I have a 2000 mazda 626 6 cylinder and for some reason it has started to just periodically cut off when at a stop, feels like if i hit my brakes a certain way, it will cut off. I have also heard 2 other people with same vehicle with like problem. Please advise if any other complaints on the above.

Engine check light and battery light came on, came on five times, the first time dealer replaced broken idler pulley belt bolt, second time dealer replaced alternator, third time dealer replaced ignition switch, fourth time transmission range sensor was replaced, and fifth time clutch pedal switch was replaced, at this time engine check light is on again.consumer states when the vehicle was driven off the lot the first day, there was a horrific screeching noise from the right front wheel, consumer assumed that it was a new car noise and it would eventually go away, consumer was inforemd that something had slipped in the wheel area, over the next two weeks consumer complained to the dealer that vehicle was making an extremly loud thumping noise, the problem was diagnosed as the freon system which was then flushed and then refilled to the correct level, which was done to take out the air bubbles in the air condition line, also the air condition was blowing hot air, the center console would not latch, numerous componets were replaced on the vehicle due to the engine light coming on and the problem still exists.

I own a 2000 mazda 626 with only 90,000 miles. I have been stranded several times in this car and spent over $3000 parts and labor. I had to replace the catalytic converter, several sensors, master break cylinder, cv boots, and rack and pinion. Now i am having trouble with the transmission and the ac. The mechanic says i need to rebuild the trans and replace the ac compressor. This is another $3000 or more. I am very disappointed in this situation. I plead with you to take action on this. I have checked several web forums and found similar problems. Please, please make mazda accountable for building such bad cars. Fyi, i am very, very diligent in general maintenance. Thanks for your time. Chris.

Actually i have lived with this problem since approx. Yr.2003one day i adjusted the lever for the brights or indicator and it felt as if it disengaged and was loose from then on. It seems that the light switch which connects with the indicator signals, intermittently the left headlight would go in and out (must have replace it three times until my husband realized it wasn't the bulb but the switch seemed to have broken loose)until recently the indicator switch would shut out the lights once i complete a turn and the switch re-adjust in place. This would happen occasionally with the brights on also.it would vary and you never know when it may happen.now the switch for the brights are not working at all.

2000 mazda 626 lx 4 cyl. On march 1st 2006, my speedometer dropped to zero while driving at a continuous speed (45 mph) this happened several times within a half hour period before the engine light came on. On march 2nd, i drove the car to the local mazda dealership for a diagnostic. According to the dealership, the diagnostic revealed that the speed sensor was bad. However, they also related that the sensor was replaced and that the problem was still there. The dealership proceeded with a search of the wiring in order to determine what the problem was. This was done at an hourly rate of $85.00 an hour. On march 6th, a broken wire was found at the firewall. It took them 7.5 hours to make this determination. On march 11th, while on the expressway, my o/d light began flashing off and on continuously. It also began bucking and jerking and would slip in and out of gears. This is the first time this has ever happened with this car. I just hit 95,000 miles and i purchased it new in may 2000.

A few weeks ago my 2000 mazda 626 was bucking in reverse, then it would start doing the same thing in drive if i was stopped. I took it to a transmission place and they had to rebuild my transmission. There was a code coming up about the park neutral swith that it wasn't getting any power and made the tall converter go and when that happened it ruined my transmission.the check engine light still remained on my car was then sent to a mazda dealership where it still is now and they cannot figure out the problem. I am still without a car this is going on the third week and i still without an answer. They thought it might have been the computer leading up to these incidents but they are still unsure. Please let me know if there is anything regarding a recall. Thank you.

Purchased used mazda 262, year 2000, that happened to have original known-faulty cd4e. Car now inoperable after less than a thousand miles after leaving the lot. Occasional acceptable operation, interspersed with transmission slipping/losing gear/no power, nearly caused a rear-end accident going uphill on freeway.

The contact owns a 2000 mazda 626. When the vehicle was started, there was an abnormal odor of fuel inside the cabin. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer (perry ford, 440 hitchcock way, santa barbara, ca 93105 (805) 682-2411), but the failure was unable to be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and did not assist. The failure mileage was 44,825. The vin was not available.

While commuting, the car stopped shifting. Took it to mechanic--they fixed a leak in the transmission fluid-- car was then shifting hard, took to transmission shop--they diagnosed two problems that caused the leak. The transmission is not effectively pushing the fluid through the system, and was very dangerous on the road when it stopped shifting.

I purchased a 2000 mazda 626 used in 2001. I took the car in for repairs to the cincinnati jake sweeny mazda shop to address the shaking and noises that i was hearing from the front and rear of the vehicle. I was told that the car was okay the motor mounts were fine and that the noise was from a bottle of aspirin in the glove box. The noise continued and other shops continued to inform me that my motor mounts were bad. I was again informed by the repair shop that the car was fine. The vehicle now has 140,000 miles on it and the motor mounts, sway link bar and struts are all shot to heck. I am very disappointed being that this issue was addressed when the car was under warranty and the dealership neglected to fix the problem which now has escalated.

The contact owns a 2000 mazda 626.the contact stated that she noticed a gas smell on the inside and outside of the vehile.in addition, she only noticed the fumes after the vehicle had been parked for an extended amount of time.the dealer inspected the vehicle numerous times however they were unable to diagnose the failure.as of february 22, 2008, the dealer had not repaired the vehicle.the failure mileage was 100 and current mileage was 22,000.

The vehicle over heated twice. No leaks were noticed and anti freeze was added. The mechanic then noticed an open valve covered with a rubber cap had allowed anti freeze to leak onto engine.

Suddenly the engine temperature went high easily when driving. The check engine light turned on with dtc(diagnostic trouble codes) p0125 error(temp. Insufficienr for closed loop fule control, the coolant). The dealers checked the cooling system and found that the coolant overflow bottle was leaking. Had to replace it.

Mazda 1996 626 and a mazda 2000 626.both 4 cyl and both automatics, and both having to have transmissions replaced.leaves you stranded on the road, and causes bad shifts in speed before you stop going forward completely.

Engine had been serviced initially ten days after date of purchase.constant problems with knocking and jolting when putting vehicle in gear.major acceleration problems.vehicle was towed to dealer several times.during one incident vehicle refused to start, and leaked all transmission fluid on flatbed truck.final incident check engine light indicator illuminated, vehicle was taken back to dealership.light was reset by dealership.vehicle's engine has now seized at 36,000 km.

The check engine light illuminated on the dash board.

The cylinder heads have failed twice due to internal failure and a crack near the #2 cylinder spark plug hole causing the rpm's to be very high, when putting the vehicle in drive it suddenly slams into gear, when accelerating from a stop position the engine races and when the vehicle is started it shakes and trembles as if the vehicle is going to shut off.nlm

Engine overheated and lost power andvehicle stalled. Alsovehicle was leaking oil.

Engine failed and mazda dealership refused to cover warranty. The car only has 30,000 miles. There is no reason for engine failure other than an engine defect. Dt

The rpm goes from 0 to 5 and sometimes in the red zone.

Consumer was told vehicle has ca emissions package, since october 2000, vehicle has been stalling, engine stumbles in cold weather, and getting worse. Dealer cannot remedy, mazda stated only 4 cylinder vehicles do that.

When automatic gear is placed in reverse, gear hesitates for a few seconds before the car actually begins to move..at 98000 i had to replace catalytic converter at selma mazda in selma, ca..

Vehicle began to make pinging noise, that was only noticeable under heavy acceleration, thus causing me, the driver, to acclerate with gingerly. Approx. One day after the engine made pinging noise no matter how fast or slow the vehicle accelerated, eventually leading up to the following: the car was at a speed of approx 55-60 mph on the freeway, when all of a sudden the pinging got louder, the engine lost all power, a loud noise occured, something appeared to shoot from underneath the vehicle, and smoke began to pour from under the hood. After the vehicle was towed to a local service station, i was then told that an engine rod blew through the engine block, thus requiring a new engine. Approx 1 1/2 to 2 weeks prior an oil change was performed on the vehicle, and thereafter the car ran with no problems at all up until the pinging occurance. The vehicle is currently under manufacturer extended warrant, but has not been determined whether it covered under warrant at this point or not.

One of the park light stopped working before 1 year of purchase. Airconditioner compressor makes a very distinct "click" noise inside the car. This noise is too high compared to other cars. Mazda mechanic says its normal. The worst problem i faced was the transmission problem. Its erratic, doesn't cross 2nd gear, and makes a scary jerk at lower speeds when the gear shifts from 2nd to 1st gear upon removing leg from gas peddal. Had to tow the car twice to dealer. Its disgusiting transmission. Appriciate if somebody could tell me alternatives to get the problem fixed and suggest next action at [email protected] i have a new car, but can't go on ling drives as it is unreliablefrustrating

I am actually writing to report a problem i have with other vehicles on the road - specifically suvs and other small trucks, as well as vehicles using xenon lamps in their headlights.these vehicles have on numerous occassions blinded me while driving; the xenon lamps from oncoming traffic, and the trucks from behind.the xenon lamps are too bright for an oppossing driver to see past at night; frequently, it has been my experience that they are as bright or even brighter than high beams of most normal lamps.the trucks are a problem from even quite a distance away for drivers of sedans and smaller cars; when my husband drives, the headlamps of trucks reflect directly into his eyes through the rearview mirror (he is 6 ft tall, average height of a man in this country), as well as from the sideview mirror depending on the position of the truck behind us.i would strongly urge you to consider banning the xenon headlamps altogether, and to consider forming some sort of regulation that would dictate the height of headlamps of all vehicles (excepting semis) to within a range that will not interfere with the driving capabilities of any drivers on the road.

D&m autobrokers sold me a "death trap" vehicle that could not pass deq emissions testing. Multiple things kept going wrong, and the dealership had many opportunities to fix the issues. Eventually, all the issues with the vehicle and the numerous lies i was being fed were too overwhelming, i gave the vehicle back to the dealership and made a deal with gold acceptance finance company as well as the dealership d&m autobrokers for d&m autobrokers to purchase the loan back from gold acceptance and pay it off in full. This agreement was written and signed as well as a verbal agreement and understanding. The dealership made one payment that initially paid off half of the balance of the loan, and then decided to not pay the loan off in full at all, or send a single payment. My credit is now in the danger zone, they still have at least $3000 owed on the loan, and they are now claiming their out of business. I have complained to all the credit bureau's as well as the department of justice. Gold acceptance has been so wonderful in leading me in the right direction as well as providing help to get this taken care of. I do need this complaint to go through. This dealership has par-taken a role in my unemployment, as well as endangering my daughters and my life, as well as horrify my credit. I am requesting d&m autobrokers llc, be requested and made to pay this loan off, as well as all negative marks be removed from my credit.please contact me @ [xxx] thank you. There is a gasoline odor that can be detected while inpassenger compartment ofvehicle. Dealership has not examinedvehicle to determine cause ofproblem.please provide any additional information / documentation.

I have had my mazda 626 for 6 months, since then i have replaced the front brakes, rotors and suspension, fuel pump and now the transmission. I need to also fix the rear breaks, rotors and suspension and haven't had the money. This car is the biggest flop i have ever owned and it only has 57,000 miles on it.

While driving vehicle started leaking gas. This couldhave resulted in a fire if it went unnoticed.dealership indicated that this was caused bygas line breaking.incident was preceded by gas odor. It leaked from under the vehicle and made a large puddle when stopped. Vehicle was never in a accident and was routinely maintained by the dealer. The dealer replaced the gas line as a goodwill gesture. *ph

Transmission failure. Car is parked, and won't go into gear.seems to be a common issue for this make and model car.

Car was purchased less than six months ago from days chevrolet in acworth ga.as per aamco transmissions of union city georgia, car will need a rebuilt transmission to function properly.

My 2000 mazda 626 (automatic) began "jerking" during acceleration. While accelerating there is an initial pause and then the car jerks as speed increases. It seems as though the car is having difficulty switching gears. Within 10 minutes the check engine light came on. I immediately went to a repair shop. They indicated the error codes suggest there is something wrong with the transmission converter and that i will need to replace or rebuild the transmission. Estimated costs for this are from $3100 to almost $4000.

Transmission overheated on the freeway, blew out temperature gauge and no longer shifted after that. Speed sensor stopped working. Had to get rebuilt transmission and transmission cooler and several other parts replaced. The repair only lasted 6 months before the transmission went out again. It just slipped gears and stopped shifting in the middle of the road.

Driving in the highway but abruptly it slowed down and can't speed up while i was in the traffic, it was almost bumped to stop, terrifying trucks were chasing behind me.this is a transmission failure. Terrible, and a big safety issue too.

Transmissions failure on the 2000 mazda 626.

Transmission and engine/ transmission mount failure on my 2000 mazda 625 4 cylinder auto. Mileage 117,000. Overhaul costs $2300 two months ago replaced cv joints. This is premature failure in my opinion. Most vehicles exceed 160,000 before they start having this type of failure.

(1) hesitation in shifting.(2) transmission failure(3) rebuild with aamco.

Transmission failure, mazda 626, year 2000. This is the second failure. Following computer codes led to $800 in unnecessary repairs. Car drives well until o/d begins to flash, rpm fluxes between 1000 and 5000 and tranny slips. On parking and shutting off motor then restarting and shifting into drive tranny slams into gear with a bang. Never know when rpm is going to go crazy and the transmission to slip. This causes a mad scramble to get to the side of the road which is sometimes hard as you may be in the passing lane. Cost estimates range from $1800 + 400 600 for install for a rebuilt transmission from a dealer of transmissions specifically for this car. This model/transmission combination is used on about the 10 preceding years. Taken together they present a good case for a dealer recall i would think. Even though mazda issued a tsb it is only meant to delay the problem until ultimate transmission failure.

I have a 2000 mazda 626 and it keeps slipping into and out of drive, revving the rpms.a mechanic drove it, analyzed it and says it needs a new transmission.

The transmission gave out. 112,000 miles. I got the transmission replaced, and right after the warranty was over, the transmission gave out.the o/d light comes on, the car overheats, and it does not shift into 4th gear.

We recently bought this 2000 mazda 626 used for our twin boys, as their first car.we had it checked out by our local mechanic and he found a few normal things wrong with it and i was okay with those things.the problem i am having now is this;the o.d. Warning light now comes on and flashes.it had never occurred before.this began while driving on the highway for the first time (we never had a reason to go onto the highway) on this day we did and all of a sudden the car begins to de accelerate and the tach needle start bouncing around and the car does not want to accelerate. The o.d. Light came on and now comes on very often at all times and roads.the next day i took it to my local mazda dealer to have it checked out.they found two codes wrong with it ( p1746 and p1783 ).they reset the computer and told me that if the problem persist, that i would need to replace the transmission, they also told me that it is not a repairthat is covered by any warranty because the warranty has already expired.i have gone on the internet and have found that this a very common problem with this vehicle and any vehicles with this transmission. It is obviously a defect in the transmission. I have not repaired it yet, because i can not afford to repair it.if this problem occurs so often why doesn't mazda declare it a recall and fix the problem.

2nd transmission replacement by mazda dealer in only 4 months.

Whenever vehicle has been started, it would shake and tremble. Had takenvehicle to dealer, but problem had not been or could not be resolved. Mechanic did adjust transmission, but another mechanic indicated that transmission was stuck in 2nd gear and proceeded to repair it.

Typical drive home. Car will not go into gear. Taking to the shop tomorrow.

O/d free light on dash board keeps flashing.rpms at idle jump sporadically.while driving, the transmission can not make up it's mind what gear it should be in.this makes the mazda 626 lx unpredicable, therefore, unsafe.

No specific event lead to this, just parking the car normally running an errand and trying to drive home.the first time this happened (about 9 months ago) my daughter was stuck at 11pm the car would not move into any gear. The tow truck driver told us the cable underneath probably disengaged. We towed it to our repair shop and they replaced the cable. Since then when the car is in reverse it intermittently seems to stick causing it to delay moving or jerking back. We brought it back to the shop and insisted they put on a new cable . Last week (approx aug 24th) my daughter once again called that the car would not move out of the parking space, it wouldn't go into any gear. The tow truck again towed us to the shop where they reported that the cable was fine etc and they couldn't locate the problem. This costs me money and timeeverytime i have to leave work, get it towed and spend repair fees.not to mention the added stress of the car being unreliable. I decided to look for recalls and known defects out here. I cannot believe that with the number of problems reported mazda/ford is not helping those of us who are loyal to mazda. I purchased 2(used) from hertz and a 2005 mazda 6 a few months ago. With 3 mazdas sitting in my driveway im especially interested to see what's being done about this problem. Why hasn't mazda/ford paid for the transmission problem ??? maybe we should start a class action suit>i expect at the least repair to my vehicle whether or not it means a new transmission, not a used or rebuilt one. Im still making payments on this car! the funny thing is a few years back i had a ford taurus that jerked forward so badly it caused me to have an accident, i wish i had known about this problem before.in addition weve already had the axles replaced, and several brake jobs but the brakes continue to squeak like they need new brakes.

I am still paying for a 2000 mazda 626 which just had its warranty run out and now my automatic transmission isn't working.i was driving home from my job in mountain view and was stopped in traffic, when i was able to go i stepped on the gas and the car did not want to go.i switched back and forth between 1st and second and finally got my car to go.while i was driving it was revving up and the o/d off switch started flashing.i finally and barely made it home.now when i put the car in any gear it won't go anywhere. Mazda said there isn't anything they can do about it since my warranty is up. I now am making payments every month for a very big paper weight.i cannot afford the huge expense of fixing this problem which after looking around on the internet found seems to be a common problem.

When putting car into drive it will suddenly slam into gear, next day consumer had vehicle towed to dealer, and they said that transmission was completely gone.

Transmission lurches and delays on the shifts after highway driving. Check engine light went on due to transmission problem.the original transmission and the replaced transmission had the same problems.

Transmission shifts hard from first to second gear.dealer says i will need a new one soon.the car was never abused and was always taken care off.

I own a 2000 mazda 626, for the last week and a half the vehicle has been at the montgomery mazda (charlotte, nc) dealership twice and it is still not repaired.the first time i took it, i clearly told them that while driving the vehicle began to act as if it is trying to change gears but can't (automatic transmission and i am already in going 45 mph so it should be in the 5th gear) the rpms go up to 4 and then it jerks (hard) when it catches up and the rpms drop. They claimed that it needed a tune up, new spark plug wires (i already replaced these twice) and a new fuel filter.i spent $356 to get all of this done and on the way to work the car did the same thing again.i called them back and told them that the problem was still not fixed and they claimed that they didn't know what it could be.i took the car back again that following monday at 7:30 am (originally took it there on thursday, june 1, 2006) and they claimed that they were going to look at the vehicle and find out what the problem is.after waiting for about 5 hours i called since i didn't hear anything from them and another service person told me that my car had just been sitting there.when i went to pick it up, then they told me that it might be the engine relay or maybe the transmission.i asked them if they checked it they stated no.i took the vehicle to another transmission place and the person stated that it was low on transmission fluid and that was the problem but after they fixed that the car was still doing the same thing.i looks as if i will need a new transmission.every mechanic i have talked to since thinks it is the transmission, i found that mazda released a bulletin telling the their mechanics what to do if od off light is flashing after long driving and the transmission is slipping and the mazda service department didn't even mention it and i clearing told them that it only does it after i have been riding for a while.

Transmission failure on 2000 mazda 626 -- 6 cyl.automobile serviced regularly.repairs costing small fortune.common problem among 626's.expecting to have to go through this again at some point.

1) driving on local and interstate highways for approximately 2 hrs, transmission began shifting irregularly and erratically.sometimes it would skip a shift, or downshift suddenly causing vehicle to lurch to a stop, or slower speed.2) took car to mazda dealer.his diagnosis was complete and total transmission failure.this was confirmed by another independent.there was no fix available other than a complete rebuild.there was no advance warning or earlier signs of trouble.3) had transmission completely rebuilt.cost was $2,000 plus cost of a rental car.

The over drive light in my 2000 mazda 626 4 cylinder kept coming on and it would lose power after i drive for about 20 miles on the highway, when i pull over, shut off the engine and start the car,the od light would go off and the car would run normally. The transmission was also hesitating. Finally the over drive light came on and the transmission failed, the car had 79,705 miles. I had the car towed to a garage where it was determined that the direct clutch hub & shell, solenoid assembly, drive chain and forward torque converter failed. The transmission was rebuilt with brand new parts and the radiator was changed. This appeared to resolve the problem.

There were no signs that the transmission would fail, after reading the forums, this is clearly an improperly designed transmission. If i would have read the forums before the failure i would have traded in the car while it had some value. Hopefully you are reading this before your 626 tranny fails. The estimates for the repair were $3500 and there was $1800 left on the note. We only got $500 for the trade. The repair didn't make sense after reading about all the tranny problems this car has.

I noticed that the car seened to be "racing," but not accelerating much.it also hesitated when shifting gears.the next time i drove, the car began to completely lack any acceleration whatsoever and eventually just stopped.it will currently not shift into any gear and is not driveable.

Driving in city traffic, parked in parking space, started to leave, pulled transmission shifter into reverse and car went forward. Could not get car to go in reverse so it was towed because of transmission failure, appears transmission must be replaced again.

On 11/22/07 my wife noticed that the o/d off light was flashing on her 2000 mazda 626 and the transmission was not engaging in first gear completely.on 12/7/07 while traveling on interstate highway 894 the car completely lost all forward movement from the transmission.she was lucky enough that traffic was light and she was able to coast to the side of the highway.

Faulty transmission.

Transmission repaired for supposed leak in march 2006 at dealership and was not called in under my extended warranty, then in aug. 2006 car will not move when put in any gear, the dealership is now closed and will not answer any questions of why they charged me with warranty work, also the nearest dealership is 75 miles away, i am a senior citizen and on a fixed income i cannot afford to tow it then make repairs that should have fallen under warranty work in the first place.also my extended warranty ran out july 1, 2006.i have exhausted all routes trying to get this resolved and feel i have been taken advantage of my mazda.

Transmission failed in my mazda 2000.

Dt: the contact statedtransmission was slipping in and out of gear.he took the vehicle to an independent repair shop, and the mechanic replaced the transmission.there were no further problems.the repair was made at thecontact'sexpense.

The contact owns a 2000 mazda 626.while attempting to accelerate, the vehicle would not shift from first into second gear.the vehicle came to a sudden stop and has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the current and failure mileages were 104,000.

Driving down highway 5, over drive light started flashing.no information in manual regarding flashing over drive light, so continued driving.about 50 miles later, lost power and speedometer dropped to zero.through aamco, found out about tsb regarding problem with at in my model year (2000) that caused it to overheat.failure caused me to spend extra money on towing, hotel, and rental car.car took approximately 2 weeks to repair at aamco, which included a rebuilt transmission and a cooling unit added to help prevent future problems.

Transmission failure on my 2000 mazda 626, 4-cylinder automatic transmission.

I am starting to have trouble on my 2000 mazda 626 automatictransmission. I have been doing some research on the issue and found that i am not the only one. Wasthere any recall or fix for the transmissions on these vehicles, without spending thousands of dollars?

My mazda 626 es, 2000 4 cylinder, need to have it's transmission replaced again.it broke one year ago in oct 2005 and this year it has broken once more and needs to be replaced.a yearly transmission change is overkill since i don't really drive in high stop and go situations, do due diligent maintenance, and do not drive in a manner which would tax the transmission.i believe, because of the second transmission failure, that is a product defect and causes an undue cost to consumers.

Consumer stated intermittently the engine roars and vehicle will lurch backward when in reverse..consumr also stated it happens when vehicle is in drive, the engine will roar and the tires start to spin, also the drivers seat belt is not retracting properly, the gear shift is making noises and it is difficult to go from drive to park etc.*yd

On march 29, 2005, med center mazda replaced both axles at 52, 248 miles.i asked them to check the transmission then because the car would jolt when put in the "drive" gear from reverse and then hestitate before moving forward.on january 11, 2006, the car would not move in the "drive" gear at all; almost leaving me stranded at the entrance of a major highway. I have not been able to use my car for work and i only live 10 miles from home and am not a "rough" driver.the dealership's attitude is "things happen"; that is not satisfactory!these complaints should be addressed by nhtsa; it is a safty hazard.i was almost hit by a tracker trailer because i could not get my car off to the side of the road quickly! the dealership representative admits that the ford transmission in the mazda car has had defects some of which were exactly like mine.further, on consumer.com; other consumers listed and described the same problem.mazda has not issued a recall even though there are 500 complaints listed on this site according to one writer on the consumer.com site.mazda says that it will cost $3,215 to repair.

The contact owns a 2000 mazda 626.the contact experienced issues with her transmission.she heard a crunching sound and the vehicle failed while driving at an unknown speed.the vehicle was towed to a transmission shop and a rebuilt transmission was installed at the cost of $3,200.in december of 2008, she noticed that the transmission was malfunctioning again.she took the vehicle to another repair shop and was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced again at the cost of $3,500.the contact spoke with the manufacturer years ago and received no assistance.the current mileage was approximately 125,000 and failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle's transmission overheated, and needed a new transmission.the service dealer determined the vehicle needed a external oil cooler to fix the issue.

My car started to shake and have a burning smell and when i took the car in they said that wires were misplaced by another mazda dealership i took it to about 8 months before.i then called back about a moth later and told them that my car jerks when it shifts gears.at that time they said that i just have slippage and may just need to add some transmission fluid .i did that and it seemed to help until last week when i was driving and stopped at a stop light and when it was time to go my car would not move.the rpm meter went into the red but my mph remained at 0.i had it towed to the dealership then they told me my transmission was gone and that it would be 3700 to repair.more than what the car is actually worth in good condition.

I own a '00 626 that i bought from my grandmother in 2-04, who had bought it new in '99. I have since had tranny issues on 2 occasions with the most recent requiring a complete replacement with what the tech. Described as "an identical failure prone unit". My grandmother had a new (not rebuilt) and identical transmission installed at ~42k miles as noted in the service log. I did a search on the web and i was shocked at what i found. Numerous cases of failure, at alarmingly similar intervals and all had the commonality of being equipped with auto. W/ odtranny mfg'd by ford and installed in 4 cyl. Mazda 626's. From what i can gather the high failure rate has somethingto do with "the inadequate cooling design" and subpar materials used in the "clutch packs". So because of this when it's all said and done with we will have shelled out ~$2500 (exc. Labor) for a rebuilt tranny that is expected to fail in less than 30k miles regardless of the service intervals. There are suggestions on the internet how to gain some addl. Life out of a unit, albeit small. To me it would seem this responsibility should fall on the manufacturer and not on the consumer. As a consumer i'm expected to trust an automobile manufacturer to properly design and test a vehicle and it's subsystem prior to releasing it upon the public. Failing that it would seem to me the manufacturer should be held accountable for flaws such as those not related to normal wear and tear as is apparent in this case. Which in turnsis what brings me here. When all else fails the consumer and public at large has only one advocate and that is the u.s. Government, which in the interest of safety and consumer rights has the authority to enforce this accountability. Everyone single person privy to this complaint should take a moment and consider anyone they know who owns or drives an automatic mazda 626 of the years 98-02 with the above mentioned generic and common configuration is impacted by this design flaw.

While driving to work on 01/25/2005 had overdrive switch off, andas the transmission got hot, the overdriveoff switch light started flashing.the car started making jurking movements like it was going to stall and proceeded on to work.

My 2000 mazda 626 transmission failed with 60000 miles on it. I had it in spec with vehichle maintenance of the transmission. I am still currently making payments with about 3500 to go and the mazda dealership said to replace the tranny itwill cost 3074.

Od off light on our 2000 mazda 626 lx started flashing.took the car to a local dealer (berge mazda in mesa az) and they diagnosed a code p1718- transmission overheating.they recommend to install a transmission cooler kit and perform a transmission service to correct the problem(estimate given -$1014.00-way too expensive!!!).went to another dealership (earnhardt's ford/mazda in chandler az) to get a second opinion and they made the same recommendations.both dealers stated that mazda issued a technical service bulletin about this problem (cd4e transmission) and addressed this issue with a transmission coolingkit install. We decided to have the work done at earnhardt's (total cost $344.00-more reasonableestimate). We purchased this vehicle at hertz car sales in nov 2001 with about 30,000 miles on it.shortly after we got it, the transmission was replaced by the dealer(berge mazda) because it was slipping. Since the car was still under the manufacturer's warranty(3 yr/50,000 miles), we didn't have to pay the cost of repairs. Our car currently has 51000 miles and since it's out of warranty, we had to shoulder the cost this time.i have been researching the internet and have found numerous complaints about mazda transmission failures. I believe that since mazda was aware of this problem, there should have been a recall for this type of transmission and remedied it by installing the transmission cooling kit free of charge to consumers.

We havemazda 626 4cyl, 2000 yr., automatic transmission.the transmission in our mazda always hesitates to shift up and revs up to very high rpms eventhough the acceleration is gradual.there is also quite a bit of noise in the car coming from engine when i am merging on a freeway.the transmission seems to be stuck in a lower gear.the transmission was replaced by the dealer in 2002. However, the same problem remains to this day.sometimes, when the car is cold, just when you start it in the morning, for example, the car accelerates suddenly and i almost hit my other car in a garage.

I was on my way to las vegas from california and my o/d light started to blink on and off.my speedometer went to 0 and i started to lose power.my engine was smoking so i pulled over and was stranded in the desert for around 45 min.come to find out my transmission over heated and went out on me.

I have a 2000 model mazda 626 with approximately 80,000 miles which i purchased new. The car recently started having automatic transmission problems and eventually was unsafe to drive. I called the service manager and explained the symptom's and was informed that the transmission in all likelihood would have to be replaced with a rebuilt unit since they do not perform transmission repairs.the cost would be from $2500 to $3000.i was very much upset with this, since i had the 60,000 mile service performed and no mention was made as to potential transmission problems.i called the mazda customer office and was told that the car was out of warranty and there was little they could do. I told the representing that i was very disappointed with their attitude and their lack of support.i had to take the car to a nearby transmission shop for repairs.the transmission had to be rebuilt at a cost of over $2100.the reason for my complaint is that i have recently discovered through the internet that there have many complaints about mazda 626 transmission problems.mazda has done nothing to resolve these problems or even to acknowledge that there is a problem.the only action they have taken is to discontinue the 626 production.after reading about all the transmission problems, i am sure that mazda/ford was aware of these problems and have simply ignored them.meanwhile, mazda owners are left with the financial responsibility of dealing with expensive repairs and/or loss of the car resale value resulting from the reputation that these cars have transmission problems. What other recourse do we have other than to complain?

While sitting at an intersectionvehicle failed to accelerate. Consumer had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection, andmechanicdetermined that transmission needed to be replaced due to worn out parts.

2000 mazda 626 experienced transmission failure around 70,000 miles. While driving on vacation i noticed some oil on the trunk after arriving at our destination. Before departing i had the car checked at a lube and tune center. Was informed that the transmission fluid was leaking and the likely cause was a loose drain plug. Plug was tightened and fluid was topped off. On the trip home smoke was visible from the rear of the vehicle. Other drivers brought this to my attention. After pulling over and discussing the matter with my mechanic on the phone, i elected to have the car towed to a transmission repair shop in the closest large city. I was told the transmission needed to be rebuilt. Apparently the seal between the two halves of the transmission ruptured. A small leak suddenly grew to a large leak on the trip and ruined the transmission. The technician said that he had been seeing 'more and more' of this problem with these transmissions. The tow was $500 and the rebuild was $2500. Time off work and a rental car for two weeks also were needed.

My 2000 mazda 626 has just experienced a problem that mazda has been aware of for years and issued a tsb #05-005/02 for- blinking overdrive/hold light on dash, transmission fluid squirting out of the dipstick and jerky shifting when driven long distances.mazda should be held financiall responsible for these repairs since they have been have this trouble with the mazda 626 since the 1994 model and still produces them with this fault.

Shifter cable locked up back august of 2003. Was unable to put car in reverse or drive. Had car towed to pearson mazda richmond, va was told that it was a malfunction with the remote keyless entry and that they could not duplicate shifter problem. Now of 6/3/05 shifter cable breaks off. Now car hesitates when in reverse and drive. Took care back to dealer to be told that a new transmission is needed on a 5 1/2 year old car. Mazda will not help with any financial assistance. We are to foot the entire bill of just over $3000.00. This is not acceptable.

Dt: the contact owns a 2000 mazda 626. Transmissiondoesnot work properly. The overdrive light continues to flash , and the vehicle will not go into reverse and will not shift .the vehicle was taking to a repair shop and thetransmission was repaired.however, the problem recurred. The current mileage is 102000 miles. He is no longer driving the vehicle.

2000 mazda 626dx 4cyl. With 93,200 miles and the automatic transmission failed.vehicle is maintained exceptionally well and all filters and fluids changed regularly.transmission slips between shifting gears and erratically shifts from high to low with dramatic loss of power.

My madza 626 with 10500 miles on it had transmission failure which cost 2000 dollars to repair.i have had service done on the vehicle on a regular basis and feel this transmission should not have failed.

I had the transmission replaced once already. The transmission i have now when driving on a hwy at 50mph and above with start to jerk in and out from 2000 to 3000rpm and the o/d switch light will blink. After this happens, it doesn't matter what speed the vehicle is in, it responds the same.

Transmission is failing in my 2000 mazda 626.everything i read about the issue tells me that the ford transmission in the mazda was not made to handle a vehicle that size.the gears are slipping hard enough to make the car jump.i cannot safely drive this car anywhere since there are also changes in velocity due to the slipping.

I bought my 2000 mazda 626, 2.0l engine, automatic, in 2001, brand new.i have put ~100,000 miles on it, mostly highway.then one day, with no warning, the transmission just failed on the highway.

The hold/o/d light was blinking and the car was revving up to 4-5 rpms as i drove on the interstate at about 65 mph. The car then began smoking, so i pulled off the road and parked the car.

Took my 2000 mazda 626 to mike mcgrath's in cedar rapids, ia while under warranty because of problems with the transmission.was a delay in shifting and shifting hard.service drove the car and i was told there was nothing wrong with the car. Problem continued and when i took the car in after it was off of warranty, was told by mcgrath's that the car neededa new transmission.mcgrath's was aware that 2000 mazda 626's had transmission problems the first time i took the car in but neglected to inform me.appears that mazda uses a ford transmission but does not install a coolant as ford does with their vehicle transmissions.although mazda covered cost of parts, i was responsible for the labor costs of $600.mcgrath's should have alerted me to the fact that there were transmission problems the first time i brought the car in and mazda should have issued a recall on this defective vehicle.i have driven mazda's for 19 years but i am finished with them.the quality now is extremely lacking.

Transmission on a 2000 mazda 626, wouldn't engage in reverse or the car would slam into reverse, stop, slam into reverse, stop, slam into reverse repeatedly. The car was stopped because of this difficulty, put into drive and it slammed into drive.my mechanic says the transmission needs to be rebuilt or replaced.it has 85,000 on it, it's only 5 years old!a little young for a new transmission. Now i learn it's a ford transmission.and they wonder why no one buys their cars!

I have a 2000 mazda 626 and the transmission is horrible.well, was because i had to replace it.instead of my car going in reverse when i put it in reverse it went forward.my overdrive light kept coming on and blinking and the code was always the temperature high due to highway driving.if this transmission wasn't meant for highway driving it should have never been utilized.luckily i didn't get into an accident with the care.

Transmission fluid leaking out. This transmission shifts hard from first to second gear each and every time going up or down. Numerous mech's have looked at the problem and cannot fix.

Transmission shifts very hard from 1st to 2nd gear when cold or at slow speeds. Have taken vehicle to dealer numerous times for this problem but have been told that it is normal or no problem found.dt

While driving the transmission failed.the dealer was notified.*nlm

Approximately 1 year ago i f have purchased a used mazda 626 with a total mileage of under 68000 miles. Before i made the purchased of the vehicle i made a background check of the vehicle and its history was fine. 6 months after the purchase i ran over curve and it gave the car a small jolt, moments after the incident my transmission was acting funny. Just before i could make it to my mechanic my transmission failed. Later i find out that the jolt caused a spragg to pop off in the transmission virtually destroying every thing inside which caused me to have the transmission rebuilt. 4 months later my transmission fails again for some odd reason now i have to get my transmission rebuilt again.

Transmission failure.

Mine car is an eight years old nice little car. It runs pretty well despite the fact that the transmission fluid get very dirty every 10,000 to 12,000 miles despite old two-year/30,000-mile interval that used to be considered the norm for transmission service is good for the 626; i have to do a full transmission flush to keep it running. Yes, it's expensive for the tranny.recently, the real problem has appeared. My idle rpm is around 700, when i shift the gear in to reverse, it didn't shift properly. I feel nothing at all. I mean when a car sitting on a flat surface, it doesn't move even a little bit. If i gently step on the gas pedal till the rpm hit around 1000, there is a huge pumping on my transmission and the car inconsistently move backward. If i let the pedal go and hit and then release the brake, it stand till again.i brought it to the shop and have them run the diagnose test. They said there is nothing wrong with it. They have to look inside. It's too problematic. The repair cost is estimated around 2,000. Which is more than the value of my car. And the transmission is not even a new one, it's a rebuilt which is likely to be broken again.i think there is a defects in the tranny system.

Mazda 626 transmission is a failure 2000. I have had this car since 2002 but in 2004 my transmission broke down when the car had like 78000 miles it was rebuilt by aamco at a cost of about $2400. Now 2006 july the transmission is broken again. I think the quality of the transmission is substandard.

Transmission failure. Was on my way home and the car just stop at an intersection and would not shift into gear. The only operable gear was reverse. I was lucky, no accidents. Towed car to a mechanic, the transmission is completely gone. Mazda charges $2500 for a new one, when they are aware of their transmission problems.

While driving the overdrive light flashed on the dashboard, andvehicle started shaking uncontrollably. Consumer noticed smoke coming from the hood.consumer was able to pull over, andhad the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. Mechanic determined thattransmission needed to be replaced due toworn out parts.

Transmission failure at 75,000 miles.

I was driving from california to las vegas and my o/d light started to blink on and off but there were no other signs.all of a sudden my speedometer went to 0 and i was losing power and the engine was smoking.i had to pull over and stop in the middle of nowhere.come to find out the transmission overheated and went out on me.

My 2000 mazda 626 (56 thousand mile) died on the highway, the transmission failed and i almost got killed! my girlfriend called the mazda dealer where i bought my car ( east coast mazda) and pretty much was told, oh well, what do you want us to do about it?? well, i now understand that this transmission problem is very common in mazda 626 from years 1994-2002. I put out over three thousand dollars for a transmission and i think they should pay on cars like mine that only have 56 thousand miles & the trans dies, plus people could get killed, i can't believe there has been "no recall" for this problem to date, are they waiting to get sued?? that money was my vacation money so now i am out of my trip because of a bad transmission which they are well aware of, just look up mazda 626 trans problems on the web and see how many there are!

My mazda 626 lx currently has 49,000 miles and needs a new transmission.i have read numerous complaints via the internet from other drivers experiencing the same problem!!! can this be looked into by the nhtsa for a potential recall???please let me know - your help is greatly appreciated.

I own a mazda 626, 2000 with 65,000 miles. The vehicle has recently run into over $3700 worth of repairs to the transmission, engine mount and axles. The transmission, with a $2700 bill had to be rebuilt with a number of new parts. According to the mechanic, this is a common problem with this type of vehicle, which as a ford transmission and many other ford parts. I am shocked to learn that with so many transmission and other complaints, the vehicle parts have not been recalled. I am in the process of talking to other mazda 636 owners to ensure they report similar problems with their vehicles. Ford needs to take responsibility for these substandard parts.

This is the second time that i have had to put my 2000 mazda 626 into the shop due to transmission failure. I was experiencing hard shifting and jerking while placing the car in gearand accelerating. The first repair cost me 800 dollars the second transmission repair was 1200 and the mechanic told me that the transmission wasn't equivalent forthe weight and size of my car. I'm experiencing problems once again and it's not even a year later i'm a sophomore in college and i can't afford these costly repairs.

Transmission over heated discharging transmission fluid onto hot engine components & causing heavy smoking from engine compartment. Dealership stated that it is a flaw in 626 transmissions not covered by warranty.

2000 mazda 626 automatic transmission failuretransmission has been replaced after 82,000 miles but has failed twice since the repair.in all three cases the automobile transmission has not been able to switch into reverse from being parked.when the problem occurs, switching into reverse is comparable to switching into neutral.

1. Mazda transmission: can not change the filter. Only during the rebuilding of the transmission can the filter be changed. 2. Plugged filter causes the torque converter to destruct at any time. The car can stall any where anytime. 3. Was replaced with rebuilt transmission at a cost of 2500.00.

When consumer started upcar itcould not be putin gear. Took to dealer, and they adjusted the problem.consumer felt that there still was a problem because it happened again. But, consumer was able to put in gear. Mechanic said problem was caused byputting hand on top of gear shift lever. Consumer felt this did not make sense.

While drivingat any speed automatic transmission doesn't shift properly from the first to the second gear.takes longer to release from one gear to another. Dealership was notified.

Transmission already went out in my 2000 mazda 626. After researching the problem online, i found out this is a very common problem in mazda 4cyl engines from this time period. I think it is unacceptable that the transmissions life is this short.

The gears are slipping, making it impossible to accelerate due to transmission failure. The entire transmission has to be rebuilt. This was a common failure with these vehicles.

The vehicle suddenly slowed down, consumer was able to pull over, and attempted to shift gearin reverse, however it would only go into drive, the vehicle was towed the dealer.mr

The transmission is failingon our mazda 626 2000.according to the mechanic the rest of the car is in great condition besides the fact that we need a transmission overhall which will run us 4,000 - 5,000.a brief internet search by the mechanic and subsequently by myself indicated this is a common complaint of mazda.we are extremely lucky this did not cause injury to my husband who was driving at the time of initial occurrence or the mechanic who test-drove it for diagnostics.

O/d off light started flashing.took vehicle to a local dealer and they ran a diagnosis.they found a dst p01718 failure - automatic transmission slippage causing overheat condition.the transmission needs to be replaced as it will fail.it is a 2000 mazda 626 with only 58000 miles on it.

Transmission over heats(overdrive light blinks), causing the car to shift gears improperly and if untreated by adding an extra radiator for the transmission it will go bad!!!!!

2000 mazda 626 with 65,000 miles---transmission failed on interstate and needs to be replaced.looks like there have been numerous issues with this vehicle judging from postings on the web.$3,000 to replace--shouldn't a transmission last longer?

Mazda 626 es 2000. Transmission failure. Replaced transmission from eagle transmission, o/d light flashing after trip to dallas, failed transmission again. 2 months after rebuilding transmission. Now i see tsb on this problem. Mazda knows that this transmission is too small and overheats. What will they do?updated 04/21/08

O/d light blinking after long drive. Harsh shifting. Over revving during attempted shifting.

2000 mazda 626 atx cd4e failure @ 88k miles- then rebuilt - another failure @ 121k miles.

We have a 2000 mazda 626 and the transmission went out last year, we paid over 4000 to have another transmission installed and this one went out this year. I am very upset because we spent a lot of money, we went to our mazda dealer here in champaign and they kept telling us it was a seal, until finally they told us it was the transmission. It is quite disturbing to find so may complaints online regarding the mazda transmission and to realize that the vehicle has a ford engine, we did not know this, we would have never bought a ford anything! i understand that mazda has known about this problem for awhile and did nothing to try to help the consumer.

I have a 2000 mazda 626 lx.i was accelerating onto freeway and suddenly lost all power.i was able to quickly take next exit and was not in a collision.i had vehicle towed to repair shop and was told that a complete rebuild of the automatic transmission was necessary.the mechanic stated that the cause of failure appeared to be a loss of pressure within the transmission and subsequent damage occured.he also stated that there was a known cooling problem with this model transmission. The total cost of repair was $2500.judging from other complaints i reviewed there seems to be a history of failure in these vehicles.the vehicle had 75000 miles at the time of failure.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle stalled on the road while the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light.the vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop who determined that the transmission was not suitable for the vehicle.the manufacturer was contacted and obtained the vehicle's vin to identify any manufacturer defect as the cause for the problem.the vehicle was towed to the dealer for further examination.

Parts inside the transmission broke on my 2000 mazda 626 2.0l.

O/d light blinking after long drive.harsh shifting.over reving during attempted shifting.

2000 mazda 626 lx transmission failure after only 81,200 miles.

2000 mazda 626 requires rebuilt transmission at 80,000 miles.

Overdrive light came on and vehiclejerked. Vehicle will make a bad noiselike a booming noise.

Transmission problem at about 65,000 miles.

Faulty/defective transmissions are being used in mazda vehicles well after the issue was known about by the manufacturer.there are literally hundreds, of not thousands of individuals and companies who have had their transmissions go out... Many with well under 60k miles. And, many have been through several transmissions before 100k miles. All of the problem vehicles share the same symptoms: od light flashing off and on, and transmission slipping in and out of gear, as the transmission burns up, literally from poor design and implementation which doesn't allow for proper air flow and cooling.this problem is widely acknowledged by the manufacturer, car owners, dealers, service centers, and other automotive professionals. Proof of this fact was a notice sent out to dealers that there is a cooling kit "available" for this transmission that should aid in keeping the transmission cool. However, this is not a free addition!mazda is actually charging customers to add a fix to their design flaw!i feel this problem is not only a fraudulence issue, but is also a safety issue.people could (may have already) be severely injured, or killed, by having their transmission go out as they attempt to enter high traffic, high-speed areas, such as a freeway. Personally, i expect to receive the difference between what i could have sold my car for, and what i actualy had to sell it for due to this known defect. I also expect to see mazda make good on this problem with current and previous owners, as well as correcting this issue once and for all, to ensure that this problem doesn't continue.thanks, david williams

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 35 mph the engine suddenly lost power and the vehicle was maneuvered to the side of the road.the vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop where it was determined the transmission failed.it was later towed to a local dealer who confirmed the transmission was the cause of the problem.after some research online the contact discovered other complaints concerning transmission failure with similar vehicles that were used primarily for highway driving. This vehicle was purchased 10 months ago and has been used for highway driving only.after doing some reseach, the consumer discovered the transsmission was too small for the vehicle. Updated 03/03/06.

The mazda 626 lx cd4e transmission will fail, because their poor design, no matter how you do. This transmission is on mazda 626 on year 1994-2002.

The contact owns a 2000 mazda 626. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated to start. The contact was advised by the manufacturer that the vehicle had a history of problems. The contact was advised to purchase a new transmission. The current mileage was 53,296. The failure mileage was 12.

Transmission failure. My transmission failed after being driven for about 75k. For the last 20k it had a noticeable hesitation when i was driving in the morning. The transmission finally had to be replaced.

I'm a victim to a bad transmission. I have a mazda 626 lx year 2000. It is has around 63500 miles and i just found out today that my car need a new transmission. I bought this car brand new from the mazda dealer. My warranty has expired. I was told that i have to buy a new transmission which is going to cost me $2900. As you know that 63500 is not a lot of miles. What should i do?. If you have any information that can help, please email me at [email protected]

Car all of a sudden quit accelerating in the drive gear.i previously posted a complaint regarding a symtom of transmission failure but, it now failed.car was taken to local shop where it was diagnosed with transmission failure a $2500 cost.i have done extensive reasearch on the transmission model and come to find out that it is a ford transmission model# cd4ewhich is notourious for failing.this transmision is not only in mazda models but ford cars as well.the years vary from approx 1994 to 2002, please don't only consider the amount of complaints for this year and model of car, but do put into consideration the various cars this transmission was installed into.this type of transmission has been a failure since it was manufactured, if you were to invistigate all cars with this type of transmission you would come to conclude that a massive recall should be done for the safety of us drivers.i'm fortunate that i made it to work and that the transmission didn't fail while driving on the freeway on my way to work.

Car no longer goes in any gear will go some in reverse. Transmission is dead

Purchased new 2000 mazda 62607--01 transmission o/d came on, transmission fluid spewed out.took it in and mazda could find nothing wrong with it.first indication something was wrong with mazda transmission.03-04 -transmission totally went out on mazda, at a cost of $3033.had it rebuilt.took mechanic 5 weeks to rebuild it.present- have taken vehicle back to mechanic 4 times as still having trouble with the transmission.i at first thought the mechanic did a shotty job.after further research i have discovered hundreds of mazda 626 owners whose transmissions went out on them after the first 2 to 5 years of purchase of the vehicle spending anywhere from $1100 - $5000 to repair the vehicle.*la

I purchased my car in april of 2004 with 45,000 miles on it; around 102,000 miles, my car stated jerking when it changed from 1st to 2nd gear; now, at 106,000, the o/d light, and the engine light both flashes, and i can barely make it up a hill, because of all the jerking and hesitating that it does.

1. I was driving in a residential zone at manhattan beach, ca.i noticed that shifting from 1st to 2nd gear was always very rough, the vehicle jerks.2. Going uphill, the vehicle suddenly stopped after accelerating through 1st gear.this was very dangerous in that this occurred without warning in the middle of traffic.had i been going any faster or been making an unprotected left hand turn, this might have yielded in bodily injury or fatality.3.i had the transmission rebuilt at la cienega transmissions in culver city for $1395.i have saved the old parts for further investigation in this matter.

Passengers side rear axle needed to be repaired because it was cracked. Vehicle would shake when driven at 60 mph or faster. Dealer had been contacted for this problem, and informed consumer that drivers side axle needed to be changed. Dealer has replaced drivers side, but consumer was having same problem. Dealer had informed consumer that passengers side axle needed to be replaced.consumer also stated she was having problems with the transmission stalling, vehicle back firing, trembling/shaking and also steering from left to right, consumer was informed that the problem was the tires that there was not enough tire pressure, however the problem still persisted until she was finally told that the axle needed to be replaced.

When starting vehicle to warm up vehicle will shift into reverse, but will not move.consumer put gear back into park and let itwarm up again. Vehicle again will jump into reverse, and consumer has to put it back into park. Also, when shiftinginto reverse vehicle will go backwards real fast.vehicle does this intermittently.contacted dealer, and dealer stated nothing was wrong with vehicle.

I bought a 2000 mazda 626 lx from a neighbor, and with only 95k on the odometer, the car began shifting rough. It didn't seem to cause much of a problem and i continued to provide general maintenance for the car. However, i almost never traveled outside of a 20 mile radius with the vehicle. Once i did travel about 40 miles away, the transmission broke down and refused to enter into drive, but only the lower gears. As i searched the internet for similar problems, it became readily apparent that a transmission failure was common for the mazda 626 model. I am now faced with replacing the transmission at a cost of $2,000 plus.

Transmission shifts very hard from 1st to 2nd gear when cold or at slow speeds. Have taken vehicle to dealer numerous times for this problem but have been told that it is normal or no problem found. Continued to drive the vehicle thinking that there was nothing wrong and i noticed that it would shift hard into 1st and then from 1st to 2nd. After continuous driving (1 hr) at 65 mph the o/d light started flashing and the engine was smoking. Took it in for repairs again was told they could find nothing. I then searched on the net and came noticed that several people have been complaining about the 626's transmission problems. Someone please help us!!!!

My 2000 mazda 626 has 112,800 miles.six months ago the vehicle has 100,000 mile service and the dealer recommended i install a transmission cooler.i asked why and he didn't offer anything other than it was a good idea.now my o/d light is flashing and the transmission is clunking.the repair shop says that the transmission is burned out.mazda knows about this, the dealers know about this but the consumers do not know about it.this vehicle needs a recall or at least a broadcast warning to consumers.

We just had to replace the trasmission on are 2000 mazda 626 we were told that mazda built a very poor transmission, and to file a complaint.

Shifting bracket continually falls off.the transmission doesn't shift into proper gear ( drive reverse etc)until trying a couple of times.the engine reves itself from 2000 to 4000 without pressing down more on gas pedal.the transmission will not shift from 2nd to first until you reach 50mph or release gas repeatedly while driving.this is very hazardous on any road.sometimes the transmission downshifts while driving on highway over 55mph.this is extremely dangerous.i have had cars almost hit mein the rear. This happens on a daily basis. I have been looking for a transmission replacement and the cost is over $2000.book value is not much more the car has 117585 miles.

Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle was consistently experiencing transmission problems resulting in a complete transmission failure.the vehicle would switched gears by itself.when the vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics, they determined the transmission needed to be replaced immediately. The dealer was contacted to search for recalls by vin who determined that the vin did not match any recalls.

I was recently informed that my vehicle (2000 mazda 626) is in need of a transmission. I have had preventive maintenance done at the suggested times and not until doing research discovered that there are reported problems with the mazda 626 transmissions.upon taking it to the shop, i noticed 3 other 626's in the garage with the same problem. Someone definitely needs to look into recalling these vehicles and the issues that they are having. While i don't have my old transmission, i do have receipts documenting the replacement cost for the part.

Mazda 626 transmission failed...at 72,000 miles. Simply quit. Dealer basically said that mazda doesn't stand behind their transmission failure once car is out of warranty.

Transmission problems on a 2000 mazda 626

2000 mazda 626 4 cyl transmission problem. It did not cause me to wreck but it seems that it could be a safety concern if it fails while on the highway.

Clicking in transmission- not going into reverse, slipping. Rebuilt transmissioncar now needs gear cable replaced because it has come off and car becomes immobile.

Since owning my mazda626 i have a problem with my engine light coming on and off i am assuming its a electrical problem.i was reading a article own the net saying that mazada is infamous for having transmission problems with there cars and that no one has bothered to recall these vehicles.that is unbelievable to me, i have a 2000,626 and i have to many problems for the year of car it is please help.i am requesting that the mazda 626 be recalled to check and maintenance its transmission problems seeing that everyone knows its a problem now why should the consumer be held responsible?shouldn't mazda be held accountable.i have had barings replaced and my car is only 4yrs. Old.the radio/cd player replaced, and now the engine light.please help.

I have a concern with the transmission's on the mazda 626 transmission style cd4e. There are thousands of people (internet searched) who have these vehicles and have been placed in dire straits as i am. I was traveling down the freeway at 65 mph and from out of nowhere, my od stopped functioning and left the car's tranny slipping out of 4th gear searching for a lower gear as it threw the flashing "od light off" indicator light. I had a woman swerve behind me as i had total loss of power and trying to get my car to grasp any gear. Once i pulled to the side of the road and stopped, the od light stopped flashing and my vehicle was left in a "limp home" mode where i could not get over 45mph. I had the tranny rebuilt to the tune of 1500.00 and guess what? i got into the car to do highway travel one week later, and it happened again.i have read that i am by far the only person this has happened to.this is a 2000 model. My brother bought it in 2002. He has maintained the vehicle for the last 7.5 years and i have had it for 6 months now. The miles are 76k, only! someone needs to have mazda fix this issue. This is rediculous and thie is by far a major safety concern. The surging and searching the 4th gear does is very hard, jerky and surging. Anyone right on your butt in traffic is going to slam into one of these vehicles. There is also a tsb for this as well......but mazda has offered no amends to this situaution when i called the customer service line. They said they were unaware of this situation. That is simply not possible.

When automatic gear is placed in reverse, gear hesitates for a few seconds before the car actually begins to move..at 98000 i had to replace catalytic converter at selma mazda in selma, ca..

2000 mazda 626 2.5l auto. Complete transmission failure due to lack of fluid cooling. Design flaw is to blame. Trans fluid is in contact with cooling agent(air, antifreeze) for a distance of four inches.

When putting car in drive vehicleslammed into gear.next day, towed to dealer, and they said transmission was completely gone.

Transmission failed, completely out of nowhere at 110,000 miles which is absolutely ridiculous.the transmission in the 2000 mazda 626 should last a lot longer than that.it cost me $1600.00.

2000 year mazda 626, transmission failure 79,483 miles.

2000 mazda 626 lx 4-cylmazda is experiencing jerking or gear shifting problem. Took car in to two different mazda shops-on five separate occasions-within a 60 day span- and the problem still was not corrected or diagnosed. Spent more than $1100 in repairs. Later researched on my own and found out that ford transmissionmodel cd4e used in my model car was possibly defective. After discussing with mazda, i was told to just drive the car until the transmission completely failed and then have it replaced for $3000. I asked about having a transmission fan installed and was discouraged. Mazda service bulletin 005-02 instructs tech's to install a transmission fan if the customer complaint matches the bulletins description. I still was not given any information about this matter. How can mazda get away with not taking responsibility for this? obviously there is a problem when thousands of messages on the message board all discuss the same issue. This is totally unethical and should be dealt with.

2000 mazda 626 transmission failure, after 61247 miles. Had fluid replaced at 50,000 miles.

2000 mazda 626 with failed transmission.dealer repair shop said that this is a know problem and that they add a "cooler" to cool the transmission fluid in hot climates.i'm in texas.my repair bill so far is $1000 for a new transmission.

Purchased vehicle in january 2000 from jeff sikes mazda in huntaville, al. In october 2001, transmission failed and was replaced by bentley imports (bought out jeff sikes mazda). In february of 2002, od light on dash started flashing. Dealership determined that transmission had overheated. Transmission cooler was installed by dealership in montgomery al. This was supposed to fix overheating problem. In may 2002, transmission failed again and was replaced by jim ellis mazda in marietta, ga. This vehicle has had 3 transmission in 2.5 years and 38,000 miles.

Started my car and put it into gear.it did not move.i have the car at the dealership.the shifter cable needs to be replaced which will cost $500 for parts and labor.please let me know if i have any recourse in obtaining reimbursement for this cost.

The contact owns a 2000 mazda 626.the dealer informed the contact that the sway bar will fail, the rotors were bent, and the transmission needed to be replaced.she stated that the vehicle will not shift into the drive gear.approximately three weeks ago, the vehicle was towed to a garage.the vin and engine size were unknown.the current and failure mileages were 46,000.the consumer provided repair invoices, insurance estimate, and proof of ownership. My 2000 mazda 626 4-cyl transmission fail to shiftany gear. And left me 2 hours on the highway.

Was backing up and was not able to shift into drive. Eventuallylever was able to shift into drive after continuous pressing accelerator pedal. Took to dealership, and informed by mechanic its was possible clutch package, causing the problem.

Was driving nearly 70mph on the interstate when the car began attempting to shift into the next gear.it wouldn't shift and the vehicle began sputtering uncontrollably, and it nearly made me hit an 18-wheeler.the front end seemed like it jumped several times, and i was finally able to get it in control and pull over. Once on the side of the interstate, i placed it on park, and then back to drive, and continued my journey, only to have that happen again before i hit 60mph.that time, the car kept attempting to change gears even after letting go of the gas pedal, and again, "jumped" several times uncontrollably.i seriously thought i would get into an accident on the interstate, but i pulled over again and left it on park for several minutes.after that, i started back on drive to at least reach the next exit off the interstate, when i only reached about 35-40mph when it did it again.it is in the shop now and i havne't stoppedhearing about how difficult it is to rebuild that specific transmission, and how frequently they have those mazda 626 vehicles with transmission problems (and frightening stories), in their shop.i am just thankful that i wasn't killed driving that car on a very busy interstate.this issue needs to be addressed before someone is seriously injured, if they haven't already.

The gear gets stuck on reverse.

One of the rear shoulder harnesses is no longer attached under the seat.i had been using it to secure my 5yr olds booster seat.when i turned a corner onto a busy street his carseat slid across the seat and he hit his face on the rear of the front seat.i contacted the dealer as soon as i got home and was told that this wasn't considered a safety concern because it wasn't the driver's seatbelt!spoke with service person named ken.

The brakes squeak badly.nlm

Consumer states vehicle needs brakes.

Brake squeak when applied.

Excessive wear of front brake rotors and pads. Vehicle would pulsate and vibrate when brakes are applied. Dealer notified.

Dt*:the contact stated the rear passenger door is locked and cannot be unlocked.the dealership determined the motor needed to be replaced.also, the brake pads must be replaced every 6-8 months, because the brakes do not properly stop the vehicle, there is a loud noise, and the brakes can be felt grinding when applied.there have been no other attempted repairs to the brakes.

The brake pads must be replaced every 6-8 months because of wear, the brakes can be felt grinding when applied.acrid, burning rubber smell in the passenger compartment when waiting at traffic signals and stop signs.dealer refused to examine the car without a recall letter, however research revealed this car's vin # is in the recall group.

Problems with stabilizer bushings and power steering.*mrat approximately 27000 miles the stabilizer bushings were replaced. Again at 43000 they needed to be replaced again bythen the vehicle was out of warranty.the power steering was very squeaky when making turns.

Rear end collision caused the frame to snap, puncture through the back seat, and pinned my 6yr old son's head to the back of the front passenger seat.it crushed his head, causing severe traumatic brain injury, and he's still in coma.this car is a total loss.

While driving at 65 mphvehicle bogged down on the consumer.then, consumer lost control of the vehicle, and was struck on the driver's side by a 18 wheeler. Consumer sustained major injuries to the lumbar region of the torso.while driving in the right lane the consumer heard a loud thump.after the noise was heard the rear end and steering wheel locked up.as a result the vehicle traveled to the left across the lanes and in the front of an 18 wheeler.

Vehicle got rearended. When consumer's vehicle was towed in it was found out that front and back ends of vehicle were made of plastic. Consumer wanted to know why front and back ends of vehiclewere made of plastic instead of reenforced metal. Consumer called mazda, and mazda stated it was reenforced plastic.

Constant and severe vehicle vibration since ownership.

Whenever vehicle has been started, it would shake and tremble. Had takenvehicle to dealer, but problem had not been or could not be resolved. Mechanic did adjust transmission, but another mechanic indicated that transmission was stuck in 2nd gear and proceeded to repair it.

The sidewall failed.there was a large tear, which developed suddenly at a low speed.there didn't appear to have been any object that struck the tire or came in contact with it.there was no puncture on the surface that contacts the road, just a long "crack" up the side.the ambient temperature was in the 40's and there had been light rain.i had only driven roughly 4 miles at low speeds, but was about a mile away from interstate 77 where i would have been going faster in traffic.i feel fortunate that there were no consequences of the tire's failure because of the location in which it failed.the sidewall crack extended down to one of the indentations in the tread, which appeared to still be intact.the tire showed no sign of significant wear. Since the rental car had just over 5000 miles on it, i assume the tire had no more wear than that. (dot number: unknowntiresize: p215/60r16)

When starting vehicle engine check warning light comes on ans stays on. Has been to dealer 8 times for engine check warning light.

Driving in the highway but abruptly it slowed down and can't speed up while i was in the traffic, it was almost bumped to stop, terrifying trucks were chasing behind me.this is a transmission failure. Terrible, and a big safety issue too.

Speed control would not disengage when applying brakes, and engine increased power, consumer turned onto median to prevent crashing, consumer turned ignition off and vehicle spun out causing vehicle to hit a ditch and damage the underside and 2 wheels.dealer replaced loose brake light and cruise control switch.

Particles are coming through the air vents.it is difficult to drive because it blowsthe particules into the consumers eyes. Dealer states it is not covered under warranty.

While driving at 45 mph consumer heard a loud noise coming from the sun roof. Pulled the vehicle out of the road, and noticed the sun roof frame broke and the glass shattered.
