Component: vehicle speed controldetails: the contact owns a 2007 lincoln town car. The contact stated that the gas pedal and brakes were too close together. The contact observed that they were too close when the vehicle was purchased; i notify the dealer, reedman-toll, langhorne, pa approximately 6 months after purchase and was told that there was no recall on this condition. My husband, julius hyman, the primary driver, has experienced this unattended acceleration approximately 6 times and fortunately he was able to remove the foot from the accelerator allowing the brake to function before an accident occurred.or the manufacturer. .

I purchased the 2007 towncar on 6/24/08, with 14,500 miles. The problem occurs when my shoe is half on the brake and the pedal will go down to where the gas pedal is. This has happened 6 or 7 time already, the harder you press the brake the faster you go. Why does the brake pedal go down this far? my wife gets all shook up when this happens. I put the car in neutral and the car stops on a dime with the motor racing this looks like a design problem, why would you raise the brake and gas pedal at the same time, it would be better if you could raise or lower them one at a time. I have been driving for 50 years or more and never had this problem before. The last time this occurred was 8/28/08.

I was traveling west on 64 on 8\13\15 . There was a considerable amount of traffic but i was experiencing no problems until my car begin to swerve back and forth and i was unable to maintain the lane.we realized that we must get the car off the road and into the median to avoid being struck or striking a car in the right lane.after much effort we were able to do so but hit the guard cables which resulted in totaling our lincoln.in aug of 2013 we received a recall for the rack and pinion steering for our car and had it repaired on 3\21\14. We had to wait for the dealer to get the parts.there was another recall on 11\5\14 saying that cars with the intermediate shaft repaired during the first recall may not have been done correctly.my question is why did we not receive that recall?i feel that we did everything we could to insure that the best of circumstances occurred in what was most certain going to result in a crash and prevented others from being injured.if we had had that recall we could have had ours checked and possibly have avoided this accident. Since the car was totaled the only way it could be checked was to start the car and try to turn the steering wheel.this was done but does not indicate to me that there was no problem wit the steering, as we were able with great effort (both of us trying together) to turn it as well but the steering could not be controlled.please reply by email to [xxx]@ntelos.net or by phone at [xxx] or by mail to [xxx], waynesboro, va 22980.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).'

I am aware of the current recall regarding crown victoria, grand marquis, and lincoln towncar using the lower intermediate shaft corrosion as the issue. I am not convinced that this is the primary reason for possible loss of steering control. I lost control of the steering in my towncar a few weeks ago and had it towed to a dealer in new castle delaware. The service writer offered no explanation other than the steering column shaft had broken. After a personal closer inspection i determined that the steering column shaft was pulled apart as a result excessive travel of the lower intermediate shaft. The reasoning offered by ford blames only the issue of corrosion thus minimizing the parts for possible replacement. Fortunately, when i experienced the loss of steering in my car i was pulling into a parking space at low speed. Had i been out on the highway the results could have been much worse.

4 inches of rainwater in the rear passenger floor. Via the net this is a common problem with all divisions of ford's luxury cars 1998 to 2007. Youtube has several how to videos with 5,000 to 15,000 hits (keywords: lincoln town car water leak). The sheer number of video hits gives insight to how vast this problem is. The gasket that ford makes for these cars deteriorates. The leak starts slow and " mold spreads until someone sees inches of water in the rear passenger floor. My buddy followed repair video directions. Now the right rear is nice and dry to the touch*. Still waiting for the front to dry out*. Now the drivers side front and rear floor is wet. My shoes are slipping off the brake and gas pedals. I've only seen a few videos with drivers side leaks. Ford should recall all their luxury car models. Mold and your foot slipping off of a brake could prove fatal. So far i've learned via the net that water enters via an o ring for speedometer and or hood open cable. Next is google and yahoo. *i have no idea how much rust if any has occurred under my floor boards and if there is any chance carbon monoxide inhalation might be looming. I hear the only sure way to remove the water is to remove the seats then the entire carpet, attend to the rust if any and allow the carpets to sit in the sun for who knows how long. Ford should recall these vehicles as far back as they made these cheap gaskets. It's as if the engineers designed the gaskets and o rings for an indoor use not giving any thought to outdoor elements and heat from an engine. I put my foot on the brakes, put it in reverse, and it just took off, across the street, where i ran into 2 buildings.

Water accumulates on floor front and rear. Passenger sidethe car can be in motion or stationary during rain or going through car wash. We had a 2001 towncar with the exact same problem. My car had 94,106 miles then the repair was made.the front end was handling poorly and i knew the coil over strut assembly would need replacing.when my mechanic performed the work they called and asked me if i tried to work on the front suspension of my car and i told them 'no', as i have no tools or experience to do such work.i asked why they wanted to know and the mechanic informed that my upper ball joints were fractured and cross threaded.i wanted to know how it could happen and they could not give me answer (they speculate this was a factory assembly mistake) as the coil over strut should not be cross threaded, that is why they wanted to know if i did something to the car.lincoln town cars with the coil over strut front suspension are bad for falling apart and this applies to the upper and lower ball joints.i have several friends with this same car and they have reported fractured upper and lower ball joints.this seems to be a common occurrence due poor design of the front suspension.i feel a recall needs to happen as you can be driving your car and the front end will fall out.i am fortunate as i had enough sense to know my car was not handling properly and immediately took it in for service, a lot of people have not been as fortunate.i am attaching the repair bill to this file but my personnel information is hidden.i am maintaining the repair invoice in my personnel car file if you should need it.a recall needs to be done and ford motor company should re-design the upper and lower ball joint assembly to handle the heavy weight of these cars and reimburse owners for repairs already made.i do not tear up my car and this issue should not have ever happened.

The car was idling as i was preparing to leave my employer's parking lot. My foot was on the brake. At the moment i shifted the car into drive, the engine raced and lunged forward. With my foot firmly on the brake, the rear tires screeched, but the brakes kept the car from moving more than several feet..within several seconds, i was able turn off the key and return the shift lever to park.i tried to duplicate the problem in a safe area, but could not.my foot was not on both pedals (brake and accelerator) simultaneously as the engine was as idling when i shifted into drive.there is no floor mat to interfere with normal operation.the brake pedal was in a "raised" position- a feature of the car. I was not familiar with the "sudden acceleration" problem other drivers had reported previously, but i did read about problems associated with the raised brake pedal and the close proximity of the accelerator pedal (within the past few days).before researching the possible cause of this incident, i thought the problem might have been associated with the linkage of the two pedals.now, i'm convinced the issue will not be an easy fix.

I was doing 65 on the 60 freeway in city of walnut ca. And all of a sudden my car began to accelerate full speed, i looked at my dash just to see if cruise control was on, "which it was not" so i pressed the brake but the car kept on accelerating so i had to hold the brake down as hard as i could but despite doing that i was doing between 60 and 70 mph, i could not even get the car to go less than 60 mph no matter what, my exit came and i could not even get off by this time i had to swerve around cars because i could not slow down i was already panicking i really thought i was going to die finally after a few more seconds the car stopped accelerating and i was in control i need help to have this corrected as soon as possible please.thank you

On the ventura freeway in heavy traffic on nov 6,2008.driving at about 30 miles per hour, traffic made it necessary to stop.the car, as it has done before, had unintended acceleration.this was about the fifth or sixth time it has happened in one year of my owning the car.the other times it happened, i had brought it back to the dealer and they replaced transmission parts the first time but thereafter could not determine the problemin fact they had given me a type of computer to attach while i was driving so that if it did happen it would record some facts that would help them determine the cause.this computer stayed on for about two weeks a couple of months ago but it did not happen at that time.the week before nov 6, 2008, the computer, was again put on my car.so now i was standing on the brake in the middle lane of heavy traffic with the car surging ahead with unintended acceleration.it happened again when i got off the freeway and the same unintended acceleration which could have caused terrible destruction of life and or property had to be constrained by me standing on the brake and pressinga button on the computer to register the effect.this town car is extraordinarily dangerous, i have had it back many times for the same problem, and i do believe it cannot be repaired and should not be driven, as to the pain and suffering it may very well be responsible for if it cannot be stopped.

I purchased a 2007 lincoln town car in sept. Of 2009,28800 now with 33850 miles. During this winter i reported to ford motor company of my problem with the chrome peeling from all 4 wheels..i was told this is not covered...as the time has gone on the wheels have deteriorated and the ties do not hold air..i brought it to the ford dealer and had to pay 180.00 to fix 2 wheels that would go flat as i was driving..this was done by applying some type of rubber cement to the inside of the wheels..now i find the corrosion is so bad a 6" piece of chrome has peeled off and the place where the valve stems insert into the wheels have corroded both inside the tire and the out side..i was told by ford motor company that "this is an environmental problem " how does the environment cause this on the inside of the wheel. I find this to be a safety issue. If ii am driving and the tires loses air pressure i would lose control of the vehicle, i spoke to the service manager and the service writer who told me "we both worked at a lincoln dealership before and you would not believe how many of those came back like that, they would replace them but they stopped doing it" i live in massachusetts and was told by the dealer that the wheels have to be detailed..how do you detail wheels in 17 degree weather in january. I now have a car that i do not trust driving due to this and have not been helped in the least by ford motor company. And if this is an environmental problem with the salt on the roads why was i sold this car in this area of the country..god forbid i enter a construction site and i lose control of my vehicle..as we have just had 6 sp officers hit on the roadways and mass. Now has the move over law enacted...i cannot control the environment and this product is inferior and defective..the 2010 towncar uses steel wheels with plastic chrome inserts instead of the aluminum ally chrome plated wheels.
