side tire blew out. I was able to safely guide my car to the shoulder without having an accident. Upon exiting my car and looking at my tire, i noticed the area around my valve stem was completely corroded. How i did not have an accident is an absolute miracle. On wednesday, july 22, 2015, my tire sensor light came on. Knowing i would be traveling approximately 150 on that saturday, i checked my tire pressure to see my front passengers side was down approximately 5 psi from the recommended 32 psi. I put air in my tire friday night and went away on saturday. On my more than 1 hour drive, my tire sensor came back on. I stopped at a gas station to find my tire psi was in the teens. I felt all around my tire but found nothing wrong. I filled my tire back up to 32 psi and continued on my way. Shortly after, my tire sensor light came on yet again. When i stopped at the next gas station to put more air in it, i noticed the area around my valve stem was completely corroded. It was so corroded i could move the valve stem and allow large amounts of air to come out. I ultimately was able to put on my spare tire but am now looking at a more than $200 valve stem/sensor replacement per a phone quote from my local mazda dealership.as i spoke to different mechanics, they all seem to be well aware of the problem so it's a bit frightening there has not been a recall.

There is also a horrible roaring once you get to 45 mph. The roaring and shaking goes away right after i have my car aligned, but, after a couple of weeks it starts coming back. The contact owns a 2008 mazda, mazda3. The contact stated that as he sat in the vehicle, the valve stem became fractured. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken in for repair and diagnosed as valve stem corrosion. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 58,000.
The tire pressure light came on as i was driving on the highway. When i stopped to fill my tires, the force of the air hose blew the tire pressure sensor into my tire. I had to have the sensor replaced, and was told that the other 3 sensors were close to wearing through as well.
Tpms valve stem broke while checking tire pressure. Took vehicle to tire dealer and found that 3 tpms sensors had cracks in valve stems.

While driving at the full speed limit on the highway in traffic, the front right tire pressure sensor blew off and the tire immediately went flat. I was able to avoid hitting cars while veering across 3 lanes to get to the breakdown lane and call for roadside assistance.took the car to the dealership where they confirmed that the remaining 3 tire pressure sensors were corroded & partially broken, and were in jeopardy of blowing off.called mazda's customer line, argued that this is a safety issue and mazda agreed to replace all 4 sensors at no charge, even though my car was past warranty.i believe they knew that this was due to design flaw.i was disturbed that no alert has been issued to warn consumers and car repair service to specifically check for wear - this is dangerous.i could easily have caused an accident or the sensor could have caused injury or worse when blowing off at high speed.mazda dealer said that this design was used on many makes and models in 2008 (not just mazda), which is even more disturbing.please consider issuing an alert at a minimum.
February 2014 1st valve stem and sensor broke.this week 2nd and 3rd valve stem and sensors broke.$90-100 each to fix. Ruined one tire and caused sudden flat which could have resulted in accident.
Three times in the last 18 months i have had the tpms sensors break off while driving on the highway causing the tire to run flat instantly posing a safety threat.each time i take the tire to the shop and nobody can find anything in the tire and the conclusion is that the tpms was brittle and broke off.i am now uncomfortable driving my mazda 3 because i never know when my tire is going to blow -- not to mention i've had to pay to replace perfectly good tires every time one of the tpms go bad.
2 tpms sensor valve stems were corroded, while filling the tires with air the stems broke off causing tires to go flat. The remaining 2 did not look any better. Had tire dealer replace all 4 at $280 dollars
On two separate occasions, the valve stems that contained the tpms (tire pressure monitoring system) sensors became corroded and fell apart.this happened when i went to fill tires with air because they appeared to have low air pressure.each time, as soon as i applied slight pressure from the air hose to the valve stem, the valve stem disintegrated and was pushed inside the tire.it took very little pressure to push the stem inside the tire.the tire then immediately deflated because air escaped through the open hole.this happened when i was stationary (because i was filling the tire with air).but, judging from the fact that only a slight amount of pressure was needed to push the valve stem into the tire, i believe that this could have happened very easily while in motion at any speed.i feel that it was a very dangerous situation that i was not warned about at any point and, after telling the company about it, i feel that my concerns were not taken seriously.
The tire valve stem cracked while checking air pressure on one of the tires. After that the otherstems looked like they were ready to fail. Had them all replaced.
The contact owns 2008 mazda mazda3. The contact was traveling 40 mph when the tire sensor illuminated and the rear driver's tire went flat. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer stated that the tire valve stem needed to be replaced along with the sensor. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 27,750 and the current mileage was 27,795.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda3 grand touring. The contact stated that the driver was driving 60 mph when the tire pressure sensor light illuminated. The driver stated that the rear passenger tire was flat. The driver then replaced the tire. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 38,100 and the current mileage was 38,109.
The contact owns a 2008 mazda mazda 3. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph, the tire pressure warning light illuminated. After moving off the roadway and inspecting the vehicle, the contact discovered that the front passenger tire was low. The contact tried to add air to the tire when the valve stem fractured. The vehicle was later taken to a dealer where they advised him that the tpms system needed to be replaced due to rust. The vehicle was repaired for the front passenger tpms. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000. The current mileage was approximately 56,000.
The tire pressure monitoring system seems to be oversensitive the warning light stays on even when the tires are properly inflated.
