Dome lightwill not go off. With the dome light on at night,driver is not able to see outside of the cab. This problemwas intermittent at first, beginning in april of 1998.dealer has been contacted 4 times about the problem.however, dealer has not attempted to look at the vehicle.wipers go on and off with out the driver's action.the air bag failed to deploy during head on collision and the driver sustained permanent injuries.
Consumerwas traveling about 45mph on the highway and it was raining outsidethere was another vehicle ahead without a signal on.consumer vehicle veered into it.after the fact, it hit the windshield, anddriver airbag went off.however,passenger side airbag didn't go off.
1997 mazda pickup caught fire while parked. The consumer was informed the fire may have been a result of sticking contacts in the electrical system. Updated 08/28/07.
Vehicle has experienced two separate incidents of ignition switch failure, first incident was due to frayed wiring vehicle only had 250 miles. *mjs

A loud noise occurs in the engine compartment and becomes louder as the vehicle heats up. Dealer has not been able to diagnose the problem.please give any further details.

Abs light comes on intermittently.vehicle has been taken to several dealers.the dealers can not find a problem with the abs system.if vehicle is stalled an then restarted, abs light will go off.check engine light comes on intermittently.vehicle has been take to 3 dealers.there is no problem.light seems to come on more often when vehicle is warm.when windshield wipers are turned off, occasionally they will start operating at the highest speed.takes several tries of turning them on and then off again to make them stop.front end of vehicle shakes excessively when going down hills and braking.cracks were found in the catalytic converter when vehicle was purchased in february of 1999.dome light comes on and stays on.problem is remedied by removing the fuse for the dome light over night and then replacing the next morning.
This problem is also in the ford rangers, muffler and shield rattles together
Interior light stays on day or night, blinds driver, also rear outside light stays on blinds drivers behind truck
At inspection station meyer & sons, 62 sheffield road, egremont, ma 01258: directional lights check; bumpers/fenders check both failed; there is a crack in the driver side rear tail light dome, which does not affect the operation of any lights. There is a large rust spot in the driver side rear wheel well. We do not believe a cracked light globe and rust holes should fail the truck inspection!!!
Upon filling mazda 1997 b-2300 truck with gas noticed a stream of fuel leaking under the gas tank inches away from exhaust.this is a very serious fire hazard and want to know what can be done.

Dome lightgoes off and on by itself when driving, dealer knows of problem, said it was switches, changed , but problem started again as soonas i left the service area. Many other reports of this failure on theweb, this is an electrical problem not a switch problem, interferes with my ability to see, especiallly backing up , can't see at all.

The contact owns a 1997 mazda b-series 4000. While driving at any speed, the clutch failed to operate when attempting to change gears. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was a fractured steel casting located under the steering wheel and behind the clutch and brake pedals. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000.

While driving at any speed, a loud grinding noise is heard coming from the differential. Problem was reported to the mazda corporation. The repairs to the differential will be made at owner's expense..et.
Just an additional problem with mazda/ford manufactured 5 speed automatic transmission
When driving 30 mph and upon attempting to change lines gear shift knob came off, causing driver to become destructive which caused him to hit a curve. Consumer notedscrew was missing.

Seat failed to support head and spinal column during accident, causing injuries to consumers neck and back.
The driver's seat back in my mazda pickup truck unexpectedly released falling backwards while driving.fortunately i was going slowly in a parking lot at the time and there was no loss of control.i found the large torx-head screws that anchor the seat back to the reclining frame had sheared off.
While driving and without warning, the back rest of seat collapsed and would not stay up. *jg

While driving the vehicle about 50 mph. Consumer bumped the ignition key and turned key to off position, and steering wheel locked with key in it, resulting in loss of control.

Vehicle pulls to the right.certified mechanics have said that the camber casters need to be replaced because the vehicle arms are too long.
Nar 03/05/2003 the consumer experinced severe front suspension vibrations and date the problem the problem has not been corrected by either mazda or ford motor company.
Front end suspension drifts, aligned several times, however no improvement.

While driving at 70mph in right lane on rural highway, i heard a thud and immediately lost control of the truck and was thrown into the left lane almost over the center line.i regained control of the truck and stopped on the side of the road.the tread on the driver back tire was completely peeled off, but the tire had not deflated.the back truck fender and fender guard was completely bent underneath the truck.the fender and guard in front of the tire was bent outward, with the support frame broken and the fender gueard sticking at a 90 degree angle out from the truck.when i took the tire off the truck, the entire tread was wrapped 3 times around the axle.both back tires and the spare are the same firestones.on inspection of the other back tire, we have found cracks in the sidewall both near the center, as well as cracks near the tread along most of the tire. This size tire is not under recall but should be. These tires are showing tread separation now. Firestone dealers have told me that i should be very concerned about the condition of my tires but there is nothing they can do for me because they do not qualify for replacement.( dot number: w29v1pk336 tire size: p265/75r15 )
Replaced my four firestone wilderness all terrain tires because they were failing.the tires belts were peeling from the tires.now mazda corp. Usa operations will not reimburse me for the replacement.can you please help me?this occured aug. 2000, i mailed mazda all paperwork. My vehicle was only a couple of weeks old when the tires started shredding.when i contacted mazda and firestone, i was told i was at fault for the problem.i was amazed at this attitude since the vehicle was only a couple of weeks old and only had a few hundred miles on it.after much "debate" with both companies, they agreed to replace the tires.i am reporting this occurence now, because of the latest press regarding the faulty firestone tires. I have the paperwork from the firestone deal;ership, showing the new tires being installed, and please note, it also relfects the mileage of my truck at the time of this service-474 miles! These tires have always had a vibration even after repeated balancing. They need to be rebalanced after each 3,000 miles. The problem is most noticeable over 55 mph and actually gets worse the longer you drive (especially noticable over 30 miles). The selling dealer everett mazda is now out of business and the next closest dealer dougs mazda in lynnwood wa will not take care of the problem. I have taken it to both firestone and everett mazda when they were in business and the problem still exists.( dot number: tire size: p26570r15 )
Pe00 020; took his vehicle into agoodyear tire company,andmechanic told him that tires showed stress marks, and a cracking line all around all four tire firestone ,#fr480, p22570r14.there were no injuries.

Pe00020; while driving on highwaytread on the right rear tire separated. Firestone wilderness tires on a mazda b4000 1997,tire size p265/r7515 and dot #w29v1pk476.the tire sounded funny like floopping or hollow sound and the tread wear is on the inside part of the tire.
Firestone tires (p225 70 r14) experienced tread separation and 2 tires went flat, tires were not included in the recall.

The contact owns a 1997 mazda b4000( n/a). The contact was driving approximately 15 mph proceeding to a traffic stop signal when unexpectedly, smoke expelled underneath the instrument panel and hood area which caused the driver to pull over to the side of the road. A temporary fix was performed and the vehicle was able to resume operation. During the travel there was complete loss of brake power and the emergency brake was engaged to bring the vehicle to a stop. The contact installed a new brake reservoir and deactivation switch. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for inspection where the contact was informedthat the failure was contributed to the deactivation switch and the technician bleed the brake system. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and there was a recall for the vehicle under nhtsa campaign id number 09v414000 (vehiclespeed control: cruise control). The vehicle has not been repaired at this time. The vin was unavailable. The failure and current mileages were 165,000

I never thought much about the problem with my wipers, untill my sister bought a ford ranger not long ago. Then she started to have the same problems with her wipers also.
Windshield wiper and washer will turn on by itself even with switch inoff position, possibly due to electrical problems.
