I own a 2004 lincoln navigator. I have had problems with the air bag suspension system since i have owned my vehicle. What happens is when it gets cold the system fails to operate causing the vehicleto drop down on the tires. Ripping them from under the vehicle, it destroys the tires and could very easily cause an accident. I have had to replace the tires many times due to this issue. This winter alone it has been in the shop at lease 6 or 7 times. This system is no longer in use on the new navigators. Ford has issued no recalls and will not assist me in getting this issue resolved. They said unless they are forced to deal with this by the nhtsa , i can no longer afford to spent thousands of dollars to resolve this issue which is clearly a mfg problem. Everyone i know who owns a navigator with this system have gotten rid of them. Mine is paid for and i can't afford another vehicle.
I bought my one owner carfax incident free 2004 lincoln navigator in april 2009 , in may 2009 i was driving down the highway and my side curtain airbags deployed almost causing me to wreck my vehicle, the truck was taken to the dealer where purchased , after waiting over a week the truck was returned with no explanation the only thing i was told was that it did not fall under warranty and they would not be willing to help. Left with no option, i am driving the vehicle as is, i was not given any information or warnings. While driving the vehicle again on 5/24 the drivers airbag fired but did not deploy, again almost causing an accident. I am currently taking the vehicle to get the airbags turned off.
While driving north on ar hwy 9 a few miles south of malvern, arkansas with my wife in the front passenger seat and my son in the second row directly behind me, a loud bang occurred.in the next moments i realized the side curtain air bags deployed on both sides of the vehicle, a smell like fireworks became immediately apparent, and the driver's side sun visor was destroyed and hanging down directly in front of me at an angle.i was able to maintain control of the vehicle and stay in my lane of the two-lane highway and slowed down.after shortly realizing what happened, i looked for a place to pull over, did so, and took my pocket knife and cut away the side curtain airbags to be able to see out of the side windows and continue our trip north.i found the driver's visor vanity mirror had shattered in pieces in my lap and on the floor, along with other parts from the visor which now hung down at a steep angle.both the driver's side and passenger side front seat belts were damaged, and the driver's seat belt upper anchor would no longer stay locked in position, sagging to its lowest position by gravity.later that day i discovered that the map lights and passenger side visor vanity mirror light no longer worked.i took the car to the local ford dealer near where i was staying, who told me that it (air bag system) was no longer covered by warranty.i then made an appointment with my hometown dealer to further resolve the issue, and also instigated a case with the lincoln customer relationship center to see if they would help.
I have a 2004 lincoln navigator, which i have owned since it was new.with the recent recall of f-series for defective airbag clocksprings, i am concerned that my navigator was not included.the airbag light came on two days ago, i cycled the ignition and it went off. Today it came on again and stayed on through many on/off cycles of the vehicle. I am concerned about inadvertent deployment issues from a possibly defective clockspring. Please help.
Vehicle was parked in a parking lot, driver was texting. Steering wheel airbag deployed for no reason. No bumps, no accidents. Upon changing airbag, found steering wheel airbag wiring had chafed against the horn mount ring, and grounded out, causing the deployment.
I was driving down a county road when the side airbags deployed with no collision or fast braking.i was approaching a stop sign and was coasting and had not applied the brakes when it occurred.
Airbags for now completely so does the air compressor cars without airbags went out brakes went out radiator went out completely the car is falling apart
The back air bags are not even 3 months i pit in the front.
I have a 2004 lincoln navigator and when it gets too cold the airbags have busted on me and the compressor. I have owned this vehicle for 2 years and 2 years in a row each winter my suspension has failed. My wheels are riding right under my tire wall and it is going to cause me to have an accident or cause further damage. At $1000 to fix these they should last longer than 1 year. Please look into this and recall our vehicles, the air suspension is supposed to provide a smoother ride not a rough winter.
While driving at 45-50 mph vehicle hydroplaned and crashed directly into a brick wall. Upon impact, both frontal air bags failed to deploy. Dealer was notified.
While driving down the highway at 70 mph, the side airbag curtains in our 2004 lincoln navigator deployed for no reason.we took the vehicle directly to the ford dealership and was told that the diagnostics ran on it showed that we had a collision that caused the airbags to deploy. Our insurance adjuster looked at the vehicle and found that there was no type of collision to have caused the airbags to deploy. The dealership insists that we hit something and chooses not to repair it. Instead, we were told that we had to pay for it; $6,000.00.
While driving my lincoln navigator down the highway my side airbags deployed almost causing an accident. I contacted the dealer where purchased 2 months ago, they came to get the vehicle that day. After keeping my vehicle about a week they contacted me and stated they would not fix the problem , i received the truck back today with both airbags hanging down and the warning light on, my husband and i were told we are on our own and they would not look into the problem, i do not know what to do about the problem, or if the truck will be safe to drive now or if the front airbags might deploy.

2004 ford navigator caught on fire while parked in the carport.*mrprior to the fire the consumer read and article about fire occurring in lincoln navigator due to faulty cruise control switch.the vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the consumer he had nothing to worry about.two week later the consumer's home and vehicle were destroy by a fire which started in the vehicle.
Faulty wiring that goes from the back of the vehicle to the fuse box. All the electrical stuff quit working in one moment. When i took it in to get looked at the mechanics said that the car was undriveable because it would catch on fire.
Driver power seat, pedal adjustment and mirror/folding mirrors not working due to faulty wiring. Wiring harness melts down to fuse box. Unable to repair wiring but to replace complete wiring system to fuse box .
The consumer went to start the vehicle but the battery was dead.the vehicle was jump started and about ten minutes later while the vehicle was still parked, the consumer smelled smoke in the area of the seat belt panel.within seconds of smelling smoke the consumer noticed a thick stack of whitesmoke coming from the drivers seat. The vehicle was towed to a dealer for inspection. The cause had not been determined at this time. The day before the fire the consumer smelled smoke but saw no visible signs of smoke or fire.the fire department stated that a module on the driver's side seat belt area had burned and due to an electricalissue the vehicle must have short circuited thus killing the battery supply.
Rear window wiperpower door locks gear shifter all went out.

The air suspension system has failed on my luxury 2004 lincoln navigator (124,000 miles). This appears to be a common failure for this vehicle based upon my online research.there are companies that sell kits to replace the entire system as it is apparent that not failing is not an option. Please see the strutmasters website (http://www.strutmasters.com/).this is an expensive repair/replacement and appears to be related to defective and unsafe parts. However there is no record of any recalls or change in the manufacturing process. Help!!!

The contact owns a 2004 lincoln navigator. The contact was driving 65 mph when the engine stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer confirmed there was an engine misfire. The manufacturer was contacted and the vehicle was repaired. The vin was unavailable. The failure mileage was 54,000 and the current mileage was 75,000.
For the past 6-8 months my vehicle has sporadically stalled/stopped for no apparent reason. When it stops like this it can occur on the highway or surface streets without notice. I have taken it to the lincoln dealer two times with the last time being told it was a transmission problem, which i was skeptical, because of no previous problems. I have requested assistance from ford motor who essentially dismissed without any liability due to the car being out of warranty. I am requesting your assistance before there is any injury, accident or fatality. I have the e-mail correspondence with ford.
Dt*:the contact stated while driving 70mph on the interstate, the speed decreased to 50mph followed by the illumination of the check engine light.the vehicle was seen by a dealer.the mechanic determined the vacuum module on the engine failed.the engine vacuum module was replaced by the dealer.
The number three spark plug on the passenger side of my 2004 lincoln navigator blew out.the car has 72000 mile on it and is excellent condition. This is defect, there should be more threads holding the spark plug in pace, this car uses aluminum cylinder heads, the manufactures design did not put enough threads in place for aluminum to hold the plug over the usable life of the car and engine.
Spark plugs ejected from cylinder head.
In nov 05 the car started to shut off momentarily as you started to drive, it would do it only when you would take off from a stop and never at freeway speeds. This would occur 50% of the time. The dealer had it on 11-7 and replaced the cam position sensor. When i picked it up on 11-8 it was worse than before. I returned it on 11-9 they returned it on 11-19 after replacing one of the coils. This helped but didn't solve the problem, still had the hesitation leaving a stop but only happened 2-3 times in the 1st week. In the 2nd week as i slowed down for a stop it shut completely off, when i put it in neutral , turned the ignition off and back on it started. It continued to hesitate at time when you were driving in city traffic but would not shut completely off. This past week the hesitations became more frequent and on tugs 5-16 it shut down totally in heavy traffic as i turned a corner.i delivered the car back to the dealer in the afternoon, he call and said nothing could be found and could one of the techs drive it home for a test drive, i agreed. He called and reported the car runs perfect and they can't do anything if they don't know what the problem is. The car now shuts off momentarily at freeway speeds and is very violent. The car once acted like it was running on 4 cylinders and slowed down to 30 mph, after pulling over on the freeway shutting the key off it work k again. Dealer still can't detect what is wrong in september 2006.
Dt*: the contact stated the vehicle had been at the dealer for two months for a catalytic converter replacement, however the parts were not available. Updated 12/18/06.
First week in december took 2004 navigator with 29,000 miles to dealership after hearing a veryclunkingsound. I was told it needed a catalytic converter. Dealership stated that it would take 2 weeks for part. I called lincoln to state my complain as to why it was going take so long and was told the warehouse that stored them burnt down. Too make a very tryingstory short it will be 2 months until i get my navigator repaired. The dealership told me that they were told by lincoln that the part has to be made and then tested beforethey ship it to thedealership. I have never heard of such a thing. I cannow understand why people are buying the imports and whyamerican car makers are hurting. I will not buy another lincoln again.
The running board intermittently failed to come out properly when either door was used. The consumer took the vehicle to the dealer on 5 separate occasions and was unable to locate the problem. Please provide any further information.
Unable to operate satellite radio and rear entertainment dvd simultaneously.this is a design flaw of the radio which has only one aux input for both systems.this means that the occupants cannot listen to satellite radio on long trips while kids watch a dvd.dealer did not infom buyer of this problem and ford has no solution.
Hid headlamp assembly.i have 2004 lincoln navigator and while my vehicle was under the manufacturers warranty they replaced the left hid assembly but they claimed it was not a recall.i am since out of the warranty and the rh assembly went out.now my research indicates that the recall was only to years 2003 in the navigator, but to 2006 in the expedition.the assembly is the same as the 2003 navigator but the "2004" is not covered. Why?

On 12-3-17 grant county sheriff's department officers responded to a call in swayzee, in reference an unresponsive toddler. A 20 month old who had fallen asleep in the third row of a 2004 lincoln navigator. The parents had gone to sweetser to help a relative move. Upon arriving at sweetser, the mother told the father she was taking "the baby" out to change her diaper. The father took that to mean their 20 month old; however the mother meant the 8 month old that she was babysitting. The father did not know his 20 month old had fallen asleep in the third row seat. He loaded items in a trailer and had three other items to fit. He pushed the buttons located in the back of the vehicle to fold down the automatic third row seats. The seats folded completely down and he loaded the items in the vehicle. They drove to swayzee where they realized their 20 month old was not around. The mother remembered her being in the third row seat. The father removed the items and raised the seats where he located the 20 month old unresponsive. Autopsy showed she died of suffocation due to compression on the chest. Reenactments were videotaped and photographed using a cpr doll 2 inches shorter than the 20 month old, the seats folded down flat all three times these were conducted. Our concern with the vehicle is the fact there was no sensors that kept the seats from completely folding with the child on the seat.

When applying the brakes to stop or slow down, there is a vibration in the steering wheel.
Lost of rear brakes due to the lack of a braking system where wear indicators (sensors or light indicators) were left off my 2004 lincoln navigator by the manufacturer.no sensors on theouter rear and front brake pads.this could have been a disaster for me and my wife if i was travel highway speeds on a road trip and the brakes suddenly failed without notice or warning.
I have a 2006 lincoln navigator with 99,000 miles on it. I noticed that there is a recall for the 2009 for an intermittent brake light failure problem. I have just begun to have this same problem on my truck. If i lightly brake none of the brake lights work but if i push the brake pedal all the way to the floor they all three come on.
2004 lincoln navigator was purchased august 30th 2004, on its first drive huston from dallas, the rotors heated and warped resulting in serious shimming issues, this was fixed by machining the rotors.second trip to vermont during christmas holidays from dallas, rootors warpped again and the navigator was shimming seriously, getting me and my family nervous throughout the 3300 mile round trip to east coast, driving on icy roads and through the mountains.dealership simply machined the rotors again, they admit that other 2004 models have had this issue but would not replace rotors.i believe that this is bad rotor batch that needs to fixed before family are seriously injured or killed.
There is a distinct shimmy in the steering wheel when decelerating from highway speeds.the shimmy progress' as time goes on. The rotors have been resurfaced twice and changed once.
The back air bags are not even 3 months i pit in the front.
The contact owns a 2004 lincoln navigator. The contact was driving approximately 15 mph when the steering column locked and then the steering wheel turned in the right position without warning. Suddenly, there was a loss of steering control and the vehicle traveled over a curb up an embankment. When the brakes were engaged the vehicle came to a stop. The vehicle was driven from the embankment and the identical failure reocurred. The vehicle was taken to a nearby independent mechanic for diagnosis. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they were unable to duplicate the problem. There were unrelated repairs performed on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000. The vin was unavailable. The contact had concern of the potential safety hazard.

Vibration in the front end. Has been in the shop three times. Twice the tires checked and one alignment. Nothing helped. Also the interior lights went out. Bought brand new and has only 6,000 miles.. Also the front bumper has water streaks on it that dealer says is manufacture problem due to no clear coat on it.
While driving, i noticed the steering wheel would vibrate and make a clicking noise whenever i drove over a bump or while turning.i took the car back to the dealer and they said it was a lubrication problem. They lubricated the steering shaft.the problem came back 2 days later.in addition, the steering wheel shook vigorously when applying the brakes.i took it back in and they sanded the rotors to fix the shaking problem, but did not do anything about the vibration when turning or going over bumps.

Consumer disappointed in the quality and performance of 2004 lincoln navigator.while driving 40 mph or higher the vehicle would vibrate while the windows were down. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who informed the consumer that the condition was normal.
The vehicle engaged in involuntary acceleration (in reverse) from stationary position right after shifting gears from parking 'p' to reverse 'r' and disengaging the parking brake. The brakes were being applied during this gear change. The car started moving in reverse as soon as the driver let off the brakes. The driver then reapplied the brakes but the vehicle accelerated instead of breaking. More pressure was applied to the brakes but that increased the speed instead of reducing it. The vehicle accelerated from 0 mph to approximately 50 mph and traveled about 100 feet in reverse. The driver was maneuvering the vehicle with the steering wheel while simultaneously applying pressure to the breaks. The driver managed to steer the vehicle up a small grassy hill of about 15 degrees in slope until the vehicle hit a residential concrete wall with the back of the vehicle. At the moment of impact, the vehicle bounced back and the acceleration disappeared with the engine still on. The vehicle then slowly rolled down the hill until it hit a parked car. At that moment, the car stopped and remained stationary. The engine was then turned off. The impact caused damage to the back of the vehicle and to the residential concrete wall. The driver's seat was also damaged. It became loose with the impact and was ejected backwards towards the back seat with the driver still on it. There were no physical injuries to the occupants other than whiplash. A firmware defect of the electronic throttle system is suspected.
Rear tailgate paint is bubbling.research shows that this is common flaw on ford/lincoln vehicles from 2000-2005.
Ford has failed to install insulation on the underside of the lincoln navigator hood therefore the heat has caused the hood paint and clear coat to bubble and peel.my hood has as many spots on it as a hormonal teenage boy has on his face.this issue has caused injury to the value of my car and my pride in owning this vehicle.many lawsuits have been filed and successfully won through several states, a nationwide recall needs to happen for this issue.

The contact owns a 2004 lincoln navigator. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle began to vibrate and jiggle severely. The contact mentioned that the front of the vehicle was lower than necessary. The vehicle taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the suspension failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2004 lincoln navigator. The air suspension on the front of the vehicle was not lifting up properly in order for the vehicle to drive without any incident. On cold days the suspension does not allow the front end to lift up; yet,the vehicle had to be warm or the temperature outside had to be warm. The vehicle was not taken to the dealership for inspection which was taken to three other service stations who performed a diagnostic test on the vehicle. The manufacturer was called and stated that there were no recalls or warranties stating that she had to pay for the repairs. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 132,500.
The contact owns a 2004 lincoln navigator. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the front end of the vehicle dropped and started to exhibit a loud, abnormal noise. The contact mentioned that the failure recurred four times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the air compressor failed and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who advised that they would contact him back at a later date. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 57,677 and the current mileage was 73,581.
My 2004 lincoln navigator dropped down on the drivers side front. I took it to a mecanic and he said it was the height sensor in the meanwhile while they ordered the part and a week later it got to the shop i drove it and of course with all the bumping around the front passenger side dropped now the lincoln really bounces i took it to the shop to get the sensor installed went back to pick it they tell me that wasnt the problem now my pump dont work and my front end is really low. Now im stuck with no suspension and something more than likely is going to happen either a blown tire because of the rubbing on the tire wall or a car accident. This is my daily driver back and forth to work i also am afraid to take my three children anywhere because of this. Im and employee of gm someone needs to do a recall this is a safety issue to the driver and other drivers as well.
When temperatures drop near or below freezing, the air suspension springs stop functioning at all. The valve that holds the air in the air bags gets frost on it and can't close anymore. This causes the suspension to ride on the rubber stops. The tires rub in the fender wells. The vehicle will eventually rub the tire to a tire failure. This will cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle and possibly crash.
Jan 2012 air suspension light came on after being in below 30 degrees on a trip. Car was bouncing and could not control it properly. Replaced air shock on rear. Nov 2013- same temps and same light and control problem. After the car reached a warmer temp.(south for 3 hours) it no longer bounced and was back to normal. Service shop could not find a problem. Dec 2013 another trip up north and same thing.and same service find. Nothing. Jan 2014 in a warmer temp. Light came on and bounce came back. Service shop said it looks like the compressor is going bad. This problem seems to me is a safety problem and should be recalled and repaired by ford (lincoln). It is dangerous and certainly makes the car uncontrollable.
The contact owns 2004 lincoln navigator. The contact stated that the front suspension failed and caused the front end to rest on the tires. The vehicle was taken to the mechanic for inspection, who advised the contact that the front suspension sensor failed. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer for repair, who replaced the front suspension sensor however, the failure recurred while the contact was driving 55 mph. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who advised that the air compressor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 90,100 and the approximate failure mileage was 91,000.

Help!!!
Car only has 120,000 and started to bounce, and lower during driving. Got diagnosed, with detached air linkage which were the front, paid $430, 2 months after the moter stopped completely, replaced motor, nearly$600, installed and didn't work, relay was the other problem, changed relay, worked for a week, and stopped comletely! bought another one, tried to install it but is not working, another $100 down the drain! my only option is coil spring converstion, to stop with all the electrical problems! lincoln should take more consideration in suspension, to make the car safe and driveable!
The contact owns a 2004 lincoln navigator. The contact stated that the rear air suspension had failed causing the rear end to bounce up and down and while driving a clanking noise was present coming from the front driver side wheel. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the front suspension arm was needed to be replaced and the rear suspension air bags needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 150,000.
Problem with the air suspension on vehicle.had it replace with less than 50 thousand miles on vehicle, added 12 thousand miles in less than a year and the air suspension is out again.
I let my driver glass up in down my glass have cracked badly something gone on
We have a 2004 lincoln navigator ( the second we have owned)the air suspension has never worked as well as the first navigator.the ride was very good for the first 50 thousand miles then when it was cold it would take a while for the air suspension to warm up and begin to work.in alabama it does not get that cold that many days but it was very uncomfortable on those days.finally the suspension just stopped working and the ride was terrible.took to the dealership and paid $98.00 for diagnosis.indeed the air suspension was leaking.could not give us a firm price since they would not know for sure if any damage was done inside the system.the range was from $1,200.00 to over $4,000.00.if i wanted to gamble like that i will go to the casino.after talking with several mechanics their recommendation was to install a regular suspension which cost us $850.00 including installation.car rides as good as it did and we do not have to expect the suspension to go out again.we have heard lots of stories about the same problem we had and have heard a lot of people that have had to replace the air suspension 2 times before they gave up.ford knows this is a problem and will not do a recall. One mechanic told us that the air suspension is the same one they use in the big ford suv and they never have problems with it.ford and the engineers need to solve this problem.at this time we will not purchase a third navigator even through i love the car.
Air suspension will not inflate on time when driving away.front air. Bag suspension deflatescompletely every time vehicle is turned off.i now have to buy my front wheel well covers due to this problem....car was in motion when this happened on a city street.
The contact owns a 2004 lincoln navigator.after the vehicle was purchased, it began to fail.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer for repairs.one month later, the suspension failed.while driving at an unknown speed, the trac indicator illuminated and the contact lost control of the vehicle.she pulled over and had the vehicle towed to the dealer.the vehicle was repaired for free.afterwards, the low beam headlights failed and the contact replaced them with two bulb mechanisms.the low beams continued to fail and the mechanic could not find any failures.the dealer stated that the wiring was not faulty, but they discovered that the ballets in the low beams were blown out.the parts were ordered and replaced by a mechanic.the bulbs blew out again within a month.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer and they kept it overnight to repair it again.through online research, the contact found complaints for failed ballets on his make and model vehicle.no one has been able to determine the cause of the failure.the failure mileage was 75,000 and current mileage was 98,000.
The contact owns a 2004 lincoln navigator. The front struts broke and the front end of the vehicle fell down, almost touching the ground. There was barely any suspension when the contact drove to an authorized dealership; the dealer replaced the front struts. The contact called the manufacturer and was informed that there were no recalls or warranty's on the vehicle. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000. The current mileage is approximately 70,000. Updated 10/28/10 the consumer was informed by ford, it was a known problem and they increased their warehouse supply in arizona t meet the demand. Updated 11/01/10
Lincoln navigator 04' has been having problems with air suspension when in cold weather under 30 degrees. Front fender touching tires. The suspension won't work at all. Air compressor was replaced, one of the sensors & a valve. Spent over $1000 on it trying to repair and nothing fixes the problem. I took it to the dealer 3 times already and the dealer doesn't find the issue as the computer does not give a code error message. This is not a reliable car. How can a car's air suspension work on the warm weather and not on the cold?was lincoln thinking about this when making this car? i have read online and there are numerous people having the same problems up north and quite a few on the city i live in.

The contact owns a 2004 lincoln navigator. While driving 70 mph, extra force was required to turn the steering wheel right and left, and the traction control warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to brill's auto sales (388 southampton rd, westfield, ma 01085, (413) 568-9487) where it was diagnosed that the steering shaft and drive axle needed to be replaced. The contact mentioned that he repaired the 4 wheel drive actuator himself. The vehicle was not completely repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 163,000.
I let my driver glass up in down my glass have cracked badly something gone on
The vehicle engaged in involuntary acceleration (in reverse) from stationary position right after shifting gears from parking 'p' to reverse 'r' and disengaging the parking brake.

Dt: the contact haddifficulty with the power seats memory setting/power-folding heated exterior mirrors, and the power-deployable running boards.theyworked intermittently.the power seats with memory setting had a memory function that should remain set at the driver's preference.however, it sometimes readjusted without warning.the power-folding heated exterior mirrors will not identify programmed positions.the power-deployable running boards will not automatically deploy when the doors were opened.the dealer reprogrammed the vehicle several times in an attempt to correct the problems.afterwards, theaforementioned continued to work intermittently.no further repairs have been made.
