Received recall notice for passenger side air bad in july 2016, and have made three attempts to have the repair done, each time i have been told the parts are not available.in august 2017, i received another recall notice for the "final repair using a modified inflator...". I am disappointed with the response i've received and will try again, however i don't think a year long wait for an air bag replacement is reasonable or acceptable.

Received initial recall notice (0717a) of the potentially fatal takata airbag in february 2017 and instructed not to let anyone ride in the passenger side of the car, and was told airbag replacement parts were not available.it is now september, 2017 - over 6 months later - the airbag replacement parts are still not available, we are still having to use a potentially deadly defective automobile but only part of the vehicle since we cannot use the front passenger side, and mazda has not offered a replacement vehicle.we cannot even sell the car for fair value do to this potentially fatal and at this time, un-repairable, defect.the last recall notice (1317f) instructed us to notify the administrator of the nhtsa if mazda did not repair the defect within a reasonable amount of time.over 6 months is not a reasonable period of time.

Spoke to manufacturer they admitted they have seen issue but that my car is 40000 miles over warranty. I have owned other carsand all my friends have cars i have never heard of this happening. I hope this gets investigated there are loads of mazda's just like mine on our roads i was very lucky to be going so slow this could have gone very bad. I have done some research online and there are loads of stories like mine. With no warning signs at all

Rear passenger door will not open from inside car this is a safety problem has anyone else reported this problem.i took it to the dealer they said some kind of sensor had to be replaced at a cost of 700.00 dollars i dont think i sould have to pay out of my pocket.i transport my grandkid around and if a something happens they would not get out

Returned to vehicle after work (5pm) and saw that both side mirrors were damaged. A closer look revealed that the painted portion to both side mirror housing units had melted. It appeared the plastic had melted from internal heat. There were no burn marks on the outer portion of the unit. The plastic had shrunk to a shriveled and wrinkled appearance. Brought the vehicle to a mazda dealer (escondido, california). The vehicle was inspected and nothing was found to be wrong. I was told there was no electrical problem and the melted side mirror units were melted from the sun. I do not live in arizona, new mexico, or southern nevada where temperatures reach above 105 degrees consistently. Temperatures typically reach 80-95 degrees.

We bought our car on a dealer in mesa, it was stationary. After we bought it we noticed locks moving on their own windows rolling down so did the moon roof. When we turn off the engine the a/c turns on even though the car is turned off. The car locks itself leaving us outside. We had problems with the tires they keep loosing up making the car vibrate and making sounds like banging on the tires

When accelerating after driving for a few minutes maybe 10-15 after the vehicle has had time to warm up, as i am applying pressure to the gas pedal and it is shifting into gears (usually into gears 3,4, & 5) the vehicle is showing that it is into the next gear but you feel it shift after the fact so it is delayed and as accelerating it feels as though it is lagging and trying to shift but can't fully right away. I am only submitting this complaint because i know a couple others with this make of vehicle but different years and they stated they have the same issue with their vehicle as well

There have been a multitude of problems on the vehicle (two sets of brakes, tierod, electrical overhaul vacuum hoses...) the major issue has been oil leaking.this past summer (2011) there was an oil leak.the dealer had the car for several days before diagnosing that it was the rear main seal.the seal was replaced (car was at dealer for nearly two weeks.)this fall (2011) oil was still leaking.after several days the dealer contacted mazda corporate and they suggested replacing the transmission, claiming it was not uncommon.the dealer replaced the transmission.winter/spring 2012 oil still leaking, car is currently at the dealer - claiming it is the rear main seal.again?wouldn't that have been replaced with the new transmission?

One day, my keyless don stopped working. The next day the door kept locking while i was driving almost every time i turned the steering wheel. Then the drivers door wouldn't unlock, when i manually unlocked the door it was hard to do. I luckily had the windows rolled down, got out the vehicle and as soon as i shut the door i hear the door lock and my two year old was in the backseat! again luckily i had the windows rolled down otherwise she might've been stuck! then the alarm kept going off and wouldn't turn off until i unhooked the battery. Imagine my frustration. I brought the car to a mazda dealership who said it was the door latch/actuator. Upon paying heftily when i picked up my car, the clicking of the door locks had stopped but the unlock button still wouldn't work and the alarm was once again going off! now the car is still at the mazda dealership and had its bcm/bcu replaced for a supposed 'fix', i'm suppose to pick it up tomorrow. So i guess we'll see. The apparent problem from all of this? my cx9 has a sunroof, which mazda knows these vehicles don't drain properly which causes water to go to the bcm shorting it out! this is inexcusable and could very well cost someone's child their life because of the doors constant locking and unable to unlock sometimes manually. The dealership has seen it on more than one occasion and mazda company has even admitted this fault! so why is there no recall?!

My vehicle bcm (body control module) have gone haywire for the second time this year. My dashboard warning signals appeared as i was driving locally. All gauges will drops down to zero, dash board warning lights will begin flashing off and on, my emergency lights will become disabled and there have been two occasions when my car refused to start. I started to notice that when the "at" light and the traction control symbol light are on the vehicle speed will not accelerate to the speed for which i'm pressing the gas. My initial takeoff is very slow. After the first no start i had my vehicle towed home and had to get a rental for a few days. This issue is currently ongoing after i made a service appointment with mazda, i also ended up driving the car in this condition to the dealership to see if i could get service started early and they weren't able to service me because they didn't have a loaner vehicle. I told them that i couldn't leave the car for this is my only transportation and i need a car to go back to work on friday. I was told that a lady should be bringing back a car the following day (thrusday) around noon if not they should have one on friday. Friday came no call from them, i called several times to only have my calls forward to a voicemail. So i called the parts dept. Told the person that answered that i was trying to contact someone in service regarding bringing in my vehicle for service. The part dept. Manager answered the phone and i told him who i am and he indicated again we don't have any loaner vehicle at this time, we should have one on monday, we have a couple of people getting recall parts replace and the parts are on back order. So now its monday the car is still unserviced and i just called to get the same response from the service dept., we have no loaner vehicle at this time. It should be recalled or the housing unit. It's dangerous!

Mazda cx-9 problem 130,000 miles-on november 25th, as i was dropping my children to their schools, the defrost suddenly stops working. I try to turn the fan/heater all the way, but to no avail. I had to use a towel to wipe the windshield. As i pulled into a curved side, the engine turns off, i turned the ignition key to off, then starts the engine again, and the engine light comes on. I pulled out and drove about six hundred feet and parked. I call a mechanic and i drove it again for a mile to the shop. He opens up the hood and pour in some coolant and all the coolant were on the floor. He immediately told me that coolant leaks and oil is probably mixedand causes the engine failure. He told me i had to change the engine, because fixing it will cost me over ten grand. I drove it home, then the following morning, i took to a different shop, they did the diagnosis and relate the same story that check codes showed three codes: p0016, crank position sensor correlation bank one sensor a. 1285 cylinder head over temperature, 1299 cylinder head temp protection.the codes indicate an overheat scenario that resulted in engine shut down. They check oil and found milky substance instead of oil. Pressure check for coolant leak pushed milky oil out of dipstick tube. Head gasket has failed due to overheating and the coolant has contaminated the engine oil. Their recommendation is to replace the engine, assembly and flush cooling system. Their total estimate is $10,900.i can't afford to pay for this service repair. I cannot even spend that much of money on another car. We bought this car thinking that it will take us for some time before we'll need another car. I contacted mazda customer experience, and their response was, "wish there were never part failures",now, i'm stuck. So this is my story!!! safety issues: sudden engine shut off, defrost malfunction and steering wheel.

The transfer case is going out and it is due to a known manufacturer error from parts used.

When starting the vehicle there is a loud sound coming from the engine for 2-3 seconds .it doesn't happen all the time, but it sounds like a card going through bicycle spokes and is accompanied by a high rev sound . This sound also happens randomly when driving . It happens directly after the vehicle automatically shifts into a new gear, and is accompanied by a loss of power until the rev sound and card in spokes sound goes away.the power of the vehicle is normal until it makes that sound.

The morning of 09/17/2013 i saw white powder coming off the a/c vents.alarmed, i called mazda dealer in milford, ct. The dealer states that they have never seen this problem and contacted mazda usa for advise.the response was the air conditioning evaporator coil needs to be replaced for $1,250.i contacted mazda usa directly and asked them to help me out on this issue as it was a very unusual problem, health hazard (after some research on the web, the white powder could possibly be aluminum oxide).it is one thing when a system fails; but it is not to be taken lightly if it is emitting hazardous particles through the vents!mazda usa response was - no can't do - vehicle is out of warranty!i'm looking forward to hear from your respected organization - nhtsa - if you could be of assistance in this matter.the contact number for mazda usa consumer experience is 800-222-5500.i was given a case# [xxx] for this issue.my regards - hope to hear from you soon.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Letter to mazda of america engineering 10/2/2018subject: shared design flaw of 2008 cx-9 and 2008 ford edge stamped steel fuel tank (ford has recalled this tank) mazda engineering,i have looked at two designs to secure tanks.1)tank is bolted and one where the tank is bolted directly to a frame through the sealing flange. (current case with cx-9 and ford edge -2008)2)tank is secured using traditional tank strapsthe ford edge tank (the same as cx-9) was recalled in case 1 because the bolted flange is part of the tank. After repeated flexing of frame and tank with the addition of corrosion in northern states, the fixed flange ruptures the thank causing sudden fuel loss on a tank that does not appear to be corroded.this is of course a large liability as brittle fatigue fracture is by nature sudden.there is no warning for the customer. They pull into their garage at home or work and are a sudden hazard.in case 2, a tradition method of securing a tank, the load is distributed on a strap. Should the strap fracture there is no sudden fuel loss. The strap can be replaced. The tank stays sealed.this design flaw has resulted in a serious enough issue that ford has recalled over 200,000 vehicles identical to the cx-9 to address this exact issue.ford and mazda share not only the same design, but the same tank manufacturer and chassis.the mazda issue is more serious as coated tanks do not show any warning signs of corrosion. Where salt and brine are used in northern us during the winter these types of coatings do not reduce corrosion. Therefore, the nature of the tank rupture is sudden fatigue failure with no warning and poses a certain risk of fire in an enclosure such as a home garage.failure was - sudden, unable to be detected and life threatening

Dvd wires keeps going out/shortage m. Sometimes seat belt blinker work and sometimes it doesn't

Rusty door hinge bolts on 2008 mazda cx-9.there are four bolts on every hinge and two hinges per door.half of the bolts are painted and protected, the other half are not and they are rusting.all of the bolts that secure the door should be coated---in this case half are and one half are not.this could lead to a hinge failure.

I was making a right turn from a parking lot onto a road with my two children in the car when a loud crunch happened, the vehicle jerked left while still moving forward and i was unable to steer or break.the car came to an abrupt stop and i couldn't get the driver's door open.i walked around to the front of the car while in traffic and noticed loose parts that had been ejected from the wheel, leaking break fluid, and the driver's side front wheel was no longer attached and had wedged under the car.the car was unable to be moved out of the road thus creating a traffic jam.the tow truck driver said the control arm was broken and that my girls and i are lucky that we were not seriously injured.the car was towed to the mazda dealer service department 4 days ago and i have not heard from them.is this something that is covered under tread liability laws?i have photos of the car/wheel that were taken at the scene if needed.

After changing gears, 4th to 6th, the car start making hard shifting, ratling. This sound, goes and came in time to time.

Drive shaft failure on 2008 mazda cx9 1,750 miles, drive shaft needs to be completely replaced, according to dealer not the first one they have seen (ramsey mazda nj)drive shafts should not fail on new cars, can be dangerous.

Known issue of transfer case mechanical failure in all cx-9 models from 2007-2015. Transfer case is too close to exhaust causing the oil to dry up. Transfer case explodes causing the vehicle to lock up while driving. Known issue that has cause many accidents.

Vehicle is awd.in may 2016,tcs & abs dash lights came on as well as the depiction of a vehicle skidding.brought to my local mechanic who said he was getting fault codes but could not diagnose.suggested we go to the dealer.went to local mazda dealer who diagnosed that both the transfer case and transmission gears were stripped, that the vehicle was now operating in 2 wheel drive and that the abs was not functioning because of these issues.dealer quoted $8,136 to fix.we assumed there must be some recall on this issue but could not find one.we then brought to a local transmission expert who opened it up and described same problem.stripped gears on both transmission and transfer case.he called dealership parts dept. And said they had several of the major parts he needed to repair.he thought was a sign that dealer was seeing many of these same problems as these were not parts a dealer would typically stock. I discovered many similar complaints on line.some noted mazda recalled 2010 and newer for the same problem.also said it may be a onboard computer issue that caused the rapid wear of the transfer case and transmission.very concerned that mazda is putting this on the consumer when it seems very likely to be some design or manufacturing defect.

I have a 2008 mazda cx-9 with 139,000 miles on it. The transfer case has destroyed the transmission. The transmission was compromised by the faulty transfer case over a period time. I've done extensive research on this and this is absolutely a known issue that the transfer case is ruining these transmissions. I've also discovered that the mazda dealerships in my area are selling upwards of 4 transfer cases per week and often out of stock due to this replacement of the faulty transfer case coming out of the factory. I cannot understand why mazda hasn't sent out a bulletin to it's valued customers regarding this. I can only imagine the lack of transparency on this is due to the large financial impact it may have.i am contacting you to request that you take this issue to whomever can help resolve my case and provide significant financial assistance towards the replacement of my transmission and faulty transfer case. I've been told that mazda apparently has a "software update" that would fix this issue - but i find it impossible to believe as i have never received any notification of this being an issue or any software update to fix this faulty transfer case.i find it hard to believe that a software upgrade is going to fix a mechanical issue and cannot find any evidence of this "software" update being legitimate.mazda supposedly makes a quality product and supposedly cares about customer loyalty and service. I would say that not telling your customers about a faulty part (know issue on factory transfer case) that destroys the transmission and causes significant financial hardship is not fair or reasonable customer service.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The front driver and passenger wheels spun, but failed to move the vehicle. The vehicle was brought to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the transfer case needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired.the manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,000.

The power transfer unit (ptu), aka transfer case on my 2008 cx-9 broke, which subsequently destroyed a perfectly good transmission. The ptu is poorly designed and improperly fitted to the cx-9 and there are hundreds if not thousands of cases of the exact same problem in any mazda user forum.my mazda is only used for commuting and common street use. I noticed a toxic smell of burning transfer case oil on the exhaust, which filled the cabin. The rear wheels would no longer drive the car.mazda has not recalled this part, and even worse they have used it in all awd cx-9 models from 2007-2009. It is simply not designed to handle the weight and power of this vehicle, and is "sealed" from the factory with "lifetime oil" that breaks down over time.mazda usa has extended the warranty of this part, noted in the ssp92 warranty extension. But my car, which i've owned and serviced regularly at mazda dealers, has 120,000 miles and mazda refused to offer any partial assistance to replace mine, or repair the transmission that was subsequently destroyed.this is a problem worthy of a recall or class-action lawsuit. It creates a dangerous situation where the rear wheels no longer receive drive, oil from the failed ptu leaks directly on exhaust causing noxious fumes in the cabin, and at worst can lock-up rear wheels if the system were to seize.my repair from a mazda dealer totaled more than $3,600 which is more than 1/3 the value of the car.

Knock or hard shift in park as well as in reverse keeps burning oil had everything flushed replaced all fluids valve cover gaskets spark plugs etc

Transfer case failure which can cause transmission failure.found during recent inspection. Looks the problem is in design. Mazda recalled the transfer case from 2010 model and later but not before.since the same part is used in earlier models requesting recall on earlier models too.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. While driving various speeds, the contact smelled fumes. There were no warning indicators illuminated. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the transfer case needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 161,000. Consumer stated due to the transfer case going bad, it caused transmission to go bad. Consumer was told to bring vehicle to the dealer, smell is on going.

When driving vehicle a severe shuddering vibration and loud noise emanated from front end of vehicle, as if front axel was going to fall off.happened three times so far.once to my wife, once to me, and once to the mechanic. Very frightening each time, causing drivers to pull over and turn off vehicle.then vehicle drives ok for a while.happened while driving straight forward.mechanic states it is a failed power transfer unit.mechanic's research indicated it is a big problem in mazda cx-9 vehicles, and a class action lawsuit was filed and resulted in a settlement.as far as i can tell that settlement does not cover my vehicle year (2008), and is limited to vehicles manufactured after 2010, and which meet certain specifications.mechanic estimates repair will run in the $1100-$1500 range.wondering if i have any recourse with regard to this problem and the fact that it seems a manufacturing defect rather then normal wear and tear.

While making a right turn into a parking place, the right front ball joint broke and cv joint became disconnected, causing the wheel to become disconnected from the car and pushing the wheel well back under the passenger door, making it inoperable.the tow driver said i must have hit something really hard, but in the two and a half years i've had this car, i've never hit anything!i drive a lot for my job and am grateful this didn't happen while i was traveling 70 mph on the highway.it was very scary and has shaken my confidence in this car.i had the car repaired on an emergency basis, but the mechanic told me while the other ball joint was safe enough for me to make the trip home (350 miles), i should definitely get it checked out as well, as it looked suspect for the long term.the car is at the mechanic now, and i was a nervous wreck driving it home earlier today.

I was driving my 2008 mazda cx-9 and the car was smelling like it was burning and then it sounded like a pile of rocks being tossed around. I pulled over to the side of the road and the car came to an abrupt stop and smoke came from underneath the hood. I had it towed to a repair shop and was told the transfer case went out and messed up the transmission. After doing research on the internet i found out this is a common problem that mazda has known about for some time and has failed to notify the customer. This problem has apparently caused vehicles to catch fire while driving. After contacting mazda they say they extended the warranty to 90,000 miles because of this problem but hasn't notified the owners of the vehicle. Mazda says it hasn't been recalled because it isn't a safety issue (which i disagree with, it could cause great harm or death) and it hasn't been reported enough. Mazda said they would not replace the transfer case nor the labor or transmission. I believe this should be recalled since apparently it's happening in all cx-9 vehicles between certain years. It's a defective part, nothing i did and i am left to pay to fix a problem that mazda knows is their fault.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. The contact smelled burning rubber and heard a clicking sound when driving the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000.

Gear oil leaking out of the transfer case vent tube. This is not a normal function. Only way to check level is to remove fill plug and stick finger in. The only safe way to get to this is putting vehicle up on a lift. Researched online and many others are having similar issues. If not caught right away transfer case can fail along with transmission. There is no info on changing this oil at certain intervals. Failure of these two components can happen while driving and could result in injury. I think this should be looked into.

Front axle fell off the car.could hear strange noise when backing up.putin park in driveway and the car started to roll backwards.pulled over to sidewalk and applied emergency brake.called tow truck and axle was found under the car.

In motion, after accelerating, i let up off the gas after reaching 60mph on the freeway and there is a clunking sound accompanied with a jerk coming from the rear end of the vehicle.after slowing, when i lightly step on the gas to maintain a speed it has the clunking sound accompanied by a jerk as well.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx9.the contact stated while driving approximately 10 mph, an abnormal noise emitted from the vehicle while applying the brakes. The failure recurred and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced.the vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 142,000.

I noticed in the last almost year a strange vibration in the suv when i turn, as time went on it got louder. I had couple other parts replaced throughout this time thinking that was the issue. I than find out recently it was the read repeller shaft and another part which connects to the engine also part of the drive shaft. Noise occurs with driving i noticed after searching it is common with this suv

Car make weird vibration noise in the back end . Went to different mechanics and it's a transfer case and driveshaft issue. . looks the problem is in design. Mazda recalled the transfer case from 2010 model and later but not before. Since the same part is used in earlier models requesting recall on earlier models too. I went to 4 different transmission shops and everyone told me that each and every mazda cx-9 comes to them has same issue. Called dealership and they said the extended warranty is after 2010. They have same parts and i or other owners can't afford the repair and it's a manufacturing fault. Looking forward to get help from nhtsa

2008 cx-9 with 110,000 miles transfer case failure with probable damage to transmission. Prognosis was made during repair of leaking rear axel seals when mechanic noticed "chunks of metal" in the the transfer case.

My new 2008 mazda cx-9 awd has gas pedal resonant vibrating issue when engine is right around 2000 rpm when i push gas pedal to accelerate especially when going uphill or turning.

My wife was driving the kids and all of the sudden the car started to make loud noise could not move forward and forced her to stop. Next day we towed to the mechanic's and was told the differential was cracked and it has been several cases of this happening to this car. A week after getting that fixed, i still hear notices when i am driving below 30mils. Now the mechanics tells me the back axle is leaking oil right next to the back differential. This needs to be investigated before a lose of life. If my wife was driving in a highway, there would have been a major accident.

I had a recall notice about potential defect on the airbag system that can cause personal injury on my mazda c-x 9 2008. I contacted the dealer close to my resident as prescribed on the recall notice. They said they will get back with me as soon as the parts are available. It has been more than 3 months and i have not got any response from the dealer. I will be very grateful to get a follow up to see that this my car is fixed. Thanks very much in advance.

The driver's side power seat spontaneously moved all the way forward, and pinned me against the steering wheel. Fortunately, i was parked and not driving. I tried moving the seat adjustment switch manually, but the seat continued to move forward. The vehicle is now at the dealership, and the tell me that they have already corrected a recall (about 8 years ago) which deals with similar problems. And thus they claim the recall is "complete" and they no longer have to correct it.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. While driving 60 mph, the driver's seat unintentionally moved towards the steering wheel. It was difficult for the contact to exit the vehicle due to how close the seat moved towards the steering wheel. The contact also mentioned that the failure occurred periodically. Mazda of orland park (8910 w 159th st, orland park, il 60462, (708) 444-3200) was contacted. The contact was informed that the vehicle was repaired per nhtsa campaign number: 09v066000 (electrical system) in 2009. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.

Current recall where heated seat tends to overheat, but my model year isn't included.i have previously complained about this issue to the dealer before i was even aware of the current recall.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 55 mph, the front driver side electronic power control seat failed causing the driver to become uncomfortably too close to the steering wheel. The contact coasted to the side of the road and placed the contractor to the proper position and was able to drive the vehicle. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was repaired for the failure but the repairs was unknown however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

The electronic seat positioning control on the drivers side seat keeps adjusting on it's own while the vehicle is in motion.it just started today and seemed to do it at any speed, too include while the vehicle was stopped and the brake was applied.i also experienced the same action after i had placed the vehicle in park and turned off the ignition.

I was not in an accident but i feel i could have a defective divers side seat that could come loose (seat rail). I was told by a dealer that the only way to repair the issue is to replace the seat which would cost over $3000.00. If this is happening to other vehicle owners, this could be a safety hazard.

The front passenger and driver seat head rests bend too much forward causing neck pain.this bend cannot be adjusted.mazda says that the headrest specifications were dictated to them by government standards.however, none of the other vehicles i have seen has this much bend. If the vehicle head rest specifications were dictated to them by the government then there is some serious errors in government specs since this unusual bend (haven't seen this much bend on any other vehicle) is causing neck pain.note that i am 6' tall and weigh 180 lbs and will fall in to average consumer physical category and there is nothing unusual about me.i did not have any neck pain prior to purchase of this vehicle.

I noticed that my brakes made a hissing sound at random times. Brakes would not work as usual. After "stomping" on brake, car continued to move for several feet.

Sometimes the blind signal works sometimes it doesn't sometimes it blinks on the screen and when switching lanes, brakes keeps going out ball joint keeps popping hard shift or knock in reverse and when placed in park had repair done several times. Dvd wires keeps going out/shortage m. Sometimes seat belt blinker work and sometimes it doesn't

I had to replace my tires because of the ball joints and causing my wheel to come off. My breaks sounds horrible even after i had them serviced if it rains really bad i get this cranking noise i have a weird sound to my vehicle right now coming from the front of the vehicle again and not sure what's the problem. I'm afraid to drive the vehicle to fast because i have children what's going on with this vehicle

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. The contact stated that the brake pedal was difficult to depress. The contact had to shift the vehicle into park upon coming to a stop due to the failure. The contact also had to allow enough distance between other vehicles due to the brake pedal not completely stopping the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

While driving and coming to a stop, the brake pedal went real hard and car would not stop appropriately. This happened multiple times, checked the brake fluid is full as well as changed brakes themselves..problem still there and progressively worse, un drivable because of compromised braking. There is only 75k miles on this automobile. Having the car towed to local dealer, where i was told that mazda has extended the warranty for braking system, which would take care of this problem as well as reimbursement for towing and expenses. This defect is very dangerouse, there was no warning, no warning light illuminated on the dash, i am very fortunate that this was caught before an accident occurred.

Vehicle suddenly did not brake as expected.brake pedal was hard to press and unresponsive.brakes made noise while depressed.vehicle was being driven at the time, and did not have the issue earlier in the day.

2008 mazda cx-9 has a master cylinder machine problem. We replaced these items in august of 2011 and in less than 16000 miles we have the exact same failure. Nhtsa action number pe11026. Mazda has identified a problem with a manufacturing process dor the master cylinder primary plunger that could result in inappropriate surface finish. We are in the process of replacing these exact same parts today! this is an ongoing safety problem and the mazda dealer told me the vehicle was unsafe to drive and the brakes could fail at any time. Our brakes not only had a soft feel but the distance to stop was greatly increased. We have had to replace the master cylinder and vacuum power assist twice in sixteen thousand miles at a cost of approximately $1300.00.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. While driving approximately 35 mph, the vehicle decelerated independently and the abs and tcs warning lights illuminated. As a result, the tires failed to function correctly. The vehicle was towed to anindependent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, minutes later, the failure persisted. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the pedal switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The brakes are hard to depress and the car is difficult to stop. If i start the car and depress on the brakes at a standstill, the pedal fells hard and goes down really far will i hear a "whistling" sound and also a "hissing" like if air is escaping.

I was driving and all of a sudden i lost the pressure on my brake and my car wont stop. I had to depressed the brake so hard. Then i started hearing a hissing noise while stepping on the brake.

Brake hissing from pedal area and brakes are very hard to press.difficult to stop vehicle without applying lots of pedal force until a certain point where booster starts working and vehicle stops quickly.dangerous at first because vehicle doesn't seem to stop without a great deal of pedal force then suddenly stops quickly after more pedal travel. Also, engine runs rough when hissing sound is heard- probably due to loss of vacuum. Problem is at all speeds. It takes a great deal of distance to stop at higher speeds for emergency braking (very dangerous).

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx9. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the brakes failed to stop the vehicle. The contact was able to safely pull over. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for diagnosis where it was stated that the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.

Brought into the mazda dealer schaumburg,il due to dashboard warning lights came on ; the tcf of light off light ,the red brake light and the stability indicator.the dealer indicated that unaware of any problems related to this incident.claimed their the brake fluid was low but no leak with the brake fluid.the dealer filled up the brake fluid. ( lights would randomly come on when breaking on hills or inclines)i was working in madison , wi. 8/20/12-8/24/12-same problem with vehicle- with warning lights. Although, now i had problems with the brake pedal and stopping the vehicle in traffic. I brought the cx9 to mazda , elmhurst il. The dealer stated the car had the master cylinder and the power booster were leaking brake fluid and needed to be repaired.the failure miles was 54,400 miles.the repair is going to be $950 to repair.i believe that mazda should pay for this repair since my vehicle is one of 37,000 vehicles with the problem that was not repaired . I don't understand why this isn't being checked during the service check ups and or being recalled by mazda.this repair isn't a normal wear and tear repairand the repair should be covered by mazda.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx9. The contact stated that when the brake was depressed, the brake pedal would become stuck to the floorboard and caused an increase in stopping distance.the vehicle was taken to local mechanic whom inspected the vehicle and located the failure at the power brake booster master cylinder. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure and current mileage was 190,000.

My wife was driving our cx-9 with our kids on saturday when the brakes failed. This prevented her from braking at a red light. There were no dash warning lights prior to the incident. The brake fluid was at a recommended level since the vehicle is well maintained. We towed the vehicle to the local mazda dealer (where we originally purchased the vehicle). On removal of the brake booster the mazda dealership found the brake booster failed because it was full of brake fluid. On closer inspection they found the brake master cylinder was cracked which led to the brake booster filling up and causing the brakes to fail. They said the brake master cylinder was not covered under the factory recall since this issue only happens to 2010-2011 model year cx-9's even though our 2008 cx-9 exhibits the same exact brake master cylinder defect. The brake booster was covered under the factory recall (from mazda notes:perform manufacturers recall ssp93 power brake unit warranty). The only thing that prevented a major accident was this happened early on a saturday morning with light traffic. If this would've happened monday-friday at the same time if would've been a severe accident since it's a very busy intersection during the work week. I truly believe this should be investigated for the 2008-2011 mazda cx-9's.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. While exiting the highway and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle failed to stop. The contact swerved to the right and struck a curb, which slowed the vehicle down. The contact quickly shifted into park. In addition, each time the brake pedal was depressed, the sound of blowing air was heard from the driver's side of the dashboard. There was no warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the ray skillman mazda dealership, the vehicle was not physically diagnosed. The technicians verbally informed me immediately of brake booster failure based on the symptoms conveyed. The problem stemmed from a defective brake booster. I did contact the manufacturer (mazda corporate office in california) prior to contacting the nhtsa. Mazda was uncooperative on any agreement of repairs due to the extended warranty period ending that i was unaware of."due to the unethical standing of mazda failing to issue a recall, myself and family were put in great danger when i experienced the brake failure. Had we been aware of the fact that mazda knowingly discovered the manufacturer defect, i would have been proactive in addressing the issue prior to having an almost total life loss and vehicle damage. I requested to escalate my concerns, and spoke with a supervisor that suggested to have the vehicle diagnosed and stated they may or not agree to cover some if any of the charges. After my vehicle sat on the lot for 5 days as we tried to come to an agreement, mazda agreed to cover 50% of the repair cost (parts, labor, and diagnostic fee.) in addition, the technicians also discovered an issue with the brake light not luminating on the dashboard. They determined also the brake light never came on which would have been anindicator of some sort of brake failure. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 136,493.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. While driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle hesitated to stop when the brake pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the brake boosters failed and were leaking brake fluid from the master cylinder. The contact researched online and found an extended warranty for the mazda cx-9 vehicles. The dealer (morrie's inver grove mazda, 10 mendota rd e, inver grove heights, mn 55077, (651) 691-4873) stated that there was an extended warranty specifically for the 2009 mazda cx-9 models, but it had expired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 156,000.

My control arms bearings and joints are rusted and the dealership says they aren't covered they were fixed 5 years ago and they are definitely separated and hazardous

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. While driving various speeds, the brake pedal became difficult to depress without warning. The contact stated that the brake pedal traveled to the floorboard before stopping the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the electronic brake booster failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the warranty had expired. The local dealer was not contacted. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 126,000.repaired 10/10/17

O was operating the vehicle and the brakes became spongy and failed to stop the vehicle unless i increased the effort to depress the brake pedal down. Foot has slipped on occasion causing my ankle to be struck on the pedal. I now down shift gears to slow the vehicle to assist in stopping while keeping even further back from vehicles in front of me. Currently, no recalls are out specifically for my vin but the year make and model are consistent with the current recalls out for bad master brake cylinder and brake booster. Both of which have failed in my vehicle. I have contacted the gaithersburg md mazda dealership and they insist the vehicle is not recalled and are suggesting i pay out of pocket for a known recall on these vehicles. Any assistance would be greatly appropriated. Thank you

Hard to push the brake pedals and always hear a hissing noise whenever stepping the brakes. It is a commonly known-problem with brake booster diaphragms, and mazda agreed for "special service program" that extends the warranty coverage for repairing this condition to unlimited time and mileage, but i never received any notice.no incident yet, but almost crashed on freeway and at especially downhill stops several times.need to be replaced by mazda asap!

Master cylinder leak causing the brake booster to go out as well.suspension weak and rusty. Mazda refuses to address the problem.

Lately, my cx-9 does not come to a complete stop within the expected distance (stop sign or signal), for the usual brake pedal travel. I had to lift my foot and brake hard to bring it to stop. Otherwise, cx-9 remains a pleasant vehicle to drive and ride.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. The contact was driving 20 mph when the brakes were depressed and the vehicle failed to stop properly, and crashed into a gate. The crash caused no injuries and the police were not contacted. The same failure recurred on multiple separate occasions and without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the dealer confirmed that both the master cylinder and power booster were leaking brake fluid and needed to be replaced. The manufacturerwas contacted. The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx9. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 mph, the brake warning indicator illuminated on the instrument panel. The indicator remained illuminated until the engine was turned off. The failure had not been diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact stated that the defect could possibly be contributed to an internal brake fluid leak. Currently, there was an open investigation under nhtsa action number pe11026 (service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:master cylinder). The approximate failure mileage was 46,000.

My wife pulled the vehicle shifting gear in reverse with her purse without pressing on the brakes pedal. After the fact, i double and triple checked it, and this vehicle can shift gear without engaging the brakes pedal.

I was making a left turn on a parking lot when i heard a loud crunch coming from the front of the vehicle and fully lost control of the car. When i came outside to see what happened i saw that ball joint on my front left (driver side) broke, the wheel with part of the axel fullyout, and that break fluid was spoiled all over. Imagine this happening on the fighter when i was driving with two of my young kids!!

On 06 june 2015 at approximately 1400 my wife was making a left hand turn through an intersection at approximately 15 mph. Near the end of the turn the front passenger wheel broke loose turning nearly 90 degrees to the right and jammed itself into the rear of the fender well. The car was immediately immobilized and came to an abrupt halt in the middle of the intersection. Looking at the damage it was obvious that the lower ball joint had failed and broke completely free. This caused the wheel to turn nearly 90 degrees to the right which subsequently ripped out the cv axle from the transmission. Had this occurred at highway speeds the results could have been deadly. The vehicle had to be towed to a repair facility where the control arm/ball joint assembly, the cv shaft, and sway bar link was replaced. There is also fender well and body damage that will have to be repaired.on 10 july 2015, i noticed an unusual instability while negotiating wide turns on the highway. It felt as if the vehicle had a wheel loose. While turning to the right, the vehicle would abruptly turn even sharper to right almost causing an unintentional lane change. After coming out of the turn i could feel the vehicle suddenly correct itself. Once i arrived at my residence i jacked up the front end of the vehicle to inspect the front wheels. The front passenger wheel seemed normal (was repaired in june 2015 as mentioned above). Much to my dismay when inspecting the front driver side wheel, i discovered that the ball joint on this side is now broke. It is not separated, but is clearly broken as evidenced by the excessive movement and clunking noise when moving the wheel from side to side as it is suspended above the ground from the car being on a jack. I will be having this repaired this week once parts arrive from the local mazda dealer. Bottom line: i no longer feel safe in this vehicle.

I had been hearing a knocking noise in my car when i went to make left or right hand turns for approximately a week. After having my mechanic investigate he took a look at the ball joints, they are 'non-serviceable,' which means they are a sealed unit. He said from what he could tell they were fine. Later that day i attempted to pull out of a parking space. My wheels were spinning in the snow, i got out and took a look and my front left tire was off! the ball joint was no longer attached thecar. The only thing securing the wheel to the car was the tie rod. After having it towed to my garage both lower control arms were replaced on the vehicle (one per side) along with the cv joint. They were replaced with mazda parts. Inspection on the passenger right side revealed there was barely any grease in that ball joint. I had luck on my side that day otherwise i am certain someone would have died.

My control arms bearings and joints are rusted and the dealership says they aren't covered they were fixed 5 years ago and they are definitely separated and hazardous

2007, 2008 & 2009 mazda cx9 has steering problems. When you don't hold it tightly, the car will veer to the left 80% of the time and 20% to the right. The car will not go straight at any speeds and on even pavements such as a car park.

Was driving on neighborhood road, heading toward a state highway when all of the sudden a large boom occurred and i lost total control of the car and went up the curb and onto the sidewalk.i thought i'd blown a tire but got out and saw the entire wheel was disconnected - the suspension ruined.would be happy to share picturesmechanic says ball joint, cv joint came completely off as well as brake fluid all over.i read online about similar issues and that nhtsa has an open investigation under nhtsa action number: pe15022.consider this another case!i'm thankful there were no people that i swerved into when losing control! this is clearly a safety hazard- ay least in states where salt is used on roads, like here in mni expect mazda to take responsibility and pay for these repairsplease contact me with additional info or next steps.thank you!information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx9.the contact was driving approximately 15 mph when the steering wheel became extremely stiff.the contact was unable to maintain control of the vehicle and was involved in a crash with another vehicle. The driver was injured. A police report was available. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair facility where repairs were made to the body damage. Prior to the crash, the contact was advised by an authorized dealer that the vehicle exhibited a power steering fluid leak. The dealer was unable to make repairs because the parts needed were not readily available and on back order. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 33,000 and the current mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx9.after driving 200 miles the contact noticed that the contact steering wheel began to malfunction. While driving approximately 22 mph, the steering wheel moved to the left 80% of the time without him touching it. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and after inspecting in, the dealer stated that they were unable to repair it. The contact drove a 2009 model and stated that the vehicle had the identical steering failure. The vehicle was not been repaired when the complaint was filed. The manufacturer has not been informed of this failure. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 70 and the current mileage was 17,000.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. The contact stated that the air bag indicator was illuminated. While driving 20 mph, the steering wheel was loose and pulled while making turns. Additionally, the passenger side of the vehicle shook. The vehicle was taken to cj wilson mazda (8910 w 159th st, orland park, il 60462) where it was diagnosed that a wheel alignment was needed and a tie rod replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was 237,000.

I had the recall done on the a arms and ball joints replaced and it's only been a year also the rear stablizer links have failed also again after factory replacement.

08 mazda cx-9 making loud noise underneath vehicle. Made a right turn(5mph) in residential area. While making the turn the left side suspension/steering came apart causing vehicle to come to a sudden stop. Vehicle was towed and later repaired at a firestone auto care. Vehicle needed repairs to control arm assembly(remove-replace f control arm/lower one side).. Left new cv complete assembly(remove/install f axle shaft assembly-left). Sway bar link(remove/replace f stabilizer bar control link-both). Replace front shock/strut assemly-both sides.sudden stop also caused damage to left front tire that had to be replaced. Total amount of repairs $1,756.96. Providing this information after reading on internet that nhtsa was investigating similar complaints involving this vehicle and front end problems.

While taking a right hand turn in the parking lot of logan airport, and travelling about 5-10 mph, my car made a loud noise and came to a sudden and abrupt halt.i stepped out of the car and discovered that the driver's side front tire had disconnected from the steering arm.the car was immobilized, and i was not able to move it out of the way of other traffic in the airport parking lot, causing chaos in the parking lot and causing them to temporarily shut down an entire floor of the parking lot while they struggled to tow the car out of the way.the car was subsequently towed to a mazda dealership and the tire arms and ball joints were repaired pursuant to a recall (8515g).the front tires were also unevenly worn and replaced, very likely from the ball joint / steering arm issue, and cost $481.55.mazda would not reimburse for the tires because i could not locate receipts to prove i had rotated the tires at the appropriate intervals, specifically stating "our dealer was unable to confirm if the wearing of the tires were due to the recall item as there was no supporting documentation indicating the proper maintenance on the tires".i do not believe most people keep records of every oil change / tire rotation they have done, but the wear was very consistent with what would be expected for ball joint issues.furthermore the car had been inspected by the state of massachusetts in the month of september, and no uneven wear was found at that time, giving further indication that the uneven wear was linked to the ball joint / tire rod issue.fortunately this did not occur one day earlier while towing a boat on the highway with my disabled son, this could have easily been a multi fatality accident.i have literally had nightmares over this possibility.this is an extremely dangerous situation.

Lost control brakes failing and steering and wheel lc about to fall off dealerships saying recall was completed but it's definitely not

From day 1 the carhas been road-crazy...you have to continually correct to left and right...dealership says from "crown in the road"....have had it re-aligned numerous times..has 25k now and front tires are nearly worn out...has 20" wheels (which they no longer offer as option).

Lost control brakes failing and steering and wheel lc about to fall off dealerships saying recall was completed but it's definitely not

Went to dealership for an oil change and they stated that we needed to replace our lower ball joints, control arms, tie rod ends and sway bar links because nhtsb has been receiving complaints about 2008 mazda cx-9s crashing due to these items failing.the dealership brought it our attention that due to safety concerns, we needed those items replaced.they scared us to death. We spend $1,125 to replace the items.i now have done research and it appears they were correct, there have been catastrophic cases where the cars crashed due to the suspension parts failing.i sure hope that nhtsb moves forward and makes mazda perform a recall.hopefully i can get my money back from paying for this service.my vehicle only has 75k miles on it...updated 08/20/15updated 12/10/15

I was driving slowly and approaching a stop sign. As soon as i stopped i heard a loud noise and my car jerked forward. The front driver side wheel disengaged from the vehicle and was jutting out at an angle. I could not move the car whatsoever. The tow truck driver informed me that my ball joint and axle had broken. This could have caused a very serious accident, especially if we had been driving faster or on the freeway--i'm very lucky my passenger and i were not hurt.

》takara recall ----- nhtsa campaign number: 15v451000《my car started with a scratching or grinding noise that i thought was the brakes but i just recently changed so i kept driving. When it would rain it would make noises i cant remember what exactly it was i think it was like popping. Only when it rained and i was turning. Well it turned into when i was driving anytime it was popping and cracking and then it turned into some crazy noise that almost sounded like something was falling out the bottom of my car and i was dragging on the ground but i wasnt dragging anything. I think it got water inside the ball joint and rusted.nhtsa campaign number: 15v451000

I own a 2008 mazda cr-9 whose left front wheel fell off the axle while pulling into driveway backwards (with my child in the car) with front wheels turned left. It made a loud noise and i was unable to move the car or turn the wheels. I called for a tow to virginia tire and auto and they diagnosed the left ball joint broken which caused the axle to come out - irreversibly damaging both items so they had to be completely replaced for $1,131.42!. I kept the damaged lf lower control arm for proof and can send two pictures i took.i want to stress that 5 days earlier, i drove the mazda to ocean city, a three hour drive.had the ball joint broken during highway driving - my whole family could have been killed. This is not a situation to be taken lightly and i would like to hear from mazda (wrote separate letter) since complaints posted on carcomplaints.com indicate that there have been six (6) similar complaints made since may 2015 indicating there is an investigation under way. These complaints all indicate that the six owners of the 2007-2008 mazda cx-9 say the lower ball joints "separate in the front suspension and cause the front wheel to dislodge from he car". The national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) has opened an investigation into reports of lower ball joints breaking (suspension problems).i sincerely hope that mazda will recall all the 54,000 cars which could be affected and compensate the owners of the vehicles which had the wheel fall off while the car was moving.this could be a life and death situation and not taken lightly....updated 09/22/15

Lower ball joint failure:while driving at slow speed on a residential side street, the lower ball joint on the front drivers side broke while going around a right hand turn, causing the car to skid on the then partially attached front drivers side tire and then skidded to a stop.the vehicle was then towed because it could not be driven.

2008 mazda cx-9 grand touring all wheel drive with 20 inch (upgrade) wheels housed in northern va has had a series of suspension system issues.in december 2014 the front driver-side wheel bearing broke while driving from new york to dc.luckily the roaring sound was noticed and the car was taken to a mr tire in time before the wheel fell off.front tire wear was also extremely uneven and tires were replaced.now in summer 2015 a creaking noise while going over bumps and hard turns resulted in the discovery that the front lower ball bearings were loose/had too much play, and we replaced the front lower control arms, swaybar links and bushings, and a broken rear differential mount.mazda dealer suggests these are normal wear and tear issues. It feels like the suspension system is not designed to manage the weight of the car and normal city/bumpy/pothole driving.

My complaint is mazda rejected my reimbursement claim based on their "policy" of having only a mazda dealer perform the repairs.i do not accept the rejection.we tried to schedule with mazda.no chance.they are too booked.my wife is a school teacher.we must have the vehicle.a long story short, attached are (3) items:the recall notice from mazda, the receipt from my excellent mechanic and the mazda rejection letter.my goal here is to alert you that mazda is being unrealistic.my mechanic is award winning (i watched him remove an engine from a porsche 911.his a master.also, we have four old cars.mazda is just stupid.maybe you can use this as a case study to train new employees.i still want my money.sincerely [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

When driving under 20 mph entering into our neighborhood, heard a loud "pop" - then the front left tire suspension 'popped off' the tire, causing the car to lose control and hit the curb with the right tire.it appears that the suspension just "popped off" the joint causing the tire to become 'dislodged' from the vehicle - and sent the car into the curb - see pictures.no police report was taken as it did not involve personal injury nor another vehicle.upon investigation on the web, it appears that nhtsa has an open investigation into similar problems with 2007/2008 mazda cx-9s (see action number:pe15022) - which is why i am writing to you now.

Master cylinder leak causing the brake booster to go out as well.suspension weak and rusty. Mazda refuses to address the problem.

My control arms bearings and joints are rusted and the dealership says they aren't covered they were fixed 5 years ago and they are definitely separated and hazardous

When i brought the car within 30 days the axle broke they fixed it but i haven't had the car for 4 months and now the transfer case is cracked they want me to pay 800 dollars to fix it but i did nothing wrong he hasn't fixed my key after he said he will he stated after the axle was fixed that he needed to add transmission fluid which he did not ever add and now my transfer case is broke i was driving and heard a large boom i thought the axle broke again and the 4wd light came on so i was able to drive it back and now they telling me it's my fault that it happened i didn't do anything but drive the car i brought the car september 5th 2019 i had to take the car back because the seat wouldn't work the axle broke now the other issue

On tuesday may 31, 2016 i took my mazda cx9 to mazda dealership for the recall, reference ##15v451000.i told the service representative that i was glad to be bringing the car in as it was making noises in the driver front and that the steering seemed loose.i was told that my car was inspected, did not require the recall and that all suspension parts were in good working order.on sunday, june 5, 2016 while entering the highway while driving my 2 children and elderly mother, my ball joint and lower control arm broke causing an accident on the highway on ramp.i was informed by police that i was lucky this had not occurred moments later (at high speed) as it was likely to have caused a severe or possibly fatal accident.the car was not drive able and required me tow my vehicle and find alternative transportation.

As i was turning right to exit a parking lot there was a loud noise from the front of my 2008 mazda cx-9 and i was unable to move the steering wheel or move the vehicle forward.i exited the vehicle to see what may have caused it and observed that my front driver's side tire was misaligned.upon further inspection i discovered metal shavings and a large metal object hanging down from the bottom of the vehicle, appearing to block the tire rim.a tow truck was called and the vehicle was transported to a mechanic, where they determined the two lower ball joints were broken and needed to be replaced.

Ball joints warn had to replace both front control arms-work at mazda deal was told very common problem i don't know why there isn't safety recall on this

I was pull out of my office parking lot and turned right on to a 1 lane road. As i turned right the lower ball joint dislodged from the control arm. It pull the drivers side transaxle with it and it tie rod ends. Slamming my car to a halt and almost causing an accident with the car behind me. The wheel faced left even though my car was still slighty turning right. This is a danger and a hazard, i've also heard this is serious problem amongst other cx-9 drivers....

Left lower control arm ball joint fail and ripped left cv axel. Right side ball joint was loose and right lower control arm was replaced, at the moment the car still cant do tight turn without clicking noise. Left lower control arm was replaced complete with ball joint

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle suddenly jerked and came to a sudden halt without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the front ball joint and axle fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 115,000.

When making a u-turn (left turn) at under 10 mph the vehicle made a loud noise and it shuttered to a stop. I called my husband and waited for him to arrive. When he arrived, he (and the police) attempted to push the car in neutral, but the car would not budge.he walked around the car and observed that the front right passenger wheel was turned out and resting against the fender.this exposed the suspension and he saw the ball joint and suspension had broken loose. The ball joint had ripped out from its housing and the suspension bar hadbroken apart at the wheel. There were parts on the ground along with grey fluid which was coming out from the hole left by the ball joint coupling. The fender was also damaged by the wheel. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for repair. The police officer noted that we were lucky that this did not happen on the highway as it would have likely ended up flipping the car as it was such a severe failure.it took the tow-truck operator over 20 minutes to get he car onto the tow truck as the wheel could not be steered due to the failures.

My 2008 mazda cx-9 has leaking struts and shocks.the car is one year old and has a little over 14,000 miles on it.the dealer stated that was seepage due to being over filled at the factory, but if you wipe off the excess film the fluid continues to form.seepage or leakage, doesn't matter it shouldn't do either especially on the front of a vehicle.the business where i have my oil changed and tires rotated have checked the struts and shocks stating the problem is leaking not seeping.the dealer says they called the mazda field representative for this area and they know of the problem and still maintain it's seeping because of being overfilled at factory.how long should seeping occur?i'm concerned about strut failure or shock failure while i'm driving.

While driving went to make right turn to have car serviced for unknown clicking when i would only make right turns. When turning into parking lot i heard a loud bang and auto was immobile at that point. I exited and found left front tire turned sideways. I had various damage to left front wheel area having to replace ball joint, lower control arm, bent axle and rim damage. I was also inform from irwin mazda that right ball joint had issues and i also had that replaced.

A very frightening incident occurred saturday august 29, 2015 approx 6:45 p.m. After a round trip travel on the highway for approx 80 miles. I drove just over a mile off the highway exit, came to a stop sign light then proceeded with a right turn. Suddenly without any previous warning the car made a jerking/skidding type movement, something seemed to drop out of the front end and the car came abruptly to a stop. Several peoplepulled over to see if i and my one month old granddaughter were ok as i was at a very busy intersection. A bystander told me that the drivers front tire was facing out to the left of the vehicle and there was considerable damage under the car as well. It is my understanding that the ball joint separated, the shaft or axle may have broken, and there may be other severe damage as there was also oil on the road.my tire was as mentioned.it is also noted that i am unable to completely open my drivers door door now possibly due to body misalignment now. I have pictures of any visible damage to the car. I am appalled after researching this problem that mazda will be conducting a recall in september but has yet to send out notices to customers.in fact a second notice will eventually come out when parts are available.had i not just come off the highway my car would have definitely flipped over and my granddaughter and i would have been killed.this is 1000% unacceptable.i want action now.i don't know what the extent of damage is to the car, nor do i want the car repaired, instead i want mazda to replace it! not only i have experienced much anxiety from this i am also incurring tow charges, storage charges and rental car charges.i was advised to have an independent mechanic look at the vehicle before sending to mazda but that would entail another tow charge and mechanic fee.none of which i can afford. Mazda must take immediate action.

From day 1 the carhas been road-crazy...you have to continually correct to left and right...dealership says from "crown in the road"....have had it re-aligned numerous times..has 25k now and front tires are nearly worn out...has 20" wheels (which they no longer offer as option).

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 15v451000 (suspension) however, the dealer and the manufacturer declined to remedy the recall repair. The contact was informed by the manufacturer that the vehicle had not reached the inspection threshold for immediate repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

Upon entering a parking lot at approximately 15 mph the vehicle made a noise, skidded to a sudden stop, and then would not move.i exited the vehicle and immediately noticed the front passenger wheel sidewaysresting against the inner fender, along with several metallic parts and fluid on the ground.the car was towed to the dealer where we bought the vehicle when new, and where we always have it serviced .the tow truck driver had said the axle broke and we were lucky it did not occur on the highway 15 minutes sooner.the dealer replaced a left broken ball joint, axle and control arm, as well as broken fender linings and moldings.this cost us over $2000.we had complained to the dealer several weeks before about a noise while turning the vehicle, but were told we only needed an alignment.i now believe the dealer did not properly inspect the ball joint, which was already damaged and failing.twelve months after this incident the left control arm and ball joint required replacement.and eight months after that the driveshaft, transfer case and transmission all required replacement, costing us another $5000 in repairs.i am suspicious that all of these failures may be related to the initial incident when my cx-9 skidded to the sudden stop on the left broken axle.but when i contacted mazda regarding allof these issues my case was completely dismissed as the vehicle had over 100,000 miles and was out of warranty coverage.i have never submitted a complaint until i found out there was an investigation into 2008 cx-9's with broken ball joints, exactly as what occurred in my vehicle. My vehicle has been regularly serviced at our dealer, and i really do not believe the ball joint should have broken as it did. I am grateful we were not traveling 60 mph.i believe this is a serious safety issue and am extremely disappointed with this mazda vehicle.

This is a 2008 cx-9 grand touring awd that was going northbound on indiana highway 31 and then made a u-turn to go southbound. As the car speed got up to 35mph going southbound, there was a sudden jerk and loud noise and in the front of the car and felt like it was dragging on something. The car became very difficult to maneuver but was able to pull to the side of the road. Luckily there wasn't any other cars or traffic around us at the time of incident. When i got out to inspect the car, i noticed that the passenger side tire was turned outward at a 90 deg angle and the lower ball joint was completely detached.the car was no longer drivable and had to be towed.

I had brought my 2008 mazda cx-9 to the dealership for service before a long road trip.i mentioned that the car was pulling severely when turning or rounding a curve.i thought that it needed an alignment. While i was waiting at the dealership for my car to be repaired the technician came to get me to explain that he could not let me drive my car because i could be killed.he stated that the ball joints had separated from the left and right lower control arms.my husband questioned the technician about the likelihood of this happening and the tech told him that it was wear and tear.we found this hard to believe!we felt at this point there was nothing else to do but to approve the repairs and paid the $883.66 plus labor!

I heard a loud noise as i turned left into a driveway and came to a stop. The car wouldn't move forward or backward. When i got out to inspect, i found that the left front tire had disengaged. The car was towed to a non-dealer service facility, which determined that the left front ball joint had broken. The ball joint, axle and sway bar link were replaced. The next week, i returned the car to the service facility, and they determined that the same repairs were needed on the right front, as well as replacement of the tie rod ends on the left front. About a month after these repairs, i took my car to my local mazda dealer for a full ("used car") inspection. I mentioned the repairs i'd had done, and they said they weren't aware of any problems with ball joints on cx-9s. I had been traveling on the freeway (70 mph) not five minutes before the ball joint broke. I hate to think what would have happened if it had broken at that speed.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx9. The contact stated that while driving 40 mph, the front driver's side tire came became detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the lower control arm and ball joint were corroded. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. While driving at 10 mph, the front suspension lower ball joint separated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician diagnosed that the ball joints needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 160,000. The vin was not available.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9. When the weather is cold the front passenger right tire lost pressure and increased from 32 psi to 25 psi. He replaced the tire on one occasion and that did not correct the failure. Air was added to the tire on several occasions by a local repair facility and on two occasions by the dealer. The dealer stated that the tire pressure sensor valve monitor was defective and has caused the tire to lose pressure. The estimated cost to replace the tire pressure sensor valve monitor was $300.00.he contacted the manufacturer and filed report number 127407340. The manufacturer stated that they would not assist with the cost to replace the tire sensor monitor. The failure mileage was 16,000 and the current mileage 36,000.

2008 cx-9 mazda with 25,644 miles appears to have exact same problem as recalled toyotas in that the driver's cx-9 original rubber floor mat moves up towards front of vehicle with use & lodges under the plastic panel on the lower left side of the foot well, (photographs available upon request). When the floor mat lodges under plastic panel in this manner, it causes both the tcs indicator light and the tcs off light to permanently illuminate.tcs / brake assist system ceases to function & cannot be overridden with tcs on/off button. Vehicle is under warranty and has been brought to dealership twice for same issue.the first time the tcs system was "re-set" by computer & was advised by service tech. That vehicle was now fine, (floor mat involvement unknown at this time).the second time, the vehicle was brought back in, (less than 5,000 miles after first time it was brought in), as the tcs indicator light / tcs off light were illuminated and tcs brake assist system was not operating and service tech spent most of morning with vehicle.at the end of this visit, the service tech. Advised that he had determined incidents were caused by floor mat moving up under brake / gas pedal & that mat was "interfering with the brake assist system in that it was preventing it from completing the circuit".i was advised to remove the floor mat from the vehicle.clips to secure the mat would prevent these incidents.note: when the floor mat becomes lodged while driving, i cannot physically dislodge it from under the plastic panel until stopped as two hands (and a lot of strength) are needed to do so.i find their recommendation to remove the floor mat unacceptable as the floor mat traps dirt / debris.i continue to use the floor mat but am extremely careful about not allowing it to move while driving.others may not know potential hazard exists.(service tech noted incidents not related to service bulletin re: tcs indicator light remaining illuminated.)

I'm thankful i was notgoing 75mph on the highway with my children in my car instead i was driving 30 mph coming to a stop at a red light on a small city street my mazda cx-9 without a warning started hiccuping and came to a complete stop and not able to power up again we had it towed to a mazda dealer was told our make model of car has a tsb code issued code # 01-026/11 dealer told us car needs new pcm (computer) and new coils they weren't sure if coils ruinedpcm or pcm damage coils.

The airbags warning light just came on a couple days for my car and i took it the mazda dealer to diagnose and they said the passenger airbags and the sas module need to be replaced but warranty safety is only up to 60000 miles. My car has 76998 miles.but this is a safety issue and mazda has lots problem with airbags recalls.

Defect in transfer case.

I was about to leave from my residential parking lot.i went to check my wheelchair was secure.i opened the liftgate. After securing the wheelchair i pressed the electronic button to close the liftgate. I heard 3 beeps, but the door/liftgate would not close.i turned thecar off and on, i got out the manual began to try several things to close the door/liftgate.i locked and unlocked the door locks, i checked nothing blocking the sensors.i used the power control button under the dashboard and the door still would not close. I did this for an hour. Finally, something happened &was able to close the door/liftgate by hand. I took the car to a reputable machanic. They found "mazda" had a "tsb" out about the liftgate lock assembly and if the lock fails, replace the entire part.i took the car to a mazda dealer. The cost to special order the part and repair would cost approx. $1200.i can not afford to replace the lock. I i am a hadicapped person.i use mobility devices to help me remain mobile and get to and from doctors and therapy.. I cannot transport these devices( wheelchair, electric skooter/chair) because of the liftgate lock problem.i'm fearful the assembly will lock permanently and effect the door locks. Please, please assist me so the liftgate can be repaired.thank you.

I was referred to contact you regarding unintended acceleration cases with the mazda cx-9s.i was a victim of this on january 2, 2013.upon researching, i was made aware that several other consumers have posted their experience that exactly matched what i experienced.i need to take legal action and warn other innocent drivers before someone is killed or maimed.i have been seeking legal action because mazda is doing a complete cover up, identical to how toyota handled their unintentional acceleration cases for many years before people began dying.to date, i have been told by all attorneys i have contacted that had i been killed or maimed, i would have a case.i can not believe in this country that we have to wait until people are maimed or killed when we have plenty of evidence that there is a deadly problem.there must be something we can do before innocent people have to die.mazda told me (just like all the other victims) there was absolutely nothing wrong with my car, they could not replicate the 60 mph to 100+ mph unintended acceleration during rush hour and that no repairs would be made.eleven days later, mazda corporate called to tell me that my parts had been ordered and would be installed that day.i said "what parts??!!!"they told me to call the dealer who was shocked that i knew about the repairs and told me that yes, they were replacing parts but they had nothing to do with the unintended acceleration.now that the car has been fixed, i'm not able to prove that there was anything wrong with it.had there been snow or other road conditions, i would have been in a major accident.i have lots of back up documentation i can provide. .i pushed as hard as i could with both feet on the brake (knees locked), the emergency brake on and the car in park.with all of those actions combined, my car still would not stop.no damage-impossible!

I am reporting two incidents of engine revving that occurred without my foot on the accelerator.in the first incident (sep 2015), i started the car in the driveway. After a couple seconds, the engine started revving really fast even though my foot was on the brake, not on the accelerator. I remained in park and turned off the ignition.after re-starting the car, everything behaved normally.in the second incident (dec 6, 2015), i started the car, put it in reverse, and was backing up in a grocery store parking lot.the car suddenly acccelerated backward with the engine revving.i was able to stop it by depressing the brake hard, and then changed the transmission from reverse to drive.the revving stopped and the car drove normally after that.i felt lucky to have stopped the car, however, and it went backwards further and faster than wanted.i checked the floor mats and brake/accelerator area for any objects, and everything was in the correct place.i have not yet had the car evaluated by a mechanic or dealership, but now plan to do that soon.

I'm having with my 09 cx-9. Lightly accelerating around 30-35mph, sometimes the whole car shakes. Doesn't happen all the time. Heavier acceleration or no acceleration fixes the problem but had dobbs check it, but nothing shows up on diagnostics and at first they couldn't get it to repeat.i had to explain that it doesn't happen when you accelerate, but when you sort of hover not giving it gas and not braking and only when at 35-40 mph.

(sun roof glass exploded) at 400pm we were traveling north on us65 at 65 mph, the sun roof was in the tilted open position, the nearest traffic to our location was 500 yards ahead of us. The music was playing and the four vehicle occupants were relaxed and talking. Suddenly with a very loud sound the sun roof glass exploded/shattered covering all occupants in glass shards. The driver maintained complete control on the vehicle and made an immediate emergency stop. The passenger front occupant injured her neck during the violent reaction from the sound/explosion and covering in glass and will need treatment. Nothing struck the vehicle!!! this failure was caused by the sun roof and needs to be addressed by mazda and the glass supplier. The type of failure could very well cause a serious accident and could cause loss of life. The sun roof glass should be re-enforced to prevent glass from spraying on the vehicles occupants. We have contacted mazda north america and were offered a 250.00 good will amount, money was never our issue of concern, this is a very serious safety issue and the root cause should be found and corrected before someone gets seriously injured. This type of failure is noted in many accounts on the internet and needs to addressed.

The contact owns a 2008 mazda cx-9.while driving 45 mph, the contact noticed a wave in the windshield.when he passes other objects, the waves appear to ripple.the contact took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the windshield; however, the failure persists.the dealer has been authorized to make another replacement.the vin, engine size, and number of cylinders were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 860. I had to replace my tires because of the ball joints and causing my wheel to come off. Lost control brakes failing and steering and wheel lc about to fall off dealerships saying recall was completed but it's definitely not

I had to replace both front wheel bearings by 73,000 miles. I would consider this a wheel bearing defect, as i never had to replace this on any of my cars during my 27 years of driving. Mazda cx-9 is based on ford edge and ford is known for bad wheel hub/bearings and this may be related. Shouldn't this be recalled? i'm unhappy with this car as i feel this repair is too soon and not cheap, $650-700 per wheel. If the car was over 100-150k miles, then i would understand one wheel bearing replacement, but two within 73k miles? read some blogs that it's not unusual to replace all four wheel bearings on this car under 100k miles. Please advise, as this isn't safe for moms driving with young children like my wife, let alone others. This car should be investigated, recalled asap and repaired free of charge or refunded. Thank you.

Tire sensor failure has twice now caused blow out of tires while driving, luckily no injury since going at low speed in neighborhood. Also keep having issues with loosing tire pressure. Now i see this is a known problem with this vehicle make model and year

While driving vehicle on road at approximatley 20 mph the wheel detached from the axle on the front passenger side of the vehicle resulting in damage to the vehicle.

While driving on a city street, the spare tire which is mounted under the vehicle detached and fell onto the road. Inspection of the spare tire undercarriage mountingbracket showed no signs of damage; it's not clear how the tire became detached.
