Dt: 1991 ford lincoln town car.whiledriving the car turned on the air conditioning and about 15 to 20 minutes later saw fire coming out from underneath the hood, surrounding the right front wheel. Pulled off the road, by that time the car had a large fire.the consumer put the fire out by throwing water on it. After looking at the car saw that all the wires were melted around where the wheel was,andalso there wasa melted rubber. A friend inspected the car.he cut a wire that let the consumerdrive the car home. Where it was parked. There wasa short circuit in the wiring system.the car has not been repaired.

On my brother's 1991 lincoln town car executive series, the main power wire to the headlight switch appeared to overheat and melt inside the switch assembly causing the lights to, at first, flicker out and then come right back on and as the problem progressed over a period of 2 weeks the lights would come on for a second or two and then not come back on at all. I replaced the switch and wire harness for him, which seemed to fix the problem. But he has since sold the car.i also encountered the exact same problem on my friend's father's 1992 lincoln town car (executive series), i fixed it the same way and it doesn't appear to have come back (i fixed it about 4 months ago). By the way the 1991 lincoln town car did not have the "autolamp" feature and the 1992 did.

While driving along 70mph all of a sudden vehicle lost power. Then, it picked up again. No warning lights came on.the second time this happened was while drivingat 45mph, and all of sudden lost power. Didn't contact dealer or manufacturer.

I have had problems with getting this car (1991 lincoln town car) through inspection over the last 3 years, due to smoking because of emissions problems.the car had less than 100,000 miles on it when this problem started, and now has approximately 119,000 miles on it.this year, i have made 4 attempts to get the car to pass the inspection, however it has failed due to the same problem each time.i have taken the car to mechanics, and have been told that this is a manufacturers' defect with these particular cars.they state that the valve seals get hard because of a factory defect and need to be replaced.hardenedvalve seals allow oil to by-pass the valve seals and cause the cars to smoke.i feel that the manufacturer should replace the valve seals in my car, and correct this problem.i would like to keep this car, if you can please stop the smoking, it is a good car!thank you very much.

Approaching a traffic light realized i had no accelerator pedal.engine was running and i had brakes, i pulled the car off the road and it started to smoke, then flames. My wonderful lincoln was totaled.there was no indication that there was any problem.no lights went on the car never stalled.the fire department said they felt the line was burning, and i lost the accelerator because it was already on fire and burned through.i checked the recalls for 1991 lincolns and there was a recall for fuel lines, but not for my vin number. Therefore we never received a recall.
Consumer found a constant leak under vehicle. Took vehicle in for repair, and dealer found out that fuel line was corroded/ rusted and needed to be replaced, as well as the brake line. This caused the car to to fail to start, after repairs were finished the problem with starting the car was remedied.*jg

Repairs were done sometimes in the year 1992 and again in 1996.consumer was driving vehicle on the highway at approximately 65 mph when hood came unlatched and hit the windshield, causing a crack. Consumer believed this was a recall repair failure. Dealer notified and refused to repair unless cost is picked up by the consumer.

Consumer was driving when hood came open, owner had already had recall repair work done. Recall #91v147000. Failure caused damage to the windshield, vehicle only had 200 miles on it after recall work was completed.

As i was driving down the road the hood flew up and did damage to the windshield,top of the car,hood, and both front fenders.ttapproximately a year later, consumer received recall 91v147 regarding hood latches.
The contact owns a 1991 lincoln town car. The contact stated that while driving at 65 mph, the contact heard a loud noise and discovered that the hood latch fractured. As a result, the windshield cracked from the force of the hood and a bungee cord was used in order to keep the hood secured. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that nhtsa campaign number: 95v151000 (latches/locks/linkages) was previously performed. The failure mileage was 174,600.

Haldeman dealership repaired vehicle on 7-10-95 ,and will repair for second time on mar-12-98. These repairs were all done on the driver's side front seat.

Dt: the contact stated1991 lincoln town car had only 17,000 miles on it. On 8-25-05 he felt like his brakes were low. He went to have them inspected and the car passed the inspection,but he had the brakes changed anyway. He smelled the brakes burning that day as he was driving home from the garage. He parked the car in the garage ,and did not drive the car until about a month later when he smelled what he thought was the brakes burning again. When he got in todriveway, he saw fire under the wheels. He put the fire out with a fire extinguisher. Had he not had the fire extinguisher the car would have blown up. The garage that fixed the brakes said the caliper hung up and that was why the fire happened. Also, the consumer thought this may be a defect in the design of the brakes that would cause the car to catch on fire or did not fix the brakes properly. He called ford, and they told him that without a warrantythey did not know what they could do, and thenthey told him they would submit his complaint to the engineering department. The contact wasnot sure if the car had abs brakes because the car was a 1991 model. He thought it did but was not sure. He was the original owner of the car.

Rear suspension: rear suspension bracket broke on two occasions;4-11-96 right side and onjanuary 1997 the left bracket broke,causeing the vehicle to sway from side to side when turning. Took in for reepairs and dealer said it was anti-sway bar.

While driving, tire experienced a blowout, consumer lost partial control of the vehicle, hit a curb, damaged another tire and both rims, consumer was informed to go to the local goodyear dealer and have them to ship the damaged tires in order to be reimbursed, the claim was subsequently denied because goodyear stated they only received one of the damaged tires.(goodyear regatta p21570r15 tires)
After driving left rear tire was flat. Then, applied air and it went flat again. Takento technician where could not be fix it becausethe side walls wore out.next dayright rear tire was having the same problem, and had to be replaced. Lincoln, town car, 1991, p215/70r15, dot bem3nx71239.
We had a tread separation problem on this tire identical to the current firestone problem.the left rear tire blew out at highway speed while traveling on us 1 between florida city and key largo.fortunately the car was kept under control and no other vehicles were coming opposite on the two-lane road.the tire tread was pealed off.the car was towed back up to miami, to the firestone dealer.they said we must have hit something to cause the problem.the current firestone problem was unknown to us then, so we had to buy new tires (two to match).the car still has damage to the fender well.the same model tires are on the car now, and we have new concerns about them due to the current problem.this model tire hasn't been identified to me as problematic, but i read in our newspaper about someone having a tread-separating blowout also in a lincoln towncar with firestone tires.maybe there is awide spread firestone problem??we had never seen anything like the tread separation, and thought that was only a re-tread problem.please add these tires to the problem list and help us with our tire safety.thank you.( dot number: tire size: 215/70/r15 )

When stepping on brake to disengage the cruise control, driving (65) mph, the vehicle slowed down,but the cruise control would not disengage. This system reengaged once the driver took foot off brake pedal. The switch on the steering wheel had to be used to disengage system.

Approaching a traffic light realized i had no accelerator pedal.engine was running and i had brakes, i pulled the car off the road and it started to smoke, then flames. My wonderful lincoln was totaled.there was no indication that there was any problem.no lights went on the car never stalled.the fire department said they felt the line was burning, and i lost the accelerator because it was already on fire and burned through.i checked the recalls for 1991 lincolns and there was a recall for fuel lines, but not for my vin number. Therefore we never received a recall.

After putting vehicle into the drive gear, the throttle stuck, causing the vehicle to increase speed, resulting in an accident. Applied brakes, but they did not stop the vehicle from accelerating.

While attemping to shift to park, to shut off vehicle, it caught in reverse and continued to accelerate backwards, crashing into three more vehicles. Both airbag's experienced no deployment.
