1.i entered the vehicle which had been parked for approximately 90 minutes.i turned the ignition key to start the vehicle and at the moment i turned the key the driver side, seat/window side air bag deployed.the vehicle was not in motion, not in drive gear and was not struck by another vehicle.also, there had been no warning lights staying on indicating a possible problem with the air bag system.2.the side air bag struck my left shoulder and upper back. It was painful, but did not injure me.after a few minutes, i started the vehicle and nothing else happened so i drove a short distance to my home without further incident.3.i took the vehicle to a local lincoln mercury dealer and they determined that four wires in the main warning harness under the driver's seat were damaged, had shorted out and caused the air bag to deploy.the vehicle is a 1999 lincoln town car with 74,000 miles on it.they said all warranties were expired and there were no extended warranties on the vehicle and it is my responsibility to pay for the repairs.additionally, the warning harness( part # xw1z14a005aa) is no longer made and not in stockand may not be available.the estimate for repair is $3,500.00 parts and labor.if they repaired the wiring harness, i would have to sign a release of liability stating if the repaired air bag system failed to deploy or deployed when it should not because the wiring harness was not replaced the dealer would not be responsible.i contacted the ford customer relationships center and they said they had no history of this problem or recalls of this nature for this vehicle and that repair would by at my expense.

While driving vehicle will lose all electrical functions due to a short. Dealer had vehicle 3-4 months, but could not determine cause .vehicle has had multiple problems.out side door panel came off.brakes are spongy.windshield failed.seat malfunctions.dash lithts and stereo failed at diffeerent times.

I was driving my daughter to school when i noticed the inside of my car started sparking near the dashboard then a few mins later my wheel locked up i couldn't turn and almost crashed. I put power steering fluid in but that didn't help . Also had someone look at it and they said its a problem with the bearing underneath the hood is also sparking when i start the car.

Takata recall: steering wheel has smoked before lightly, interior lights have stayed on,steering wheel has done a 360 turn, corrosion on the side panel and panel(chrome) has fallen off. I'm not sure how late a recall time frame is but my car happens to be very old now so i'm wondering if this is the case i have pictures from what the car looked like and up to now also my car is now at 366.'- miles so this may not even be something to be turned in, this state has also done so much damage from the potholes..

Heater wasn't blowing heat.*phthe dealer replaced the eatc module and the blower motor speed controller.

Complete loss of power on lincoln towncar 1999, had to be towed from highway.

1999 lincoln town car with 71,932 miles suddenly and without any warning caught fire ten minutes after being parked in an attached garage. This incident caused the home to become structurally damaged due to fire. Vehicle was purchased as second owner in 2003until present time. No recalls notices were ever received.

2 occasions where ball joint snapped and vehicle was moving and fell to ground .while my child was inside . Major electrical issues such as: odometer flashes constantly and gas gage wacked out ever since vehicle fell to ground every thing was working properly before and on the first incident is when it started and continues to get worse.suspension and steering : also since car fell to ground has cause steering and suspension to be almost impossible . I have had several mechanics rip me off and have spent thousands on trying to get vehicle back to the way a lincoln should drive . And still the results are not good.i cant drive on express ways because vehicle is extremely hard to control and stay in lanes .as well on side streets/main roads . It also has a very high tendency to loose control when driving over a small , medium or large bump, div-it or crack in road which could or will eventually result in a crash.by all means i love my 1999 lincoln but certainly does not drive or operate properly like one should .i do also understand that its a 13 year old car and things will go wrong but after do my research and being that i am naive and very uneducated with mechanics on a vehicle i simply let this pass for sometime now to realize these re occurring incidents are not normal and here i am now my results are a damaged car with recall supported and thousands of my hard income to replace parts on car to get back to proper working order . Something should be done or if possible be settled in the middle/halfway which would be fair.i hope i can be a true ford lincoln supporter/buyer for ever and don't want to be disappointed.

Intermittent difficuly in starting car will not turn over right away.dealer has car for third time.so far has be unable to isolate problem.as had car since 3/10/99

As the car neared the end of its warranty, i had several failures. The air conditioning failed at 45000 mi., two coil packs failed under warranty. I was driving the car about a week before the final failure and it just lost all power. I barely got it to pull by holding it in low gear. It would barely move but i got it to a parking lot and left it for about an hour. When i returned it started up and drove just fine. I took it to the lincoln mercury dealer and they could find nothing wrong. About a week later my wife started to drive the car (cold)andalmost got run over trying to leave the driveway. I was walking one block up the street and she pulled in and asked me to look at the car. It was running very rough just as before so i told her to take it back home and park it and take the other car. She did this, locked it and left. It had only run about 4 or 5 minutes. As i walked around the block i heard a car alarm going off and as i approached my house i saw the car on fire sitting just outside the garage, luckily i called the fire dept and they came and put it out but it was destroyed. The car was maybe one month out of warranty so i called the dealer, the regional ford rep and a retired ford rep i know. And none of them would talk to me, return phone calls( in the case of the regional ford rep) i called detroit to the executive offices of ford and a lawyer told me it was not their problem and to file a claim with my insurance company. He would not even send someone to inspect it. The insurance company paid off and i tried to get them to investigate to find the problem but i don't know what they did. The fire was obviously electrical but i don't know more. The car was a 1999 lincoln town car so the present recall doesn't cover enough cars.

Consumer has a limousine which is experiencing electrical problems. The circuit board that controlled all the lighting and air conditioning in the rear of the vehicle failed. The manufacturer stated that the circuit board was upgraded. The connector heated up which could have caused a potential fire.

Vehicle parked for 2 days when smoke was noticed coming from vehicle.engine compartment fire that burned 2 ft hole in hood and melted all wires under hood.fire department claims fuel pump was running without key in ignition.

The consumer believed there was a design defect with the vehicle.the fuse box was positioned under the hood directly above the right front wheel well.the fuse box started to melt due to water from the road contacting it, which caused the air shocks and other electrical components to fail.

Lincoln town car, 1999, leaking intake manifold due to defective part originally used in manufacture of car that ford was reportedly aware of but has never recalled the cars for replacement of a better part now with metal parts to prevent cracking that occurred in the original all plastic manifold intakes. At one time there was a very under-published lawsuit enabling owners who had already fixed this deficiency a $700+ rebate but the offer was only for a short period of time.apparently the former owner of my lincoln town car knew nothing about this opportunity and problem was diagnosed 2 years ago. Previous owner thought it was no big deal. Today many ford owners have been left holding the bag for this expensive and sometimes engine damaging repair when they reportedly knew about the defect and continued selling the cars. Coolant constantly leaks out causing possible engine damage as well as risk of overheating if coolant isn't constantly added. Repair is approximately $800-$1000. Many fords have been affected.

The contact owns a 1999 lincoln town car.the contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact became aware of noticed liquid dripping from the air vents. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for diagnosis and repair. The diagnosis was a failure with the intake manifold. The dealer was not contacted and the manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

The contact owns a 1999 lincoln town car. The contact stated that the vehicle had been making an abnormal noise near the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine piston had been encountering the cylinder wall and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 35,000.

The intake manifold on my 1999 lincoln town car developed a crack and began leaking all over the engine . We bought the car in 2008 and the manifold had not been changed and we knew nothing of the "settlement" with ford to replace them.. I contacted ford and they told me that agreement ended march 16, 2006..now the ford dealer wants $1000 to replace it.. Why should the car owner have to pay an excessive amount when ford is responsible for installing plastic in an engine compartment that gets hot and is bound to crack at some point..just a warning .. Don't buy a town car without checking on recalls, bulletins, and settlements...

We purchased two new towncars from germain linc.-merc., naples, fl, in 1999 and 2000 my car's,vin [xxx], 1999 town car, and my wife's 2000 town car, vin [xxx].my first complaint is regarding my car that developed electronic problems right after it ran out of warranty, and needed a $500 repair. A week later, it developed a leak, and was repaired at $1000. Is this planned obsolescence? this was at 56,000 miles of use. Shouldn't the dealer check basic systems and make sure they are well maintained? my wife's towncar has a far more serious and hazardous history. She, along with our grandsons, experienced a tire blowout at 33,000 miles. After the tire was changed to the spare, she drove to the dealer and was told that both rear tires should be replaced for safety. She agreed. When she picked up the car, all 4 tires (!)had been replaced at the cost of $548. There was no price adjustment for any of the 4 tires removed. On 12-23-02 (3 days later) she reported to the dealer that the brakes were noisy (squeaked). When she got the car, the bill for the brakes was $420. When driving our 2 daughters and 2 grandsons the following day, the brakes did not hold, and she was unable to stop at a red light, nearly hitting the car in front of her. Only by forced pumping with both feet, and swerving into the turn lane, did she avoid a crash. Had cars been coming in that turn lane, any number of people, particularly in our family, could have been killed. Shouldn't the customer "advisor" advise a minor brake-pad replacementrather than wait for a major expensive/dangerous problem? we strongly doubt that we would consider another ford product. This is a short history of 2 regularly-dealer-maintained luxury cars.information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

Car has a problen in the steering box. Took it to a specialist and ford discounted it. They sent a lincoln rep down and he just lied to me about the problem said it was a factory flaw and could not fix , then i took the car into the dealer for a pinging and they said they couldn't hear it (nothing was done)then later on a trip it went haywire sounded like a big diesel truck on the highway and ran like crap , sucking gas also, then changed dealers and they said they coulden't find a ping . I grabed me a mechanic and we took a little ride and before i could get it back it was pinging (took them 3 weeks to fix with me coming up almost daily to test it, and nobody can adjust the head lights on the car that is bad its idiot proof

The contact owns a 1999 lincoln town car. While driving approximately 40 mph, the contact heard a loud crack. He pulled over but did not find the cause of the noise. The vehicle was taken to a local repair shop where the contact was advised that the front ball joints needed to be replaced. The contact called the manufacturer in regards to recall 98v322000 (suspension: front: control arm: lower ball joint) but was told that the vehicle was not included. The contact also stated that there was a crack in the intake manifold and a mechanic told him that it needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 111,500.

Ford motor company, p.o. Box 1904, dearborn, michigan 48121, chose to not warn a segment of their full-size car owners who are "civilian" that their cars were produced with a plastic intake manifold that was failing and causing enormous coolant problems for their 4.6l v-8 engines and other component engine parts.because ford did not notify me of their known problems with the intake manifold the defected part caused my car to repeatedly loose coolant and cause my car to overheat and finally blow my intake manifold gasket causing me to replace defective intake manifold (copy of shop bill attached) and causing unknown damages to my engine.i am requesting a refund for these repairs.

(1)normal driving; nothing unusual(2)leaking of coolant into air conditioning system; oily substance on inside of windshield(3)heater core replaced 3 times in less than 6 months; first time at my expense.3rd time i was told that ford motor company had 'found a solution' to keep it from happening again...at an additional cost of $464.27

Consumer noticedcoolant levelswere dropping.dealership indicated that because the levels were dropping at a slow pace it was normal. Three months later, coolant level dropped at a rapid pace.dealership then indicated that the intake manifold was leakingengine coolant. Consumer indicated that therewas a tsb on this issue that indicated that the coolant leaked and sprayed onto the alternator, causing a short.this tsb only applied to police vehicles and limousines because their mileage was higher.tsb not found in artemis.*mr

I was never notified about the ford recalls on intake manifold, i recently found out that my manifold had cracked and that prior to it braking ford had settle a lawsuit regarding said problem. I have never nor has my godfather be notified about the recall item. Known ford recalls:97m91, 99m01, 01m02 did not apply to privately owned vehicles why.

The intake manifold on my 1999 lincoln town car is leaking coolant. My wife noticed a noise coming from under the hood, when i turned on her car to listen to the noise i could tell it was the fan belt squeaking. While the engine was running i opened the hood and i could see the coolant running out of the thermostat housing. I thought it was a bad thermostat so i bought a new one and replaced it myself. It wasn't until i turned the car on following the repairs that i saw the coolant coming from cracks in the manifold. I did not know of the ford recalls 97m91, 99m01, 01m02 until i was researching to buy a new manifold on the internet.i bought this car back in 2000 and never was notified of the recall. This vehicle has 160,000 miles on it and still runs great, until now.i feel i should have been notified of this recall and ford motor co. Should reimburse for my expenses.

While driving at 25 mph vehicle stalls.consumer has to come to a complete stop to start again. Consumerfeels this is very dangerous.consumer states transmission vibrates after driving and is also noisy.

Ford motor co. Car service engine light come on.

1999 lincoln town car, cracked intake manifold.my husband, lewis barber, jr., spoke with ford today and was told that ford would not reimburse replacement cost.even though ford told my husband that they mailed notice to me in july 2005, i never received any such notice.i keep very good records, and my car has been in an authorized dealers repair shop but no one told me about the cracking intake manifold problem or any lawsuit "settlement".i found fords number from a letter they sent me dated august 2000, which concerned a problem with tire jacks --at that time i lived in oklahoma city.there may be hundreds of others who are similar situated.again, ford did not give me any notice of this problem.i paid $1,179.56 to c&f automotive (2439 n. Decatur blvd, las vegas, nv 89108-0000 - 702-647-7787) to replace the cracked manifold.

When driving at various speeds intake manifold cracked, causing anti freezeto leak out.

While driving, the vehicle started to shake vibrate. The consumer took the vehicle for an inspection and the mechanic informed the consumer the manifold had cracked.

Consumer hadvehicle in the shop for several times for transmission/ air conditioner, andbrakes. Rotor were turned, andwhen applyingbrakes pedal goes all the way to the floor . Consumer took vehicle to the dealership.mechanic stateddefective padsaffected rotors, androtors had to be replaced.

1999 lincoln town car.consumer writes in regards to vehicle air conditioner system malfunction and repair cost issues.the consumer stated when she turned on the air condition, it was blowing out hot air. The consumer was informed the vehicle needed a condenser.

The issue recurred with the front end still being out of alignment with a scraping sound. On or about october 19, 1999, we purchased a 1999 lincoln town car from the dealer which is really dan pfeiffer.we were told that the car had never been in an accident.we were told a lot of things which were not true.in any case, we had nothing but trouble with the car and finally we researched the history of the car ourselves when it became apparent that the dealership was just stringing us along.it turns out that the lincoln had been totaled in an accident about 5 months before we purchased it.state farm insurance company totaled the car but then directly or indirectly caused it to be cosmetically repaired and we ended up paying $46,000 financed for a car which had been totaled about five months before we purchased it.since i am sure that the dealership knew about the accident prior to our purchasing the car, do they have sources of information which would show the history to them but not the consumer?it does not show up on carfax or vhr and the like.however, we do have a beautiful title suitable for framing if nothing else.

When it rains the water runs off the windshield on the drivers side, the water goes down to the ground between the kick board and the fenders and properly drains to the ground. The problem is: on the passenger side the water from the windshield comes in through the kickboard area flooding the floorboard. This has been a constant problem. Water comes in and damages the carpet. Leaves a puddle of water on the floor.

When driving through a puddle, or even when parked in the rain, there is a water leak on front passenger floor that seems to come from up underneath and behind the glove compartment.this has been happening for over 3 years.and soaking the carpet more quickly than before.while we had no way of knowing, suspect the leak was there when we purchased.how do we find it? *nlm

During every rain water runs down the inside of the firewall on the passenger's side, behind the glove box, soaks the front carpet, and stands as much as 1 1/2" deep in the rear floor. Both carpets were very moldy. I have taken the car to dealers, body shops, and windshield glass experts, and nobody can fix it. If i run a small stream of water from the hose on the lower right corner of the windshield it will show up on the inside of the car within a minute. I have been trying to solve this problem for at least 3 years.

I think it may have been the plastic intake manifold melted maybe? any ways thought i would report that this is actually a very dangerous thing it almost burnt me alive going down the road and then almost burnt a business down and i'm hoping to get some sort of compensation because no one told me till just now. If i could get some info on who to call at ford that'd be great

Intermittently while driving in the cruise control mode, and whenoccupant pressed the brakes, vehicle jumped forward and speeded up which may have caused a crash.been to dealer, cannot determine the cause.common problem.please provide further information.

Vehicle experienced sudden acceleration causing the vehicle to hit a metal fence and cause damage to the vehicle.nlm

The brake light switch failed in the consumer's 1999 lincoln town car.the brake pedal felt spongy.the shifter could not be moved into drive or reverse.the cruise control would not deactivate when the consumer pressed the brake, it had to be turned off manually. *sb

The consumer's vehicle has required multiple repairs to include ball joint replacement, turned rotors and idler arm replacement.the vehicle only has 70000 miles. The cruise would not shut off without a near skid amount of braking, this would also occur because the shifter would not come out of the park position. *sc

When this vehicle was started up and shifted intodriveit accelerated up to 40 mph on its own, resulting in an crash. The dealer has been contacted.

Vehicle was parked with engine off. When started, vehicle went approximately 10-14 feet. Attempted to make a u-turn, and put foot on brake pedal, but there were no brakes. Vehicle accelerated out of control.put vehicle in park and it continued to travel and hit a parked car in the rear, but continued to travel.finally vehicle was turned off and it stopped. Upon impact , air bags failed to deploy. Drive rsustained injuries, and vehicle was totaled.

Interstate at rush hour, 60 mph no where to go ??????????very dangerous.

Interstate, 4 lane rush hour, no where to go and i can't see.lucky to be alivethis is the 4 th time this motor has gone out. 4 times in 18 months.this is too dangerousand ford needs to be held accountable before somebody dies. This is a duplicate complaint because i left out some information on previous submition.

Extreme and excessive hot air is dispensed from the side window demisters which increases the temperature inside the vehicle, the windshield and dashboard become extremely hot, high internal noise due to the problem.*mjs

The contact owns a 1999 lincoln town car. While driving at an unknown speed, smoke emitted from the air vents and caused the vehicle to overheat. The coolant also drained onto the floor of the vehicle. The dealer stated that the heater core failed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred five times. The manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 105,824.

Heater core failure.this causes vapor and odor from the engine coolant to leak through the vents and to coat the windshield with an oil-like substance making it impossible to see through the windshield.heater core was replaced 10/04/04.went out again 11/24/04.ford motor company acknowledges that this is a recurring problem in this model vehicle.$737.54 to have heater core replaced.they 'think' they can prevent this from occuring again if they do something else that will cost me an additional $547.00, but 'no guarantee' that it won't happen again and no additional warranty on the heater core.

Defroster system does not function in adverse weather properly. The positioning of the vents are not directed correctly. So the windows do not get cleared. Dealer is aware of problem, and says its a factory defect.

I have a 1999 lincoln town car. The windshield adhesive has failed apparently from having been parked outdoors for 25 days.the windshield has slipped down about one half inch and it is leaking. It is loose enough that it vibrates when the door is closed.i searched for a recall and although there was none for the lincoln windshield, i did see that the ford windstar mini van had a recall for using the incorrect urethane adhesive(campaign id number 00v020000).my lincoln towncar was built at ford's wixom plant where the windstar vans were built and near the same time.

At highway speedsleft rear view mirror shakes so badly that you can see there is something out there but you have togo to the center mirror to see what it is.lincoln changed it once with no improvement but i consider it dangerous.was told by olathe lincoln to get used to it.after 24,000 miles i still am not used to it.

Consumer stateswhile driving the rear viewdriver side mirror keeps popping out,as a result of a faulty mount bracket. Had part replaced several times, problemreoccured.

While driving, driver's rear view mirror popped out of the mount.

Sun roof has a gap in the seal. Consumer also states the she is dizzy and nauseous when inside of the vehicle, dealer states it is the characteristic of the car, cannot remedy the problem.

Wind roar at sunroof when open or closed. Dealer has knowledge of problem but states they have not issued a recall and so cannot repair . This noise is very distracting at highway speeds ,and has contributed to several near accidents. Nlm

Windshield angle permits reflections of the dashboard components and street lights, almost resulting in accidents due to poor visibility.

Windshield is loose.dealership is aware ofproblem.he said thatconsumerputfinger against window and push it through.

Windshield became inoperable in heavy rain storms. It had been four times.

Windshield design causing reflections which create poor visibility.

Crash - windshield wiper failed during heavy rain storm.

Crash - windshield wiper failed during heavy rain storm.

This was a spontaneous failure of a cast aluminum wheel.original equipment.it was not heat related, nor was there any kind of impact or collision.the wheel had not suffered any kind of previous damage.the tire is still in perfect condition.the rim exploded after a failure of the floor of the wheel. I have pictures.

I noticed a tire going down on my wife's 1999 lincoln town car. When she took it in for repair, they found nothing wrong with the tire. However, the wheel had a crack across the bead( not due to damage ). I had to order a remanufactured wheel at a cost of $155. I had to trade the old wheel in.obviously, it could have been very dangerous. Not sure of the exact date, app. 1 yr. Ago.("vehicle type" box below would only offer "incomplete vehicle" as an option. This is not an incomplete vehicle. The only way i could proceed was to choose "incomplete").
