I was t-boned on passenger side of my mazda cx9 air bags did not work on my mazda.other vehicle air bags did go off.i was traveling about 45 mph when other car plowed into mine.
Brake lights come up intermittently, especially when temperature is low.also, front radar sensor system malfunction and smart brake system malfunction warnings come up also,.this is during the drive.
With no warning the smart brake system malfunction and the front radar system malfunction warnings come on and i am unable to use the cruise control.in addition the parking brake light comes on and the parking brake is not on as i am driving.
In 2017, my car shut off two times, without warning, one time at a stop light and again on the highway going 70mph. We were accelerating at the stop light when it shut off and then driving on the highway. Took the car to the dealership and 72 codes came up. They said it was the dvd players (that they sold and installed!!!) that were causing the issue. They supposedly 'fixed' the issue.now in july 2019, the car shut off an additional five times. Three times while driving and twice in a parking lot. We were on a highway again when the car just shut off with no warning, lights on the dash started flashing, and the power steering went out one of the times. My husband had to put it in neutral, coast to the shoulder, come to a complete stop and then attempt to start it each time. Cars were dodging us every time and luckily we weren't hurt. My children were in the vehicle every single time. We had the car towed to the dealership where 68 codes came up. This time they're saying it's the fuel pump and that they can 'fix' it, but can't 100% guarantee it won't happen again. We were put in a life threatening situation every time, without warning, after giving the dealership a chance to fix it. The car is under three years old and only has 30,400 miles on it.
The infotainment screen containing the backup camera goes blank . The car has 16000 miles on it and has had this problem since new. The dealer has the car multiple times and has not fixed the problem. Research on the internet reveals that there is a major issue with many mazda vehicles. This problem happens on startup and will continue till shutoff . It may or may not come on upon restart

- the car was purchased new from a mazda dealer in may 2017- the driver side cushion heater failed in march 2020. - the passenger side cushion heater failed in november 2020- both sides exhibited the same problem despite the fact that the usage of the passenger side was about 25% of the driver- from the time the cushion heaters failed, we observed random overheating of the back heaters and recorded "hot spots" of up to 149 deg f (picture attached)- while the cushion heaters don't operate, the backs get too hot for occupants (attached picture of skin reaction) and at one point the passenger side partially melted a plastic shopping bag- mazda responded to the complaint that the car was outside of the 3-year warranty (expired in may 2020) and there were no related recalls so the company was not interested in any testing or investigation of the problemattached:- picture #1: temperature ir readings - picture #2:effect of the overheating on one of the occupants
Immediately upon making a sharp right turn into a parking spot, the car suddenly accelerated at a very fast pace without me pushing the gas pedal. My immediate reaction was to press on the brake, but it did not stop.the car slammed into a planter in front of me.the car moved so quickly that it was lodged into the bushes and had to be pulled out by a tow truck. I immediately called the dealer service department and told them what happened. The service manager's immediate reaction was to scoff at the idea that the car accelerated on it's own. My husband met me at the dealer and had subsequently found information about a recall of cx-9 models from 2012 for a similar malfunction. He showed it to the same manager who immediately knew the issue of the recall but was quick to mention it was the 2012 model, not the 2016. The dealer kept the car for a few days and told me it was driven twice and also some info from the computer was reviewed with mazda tech support person.no data indicating any kind of malfunction in the car and the service guy did not have a problem with it in two short test drives, so they said come pick it up it's safe to drive. However, i will never drive this car again.this is the fully-loaded signature cx-9 that they feature in all their ads. I loved this car at first sight and drove it over 24000 miles in less than 2 years.this experience scared me to the point that i will never drive this or another mazda again.i have had over a week to process this experience and am just happy my kids weren't in the car or that i didn't hit someone.i have found several other instances of sudden unintended acceleration online and cannot believe that this happens in 2017.i hope that this documentation helps someone else in my shoes feel that they are not crazy and this does happen.shame on mazda for not fully addressing this issue.
Driving to work in the morning at 5:45am on 06/05/2018 going 65 mph and my car cuts engine power and starts lowly declining pressing gas did nothing and multiple notifications flashing such as vehicle system malfunction, forward smart city brake support malfunction, smart brake system malfunction. I had to pull off to the side of the highway i can't even say i can pull off safely because all power was cut. So let the car sit for 5 minutes while off and then restarted and was able to make it work. I took pictures as everything was happening because i know the dealer ship will say something like "welp it ain't happening here so your car is fine." i am very fortunate when i bought the car i decided to lease the vehicle so i can just take the car back. These malfunctions seem like a very severe problem and i do not want to hang on to the vehicle. Once 30k passes i will be super screwed!i called dealer ship and they are booked out 2 weeks so i cant even take the car in right away, plus they aren't even sure if they'll have a rental for me when i drop it off. Also to mention, ac unit already had to be replaced, and a suspension recall. Worse car i've had so far its sucks because mazda used to be so great. Their service department sucks big time! i never had this type of service or issues this severe with my chevy.08/07/2018 i took care in again for same situation along with ac and all mazda tells me is they are looking into and assure me it will be taken care of this time. (also said last time) i think that they do not know how to fix the issue! i called corporate to ask for a refund and give the car back and all the told me was to give dealership another chance to fix the issue. It is so unsafe to drive and have kids in the car, i am very fortunate to not have my baby nephew and nieces with me when these things were happening.
This incident happened on 31st july, when my wife was driving this car on highway 4 martinez, ca at around 5.00 pm with our daughter (2 years old)returning from daycare. She was driving at approx 60 mile/hr, when the car started giving audio visual warnings on multiple failures and the car started slowing down without responding to the gas pedal and engine propulsion reduced to 'zero'. My wife panicked and was luckily able to pull over on the curb side safely, even though traffic was very high. She stopped the car and turned off the engine and waited for 10 mins and restarted the car multiple times and made sure that no more warnings are displayed, before driving again, however the 'engine warning light' stayed on. After a while she drove home almost 40 miles away very carefully without using any cruise control. Fails to accelerate and change gears.this has been happening since we purchased the vehicle.it has been back to the dealership multiple time and has not been resolved.they are unable to find anything wrong.the engine is a 2.5 l turbo.this happens unexpectedly while driving making it hard to get on to the highway or change lanes.

I just purchased my vehicle about 3 months ago. I was running errands about a week after purchase and was heading home on the highway when the gas notification came on displaying 27 miles left and advised me to get gas. I was about half mile from the exit and the vehicle check engine light came on and it started stalling. Thank fully i was able to get over to the median just in time when it shut down completely. I called roadside and the dealer and explained what happened. I had it towed back to the dealer and they advised me it was because i ran out of gas. I explained it had a quarter of a tank and displayed 27 miles left and it didn't even give me 1 mile to get off the exit. It happened to my husband as well recently and i spoke to a certified mazda dealer and they explained it could be that the gas tank has a dent causing the reading to be off or one of two floats could be damaged and not reading correctly. I was advised this was a common issue with my year but it's not on a recall. I usually get gas when it hits a quarter of a tank but now i'm afraid that i do it at a half a tank. This should be a recall problem as it causes the car to stall immediately which is dangerous. I had kids in my vehicle in an ice storm...i need to have this fixed but it's well over $800.

I bought the car saturday. Four days later, i filled the tank at 2:00 pm for the first time. I then drove about 30 miles. When i arrived home at 5:00pm, i parked in the garage. I noticed the odor of fuel as soon as i exited the car and checked to make sure i had secured the gas cap, which i had. Thirty minutes later, the entire downstairs of our house smelled like gasoline. The garage was consumed with fuel odor, and the fire potential caused us to return the car to the dealership immediately after that. The fuel odor was present within the car as well.
While driving the car in the 287 interstate highway in new jersey, i got the check engine light out of the blue and the car started decelerating in the high speed lane. Luckily i was able to manage and get the car to the road side shoulder. I was not able to start the car after this incident. We had to tow the car to the mazda service center in greenbrook, new jersey. After running the car diagnostics (error code - p0192), they informed me that they had to update the pcm (power control module) software. Thats the only explanation which they gave which made no real sense. They did not provide any information why this issue occurred and what was done to make sure this issue does not occur in the future.
My mazda cx-9 ran out of gas on a major highway (route 90 in boston) and the gas gauge read half full.no 'out of gas'light went on and range (under information) said 191 miles remaining.my mazda dealer told me the software needed to be reset (not done yet as of this writing).it is a major issue if the gas gauge is not reading properly and this is a software issue (a bug?).mazda needs to fix this for all mazda's and issue a recall so it does not happen again.
The push button on/off switch does not protect against turning the vehicle off if transmission is accidentally left in any position other than 'p'. For example its possible to put the transmission in 'r' and turn the vehicle off. For a busy parent (target demographic of this vehicle), this is very dangerous. If on an incline, the vehicle will start rolling forward or backward (depending on incline/slope and r/d transmission position). There should be a safeguard or a beep/warn system to protect the driver/occupantsthis happened to me on an inclined driveway when i accidentally left transmission in 'r' and turned vehicle off. I took foot off the break and got out and realized vehicle was rolling backwards.
Driver stopped vehicle in a driveway with minimal slope, shifted the vehicle in park, turned off the vehicle and exited. Driver proceeded to rear passenger door to retrieve 1 year old from car seat. After retrieving child from car seat, driver felt rear passenger door pushing into her leg, back and head. Vehicle proceeds to roll out of the driveway backward while in park. Driver and child escape vehicle's rear passenger side door, which is pushing them along in the vehicle's path toward residential street. Vehicle continues rolling in park backward down residential street, through a 3-way stop intersection, up a curb, through a yard and into a bush on a private property. A witness who helped retrieve the vehicle on behalf of the driver noted the vehicle was still in park when he tried to remove it from the bush. No one was severely injured but driver has sustained bruising on leg and severe emotional distress.

After a minor rear end accident, the driver front seat now rocks side to side and is distracting and unsafe.it was taken to the local mazda dealership that provided an inspection and said that there is no problem with the seat.they state that it is normal for their seats to rock side to side.how unsafe and frightening.please see attached documentation from the dealership.
Brake lights come up intermittently, especially when temperature is low.also, front radar sensor system malfunction and smart brake system malfunction warnings come up also,.this is during the drive.
I was driving on the interstate and the tpms warning came on. I pull off the interstate and park. There is smoke coming from the right rear wheel and the center of the wheel is extremely hot, too hot to touch. I can feel the heat from about a foot away. There is metal pining and groaning as it cools down, the tire is warm, but not as hot as the center a the wheel.the left rear wheel is cool to the touch, as are the front wheels. I toggle the electronic parking brake a few times and after the wheel has cooled down i drive on. The problem did not occur again in the last 60 miles, however, the right rear wheel now makes a noise when brakes are being applied consistent with the rotation of the wheel.
One mile from home the smart brake system malfunction & front radar system malfunction was displayed. Car was shaking and acting as if the emergency brake was active while the car was in motion.car was slow to accelerate.had i been on the interstate i could have been rear-ended.pulled over to turn the car off and back on.car was okay the remainder of my 20 mile drive.
My wife and daughters took a trip, and on the way home, the engine light came on. When turning on the engine to check the engine light, i noticed that the brake pedal was hard. I was thinking the engine light had to do with the gas cap not being on tight since family purchased gas on the trip back home. I drove the cx-9 to autozone to determine the code for the engine light. The attendant at autozone was unable to register a code. However, i noticed the brakes felt different on the drive to autozone. Although i had to apply more pressure to stop, it took longer to stop. It rolled to a stop. When i got back home, i heard a hissing sound coming from under the dashboard. Mazda's owner's manual regarding the engine light indicates 1.) the fuel tank level being very low, 2.) possible electrical system problem, 3.) emission control problem, or 4.) fuel filler cap is missing or lose. The next morning i drove the cx-9 to see if tightening the gas cap would correct the engine light. During the drive, the braking seemed different. I would press the brake, but the vehicle would roll to a stop instead of stopping. When i was approaching a car stopped at a red light, i had to press the brake very hard to avoid the vehicle. I parked it and called the local mazda dealer. After they performed a diagnostic test, the brake booster was determined to be faulty. I was confused about how a brake booster and an engine light correlates. I'm also trying to understand why the brake system warning light was not activated since this relates to the braking system.after additional research, i'm in complete disbelief that mazda is aware, and it has not decided to address this safety issue. Please take action to have mazda recall the brake boosters to address this issue since it's aware the problem is an equipment/materials issue.

When driving at 35-50 mph, my 2016 mazda cx-9 periodically brakes suddenly while driving to a scrubbing forceful stop tossing things off the back seat, placing me in danger of a rear-end collision. Sometimes a very quick beeping sound is made, "b-r-a-k-e" appears on the panel in large letters --- then the car automatically comes to a sudden stop or it occurs with no notice. I have taken it to the dealer 3 or 4 times only to be told that they could find nothing wrong. No objects of vehicles were immediately in front of me and the sensor was clean when this has occurred.this sudden stopping has occurred on the freeway, in rush hour traffic and on city streets. This has occurred at least 6 times since purchased 03/17/17. I am fearful that this problem will result in injury or death to me and others.
Both rear brakes locked up on separate occasion while driving on the freeway at about 70 mph.each time the brake engaged themselves and locked onto the disk/rotor. This caused the pads to burn up and produce a larger quantity of smoke. On one occasion the rotor became red hot, flame was visible, lots of smoke was being produced, and it warped rotor.every time it occurred i stopped the vehicle and turned it off. After the restart of the vehicle the brakes were not locked but the vehicle would shake as now the rotors were warped an the pads were destroyed. I took my vehicle to the mazda dealership and they informed me that i needed new pads, i did but it was due to the rear brakes locking up on their own. I got the pads replaced and 6 months later it happened again. This time i recorded a video on my phone and showed the dealer ship what i experienced again. This time they informed that i needed, new brake pads(again), rotors, and piston but they did not address what is causing the rear brakes only to lock up on their own creating excessive wear and damage to the brake components. Something is and continues to engage my rear brakes. It last occurred on 10-04-19 and it has only been 3 days since the mazda dealer replaced the damaged parts and under hard braking the vehicle continues to shake which are early signs of what happened before, so its only a matter of time before it occurs again.
Vehicle makes a cranking noise when steering at a slow speed meaning when turning, reversing or slowly going over speed bumps it makes a cranking noise its coming from the front of vehicle i don't know if that normal has been like that since i bought the vehicle, it was taken in due to a recent recall couple months ago for the rear same issues with a cranking noise, now it's the front.
I was t-boned on passenger side of my mazda cx9 air bags did not work on my mazda.other vehicle air bags did go off.i was traveling about 45 mph when other car plowed into mine.

Sunroof exploded while driving approx 40 mph.were in a valley on vacation in colorado, no trees or anything overhead when this happened.we had just closed the windows and turned on the air conditioner as it was getting hot.about 2 minutes later we heard a loud explosion.only when we pulled over did we discover it was the sunroof.
Multiple times while during inclement weather, pouring rain/sleet, the driver's side windshield wiper blade flew off of the car - causing a safety issue with visibility. We had to pull over to the side of the highway and switch to the passenger side's wiper blade, so that we could get to a safer place to be out of the way of traffic. It was night time during one incident and daytime during the other. The issue seems to be the way the wiper blade attaches to the arm.
I heard a pinging sound coming from one of the wheels. When i got out and looked, i discovered the wheels are beginning to flake and degrade. I contacted mazda customer service and was told i would have to cover the cost of replacement as the vehicle is out of warranty.
