I was driving into a parking lot when spontaneously both side airbags deployed causing me first degree burns and contusions on my forearm, face and chest. Also my daughter had contusions on forearm and head.

The right side front airbag ride suspension bag exploded while driving.

While driving in a parking lot a car pulled out in front of my 2003 navigator as i hit the brakesi felt my suv drop from the front. The tire skidded and i hit the car that was pulling out. After the accident my truck was never the same .it was taken to the dealership but they said the warranty would not cover it.i have a 40000 dollar truck just parked in the driveway for the past 6 months i know mechanics that can convert it to to springs suspension for about 400 dollars but that's not the point i paid top dollar for a piece of you know what.i drive a 2000 nissan with 170000 miles on it and haven't spend a dime on it besides tires

I was driving my 2003 lincoln ford navigator on july 3rd at approximately 3pm down us highway 52 near springfield south dakota on a flat stretch of dry road going approximately 55 miles per hour.for no apparent reason our airbags from the passenger and drivers side roof deployed with an explosion. In addition to almost wrecking the vehicle my son and niece and myself all received impact burns on our faces (not sure if it was from the explosion or the bags themselves) and hearing problems that have carried over to today (july 4th).if we would have been on any other stretch of road except flat-land i believe we would have upset and all been killed or injured severely.the airbags activated for no reason whatsoever...i think this needs check out because if it becomes an issue with this particular model lives will certainly be lost. Highly dangerous ..i'm surprised we survived it.

On sunday june 27th 2010 at approx. 4:30 pm. My wife and 2 children were traveling to palm springs on the east bound 10 fwy in banning when, for no reason the side curtain airbags went off hitting myself and my 7 year old. I was able to remain in control of our 2003 lincoln navigator, and pull to the center median as i though maybe we were hit by something. As i looked around the navigator, there was absolutely no sign of damage or being hit by any kind of debris. I had to cut the airbags away to see and get to a safer place to check on my crying children. I was relieved that they were not injured visually, but we are having there ears checked for damage from the load noise. We dropped the vehicle off to our local dealer and they said that the crash sensor went off and that we should contact our insurance. Our insurance said it is a manufactures malfunction and to contact the head quarters of ford and lincoln. After the run around there, they said it was an insurance issue because the crash code was signaled. We are now on the hook for $3500-4000 for repairs and feel that it was either the crash sensor malfunction or the airbag sensor malfunction. The dealer will not repair because the crash code and the insurance does not want to open claim because there was not an accident. This is very dangerous and i feel if it was not for the child seat deflection some of the airbag, my 3 year old would sustained injuries. Ford-lincoln does not want to deal with issue.

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln navigator. The contact stated the suspension was also defective and the air bags were deflating.the dealer stated the air bag for the suspension needs to be replaced.the failure mileage was 76,000.

I purchased my vehicle brand new in january of 2003. I have had numerous problems with the vehicle since day 1.the entire computer had to be changed. The truck stalled on me at highway speed. It took over 2 1/2 weeks to get my vehicle back.here is a list of the other problems i have had. The rear vent motors have been changed . I had my windows stuck open with half of my electical system out for over four days due to the problem. The side view mirror motor had to be changed. The power running boards have never worked properly and the dealer can't find the problem. All four wheels had to be changed due to peeling. A new alternator had to be installed which left my vehicle dead without warning. The cd changer had to be replaced. The entire navigation system had to be replaced. The coil had to be changed three times. Which once again died at highway speed on me. I was nearly hit by a semi truck from behind. I thought for sure that my family and i were going to be seriously injured.it is at the dealer right now getting looked at. Twice while being at the dealer for service, my vehicle was hit needing repair. The list goes on. As you can say my vehicle is at the dealer more than it is at home, where it should be. Most of the problems tie my vehicle down for more than a week. I am fed up and tired of all the problems. I don't feel comfortable driving such an unsafe vehicle. I know it will stall again on me. Hopefully there will be no injuries or fatalities due to such an unreliable vehicle.

While driving at 45 mph, the vehicle experienced a complete electronic shutdown causing the steering to become inoperative and brake problems.the vehicle had come to a rolling halt.the lincoln dealership was unable to assure repairs or explain the cause and effect of the malfunction.*scc*tc

My 2003 lincoln navigator has shut down completely three times in the last 6 weeks. Two of the occasions happened on the interstate while driving about 55 mph, the third instance happened in my subdivision driving less than 30 mph. After pulling the truck over to the side for safety the truck will not start immediately but will start after resting about 7 minutes. When the truck shuts down several lights on the dashboard light up. I explained the issue as well as i could to my local ford / lincoln dealership in madison, tn but they could not find any issues with it saying that no codes were showing. I also took the truck to a goodyear service repair in brentwood, tn but they also could not diagnose the problem. After searching for this type of issue on the internet i found numerous customers that have had a similar experience, some saying that the issue is related to the "fail safe" security option kicking in while a person is driving.the issue of having my truck shut down completely on the interstate is dangerous and i would appreciate help on getting the issue resolved as soon as possible.

Vehicle was purchased at marshall bros in new orleans, vehicle was sold as a certified vehicle. Vehicle had to have a new transmission installed 2 months after vehicle purchased. Vehicle was sold with the problem known to dealership. Worker at location stated they knew it and when we purchased vehicle, they insisted on us buying an extended warranty since it was used. Insisted to the point of giving policy at cost, this was due to known problem, transmission case and unit was so badly damaged that it could not have been missed. Previous owner contacted and stated they told dealership of problem. Also since vehicle was owned electrical system has gone haywire, battery not charging periodically, alarm and lights operating on their own, lights staying on, coming on at night, radio staying on dealership stated they couldnot find anything wrong when brought in for issues, they keptvehicle for three days. Happened several more times, same statement by dealer. I researched problem on internet and discovered tsb's on same problems, but no recall. But tsbs have existed since 2004, dealer knew windshield leaks into computer and moonroof can leak causing same problem, dealership didn't fix anything, then when out of warranty dealership states known issue and fuse panel needs replacing at cost of $4,000 . This should be a recall after my research and since the dealerships are doing everything they can including lying and selling vehicles with known problems. Bbb was contacted and in process of having press involved. Please look at all complaints on issue and make a recall necessary. This is a dangerous problem, vehicles wrecking, putting drivers in dangerous situations.

Loss of brake fluid, leaked through to cruise deactivation switch into cruise systems and electrical components causing corrosion which caused a short.had trouble with cruise control working over time lead to higher flow of current that overheated and caused fire at switch under hood.ford speed control deactivation switch fire.the fire originated in the area where the speed control deactivation switch is located (left rear corner of the engine compartment at the master cylinder.there was evidence of speed control deactivation switch failure prior to the fire including inoperable speed control, repeated difficulty shifting out of park.

While drivingvehicle experienced computer electronic system shutdown. The consumer referenced 10044144 a previous claim filed about the same problem.the consumer lost power steering and power brakes while traveling at a speed of 70 mph.*tc

Automatic running boards had delayed deployment or wouldn't deploy at all. *ph the consumer was exiting the from the rear seat when the boards did not deploy but as she stepped out of the vehicle it deployed striking the consumer in the back of her legs. *sc

The consumer experienced ongoing problems with 2003 lincoln navigator electrical system. *mr

My roof-mounted dvd player has never worked but still makes noises when car is crunk up or switched off, my battery all of a sudden went dead (car would not crank), headlights have shorts in them...after replacing$100 bulbs, i found out if i turn the lights off and back on, the bulb will come back on, check park assist light and alarms come on every time the vehicle is put in reverse, and my suspension will not let the vehicle up when the weather is cold.

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln navigator. Whenever the brake were applied the vehicle would vibrate and shake excessively. There were several electrical failures to include the electronic cluster in the odometer. The manufacturer was contacted and advised her to take the vehicle to the dealer to have the failures repaired. The failure and current mileages were 30,000.

Bought a 2003 navigator used in january of 2007.ever since then, the vehicle has been experiencing electrical problems as in windows go up when you push down, the electronic liftgate doesn't always work, the rear electronic seats don't always work, the odometer reads 0 miles to empty when i have a full tank, front air suspension has gone twice now due to an electronically sensor, power locks haven't worked.

The retractable power running boards on my 2003 lincoln navigator intermittently fail to deploy and/or retract.as a result of the failure to deploy, i fell while exiting the vehicle, hitting my head on the ground, injuring my lower back (lumbar)in two places and fracturing my (thoracic) spine at t-12. I've researched this on line and found several others vehicle owners who have the same problem with the running boards. I'm told that ford has a service bulletin #17249 that describes the malfunction. Ford and the dealer have been unable or unwilling to repair my vehicle.i have left it with the dealer for repairs numerous times, twice one of the running boards was stuck in the outer position at the time it was left for repair. I have met with the factory engineer on two occasions. I have made numerous complaints and telphone calls to the lincoln customer servicehotline and met with smithtown lincoln mercury's previous and current service managers. A dangerous condition exists. Hopefully you will take an interest and force them to take whatever action is required to correct the malfunction before others also sustain serious injuries.*sc

Dt*: the contact stated while traveling various speeds, the vehicle hesitated.the dealership rebuilt the automatic transmission, but this did not repair the problem.the vehicle was taken back to the dealership and the gear shifter assembly was replaced.then the automatic transmission control valve was replaced.the vehicle has not been driven since the last repair was made.the consumer stated the vehicle stalled between 20 and 40 mph.the door lock switch was inoperative, the mirrors would not return to their orignal setting. Updated 10/27/06.

While driving 70 mph the vehicle would suddenly shut down.this problem has occurred four times.the vehicle would losepower steering and power brakes.the service dealer tried various fixes but the problem remained the same. *sc

I was driving down driveway and hit the memory seat button my my naviagator and the seat started to move forward and kept going forward until it reached the very farthest it could go forward.the lights inside were going crazy and the outside mirrors kept going up and down and acting crazy.i took the vehicle in on 8/20 and they found 7 electrical faults with the vehicle.on august 25, 2003, found out i had been carrying triplets but lost two and am now pregnant with one.do not know if that was related or not.on august 30th the back liftgate is supposed to have senors in it and almost shut and trapped me in it.luckily i got out unharmed.scared to think what might have happened if it were one of my other children.the vehicle is currently sitting in a bay at the service dept.ford told them not to work on it and i have no idea what is going on with it.

Consumer states while driving at highway speeds the truck completely shut down.cause is unknown.consumer was able to restart.took to lincoln they stated a fuse had blown due to a rod that had been installedbeneath arm rest. Consumer states fuse shorted out.please provide any further information.nlm

This is the fifth (5th) time in 6 years i have brought my car in for repair of the air suspension (compressor, ride height) , all but one of those times was to the ford lincoln dealership.it is clear that ford is aware of the problem as there are 10 service bulletins on the 2003 air suspension alone, as well as hundreds of complaints on the internet (see complaints on edmunds, even fords website and several car forums.these are of the lincoln navigator only, not its equivalent ford expedition, which also has hosts of complaints.)many of the complaints state, much like my experience, that the dealer cannot even figure out the problem. It is impossible to describe to you the danger involved when the suspension fails, especially at highway speeds.the car bounces violently and becomes totally uncontrollable.

Coming home from a trip engine started to misfire. Come to find out the # 3 spark plus exploded destroying the coil and and threads holding the spark plug in. Causing the need to re tap the threads.

We were driving down the highway at approximately 70mph, when i heard a loud pop and clanking noise on the driver's side front engine area. I was driving with my whole family in the suv. We were able to still drive it to a mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed it as a "blown-out spark plug". He said the spark plug had come out of the engine block. He said it is a common problem on that engine and there was a spark plug kit for it. He used the kit, and it only held for about 2 months. It now has lost power, shakes, and poor gas mileage. The repair kit obviously is not ample for this problem.

Just driving in a 45 mph, when heard loud banging coming from engine. Pulled over and had car towed in for repair. Engine blew out a spark plug.

2003 navigator, 99,000miles - spark plug blew out - engine lost power, gas spilling out of engine, during the transport of 1 adult and 4 children.1. One week prior to the incident, the truck was given a full service for 100k miles, less then 1000 miles later, the car is rendered inoperable, and the dealer offered to give $2500 on trade (the amount of the 100k service) or repair the engine for $5500.2. Car does not run3. Nothing is fixed yet, ford will not admit a problem and will not assist the dealer.

I own a 2003 lincoln navigator with the 5.4 liter engine and i have an oil leak coming from both back corners on each of the cylinder head gaskets. My mechanic shop did research and found that during this year of 2003 the gaskets could of been damaged during installation at the manufacturing plant. I feel like this issue needs to be addressed and for ford motor company to issue a recall on this matter.

Ibought a used 2003 lincoln navigator with a big 5.4-liter v-8 engine from wittmeier ford in chico, ca. In 2004. The navigator looked like a great deal. The price was $43,000. The navigator had only 23,000 miles on the odometer. But the great deal blew up in my face when the used lincoln navigator spit a spark plug at 81,000 miles. The check engine light came on as the truck began to lose power. As we drove the car it continued to back fire. The ignition pack for that plug was shredded. I called wittmeier service and they said they knew nothing of the problem. The threads in the number 3 spark plug hole in the navigator were stripped. We needed to re-thread the number 3 spark plug hole and replace the ignition pack.i read on the internet where this is a common problem and it will likely happen again. I believe ford should take care of this problem.

While driving vehicle stalledfour times on the highway. Also, vehiclehad problems with getting the gear out of park. Contacted the dealer. The problem recurred.

Without warning the vehicle stalled while the consumer was driving at an undetermined speed.the consumer contacted thedealer on four separate occasions and the problem still continued.when idling the vehicle made a pressure like noise that would get louder, the low oil indicator light would come on, the valves had a tapping sound that was abnormal, there was a metal scraping sound which as if the bottom was going to drop out, there were exhaust noises along with a popping sound, and there was continuous stalling. *scthe consumer stated there was an ongoing dispute regarding the odometer reading.also the brakes and door locked never worked.

My 2003 lincoln navigator ultimate @ 84,000 milesblew 2 spark plugs through the aluminum head of the 5.4 liter triton engine.it is my understanding that this aluminum head has been redesigned by ford and that there is also an after-market fix to this increasing problem that re-threads the spark plugs, but that said fix also gets forced through said inadequately engineered aluminum head.for refuses to pay for the replacement of said head and said repair is estimated in the thousands of dollars.i replaced the melted coil and barely was able to thread new plugs into place, but i am concerned about being stranded somewhere in my car.i think that ford should have to recall all of these engines and replace the old heads with new, better engineered heads.

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln navigator. While driving at 35 mph, the check engine light illuminated. When the contact depressed the accelerator pedal, the vehicle would not move forward but then after a few seconds, suddenly take off. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the contact was informed that the failure was caused by a vacuum leak. The coils and spark plugs were replaced but the failure occurred a day later. The failure reoccurred twice but had not occurred since. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000. The current mileage was approximately 118,000.

On 7/31 i had a tire pressure system fault error and took in for problem to be fixed.on 8/17 while driving vehicle i was shoved into steering wheel as far up as it would go and mirrors were going crazy on outside.i 'm three months pregnant and i already lost 2 of the 3 triplets i found out on 8/25.not sure if this is why or not.on top of that had another tire pressure system fault error.they put on machine and found 7 error codes and said they fixed, if it happened again to bring it back.on 8/30 the lights went nuts, the back liftgate almost crushed me in it.luckily, i got my head out from the bottom just in time before gate closed.the sensors/electrical system were not working.this is major to me, if one of my children had been back there and didn't think fast enough - i cringe to think that they would have been killed.i have a case open with ford right now as we speak.i'm so scared to get this vehicle back because that lift gate could have killed me and what if i get this back and they fix these 5 electrical problems they are working on now and then i find out the hard way that there are more.it seems they fix one problem and i have more.it's like one fix and it triggers more.please assist me anyway possible.i researched and according to ohio law they have one opportunity to fix the liftgate and if it doesn't then it is a lemon.however, i'm afraid they aren't going to be able to fix the electrical mess in this vehicle.all i want is my purchase price back.i'm paying over $1000 a month on this vehicle (which is more than my rent) and this is the most expensive car i have ever purchased and it is also the most dangerous.please help.sincerely, [xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln navigator. The contact was driving 35 mph when he discovered that the headlights were abnormally bright. The contact was unable to adjust the lamps and the vehicle was taken to the dealer where they were unable to provide any assistance. The manufacturer was contacted who also offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 112,000.

Hi i was wondering the inside pass. Door handle we went to open it and the handle broke in half, well for 1 cant believe it was made of cheap plastic for the price you pay for the truck and 2 what would happen if there was an accident and the handle broke etc.

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln navigator. While attempting to shift, the transmission failed to shift into the park position. The contact stated that the driver had to engage the emergency brake in order to prevent the vehicle from rolling away. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 158,000.

Gear shift knob came loose. Causing the vehicle to be locked into the drive position. Could not use reverse, neutral or park. I could not shift the vehicle out of the drive. Dealership tells me that the whole assembly needs to be replaced.

The contact owns 2003 lincoln navigator.the contact stated that while standing outside of the vehicle, the vehicle started to roll backward. The engine was off and the transmission was in park. The contact ran to catch vehicle and was injured from a fall. Driver suffered sprained angle, body bruising.the vehicle crashed into another vehicle. A police report was filed.the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic.the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem.the approximate failure mileage was not available.

While shifting the transmission would down shift on its own.driver heard a clanking sound. Driver took vehicle to the dealer, andmechanic determined that the problem could not be duplicated.

Dt: the contact stated thatvehicle was difficult to shiftfrom park. The transmission was making a clanking sound. Whenstarting up the engine it made a strange noise. After the engine was running for a while the noise went away. The vehicle has been to dealership about six times for the same problem. The dealershipwas unable to make a diagnosis.

While driving vehicle stalledfour times on the highway. Also, vehiclehad problems with getting the gear out of park. Contacted the dealer. The problem recurred.

The transmission shift interlock has failed - effectively leaving the vehicle stuck in park while maneuvering the vehicle from a stopped position and attempting to move forward.this is the second time this has happened.luckily, it was not in an emergency situation where we needed to move right away as indicated by a previous poster.for some reason, the transistor in the transmission shift interlock fails, effectively leaving the vehicle in park.as there is not a safety override switch that is handy, or a slot to put a key in the console to override the interlock - you are basically stranded.per the owners manual, you have to remove a portion of the console with a screwdriver (potentially damaging it) and manually push a lever - in order to move the vehicle.this is rather dangerous, and i am now on my third one - there are no modifications to this vehicle.

The transmission shift interlock failed on this 2003 lincoln navigator.when it failed, it could have impacted the safety of both its passengers and the passengers of others around it, as it was in an intersection.

We have a 2003 lincoln navigator. On june 17, 2010 while driving on the 605 freeway, we heard a loud noise and the car started to shake tremendously then loose power. The car is still running but could not pick up speed. A huge mack truck behind us was braking hard to avoid hitting our car. We pulled to the side with the car shaking and rattling. Luckily, it had enough power to make an exit. A private auto mechanic at auto shop artesia found that the spark plugs had blown and completely damaged the cylinders head. Mechanic stated that he had seen this many times on ford vehicles. Mechanic insists that vehicle must be tow to ford dealership for extensive major repair. Mechanic recommends not driving the vehicle as it may ignite in flames due to fuel leak. When car arrived at cerritos ford dealership, lead technician confirmed that it is a blown spark plugs issue which damaged the cylinders head. Repair bill is quoted at $4,500. Cerritos ford also confirmed that this is an a known defects on ford vehicles and can not assist with repair cost due to the fact the ford motor company unable to compensate dealership for this type of repair.we contacted ford motor company and they refused to assist with this matter. My cash reserve is for my son's monthly school tuition. I can not afford to have the expensive repair. Please someone help us. This is a known defect on ford vehicles, but we are not getting any assistant from ford regarding this matter.

Dt: while making a right turn off on an exit, the vehicle went out of control, the front driver's tire rolled off, then the tie rod snapped and the consumer was trapped. The consumer hit a guard rail. No other vehicles or people were involved.the consumer stated that tire or tie rod was so hot that as it rolled into the grass it caught on fire. Tire was retrieved. Problems with rear differential prior to the accident.the vehicle was regularly serviced. The consumer was slightly injured in the accident. Police report filed.

Dealership replaced the motor and the computer ofdriver's seat that was too loose and moved back and forth while driving, causing a distraction to the consumer.6 months later, consumer experienced the same problem. The vehicles brakes squeaked, the door panel was loose, the side mirror motor failed.there was a rattling noise coming from the rear center console and there was a loud humming noise from the passenger dash in cold weather.the gear shifter broke while driving.the original windshield wiper left a black smear on the window when it rained which made itdifficult to see.the front door molding warped.the consumer no longer wasn't the vehicle and has requested a refund.

My car is 2003 lincoln navigator.one of the 2nd row seat (behind the driver side) has a defective seat belt (the connector is in the wrong direction, so i need to twist the seat belt in order to secure the seat belt).i have brought my car to the dealer (still under warranty) and the dealer stated that it is normal and it is on other navigator too.the dealer refused to fix the twisted seat belt.

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln navigator. The contact stated that the driver's seat failed to adjust and could not be moved forward. The metal bar for the driver's seat fractured and the seat became locked in place, which was abnormally far from the steering wheel. As a result, the contact was unable to reach the steering wheel or the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that the metal bar adjuster for the driver's seat failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired.the failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 81,000.

My wife drove our 2003 lincoln navigator to work and all was fine, when she went out to go to lunch she started the vehicle and pressed the brake pedal and it went almost all the way to the floor.the brake pedal was normally mushy, but this is unsafe and she asked me to take it for the rest of the day.i checked it out and the pedal, although it goes almost to the floor now, still applies brakes, just at a much greater distance than what has been normal.this condition is extremely unsafe, if this had occurred during driving an accident would most surely have occurred, possibly serious.i have a friend at work who said her husband was having the exact same issue with their 2005 lincoln navigator.the dealership replaced the master cylinder and it didn't fix it, after much complaining the dealership replaced all the components of the brake system because they didn't know what the problem was, this has seemed to fix it for the last 3 months.i read on the following site similar complaints, but both ours and my friends occurs at all speeds not just below 30 mph but much higher, as some of the forum have reported. Please read the following thread.http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/direct/view/.f1666e3/0if it is as some of the people have reported on this forum that the problem is the abs speed sensors, i as an engineer and car enthusiast, can't believe someone would design a vehicular breaking system that if the abs sensor failed, the default would be to provide almost no breaking action at all. This is extremely dangerous and should be investigated.i am trying to determine how to repair this problem currently, so i believe i will look into replacing the speed sensors as a place to start.their are no vehicle codes present in the computer.

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln navigator. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph the front and rear suspension failed and caused the vehicle to bounce abnormally. While turning the steering wheel he could feel the body of the truck touch the tire. The abs lights illuminated on the instrumental panel prior to the failure. The vehicle was inspected and repaired in april 2008 and had not been inspected for the current failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.updated 5/9/11

While applying the brake pedal consumer heard a loud squeaking noise. Vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, andmechanic determinedthat brake pads needed to be replaced, and replaced them.two months later, while driving 10 mph, vehicle vibrated uncontrollably, and consumer heard a loud knocking noise coming from the front.vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection, butthe cause of the problem was not determined.

When backing up in driveway, 2003 lincoln navigator accelerated extremely with wheels "peeling" and car would not brake.car came to rest after glancing off a tree and ploughing over columns in front of home.car would not start subsequently.

Dt: while making a right turn off on an exit, the vehicle went out of control, the front driver's tire rolled off, then the tie rod snapped and the consumer was trapped. While driving 20 mph front tie rod collapsed, causingconsumer to lose control of the vehicle. Vehicle was towed to the dealership for inspection.

Power side step bars rotten with rust, we can no longer step on them because they will break off completely then we will have a bigger problem.

Passenger side mirror does not work properly, radio cover has marks on it where it retract into the dash, kick plate inside of the driver's side door is broken, all four doors external patterns are loose, and the front console lock is broken.*mrthe door ajar light illuminated continually after being repaired three times.

My 03 lincoln navigator has been having problems with the power running boards on the driver side.after car is started the running board remains deployed and will not return to the "in" position until vehicle has exceeded more than 5mph.the running board will go in and out every time the vehicle comes to a stop.the problems temps to be worst on hot days. I have not done anything to fix the problem yet, but after researching and reading some blogs about lincoln's 03 navigator i sawthat there is a lot of other navigator owners that are or had experienced the same problem.when the running board does not go in, it makes the air suspension not inflate as it should.this makes the vehicle feel like if it is heavier than it is and at time making it hard to handle on the road.with this i have noticed that since the suspension is not running ok the car feels like if its dragging, which puts extra stress on the tires, wearing out the tires faster than it should.

The driver had a hard time reading the dashboard panel.the dealer was aware of the problem.the lights on the dash were too dim to read in bright sunlight and visible in the shade.this problem caused the consumer to miss the "door ajar/tailgate" for thirty minutes which allowed exhaust fumes to enter the vehicle. *scc

We bought a 2003 lincoln navigator from a local dealer and about a month to late noticed water leaking from the sunroof and front handle of the passenger side of the vehicle. Thought it was coming from the front windshield, because the gasket was kind of warped .firstwe sealed it up with silicone, so we thought the problem was solved until we noticed more water leaking.by this time it was to late. On the way home from the store noticed a buzzing sound .guess what the electrical board is fried . I always wondered ifwe're the only one but im quite sure we're not . This is a poorly designed piece of car. There has to be some way in determining how to fix this water leak.but nobody knows anything. Why isn't their a recall for this problem.

2003 lincoln navigator - loose front door trim panels - rattles occurs at speeds greater that 50 mph. Dealer inspected panels, but insisted that loose panels were normal conditions.symptom identical to nhtsa complaint number 10005562.

Rattles in both front door trim panels - occurs at speeds greater than 45-50 mph.have had vehicle unsuccessfully in for repairs four times.have replaced door panels without resolution of problem.latest service date is listed below.

Door rattles and wind noise occurs when driving at hoghway rated speed. This is the same issue as complaint#'s: 10062258,10005562,10028646.

Power deployable running board on the passenger side did not extend out (deploy) when the door was opened to exit the vehicle.the passenger stepped out of the vehicle and fell to the ground.the board has not deployed since this incident.taken the vehicle in for repair and parts (motor) are not covered by extended warranty.same problem happened around 40k miles.dealership replaced both running board assemblies.

This is a common problem that needs to be fixed it's all over the internet. The suspension system on these are always messed up please fix this.

The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, a loud roaring noise was heard from the front passenger's side of the vehicle. The contact inspected under the hood and detected that the noise was coming from the air lift compressor. The noise could also be heard when the vehicle was stationary. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 65,319.

Total air suspension failure.

Suspension relay fails then compressor fails now it still will not fill and hold as it should right front dips dangerously low no real fix or relief in sight.

Suspension problems in my 2003 lincoln navigator.

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln navigator. The contact stated that the air bag warning lamp illuminated. Also, a "check the suspension" message illuminated indicating that the rear shocks failed to work. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who indicated that the passenger side running board switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to an authorized dealer several times; however, the technician was not able to replicate and diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000.

Can you check out 03 lincoln navigator air suspension because my keeps failing compressor and height sensor causing rough rides checked online seems like alot of people have same problem like me too.

The right side front airbag ride suspension bag exploded while driving.

I bought my used 2003 lincoln navigator in 2008. A year later, air suspension failure happened several times.both in city and on highway - various speeds - but the scariest and most dangerous was when it happened on the highways.caused vehicle to lose all suspension and drop extremely low. The navi bounced dangerously and violently even at very reduced speeds.it also caused the navi to scrape the ground on a few occasions. Had it repaired three times@ $500+ and was finally told that i needed to replace all four @ appx $2000+!!i was also told that this is a known problem with navi's. In order to save my time, money and sanity, iopted for spring-suspensions at a third of the cost and have not had any problems with those in over 4 years!i highly recommend the spring-suspensions and stop the insanity.

Consumer states is having trouble with front and back suspension.when coming out ofdriveway vehicle bottoms' out. Also, while driving can feel every bump.vehicle is suppose to be designed to absorb bumps. He has takenvehicle to the dealer/mechanic 4 times, and each time they have done minor repairs. Finally consumer was told that they knew the problem, butcould not fix it.dealer had called the engineers from the lincoln manufacturer to take a look atvehicle and see if they could repair it.

2003 lincoln navigator ultra high speed wheel shimmy.original wheels replaced by dealer due to out of round defect.wheels rebalancedw.heel shimmy reduced but not eliminated.

A year and ahalf ago, the navigator began to make strange growling noises when it was parked under the garage.some days when i would try to get into the car, it was high off the ground, other days it would be extremely low. The entire suspension went out on our 2003 navigator. It cost me over $700 to have it repaired.this is my only transportation, so i had to borrow a car for a week to get to work.now, it is out again!because of the last experience, i had been doing a system check periodically.the check always said, "suspension ok". Well, two weeks ago,i began to notice the car seemed to lean to the rightor lean forward when parked. Finally, last week my husband said, the car was riding like a bouncing buggy - the suspension is gone again! this is the second time and i cannot afford to have it repaired. It is the only transportation we have for getting to work. And i'm still paying on a car that i cannot ride.

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln navigator. The contact stated the air suspension system disengaged and the vehicle began to shake violently whenever he drove over a bump in the road. The failure occurred while driving at various speeds. The contact noticed that the suspension system was disengaged while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer at least ten times to be repaired. The failure continued to occur. The contact also stated that the failure occurred more frequently during cold weather. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.

2003 lincoln navigator air suspension sensor failure at highway speed. Caused vehicle to lose all suspension and drop as low as it would go, providing no suspension. Truck bounced dangerously over the road while attempting to decrease speed and remain within lane.

The suspension in my 2003 lincoln navigator has gone completely out.the estimate to get it fixed is over $1000, but cannot repair because i have been laid off for over a year.being as how this defect is so widely affects this make and model vehicle, it should be investigated as a possible recall.a typical car driver should not have to be expected to pay for an obvious engineering defect.we're talking about the entire suspension system failing with one component going out.

I have a 2003 lincoln navigator .i bought it in staten island ny dana motors 2 years ago i have had it in there shop for suspension censors and bags over 10 times my warranty expired 30 days ago and guess what my rear suspension went out .i contacted ford over 10 times and i want to say that this has to be the worst truck and company i have ever had to deal with ford found on road deadgo gm.

Air suspension motor had to be replaced at around 100,0000 miles. Also air bags leak and are slow to air up in cold weather.mechanic said need to replaced.

Suspension system rises and falls while driving or parked.the first incident the front right side would not raise up and made driving hazardous.this last incident the rear went up and will not come down.the vehicle can hardly be held in the road when this happens.several complaints of this problem have been listed on the internet.

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln navigator. The contact stated while driving 35 mph the vehicle shut off without warning.the contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer regarding the electrical system and they stated the entire fuse box needed to be replaced. The contact stated the suspension was also defective and the air bags were deflating.the dealer stated the air bag for the suspension needs to be replaced.the failure mileage was 76,000.

I own a 2003 lincoln navigator, over the past two years my truck has primarily sat in the garage, the suspension went out two years ago, we were told the compressor needed to be replaced, we did this to the tune of $599.00, after the compressor was replaced my truck ran okay, it never seemed quite the same, after almost 5 months the compressor went out again, this time we were told it needed a new compressor and air bags and would cost aprox. $1,300.00 and could cost more if other suspension issues were discovered, we cannot afford to have repairs done due to several reasons financially, this is my only vehicle and it cannot be driven, the body of the truck sits so low, we've been told it looks like we may have axel damage from the improper distribution of body weight on the vehicle due to the suspension being out.our local lincoln dealer (aprox. 20 miles away) said we need to bring the vehicle to them to have it looked at?, our truck is not drivable, i attempted to drive itto the dealership and got about 2.5 blocks from our home and had to turn around and go back home, the violent bouncing and rocking gives a whipping movement that caused my head to continuously hit the head rest very hard, this causing great back and neck pain, not to mention cause for alarm on what this unsafe driving is doing to the vehicle...i am so disappointed, i am making $500.00 a month payments on a vehicle i cannot and have not been able to drive over the past two years.what's even more troubling i cannot find any recalls on the suspension and i have been reading hundreds of complaints due to this problem online, what is ford doing about this? can someone please tell me if they are working on making this right.

My air suspension went out the first time in march of 2008, it just quit working. I then paid $500 to get it replaced. Then again in 2011 it went out 2 different time, in which this time i had the compressor rebuilt. And again it went out of may of 2012. This time i have not had it replaced, i only drive the suv when i have to. There are so many problems with the air suspensions on the 2003 lincoln navigator that ford should make the part good.

Front air suspension on the passenger side does not work in cold weather, and only works half of the time in warm weather. Truck is very well taken care thru the dealership and has only 76,000 miles and been to the dealer several times for the suspension and right running board. See all over the internet numerous complaints about the same thing, this is clearly a common problem with the model (2003 lincoln navigator). The truck has not been driven in 2 months because of the expense at the dealer to repair.

Air suspension sensor will not stay attached and car height adjustment randomly goes up too high or down too low. If this occurs while in motion it could be very dangerous as the tire can come in contact with the wheel well. Car was taken to dealer and we were told that it would be $2000 to repair. For now the sensor was clipped back on and everything was working fine. A week later sensor came off again and we have figured out how to put it back on ourselves. After doing some research it seems that this is a common problems with this make and model and year of vehicle. Though lincoln did correct the issue with the newer models no attempt has been made on the older models to make a more lasting repair. On line there are tons of reports of people that have had the parts replaced to only find that this did not remedy the issue at hand and more money needed to be spent to attempt to correct it. There are companies that have come up with systems to replace the air suspension with traditional suspension so that multiple repairs can be avoided in the future. This is evidence to me that a defect is known industry wide.

While driving vehicle lowers without warning, causing inadequate suspension.

While driving at any speed consumer heard a noise coming from inside ofthe engine.vehicle was inspected several times, and could not duplicate or correct the problem.

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln navigator. The contact stated that the air rise system on the vehicle failed and was causing the vehicle to bounce abnormally when driving over any type of road bump or uneven road surface. The air rise system was repaired twice, but the failure continued to recur. The dealer advised the contact that the entire air rise system would need to be replaced. The failure mileage was 150,000 and the current mileage was 157,000.

Dt:the contact stated vehicle has front air suspension.while drivingthe front end dropped down too low.this was causing the front tires to rupture.the dealer attempted to repair the vehicle on three different occasions. The dealer replaced the valves, seals, and suspension air bags.he did not know if the last repair has taken care of the problem.

While drivingat 30-40 mphconsumer felt that vehicle rose in the rear and tilted ondriver's side. Vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the cause could not be determined. On another occasion the same thing occurred, but the tilt was on the passenger's side, and again the dealer could not findthe cause.the consumer felt that thesuspension was defective.

2003 lincoln navigator traveling 65 miles an hour and suspension went out rear one this time truck bounced so hard hit my head and truck was uncontrollable we need to sue lincoln. Bought mine in staten island dana motors was in shop 21 times for the suspension they fixed and 3 months later out again last time october cost me 1100 dollars . Very bad truck stuck with payment of a death trap!

Within two weeks, a squeak and a clunk developed in the rear-end of my new vehicle.the dealer told me that the rear differential was missing two of the four bolts that should have been there and that the two bolts that were installed were loose.they said that they had seen a lot of that, because the plants had to manufacture a lot of navigators in a hurry. *la

Owner of suv returned continential tires (255-70r-17, dot unknown) that were part of recall.after inspection only 2 tires were offered at pro-rated price.tire merchant wanted to replace with same recalled continential tires.this is the second set of continental tires that have been pro-rated for vehicle.tires are defective and consumer is requesting total replacement for all five tires.

Rain water leak next to passenger side back rear power window while parked

Without warning the vehicle stalled while the consumer was driving at an undetermined speed.the consumer contacted thedealer on four separate occasions and the problem still continued.when idling the vehicle made a pressure like noise that would get louder, the low oil indicator light would come on, the valves had a tapping sound that was abnormal, there was a metal scraping sound which as if the bottom was going to drop out, there were exhaust noises along with a popping sound, and there was continuous stalling. *scthe consumer stated there was an ongoing dispute regarding the odometer reading.also the brakes and door locked never worked.

A popping sound came from beneath the hood of my 2003 lincoln navigator.after taking the car to my local ford dealership service center, i learned that a spark plug ejected and damaged the cylinder head. The dealership is recommending a new engine for $7,5000 or replacing the cylinder head for$4,200.my vehicle is still covered by an extended warranty through ge capital.however, they refuse to repair the cylinder head (even though fully covered by the warranty) because the damage was caused by a spark plug, which is not covered.

My suspension has airbags that do not work properly. I know other navigator owners that have the same problem. I have had it looked at and worked on but nothing changes.problem somewhere in the system. The airbags do not raise the car and it bounces around while driving. The car is hard to control

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln aviator.while driving 20 mph, the accelerator pedal remained stuck to the floor.the dealer inspected the vehicle and informed the contact that the accelerator cable was fractured.the contact was awaiting repairs to the vehicle.the contact was also awaiting a response from the manufacturer.the approximate failure mileage was 90,300.the vin was unavailable.

When backing up in driveway, 2003 lincoln navigator accelerated extremely with wheels "peeling" and car would not brake.car came to rest after glancing off a tree and ploughing over columns in front of home.car would not start subsequently.

While reversing pedal stuck to the floor, and vehicle experienced sudden acceleration.

Driving on interstate; cruise control set at 70 mph; engine revved to full speed and could not be disengaged by the off or by changing speed of cruise; braking would slow the vehicle temporarily; was only able to stop the vehicle by braking which did not stop the vehicle but slowed it somewhat and then i put the vehicle in neutral and turned off the ignition.vehicle was not able to be driven until it was towed to a dealer and the cruise control was disconnected.it was a very frightening experience.also smelled something burning after the vehicle was stopped.the vehicle was a 2003 lincoln navigator.

My name is kim davis, i purchased a navigator from arkansas and i have been trying to get my truck serviced but i have been getting the run around about it. I do not understand why. When driving the vehicle at any speed, the driver noticed that both side mirrors showed poor visibility when towing a travel trailer. This caused the driver not to see other passing vehicle's. The consumer had made contact with the dealer about this issue. The consumer feels the mirrors should be extended.

Passenger side mirror does not work properly, radio cover has marks on it where it retract into the dash, kick plate inside of the driver's side door is broken, all four doors external patterns are loose, and the front console lock is broken.*mrthe door ajar light illuminated continually after being repaired three times.

Consumer states switch which control the side mirrors are not working properly. Dealer hasreplaced 4 times the module ,and still recurring the problem.

Consumer stated that when opening vehicle doors or when driving, without warning remote marrow would shift in the downward position facing the ground. Dealer and manufacture has been contacted. Please provide further details. *la

While traveling at 40 mph, consumer stated the sunroof broke and hit the driver and passenger in their heads.

The sunroof of my 2003 lincoln navigator has a defect in that in heavy rain the tracks of the sun roof fill with water and overflow into the headliner (interior) and leak into the car from various locations such as the dvd player. This has happened 2 times since ownership.was told by the lincoln dealer that it was a defect in design and they could not fix it. They said they would repair any damage caused by the problem, but only if the car was still "in warranty". There seems to be a problem with the drain holes in the sunroof that does not allow for proper draining.i have talked to one other owner of an ford expedition and found he had the same problem.he was also told it was a design flaw in the sunroof. I think ford was aware of this problem and should have advised me and all others before we purchased the car.everytime it rains heavy the rain leaks into the vehicle and i am afraid it will cause an electrical short and fire in the car. The water travels down the headliner into the dashboard area and also the dvd as stated above. If you can look into this problem and see how many people are effective by this i would apprciate it.i do believe, if you investigate, you will find this is a common problem for all owners of navigators or expiditions and maybe even explorers. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2003 lincoln navigator. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph a noise was in the rear of the vehicle.the contact drove onto the side of the road to determine where the noise was coming from and noticed that the chrome was coming off of the rear drivers side wheel. The chrome peeled to the point where the rim weights were hanging off of the vehicle and hitting the brake caliper. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer and who stated that the rims needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was difficult to drive because the steering wheel was vibrating and made it difficult to control the steering wheel.the contact noticed additional complaints regarding the rims and the manufacturer had not provided any assistance toward the replacement.the failure mileage was 12,200.
