Vehicle isn't accelerating properly whenconsumer is driving. Consumer had to pull off the road as another vehicle was coming straight at the consumer vehicle. In orderto avoid an accident vehicle ran over something, and the air bags on both sides didn't deploy.

Dt: the consumer stated:on 5-19-04 his 1990 lincoln town car burned while it was parked. Within a half of an hour the car was engulfed in flames.there were 3 different investigations done;. An electrical and and engineering investigation, and one done by the tampa fire departmentand found no exact fault. . he said there were a total of3 other cars totaled, and 4 others damaged during the fire. The hood melted away. The car had only 76,000 miles on it and had been well maintained. He did submit maintenance reports to the insurance company, and was not liable for the fire.

On april 23, 2001 our lincoln town car had been parked fro about ten minutes in an enclosed parking structure at supermarket when the engine compartment self-ignited. A major fire ensued but a passerby had called the fire department and the damage was limited to the total loss of our car. I have emailed lincoln hq repeatedly since then to ask if they had any record of this unusual and potentially lethal problem. Each time they replied saying that they could not answer technical questions. They referred me to the local dealer, whose service manager i had already spoken to, and who had never heard of the problem.i believe that there may be more to this?

The fire department appeared and the cause of the fire is still undetermined,.the dealer was contacted and state they are aware of the 1987-1988 models with this problem, but are not aware of the 1990 model havingany defects. The problem cannot be duplicated.
When driving and pressing on brakes they felt like they were locking up/got hard and tight. The vehicle would not accellerate. Hood latch assembly - on christmas day hood flew up into the windshield causing the windshield to get smashed, the hood was completely bent in half, and damaged was done to the roof.my family and i were terrified and i was very happy that my husband was driving.if he didn't drive i am sure this would have been a fatal car accident.as this happened, car swerved into lane to left and we were side-swiped by a van.the van did not stop, no one stopped.we were there for quite awhile but no police came.we just wanted to get home.other obvious damage was the drivers front end.took to salvage yard because we were not aware of the safety recalland that it was not done on this car.this car had no collision on it because it was "older"did finally report to insurance just to have on record.if we knew about the recall on this i wouldn't have been driving my 2 & 4 year old sons in this "safe" car.i would have done directly to dealer if i knew about recall.have tried going through dealer recently and calling lincoln's 800# to speak with their consumer affairs department.no one is claiming any kind of responsibility and yet in my mind we were almost killed.i never received a letter about the recall.only the previous owners apparantly received one.i'm sure lincoln would pay attention if someone was killed due to a safety recall.how can i get lincoln to make my car safe and reimburse me for money i did pay out due to this occurrence -- they won't even look at the part of the car that was recalled because i had gone to a salvage yard to have hood replaced, windshield replaced and front end drivers headlight replaced.

Shift lever does not shift to park. Gear shift was sloppy and would would up and down. Steering column was taken apart and the housing tube that holds the steering lever inside column had broken in half. The problem has been corrected.

The paint on this car is disappearing very rapidly.we owned 2 1990 town cars and had traded one over a year agao because the paint was starting to disappear.large blots of white are appearing all over the car.the cars were different colors and both did the same thing.only this one is really bad now.it looks polka dotted.since this happened to both cars of the same year i can't help but think this is a paint defect.so i would like to know if there is a recall for the paint or help available to have the car repainted.i can't believe that lincoln would want their vechiles to go down the road looking like it had been bombed by 5000 birds flying over.please let me know who i can contact to get some help.thank you.

While driving vehicle about 35 mph, the right front tire upper control bracket, rear mount, had fractured & loosened out of frame.(according to consumer), november 1995 vehicle. Affected 1993. 1994 models were recalled by manufacturer.

While sitting at a stop light the spare tire t125/80r16, dot fnta2xhx150 located intrunk of1990, lincoln, town car exploded.this explosion ofspare tire resulted in trunk of vehicle, raising 1 1/2 inches abovenormal level and a chunk of glass andrear view mirror, to fall fromfront windshield. Consumer was told by a michelin representative that age and temperature would cause a spare tire to fail, that they needed to be replaced periodically, one person was injured due to failure.

While driving at 40 mph, the car started accelerating.cruise control was not engaged, but was turned off to slow down.brakes were used to control speed until i reached a parking lot where i exmained the engine.problem seemed to be connected to throttle linkage. "jiggling" the throttle slowed the engine rpms to idle.problem occurred five more times before i could get the car to my mechanic.he cleaned the linkage, removed the intake and duct, and cleaned the valve and tb passages. He also reconnected a broken (down-shift) cable connector.problem has not recurred.

Sometimes while driving vehicle, smelled electrial wires burning, windows would lock up, air conditioner would stop, also the key cannot be removed from ignition switch, electrical wires seemed to short out.consumer states the problem appears to be in the ignition switch, a terrible noise was heard and consumer feels this was due to the switch engaged while the motor was running.

Hood latch assembly - on christmas day hood flew up into the windshield causing the windshield to get smashed, the hood was completely bent in half, and damaged was done to the roof.my family and i were terrified and i was very happy that my husband was driving.if he didn't drive i am sure this would have been a fatal car accident.as this happened, car swerved into lane to left and we were side-swiped by a van.the van did not stop, no one stopped.we were there for quite awhile but no police came.we just wanted to get home.other obvious damage was the drivers front end.took to salvage yard because we were not aware of the safety recalland that it was not done on this car.this car had no collision on it because it was "older"did finally report to insurance just to have on record.if we knew about the recall on this i wouldn't have been driving my 2 & 4 year old sons in this "safe" car.i would have done directly to dealer if i knew about recall.have tried going through dealer recently and calling lincoln's 800# to speak with their consumer affairs department.no one is claiming any kind of responsibility and yet in my mind we were almost killed.i never received a letter about the recall.only the previous owners apparantly received one.i'm sure lincoln would pay attention if someone was killed due to a safety recall.how can i get lincoln to make my car safe and reimburse me for money i did pay out due to this occurrence -- they won't even look at the part of the car that was recalled because i had gone to a salvage yard to have hood replaced, windshield replaced and front end drivers headlight replaced.
Windshield wipers cut on and off erraticly during rain storms. Lincoln cutomer service has been contacted.
