The contact owns a 2017 mazda cx-5. The contact stated that the smart city brake system failed to function properly when activated and modified to a specific distance or speed. The dealer (mazda of mesquite, 15900 lyndon b johnson fwy, mesquite, tx 75150, (972) 686-6200) was notified, but was unable to replicate and diagnose the failure. The manufacturer provided a tsb that indicated that, without a warning indicator or warning chime, the function was not able to be replicated and the system was performing normally. The manufacturer did not send a technician to test drive the vehicle and determine if the function was properly working. The failure mileage was 0.
The mazda connect touch screen in the center display doesn't always accept touch commands properly and regularly operates by itself (ghost touch) while in drive.
Mazda infotainment system malfunction, the infotainment system keeps rebooting while drive, stationary, in motion & on a city/highway, using the navigation system becomes dangerous, can't use the infotainment system at all.
While driving my 2017 mazda cx-5, the smart city brake support (scbs) indicator illuminates on the dash. This has happened multiple times over the past several months, on clear, sunny days and in rain and/or snow; on city streets and highways. The rate of driving speed varies from approx 10 to 65 mph. The indicator stays on for anywhere from 20 seconds or until the vehicle is stopped (upwards of 20 minutes). Service techs at local dealer were able to pull the fault code from the computer, but it was generic and gave no guidance. Mazda initially acknowledged this was a problem and replaced the camera that controls the system (mounted interior of car at windshield), but when problem persisted with the new camera, mazda said it's "normal" for the lamp illumination to display on the dash under various driving conditions and referenced service alert sa-052/17, which discusses fog, rain, exhaust gas from vehicle in front, etc. Triggering the scbs. According to this service alert, a dirty windshield will also trigger the warning light to illuminate. This is a safety concern because not only is the scbs not functioning properly, when the light illuminates it distracts from the act of driving.
The car stalled while in motion on the highway with 56 miles left in the gas tank. This caused a very dangerous situation due to the fact that i could not accelerate at all, as the traffic was speeding past. I had to coast through traffic to the safety of the shoulder of the road. Once the vehicle came to a stop, it wouldn't restart and it seemed as if it never actually stopped trying to restart. I noticed a few things during this situation. 1. The check engine light came on 2. All the dash board lights appeared to come on 3. The emergency brake and hold button for city parking brake were flashing at the center counsel 4. The dashboard warnings rotated between, city parking brake, parking brake, cruise system disabled 5. The battery finally died after several minutes of this happening my family and i were brought to safety by a state trooper and had the vehicle towed to a gas station. We filled the gas tank, jumped the car and it has not had the issue since. Unfortunately the rear lift gate has only worked one time after the event but i am not sure what is going on there. I had this same issue happen once in 2019, and the vehicle restarted. I took it to a mazda dealer and they said it may have been bad gasoline. The vehicle issue seems to match a similar issue mentioned in recall 3719f.
The back up camera fails to operate at times for a day or half a day. Sometimes it appears black and other it just shows the volume with an x over it, but no picture of the rear. I have checked each time and there is nothing blocking the camera in the rear. The first time it occurred there was just a few thousand miles, then again about 5,000 and then again at 9465 miles. I was in park with foot on the brake and in reverse. No image appeared and then when backing up in motion it did not work either. It has happened over 3 times in the first 10 months of owning the vehicle and the dealer will not fix it because they cannot reproduce it. It is intermittent. The car had a similar problem with the front camera which was finally replaced after 7 months after my many trips to dealers. It was reported to you also.
The contact owns a 2017 mazda cx-5. While driving approximately 5 mph in bumper-to-bumper traffic, the seat heater became very hot. In an attempt to turn down the seat heater, where the switch button was "exactly an inch" from the ignition switch, the contact unintentionally hit the ignition switch button and caused the vehicle to shut off in the middle of traffic. The check engine indicator illuminated. The contact was unable to immediately restart the vehicle. The contact called the california highway patrol. The vehicle restated 15 minutes before the highway patrol arrived at the scene. The vehicle was towed to fremont mazda located in the fremont auto mall (39800 balentine dr, newark, ca 94560) where it was diagnosed that the seat heater switch was too close to the ignition switch. The technician stated that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue, but did not assist. The failure mileage was approximately 3,300.
Known ghosting issue caused by manufacturing and diagnosed by mazda. The lights inside flicker, the radio/navigation/telephone (bluetooth) starts, stops, and moves as it wants to. This causes distractions and is unsafe while driving. There are recalls on other model cars for this, however, mazda won't fix my car even though they acknowledge this was a manufacturing problem.
Codes appear on the dashboard showing brake dysfunction, smart brake system disabled, master errors, and multiple other error messages.navigation turns on by itself and flashes and moves or changes locations.the vehicle will brake by itself while driving on the freeway when nothing else is around near me (at the time) and will drive to the side at lights when other cars are there.
Two weeks after i got the vehicle, i was driving on a highway doing speeds of 45 to 74. The drivers land change assist was not working as a car was right beside me several times i noticed and the light was off. My son mentioned it. Dec 22, 20172) i was driving at dusk on cruise control 74 mph and the car suddenly braked and a warning brake! was on the dash. I was in the fast lane with no objects or car in front.

Without any warning, while driving on a highway at approximately 65 mph, the car suddenly stalled.thankfully, on both occasions, i was able to avoid an accident and pull over to the side of the road.coincidentally, i also own a 2018 mazda cx-5 and in october of 2019, i received a recall notice (3719f, nhtsa #19v-497) for the 2018 car.the description in the recall sounds like the exact issue i have faced with my 2017 mazda yet there is no recall as of now on my 2017.

Loss of power to a complete shutdown while at highway speeds of 60-70mph with fuel tank reading 30 miles to empty.tow was necessary to dealership.replaced fuel pump.2nd occurrence with 60 miles to empty.broke down again while at highway speeds.towed a second time to dealership.replace high/low fuel pump.was instructed not to operate vehicle below 1/4 tank of fuel.major safety issue while at highway speeds with difficulty moving to a safe area. Seems to be a design or fuel pump issue.

Rear bumper marker is not done properly became detached while stationary. My friend has this cx-5 2017 and same thing happened to his car.
Driving on expressway 65mph with just under a quarter tank of gas and enginecut off on its own. My son was able to pull off to the side of the road, but was very dangerous as it was a very busy highway. I feel that the fuel pump is defective at highway speeds. Had vehicle immediately towed to closest dealer. I was charged a diagnostic fee.again, i feel it is a weak design of the fuel pump and dangerous to drive at highway speeds.
While driving southbound on i-75 north of north ft. Meyers, fl the vehicle stuttered slightly and stalled, with just enough time to pull to the right shoulder and park.it would not restart and appeared to be out of fuel, though the gauge indicated approx. 1/4 full.the mazda emergency road service number was called and they dispatched a service vehicle.at the same time the mechanic arrived, a fl road ranger also arrived and put one gallon of gas in the vehicle.we were able to restart the vehicle then and drive to the next exit where we put in just 10 gallons to fill the tank completely.we then proceeded to an auto parts store (at the recommendation of the mechanic) where they performed a digital engine scan and found there were no malfunctions detected.we requested our dealer perform this scan again the next time we went in for service on may 16, 2019.this dealer in columbia, mo (machen mazda) claimed they found no problems.)

My car unexpectedly accelerated once about a month ago.and today 10/18/2018 in parking both times. I avoided hiting a vehicle each time by quickly stomping on my brakes.today i touched another car.luck had in stopped in time with no damage. I was parking rearward the first time and forward today 10/18/2018 in motion.on a city street.
The shift lock lever on the transmission gear selector gets stuck when its cold.
When slowing down, as soon as vehicles hits 25 mph, the transmission jerks. Getting worse, distracts from driving
Drivers seat feels like springs or coils pushing on my tail bone and lumps that hurt thigh part of leg.feels like something could be loose as the lumps go from tail bone, whole bottom like a bar across seat to thighs to just tail bone.this is there all the time from just getting into car and gets worse because it really is pushing on bottom.seems like seating coil or frame could be problem.i did return to dealer but no one there could feel it.it is still under warranty.no pictures as not visible happens only when seating on it.this problem could cause injury to my spine/back.
Yesterday my wife tried to stop our cx5 in our driveway but it kept a slow glide for a few yards thus crashing into our garage door. Shifting into park a 2nd time (1st time didn't work) and pounding the brake pedal finally stopped the vehicle after pushing in the garage door a few feet. Engine remained in low idle (no acceleration) and brake feedback was normal (not mushy) the whole time.this is 2nd occurrence. First occurrence was about 6 months ago as the cx5 glided part way into an intersection. All symptoms listed above were exactly the same.
My vehicle was on a city street behind a car which was at a stop sign. I stepped on the brake pedal, but my cx5 did not slow to a stop, but kept going at a steady speed toward the car ahead. My car suddenly stopped about 5 feet from the car ahead. My foot was on the brake pedal the whole time.this happened twice. Another time i was stopped behind a car making a left turn . With my foot n the brake pedal my vehicle moved about 3 or 4 feet and stopped before hitting the car in front.
According to consumer reports (aug. 2017, page 58, last paragraph) the mazda's new cx-5's forward collision warning with low-speed automatic emergency braking standard should be applauded.these features malfunctions in las vegas during hot weather.mazda knows about the problem and has no fix.we bought a mazda cx-5 on june 9, 2017. While driving on the freeway on july 21, 2017 the car quit working properly and we had three warning messages come up on the dashboard:1.smart city brake support malfunction 2.smart brake system malfunction3. Forward cameramalfunction. Had i not been paying close attention while using the cruise control the car might have rear-ended the car in front at 60 mph.the dealer service staff i talked to on the phone when i got home said that mazda knew about the failures.mazda said these errors are caused by excessive heat and mazda has had many complaints in many locations.there is presently no fix. It seems to work ok when the weather is cooler.these are safety features we purchased and they failed while we were driving in las vegas. The temperature was 104 at the time.not excessive for las vegas nor other parts of the southwest desert. I currently have pictures of two of the warning messages that flashed on the dashboard and can be seen at https://photos.app.goo.gl/0mfdpf5wzvoux2sp2.this seems like a major flaw of the mazda cx-5 if their premier package safety features fails to work when the outside temperature is around 104.the car should not be recommended, or even sold, with these features until mazda gets this fixed. Maybe other mazda models have this flaw.
When stopping my vehicle, my brake pedal tends to 'bleed' downward, to the point where it is below the level of the gas pedal. The result is i sometimes wind up hitting both the accelerator pedal and brake pedals at once.i've never had another car where this can happen.this is dangerous and terrifying when braking in close proximity to another vehicle. I took the vehicle to the dealer for an inspection and adjustment, the resulting slight improvement only lasted about a week, now it's happening again.in the absence of air or other contaminants in the brake line, nor detection of faulty components, i now consider this to be a possible design flaw.

Rotors began showing signs of irregular wearing at 15k miles, causing the vehicle to shake uncontrollably when braking. The dealership indicated that this was normal wear and tear and inclement weather. However, there is a vast number of reports online with identical issues, occurring around 25k miles, which appear to be related to defective brake pads out of the factory.

Hello, this car was leased back in oct 2017 as a brand new car from garden city mazda (ny). Six months ago (july 2019), we brought the car to the service to check the huge vibrations when braking. They found a left rear brake caliper was leaking and failed caused plate (rotor) and pad damage. Car was only done 5731 miles. They have replaced the left rear rotor, pads and caliper. Then resurfaced (rr) rotor and pads.after 6 months today (jan 3rd 2020), we had to take the car to the service because of the vibrations re-occurring when braking as it was very concerning. Car is done 9744 miles to date. And this time it was both front brake plates (rotors) and pad are worn out. This car is almost daily driven (4-5 days a week) and have low mileage due to the low distance (+-10 miles/day) it was driven per day. And we had to change the brakes twice within less than 10k miles. Mazda service and mazda (manufacturer) claims this is due to regular wear and tear and car must be sitting there for a long. Which i do not believe is a valid statement from mazda as an experience car owner and a driver. I had other cars that were sitting on my drive way longer than this car and never had this many brake issues. Brake failures are very dangerous and put everyone at risk. My concern is that the brake components used in 2017 mazda cx5 is not up to us consumer safety standards and not suitable for the weather conditions where the vehicles were sold. Really appreciate if you can investigate this issue further and i hope that will help so many consumers using these vehicles today and future.found more complains on: http://www.carproblemzoo.com/mazda/cx-5/brake-disc-pads-problems.phpthanks very much,[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Drivers side emergency brake drags just enough to prematurely wear inner brake pad down to the metal. 60,000 miles on car. All other pads are at 50% wear.
Rear drums and caliper failures at 20,000 miles

Driving on a highway @ 65 mph (no other vehicles around & not under a bridge) when without warning, the moonroof exploded outward.some glass pieces fell into the vehicle, but the majority exploded outward.
Every time small road gravel hits paint, the paint chips. The car is less than a year old and has at least 20 chips on the hood. The chips are enough to eventually rust the metal. The paint color is red.
Red paint chips extremely easily. Have had this car for less than one year and driven less than 5,000 miles but have lots of chips on the hood, fenders, roof and doors. Given this paint is an extra charge i would not expect this. Drove my previous vehicle for 10 years and didn't have as many paint chips as i do on this after only a year.
The contact owns a 2017 mazda cx-5. The contact stated that while driving at 70 mph, the rear passenger over sender detached from the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a dealer (fairway mazda located at 10101 abercorn extention, savannah, ga 31406 phone number 912-927-1000) who did not determine the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure occurred twice with the front passenger side, as well as the front driver side. The contact took the vehicle to a certified mechanic who was able to mount the passenger and driver side up with temporary wiring until a permanent repair was able to be provided. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they were unable to assist with the repair. The approximate failure mileage was 19,000.
2017 mazda cx-5 with soul red metallic paint, only 19000 miles is exhibiting small chips in the paint.we are noticing chips on the hood, roof, front side panels and doors.normal driving conditions in upstate ny.we had a 2014 cx-5 with the same color and this did not have the same problem.we even paid an extra $595 for this special 'paint' that now looks horrible!
While driving on the highway, at approximately 65 mph, my sunroof completely shattered without being hit or touched by anything. It was completely spontaneous with no apparent cause, which makes me feel like the glass was faulty. The shade to the sunroof was open, so glass fell all over the inside of the car, on the front seats, canter console, and the second row - as well as all over me while driving. When it shattered it made a loud popping noise, completely scaring me while driving. Luckily there weren't any cars close to me to cause any damage to. I did cut my finger open while cleaning glass off of me. I was able to pull off the highway into a parking lot to assess the damage and take photos. Again, i didn't see or hear anything hit my car and there was no car driving in front of me at the time. There was just a loud pop noise when the entire pane shattered.
There is a defect in the red soul crystal metallic paint. The paint on my car is chipping off down to the metal. The marks are all over my car and i have owned this car less than 2 months. If you barely touch it on something the paint chips off and mazda is claiming there is nothing wrong and it is just from road debris. My car has metal exposed all over the car which means it will rust. Mazda said i need to take it to a body shop and take car of it on my own. They changer $595 for this color and then want me to pay even more to have a full body repaint and to get the proper protection for it. I should have to do that for a brand new car. There is only one time i know exactly when/ where it came from. There is a scratch on my passenger door that happened when i was opening my door in a garage. It barely touched something and it is is scratched all the way down to the metal.
Paint on soul red chipping and flaking very easily.
Rattle/ knocking sound as front suspension moves up/down. Noise comes from around the upper front struts. This sound can is be heard clearer at highway speeds.
Takata recall: unintended acceleration- while pulling into a parking spot going under 5 mph, my gas petal accelerated without my foot on it, and i believe that the only thing that stopped me was the bushes i slammed into. It was a very dangerous situation due to a tree in front of me i could of slammed into as well as people could of been on the sidewalk walking. This is a very serious matter and i hope this is looked into fully. I just got the car3 months ago.
The sunroof on my mazda cx-5 just shattered for no reason.nothing hit it.it just shattered all of the sudden while i was driving on a highway.

I bought the 2017 cx-5 brand new about a month ago. Today, i put the car in reverse and expected the rear camera to pop up on my infotainment screen; however, it didn't.so, i turned off the car to try and reset the issue, hoping it was a glitch.i turned off the car and turn it back on again and it still didn't work.i did this consecutively 4 times and it didn't work. It seems like this problem is either a wiring issue or software issue.the car's rear camera is supposed turn on in the infotainment screen when you put the car in reverse.it wasn't until i turned off the car and waited for more than 5 minutes for it toto start working again.i'm very concerned about this because the rear camera is a safety issue and i cannot have it only working sometimes when i put it in reverse.this problem only started today.i'm worried that this inconsistency may continue and given this is a safety concern,i'm hoping nhtsa will launch investigation to see if they is a automakerproblem and issue a recall.the 2017 cx-9 models seemed to be having the same issue (from the mazda forums i've read).the last thing i'll add was the typical introduction process of the infotainment screen seemed to be off when this issue was happening.when i put the car in reverse, the infotainment screen just stayed on the same page.i really hope you guys take this seriously and investigate.
Rear backup camera failed. Vehicle parked in home garage. Vehicle was started and shifted to reverse.camera failed to display on dash screen as it normally does. Manually checked camera located center rear of vehicle.no signs of damage or loose fittings etc.vehicle has not been involved in a crash. Stopped engine, restarted several times.camera software did not reset if there is software. Camera does not come on. Failure of camera creates an unsafe condition when backing because the driver is accustomed to this original safety feature.
The vehicle gave three beeps and the break emergency light indicator came on.the car doesn't even have 11,000 miles on it yet and it is a brand new 2017.luckily i was just leaving the house to go shopping and did not get onto a major thoroughfare yet. The manual indicates that i should not drive anywhere because the brakes can fail at any moment and to immediately contact the dealer, but it's a sunday so i can't do that. The brake pedal sounds like air is coming out of it when i press it down and it has a lot of give.
Mazda infotainment system malfunction, the infotainment system keeps rebooting while drive, stationary, in motion & on a city/highway, using the navigation system becomes dangerous, can't use the infotainment system at all.
I was driving down the highway about 70mph on a sunny day about 71f with my sunshade open, no cars nearby. All of a sudden i heard this loud pop, explosion like, my sunroof had shattered! glass went everywhere on me, passenger seat, backseat. I ducked, fortunately there were no cars around me that could've led to a wreck. I closed my sun shade and drove straight to the nearest dealership. The explosion was so loud itcaused me ear pain that later progressed to massive headache.
About 6 months ago had a sensor replaced that affected all the braking systems. All indicators had come on my dashboard (abs, emergency parkjng brake etc...). That seemed to fix the issue.forward 6 months and same issue all lights on dashboard for baking systems are lit up.except this time it us affecting the acceleration when lights first come on.was at an intersection when the lights start to blink on the dashboard. The intersection light turned green i pressed on the gas and the car chugged along for about 30 seconds. I turned on my hazards and went to pull off to the side when the dashboard light went to steady and i could accelerate. This all happened after the service team at the dealership looked af it and "fixed" what was wrong at a cost of over 200 to me.now they are saying some harness or something in the rear needs to be replaced.
While i was driving down the road at approximaely 40 - 50 mph my 2017 mazda cx5 sunroof exploded.i was not near an overpass nor where there any vehicles around me.after the explosion, i check to make sure it was not my tires, next i checked m windows and pulled on the shoulder of the road.i exited the vehicle and walked around checking to see if anything was broken.when i looked on my roof, i saw the sunroof had exploded.thankfully, i had my sunroof visor closed.since my suv was under 2 years old i immediately called the car dealership and was told to come in.of course when i got there they said their service department was closed and they did not have any loaners signed in.i was advised that windows are not covered under warranties and should call safelite (that is an entirely different story).after i managed to push down the broken glass so it would not fly onto another vehicle as i drove i heard the shattered glass sliding acrossed my roof and down the metal sides.it was not a good experience.the dealer said there were no recalls and that sometimes these things happen and nobody really knows why.
Front windshield just had a 14 inch crack appear on the passenger side.no contact with rocks or anything on that side.basically overnight in the driveway.
Driving on a highway @ 65 mph (no other vehicles around & not under a bridge) when without warning, the moonroof exploded outward.some glass pieces fell into the vehicle, but the majority exploded outward.
Rear backup camera failed. Vehicle was started and shifted to reverse. Camera failed to display on dash screen as it normally does. Manually checked camera located center rear of vehicle. No signs of damage or loose fittings etc. Vehicle has not been involved in a crash. Stopped engine, restarted several times. Camera software did not reset if there is software. Camera does not come on. Failure of camera creates an unsafe condition when backing because the driver is accustomed to this original safety feature.
The entertainment display starts going haywire when the car is stopped. Changes channels on and inputs totally randomly. Very dangerous when i start driving. Cuts off phone calls etc.this happens everyday since i purchased the vehicle about six months ago.
I am experiencing a ghost touch issue on my infotainment system. There has been a recall for maxda 3 but not for maxda cx5. On the website i am seeing several complaints about ghost touch issue where the screen randomly clicks buttons and changes by itself. My warranty ended on oct 2020 so mazda would not help resolve this issue as part of recall or warranty. My mileage is still under 30k miles. Mazda service department reviewed it and accepted that it is a manufacturer issues on the touch screen. I am hoping that if there are enough complaints on mazda cx5, you can help the customers here.
I was driving at 60mph on an open highway, no one in front, back or to the side of me when suddenly i heard an explosion sound and and the sunroof glass began to pour on my cousin, his wife and me. I pulled over to inspect the outside of the car. It was obvious by the way that the glass was blown outward that the glass exploded and was not "caused by a rock" (the dealer insisted it was caused from a pebble)
The contact owns a 2017 mazda cx-5. While driving 75 mph, the vehicle recognition system was on while the preceding vehicle was driving at a slower speed. The contact attempted to switch lanes, but the vehicle would not decelerate on its own. The contact had to depress the brake pedal to prevent a crash. The contact turned the cruise control off and back on, and the vehicle was able to drive normally. The dealer (jim click mazda eastside, 1301 s wilmot rd, tucson, az 85711) was contacted. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 17,000.
The front wipers stopped working. Fuse is ok. No power to wiper motor. Washer still works. Rear wiper works.
I have a 2017 mazda cx5 touring model, with 39k miles.the windshield wipers failed on 10/16/2020. My dealer picked up my car today, and determined that the body control module failed.since my car was out of original warranty, i had to pay the $100 deductible from the extended warranty purchased when the care was new, from the mazda dealer.now, considering the 187,000 mazda 3's recalled for the same failure, i am outraged that i had to pay anything for this repair.if this failure happened while driving in snow or rain, the safety of my family would have been at significant risk. This failure came out of no where, there were no prior issues with the front windshield wipers.i was at a locallowes shopping, and when i went to clean the windshield, the fluid dispensed, but the wipers would not activate.i did change the proper fuse, but that had no positive effect.also, i noted that 187,000 mazda 3 models were recalled for the same module failure.
My sunroof just exploded while i was driving down the road.i have a dash cam which captured absolutely nothing impacting the glass.it just burst'.
Driving on a 25 mph residential street windshield went pop and a spider web of cracks appeared in the lower passenger side of the windshield and spread to the middle of the windshield. No sign of anything that hit it. Outside temp is 90 degrees and running air conditioner.. No previous sign of chip or ding from rocks.. Car only has 7500 miles on it and is garaged every day.. Lots of comments on mazda forum about bad /thin windshields on cx 5s..
Rear drums and caliper failures at 20,000 miles
While driving down the highway in my 2017 cx5, the sunroof exploded sending glass throughout the car. It was a sunny day, and no apparent debris flew up from the road. Extremely scary incident.
Windshield wiper water pump failure
Front windshield just had a 14 inch crack appear on the passenger side.no contact with rocks or anything on that side.basically overnight in the driveway.
