Takata recall. I have been waiting for a remedy from mazda for a notification letter i received back in july 2016 to replace the passenger's side airbag. How long does a manufacturer has to comply with a recall? i cannot use the passenger's seat.

2011 mazda cx-9.consumer requests rental vehicle until passenger airbag inflator replacement and front lower control arms recall notices repairs are complete.

Takata recall:this recall has not been repaired within a reasonable amount of time (it has been almost an entire calendar year). I understand there are millions affected, but serious injury or death could result!i fear for my family and young child, when will this be resolved???

Recall in may 2016, as of today per manufacturer recall incomplete. Remedy not yet available

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx9. The contact stated that the passenger's side air bag warning light illuminated although the passenger seat was occupied. The dealer was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 36,000.

My vehicle has two unresolved recalls.the first dates back to july 2015 related to the front suspension ball joint fitting.this has been brought to the attention of south bay mazda on multiple occasions and the issue has not been resolved nor have i ever received a response from them.a second recall was issued for mazda cx-9s related to the passenger side airbag in may 2016.due to the poor customer service at south bay mazda i've taken my business to culver city mazda. Culver city mazda gave me a rental vehicle on aug 8th 2016 while mazda na orders and delivers parts.i've had the rental vehicle for nearly three months with no resolution in sight.it's very stressful to drive a rental vehicle which i will be liable for if anything happens to it while in my possession.it's also very disturbing that these recalls are taking so long to remedy.i'm extremely disappointed with mazda at this point.we're growing more concerned with what the outcome of these recalls will be and for the safety of our family in our car when it's returned.

I own a 2011 mazda cx-9. Another vehicle crashed head on into my vehicle while it was idling stoped at a stop sign when impact accursed . The air bags failed to deploy and both front passenger seat belts did not retract. There were injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was taken to an autobody shop for repair; however, a diagnostic test was not performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 104,585

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. Another vehicle crashed head on into the contact's vehicle while it was idling. The air bags failed to deploy and both front passenger seat belts did not retract. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 104,585.

My son age 13, weighs 105 pounds. When he sits in the front passenger seat the air bag warning light is illuminated indicating that the air bag has been disabled. It is my understanding that the recommended minimum age and weight for the front seat is 12 years and 80lbs respectively. The mazda dealer, (john kennedy ford, 1403 ridge pike, conshohocken, pa 19428) ran a check of the calibration of airbag sensors." all ok, no update needed" - they gave me a copy of service bulletin no 08-001/13. This mentions that the issue is caused by my son sitting incorrectly in the passenger seat.i have spoken to the dealer on multiple occasions and this issue is still not resolved.

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx9. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 13 mph and attempting to slow down, the brake pedal was harder than usual to depress. As a result, the driver rear ended the vehicle in front causing a five vehicle collision at a traffic light.none of the frontal air bags deployed.the police were present and a police report was filed. There were no injuries reported. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot where the insurance company was scheduled to have an inspector inspect the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for a diagnostic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact referenced nhtsa action number: pe14005 (service brakes, hydraulic). The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

Takata recall i had to put in my vin to make an appointment for recalls & was sent a message back stating there are no recalls on my car. When i looked it up on your website it says my car is in recall for airbags and lower control arm. But according to the mazda dealer & the mazda website i don't have any recalls on my car!!! so to date i haven't been able to fix the items that are being recalled. When the recall for the airbags came out i contacted mazda & there was no recall. Again when the recall was expanded i contacted mazda. My vehicle was not on the list. I went to your site to see what you had about my car & discovered you have 2 open recalls on my car that as far as far as mazda is concerned i have none. Yet you have on your website that i do so i am trying to get to the bottom of this. Does my car have any recalls or not? i also want to point out that there was a recall on the transfer case on my car. Now when i bought the car the reason why i bought it with high mileage was because the car was supposed to be certified preowned.i was given the 1 year warranty. Then i was told that the recall on the transfer case would be valid until 100000 mile. So when my transfer case needed to be repaired at 92000 miles. I contacted mazda & after months of back & forth i was told i didn't qualify for them to take care of the repair even though it looks like a monster took a bite out of the transfer case at 92000 miles because according to their records my car was not certified preowned. Iasked to reconsider becsuse the transfer case wss completely destroyed st 92000. They said they could not make an exception with me becsuse then they'd have to make exceptions for others. I was told to get in touch with the dealer i'm getting in touch about that this week. There is something odd about all of this. How come mazda doesn't have the recalls for my car that you have?

I purchased a vehicle from a buy here pay here and later realized after two weeks of having the car that has a recall for the airbag on the passenger side...but the car was sold as is from auto sales in buford ga

Takata inflatorsrecall? no incident to report

I came outside to my car one morning and started the vehicle.. I noticed the airbag light was blinking, and it never was before.. So i shut the vehicle off to visually inspect it.. What i found was the passenger curtain airbag had malfunctioned.. It didn't deploy fully, but it puckered my headliner so now it's just hanging on the passenger side.. I informed mazda of this and i was told it's only a recall on passenger airbag sensor, but no recalls for curtain airbags.. What cani do

Our vehicle has water drains or "weep" lines for the sunroof.we recently had the electrical system stop/start, dash lights remain on constantly after sitting in the driveway during the rain.we learned that if the drains become blocked that water leaks into the cabin directly onto the body control module (bcm).because the bcm is not in a sealed or water-proof case, yet is soaked in these conditions, the vehicle is subject to electrical failure as a result.replacing the bcm costs about $1,000.when we started the car the dash lights that warn of an issue with many of the vehicles safety systems remained on.others went off and soft of flashed.we could not determine if there was really an issue with all of the components flashing on the dash so we did not want to drive it for fear of an accident.our vehicle was stationary (thank god).we waited for a while and were able to leave for home, but this condition is clearly a huge safety risk.

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. While driving 45 mph at night, the contact noticed a flickering light coming from the front end of the vehicle. The contact merged to the side of the road. After inspecting the vehicle, the contact noticed that flames engulfed the engine. The fire department extinguished the fire. A police report was filed. Neither the contact nor the passenger sustained any injuries. The cause of the fire was not determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000.

While driving on interstate 77, north bound, at 55mph, other motorists informed me that my car was on fire underneath.there were no dashboard warning lights or signals that came on it light up as a warning sign. I pulled over to the side of the road, the fire department and sheriff's office put out the fire and the car was towed. The car is quite new and with very low mileage. Well maintained car. No recent work other than regular oil change. Mazda denies any problems with this car.

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. The contact stated that while stopped at a stop light, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate as the warning indicators flashed and the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,727. Updated 06/15/16*ljthe consumer stated she accelerated from a stop light, as she turned the corner. She then realized, she could not brake, or steer the vehicle. She hit the emergency brake and turned the vehicle off.the dealer believed it was a vacuum problem as she braked slightly when she turned the corned. Updated 06/16/16.

I have not had a accident yet, however since i purchased the car new i have had trouble with the front brakes, especially the right wheel. The dealer say there is nothing wrong and i have complained about this issue several times at regular service. I know something is wrong, the pedal fades and there is a grinding and sometimes hissing noise from the front right.it needs to be corrected by the dealer before something really bad happens.

Had a problem a few years ago related to the traction control system as indicated by the warning light appearing on the dash.dealer contacted the warranty department to file a claim and said that is would not be covered under warranty because they felt it was due to dirt and not a faulty sensor.the dealer never confirmed one or the other.second issue is related to a hissing noise coming from the break peddle.research suggested mazda was investigated by nhtsa back in 2014 and instead of a recall, mazda issued and extended warranty for 7 years or 90k miles.unfortunately my vehicle is within the 7 years but not the 90k.i am currently at 97k miles.still waiting to see if mazda will cover the repair or at least discount it.

On 24 july 2015, while driving home from work, the driver in front of me executed an emergency braking to avoid a collision which caused me to do the same. From the moment i tried to actuate the brake pedal, it felt as if the pedal was in the floor and immovable. Little, if any, brake force was applied and required both feet with all the power of my legs to get even a small amount of braking. I had to immediately dive into the median at speeds of 60-65 mph to avoid hitting the car in front of me. This caused two tires to have to be replaced. When i left my parking garage and all the way to the freeway, braking was normal. No dash lights were active nor are they now. The issue persists now and driving the vehicle is not an option.

I bought the car under warranty up to 90,000 miles, when i bought truck 2015 and took in we told dealer that the was car leaking black substance they said they did not see anything . We took it for a recall and told the dealer same thing this time off and on it would smell like burn rubber by this time warranty was not covered. The issue was not diagnosed until we took it to for an oil change and routine inspection at 108 something miles the smell of burnt rubber is more persistent the mechanic told us there is a leak it looks like transmission oil and it is dripping to axle.we took in truck to first mechanic to get a quote he could only get part at the dealer they said that the wholepower transfer case would need to be change not just the seals. Took it in for second opinion that mechanic said that those particular models and year have been taken in for same issue and end up having to change power transfer case because it was poorly manufactured that the exhaust is to close it melts rubbers and leaks transmission oil therefore changing seals will not correct the problem the whole thing needs to be change. I have 3 small children and smell of rubber is concerning it upsetting that there is multiple cars from year 2011 to 2017 with these issue's and there has not been a recall does a car need to catch on fire with kids in it. This is a manufacturing issue and should be investigated.

Transfer case - had unusual wear and tear on the transfer case that lead me to lose steering and driving capability when driving to work. Took my car to car dealer and the transfer case was ground down and the transmission was rusting. Had no water damage and cost over $4,000. Since have researched and found that many mazda owners have been experiences issues with their transmission and transfer case. I believe this should be looked into.

While driving straight on a highway the water pump bearing failed causing coolant to leak and mix with the engine oil. The car immediately started to make a rattle noise and smoke or steam came from under the hood. The underside of the car was covered with coolant and what appeared to be oil. The car was not drivable and had to be towed to a mechanic. Once at the mechanic the took the engine out to get to the water pump, once everything was put back together it was found that the failure also caused damage to the vvt actuater and alternator. The engine is completely shot.

Same issue as everyone else hissing when brakes are compressed -or car is stopped and bad or lagging in braking. My brakes were completely down to the floor and the car kept slowly trying to roll. I had to pump the brakes. Or put the car in park. When i let the brakes go no hissing

Car surges unexpectedly even when gas pedal not engaged - can cause a rushed forward or reverse motion, putting pedestrians or other cars at risk. This happens daily. Problem was identified by dealership several months ago. There is a related oil leak.

Mazda cx-9 2011 has un-detected water pump leaks which cause to engine overheat and eventual engine death. Mazda corporate is unwilling to co-operate. Car suddenly came to a halt showing engine light on..and i had to replace the brake booster also because when i was driving thevehicleit turn off on me everywhere and i had to pay out of my pocket and im still paying for this vehicle right now my vehicle is in a garage because is notdrivable

My driver side headlight went out a month ago. I changed the hid bulbs, the fuse and nothing was working. I took it to a mazda dealer for my warranty when i bought it. After mazda checked it out, they found my hid ballast was fried due to water condensation. My head light is not broken or missing any parts. My warranty will not cover it. I have read in several sites that this is common and mazda know about it and has done nothing to fix it. I have been pulled over several times cause of this.

Drivers low light ballast took on water and rusted out causing the headlight to short out.

Hissing noise when pressing brake pedal.if feels like more force is needed to stop vehicle.loud noise from transmission when shifting from part to drive/reverse

The transfer case in our 2011 mazda cx-9 failed at 130,000 miles. I understand that mazda know about a defect as to the proximity of the transfer case to the exhaust. The heated transfer case lubricant become sludge-like and causes the case to fail also affecting the transmission splines. The heated lubricant escaped and drips on the exhaust and fills the vehicle with a toxic smelling gas and apparently can light on fire. The transfer case failed while driving making getting out of traffic difficult.mazda issued a bulletin in 2014 extending the warranty to 7 years or 90,000 miles but didn't inform any of the customers of this problem. There is no service schedule for the transfer case as recommended by mazda. Or any way i understand to change the lubricant in the transfer case. Without informing us of the issue or having recommended any preventative maintenance maza caused a very dangerous situation for my family. I have contacted mazda usa and they have been unhelpful.

Any time there is even a slight incline in the road and anything that could lessen traction such as a little gravel, my tires spin and the car does not move. It's especially bad in any type of inclement weather, rain, snow, sleet. I loose all traction. The back tires do not move at all and the front tires spin. The tires have good treads.

Traveling with family on i95 started smelling a burning odor. Later developed a distinct vibration and grinding sound. Got it home now non usable. Vehicle was previously repaired at my shop , a loss due to hurricane sandy, and as such branded. Faulkner mazdaand mazda corporation both denied any warranty claim due to title branding even though both admitted it was a safety issue , although the service dept at faulkner did add "that anything could cause an accident". I am just lucky that it didn't grenade while on the interstate at speed with my family in the car. Corporate mazdaadvised me to save my receipts in case they issue a recall in the future. Will not recommend mazda to anyone in the future.

Suddenly starts to accelerate while at a stop light, stop sign or i am letting a person out and still in drive and my foot is on the break. It has done it 4 time since i got her bought 02/03/2020 the last was 06/06/2020. I have to press down on the break very hard to keep it from going forward lasts only a second or two.

The vehicle was identified at the dealership as having a leaking transfer case that needed to be replaced. During this replacement the transmission splines were also noted to be damaged due to the faulty transfer case. Therefore both the transfer case and transmission needed to be replaced at my expense.

My power train was supposed to be covered to 100,000 miles. When the tranfer case had to be replaced as per warning it happened at 93000 onstead of 90000 but i was told that not only eas i not covered but that the supposed warranty covered to 100000 miles was not valid either because the car wasn't classified at mazda as a certified pre-owned car and the only reason i bought the car was although the mileage was high, approximately 54,300 miles for a 2 yr.old car i purchased it because with it supposedly being pre-owned car, the power train was to be warranteed to 100000 miles so picture my shock whrn i was told that the carwas not considered to be pre-owned and that the power trsin wouldn't be covered. I must take it up with the dealer. So i was stick with the payment of the replacement of a part that was listed for recall. So for 2000 miles past original recall mileage and because mazda had no record of my car being pre-owned i had to pay for everything myself. It looked like a monster had taken a bite of the part in question. I still have part cause i 'm still trying to get my money back to no avail#!!!it was stationary when the defect became evident.

The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 120,000.

The mazda 2011 cx-9 crossover suv seems to have a defect in the power transfer unit (ptu).mazda north american operations issued a letter to mazda owners informing about a special service program to extend the warranty coverage for the repair of the power transfer unit (ptu) on "certain 2010-2011 cx-9 all-wheel drive vehicles produced from july 28, 2009 through december 2, 2013."i quote the letter.on march 18, 2015, i began to experience a problem whereby my 2011 cx-9 made a grinding and snapping sound when in reverse mode.this behavior was followed by a pungent odor in the cabin.i contacted the nearest dealership and tried to get an immediate appointment to examine the vehicle.however the dealership could not accommodate me nor expressed any awareness of the symptoms.yet, the letter was published since last year.i contacted a local mechanic and had them inspect the vehicle and they diagnosed the problem exactly as described in the letter from mazda.in fact, the mechanic is aware of this problem with mazda and lincoln brand vehicles.currently, i am having trouble getting immediate assistance from the dealership or mazda north american operations.i called several times to the dealership and they were unresponsive.is nhtsa aware of this ptu defect and what was necessary to require a recall/replacement of the ptu 'prior' to inevitable failure as we experienced?thank you.

I was driving my 2011 mazda cx-9 and the car was smelling like it was burning and then it sounded like a pile of rocks being tossed around i pulled over to the side of the road and something exploded the car came to an abrupt stop and smoke came from underneath the hood. I had it towed to a repair shop and was told the transfer case went out and messed up the transmission. After doing research on the internet i found out this is a common problem that mazda has known about for some time and has failed to notify the customer. This problem has apparently caused vehicles to catch fire while driving. After contacting mazda they say they extended the warranty to 90,000 miles because of this problem but hasn't notified the owners of the vehicle. Mazda says it hasn't been recalled because it isn't a safety issue (which i disagree with, it could cause great harm or death) and it hasn't been reported enough. Mazda said they would replace the transfer case but not the labor or transmission. I believe this should be recalled since apparently it's happening in all cx-9 vehicles between certain years. It's a defective part, nothing i did and i am left to pay to fix a problem that mazda knows is their fault. My car has between 90,400 and 90,500 miles and i shouldn't be having this kind of major problem with a vehicle under 100,000 miles. If i would have been driving down an interstate at 70mph i have to wonder if i would have had an accident with injury or if my car would have caught fire what would have happened. I believe this is a major safety issue and needs to be investigated.

I just bought an 2011 cx-9mazda few weeks ago.when i was parking i noticed that every time i put the car in drive it make a sound very hard, and sometimes when putting it in reverse.it may be some problems with the transfer case.in addition, when the car is running on 2nd another weird sound.i am taking the car to the near dealer if the problem continue.

The brake pedal seems hard too stop the car when in motion on public streets, vehicle continues too roll upon pumping brakes, have too continuously pump the brake hard too stop the vehicle, had the front brakes replaced recently, and brake pedal is still not functioning correctly, possibly the brake booster.

While driving the car on a county road, with the speed under 40 mph, and following the bend in the road to lead to getting on the highway, the car jerked forward as if i hit something. As i continued to drive, the car was making loud clinking sounds and was jerking in motion. No warning lights went on. While attempting to continue to drive, clanging noises could be heard and the car continued to jerk forward.the car was unable to be driven. After having it towed to my mechanic, it was determine the problem was the transfer case.the splines between the transmission and transfer case had been eaten away by rust. The seal had not kept water out as it was designed to do. A new transfer case was ordered as well as a new transmission.the replacement transfer case had shown signs of the same issues with the splines. Another (2nd one) transfer case had to be ordered.i had purchased this car in february 2019 used.the car had a clean title, no accidents and was serviced regularly.within 1 year, i had to pay out $5,000.00 to replace transfer case and transmission.i lost the use of my car for over 3 weeks (due to the problems with getting a transfer case that was good). When you google this issue, many people have had similar issues.

2011 mazda cx-9.consumer writes in regards to vehicle fire caused by transmission/transfer case failure. The consumer stated the bottom of the vehicle caught on fire, it was put out before any excessive damage was done.the consumer stated prior to the fire, the vehicle started vibrating and when she attempted to drive, it would not move.

64300 miles on odometer and am experiencing transmission shudder at 35 - 45 mph in 5th gear.torque converter problem?pretty low miles for transmission issues. Smh

I have a 2011 mazda cx-9 and when slowing down there is a jolt when it shifts from 4th to 3rd. This seems to happen more when its cold out. It only happens when it shifts from 4th to 3rd. Its not all the time its just random.

2011 mazda cx-9 transfer case breakdown while moving due to fluid leaking out, causing severe wear on the transmission and disabling vehicle.my wife heard a strange sound 2 weeks ago and when she parked the car in the garage, there was a strange smell, like burnt wire or rotten egg smell.had it evaluated at the local garage and they diagnosed leaking fluid from transfer case, which destroyed the bearings and threads around the shaft.the mechanic says this fluid is never supposed to have to be changed according to the mazda manual.and there is so little fluid in the transfer case, it is hard to detect the leaking when it happens.i checked on google and there were hundreds of similar reports of tranfer case failure.one guy had four transfer cases installed in the first 20,000 miles after the car was purchased new.this is dangerous.if the transfer case fails at night or during a snowstorm, people could get killed.not to mention the $3,000.00 to $8,000.00 bill for repair depending on whether it is just the transfer case or if it also the transmission that needs repair.this matter should be investigated as a recall item.apparently, there have been several service bulletins and extensions of transfer case warranties offered by mazda.the problem is widespread, with the edmund's complaints of failure including the years 2008-2014.it does not necessarily rleate to the amount of miles on the vehicle because many have failed shortly after being purchased new.the fact that mazda has handled this on an individual event basis and very quietly has kept this from becoming newsworthy but the problem is so widespread, dangerous and costly, that the federal government should get involved.

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. The contact stated that there were fuel fumes inside the cabin of the vehicle. Additionally, the contact was driving 20 mph when the vehicle began to decelerate independently and stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the transfer case was cracked and seized. The failure was not reported to the manufacturer. The vin was not available. The failure and current mileage was 36,300. Updated 07/30/13*ljthe dealer replaced the transfer case. Updated 08/01/13

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. Another vehicle crashed head on into the contact's vehicle while it was idling. The air bags failed to deploy and both front passenger seat belts did not retract. There were no injuries and a police report was not filed. The vehicle was taken to an autobody shop for repair; however, a diagnostic test was not performed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was invalid. The failure mileage was 104,585.

Attempted to latch the driver seatbelt, but the latch would not receive the belt.after several attempts to latch the belt by inserting it into the latch mechanism, i was able to latch the belt by first pushing down the release mechanism; then inserting the belt.this has to be done each time in order the latch the driver side seatbelt.no other seatbelts are affected.this car has been scheduled into bommarito mazda for resolution of this problem.

Brakes are making a hissing sound when you press down.the brakes are hard to push and the vehicle is not stopping properly.

Brake booster failure, causing brakes to not engage without pumping the brake pedal. No check engine or maintenance lights were triggered due to the failure.only indication was engine revving while idle for no apparent reason and inability to bring the vehicle to a stop.

While traveling on the highway rush hour traffic my brakes started malfunctioning. The traffic ahead of my vehicle came to a sudden halt. I applied my brakes (100 ft. From collision), however, they failed to decelerate the vehicle- it didn't feel as though i had applied them. In order to prevent a collision i depressed the peddle with all of my strength (60 ft. From collision). Gradually, and insufficiently, the car began to decelerate. With the brake peddle fully depressed. Suddenly (25 ft. From collision) the brakes tightly grasped the rotor and the tires screeched- thrusting the passenger and i forward. Then the braked released and grasped again.the vehicle finally stopped inches short of a collision with the ahead of mine. For the past few days, the car has continued to exhibit similar symptoms. When i fully depress the break the vehicle makes a hissing sound and the rpms drop- on one occasion this action caused the cuv to shut off. I have to remain an additional 50 ft. Behind other vehicles in order to insure that i have sufficient time to stop.

I have recently experienced trouble with my brakes.it has been very difficult to come to a complete stop no matter what my speed is.it feels like i have to push very hard to get the brakes to engage.also, i hear a hissing noise, like air coming out of the tires when pressing on the brake pedal.no warning lights have come on.i took the car into just brakes last night and am waiting for an assessment.the mechanic said it sounded like a problem with the power boosters.

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. While driving 40 mph, the brake pedal was depressed, but was extremely firm. The contact stated that gradually the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard before the vehicle was able to be stopped. The vehicle was taken to cardinaleway mazda-peoria (8424 w bell rd, peoria, az 85382, (623) 738-0755) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster and brake booster switch needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was currently at the dealer to be repaired. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000.

Brakes really hard to press. Wife thought car wasn't going to stop and she was going to rear end car in front of her. Sometimes brake pedal would feel spongy.over last month there was an intermittent strange noise sometimes when car was started.mazda dealership identified the problem to be a defective brake booster.i found that nhtsa opened investigation on cx-9 brake issues previously and mazda identified problem to be brake booster. Mazda extended the warranty to 7 years or 90,000 miles and nhtsa closed investigation.our brake booster failed at 9 years with 79,388 miles on the car.from what i have read the life expectancy of a brake booster is the life of the car.mazda never informed us about this possible problem.our family could have been seriously injured or killed due to this defect.why did the nhtsa accept an extended warranty as a solution?

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. While driving approximately 30 to 40 mph, the contact engaged the brake pedal and attempted make a left turn, but the brakes failed to engage. The contact was able to steer the vehicle onto a dirt road to bring the vehicle to a stop. The vehicle was towed to the hyundai mazda dealer (14821 pandelli road victorville, ca 92392 phone 760-241-3801) where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed. The manufacturer stated that the brake booster failure was not warranted for 90,000 miles. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000.

I actually noticed when i started my vehicle up and pressed on the brake pedal, it seemed to slowly sink all the way to the floor and made a hissing noise. The noise only stopped when i took my foot off the brake pedal. As i was driving, on several occasions i had dramatically reduced stopping performance when applying the brake. I've gone through several stop signs and have almost rear ended other vehicles. This seems to have suddenly happened, i first noticed it on 3/1/15. This wasn't happening on or before 2/26/15. I suspect the power booster or master cylinder have failed, though i'm concerned that this happened with only 61,000 miles on it.

I had 3 children in car seats, myself and my oldest son in our cx9. I crested a hill and started down the other side and i applied the brakes to slow down and they were hard and would not allow me to stop. I almost hit the truck in front of me. He was thankfully watching his mirror and ran a red light to get out of the way so i didn't hit him. After standing on the brakes for what seemed like a life time they finally engaged in the middle of the intersection and hissed with a loud squealing noise. I removed myself from the intersection and at 5 miles per hour went to the nearest mechanic. I was told to call mazda because the power assist braking system had failed. I called mazda and they told me not drive it as it was unsafe. They would have it towed to the nearest dealership and would take care of it. The nearest dealership is dolan mazda kia in reno nevada. I was informed by steve to look at it in the shop i was looking at $125. And that it was no longer under warranty because my cx9 has over a 100k mls. And the warranty ran out at 90k. The brakes failed unexpectedly with no warning. I was never notified about this safety issue from mazda nor the dealership i purchased it from. I see that the nhtsa has closed it's investigation with no recall or that mazda customers were informed. My family could have been seriously injured or even killed.

Driving from worktoday on a highwaybehind an electric truck that stopped abruptly, i applied my breaks kind of quickly and after stopping and taking off again when trying to apply brakes to slow the peddle would be really hard to press and it felt like the peddle was pushing up against you.there is a hissing noise when brake is applied and if you press the brake all the way to the floor there is a squealing noise.the hissing noise is inside the care and sounds to be coming from around the brake peddle area.the car can not be drove at this time because when in movement the brake is really hard to press and it takes very long distances to get stopped. I can't put my children in this car to go anyplace!

Brakes are not working properly or consistently. Sometimes have to press too hard on brakes and other times it works fine. Also, brakes are making a hissing sound like air coming out of tire.

Brake booster failurebrake pedal hissing and started to stiffeni was driving then stopped at a traffic light noticed that the brakes were hissing and was really hard to push on to a complete stop

Uninformed about the 2011 mazda cx9 brake problem which did not show up until 8-22-2018, i was informed that while mazda extended their warranty, the warranty had ended in 4-2018 or when the car had 90,000 miles logged.(my car is at 91,244 miles.)the car is unsafe to drive, the brakes are suddenly not working, and this is a documented problem with my make, model, and year.there is no more important safety feature in your car than the brakes. Yes, teenage drivers ' that's even more important than bluetooth connectivity. Unfortunately, owners of the 2010-2011 cx-9 have been having problems bringing their car to a stop.the brake symptomscx-9 owners, especially those in hotter climates, have been telling harrowing tales of brake problems centered around:the brakes became hard to push, there was a hissing noise from the pedal and the car would not stop until the brake petal was pumped.

Stiff pedal. No brakes

Brake pedal is very hard and vehicle is not stopping well almost causing an accident

Loss of power brakes. Excessive brake pedal pressure needed to stop vehicle. Hissing noise when depressing brake pedal.

Brake booster is leaking. Takes longer to stop.called mazda and reported issue.

Our 2011 cx 9 brakes are failing.the power brake booster will at times not work making the brakes very hard to depress and without the ability to quickly and safely stop the car.

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. While driving, the brakes were applied and failed to respond. Additionally, the brake pedal became hard to depress. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.

Approaching a red light on a dry sunny day, my brakes failed halfway through coming to a stop. At first my vehicle (2011 mazda cx-9 sport with 56,000 miles) was slowing down normally and then suddenly there wasgrinding/crunching noises and despite pressing the brake, the vehicle was no longer stopping. I slammed the brakes, pumped a few times, and the vehicle simply failed to slow down or stop causing me to slam into the rear of the vehicle in front of me. I took the car into a mechanic who notified me that both of my "front calipers were possibly defective," and my front rotors were "uneven and wearing on the outside." however, my brake pads were good and did not need to be replaced. Good thing i was already stopping for the red light; therefore i estimate going about 10-15 mph (speed limit on street was 35 and i was already midway through coming to a stop at the light). Imagine if i need to brake while going 60-70 mph on the interstate! or worse, driving in the rain!

The brakes on the vehicle have become unpredictable. I initially took the car to my local shop only to be turned around being told that there was not enough wear on the pads to warrant replacement and that everything looked fine. However, being the owner of the car, i can confirm a severe and sudden regression in the breaking behavior. While the car still slows down when the breaks are applied, the pedal has become very hard and the ability to stop suddenly is severely comprised (even at a slow speed).i have to plan my braking point much further away from my anticipated stopping point which makes driving much trickier. I would not trust the vehicle to save me from a crash were i to require emergency braking.

Brake pedal became increasing hard to depress requiring an excessive amount of force to engage brakes. Stopping power decreased and distance to a full stop increased leading to very dangerous situations when driving the vehicle. Mechanic says the brake booster needs to be replaced.

Brake pedal is very hard to push in. Tried to stop at a light and the brakes wouldn't stop the car, luckily there was't someone in front of me. Brakes feel like i am pushing against a wall, also can hear a hissing or leaking sound when i try to push the brakes.

I started noticing it was taking a long distance for my vehicle to come to a stop. I took it to my mechanic. We took it for a test drive and he confirmed there was a problem with the power brake booster. When he was driving, if he pressed on the brake pedal hard, he could make the car have a long "beep" sound. Otherwise, he, too, noticed the long distance required for the car to stop.

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. While coming to a stop at 10 mph, the brake pedal felt squishy. When the brake pedal was depressed, the brake pedal would almost travel to the floorboard. The feeling was also present while the vehicle was stopped at a stop light. Three months later, the contact heard an air noise when the brakes were being applied. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it could not be diagnosed; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.

Upon light braking i hear a hissing sound.the brakes are ineffective at slow speeds.it takes a longer time and requires application of greater braking force to get the car to come to a complete stop.i took the car in for inspection and am awaiting the results.i saw online that there are known problems with the braking system.

Vehicle would not slow or stop, had to push pedal hard all the way to the floor to get it slowed. Really thought we were going to have an accident. Took vehicle into shop on 6/5/2015 and was told it was the power brake assist module was bad and needed to be replaced. Owner of shop said we were lucky to not have been in an accident. Come on mazda you are aware of this situation.

I was going approx 40 mph, and went to hit the brake pedal at a light, and the brake pedal was incredibly hard and would not push down.i lifted my foot up and tried again.the pedal was still very hard but i was able to push (very hard!) and get to a stop.i did stop pass the light as it took me longer to stop the car, but luckily there were no cars ahead of me, nor any going through the intersection.

The brake start losing power and need to push really hard to stop.. And also make losing air sound when push on brake

First i was backing out from a parking spot and almost hit a car waiting behind me because the car did not stop, i first did not think anything of it, i thought i did not step on the brakes well, but after while driving i noticed that it was hard to break at the red light...i decided to drive home, and my car would not stop and was rolling the stop signs, no matter how hard i stepped on the breaks the car would not stop!!!!!!!!!!!! this was very scary, i thought i was going to crash.i tried pumping the break and would hear some type of air coming out form underneath.they need to recall all of these vehicles! i could have killed myself or someone else crossing the street!! i am now afraid to drive it even though it is at the dealers getting fixed.

There is an issue when using the brakeswhere there's a loss of power assist making the brakes really hard to push at times, a sudden loss of braking ability with super spongy pedals, and a strange, hissing noise coming from the pedal area.these issues happen concurrently when driving in the city or highway and whenever the car is in reverse or drive.

A strange, hissing noise coming from the pedal area.i am having a hard time pushing the pedal during 'initial pedal application', but that effort diminished as the pedal was pressed further while driving. The brakes booster squeals very loud if you push the brakes down while not moving. I did some research and found this is a defective brake booster issue that mazda had confirmed.

Brake pedal is rock hard and takes immense pressure to press down to get brakes to engage.hissing noise coming from under dash it seems.

Hissing noise when pressing brake pedal.if feels like more force is needed to stop vehicle.loud noise from transmission when shifting from part to drive/reverse

I was driving my son to the doctors office when i realized the brakes did not feel right. I told my husband that i felt a lot of resistance when applying the brakes. So when i got home i had my husband drive the car and he said he did not feel anything until later that night when he was driving the vehicle he freaked out cause he said he felt as if the car wasn't going to stop after pushing on the brakes. He had to pull off of the highway and take the back roads home at a low speed and give himself plenty of distance from the car in front of him in order to brake so he would not slam into their car. Also, when applying all the pressure you could to the brakes, a loud hissing sound could be heard as well. The car was taken to our mazda dealer where the car was purchased and after they looked at it, we were told that the vehicle had bad brake boosters and that we were lucky we weren't in an accident. After hearing this and researching it, it really upset us that mazda has had this issue with the same model vehicle of other years.... Why hasn't a recall been done? are they waiting for someone to lose their life before something is done?! i thank god we were able to stop our car but there was no warning or lead up to this incident. It literally just happened out of nowhere!

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx9. While driving at low speeds, the contact heard a hissing noise coming from the front brakes. While attempting to engage the brakes to stop the vehicle, the pedal sank to the floorboard. The dealer stated that the brake booster was faulty and needed to be replaced. The brake booster was replaced and the failure was remedied. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 43,000.

I noticed a hissing noise when i press the brake pedal. It goes away when i let off the brake. I haven't noticed a difference in the brake pedal but i will be paying close attention to it. This is a major safety issue and should be recalled asap. I have 2 kids that ride in this car. I called the dealership and have an appointment tomorrow. The service department said they heard about this issue but haven't had a repair like this yet. I will update what i find out.

Without warning, the brakes failed.they seemed locked to the floor, impossible to press. No signal indicators no warning.just suddenly no brakes.very critical problem and accidents involving loss of life is probable.

Loss of brake fluid; brake pedal hard to push & not stopping car; noise at brake pedal

Current mileage: 125707. Noted brake fade, insufficient braking response during normal city driving. The vehicle was towed to a location to have the brakes examined.new front rotors, calipers andbrake pads were installed.brake system bled and vehicle test driven.normal braking during speed tests of city driving and emergency braking.vehicle then driven for 2-3 days of normal operation.operator driving the vehicle and when braking to a stop on approach to an intersection noted the brake pedal went to the floor before vehicle would slow.the pedal had to be pumped to obtain a measure of brake response.the vehicle took longer to slow to a stop.also noted during braking was a "hissing" noise when depressing the pedal. Pedal was then pumped up on approach to any anticipated stopping point.vehicle taken to be checked for possible air in the brake lines.brake system checked for air in the brake lines and none found.taken to a third-party shop for analysis.it was determined that the mazda oem power brake booster had failed and per the mechanic (note attached pdf) the diaphragm had become "brittle" and the brake power booster failure caused the "hissing" noises and the brakes to be causing the brakes to become unresponsive.the oem brake booster had to be replaced.during a review of online information it was discovered that the nhtsa had conducted an investigation into the issue of master brake cylinder leakage regarding this generation of mazda brake boosters.the vehicle has been in to a mazda dealership for prior recall replacement of other defects, however this potential defect was not addressed.

The brakes did not respond to typical pressure required to stop... When i pushed harder on the brake pedal it felt like the brakes were starting to engage, however i could not get them to fully engage and stop in time to avoid rear ending the vehicle in front of me. I took evasive action and jumped the curb and directed the vehicle at bank of newspaper stands in order to come to a complete stop.

Several times when the vehicle is in motion, and the driver attempts to apply the brakes, the pedal seems unresponsive.during these incidents, the brake pedal is very hard to apply, nearly impossible.thankfully when this transpired (5-10 times over the last 2-3 weeks), we were traveling relatively slowly.after exerting much more than normal force, the brake pedal seems to depress and help bring the vehicle to a stop, although not at the normal rate of braking.additionally, during one of these incidents, which happened today, the brakes remained engaged, and the car would not move, even after shifting to park, and turning off the engine.eventually, after shutting off the engine a second time and waiting awhile, the brakes released.this incident occurred while driving on city streets, and trying to stop at a red light.most of the other incidents have occurred during city driving, but they have also occurred while driving on the highway as well.

August 6th 2013 my wife complained about the brakes on her 2011 mazda cx9 making a hissing type sound and brakes feeling mushy and not responding as normal. The next day she advised the brakes were worse so we parked the car until the 9th. The cx9 has 46000. Miles. The car receives regular maintenance and was taken to tom bush mazda (jacksonville fl.) for diagnosis of the problem. We were advised that the issue was a vacuum leak from the brake booster and it had to be repaired at the cost of $695.88. (part = $130. W/ labor $503.) we learned that others have had the same problem and that a recall might have been issued for the previous year cx9s. There was no consideration on repair costs. Our issue is the brake vacuum booster failure seems to be an abnormally common complaint on mazda's cx9 vehicles and the fact that this involves brake failures, is a safety issue that may lead to a catastrophic crash at higher speeds. I believe other similar complaints noted about mazda cx9 brake issues in the nhtsa warrant a thorough investigation and possible recall. We will retain the defective part. Further note, the mazda dealership released the vehicle to my father w/o properly inspecting their work. The vehicle was released to us w/o the brake lines being bled properly which caused the brakes to fail while at the dealership. It took another day to fix that issue.

Brakes resist when trying to stop, taking longer to come to complete stop(at any speeds).once stopped brake compresses all the way down on its own, feels like the car will start roll.when applying brakes it makes an air decompression sound.when backing out of parked position and braking, car coasts a little when brakes are completely pressed down.very dangerous issue that i realized was related to the extended warranty brake booster issue that i received earlier in the year.i attempted to get this repair at the first service i scheduled after receiving notice and mazda service department refused to complete service because they didn't think my car needed it.

My cars brake pedalsuddenly became stiff and would not stop my car. I had to swerve to prevent myself from rear ending the vehicle in front of me. At the next stop light i was extremely cautious and after i finally stopped, as i waited for the green light the car began idling oddly then it stalled. Was able to start it back up. It seems to be shifting a little oddly too. Very scary driving my car. Incredibly lucky we weren't injured nor was anyone else. Will have it towed to the shop to be safe.

Brake booster failure

This is the second happened to my mazda cx9, 2011. The brake started to have hissing sounds while stepping on brake. The brake pedal is harder than usual to depress. The brake functions has been reduced around 30~50% less than normal. This has put deriving safety in jeopardized. This is the second time my cx9's brake booster failure. The first time is in year 2012. I worked with mazda to have brake booster replaced. However, dealer seemed not realized there is a warranty extended program from mazda ---mazda special service program -93 (ssp93). This is official recorded in nhtsa action number pe14005. Dealer tried contacting mazda for this program. But mazda kept not responding, it has been two weeks but still not message back from them. I paid the repairmen of the defective brake booster (parts & labor) from my own packet at this point. Despite the defective parts for jeopardizing driving safety, my complaints to mazda is also for their non-responsive to customer's warranty program which they have made.

I noticed a significant problem braking on my cx9 to where i had to almost stand on the brake pedal to stop. Added brake fluid hoping that would help but did not. Took it to mazda dealership in buford,ga and they confirmed the brake booster was causing the problem and strongly recommended replacement asap. They explained the problem is a known issue and mazda extended the warranty to 90k miles. The problem for me was my '11 cx9 had 107k. I had no choice but to pay to have the problem fixed due to my personal safety. A couple days later i called mazda customer experience and voiced my disappointment that this part was never recalled and people are driving around in unsafe cx9's. They did confess that if i would have called them 'before' my repair they could have reviewed the issue and perhaps offset some of the cost. This left me very disappointed since they would have preferred i kept driving the car and risked injury to others while they reviewed the case. #cx9sadness

The brake booster failed. All of a sudden the brake felt hard and the car wouldn't brake - had to press very hard to barely avoid hitting another car in front. On the way to the dealer, it was scary and could have easily got into an accident. I am lucky it didn't happen on a highway. The dealer replaced the brake booster - it was under extended warranty but not recalled. Though the dealer was quick to fix the problem, i believe this is a really dangerous and lives can be lost! i expected a defective braking system should have initiated a recall!!!

I went from having brakes to having to push the brake to the floor, which still did not stop the car, all in the same day. I was lucky not to wreck but could not stop for stop signs or stop lights all while my 22 month old was in the vehicle. Something in the brake system messed up, and it still had a full thing of brake fluid. I believe that it is the brake booster causing this problem.

I was driving about 40mph when i pressed on the brakes and it was hard and would not stop. I stepped on the brakes several times when it finally slowed down but it slowly rolled to a stop.after a few days of driving like this i knew to start breaking way in advance but now the car would suddenly turn off when at a complete stop while waiting at a red light.the whole engine would turn off and the engine light would turn on.i would turn the engine key off and then turn it on and the engine would turn on after the second try.i was freaking out every time if got into the car because i knew it would stop on me whenever i would stop at a long stop light.i finally took my car to a mazda service center and they said it was the brake booster.it's been 5months and my car is running great.i hope this is the end of this brake booster nightmare because it was a really scary experience.

Brakes failed to engage 3 times this morning, the first time failed to stop the suv so had to swerve to the center median and slightly hit the metal barrier. Then going back home making a turn, brakes failed again to engage. Seems this happened when making turns. Brought to the mazda dealer, told them about ongoing investigation by nhtsa about mazda cx9 2010-2011 brake problems. They did a thorough check but could not duplicate the problem so nothing was fixed. It might be the brake booster. I'm afraid this might happen again, they said there was no recall regarding brakes for 2011 mazda cx9. Hope that nhtsa forces mazda to make a recall. Mazda has to fix this dangerous problem.

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. While driving at an unknown speed, the brakes failed to respond when the brake pedal was depressed. There were no warning indicators illuminated during the failure. The dealer was not contacted.the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake booster failed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 120,000.

I just stated noticing issues with my brakes, i started hearing a low hissing noise and noticed that i was having a hard time coming to a complete stop.i need to pump the brakes several times to slow down and then once stopped the brakes go all the way to the floor.i took my cx9 in today july 8, 2013 to have the brakes checked and the oil changed.i was told the breaks and pads are fine but there is something wrong with the brakes.they tried flushing the lines and that did not help.they told me they could not look at the car further until wednesday july 10th.i asked if the car was safe to drive they said it was and to go slowly upon reaching a light and make sure to pump the breaks so i can stop in time and not go through the intersection.this is very alarming to me since an accident can occur this is my only vehicle and i need to get back and forth to work.they told me they needed to call the mazda help line to find out what is wrong with the breaks.after researchingon linetodaymazda cx9 brake issuesam very interested to see what they say and if it is the same problem that has been reported since 2008 with this model.i am very upset since i take very good care of my car and always take it to the mazda dealer for service.my vehicle is at the 37,000 mark which appears to be the point when this has been a problem for other vehicles.i hope that mazda will cover the costs to fix the car and that i don't get into an accident between now and wednesday.

Hissing sound when applying brakes, brake feels stiff. Have an appointment tomorrow (they said it should be ok to drive until then), said it was probably the master cylinder failing.

I went to have new tires put on the car and on the way to the tire shop when i applied the brakes the peddle became hard and was difficult trying to stop the car.after the new tires were put on the same thing on the way home, still has a hard brake peddle when the brakes are being applied.

In dec. 2018, i had my 2011 mazda cx-9 to a mazda dealer service shop for what i felt like a spongy brake pedal. When i picked up the car the service advisortold be there is nothing wrong with the car's brakes. After a few months, while the symptom persisted, i found out there is a know issue with the brake booster, which mazda acknowledgedand issued a warranty extension (which is expired now). Two days ago, while traveling in traffic on highway, i had to stop the car due to a sudden traffic jam and i felt the brakes being insufficiently effective to stop my car safely. As such, i pumped the brake pedal 3-4 times and that caused the pedal to become very hard and made matters worst- to a point where i had to pull on the shoulder to avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front of me.

I was approaching an intersection where i needed to stop with my children in the car, i went to hit my brake pedal and it was stuck in the up position and i couldn't stop, i had to quickly turn my wheel to hit the shoulder of the road to slow down and to avoid being hit in the intersection. The car brake then eventually released after hearing a hissing noise and it slowly going into the down position. When i had a mechanic look at it, he explained that it clearly is a failure of the brake booster.we researched it and found that similar issues happened with my make and model in the past but mazda does not want to honor the defect as its special service call on it ended in 2015.

While driving in the city or on highway suddenly the brake pedal becomes hard to press and creeps down to floor with loss of brake booster, a hissing noise is heard in the car and it becomes very hard to stopthe vehicle

Brake booster goes out causing brakes to unexpectedly malfunction and not stop the car in a timely manner.brakes become hard to press, sound of hissing air from under dashboard, brake pedal was pressed all the way to floor and still did not stop the car in a safe manner.no warning lights alerted to this problem prior to this incident.

Same issue as everyone else hissing when brakes are compressed -or car is stopped and bad or lagging in braking. My brakes were completely down to the floor and the car kept slowly trying to roll. I had to pump the brakes. Or put the car in park. When i let the brakes go no hissing

Similar to other complaints here, i recently started noticing hissing when i pressed my brakes....... I noticed that i was having a hard time coming to a complete stop.i took my cx9 in today august 14, 2013 to gunther mazda in fort lauderdale. I thought it was going to be a simple change of brake pads, little did i know i was in for $700!!!!!- apparently this is nothing new for mazda, there was an investigation going on by the nhtsa for the 2008 cx9 model and guess what? the 2011 seems to be having the same exact issue.the mechanic said the pads are fine but the master cylinder and booster need to be replaced.i'm going to call mazda usa to see what they can do but unless everyone starts demanding answers they're going to be laughing all the way to the bank.it'll take a strong effort to make them issue a recall.this is my last mazda. I'm going back to my lexus, more expensive by a lot but i didn't have to worry about putting my life and my daughter's life at risk.this is ridiculous.

As i was driving my car on a city street, i lost all steering and braking ability. The first time it happened - mazada thought it was a suction from the brake and a tube that was broken. However it just happened again as i was reversing in a parking lot. The car is now with mazada being looked at...

Brakes makes a hissing sound when you step on it and it is hard. Updated 03/4/2015

Lost braking power. Pedal has to go to floor to work.

Brake master cylinder hissing and squealing while engine is in idle.after revving(and releasing) to 2000 rpm's and applying (holding) brake pressure simultaneously, the build up vacuum pressuredoes not allowengine to return to idle rpm.rpm hangs at 1500 rpm's.if vehicle is in drive while accomplishing this then the brake pressure applied is not enough to bring the vehicle to a stop. After find the cause of the issue i went online and found previous message boards about this issued were posted in early 2014 but a recall was never issued.reported the issue to mazda (20161012) but was told that since the vehicle is 30k outside of the extended warranty then the issue belongs to the consumer.(mazdaref 1-368-227-539).

Sirt: i purchased my 2011 mazda cx 9 from my close friend [xxx] on dec.05 of 2014! [xxx] had not been issued a special services program about the brake booster! well i never received this info either? in fact i had two recall that were taken care of by the local mazda dealer here in thousand oaks calif. This known brake booster detonation has been known by mazda.iot is a very dangerous condition and is not to safe to drive the car at all- i will not drive the car and seethe original matter should have been let it be known to myself and feel the matter should be addressed asap by mazda -thank you [xxx] adding backing -very hardbrake - when driving it had to really stand hard on the brake to stop car b! all indications point to a brake booster failure ! to summarize io was never notified by mazda about the special service program for the repair of this extremely unsafe brake problem!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Brakes have suddenly become erratic.often they are "hard" and require excessive pressure to get the vehicle to stop.my research shows this is a known issue with this year and model, and mazda extended their warranty to cover the issue; however, that evidently does not apply to second owners.

The brake pedal has become extremely hard and it doesn't stop quickly anymore.it feels like the brakes are going to completely fail and not stop the car.a car in front of me suddenly stopped to make a left turn and as i applied my brakes, they became very hard and took a very long time to stop, i almost rear ended the car ahead of me.

I was driving in my mazda 2011 cx9 suv when i pressed on the brakes and they would not engage.i had to press repeatedly, extremely hard in order to get the vehicle to stop.i have taken the car into my mazda dealer who is saying that i have a problem with the master cylinder leaking fluid into the booster.mazda has not senta recall for the master cylinder only for the booster.this is a very dangerous situation and one that needs to be addressed before someone gets into an accident.this car is 2.5 years old and has 42000 miles and should not be having these problems.mazda needs to honor the repair and fix this problem.

My brakes did not respond as they normally would upon application of the brake pedal when approaching an intersection on thursday morning. It felt almost like there was a pillow under the brake pedal. This occurred once on thursday morning, and once on friday afternoon. Friday evening brake fluid was filled to ensure that there was not a lack of fluid causing the problem, however the problem again occurred several times on friday evening after adding brake fluid. By saturday morning it was worsening both in frequency (occurring with every application of the brake) and severity (felt as though no matter how long and hard i applied pressure to the brakes it would not perform in a manner that would be effective in anything other than very slow speeds with excessive space between all vehicles). On saturday it also began making a hissing noise which occurred as i was depressing the brake pedal, then stopped when the brake pedal was finally fully depressed (which took an extraordinarily long time). I felt it was no longer safe to drive other than to get it to our mechanic which i did on monday morning. Our mechanic tested it and determined that the brake vacuum booster had failed and had to be replaced.

My wife complained that the brakes didn't seem to be stopping the vehicle very well.i drove the car and almost had an accident.at slow speed the brake pedal was very hard to depress and made a hissing sound, but continued to travel slowly toward the floor.i limped it to the mazda dealer and i was told that the booster and master cylinder needed to be replaced.when i questioned the service manager about mazda's problems with cx-9 brakes, he said mine was the first one he had heard of.i drove away as fast, carefully and safely as i could.

Difficulty pushing the brake pedals and achieving a full stop. Sometimes car would inch forward when brake applied. Sometimes hearing a hissing noise when trying to apply the brakes. The noise seemed to come from the area of the brake pedal. Overall, brakes did not appear to be working as intended. Primarily experienced at lower speeds. Has happened repeatedly over a few weeks.

Reference ssp93 - brake booster diaphragm leakage on 2010-2012 mazda cx-9 vehicles. On, or about august 5, 2016 power brakes failed, causing a need to apply heavier than normal pedal pressure to stop vehicle, resulting in very near rear-end collision with vehicleat stop sign.this defect is known by the manufacturer and was investigated by nhtsa in 2014.investigation was closed with no recall action recommended.there should indeed be a recall mandated for this defect since it can result in serious collisions due to failure to safely stop vehicle.

Notice while on line for gas, maintaining foot on brake pedal car began to move forward and had to apply more foot pressure.car has 690000 miles and over 7 years old. In park while depressing the brake pedal can hear a hissing sound.symptoms getting worst, braking distances are longer and takes more pedal pressure.

Power brake booster failure.

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. The contact stated that there was an intermittent failure with the brake system failing to function properly as the contact had to press the brake pedal, release the brake pedal and apply force to stop the vehicle. The failure happened more than once to the point of it being a risk that may result in a crash. In addition, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was unsafe to drive, parked at the owner's residence and may need to be towed for repairs. The dealer young mazda (191 commerce park dr, easton, pa 18045, (610) 991-9100) was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not included in nhtsa action number: pe14005 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure to determine if they had a technical guideline to repair the vehicle. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was not available.

Brake peddle stiff, makes hissing noise. At times while in traffic loss of braking ability happens.

Brakes when applied would sometimes go to the floor before stopping. The brake booster has gone bad and very dangerous almost causing an accident. Brake pedal soft and sometimes will not stop.

When breaking i hear a hissing noise and found out my break boaster was going bad.

Our vehicle has lost braking power and is unsafe to drive any distance now.it is very difficult to get the vehicle to stop and keep it stopped once it has stopped moving without putting it in park.i have been advised this is in relation to mazda ssp 93.mazda has advised that is it my responsibility to have this vehicle towed to the nearest dealership, pay for repair labor, and pay for a rental car while repairs are being made.i am in complete disbelief that a known manufacturer's defect related to braking and general safety of everyone on the road was not immediately issued as a recall.we were provided zero notice that there was even potential for brake failure.

I was driving to the grocery store with my two year old and my seven year old. When i applied my brakes at a stoplight my car did not slow down until i put both feet on the brake peddle and push with all my might. There was no warning light for a brake problem. The car was making a high pitch screaming noise when i applied the brake. My father who is an engineer check the car and found the brake fluid low and it had leaked into the booster and ruined it. I looked on line and found several mazda owners had reported the same problem. My family, i and anyone else on the road lives are in danger if this is not recalled and corrected immediately.

I have been having issues with the brakes mostly when raining or snow. At times when i go to hit the brakes they get stuck or make a grinding noise and don't want to stop. This has happened numerous times and almost caused me to hit another car on multiple occasions. I will take it in soon to have it checked now that i see that i am not the only person with this issue.starting in jan 2015 i notice a burning smell coming from under the hood of the car. I had an oil change and checked for an oil leak to find nothing wrong with the vehicle. After running the car for at least 20 minutes the smell continues.

Sitting at a stoplight, my brake pedal came up and the car died. Restarted it, and it ran fine. Happened again at a stoplight.i took it to a shop who said it was a "mazda" issue . Within a week, my brakes started to not work. I took it to mazda & they told me i was past the 90,000 extended warranty. I asked them why they wouldn't honor fixing it when it was a mazda issue and they just said i was past the warranty. Beware of buying a "certified used car"! warranties/recalls will not be sent to you!

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9.while decelerating from approximately 55 mph, the contact noticed that the brake pedal was difficult to depress.the vehicle began making a hissing sound and the check engine indicator illuminated on the instrument panel.the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired and the manufacturer was not notified.the approximate failure mileage was 57,119.

When trying to stop at an intersection, the brakes did not respond as usual. Even with pressing the brake pedal as hard as i could, the stopping distance increased by at least 30 feet which placed me in the middle of the intersection. This is worse in hot conditions. There is also a hissing noise when the brake pedal is depressed. This continues to happen and does not feel safe to drive. A mechanic said it may be the power brake booster. I noticed that this was investigated, mazda issued a special service program which ended in 2015. The letter issued at that time said it was not necessary to take action unless there was a problem at that time. Mazda should extend the service program because this is clearly a safety issue.

There was a ratal sound anytime i would go over a bump or dip at any speed.the ratal got louder.i went to my mechanic and he said the calipers in the front had to be replaced.specifically the driver's side it looked worn and there was rust so he thought moisture had got into the calipers.thought this was unusal. So both had to be replaced in addition to my brakes.it also caused my brakes not to function correctlyl.

When pressing the brakes at any speed there was a hissing sound and the brakes were hard to press.regardless of the amount of pressure i applied to the brakes they did not react and it took the vehicle longer to slow down even at very low speeds (5-10 mph) or faster.this came on suddenly and caused me to bring the vehicle into the service department of the the dealership where i purchased it.the mazda technician inspected the vehicles and completed a diagnostics of the vehicle and discovered that the master cylinder and brake booster have failed and need to be replaced.

I had my cx-9 gt driving on the road. This happened while i drove on street and stepped on brake the pedal to stop for a red light. I almost hit the car in front of me, because my brake at this time, all of sudden, took longer stopping distance as i expected. It was a close call to hit the car in front of me while my braking system reacted differently. After almost hitting the car, i drove very cautiously in a fear that i might lose the control of my brakes totally; the bad feeling for the unpredictable braking system really put my family's safety in a compromise. I have only had this car for one and half year and drove around 24,000 miles. This never happened to the three cars i have drove in my 20 years of driving history. The braking system should be designed and provide what it should perform without any compromise. But this one didn't do the job it should. Don't even see any warning light in the dash.today, i took my car to the mazda service. They responded that one of the components of the braking system is defective. They mentioned that the "brake booster" is broken. I am so surprised at how these instrumental systems easily break in just less than two years, without any warning?? wouldthis be a serious issue that would affect any cx-9 models and cause further life threatening results. I like to pop up this concern to the safety authority for further investigations.

The power steering assist failed and it was impossible to back the car out of a parking space. After moving the car back and forth and slightly turning the steering wheel the power assist came back.it is impossible to make a turn without the power assist.this problem persists and happens at low speed or when i am stopped and trying to make a turn.as long as i am moving the power assist seems to work.

I took my car to hall in brookfield wi to fix a recall issue.the dealer told me they fixed the recall issue but noticed another problem that requires the replacement of the differential bushings because they were torn.they charged me over $500 for this issue and i believe the issue was exasperated by the recall issue and i am not sure why i had to pay.i honestly believe it was a way for the dealer to charge me for the recall work because it was supposed to be free.i am attaching receipts for the work hall did to this complaint.now my car is having issues with properly accelerating and is very loud.

Water pump leaking in engine mixing with oil

Takata inflatorsrecall? no incident to report

2011 mazda cx-9.consumer requests rental vehicle until passenger airbag inflator replacement and front lower control arms recall notices repairs are complete.

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v451000 (suspension); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. While driving 35 mph, the front wheels seized. The vehicle skidded and came to a complete stop without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was serviced for the lower control arms one day prior to the failure. The vehicle had an extended warranty for the transfer case, but it expired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 120,000.

The traction control light on my cx9 comes on and stays on, even in dry conditions in which the traction control system is not needed.also the tcs system light is illuminated and the tcs off light is illuminated.

Breakbooster when we asked our mechanic to check it and end up after calling mazda fremont that it is covered by the extended warranty for this. While drivig i thought i loss my break and was not fully working. Was scared . Mazda fremont assisted us and provided us a temporary car to use.

Front lower control arms safety recall 8515g / nhtsa campaign no. 15v-451 :: july 19 2016 went to team mazda subaru (6218 cleveland blvd. Nampa id) for recall replacements and was told it would take 2 weeks for parts to be ordered & delivered. August 8th, i called team mazda after not receiving any call/ notification and was told i would receive a call back. Still no call back (august 9th; three weeks later).

Takata inflatorsrecall? no incident to report

The a/c evaporator tank condensation drain clogs.ours has clogged twice and the first time the water in the tank would slosh around and hear it when making a left turn. Eventually it ruined theblower motor to the a/c, which had to be replaced.now 19 months later, we heard the water again and took it in right away and it was clogged again and the blower motor has to be replaced again.this is a design defect.there should be a better drain system.clearly this is an issue with the mazda cx-9 model in several years because there are videos of how to unclog the a/c drain.

Car surges unexpectedly even when gas pedal not engaged - can cause a rushed forward or reverse motion, putting pedestrians or other cars at risk. This happens daily. Problem was identified by dealership several months ago. There is a related oil leak.

The contact owns a 2011 mazda cx-9. While driving 40 mph, the contact heard an abnormal noise and noticed water dripping from the sun roof into the interior of the vehicle onto the dashboard. The contact stated that the leak caused an electrical shock to the blower motor of the air conditioner. The vehicle was taken to lou bachrodt mazda coconut creek (located at 5400 fl-7, coconut creek, fl 33073, (954) 247-5000) where it was diagnosed that the air conditioner blower motor needed to be replaced and the sun roof needed to be de-clogged. The vehicle was repaired, but continued to experience the failure. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 102,000.

My car is having a recall repaired for some front end issue. In sept 2015 i took my car in for inspection, and all 4 tires had great tread on them. Mazda didn't have parts in september to fix my car. Between september 2015, and april 2016 my drivers side front tire is bald on the outside to the point it's almost unsafe to drive. It is the only tire that is like this.. All 4 tires were replaced at the same time about two years ago. Paul miller mazda called me and informed me i needed new tires and an alignment and i informed them it had to be related to the recall due to only that tire, and the fact that the tread was the same as the other tires in september. We could feel the front end issues in the vehicle for 7 months waiting on the parts. I am now stuck having to buy a new tire and pay for an alignment out of my own pocket because it ook them 7 months to get parts in to fix my mazda.
