A recall was initiated 6 months ago for faulty fused wiring harnesses on many ford/mercury/lincoln vehicles. The recall began on august 13, 2007. This recall was the subject of an engineering analysis, ea05-005, conducted by the office of defects investigation. 07v-336. In the fall of 2007 dealers told owners that the repair parts would not be available until december 2007, now dealers are telling owners that the part is still not available and projected that it won't be until march 2008.why has ford been allowed to drag it's feet for 9 months on repairing a safety hazard?when can owners expect to have a properly restored vehicle?
My car, a 1994 lincoln town car, caught fire and burned sitting in my drive with the engine turned off.i had parked it and turned the engine off 5 1/2 hours earlier before the incident.the car was a total loss there was an explosion( i suppose it was due to one of the tires blowing out) that threw some debris from one of the parts that burned into the side of the house causing a hole in the siding on my house and the heat from the fire also buckled the vinyl siding on my house..i have reported this incident to ford motor company, but they do not seem too interested in investigating to see what caused the fire to start. I am including pictures of the burned car and a copy of the fire department's report.

Recall campaign 07v336000 is not being implemented. Ford is simply destroying the vehicle's cruise control and since their liability is thus eliminated, they are systematically dragging their feet in repairing cars. The fix promised in october 2007 is now claimed to not be available until dec. 2007. My parents car has been rendered unusable for trips since august and now they will not be able to travel for thanksgiving or christmas!!! one is disabled and cannot drive and the other has leg spasm problems and must use cruise control for safe driving for more than an hour. Ford refuses to reconnect the system pending their fix which i suspect will never appear.thanks for nothing dot and ford!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Consumer states the head light lenses are discolored causing poor visibility when driving at night. The manufacturer has been contacted. Consumer adds at any speed, a 2-car length distance of illumination is way too short for personal safety and driver response time.
The low beam headlights are insufficient due to the dulling of internal components as the result of an apparent design defect. The mfg. Used a 9005 bulb with a diffuser. The bulb and diffuser generate excessive heat and have dulled the reflective material inside the headlamp assembly. The 9005 bulb is a high beam bulb used, in this case, in a low beam assembly.i urge the nhtsa to investigate this matter as it seems to be a common complaint coupled with a serious safety hazard. *la

Transmission overdrive failed.
After we hit a deer, we noticed that the car vibrated when shifting, when explaining this to repair service, they stated that they doubt it was caused by the accident because they had heard of a lot of problem with a plate or disc that is inthe transmission of the town cars that cracks. When the car warms up it will vibrate when it tries to shift.
While cruising at speed, usually on interstate - vehicle encounters slight hill.transmission attempts to shift and transmission disengages, or transmission downshifts violently and unexpectedly.this causes the car to accelerate rapidly challenging the driver for control of the vehicle.transmission in for diagnostic twice at l/m dealers, once at aamco - diagnostics/tests show no defect.lincoln mercury will do maintenance cycles but refuses to admit/engage problem.

When driving at 35 mph, there is a washboard shudder effect with transmission which causes steering wheel to vibrate. Consumer states the cause of the vibration was due to a faulty transmission electronic module.consumer states that 2 michelin tires experienced blowouts due to tread separations from the steelbelts, 2 of the other tires had steel wires that came through the sides of the crown areas, the other tire developed holes which allowed the tire to leak air, michelin steelbelt radials, xw4 m and s 97s, p215/70r15, dot number htc7585x044.consumer states the replacement tires were firestone, p215/70r15, 97s dot number hym3mia338, of these tires 2 of them experienced tread separations from the steelbelts and blewout.

1994 lincoln town car the lower ball joint on the front drivers side of the car suddenly broke in half allowing the lower control arm of the car to fall to the ground.fortunately, i was just parking when it happened.their was no warning of a problem with the ball joint.the car drove fine.i understand that a recall exists for this problem (98s37), but according to the dealer, my car is not covered by the recall.obviously, it should be.
Lower control arm hit the asphalt and caused the vehicle to crash. Dealer replaced the lower ball joint.
While driving my 1994 lincoln town car at 20-25 mph in hopewell nj my drivers side lower ball joint separated, causing the lower control arm to fall to the ground and the wheel well to fall on the top side of the right front tire, rendering the vehicle immovable.the car was then towed 42 miles to my home on a flatbed truck at the cost of $192.00.with the aid of a neighbor (a professional mechanic) the ball joint was replaced with an aftermarket part, cost $52.00(no labor cost-self installed).the broken ball joint( i have retained the broken part in my possession) did not have any fittings for lubrication, but according to ford customer service division in dearborn mi( mr.paul laffin ) my vehicle was not part of any safety recall(98s37 ford's # ) or 98v322000.i was advised that i should take my car to the nearest lincoln dealer for inspection and or service of the other (right side) ball joint.my driving to and from work involves 15 miles on an interstate highway,i guess i was just lucky to have this failure occur on a city street at 20 mph.i am very dissatisfied with ford, lincoln for their responseto my issue which i believe is a defective part that they refuse to take responsibility for and correct.even if my car was not in the original recall, i feel it is a similar issue that should be addressed in a like manner when it has been brought to their attention.as for nhsta i would like your office to look into the assembly specs for all 1994 lincoln town cars to see if all were equipped with this type of (ungreaseable) ball joint. Thank you.
