While braking abruptly the brake pedal went to the floor and the vehicle continued to move.as a result the driver rear ended another vehicle.neither of the frontal air bags deployed.the driver was not hurt.the vehicle was towed to a body shop for repairs.
Consumer states that air bag light illuminated.the vehicle was taken to the dealer.the dealer advised that the air bag was no longer operative "possibly" due to failure of the vehicle's clockspring. Mr *jg
I have had a head gasket replace on this 1998 mazda b4000 within 61,000 miles. The first head gasket replacement was 1-21-2008. Now the same thing seems to be happening at 78,100 miles are there any issues with this model? i only drive the truck to work and back which is only about 5 miles from my home.also the front end suspension makes a loud squeaking/popping noise when you turn the steering wheel or hit a rough place in pavement. The "key in the ignition" buzzer keeps dinging after you take the key out of the ignition.
The air bag indicator light on my dashboard stayed lit, indicating a problem.i immediately took the vehicle to brown's mazda @ 7400 richmond highway in alexandria, va on 9/9/1999.they ran the truck through numerous diagnostic tests until informing me that the wiring harness had a short in it, and would need to be replaced.they further indicated that the harness was not a part of the manufacturer's 60,000 mile warranty on safety equipment.i said that it was the air bag that was showing up as malfunctioning, therefore, it was an airbag or safety related item.they only agreed to replace the part, but i would be responsible for the 6 hours of labor.i noticed from tsb#97-24-14, nov 97 that the wire harness terminal repair kit was a recall problem for the 1998 ford ranger pick-up.my 1999 mazda pickup and the ford ranger are essentially identical vehicles.my question is, has there been a lot of problems with the wiring harness, vis a vis, the air bag system on 1998 mazda pickup trucks?i've only had the vehicle 18 months, and i admit, i've put on a lot of miles (59,624 at time of the malfunction), however, i find it strange that the harness goes out right around the magic 60,000 warranty mark.
Throttle sticks wide open on my 1998 mazda b2500 truck. Only recourse is to turn engine off to slow down. Have had it in to mazda shop twice for this problem. First time under warranty, could not find the problemsecond time, mazda says not covered under warranty, even though they had a tsb for this problem.i don't want to be a fatal statistic, because of yet another vehicle manufacturers failure to act.

The contact owns a 1998 mazda b2500.while driving 50 mph and attempting to decelerate, the contact must place the vehicle into neutral and then turn off the ignition.the vehicle's engine overpowers the brakes.the contact feels that this is a safety issue because the vehicle should be stopped by applying the brakes.in addition, the throttle sticks and remains open.the brake failure has been occurring for the last eight years.the vehicle has been taken to the repair shop three times regarding the failure, but no failure was identified.the failure mileage was 35,000.
B4000 truck continuously overheats. Thermostats have been replace 4 times.truck has been worked on by certified mechanics at ford dealership.2002 truck overheated. There was coolant in the overflow bottle but none in the radiator.radiator leaked and head gasket was blown.i replaced radiator and heads.2004 repeat of same incident occured.
Two incidents of engine failure within 2 miles of home. Both occurred immediately after pulling away from a traffic light or stop sign. Truck experiences wide excursions in rpms, accompanied by by check engine light on the downward swings. Within 5 to 8 seconds engine shuts down, resulting in loss of power steering, brakes, etc. Attempts to restart immediately after incident fail. Cranking of engine is normal, however no start. Both incidents result in towing, after which the truck starts normally, with no codes entered in the computer.
While stopped at a traffic light vehicle stalled.ocurred intermitently following that incident.*ml
No summary listed for above vehicle.
When driving long distances vehicle will stall when coming to a stop.
After fuelingthere is a strong fuel smell inside vehicle.
The interior light flickered on and off intermittently.interior lights also stay illuminated when the doors are closed.*mr
Door switch that controls interior lights stays on.light interferes with driving and runs down battery. Three times the switch has been changed in the past three years. Dealer has been notified. *jg
The interior light stays on as a result of reading the door ajar.this will be the third time that i've had to fix this.
The emergency brake lines are crossed ahead of the rear drivers tire.there is a lot of pressure on these lines and they are rubbing together causing a great deal of wear.i have noticed the same problem on other mazda b series and ford ranger pickups.i have placed a piece of rubber between the lines to prevent further damage.i believe that the emergency lines on the mazda and ford ranger pickups should be recalled before they fail and cause injuries.
Four wheel drive system engaged on it's own, causing severe left turns as front wheel locks up. Has happened three times, even thou fixed twice. There is no locking hub conversion available for this model or the ford ranger it's clone. Will not drive this on snow or ice covered roads. Four wheel drive system consistently does not engage when you want it to. Truck built by ford.
Had pushed clutch onway in andthen released it.to engage, clutch pedal would come almost allway back before starting or moving vehicle. Had taken vehicle to 4 different dealerships. At two dealerships, mechanics indicated no problem. Atother 2, mechanics indicatedclutch was bad, and would need to replace or repairentire system.
While the driver's foot was pressing the clutch, the plastic cover ripped off and caused the driver's foot to release the clutch. As a result the vehicle rear ended another vehicle. Both themanufacturer and the dealership were contacted. *nlm
The problem i experienced with my vehicle was sporadic.the clutch pedal would not depress and i was unable to get my vehicle into any gear.it did not matter how fast i was going or what gear i was shifting to.in order to get my vehicle into gear i had to shut the engine off, then shift into gear and restart the engine.this happened to me in traffic and on the highway.when this occurred i was unable to move my vehicle and was afraid that another vehicle would hit me.my vehicle has since been repaired per service bulletin 002/98 but i feel that due to the potential danger that a recall should be considered.thank you.
Truck shudders 4 to 5 times coming to a complete stop and taking off from a complete stop all the time and occasionally also shudders in 2nd gear[truck is an automatic]. This has occurred since the 1st day i picked up the truck. It has been back to 2 different mazda dealers after i had the transmission checked by an independent shop which gave the truck a clean bill of health and then took to independent shop for a diagnostic check where they found the problem to be the driveshaft. With this info i went back to mazda where they regreased and repacked the driveshaft. The problem continues. I called the repair shop after i picked up the truck and told them the truck was still doing the same only now worse. I was told that they called in the dsm for the area mazda dealers and he stated this was a "characteristic" of all the b4000 series and nothing more would be done. I have the extended warranty of 6yr/100,000 and if i take the truck for repair by other than mazda then i will ify this warranty. I don't know what else to do. The problem is very annoying especially in any stop and go traffic[city driving inparticular] all i want to do is have the truck fixed. Any info or help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Vehicles rear brakes have locked up from time to time when they are cold or wet.vehicle was taken in to repair shop, and was told they were aware of the problems these vehicles were having.*jg
I took my mazda pick up truck to 3 different aoutomotive shops, all 3 said the rotors are defective. The rotorsshould not need replaced at this mileage. The rotors put deep grooves in the pads.

I own a 1998 mazda pickup, 2500 model. It has always been a florida vehicle. I did a front end suspension check, and found all 4 ball joints with deep rust, no rubber seals left other than brittle and cracked remains of the rubber boot around the joints. The rubber bushings on the front stabilizer assembly were also either totally disintegrated or missing.the mechanic told me the condition had been present for some time, the ball joints were badly worn, and catastrophic failure would have occurred within months. This vehicle was built by ford. I believe the quality and durability of the rubber boots protecting these vital parts was defective. According to some others i have discussed this with, rotted boots are not uncommon. In the past i have kept vehicles for over 20 years without any problem with ball joint and steering knuckles grease covers.request this be investigated as a manufactures defect. Thanksin view of the potential for accidents, this needs followup.
A tire separation/blisting from inside of the sidewall on a 1998 mazda b-series truck, aftermarket equipment. Firestone notified. The failed tire was firestone wilderness ht.the tire was slowly going flat and showed bubbles from inside wall when the customer pulled over and inspected the vehicle.the right side door step moulding cracked.

With 80k on the truck the leaf spring mounts had become oxidized to the point of failure. When this happened my spring came through my bed. There is no body rust, or bed rust. After reading forums i am not the only one with the problem. With 90k on the truck the frame rust through and cracked. There was never a large problem with frame rust before 98 as i have two bronco it's. Ford must have changed steel because there are plenty of guys puzzled with the same problem. Thank you for your timestanley shaffer

During the first year of ownership, i had two tire failures.both were sidewall separations, occcurring at low highway speed, with no visible cause on the road.these tires weren't warranted, and since the other two were almost new, to match them up, i had to buy 2 new ones from a firestone dealer.since then i have had no more problems with the tires, but i felt that firestone should have warranted their tires against failure, and there was complete failure along the sidewalls.. I contacted the dealership, and they said there wasn't anything they could do.( dot number: tire size: p225/70r15 )
With the latest reports of the firestone tires the models listed with problems did not include the mazda trucks. I am on my second set of those tires and my vehicle has but 51k miles.the first set resulted in a blowout at 65mph at 29k miles and the new ones that replaced those have only 22k miles and are in the same shape as the first.no blow out this time just scooped and pitted/worn tires that vibrate.the mazda nad ford rangers are the same vehicle so please include the mazdas in your report.i'm mad as hell about this.( dot number: )
Front tires began cupping after four or five months. All tires cupped after rotation. Very heavy vibration and "thumping" of vehicle. Dealer blamed tires. Firestone blamed front suspension of mazda/ford trucks. Neither would take responsibility. (dot number: w2uu1p0078tiresize: p225/70r15)
Tread completely separated from tire casing, damaging fender area in the process.vehicle became very difficult to control but i was able to come to a stop without hitting anything.tire still had air in it but was completely minus the tread. Tires has been checked recently and were found to be free of defects and correctly inflated.the failed tire showed no signs of external diress and was still inflated to 32 pounds.( dot number: unknown tire size: p225/70r15 )
These tires need to be included in the recall!!i had a blow out (left front) at 65mph at 24k miles.the other front tire was gouged and cracked.i replaced these tires with 2 more firestone p225/70r15s and 25k miles later both front tires were again gouges and cracked.i had those replaced 2 dadys prior to the other recall announcement.from the news reports i have seen and from comparing my tires to others, they look the same damage wise as the ones being recalled.there is no reason anyone should go through 2 sets of tires in 50k miles.please continue to look further into this problem.it is not just isolated to the tires currently under investigation.( dot number: w2uuipo248 tire size: p225/70r15 )
Fyi: these tires show same symtoms as recalled "at" & "atx" - but i'm told they're not part of recall - i have one that is severly out of balance, especially on hot days( dot number: 02 7532 tire size: 255 70r15 )

Pe00020; while driving approximately 60 mph rear passenger's side tiretread had separated.firestone, wilderness ht tires,p225/70r15.tire waspurchased with vehicle. Vehicle is mazda truck, b2500 1998. Driver's side rear tire is also experiencing splitting.the tire is defective.the tread separated and ripped.there is split on the left rear also.

While driving the truck started to make a strange noise coming from the front.i pulled over got out of the vehicle and check the front.what i found was that half the top surface of the tire was gone showing bare metal.the tire still had air in it.this same tire was in excellent condition that same day.( dot number: tire size: p23575r15 )
Tread of tires came off new mazda pickup twice within two weeks on right front and left front tires.when asked if tires were defective at firestone dealership i was told the tires were not defective that they came apart due to my driving on them while flat.interesting to see now that i was right and they were wrong.i had seen flats before but never an entire tire come apart.( dot number: )
Tire tread completely separated from the casing of the tire without any warning.tires had been inspected and rotated just 1,000 miles earlier and no problems were found.the sudden lose of the tire tread and resulting loss of control caused the vehicle to spin and hit the center divider of the freeway.( dot number: unknown tire size: p225/70r15 )
Pe00-020; firestone wilderness ht, original tires for 1998 mazda, b2000, 36,000 miles. Driving at approximately 40 mph andleft front tire treadcame flying off, causing a loss of control. Seconds prior to incident, consumer felt a slight wobble in the steering.
Have erratic speed speedometer goes up and down as i'm driving can fill power of vehicle goes up and down. Also gas mileage has went from 20 miles to the gallon too 10 mpg. Replaced the speed sensor but didn't help
I have a 98 mazda which is made by ford....vin sticker on the door states such. Same as 98 ranger. Both of my rear leaf spring shackles have rusted off so severely that they went through the bed of the truck. The rear end of the frame is rotting off and the spare tire support and tire as well. The truck only has 66,000 miles and runs great. This is a safety issue as my rear bumper could fall off, the spare tire could fall off, and the frame already broke letting the leaf springs go right through the bed. I have read numerous complaints about ford rangers having the same issue and being a danger to not only the person driving the vehicle and its occupants, but also the following cars when the bumper falls off and spare tire too.
Vehicles throttle stick open when released. Cannot slow vehicle down. Only way to slow down is to turn ignition off. Manufacturer said they are aware and had tsb on this during warranty. Took it in and they said they found no problem. Took it in twice since for same problem and they say i now need to pay for the repair.when this situation happens, there is no control of the speed of this vehicle.. Even stepping on brakes doesn't help. I have reported this 3 times to you prior, but with the toyota problems, i thought you might be more interested in this now. I am also reporting this problem to the local news media, along with a copy of this report.
Recall # 99v062000 ford/speed control cable: dealer does not have parts available to correct recall. Owner received recall notice 3 months ago.this is truck is owed by bissell badcock mill work.
The engine will race to 3000 rpm while stopped at an intersection - also rpm's while rise without application of the gas pedal - potential problem - unable to stop when needed
Throttle sticks at between 2500-3500 rpm. Only way to stop it is to turn engine off and restart.
The contact owns a 1998 mazda b4000. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign id number: 99v062002 (vehicle speed control) and contacted the dealer to secure an appointment for recall repairs however, the parts needed to complete the recall repairs had not yet become available. The contact stated that neither the manufacturer nor the dealer informed the contact when or if the parts had become available. The contact called the manufacturer and the manufacturer stated that the recall was closed. The vehicle was never serviced under the recall. The mileage was 181,823. The contact had not experienced a failure.
1998 mazda b2500 se extended cab: problems with engine idle speed during idle situations (e.g., stop sign, stoplight, garage start) w/ clutch disengaged; engine revs from 1000 rpm to 3000 rpm and then quickly back down to 1000 rpm.this is dangerous because it could be a potential root cause of an accident.
When pressing clutch vehicle rpmsare erratic. Has to shut vehicle down at highway speed to brake. Vehicle throttle races out of control. Dealer contacted.
Would like to know why the 89 madza b-2500 was not included in the cruise control switch. This model was made by ford along withthe ranger pickups with the sameproblems. They replaced the cruise control cable when the recall was open.
When vehicle come to a stop sign it doesn't stop. Vehicle will accelerate without pushing on gas pedal. Also, has to take vehicle out of gear to get vehicle to stop.
Mazda recall letter said to take vehicle to closest dealer for free repair work stating dealers had parts to make my truck safe. Dropped truck off for repair on oct 9, 2008 at around 4:00pm. Was told i could pick up my truck on the 10th at around the same time. Took the next day off from work to be available when the dealer called to pick up my truck. At around 3:00pm on the 10th, i received a message to call the dealer. Since i was told to be at the dealers at 4:00pm, i wasn't near my phone when the message was received. At around 4:15pm i arrived to pick up my truck. I was told the parts were not available and could i make another appointment. I told the service rep the recall letter said the dealers had the parts to complete the job. He then said when the truck was brought into the shop, there were no parts to do the job. I said " you've had my truck for 24 hours and it's still not repaired."i'm very unhappy with mazda's handling of this situation and hope something can be done to correct this.
I have heard that ford has been having problems with their cruise control switches. I have a 1998 mazda 2500 pickup, so my truck may have some of the some problems. Last year the cruise control "on" and "off" buttons on the steering wheel, which are back lit, became very hot when the headlights were on, regardless of the cruise control being engaged or not. The control lights have since burned out. This is a minor inconvenience if it is only a burned out light. If this is a part of a larger electrical problem i would like to know and if others have had this problem. Thank you.
Engine stalls and idle is unstable while at stoplight. Loses power when driving
Dt: consumerwas pulled over for the brake lights not working. He changed the fuse. When changing the fuse he noticed smoke, and fluid was leaking from the switch. The switchwas corroded. There was no prior warning. The dealer had not looked at the vehicle.the consumer stated he experienced the same problem with the cruise control switch as stated in the ford recall even though his vehicle is not a ford, however ford did manufacturer the vehicle. Updated 12/07/05.
Passenger side rear-door quarter-glass was struck by a stone which totally shattered into small pieces (splinter too) the quarter-glass.this incident based on the size of the mark left, only left a small (pencil head size) chip on a normal winshield.how can mazda/ford produce b400 and rangers wigh dirrerent standard glass than nhtsa approved.
