My husband was driving our 2001 madza 626 with about 59000 miles (can't be accurate because it is still in the shop).he hit a pick-up truck from behind while going approximally 40 miles per hour. A car in front of the truck stopped quickly when the light changed. When the truck stopped, he was not able to stop.the truck had a large iron round bumper guard.my husband head hit the steering wheel along with his body being throw forward.the airbags did not deploy.because of his head injury and back pain he had to be transported to hospital.he is still having headaches.because we only have the minum full coverage all of his hospital bills and cost of the transport is on us.we have not received all of the hospital bills, but the transport itself is over $900.he also was not able to go to work for three days. If the airbags had deployed he would not have hit his head and been thrown forward.the cost of the car repairs are $3,800. The date of this accident was october 20,2003.the airbags has not been looked into at the body shop and the car is almost ready.i feel this is a defect in the car. I am concerned that if another accident occurs, this will happen again with greater injuries or maybe death.
Consumer states:while driving at the speed of 35 mph was involved in a frontal collision neither air bag deployed. Dealer has been notified.if you have any additional information feel free to add. Mr
The light for the air bags just started to flash on the panel - car only 8 years old & done around 50000 kms - have been told it is the module and needs replacing - also that the bags could either inflate without warning or may not work at all if car involved in an accident - therefore considered dangerous. Cost of approx au$1500. Should this really be happening in a car of this age. We feel it is a fault with the car and the module should be replaced as a 'car defect replacement'. Has anyone had any dealings with this problem before and if so what was the outcome. I feel we should not have to pay for this as it is definitely a manufacturing problem.
Vehicle was hit a 30 mph in the front center of the vehicle but the air bag did not deploy causing minor injuries to the consumer.the drivers seat belt did not hold and as a result the driver head went through he windshield.the dealer was notified. Ts *nlm
Dt: the contact owns a 2001 mazda 626. The contact's vehicle hwas involved in an accident on august 17, 2005 while driving 35-40 mph.upon impact, none of air bags deployed . There where two occupants in the vehicle, husband the driver and contact the passenger. Both occupants where wearingseat belts. There was pre-impact braking. The impact was on the right fender bending the hood of the car. The air bag light came on and went off only when starting the car, which was what the manual stated that it should do. There was one person injured. A police report was taken.
Vehicle involved in a frontal collision with a 1984 dodge, 6000; at 35 mph. Upon impact, both air bags did not deploy. Dealer / manufacturer were notified.
My son hit a telephone pole after he hit some black ice.he was going about 30mph and the air bags never deployed.i have pictures of the car inside and out if you would like for me to forward them to you.mazda is really passing the buck.i am thankful my son only had a broken wrist and had to have surgery to put a screw in.it could have been a fatality.i wouldn't want another family to go through something like this.please contact me with any information you may have to get some results out of mazda.thanks again!!
While driving 35 mph vehicle collided witha telephone pole.upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy.the seat belts did not lock up, and driversustained minor injuries. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection, but dealer did not resolve the problem.
Dt:the contact'svehicle was involved in two rear end collisions . Upon impact, the airbags did not deploy.the speed of the first collision was not available, but it was at a low speed.the second collision occurred at 30 mph.both times the contact sustained injuries.there was damage to the vehicle.a police report wastaken.there has been no inspection or repairs made to the airbags.
I was involved in a collision where i rear ended the vehicle in front of me. The collision occured in a 45 mph zone. As a result i sustained a concussion and was taken to the hospital. I now have a cut on my head and two black eyes. The air bags never deployed despite the $7500.00 in damage to the front end of my vehicle. Please contact me if you have any further questions. I want to help prevent other people from going through the trauma that i have been through. Please help to rectify this ongoing airbag situation with the mazda 626. I have also contacted the mazda dealer.
During a total frontal collision, where my mazda rear-ended a lexus suv, at a speed b/t 25 and 30 mph, the frontal airbags did not deploy.there was over $5600 worth of damage to the front end of my car due to the force of the collision.however, the airbags did not deploy.i suffered muscular and compression injuries in this collision.medical care was sought for these injuries.these injuries may have been prevented had the airbags deployed correctly.during the collision, i went underneath the suv and therefore the lowest part of the front bumper was not touched.however, the rest of the front end suffered much damage.the airbag sensors must be located in this lower bumper area.this is not good, if i would have hit the suv harder, i would have still gone under their trunk and would have possibly suffered more damages but without the airbags deploying because the sensors would have still been located too low to be activated.
Traveling in car on interstate in the right hand lane using cruise control set at 70mph. Was coming up on a car and tapped the brake to disengage cruise control and the car did not disengage. I tried to use the brake and it was not working and went to the floor. I could not shut the cruise control off at the controls on the steering wheel either. I quickly swerved onto the shoulder of the freeway to avoid hitting the car in front of me. My husband turned off the ignition and i eased up on the emergency brake and we came to a safe stop. After inspecting the car we turned the car back on and tested the brakes at slow speeds on the shoulder and the brakes engaged normally. My husband feels the cruise control stuck and that is why we could not stop the car with the cruise control buttons or with the brake pedal.
My daughter was sitting in her car when she noticed smoke coming from the wiper switch area and blinker area.the smoke smelled like burning plastic.upon further inspection by a mechanic, it was discovered that the ignition switch was bad, causing the starter to stay engaged.the burning smell was coming from the ignition switch. I currently have the defective part as well as the receipt for the replacement part.
The power doors unlocked by themselves. Also there is a beeping sound when remote control for power door locks is activated.
Columbia heights, washington dc june 19th 2012, i was with my mother and partner parking in front of giant supermarket returning a movie at local redbox, while waiting for my partner, i turned off the car, sitting inside noticed dense fumes came from the ignition, i removed the key and fumes still coming out, we step outside the car and we saw several sparks in the ignition, i called immediately 911, suddenly a big flame of fire came from the steering wheel, the car was on fire, we were close to the rooms from a local fire department, a man came with a fire extinguisher and calm the fire and flames; fire truck came less than 10 minutes later, but car was already destroyed. I have pictures to prove, phone calls and witness.
Ignition fire.
The contact owns a 2001 mazda 626. The contact stated that after fuel was added to the vehicle, the engine seized and would not engage. The engine would operate when the accelerator pedal was tapped. Also, while driving, the vehicle sporadically stalled. The contact was unsure if any warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to flow mazda of greensboro (1205 bridford pkwy, greensboro, nc 27407, 336-299-1500), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was unknown.
I have been having so many problems with my mazda 626 and it's a 2001. The times that i have taken it in the shop that would tell me that nothing is wrong with my car, but of course i know my car better i do drive it more than they have too. What i discovered just today is off the map funny(like something is not right), was dealing with my odometer reading. So if i can please allow me your help before my give out on me.thank you mrs. Jackson
I purchased a brand new mazda 626 lx 2001 model on august 19, 2001 at magnussen's ford/nissan/mazda dealership in newark ca.little did i know, i bought a lemon!!!!! i returned the vehicle numerous times and telling the service dept people that the transmission was slipping and overrunning in gear.at one point, i had a friend of mine drive the vehicle to the dealership andmeet with the service dept people. This was the week before christmas2001.rudy diephus could not believe that i was getting a song and dance from the magnussen service dept. Rudy built and drove race cars for over thirty years, and knew i had a transmission problem.the service manager bob (who is no longer there) said that the car had to be broken in, not enough miles on the car.bob also said that all mazda 626's drive like this (transmission slipping/overrunning in gear). In addition, i was told to keep a journal of every time this happened. That would be a problem, writing and driving at the same time.again, returned the vehicle back to magnussen's and met with a different svc manager.here it is april 2002, and i was told that the transmission tech was going to run a special test on the car (line pressure check at idle and stall speeds). Sure enough, i was right!the test indicated that there was a definite problem with the transmission.after driving the vehicle out of the dealerships lot, the car was (and is) running worse than ever.the second transmission is worse than the first. I return the car and the car stays there for another week.i picked up the car on april 26, 2002,(running worse)and drove to vacaville about 100 miles one way from where i was living.i felt something funny under the hood and drove into vacaville and found a mazda dealership.i explained the problem of the transmission and engine. They stated that there was a problem with the mounts and the car needed new mounts.
The engine is misfiring causing the check engine light to come on. The first two times i took the car in for this problem they replaced spark plugs and told me i was putting "bad gas" in the car; the third time they replaced a distributor cap, the fourth the ignition wires, the fifth the computer in the car, and now for the sixth attempt they are replacing valve one in the engine.the dealer has had my car for 31 days (21 business days) and as of yesterday, even after replacing the valve in the engine, the problem has still not been corrected. I've had a rental car for the 31 days they've had my car.i purchased the optional insurance because my insurance agent advised me to do so (what the rental company expects in the event of an accident is much higher than what an insurance company would pay...therefore i would be responsible for the difference).mazda refuses to pay for the insurance on the rental car which, considering the circumstances, i believe is unreasonable.i would like to exercise my lemon law rights, however my car had over 18,000 miles on it at inception of the problem and was 18 months old. My purpose in filing this complaint is to warn other consumers against the mazda 626 as it has been nothing but trouble for me.
I have put so much money in this car. Alternator, transmission, brakes, tires and ball joints. Now the catalytic converter needs replaced, wiper motor and quarter panels are all rusted out. I am disabled and this is my only transportation. Should all of this should of gone wrong? it will not pass inspection. I have had this car eight years.
I've had numerous problems with this car since 03/2001. I purchased it new from marlin mazda. This car has stalled several times while driving. The sunroof and corner roof between the front windshield and driver door leaked water when it would rain. January 2003 my car ran hot, the air conditioning was not blowing.they said they replaced the head on my engine and that some hose was not connected, this is why my air wasn't blowing? my car stalled on me 08/27/03. No warning lights came on. The car wasn't even hot. Towed to marlin mazda.i paid for new battery. I asked them to chaeck under hood to be sure no other problems, they told me at least $500 to check engine thoroughly? week later stall again. This time towed to ocean mazda, knocking noise under hood, they said it is the engine and oil pump. They tried to look up factory warranty, they're not repairing it because marlin mazda voided my warranty(marlin said sludge in engine/ code w8.) that was a lie! i have been getting scheduled maintenance on my car. Ocean mazda checked engine no sludge but they can't do repair work without warranty. They tried to call district manager because code w8 does not exist!!! also, i have an extended warranty which they seem to have no record of? i have spoken to mazda american credit to get copies of loan papers that shows purchase of extended warranty. I guess the next step is a law suit. After all these headaches i don't even want this car anymore.i am already paying a high car note for extra coverage and they don't even have the descency to repair my car.
1. Turned air conditioner on. No cold air coming out, then shortly noticed the car heat gauge was showing hot, and fumes coming from hood.2. Pulled to the side of road. Turned off engine and waited about 20 minutes before checking the hood. The coolant reservoir had coolant. Opened the coolant tank, and there was no steam or hot fluids from the tank.3. Tried restarting after cooling and the car would not restart. Had car towed to repair store. Had to get another engine since the engine was damaged.
In august 2001, i purchased a mazda 626.in may 2003, i started to experience major problems with the car.at 23,000 miles, the following had to be replaced: transmission assembly, thermostat and radiator sub-tank.at 31,000 miles, my car was in the shop for 11 days in order to replace the following: mass air flow sensor, fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator, valve idle air control, thermostat gasket, and the throttle body gasket.my car is nearing the end of its 3 year/36,000 warranty and i am frightened about how much future repairs will cost, as well as the overall safety of the car.
Coolant reservoir on mazda 626 models has a design flaw.our vehicle has required 4 of these since we've owned it.each time, the part is no longer under warranty as it is over 12 months old.failures occurred on 5/30/06 at 118k and again on 6/1/07 at 138k, and now on 7/11/08 at 162k.the problem is that they are manufactured with a seam on the bottom.the seam leaks and so coolant gradually leaks from the reservoir until you notice your vehicle slowly running hot.since i watch may gauges closely, i always see when this is happening.replacing coolant will prevent the engine from overheating but replacing the reservoir is always required.locally this part costs $100.this does not include labor to remove/discard the old reservoir and to attach the new one.our local mazda dealership has 50 of these in stock at any given time.seems like a large inventory for a part.this item needs to be redesigned so that the seam is more durable or so that there is no seam at the bottom where the leaks keep occurring.others not aware of this problem may have allowed their engines to overheat causing much more costly problems in their engines.we have been fortunate in that we have always caught it early and that we have a good mechanic not associated with a dealership but who is mazda certified.
Vehicleoverheated and spilled coolant.it had been to the repair shop 5 times for overheating.
Dt*: the contact stated that the engine overheated due to a coolant tank leak.the vehicle was inspected by a service dealer, where the coolant tank was replaced.after a year a half the new coolant tank started to leak causing the same overheating issue.
The contact owns a 2001 mazda 626.the contact stated that the water reservoir off the radiator has to be replaced for the fifth time.the reservoir holds the overflow from the radiator.there is a crack in the seal where the seal meets.she has had to pay for each repair because the manufacturer stated that the vehicle was out of warranty.the vin was unknown.the failure mileage was 150,000.

Dt: the contact stated while pulling the shifter into drive the spark plug blew out of the engine. The contact called thedealer for assistance, but they offered no free remedy. The manufacturer has not been contacted.
Vehicle stalled several times while driving. Also, waterleaked into sun roof. Last week the car stalled.towed it to marlin mazda. Consumer had to pay $65 for a new battery.consumer cancelled warranty, stating sludge in engine.that was a lie.towedvehicle to ocean mazda, they did not find sludge. They said they could not fix it because warrantywa scancelledby marlin mazda (code w8). Ocean mazda said this code did not exist. This car was purchased new 03/2001. My factory warranty was for 3 years or 50,000 miles. Consumeronly had 38,000 milesand an extended warranty.

Vehicle: mazda 626 2001. The engine light has kicked on numerous times while driving at a 35-40mph.mechanics indicate that the code references the one of two problems- oxygen sensor defect or catalyst inefficiency.but, because the code is not specific as to which piece is defective the only recourse is to drive the vehicle and if the engine light turns off don't worry or bring the vehicle back if the light continues to stay on.i have continued to drive the vehicle and of course the light turns itself off.i return to the service station when the light turns back on.this problem has been occurring over a two month time span.i have not had any work done to "solve" the problem because no one knows what the problem may be.this is not a valid answer.the engine light would not activate if there is "no problem".please provide assistance.if you are having this problem please file a complaint.
The contact owns a 2001 mazda 626.on approximately november 22, 2007, while driving 60 mph, the check engine light illuminated.the dealer stated that the catalytic converter failed.the manufacturer agreed to pay half of the replacement cost for the catalytic converter.on approximately october 15, 2006, (15,000 miles later) the engine shut down and the vehicle was towed.the catalytic converter was replaced again.the contact requested information as to whether the catalytic converter was flawed.the dealer stated that this type of failure was rare and the cause could not be explained.the failure mileage was 69,000 and current mileage was 84,000.

The engine light on my car has recently come on, and goes off periodically also. I took it to have the problem diagnosed and the mechanic said it was the the catalytic converter & o2 sensors on my 2001 626 4.0 cylinder. He said the catalytic converter had to be bought from mazda only and it was $672, and the 2 o2 sensors would be $416.00 as well.....is there anyone else who've had these problems???also, is there a warranty on the converter??
As well as other 626's my transmission has blown. Was driving it, down the road, then the check engine light flashed about 7 times, and it revved, then went down and revved with the check engine light. Took it to aamco transmissions and they drove it and looked and told me that its shot. Of course this all happens after spending $1200 for a dealer only catalytic converter. Why would anyone buy this car knowing that they fall apart, and have dealer only parts!?
My transmission had to be replaced on my 2001 mazda 626 this week.i had a previous problem with the internal coolant in 2003 which also cost me money.last week i had to replace the catalytic converter.this car has given me nothing but problems since i've owned it.i do not feel the problems i've been having should occur in a 2001 automobile when regular maintenance is kept up.
The electric system seems to be defective, because always something related to it is out of work.frequently it is reflected in the air conditioning.for instance, the last time the air condition (a/c) was repaired, that repairman left the claxon and the rear defrost out of work.the a/c has been repaired too many times that it does not fit with a new vehicle.nowadays it is out of work again. I fear that next time is the lights to be off when just driving. In incident date, next data required in this scheme, i am putting the last repair in the dealer.*la
Consumer states that there are fumes coming from the a/c making the consumer sick. Cause unknown. Dealer notified.

My 2001 mazda 626 has had two transmissions installed and now installing the third one @104000 miles first time the overdrive light flashed and would not shift into the proper gearat 53000 miles we had to fight with mazda north america for several weeks to take care of it. Also wheeler mazda in yuba city did not help or care witch the car was purchased at new. I have had the car serviced at the dealerfor all recommended service.now the second one just went out @ 104000 miles and the mazda rep for mazda north america will not help at all. The cost to repair this one is2,900 dollars. I have 3 children and one on the way. This is not what i expect from a new car that has been well taken care of. The axles went out @ 70000 miles the stereo went out 2 times in the first month. The 2nd transmission started squeaking for about 10 minutes then the transmission just quit. Thanks.

2001 mazda 626.transmission shifting cable falls off shift lever on transmission.once occurs, can not shift out of whatever position you are in at the time of the failure.mazda sells a new cable kit with new/adequate cable to transmission connection device ($180). You can not just buy the connector.mazda parts person said, "we sell a lot of these" indicating numerous failures for same cause.being a mechanical engineer, i resolved the issue with a axle nut as used to hold wheels on a child's wagon, etc.
The door lock will close and lock intermittenly.causing the consumer to clam out on the opposite side.pleasefurnish additional information. Dealer is aware of the problem. Mr

This car started having difficulty with going into reverse.forward is becoming difficult also.two different mechanics indicate that it is the transmission.they note that changing the transmission fluid may give temporary relief but the real problem is i need a new transmission.i live and work overseas on a us army military base so to even consider bringing anspec rebuilt transmission over is very expensive.i have been told that with a replacement transmission i will have the same problem.i have had all preventive maintenance done on the cover over the years and to have this happen at 88,000 miles is a financial hardship.
I own a 2001 mazda 626.while the car is 9 years old, it has only 72,000 miles on it.the problem i've had with it is that the shifter cable keeps failing on it.this is a very dangerous and potentially fatal thing that keeps happening.it has failed 3 times in the past 4 years (2006-2010) and seems to be happening every 20k-30k miles.the last time was less than a month ago and just over a year since the last failure.each time, the warranty period has expired, so i'm having to pay hundreds of dollars out of pocket to get this replaced.i've had it done at 3 different places, including a mazda dealership.there is obviously aserious defect in the shifter cable parts/design, but, to my knowledge, mazda has yet to acknowledge it.i've contacted them to no avail.most people, myself included, have cars for years and years and with a lot more mileage, and the shifter cable never goes out.mazda needs to be held accountable for this disgrace.what can i do to see justice served?
Transmission o/d lights flashing and does not move in the first gear or shift to second either has happened on free way also which is very dangerous.my wife drives with kids.
Vehicle bought new.automatic transmission - overreving, shift hunting, hard to engage, slipping, noise, vibration, engine hesitancy.transmission replaced at 5512 miles with rebuilt unit; rebuilt unit is worse than original.

I bought this car used a year ago this month when my daughters car engine locked up.she was out of state so it was a hurry up thing over the phone.she didn't realize the transmission was slipping in first gear, thought it was cv joint.shop diagnosed the transmission.this really makes me sooo mad as this is a nice car.i think ford should pay to replace all the transmissions in these cars.now i have to either dump it at a loss or pay out alot to get transmission repaired .
2001 mazda 626 4 cylinder automatic transmission failed. The car will not drive anymore. After driving it for a distance of 60 miles one day, i parked it, tried to start driving it again and it wouldn't go.
2001 mazda 626 lx 4 cyl auto trans.at 80k miles, after long highway trips, the o/d off light started flashing intermittently. Then, there was difficulty shifting, then the entire transmission failed. I have had two transmission rebuilds at a cost of $3500 over the past 2 years. It has been a year since my last rebuild and i am seeing the same problems again. I have seen reports all over the internet sitting similar problems. I am not happy with this vehicle at all.
My 2001 mazda 626 transmission failed.on june 6, 2003 we placed our 626 with jim ellis mazda in atlanta, ga because the overdrive was flashing.the warranty repair order states "trans over heated.needs updated cooler.installed trans cooler.see ro for details."two years later our transmission has failed, and after reading experiences from many other people who have had the same failure, this is due to a faulty transmission that mazda has installed in their 626's.i feel strongly that mazda knows about this problem and refuses to issue a recall, and will continue to deny this problem until something is done to force their hand and require them to face the problem.
Mazda 626 transmission failure while passing another vehicle ( semi-tractor) passing gear failed to engage when passing another vehicle transmission never left drive but felt like it was in neutral, causing me to apply brakes and pull to side of road, found out by the machanic who checked out the transmission that it had burnt out at 67,000 miles! and that mazda had a tsb out on these transmissions and did'nt bother to tell the owners of these cars nor will they hrlp in any repairs!
Transmission failed, even after proper maintenance. 2nd transmission also failed 13 months later. 2001 mazda 626 es v6 2.5l automatic transmission.
Less than one month ago i had a flashing engine light on my 4cyl-mazda 626. The dealer claimed it was the converter and changed that out. Now the o/d light is flashing and the transmission is not shifting properly. I have taken it to two shops for checking and of course it is the transmission. I have not and cannot have it repaired at the recommended costs..and still pay the car note. Also, i do not think i should have to replace it at 68,000 miles on a car that has been serviced and maintained properly.
Mazda 626 2001 58,000 mi, transmission failure transmission was rebuilt for a cost of $2400.
2001 mazda 626 es v6transmission failure at 78,000 miles.
Transmission problems in my 2001 mazda 626
On saturday september 26 at around 3:00 pm i was driving down the florida turnpike in homestead when my 2001 mazda 626 v4 started to spike in rpm's up above normal. At this same time i noticed that i started to decelerate in speed. I have never experienced this before and before this i have been extremely happy with my automobile purchase. Upon inspection of my vehicle i noticed that in drive and reverse my car would not move at all. I had to tow my car home and upon calling a mechanic i was informed that i had a transmission failure. Once i was able to get online i started to search for a new transmission and with great displeasure i found out that this was a common problem with the mazda 626 line. I want to know why there has not been any kind of recall or acknowledgement of this issue by the government or by mazda at all. Why is there no accountability when it comes to companies and faulty equipment? it is just like the saying goes ??the poor get poorer and the rich get richer". My car is a 2001 and only has 35000 miles on it. I do not drive like a crazy person and drive a total of 8 miles a day to and from work. There was no indication of my transmission failing it just went from one moment to the next. Fortunately i was not on the busy part of the highway or on i-95 where there are large semi trucks going by at very high speeds. This could have ended worse than it did. Does someone have to die for the government to start doing what they should have been doing in the first place? i would like to think that my government would be more proactive than that. Please do not prove me wrong and investigate this issue before someone loses their life. Thank you very much.
First my car started jerking, i was told by the mazda dealer that it's okay. Then my check engine light and my o/d started blinking... Next thing i knew my car stopped. It will go into reverse but not drive. I now need a new transmission. I have since found that mazda should have told me about a transmission coolant system that was needed for my car, but not installed when the car was purchased. Several people have this concern.. I am so disappointed.
Transmission failure occurred at 80,000 miles.rebuilder stated the plates were burned and installed standard soft parts kit with steel plates.less than 2000 miles and 2 months later the transmission had a spontaneous failure.the failure occurred in the intersection of two 45mph streets in las vegas hazarding other drivers.
Two transmission failures.first at 76,000, 2nd at 101,000 miles.had transmission rebuilt both times. There we 2 other 626's in transmission shop at the same time.
My name is [xxx].i have a 2001 mazda 626 lx.4 cyl.with only 97,000 miles on it the transmission has gone bad.when i put my car into drive gear the car would not move only the rpms would rev up.the car drives in 1st and 2nd gear and reverse but not in drive.after taking to the transmission shop it is costing me $2000 to have the transmission rebuilt.this is ridiculous that so many people have filed a compliant against this car for transmission problem and the car manufacturer is not doing anything for their consumers.why don't they have a recall for this car??doesn't mazda want to sell more cars in the future?i will never buy another mazda and will discourage anyone i know from buying it.is this transmission even worth rebuilding?i am scared that this issue will happen again.is mazda even reimbursing any cost for this repair?does anyone know?information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
O/d off light began to flash when vehicle's total mileage was about 76,000 miles.informed by the dealer that transmission had overheated and required replacement.vehicle's warranty had expired thus dealership refused to cover expenses of repairs.*la*mr
After two hours of highway driving, my 2001 mazda 626 o/d off light began flashing, as my transmission fluid over-heated.i checked the transmission fluid level, which was ok.my engine oil level was 2 qts. Low.this did not make any sense since i had just had my oil changed two weeks prior and checked the oil level after the work was completed.i called the mazda dealership and was told to bring the car in to have it evaluated.the car registered a p1783 code during diagnostic testing.i was told that there was a service bulletin recommending that an atf cooling kit be installed to reduce the atf temperature, preventing over-heating.the service manager recommended that i not have the atf cooling kit installed at a cost of $1,100 since my transmission may possibly fail within a few months.after reading tsb 634465 and realizing that the transmission design is under-sized for the 2001 626, i recommend that mazda recall the 626 transmissions installing the required atf cooling kit to prevent premature failure of mazda's under-sized transmission design for the 626 model.
2001 mazda 626 transmission overdrive not working, broke at 60 mph on interstate with only 40,000 miles on vehicle and had to pull over in a hurrypossibly causing an accident.
Mazda 626lx transmission went three times and the car is only 3 years oldmobile.
Automatic transmission failure at 41,000 miles.
2001 mazda 626 lx with 76,000 miles on it began having its o/d off light flash on my dashboard.then my shifting in my transmission went out. Then the transmission went out completely.car was in excellent condition before this and the only reason must be a faulty transmission.i am a student and am having to work overtime to pay for a new transmission, which may also fail due to the electrical problems inherent in the transmission.
2001 mazda 626 transmission failure at 113,000 miles and attempt to contact mazda through customer services line resulted in long wait and no satisfactory answer.
My 2001 mazda 626 4 cylhad low power from the beginning.when it reached about 52000 miles i noticed that it was shifting slowly.at about 53000 the overdrive light began flashing and within a week or so the car would not go in reverse and was very difficult to start moving after a stop. I called harold mazda and they told me i needed a new transmission which they put in for a mere $3800 as it was 3013 miles over the 50000 mi warantee period..at the time i asked them if there was a reason it failed and they told me no there were no problems with the mazda 626.they also told me there was nothing i could do to reduce the likelyhood of it's happening again - they did not mention the cooling unit i have read about. Now my mazda 626 is again shifting slowly and i afraid it will happen again.there is only 67000 miles on it now but the new transmission is out of it's 1 yr warantee period.mazda should be made to acknowledge this problem and offeer compensation to it's victims.
I bought a mazda 626 in august 2001.when the mileage reached 74,414 in early march 2006, the car could not reverse and was hard to go forward.i was told by the mazda dealer that the transmission failed and the estimated cost for putting a re-manufactured transmission would be around $3,800.since my car was out of warranty period, they could only give me a discount of $1,000. I did bring my car to the dealer for regular maintenance, and i believed they did not try their best to help me out even i told them there are lots of complaints about the mazda 626 transmission problems. So i took my car to other service center for repairs, and the dealer charged me $80 for diagnostic fees.this car has cost me so much for repairs: fixing the transmission for $2,700, and i just worry that there will be more expensive repairs in near future.
Started with overdrive light flashing on/off. Car hesitates and chugs when you step on the gas from a stopped position. Jerks while shifting and transmission is failing. I have had all the recommended services done including tune up, oil change and transmission fluid flush. The car has 73,000 miles on it.
On january 21, 2005 i took my car into tuffy muffler shop in toledo, ohio for possible transmission problems, or it need a tune-up badly...it has 93k miles and is a 2001 626. After checking it out, i was told the transmission was fine but it definitely needed a tune-up. Three weeks later the transmission went out while on a skiing trip 12 hours from where i live. Had to stay over 2 days in a hotel and purchase a used $400 truck to get back home. Now fighting with tuffy about their negligence to properly perform a minimum transmission check.
2001 mazda 626 with a flashing over-drive light at 48,000 miles.the gear ratio is off and the transmission needs to be replaced for $3300.00.
O/d light blinking, wont stop, cannot engage or disengage o/d function.
Yes i purchase acertified used 2001 mazda 626 the summer of 2003 for my graduation gift from high school, no having the car for 3 years i am now looking to trade in my car or buy me another one.with 91.000 miles on my car, my transmission has gotten to be replace.i could not move my car in drive while i was in overdrive. I could only use overdrive once i have gotten over 50.the next day i made a appointment and they told me my overdrive had burnt out and i had more internal failures on my transmission and they could not determine what made the transmission repair.they told me they would have to put in a remade transmission for $2700.i am really piss of at mazda. For one they dealer said they could not do nothing and the transmission warranty runs out a 3 year or 36,000. What type of bs is that for a transmission warranty.
My 2001 mazda 626 transmission suddenly went bad on the interstate. My husband knows a salvage yard owner and he says he can't keep them in stock because they are notoriously bad. It only has 79k miles on it. This is so wrong on a whole new level. I see the other people on the internet with the exact same problem. Mazda corp. Doesn't seem to be interested in accepting responsibility for their shortcomings. I bought this car new at the dealer. I won't make the mistake of purchasing a mazda again.
Transmission went out after 78,000 miles, and it cost over $2600 to fix.
Transmission failure occurred the first time in early spring of 2003.my 626 had just turned over 53,000 miles when the transmission went.called for a tow, transmission place said that it was likely to have to be a full rebuild.i called dealership, they called mazda and mazda paid for new transmission and tow, even though the car was out of warranty.this weekend, driving car, no sign of any issue, just had a fluid flush done on the car 6,000 miles ago so i know that is fine.come home after a weekend of city driving and go to get in the car the next morning when the car will not shift.stays in park no matter what gear i move shifter to.taking it in again with only 45,000 miles on the ~new~ transmission that mazda paid for the first time round.car only had 98,000 miles on it and has suffered 2 different transmission failures.
The transmission burn out and the vehicle would not shift at all. *nlm
My name is [xxx] but the car is under my father's name, [xxx].he bought the car for me.the gears sometimes will not engage and when i am finally able to switch gears the car will jerk about a foot back, and i've only had the car 3 months.parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
The automatic transmission in my car is broken.
I have a 2001 mazda 626 lx with automatic transmission.the car has worked great but at 125,000 miles the transmission went out.many other people have had similar problems with this transmission and still no recall?i took the car to a reputable mechanics shop and was told that the transmission needs to be replaced and not to waste my money on it because it is known for failures.i took it to a shop that specializes in transmissions and was told the same story except they felt they could fix the situation with an aftermarket valve kit that solves the problem.why are mazda and ford (the transmission was built by ford) allowed to ignore this problem?
I just bought a used 2001 mazda 626 from carmax in sterling, va in november of 2005.the vehicle had 29,400 miles on it on the date of purchase.now it has 33, 000 miles, and the car began to frequently jerk, the "o/d off" light came on...then the car would not move.i've since read about others with similar issues with this vehicle, and find that there is nothing being done by mazda to rectify the situation.so, i want to document my problem with the vehicle in the hopes that something will be done in the near future.
3rd transmission failure. This one at 113k miles.lucky this one covered by transmission shop warranty.
Dt*: the contact stated the transmission burned out at the end of a long trip. Initially, the service dealer offered to cover the cost of the transmission if the contact paid for the labor cost. The dealer's offer was withdrawn because the transmission was rebuilt at 65,000 miles. A service bulletin (06012004, nhtsa item #10013965) regarding overheating of the transmission was discovered which recommended the installation of a transmission control module. The manufacturer was contacted.
Mazda626year 2001transmission failure, rpms wentto 4000 by itselfodometer light cameon and flashed on dashboard instrument panel and car jerkedbadly. Had to havevehicle towed on 7/6/2007, and had the transmission fluid changed. Service technicianfound nothing wrong.then on7/9/2007 car wa s doing exactly thesame thing. Had to have towed again to a different service institution awaiting results of estimate.
2001 mazda 626 esv6 transmission problems slips and jerks. The trans has been replaced in the early 30k range. It is now in the 63k range and starting again. Please help. We are being told it will cost us 2800 for repairs.
Dt*:the contact stated the vehicle stalled while stopped at a traffic signal.the vehicle was restarted and smoke was seen coming from under the hood.the vehicle was driven to an independent repair shop who determined the transmission had leaked fluid.the vehicle was later towed to another independent repair shop for further inspection, however no determination has yet been made on the cause of the leak.the dealer was not contacted.
Automatic transmission failure (twice). First time transmission went out was at 107,105 miles. I paid for the removal, rebuilding, and re-installing of my transmission. Parts replaced were, torque converter, mokcd4e, shift kit, filter inside, washer dir drum, sprag fwd, drum fwd, direct shell, t/bearing kit, bushing kit. Total cost $1701.82. Now at 138, 652 miles my transmission has went out again and has been in the shop for over a week. This time it will cost me $700.00.
1. 2001 mazda 626 --- transmission failure.2. Aamco #4660-- kept my car for 2 weeks. Different story/excuse for job not being completed.didn't put it back properly, ended up with engine light on, transmission fluid spill on right side leaking down on the ground; hose not connected& cause for a 2nd transmission failure.
Transmission burned out at 60,000 miles.since it's out of warranty, mazda won't handle responsibility and offer help.*la
I have a 2001 mazda 626 es, and as of yesterday, my transmission gear cable broke.i took my car to the dealership here in atlanta, and one of the reps informed me that they have been receiving quite a few cars such as mine with the same problem.a friend of mine (brenda jackson) has the exact same car as mine, and her vehicle had the same problem 3 weeks ago.all of the cars seem to have more than 50,000 miles on them, and this problem is not even covered by the extended warranty.
I have a 2001 mazda 626 4 cylinder i have just found out i have to have my transmission done due to the cd4e which were onmodel 1994-2002 also fords now i am finding out that mazda knew bout this an still have not recalled this is a shame because being a single mom with a disabled child working up to 3 jobs thinking she was purchasing a reliable car to find out $3,055.43 will be my cost is hard to shallow knowing that mazda knew this all along even putting out tsb, now i'm stuck with a car payment and i can't drive the car.
Consumer has been experiencing problems with transmission.owner took vehicle to dealer for repairs several times, only to have a rebuilt transmission installed at 5000 miles , and it is worse than theoriginal transmission.
O/d light flashing, and gears slipping.
I was alone in the car with my 9 yr old autistic son when the transmission failed on my 2001 mazda 626.i was fortunate enough to get off the road with out being rear ended however we were forced to pull over in a very dangerous part of austin.i am being told that my transmission has failed and needs to be rebuilt or replaced.i am learning that this is a common problem with all mazda 626 models 94-2002. Apparently the transmission is a ford and too small to support the 626 model therefore the cooling system is not sufficient to cool the transmission hence the system overheats. How many complaints have to be filed for mazda to be forced to recall this vehicle.my research is discovering that tons of accidents have happened because of this defect and nothing is being done to hold mazda accountable.
626 mazda lx 2001, 46,000 miles, transmission failure. Dealer diagnosed as requiring full exchange (rebuilt) transmission.originally quoted at $2,400. However after extensive complaint mazda representative assisted w/charging for labor $700.00 only. Mazda is being unfair with this situation...no car should be having this kind of failure at 46,000 miles.looking to have entire job warranted ...warranty had just expired by 3 days when incident occurred.
Auto transmission problems.
My 2001 626 (4 cylinder) transmission needs to be replaced at under 81,000 miles!!!! the only warning sign was it wouldn't shift into reverse one day, then boom, it barely moved forward again. I have never had a problem with this car and i have mostly owned mazda's so imagine my surprise and disappointment that it happened just after i lost my job. Now i have no job, no transportation and no means to get a job without it. Mazda apparently knew there were problems with the transmissions and chose to do nothing about it. I will never purchase or recommend a mazda ever again! as a result of your blatant failure to inform your customers you have lost at least one good customer forever.
Was at a stop sign.started to make a left turn, the engine started revving, and it felt as though the transmission was in neutral rather than drive.fortunately, no one was approaching , and the transmission finally shifted.once up to speed, it works okay.there was no earlier indication that this problem was occurring.currently, i can drive the car, but i need to shift between drive and 2nd.when slowing to stop, i downshift to 2nd just before coming to a stop.when starting from a stop, i shift to drive when the car reaches around 1500 rpm.mechanic says it'll cost me 3k or more for a new trans, or between $1200 to $2500 for rebuilt.called the mazda customer svc line.given mazda's history with 626 trans, i'm upset they have refused to give any help with this situation.
Hello,i am writing to inform you of a transmission problem i have with my madza 626. I have taken it to my mechanic and have talked to 3 others and they all tell me the same thing. This is a common problem with the automatic transmission on the madza 626. I bought my car new in 2001 and it has almost 99,000 miles. I have been told that it will cost me $2500-3000 to fix it. My mechanic says it will be cheaper for me in the long run to trade it in and get a new car. I am forced to get a new car because my 2001 madza 626 does not run. This car needs to be recalled.
1-complete transmission failure, car would slightly move under gas.gave no warning. Transmission failure at 65,000 mi. - rebuilt at an aamco transmission - cost approx. $2,000.00.dealer did not help.complained to mazda north america via letter, gave me $200. In gift cert. For service. Complained to consumer reports who gave car best buy rating - no negative rating on transmission. 2-rebuilt transmission started to slip - had trans shop check out, problem due totransmission failure of rebuilt transmission. This happened just this last week at 88,000 mi. Rebuilt at stop and go transmission. Cost to me approx $2,400.003- noticed mildew smell in car - discovered trunk leak noticed at 65,000mi. 2in. Of water would form in spare tire well after rain.car never hit prior to when it was fixed. Cost approx $400.
Vehicle broke down and o/d off light flashed. Vehicle overheated. Had not been repaired. Extended warranty declined to pay for services.
My car was purchased february 2001.several months later my transmission was replaced because the transmission stop shifting.*la
2001 mazda 626 with an automatic transmission.i purchased the car from a mazda dealer, it was a 1 owner trade-in with only 25,000 original miles.the vehicle went through a 100 point inspection from their service department.i only had the car for 5 days before thetransmission went out.when i placed the transmission in reverse or drive, it just remained still as if it was still in park or neutral, it was towed to a mazda dealer and diagnosed with a torque converter failure.this is apparently a major issue with most mazda 626's, old and new!
My name is aise cannon but the car is under my father's name, calvin cannon.he bought the car for me.the gears sometimes will not engage and when i am finally able to switch gears the car will jerk about a foot back, and i've only had the car 3 months.
2001 mazda 626 only 68,000 miles, transmission totally failed$2,800 to fix!
As with thousands of other 626's, our transmission went out on the interstate....will never buy another mazda.
Stopped the car and turned off the engine to put gas in , started the car, put gear into drive and felt a slight jump when i accelerated.i continued to accelerate and the car began to stall but the rpms continued to rise.i stopped the car and turned it off,let it cool down and turned it back on. Everything was fine until i put it into drive, pushed on the gas but the car didn't move one inch, just kept revving.transmission gone just like that.problem just occurred.estimate about 2000 dollars for new transmission after only 87000 miles.
Automatic transmission failure on my 626 lx 2.0 i4.these particular ford transmissions are notorious for failing.it is verified to be a poor design and should be recalled.
My 2001 mazda 626 lx would jerk extremely hard when starting off until speeds reached around 25+mph this happened since the day the car was purchased even after taking the car to the dealer for repairs the car still jerked when increasing speeds. Just recently while going to work the car would not move in reverse and barley move in drive after getting half way to work i stopped at a stop sign and the car would not move only rev up that's when i called atowing service to drop my car off to a garage after the mechanicsheard my problem they gave me some startling news that most of the4cyclemazda 626shave had problems with transmissions part i had to get was a new transmission.
The transmission failed 2 times both times replaced...
My 2001 mazda 626 2.0l lx has 104,500 miles on it.around 95,000 the transmission started shifting roughly.the problem got worse over time and at 104,500 miles i now need a transmission rebuilt.every mechanic i have taken it to and talked to knows the problems with this ford cd4e built transmission and are shocked ford/mazda has not done a recall on them.i am now looking at 2000 dollars in repairs.please forward this complaint to mazda along with all of the others and make them do what is right.so many people have been affected by these horrible transmission failures.please help us all.
I have a 2001 mazda 626 that had a transmission failure at less than 60k miles. My problems began when i started noticing a jerking motion when i accelerated out of a full stop.then, the transmission would sometimes delay engaging in reverse or drive.i had multiple mechanics look at the car, all of whom recommended a replacement transmission.i spoke with even more mechanics about the situation, including three at mazda dealerships, and all fully and openly acknowledged widespread problems with mazda transmissions.one service manager at a mazda dealership recommended i get rid of the car altogether. Another independent mechanic, a transmission specialist, refused to work on mazdas at all.to add insult to injury, mazda is also charging exorbitant prices for replacement transmissions (perhaps because they're in such demand?): just under $3000 for the part itself, not to mention labor. I paid over $3700 for the transmission to be replaced at a mazda dealership.even then, i had to return the car twice to the mechanic because the transmission wasn't engaging properly when i shifted gears from park to drive, for example.finally, the dealership determined that the transmission range sensor on my brand-new transmission needed to be replaced.i strongly urge nhtsa to take action to begin a recall of mazda transmissions. On this site, the 2001 mazda 626 has 10 times the transmission complaints than 2001 honda and nearly 12 times more than the 2001 camry.
2001 mazda 626 automatic 4 cylinder transmission began to fail.overdrive light would flash, auto would not move, like trans was left in neutral.mazda dealer said transmission was bad, $2100 to replace.in process of being repaired off warranty, will take 1-2 weeks.
On or before february, 2005, my 2001 mazda 626 began experiencing a problem while changing gears. I was on the highway when the vehicle began sputtering, changing gears very roughly and backfired. As this was taking place, the o/d light began flashing on and off. I immediately pulled off the road to prevent an accident and turned the vehicle off. It took about forty-five minutes before it turned on again. Ever since this incident, the vehicle continued to have the same problem ( rough gear shifting). It is now at a transmission shop who has explained that the transmission has burned out because of the lack of a cooling system. After doing some research, i found that there are many consumers with mazda 626's that were manufactured in the years 1992 to 2002 with the same problem.i have not had the problem fixed as yet, i will do so and request to keep the old parts if necessary.
Mazda 626 transmission failure, at 75,000 miles.dangerous, especially if the manufacturer knows this transmission is faulty.was travelling on a freeway in heavy traffic ... Car stalled immediately.could not move the car out of traffic lanes ...very dangerous result.
Dead transmission on a 2001 mazda 626 lx.
I have a 2001 mazda 626 with only a little over 100,000 miles and now the transmission went out. I had it looked at and was told that the chain inside the transmission was skipping links. The service man who looked at the car told me that he believes that there was a recall on this transmission because this problem was happening to alot of mazda 626 transmissions. The car is just sitting now because we can not afford 2000 dollars to get this fixed but if its possible to be looked at i was told that we could get it replaced for free. We really need assistance with this because we have a 10 month old daughter and one running vehicle and really need help getting this problem fixed.
Dt:the contact states he experienced a down shifting of the transmission while driving on the interstate. The transmission rapidly down shifted to a very low speed in a matter of seconds. This was the first incident of this type however he previously discovered there was some leakage of transmission fluid.he had the vehicle towed to his home.no repairs have been made at this time due to the expense.
Transmission has always been acting unusual but i mistakingly thought it was how the ride was in the brand new 2001 mazda 626 when bought in april 2001. It was heavy and i was used to driving heavier cars. 53,000 miles later the transmission dies and the servicer at the dealership tells me its "burnt." wants to charge $3700 to replace the transmission when i still owe $3700 on the car in payments. Research on the web tells me the transmission has a cooling system issue which needs to be replaced (@ about $800) in order to prevent this from happening again. Dying transmission caused car to roll back in d...beware!!!
While traveling on the highway, the transmission burned out.
Automation transmission went out on car. Have found out sense this happened that it happens alot on the mazda 626s because it uses the ford cd4e transmission that ford has issues with.
2001 mazda 626 - 6clyinder automatic transmission - bought brand new and brought it in regular according to recommended maintanence schedule. After 30,000 miles the transmission is shot. Had to be replace with rebuilt transmission.
2001 626 mazda 4 cy.transmission is going out and due to the number of issues reported by consumers about transmission problems, costly repairs and even additional problems.when is mazda going to be forced to do something about this issue?if they do not - this will be my last mazda.
I purchased a 2001 mazda 626 in july of 2002 and have had extensive problems with the tires on the car. I've had to change usually two tires at a time every six months. As of today along with problems with the tires my transmission blew out and i'm being quoted $3,300 to replace it. This shouldn't be happening on any car that is only four years old. It has 72,000 miles on it. I've researched this problem and have come across 200 other individuals that have had this same problem with the transmission. Some of them with brand new mazda's and some of them with the same car that is older than mine. It's amazing to me that mazda can get away with selling this car for so long with this same problem. I have three children that are in the car with me daily and i almost had an accident when the car died on me in the middle of a busy road. But yet, mazda can continue to put this car on the road even with all of the same complaints. My parents had a 1994 mazda 626 that they purchased brand new with zero miles and they had the same exact problem, had the car repaired and it happened again within two months. They are astonished that the mazda 626's are still on the road when they havn't corrected the problem and have the nerve to sell this car with pride in their dealerships.
Failed transmission. New transmission costing over $3000.00 required. I cannot afford to fix this problem so i cannot drive, neither can i have my emission testing done. I have asked for two postponement from mva already.
1) car overheating, o/d light blinking, car not shifting out of 1st gear2) car eventually would not shift at all, had repairs done = $19003) transmission shop replaced tranny. Mazda dealer quoted $3500 to do same repairs.
The contact owns a 2001 mazda 626lx. The contact was driving approximately 10 mph when the transmission began to slip with severe hesitation. The vehicle was diagnosed by two different independent mechanics who advised the contact that the transmission was defective and would need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 123,000.
With only 115,000 miles on 2001 mazda 626, the transmission needs replaced per professional assessment. Took it in after the overdrive function stopped working and the only way i was able to drive the car was by turning off the overdrive function.
Called the local mazda dealership, and talked to the repair center for a good few minutes. Told him about this website and how many complaints about the transmission there are, and he said that its not their fault. That they don't offer any discounts or anything for repairs like this. Also, have a problem with a misfire in my car. All after getting a new 1200 dealer only part. Do they care that they built a very horrible made car? no. I really think that they should be forced into atleast cutting the price down to half.its just normal driving that is causing the transmission to fail, and the misfire. I haven't gotten it fixed for i spent 6grand to get the car, and now i have almost put in 6grand to keep it running. Really wished i had never gotten this car.
I have 24,000 miles on my mazda 626 4cyclinder.this is the second transmission i had put in the car.after purchasing the car, i drove the car home and it was jerking a little.i thought it was me just getting use to driving the car.the next day i drove to church and the car started going in reverse while the gear was in drive.when i got to church, i called the dealer and they told me to have the car towed.mazda people said it was the transmission.they put a new transmission in.two years later on 10/2/04 i was returning from a funeral and the car started to slow down (no warnings).i turned it off.the car would start, but would not move in drive or reverse.i called the mazda dealer and they told me to call for towing.the car was towed to mazda dealer again.once again, its the transmission.they are going to replace the transmission again because its still under the warranty.i was surfing the internet regarding mazda transmissions came across some very important information.626 mazda 1994 - 2002 have a ford model cd4e transmission.the transmission has an over heating problem.mazda knows about this problem but they are noting fixing it. They issued a technical service bulletin telling how to correct the problem but they are not telling the customer about it unless the customer mentions something about it.the transmission needs a transmission cooling kit.my car is at the mazda dealer now. When i called about this cooling kit they told me that it would cost $280.00, only because they have to put in a transmission.if they do not have to put a transmission in it would cost more.i should not have to pay for the cooling kit.i have only had the car a little over two years.mazda should be made reponsible to pay for all repairs and or replacements that are covered under the warranty.
2001 mazda 626, wouldn't shift into gear, had the linkage cable repaired twice. Now at 149,000 miles the car won't shift into reverse and the od light keeps flashing on and off. We are having it towed (this is the 2nd tow bill)to a transmission shop tomorrow and having the transmission repaired. It will cost between 1500 & 1700 to repair. Updated 12-12-07.updated
I have a 2001 mazda 626 auto trans with 80,000 miles on it. For the most part my commutes would be an average 10 miles each way daily. Last six months the commute was about 25 miles each way with a combination of highway and city driving. On the days leading up to the incident, the car seemed to jerk into the higher gears - that was the first sign of trouble. On the day of the incident, it started up fine but would not move forward when gears are engaged in "drive" mode. It would move a little in the first gear if i pressed down the accelerator but never shifted into the higher gear. I did not want to burn out my engine - so i had the car towed to the repair shop. The mechanic checked it out and said that they would have to rebuild my transmission or replace it with a remanufactured piece. He also stated that it may be difficult to get a good working transmission from another car as this transmission (la4a-el by mazda or its equivalent cd4e by ford) have been known to have problems.so now i am looking at a high repair bill and since this is a one car family, an extended period of having to arrange alternative transportation. This is the third mazda (929, mx6 and now 626) in the family. Never had issues with the previous cars.
Complaint received via e-mail. , i am writing this in reference to my 2001 mazda 626. In the summer of 2004 i took my mazda 626 into mazda because the transmission was not shifting properly, the car had about 49,500 miles on it. They serviced the transmission and said it was low on fluids, and sent us along. Then, on november 10, 2004,2001 mazda 626 was in the shop at a certified mazda dealership getting the transmission replaced, the cost of which i was partially held responsible for. Mazda picked up the tab for the transmission, and in return i was charged for the labor and a 60,000 mile service. I am well aware that i am not the only person to experience problems with the mazda 626, the web contains testimonials from others whoexperienced the same problem, some at lower mileage. Something should be done about the faulty transmissions that mazda has been using.i am sure they were well aware of the defects. The problem has been ongoing since 1996.
The transmission failed in the consumer's 2001 mazda 626.
Auto was purchased brand new, three months later, the transmission, computer and wiring was replaced.three years later , the transmission has packed up again.
O/d light flashing tranny new then fixed four times thereafter.still having shifting problems. 2001 madza 626lx. Started at about 50,000 miles.about $1000.00 out of pocket expences sure to incur more.
2001 mazda 626 transmission failed while driving on highway. Could have been killed. Is at transmission shop right now being replaced. Only have approx 56 thousand miles on car, should not have transmission problems, i see many many other mazda 626 have same problem. Mazda should have to pay even if off warranty.
After being parked my car went in reverse when put into drive, i put on the brakes and shiftedinto park and the car still went backwards, the same with neutral. Turned the car off and the car was dead. If this had happened at traffic signal i would have been in an accident. The car dealer mentioned they had seen the same problem in 10 same model cars with the same problem. The shifter bushing was replaced, was told this part will wear outin 3-4 years time, the bushing should have been made in a stronger rubber material.
I own a 2001 mazda 626 4 cyl. My car's transmission usually runs in third gear on long trips and doesn't shift to the over drive. Also, there is a delay when shifting from second to third and from third to overdrive. It works fine shifting from first to second gear. This is a really annoying thing coming from this car. I already did a transmission flush to solve the issue but it worked fine for just a couple of days and it is just as it was at the beginning. I hope someone takes care of this because there is a lot of disappointed customers due to this common issue in this vehicle.
Thanks.
1. Transmission suddenly quit.2. Driver and vehicle were stranded in unsafe area.3. Replaced transmission a two thousand dollar cost.
Automatic trans. Will not go into gear,or will engage park.trans. Rebuilt. After 18 months same problem returned!
The transmission on my 01 mazda 626 is broken. It won't shift from third to fourth gear. I know this is a problem with almost every 626 that has a cd4e transmission. So the transmission is obviously defective.
I have a 2001 mazda 626. I am being told by the dealer i should not drive the car due to the potential transmission failure could lead to an accident or death and property damage.my research shows that this vehicle has a history of transaxles failure and i want to notify the nhtsa of this issue.
Problems with transmission. The dealership advised to go for rebuilt one and charged me over $3000 with taxes. I think mazda should take some responsibility looking at so many other incidences that i found on the web.
The contact owns a 2001 mazda 626.the contact stated that the vehicle has been leaking transmission fluid for a while.the dealer stated that the transmission casing was cracked and would cost $1,500 to repair.the dealer then stated that the cause of failure was the output seal.the third diagnosis was labeled as a faulty seal.the contact returned to the dealer three additional times because of the transmission leak.the dealer finally sent him to a transmission repair shop where he was told that the cause of failure was the axle sleeve.the leak has been repaired and now the overdrive light has begun blinking.the purchase date was unknown.the current mileage is 104,000 and failure mileage was 98,000.
Hard shifting for a couple of weeks. Had a blow out same night transmission messed up. Won't go into gear until it past 2.5 rpm's. Took to transmission spec. Said it was over heating also need a new torque converter, need to install transmission cooler.
2001 mazda 626 lx transmission. Transmission problems:shift hunting, lurching, inability to select gears, vibration, noise, harsh starts, slow starts, chugging, slipping.second transmission in vehicle (dealer/warranty rebuilt transmission installed by dealer).
My 2001 mazda 626 was brought to the dealer while still under warranty due to a burning smell in the engine.the car also smelled musty as if water were leaking somewhere.the dealer adjusted the moonroof screws out in the parking lot and claims no burning smell was present. At approximately 50 miles over the warranty, the stereo display stopped illuminating and mazda would not cover the $300 repair.at around 70,000 miles, the overdrive light suddenly began to flash continuously. The car started to chug up hills and jerk when shifting into drive.i notified mazda immediately, thinking it was an electrical problem as stated in the owner's manual.the dealer said to drive it in.on the way, the car quickly got worse, would not accelerate over 40 mph and stalled while merging onto the highway.the car was unable to go into reverse.the dealer said, "bad news, you need a new tranny".unprofessional and ignorant words to me.i paid another transmission company for towing and a rebuilt transmission since mazda wanted over $3,000.he stated that many mazda 626 transmissions have been failing too early since they were built with a ford transmission, not capable for a car like the 626.mazda must have had some good reason to offer 0 percent financing then suddenly stop making the long existing and once reliable 626. I strongly feel that the numerous and similar complaints should be investigated.there are probably several other owners of the 626 out there repairing their transmissions too early and unaware to file a complaint.thank you for your time.
I have had to replace my transmission three times now.twice under warranty once out of my pocket and the latest lasted only 13,000 so its not covered again.
Due to a low quality of my vehicle's transmission, it stopped on the road while i was driving. To illustrate, two days after purchasing a used 2001 mazda 626, i noticed the transmission's weakness [no power, sluggish and unresponsive].to claim, immediately i called to the mazda-dealership sales department and explain the issues and i requested a repair or service. After a short conversation with the sales department for returning the car, mr. Dave wilson agreed to fix the problems, so he transferred my call to the dealerships service center manager, mr. Steve pollard.based on my phone conversation with the manager, i went to the center to get the problems fixed. However, mr. Steve pollard by rejecting my request for a transmission-replacement, after a minor check, he fixed the audio-set and the steering wheel noise only.after picking up the car, i found the same weak transmission problem. I called back to the service center, and reminded the problem but the manager gave the same reply as before (there is no problem with the transmission). Then he asked: do you have an extended warranty? yes, i said. Then he added: don't worry and advised me to use it for any future major problems! as a result, i started to use and drive the powerless car with its weak transmission, not only carefully and stressfully for 2 years, but also full of anxiety and depression, until it stopped on the road completely.unfortunately, after towing the car to the center for the same issue, transmission repair/replacement, later, i was reminded that the car is not under warranty any more, and i must pay a total cost of $3148.46 from my pocket!!
Faulty/defective transmissions are being used in mazda vehicles well after the manufacturer knew about the issue. There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of individuals and companies who have had their transmissions go out...many with well under 60k miles. And, many have been through several transmissions before 100k miles. All of the problem vehicles share the same symptoms: od light flashing off and on, and transmission slipping in and out of gear, as the transmission burns up, literally from poor design and implementation which doesn't allow for proper air flow and cooling. This problem is widely acknowledged by the manufacturer, car owners, dealers, service centers, and other automotive professionals. Proof of this fact was a notice sent out to dealers that there is a cooling kit "available" for this transmission that should aid in keeping the transmission cool. However, this is not a free addition! mazda is actually charging customers to add a fix to their design flaw! i feel this problem is not only a fraudulent issue, but is also a safety issue. People could be (and may have already been) severely injured or killed, by having their transmission go out as they attempt to enter high traffic, high-speed areas, such as a freeway.i was not even notified about the transmission problem by mazda and only found out about it after my transmission failed.i am exploring the possibility of filing a class action law suit against mazda corporation.
My mazda 626, year 2001 has a problem with the transmission. At first the car would not go into reverse, then the entire transmission failed. I spoke with a co-worker that had the same problem with her mazda 626. Is there a recall on the mazda. Please help me with the repairs, i can't afford to get the vehicle fixed.
Transmission failure at 65,000 miles. Flashing o/d light. Replaced transmission in 2/05 after $300 75 mile tow. 07/06 at 83000 miles o/d light engages automatically. Cannot get above 50 mph. Shifting from 1st to 2nd very rough. Dealership unable to identify problem without computer code that does not show any diagnostics.
Driving on interstate 95 south from richmond, va. At approx. 70 mph when auto transmission jumped out of gear, causing sudden deceleration.was able to exit interstate highway by pulling to my right and driving slowly until exit ramp was reached.car was able to limp home to raleigh, nc by taking secondary roads and not totally stopping for stop signs as transmission did not want to pull car away from a total stop.this car only has 73k miles on it and it not driven harshly nor has it ever pulled a trailer.transmission needs to be replaced according to mechanics.they also say this model transmission has bad reputation within the repair industry.appears that i will need to purchase a "rebuilt" transmission and have it installed.
Transmission failed twice. First time, just driving home from work and the second time after an hour highway drive.
I bought a 2001 mazda 626 in 2002 with 23,000 miles up until now haven't had any problems. I was driving down the freeway and my overdrive light started blinking, the car made it home i took it to the shop and they said my transmission needed to be rebuilt. There is only 117,000 miles on the car,so i got online and searched the problem and come to find that there are pages upon pages of mazda 626 owners with automatic transmissions who have or had the same problem's.the shop that i took my car to said mazda/ford made a bad transmission for several years!!!.i wish the car manufactures would make up for there mistakes and not keep passing them onto the consumers.. Thanks tim keblis
The o/d on my 2001 mazda 626 is not disengaging. I noticed in march when i was at a traffic light and my care started out super slow like my car was taking off in 4th gear. It shifted gears real fast and after about 1 minute, the o/d off light started flashing. The only way to get it to stop was by turning the car off and back on. The o/d does not disengage at all now. I have read so many reports of the costs people are paying with similar problems that i have had to manually turn off the o/d everytime i slow down and stop to avoid this issue and i have not had the issue since i started doing this. I am hoping that turning the o/d off manually each time i stop will save my transmission.
Mazda 626 transmission failure, at 75,000 miles.dangerous, especially if the manufacturer knows this transmission is faulty.was travelling on a freeway in heavy traffic ... Car stalled immediately.could not move the car out of traffic lanes ...very dangerous result.
O/d light flashing tranny new then fixed four times thereafter.still having shifting problems. 2001 madza 626lx. Started at about 50,000 miles.about $1000.00 out of pocket expences sure to incur more.
Mazda 626lx transmission went three times and the car is only 3 years oldmobile.
While trying to park and when shifting from neutral or drive, unless release button is firmly held in all the way, shift lever will stop in the reverse position, consumers unaware of this will think they are in park, release button has to be in all the way in order for it to shift into park.*jg
A year ago the shifter cable on my 2001 mazda 626 broke (car under warranty at the time).i telephoned the local dealer and the cable was on backorder indicating many others were having the same problem a local mechanic put a bushing where the cable was attached to the shifter arm at transmission to replace the failed part.that worked fine until yesterday (8-6-04).i put the car in reverse to exit a parking lot and could not shift into drive.at present, a cable tie is on the cable to hold it in place.i telephoned the dealer again this morning, he said mazda is aware of the problem and the dealer has also talked to mazda but has not issued a recall.the cable is now available now that our warranty has expired. This is a safety issue.the first failure, we had our grandson in his safety seat, our car cranked, backed into the street, stopped and would not shift.cars turning into the intersection could not see us because of buildings.we pushed the car out of the street.it appearsthe bushing that connects cable onto shifter is made out of nylon/plastic and forced onto pin.this apparently fails due to heat or being split when mounted.
Automatic transmission failure at 41,000 miles.
Retaining clip from transmission gearshift lever (on transaxle assembly) was found missing and shift cable became disconnected from lever causing vehicle to be stuck in reverse (the gear vehicle was in when component failed). This could have been a dangerous situation as shifter indicator showed vehicle in drive.*la

Eratic shifting in mazda 626 automatic transmission.axle seal broke. Dealership repaired the part. Factory transmission replaced after 30,000 miles. The axle seal was replaced after 33,000 miles.
While driving children to school my car started losing speed and the rpms were way high. Pulled over to side of highway and was not able to go in any gear. Luckily i pulled over when i did. Car was towed to transmission shop and was told they see so many mazda vehicles come in because mazda put in a ford transmission made for a smaller vehicle. Therefore the transmission burns out. Was told my transmission needed rebuilt and to add this cooling unit $2,100.00. Thank you mazda for keeping your customers informed of this. If i had known that it needed this cooling unit or my transmission would burn up, i would have spent the $140.00 for the unit. But mazda did not feel that their customers were privy to this information. Never will by mazda again!!!!!
Vehicle was hit a 30 mph in the front center of the vehicle but the air bag did not deploy causing minor injuries to the consumer.the drivers seat belt did not hold and as a result the driver head went through he windshield.the dealer was notified. Ts *nlm
While driving 35 mph vehicle collided witha telephone pole.upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy.the seat belts did not lock up, and driversustained minor injuries. Vehicle was towed to the dealer for inspection, but dealer did not resolve the problem.
On two occasionsseat belt retractor failed to operate, leaving occupants without any restraint.dealer notified and made repairs. Consumer states the seat belt are pulled out to make it lock for child safety seats, consumer states the first failure rear and middle belts broke, belt would hang and not retract, second and third occasions belts would get twisted inside frame and would not pull out and retract.
Dt: the contact'schild was trapped in the left rear seat belt. The buckle assembly unlatched after several attempts.however, the strap tightened around the child, limiting movement and resulting inan injury.in an effort to free the child the strap was cut by the contact. Our mazda 2001 tribute has been leaking brake fluid and mechanic said it may be something with master cylinder.after searching the internet i found mazda had a recall (#6712a) that covered 2001-2002 model year tribute suvs for a faulty brake master cylinder reservoir cap.we called mazda and spoke to a rep.katrina said "your car does not qualify because you do not have abs brakes".whether we have abs brakes or not we should be able to have our car checked in this recall for our safety.we should not be excluded from this recall.please let us know what needs to be done.

2001 mazda 626 at 30,000 mile check.rotors are rusting more thanusual, with only about 70% contact with the break pads.itstill under warranty, but not a warranty. According to the dealership.they claims that this is a wear and tear item.i claim that this is a safety issue.the average for repair work on breaks is about 40-50,000 miles.this is well under that and 90% highway driving.this issue needs to be evaluated.
I own a 2001 mazda 626 with 45,000 miles.high mileage do to 90%hiway drivingin my work. At about 38000 miles noticed a violent vibration when braking at hi speed and a loud clunk when brakes applied. Dealer said no warranty normal wear and tear. Dealer advised me to get the rotors turned when the brake pads wear out at around 80000 to 90000 miles. They said the clunking sound is normal when the rotors are warped. Dealer said warrnty does not cover routine maintenance. Defective brake at 38000 highway miles is not routine in my opinion. Last time i will own a mazda.
When the brakes were applied, the vehicle vibrated severely.
The contact owns a 2001 mazda 626. While driving 15 mph, and slowing down to make a turn into a parking lot, the steering wheel emitted smoke and burst into flames. The police department extinguished the fire, but did not file a report. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. An independent mechanic replaced the steering wheel. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.
Consumer state driver side door locks consumer inside and outside of vehicle dealer and manufacture has been contacted. Please provide further information. Ts

In august 2001, i purchased a brand new mazda 626.in may 2003, i started to experience major problems with the car.at 23,000 miles, the following had to be replaced: transmission assembly, thermostat and radiator sub-tank.at 31,000 miles, my car was in the shop for 11 days in order to replace the following: mass air flow sensor, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, valve idle air control, thermostat gasket and the throttle body gasket.now at 48,000 miles, i returned from a trip, got in my car and started driving.after a couple of minutes, i noticed that the thermostat was really hot, then the engine light came on and immediately the car died and started smoking (left my husband and myself stranded on the 405 fwy at midnight).i was told i need a new engine (engine long block, all water hoses, radiator, knock sensor, gasket set and spark plugs).the cost: $8400.they offered to reduce the cost to $5200, however i don't see how this is helpful for the car is probably worth less than that and even if they did replace the parts i have no doubt that they would just start falling apart again.i drive my car less than 10 miles a day, so i definitely do not think that all this damage is from normal wear and tear, rather i believe that mazda is making inferior parts.
