Brakes grab.
This is a continuing problem with this car and i have talked with other town car owners who have the same problem..when purchased brake work had to be done because of pulsation that was at 24,000 miles, again 5/30/97 machined front and rear rotors, repl rear calipers and pads,6/11/97 replace front rotors, last year more brake work, now the brakes are shuddering again. Local ford dealer admits problem; but ford company says no problem exists...car now has 41,000 miles; have had other ford products brakes lasted 65,000 miles no probem..any help will be appreciated..thank you.

Faulty brake lines, rusted sections, leaking loss of braking while driving. I checkedthe brake lines, i found the 2 brake lines going to the rear of the car severely rusted, leaking sections. (photo enclosed)a line adjacent to the brake lines looks new, no rust at all!everything else under the car, including parts that normally rust like the muffler, tail pipe, etc. Are in great shape. It is obvious to me that the brake lines used in this particular year of the lincoln are faulty,( a material defect)! i havemade several phone calls to inquire about having it fixed because my car is not safe to drive. I have been told that this car needs some very unusual, and expensive, labor to replace the faultybrake lines. (the frame and body of the car has to be separated) what type of engineering is that? ive received estimates to fix my car at a minimum of $1500! ive also been informed that this is possibly an unpublished recall for this particular car with such serious brake line erosion, a material defect! it doesnt take an expert toknow that these brake lines are a danger to the public! any people who happen to be at the wrongplace and time, when these defective brakes fail it could be catastrophic.

The right front wheel separated from the front assembly.the vehicle is at the dealership but has not been checked at this time so the exact failure is uncertain.this failure appears to be similar to failures experienced by 1995 lincoln towncars which were identified in nhtsa: 96v135000 and nhtsa: 98v322000, however, fmc advised me that this vehicle was not subject to those recalls.it is probable that the investigation into faulty steering linkages of 95 lincoln towncars should be expanded.i have asked the dealership to provide me with all failed components.if nhtsa would like to have access to those components, i will make them available.

The 1995 is very comfortable but air bags, suspension, windows, and electrical system (unlocatable shortage) do not work.good mileage and seats, etc very good. The key switch is defective and you can remove keys without turning off. No air bags operable.
Traveling at 65 mph on freeway the car began to wander without steering wheel input--the steering wheel had one inch free play from either side of center.had car put on rack--checked front end (nothing abnormal found), but with wheels on ground the steering wheel can be moved one inch in either direction from center without wheel movement-mechanic suspects defective steering sector. Forddealer inspected car and found same conditionexisted. Dealer notified ford, but no corrective action taken. This condition is not good--car wants to drift all over the road and and has loose steering--speed sensitive steering w/select steering effort hasnot effect on condition. Presently i do not trust the vehicle. It is a dangerous condition.
