Airbags deployed while driving on a surface street without braking.driving 30 miles and hour and the bags exploded with no impact of any kind.i was burned and brused.mazda will not take responsibility for this and insists that i have my insurance pay for repair.the bags were on fire.

Air bag sensor light on constantly, meaning it will not work.

Received safety recall in mail to have dealer re-program airbag system due to risk of pre-mature deployment.upon presenting vehicle to dealer for recall safety fix, was advised that airbag system was no longer operative and must pay $365 to install new unit. Currently without airbag supplemental restraint system due to complying with mazda factory saftey recall action.

My wife struck a curb with the right-front tire at about 25-30 mph.the drivers side airbag deployed, though not the passenger side.when i looked on the dot website i found that 97 626 drivers-side airbags had been recalled for deploying too easily.when i spoke with the dealer they said that my vin was not covered under that recall.my insurance company paid for the repair, less our $300 deductible, and put in a complaint on the airbag.because they were paying around $1800, i thought the insurance company would investigate the airbag deployment.my question is, if there was nothing wrong with my car, why did the airbag deploy when there was no body damage, and why didn't the passenger side airbag deploy when the passenger side wheel was struck?either the driver's side deploys too easily, or the passenger side doesn't deploy when it should.

My wife was driving our 1997 mazda 626 when she hit a pothole at 19th and spring garden sts in phila., pa.both airbags went off, breaking the windshield.her neck was a little red after the incident, but no medical treatment was sought.we found a small dent in the rim, but the tire did not go flat.she drove the car to a place where she could pull off the road.our insurance company totaled the car.i found that 97 mazda 626's were recalled.i had a dealer check our vin number and was told that it had been taken in for the recall.our insurance company aaa midatlantic is calling this a chargeable accident and raising our rates 40%.i feel that the airbags should not have deployed when hitting a pothole at no more than 25 mph that did no real damage to the car.luckily, she was not hurt, but was certainly scared to death when it went off.

Vehicle experienced false deployment of both passenger and driver airbag while driving (no accident or warning). Mjs

When gettinginto the carair bags deployed without cause, causing injuries and damage.

I was driving home from workat 6 pm.right front wheel went into a large pothole that i didn't see, causing airbags to deploy, which caused windshield to crack, and the passenger front door to be bent out of alignment by the force of the airbags pushing into the car.the pothole was large enough to bendthe aluminum wheel and put a bubble in the sidewall of the tire, and knocked the suspension out of alignment.dashboard also needs to be replaced. Face received several lacerations about the mouth and nose, and it's too early to say if i've suffered any permanent hearing loss.my biggest problem is that mazda parts division seems to have a national backorder on this passenger side airbag, meaning i will be car-less for an unspecified amount of time.it has been two weeks so far.this should have been a wheel and tire claim only, and i'm lucky i didn't swerve into oncoming traffic as a result of this.

Black ice car exited the road, hit a tree, the air bags did not inflate.

We had just bought my 1997 mazda 626 from a family member and had only had it about 3 weeks.my mother in law had used my car and was coming down the drive and hit a pot hole when the air bags deployed hitting her in the face and busting the windshield.she had to be taken to the hospital for injuries sustained due to the airbags deploying.i then went online where i saw that mazda had a recall on my car model.i called mazda and they said there was nothing they could do, that i would have to contact my insurance company.due to this being an older vehicle i have only liabilty insurance.the car continues to set in the same state as the day the airbags deployed, unable to be driven.

While driving passenger's air bag intermittentlydeployed.

On sunday afternoon, october 8, 2006, i was driving locally to visit a friend in a new home.i had just turned off a busy thoroughfare onto a side road when a huge explosion went off in my face.i was traumatized and blinded at first-all i knew was that i couldn't see, and had been hit in the face with a tremendous force--i immediately thought i had been in a collision, but could not figure out where another car could have come from--i was able to stop the car, undo my seat belt and get out of the smokey interior--a woman driving behind me pulled up and helped me to the curb, saying "get away from the car!" since it looked as if it was going to explode!she called the rescue squad, and they inspected my injuries, which were mainly facial bruising and scrapes--asked me if i wanted to be taken to the hospital, and i refused, signing a paper that said that i refused--my friend came down the street after i called her, and brought me a bag of ice to put on my face.i was greatly shaken, and stayed at her home for the afternoon, and then drove slowly the short distance home with the bag taped up -- i was told to not let anyone sit in the passengers seat since that air bag might deploy also at any time!my insurance company said it would not cover the expenses of repairing the airbag.

After hitting a curb at 5 mph, the driver's and passenger's side air bags deployed without reason, cause unknown.

While traveling at 40-45 mph lost control of vehiclewhile traveling over gravel, as a resultraninto gaurdrail and two street signs. Upon impact, air bags did not deploy at any time. Manufacturer was contacted. Please provide further information.

I have failed 2 times trying to type this letter of complaint. Well,i have a 1997 mazda 626 lx 4 cylinder,2 liter engine sedan.,the engine light stays on all thew time now. First time i took it back to granger in garden city,ga and they sent it to fairway fordmazda in abercorn st in savannah,ga. They kept it about 6 weeks and the engine light stayed off about 2 years. Then it started coming back on in february 2005,so i took it to a certified mechanic here in pooler,ga.he cleared the sensors, lasted about 1/2 day,tool\k it back,he said it was number 2 sensor, replaced it,lasted about a day and now it stays on all the time.number 2 sensor was what it was the first time. I;m also expercing some jerky motion in this car and it could be the transmission. So i'm hoping that you will do something about these faulty problems with these cars, like recall them and repair them at no cost to the owners. [email protected].

Dt: the air bag light on the dashboard keeps blinking. The consumer says that this problem is not electrical.dealership suggested that it was a sensor that needed replacing.consumer was going to have to pay for the repairs on the car out of pocket. The air bag light has been flashing a month.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision. Impact was onleft and right front of vehicle. Upon impact, airbags did not deploy, resulting in minor injuries. The vehicl's sensor system failed.the transmission was rebuilt.the vehicle had been in accident by the previous owner and dealer refused to take it back.

Dt*: the contact stated that while driving 1o mph and crossing over a metal sewer cover (three to for 4 inches higher above the level of the road), the front driver air bag deployed. The vehicle was considered a complete loss since the price to repair the airbag outweighed the value of the vehicle.there is a nhtsa recall, # 98v249000, regarding air bags: frontal: sensor/control module. The vin was not included in the recall.

Right after the vehicle was starteddriver'sside air bag and passenger's side air bag deployed for no reason. Also, windshield was broken whenair bags deployed.vehicle was being repaired. Please provide any further information.

1997 mazda 626 lx - transmission, catalytic converter, oxygen sensor, and computer have all been repaired in a span of 11 months.the car does not have 80,000 miles on it!

The contact owns a 1997 mazda 626. The contact received a recall notification for the electrical system; however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The nhtsa campaign number was unknown. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

Car cannot pass smog test - #10 test box does not exist. After spending $1300, it's been found repeated that 1997 car contains 1998 parts. #10 timing/ground doesn't exist on 1998 but no procedure to smog without it. All other systems passed. Smog referee believes car was manufactured this way but possible dealership altered but they, of course, deny this and state they were able to smog car when they sold to us (since it is impossible to smog the car, it obviously was passed illegally by them). Now we are out $1300 repairs, $12,000 for cost of car, $75 for registration that the state won't give us a sticker for, and no use of a car that sits on the street. Only way to smog is to spend $2500 to replace all the parts to make it all 1997. Car isn't even worth that on top of what was already spent. Someone needs to come forward to take care of this mess. It's bad enough the car constantly stalls. (and yes, the motor light is always flashing. It doesn't mean anything, just a bezerk sensor-after paying $120 4-times to have it turned off, we just put masking tape over the annoying spot).

After running the car for a short period (drove a few miles). Upon turning off the ignition, a fire started from behind the steering column inside of the cab. My mother (87 years old) was driving this car and barely escaped before the entire car was engulfed in flames. The car is a total loss. This car had 19000 original miles and i was the only owner. The car never had been worked on for any electrical problem and was never in any accident. *la

Consumer states vehicle has stalled numerous times, 2 times due to spillage from a cup that's in the cup holder, dealer installed a cover to protect pcm, vehicle has also stalled 3 other times with no explanation, possibly an electical problem, however check engine light was also illuminated, stalling could also be related to engine problem.

The vehicle is stalling during acceleration and after. Sometimes it's stops and clear itself up and then throws itself into overdrive (o/d off lights starts flashing) all while driving it in the street(city and interstate). When you let the car sit and not run it will not flash but after driving amd not getting any speed it does it again.

The vehicle experienced a problem with the headlight switch which was replaced a year ago. Now the headlights and tail lights switch are inoperable. Problem was due to broken wire connector inside of the switch.*mr

The transmission went out in sept. Of 2000. The car has been servised by university mazda front brakes wearing engine light , battery and shift console problems. The car is a lemon.( dot number: )

Battery failed 5 times.

In addition to smelling gas - the radio and antenna doesn't work.now the sunroof won't close all the way.the check engine light comes on more often than not since i had the car.the key sometimes won't fit into door lock and even though the car looks brand new and has been well taken care off - it just seems to fall apart.the glove compartment lock fell apart but the biggest thing is the sunroof won't close all the way.this is my 3rd mazda and i will never buy another one.

Battery cable clamps are too loose for the battery pole

Fuel injection malfunctioned, causingcar to stall. When starting up, wouldn't turn over , would open gas tank then car would start sometimes. Put in shop took 30days toget part then within the same year. The alternator failed now within a year. The same problem is arising. It been in the shop 5 times since i purchased the vehicle a little over 2 years ago.

The location of the horn buttons, makes it difficult for the driver to press the horn. Mazda was notified about the design and stated that design was changed in the 98 models.

Vehicle horn stuck, went to press down to use horn and it would not stop when released.

Difficulty starting vehicle due to faulty spark plug wires.

Vehicle started on own, with no key in ignition, shut down then started again.vehicle then began smoking under hood and from wheel hubs.

Dealer refused to look at it as a warranty repair and advised me to take it back to other mazda deale where new transmission was installed and car was diagnosed for other ignition related problems.

This car has been in the shop five times for the same symptoms, the car runs very rough, stalls, no acceleration etc.in november, 1998 (25,657 miles), jim ellis mazda in atlanta diagnosed the problem as being a defective powertrain control module.this part was replaced under warranty.at 63,000 miles, the power train control module goes bad again.however, this time, the dealer service representative as well as the "mazda" representative stated that the reason the part was bad was due to me spilling a drink on it and thus breaking it.it should be noted that the part has an 80,000 mile warranty, which becomes and void if the part is damaged through owner negligence.to my astonishment, the service representative told me that the power train control module is located directly under the drink holder near the gear shift.the unprotected location of this critical part under a drink holder is exceeding hazardous to human life because when the power train control module breaks down, the car does not run.locating this critical electonic part under a drink holder is extremely dangerous and in my opinion requires an investigation by the nhtsa.imagine if some of my grandchilden spilled a drink on the interstate?it should be noted that the mazda representives acknowledged to me that this is a design flaw, but, in my case, since i spilled a drink on the control module, it invalidated the warranty.however, they were gracious enough to release my car to me by me paying 1/2 of the repair costs as a gesture of goodwill.since a representative with mazda acknolwedged that this is a design flaw, i would have to assume that other people have complained about it and that mazda is aware of the problem.please take this matter seriously and investigate this complaint.the car barely runs with a defective power train control module.with this part being so easily susceptible to "drink" damage, this is a disaster waiting to happen.

O/d off light began blinking after 30 min of driving, dealership replacedcpu, next week same problem--when blinking begins the car jerks from 1st to 2nd gear and resets after car turned off--after several times it begins driving rougher and rougher in 1st and 2nd gear. ( dot number:)

Vehicle was in repair shop. Computer chip and sensor had to be replaced. Also, overdrive light kept blinking, and transmission malfunctioned and has to be rebuilt. *ml

The electrical module failed (computer) causing the vehicle to shut down, was told by the dealer that this would not be cover under warrenty because something had spilledinto it. Consumer believes this happened by design since the module is located immediatly forward and below the cup holder making it possible for things to spill into this location.nlm

The contact owns a 1997 mazda 626. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer for a recall resolution regarding replacing the ignition switch. After the ignition switch was replaced, the engine intermittently failed to start when the contact turned the key in the ignition. The manufacturer was not notified. The recall details were not provided. The failure mileage was 120,105.

Vehicle takes too long to start, and one can hear the starter kicking or striking for about 20 seconds. But when turned on again, engine starts right away.

Starter failed resulting in the vehicle starting to crank without a key in the ignition followed by smoke bellowing from the engine and around the wheel wells.

Was driving at55mph when the interior system went out, eg., instrument panel/dome lights. Another driver indicated no tail lights on vehicle. The headlights were working. Checked the manual, all are connected to one fuse, but the fuse did not blow. Took to dealer & mechanic noticed fuse which was not blown. Indicated it was electrical system. Wiring.

Car rpm's are high on start, car idles rough, over drive light blinks, car is very dangerous and when od light blinks car cannot change gears correctly and makes it dangerous on turns.had close calls almost being hit, as transmission and engine does not work properly.i have had to change all spark plugs and wires, had a rebuilt engine out in as old one was destroyed due to a spring in the timing belt breaking.new 02 sensors, and maf.current issues are with the od light blinking and causing the car to hesitate and stall.turning car off and on seems to fix it for a while, then problem happens again after a few hours.seems to be a computer problem or something, also there is a whining noise when rpm's are over 4000.this car is a lemon and i have read how mazda refuses to admit the transmission problems they have.

Car traveling at 70mph. Car unexplainably accelerates and then moderate "pop" heard under hood. Debris noticed falling from car. Car is brought to stop on shoulder. Smoke eminating from under hood. Latch of hood is released to investigate when flames erupt. Engine is on fire. Electric cooling fan was melted and destroyed. Collisionwas cause by loss of control due to engine stalling.consumer received a recall notice from the mfr. Concerning mazda/timing belt # 98v-206.001. Consumer believed that was the cause of vehiclestalling and then being out of control.

When the gear shift is in drive, and the brake is pressed, the car shakes violently and so much that it actually creates a humming noise.the vibration is so intense that it cause ears to clog up.took car to browns mazad dealership, because still under warranty.was told it was the motor mounts.they had my car for a total of two weeks, waiting on a "part" which happend to be a bolt and when i pick up the car, it was in worse condition than when i brough it in.i was told that the some vibration is normal, but i am literally shaking when the car idles in the drive gear.nasty attitude.i am still covered under warranty and i asked to have the mounts replaced, but was told it was within 'specs' therefore, live with it. This could become a potential safety hazard, because i have to put the car in neutral gear to stop the shaking.

Repeated transmission and motor mount problems /axles too.

Intermittently vehicle jerks/ sputters and jumps out of gear or gets stuck between gears.gear is shifted to neutral first before going into drive.service technician indicated that vehicle didn't fall within the guidelins ofrecall 98-v-206-001/ manufacturer'srecall 76810.vehicle has a preexisting timing belt problem. Engine is stalling. It looks like the similar failure recall description of mazda 97, http://www.automotive.com/1997/49/mazda/626/recalls/12919.html) reported. And dealer(tele. No.972 298 0333) refused to fix.

The vehicle stalled after a scheduled oil change.after returning to the service center where the oil change was performed,i was told that i need to have my valve cover gaskets changed.i wanted a second opinion and scheduled a check with the dealership service center.i had no problems with stalling after the first initial incident.after the dealership mechanics looked at the vehicle the car would not move unless the engine was reved.i was informed at this point that my transmission was slipping and that i needed my valve cover gaskets and spark plugs changed.the total cost would amount to over $3200.after getting a second opinion on the state of the transmission i had the transmission replaced. I was informed by the dealership mechanic that the 1997 mazda has transmission problems.i had the transmission replaced by the dealership service department. The new transmission is extremely loud, the car does not drive the smoothly; i can feel the gears change, and the odometer is running rampant.i went back to the dealership and was told that mazda transimission are generally loud and that the car will rev and cause one to feel a shift in gear if the computer cannot distinguish a speed setting.i feel that after reseach and speaking with the dealerships mechanics that mazda was aware that the madza 626 v6 1997 year was defective and should not continue to make revenue for a costly "repair" that should have been fixed by the manufacture.when my vehicle stalled it was in heavy traffic (45mph zone) and it is a blessing that i did not cause a wreck or hit anyone.thank you t.simpson

1997 mazda 626 lx - transmission, catalytic converter, oxygen sensor, and computer have all been repaired in a span of 11 months.the car does not have 80,000 miles on it!

Vehicle taken to service twice under warranty.sensor cleaned instead of replaced.per mazda, this is not a proper "repair".now mass air flow & o2 sensor damaged.vehicle stalls when slowing or stopped.

About a year ago my engine check light came on. I took it to the mazda dealer and they said the catalytic converter was bad. It was replace because it was still under warranty. Two months ago my check engine light came on again. I was again told that my catalytic conver was bad and it was again replaced. Today i was driving on the highway at about 75 miles per hour when my o/d light began to flash on and off. Five minutes later my car started to lose power. After pulling over to the side of the road my car would not change gears. It would not go forward or in reverse. I had it towed to the mazda dealer and i was told that the transmission was bad and that it would take $2500.00 to be replaced.

Recall 98v206001 done in june 1999, problems with vehicle ever since, timing chain replaced a secondtime in october 2000. Currently vehicle is shaking, catalytic converter was replaced, dealer thought that was the problem, engine light still on, timing chain needed to be replaced a third time.

Intermittant noise in blower fan caused by debris in motor.

Consumers vehicle began shaking, making noises and the dash light came on. Consumer had tensioner kit, gasket converter failures.the vehicle experienced several engine related problems.the dealer had to replace the thermostat, water pump, catalytic converter and sensors.the a/c also failed.*nlm

The headlights do not work when i turn the switch but, if i shift the handle to activate the turn signals, then the headlights turn on. More details regarding this condition are that the dashboard lights do not work as well. In addition, i noticed that the engine accelerates a bit when the headlights go on this way. Coincidently, while searching online for recalls for my vehicle i ran into an article posted at this website http://www.mazdavictoria.com/recalls/recalls_626.htm where, there is a recall for a 1994 mazda 626 for the same condition i am experiencing with my car. Please let me know if there is something i can do to have mazda issue another recall and repair my car. This appears to be a clear repeat of the defect. Thanks a lot.orlando ayala - garfield, nj.

Turn singnal failed.yh

Fuel injection malfunctioned, causingcar to stall. When starting up, wouldn't turn over , would open gas tank then car would start sometimes. Put in shop took 30days toget part then within the same year. The alternator failed now within a year. The same problem is arising. It been in the shop 5 times since i purchased the vehicle a little over 2 years ago.

From start up vehical runs very rough idle. Check engine light comes on often. Been to dealer three times about the same problems. They always say it is normal for this vehicle ?

We recently bought or mazda 626 from a dealer we were told that we were getting a quality car. We were fooled. With in the first week we had to buy part after part.change the trans fluid, change the distributor , spark plug wires, spark plugs, router motor, ignition coil, clean fuel injectors , replace fuel filter, still need to get a trans cooler as soon as i can. It took us a few years to save for a car. We trusted a dealer and got screwed! we have no money left and a car we can only use on a limited basis. We thought after loosing our income then our former car to repossession with only $50.00 left on it, then our home gets foreclosed on, and the loss of a father, and sister in a two year time frame was enough. Nope we buy a car with so many defects it crazy, i can believe these cars a even aloud to be sold to anyone. Face it they are death traps and anyone who owns one should get them replaced at manufacture cost.

The car door of my mazda 626 1997, has a safety defect.the front passenger door does not stay closed after it has rained and then the next morning when it remains below freezing temperature.the door locked and was closed, but flew open when i was driving to work.i stopped my vehicle opened and closed the door and relocked it, it remained closed until i went around a corner and the door opened on its own.this is a serious safety concern.*al

Left home to go to work made it about 3 miles from my home and my transmission quit working as i was in the middle of a hwy. I was turning onto from a side street. I was about hit as my mazda would not go and quit working on a blind corner.

While driving the vehicle jerked and slipped gears.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the vehicle needed a new transmission.the consumer searched the web and found that some of these cars do have this type of problem. *nlm

Transmission failure...

Transmission failure twice.

O/d off light began blinking after 30 min of driving, dealership replacedcpu, next week same problem--when blinking begins the car jerks from 1st to 2nd gear and resets after car turned off--after several times it begins driving rougher and rougher in 1st and 2nd gear. ( dot number:)

I have had numerous problems out of my transmission on my 1997 mazda 626 v4 automatic. I have taken my car to a transmission mechanic shop 3 times now and one of the times it had to be towed, and they cannot find what the problem is. The overdrive light would come on and constantly flash and the car would start shifting hard and sometimes would not want to shift into passing gear at all. But once it sets for a few hours and cools down, the overdrive light doesn't come on anymore and the mechanic shop tells me that the car has reset it's self and they cannot detect the defect code by their computer diagnostics. It seems like the overdrive light only comes on when you have had the car on the road for a while, and it gets heated up. I have read several other transmission complaints from other mazda 626 owners off the internet and in my local residence area. I'am requesting that there needs to be something done about these transmission problems by mazda. Mazda needs to have a recall on the mazda 626 v4 cars, by requesting people to go to their local mazda dealership and have their car checked for these transmission problems. And if a problem is detected on the transmission by the mazda service department, then mazda should be financially responsible for the charges. I would like for mazda to contact me about my complaint.thank you.

While drivingconsumer had stopped at a red light, and trying to make a turn vehicle was hesitating to go, thencontinued to drive. Overdrive light came on, and they tookvehicle over todealership.

We have owned a 4 cylinder 1997 mazda that has had the transmission replaced twice.

I can get statements from two different transmission shops saying that mazda 626 transmissions are worked on more than any other automobile.

Transmission rebuilt 1 year ago, and has been into the shop to be fixed 6 times since that.the overdrive light flashes on and off, which means there is still more trouble with the transmission.

Automatic transmission has to be rebuilt due to it not shifting gears.

On tuesday april 27, 2004 the transmission on my 1997 mazda 626 lx went out while i was traveling from nashville, tn to gatlinburg, tn.the vehicle only has 73,500 miles and other than the now nonfunctional automatic transmission, the car is in excellent shape.i have contacted the dealership, nelson mazda antioch, tn as well as the mazda corporation. Basically, all i have gotten is sorry, no warranty, no help.it is now going to cost about $2700. To get a replacement.i have seen numerous complaints on this site as well as others in regards to this problem. I feel that this transmission needs to be recalled!!!

While driving 40 mph vehicle stalled. Consumer pulled over, and had the vehicle towed.dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem. The cause was not determined. Automatic transmission failed.the tires would spin but the vehiclewould not move.the consumer called every salvage and junk yard but no one had the transmission.

Repeated failure of cd4e automatic transmission and torque converter.dates - 11/02/2004 and 08/29/2006.both times transmission was reconditioned by local repair shops(middletown transmission amd mecca transmission, inc).

Car is driven under normal conditions highway/ city. After the transmission warms up the od off lamp blinks and the transmission shifts erratically, when starting from a light the transmission will shift out of first gear at about 4000 rpm and seems to go directly into 3rd. We have been told that the transmission must be replaced, now the car is just sitting until we can get it fixed, they just too much money at this time.

Transmission failure on 97 mazda 626 automatic transmission after approx 15000 miles.

Immediately after used car purchase in june 2003 the 1997 mazda 626 required transmission rebuild.six months later at my expense over $3000 required to rebuild transmission.since then has been in shop over six time with recurring overdrive light blinking, overheating and poor shifting.two coolers have been installed.the engine thermostat replacement, battery replacement, oil change and tuneup have not prevented a recurrence.after 100 to 150 miles of hiway driving the o/d light blinks and transmission overheats.

Defective transmission in my 1997 mazda 626 lx sedan.i am only owner of my vehicle and purchased brand-new in august 1997.i took meticulous care of this car and have all receipts to prove so.a few weeks ago, the o/d light began to flash on and off and the engine light came on.now the car does not accelerate properly and cannot travel above 60 miles per hour.i took the car to my mechanic, who recommended replacing the transmission for $2,000.i got a second opinion from the mazda dealer, who suggested the same for $3,500-4,000.after researching this problem, i found that there are hundreds (or more) people who have experienced the same costly defect.i feel that mazda should have issued a recall on this car.please look into this matter, it is very upsetting.

I bought a used 1997 626dx in 2000. And have had problems from the trans any sense.one month after i brought the car i needed a new trans, the dealership replace it.after the dealership replaced the trans, i continued to have what seem to be problems, the trans would hesitate or shift hard.the mechanics could not find a problem.after about 2 or 3 years of these i gave up.then in dec. 2005 i broke down do to a rusted line leading to the trans that cost me $325.00.now i'm broke down again and it will cost $2400.00 to $2500.00 for an overhaul trans.that i do not have.people tell you to keep up on the maintenance of your vehicle as i have and now i need a trans without warning. I believe is crazy.for a car to need 3 trans in less then 9 yrs.

Overdrive light continually flashes after car's engine becomes hot which is approximatley 20-30 minutes. Caris extremely jerky when shifting into lower gears while this light is on. Mechanics say to fix this problem entire transmission must be replaced.

I have a 1997 mazda 626. The transmission has been rebuilt since i bought the car (2002). I have since had to have the motor replaced and the transmission is acting up again. The o/d light is flashing off and on again as well as the check engine light. It also shifts roughly.

My 1997 626 mazda started acting like it was having trouble shifting gears (it's an automatic) and soon afterwards, the transmission gave out.i am 51 years old and treat my cars with respect, getting regular checkups from my mechanic and driving with caution.i do not abuse my car at all.this failure came as a surprise to me.i had to have the car towed to my mechanic.he told me that the transmission needs to be replaced.currently, we are searching for a used transmission.

Transmission hesitating when shifting, overdrive will suddenly kick out at any speed, overdrive light will flash.

Transmission malfunction.vehicle jumps when put into drive, high idle at times, jerks when stopped, pulls to the right, and vibration felt in steering wheel.

At 62,000 miles overdrive light began flashing, transmission began shifting like a worn out 3 speed, diagnosed by several shops. I was told transmission hasa design flaw, sell car before major problems occur. Repaired transmission, valve body and solenoid pack, torque converter replaced. 1,500 dollars total. At 100,000 miles same problem except i have no forward or reward motion. Car is sitting under my carport, cost to repair 2,500 dollars requires a transmission.

The light comes on after about 60 miles of driving.turning the igintion off and back on will turn off the od light but only temp.after the second time the od light comes on, the engine light comes on.i have taken this to a mechanic and he cleared the codes and changed the transmission fluid.this cycle of events has happened 15 times in 6 months.i was told by the mechanic that this is a common problem with mazda 626's from about 1994 - 1997.i have contacted my closest dealership and they told me that to remedy this situation, i will need a new transmission which will cost about $2000.i see on the internet hundreds of people who are reporting the same problem in their mazda 626's as i am having.if mazda knows that there is a problem with their automobile, why don't they fix it for us. I spent very good money on my vehicle and i take very good care of it.the transmission shouldn't be going out @ 60000 miles.dt

I own a 1997 mazda 626 es v6. The first transmission failed at about 68000 miles, and now, at almost 200k miles, another is having problems. This is apparently a common problem, as i have found a number of websites with literally hundreds of complaints regarding the cars equipped with the cd4e automatic transmission. The first transmission i was told due to excessive heat. According to each of these websites discussed above, this is one of the common problems with this transmission. The problem we are having now is another apparently common issue. The o/d light will blink on and off continuously, and the car will shift from 3rd to 4th repeatedly while driving. My wife drives this car with three of our children daily, therefore, the problems deeply concern me, since some of the complaints on these sites involve the transmission locking up at freeway speeds. After speaking with the nhtsa, the rep informed me 335 complaints have been filed regarding this vehicle, with many of them for the same reason. All people who have complained on the above mentioned sites have been told by mazda these problems are not mazda's, but the consumers. According to most of my research, all 626 models from 1994 to 2000 are equipped with the faulty transmission, and being this is a ford transmission, the ford probes of corresponding years are affected as well. The first transmission was replaced, the old transmission is not available. The consequences of this failure were as follows: i missed four days of work due to this being our only vehicle at the time. My wife was the one driving, and was stranded on the side of state highway 101 with my son and infant daughter after the transmission stopped working altogether while driving at roughly 65 mph.

Another mazda w/ transmission problems.having to have rebuilt for $2k. Owner's manual references nothing about being required to replace the transmission at 60,000 miles use.i was very lucky that myself and pregnant wife weren't on the interstate when it went out.

I started having transmission problems at 45000 miles transmission was supposedly replaced at 48ooo miles.now about two years later i'm having the same problems again, but my warranty has expired.( o/d + engine lights come on, trans stalls while accerlerating, trans slipping, banging sound when put in reverse)

I would like to e-mail your company an express my displeasure in my 1997 mazda 626. My car has had transmission problems since 48,000 miles and my warranty would not cover this saying that they could not fix a problem they don't see. {ie: the transmission fluid boiled over and out a breather tube.} well that being said i now have 62,000 miles and the transmission is slipping more than ever. Now it seems to me with all the customer complaints on this transmission you should recall and or replace the transmissions free of charge as i''ve never done any thing to ruin this transmission. And 2500.00 dollars is a big chuck of change that should not have happened in the first place.thank you, brad lorenz

The vehicle began shifting very roughly, then the overdrive started blinking and the vehicle ceased to shift, i was stuck in 3rd gear. There was a small "bang" in the engine compartment, then check engine light illuminated.i pulled over to a fuel station and opened the hood. There was transmission fluid all over the interior of the engine compartment, 1+ quarts. I could find no obvious leaks, but purchased some additional fluid and refilled what was lost. Since then whenever it is warm out or the car is driven for over an hour in temperatures above ~50 f, it shifts very rough and the od light and check engine light come on. I have since learned that this is a very common problem among 2.0l mazda 626's with an automatic transmission. They apparently overheat very easily. I have been told i am lucky that the transmission has not failed on me. I've taken it apart and cleaned it out several times. I also change the transmission fluid frequently. These above average maintenance routines are likely what has kept the transmission from failing altogether. The vehicle is barely tolerable to drive when it is having these problems as it will slam into the next gear hard enough to jerk the occupants forward or backward.

In june of 2002, the od warning light started to flash.i would stop the car and shut it off and then restart it and the od light would go off.on one occasion, the od light came on and stayed on and then the engine light came on.i lost power and the tachometer jumped from about 2500 rpm to over 4000 rpm at about 60 mph.i pulled over and shut the car off again and about an hour later restarted it with the od and engine warning lights still activated.there was not very much power going to the transmission.i took it to my mechanic and he told me that i should get the transmission fluid checked even though that type of maitenence was not scheduled until 60,000 miles and my car only had 57,000 mile on it.i agreed to have it checked out and change the fluid.he reset the warning lights and cleaned out the transmission and changed the fluid.about 2 weeks later, i am driving to kansas city when i notice the od light coming on again.i pulled off of the freeway and turned off my car and restarted it.4 times i did this with the the od light going off and then coming back on.finally, the od light came on, the engine light came on and the car lost all power and the speedometer went from 65 to 0.smoke started to come from the engine compartment and transmission oil blew everwhere.i coasted to a gas station and let the car sit for about 3 hours.i started the car and no warning lights came on.i checked the transmission fluid and since it was low, i added enough to bring it back to full.i was told by my mechanic that i could probably expect to have to replace my transmission very soon since these problems i am having are very common for the 1997 mazda 626. I think that mazda should have to tell its customers that this problem exists and fix it before it costs people thousands of dollars in repair bills.

While traveling noticed enginecheck light flashing, soon after vehicle started jerking. Dealer has been contacted, can't duplicate. Please provide further information.

Transmission fluid is leaking all the time.had the transmission seal replaced, but it is still leaking.leak is due to defective design of transmission (loose bearing), i was told.it sounds like i will have to get another transmission.this is unacceptable at 75k miles.this car is a lemon and is dangerous to drive when the transmission is likely to go out.the transmission needs to be recalled.

Viloent jerks and stalling of the transmission.o/d light flashes after driving for 45 minutes to an hour.the check engine light comes on also as a result.

I have a 1997 mazda 626 and with any warning the transmission has failed and the dealer is asking 2,400.00 to fix it and i think it is wrong that they haven't came forth to tell anyone about the cooling system that is soppose to fix it.

Dt:the contact stated while driving on the freeway at 55 mph the overdrive lightblinked on and off.then, the vehicle will not go over 40 mph, and the rpms increasedto 6,000.had to pull the vehicle over and wait for the rpms to go down.the vehicle was taken to the dealership, and they stated there was too much pressure in the transmission.he took the vehicle to a mechanic , who rebuilt the transmission, but the same problem recurred.

I have a 1997 mazda 626 2 l 4 cylinder with 137k miles on it. I have had nothing but problems with my transmission cd4e. It has shifted erratically since i bought it in oct. 2006and now will not shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. It will have to be rebuilt or replaced. The cd4e transmission in this care has a vast record of problems dating back to 1994. Today's transmissions and vehicles should not have this type of problem and will probably force me to buy another car which i can not afford at this time, due to the cost of repairs to the transmission.

I feel the need to do my civic duty by reporting this problem because a lot of 626 owners are having drive-train-transmission problems and eventually enough of us will get them to recall and pay for the problem.flashing o/d off light started flashing periodical about 12 months ago.took vehicle in concerning other problems to ingram park mazda, 6990 nw loop 410san antonio, tx (210) 406-0122, and the afternoon i picked up the car the o/d off light started flashing.i immediately called jeff varhoff, service consultant, and he told me that the clutch on those cars are really thin and that the transmission is probably fixing to 'go out'.he suggested that i either repair it now, let it go all the way out and then get it fixed or get rid of the car.it would be around $2500 to fix he told me.on the evening of feb. 26, 2002 the transmission did finally go out and the car will crank but the engine spins.i have found a lot on the internet concerning this problem but most of the problems happened earlier in the cars life-span.

The over drive lightflashed. Which resulted in the vehicle not switching gears.the dealership stated it was caused by the tcc solenoid.

I own a 1997 mazda 626 lx, which i bought used with 36,000 miles. At approximately 60,000 miles the transmission seized up, stranding my wife and i. Had car towed to dealership, where they informed us we needed a new transmission. Their exact words were: "we have good news and bad news. The bad news is that your warranty has expired. The good news is that we have a new transmission in stock." we then shopped around and found a less expensive transmission shop that gave us a one year guarantee, and came recommended by a mechanic friend of ours. One year and two weeks later, the transmission is overheating on long drives, spewing transmission fluid out the vent cap. Mechanics tell us we need a new torque converter, they think. In any case, we'll probably need another transmission soon. We're dumping the heap and buying a toyota camry. I'm appalled to see page after page of nearly identical complaints about the 1994 - 1998 626s. Mazda does not acknowledge the problem. How dare mazda/ford do this to hard working folks who just want to drive a dependable vehicle?*la

In feb. 2005 i purchased a 97 mazda 626 with 74000 miles on it.about 2 months later the check engine light came on.it started idling at 500-2500 rpms and had trouble switching gears.around 75 mph it would cut out and drop to 60 mph before jerking back into gear.last month my o/d off light came on and my car starting leaking transmission fluid.i had that fixed, had a new o2 sensor put in, and my o/d off light is still coming on.now my overdrive doesnt work at all and i have trouble switching it out of low gears.i have been told i need a new transmission, after already putting a great deal of money into repairs.i have 84000 miles on it right now, and after seeing hundreds of other similiar complaints online, am outraged that mazda is doing nothing as far as a recall.

1997 mazda 626 lx - transmission, catalytic converter, oxygen sensor, and computer have all been repaired in a span of 11 months.the car does not have 80,000 miles on it!

I bought a new 1997 mazda 626 in october of 1996.the transmission failed at 60,000 miles, so i spent $1800 on a new one.that transmission failed after only one year, so i had that repaired.now, 2 years later, the transmission has failed again.

O/d off : flashing occasionally.

I just bought a 1997 mazda 626 it has about 97,000 miles on it and my transmission is already failing. The over drive light turns on and the transmission skips. The mechanic says its a sensor but its not. It's also leaking transmission fluid.

1194-2002 mazda 626 4-cyl. Automatic transmissions are defective as noted in similar complaints (formal and informal; see, for example, the lengthy descriptions in 466 posts at http://www.cartrackers.com/forums/live/yourlemon/189.html, a forum dedicated specifically to this defect).i personally own a 1997 mazda 626 dx which has been experiencing the described transmission problems, indicated by the flashing "o/d off" light on the dashboard and the "torque converter clutch mechanical failure" trouble code retrieved by odbii diagnostics performed on 8/27/2004.it is my understanding that mazda has been made aware of this defect in their transmissions as early as 2002, and in may 2002, tsb# 0500502 "a/t - od off lamp flashing/dtc p1783/shift concerns" was issued.

I have contacted mazda directly. They refuse to admit that they have a defect in the cd4e transmissions on these cars even though all repair shops contacted warn not only of 70+% failure rate, but warn not to buy mazda rebuilt because they are still not repairing the defects in the tranny. Same failure rate can be found in the post 1995 and up ford contour which shares the same transmission. Mfr refuses to be of any help. Please let me know how i can proceed.

My 97 mazda 626lx automatic has 59k miles, the transmission started slipping yesterday, and the rpm's rev up to 5000 or 6000 on normal acceleration.the o/d light is flashing, and at a steady speed of 55 mph, the rpms stay at 5000.it is having a hard time shifting from 1st to 2nd - by the time i'm at 25 mph, the rpm's are at 6000.i took it in, and bottom line, i need a new transmission - at $2,900.i looked online, and found dozens, maybe hundreds of similar complaints about the 97 mazda 626.59k miles is awfully low to need a new transmission.i have kept excellent upkeep and maintenance on this vehicle.

I noticed my car shaking at idle and when i put it in park.i also noticed a puddle under my car so i took it to get looked at right away.on the way to the service station it would not shift.all symptoms i have heard on this site, but no dealer ever told me of any problem.now the car is not worth the price of a new transmission and i am without a vehicle.would have been nice to know that there was a problem with it.

No summary listed for above vehicle.i

The automatic transmission had to be replaced after only 57000 miles back in 2004. Since the warranty had expired i had to spend $2200 out of my pocket.i've been researching this problem for a while now and have noticed that 1000's of these 1997 mazda 626 cars have had similar problems.why hasn't the nhtsa forced mazda to issue a recall or at least have them reimburse car owners?

Cd4e transmission failure. *la

The transmission in my 1997 mazda 626 has gone out and would not appear to be as a result of any abuse on my part. My daughter had been driving the car when the over drive light started blinking and the motor was revving higher than normal.after visiting a mazda dealership in ft. Bragg, nc they estimate the cost to be approximately $3,600.00. After consulting a nationally known transmission repair shop, i have found that these transmissions were defective to begin with in that they were completely undersized for the motors they were attached to.this has been a problem with countless mazdas i now know and mazda has not and will not acknowledge the problem.this was an apparent design problem. To have one of their dealerships trying charge an exorbitant price for repairing the defect is slap in the face to the public when another transmission shop can repair it for approximately half of the mazdas price. The problem is so bad, i understand, that no one will install a used transmission because the used ones are just as bad.you have to repair the one you have unless you want to be extorted into buying a new one from a dealership that is still undersized for its primary use.i strongly believe that mazda is well aware of this problem and is doing its best to hide it. Given the number of complaints i've witnessed on various websites and forums etc.. It is quite obvious that mazda needs to be called on the carpet for selling known defective machinery. Its amazing how most of these failures occur just outside of warranty. I realize that i may not be entitled to any type of compensation for my car's problem given its mileage, but i would appreciate if someone could force mazda to reconcile its marketing of defective products to help someone else from having to deal with this type of business mentality.

In june of 2000 i was visiting family in detroit.while on the highway, my transmission began to slip.i took it to a repair shop, and they told me that i needed another transmission.they got a rebuilt transmission from mazda, which was supposed to address a problem they had with the original factory transmission.two and a half years later my o/d light started flashing on and off, and the mazda dealership said i needed yet another transmission.this is my third transmission, and i've only had the car since 1999.

Mazda has been aware of this problem and refuses to admit an unsafe product. $4000 into this car would only be a band-aid for this problem.i want mazda to take their car back and wipe my credit record clean. No safety defect listed.

Transmission problem a week after i bough the vehicle.vehicles transmission was rebuit over 5 times within 10k miles.

1997 mazda 626 "o/d off" flashing; needs new transmission ridiculous expensive and so many people have this same problem with the 626- unfortunately i didn't find this out until too late. Mazda needs to recall this and pay for a new transmission!

While driving at 45 mph over drive sensor light came on . As a result the vehicle lost complete power. No impact reported.dealer stated transmissionfailed.

Driving to work one day in normal traffic when was unable to accelerate past 55 to pass other cars in traffic. Then when i stopped at light i was unable to accelerate at all leading to the car not being able to more in any direction other than reverse. Car required a new torque converter, pressure plate, forward drum, and the assembly kit. Total cost from aamco was 1830 before i had them replace transmission mount and drivers side trans axle.

Automatic transmission failing; blinking lights; rough shifting.(note: i have two 97 mazda 626 2.0 ltr cars.one auto trans has failed totally, and this is my second one that is starting to fail.)

Consumer states while driving transmission failed causing vehicle to stall. Please provide any additional information.

Transmission failure o/d on light flashing, car fails to shift out of 1st gear, 2nd failure of this nature trans was rebuilt.

Od light blinking on 1997 mazda 626 lx. Told need new transmission?

Transmission defect. *nlm

I purchased a 1997 mazda 626 with 90,000 miles on it in january 2007. Recently, at 112k, the o/d light began flashing and the car jerked and struggled to shift gears. I took it to four different automotive mechanic shops and they all ran an estimate and told me the same thing - that the ford cd4e transmission in it is failing and it's only a matter of time before it quits completely. They also all informed me that this is a typical problem with this type and year transmission. It is very devastating to me because i am on a very limited income and it had proven to be such a reliable car aside from the transmission problem, running gas at aprox. 30 mpg. As i used a popular search engine to find "mazda 626 transmissions" hoping to purchase a new one, instead i was greeted with thousands of pages upon pages of complaints on the exact same problem i have encountered with the ford cd4e transmission. Neither ford nor mazda has done anything to accept responsibility; this should be inexcusable!

Flashing "o/d off" light indicates failing transmission.

Dealer refused to look at it as a warranty repair and advised me to take it back to other mazda deale where new transmission was installed and car was diagnosed for other ignition related problems.

97 mazda 626 lx transmission failed for the third time completely (cd4e).

Auto trans is not working right sliping while shifts.

Automatic transmission failure1997 mazda 626.*la

1997 mazda 626 - auto transmission failed 3 times. Cost to repair - 2300.00. Not fixed yet.

97 mazda 626 at the local mazda/dodge dealer in jupiter fl just quoted me $3200 to put in an already rebuilt transmission because they do not rebuild transmissions and the one i currently have is gone.from what i have researched on the web this is an on going problem between mazda & the transmission that ford installs for the 626 a cd4e.my engine light has been on since the early on and even the dealer could not figure out how to turn it off.my wife and are original owners and i have all the service records of this vehicle. I feel this is a major problem that mazda must address with the long list of 626 owners and their transmission problems.

This complaint is regards to the automatic transmission (atx) on my 1997 mazda 626, 2.0l i4. The transmission is manufactured by ford, model cd4e.despite faithfully changing the fluid at recommended intervals, the transmission completely died and needed replacement at 105,000 miles.this transmission was forced on mazda by ford in all post 1993 4 cylinder models, and suffers major problems with heat and metal particles due to inadequate cooling and filtration systems. The filter is internal to the transmission and inaccessible (cannot be changed) requiring the fluid to be flushed. It is also woefully under cooled, with a simple pass through the engine radiator, and no external cooler. Models subsequent to 1999 has external coolers installed, so it seems that mazda/ford are acknowledging this problem. The following link is very illustrative of the shortcomings of this vehicle:http://homepage.ntlworld.com/dorothy.bradbury/probemx/index.htm.

The transmission went out in sept. Of 2000. The car has been servised by university mazda front brakes wearing engine light , battery and shift console problems. The car is a lemon.( dot number: )

My transmission is not functioning properly.

Check engine light is activated and the o/d light is flashing. When starting from stopped the accelerator must be puched to the floor for the car to go anywhere, and it shifts very jerky. Have changed the transmission fluid and filter and the problem continues. The car only has 92 k miles and i'm afraid that the transmission needs to be replaced.

Transmission totally failed in traffic, locked up, tow caused $300.00 damage to rear bumper, had to be dragged out of traffic, wheels would not roll, repaired under warranty, transmission replaced with a factory rebuild

Consumer states overdrive light comes on intermittently, causing vehicle to jerk and stall. Dealer notified.

The over drive light all of a sudden blinked, and the transmission failed.

1. Some events leading up to the failure: blinking over drive light then started to click (almost as if it were cv joints)2. Transmission, started quietly and seldomly, then to a more frequent and louder clicking, to where the transmission finally stopped working in all.3.none yet happened today.

!997 mazda 626 auto transmission failing ... With only 38,000 miles!*la

The transmission on my 1997 mazda 626 failed at just over 65,000.i took the car to an authorized mazda dealership for repairs.the mazda mechanic told me that i needed to completely replace the transmission.to save on the final cost, i took the car to a transmission specialist, who rebuilt the transmission.i am writing today because i have since learned that mine not an isolated problem. If fact, the research that i have done (consumer reports, interenet, etc.) indicates that there are severe problems with the transmission on 1993-1998 mazda 626's (some transmissions have been replaced at only 30,000 miles). And while certainly not conclusive evidence, i was told by the transmission specialist who worked on my car they "work on mazda 626's all the time".in fact there were two other mazda 626's at the shop on the same day.one was a 1997 and the other a 1996. My sincere hope is that this problem can be resolved.

Transmission problem.

1)purchased a used '97 mazda 626 dx, with 115000+ miles on it, supposedly in decent condition.the vehicle required a new fuel pump, so wasn't in any kind of road use until replacement.after replacing, the car seemed to work fine, but had odd 'jumps' forward in low speeds and stops (making me believe i would run stop signs).the dealership refused this lemon back.2) after having the car 8wks, & only testing it around the block until all tests completed on the fuel system, it began to steam & make popping noises driving <400 yards at <20mph.after time, the noises got louder, the steam more widespread, and when the gas was pressed there was noticable lack of power for long seconds.radiator was suspected due to the steam and power issues. During 1 test while braking it jumped/lurched sideways into a weak brick wall.3)we are military mechanics, & we went through the entire fuel/transmission/oil systems by mazda's own book.we even removed the engine, completely cleaned the old gunk out, & refilled fluidwith only the finest fluids & cleansers, replacing entire sections of the engine with new parts, & still had the same problems.per mazda, they kept diagnosing anything from sensors/computer/regulators/hoses/fuel system issues.extensive searches on-line turned up a horrifying list of 100's of websites that all blasted ford's buying of mazda & resultant lowering of quality.all sites reported transmission issues, similar 'diagnosis' from bad mazda dealerships, & the end result being years of transmission replacements.tranny's would break down at early mileages.few reports of satisfaction from mazda in replacing what had to be known as deffective trannys.the mazda 626 (all versions '94 to '00) have seriously none-safe transmissions.when we fully eliminated the last of the possibilities, it was the transmission!!! mazdarefused to deal with this, nor issue a valid safety recall of 626's!spent over $2000 on new parts.this is a safety issue!!

Transmission failure, motor mount failures, overheating problems. Brake line failure. Ever since i purchased my mazda 626 used from a dealership i have had one problem after another. When i purchased the car it only had 63,000 miles. Mazda should be ashamed of the kind of cars they put out on the road.

There is a fault with the 1997 mazda's 626 transmission that the company is aware about.per phone conversation with transmission repair shop specialist they found a problem with the transmissiom and are only fixing problem if repairs to the transmission are needed.could cause potential hazard to drivers of 97 mazda 626 owners if transmission breaks in drive while traveling.

My 1997 mazda 626 had a failure of the transmission. The od light kept flashing and the car shifted erratically. The cost to rebuild was $1800.00. I have read about this problem occurring in many other older mazda cars as well. The problem first occurred in the summer of 2006. I was forced to put the car up for several months while i saved the money for the repairs. It was repaired in the summer of 2007. The car transmission is again acting erratically. There are many postings on the web that indicate that there is reason to believe that the transmissions in these cars are faulty.

A month after we bougth this car we've had problems with the transmission.we've replaced two o2 sensors ($300.00 each) and the torque converter valve ($450.00).check engine light stays on, stating problem inside transmissions.now overdrive light comes on and blinkswhen it comes on and starts to blink this means the transmission is melting and your car will quit on you while your driving down the road.also, when you press on the gas the rpm's top out but the speed doesn't increase.i had the gas pedel all the way to the floor board and the car had no power. Hopefully, this problem with the transmission failure will be resolved by you, since mazda see's nothing wrong with building cars that can possibly hurt or kill someone.

Transmissionwent out and needed to be replaced. Overdrive light came out, andgears started coming out.

Transmission failure- car is serviced on a regular basis- one drive 87,000 miles no towing or heavy loads. *nlm

Driving and car began to jerk over time.eventually, car has lead to problems going in reverse (must gas to 4000 rpm's to back up).

Transmission has failed twice, at 91k and at 120k.both times the symptoms were the same, and very similar to those of other 626 transmission failures; jerky shifting, shaking at idle, loss of certain gears, etc.

Catastrophic transmission failure on my 1997 mazda 626 4 cylinder automatic.

Mazda 626 '97, transmission failure. *la

I was told in a letter by mazda that the reason my brakes go out is because i ride my brakes and that my account was noted for this.the only problem is no one from mazda can give me a copy of the documented proof that this is the problem.they can't tell me at all what or why my tranmisson has gone out.

97 mazda 626 2 liter engine, auto transmission failures.1st transmission went out at 80,000, 2nd one went at 105,000, 3rd failure at 124,000.

O/d off light began blinking after 30 min of driving, dealership replacedcpu, next week same problem--when blinking begins the car jerks from 1st to 2nd gear and resets after car turned off--after several times it begins driving rougher and rougher in 1st and 2nd gear.( dot number:)

Wife was driving 75 mph on turnpike when she experienced a sudden transmission failure.there was no blinking lights, no noise, no anything to alert her that there was a potential problem.it just quit.additionally, she was nearly involved in a high speed rear-end collision.luckily, the individual behind her swerved and missed her car.she coasted to the shoulder where she was, again, nearly hit.once stopped, she was unable to get the car to do anything in any gear.i had to travel over an hour to get her.it was 97 degrees and she was out in the middle of nowhere without any shelter except for her crippled vehicle.by the time i arrived, she had been in the heat long enough to start experience muscle cramps from electrolyte imbalance.what is it going to take to get someone to take responsibility for these issues?if she would have been hit, mazda would have had a lawsuit on their hands.is this what it is going to take?someone just needs to "cowboy up" and take responsibility.additionally, i found out today that it will cost about $2000.00 to fix.this is with a rebuilt transmission that supposedly has new parts and should not be subject to sudden failure like the oem transmissions (per the transmission supplier).

Dt:the contact stated there was an ongoing problem with the automatic transmission.itwill make a loud noise followed by a complete shutdown.the transmission has been rebuilt three times.several mechanics attempted to repair the vehicle, but agreedthat the problemwasthe automatic transmission overdrive.the manufacturer has been contacted, and would not cover this under warranty.no further repairs have been made.

I have had the car less than 3 months and already the check engine light is on constantly.also, everytime i try to change gears the transmission stalls and it seems as if i am in neutral.it has a hard time after i change gears in either going foward and reverse.it stalls than jumps and moves.i have had several cars with more mileage than this and i never had such problems.i should not be paying as much as i am for a car that is faulty.i would suggest to mazda to recall all these cars very soon.

When the vehicle is put in gear it hesitates whenaccelerating. The dealer states that this is normal operation for thevehicle.

Flashing "o/d off" light, rough shifting, jerking, sluggish acceleration nearly resulting in t-bone collision.incidents too recent for repair actions to be attempted, but consistent with other reports regarding this particular year/make/model.

While driving at highway speedvehicle starts to jerk.engine light and od light came on.took to dealer, and dealer indicated vehicle needed new transmission. Thiswas second transmission.

(see complaint # 10149676) after having the right front cv joint replace just the day before, transmission failed again @ 72,650 mi. From a cold start, the car was allowed to warm up before being put into drive (approx 5 min.) the car was driven approximately 1/4 mile in 30 mph stop and go traffic when, after a complete stop, the car suddenly acted like it was in neutral. Even though the gear shift was still in drive. The same thing when put into reverse gear. I managed to get the car to the side of the road and turned off the ignition. Five minutes later i restarted the engine, put the gear shift in drive, and voila! i'm moving again. Another 500 feet further down the road? the same thing. Standing there idling with the gear shift in drive, no reverse, nothing. Had it towed to a transmission shop. Estimate: $1500.00 to fix this cd4e transmission again. I have decided to not have this transmission fixed this time and will trade the car in, at a substantially lower value (because the dealers all know the track record of this cd4e gem), for a honda accord. Which i considered buying instead of the mazda 626 back in late june of 2000. Mazda north american operations, in my opinion, should liable for monetary reimbursement to their customers for out-of-pocket expenses, lost time and wages, and aggravation on the basis that they have been fraudulent. Signed, former mazda customer.

Problem with the transmission in my 1997 mazda 626

Automatic transmission failure. Vehicle will not move in reverse gear.

I have a 1997 mazda, that i baught from my friend in 2001. It had a transmission breakdown when at had around 30k miles on it. Transmission was replaced by mazda as it was still under warrenty. Now it has 112k miles on it and the overdrive light blinks. I was searching on the web to get some clue on the problem and i found plenty of people complaining about the same problem and replacing their transmission with thousands of dollars.my beleif is that there is a manufacturing defect on this vehicle. It should be fixed by the company and not cost the owners thousands of dollars. So far nothing dangerous has happened but it should be fixed before some thing happens.

1997 mazda 626 transmission going out and the dealers would not agree to replace or acknowledge the problem with a car.

No summary listed for above vehicle.

Automatic transmission problems.this is the second time the transmission has gone out.first transmission was replaced by mazda in 2001.second, when car was placed in "park" it became stuck.it could not be unlocked from park, could not be pushed out of the way, and the car had to be towed.the mechanic says it is a computer chip in the console that is causing the problem.

The transmission acts up switching from 1st to 2nd gear. It goes into high rpm and then jerks into 2nd gear. After driving for a little while, the o/d (overdrive) light begins to flash and it only turns off if the car is turned off. A mechanic has looked at it and says that it is the transmission acting inconsistently.

My husband and i had bought our 1997 mazda 626 lx used that we had for 40 months now and our 1st transmission failure happened at about 68,000 miles in april 2002, and now our transmission is failing again this will mark the 2nd time that we have to fix this transmission the first time it cost us $2,160.53. Also our o/d light has been flashing off and on since our transmission first messed up just last year. Its really messed up that it has just been a little over a year and it is time to fix this transmission again. If there is any class action lawsuits that is going to be filed against this situation we are going to make sure that we join in. There are cars that run for years that never need transmissions fixed, if we knew this car had this many complaints and problems we would have never got it!!*nlm

1997 mazda 626 lx 4 dr automatic transmission.

At 41,000 miles transmission has malfunctioned, and will not go into reverse cause unknown.

Two months after purchasing a 97 mazda 626 i had to replace the trans because it was severely slipping, upon inspection of the transmission it was found to be bad.now after another month after replacing it with a remanufactured unit it fried again, and had to be towed home.

While driving at any speed the over drive light appeared on the dashboard and remained on.the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.the mechanic informed the driver that the transmission needed to be replaced due to worn parts.however, the problem still occurs at this time.please provide any additional information.

While driving 200 miles across state on sr 70 my o/d off light began to blink and my check engine light came on. I took it to the mazda dealer thatweek and was told that i was having transmission failure and was told that codes p1744, p0741 & p1783 came up during a diagnostics test. I was told that i should have a transmission service and "wait and see" since my gears weren't slipping at the time.last week during the same drive across state my o/d off light started blinking again, and this time while trying to pass a car on sr 70 (a 2 lane hwy) the transmission slipped as i was in the oncoming lane. Fortunately it kicked back in and i didnt have the problem again. (havent traveled since then)i took it back to mazda and was told that they would pay for the transmission, (since i had called last month to complain that there was absolutely no reason why a car w/ 57k miles should have a failing transmission, unless ofcourse it was defective.they offered to pay for the trans, but i am still responsible for the labor and was offered no warranty.i have done a lot of research and have found that these 626 transmission chronically have this problem and i have found hundreds of complaints about it online. I can not believe it has not been recalled. Have not enough people complained, would it cost mazda too much money or do they really believe that this is not a problem?well as a single mother who relys on her car and still owes $12k on it, it is a problem. A big problem and i hope that corrective measures are taken.

I bought a mazda 626 brand new from the dealer.after a yeah i took the car to a dealer 3 times because i felt shifting problem with the tranny. The dealer told me that there is nothing with the car. At 95k mile my tranny went and i called the mazda, they told me im lucky to have it for that long. They will not do anything about it because its a problem that i caused. They didn't even look the record to the dealer or have it checked.

My wife and i own a 1997 mazda 626.in 2006, seemingly out of nowhere, the transmission started shifting rough.i checked fluid levels but they were fine.then while driving on the interstate one morning, my o/d kicked off (with warning light) and the entire drive home was extremely rough.brought the car to a reputable local transmission shop and as soon as i told them what kind of car i had, they knew right away what the problem was.i ended up paying $2000 to have a new transmission installed due to the extent of damage in the original.seems to me that if all of the transmission shops and (as i found out later) owner forums know about the problems with these transmissions, mazda/ford probably knows as well.it's irresponsible to know that a $50 repair could correct the problem but they do nothing to even inform their buyers of the problems. $50 would have been a lot easier to come up with than $2000.summed up:transmission overheated due to insufficient cooling causing severe transmission failure.transmission had to be completely replaced.

Bought '97 mazda 626 lx used with only 67000 miles on it.soon the "o/d off" lamp keeps blinking and it changes gear roughly.it is said the transmission will fail soon and will do no good even if you change the tranny with $$$$.it is really astounding to find so many pepole have the same problem in just one forum: http://www.cartrackers.com/forums/live/yourlemon/189.htmlmany people had even worse experiences than mine.i am wondering what this model is if it is not a lemon?hope you take necessary measure before it killing people by suddenly broken down in the interstate. (if no one has been killed yet).

Well first off i was driving and my speed started to drop so naturally i pressed the gas harder and harder and the rpms just kept shooting up and the car wouldn't go and my engine was roaring like a mustang trying to race someone. So my overdrive light in the dash starting blinking on and off and i knew something was screwy so i pulled off to the side and restarted my car. My car wouldn't go anywhere when i pushed the gas the rpm needle would just shoot up as if i had my car in park. After having it towed all over town, to find the best quality service on a new transmission i learned that 626s' have the worst transmissions ever!!! it cost me $2,000 for a new transmission. I think i deserve to be reimbursed, as well as the other people who have had the same problem.

I have a 97 mazda 626 with 88000 miles and the automatic transmission is failing. Strated out with a problem shifting to third gear, but now the o/d light is blinking. The mechanic says that it need a new transmission that will cost $2000. I have maintained this car pretty well and it shouldn't have problems, unless the producty is faulty. So many people have complained about this problem. Something should be done.

Vehicle shifted into overdrive and bucked at high speeds. Then, transmissionmalfunctioned.this has been happening for about 4 months.problem was reported todealership. Problem has not been corrected.

The transmission on my car went at 63000 miles, told by the dealer "rosenthal mazda" that this was common.according to the dealer, " the 626's are in here all the time to have the trannies rebuilt, you should be happy yours lasted to 60k"bullcrap, shouldn't there be some accountability on mazda/ford's part.all over the net you see problems with the tranny on this piece of crap yet the nhtsa does nothing, what a joke.

Transmission suddenly would not change into high gear and had no reverse.the next day it was worse.i took it to aamco and they did a complete rebuild of transmission and torque converter to the tune of $2,000.

1997 mazda 626.the transmission was completely rebuild at 70,000 miles. *nlm

Transmission light keeps blinking once rpm reaches of 3.

While driving at 40 to 50 mphtransmission jerked violently.when the vehicle changed gearsvery hard andwith a thump.vehicle was diagnosed as transmission failure. Consumer replaced the transmission once, but problem recurred.

1997 mazda 626 transmission failure. The car has 100,000 mile and the transmission is a tost.it looks like there are tons of other mazdas with the same problem.it should be recalled.

Transmission failure on this automobile at 90,000, and again at 140,000 miles.

Transmission has failed at 55000 miles for no reason.

I own a 1997 mazda 626 lx and it has a manufacturer defect in the transmission. I take great pre-maintenance and only have 69,000 miles on the car and the transmission is defected and not functioning properly.

Has an automatic transmission.when driven at high speeds (over 70 mph) the o/d light begins to blink and the engine revs an extra 400 rpms while maintaining the same speed.when driven at lower speeds, transmission shifts harshly.took it to a dealer to have it checked and the dealer says that the transmission is ready to give up and replacing it will cost me $3400.mazda needs to remedied this issue before this problem turns deadly.

Mazda premature transmission failure at 90000. O/d light blinks and transmission overheats.poor placement of transmission filter.this transmission is manufactured i believe from 95-2000 and many complaints have arose throughout all production years.all over the internet including a class action being filed in michigan.i think it should be nationally filed.dealerships are non responsive.

Vehicle was in repair shop. Computer chip and sensor had to be replaced. Also, overdrive light kept blinking, and transmission malfunctioned and has to be rebuilt. *ml

1) normal daily use (20) miles to from work on highway roads2) transmission won't work3) complete transmission removal and rebuild required.i can't believe the amount of information and complaints all over the internet on this mazda/ford transmission problem. I also can't believe this government office has still not acted on it. Surely doesn't appear to be our tax dollars working for the tax payers here. There is a long history of worn out transmissions caused by faulty cooling design on this combined used mazda/ford transmissions model la4a-el. Mine is installed in a 1997 mazda 626 4 cylinder. Will this agency please acknowledge all these complaints. This is costing hard working people a lot of money to replace these transmissions.

Dt*:the contact stated while driving 40mph, the over drive light illuminated and the vehicle stalled.the vehicle was towed to a local independent transmission repair shop.the repair personnel rebuilt the transmission and the vehicle operated normally.the vehicle had the same problem again.the over drive light illuminated and the vehicle stalled.the vehicle is awaiting tow into the transmission repair shop for inspection and repair.

While drvingoverdrive light illuminates, indicating a malfunction. Shortly aftervehicle shifts from drive into another gear, cause unknown. Please provide any further information.

Our 1997 mazda 626, 76,000 miles suffered transmission failure.repair shop has indicated a replacement cost of $2500.i feel this is an equipment failure that ought to be reimbursed by mazda.

While driving 35 mph transmission down shifted on its own. Consumer took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determined that the engine needed replacing.

When driving for approximately 2-4 hours the od off light started flashing. I've researched this incident and apparently the transmission gets too hot frequently resulting in costly repair! i had to drive back home after deciding not to continue my vacationand every 2 hours stopped to let the car cool because light ( od off) started to flash.

Mazda 626 1997 4 cylinder transmission problemonce the o/d off light came on. When i shift into reverse, sometime it does not move.after driving for a few minutes the car jerks and struggles with erratic shifting of gears. This is accompanied by an increase in the engine rpm and noise. Car still drives but may not be safe. Check engine light shows fault with transmission range switch.

While at a stop vehicle would jerk upon taking off.took to mechanic, and they replacedtransmission.at 67000 milesvehicle has had 4 transmissions. Please provide any further information.

There have been an overwhelming number of complaints from mazda 626 owners with this same problem. My transmission has failed twice and is about to go into its 3rd rebuild in 18 months. Please, please just read this page of this message board and you will find an incredibly high number of owners reporting the same problem. If this many people reported the problem, imagine how many others there are that haven't done so. I whole heartedly believe that these transmissions should be recalled. Transmission failure for 1997 mazda 626 lx with 58,000 miles cost over $2500 to repair. *la

Transmission on my 1997 mazda 626 went out in december of 2001. Mazda would not acknowledge the problem, but they were willing to let me pay $3,000 for a new transmission. I traded it in at a loss, just to be rid of it.

Transmission keeps failing, with only regular daily driving. Failed at 6000.ad to pay 2000k for t to be fixed. This is a very bad transmission for the car!

I have some problem about my car. Mazda 626 1997 automatic.like everyone else, the transmission went down at 95,822 miles.i've found out that that problem happens to every 626 mazda.they [mazda] have to do something about this.i'm just only student from thailand.i don't have that much money to fix it.{2000-3000$}. My car is not worth that much.please help me tell them {mazda} to do something.

While driving from sarasota to wpb going approx 65-70 mph the o/d off light started blinking although it wasnt off. The check engine light came on and the next day i took it to the dealer and i was told the transmission was failing and suggested i have the transmission serviced and watch and see since the trans wasnt slipping.well 1 month later while traveling again from sarasota to wpb not only did the o/d off light come on while trying to pass the trans did slip. I was told the trans would need to be replaced and since i had complained to mazda that there was absolutely no reason a 57k trans should be failing they offered to pay for the trans but i would be responsible for labor. At this time i have yet to have it done and will insist that mazda pay for the labor also. I have done a lot of research and this apparently is a major problem with these certain trans. I had mentioned to stephanie at mazda customer service that i found it funny that mazda will recall gas caps, but yet with such a defective transmission, not a thing is mentioned.i absolutely can not believe that these transmissions have not been recalled. Is it because not enough people have complained? or is it that no one has died? how does this work. I am very upset with this and it needs to be taken c are of. Mazda will not do anything unless they are made to. Please investigate this. I have seen hundreds of complaints on this exact problem on sites such as complaintcenter.com, complaincenter.com, yahoo forums,dustbury.com/626/trans.html etc. Etc.

Transmission failure.the od light started blinking and when i stopped the car, it would not shift into drive. I let the car sit a few minutes and tried again. It seemed to go but took a lot more engine power to make the car drive. The next day the car started to pop out of gear while driving and would not go back into gear. Stopped the car and had it towed to a transmission shop who stated that the transmission had failed and needed to be rebuilt. 130000 miles on the car.

This automobile was purchased for my out of state college student.upon returning to school from thanksgiving break the o/d off light began flashing, followed by erratic transmission problems driving.he stopped the vehicle and called home.once the vehicle comes to a stop, in gear, it ceases tobe able to move again until the engine is stopped. After approximately 1 minute the vehicle can be restarted and the transmission placed into gear and movement occurs.i had it taken to a mazda dealership and was told the transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $3000.absolutely ridiculous!i had the vehicle towed to my local mechanic who dropped the transmission pan, discovered a lot of metal shavings and also suggested replacing the transmission.after reviewing other compaints on this web site, it is obvious that their is an issue with this model of transmission that should be addressed by the manufacturer.i know this is a ford transmission also found in the contour model but have not inquired about these complaints.this needs to be addressed and investigated.it has been a long time coming with no visible results.somebody do something!!

The gear change is very jerky and at high speeds after driving for about 30 mins it gets even more jerky as if someone has hit you from behind. During rush hour traffic it gets risky as in stop and go traffic conditions the sudden gear jerks are so severe that the car jumps forward and gets very close to the car in front.

While driving 50 mph, the rpms shot up and the speedometer dropped due to transmission failing.vehicle is being repaired .please provide details.

Engine was running badly, engine and oil light came on. Dealer found engine had "sludged" up, had to replace engine. In october of 1999, transmission went out.

I have a 1997 mazda 626 with a ford cd4e transmission. I have read numerous stories of early transmission failure with this transmission. I am experiencing it myself. I have filed numerous complaints and the only thing i have accomplished it put wear and tear on my keyboard. I also have a 1998 buick lesabre with a plastic intake manifold. It has 124,000 miles on it and the engine sounds like a diesel. This defect has been known to cause premature engine failure in numerous cases. What is going on? i would vote to fire all the ford and general motor engineers. I am a disabled man stuck with two pieces of engineering stupidity. All i can do is every once in a while is to beat on this keyboard and feel like there is nothing i can do about this. Is there? the injury is to my trust as well as my wallet.

Transmission would jump while trying to shift from park to drive or from drive to park. Sometimes would fail to shift. Happened at least 4-5 times before taken to dealer.mechanic indicated a defect intransmission was causing the problem and it could be repaired.

Repeated transmission and motor mount problems /axles too.

Transmission failure at 78,000 miles. Rebuilt installed under extended warranty. Failed again at 90,000 miles. Will not go into reverse unless i speed up engine. Mazda needs to 'fess up to this problem. I tell everybody i know and i know a lot of people. I have a 1987 chev celebrity wagon 130,000 miles and original transmission, shifts like the day i bought it! mazda please see what gm is doing right.

Failure of automatic transmissions at an early mileage range. Either have to replace or have transmission rebuilt.

I own a 1997 mazda 626, at 57,000 miles my 2nd transmission has failed.my first transmission failed over a year ago at under 50,000.mazda dealers do little more than laugh about this problem and of course give me a bid for a new transmission.it is my understanding that mazda knew of this problem and did nothing to correct it and allowed the warrenties to expire without informing owners of the defect.

Transmission in 97 626 mazda 4cyl locked up when turning cruise control off on interstatecausing the front wheels to lock up and slidingthe vehicle to a stopthe trans is no good now . Should the manufacture be responsible to fix the problem.

1997 mazda 626 transmission gave up at around 85,000 miles. The o/d light blinks at speeds of 60+ mph and the car sometimes completely lose power making it a dangerous ride.

I drove my 1997 mazda 626 for a day after i bought it from a used car salesman as is.all of a sudden the o/d off light came on and on, then parked it, and just 20 mins later i could not reverse it. When i shift into neutral it acts as if its in drive and neutral in reverse and drive is drive. I've read online about people with the same car having the exact same problems and was told to file a complaint here. Please bring mazda to justice on their 626 trannys!!

I have a 1997 mazda 626 lx. The transmission failed right at 70,000 miles. It cost me $2,600 to get it fixed. It was not under warranty so i had to pay for it. I checked around and have found numerous others who have also had transmission failures under 70,000 miles. The transmission repair shop said they get a ton of these cars with transmission problems. I feel mazda should compensate us for these repairs because of their faulty transmission.*la

I recently experienced problems with the transmission on my 1997 mazda 626 after only 61,406 miles.luckily i purchased an extended warranty at the time of the original purchase of the car.however, upon replacing my transmission with a "remanufactured" one i have again experienced transmission problems.it is obvious that there are some serious problems with the engineering of the transmissions that went into this model year car.i have read similar complaints on consumer complaint boards on the internet.what has exasperated this situation even more is when i brought my car in for repairs the dealership (actually two different ones) recommended that i purchase a transmission cooling kit for about $100.00 as they stated that the transmission just couldn't take the heat of the deep south (i live in the new orleans area).this really irked me.i couldn't believe that these two dealerships were trying to get me to pay for this kit when it is obviously a problem with the engineering of the transmissions or associated electrical components.i called mazda usa customer service and they said that they would not pay for this kit installation and they did not think it was at all needed.in other words there is no problem with transmission overheating even in the south according to mazda motors north america.i would like to know how many other mazda owners (especially those in the south) have been told by their dealerships that their transmission woes can be solved by purchase and installation of this cooling kit.i would hope that no one has been persuaded into purchasing one of these kits when its not their problem to pay for- it is the dealership's or mazda motors responsibility to repair this problem!

Defective 1997 mazda 626 transmission. Failure after only 65,000 miles. Overdrive off light starts blinking and transmission starts acting up. I've been surfing the internet and found that many people have encountered this problem. Many of them with even less miles. This transmission is clearly defective and something needs to be done, especially since the cost of fixing this problem is over $2000.*nlm

Dear sir/madam, after i had my transmission problem i contacted with transmission repair shop but they could not fix the transmission. The main problem with the transmission is od light flashes and the transmission fails to work properly. I have heard that this is a general problem for mazda 626. Even on the internet many mazda 626 owners complain about this problem. I know the mileage of my car is high but even for the low mileages people encounter with the similar transmission problems for mazda 626. If this is a general problem why doesn`t the mazda company recall and fix the problem? this problem costs too much money for the customers and maybe some dangerous situations on highways or busy traffic. Thank you for giving me chance to inform you about this.

1997 mazda 626, transmission replaced by mazda due to extended warranty at approximately 100,000 miles.vehicle now has 183,000 miles and the transmission is slipping again.i have had this car garaged for 2 years as the cost of replacing the transmission again is prohibitive.replaced trans fluid with synthetic and it runs better however if i had know their was a problem with the transmission for this car i would have sold it a long time ago and would have installed a transmission cooler when it was replaced.the state should order a recall or you would think there would be a group of attorney's who would like to file a class action suitagainst mazda!!!

Transmission is stuck in neutral.

O/d light starts blinking at highway speeds. When blinking the transmission shifts harshly in first and second gear. The problem can be corrected by turning of the engine. I took it to a mazda dealer and they stated that the torque converter was sticking, and a new transmission is needed at a cost of approximately $2,800. This is a replacement transmission, the original was replaced at approx. 25,000. There appears to be something defective about this transmission or else it would not be failing so often.

Transmission misses from 1st to second gear.know of several mazda owners, all have had transmissions replaced at least once. / had one sensor replaced, following week light back on and service department replied i need to replace two more.

Will not purchase another mazda in the future, this was my third.no summary listed for above vehicle.

I have a 1997 mazda 626.the transmission neededto be replaced for over $1,000. I was told that mazda put in bad transmissions in these cars.mazda should have to pay for all of these transmissions through a recall.

Transmission failed on a mazda 626 '97 4cyl, hardly 9 years after manufacture. I had to replace the whole transmission on the vehicle.

1997 mazda 626his car continues to have transmission problems. All of the problems are intermittent. Occasionally the car will not accelerate even when the rpm's climb. The automatic transmission shifts hard, it slams from gear to gear especially when shifting up a gear. Overdrive slips in and out, the overdrive light flashes when the overdrive slips. There is one isolated incident on a long highway trip where the car would not go above 45. It started to smoke and so i pulled over and shut off the car. I still have not figured out where the transmission fluid came from but when i looked under the hood there was fluid everywhere, as if about a quart of fluid had been sprayed or burst.

1997 mazda 626 lx 2.0 automatic transmission is slipping.the car hesitates excelerating at different speeds, mostly around 40 to 60 mph.i am now at 82500 miles and have found numerous posts on the internet about transmission issues.along with this my check engine light has been on for the last 3 yrs with not one mazda dealership or mechanic being able to keep it off for longer than 30 miles.i have replaced timing belt tensioners, mass air flows, o2 sensors, fuel filters pcv valve, and numerous more.i guess the problems never end and i am tired of it being "my" problems and not mazda's!

The transmission is slipping either by overheating or bad transmission by mazda, and my car only has 119,000 miles on it.i'd like to know when are they recall all the 626's and fix the problem, or i'll sue the company.this is so unfair that they stop making 626's, for what reason.

While driving at any speed the transmission would decelerate even when the consumers foot was on the accelerator.this made it difficult for the consumer to control the vehicle.*nlm

I was driving my 1997 mazda 626 when all of a sudden, the transmission started shifting hard and acting weird. This was the car's 2nd transmission it had replaced. I fixed the problem by buying a new radiator and an auxiliary cooler because the transmission had overheated.

Automatic transmission failed twice and had to be replaced twice: first at 28596 miles then at 56449 miles.

1997 mazda 626 transmission failure.

1. Some events leading up to the failure: blinking over drive light then started to click (almost as if it were cv joints)2. Transmission, started quietly and seldomly, then to a more frequent and louder clicking, to where the transmission finally stopped working in all.3.none yet happened today.

The transmission failed at 80000 miles . The motor mounts , water pump, oxygen sensor , catalytic converter , got spoiled and the check engine light keeps blinking

The mazda i own is a 1997 mazda 625 with a cd-4eford automatic transmission. It has 96,000 miles on it and the transmission is failing. I have read wherenumerous people have replaced this transmission multiple times only to have it fail again and again. I have filed this complaint with several agencies and i have never been offered a solution or even a response. Numerous people are in the same boat and desperately looking for some recourse. I really wonder if anyone out there really cares that we are being forced to deal with a totally defective transmission which should have been recalled years ago. This is total highway robbery.

Transmission.

Transmission failure of my 1997 mazda 626 at just over 79k miles.the incident occurred while i was on a highway type road at a speed in excess of 55 mph, which could have resulted in damage or injury.this vehicle has been meticulously maintained according to mazda warranty specifications.i have been informed by mazda that i do not qualify for after warranty assistance, even though they have issued a tsb for the issue in question and i was never informed of same by no less than 3 mazda authorized service stations.

I have had nothing but trouble with my 1997 mazda 626 since i got it on february 14, 2003.the rpm's shoot up and down all the time and the oc sensor is bad and now the transmission is going out already.i only have 80,000 miles on my vehicle and see no reason as to why all of these problems have occured.i have had it in the shop 4 times since i got it a little over aa year ago.i really like the new mazda 6's that are out but am real reluctant on buying a new one due to the fact that i have had so many problems with the mazda that i have now and parts are so expensive.i was told it was going to cost $750.00 in order to fix the oc sensor, that is just crazy.please help!i see all the complaints that on the transmission going out at low mileage, insane.

1997 626 mazda transmission!this transmission will not hold up! i've had it replaced 2 times (over $3400) and the previous owner once. It went out with me at 66k. It's acting up again and i'm told the need $2500 more to correct the problem. The transmission shops have told me the transmission is a piece of junk! it's been parked for over a year because i can't afford the repair bill and also i can't in conscious sell to any other poor soul!

I have a 1997 mazda 626 that the o/d light has begun flashing and the engine light has come on.after the o/d light comes on the transmission begins getting jerky.the error codes indicate a torque converter problem in the transmission.i have 99,500 miles on the car and had the transmission oil changed at 75,000 miles because i read that these cars have a history of bad transmissions. I called two mazda dealers and they told me these cars have bad transmissions and it will cost around $3,000 to replace.

While traveling noticed enginecheck light flashing, soon after vehicle started jerking. Dealer has been contacted, can't duplicate. Please provide further information.

Vehicle interior fading.

Etc.

Engine was running badly, engine and oil light came on. Dealer found engine had "sludged" up, had to replace engine. In october of 1999, transmission went out.

The timing chain has broke twice. In jun 1999 and again in oct 2000. Both times we were away from home and had the car towed to mazda at our expense. To cars engine light continues to come on and mazda says its the exhaust/catalictic converter. We fixed the converter and the engine light is still on and the car shakes. Mazda refuses to fix the engine. Our insurance company even said they would replace the engine with a new one but mazda refused that also. Mazda will not fix this car and unitl they do we don't drive it for long distances. We can not even sell it until this problem is fixed.

Vehicle experienced sudden acceleration resulting in vehicle going through glass plate window of commercial business.

Dt: caller was driving her car and engine staled at speeds 20, 25, 35, 45 or 55 mph. Car ran good for a while then it just stalled when accelerator was pressed. .numerous times callerhadvehicle serviced, but it is still did not working properly.
