If that's the case why didn't the other company advise me of that same problem. Now the car won't start. I have talked with other people with the same car nd they are having the same problem. The last serious issue was the car shut off while i was driving on the interstate with my 4 year old and 1 year old. Overdrive light started to flash at around 70k miles, then stopped.then started and stopped for the next 20k miles after which my transmission is leaking oil and my mechanic told me the overdrive is burnt.i looked on the web and found out that the mazda 626 '95 transmission is poorly designed because it does not properly cool the transmission oil. *nlm

Transmission just went out on my daughter two hundred miles from home.wife is disabled and our medical bills are high.what do i do.the car was a mazda 626 1995.we already had transmission replaced once and now it needs another one.

The o/d started blinking while i was on a highway and i could not turn it off even when i turned the car off.car was really shaking and i took it to mazda dealership the next day. They told me it is transmission and it would cost 2090 can + tax to fix it.car has less than 103 k.

Overdrive off light started flashing 3 days on open road, engine light comes on at 35 mph, took to dealer said "these cars just reset themselves. There's no problem according to the computer."wants to stall at times, but doesn't. Disappointed in a car that was a grad "gift"

Car demonstrates known automatic transmission issues for this make/model/year - o/d light flashing on and off, erratic gear shifting resulting in dangerous operation on the road.

My o/d light blinks constantly.there are quirks in the speedometer when set, when i put the car in gear it will not move.the mazda dealer told me off hand that there is a problem with the transmission because he did a road test and found that it was shifting harshsly.i also understand that basically the problem i'm having with the transmission is what i found on the website stating that this is a problem mazda and ford basically knew was going to happen.the transmission that i have in my car from the years after 1994 is a cd4e by ford. Now this version, is known to have terrible repair record, and some of it is the transmission's fault and mazda.now when i first obtained this car i needed a work order done on this car and the problem generated from the transmission. The version i have is prone to blowing out the pump gasket, failure rate of the original forward-clutch assembly is high, and line pressure occassionally goes off the scale. I feel that these compaines should not get away with not paying the bill, because now my car is not working and i don't have the money to pay for it.i am going to have to get touch with the 300 people i found on the internet a protest this matter. Becasuse i checked your record and found that there are a lot of other people complaining about the same thing and you are not doing anything about.why do you exist.

Transmission; the consumer was driving the vehicle and the transmission went out, causing vehicle to stop in traffic.

There is something wrong with my 1995 mazda 626's transmission.it is only at 93,000 miles, and i think the transmission is shot.it shifts very hard into gear.when it is in drive, sometimes it shifts into neutral if i am idling.i usually have to shift it into neutral and then back into drive for it to get back in gear. I am taking it to get checked out tonight.

My trasnmission went out.

Poor/erratic shifting, transmission overheatingrepairs too expensive to justify, no repairs made, swapped transmission from junkyard.new transmission exhibiting exact same issues.

Transmission failed at 83000 miles on 95 maxda 626. Internal problems.

I wish i could back up the time and return this car to the dealer i've purchased it from, the transmission in this car sucks big time.and i want my money or a free repair from mazda.

My o/d off light began flashing at 60k miles.i took it to a mazda dealer and they could find no codes.it began to happen more often, usually after driving 2 hrs at speeds over 60 mph.frequent checks for codes, changing transmission fluid gave us hope , but the problem returned each time.the lastest was the flashing o/d off lite and dropping out of o/d on its own.the mazda people said the fluid was overheated and had been over filled.they changed the fluid.when the problem came back, they found the codes 628 and 652.they say that the tourque converter was shreading and impeding the circulation the transmission fluid.the bottom line is according to the mazda dealer i need a new transmission and an add on cooler for the fluid.what a great design this transaxle must be.many failures with original mileage under 80k, replacements fail, warranties don't last long, and ford/mazda don't seem to care that their products are failing without doing something about it.

The contact owns a 1995 mazda 626.while driving 70 mph, the transmission began to make a loud banging noise.the rpm's would rise and then drop, causing the vehicle to surge forward.the vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer.the failure mileage was 78,000.

For the last fives years, the o/d light has been constantly flashing. Sometimes the o/d light would go off after a few days to a week, and at other times when we have taken the vehicle to the mazda dealer. Whenever the o/d light is flashing the vehicle begins to jerk hard when in reverse, on startup or when the vehicle shifts into a low gear. There have been many instances where the vehicle is unable to maintain idle on startup or while in drive. The only solution is to ride the brakes and gas until its able to maintain idle. So far i have had the transmission rebuilt once by mazda via ammco and the airflow sensor replaced twice by mazda. Upon having the second airflow sensor replaced, i was told by mazda that the transmission is fried and needs to be fixed a second time. After taking the vehicle back to ammco (still under the warranty from the first rebuilding) they said all that the transmission needed was celluloid. After about a week of the vehicle running quite well, the o/d light is back on flashing and the vehicle is back to its jerking ways.

I bought my 1995 mazda 626 automatic new at about 57000 miles(just out of warranty) the o/d light began blinking and the transmission ran rough esp. Between first and second gear. Mazda wanted me to put a new transmission in at a cost of $1700,which i declined. Now with 140000 miles,i have had no choice but to have the transmission re-built at a cost of $2100. I see on the internet that this has been a wide-spread problem with mazda's and i think they should cover their parts and stand behind their products!

Overdrive light intermittently goes on and off causing car to buck, jerk and hesitate. During that time the rpm soars in the range of 8-10. This occurs when driving any amount of time. Transmission has been replaced several times with the same result.

I have read so many sad storys on the web about the poor ford cd4e automatic transmission. I bought the mazda 626 in 5/25/99. The transmission was broken in 7/20/99. I sent it to the shop named cottman transmission. They charged me $1999 for fixing it. But they did not fixed it well. In 1/17/2002, the transmission is bad again. I sent it to aamco, they said that due to wrong installation, the path for the transmission fluid was blocked. So the metal parts contact to each other. I have to pay $2500 for the repair. I am so angry. I think mazda company has to be responsible forthis bad transmission.

I purchased my 1995 mazda 626 new.after having the car for only a few months and less than 3,000 miles the transmission went out and had to be replaced.because the car was under warranty, they replaced it.however, it was only after the car left me on the side of the road that they agreed to fix it.i had taken the car in three times previously because of problems, but each time they said it was something different and that they had fixed it.recently, i had the transmission rebuilt.i have taken it back 4 times in the past 4 months because i am still having problems with it.no one should ever buy a mazda again!i have seen the numerous posts regarding problems with the transmission and each of them describe what happened to mine.the overdrive light flashes off and on, it has difficulty going into gear, it stalls between gears and constantly leaks transmission fluid.mazda should be forced to recall this transmission!

While parked car in park gear/emergency brake on and no occupants, car began to have wratcheting noise.then the car rolled down backwards by itself in park.

I purchased a1995 mazda 626 with 04,000 on 106,000 the transmission went. I found out that the transmission for this car is really a ford cd4e. All over the internet there are people with the same complaint about this transmission. I have paid $2,500 for a new transmission it is being installed now. When will there be a recall?

The o/d light on the dashboard began to flash at about 75000 miles.when the light is flashing the transmission shifts hard, but if theo/d light stops blinking, the transmission runs smoothly.myself and countless other people have encountered the same situation.mazda/ford need to take resposibility for a faulty product.

Od off light flashes; mechanic checked and replaced o2 sensor.problem still happens.research on this website indicates i am looking at a transmission replacement soon.i think the number of complaints about the same problem warrants a recall. *nlm

I bought a 1995 mazda 626 and i had it 2 or 3 days had to replace the transmission .that was 2,400.00 .still have all kinds of trouble out of the transmission in back 7 or 8 times still spits out all the transmission fluid .it is over heating took it to bull chevrolet they put new intake gaskets on it and checked for a blown head gasket said it was not the head gasket .we replaced the water pump and thermostat and to find out there was nothing wrong with the other parts .i don't believe the chevrolet check to see if it had a blown head gasketcause the next day we took the head off and all the pistons had water just standing on top of them.now i'm out another 2500.00 .

Owner states that while driving vehicle the automatic transmission drops into a lower gear without warning, owner is concerned about problem, dealer cannot find anything wrong.

Gear downshifted from 60 mph to 5 mph while driving. The o/d light started blinking with huge vibration.a similar incident happened on 2002 feb.

When driving the car while in "d", the car with cut off right in traffic without warning but if you drive it in the lower gears it won't cut off.nothing have been done to correct the problem.the car is just sitting.my aunt was told it was the transmission failing.it's happened off and on but it's worst now.

My 1995 mazda 626 has gone though two transmissionsdespite beeing well cared for.the vehicle had only 130,000 miles on it.my girlfreinds 1996 mazda 626 has gone though two as well and has 101,000 miles. My brothers mazda 626 had simular issues before selling it to some other non suspecting consumer.consumer reports has shown them to be troubled in this area, to say the least.mazda has made no efforts to resolve this issue.for some mazda owners an unexpected $2,000-$2,500 bill could be a life altering expense.when will we see a government forced recall?mazda should be held responsible.i will never purchase a mazda vehicle again.thank you for providing a forum for such complaints.

Mazda 626 transmission broke after just 50000 miles: we were driving from ny to pittsburgh on our way home and the o/d light started flashing. After pulling the car to the next exit burning smell started coming in so we took the car to pep boys who changed the transmission fluid but it still didn't fix the problem of car unable to move/slip gears when occasionally it moved. Took the car to aamcowho replaced the whole transmission and the total cost came to somewhere like $4000. On doing further research on the internet found out that mazda was putting ford transmissions in some of there vehicles and ford had issue with the transmissions for there own vehicles at one point. Here is the link for all the people who had issues with there transmission for mazda cars. I was just wondering with so many people having issues and many more who haven't even registered or filed complaint, how come authorities have not yet recalled this car or ordered mazda to fix this issue at there own cost. I have tried to talk to mazda directly and it has just been waste of time for me. Hopefully there would be some action taken soon for this transmission issue.http://www.cartrackers.com/forums/live/yourlemon/189.html

O/d light flashing, fixed the same problem about 6 months ago.mechanic says happens to all mazda's with the ford transmission.mazda not making a recall.

1995 mazda 626 purchased used in 1998 with appx. 30,000 miles at time of purchase.vehicle currently has 40,000 miles and the transmission has totally burned out.took vehicle to dealer in july 2005.i was informed that i needed a new transmission.i asked why would a vehicle with only 40,000 miles need a new transmission.car was only driven on weekends for short trip.in the 7 years that i've had the vehicle it was only driver 10,000 miles.i paid over 18,000 for a vehicle that gets only 10,000 miles?or 40,000 total?asked mazda to pick up the cost of repair which is $4,000 as this is as recurring problem with certain of their model vehicles due to the installation of a ford transmission in these makes//modesl.mazda has advised that my warranty period has expired.i stated that it's not a warranty problem but a defective transmission problem.the car has now been at the dealer for 3 months.dealer has not contacted me except once to pick up the vehicle.i, of course, cannot pick up the vehicle as it cannot be driven without a transmission and i don't have $4,000 to pay for a new one.i continue to carry insurance on a car that cannot be driven.additional internet research has revealed that mazda owners all over the country are complaining about these bad transmissions that are burning out prematurely with as little as 25,000 miles on the vehicle.mazda refuses to acknowledge or correct the problem.

Transmission failed first time while making left turn at congested intersection, barely escaped injury.transmission was repaired, failed againg 4 months later; this time apparently electric or electronic problem, unable to repair now going on 4 weeks.

The transmission on my 1995 mazda 626 failed at 78,000 miles and it cost me $2400 to replace.

While driving atcity speed engine started over heating, and thenvehiclecaught on fire.mechanicdid not know what has caused the fire.please provide more information.

I bought a 95 mazda 626 4 cyl automatic transmission in 1998. Not long after i bought the car i had the typical 30/60/90 thousand mile service done. Replaced all belts, hoses, transmission fluid, timing belt, etc. It seemed as there was no warning when the transmission went out. We were driving back from the store and it started slipping between shifting of gears, and then it just locked up and almost caused an accident. I had to tow it in and had the transmission rebuilt. Every internal part was replaced for about $2500.00 i bought the extended three year warranty for it. About six months later my wife was on a trip with her friend and again with no warning the transmission started acting up. She had the car towed to aamco, which is where whe had the transmission rebuilt. The checked it out and found nothing wrong with the car. We got the car back and it seemed to be doing okay. About 6 months before the warranty ran out on the transmission we noticed it started slipping again, but not that bad. We took it in once again and aamco said there was nothing wrong. We have babied this car to make it last. Now about three-four weeks ago we noticed the transmission has started slipping again really bad. This report is two-fold, the first for mazda who has known this is a bad transmission since 1993, and second for aamco who should've looked into the transmission better the last time we brought it in. If you type 1995 mazda transmission into a search engine on the net, you will come up with many opinion sites with people complaining about this transmission. Everybody with a mazda 626 and mx6 from 1993 to 2002. It seems the problem is that the transmission gets too hot. It also seems that mazda knows this, yet they do not tell peoplehow to prevent the problem. In my best knowledge of the problem, if mazda would rebuild all the transmissions, install a transmission cooler, and offer yearly fluid changes, no where near as many people would have this problem.

Transmission failed one night on the way home from work. The o/d light started flashing about 3 months before.

The vehicle was hesitating at acceleration, then the overdrive light started blinking, after which i could not accelerate and basically the vehicle would not move.luckily i was near a service station, which render me assistance and said that the transmission needed to be replaced.

I own a 1995 mazda 626, it has 80,000 miles on it and the o/d off light flases, oil light comes on periodically, it shifts eradically, and it's leaking transmission fluid. My mechanic says i can keep refilling the transmission fluid, but it should only last another 2000 miles. Or i could pay almost the same amount i paid for the car to get a new transmission.

Transmission went out.consumer had transmission rebuilt, back to transmission shop for more work on transmission.

The automatic transmission in my 1995 mazda 626 went out.

Defective transmission replaced due to electrical problems/hard shifting/rough idle.

This transmission has been replaced twice in the last three years and is needing to be replace now as i type this information somethingis truly wrong with this car or the servicer i need some help.

I bought a used mazda 626 (1995) in december 2003 and it had about 85,000 mileswhen i purchased it. Within 6 months of purchasing the vehicle the transmission went bad (the gear teeth broke and the entire transmission had to be tossed). A new transmission was fitted in its place and this cost me about $2,500. A few weeks later i learnt that this was a problem found in many mazda 626 models manufactured in 1995.i mainly use this vehicle to drive to school and do some grocery; hardly do i take it on the interstate or drive at high speeds. After about two years it is still giving me other problems - like engine wont crank and so on. I am disappointed buying this vehicle and will never ever buy a mazda/ford product.

The overdrive light came on and stayed on. Dealer says the vehicle needs new transmission.

Transmission failed! i bought the car 3 months ago from a dealer and the transmission is now finished. Rebuilt the transmission and the day i took it home (i didn't even get 5 miles from the shop ) the same problem occured. Slips in and out of gears at all speeds, od light comes on out of no where. 2000 dollars later i still don't have my car. Thanx mazda.

Transmission jumps out of gear and also hesitates when puttingcar in gear.the consumerhad contacted the dealership and the manufacturer, and they told him there is nothing that they could do for him. Also, vehicle stopped on the interstate on10-02-98.car had to be towed into the dealership. The dealship said that car will be ready tomorrow.

Automatic transmission is failing.it shifts erratically for no reason at 60 mph.the dealership says it is failing and needs to be replaced at a cost of $2,800 for a remanufactured transmission.

Overdrive light flashes, transmission went out twice.

Car can barely get power to go. Transmission began to slip tried to step the car just revev up. Isonly able to 10 mph.

1995 mazda 626 lx around 35 days after i bought this car i knew i was in trouble, after two hours of driving my brother and i were on the side of the road with a smoking car. We ended up having to put in two containers of transmission fluid every 30 minutes. The cars behind us had transmission fluid all over their windshields.i had this car for around a year and a half and have already had the transmission fixed once, and now it's due for another fix. I think this is horrible with the amount of complaints on this particular vehicle and transmission. There needs to be something done about this.

Transmission rebuilt 3 times due to overheating and torque converter failure. This is a well-known problem at transmission rebuild shops for the cd4e transmission built by ford.mr

The overdrive lights is flashing, and the vehicle jerks when the gears are changing. After the vehicle was brought to the dealer, the overdrive light went off. Dealer was not able to determine what caused the problem.in january of 1997, the light came on again and when taken to the dealer, dealer stated that the transmission needed to be replaced.

I purchased 1995 mazda 626 in 1996.soon after drving just over 50,000 miles, my car just not moving on the road.when i put my foot on gas pedal, there was just a big noise.the car was not moving at all. (before that thing happened, i noticed my car had less power, so i had my car tuned up.)i towed my car and the mechanic told me i need a new transmission.so i replaced it.that was nov. 17. 1998.the cost was 1107.75. I thought i had a bad luck.several years later, i found that o/d sign blink all the time.in 2003, second time the transmission was gone.i replace it at the same shop on march 10. 2003. By paying 913.00.in 2004, the transmission was gone again.my mechanic fixed it-not replaced it- but several months later it was gone completely.if i replace the transmission, this will be third time.i have not done yet.and i decide to bring this matter to the law.

Car details: mazda odel 626, year of mfg: 1995, 4 door, auto transmission, no. Of miles (till the date of complaint): 87,410 miles. This is a used car and i bought it in december 2003. The miles on the car when i bought was about 84,500. Problem: 1) events leading to the failure: there was a slip in the car every time the car was started from rest. I showed it to my mechanic and he suggested the problem to be due to new brake pads which i had got changed about two months back.i use the car mainly inside the city and it was working perfectly fine.i drove it only once on the interstate for about 30 minutes (this was on the day of complaint) and while coming on the way i saw that the car was having lot of jerks whenever i slowed down or stopped at any signal. Also the pick up of the car was very poor. The transmission could not pick the power the engine was producing and i had a problem even getting to 30 mph. As soon as i saw this i did not drive any further. The very next day i got my car towed to my mechanic. 2) the failure:the trasmission oil in the car was low, the gear teeth in the transmissionwere broken; the clutch plates were worn out; the left axel had eaten away the sleeve of the transmission on the left side.the worn out metal (of the gear) was supposedly carried over to other parts of the transmission which caused some other gears to get damaged. 3) presently the car and the old transmission both are with my mechanic. I have not taken any decision so far as the cost of rebuilding the transmission is more than the cost of the car itself.

I purchased a 1995 mazda 626 used with 64000 miles oct 1999 the very next daythe transmission had to be replaced.the car hit 120000 and i had to have the transmission replaced again.the transmission is going out again and it has not been but 10 months since the last one.i think the transmissions are faulty made and i have been researching this and hundreds if not thousands of other people have had the same problem.the car also lunges and stalls for no reason.

On two occasions transmissiom was replaced becauseoverdrive light kept blinking. However, problemreoccurred for the third time. Vehicle at an independent repair shop for repairs. Manufacturer notified in writing.

Own 1995mazda 626. Got it used with 50,000 miles. Now has 94,000 miles. Since then i have replaced many sensors, the head gasket, roters twice, and have had the occuring issue of the hold light blinking and the tranny shifting hard. Dealer says nothing wrong with it.

Transmission failure, synonymous with all vehicles of the same model and year.

The car was only 9,000 miles over dealer warranty when the transmission failed, but mazda would not cover any repairs. I have talked to several transmission repair shops and all are familiar with the 626 problem. One guy guessed the year and model of mazda over the phone before i even told him. To me this indicates a problem with this vehicle that needs to be investigated. The car has been in the shop over 5 weeks (in there as i write this). Mazda should have to assume some of the responsiblity. The transmissions were manufactured by ford and ford had a recall on the transmission they put in there 94-95 cars. Perhaps there is a connection.

I was driving home and when i got to a stop sign and was getting ready to turn right, the car jerked forward and felt as if it were in neutral for a second. About 2 weeks later i was on my way home and the same thing happened, only while i was driving in the middle of the road, the car began to rev and jerk around, and all the while, i was slowing down on the busy street. I took it to aamco and they told me the transmission was broken and i would need a new one if i wanted the car to work properly again. I was a bit frustrated at the fact that the model of the car is a '95 and is in need of a new transmission, thank you for your time.

Drivetrain malfunctioned and transmission slips.

Dealership advised that transmission had codes of 628 torque convertor solenoid locked up and code 657 fluid over temp, and that transmisson oil dark in color.need to replace transmission cost of $2650.00. No problems with car other than o/d off light flashing. Car shifted normal.

Defective transmission when purchased.aamco transmission specialist, inc. Rebuilt, defective transmission and stated that ours was one of thousands (7 0f 10 automatic transmissions built in "95 we defective)i would like for mazda american to at least help with the costs that we have incurred.

While driving at 70 mph my transmission began to shift uncontrolled. It downshifted from od to 3rd then to a neutral type of gear. Then shifted back into od. This occured several times.i have replaced the transmission filter and fluid with no help. My car just turned 72000 miles and has been adult highway driven. I have read in several places of others having this same problem. This sound like a common occurance and sound be investigated for defects in this type of transmission.

My transmission has gone out for the 2nd time in 5 years, the o/d light flashes consistently and the gears do not want to shift.the car jerk and hestitates when driving.i cannot believe that mazda has not done a recall on these vehicles. These tranmissions are so dangerous and it seems no one cares. What do we as consumers have to do to get a recall on theses vehicles.

Please look into this.just search mazda 626 transmission from any search engine.you will find hundreds of complaints.mazda needs to do the right thing.they sold a defective product.they know it.and, they will not take responsibility for their defective transmissions.dt

I own a 1995 mazda 626 lx and the transmission has failed.i took it to a dealer and they said, "the 1993-1998 transmissions are all bad due to the lack of a transmission cooler and need to be replaced.i have no idea why mazda hasn't issued a recall yet."this was very upsetting, so i am registering this complaint on behalf of myself and all the other mazda 626 owners that i have read about on web sites and online bulletin boards.if the company won't admit that the ford transmissions are faulty then you need to stand up for all the consumers and force a recall.

Transmission on 1995 mazda 626 acting very strange. Overdrive light was flashing and car shifted very rapidly and hard jarring the whole car. I replaced transmission twice having the same result after short periods of time.*nlm

As a current owner of a 1995 mazda 626 lx, the transmission went out at 41,000 miles.the warranty is for 3 years or 50,000 miles, even though the warranty is out, we request from mazda assistance for payment of repairs.original verbal conversation, mazda customer service agreed to pay for half of repairs.but upon, the second visit with mazda customer service representative, we asked for a second review.in turn, she informed us, mazda could revoke the initial offer of paying for half of the repair.within an hour they revoked the whole initial offer given. And this was to the dealer, not to us, the customer.we were notified by the dealership via phone and upon notifying us the car was repaired and ready to pick up.besides the rudeness of the customer service representative, the length of time (3 days) to get the transmission, revoking completly the original offer of paying half for the repairs.we feel with the many circumstances of transmission failures in your complaint database on 1995 mazda 626 transmissions, mazda would want to have a recall or help reimburse for this ongoing problem.thank you.

While driving this weekend "overdrive off" started blinking on my dash.called service in the city visiting and they said i should have it checked when i return home.i took it in monday evening and was told i need a completely new transmission (2500.00).a salelsman told me they just had someone trade the same model in with the very same problem.....should a transmission fail like that with only 75,000+ miles on it?

Car demonstrates known automatic transmission issues for this make/model/year - o/d light flashing on and off, erratic gear shifting resulting in dangerous operation on the road.

Automatic transmission failure

I purchased a 1995 mazda 626 in november of 1998.the month after a purchased it i started to have transmission problems.took it to the dealer and the problem was fixed.now again i am starting to have transmission problems again. This time i was told that i needed to get a new transmission.i have read that many people have had the same type of problems with their 626.it seems to be a defect.along with the transmission problem their also seems to be a problem with the oxygen sensor i have had to replace 2 already. I think this car is a major pieceof junk and should be taken off the market.ts

Transmission failure, rebuilt; engine fire, car totalled, fire went through fire wall of dash and entered passenger compartment.

Transmission knocks and bangsinto gear.

When at any speed the overdrive light keeps coming on, and the gear shifts very hard, the vehicle jerks/ shakes. Also, there is some type of fuel leakage coming from under the vehicle.

Consumer was traveling about 75mph & overdrive light came on, and vehicle went into overdrive.gear kept up & down. Vehicle was also smoking real badly. Dealer never toldconsumer what caused the problem.3 weeks later, it happened again & the dealer said it just happens thatmazdas are sensitive. Problem causedtransmission to burn out.

This is the second time in 2 years i am going to be getting my transmission rebuilt. I am very disapointed in the ordeal and that by researching i have come accross numerous comlaint site on the web about the forth generation 626 transmition failures. Feel free to email.

Another time of fail is 06/02/99 - 1991.90 and now -06/8/00 the same - no safety defect listed in the summary.

Od loght (over/drive off) light flashes , and car shifts very rough.previous complaint on bulletin boards indicate transmision failure, estimated repairs 2k to 3k dollars.nlm

I am now on my third transmission since i bought my 1996 mazda 626 dx, 4 cyl.the first transmission was under warranty.the second failure was in nov 2005.i took vehicle to non-dealer source.the transmission started acting up again last week.after about 40 miles shifting gets hard after a stop.vehicle will down shift when you take foot off the gas.right now the repair shop is trying to trouble shoot without finding the problem.

While traveling at any rate of speed vehicle over driven, indicator light would flash. Technicianstated thatautomatic transmissionneeded to be replaced. Please provide further information.

I bought this 1995 mazda 626 4 cyl vehicle usedat 79k miles. I recently had the transmission routinely serviced again ata local garage, including yearly fluid change, and within just a few weeks the transmission lost 2nd range and overdrive. Engine overspeeds before shifting from 1st into 3rd.i had taken this car to a parr ford/mazda dealer several times for safety check and oil change, but they never once mentioned the need for an aftermarket oil cooler. But when i took the car back with the tranny problem a few days ago, they tried to sell me a rebuilt tranny for $3500 installed and emphasized that they would not install a rebuilt tranny without adding anaftermarketoil cooler. Never once did parr ford/mazda mention installing an aftermarket transmission oil cooler untilafter the transmission had failed. I consider this an act of gross negligence on their part and feel they owe me a new transmission.

Replaced transmission at 68,000 miles.now at 74,000 miles o/d light is blinking and the car jerks when trying to accelerate to 50 mph on highway.appears to be transmission problem that is extremely common in this make of 95 mazda 626.*la

Numerous problems with 1995 mazda 626, have problems with the transmission, valves knocking, will not stay in alignment, fan belt breakage.the last problem was the automatic transmission problem, the o/d light is flashing and seems not to want to shift.

"o/d off" light is flashing, transmission will not go into overdrive, shifting is jerky.

Transmission failure.

Transmission failed @ 82k miles - o/d display flashes -neutrals from take-off - slips 2nd & 3rd gear.no overdrive. Advised that transmission replacement needed.cannot believe with all the complaints listed on you site that no recall has been initiated.

O/d light flashes while engine runningwithout using o/d, or o/d is off (dot number: n/atiresize: p195/65r14)

My 1995 mazda 626 lx has had its overdrive off light blinking for a month now i have had it checked. It would only blink when the gas would get below a half of a tank. So i had the fuel filter replaced. Then it started to shift gears at random times. I had the usual done, flushed the transmission replaced filter etc. Its a week later my transmission has completely failed. Due to my transmission overheating. I did some research and found that i was not the only one with this same issue and that thousands of people have identical situations. The car has had regular maintenance and has a clear record. Its 11 years old with only 80,000 miles. The drive load has been minimal, no more that 10 miles a day. I shouldn't have to be putting in a new transmission and neither should all these other people.

I heard this is not the first time this has happened to someone with this type of car . It is obviously something that should be recalled . No defect listed.

O2 censor went; quickly followed by a dead transmission. The bottom of the transmission dropped. Replaced - another failed censor and engine light still on.

Mazda corp. Denies knowledge of any problems with transmissions.mazda dealership acknowledges 626's have transmission faults due to radiators being too small and causing transmission to overheat., but denies any responsibility.advised external coolant should be attached after repair.via this website, numerous complaints exist. Does mazda not read this website? customer very dissatisfied with mazda .went out on interstate.independent mechanic also aware of 626's transmission's reputation.mazda has been notified, but says nothing will be done to recall transmissions.to-date this is the 274th complaint filed on this website.when will action be taken;and not the consumer be taken!!!

Automatic transmission would fail to go into reverse. Diagnosis of transmission shop said problem was common for this model and indicating transmission was failing and needed rebuild. Transmission rebuild fixed the problem.

Transmission slips between shifts. It doesn't change to the next gear.

I own a 1995 mazda 626 4cyl, 4dr, automatic.the o/d light started flashing the other day and now my transmission will only shift into gear when it wants to.the car idles well, but while on the road for more than 10 mins (while the engine gets heated up), then the car looses power and jerks trying to get into a gear.after reading the issues online, am pretty sure that the transmission may have to be replaced or at least something fixed in it. Looking for some help...

There was a recallon mazda 626, 1995 for a power train. The manufacturer said it does not pertain my vin#. I have been having major problems with my engine and my motor.please help.

Mazda never said that the computer was bad, they said the transmission needed replacing.this is the fourth car that i know of where this has happened.i feel that mazda should be made to part for part of the damage.my daughter is a college student, and cannot afford this kind of expense, neither can we.this has caused a real hardship, and mazda does not seem to care.they said that the vehicle was out of warranty and that they were not responsible.obviously the transmission for this model of car is faulty.they should have to pay for the repair.

When will the company be made to recall this lemon?!i am selling and will never buy another mazda. No safety defect listed.

My vehicle started with jacking motions and the steeting wheel kept veering.then the vehicle started to reverse even though it was in drive but it was not accelerating at all.vehicle was reversing and not on a hilly area either.i had to shut the vehicle offf complete to stop the motion.i have to tell you, this was very scary.it was a good thing my speed was low.i almost hit someone because the vehicle was reversing insteading of going forward. I later found out the transmission had completely blown out prematurely , the gas pump broken with pieces still inside.i couldn't believe it because my car is just barely five years old.

I bought my 1995mazda 626 in 1999 with 86,000 by 2000 i replaced the transmission. On july 5,2003 my tranmission went out again.

The o/d light on dashboard flashes and transmission shifts erratically causing the vehicle to suddenly accelarate.

The transmission is crap!! and have read various reports of the same issue on the same model of car.

Car does not engage into reverse for for about 5 seconds. The car acts as if in nuetral and rolls freely. When starting from a stop the car does not engage into gear for several seconds. While driving the car feels as if the tranmission is slipping and the engine will increase rpm's even no increase in speed. The car also will shif very hard and jerky between gears as accelerating.

The car is flashing the check engine light intermittedly for the last 2 months and today the o/d light flashed once.last week the car would not go on reverse or in drive and then did it very "hard".today, when idle it would not shift to first gear for about 3 seconds and then shift hard and drive normally.

I currently have approx. 112,000 miles on my car. I do not drive it a whole lot but during a trip from maryland to florida, my transmission started to go up. The o/d light started flashing, the rpm and mileage needle was going wacky and the car would barely drive. The mileage needle would say that i was doing 0 mph when in fact i was driving at 20 mph. I had to drive on gear 1 or 2 half the way back. There was also this burnt smell coming from the transmission oil. Which scared me because i thought the car was surely going to catch on fire since i was only in virginia (again, final destination florida) now i take care of my car, i had just had the transmission fluid flushed two months before. Prior to this incident, during daily operation, whenever i would shift gears on my car, the response was always delayed about 1 second and a half, which i have been told are clear signs of impeding transmission failure. I also found out from several other mazda 626 owners that these mazda vehicles are well known for transmissions failures. Due to the fact of poor ventilation for the trans, this causes too much heat that leads to trans. Failure. I feel that this is the manufacturers fault for letting a faulty engineer as this one go to the market. What if someone gets hurt? no i have to front the bill for a transmission that was doomed to fail and i do not think that is right. Mazda should pay, not me.

I own a 1995 mazda 626 - and every now and then the "od off" light will flash continuously for months....i have changed the belts, water pumps, fan belts, transmission fluid gaskets and even the battery three times. Recently the dealer advised me to change the transmission since it was leaking to the point of no repair. We changed the transmission and after two days of driving the car jerks when taking off, the od off light is flashing again, and the it appears to be overheating - but the dealer says there is no problem with the radiator. This has been going on forever with the mazda - how many times can one change parts about every six months?...mazda should have recalled this model years ago - there is a fault in its transmission or computer system.

I brought a used mazda 626 5 months ago.i have had two transmissions put into it and it is now sitting on the side of the road again.first the o/d light would start blinking and i would lose gears.then all of the gears would just completely go.my car also shakes while idling.and the brakes are about to go out.they catch and go.

Automatic transmission does not have power while in drive.in order to make vehicle accelerate, she has to shift into drive-2.dealership has examinedvehicle, and determined that transmission needed to be replaced.consumer ended up paying 1391 dollars for a remanufactured transmission.

Although no injury or accident occurred, my wife was stranded in traffic and had to get help to remove it from traffic. This is not an isolated event with the mazda 626 transmision.

Madza 626 95 o/d off and car skaking all the time when i am driving the car.transmission problem!!!

Mechanic stated that the thrust bearing disintegrated.this was due to torque on the axle at the point in comes in contact with the truste bearing.the torque on the axle was due to a faulty transmission mount which allow the transmission to moved when making turns.

Trnasmission shuts up/down consistently out of control when driving up on slope, and bang and bang.

I wish i could back up the time and return this car to the dealer i've purchased it from, the transmission in this car sucks big time.and i want my money or a free repair from mazda.

Transmission experiences harsh engagement.

Transmission began to fail at approx. 60,000 miles. Problem wasn't diagnosed until about 85000 miles.had transmission overhauled.now, 15000 miles later, transmission failing again.this is a common problem among owners of this model car.mazda is aware of the problem but refuses to take responsibility for the faulty transmissions they put in these models of mazdas.car can be a safety hazard because it stalls out often and has a difficult time shifting gears while driving.

Repeated replacement of transmission within a period of 1 year.

The o/d light would flash when the car was driven for about hour and half at high speed.

The transmission failed.*dt

This seems to be a common problem with the 1995 mazda 626.my transmission started to slip and at the same time my overdrive light would come on.gradually the transmission failed and needed to be rebuilt.

Faulty transmission at 5,000 miles which the dealer replaced.the car now has 109,000 miles and the transmission needed to be replaced again. Transmission had harsh engagement.

This is the second transmission failure within three months/3,000 miles! this transmission was under warranty, but the inconvenience of being 8 hours from home, moving our daughter and grandson, the mazda was packed full, along with a caravan of a moving truck and our daughter's car.this was not the time for transmission failure!we had just learned mazda would not reconsider paying for the first transmission replacement with only 42450 miles.now, within 3 months, the transmission had failed again.we hope this time mazda will stand behind their products and also re-imburse us for the first transmission failure and the expenses incurred from failure.i had to drive on the edge of a very busy street in ft. Collins,co, waving traffic to cautiously proceed around me, hoping to catch up with the family members who were already out of my sight, but i had no avenue to turn off this busy street!thankful, no other drivers or passengers were involved in rear ending me-i was traveling at a snails crawl-or with the traffic going around me, didn't run into oncoming traffic.my previous odi # is 709937 submitted on 8/12/99

Consumer states that while driving the over drive light came on , vehicle was shifiting hard, and when it goes into fourth gear their will be a griding noise. The transmission had blown. Had transmission replace. Problem reaccured.ts

Overdrive light flashes as first symptom. Next, the car will hesitate at gear changes. The car will then buck hard at these gear changes. The transmission will eventually fail, according to the dealer. They believe there will be additional notice. No codes are present within the system. No field service bulletins have been issued, according to dealers (more than one that i've discussed it with) while mazda corporate says they have issued field service bulletins, but will not release information to the public. The dealer's solution is to replace the equipment at $2,300. This is a known problem among dealers and owners, and widely discussed on the internet, from my research. The service advisor at the dealer says they replace transmissions frequently on these models years 93-97. Mazda will not acknowledge. There is no service book available for purchase and the owner's manual does not address the problem in its troubleshooting section, nor does it include any maintenance tips for the transmission. Please contact me for websites that i have found pertaining to this specific problem.

Transmission failure around 1999.transmission was rebuilt ($2300).had to take the vehicle back to the shop several times.transmission went completely out in may 2003. Transmission was replaced in june 2004 ($1700).i have a friend who had the same make and model vehicle, she had never ending transmission problems.eventually she traded the car in because it was costing her more to repair the vehicle than the worth of the vehicle.

The od off light began flashing in march or april of this year took it to the dealership i purchased it from, was told then that it was a bearing within the transmission that just wasnt moving they moved electronically and the light went out then approximately two weeks ago the overdrive off light began flashing again, i took it in and they say it is thr torque converter and probably a bushing inside the transmission that is causing a major vibration. My 1995 mazda 626 has just over 77,000 miles on it and has the same transmission as the 94 which is known for its problems and by all reports most of those problems were not fixed until 96 now i am facing a secondary warranty company who may or may not approve my claim, my car occasionall stalls when i push the gas etc, many similar problems you can read on the web with this same car.if the warranty i purchased just for things like this does not cover this i am stuck with a bill i cannot afford, for a problem that is well known and well reported. This is a mazda and for issue and should be resolved by them...it is not safe to have these cars on the road. My car is currently at bay ford in portorchard washington. Why should a car need a new transmission with such low mileage. Thank you for your time.

I have a 95 mazda 626 and the transmission has failed twice.the o/d light continues to blink.mechanics say that they cannot find anything wrong with the car.i have had to replace almost every sensor, but to no avail the tranny is still acting up.there should be a recall on these transmissions. 1995 mazda 626 4 cylinder automatic transmission with overdrive (cd4e/la4a-el) has catastrophically failed with no abuse on the part of the owner/driver.research since then shows that this is a very common problem and mazda will not repair or admit the problem exists.

Automatic transmission is faulty, it is a ford transmission.the dealers acknowledge the problem and are aware that it is faulty, however, refused to replace. When you replace the transmission you are replacing it with another faulty transmission lemon and scheme, how could they get away with this? *la

I purchased this vehicle 5 weeks ago from a small car dealer and two weeks after the purchase the transmission began slipping.i took the car to tim marburger mazda in concord, nc to have them place it on the computer to be certain the problem was with the transmission, which it was.they said that the transmission had overheated and that i would need a new transmission at a cost of $2835.00.in doing research through telephone and the internet, i discovered that the transmission has been a problem for this make and model of car.in fact, while i was at the mazda dealership, a customer who was waiting told me she had to have a new transmission in the same make and model of vehicle.i pulled up the website, www.dustbury.com/626/trans.html and discovered that mazda had an informal recall on the '94 626's due to transmission problems.i have a car that i haven't even made the first payment on that needs major repair and i feel that with the multiple problems with this transmission, mazda should bear some of the responsibility.

Have a flashing o/d off light and i am now told that i will have to replace the transmission. Reading a lot of other stories on line apparently this is more common than not in my year, make and model. This should be recalled

The contact owns a 1995 mazda 626.while at a bank drive-thru window, the transmission suddenly stopped working.the contact attempted to depress the accelerator pedal, which caused the engine to rev; however, the vehicle did not accelerate.the vehicle was towed to her residence and then to a repair shop.the contact was informed that the failure was due to the transmission.she wanted a second opinion so the vehicle was towed to a different mechanic.the failure was confirmed to be the transmission.through research, the contact discovered that numerous people with the same type of vehicle experienced transmission failure.the vehicle is currently at a repair shop, but has not been repaired.the vin was unknown.the current and failure mileages were 177,000.

I was driving my 1995 mazda 626 to work on 08/05/2004 and about a mile from work, my o/d off light started blinking.once i got to work, i turned the car off and it started doing it again.i called a mazda dealership and they told me that it was probably my transmission and it might need to be replaced.i then went on cartrackers.com and found out that this was a common problem with most mazda 626's.i cannot afford to replace the transmission and surely cannot afford to make a payment on a new vehicle.please make mazda correct their problem!!!

I own a 1995 mazda 626 and was made aware that it has documented transmission problems.i was not aware of the problem when i bought the vehicle.the o/d lights constantly blinks on and the car jerks and shakes at stops.i was told the transmission has to be replaced and did some research as a result.many other owners of this model and year vehicle have changed the transmission at least twice.it turns out the transmission built by ford was known to have problems, and mazda should take some responsibility for this.

We bought a 1995626 mazda from a local dealer and right away we began to have problems with the transmission, i called a mazda dealership and they stated that the transmissions in these cars burn up very easy due to a design flawin the transmission cooling system, there are a lot of complaints concerning these cars to the best of my understandingthe mazda corp. Will not acknowledge that there is a problem. Any help you can offer will be greatly appreciated thank you.

This is my second replacement of the transmission in 4 years. The mazda transmissions are defective and need to be recalled.

Mazda 626 transmission failed twice in 2004 and 2006.

The transmission failed in early november with no warning.it was replaced at an authorized mazda dealer, about two weeks later the transmission failed again.it felt like i was driving on gravely ground the front end was shaking violently.the transmission was replaced again by the mazda dealer and the service rep said that the failure was due to a faulty transmission.now the vehicle presently needs the transmission replaced again.when i shift from reverse or park to drive it jerks violently into gear, then it hesitates to accelerate.when it finally does accelerate it jerks off into gear.the o/d light continuously flashes.

Transmission warning light illuminated, indicating malfunction within the system. Afterwards, the transmission experienced a problem shifting gears. Dealer states that the entire transmission has to be replaced.please give any further details.

The transmission is a poor product.after the first failure i have returned 6 previous times to get it repaired again.ford/mazda should stand by their poor workmanship and there should be a recall.this is not an isolated incident.

Car has trouble changing into higher gears, engine revs up beyond 4000 rpm.no indicator lights come on and no codes registered.car cannot keep up with traffic when this occurs, endangering passengers and other drivers.trouble is intermittent, coming and going during the same drive.car currently sitting in shop waiting on ideas for what exactly to fix.

Vehicle will not go into overdrive, which caused transmission to wear outand vehicle to die out. Dealer has not seen vehicle.

Erroneous transmission in a 1995 mazda 626.

I had already replaced transmission once in 1998, and now again in september it failed again, and the cd4e transmission in this vehicle has a very bad reputation.. The only warranty i got for the first replacement was 12 months...i am tired of replacing the transmission, and the car is only 5 years old, this is getting ridiculous.. Mazda/ford should've recalled this transmission a long time ago... I believe i have spent more on the transmission than what the car is worth.... Thank you for you attention.

I am wrting to complain about the mazda 626. I believe there should be a recall put out on the transmission on these cars. The transmission in my car went bad at 75,000 miles. Mazda will do nothing to fix the problem although thousands of people are experiencing the same problems.

Vehicle transmission issues. Shakes violently while idling in drive. O/d off light flashing will not gooff. Gear slips.

I am experiencing the infamous mazda 626 transmissioin failure which is an extreme hazard for myselt and my children.the o/d light blinks and as evidenced by the thousands of complaints i found on the web, the transmission is experiencing a meltdown.i was driving my two young children to school when the transmission caused the car to jerk uncontrollably and stop.this in my view has the potential of a catastrophic accident.the design flaw is obvious after reading so many similar accounts.

Transmission has gone out and needs replacement at barely over 50,000 miles.this could pose a serious safety risk, considering that it could go out on the freeway or anywhere while the vehicle is in motion.there are many people who have this same problem and same complaint, mazda knows there is a defect, and they refuse to fix the defect, opting to wait until the customer is out of warranty and making them absorb a portion of the charges.also,i have had 2 accidents in my car one where i was rear ended while in a stopped position and neither airbag was deployed.

Dt:this mazda is on 3rd transmission and this one has gone bad. Dealer is not willing to do anything since its not under warranty. Contacted manufacturer, they said nothing they can do. This started onaugust 19, 2005. When at a stop the vehicle was in drive tried to accelerate andit would not do anything for a few seconds then it would surge forward. Then , when at a stop the vehicle would vibrate violently and the driver had quit all together.

1995 mazda 626 lx .~ 94,000 miles.automatic transmission failure (cd4e ford automatic transmission)

I had the transmission replaced on my 1995 used mazda a few months after i purchased the car.even after the repairs, the o/d indicator light still flashes continuously, and the engine light comes on during/ after acceleration.my decision not to replace the transmission a second time was cemented after reading all the consumer complaints.i like the car, but i am almost certain the transmission is on its way to burning up again.it sure would be nice if mazda would remit to me the $2300.00 i sunk in transmission repairs.i could use the money as a downpayment on a non-mazda car.

I own a 1995, mazda, 626, 4 cylinder, automatic, lx model car.purchased the car in 1996 with 15000 miles on it and started having transmission trouble @ about 40000 miles.contact mazda and had dealer look at the car before the warranty expired due to un-normal transmission activity and the end results were the car/transmission was ok.continued to drive car and problem got worst.(erratic shifting, blinking od light, jumping in and out of gear at any known time) the transmission eventually went out on the road.luckily nobody was hurt.that transmission was changed out (expenses paid by me the owner, the car was out of commission for about 10 days) and replaced with a second transmission not knowing there was any known transmission trouble from/withmazda or ford.the same sequence of events start happening with the second transmission; even down the transmission going out on the road (and still lucky it did not go out in the middle of an busy intersection with lots of traffic/ long distance trucks coming). In both situations the fluid was changed and the warranty had just expired giving no help.

1995 mazda 626.the transmission went out at about 103,000 miles.after driving for extended periods (45 minutes to 1 hour), the car began to chug when taking off from a start.began to have problems going into gear when engine was cold.transmission needed to be rebuilt. *la

My transmission has gone out, then it blew a seal and now it is starting over again just several months later.o/d light flashes constantly and it jerks when it shifts.

1995 mazda 626 at 97,000 miles: the transmission began to slip back and forth between upper gears.after pulling off and verifying fluid levels, the car drove well for 4 miles, began slipping again and finally dropped out of all gears.then it seemed to be in neutral no matter what gear was selected.after a tow to a trasmission shop, i was told that a transmission rebuild was required @ $2,000.there should be many more miles left in this car without requiring a $2,000 investment!after reading many similar slories, i believe mazda should take responsibility for this defect!

Vehicle accellerated slowly whenconsumerturned on the air conditioner. Vehicle has automatic transmission, andvehicle isn't shifting properly from drive to reverse.

I owned a 1995 mazda 626 that had repeated transmission problems. Started at 70,000 miles. Mazda has been informed but has done nothing.

Speedometer was not working properly. When driving speedometer will go back to zero.gauges on dash will start to act erractically. Vehicle stayed in third gear. Also, had to stop vehicle and let it sit, and then start vehicle back up, and everything acted normally.contacted dealer, and dealer stated could not fix problem. Contacted mazda, and mazda indicated that there was recall 99i005000 on 1994 model.

Car shifting hard, transmission went out today.

Transmission failure.

Transmission slips out of gear/downshifts inappropriately, without warning. Problem is intermittent. Dealership is at a loss.

Transmission failed without warning. This seems to be a pervastive, recurring problem in 94-97 mazdas and should be covered under a recall.

O/d off light flashes constantly engine light goes on and off.dt

Transmission failed.jerky or no reaction when placing into gear.the car, while in an intersection, acted like it was out of gear.then, suddenly, it jerked into gear.the transmission seemed like it regained normalcy when i slowed down and it seemed to disengage from the engine.i coasted to a stop.the vehicle is a 1995 mazda 626 andhas86588 miles.

There were no symptoms prior to transmission failure.transmission fluid changed at manufacturer's recommended intervals.$2,100 repair required.

Transmission shuttering through shifting, o/d light flashes check engine light goes on when shifting to higher rpms. Transmission is about to crap outi've heard of these problems leading up to aprox $2,000 in every single one of these vehicles.

O/d light flashed while driving, car slips gears, dealer flushed system but problem still occurs.car is less than 4 years old.

'95 mazda 626, automatic transmission failures. @30,000 miles, anty)@65,000 miles, (warranty - i paid for labor)and @78,000 miles.mazda/ford is aware of the issue and continues to accept zero responsibility.

I have a 1995 mazda 626 lx, while driving on the interstate my speedometer stopped working, the o/d off light started blinking and my transmission would not go past 2nd gear. These are the symptons of the recall on the 1994 mazda 626, but there is no recall on the 1995.

My 1995 mazda 626 has gone through atleast 5 transmissions, now needs #6. I am not going to put another $3,300 into the car. A bank teller suggested i try to report the vehicle as a "lemon" since no vehicle should need a new transmission every other year!

Transmission is slipping.attempted to have original dealer pay off balance of loan in support of purchase of new car.value is now only $2000 (paid $12995 12/98) because of transmission failure.balise mazda operation recognized that there is a failure with 1995 4 cylinder transmissions.internet research suggests longstanding problems with mid 1990 4 cylinder mazda 626.am now stuck with a lemon and $2500 bill on car with only 58,000 miles.

When driving consumer noticed transmission light was illuminated on the dash, there was loss of acceleration. Consumer contacted the dealer, dealer linked the problem to transmission. Please provide any furtherdetails.

While stopping consumer could not move the pawl from park to drive or to any other possition.when starting the vehicle the driver is unable to shift from park to any other gear for the past 6 months.the dealer states the problem is caused by bad solenoid.

While driving 45 mph vehicle jerked forward. Thenvehicle stalled. Dealerships mechanic was notified, but did not resolve the problem.

My 1995 mazda 626 has major transmission failure.after i got it fixed, it still had the same problem but i crashed before i had a chance to take it back and use the warranty. I have heard that this is a major problem with many 626 mazdas made between 95' and 00'.

Overdrive light comes on and vehicle changes gears on its own, either going up a hill or standing at a light.

1. First time my transmission gave out i was in the middle of a busy intersection and when i pressed the gas peddle the rpm went way up but the car did not move. I tried not to panic as oncoming traffic came right at me. Before i knew it, the intersection was gridlocked and horns were honking everywhere. I was almost hit and would have been injured. Finally, with the help of others the car was pushed to the side of the road and towed away. The final bill costing 2,300.00$. Recently, in a parking lot, after shifting into reverse and pushing the gas peddle, the car shot forward (still in drive). Luckily there were no people in front of me but i almost hit a car. I looked at the console and saw the gear was in drive even though my shifter was in reverse. The shifting mount is unhitched and the transmission needs to be replaced again!!!! this is a complete hazard and i have narrowly escaped collision and injury for a second time.2) failure is to breakdown in busy intersections and almost hitting a car in a parking lot. 3) transmission replaced using old parts and now the second time i'm not sure what is going to be done.

Why wasn't there a recall on mazda transmissions?how does the consumer initiate a recall when a problem is found?

Car was driven undere normal conditions, doesn't seems the transmission should fail in less than 4 years.

While driving at high speeds and without warning, the vehicleswitched to a lower gear.the dealer was notified.*qpthe transmission had been changed twice before by the previous owners per mechanic. *scc

1995 mazda 626 lx.purchased in 1/2007 with 148,000 miles.in 5/2007 the trans went out.the o/d light started flashing and it wouldn't go into overdrive.the fluid smelled burned.had a used one put in.then i was told that the cd4e transmissions were notorious for failure just wasn't told why.4/2008 trans went out again.had a rebuild trans put in.drove it for 1-1/2 hours then didn't want to go into rev and wouldn't go out of 2nd gear.just found out it is in need of an aftermarket cooler and an epc solenoid. After doing some research online i have found out this is very common problem.this is mazda fault for using a ford trans.mazda should be held responsible.they should be held accountable.i would never own another mazda or ford product!

Transmission is going out for 2nd time. First rebuilt at 114k000 now at 119k000, need another transmission. A transmission should not fail after 5,000 miles.

The o/d on light keeps blinking. The car changes out very hard. I am afraid to drive it.

Mazda 626 /95, automatic transmission, general failure , gear malfuction.

Failure of cd4e transmission on mazda 626.dealer standard procedure is to replace entire transmission costing $2500 - $3000.i understand that this transmission has frequent failures and would like to have a recall issued or something to hold manufacturer liable for replacement costs.

I own a 1995 mazda 626 lx (4 cyl w/ automatic transmission).everytime i drive the car, the overdrive light flashes and the car shakes.it appears that something is wrong with the transmission.when i am driving, very often i cannot accelerate the car even though i am stepping on the accelerator.instead of accelerating, the rpm just rev up (like the transmission is in neutral and you step on the accelerator although the transmission is in drive).i have been noticing this for over a year now.

My 1995 mazda 626 had transmission failure with only 79k miles on engine.now, barely 2 years later and with only 100,200 miles, the transmission has failed again and an estimated cost of $2,000!

Transmission shuts up/down consistently out of control when driving up on a slope

My 1995 mazda 626 es transmission failed at 99,000 miles.

1995 mazda 626 transmission: i have 1995 mazda 626 but it tends to have a transmission break down with over drive sensor going bad at 75000. The transmission was rebuilt with certified technician, but it went out again at 130000. I searched the internet and i wasn't the only one who had a transmission problem.

Transmision falure 1995 mazda 626.

Transmission failure at less then 35,000 miles.again transmission is beginning to fail at 160,000 miles.

While driving down the interstate, the transmission began to jerk and the cars rpm's would shoot up without the car accelerating. I had to slow the car to 20 mph to be able to safely get it off the interstate but the car still jerked violently.

O/d light began to flash and transmission is shifting very hard.i am in the military, and stationed overseas.i have contacted dealerships and have received no help at all.

Consumeris having trouble with her transmission.a mechanictold that her transmission is going, and that she needs a new one. Ph

This transmission is fix three times and it always fail.dt

This issecond transmission i have had to replace in less than two years. I am apalled that mazda thinks this is normal!

When drivng or accelerating, the engine seems to hang in 'gear'.i have to let go of the gas and re-apply the gas and it kicks into the next gear, but even then, it feels like it is accelerating very slowly.i did not know where else to send a complaint about this.i do live in canada, so you can email me at the address that i gave to maybe give me some tips or suggestions on what to do...thank-you.

The vehicle was purchased used in 1998.shifting always seemed a problem.ten months after the purchase, the vehicle started hesitating at high speeds.the fuel system was checked a numberof times and it was later determined that it was a transmission problem.while the dealer was test driving the vehicle, the vehicle was involved in an accident.the transmission was replaced.it lasted about one month and the replaced transmission was replaced with the current transmission which is the third one in this automobile.two months later, a hesitation was noted at low speeds when the gas tank was below half full and taking a left turn.the car is currently having the fuel pump and sending unit replaced.

1st transmission went out at 64000 miles and 2nd at 12100 miles. Mazda was contacted but refused to assist. The last breakdown could have been bad. My wife was traveling on an interstate that was under construction when the tranny failed. She was able to get the car off the road out of immediate danger. She contacted me and i went to her aid.i have discovered that this is a common problem with this vehicle and believe it to be a hazard. Please help and get mazda to recall this inferior product. Thank you very much!!!

Dt:there is a problem is with the automatic transmission.it has been going on since ar may2005.the vehicle has been shifting hard.it has started shaking.the transmission has went out twice since he purchased the vehicle.the second time was on october 5, 2005. After the first time it failed had it replaced.but the problem recurred. The replacement transmission failed also.there have been no accidents.

Tramission problem with madza626

I got a 95 mazda 626 in this feb, now it is 67,000 miles.last night, i had the o/d off light flashingon, and a crappy jerk during accelration. '!@#$%, it seems the tranny is going out.

The cause of this problem was an internal gasket defect for which there is a

This car is a night mare i have never been so unhappy with a car so much in my life i will have to take this to the media because there is nothing being done i feel as thought i am spending my money for nothing . I havent been able to enjoy this car since i bought i am still paying for it - the overdrive light starts blinking, and the car loses power and shutsdown - this is my thrid time having to fix this car mazda is a rip off.

The transmission needs to be rebuilt.

My daughter is using the mazda 626, 1995 year while going to college.she called me and told me the car o/d light was flashing.the next day she got into the car and put it in r.the car would not go in reverse.she put it in d and the car would not go forward.the transmission shop is looking at it right now and told me that it might have to be rebuilt.i look up on the internet and saw how many people have the same complaint.i was told that the mazda used a ford transmission and it was always breaking down.i just purchased the car 8 months ago as a used car and am spending to have the transmission rebuilt.very unhappy with mazda.

Tranmission failure,, just driving along and the car,1995 mazda 626,began to slow down and stopped all together.had to have it rebuilt costing over $1900.00 including labor ,rebuilding kit and additional hard parts.

Transmission began to make a hard shiift and leak oil.dealer indicated that the transmission burned out and recommended replacing it.

Transmission failed.

Less than a year ago, i purchased a 1995 mazda 626 lx from a friend.my friend had informed me that the car had a new transmission, etc.. So i decided to purchase the car since it did not seem that much else could go wrong with it besides maintenance.shortly after i bought the car, the o/d off light began to flash.nothing seemed to be wrong with the car, though so i continued to drive it.my friend said that he had taken it back to the place that had repaired the transmission and they could find no reason why that light occassionaly came on.the last time the light came on, the car began to shift repeatedly from 3rd to 4th gear and would remain in neither gear.it has now been a month and i am still trying to figure out what is wrong with the car.everyone i have consulted has either refused to work on that car or have run me around to the point that i now have a long list of possible problems but no clear answers.i began to research on my own recently over the internet and found that i am not the only one that has had problems with the transmission of this year and make of car.it was suggested that i issue a complaint and so here i am.the transmission is less than two years old and yet, something has gone wrong again.of course, there is no longer a warranty on it and i find it rather odd that so many mechanics, even the dealtership itself, does not want to help out with the repairs to this transmission.

Electronic overdrive failed.

I own a 1995 mazda 626 and the transmission is about to break. It has 120,000 miles on it, i know its a lot but still the transmissions in my other cars lasted to almost 200,000 miles.mazda should be held responsible for this design defect and i should not. I heard of other owners having the exact same problem. Something needs to be done and right now!

Vehicle cuts off at any speed or slowing to stop.vehicle hesistates as a warning before stalling. Overdrive light andengine check lightilluminated on dashboard. Twice, vehicle was diagnosed with a negative response.dealer was aware.intermittent problem is progressing. Please provide more information.

1) car constantly shaking when stopped, while in gears2) transmission failure3) transmission replacement.

The transmission on my 1995 mazda 626 died after approx 75k miles. There are no replacements anywhere in the country. I will have to have the current transmission rebuilt for approx $3k or sell the vehicle for parts. That is ridiculous for such a low-mileage vehicle to be in such a situation. Researching the issue online i see this is a very common problem for the 1995 mazda 626. I see mention of the transmission possibly requiring a transmission cooler, suggesting that the failure occurs because the fluid overheats. Not sure if that is the case, but clearly something in the design has resulted in an unreasonably short lifespan for the tranny. It is not reasonable for the consumer to take this on the chin. Mazda needs to be held accountable and bear at least some of the pain their flawed design has caused. Please contact me for additional details as needed. Thank you for your consideration.

While driving about any mph transmission will start losing power and jerking. Consumer has to drive off the road to control vehicle. Also, vehicle had to be towed to mechanic. *jg

Ovrdirve light flashes and car will no shift gears smoothly.have learned that mazda has a history of transmission problems but will not do anything about is.cars have failed on the highway with a possibility of injuries.

Transmission will not shift into drive 1st/2nd, or 3rd gears. Please provide additional information.

Overdrive light for transmission came on repeatedly, shiftlock would not allow me to shift transmission without first inserting ignition key in shift lock and placing transmission in neutral...driving on expressway car start losing power like downshifting with manual transmission then stops need new transmission! problem stated at 67,0000...car transmission completely goes at 91,000.*la

I just recently purchased a used 95 mazda 626. After two days of having the vehicle the o/d light will flash off and on and will shift very hard from first gear to second. I have now taken it to 3 different mechanics at my own expense and have been told several different answers. I am now looking at either having a new transmission put into the car or just replacing the solenoids that could be causing the light to go off and on. A total cost of around $2300,not to mention i am still making payments on the car. The car is scheduled to start repairs on monday. Only having the car for 4 days and am experiencing all these problems, this car has been my worst nightmare!.

This is the second transmission that was put in this car in 2 yaers the overdrive light blinks and it wont change to 3rd gearandd hesatant in first gear $thats $2000 every year for a transmission?where's the recall is that with all the mazda 626s why dont the government do something??? i for one is scared it get the darn thing fixed again why do the manufacturer insist on selling these faulty transmissions?? help the consumer please!!!the little people??

The planetary gear has shredded and caused copper shavings to go into the casing and strip the transmission gears.totally undrivable.

Overdrive light illuminated, indicating a malfunction within the transmission. Transmission has been replaced three times with no correction to the problem.dealer cannot identify the problem. The consumer stated that the intial problem was the od light was blinking, when the light blinked the vehicle would jerk and shift very hard. Also, while driving at speeds of 60 mph or more the vehicle would not shift into gear.

Automatic transmission slipped little by little then making a left turn on to interstate ramp, transmission completely goes out and leaves me coasting in front of on-coming traffic for about 7 seconds. Now car does that about everyday and has put me in some sticky situations.was told my dealer that new transmission was needed.

Failure of transmission for mazda 626.

1995 mazda 626 with approximately 102,000 miles.transmission failed to engage just after exiting from the highway, requiring a complete new transmission.transmission mechanic voiced that mazda used ford transmissions in this model year and that these have been prone to early failure.

While drivingtransmission went out, causing the fluid to spill onto the radiator which caused the vehicle to smoke. Dealer said vehicle needs new radiator and trasmission.

I have a '95 mazda 626 2.0l autotrans, it drives fine in town and for short periods but since i live in a rural area most shopping is done and hour from home. On such trips, my car will begin to shift hard and the o/d off light will start flashing. I've talked to the mazda dealership and they said its a typical mazda problem and to unhook the neg battery cable, wait 3 minutes then reconnect and the light will be off. This works but i shouldn't have to reset the computer every time i drive my car for an hour. I've also done lots of internet research and it appears this is a very common problem caused by the transmission overheating and eventually burning up. I've found mazda tsb #0500502 published may 21, 2002 that shows mazda is aware of the said problem and also knows how to correct this issue, so why is it the consumers responsibility to install the atf cooler kit when madza admits the transmission needs this part to run effectively for long term vehicle use?? mazda should be picking up the tab by either replacing the tranny with one that works properly or install the cooler kit themselves!!

Transmisson fluid bypassed the torque converter seal , sucking air with the fluid.fluid and clutch pack burned, causing the transmission togo.the dealer has replaced the transmission two times prior to this incident.

Double parked in the street, then attemptedto shift transmission into drive, and it didn't go into drive.hasn't contacted dealer or manufacturer.

Electronic transmission causes vehicle to shift gears on its own, this causes vehicle to shift into overdrive on its own ,and sometimes gears won't shift at all, causing vehicle not to move into drive. Dealer has been contacted.

When putting the parking pawl in parking and applying the parking brake, then she came out of vehicle. Consumer had heard a noise, and vehicle started rolling backwards down the hill, and striking three vehicle behind.according to consumer, she did not know what caused the vehicle to roll backwards.dealer and manufacturer were contacted.

While stopping consumer could not move the pawl from park to drive or to any other possition.when starting the vehicle the driver is unable to shift from park to any other gear for the past 6 months.the dealer states the problem is caused by bad solenoid.

Dealership advised that transmission had codes of 628 torque convertor solenoid locked up and code 657 fluid over temp, and that transmisson oil dark in color.need to replace transmission cost of $2650.00. No problems with car other than o/d off light flashing. Car shifted normal.

Transmission failed with no warning while pulling into traffic, near miss, car had to be pushed from road and towed.this is the second time this transmission has failed both at 60 to 70 k miles!!!this is a product design defect and a safety defect.

Flashing od light at 68800mi, transmision began slamming into gear.codes indicated bad torque converter, dealer service would not rebuild due to burnt transmision fluid.replacement cost $2100. Waranty only 10000/90days. Aamco rebuilt transmision for $1750.50000/3yr waranty. Another torque converter failure with only 2000 miles, hmmm. Third failure due to a faulty locking ring.1000 miles with no failures so far.

While drivingat 75mph heard noise and smoke comingfrom under hood. As a result bushing in transaxle thatwent intotransmission wore out and came loose.

I purchased a mazda 626 from auto service company in 1998.at the time of purchase the car had 40865 miles on it.in octof 1999 the vehicle had a bad cv axle the car was taken to rader mazda and the axle had been replaced.nov of 1999 i was driving and i noticed that the car kept idling higher, but wasn't going any faster, i stopped at a red light and when the light turned green the car would not go forward.the car was taken to rader mazda in augusta ga, the service representative told me that a bearing in the transmission had slipped and that the transmission had to be replaced, because they did not rebuild transmissions.i picked up the car from rader mazda two weeks later i was on my way to ny for thanksgiving and the transmission malfunctioned again.rader mazda put another transmission in the automobile.a few weeks ago, the cv joint on the driver side had gone bad the car was taken to universal auto repair the joint was replaced and now the transmission is malfunctioning again.i was informed by the service technician that the car needed another transmission.the warranty from the first 2 repairs expired after 12 months or 12,000 miles.auto service company sold me a lemon, which was a rental car and they didn't mention one time that the car was purchased from a rental car company.had i know that i would have never bought the car.

This is a big problem when tending to baby seats fastened in the back., behind you. You lean in to help baby, and wham the chair falls into a full recline. This happens with both seats, and even with very lightweight adults. Should someone be driving when they lean, it could mean a massive safety hazard. To make this clearer, if you sit in the passenger seat (both seats are effected, but for explainations sake, we'll use the passenger side), then turn toward the center back seat of the car, your shoulder rests against the inside left side of the seat, pushing a little to the inside. When steady pressure is applied, as you help the child, suddenly, it drops you backwards into a full recline. It sounds like the latch is trying to catch as it falls-- kind of like a kid running with a stick against a plastic picket fence. Hope this helps.btw, in testing it, you might do well to have a person lean as if turning to reach into the seat behind the seat they are sitting in.it is steady unbalanced pressure that collapses it, not sudden impact.

Drivers seat frame twisted.

Headrest keeps jumping up, resulting in poor visibility, dealer can not find the problem.

Front passenger's seat has totally reclined several times while my husband was sitting in it and i was driving (about 50mph).this problem can cause back injuries, would be a problem in a crash, and i cannot put my child's safety seat in this car until i pay for a $377 part (a nut) to get it fixed.

/stabilizer/ sway bar links on my 1995 mazda 626 broke while driving on the freeway this week.they caused the stabilizer bar to drop down and drag on to the road which was extremely busy.i had to abrubtly slow down, pull over and stop my car which could have caused an accident since i was driving between 60-65 miles per hour.the dealer in my area charges $61.80 to purchase the links for each side since the production date of the car is before 9/13/95.if the production date was after this date, i would be charged $29.30.since i was able to apply a $10.00 dealer coupon, the parts cost me $55.24 each totaling 117.92 with tax.also, the dealer quoted a &75.00 labor charge to repair each side which would have cost me $150.00 for labor and total repair of $267.92.i think that this is totally unfair.an independent auto repair shop near my home only charged me $45.00 for the repair of the links which took only 15-20 minutes to repair.the mechanic at this shop said that he received five vehicles in the last two weeks that had the same parts replaced.there were three ford probe cars and two (including mine) mazda 626 cars.he believes that the stabilizer bar links are defective mazda/ford parts and should be recalled.i strongly believe that consumers should be reimbursed for parts and labor as well as the inconvenience.mazda and ford should notify all owners of these vehicles to warn them of these stabilizer bar link breakdowns.

My 1995 mazda 626 calls for only 26 psi air pressure in its rear tires.this seems like an extremely low air pressure. On a recent trip to a high altitude area (new mexico) the tire pressure in the rears indicated less than 20psi cold.is this air pressure too low and unsafe?

I originally bought 4 yokohama tires in 8/98 from sears/ntb @ mileage of 106780.the right front tire blew out on the highway.there was a tiny crack at outer edge of tread (mileage approx. 141500).sears/ntbstated the tire could not be fixed and i had to pay for a new yokohama tire (on 7/19/99 - mileage 141594).at mileage of153128, i was advised by my mazda service advisor, during a maintenance checkthat both front tires were showing cords.even though there was a warrenty of 60,000 miles (and i already had a newer tire), i was advised by sears/ntb to replace the remaining 3.i purchased the 3 new yokohama tires from them. The mileage was at 153284. On 3/23/00, my right rear tire blew out while i was driving on a surface street.the tire had a tiny crack on the outer edge of the tread.again, i was advised by sears/ntb that the tire could not be fixed.mileage was 162292.it seems unusual that i have had so problems with the yokohama tires.i suspect that there may be a defect, which is whyi am filing my complaint.i also have all my documentation if you need it.( dot number: 5229 tire size: p19565h14 )

Getting the transmission repaired costed me $1,000. I only put 10,000 miles on it when it came from the dealer, and it now has 27,000 miles and is sitting in my drive way unuseable. Im not paying another $1,000 to fix it again.

I have a 95 mazda 626 w/109k miles on it.i am religious about the maintenance, oil changes ever 3k, fuel filter, whatever my car needs- it gets.a couple of weeks ago i noticed something intermittent happening w/my car.i'm not a mechanical type, but i know that if i can't reproduce the problem for my mechanice chances are he can't know what is wrong to fix.last weekend 2/15/03, i was out running errands and it was not just an intermittent problem anymore.my transmission felt like it was slipping.i called my mechanic, he referred me to a transmission specialist.he says these types of cars (mazda 626) are known for these problems.after doing some research on the internet, it has come to my attention that there are hundreds of other consumers out there who have had failed transmissions even way earlier than me which indicates to me there is a need for a manufacture recall.i also saw there were many people who had problems with their oxygen sensors, as did i.i have contacted a law firm in michigan who i believe may be filing a class action lawsuit against mazda and/or ford and demanding a recall on these transmissions.here is their contact informationlaw-firm of roy, shecter, and vocht, p.c. In michigan - they can be reached at (248) 540-7660 fax at (248) 540-0321.also, here is the internet link for all the people i found complaining about their mazda 626.i wonder how many people there really are, that don't know about this forum.http://www.cartrackers.com/forums/live/yourlemon/189.html

I purchased an automobile, mazda 626, from sherold salmon auto super store, in rome, georgia.the car is defective.i spoke with their manager, mr. Mac jones about the car and he was very uncooperative and rude.i was lead to believe that it was a good car.mr. Billy quarrels, the salesman who showed me the car, stated to me, that the car was in perfect condition, a fantastic quality and good grade.when in fact, the car needed a new transmission.they advertised goods andservices with the intent not to sell them as advertised. Mr. Quarrels made a false and misleading statement about the car, when he said, "it was in good condition", "and there's nothing wrong with it".the responce i receive from the company is simply, "we're a big powerful dealership, do what you can". So, i'm writing to you.thank you.
