Vehicle airbag ecu inoperable and flashes fault code, but source of issue can not be found. Mechanic speculates it is either occupant seat sensor issue or computer software issue.
Airbag light flashing on dash.
"takata recall" ?in march 2018, i was traveling westbound in a mazda cx-5 on an expressway in long island, new york.it was approximately 9;45 pm and the expressway was fairly empty, roads were completely clear, no rain, no snow. Out of nowhere, a speeding driver slammed into the back of my mazda at a very high rate of speed.(she admitted to following me too closely and not being able to stop in time, so my car was hit pretty hard.on police report, she was cited for unsafe speed among other things.i was also informed the a police officer that she did not have a driver's license).my car was then thrust into the divider (where the left side approximate corner of the front of the car hit the median) in the middle of the expressway and spun quite a few times. None of the airbags ever deployed. I hit my head at least two times and i starting having neck and back pains among other injuries. Though the car had extensive extensive damages (13k was the last time i heard and the car is still not working fully properly) my insurance progressive forced me to take the car back while the other insurance company doesn't understand why the car was not totaled. I was given back the car a little over two whole months after the accident and i was told the airbags will not deploy if god forbid something else happens (the airbag light is blinking all the time), the horn does not work, and nothing on the steering wheel controls work anymore.i was told i have to bring this to mazda's dealership directly for diagnostics.i have been told by many people that they believe my airbags malfunctioned including maximum auto body in bohemia who fixed the car and i agree considering the hard hits the car took and my injuries.i am not sure what my rights are in this situation but i feel this car is not safe.i now have to wait until june 4th to get it to the mazda dealership.
On 07/28/2017, air bag light on instrument cluster began to flash while drivingalso the passenger side was occupied. Lasted until vehicle was turned off.mazdadealerfound code b00a0 for passenger occupant detection system.they reset the code and tested air bag system, they stated that all systems pass test.on 10/16/2017, air bag light on instrument cluster began to flash and the warning beeping start up while drivingalso the passenger side was not occupied. I considered this is a serious safety issue and need to be reported. I recorded videos.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx5. The contact stated that while driving about 15 mph and making a turn, another vehicle crashed into the passenger's side of the contact's vehicle. No air bag deployed. The front passenger sustained a bruised shoulder and was taken to the hospital. A police report was filed. The vehicle was damaged and was towed to a tow yard, and was taken over by the insurance company for an evaluation. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 44,129.
I was involved in the classic tee bone situation. I hit the car on the passenger side of the vehicle and the front of my car was damaged. I was on a city street going approximately 35 mph and slammed on the brakes for approximately one car length before the collision happened. Their air bags inflated mine did not.
2 incidents of sudden acceleration while making a right hand turn into parking spaces first on 5/18/17 and second on 12/15/17. The air bags deployed the first time but not the second time. The insurance company is ordering an engineer investigate since it occurred on 2 separate occasions
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the seat belt warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was informed that there was short in the wiring harness and the module needed to be replaced. Additionally, while the mechanic was working on vehicle, the side curtain air bags inadvertently deployed. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000. Invalid vin.
First occurred on 9/29/2017 and more often after 2/3/18 battery drains, no start have had the vehicle battery jumped 5-6 times, replaced battery same occurrences, have taken battery to be charged twice. Further inspection a week later on battery and a draw test 1, came back good. Couple of weeks battery had drained again. No start noticeable signs of drain. Airbag light on and off, have had it serviced previously. Heat and a/c not projecting like normal. Stains on windshield. Design error there is no key entry on trunk when car malfunctions. Dashboard and/or display screen will occasionally stay on when car turns off. Driver window rattles. Command switches for display screen replaced still sticking. Seat belt has scared stomach.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact stated that the passenger's side air bag housing was visible from underneath the passenger side dashboard. The vehicle was taken roger beasley mazda south (4506 s ih 35 frontage rd, austin, tx 78745) where they stated that was a common issue; however, her air bag failure was more visible and prominent than others they had seen. The contact was then informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle and that the repair would be out of pocket. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was given the same information as the dealer. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 43,589.
The contact owned a 2016 mazda cx-5. While driving approximately 60 mph, the driver crashed into a yield sign. During the crash, the yield sign came through the front windshield. The front end of the vehicle sustained severe damage; however, the air bag did not immediately deploy. The contact indicated that the air bag deployed moments after the crash occurred. The driver sustained a left arm laceration that required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. A police report was filed. The cause of the failure was not determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 44,000.
I was involved in an accident in december 2016.i hit the side of another vechile and my passenger front by the tire was damaged.the passenger side airbag came out which it should not have due to the minimal damage to of the car. I will attach the estimate to this complaint. Since this was around the holidays i knew my car would be delayed. This was by far the worst expierence i have dealt with for a month and half and today i realized mazda's negligenceplayed a huge role with expense and stress of my car. I have never received notice about a recall on the side passenger air bag. I think madza should be responible for paying the damages of my airbag coming out and also the labor, time and rental expenses for the delay of my car. I can not believe i'm finding out 4 months later that their was a recall. If i knew this i would of had mazda fix my car to begin with instead of going through so much stress.the delay of my car being fixed was due to the fact the auto shop could not fix my passenger airbag light and had to have the adjuster come back out to look at it. They also needed to get the technicianto come out to help the program and they just couldn't figure it out. Once they figured it out my air/heat wasn't coming on, none of the interior lights would work. This caused me to go back to the auto body shop for another day without my car with a rental. I blamed geico and the auto body shop but mazda is responible. I spent so much money on this process. I'm very dissappointed.
Active recall for day time running lights is not able to be fixed due to mazda claiming they do not have enough parts to rectify the issue.the consumer stated the air bag was failing. The manufacturer was notified, but did not offer any assistance. The consumer has the vehicle in germany, but was informed it could only be repaired in the united states.
I was pulling into a parking space at natural grocers. When the car was going 2-3 mph into the space getting ready i thought to stop, the engine revved up like a jet engine. The car then jumped a concrete side walk, hit the brick building, and broke a gas line. The car then came to rest back in the parking spot. The air bag deployed, my first reaction was "what the hell just happened". A man walking out of a store heard the hiss of the gas line and then called 911. He came to the car and told me to move away because the gas line could blow up. He noticed that my glasses were backwards on the back of my neck and asked if i was hurt. Shortly a firetruck arrived, two police cars, and a store manager. The firemen shut off the gas line. The policeman interviewed me and observed the setting. After some time the policeman said "this was not your fault" and "i am not issuing a citation". Something clearly went wrong with the car. He encouraged me to take pictures of both the sidewalk and the car for my records. I had the car towed to the dealership from whom i had leased the car.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the vehicle crashed into a parked vehicle however, the air bags failed to deploy. Additionally the shoulder harness also failed to prevent forward motion in the vehicle. The contact sustained a chest injury due her chest striking the steering wheel. Medical attention was not yet sought. A cardiologist was contacted and an appointment was made.a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair facility. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was contacted or notified of the crash. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 15,000.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact stated that the battery failed and caused several sensors to fail, including the tire and parking brake sensors, as well as the computer settings. The contact was not aware of the failures and continued to drive the vehicle. The brake sensor failure caused the rear brake pads to smoke. The contact took the vehicle to sussman mazda (1606 easton road, willow grove, pa 19090, (215) 887-1601) where the dealer replaced all the failed sensors. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 59,000.
I would like to express that this is now the second time i have had to take my car in for service and repairs due to the soy-based components they use in the electrical harness that have been continuously eaten thru by squirrels.my car's horn and headlights no longer work again and this is now the second time. I ask that these elements are recalled immediately for safety reasons. Wire harnesses are a critical component to vehicle safety. Wires that can degrade during the normal service life of a vehicle can be deadly. Think about a wire harness with insulation that's been eaten that controls the abs, fuel injection or an airflow sensor, and you hit a bump in the road and it shorts. Now you lose power or braking. Are we willing to have someone's vehicle fail and the people seriously hurt or dead because of a fundamental design flaw?i can email pictures from my phone to provide evidence of the damage.again these wires should never be soy based.i don't feel like dying anytime soon because a rodent chewed through a critical component.

While driving the vehicle, the infotainment system abruptly turned off.shortly thereafter and immediately after activating the turn signal the car stalled.the vehicle seemed to have completely turned off and coasted to a stop.the car then restarted and the check engine light was on.
Entertainment system can never be turned off and remains on at all times.the devices like the cd player if a cd is inserted always is in operation and may cause unnecessary ware of the device and results in unsafe distractions which the vehicle is in operation.mazda only has offered one solution, to turn the volume down or place the system in mute;however, this is reset when a vehicle restart is done and the entertainment system is again initiated.turning the volume off or muting of the system is distractive to the driver which can be a very serious safety concern since the system is always on.possible issues with non-required systems that are always in operation which can never be turned off by the operator is a consider a safety concern.this issue should be considered for a recall status since there is no solution from the manufacturer.

Vehicle's infotainment/navigation system froze up.when in operation the screen just blinks on and off.upon bringing vehicle into dealership we were told that the item is backordered as there are so many problems with the systems they have no time frame to get this problem fixed.upon research on line it also appears many others are sharing their same challenges with systems that do not work.
Liftgate wouldn't unlock sometimes and the car was stationary.
2016 mazda cx-5.consumer writes in regards to power steering failure, brake system failure and other electrical system failures.the consumer stated she experienced catastrophic electrical failure twice within two months and the dealer had no idea how to fix it.the failure caused issues with the power steering, and brakes. Also, the warning lights, including the air bag light flashed on the dashboard.updated 10/03/16.
I had the car started and turned the headlights on and the car stopped. Did several times shutting off and turning off. All of the lights on the panel flickers. After several times every thing back to normal.after about 2 months it happened again.i tried it several times again and ieven decided to try and drive and turn the lights on while driving and the car stopped.went home stopped at my mailbox to get the mail.turned car off, back on, lights a flashing, engine light came on and stayed on,drove into my driveway.turned car off and back on a few more times.finally was working ok. And it has been a couple of weeks since.afraid to be driving the car at night though.

Seat heater not working properly from date of purchase 9/25/15. Part arrived from japan installed 11/9/15. 3 hrs later console panel stopped working while driving 30 mph, could not load radio stations, blue tooth, maintenance screen - just error message. Next morning it was working but seat heater still not warm so back to garage. At garage electrical tested ok. Garage states seats as warm as it is supposed to be. Bought 2 mazdas at same time and other car cx-3 heater is very warm. And heats quickly. Now we have to wait for the electrical to go again then take it back in. Got in car and found cap to the shifting lever was sitting on seat with obvious pry marks , garage says it wasn't taken off. They said they would have to order entire shift lever to replace it.
Passenger's side led daytime running light failure.i had the headlamp assembly replaced under warranty for the same issue previously.vehicle has 32xxx miles now and the same led drl light failed again.,i have yet to take it to the dealer (noticed it today)
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact took the vehicle to ourisman mazda of rockville (801 rockville pike, rockville, md 20852, 301-424-7800) due to an electrical failure that affected the instrument panel, the vehicle's sensors, and the home screen. The dealer informed the contact that a certain console that controlled the electrical system needed to be updated and the part would be covered under warranty. The contact was also informed that the parts were not available and the contact would be informed when the parts were available. The vehicle had been in the dealer's possession for almost two months. The contact had not received a loaner vehicle. The manufacturer was notified and was apologetic to the contact for the inconvenience. The contact was informed that they were investigating the matter. The contact filed an internal complaint with the manufacturer. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.
Passanger side day time running headlights began flickering for about a month and then simply went out. This car is brand new within the past year and a half and is absolutely ridiculous. The dealership had to replace the full headlamp unit as it is led and mazda knowingly installed these faulty headlamps. I have seen hundreds of other documented cases of this issue on the internet.
Drl is not working properly. Driver side completely run out, passenger side - dimmed and flickering permanently. Smart city brake support system is disabled and not working as well as adaptive high beam headlights.
Vehicle airbag ecu inoperable and flashes fault code, but source of issue can not be found. Mechanic speculates it is either occupant seat sensor issue or computer software issue.
Electric parking break (epb) warning light start blinking after the release of the brake. I lived in a warm tropical weather. In my understanding this function works on cold weather.problem persists intermittently. If vehicle turned off, problem "disappears" but appears again when the break button was released. Weeks later the car started to activate the smart city break alarm when moving in my neighborhood and in a city street with no reason, suddenly, and bringing a safety issue. Also started to make strange noises related to the brake, similar when the brakes or pads get wet and making the car forced to be moved when pushing the accelerator pedal, making the vehicle difficult to move, no matter break is released and turning it slow and vague. An electronic diagnostic report was made and shows the following codes : code c2005 (electric park brake motor gear unit (rh) circuit malfunction code c112a (incorrect electric parking brake motor gear unit position) code c2006 (electric parking brake motor gear unit (lh) circuit malfunction.
Started car in driveway 2/10/19, 4 pm 'engine sounded like timing was obviously abnormal. Random automatic braking noted when car in motion, within one block of leaving driveway. Immediate inability to accelerate beyond 10-12 mph experienced.error messages then observed on car dashboard warning sectors: check engine; traction control: tire pressure monitoring; smart city brake support malfunction-forward scbs disabled. Car unsafe to drive to dealer 12 miles away. Car towed to dealer site 2/11/19 monday am.car has 28,330 miles per odometer; service maintenance up to date, as manufacturer recommended. Dealer assessment of cause on 2/11/19 reported as 'rats nesting in engine and eating through soy insultation on wiring on engine harness.'repair costs of > $1,500 estimated. It seems that insulating engine component with nutrients attractive to nesting, ubiquitous vermin is a serious safety concern for car owners and users. Any nhtsa guidance on this critical issue?
Led daytime running light on passenger-side headlight flickers and is very dim. On a few occasions, the driver of vehicle in front stated that it looked as if my headlight was out as well. Vehicle is only 3-years old. Mileage should not affect electiral led components. Drl's or headlights are required during adverse weather conditions or when operating the windshield wipers.
The automatic locking does not always work.i agree with complaints 1090985 and 10885776 in that it seems to be fine 90% of the time, which lulls you into a false sense of security.now, i make sure that he lights flash as i walk away.i had turned off the chirp because it disturbs the peace, but may turn it back on, since walking away and looking back also has its risks.i could be walking away too quickly sometimes or something else in my pocket may be shielding the key fob, but if others are also experiencing this problem, maybe it is not a user issue.perhaps the owner's manual should mention these possibilities, if they indeed are the cause of the problem.an unlocked car is a serious security risk.
Infotainment system reboots numerous times after engine is started and continues while the vehicle is in gear.during reboot cycle, radio, navigation, and other functions of the infotainment system are unavailable.system may reboot anywhere between 1 and 10 times before the system stabilizes.this has been an on-going, daily occurrence, can occur multiple times in a day, and began 2 months after vehicle delivery.
The car has about 6300 miles on it and we bought it new.while driving on the highway, early january 2016, the car "infotainment" system shut off and restarted itself.this includes navigation, bluetooth (music, phone etc) and the overall car monitoring system.it happened about 4 times during a 45 minute commute.it has happened a few times previously but only once per trip, perhaps due to shorter trips.it does not have any discernible pattern. It is concerning if it is an electrical problem, as the whole car is basically electronic, including steering! (no steering fluid for example, all electric) it is going to the dealer to be checked out this week.i can see the navigation shutting down in the middle of a trip also being a problem, especially if it's the main form of guidance.
Ebrake would not disengage on the mazda cx-5 2016 gt with city brake and electronic e-brake at 36,100 miles during various parking locations scenarios.vehicle would start normally at push of start button but the e-brake light would stay on in the flashing mode. Turn engine off/restarting would resolve the problem temporarily just to return to the same issue at random parking locations. Dealership suggested a replacement battery main 12 volt battery for $185+tax+installation. Battery replacement suggested based on a claim of low voltage measured at the e-brake switch located on the center console. There was no other solutions provided by the dealership for further testing/isolation of issue priir making a payment, to include confirmation that in fact the battery is the culprit. Utilizing an alternate/test battery could be a temporary testing solution. Payments were made as requested and the issue of the flashing e-brake light flashing/e-brake not disengaging is less apparent with 2 incidents 1 month after battery replacement. Incidents observed while in covered/uncovered parking scenarios, outside temperature oscillate from 75 to 92 f. Vehicle rear brakes were replaced under 5000 miles by dealership due to noises and premature wear. Vehicle also has a mazda remote start system installed by dealership with a history of electrical failure of the a/c compressor. Documentation available for review.
Daytime running light on driver's side was replaced in dec 2017 when the vehicle had 14,000 miles. Now the daytime running light on the passenger's is burnt out. The dealer wants $1,200 to replace it. I thought led is supposed to last "forever". Also, the auto bright doesn't work. Dealer wants to $100 to troubleshoot.
Body: about one month after i purchased the vehicle, the paint became brittle.there is a large rock chip, scratches on the hood, and chips on the door.electrical: the seat heater on the driver's side turns on intermittently without the power being turned on.transmission: the rmss continue to increase when i take my foot off of the gas at high speeds (interstate).i do not have the cruise control on.they rev about 10,000 and then come back down.
The transmission needed to be replaced after 1,525 miles.today, after 1,600 miles the driver's window automatic up/down function stopped working.
Parked my car. Open up drivers door , radio and dash lights came on. Standing on driveway now push button to turn off radio and dash. Everything came back on. Did it three times and on the third time vehicle started to roll backwards. Had to curly on the floor bard and door wide open. Vehicle gaining speed, engine off, look at gear shift saying it's in park still. I had to jump out of vehicle because i thought i was going to die. Neighbor came to help me out and called 911 who sent an ambulance and police. Paramedics attended to my needs and rushed me to the hospital. Police ask the neighbors if someone was inside the vehicle and they said no. Police report shows vehicle still in park. Vehicle hit a tree and high center on a pge electrical box. Now vehicle is at a dealership who told my father under the table they were able to duplicate concerns but will not note it on the repair order.they looked at sensors and know codes appeared. Once my father mention he worked at a dealership they mention that i must have had the vehicle in reverse. If i stand outside of the vehicle and for a good minute to two minutes and it showed in park the whole time, there is something electrical going wrong with the vehicle. If you google radio is staying on when vehicle is shut off regarding these make and model there are several cases of this happening. People say they have to slam the vehicle into park to get the radio to work. Some people had a brake sensor replace which finally fixed the concern....updated 03/29/17
The driver's seat power adjust has been squealing extremely loudly each time i adjust it, and based on what i've read, this is a known problem and could be a sign of the driveshaft/motor failing.
While on a recent highway road trip, my 2016 mazda cx-5's driver side daytime running led lights, which come equipped with the technology package, stopped illuminating properly.the daytime running lampled lights in question will flicker or not illuminate at all.i found this to be a safety issue as daytime running lights are equipped on vehicles to enhance visibility and safety. A flickering daytime running lamp can cause serious safety concerns resulting in distracted driving related collisions. Mazda advertised these specific headlamps as being a long lasting and providing enhanced safety as they adapt to changing roadway conditions.upon conducting independent research into the drl (daytime running lamp), it was learned that many other owners of the 2016 mazda cx-5, with the technology package / led headlamps, have been experiencing this issue almost as soon as the basic factory warranty expires. It was then learned the average cost to get this situation remedied would result inhaving to pay almost $1500 - $2000 to get the whole headlamp unit replaced.research on the nhtsa website revealed a faulty gasket at the base of the headlamp unit which caused moisture/gas to develop on the interior of the headlamp lens, this is also present on this vehicle. I feel this could potentially be causing the headlamp drl to malfunction due to a moisture build up, or the unit is all together defective for a certain grouping of cx-5's with this headlamp assembly i feel a recall investigation should be conducted to determine the source of the malfunction. I feel this is a significant issue as it was learned there was a recent national back order for these headlamps, i find that suspicious if they were to be in proper working order.
Radio start and few seconds later it shuts down completely
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact stated that while attempting to stop at 20 mph, the brake pedal was depressed and failed to respond.the contact stated that while the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle accelerated continuously. The vehicle was able to be stopped after the brake pedal was depressed to the floorboard. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the battery failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 1,797.
The component that failed was the cmu unit in my screen. I was unable to use bluetooth and hands free driving which put my safety at risk and when driving at night the screen would light up, reboot, shut down, light up which was very distracting. I took it to the dealership which they said this is happening in cars and they will not cover it. They fixed it at a cost of $864.34. I contacted mazda and explained how distracting this is to drive and they explained there is nothing they could do but give me a $250.00 credit.
Mazda connect infotainment system reboots continuously through multiple screens and cannot be turned off or disabled.the continuous reflash through multiple high intensity lit screens creates a visual distraction for night driving.
The led daytime running lights on both sides of my 2016 mazda cx-5 have burned out/stopped lighting after 39k miles and out of the warranty period. The repair requires the replacement of the entire headlight assembly with an estimated cost of $1200 per assembly. ($2400 total). Because this is a safety issue, and one apparently known to mazda, this should be a recall.
2016 mazda cx-5.consumer writes in regards to ignition/ "room fuse" failure.the consumer stated while driving, the gps, radio, bluetooth and other interior functions failed. No warning lights otherwise appeared. After putting gas in the vehicle. The vehicle would not start. No warning lights appeared to explain the ignition failure.the consumer subsequently learned the cause of the failure was a blown "room fuse". He was informed a sensor in the ignition system was tied to the "room fuse" which was the reason the key fob was not being detected, despite the green light indications. The dealer stated too many devices were connected to the power outlet at the same time as the bluetooth and navigation were being used.
The gps installed in this auto frequently doesn't work.often when it boots up, but also often it loses location while driving.you can detect this ifit puts you into an absurd place, like the middle of the ocean.but often it puts you on a road where you aren't. This is definitely a safety problem.dealer cannot fix.
My problem is with the keyless start system. The problem is that if i forget to push the start button to shut down the vehicle and open the door and leave the automobile and shut the door with the key in my possession the auto will keep running until it runs out of fuel.wouldn't it make more sense for the vehicle to shut down after 3 minutes if the key is not present.as you know people have died from carbon monoxide poisoning by parking in their garage and forgetting to shut down the vehicleand the vehicle keeps running and filling their homes with carbon monoxide. This happened to a older couple in sarasota florida with a new car that they just purchased and were not familiar with the starting system. Just wanted to know just how many people have to die before something is done about this problem. I asked my mazda dealer and they told me that the vehicle will run until out of fuel and basically said that i was stupid for being concerned.
Infotainment system continuously rebooting / cmu goes bad. Cannot reboot with removing nav card, etc. This disables bluetooth, navigation, affects the camera. There are numerous reports online that this is an issue across the board.
I recently purchased a 2016 mazda cx-5 from a non-mazda dealer, however after paying $21,000 for the vehicle i realized the daytime running light was not working!my biggest surprise was when i went back to the dealer to have them repair it and found out the entire headlamp would need replacing to the tune of $1,100 dollars!today i called mazda and they told me there is nothing they can do about this because the car is out of warranty!it is especially distressing in that so many other complaints are all over the internet about the same problem when the cars are still under 30,000 miles!i hope someone can do something, mazda should help customers in this way, since this is obviously a defective part!
While driving on a slope with bit of curve on a highway when i applied a mild brake to reduce the speed, the car abruptly moved straight left and goes off road. The brake and steeringdidn't respond immediately for few secondsand the car keep going down off road on a very rough terrain. Luckily it stopped few meters before a sharp fall.
My complaint is identical to complaint # 10913740.i special ordered my cx-5 & picked it up feb 2017.does not shift properly, revs up to 6000 before engaging, can't accelerate when i need to (like merging on freeway or changing lanes).please see complaint # 10913740 because he describes it better than i, a non "car person" can.i've put my my gas foot to the floor trying to gain some speed so i wouldn't get rear ended and it takes, literally, about 10 seconds to respond at all. The dealer claims it is shifting as designed & says they can't recreate the problem.car was there @3600 miles & they told me the tech couldn't find anything wrong with the car but did i want a drive with him. I did one, & he tried to tell me that revving to 5000 when on a small incline was normal.this is a lie.i brought the car back again-it was in for 7 days. 2nd time manufacturer involved, & supposedly its engineers would work on it. But all they did is run diagnostics (doesn't anybody actually look at the actual car anymore - computers do malfunction) and what they came up with is that i was engaging the gas and the brake at the same time, causing the car not to shift.first of all, my tiny foot couldn't be on both pedals if i tried; second, my left foot is a clutch foot.i am so used to using it on a clutch only that it dangles where a clutch would be if i hadn't bought this stupid automatic 2016 cx-5.so now mazda is saying that their engineers & dealer technicians are infallible and they will do nothing for me.meanwhile, i am stuck with this pos i bought for $27,000 cash which is not only dangerous but extremely un-fun to drive due to the jerking, revving, etc., which are very unnerving, and with 5000 miles on car, i should want to drive it.instead i am driving my nearly 12 year old vw so that i can get places safely and without the jarring problem of the mazda.
The contact owns a 2016 mazdacx-5. While driving 25 mph, the emergency indicator illuminated and beeped. The contact noticed an abnormal burning odor and observed smoke from the rear passenger side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a local dealer (mazda of olympia, 2201 carriage st sw, olympia, wa 98502) where it was diagnosed that the caliper needed to be replaced; however, the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The vin was unknown. The failure mileage was 5,000.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. While the vehicle was at a complete stop, the engine revved. The contact's vehicle independently surged forward and crashed into the preceding vehicle. The contact's vehicle continued to surge and crashed into a pole. The driver and passenger frontal air bags deployed. The contact sustained injures to the chest and arms, which required medical attention. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an independent body garage. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 28,000.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. While driving 65 mph, there was a popping noise and black smoke coming from the engine compartment. All the warning indicators illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road and heard another popping noise. The contact then noticed flames under the hood. The contact extinguished the fire himself. The vehicle was towed to capitol mazda (located at 980 capitol expressway auto mall, san jose, ca 95136, (408) 763-4018) where it was diagnosed that the engine block failed and the engine rod was fractured. The dealer stated that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided case number: 1-1844061638. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
High pressure fuel pump failure. Vehicle mileage 30,020.check engine light illuminated, vehicle would not start.replacement cost 920.60.
Dealer identified drive belt tensioner as leaking and in need of replacement on a mazda cx-5 with less than 30k miles on it. Many owners have reported identical failures at or around 30k. An insufficient part that is failing so frequently, this early on with low mileage is a significant safety issue.
After pulling into a parking and entering parking space my wife attempted to stop car, with her foot on the brake the vehiclejerked forward jumping a parking bumper at an accelerated rate of speed.after jumping the bumper our cx-5 headed toward two parked cars, she was able to turn the wheel to the right where she was then headed toward a crosswalk, between two parking lots, with a hand rail.the vehicle finally came to a stop after becoming wedged under the hand rail and bumping a parked car.damage was to the r fender, front bumper and hood a total of $5,100 worth of damage.vehicle was towed to dealer.mazda would no look into what or why it happened, our insurance company sent out a member of theirforensic group to investigate the problem.nothing was found to be wrong at the time that he checked and could not duplicate as he could not drive the vehicle.this was our second mazda and our last, moving on.
When reversing out of driveway, going from reverse to drive, the car aggressively goes forward. A jerking forward motion that causes the tires make a brief skid sound. This has happened multiple times.
Original belt tensioner was failing at 50k miles. An oem mazda belt tensioner was installed and is failing again within 1 year at 67k miles. If this fails the belt powering the water pump will fail causing a catastrophic engine failure due to overheating. Mazda has yet to issue a recall with their defective parts. If you hear any squeaking of the belts from your engine and notice any residue leaking from the tensioner get it replaced asap or your car could become a hazard.
In a parking space, foot on brake, moving gearshift to park, engine revved and car lunged forward with car in park and my foot on the brake. It jumped the concrete bumper, ran over handicap parking sign and hit car in adjacent parking space hard enough to move it back into the driving lane of parking lot. At that point the car stopped. We pulled it back into parking space to help move other hit car out of traffic
The problem is that this vehicle allows you to turn it off being still in "d" (without even shifting it to "p"). It doesn't warn you at all if you forget to shift to "p". It has happened to me that a couple of times i have turned off the vehicle, got off of it and vehicle remains in "d", without giving you any beep of warning. The other day, i stopped/parked my vehicle in a parking slot and turned it off and i forgot to shifted to "p". It passed a couple of minutes, while i was doing my makeup and hair that the car started moving. When i realized what was happening, vehicle had already moved about 3 yards (almost out of the parking slot) luckily i was still inside the car and could brake. Should i have left the car immediately after turning it off, it has caused an accident hitting people/cars bypassing.
I went to the dealership and they informed me that the hydraulic belt tensioner was leaking. They quoted me $400 for repair and stated this is a wear item yet the manual and user guide provided by mazda do not state that this is required to be replaced only inspected. My car has less then 46,000 miles and this part was nearly at the point of failure. If this part fails and the belt gets too loose or snaps, your car will shut down.essentially, if that belt breaks, your alternator will stop charging the battery, the dash will light up like a christmas tree, and the car will sputter to a complete stop.not to mention the fact that the belt also turns the water pump. So while the car could shut down in order to avoid overheating.mazda has stated they will not cover this as it's out of warranty for a what should be considered a defective part. If you hear knocking sounds from your engine get your vehicle inspected asap!
On 8/4/2016 in miami fl at 3:45 pm. I was waiting at a stop my foot on the breaks when the engine started self accelerating. It stopped once i put my car on neutral
During a routine inspection by the dealer following an oil change the mechanic discovered that the drive belt tensioner had begun to leak and if not replaced (at $400) will cause the engine to fail and will strand motorist.current mileage 53, 824.with little effort i discovered that this is a well-known problem with this vehicle with many failing at around the 30k mile mark.looks like a design flaw that mazda usa is passing onto the consumer.
The left front headlight on the vehicle is flickering and sometimes goes out. This headlight is known to have issues and based on the part numbers from mazda, it has been redesigned multiple times in the past 2 years. With this many redesign attempts i am just assuming they are having problems with the headlight and should issue a recall. This vehicle is just out of warranty as it has 37,500 miles and the warranty is only to 36,000 miles. The dealership wants us to pay for the headlight which is $1,500 dollars in parts alone. This seems outrageous for a vehicle that is only 2 years old. Searching online this is a very common issue with mazda and having a headlight go out driving down the road is a major safety concern let alone a quality of workmanship concern. This issue needs to be addressed with a recall.
I had a recall for my daytime running headlight over a year ago, and i took in to the dealership to have it fixed. Now, over a year later they still don't have the parts in. It's been very frustrating, especially through the winter months.
2016 mazda cx5 headlight problem the left one went out and was covered by warranty. Now the right one has gone out and they want $1200 to fix it. The car only has 48000 miles on it. This should be covered because headlights should not need replacing this soon.
Nearly a year after the initial recall notice, mazda has not been able to supply the parts to fix recall #20v-063. They send postcards and emails monthly, indicating that i have not yet brought the vehicle in for service. This is untrue, i have tried multiple times to have the defect corrected only to be told parts are not available. Are they complying with their obligations under this recall? i can't help but think they are not being truthful about their failure to provide the required parts.
Recall notice received march 2020. May 5 service call parts not available, emailed 3 more times and still no parts available or contact of any sort without my initiating. Called in september and was told i would get a letter within next month and that parts were still not available.still no contact from mazda as of october 15.somehow they keep manufacturing cars but can't get around to manufacturing recall parts.
The following warning and warning lights began around 34,980 miles on my 2016.5 mazda cx-5 grand touring 2.5l skyactiv-g while driving down the interstate: master warning light, check engine light, power steering, keyless system malfunction, smart city brake support malfunction, forward scbs disabled, check engine light, tcs/dsc indicator light, tcs off indicator light, blind spot monitoring (bsm) off indication, brake system warning light, abs warning light, electric brake warning light, air bag/front seat belt pretensioner system warning light, tire pressure monitoring system warning light, led headlight warning light, and the speedometer does not work. The vehicle takes several attempts to turn off. Using the left blinker will cause the vehicles power to restart and yes, while driving! this started november 14, 2020 and when i notified mazda, they did not seem concerned and a couple days later the light were no longer there. This occurred again december 15, 2020 and march 5, 2021 when i decided mazda needs to run a diagnosis because clearly something is not right. My dealership insisted it was my battery (basically the only warning light not on) and my rear brake pads. Then when this did not correct the issue, they said corrosion needed to be cleaned which was not shown in the vehicle inspection video. Also, my car was just serviced at my mazda dealership july 2020 with 33,706 miles. September 2020 my vehicle was parked and i returned to a large crack on the driver side. Around 25,000 the tired needed to be replaced, now at 36,666 milestire thread depth is in the yellow' my vehicle alignment has zero issues and my mazda dealership is the only one who rotates the tires (or suppose to).
Passenger side led daytime running lights no longer function.mazda is aware of the issue, and since the warranty is no longer valid, they refuse to address the problem.replacement of the assembly is approximately $1,000.00. This issue has been reported frequently in online forums and has multiple complaints logged on this site. Mazda should be required to recall these headlights as it is clearly a manufacturing defect that imposes a safety risk to the driver and others sharing the road.
Many 2016 mazda cx-5s are experiencing failures of one or both daytime running lights. These are sealed beam lights, so it costs almost $1000 to replace and are not covered by original or extended warranty. Running lights are a safety feature - shouldn't this be a recall item? my passenger side went out at just over 37,000 miles - just after the 3-year / 36,000 mile warranty, but i purchased an extended warranty. Neither cover the problem.
The passenger side led daytime running light became dim and flickering at about 36600 mileage. At the time of the malfunction the vehicle was being driven during the day on a city street. The enclosed picture shows the vehicle in an unlighted garage.this creates a safety issue. This same problem has been reported many times on online forums. The vehicle manual states that failure of any bulb or light in the headlight cluster necessitates replacement of the whole unit. Since the vehicle is out of warranty replacement is estimated to be over $1100 for just one side.
I have 35,000ish miles on my vehicle, and have discovered that my right led daytime running light has already burnt out, and my left one is flickering, about to burn out. I have read on many forums that this is an extremely pervasive problem, and mazda wants upwards of $1,200 per light to replace (cannot just change out lamps). This seems worthy of a recall with the number of reports on simliar 2016's i've seen alone.
The daylight running light on passenger side is flickering non-stop in just 39k miles (out of warranty). Learned about this yesterday while driving on a major business route and at the traffic light, adjacent car driver pointed out (nice guy, thank you). Came home and upon looking at it, i couldn't believe how other drivers might have been annoyed when looking thru their rear view mirror. It is absolutely a safety hazard and mazda should fix this issue asap no cost to car owners. Searching online, hundreds if not thousands of drivers have reported this issue.
Both daytime running lights on my grand touring trim have failed after a little more than 3 years of ownership and only 35000 miles.dealership has told us they have seen a bunch of these failures already and mazda won't cover them.they did state that mazda even has a new revision of the light that fixes all the issues, but the part and labour cost about 1000 dollars per light.there are tons of posts on this topic on the internet, including 25 pages on mazda247 forum.this is a safety issue and mazda should be stepping up!
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v068000 (exterior lighting) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. Fitzgerald mazda frederick (114 baughmans ln, frederick, md 21702, (301) 696-9200) was contacted and it was confirmed that parts were not yet available. Recently, the passenger's side headlight failed to operate as needed. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 24,250. Parts distribution disconnect.
Daytime running lights do not function while vehicle is in motion or stationary. Problem is reproduced during every trip or by turning on the parking lights when the vehicle is parked. When purchased, i was told i would never have to worry about the new led lights and that they wouldn't burn out like old-style lamps. They have stopped functioning less than 3 months after my 3-year/36,000-mile warranty expired. I have driven less than 22,500 miles and the dealership is quoting me $1,500 to repair what should be <$100 (conservatively) for leds. Looking online, this appears to be a common complaint from owners of this vehicle, and apparently mazda has revised the replacement part numerous times but people are still experiencing problems and costs to consumers are increasing for this safety feature.
I noticed recently in traffic that only one of my running lights was reflecting on the back of the car in front of me. I did some research and found a lot of stories of this light going out prematurely, and the repair is costly since the entire headlight unit needs to be replaced. My warrantly expired less than two weeks ago, but i am going to try to get mazda to cover it. I am submitting this complaint in the hopes that mazda will start covering this repair for cars even out of warranty, as these leds should not fail at 3 years old.
Passenger side front daytime running light failed at 40k miles, just outside of warranty period. Took to dealership and was offered no assistance and required $1200 to fix/replace the entire headlight assembly. Unacceptable to pay for the technology package for led daytime running lights only for them to die at just over 3 years. Wrote a letter to mazda north america corporate office 4 months ago but no response.
Mazda issued a recall in march 2020 for the daytime running lights on this car, the parts required to remedy this situation are backordered, and have been backordered since march.as of today, mazda is stating that the parts will not be available for 4-5 months!daytime running lights are required to pass the annual virginiastate auto inspection.my inspection is due this month, and mazda has effectively rendered my vehicle illegal to operate in the state of virginia!
2016 mazda cx-5 suv passenger side daytime running light started flickering and became dim at only around 12k miles. My warranty has already expired due to the fact that i bought it in 2015 time frame. The fact that many other cx-5 owners also have encountered the same problem, at very low mileages, suggest that there is definitely a product defect which is also a safety related problem, given more time down the line.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. While the contact's wife was driving towards him, he noticed the day time running lamps were flashing. The contact stated that the front passenger side bulb burned out followed by the front driver's side bulb two weeks later. The vehicle was taken to champion mazda (located at 765 carlisle st, hanover, pa 17331, (717) 637-6655) where it was diagnosed that both day time running lamp bulbs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 30,000.*as
Led daytime running lights do not work causing my vehicle not to be as visible as it should be on the road during daylight hours . All the other lights are also led . I am worried about future performance . Just purchased vehicle 2/3/2020 , do not know when lights first malfunctioned .
Mazda vehicle daytime running light safety feature has failed within 30,000 miles. Dealers do not want to replace under extended warranty. Daytime running lights have failed on numerous vehicles of this model.
Passenger side front led daytime running light flickers and off most of the time.issue was noticed last year but because vehicle is out of warranty did not return to dealership.recently found on the internet other similar mazda vehicles experiencing same problem.
Led daytime running lights burn out and mazda charges $1,200 each time for an entire headlight lens replacement.this is the second time - first time was covered under warranty.
Led daytime running lights systematically fail.driver's side failed at just under 36,000 miles.passenger side failed at 53,000 miles.the failure requires complete replacement of headlight unit.cost is $1100-1200 or more.flickering or failing lights are a distraction for oncoming traffic.lack of drl may violate some state laws.
The drl on the passenger side flicked then failed around 12k mile in april 2018. Not long after that, the drl on the driver side flicked then failed around 16k mile sometime in 2019. The vehicle mileage right now is only about 20k miles !! ( we are retirees and have 2 vehicles)
Vehicle airbag ecu inoperable and flashes fault code, but source of issue can not be found. Mechanic speculates it is either occupant seat sensor issue or computer software issue.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v063000 (exterior lighting) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact experienced a failure with the daytime running light which failed to operate correctly. Napleton mazda located 6060 s. La grange road, countryside, il 60525 (708) 354-2700 was contacted and informed that parts to do the recall repair were not yet available. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Daytime led running lights flickering and going off.my vehicle only has 22,000 milesthis is a safety issue and now i fear my whole headlight will go out.this happens when parked and driving.a safety recall needs to be issued for this serious and deadly problem.noticed this a month ago but could have been going on for awhilei am begging you please address this issue because at 22,000 miles this should not happen
Passenger side daytime running light has burned out. No way to get to it as the light is sealed. The dealer will not replace as the vehicle is no longer under warranty. Led lights are supposed to last tens of thousand of hours, this has to be a problem with the actual electronics. In my research this seems to be a pretty common problem, and cx-5 owners should not have to pay hundreds (in some cases thousands) of dollars to fix a faulty/ flawed light.
Driver side led drl is about 50% brightness. The passenger side drl has already failed and was replaced by mazda (part) and i paid for labor. Should be a recall considering the safety concern, will not pass inspection, and entire headlight assembly must be replaced at roughly $1,000 each plus labor. Manufacturer's defective design. I will have to again call mazda corp. To ask for assistance. Approximate miles listed below
The daytime running light on the driver's side headlight assembly failed after 3 years and 60,000 miles. It is an led, non-replaceable light that is part of the entire headlight assembly. Out of warranty and dealers want in excess of $1,000 to replace the headlight assembly.the led light should last more than 3 years. This is a safety issue and should be a recall by mazda.
I and numerous cx 5 owners are reporting daytime led running light failue at around 35,000 miles or 3 years.this problem is dificult for the driver to detect because the lights only turn on when the vehile starts to move.the problem can only be fixed by replacing the whole led assembly ($1,200) per headlight.therefore, many owners will simply drive there cars in an unsafe condition because they are unaware of the problem or cannot afford the repair.
2016 cx-5.last year, the driver side daytime running led headlight started flickering for a few months, then went completely dark. Car was still under warranty, so it was replaced for free.now the passenger side daytime running led headlight is doing the same thing.car is no longer under warranty and mazda says it will cost $1200.i went online and found hundreds of identical complaints.there should be a recall.
The led daytime running lights flicker and go off without warning. This has happened to both sides of my headlights at 50k and 55k miles. The fix for this is to replace the entire headlight assembly at of cost of $1,400 -$2,000 per light! this poses a safety risk if the vehicle is not properly illuminated. A recall is desperately needed for this before someone is hurt, or worse killed, by these faulty parts.
The led daytime running light in both the right and left headlight assembly have failed. On one side the entire led strip has failed and on the other side the led strip is flashing. This lends itself to my car being less visible: as well as' being a distraction to other drivers seeing the flashing in the rear view mirror. These problems were not the result of any incident, the led strips just failed from normal use in a much shorter span than appropriate.
Daytime running lights no longer work.frequent problem when researching web
The "auto" for headlights / daytime running lights were turned off while driving in raining days or in dimmed lighting condition in the evening, on local road and highway.
27.500 miles i noticed my passenger day running light was dimmer then the drivers after a couple of days it progresses to rapid flickering. Online there are 100's of consistent reviews of the exact problem happening to the original factory headlamp assembly - k070-51-031c (led headlight right side)- k070-51-041c (led headlight left side), but after a 1500$ per headlampassembly replacement with the newer version unit(r) head lamp right with ledka0g-51-031j - unit(l) head lamp left with ledka0g-51-041j the problem seems to be resolved. Another thing to note is when i have to pay for a replacement the new version will be less bright and slightly different color which would be almost as annoying distracting to other drivers as the flickering day running light which in my opinion should be recalled to avoid any safety hazards regarding these specific faulty batch of lights. Please google search cx-5 flickering headlamp and see the 100's if not 1000's of reviews claiming the same. I really was hoping putting the money into what i thought was a solid vehicle with led lighting all the way around would help me stay more safe although all it has done is put others, and myself at risk as well as costing a large amount of money. And with the release of a new version of the same light only reinforces the claims of the faulty batch of lights. Which should last 55,000 hours or a lifetime of the vehicle. Thanks for the time and consideration for my safety issues.
Daytime running lights failed at the 3-year mark.original headlights (halogen bulbs) are still working fine.no way a halogen should outlast an led. This is an obvious design flaw or an attempt at designed obsolescence gone wrong. Either way, this is a safety issue. I travel alone and it wasn't till someone else pointed out my lights were out that i even noticed.i contacted mazda ( case [xxx]) and was told that because it was outside the warranty on milage there was nothing they could do.looking at several boards i know i'm not the only one with this issue.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
Right side (passenger side) drl led light strip flickering and/or not illuminating with main headlights either off or on.during daytime driving, with headlights off, led drl not illuminating affects vehicle conspicuousity.
Led daytime running lights on headlight now flicker and fail inspection even though no damage or impacts occurred to the headlight. Repair is in excess of $1200.https://www.carcomplaints.com/mazda/cx-5/2016/lights/exterior_lighting.shtmlhttp://www.carproblemzoo.com/mazda/cx-5/headlights-problems.php
2016 mazda cx5 grand touring w/led lightingright daylight running light (dlr) has failed.my 2016cx-5 has 25,400 miles and is 3 months out of warranty. These headlight units are sealed, if any light in the unit fails, i am told by mazda thre is no repair except for a complete headlight unit. If a blub fails the entire headlight unit must be replaced at a $1600 cost.only a mazda dealer can replace the headlight unit.good luck if there is no mazda dealer nearby.this is unacceptable to me because this is common failure in many other cx-5's.this is definitely a safety item, driving at night and a entire headlight unit fails, will other units fail?i think so, because this is definitely a design problem with all mazda headlight units. I would hope that maxda would do the right thing and fix this problem under a recall procedure before someone gets killed.the nhtsa needs to force mazda to issue a recall on this dangerous defect
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5.the contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the daytime running lights were inoperable. The local dealer was not contacted or notified of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 12,000.
Daytime driving led strip is burned out, dealer wants $2400.00 for 2 new led daytime running lamps.
Within in 3 years of owning a brand new mazda cx-5, the running lights on one of the headlights stopped working.mazda says the entire headlight assembly must be replaced to fix the issue at a cost of $1,730.there are numerous complaints about this exact problem and clearly mazda should be recalling their headlight assembly.
My 2016 cx-5 gt is now out of warranty based on model year, although it only has 21000 miles on it.i have the same problem as almost every other owner of this make and model, which is that the led daytime running lights on one side (so far) have stopped working.led's do not burn out in just a few years, so the problem is in the wiring inside the headlight assembly.it is an obvious manufacturing defect that mazda will not acknowledge.repair cost can be $1200 to $1500 per headlight to the owner.
Daytime running light on passenger side headlight is flickering - dealership said the entire headlight assembly needs to be replaced at over $1000 per side.the vehicle is only 3 1/2 years old and only has 46000 on it but of course out of warranty.there have been too many defective 2016 mazda cx-5's with the same issue - how can these dealers sell defective vehicles or not be made to fix the cheap defective parts they use.daytime running lights are used for safety.....something should be done to resolve this issue.
Drivers side running light not working. Dealer replaced after 37 months 38921 milage. One year out of warranty.car was stationary when i noticed problem.
Daytime running lights.drivers side light going out.passenger side running light is out.i called dealership and price was going to be close to $1200 each.i was unaware the passenger side light was out.i did notice last fall a 'blinking' in the led on driver's side.will there be a recall on this malfunction?
At 76,000 the driver's daytime running light failed to illuminate when the car is running. This is a safety hazard. Before it went completely out i noticed it flickered.
Vehicle has less than 33,000 miles and the driver-side daytime running light has gone out.this is a safety issue and should not happen with led lights this early in the vehicle's life.
Drivers side led daytime running light is dim and difficult to see.
Drivers side led headlight not working after 3 years and ~25k miles. I see so many complaints with the headlights on online forums and no recall has been made by mazda over this issue. This is obviously a manufacturing defect and needs to be fixed via a recall and not charge customers for an expensive full headlight console replacement. What is the use of getting a more expensive tech package for these lights at the time of purchase when they don't even work for 3 years.
Led drl halo started dim flickering at 39,000 miles on passenger side.burnt out completely. A short time later.a very expensive repair that should be covered with a factory recall.this is my second cx-5 and my eighth overall mazda.my plan was to purchase my 3rd cx-5 in jan 2020.after this i will probably look at at a vehicle that has a 4 yr/50,000 mile bumper to bumper warranty
Purchased new, passenger-side headlight led lights flickered and then went out after ~18 months. Replaced under warranty. Six to eight months later, driver-side headlight led lights have the same problem. Replaced under warranty.
The led halo light in the front headlamps went completely out on one side and flickers on the other side.the repair is $1000 per side and isn't covered by warranty.this is a safety issue and mazda knows it .multiple people are having the same exact issue around the same time. There is a manufacturer's defect and there needs to be a safety recall.no one can or will pay that kind of money for a light bulb.the problem is prolific and needs to be addressed.
The daytime running lights on the passenger side failed.the process to repair the lights is exorbitantly expensive and i believe will dissuade consumers from getting them repaired due to the high cost. Dissuading customers from getting this repaired is a serious safety issue.to repair the light bulbs costs more than $1000.the repair requires the entire headlight to be replaced, and also requires removing and reinstalling the front bumper assembly.this is just to replace a light!this is a very poor design and will impact owner safety in my opinion.
Led daytime running lights flicker dimly and then don't work. Can't replace them unless you replace the entire lighting assembly.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v063000 (exterior lighting) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called walser mazda burnsville service (14720 buck hill rd, burnsville, mn 55306; (952) 892-9850) where it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The passenger daytime running led light in the headlight assembly either does not work or will flicker during operation of the vehicle. In order for vehicles to pass inspection, all exterior lights must work, so this is a safety issue that mazda needs to further investigate.
Right side running light went bad just after 36k miles, very expensive replacement, have seen many complaints about this issue, 1200.00 to replace a running light???
Mazda cx-5, highlight assemblies need full replacement, two months out of 3 year warranty. Not considered a safety concern....????? $3,000 to replace both.
Daytime running light flicker on and off..... Not all the time.i have the part
Daytime running light (led halo) on rider's side flickering. Vehicle has under 50k miles. Has aged out of warranty. Entire unit must be replaced at a cost exceeding $1200. A flickering light is a safety concern and reduces visibility. Can also be seen as a distraction to other cars on the road.
Many complaints on google of flickering daytime running lights on headlights that are a hazard and distraction to oncoming drivers, may cause seizures for some. Many people with the same car have only had this car 3 years and mazda will not respond to this or acknowledge the need for this recall, to have this fixed is a minimum of $1200. Lighting is necessary and if it is faulty, it becomes dangerou.s this needs to be corrected and mazda needs to take respinsibility. Too many vehicle owners are having this problem.
Daytime running lights on the drivers side is very dim and needs replacing.when replacement cost approach $1500, i get very upset. This could happen again when not under warranty. Should be a recall as many others have this problem.
Driver side led daytime running lights no longer working due to a mazda known issue with the lightvisibility has been reduced which increases driving risk. This issue has been reported frequently in online forums and has multiple complaints logged on this site. Mazda should be required to recall these headlights as it imposes a risk to all associated drivers, and costs thousands of dollars for the consumer to repair an obvious manufacturer error.
Daylight running light early failure.advised only solution is complete headlight assembly estimated at over $1000 cost. Safety issue & i see its a common problem. Mazda as the mfg should call on its supplier to make it right and its drivers safer on the road. I always like to run these as a safety precaution as they are intended.
Led daytime running lamps failed,.lost left driver side drl headlight.also noticing the same situation on other vehicles(shown goo and failure in pics)
Daytime running lights flickering.dealership advised needs replaced at $1100 plus for one.i thought leds lasted for 10 years. Vehicles are being driven in unsafe conditions because of cost or are unaware of the problem.this appears to be a common problem.mazda should have to do the right thing and stand behind this issue.
The driver's headlight halo for the daylight running lights was having issues at 30,939. I was able to get it replaced under warranty and it would have cost $1,000. Now the passenger side is having issues at 33,183 miles and now that it is out of warranty the current quote is $1,200. A three year old car under 36,000 miles should not be having these issues, nor should they be almost $2,500 in repairs. This is ridiculous.i noticed it while driving and seeing the less bright reflection coming off the car in front of me at a stop light for the passenger side. I spoke with shavon on the help line and she was extremely professional and courteous answering my questions (*****)
Passenger side day time running led light stopped working just after 3 yr warranty expired.cost to replace over $1000.there is a lot of reports of similar issues with the 2016 model.
Passenger side daytime running light went out and does not function after 3 years and only 46k miles. All lights on a vehicle need to be properly functioning to be deemed safe for driving.
Daytime running light issue - seems like a large number of complaints about this issue, light flickers before it finally blows, drl only come on when vehicle is in "drive", so only when in motion, doesn't matter what type of road, or direction of travel.the flickering is a hazard for other drivers, and is majorly annoying to owner, the fix is nearly $1000 to repair.this is the second one to go, the first (on driver's side) blew while under warranty, less than 36k miles, second one has now gone, at 71k, well out of warranty.
Daylight running lights failing after only 50000 miles
Failure of led drl (daytime running light) on passenger (right) side.non replaceable bulb. Requires removal of front bumper cover and replacement of complete headlight module for excess of $1000.mazda was previously replacing under a silent warranty.
Led running lights flickering only 29000 miles, past the 36 month warranty. Requires replacement of the entire headlight assembly at a cost of$1000+.many complaints online about this problem.mazda should extend warranty to 100,000. Not safe and to costly to repair
Both front led headlight assemblies seem to be totally unreliable after ~35k to 40k miles and customers are unlikely to quickly replace something that costs $1200 each time.mazda agreed to fix one but when the second one went bad around 40k (our kid noticed while we were pulling in into the garage at night) they said it's outside warranty and they don't see any issues.there seem to be nearly 20 complaints about this in the last few months just on this one site.the suv won't pass state inspection without this issue fixed, and at $1200 a pop, drivers are likely to push the limits and drive the suv without fixing the issue. *ln
Passenger running light -halo- started flickering/ dimming and now is completely burnt out with33000 miles on vehicle. Safety hazard and repeated issue known by mazda should be addressed by mazda. $1000+ to replace a light is ridiculous when typically lights can be replacedvia bulb replacement, this led is a closed assembly and requires dealership replacement. Every 2-3 years owners should pay $3000 to replace headlights? really!? not ok. This is a faulty part/design flaw that creates safety hazard when using running lights that are not fully operational, esp in the pacnw with rain/poor visibility.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact stated that the driver's side daytime running lamp burned out. The contact took the vehicle to tyrone square mazda (3300 tyrone blvd n, st. Petersburg, fl 33710, (727) 344-3344) where he paid out of pocket to have the light repaired. Soon after, the passenger side daytime running lamp also burned out. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and agreed to assist the contact with financing the repairs. The contact took the vehicle back to the original dealer to have the passenger side light repaired. The contact stated that the failure recurred with the driver's side daytime running lamp. The manufacturer was notified again about the failure and referred the contact to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired for the most recent failure. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000.
Right headlamp daytime running lights is no longer working properly. Being the daytime running that has been added for safety this should be a manufactures issue not the consumer for a vehicle with 43k miles and 3 years old. A quick internet search find hundreds of the same issue.
Daytime led running lights failed on passenger's side.this is a frequent problem with this year, make and model according to a mazda owner's group and often occurs with either driver's or passenger's side led daytime running lights.https://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123857122-daytime-running-lights-dim-flickering&p=6537092&posted=1#post6537092
Noticed passenger side led headlight flickering while stopped behind another car at traffic light. Inspected the light once i get home and found the day time running portion of the head light assembly is the problem. It now flickers at all times since this comes one during the day automatically. Service department from dealer the car was purchased said this is not covered by mazda and it would be out pocket repair ($1,200).
The driver side led running light burned out around 45,000 miles.the repair involves an entirely new headlight assembly; my local mazda dealership quoted me $934 for this part and the work required.the running light is a safety feature of all newer-make cars, and it's unacceptable that mazda is taking no responsibility with what appears to be a defective part.i've seen dozens of complaints online for the same year/make of car with defective running lights.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v063000 (exterior lighting) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while his daughter was turning into the driveway, he noticed that the headlights were not illuminated. The vehicle was taken to ramsey auto center (9625 hickman rd, urbandale, ia 50322) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the daytime running light failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure however, no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Led daytime running lights (drls) failing while driving. Recall don for similar vehicles (4320a recall). This could impact the ability for pedestrians or nearby vehicles to see the suv, particularly in low-light conditions when the low- or high-beam headlights aren't in use.
At 30,000 miles, but out of warranty the driver's day time running light started flickering and at times was completely out. I was told by the dealer that the entire light module needed to be replaced and the part was$1000.00. Daytime running light flickering occurs while driving & when car is parked with motor running.
Driver side led daytime running lights began to dim directly after warranty expired, reducing daytime visibility and therefore increasing driving risk. This issue has been reported frequently in online forums, and has multiple complaints logged on this site. Mazda should be required to recall these headlights, as it imposes a risk to all associated drivers, and costs thousands of dollars for the consumer to repair an obvious manufacturer error.
Led running daytime driving lights have failed at only 3 years!
I received a safety recall notice in march 2020 regarding led daytime running lights.i contacted the mazda dealership where i purchased my vehicle and took my vehicle in to be serviced july 13, 2020.at this time, i was told by mazda that the part necessary for the repair was on backorder, and would be received in approximately three weeks.i called to follow up on this in late august.i was told by the mazda service department that the part was on backorder with no eta on its availability.i have not experienced any problem while driving, but i am filing this complaint because my recall notice stated that i should report if "mazda does not repair the defect within a reasonable amount of time."i live in the state of hawaii and vehicles are required to have an annual safety inspection completed.due to the recall and defect of my headlights, my vehicle is unable to pass the safety inspection.my safety inspection was due to be completed in june 2020.my vehicle is now out of compliance with the state.i will be unable to pass the safety inspection until mazda replaces and repairs the recalled item.
Driver side headlight day time led light flickers and it has half of the intensity compared with the other headlight if driven or stationary. This condition started to become noticeable two months ago and it is getting worse and close to the point that the dtl led is not visible anymore and the entire headlight unit must be replaced. Mazda knows about the condition and claims that this is not a safety issue and refuses to replace it.
Driver side led daytime running headlights flickering, and intermittently turning off at 40,400 miles. Pulled over by state police and issued a warning violation for non-functioning headlights. Vehicle will not pass state safety inspection. Appears to be a very common safety issue among 2016 mazda cx-5 owners.
Daytime running head light is going dim. The leds are failing after only a little over 3 years.
Headlight clear lens is melting from inside. Clear lens that covers headlight has coating inside and outside. It is the inside coating that is flowing down. Looks like it was over-applied during manufacturing process. But in time, it's appearance is becoming more and more visible. Both left and right. Making the car looking like 10 year old. Appearance issue was present in parking lot of dealer. Dealer knows about this issue and assured me to replace it. But avoiding my calls for six months. Mazda customer service tells me to bring the vehicle to service center. So i took the car to service, and mazda technician guy took a look at it and pictured. No one is answering my calls nor giving me any update on headlight replacement.
2016 mazda cx5 grand touring w/led lightingour left led headlight unit daylight running light has failed. We soon learned this a common failure with ours and many other cx5's due to water intrusion. There are units that have failed and units that will fail.further we learned there is no repair except for a complete headlight unit replacement. The units are "sealed." there is no access even to replace a simple headlight bulb. Should a light fail far from a dealer, at night, one is stuck. We believe this to be a safety defect and that a recall should be issued by the nhtsa to require the manufacturer (mazda) to replace both defective sealed led headlight units. Our mazda dealer refuses to deal with this issue on a warranty basis. Based on our research this failure generally occurs around the 36,000 mile mark. If a headlight cannot be replaced, at night, far from a dealer, then a substantial safety issue exists. The daylight running light is a mandated safety item and should always be reliable and functioning . Please note the many other mazda cx5 owners who have also complained. We first noticed this failure by observing our reflection in a business window. The led daytime lights only come on when the vehicle first starts rolling precluding performing a precheck.
Passenger side daylight running lights died.
Shortly after going over 36,000 miles (standard warranty expiration) the driver's side daytime running light (drl) led's dimmed and then flicker continuously. This should be a simple led bulb, transformer, or ballast replacement, but the mazda dealership quoted $1,275 dollars to replace the entire headlight assembly. Apparently the drl led's are not individually serviceable. After doing some quick research, there are multiple mazda cx-5 owner forums reporting this issue between 24,000 and 36,000 miles affecting both driver and passenger side drl led's. This is a safety issue in the fact that there are countries and states that require drl use. Typically, if a headlight bulb goes out it is a maintenance cost of somewhere around $25 to $50 dollars. An led bulb would typically cost more, but to potentially spend $10,000 dollars (8 headlight assemblies at $1,250 each) over the lifetime of the vehicle (typically 120,000 miles) seems a little excessive. I am hoping for a future service bulletin from mazda to cover this design defect (similar to the one regarding the headlight assembly gas clouding issue).
Front passenger side day time running lights suddenly failed at just 27,500 miles. In order to replace the leds, the entire light unit needs to be changed out, and can only be done at the dealership at a cost of over $1200. This is a very quick failure of a long lasting led light and at a high cost to the owner. This should fall under a recall.
Driver side daytime running lights stopped working after 3.5 years.this is a common problem for the mazda cx-5 2016 model year.mazda knows about the issue but is not issuing a recall.the cost to repair the issues is over $1,000.00 just to replace the worn out led's.
Daytime running light (led halo) on rider's side no longer works.vehicle has 30098 miles, but has aged out of warranty.entire unit must be replaced at a costexceeding $1200.will not pass state safety inspection as is.
Problem with the passenger side led daytime running light. I noticed that the daytime running light was not illuminated fully (about 25% illuminated) while driving behind another vehicle. I examined the light in my garage later on and noticed that the light was also flickering in a random pattern. After discovering this issue, i drove the vehicle to my dealership where i was quoted $1097.02 plus taxes. $887.02 for a new headlight assembly and $210 in labor. I was not able to get coverage under warranty because i was 10k over the 36k limit. With taxes tossed in, i'm looking at over $1200 for a headlight, which is completely ridiculous! especially for a vehicle that is only 3 years old and that i have owned for less than a year.a quick search online on the nhtsa website revealed numerous similar complaints. Mazda is aware of the issue and has been replacing these headlight assemblies with a revised version that addresses the issue. A recall has not been initiated even though there are many complaints of this issue on forums and the nhtsa website.
My 2016 mazda cx5 grand touring has led daytime running lights and have become dim on driver side after only 36,620 miles, i was told by the dealer service representative that they are just outside the 3 year/36k mile warranty and therefore not covered. He also told me that whole headlight unit will have to be replaced and will cost $1000-1100 (estimate). My understanding is that many of these led headlights are defective and numerous owners are having similar issues (https://www.carcomplaints.com/mazda/cx-5/2016/lights/exterior_lighting.shtml)
After approximately 31,000 miles, my driver side daytime running lights ceased to work.this is a safety hazard, since i use my daytime running lights to alert oncoming traffic of my presence.
Driver's side daytime running lamp is extremely dim.upon closer inspection the drl is either off, or flickering.very distinguishable from the passenger side drl which is full bright.vehicle is at approximately 44,700 miles on odometer.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx5. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v063000 (exterior lighting) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called santa maria mazda (1001 e battles rd, santa maria, ca 93454, (805) 925-0077) where it was confirmed that the part was not available from the manufacturer however, she was provided the option to purchase on her own to have the part replaced. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. Parts distribution disconnect.
Driver's side headlight began showing signs of malfunctioning (dimness & flickering) after approximately 40,000 miles. Vehicle showed no warning or malfunctioning lights on the dashboard as other vehicles do when lights fail. This fault would never be noticed by an average driver (my coworker driving in front of me called me to notify me). Although the headlight was replaced under the cpo warranty, the cost to replace this headlight is $1,000. Properly functioning headlights are essential to the safety of the driver and other drivers as well. The headlights on this vehicle have numerous reported cases and no recall has been issued forcing owners to pay thousands out of pocket for a known issue (as i will once my warranty expires).
My right headlight was flicker and was covered under warranty.now my left headlight is out and will cost over $1100 to replace because the warranty ended.vehicle only as 23,000 miles.there must be a problem with these headlights from all the complaints filed.
The front drivers side daytime running lights on my 2016 cx-5 have failed after two years and 38900 miles.you cannot replace the "bulb" for a few dollars.you must replace the entire light unit that includes low beam, high beam, turn signal, and daytime running lights (drl).this unit costs minimum of $400.00 and up to $1200.00 when installed by dealer.this is an exorbitant price to pay for a simple led bulb that should last longer than two years in the first place.
Daytime running lights stopped working
Led daytime running lights. 1 is sporadic/ flickering, and the other one is now out/ inoperable, soon the flickering one will go also. Making the vehicle harder to see by other drivers. Mazda has a recall # 4320a but my vin# is excluded? i have the same parts/ model #s as the recall! an extension of the recall, out to include my vin# would be appropriate.
Led daytime running lights begin to flicker and then fail within just 2-3 years of regular use. The drl lights cannot be easily replaced with a light bulb/replacement led due to the led chips being soldered to the circuit board within the headlight assembly. Full headlight assembly must be replaced. When drl are off it can potentially create safety hazards for drivers of vehicle and other vehicles around.
Day running light on passenger side does not work
There are two problems with the turn signal. First and foremost, on vehicles that are equipped with led headlights and led daytime running lights, it is very hard to distinguish the turn indicator since it is an incandescent bulb, it is not as bright as the led daytime running lights that when they are illuminated and looking straight at the vehicle, it is hard to tell if the turn signal is activated. This could be fixed by extinguishing the daytime running light temporarily while the turn signal on the side which the indicator is activated. In addition, the front marker bulb is hard to distinguish from the side, it should be a separate bulb on the assembly. The rear marker light is much more pronounced and visible not only because it is an led bulb, but because it is a separate fixture from the turn signal amber combination lamp.
I have tried since feb 2020 to get my #20v-063 headlight replacement per the recall issued and the fitgerald mazda in annapolis md told me since then that they couldn't get the parts from mazda.i tried to book an appointment again to have this fixed on 11/11/20 - an appointment they accepted only to be told once i got there after the inspection that they do not have the parts and cannot get the parts from mazda. I was one of the initial customers to report this issue and received a new headlight assembly for the driver's side replacement and not six months later, the other side went out. I understand covid limitations but mazda needs to provide the parts to comply with this recall correct?
Running light on the driver side headlight is extremely dim and sometimes does not even come on.
One daytime running light is now flickering. It is not serviceable and the entire headlight capsule must be replaced at about $1300 per side. I am sure the other one will fail soon also! car has 61000 miles and is 4 years old. As drl`s are oem, it must be fixed to pass nys inspection. Of course it is also a proven safety feature!
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v063000 (exterior lighting) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called wayne mazda (1244 nj-23, wayne, nj 07470; (888) 449-1108) where it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Mazda is not fixing a known issue from a recall issued a year ago for daytime running lights.feb 06,2020manufacturer recall number4320anhtsa recall number20v-063one of my drls has been burned out for over a year. Mazda says they don't have parts available to perform the recall. It has been over a year. Furthermore, the dealer will not promise to prioritize fixing issues on cars where the lights already broken, when the parts become available, which means owners with working lights may get their recall repair before i do, which is certainly a safety issue.what can i do??
Headlight assembly has a singular entity containing the low and high beams, and the daytime running led lights. They are not user replaceable. The drl's fail, requiring a $1200 part and $300 replacement costs for the entire unit. Given these costs, the led lights (which should last 10 years and are failing prematurely between 12 and 24 months) are likely to go unrepaired and negatively impact safety.
The daytime running light on my 2016 mazda cx-5 grand touring started flickering on the driver's side a few weeks ago. I've had other drivers honk or flash their lights at me during the day (oncoming traffic) most certainly due to the annoyance of the flickering led. This seems to pose a safety hazard to others and myself. The only solution mazda currently has is to replace the whole headlight assembly at an approximate cost of $1,200. I cannot afford this fix especially with the passenger side led light likely to fail at any time bringing the cost to $2,400. I believe this is a safety concern to other drivers especially those that have an adverse reaction to the strobe-effect nature of the flickering light that can trigger seizures. It is also a safety concern to me if i'm less visible to oncoming traffic. I have viewed 100's of complaints for this very same problem and it seems only appropriate for mazda to take ownership of this poorly designed/manufactured component.
Drl is not working properly. Driver side completely run out, passenger side - dimmed and flickering permanently. Smart city brake support system is disabled and not working as well as adaptive high beam headlights.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, three of the driver's side daytime running light became inoperable. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact called sheehy hagerstown (10310 auto pl, hagerstown, md 21740, (301) 739-7700) and was informed that the failure was not covered under nhtsa campaign number: 20v063000 (exterior lighting). The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 70,000.
Led lights in the passenger side headlight assembly have failed. Headlight (low/high beams) and directional signal continue to operate normally. Car was stationary when a friend noticed the problem. Online research indicated that this has been reported as a problem in numerous cases. Dealer acknowledged other owners reporting same problem and added my information on their records.
Passenger side daylight led headlight quite working. This is a fairly common issue for this vehicle. This is a safety concern and needs to be investigated.mazda is ignoring this issue. However they will gladly take your $1200 and replace the light. This issue smells like a mazda scam to me. Please investigate.
Mazda cx-5 grand touring led daytime running lights are dim on driver side after only 48,000 miles. Outside of 36k mile warranty. My understanding is that many of these led headlights are defective and numerous owners are having similar issues after 40k miles.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 20v063000 (exterior lighting) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact called the local dealer several times and it was confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
The front headlights have been replaced twice on each side and i am waiting on both headlight assembly kits.they tell me it is a 1000.00 plus cost to me.after speaking with national mazda (not napleton) i was told they had to make a change. Shouod they not have a recall for this, while waiting for my left headlight my right went out while driving home last night.i now have no headlights for a 30k car. Help
Driver side day time running light led not working.
Passenger side led module drl light strip is dim/flickering.happened in years 3-4 shortly after warranty expired.dealer offered zero assistance.led lights should last much longer.a quicker internet search shows problem is widespread on my model year.in fact, i have seen many vehicles with faulty light in m daily driving.
My husband noticed differences between the headlight brightness as i drove behind him. After parking, he inspected the lights and noticed flickering in the passenger side led daytime running light. The car has 29,650 miles. The repair involves an entirely new headlight assembly and my local mazda dealership quoted me $1,300 to fix this repair. The daytime running light is a safety feature, and it's unacceptable that mazda is taking no responsibility with what appears to be a known defective part. Two different dealerships have said they are familiar with the problem since they have done repairs. I've seen dozens of complaints online for the same year/make of car with defective running lights. I called up the mazda customer experience and did not receive a good experience since they said they needed a diagnostic when you can clearly see the light flickers visually. The diagnostic costs $150. I don't see the point in paying $150 to diagnosis something you can visually see there is a problem which is already a known issue among cx-5 owners.
Led day time running lights failed on driver's side of vehicle.known issue with the cx-5 causing a safety concern since this is not a serviceable part of the vehicle.
Led daytime running lights failing at 42000 miles.
Problem with both led running lights.one is completely out and the other string is partially lit.my dealership told me that this problem is common (consistent with online complaint posts) but the warranty will only cover it if the miles are under 36,000 miles...my car's mileage is over that.
The daytime running light stopped working at 25,000 miles and cost over $1,000 to repair since it is out of warranty. Upon further review many others have had the same problem and i am worried this will happen to my other headlight therefor costing me another $1,000.
The daytime running lights have stopped working on both head lights. The cost for fixing the head lights is $1300.00 a piece. The dealer won't warranty this repair and said it wasn't a safety issue. The head lights are the ones that self level and turn when the car turns.
Driver side led daylight running light is flickering at 25% brightness, passenger side led daylight running light is not functioning.car has only 56,000 miles.led lights should not fail this early. Numerous complaints on internet.i will not replace due to extremely high cost of over $1000 per headlight.visibility of these vehicles has been severely compromised due to faulty design and manufacture of something that should last for the life of the vehicle.
My 2 year old "top of the line" mazda cx-5 awd grand touring had a failure of the daytime running lights (passenger side). When i asked my mazda dealership about it they said "yeah, we've see lots of those problems on your year/model, you definitely need to get it fixed since you will fail your safety check". I asked since this was a "common" safety problem for my model/year why is there no recall from mazda. Mazda dealership staff shrugged and handed me an estimate for $1500.00 to fix this safety related problem on my 2 year old vehicle. They said file a complaint with nhtsa, but mazda is not paying for this.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx5. The contact stated that the both headlights failed to function. The failure had occurred for the second time. The vehicle was taken to a dealer (cochran volkswagen of north hills 11750 us-19, wexford, pa 15090 (412) 245-4620) where it was informed that the vehicle was no longer covered under a warranty and that the contact would be responsible for the diagnosis fees. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was provided a case number. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was scheduled for diagnostic testing on 08/20/2018. The failure mileage was 29,950.
2016 mazda cx-5. Consumer writes in regards to daytime running lights failure safety recall. The consumer stated the vehicle was repaired under the recall but, the failure recurred. The consumer referenced recall 4320a nhtsa campaign number 20v-063. The speedometer needs to be repaired.
2016 mazda cx-5daytime running light may failthe consumer stated the lights failed. They were replaced but, the failure recurred. The consumer referenced safety recall 4320a nhtsa 20v-063.
Ebrake engages on its own when starting up the vehicle.you are unable to turn the ebrake off without restarting the car.the repair shop stated it is a problem with the computer module.a quick search of the internet shows that this is a common issue with this year's make and model.luckily, the ebrake has not engaged itself yet while driving the vehicle.
My allstate rep told me that i have 4 recalls
When i start the car in the beginning of a cold day, i smell gas all around the car.i found that the car has an incomplete recalls when i entered the vin no., but i called the no. They told me that the car hasn't any recalls.
Brand new mazda cx52days after first use vehicle started bucking badly. First reported to dealer and comment was "it is the driver"next day on parkway while attempting to pass the vehicle slipped into what appeared to be neutral nearly resulting in lane change accident,.car continued to buck slipping gears in routine driving . On way to return car to dealership car started to move at red lightand then stopped resulting in minor rear end collision.
Within two months of purchasing the vehicle it broke down (in motion) on thehighway, towed it to a mazda dealership who diagnosed the problem as waterin the fuel.after a week the vehicle was returned, this time the fuelgauge was inoperable and it continued to sputter, took it to a seconddealership who kept it for another week who apparently fixed the problem.the vehicle seemed ok and exactly one week later after parking it(stationary) and walking away it burst into flames, the flames incineratedthree adjacent vehicles.
Stopped on highway at red light. Went to pull out on green, car hesitated then it felt like i was being hit from behind the transmission engaged with a big thud before i could get moving.further on down the road it would without warning, downshift then upshift, going sometimes from 6th gear to 3rd and throwing me forward.everytime i would stop and try to start there was hesitation from the transmission then it would slam into gear. When i was stopped on a slight upgrade, the car would drift backward a good bit, the only way to stop it was to give it more gas and the transmission would again slam into gear.during all this no engineor warning lights of any kind came on.the model i was driving was less than 30 days old with only 3300 miles on it. I am concerned, because i traded in a 2014 mazda cx 5 ( same model) and it also had to have the transmission replaced.mazda is replacing the transmission in this 2016 unit.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign numbers: 16v064000 (fuel system)and 16v644000 (latches/locks/linkages). The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. Vin tool confirms parts not available and parts distribution disconnect.
Fuel filler pipe melted causing extensive fire and damage. I haven't had use of my vehicle since 5/14/19.mazda is award and doesn't care. No accident involved just happened. Lost my job because of no vehicle and am behind on all payments . Car was traveling on express way when happened. Please call mechanic at excel collision apache junction az for all damage and delays
I was driving and was approaching a stop sign so i pressed brake to come to a stop.while i was pressing the brake, the car suddenly revved up and lurched forward.i had to switch the car to neutral gear to stop and then back up out of the way of oncoming traffic.
High pressure fuel pump failure. Vehicle mileage 30,020.check engine light illuminated, vehicle would not start.replacement cost 920.60.

The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx5. The contact stated that the parking brake inadvertently engaged while driving at various speeds without warning. While driving, the contact suspected that the parking brake was still engaged. The contact exited the vehicle and smelled a burning odor coming from the rear wheels. The contact then took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who also noticed the same failure with the parking brake while driving the vehicle. The vehicle was then repaired by the independent mechanic for the parking brake failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 48,784.
The electric parking brake (epb) has malfunctioned. The car was parked in a level garage overnight, without the parking brake engaged. When the car was turned on the epb light came on and is flashing, as well as the brake light warning. The warning lights remain illuminated on the dash even after multiple restarts.the emergency brake is not engaged and the car seems to drive fine. However i have no emergency brake now, which is obviously a significant safety issue.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. When the vehicle was started, the brake and electric parking brake warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to joe myers mazda (713-587-9948, located at 16500 northwest fwy, houston, tx 77040) where it was diagnosed that the parking brake module needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that a "safety concern" would be submitted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact stated that the parking brake on the vehicle was defective and the parking brake indicator remained illuminated. The contact called garlyn shelton mazda (5700 sw h k dodgen loop #363, temple, tx 76504) and was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified and stated that there were no recalls. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was 33,000. The vin was unknown.
Electronic parking brake stays engaged while driving causing brakes excessive wear and brake failure. Five 2016 cx5 vehicles manufactured in same 5 month period came to dealership with same problem. Problem first detected by squeaking. Problem gets worse until difficult to stop when braking.grumbling noise in front caused by bad bearings. Providing dealer records and parts that have been ordered.concerned that mazda has not addressed this issue which may not manifest itself for a year or more after purchase.mazda is still selling the 2016 models since the 2017's have been delayed.mazda has had rear brake problems in its previous models of cx5 but does not address issues on the 2016.concerned that someone may be seriously hurt or killed by this braking issue.car has been in service since november 17 2016 because suitable parts are still on order.worried that with time parts will deteriorate again.please see part number of the epb unit still outstanding on attachment.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle failed to move. The brake and parking brake warning lights were illuminated. Significant lag in transmission going from stop to either drive or reverse (3 - 5 seconds).car can roll backward while waiting for gear to engage, and will rev and then jerk harshly into gear.also will jerk when shifting while accelerating to highway speeds.vehicle had under 25,000 miles on it when symptoms started.took it to dealer and got approval for new transmission under warranty very quickly, which leads me to believe this is a known problem for mazda.saw many similar complaints on nhtsa website.
I have a fully loaded cx5 grand touring 2016 ---which after driving 500 miles, the transmission failed. When putting the gear in drive, the car did not move--and acted as if it was in neutral.after a bit, it would lurch forward into drive--which was scary and dangerous.my experience with the transmission is very similar to other reports on this site and should be investigated. I became stranded in a parking lot until i was able to get the car to move.i had to have it towed from my driveway since it was not safe to drive. A new transmission was ordered from mazda and installed. I received my vehicle back after 2 weeks. After driving for a week, approximately another 200 miles, i experienced a "creaking" noise when depressing the gas pedal from a parked or stopped position.now i am being told that the control arm has failed and has been ordered from mazda.how could all of this be failing on a brand new car? it is very upsetting and preplexing. Please investiage what is going on here--
My complaint is identical to complaint # 10913740.i special ordered my cx-5 & picked it up feb 2017.does not shift properly, revs up to 6000 before engaging, can't accelerate when i need to (like merging on freeway or changing lanes).please see complaint # 10913740 because he describes it better than i, a non "car person" can.i've put my my gas foot to the floor trying to gain some speed so i wouldn't get rear ended and it takes, literally, about 10 seconds to respond at all.
While getting off a freeway exit suddenly there was some noise in the engine area followed by major rattling every time the car slowed down or sped up, making it undrivable. The professional diagnostic was that something within the transmission was broken/coming apart. The car had only around 27000 miles on it and this happened within months of drive-train warranty expiring.
The following has happened numerous times on my 2016 mazda cx5 touring over the course of almost a year. The last incident occurred on or about september 23, 2016.1) while in reverse, moving to drive, there is a lag before the transmission engages and then lurches forward.2) from a stop, there is a lag before the transmission engages, the engine revs very loudly and then lurches forward.3) at another time, the engine revs loudly and very high with no noticeable increase in speed and then all of a sudden, it seems that the transmission engages. Very dangerous.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost power. In addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer multiple times, but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100.
I purchased a 2016 new mazda cx-5 in october 2016. My carwas only 5 months old with 5411 mileage on it when i experienced this problem. I was pulling up my driveway when i got in front of my garage doors of my home, with my foot on the brake about ready to put the car in park , the engine began to rev up to a high rate of speed and accelerated into my house. The house stopped the car from going any further. My husband was in the passenger seat and experienced this as well. I was pressing down on the brake, but nothing stopped it. I was close distance to the house and it happened so fast. I backed off my house. I had to get my garage doors replaced and the car fixed. I did not drive the car again. Once the body shop fixed the car (damage $2300.00 dollars), i had the vehicle towed to the mazda dealership where i purchased the car to investigate the problem. They drove it for a few weeks with a black box, but never determined the problem or it happening again. Mazda corporation was involved with this investigation. I had filed the problem with them immediately after the accident had occurred. I refused to drive the car again. The dealership (mazda in manchester, nh) worked a deal with me to buy the car back and get me into a new 2016 mazda cx-5.i hope i don't experience this with my new cx-5. I really like the car, but i have to say that was an experience that no one would ever want to experience. I am just grateful that i wasn't on a street and it happened to my own property. It cost quite a bit in deductibles on house and car and i am sure my rates will go up on insurance on both. Unfortunately mazda could not prove there was something wrong with the car, so my insurance company could not go after them for the damages. As i said before i am grateful my husband and i are ok and no one got hurt.also, i found 4-6 others reporting this same complaint on the cx-5.
Automobile was almost brand new, didn't even have license plates on it yet, when i proceeded to back out of a parking spot. The vehicle backed out but would not go forward in drive. It finally lurched into drive after giving it more gas and revving the engine. I turned the vehicle off and restarted it, again same issue. Would not move forward in drive, even in manual shift mode. Had vehicle towed. Mazda stated they are replacing the entire transmission. I am reporting in case their are others having this issue. Very thankful it happened in a parking lot and not when i was trying to pull out into traffic.
Purchased a brand new cx-5 grand touring on feb 14, 2016. After only 1,300 miles and about 3 weeks, my brand new vehicle decided to nearly come to a complete stop on its own after making a right turn. It was as if i had shifted the car into park while driving. Abrupt stop. Heard a couple beeps, saw a warning light come on. Driver behind me nearly rear ended me. Pulled over, turned on flashers, got my whits about me. Beeping gone. No warning lights on. Look around, foot off break, merge back onto road. Call their service department and make an appointment for next day. Drop off car, tell them what happened, ask for loaner while they are looking at it. Nope, no loaners but can arrange rental for $35/day. Tell me they can definitely find out what happened because if warning light came on it will store the event in the onboard computer. Borrow wife's car cause not willing to pay for rental. Speak with them near end if day. We couldn't find anything wrong. No stored event in onboard computer. Tell me if you cant duplicate the problem for us nothing we can do. Oh well. Take car home. Drives fine for 2 more weeks. Its now march 18, car owned about 6-weeks, with approx 1,600 miles. Damned if it doesn't do exact same thing again 3:30pm on friday. Amazed driver behind me doesn't rear end me. This time no beeps or warning light. Major safety issue
1600 miles in, transmission is being replaced by dealer.shifting into drive, it would take 2-5 seconds to engage. Dealer indicates mazda's solution to problem is to replace entire transmission.
While attempting to pull into a parking space with a 2016 mazda cx-5 (7000 miles) all of the warning lights on the dashboard lit up and the car started accelerating on its own (unintended acceleration). The brakes would not work!in an attempt to avoid the car parked in front of me i swerved to the right, unfortunately i hit the parked car with enough force to moved it about 12 feet forward.my vehicle continued going up an over a curbed median and finally came to rest approximately 100 feet away with enough force (brakes finally worked) to knock my glasses off as my head jerked forward.vehicle was towed to the dealer and was examined and deemed "working as designed".supposedly, information was sent to mazda usa engineers, the dealer states they found nothing unusual but have never given me a written report stating so even though i have requested it on multiple occasions. The dealer recommendation was to fix the damage to my car ($4400.00 worth) and then they would install a "special black box" and drive the vehicle for a few days.after driving the vehicle for 3 days, the dealer still says that nothing is wrong with the vehicle.we feel that mazda corp should take this vehicle back and inspect it thoroughly for unintended acceleration, as we do not feel comfortable driving this vehicle anymore.
First experienced the problem two days ago, shift the gear from parked position to reverse but the gear failed to engage immediately; then shift the gear to drive again gear failed to engage immediately for 3 or 4 seconds then sudden jerk when gear engaged vehicle starts to move forward (luckily did not step hard on the accelerator and rev the rpm). Same problem happened on highway speed with either acceleration/deceleration where rpm rev from approx. 2500rpm surge to 4500/5000rpm then experienced strong jerk.also, when vehicle stopped at signal (longer stop) gear in drive position seems to disengage and same problem occurs.vehicle left at mazda dealership and checked bymazda service mechanic awaiting for their investigation.
I have a 2016 mazda cx-5 grand touring automatic transmission. I bought it 9/28/15. Yesterday (12/9/15) with only 4500 miles on it, i started having problems with the transmission. Reverse was ok, but it was having difficulty engaging in drive. It felt like it was in neutral and wouldn't move. This would happen not only when i was starting out but while i was driving. It would slip out of gear. Even when i was driving down the highway in cruise control, the vehicle would attempt to accelerate but the engine would just wind up and it wouldn't kick in. One point i was in a parking lot trying to make a left-hand turn onto a road and when there was a break in the traffic i attempted to pull out. The car got partway onto the road and went into neutral making it impossible for me to continue across into the other lane. I was almost hit by the oncoming traffic because i was unable to move out of the way. From there i drove straight to the dealer where i had gotten the vehicle. Two men from the service garage took the car for a drive and said they were able to duplicate the problem every time. They called the mazda hotline and were told it needed a new transmission. They gave me a loaner vehicle and are waiting for the transmission to be sent to them so it can be replaced.
Bought 2016 cx-5 mid-sept, then started experiencing 5-second lags after shifting into drive in late dec (approx 4,000 miles on vehicle). The car would hesitate and jerk, as if it had been in neutral, despite pressing down accelerator gently or fully. On new years' day the car was unreliable from a stop, even after a minute pressing accelerator in drive. 5 warning lights lit up on dash including at, engine, transaxle warning, and emergency, drive acted like neutral, so it was dangerous to cross an intersection after a stop light. Couldn't get above 2000 rpm, and that after a slow ramp-up. Still worked fine in rev which eliminated some possibilities like trans fluid. Check in with the service department of mazda hamilton imports in nj 609-587-7600 to find out what they had to replace!
Vehicle would not engage in drive when shifted into drive. There was a 3-5 second delay and the engine would rev, but the vehicle would not move. When the vehicle did engage in drive it would pull forward hard and clunk into gear.
The vehicle was bought brand new on 06/30/2015. It needed a new transmission at 20,690 miles (09/02/16). At ~43,000 miles, leaks were detected. The mechanic diagnosed the problem as powertrain issues. The leak was transmission fluid that spread to the whole length of the car underneath. The dealer was contacted, car was towed to the dealership that later confirmed the mechanic's diagnosis. Powertrain will be fixed at the manufacturer's expense (the manufacturer considers it a manufacturing issue and has honored the warranty).
I purchased my car on sept 10, 2015.i currently have 6,300 miles on my vehicle. When at a stop light and i step on the gas to go, the car does not move and just revs very loudly.after a few seconds, the car accelerates and the car jerks pretty violently (to the point where my head hits the back of the head rest).this was very consistent on my way home from work.when i was driving up an incline, the car's timing seemed to be off as it needed to downshift but couldn't when it should have.i made it home and had to have my car towed to the mazda dealership in nashua, nh.per the dealership on 2/22, the car needs a brand new transmission.
I bought this car june 2016 and last week i took it to the dealership after a few weeks of stepping on the accelerator and waiting for the vehicle to move. Then one day 6/2/16 i put it in drive after backing out of the driveway into a street, stepped on the accelerator and it would not move. It took me 3 times of putting it back in park then in drive to move at which point i drove it right to the dealership. I was told the next day that they did not know why it failed but they were going to have to replace it. I got online and saw that many other cx5 owners have had the same problem. Having the power train fail after stopping at a stop sign, a red light, or after backing out of a driveway onto a street puts the driver in a dangerous situation.
The vehicle would not go from reverse to drive or drive to reverse.it would be in drive but would reverse.then it would lurch forward and the engine would rev and it would go forward.it had a delayed reaction when changing the gears and engine would rev up when it finally would change.i took it to mazda dealer and they said itneeds a new transmission.it has 1000 miles and is about 6 weeks old.
While driving the vehicle, the infotainment system abruptly turned off.shortly thereafter and immediately after activating the turn signal the car stalled.the vehicle seemed to have completely turned off and coasted to a stop.the car then restarted and the check engine light was on.
Transmission began to fail at around 1800 miles. Car would hesitate to engage in gear from a stop, and also would just spin before engaging in a new gear on the highway. Dealer replaced transmission per mazda recommendation. This seems to be a common complaint on this model.
I was driving about 35 mph along a mountain road i drive on to commute to work, suddenly i had no forward power, it was like the car was in neutral but it was in drive.the city brake system malfunction light came on also.i was lucky in that i was able to safely pull off the road.i turned the car off and then on again but still had no forward motion however the car would operate in reverse.i did some on line research while waiting for the tow truck and discovered that my vehicle was not the only one that this had happened to.the car only had 17,000.00 miles on it.the dealership replaced the entire transmission but could not offer me any explanation as to what exactly went wrong with it.they said they sent the entire transmission back to mazda.they also mentioned that mine was not the first transmission they had replaced.i am lucky that this happened in an area where i could safely pull off the road.as i stated there was no advance warning of this it just happened.in fact i had just had the vehicle at the dealership the week before for the 15,000.00 mile service.i would like to know what is going on with these transmissions and certainly don't feel confident driving around in my car any longer especially since the dealership could not assure me that the problem had been fixed.
Car became stuck in a singlegear and would not rev higher than 2000 rpm and would not shift gears. Would not engage for a few seconds, then would lurch forward.
While driving the would not shift. Engine light, traction control light and flat tire light all came on and the car would not go over 10. Tried to shift manually and nothing. Got over and stopped, restarted car and only engine light was on tried to move and it did for a very short distance and al the light and not shifting again. Stopped and re-started again and i could shift manually. I let the car sit for two hours and the auto transmission did work but didn't respond well. After about an hour drive it loss power and wouldn't shift again. I believe the transmission isn't being allowed to shift due to a valve issue. Currently waiting for mazda to make a decision dealer re-set computer and all light are off, but car still doesn't respond well when driving so it is still at dealer ship and the car isn't a year old with only 18500 miles.
Coasting.driving to a stop sign or stop light or stopping point at a declining speed from 30mph to 25/20/15mph intervals are where the 'tugging'/'stutter' happens. Dealership says it is normal operation for the car to shift into gear when declining in speeds. Even corporate agreed with them. The only thing that is not normal is how come awd variation doesn't have this issue? my older mazda 3 from 2009 i drove didn't have this issue. Tested a mazda 3 new 2018 and they had this issue. Also tested a sales department 2016 fwd cx 5, similar issue. My friend who is a physoclogist, her cx 5 2016 has the same tugging issue. Dealership said it could be a torque converter/transmission/ or cold weather within th transmission lines. No error codes were present when they checked. The driving experience seems very degrading for the newer models. The abrupt tugging could cause an accident to someone ahead of me or the jerking could make me hit the gas pedal even harder. Spoke to: service request number 1-1225218842 spoke to roy from mazda csdepartment 800.222.5500select prompt 2, then ext. 1148. The cs called dealership and followed dealership guidance. If this is new for the vechicle as a standard of driving, then this must make it very unpleasant and predictable for future accidents.
I had driven my new car for only about 700 miles when the transmission failed.i was waiting for a red light to turn green.when it did, i pressed on the gas and the car engine roared, but the transmission acted as if it were in neutral.the car went no where for about five seconds.i put on my hazard lights and was lucky not to be hit from behind.eventually, the drive kicked in.i took it to the dealer and was told it needed a new transmission.there was no known recall issue as of yet.mazda replaced the transmission as per the warranty.
At 609 miles the car started to buck when starting to accelerate from being stopped. The car then would also shift roughly on the the highway when you hit the 25 mph mark.the car then advanced to being only able to go in reverse or first gear only from a stopped position..you could not move forward in drive. The car is currently at the dealers awaiting a new transmission.
There is a rubbing/grinding/vibration feel on the pedals and steering wheel, including the entire body vibration that can be also seen in the side mirrors. These problem are more noticeable at high speed. I suspect either the tire, brake, rotors, alignment, suspension or transmission problems. I have brought my car 6 times to three different dealership already with the guidance from mazda corporate costumer service but they are denying my cx-5 issues. This is pretty scary to drive, i always feelthat something bad gonna happenon my car in the freeway because ofrough and bumpy ride. This happened since the day i bought this. I am very disappointed with this car for 32k $. All mazda dealership are not cooperating. Very bad experience.
The same story happened on my 2016 cx-5. I purchased my car on july 8th 2015. I only had 2000 miles on my vehicle when this happened. When at a stop light and i step on the gas to go, the car does not move and just revs very loudly. After a few seconds, the car accelerates and the car jerks pretty violently. This was very consistent on my way home from work. When i was driving up an incline, the car's timing seemed to be off as it needed to downshift but couldn't when it should have. I made it home and had to have my car towed to the mazda dealership in irvine, ca. The dealership just told me that the car needs a brand new transmission. They do not what is the reason.and they could not tell is the repair totally fix the problem. They just did whatever mazda told them to do.after three weeks, finally i got my cx-5 repaid. It was a really bad experience. I don't feel safe to drive with mazda anymore.there are more and more same cases about cx-5 power train.further investigations are strongly needed.
Had fully loaded cx5 touring 4 months.suddenly today, when i press on accelerator, car would jerk as it was attempting to drive forward.after i made it to work, left work early to go to dealership.car would start and go into reverse, but it would not go forward in drive.car had to be towed to dealership, where they are trying to diagnose the problem.i am really nervous that they find the problem and fix it correctly the first time.i have a 90 mile commute (round trip) on a fast moving toll road, and cannot take the chance ofbreaking down when i am in route.
Purchased with just 50k miles. Took to mazda for service light. Notified the differential needed replacement citing 2 tb (10155436 and 10145248) clearly identifying the root cause as defect in manufacturing. Further investigation provided clear proof of mazda's assessment with the differential and pointing to the tb's as case for the claim approval. Pictures show year's long buildup of rust, broken couplers, water contaminated oil, metal shaving. All reflective of the damage created by the defective design indicated in the tb. The warranty claim was denied because of the related issues with the defective seal allowing damage to the differential and related parts. Also effectively voided my power-train warranty coverage. This presents a hazard operating the vehicle at certain speeds with broken metal parts in the transfer gears. I think it requires a recall because it is inevitable water, rain, snow, even a car washes will get into the system because of the faulty design. Facts: vehicle had prior mazda service and there is no evidence to support mazda presented the repair option prior to the dash light appearing. Mazda has no service or warranty checks in place that detects the damage. The time it takes for that level of rust build up to accrue is self-evident this is major safety issue that should require a recall but also a matter of ethics and integrity. Water in your rear axle will undoubtedly cause failure to sealed mechanical components. Mazda was aware of this issue for years yet does not offer the consumer any additional coverage or any way to protect themselves from a hefty repair costs or risk of harm due to this failure. The vehicle itself holds evidence of drive-train and its warning system are both defective because the historic error codes/mileage in its internal memory. The system failed alerting the issues well after the manufacturer's warranty expired.
The 'start/stop' button to turn off the vehicle, can be done in any gear. When done in "park" the vehicle locks up the wheels and the vehicle does not roll. When stopped in other grears' the vehicle will roll out of my driveway. Vehicle should be corrected so the transmission will lock the wheels up when the vehicle is turned off in any transmission position.
When the car is cold and parked the transmission will lurch into drive sometimes and everytime when the car is cold the transmission will get stuck in third or fourth gear and the car will not accelerate until i floor it until then the car won't shift out of gear for a few hundred feet and continue to big down the engine, then after that the transmission will downshift and the car will start to accelerate. If i manually shift the car into first the problem won't occurre as badly. This sofar only happens once when the transmission and engine are cold. But even if i let the car sit and idle for a few minutes it'll still happen.
Dealer identified drive belt tensioner as leaking and in need of replacement on a mazda cx-5 with less than 30k miles on it. Many owners have reported identical failures at or around 30k. An insufficient part that is failing so frequently, this early on with low mileage is a significant safety issue.
When the vehicle is parked, then i move gear from park to drive, or reverse to drive, the vehicle stalls to go into to drive for a couple of seconds, the engine revs then there is a forceful jolt when it finally kicks in to drive.also, when i'm at a stop for a while, then press on the gas pedal to drive, it takes a couple of seconds for the car to drive. This is a big concern for me because there seems to be a delay with the drive gear.
When starting car and putting it into drive, then push the gas, the car hesitates to go into drive then jolts when it finally shifts into gear from park. My concern is that it takes long to go into drive from park, and the engine revs and jolts violently when it finally reads the drive gear which is not normal and is a safety concern for me.
While accelerating or decelerating the rpms will jump nearly 1,000rpms before decreasing to its normally expected levels. This results in jumps and stutters in the transmission. Additionally, while shifting from reverse to drive the transmission takes several seconds to engage resulting in a vehicle that lingers in neutral. This makes the vehicle free roll backwards for several seconds before popping into drive which results in increased pressure in the drivetrain.
Put car into reverse and all was fine.when i tried to put it into drive it wouldn't engage in drive.after a while it engaged with a hard clunk.when i drove it and would try to accelerate it was the same thing.as if the car was not shifting.this happened on both neighborhood streets and on the highway.
While backing out from a driveway into a city street, i shifted the vehicle from reverse to drive.the gear shift indicated that the car was in drive, but the vehicle continued to roll backward as if it was in neutral.the engine then stopped, and the vehicle needed to be pushed from the street out of the travel lanes.
I purchased this vehicle with 36k miles on it, clean carfax, with only 1 owner. Within an hour from driving it home from the dealership, i noticed an issue when putting it in drive. There was a 5 second delay. Every single time i put it on drive, the delay would happen. If you stepped on the gas, it would act as if it were in neutral and violently jolt forward. Luckily, i was in a parking lot and i was able to avoid accidents. I purchased this car to transport my children but i no longer feel that it is safe. The solution i was given at the dealership was that the transmission may potentially need to be replaced. Now i understand why it took them 3 months to sell this car. I feel like this is unethical.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact stated that the rear passenger side seat belt did not recoil once adjusted. The failure occurred without warning. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 22,000.

Hello, the head restraints on our new cx-5 are far to forward for proper posture.if we sit upright, the backs of our heads actually touch the head restraint forcing our chins to our neck.i understand the need for good head restraints, but at the cost of proper posture?i see the test dummy biorid has horrible posture with it's head far forward of it's shoulders.this has long term bad effects for your spine to sit like this.
When the vehicle is powered off, the back rest of the driver's chair will fall back completely taking 2-10 seconds to hit the rear seating. After turning on the vehicle, i will have to readjust the chair taking about 1-2 minutes to adjust the back rest into an upright position. This happened numerous times and sporadically, happened once while driving at slow speed about 15-20 mph. Also, head rest to too far forward making it uncomfortable. Company should look into electrically motorized head rest for angle and elevation.
2016 mazda cx-5 power driver seat reclines to varying degrees (sometimes fully, sometimes partially) intermittently without input while vehicle is parked.might happen today and not again for several weeks or more than a month but could happen again tomorrow.seat adjustment switch works normally otherwise.dealer unable to diagnose or duplicate problem.no further assistance offered other than we must be rubbing against the adjustment switch as we exit the vehicle.this would be impossible since the seat adjustment switch requires continuous activation rather than a momentary input while exiting the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact stated that the driver's seat would not adjust and failed to operate as needed. The contact took the vehicle to russ darrow mazda of madison (5234 high crossing blvd, madison, wi 53718, 888-613-7513) where she was provided a repair estimate. The contact refused to pay for a replacement and the seat remained unrepaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 70,000.
When the upper portion of the driver's seat is left alone overnight, it switches positions by the next morning (ie the upper seat is always back further than where it was left the prior evening - so it happens overnight). This seat is electric, not manual. When this occurs, the vehicle is sitting and not running. This has happened multiple times (over 20 times).
I slowed down in grocery store parking lot. Slowly approaching parking space and applying the brake to stop car. Then suddenly with no reason the car accelerated, jumped the curb and hit building. The whole right side was heavy damaged.i had no control. It was unintended acceleration. I moved the car off the grass from building, this time stopped normally. I am afraid to drive this car because i am concerned it will do this again and i could hurt or kill myself or someone else. Car is still under warranty to 8/12/2019.please visit www.carproblemzoo.com/mazda/cx-5/service-brakes-problem and you will see so many cx-5 owners have reported problems related to brakes. Some experienced unintended acceleration twice. This is big safety problem.
42k miles left rear wheel became super hot, took to mechanic, left year caliper was locked up , called mazda they can do nothing car out of warranty, i have seen many of these cars with same issue
My fiance started to hear a noise coming from my rear when brakes while i was driving. I also noticed that my car would rock when i took the parking brake off. I was told that my rear brake pads were worn down, the rear passenger side had slightly more wear then the the rear driver side. New pads were installed around 32,000 miles.about 8,000 miles later i started to hear the same noise again, this time it was worse.i took in again to get looked at and the rear passenger pads were completely worn down, while the rear driver pads barely had any wear to them.i was told it was most likely a malfunctioning caliber.mazda ran my vin and stated that is came up as a tsb but stated that i was out of warranty and that they would not cover it.i would like to report this because i am afraid that when i drive my vehicle my brakes will malfunction causing me get into an accident which may result in death.
Parking brake randomly comes on and won't shut off. I started my car and usually the parking brake comes on but after several attemptsit shuts off. Today it will not turn off the parking brake.i have tried several combinations involving to push the start button without foot on brake and release brake with foot on brake before the car fully turn on and when car is partly on to off. After 41 minutes waiting (after spending almost 1 hour messing with it) i turned on the car and it works now. Unreliable transportation!
My wifes car is just over 3 years old, couple month out of warranty of coarse however the emergency parking brake light for no reason comes on and blinks when it does this it also blink the red light on the dash. It was only doing this at start up however now it seem to do it at random even while driving which is very scary to think your brakes could actually lockup. Called mazda usa, and they said well it must be diagnosed by one of there dealership and even then would not probably consider covering any part of the bill which can run up to $1000.00 for the epb module. This car has been 100% cared for all records barely 21.000 miles, this is the 3rd faulty issue of something breaking on this car-1st- one of those expensive led lights burned out, 2nd electric seat motor burn out,and now this module and the customer rep states they are not at liberty to discuss if this was in fact a problem and safety issue .please be safe and careful when you purchasingyour mazda cx-5
When replacing rear drivers side rear brakes and rotor, noticed excessive wear compared to passenger side. Replaced pads and rotors on both drivers and passengers rear. Twice since the replacement, the rear brakes have stayed engaged on the drivers side, causing excessive heating, smoking, etc to the brakes, wheels, and tires. Suspect parking brake on driver side not disengaging. Have stopped using parking brake. Have not had repeat occurrance since stopped using parking brake.
Parking brake malfunction; dragging of rear wheels especially when turning; sudden seizing of brake while pulling out of parking lot.
I pulled into a parking space and before i could put the car in park it jumped the curb and hita vacant building.their were damages to the glass windows and the frame of the build is what stopped the car.
The emergency parking brake fails to properly release causing major damage to calipers, rotors, ad pads.
I was driving and was approaching a stop sign so i pressed brake to come to a stop.while i was pressing the brake, the car suddenly revved up and lurched forward.i had to switch the car to neutral gear to stop and then back up out of the way of oncoming traffic.
The electronic parking brake on my 2016 mazda cx-5 started acting strange a few weeks ago. At first it would not disengage after starting the car, but would do so after a couple of restarts. Then it started engaging slightly while driving, with no indications. Stopping and restarting the engine a few times would usually release it. A couple of days ago this happened and the brake would not disengage after several restarts and i was going to call a tow truck. It disengaged after about 30 minutes. As i understand it mazda knows that the rear caliper is defective (see technical service bulletin r052/16c). This should be a recall item because this is not safe.
The electronic parking brake locks the rear wheels as designed.the toggle switch that activates the brakes has direct control that does not go through the anti-lock brake system or the on board computer.once the parking brake is activated, at any speed, there is a two step process required to release the brakes and allow the rear wheels to rotate.in my case, the accidental activation of the brake switch at less than 10 mph locked up the rear brakes and the car came to a very abrupt screeching halt.if i were going faster when this occurred, the brake lock up could have led to a loss of control of the vehicle.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. While driving 5 mph, the vehicle accelerated and increased rapidly without warning. Also, the brakes failed to work. As a result, the contact drove over a small tree and then crashed into another tree, which helped stop the vehicle. The contact sustained muscle, neck, and back pain. Medical attention was not required. A police report was not filed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 2,751.
Electric parking brake (epb) control module failure:on june 19 and 20 of 2019 my 2016 cx-5 with only 18,000 miles experienced a problem with the electric parking brake function.when i would lift the epb switch to set the parking brake the indicator light would start flashing and a warning sign ((p!)) would show up on the dash display.the mazda dealer did a diagnostic check and determined the epb control module needed replacing. $765 later i was back on the road.*as this appears to be an inherent problem with 2016 cx-5s with vins below 781350 (see tsb 04-005/16 of 08/05/2016 attached.)my vin is 654830. Also, https://www.carcomplaints.com/mazda/cx-5/2016/brakes/service_brakes.shtml shows a number of complaints starting in 2016 about this safety issue.i also saw some comments that a faulty epb could cause the brakes to lock up unexpectedly.this would be a serious safety issue if that were to happen in traffic.there were numerous other comments about the epb issue for the 2016 cx-5.i feel this should have been a recall item in 2016.this is a life safety concern.your consideration of this concern is appreciated.please see attacheddocumentation.thank you. 'parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'
At 15k miles the driver's side rear brake caliper failed, causing the brake to drag and overheat during a 400 mile holiday roadtrip.by the time the problem was discovered by the elderly owners, the rear pads were worn down to the backing plates and the rotors were heavily scored.there were no warning lights illuminated or other indication alerting the driver to the problem.this is a known issue with the rear calipers and electric parking brake (epb) given the tsbs that mazda has published on the matter as well as the number of complaints online and with the nhtsa.mazda replaced the failed driver's side caliper under warranty but declined to cover the damaged pads and rotor caused by their defective assembly even after escalting the issue to corporate.this should be a safety recall but mazda would rather jeopardize the safety of their customer (by not proactively replacing the passenger side caliper) and charge them $500 for a brake job to correct collateral damage caused by their defective parts.we have been long-time loyal customers of mazda but they have acted unethically in this instance and did not fulfill their warranty claim in good faith.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle failed to move. The brake and parking brake warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact called jeff wyler eastgate mazda (1117 oh-32, batavia, oh 45103, (513)752-3447) however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.
Took car in for oil change and tire rotation. Less than 10,000 miles, car just 2 years old.needed major brake job.total $600.they are telling me because i live at the beach the salt corroded the brakes and it is not covered by warranty.i called customer service and wrote to mazda headquarters.no one would help me.my concern is will this be occurring every 2 years and are the brakes safe????
Car has 6379 miles.brakes grabbing and car jerks at times when peddle applied.car has 20% brake pad lr 20% rr 50%rf 50% lf. Took into mazda dealer and the solution was to replace pads.with 6379 miles driven mostly on highwayis this a faulty pad product? happens at low speeds when stopping. Started 06/17 and still happening.
Mazda has a tsb 04-005/15 that needs to be expanded to include the 2016 model year; currently it only covers model years 2013-2014, build before oct 9, 2013.my 2016 cx5 (with less than 30,000mi.) has experienced the same failure as described by mazda's tsb (excessive outer brake pad wear with little inner pad wear).madza service managers are not honoring this tsb if thevin is after the effective date.sorry i don't have any photos at this time to document the problem.i have attached mazda's tsb 04-005/15 which describe the problem and their proposed solution, and how they have extended the vehicle warranty period for having this issue repaired.
In traffic when the cars ahead suddenly stopped. I applied breaks hard andthey kicked back, resisting my efforts to stop. Narrowly avoided accident by shiftinginto n and hitting the break again. I stopped a few inches from the vehicle ahead !
Intermittently, the rear electronic parking brakes do not fully release. This causes the rear brake pads to wear on the rotors. This in turn results in premature brake wear, excessive heat, and a burning smell. This has happened multiple times in all different weather conditions.
Excessive rear brake wear. Rear pads worn down to metal backing plate at 20,900 miles with no audible break wear indicator. Front brakes 70% worn at same milage.
Within the last month the electronic parking brake self engaged 3 times when i started my car i noticed the brake light on. I never engage the parking brake when parked in the driveway. I was able to disengage it twice, but the last time it would not disengage. I followed all the steps listed in the car manual, but nothing worked. I had to drive with the electronic parking brake on to the dealership. Upon inspection the service department confirmed it was an internal electronic failure.
Car is a 2016.5 mazda cx-5 with approx 12,000 miles.car began making a grinding sound while driving; made an appointment with mazda to look into the problem.dropped off the vehicle may 11, 2018, picked up the vehicle may 12, 2018.service technician stated it was the vehicles brakes, which are not covered under warranty, and would need to be paid out of pocket.i was surprised to hear i needed new brakes due to the low mileage and age of the vehicle so i brought the car to my personal mechanic, to get a second opinion, before having any expensive repairs performed by mazda.local mechanic (midas shop) said that the rear brakes were entirely worn down (outer pads only) and had worn down so much, they had damaged the rear brake rotors while the rear inner pads appeared to have minimal wear consistent with the age of the vehicle.front brakes also looked to have minimal wear consistent with the age of the vehicle.midas recommended the rear brake pads and rotors be changed immediately for safety purposes; and commented how unusual this brake problem seemed.upon getting home, i searched the internet and found tsb #04-005-16-3217; nhtsa #10092486 (amongst others) that tell of a similar issue.upon going back to mazda with the brakes and rotors that had prematurely failed and explaining the tsb's online, and requesting a refund for the money spent at the local shop; i was told there was nothing they could do.i just feel that mazda should have replaced my brakes and rotors upon my initial visit, knowing that this appears to be a common issue in cars with low mileage.
Grinding and squeaking in rear brake pads and rotors only. Car has 26,000 miles on it with visible marks on rear rotors only! noise happens while driving or braking
Vehicle has only 29,370 miles driven. The right rear brake lining has undue wear at 3 mm. The left rear brake lining measures 5-6 mm. During routine servicing the mazda technician discovered abnormal brake wear. Mazda dealership recommends replacement of both rear calipers. Mazda corporation is unwilling to help. It appears maxda cx-5 is having problems with their epb and is unwilling to admit it.
I slowed down in my neighborhood, going about 10 miles and hour, and was coasting into a parking space at about 5 mph in my home neighborhood.it was about 1:15 pm on a sunny, clear day.i was applying the brake to stop the car as i pulled into the spot yet i was going slow and coasting straight into the spot.suddenly, the car sped up, the brakes had no response, and the car jumped over the curb and ran into two bushes.i did not have my foot on the accelerator, i had my foot on the brake...but more than anything, i had no control, it was unintended acceleration. Then the car stopped after i hit the bushes.i was shaken, but no bags deployed. I then moved the car off of the grass, and pulled the car around to the same parking space.this time the car stopped normally.i have 18,168 miles on this car.i have been the only owner. I am afraid to drive this car because i am concerned it will do this again and i will be in traffic or near people and i could hurt or kill myself or someone else.there was no warning of any problem.
While driving approx. 40 mph on a state road, my tpms warning light went on. At first i thought it was a simple tire pressure issue, but then i began to smell burning. I stopped my car and saw smoke coming from my rear right (passenger side) wheel. I promptly brought the car to a 3rd party mechanic and they informed me the caliper remained engaged and my rotors were overheating. They tried contacting mazda dealerships and 3rd party sources for either new or rebuilt caliper but the part was out of stock and on backorder with no estimated date when it would be replenished. My car is still unrepaired and i cannot drive it as the excessive heating of the rotor could disable my braking ability. This seems to be a common issue with other cx-5 models.
Dec 9, 2017 - today was first day of snow and first day in my >2 years of driving cx-5 that i experienced loss in braking, which scared the hell out of me. It happened thrice within span of 20 minutes. Each time i started the car and tried to brake for the 1st time, it wouldn't stop and rolled over for atleast 3-5 feet even when i had the brakes pressed to the floor. Thankfully it was on internal roads and i was at 15 mph anticipating stop signs at intersections. It hasn't happened to me before during last year winter season, so not sure what is causing it.
Our 2016 mazda cx-5 has 16,000 miles on it and the rear brakes have completely deteriorated. After visiting the dealership, i was told the brakes have rusted out due to the use of the parking break (we need to use the parking break due to where we park). Mazda claims this is a normal 'wear-and-year' issue but i do not see how this is as the vehicle has such low mileage. The 2013-2015 cx-5s suffered a similar issue where mazda will fix and replace the brakes. However for us, they claim this is our fault although the vehicle is less than two years old.
The brakes have been faulty since i've purchased the vehicle new. There is a loud scream that is not from dust or wear. There is a manufacturing defect in the brakes. The brakes are very loud every time i apply them. I am very concerned about this, have contacted the company before.
At 31,234 miles my mechanic said that my brake pads and rotars and tires needed to be replaced.when we was replacing them, the emergency brake and calipers seized up and he had to order parts (which took a while because of the number of issues with the emergency brake on my model of car). He said that the problems with the emergency brakes likely also caused wear and tear on my regular breaks and caused them to need to be replaced early.
Bought new car; driven less than 400 miles; thudding noise noticed pretty much from day 1. Got louder. Took it in. The right rear hub, and bearing assembly were faulty and had also damaged inner disc. The dealer fixed it but assurance of "faulty part, doesn't happen with mazda" now does not ring true. This could have been a safety issue for me had i been driving long distance, for which this car was purchased.
Sbs inadvertent activation while pulling into a clear parking stall
The electric parking brake (epb) has malfunctioned. The car was parked in a level garage overnight, without the parking brake engaged. When the car was turned on the epb light came on and is flashing, as well as the brake light warning. The warning lights remain illuminated on the dash even after multiple restarts.the emergency brake is not engaged and the car seems to drive fine. However i have no emergency brake now, which is obviously a significant safety issue.
My tire pressure indicator light was triggered on when i drove the car for about 40 mph. I stopped at a parking lot and i noticed the rear right wheel was literally smoking. Later i went to a local shop and i was told the brake was overheated on the rear right side. My local shop replaced the rotor and pads, however, the overheat problem kept showing up on that right rear side. I did some research online and it seems to be a common problem with the parking brake dragging for 2016 cx5. So i stopped using the parking brake and the overheating problem was gone. However, the parking brake is still defective and causes overheat if used.
In august 2016, i bought a brand new 2016 mazda cx-5 (dealership: wellesley mazda). Unfortunately, the car had issues related to my brakes. On december 08, 2017, the brakes of my right rear tire locked up while i was driving in a city street (35mph zone) causing them to overheat to the point where the brake disc got red hot and smoked up, increasing the risk of my tires blowing out/catching fire due to the heat generated by friction. In addition to this being a safety risk for myself and other people on the road, this was extremely inconvenient. My car was in no condition to be driven and i was stranded alone in the middle of the night.this is not the first time this issue occured. I had a similar complaint in august 2017 where the left wheel locked involuntarily while i was driving. I was fortunate that i was able to notice the smoke before things got worse and that this did not cause a collision. Wellesley mazda replaced the calipers, brake disc etc. Only for that particular tire, despite my repeated requests to replace those for all the tires or for at least that axle. My car has only run ~8,000 miles, i am regular with my car's maintenance and my last service was on 12/04/2017. Mazda is telling me now that this was a known issue with the calipers and there was a service bulletin for this. However, i was not made aware of the this issue and the safety bulletin. This could've been done on multiple occasions: a) when the issue with the left brake happened b) when i reported a grinding noise coming from my car (in sept or oct) c) when i got my car serviced. They were not able to detect this issue and as a safety precaution did not replace the other caliper, a decision that proved to be incorrect and a risk to me and others. There are no recalls either.
Rear brakes are dragging causing heating and uneven wear of the rotors and pads. At 31000 the rear brake pads are completely worn and rotor show heat damage.
Driving the vehicle causes the rear brakes to get hot. This happened multiple times in september (around 40,000 miles), and i took my cx-5 in for service. The technicians did not find anything operating incorrectly, lubricated the brakes, and returned my vehicle. When i got my state safety inspection, i was informed that my rear brakes were passable, but pretty crummy looking because of heat damage. Because we were locked down (due to coronavirus) i waited a bit and just recently had them replaced.now that my rear brakes have new pads and rotors, the rear brake issue is happening again, specifically on the driver's side this time. After about 15 minutes of highway driving, the vehicle began to shake in the rear and the tire pressure monitor indicated that there was a problem. I took it in to the dealer again, and they told me the rear brakes are operating normally. However, on my drive home (18 miles on the highway), the rear of the vehicle began shaking again, so i knew the issue was not resolved.i checked the temperature of the driver's side rear brake rotor, and it was over 400 degrees (the other rotors were around 150, see page 9 of attached document).i contacted mazda customer service about this issue, and they told me that because the dealer can't detect an issue, there is nothing they can do. Mazda has issued tsbs related to the electronic parking brake for my vehicle, but i believe their diagnostic steps are not sufficient to detect all cases of the issue. Their diagnostic steps are all related to low-speed driving, but my issue only presents itself after driving on the highway for a prolonged period.
This winter, it happened multiple times, in cold weather conditions of approx. -4 to 14 degrees f (-20 to -10 degrees c), when starting the car, the car exhibited the electric parking brake (epb) light flashing, along with the red flashing brake icon and the parking brake icon illuminated on my dash. That warning would be on even the day after, with the car off, until the temperature became warmer.
Rear brake pads and rotors show severe wear at 14k miles.rotors have visible wear marks and corrosion.braking function impaired and pedal must be deeply pressed to achieve deceleration.dealer said this is normal wear and tear and replaced pads.however even with new pads, braking is still mushy.2015 and 2014 model years had similar problem / tsb.appears that manufacturing defect continued into 2016 model year.
On 01/10/17 at 11656 miles i reported a burning smell present consistently for several months. Lester glenn mazda said they couldn't detect anything.i went for service 19may 18 and was told that my rear brakes were bad. Report i have from that service shows red for rear and green for front brakes at 36865 miles. 26 may 18 mazda lodi told me all 4 brakes and rotors were bad. I asked how the front brakes were bad 1 week afterlester glenntold me the front brakes were green. I was told that most shops have inexperienced people but lodi has all their people trained as master technicians. I was told lester glenn probably didn't measure. Lodi said rears were really really bad and that i should replace all 4 brakes and rotors and all 4 tires for even wear. I was told car was not safe to drive without the work. I got the work done. Repairs were completed at 37354 miles. 24may19 i am told all brakes are good. I call 06 jun 19 and complain that i am hearing squeaking. I call& i'm told that it's probably nothingbut best to see if it persists.sound persists. I go in24 jun19 and complain of noise and vibration through steering wheel and floor board. The service manager drives the car with me and hears the squeak faintlybut says he doesn't feel the vibration and that the brakes are working well.i let them check and am told the left rear caliper is seized. The caliper went through the pad to the rotor and rear pads and rotors were replaced.i am still hearing squeaking and i fear it the right rear caliper since it wasn't changed. I've changed my rear pads and rotors twice in 1yr/20000 mi. I found out my car is affected by tsb r052/16c (04-001/18) and 04-002/19. R052/16c resulted in a production change in rear calipers starting in september 9 2016.mazdausa won't acknowledge that their dealers should have replaced my rear calipers or that they should have issued a recall.
On july 25 i slowed down in grocery store parking lot. Slowly approaching parking space and applying the brake to stop car. Then suddenly with no reason the car accelerated, jumped the curb.then car stopped after i hit building fortunately no humans. I was shaken but no bags deployed. I am afraid to drive this car because i am concerned it will do this again and i will be in traffic or near people and i could hurt or kill myself or someone else. There was no warning of any problems. Car is still under warranty to 8/12/2019. Nhtsa had problem with toyota unintended acceleration in 2010. Please help with unintended accelerationon mazda. People reported this problem before me back to 2015.this is my second complaint . Nobody called me back andcalled agency been told your employee he cannot give me information i have to write letter and ask. You are government agency and your motto is people saving people. Please do.
My car was parked in a level garage overnight and the next day after driving for about 5 minutes the electronic parking brake (epb) light started flashing on both the dashboard and the epb control lever and the brake light warning light was lit.it seemed to be driving fine, and i never engaged the parking brake so i thought i may have done so accidentally. I pulled over, turned the car off and tried to disengage the parking brake but it just kept flashing.i took it to my garden city mazda dealership to service it for the daytime running lights recall, so i told them about this problem as well.while waiting for the appointment, some days the lights stayed off and some days came on. At the dealership, i paid $140 for a diagnostic and was told that the parking brake module shorted out and needed to be replaced, at a cost of over $900.i asked if there was a chance my brakes would malfunction or if i could drive the car safely and was told the brakes would not be affected, so due to the cost i opted to not have it repaired.this car is less than 5 years old and i should not have to pay for this safety defect.my odometer reads approximately 55,000.now i have to drive around with a very distracting red parking brake warning light flashing on and off constantly and my brake warning light lit.this distraction is an additional safety concern.i'm not sure if garden city mazda reported this issue to the manufacturer, but apparently mazda is aware of this issue but no safety recall has been made. Why?i feel at the very least, even if no safety recall, that customers should have this issue repaired at no cost as soon as they report it to mazda.perhaps abc's 7 on your side, pix 11's [xxx] /what a shame, nbc's better get [xxx], or any consumer investigative unit would be interested in featuring this problem - before someone gets killed!please help!tyinformation redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the a-pillar trim molding was replaced; however, the failure recurred. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was not parked in areas where it was exposed to excessive heat. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 6,000.
Liftgate wouldn't unlock sometimes and the car was stationary.
Large fish hook shaped crack on windshield of my 2016 mazda cx-5 with 23000 mles. The crack appeared on a 55 degree morning after i pulled my vehicle out of the garage and drove half a block to a stop sign and i watched the crack appear.the crack starts at the top center edge of the windshield goes down about 6 inches, then goes into the view of the driver.it was about 18 inches that morning and has grown to about 30 inches and a huge fish hook shape in the view of the driver. I went to the dealer and was told it was caused by a stone impact.it was not an impact, i should know, i was driving. The dealer also told me that it was not covered under warranty, even if it is a defective windshield or installation at the factory.with a little research i am seeing a lot of cx-5 owners are reporting similar issues with the windshields cracking for no apparent reason.this is a safety concern the nhtsa needs to investigate.

While driving on highway, my sunroof spontaneously exploded and shattered into multiple pieces.i was not near a bridge, nor driving by a truck. It just shattered spontaneously.
The passenger side mirror folded in by itself while i was driving my mazda 2016 cx-5 on a local city street at about 15 mph. The plastic outside housing of the mirror popped out and fell onto the road.i retrieved the trim pieces of the housing but one piece of trim was cracked.i reinserted the trim and taped up the cracked piece.mazda says it does not sell the replacement piece of trim and wants to replace the whole mirror for a cost of $500.

Hatch lift supports were replace under warranty on 6/5/17 and have failed again talked to dealer and mazda on 11/26/18 they will not replace them.
Liftgate recall by mazda in october 2016 was never completed as "parts not available", but their web site shows this vin as having completed the repair, which is erroneous. This indicates that someone at mazda changed the data to show it as completed when it wasn't completed.
The driver's door on my 2016 mazda cx-5 has a malfunctioning sensor that sometimes indicates the door is closed even when it is open. Since the door could be unlatched without an audible chime sounding, it's possible that an owner could be unaware they are driving with the door open. Thus, this vehicle fails to conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard (fmvss) no. 114, "theft protection and rollaway prevention."
I brought 2016 pre owned certified run 28k only. I drove this car only 7 k but car always has issue with suspension. I reported this issue with my dealer but issue was not resolved.
There was a thumping sound coming from the right front wheel, at slow speeds on a dirt road.when i took the car to the repair shop i was told that the bushings, lower control arms and struts needed to be replaced. I know there is a recall on some of the cars like mine, but apparently mine is not part of the recall. However, i do not think it is a coincidence to have similar problems.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx5. The contact stated that while attempting to inflate the tire on the vehicle, the valve stem fractured. The valve stem was replaced however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to world car mazda north (12115 interstate 35 north bldg. 2, san antonio, tx 78233) where the repair was pending. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 68,000 the vin was not available. *ln
On several occasions since purchase september 15, 2016, the car will intermittently upon applying the brake to stop, accelerate rapidly. If my foot wasn't on the brake i would be propelled into oncoming traffic or possibly into a crosswalk.i have reported this to the dealer where i bought the car and told they could not reproduce this event and all checks of the car were normal. I am afraid to drive the car. The last event was yesterday, may 24, 2020. I have read of other owners of this 2016 grand touring cx-5 mazda to have had the same issue with no action on the part of mazda. This is even after accidents occurred.
I was stopped but did not have the car in park when vehicle lunged forward at high speed. I was in a driveway and hit someone's garage.
I came out to my 1 month old mazda cx-5 this morning to find the contents of my glove box and console strewn about the interior cabin. Clearly the car had been broken into, but there was no sign of forcible entry.i rely on the walk-away lock function to lock my car when i exit the vehicle (as described by the dealer & owner's manual). Later the same morning i tested the autolock after driving the car, and then putting it in park and turning off the engine.i walked away from the car with the keyfob in my handbag and had someone stand next to the front passenger door and check the car door handle -- the car did not lock.i called the service dept at the mazda dealer where i bought the car and they suggested that the autolock might have gotten defeated in the onboard computer settings.i checked the settings as they directed and all of the autolock features were toggled in the on position.the service rep also suggested that the autolock will not function properly if you walk away from the car too quickly.
When reversing out of driveway, going from reverse to drive, the car aggressively goes forward. A jerking forward motion that causes the tires make a brief skid sound. This has happened multiple times.
I was mailed a safety recall notice involving the left gate stay damper concern which poses a potential safety issue.when calling to schedule the repair, mazda does not have the parts to perform the repair and has no timeline as to when the parts will be received.mazda stated "this recall does not pose a safety concern." it clearly states in the recall that the lift gate can drop suddenly and the broken parts may injure people near the vehicle.
A stone from a weed-eater hit my windshield as i was driving (~25 mph) and within 5 miles the crack was already 18 inches.in searching online i noticed a lot of owners mentioned windshield problems and how thin the windshield is.i would have expected a slight chip but not the crack.the temperature was mid 70's.
I am so upset with mazda right now. I have a fully loaded cx-5 grand touring with everything that could be added. However, my navigation had been recalled within the first week and 2 weeks later i had a huge crack on my windshield. This crack is the weirdest thing i have ever seen. My dealer said it had to be a rock, but i parked my car and after school i came out to this really long crack. I have researched this and many of us are all having the same problem. The windshield is on back order and is super expensive. This is crazy and mazda should pay at least half of the price. I have never had so many problems with a car. I have had 5 mazda's and this one is a lemon.
Sunroof suddenly exploded while driving on the freeway. This happened on 4/30 at around 10:30am, 280 southbound about 1/2 mile before the millbrae exit. Suddenly heard a loud bomb noise then found out my sunroof was shattered into many pieces. I had the shade opened about 2 inches, some of the glass pieces got blown into the cabin. One piece of the glass pierce into the armrest. There were no overpass, or large truck around my car when this happened. I could be 100% sure it wasn't hit by any external object. My wife, my 10month old son and i were in the car. If the shade was fully opened, the shattered glass pieces would have got into our face and eyes. Or even seriously injured or kill my 10 months old son. I have found online there are many cases of sunroof exploding. Please nhtsa, you need to do something about this for the safety of the mass and put pressure on the manufacturers to be responsible for this.
Car was parked while at work, came out to find the windshield cracked, right down the middle. No rock chips anywhere to be found. Took it to the dealership they contacted a mazda rep who agreed it was a defect. I was relieved to hear that, but very dissatisfied that the replacement windshield is on back order for a couple months. The windshield is cracked badly enough that i do not feel comfortable letting my pregnant wife drive it. We bought this larger vehicle to fit a baby carrier, now the baby will be here before the windshield. This puts us in a tight spot, we have a brand new vehicle we can not drive. I understand the dealerships not at fault and they were very friendly, and helpful. I am glad they agreed to replace it, but still out of a vehicle for almost 3 months without a rental is crazy.
Liftgate problems, sometimes the liftgate will not open no matter how i try to open it. Other times it opens and jerks up or slams shut. When this happens the vehicle is in park. It happens when its running and it happens when the vehicle is not running. This has been happening over the course of the last 3 years. It started about 1 year after i purchased the car and continues till this day.
When i start the car in the beginning of a cold day, i smell gas all around the car.i found that the car has an incomplete recalls when i entered the vin no., but i called the no. They told me that the car hasn't any recalls.
2016 with less than 900 miles and a month old. Started to hesitate when placing it in drive(automatic transmission). Made a service appointment and before the appointment i stopped at a light and when i stepped on the accelerator it hesitated for approximately 5 seconds before jumping into gear and all warning lights went off and the car went into limp mode. Dealership said that they are replacing the transmission but that will take a while. They said that the mazda techs have never seen this before and want to look at my transmission. Did research on the web and found this has happened before.
Driver side window exploded .i was driving on the highway when i heard a bang like a gunshot and my window went to,pieces.
I was driving at around 45-50 mph when i heard loud pop, and noticed small chip the size of a pencil lead in the top middle of the windshield.then another loud pop and the crack appeared down the middle toward passenger side from the chip.there were no cars around that could've caused the damage (i.e. Debris or construction trucks, etc) and i wasn't going fast enough that could cause the chip and crack that big.never had this kind of experience with prior cars i've owned. Yes, i might have had chips here and there but never cracked so easily like the current one, especially at the speed i was traveling.
Driving on freeway at approximately 63 mph, heat was on in vehicle, all windows closed.very light traffic. Huge explosion in cabin, glass flying all over.i pulled off the freeway, found the sunroof exploded with the sunshade partition open.the glass was protruding upward.no indications of a rock or other item striking the window.we had glass shards in our scalp that we picked out after repeated washings. Our hands were cut trying to clear out the remaining broken glass.no prior problems with the sunroof. The sunroof hadn't been used the day of the explosion.
During the cold weather, the car struggled to start. After starting, the parking brake lights flashed on both the parking brake button and in the dash. The car drove as if the brake was disengaged but the flashing lights continue (parking brake light flashing). A quick google search showed several others with this issue and a website shows this issue also has occurred in the past with other 2016 models that have had recalls (mazda6). So far mazda doesn't seem to have a recall on this issue.
There was a recall ordered october 6, 2016 for faulty lift gate stay dampers (safety recall 9916h, nhtsa campaign no. 16v-644).it has been 8 months and there still is no fix/solution available.why is it taking so long to issue a fix for a recall?there are other recalls for my vehicle and i am waiting for a fix for this one so i can get all the recalls addressed at one time.
The car was parked over the weekend in a very secluded county location (no other people around). I noticed a large crack in the front windshield two days later when i next used the car. There are no visible chips on the glass. The crack spread outward from where the rear view mirror is attached. I believe this is a factory installation or defective part issue.
Anyone can start and steal any new mazdathru this method!assume you're connected using mazda remote - key-fob or mobile. It's registered to your car. So, when you press the button/screen it sends "whatever" to transmitter. Transmitter's input side is coupled exclusively with that item and so transmitter recognizes it as authentic. Now, here's where the security chain breaks. Transmitter's output side, sends a set volt(?), shorts(?), series of signals(?) into the coupler of the car to which it's connected. The white 3-prong connector - passenger side.if ury-rig that coupler and sent the same set of output the car immediately starts upanyone with a decent measuring tool can capture the transmitter's output when its sending by removing the connection from the white jack and connecting it to his/her tool box. Once done, it'll work across all cx(x) series. That's why the remote key-fobs are so expensive @ mazda. They have all the security logic, the transmitter's rather dumb.but: i know after i have remote started the car, as soon as i open the door, the car shuts down. Here however, imposer was already inside the car. So, that security feature he was able to bypass.
Less than 1 year vehicle. Had transmission issue. Won't shift into 1st gear from a stop, or reverse. Can be very dangerous at intersections or stop signs. Had to replace transmission.
Please investiage what is going on here--
Vehicle making front end noise. Mazda ocala charged $100 to diagnose, tighten parts, quoted $845 for additional work recommended by a service notice. Similar to recall 16v-203. Mazda 800-222-5500 states vin not included in recall, vehicle outside of warranty, suggests taking it to another mechanic.
As i was driving along the interstate, the glass on my sunroof exploded.the weather was about 70 degrees outside and the car is typically garaged except for when i drive it.we did not know at first what had happened and it was extremely frightening as the sound was very loud.there was no previous damage to the sunroof--cracks, etc. And it was a factory-installed sunroof.as you will see from the photos, the glass exploded from the inside out.
Twice in 1 year i've had small stones cause a crack in the front windshield. The first crack was caught before it spread and was repaired. Another small stone must have hit my windshield. Today while shopping i returned to myvehicle, that was parked facing a storefront, to see a 14.5 inch crack across the driver's side. The crack obstructs the driver's line of vision. I consider two small stones causing damage unusual. I've been driving over 45 years and have never dad to repair or replace a windshield.
I was driving on the interstate with my husband and our sunroof glass spontaneously shattered. We just heard a really loud bang and all of the sudden, we could hear the wind blowing and our sunroof cover was being forced open. We stopped immediately and found our sunroof broken to pieces. At the time of the incident, the weather was sunny/cloudy and in the 60s. There was no bridge or overhead pass, no big trucks driving nearby us. The environment outside was flat, dry lands.
I parked my 2 month old cx-5 in the garage, came out the next morning and the windshield was cracked, by the time i got to work the crack had spread, within 3 days it was half way across the windshield. I took it to 2 different glass replacement companies and 1 body shop and all 3 places said the crack was body frame related, i.e. Not my fault. I took it the mazda dealership i purchased it from and they said it was my problem and that it would be not covered under warranty or it would cost $750 to replace. To make it more of an inconvience there are only 3 or 4 places you can get he factory windshields from and they are on the east coast on back order (might have a problem there) for a month.
Purchased new 2016 madacx5 in april 2015. Wife was pulling into the garage and was about stopped when it lunged forward striking the back wall of the garage. Car was moving at less than a mile per hour with her foot on the brake.damage done to vehicle and garage. Took it to the dealer, who kept the vehicle and drove and monitored it for a week. They found no problem. Mazda told me to return my loaner and pick up my vehicle. I told them it was unsafe. They will give me a deal on a new vehicle. I was outside when my wife entered the garage and witnessed the incident.
I was driving down the highway at approximately 65 mph when i heard a loud explosion followed by the sound of broken glass. I immediately pulled over and discovered that the sunroof had exploded.there were no other vehicles nearby when the sun roof exploded and i did not see or find any objects that may have caused the glass to break. The remaining parts of the sunroof were directed outward from the vehicle, indicating that it had exploded outward. It was a hot day (90+ degrees) and the ac was on in the vehicle. And when the sunroof broke there was a very loud explosive sound. It is also interesting to note the the glass was completely shattered into small pieces, many of which fell into the cabin.
At ~26,000 miles my driver side daytime running lights have failed.
About 10% of the time, the "walk away" automatic door lock feature fails to work and the vehicle remains unlocked.the issue seems to be that the sensors don't detect that the door(s) has been closed, and the system fails to engage as normally indicated by an audible beep upon door closure.this is not due to the doors not being closed fully.opening and reclosing any door (sometimes twice) activates the system.unfortunately we don't always realize that the system didn't function correctly and return to an unlocked car.this has been occurring since the vehicle was purchased, but the dealer couldn't find a problem upon inspection.
As i was driving to work, the moonroof window exploded causing glass to fly every where. Thankfully, i had my sunshade closed so no glass came into the vehicle. Had it been open, i would have been hit by glass shards. There had been no damage to the moonroof window previously, no cracks or issues that i was aware of. While attempting to get it repaired, i was told that this had happened on the same type of vehicle one other time that the shop was aware of.i am currently waiting to hear back from mazda regarding replacement/repair for the moonroof.
On march 1, 2020, my wife was driving straight south on rt. 41 (tamiami highway) in north port, florida when all of a sudden she heard an 'explosion' that startled her. It was the sunroof that exploded for no apparent reason on our 2016 mazda cx-5 purchased in september 28, 2015 and currently with 62,000+ miles on it. Fortunately, the underlying sunroof panel was closed, so none of the glass fragments ended up in her face/arms/chest, which, if happened, could have also caused an accident.
I brought my vehicle to mazda at sansone rt 1 automall avenel, nj 732-587-1100 to have the steering wheel problem addressed. This is the second time this is happening since having bought this vehicle brand new. The replaced the steering wheel for the same issue last year. Since the replacement one was installed, the wheel is peeling again. This is a leased vehicle and i am concerned that i will be fined on the return part at the end of the agreement. I do not wear rings, i am not married, and i do not use cheap soap/hand cream because they asked me if i do any of those things.it is peeling in the same spot and gets worse over time from normal wear and tear of turning the wheel. I believe this is a manufacture defect and it has not gained enough attention yet or other consumers may not realize this is a problem.mazda corporate was at my dealer when this was looked at on the 16th and gave me the response notated in the third picture attached. I do love my mazda. I enjoy the vehicle. I just want a solution to this steering wheel problem so it can be normal like all the other parts of my car.i keep my vehicle clean and well kept.this has never happened to me with a leather steering wheel, and i also have a 2016 kia forte with a leather steering wheel that does not have the same issue like my mazda does. Please help if you can, thank you in advance!!
At 38,000 miles the ac went out, would not blow cold air. Had it investigated, and th systems needed a refresh. Dye was used to determine what may be leaking, none found.however a year later same issue- confirmed through tsbs that mazda evaporators had poor brazing and could develop slow leaks. That is the case with this car, and now the compressor has failed, likely due to low coolant levels from the leak. Mazda not willing to support this issue.
I was stopped but did not have the car in park when vehicle lunged forward at high speed. I was in a driveway and hit someone's garage.
Sudden acceleration turning left pulling into a parking spot.foot on brake/off of accelerator, cruise control off, slowly pulling in.accelerated enough to jump curb onto sidewalk.able to break just about three feet short of brick building.car at dealership for several days.technicians unable to recreate or discover problem.

2 incidents of sudden acceleration while making a right hand turn into parking spaces first on 5/18/17 and second on 12/15/17. The air bags deployed the first time but not the second time. The insurance company is ordering an engineer investigate since it occurred on 2 separate occasions
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. While parking the vehicle with the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle accelerated and crashed into a tree. A police report was filed and there were no injuries. The air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where no failures were found. The approximate failure mileage was 14,000.

Glass cracked from top, middle portion of windshield glass, no apparent sign of rock chip.spread immediately into viewing area.concern for overall safety and integrity of glass.advised by dealer to contact insurance, advised by insurance it's a $500 deductible.online research has led me to believe that this is a manufacturer defect as it has high numbers of complaints.
The windshield easily chips and cracks. There have been numerous complaints about this issue and mazda seems to do nothing about it. It is only a matter of time before someone gets hurt or dies.
I recently bought a used 2016 mazda cx-5.five days later, i went to get in it after work (not a hot day) and found a crack running from under the top seam straight down and then feathering out. No impact damage. Parked in a secured lot. It didn't look right, so i looked up mazda windshields and found out others had the same issue.i found the crack distracting as i drove, especially if i needed to look over to the right side.took my car to mazda the following day. They agreed it looked strange, but said they were unaware of any windshield issues. And yet i found many others on line had the same issue.
Car had a total of 145 miles, only driven 4 days since new and there is a large crack in the windshield, on the passengers side starting at the very top and extendingdown past the rear view mirror and curved toward the center.no rock hit or chips caused this.
My 7 month 2016 cx 5 with 15,000 miles was parked at work. When i got in my car to go home, my windshield had a large crack down the middle from the top spreading out on both driver & passenger sides into the viewing area like a spider web. It started right where theblack plastic housing is for the tech pkg sensors behind the mirror. I stopped at techniglass on my way home & damon checked it out & said there was no sign of a rock chip, it was a stress crack and it should be covered under factory warranty & that he has seen it a lot on cx-5's. Also told me the windshields were on back order & they cost $1100. The following day i took it to dahle mazda in slc for 15,000 mile service & showed them the crack & asked them to replace it under the factory warranty. They came back & told me they did fine point pen trick & there were two rock chips & it is not warrantable. I showed them techniglass note showing there were no rock chips & their diagnosis of a stress crack. Asked for the service manager & shared this info & 30+ complaints from online nhtsa & mazda247.com websites confirming the defect with other cx 5 owners.made him document their refusal to replace on my service record & told him it was unacceptable & that i was going to file a complaint with mazda usa & nhtsa. He said he would also check with mazda usa to see if he could do anything & that he would call me back'..he never did.i also learned that techniglass and other 3rd party windshield replacement companies cannot get these replacement ws from their suppliers, they must order them direct from the mazda dealer, which i find concerning.this is clearly a manufacturers defect & needs to be addressed by mazda usa.
Front passenger window completely shattered when driving on the highway.no apparent rock or debris hit the window before the glass completely disintegrated.a loud bang was heard as the glass shattered from the center.unsure as to longevity / durability of the mazda oem glass windows as car model is relatively new.so far have not had any other issues with the other windows of the car.the tempered glass, however, did shatter as correctly designed, no injuries.
Second time windshield cracked (more than dollar size) and needed replacement in less than six months of owning vehicle. Vehicle was stationary/parked on driveway first time and was in motion on city street second time. None were caused by car accidents or objects, such as rocks, hitting the windshield.
There was a large crack on my front windshield that spanned from the driver's side to the passenger side. When i went to locate the possible point of the crack i couldn't locate one. I took my vehicle to an windshield repair shop to get it replaced and was told that this was a stress crack that is pretty common in mazda cx-5's.
Only got my car for a month :( as i was driving on the freeway notice the windshield cracked started from the top middle where the rare mirror is. The crack is now longer and longer day by day.maybe got hit by a tiny tiny little rock but the dot of the hit was so small that it could hardly be seen.i believe that it's cheap windshield that mazda is using.all the bs how safety this car is......
Windshield cracked when driving at highway speed with no immediate traffic in the area. Crack occurred during morning transition from cool temperatures to about 20 degree warmer. Heard a small pop and then saw the crack grow until it extended from the frame to about half way across the passenger side. If the the crack was caused by an impact the rock or debris was incredibly small as there is only a slight depression in one part of the crack.
I've only had my mazda for 2 months and noticed a crack originating from the bottom of the windshield. It occurred after a hot day coupled with a cold night so i suspect there was a small crack that happened when i leased the car and it grew due to weather conditions. I've read that there are tons of similar incidences with this vehicle and its concerning (especially since the replacement is $1,000).
During daylight hours, the chrome around the vents reflects onto the side windows. This causes a distraction, making it very difficult to look into the side mirrors. I contacted mazda about this, they do not appear to plan to do anything about it. Nothing yet has happened to me about this, but i am concerned that it might happen to me or someone else. An easy fix would be to replace the shiny chrome trim with a darker trim. I attached some pictures to show this. The pictures do not show exactly how bad it is, but it will show that there is a problem.
I have a new 2016 mazda cx 5 grand touring. I am about to have to get my windshield replaced for the second time due to it cracking. The first occurance happened while i was driving on the freeway. I heard a "crack" and looked over and noticed a shatter like crack on the passenger side the size of a silver dollar that quickly cracked out to the middle of my windshield. The windshield was on back order due to none being in stock. I had to drive around for 2.5 months with a cracked windshield until one finally became available. The second time it occurred was about three days ago. I had just parked my car in the garage and went inside for a few minutes and came back out to grab some things and noticed a crack on the drivers side on the brand new windshield i had just paid to get replaced about 2 months ago. There is a small chip in the glass, however, i feel like if a rock or something did hit my windshield, the glass should not crack that easily. I have owned previous vehicles where rocks have hit the windshield with no issues at all.i have read that many other cx5 owners have had windshield issues as well which makes me think there must be some type of manufacture defect. It is definitely a safety issue since the windshield is the only front protection between the driver and the road.
Driving on the interstate. Driver plus 3 passengers, fair amount of luggage. Listening to a book on cd. Windows up, air-conditioning on. Driving 70 mph smooth road. No cars in immediate vicinity. Suddenly there is a loud bang which scared the crap out of me. Pulled off the roadway to see what had happened.turned out the moon roof had exploded. Fortunately the inside cover was closed otherwise the occupants would have been shredded by a glass grenade.
The car was parked over the weekend in a very secluded county location (no other people around). I noticed a large crack in the front windshield two days later when i next used the car. There are no visible chips on the glass. The crack spread outward from where the rear view mirror is attached. I believe this is a factory installation or defective part issue.
Was driving to work when i heard a succession of loud popping noises coming from the windshield area.as i was on a divided interstate with no vehicles in front or beside me, it was a bit strange that i had two cracks appear in the center of my windshield and another one running from the bottom right side of the windshield under the wiper blade. I pulled over immediately to see if there was anyone around because it was clearly not caused by another vehicle. I phoned the sheriff's department to report the incident, as i was unsure what had happened.a deputy met me at work (18 miles from where the incident happened) to look at the damage, the latter of which now stretched about 4 inches past the center of the windshield, and told me that the area where i was driving had been checked immediately by officers, that there was no one in the area, and that no other complaints had been reported. Even the officer was baffled by the unexplainable occurrence of the breaks, especially since there were no other vehicles either in front, behind, or beside me for as far as i could see (long, flat stretch of interstate, so visibility was excellent). The vehicle had less than 16000 miles on it when this happened.
The contact owns a 2016 mazda cx-5. While driving 65 mph, the front windshield shattered. The contact called a local dealer (john hine mazda, 1545 camino del rio south st, san diego, ca 92108) and was informed to schedule a service appointment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and referred the contact to the local dealer and nhtsa. The failure mileage was approximately 14,000.
2016 cx5 developed spontaneous stress fracture in windshield running from top right edge of screen across to middle of glass. It was not being driven at the time, nothing hit the windshield, it just cracked.
The vehicle was parked in a driveway when a basketball bounced off the hood of the car and then hit the windshield. There was no damage to the hood but when the basketball hit the windshield it shattered the right top side of the windshield.
Purchased 2016 mazda cx-5 in june 2015. Within two weeks, cracked windshield. Two months later, second cracked windshield. Two months after that, cracked windshield. Two months after that, cracked windshield. Now...another two months later, i will be on my 4th windshield. When these crack, they create high glare and blinding moments when sun or headlights catch that crack. There is a manufacturing or design issue with this product. And also an accompanying safety issue.i only noticed these cracks after the vehicle had been sitting. Recourse?
While driving to work on a clear day without any influence from an outside source, ie: rock/debris, a crack formed on passenger side of my front windshield. It originated from the very bottom/base of windshield and is currently about 20" long - almost to exact middle of window. The car has less than 3000 miles on it. It is a 2016.5 year. I took delivery of car on feb. 13.
A small chip was on found on the front of the windshield and i was notified by the dealer that the chip was small and that they the repair would fix it with resin. The next day a crack around 18 inches formed along the windshield. . after the crack was formed they stated they weren't responsible for the windshield after the repair. This is a defect in the quality of the windshield mazda won't hold themselves responsible for. This new windshield has been quoted for $500 to replace.
After one month of ownership, a crack developed in the windshield from the top, center. The crack extended down to the center of the windshield creating a large oblong oval. There is no evidence of being hit by road debris. The mazda service center confirmed this and declared it a manufacturer defect. It has been over 5 weeks and i am still waiting for the replacement windshield to arrive. The issue appears to be rampant enough that new windshields are back ordered with no indication of when it will be available.
On multiple occasions, when temperatures are 25 f or lower and it is snowing or raining it is impossible to keep the windshield clear of ice. While driving at normal speeds 25 to 50 mph on local roads and highways, the snow would melt on contact with the windshield, refreeze, and the wipers would freeze solid and not make contact with the windshield over the majorityof the windshield. I had to stop every several minutes and use a scraper to remove the windshield ice to see safely. This condition makes for very difficult and dangerous winter precipitation driving. The only chance of of getting minimal viewing area was to keep the function selector on full defrost, the temperature selector on full heat and the fan on high.this was still a losing battle and extremely uncomfortable in the vehicle.the fan noise is incredibly loud, the wipers are loaded with ice and thumping on the windshield and your face gets ridiculously hot because on the defrost function more air is directed back at the side windows than is directed at the windshield.what an extremely poor design and function of a basic defrost system. Even during cold weather with no precipitation the poor function of the defrost system cannot keep the windshield free of fogging over unless the selectors are set on full fan, heat and defrost. Now we have to live with a car that should be a great, safe all wheel drive, all weather vehicle in new england that can't handle defrosting the windshield during our winters.
2016 cx-5 is less than a year old and already on its third windshield. The filed complaint list for this car is just one cracked windshield after another and definitely needs to be investigated further.
On multiple occasions, when temperatures are 25 f or lower and it is snowing, it is impossible to keep the windshield clear of ice.while driving at normal speeds 25 to 50 mph on local roads and highways, the snow would melt on contact with the windshield, refreeze, and the wipers would freeze solid and not make contact with the windshield over a large part of the glass directly in front of the driver and front seat passenger's eyes.no change was noted when the car was idling at stop signs or red lights.we had to stop every several minutes and use a scraper to remove the windshield ice to see safely.this condition makes for very difficult and dangerous winter precipitation driving.ironically,we bought this all-wheel vehicle mainly for just this type of driving in snowy mountain areas where we drive frequently.the car was taken to the dealer and inspected under warranty.the technician inspected the defroster and wipers and said everything was working properly and there is nothing they can do to improve the situation.we don't know what to do as the care does not preform under the exact winter conditions we primarily bought it for.
My allstate rep told me that i have 4 recalls
After two months of ownership the windshield cracked due to a rock strike. The windows was replaced with an oem windshield. Three months later the windshield cracked randomly without any damage (rock etc)
2 weeks old vehicle windshield cracked after parked in the sun for 3 hours.
My 2016 cx-5 was parked in my driveway when i noticed a crack in the middle of my windshield starting at the bottom under the seal and going up and to the left.there was no crack when i parked it.i took it to the dealer where i bought it and had the warranty mechanic and a salesman look at it,they found not sign of impact.they advised me to take to the mazda dealer for the factory warranty.i took it to the mazda dealer and after numerous gouges with a fine point pen in the middle of the crack the service manager says no look there is a rock chip so it is not covered under the factory warranty. I also pointed out that there was an air bubble in another part of the windshield which is obviously a factory defect and he said that it didn't matter because there was a sign of impact not anywhere close to the crack the factory warranty would not cover it
On 2 january 2016, while travelling northbound on interstate 880,at approximately 3 pm, approaching the hegenberger exit. I heard a a "crack sound", followed by another "crack sound", at which time the crack became visible.glass crack emanating from passenger side windshield edge towards the center of the vehicle, approximately 14 inches in length.

2016 mazda cx5. Consumer writes in regards to shattered window on vehicle. *ldthe consumer requested to be reimbursed for the damages caused by the window shattering.
While driving on the highway, we noticed a crack that began at the bottom center of our new cx-5's windshield.there had been no impact by a rock or anything else.it began at the very edge of the windshield, and went upwards.we were on a weekend trip, and there was no nearby mazda dealer.over the miles the straight crack grew into question mark shape about 10" high.arriving at our destination, the dealer claimed there was a tiny impact mark exactly underneath the wiper blade.i was not able to see anything except the crack, and i know there was no impact of any type.this was a friday, and the dealer said the glass couldn't be there until the following week -- by which time we would have returned home -- so we drove home a couple of days later and spoke with the dealer who sold us the car [note that it was about 3 weeks old -- practically new].our dealer [north point mazda, in sherwood ar] also claims there is an invisible impact mark.of course, with an impact, they avoid all responsibility.looking at this database, there seem to be a lot of people in the same situation as mine -- new cx-5 owners developing a mystery cracked windshield.this is expensive glass -- it has sensors for the wipers, etc.and now the glass is on backorder, so will take a month to arrive!over the miles the crack has grown in size, and has also branched out.i wonder when my new vehicle actually becomes unsafe to drive?mazda says it's not their problem, and their service manager and general manager have both declined to even return my call.clearly they aren't proponents of service after the sale!hopefully the rest of the car holds up better -- we really like it except for the giant, multi-branch windshield crack that we now have to live with for another month!of course, north point mazda won't be getting any more of my business....updated 07-16-15updated 9/21/2015
