There are too many cars being manufactured with constantly lit dashboards with no provisions for automatic headlight activation or indication to the driver that headlights might be warranted.this leads to drivers failing to activate their headlights at dusk or during inclement weather (snow, rain, fog) where headlights serve as a safety device rather than enabling the driver to see.this problem is most prevalent in japanese-designed cars (in particular mazda, honda and some toyotas).all cars with constantly lit dashboards should be required to have headlights that automatically activate when either the light level is low or the windshield wipers are activated.a dashboard indicator that the headlights are off might also be a consideration.while drls would be one remediation, it is only a partial one as the tail lights are not activated with drls.all too often, drivers of these vehicles operate with their lights off in conditions that warrant headlight use unaware that they have no lights on and present a less visible profile to other drivers (especially when gray/silver is one of the most popular colors).their dashboards are brightly lit, despite not having any exterior lights lit.
