Driving home from a shopping and near home we heard two very loud bang noises. The passenger side of the car lowered to the road. I was near my driveway, and i drove it into the yard. There it has sat with one side much lower than the other.

This well-maintained car is kept in a private garage.i cranked car in the morning and air bag light came on.drove to dealer without protection of an operational air bag system.dealer identified problem as passenger side, front seatbelt pretensioner but there had been no passenger in car either the last time it was driven or as the car was cranked and air bag light came on indicating a problem existed.

The air bag warning light came on and the alarm to get your attention sounded.this alarm occurs often and is disconcerting.i talked with the service manager at the local dealership concerning this problem and asked on two occasions for a free diagnosis of the reason of the airbag light warning and alarm but was turned down.i do not drive the car often as i am not sure if the air bags will deploy in the event of an accident.

The problem diagnosis was the left front seat belt tensioner. A lincoln dealer service employee said "the air bag will not work with this problem". At another lincoln dealership a service employee mentioned "this has been a real nightmare", many are having this same problem. I hear they had to change the manufacturer for the new part. Because of the part and installation cost, perhaps many people may not be able to afford the fix, therefore leaving them in a dangerous situation.

Upon driving the vehicle the air bag light would come on....and the seatbelt alarm would sound over and over again.so i took the car into allan vigil ford to be checked.they told me my seat belt needed to be replaced, which they said they had to pull the dash out to get to the proper parts.the cost of this repair was $594.27......the light came on again in september 9, 2013...at which time i carried it back to allan vigil and was told it was then the passenger side seatbelt with the same issue.....they repaired it at the cost of $630.88......i feel this should have been handled by ford,at no cost to me...because upon my further internet searches found this was an issue that has been going on several years with the seatbelts...of the 2006 lincoln towncars.also i feel i should have been given more consideration due to the fact that my husband retired from ford with 35 years service.please respond .

The contact owns a 2006 lincoln town car. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator flashed and remained illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vin was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 74,000.

The passive restraint indicator light came on and remained on with an audible alarm repeating 5 times for 5 cycles, and then repeating every 15 minutes or so.i took my 2006 lincoln town car to a lincoln authorized repair station.parts were back ordered and, after approximately 3 weeks, the vehicle was repaired and the indicator light and alarm functioned properly.this occurred in early 2010 with approximately 46,000 miles on the vehicle and was repaired under 5/50,000 mile safety device warranty.the problem repeated in july, 2010 and the vehicle was returned to the same dealer for repair.the vehicle was still under warranty with mileage being 49386.parts were back ordered.as of 10-5-2010, the parts have not been received and the dealer stated that the supplier to ford motor company was out of business and the needed parts were unavailable.the dealer also stated that the parts were only available from ford motor co.dealer stated that seat belt are functioning and he thinks the air bag will function.i am continuing to drive the vehicle on limited basis.updated ivoq 12/16/10

Seat belt alarm started going off.ford service department said they knew of the condition.the seat belt is not working correctly and in case of an accident the air bag/s will not engage.this is a safety hazard that the ford company has known about and refuses to fix at their cost.it is about $1,000.00 and i do not have that kind of money..this to me doesn't seem any different then gm knowing there is a safety problem but refuses to do a recall.ford service department claims there hasn't been enough reports of the problem to do a recall. So not having the money to fix this, i'm risking my life and anyone riding in the front seat with me each and every time i drive the car.i would appreciate any and all help on this matter.

The contact was advised that the seat belt sensor and the seat belt assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.

Airbag and seatbelt orange colored light has come on dashboard; 5 chimes x 5 times starting car and every half hour thereafter; car to garage, on diagnostic computer, front driver's seat removed; seat belt pretensioner bad; unknown with airbag; dealership states car is out of warranty; mileage is 57209.3; seat belt lap and shoulder harness have locked into place after adjustment since car purchased in august of 2006; should not lock per my mechanic; dealership and lincoln unwilling to pay to replace pretensioner and seat belt; can't determine if airbag is defective until pretensioner and seat belt replaced; lincoln could offer to comp dealership the costs of the pretensioner and seat belt replacement and airbag if airbag is found to be defective; have no idea if seat belt would work let alone airbag now; very concerned driving this car going forward; current and potential costs are high for me now; feel lincoln should pay as this had to be a known defect to anyone who drove this car at the dealership once it was delivered from the factory.

The contact owns a 2006 lincoln town car. After the vehicle was started, the driver side air bag warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 23,000.

Seat belt/airbag warning light appeared, and started regular chiming, 5 at a time.

March 22, 2013, airbag light appeared on dash.dealership service man advised me the light indicated the airbag may not inflate upon crash.i was charged $39.95 for miscellaneous repair to the electrical system but a diagnostic cost would be $89.95 and replacement cost would be approximately $1600. Due to cost, neither was the diagnostic nor the replacement completed. Today, the airbag's alarm beeping and the airbag's dash light continue to operate.is there any pattern related to airbags in 2006 lincoln products?

On friday, october 23, 2015 i backed my car out of the garage on to the driveway. As i hooked my seat belt all the warning lights in dash went off except for the airbag light.about one-half miles later, the beeps started.5 beeps, then pause.a total of 25 beeps in all.i see from other complaints it does that every 30 minutes.i had only 53,500 miles at the time.it is still like new and should not be having those problems.i see from all the complaints this has been going on since 2004.i would think a company as large as yours would have done something about it before now.i always thought you were 'man enough' to stand by your product.it is a crying shame!!!!!we need a recall on this.you are putting people's lives in danger!!!!!please reconsider and take care of your customers.

Light for seat belt came on and there was a beeping song, took to dealership, said that was a shortage and the pre-tensioners seat belt retractor had to be replace, if not replace if i got into an accident the airbag would not deploy. Paid 719.00 to have replace. Fast forward to today oct. 22, 2014. Same thing happen again took it to dealer said that this time it is the driver side that needsto be replaced. Spoke with some other lincoln owner of 2006 lincoln, it seems as though quite a few people are having the same problem.

Within a mile of leaving home, the seat belt light came on & started beeping.driver glanced down to check seatbelt only to find that it was coming unlatched.in the brief seconds that it took to glance down & back up, driver was already leaving the road and in a panic, accidentally hit gas instead of brake.car was totalled.the only airbag that deployed was the steering wheel.driver sustained serious trauma injuries to head, ribs, pelvis, femur as well as extensive hematomas.driver is also suffering from stress related to accident.driver is now recovering with the aid of physical therapy and other devices for mobility (walker, wheelchair, cane, etc.).driver is son of owner of vehicle.

As so many people have experienced, my 2006 town car has had the orange illuminated airbag warning light on thedash , along with the 5 chimes over and over. This has been going on for years, and i'm shocked to see how prevalent it actually is. Shame shame lincoln.

Warning light for airbag came on suddenly yesterday with no incident, light stays on and 5 sets of beeps repeating 5 times occurs, this occurred after the car was started and beeps started after driving... After turning off vehicle and turning back on it continues to exhibit same airbag light and beeping...drives with no issues except that.

While driving to work the airbag light came on and started chiming.i looked the problem up on line and found this is a common issue with lincolns.they stated the problem is in the connection and the repair by lincoln cost $700.many stated after fixing the driver side the passenger side failed soon after.decided to not take it in for repair due to cost and chance of another failure.

The contact owns a 2006 lincoln town car. While parked, the seat belt and air bag warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician diagnosed that the driver side seat belt sensor was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred on the passenger side seat belt sensor. Chimes 5 times and repeats5 times. This occurs every 30 minutes once car is started and seat belt/aibag light continuously on. Diagnosed by ford dealer as driver's seat belt retracror. Replaced and chime and light will not go off. Happens while stationary and while car is in motion. Haven't attempted to repair again due to cost and have read that this doesn't necessarily fix the problem.

Out of nowhere my airbag light came on and chimes started going off, no accidents no bumps no reason at all

At about the 83,500 mileage mark an airbag dash indicator illuminated and a series of 5 chimes played.the dashboard indicator remained illuminated at all times.the chimes would play periodically while the engine was running.it was diagnosed as a faulty airbag sensor in the passenger seat.that was fixed for about $780.about 1-week later it happened again.this time i was told by the same dealer service department that it was a separate issue and was the main computer control module.i'm still unclear whether it is the driver's air bag that will not, or may not, work or if it is both of them.i imagine that the side air bags are still functional.i cannot afford to repair this again for $800 and i have no way of knowing if they ever repaired it correctly the 1st time.it could be that the problem always was the main computer module.in any case, i'm not fixing it and i can't sell it as is.a google search reveals that this is a common problem with lincoln town cars from that era.i'm still perplexed why this hasn't been a recall issue already.

The airbag indicator light came on for a day then goes off and a couple days later come on again. We haven't taken it in yet but we will soon.

I started the car as usual and immediately the airbag light began flashing. After a couple minutes, the airbag light went from flashing to solid and the car began a series of 5 beeps and repeated this series of beeps 5 times. A local auto shop diagnosed the problem as the driver side seatbelt pre-tensioner and said it would be around $1,000 to replace, give or take a couple hundred. The shop advised if the repair was not completed, the airbags wouldn't deploy in the event of an accident. After researching online, this safety issue appears to be a common occurrence and has not yet been recalled. This issue occurs immediately when starting the car and the airbag light stays illuminated for the entire trip (the series of beeping seems to stop after repeating the series 5 times).

Air bag warning light came on. Took to dealer and they diagnosed failure of the driver seat belt pretensioner and replaced at a cost of $628. Thirty days later, august 13, air bag warning light came on again. Took to dealer and this time i was told the passenger side seat belt pretensioner was faulty and replaced at a cost of $764. It would seem that a safety requirement such as these should last more than a 100,000 miles?

My car is making a beeping noise and the air bag sign is showing on the dash.

The passive restraint indicator light (shows an airbag and seatbelt), also called seatbelt retractor, came on and remained on with an audible alarm (5 beeps, 5 times) repeating every 30 minutes. The problem diagnosis was for the left front seat belt pretensioner ( driver's side). A lincoln dealer service employee said the airbag will not work with this problem. At another lincoln dealership i was told many 2006 towncars had the same problem. It started beeping at 122,000 miles and i was not involved in a crash. A ford employee told me last year's supplier went out of business, so they had to change the manufacturer for the new part. The price went from $150.00 for the pretensioner to $360.00 for the kit (from the new manufacturer), which is the only thing you can get to fix the problem, even though you don't need a new seat belt, buckle, etc. Because of the additional installation costs ($200.00 to $330.00), many people may not be able to afford the fix, putting their lives at risk as well as their passenger's.

The contact owns a 2006 lincoln town car. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated. The contact mentioned that the passenger's side seat belt kit was previously repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 46,019 and the current mileage was 57,000.

Warning light came on beeped 5x in a row several times stopped then repeated over and over as long as we were driving.cost over 450.00 to replace seat belt.there seem to be many of this same problem listed.i have had 7 town cars in the last 20 years, never had a problem.i have already had a recall repair on the steering column.but, still love that car!!!

Air bag dash light on, there are 5 beeps five times every half hour. Repair shop/lincoln dealer says it's a seat belt sensor failure. Seat belt maker went out of business. Lincoln will not guarantee that a replacement belt from their stock will work. Cost to replace seat belt parts and labor $700.00. Per many blog sites this is a problem that ford/lincoln has not addressed. When questioned lincoln dealer will not confirm that the air bags will deploy in the event of an accident.

2006 lincoln towncar, problem diagnosis was left front seat tensioner the consumer was told by dealership that the problem was the left front seat belt tensioner and that the airbag would not work with the seat beltupdated 6/7/12 *sdupdated 07/13/12*lj

Seatbelt / airbag warning light indicator is warning about either faulty sensor or faulty belt tensioner. Began while in parked poison and continues periodically when in motion, regardless of speed. Cost to repair is exorbitant, nearly half the value of the car and is not guaranteed to work is last. The airbags will likely not worth in the event of accident but no way to tell unless there is an accident. Serious fault regarding required safety equipment with this make/model year. Mileage is 170,100.also, the passenger side floorboard, especial in backseat become saturated when it rains. Floor plugs are intact, the water is entering from poor design feature where the windshield/engine meet and supposedly slow for water to be channeled away from engine to ground but is actually channelling along the side into the passenger cabin footwell. Again, this design flaw is a known issue from manufacturer. This is a health and safety issue, especially in warm climates due to mold growing as a result of water pooling in cabin. As this car was garaged kept and not used often until the past 6 months, the water issue wasnt known until first rain this spring, 2016. Car was in open air, uncovered driveway and not in use for 2 weeks after said rain. When owner opened car door, she was hit with overwhelming stench of mold. She located the source and water had visibly saturated floor, rug and padding underneath. Black and green mold had grown extensively in backseat passenger floorboard and under front passenger seat.

I took car in for inspection, air bag light on. Dealer informed faulty sensor in passenger seat belt retactor cost to repair 1080.00 yeah!they said warranty gone so sorry. On a seat belt?

A lincoln dealer service employee said the airbag will not work with this problem. At another lincoln dealership i was told many 2006 towncars had the same problem, but on the driver? side, mine is on the passenger.the problem started around 114,000 miles, my car is now about 117,000 miles. And i was not involved in a crash.a ford employee told me last year?s supplier went out of business, so they had to change the manufacturer for the new part. Because of the additional installation costs ($200.00 to $330.00), many people may not be able to afford the fix.in my situation, neither lincoln, nor ford were able to get my part.it is not because my part was the wrong number, it is because the part in the box was the wrong part.we are supposed to get number five, i believe, tomorrow, 5/15/12.

Safety issue with air bag/seat belt.have had both driver's and passenger's seat belts replaced due to air bag lights coming on.between the two repairs have spent over $1,200.should be a recall on this problem since the air bags won't deploy in case of an accident.

Every time i drive my car my airbag light comes on and it chimes 5 times repeats a couple of times then shuts off.after doing online research, looks like this is a common/costly problem for the 06. Every half hour it beeps again 5 times repeats a couple of times then shuts off. Ford should issue a recall!

I started my town car and the air bag warning light started flashing and then the light remained constant. The series of chimes then started and stopped after the fifth series. This happened while the vehicle remained in park.

Driver was parking lincoln town car. Stepped on brake while putting car into park position. Car suddenly accelerated over concrete parking stop and slammed into an entrance to shopping center sign that was in front of the parking space.the car ended up with the front of the caragainst the sign and the rear wheels of the car up against the parking stop.also, the rear door locks failed, and passengers were unable to exit the vehicle and the air bag light illuminated. Air bag dash light on, there are 5 beeps five times every half hour.

Air bag light came on,ford ran a $60 test and said it was the passenger side pretensioner and the air bags might not deploy with this light on. Ford's cost to fix $750.from internet information it is a chronic problem on the lincolns, particular around the 2006s. The service manager knew what my problem was right away when i said air bag.i think there should be a recall, or help with the repair.

On the previous day i had replaced the left side low beam headlight bulb twice which did not fix the problem. Thought it would be a simple fix for a burnt out bulb. Turns out the origional bulb was not bad at all. Took car to dealer for diagnostic check. Problem turned out to be a lighting module ($659.25 part) not repairable, that had to be programed ($239.63 fee) by dealer before being reinstalled. This module also affected my brake lights which i was told were not working.if i had been out on the road when this occured instead of my local traffic area i think it could have been a safety issue. I feel this would have been a safety situation since i never knew my brake lights were not working and also not being able to get my headlight to work. What if both headlights had gone out while i was driving at highway speed because of this module. This situation also put me as car owner into the position of not being able to fix a simple headlight problem and turning it into a major car repair ($905.61 bill).i feel the use of modules to control headlight lighting is a major safety issue.it should not cost nine-hundred dollars to fix a headlight problem.i foresee down the road a whole lot vehicles with these modules having no lights.so much for the modern era.give me the old style electrical system with just wire and fuzes.part no:fmc 7w1z 13c788 aprocessor - lighting.

This was a continuous complainingthattheintrument panel illumination during the daylightwasnot bright enough.this got worse when a highway such as in arizonaor californiawas designated a safety section and reqiuired that the headlights must be on.then the panel wasimpossible to see. Thiswas dangerous as it tookattention away from the road many times. The dealer statedthat was the way itwas built, but cannot lincoln come up with a retrofit fix? their engineers should take a ride in a late model honda accord to see what the panel should look like in the daylight.

My parents bought the caras a certified / pre-owned when it was 6 months old.within the past six months the town car will suddenly try to accelerate, (or the engine will run up to the redline on the tachometer.)it will literally spin the back tires while both the drivers feet are on the brake pedal.we are contacting the dealer this week.this is getting more and more often.

Vehicle engine shuts down while driving at 50 mph.vehicle restarted after 20 minutes, was evaluated and no failures could be found.

Driving perhaps 30 miles per hour i suddenly heard the car accelerate and it started to go faster. I hit the brakes and thatdid not slow down the car. I was in heavy traffic and quickly went into a side street turning sharply and narrowly missingparked cars but struck two steel poles and than a parked truck. It was a horrible experience!

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 70 mph, the vehicle power failed and the engine stalled. The vehicle was steered onto the side of the highway and eventually restarted. The failure had occurred at least 50 times at various speeds, sometimes restarting right away and some times an hour was needed before the engine would restart. The service dealer and manufacturer were notified. The service dealer had worked on the vehicle 4 times. The first time the relay (part#4f1z-14n089-aa) was replaced. The second time, the catalytic converter and gasket were replaced. The third time the same relay was replaced as well as the wiring harness. The fourth time, the catalytic converter assembly and gasket were replaced again.updated 11/03/06.

Air bag light stays on at all time and beeps. Dash board and head light come on and go off at times on their own. Oil change light remains on at all times even when there is not a need for oil to be changed.

We heard a scraping sound and pulled into a parking space, another motorist jumped out of their car and said your gas tank is dragging on the ground! the vehicle was towed to the dealership.

The contact owns a 2006 lincoln town car. The contact statedthat while driving 10 mph, she heard a loud scratching sound. After inspecting the vehicle, she noticed that the fuel tank had become detached from the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was found that the fuel tank straps had failed due to corrosion and needed to be replaced along with the fuel tank. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 52,000.

On 6-18-2017, while driving on a 4 lane road with 2 passengers, the gas tank dropped and was dragging on the road. It did not ignite. It was towed to the dealer for repairs (invoice lics480075). I filed a complaint(case # cas12546829) with the ford-lincoln motor company. This was a potentially life threatening occurrence.

The fuel rail assembly develops pinholes in it and gasoline fuel leaks on the manifold and engine and can start a car fire.the fuel rail assembly has failed on a lot of these cars.the fuel rail assembly fails on its own.there is no wear and tear on this ietm.ford has not issued a recall for this safety issue.

I went to fill my gas tank, and my gas tank started leaking. I drove straightto my mechanic and he told me the gas tank had rusted through and the strap holding the tank had rusted and broke away. I had the tank and strap replaced at a cost to me of $632.

While exiting a parking facility cars were doing an alternate merge into a single lane.it was slow stop and go and i was waiting my turn with my foot on the brake.all of a sudden my car accelerated aggressively and i slammed on the brakes and put it in park.i used just less than a car length to stop the car after it lurched forward.i noticed that the tachometer momentarily exceeded 4000 rpm.this would have been an accident except for fortuitous timing.i allowed the car to my left space to merge and there was about a car length of space available which the other car had not entered yet.that space gave me the margin to get the car stopped without hitting a car in front of me.

The current and failure mileages were 31000. Updated 06/15/10also, the power door locks on the left rear door did not work.at times it did work, but it made a loud griding noise when it did unlock. Updated 09/28/10

Dt*: the contact stated both rear passenger side doors did not have a manual door lock, and could only be opened or closed by using the manual or power control which was located on the left front driver side door.the vehicle was inspected by a dealer, who determined this was the way the vehicle was designed.the manufacturer was alerted.

I own a 2006 lincoln town car, purchased new. Approximately once or twice per year the vehicle will try to accelerate as i am braking for a red light or a stop sign. Placing transmission into neutral position seems to result in engine slowing down. Taken to lincoln-mercury dealership in 3/07 and 4/10. They can not duplicate the problem and they state that they can not explain what is causing this.

I put the car in reverse to backup. Then, with my footon the brake, i place the car into drive goes forward. It continues forward for about a car length before it stops. The car has done this on several occasions.i fear for my life.

Our 2006 lincoln town car, with 3,500 miles, has a significant safety defect. When on an incline, facing downhill, the car will roll forward while in reverse. In addition, if the car is facing uphill in drive, it will roll backwards. The car will reach speeds of 6 mph rolling in the opposite direction of what gear the automatic transmission is in. We have had several near accidents trying to exit parking lots. Ford states they specifically designed this into the vehicle in order to have it pass emissions testing (they reduced the idle speed and altered the performance of the torque converter). They have put their customers (seniors) at risk.

The contact owns a 2006 lincoln town car.the contact stated that the vehicle has accelerated on its own five times while driving 30 mph.the first failure occurred on october 8, 2007.he placed the gear in neutral in order to slow the vehicle down and, on occasion, he would have to turn off the engine.the vehicle was taken to the dealer twice and the diagnosis indicated failure codes for the powertrain, control module, and (the dec) electronic control.the dealer reprogrammed the powertrain control module; however, the failure persisted.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer on november 1, 2008.the dealer stated that they may be unable to correct the failure.a report was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that they would call the dealer.the contact was informed that he would receive a call from the dealer.the failure mileage was 22,311 and current mileage was 32,390.

Permanent failure of the driver pretensioner. Open circuit. 72000 miles.

The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.

My car is making a beeping noise and the air bag sign is showing on the dash.

I took car in for inspection, air bag light on. Dealer informed faulty sensor in passenger seat belt retactor cost to repair 1080.00 yeah!they said warranty gone so sorry. On a seat belt?

The passive restraint indicator light (shows an airbag and seatbelt), also called seatbelt retractor, came on and remained on with an audible alarm (5 beeps, 5 times) repeating every 30 minutes.the problem diagnosis was for the right front seat belt pretensioner (passenger side). The price went from $150.00 for the pretensioner to $360.00 for the kit (from the new manufacturer), the only thing you can get to fix the problem, even though you don?t need a new seat belt, buckle, etc?.

Out of warranty, and vehicle was repaired at a cost of $354 parts and $305 labor.seat belt/air bag light came on again jan 8, 2015.original dealer diagnosed bad seat belt pre tensioner on the passenger side.parts on order and to be repaired feb 26, 2015.parts cost $507 and $305 labor.this is a definite safety item that has a history with this vehicle year and model.cost to customer is excessive and unacceptable considering this item must be repaired to insure a functional seat belt and air bag in the event of an accident.the excessive costs appears to be discouraging some owners from repairing this safety item according to other complaints to nhtsa.ford motor company has not fulfilled reasonable manufacturers responsibility on a safety item that could cause severe injury or death as a result of the malfunction of known defect in a required piece of safety equipment.

Seatbelt sensor on our 06 lincoln town car failed and replacement cost to replace the sensor is very prohibitive.i read many complaints with this same issue, so i believe ford/lincoln should be required to recall and replace said equipment.

Chimes 5 times and repeats5 times. This occurs every 30 minutes once car is started and seat belt/aibag light continuously on. Diagnosed by ford dealer as driver's seat belt retracror. Haven't attempted to repair again due to cost and have read that this doesn't necessarily fix the problem.

2006 lincoln town car; the rear seat belts are placed much too high & in an accident a passenger can have his or her head taken off. Please advise solution.

While driving my vehicle at approximately 45 mph on a local highway, there was an uncommanded movement of the foot pedal adjustment. The pedals retracted away from my feet to the maximum stop furthest away, which put them out of my reach and rendered it nearly impossible to activate the brakes or accelerator pedals. This nearly caused a loss of control accident, had i not disengaged my seat belt and slid forward under the dash to reach the pedals to stop the vehicle. I was subsequently able to use the control switch to move the pedals back into position.

On the 2006 lincoln town car signature limited, the accelerator and brake pedals are adjustable. The pedals are close together, therefore, leaving little space between the brake and accelerator. When trying to stop, the brake and, unfortunately, accelerator pedals were both being pressed at the same time. This has almost caused accidents when trying to stop for my spouse and me. This has been a problem since the car was purchased in feb 2006. The vehicle was not diagnosed or serviced. On june 3, 2014, i was leaving my driveway and saw a tractor-trailer coming down the road. Trying to stop, i pressed the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time. I pressed on the brake harder to stop; however, i was also pressing on the accelerator harder. This caused a terrible accident between the tractor-trailer and me. I was air lifted to a trauma center. The truck driver was also injured. My vehicle was totaled. I consider the adjustable pedals a very dangerous problem and the owners of of the 2006 lincoln town car signature limit8jsed with adjustable pedals should be made aware of this danger.

While driving the car i was approaching a stopped vehicle at a stop light ahead of me.when i applied the brakes there was what seemed like a surge of power and i put both feet on the brake pedal and it was not going to stop.i bumped the vehicle in front of me quite hard but there was no damage but the driver was quite upset and i do not blame them.on the second occasion my wife was driving the vehicle and when she went to stop anintersectionshe said the brakes did not do anything and she felt that the engine was getting gas causing it to accelerate and she went right through the intersection.she said that it was a good thing there wereno vehicles coming through the intersection or she would have been in an accident.the third incident happened last month when i was in a parking lot and i was pulling up to the curb when i applied the brakes.again there was a surge of power.i took my foot off the brake pedal and reapplied the brakes and then they engaged but by then i had jumped over the curb.i have discussed this incident with the service manager at the lincoln dealership indade city florida and with the service manager at the lincoln dealership in greenville michiganwhen i took my car today for a recall that i received in the mail about problems with the steering system and rust.i was told today that there has been no recall on brake issues and there was nothing wrong with the brakes at this time.this is our michigan car now and we are in michigan from may to november.we will be going to florida on november 18, 2013.

My 2006 lincoln town car only has 45,000 miles on it and is kept in a garage. The first incident was with my family on vacation in south dakota. The gas pedal stuck down to the floor and the vehicle began accelerating by itself. We were on the highway and the vehicle speed reached 85 mph.the second time less than a year later my husband was pulling into our driveway and it did the same thing he turned off into the grass to avoid hitting our children and garage. Both times he had to reach down and manually pull up the gas pedal. Even hitting the brakes wouldn't stop it.

Updated 06/10/14

When the brake was applied the car kept wanting to accelerate. I had to keep my foot on the brake and put the car in n then turn it off.i was stopping at a light.this has happened more than once with this vehicle.

Brake and accelerator are too close together and too often, when pressing on the brake pedal, the accelerator is pressed as well causing the vehicle to advance (either forward or in reverse). I brought it to the dealer (malouf) and was told they found no defect and there were no recalls or safety bulletins and there was nothing to do. I see, from reading the n.h.t.s.a. Reports that this is one of the most common complaints and the safety board should force ford/lincoln to install some devise that prevents engaging both the brake and the accelerator at the same time.

While coming to a stop, car accelerated when brake was applied. Car continued to accelerate while standing on the brake, smoking the back tires. The brakes could not hold the acceleration and gradually pushed into the vehicle ahead that was stopped.

I have a 2006 lincoln town car. It has a driver adjustment on the height of the brake pedal. Even with it at the top, when you apply the brakes, the accelerator is so close that you can push it also. This is very dangerous. Several times now, i have avoided an accident only because an oncoming driver missed me. Coming up to a stop sign, i've applied the brakes only to have the car jump forward into traffic.

I believe that the car is so dangerous. I am not willing to let anyone else drive it.i have been driving for proximately 54 years.this has included all kinds of cars including racing sports cars and big luxury cars and all types of emergency vehicles (including fire trucks and ambulances).i believe the problem is with the placement of the brake and accelerator pedal.this new car has adjustable pedals. I do drive with my heal on the floor boards and rock my foot back and forth from the gas to brake to stop.i had just a few hundred miles on my new car and at a stop light found i could not stop the car.i almost ran into the car in front of me.fortunately, i shifted the car into neutral and was able to stop the car but noticed the engine was racing when i came home i almost ran a stop sign since i could not stop the car without shifting it into neutral.and after finding nothing wrong they installed a computer with a button by my seat so that if that happened again i would push the button and the computer would remember the last twenty seconds of what happened.but by now i was used to the problem and would push the button slowly lift my foot off the brake and i noticed that i was probably pushing on the accelerators at the same time i was pushing on the brake.basically if i pushed real hard on the brake my foot would go down and push on the accelerator. This was confirmed by the dealership when they looked at the computer. A call to the lincoln headquarters took down all this information for future reference and told me that i would have to work through the dealership. I have noted that this problem has occurred with other drivers of 2005 town cars. I have noticed in the news more and more folks who have driven into walls and stated the cause is that they stepped on the gas instead of the brake.

Steering wheel locked while taking a left turn at a traffic light controlled intersection. Was able to stop car with brake before colliding with gas station curb/signpost. Of concern is that this car is part of recall 13s08, i was notified last fall. Went to a dealer promptly for a safety inspection on 11/18/13. Was told vehicle was safe to drive. Waited for dealer to contact me when parts became available. Never got a call, but got a follow-up letter from lincoln. While driving to dealer for recall repair, the incident happened before arriving at the dealer. Something is wrong with the safety inspection process. I was told the car was safe to drive. A less experienced driver would have crashed the car. At highway speed, there is no way any driver could have prevented a serious crash.

When braking to stop there was sudden acceleration that braking could not control resulting in hitting the rear of a stopped car in front of me. This has happened in the past with no warning. It usuallyhappens when braking, but not always. I have had the car to a ford dealership twice with this problem.they claim they can find nothing wrong with the car.i took it into them today after this incident. They would not even look at the car. Said that ford had no bulletins on this and said that i was on mu own. I see online that there has been a class action lawsuit against ford about this. This could be a life-threatening problem. What do i do?

My 2006 lincoln town car brake pedal depresses below the level of the accelerator a significant amount.the ford/lincoln dealer reports that it is operating normally, with no fix available. Foot pressure must be applied with no accelerator overlap, otherwise the car surges, the engine revs & tires spin resulting in a longer, stopping distance.this is ongoing since new.no accidents yet.

Unexpected engine run away.on multiple occasions the engine has gone to max rpm as the car is being shifted into gear.only the fact that i had my foot firmly on the brake pedal kept the car from moving.the brakes kept the front wheels locked but the rear wheel or wheels were able to spin.the vehicle has been stationary every time this has occurred.the date below is just for one time.this has occurred approximately 8 times since i bought the vehicle on july 17, 2018.
