I am writing about two issues with my car:1.i am getting a warning light that indicates that my air bags are not operational.2.i am also being told by my mechanic that the ball joints and sway bar links are defective.[xxx]information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6).
I was traveling in my 2001 lincoln ls when i was struck by another vehicle resulting in my vehicle rolling laterally and also end over end.my car sustained a frontal impact severe enough to result in the structural steel bumper being split in two and the transmission oil cooler, radiator and air-conditioning condenser and associated radiator wall being smashed against the front of the engine.the vehicle is completely destroyed suffering significant damage to all sides of the car excluding the trunk lid, but including the severance of several parts including the right front wheel.the roof of the vehicle has been altered stemming from landing on it, affecting the a and b pillars of the vehicle and buckling the roof itself.i have photos of the vehicle and the physical address of the remains of the car should someone choose to see it.
There is a preventitive air bag recall for my vehical
The contact owns a 2001 lincoln ls. While driving at an unknown speed, the horn was depressed and failed to sound and the air bag warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred continuously. Srs clockspring on lincoln ls 2001 bad clockspring witch controls the airbag system gone bad..
All front airbags and all seatbelts have automatically disengaged and do not work.i have taken the car to three dealerships and was told it would cost me approximately $1,000 for "exploratory" searches to see if it is the module to the airbag.i contacted ford as i felt this should be a safety failure in the car and not a consumer related incident.i was told that ford was not responsible for airbag failure issues and that ford would not cover the charges or pay to have the airbags fixed.the airbags are inoperable.
While driving about 5 mph vehicle swerved across center lane, and side swipedoncoming truck. Damage was $ 7200. After vehicle was repairedsteering wheel was off center,about45 degrees. Dealer then aligned front end. 2 weeks later, wheel went off centeroi other direction by 45 degrees.dealer then foundone lower ball joint missing. And said there was a recall on that component.consumer did not get recall letter , daler checked vin, and this vehicle was not affected.after repair was done, repair bill stated lower ball joint was loose, not missing. Thenwheel was making a clicking sound when turning. Dealer then replaced clock spring assembly and reset airbag.consumer felt incidentwas caused bymissing ball joint.
Seat belts made popping noise while driving and froze up. Not able to pull down. Air bag warning light stays on. Both happened within days of each other
On two occasions my car suspension had failed. I am just lucky i was not on the highway or i could have been fatally wounded. I can not believe i never received any notices about the suspension recall. The first instance i was driving in my driveway and the car completely dropped down on the tires and could not move the vehicle. The second instance i was driving and the suspension fell on a regular road not a fast highway. It had cost me $250.00 to have it towed both times because it could not be moved by driving. In addition the second failure cost me $175.00 because the front tires were ruined. For the repair work on both instances cost me $125.00 each time totaling another $250.00 . So because of someone's failure to tighten nuts it cost me $675.00 , and not to mention the risk of losing my life. Terrifying to say the least.
My air bags lights are always on for no reason, i dont feel safe driving it becauae im scare its goin to brake down on my one day and i have my new born baby with me most of the time i drive the car.
Airbag clock spring went bad on the 2001 lincoln ls this clock spring controls the srs system. I do not think it should be the car owners problem to pay for this part if it goes bad and should be a recall on this part.
Air bag light on won't go off/front suspension making noise (ball joints) horn won't work and window motor broke in 2007 we replaced front driver now we have to replace front passenger.
I was driving on the freeway when i heard a loud sound like a gunshot and white somke everywhere. I turn to the right where my cousin was sitting and think its one of my tires that blew out. So i pull over to find out that my passanger seat airbag deployed for no reason. My cousin was very hurt his shoulder was swollen and is in pain due to the airbag. I almost crashed as well.

Purchased car used but still under manufacturers warranty.it has been in the shop 4 times for this problem and it still is not fixed.have asked for the district representative to look at the car to either replace or refund my money.they have refused to do so.also i was in a loaner ls which was a 2002 model that had the same problem.the airbag light comes on and stays on for periods of times.i suspect that the problem was there when i purchased the car.

Asked the lincoln dealership to check the rotors because when the brakes are pressed there is a pulling back on the car.they diagnosed it to be a defect in the front suspension lower ball joints.i saw that the same model/year had a recall on the front suspension lower ball joints and feel that there must be the same problem in my vehicle (website found recall on - http://auto-recalls.justia.com)they also found that the airbag modules were not working properly.for a car so young in mileage and not used so often there should not be such big problems with it.
Air bag control/ clockspring.the clockspring controls the airbag system in the 2001 lincoln ls 4 door.
I got my car in jan. Of 2004, since then the dealership has seen it more than i have.the airbag light keeps coming on, window regulators keep going out, windows keep geting off track and making awful noises, windows slam shut, and the brakes are squealing but the dealship can never find the problem and when they do 'fix' these problems, a few weeks later they are broke again.i cant keep taking off work for this and the dealer i bought it from wont help me, and because it is a used car, there are no lemon laws. What can i do?help!!!

My 01 lincoln ls 3.9 v8 caught fire while it was sitting in my driveway at 11:30 pm. By the time it was noticed, the entire front half was engulfed. It exploded about 3 times (possibly the airbags exploding). The fire department put the fire out before it reached the fuel tank. I had driven it around an hour before. The most damage was near the driver side front of car near where the headlight and air filter were located. The passenger side of the engine compartment had not burned as intense as the driver side. (the driver side front of the hood had completely burned away..) the fire dept said it possibly started in the engine but the fire had burned so much that they could not be sure. No investigation since i only had liability insurance. I have owned the car since 2008 and have noticed different electrical malfunctions such as radio volume increasing, indicator lights randomly coming on/off (atc, abs, air bag, ect). About one month before fire the car was having issues with not starting and randomly dying as i was driving. The battery was tested and was not the issue. I loved my car but i don't think it was ever free of issues. (window regulators/clips replaced each window twice, oil in cylinders-replaced all cylinders/coils/ect twice, car would lose power/hesitate over 40mph, gas pedal would get stuck if pressed to quicklycausing rpms to surge but car would not go over 25-30 mph and would be extremely hard to stop (it would surge forward and i would have to put all my weight on the brake pedal to keep it from hitting whatever was in front of it) i would temp fix this issue by flicking the idle control lever (which i noticed one of the "e clips" had come off of one of the arms) near the throttle body (which would also get stuck open/closed and have to be cleaned on reg basis.) many more issues not listed here... Beautiful car but definitely a lemon...
Vehicle exhibiting intermittent electrical problems, ground wire replaced on 2/28/2001, by dealership.
Engine stalled during normal operation of the vehicle while traveling approximately 45 mph. Consumer lost controlbefore traveling into a ditch. Dealership has examined vehicle and determined that alternator failed which resulted installing of engine.please provide any additional information / documentation.*note:enginewas previously replaced in september 2001 due to an unknown problem.
Consumer was traveling about 55mph on highway and without prior warning vehicle shut off in middle of the road.vehicle was towed todearlership. Dealership mechanic told her that she needed to replace alternator.
The car has shut down at highway speeds.no known cause.have taken it to the dealership where purchased - could not duplicate, and could not find a cause.it has now happened twice at high speeds.no resolution has been provided.
This car has hadeight incidents in two years of coil packs failing.i have had multiple other problems with this car, ie (brakes, air conditioning electronics...)ford can't get the coil problems fixed.
We own a 2001 lincoln ls - v8.the engine has a coil on each spark plug.the coils are failing at the rate of one a month.when the coils fail the engine misfires and you have to fight with the car to keep it under control as it lurches on the highway.it is really severe in an uphill failure.i have never owned a car with coil failure.the mechanic tells me (and has coil parts to prove it) that this is a severe ford problem.i called ford and they deny any safety issue or wrong doing.i know it is a safety issue and the coils are failing before the recommended spark plug change period!!ford needs to step up and replace these parts.they are defective and put the driver in an unsafe driving condition.
Consumer states that the ignition key is extremely hot when taking it out after driving for 1-2 hours.
While drivingvehicle will completely shutdown without warning, cause unknown.please give any further details.
The electrical coils in the 2001 lincoln ls are a major expense imposed upon the owner. These coild are over 280.00 to replace and usually after replacing one another soon goes out or goes out on the same day as the replaced coil. Alll of the mechanics at lincoln are aware of this problem and said its a major problem with the car. I have replaced 4 of the 8 as today and will be replacing another one this week. I think consumers must be made aware of this problem. I am in the market for purchasing a new car and i mus say, "buyer beware of lincoln-mercury. Hats off to chrylsler, the dealer of all of my previous cars. I had no major problems with none of the 3 cars i purchased from them. I just cannot believe rthis is happening to me and i am sure so many other consumers of this very pretty car that's a lemon!.

The plastic tensioner for timing chain broke due to being made of plastic.internal parts should not be plastic.although no accident, car is disabled.whoever built those cars, have no regard for safety.
The contact owns a 2001 lincoln ls. While driving 55 mph, the engine overheated and stalled. Additionally, the contact stated that the driver's door handle fractured. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed by an independent mechanic. The mechanic was unable to retrieve a fault code. The contact was informed that the antifreeze reservoir needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 99,999.
The plastic tensioners that the manufacturer put in broke causing a huge engine misfire.the vehicle had these plastic tensioners but a recall should have happened as it appears someone knew about this since manufacturer came up with generation ii and generation iii and these added generations, are made of metal which should have been in placed when they first built the engine.awesome engine, lousy tensioners that at high speeds, could have cause me to lose control and perhaps got into an accident or killed myself or kill some one else.please let me know if there is a recall for these tensioners. I am about to spend 1,500 top replace them.
I own a 2001 lincoln mercury ls v-8 with 72,678 miles on the odometer .. Frequently (within the last several months) i have experienced sudden and uncontrolled acceleration when driving the vehicle around town in the 25-45 mph speed range.hitting the brakes fails to override the acceleration.the only solution to prevent an accident or to slow the vehicle is to throw the automatic gear shifter into neutral and clear the acceleration with a hard press on the accelerator while the car is neutral.the other remedy is to turn off the ignition while in traffic.neither one of these solutions is acceptable and ford/lm denies that this issue exists on any of their vehicles dating back 10-15 years.my previous vehicle was a 2000 crown victoria and i experienced the very same issue after the vehicle had exceeded 60,000 miles.ford/lm is well are of these issues and has failed to publicly acknowledge them for fear of liability and the cost to repair the issue.please advise what an owner should do in this situation.i believe a class action lawsuit has recently been filed against ford/lm on behalf of owners who are experiencing this problem.in the mean time the company fails to repair the vehicle under a government ordered recall or warranty.
Several engine misfires causedby leaking oil.coil packs, boots, spark plugs, and the ignition switch have been replaced.on separate occasions, we have fixed the rear and driver sidewindows which fell in the window tracks, the trunk release was repaired, the rear view mirror shook when driving and the brakes are still squeaking since we bought the car.
2000 to 2006lincoln ls all have misfire problems , coming from faulty valve cover gaskets, 2000 to 2006 ford t-birds have same problem, only thing is the lincoln didn't made the recall list . Same engine though, seems that the valve cover gasket leaks oil into spark plug wells causing short and misfire.
The contact owns a 2001 lincoln ls. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who informed the contact that he would need to replace the engine due to the timing chain tensioner being fractured. The vehicle was repaired. Dt: the car had a noise in theright front tire that started 2 weeks after the car was bought.the car has been repaired at least 5 times.still makes noise and soundsas if the whole front is falling apart. Currently, using oil more than normal, has been checked oil leaks and found none.the engine has an idle miss, and every time startingit has white smoke, this is been going on since january 2003. Dealer has repaired the car with lots of parts, but it is still not fixed.and still using oil, when driving over 60 mph the check engine light comes on. The contact owns 2001 lincoln ls. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated and the vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection.the dealer replaced the spark plugs and the failure seemed to be remedied however, the vehicle then began to backfire and drive abnormally rough. In addition, the engine would exhibit abnormal noises and an overpowering oil odor.the vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the contact was informed that the head gasket and coil springs would need replacing. The failure mileage was 105,000 and the current mileage was 108,000.

Dt: this vehicle has 8 coils in it. Its has been to the dealers 8 times. They replaced the coils in the engine #'s4,6,7, and 2. This first time this happenedwas on september3,2003.contacted the manufacturer, they say nothing they could do. This was not a dependable vehicle. The dealer stated that if one coilfailed, they allwill fail.
2001 lincoln ls with v8.vehicle had 70,000 miles when purchased one year ago, now has 102,000.i have had multiple engine misfires (which causes the vehicle to stall or sputter during acceleration,) which resulted in me having to replace the coil on plug assemblies and spark plugs.the reason these coil packs go bad is because of a defective valve cover gasket, which leads to oil getting in the spark plug wells.ford has recognized the valve cover gaskets from the factory are faulty, because the replacement gaskets they manufacture are made of a better material.there should be a recall on both valve cover gaskets and the coil on plug assemblies.i noticed that the ford thunderbirds use the same 3.9l v8 engine, has the same problem, and ford has issued a recall for the valve cover gaskets on these engines, just not for the lincoln ls.
While driving vehicle went through a puddle of water and died out.the dealership indicated this was caused by water getting into the engine motor and blowing it.please provide more details. Ts
Vehicle will shut off without prior warning, especially when there is water instreet.the dealership is aware ofproblem.
Mis-firing coils due to faulty design of valve cover gaskets.had to replace all 8 coils and valve cover gasket seals.parts $$ over 800, labor for work was another $1000.
During my 2nd oil/filter change, the mechanic decovered oil on the compressor.i took the car in on tues 05/29/01.i was told that the right head gasket was leaking and that lincoln would have to replace w/ new engine, because that was the policy of lincoln.when ipicked my car up on 06/13/01, much to my surprise the ticket indicated a "remanufactured" engine.i'm wondering how many miles, etc this engine has on it???
The contact owns a 2001 lincoln ls.the contact stated that the throttle body assembly, which leads from the accelerator to the motor, completely fell apart.as a result, the vehicle shut off and the accelerator pedal went all the way to the floor.she was able to coast to the side of the road.she took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that in order to repair the component, the entire unit needed to be replaced.a police report was filed.in addition the contact heard the sound of glass cracking when attempting to roll up the window.she stated that the window fell down into the door panel.the dealer stated that nothing could be done because it was not under warranty.as a result, the replacer unit of the automatic windows unit was replaced.the contact also stated that the coil that leads to the transmission needed to be replaced, however, the warranty was expired.the current mileage is 110,000 and failure mileage was 90,000.
My 2001 lincoln ls v8 has been in the shop numerous times, way more than i can remember. There has been issues with the ignition coils, hydraulic fans, starter, coil pads. This has all been repaired with numerous amounts of dollars. I can no longer afford to keep up with this car. There is constant miss fires and bad shifting.

The car was running out of coolant very fast. Then the check engine light kept coming on. You can smell fumes coming through the heating vents. Took it to the dealer & oil is mixing with the spark plugs & with a water midst. Bought the car in 09/2005 with 39,000 miles. Engine needs replaced at 67,000 miles. Haven't been able to drive the car in 5 months. Estimate cost to replace with a used engine is $3,794.60. The dealer sold this car in this condition. They need to recall all the lincoln ls.
Stalling at idle, engine codes 171,174 both banks lean fuel mixture. Repaired at dealer $450 for pvc hose failure. Others have the same failure.
While stopped in traffic or waiting at a stop sign, the engine suddenly picks up acceleration to 4-5 thousand rpm - this overpowers the break power and the vehicle forces itself ahead or into traffic - only flipping the gear shift into neutral averted a disaster.. The acceleration cycle lasted 15-20 seconds.
Consumer states that the valve cover gasket leaks causing fumes to come up through the vent. Please provide any additional information. Ts

My headlights fill up with water whenever any water is present.if it rains or i wash the car both headlights leak water in the assembly.i have had as much as 1/2" of water in the headlight assemblies.i have to remove the assemblies and drain the water through the bulb socket holes then reinstall them.this is a safety problem and someone is going to have an accident because of this.there is a possiblity of someone having water in the light assemblies and while driving at night they could hit a bump and cause the headlights to fail because of the water splashing on the bulbs and burning out, i had this experience, with one bulb. Someone is going to a fatal crash because of this, it's just a matter of time.lincoln customer service center is not concerned about the problem and told me to pay to have their poor design replaced with new lenses as recommended by my dealer.

Car transmission suddenly stopped working, and the car would not move.now only drive and reverse work, so the car starts off in drive and accelerates very slowly.does not shift to overdrive or downshift to lower gears.replaced solenoid block for $400 and have it in transmission shop now.mechanic clears codes, and all failure codes then reappear the moment the engine is started.
Automatic transmission....no previous signs or signals of fault.turned left in front of on coming traffic and transmission slipped out of gear.later found that the transmission will not shift from 2nd to 3rd .it now happens all the time.
Transmission first began shifting roughly into reverse, jerking the vehicle backward.then the transmission also began rough shifts into 1st and 2nd gear.pcm was reprogrammed by dealer 8/04.problem began to occur even worse.returned to dealer and dealer performed engine diagnositc, then did this: "ac bdy asy-trans sol shft&throt" plus some extras.
2001 lincoln ls has an e that will not go away and every time it shifts to the next gear it almost jerks i just bought this car and now it is messing up.
My 2001 lincoln ls hesitates when shifting from 1st gear to second, sometimes it even shakes.
Transmission problems - gears are hard to shift while driving, gears take long time to switch between p, d, rtransmissionhisitated to switch gears.i looked and did some research on the internet and saw alot of lincoln ls owners having the same problem.i think this is not right, that someone buys a high end car and has to face problems such as these without a recall from the dealership because it would cost toomuch.
I currently drive a 2001 lincoln ls. This car has been a complete nightmare and is completely unsafe! the shifting on this car is completely erratic and is in no way safe. I know multiple people who have the same problem with this car and lincoln is no help. They will not and can not fix or solve this problem. Their only answer is to replace the transmission and when that is done the problem comes back! while driving on the highway at 85 mph my car decides to cut out on me and display an error message. I almost got into an accident. The only thing that saved me is that the car behind we was able to swerve out of the way. My car automatic transmission no longer know how to shift gears properly. It idles in between gear changes and at times takes minutes to actually switch gears and speed up the engine. Most of the time all that will happen is the rpms will raise to 4500 and i will not move at all. This is a recurring problem with tons and tons of people who have bought this car.
2001 ls lincoln transmissioni believe my lincoln ls is unsafe to drive do to the fact that the shifting is erratic. This car has actually cut out on me on the highway all lights power steering everything and gave me an error message. The message stated gear shifting error. I bought an automatic to elevate my bad shifting and now my automatic does not know how to shift gears c'mon!!!!!!my dealer doesn't know what to do why are they registered as a lincoln dealer if they cant fix lincolns. This caused an accident when our daughter drove it on wet roads. This also caused my wife to loose control on a snow covered highway. Very lucky it stopped and she regained control.i personally thought it cant do such a thing but it also done it to me on dry pavement and can realized how bad it can be on wet or snow conditions.

When approaching a stop the brakes do not hold.this is an intermittent problem and no common denominators can be found.the car will slow down when braking, but on occasion the car will continue moving even when brakes are fully applied, causing the vehicle to run stop signs, intersections, and rear ending other vehicles.also when braking it takes a long distance to do so.

I bought my 2001 lincoln ls in july, 2004 with only 19,027 miles. The vehicle has ongoing problems with the breaks, which at times the pedal will slowly fall through. I have been complaining to the dealer while it was under the warranty who said," there is no problem." after that i spent a lot of money replacing the breaks. The problem even after that was still there. I went into another lincoln dealer on 4/07/2005& complained about the problem to the service guy. I left him the vehicle there because there was another issue other than the brakes. The other problem was fixed, but when he turned the vehicle on in the morning & stepped on the brake to reverse it, sure enough the brake pedal fell right through. The dealer contacted me & said, " i can definitely see your problem now." i washappy that they found the problem, which was the brake master cylinder. They supposedly fixed the problem, which came back, & the upsetting thing was that my warranty has ran out. I took my vehicle on saturday, december 3, 2005 to a mechanic.the mechanic told me that he did see a leak between the brake fluid filler & the brake master cylinder, & he doesn't believe it's the brake master cylinder anymore & now it might be the whole system. I contacted the lincoln head quarters to come to the solution because one, my warranty is out, &the other is that the lincoln dealer that i took the vehicle to get the master cylinder replaced is out of business. They have told me to take it to a ford dealer for free inspection because the master cylinder is covered under a 12 month. Warranty, which was a lie because the ford dealer charged me for the inspection due to them stating, "there is no problems found here." the service guy did see something in the brake fluid floating, which they don't know what it is and if it has contaminated the brake system. I did pay $27.00 dollars for a non-contaminated bottle for the sample of the brake fluid to be sent out to the lab for testing.

Instantly the drivers side front end dropped causing me to lose control of the steering. Snatched the steering wheel hard to the left out of my hands causing me to cross opposing traffic into a ditch sliding into the front of a concrete pipe leading under the street. While applying the brakes in the grass car smashed into the edge of the concrete pipe. Had car brought to our home. Jacked up drivers side front this morning and found the lower ball joint had came out of the lower control arm it is busted as well as the tire, rim, front steel cross member that mounts the lower control arm is bent. Wiped out the oil pan causing all the oil to leak out also damaging the rear lower control arm mount which is aluminum. Plus busting the front bumper cover/ lower air dam. Driving lights. Cannot find if our car was recalled and fixed per your recall concerning improperly tightened lower ball joints. Unable to find any information from ford motor company north america. Now we are without a car to get to work. Now we have no idea how to proceed. Luckily there were no on coming cars avoiding a head on crash. This is my wife's car which my children ride in. Looked at passenger side lower ball joint and it looks to be coming out of the lower control arm as well. Car is in drive way with both front tires removed sitting on jack stands.*ln
I was driving my car, after driving home from work (approx. 70 miles round-trip). While turning i heard a loud crunch and then felt a hard thud, my vehicle was difficult to steer, felt another crunch. I pulled into a parking stall, after parking my vehicle, another loud crunch, the driver's side wheel had fallen off and was wedged into the wheel well. On march 12th, 2012 my repair facility informed me about the items that need replaced: upper and lower left front ball joints, front outer tier rod ends, new fuel filter- damaged in the incident, two new tires & an alignment. I realized how lucky i was that this did not occur while driving down the road. I conducted google search on 2001 lincoln ls suspension problems, i was stunned on the amount of safety related hits out there (suspension related), i realized that this was not isolated to just my vehicle, there were pages-of-pages of people that experienced similar suspension problems with their 2001 lincolns. There was a suspension related recall: lincoln / ls 2000-2001, ford motor company, date: nov 01, 2000 nhtsa campaign id number: 00v359001 n/a nhtsa action number: n/a component: suspension: front: control arm: lower ball joint, number of affected: 82,300 summary: vehicle description: passenger vehicles. The front suspension lower ball joints were not tightened to specifications when they were attached to the lower control arms. Consequence: if the ball joint attaching nuts are not adequately tightened, they can loosen and, ultimately, result in fracture of the ball joint stud. If the ball joint fractures, control of the vehicle could be affected, increasing the risk of a crash. Remedy: dealers will inspect the torque on the two ball joint attaching nuts. Vehicles with loose ball joint attaching nuts will either have the fasteners tightened to specification, or if necessary, the ball joints will be replaced.

I am a 66 yr old widow, owner of a 2001 ls purchased june 2001, a recall fix was to have been done before my purchase in march of 2001 to correct a problem with ball joints. I read online that many of these vehicles have the damage that was suppose to be corrected for when they get to about 67000 miles, i am at 67000 miles, took my car in for inspection and need an 1800 dollar fix to correct the issue that was suppose to be avoided by the recall. Ford said, too long ago, no warranty beyond the normfor recall fixes. I can not believe with the amount of evidence that these cars all require a fix at 67000 miles that ford isn't forced to address this dangerous condition. I also don't know if it's safe to drive a while longer, i just don't know how they got away with a recall that did not provide the fix.

We own a 2001 lincoln l.s.. While making a right hand turn in a curve last night i heard a loud cracking sound come from the drivers side front suspension.
I was told today while i was getting the oil changed on my vehicle that the front lower ball joints were very loose, and that i was lucky that my front tired hadn't fallen off yet. After speaking with the manager he referred me to ford because of the recall on the suspension that he knew about. He though that my car should qualify considering the severity of the condition that they were in. After speaking with several people at ford i was informed that even though i was having the same problem as described in the recall that my car 's vin number did not qualify. I don't understand that at all. My car is the same year, make , and model, with the same dangerous situation.

When i was aware of the recall on my car i took it to the dealer in 2006 for repair i was told that the ball joint was previously inspected and that was all that would be done. Since the inspection both ball joints failed and almost cause a accident . My complaint is that ford motor co. Should be responsible for replacing the ball joints.
2001 lincoln ls--front passenger wheel-there was alot of squeaking noises coming from the wheel before incident occurred.yesterday, going through a drive-thru, i heard a pop. 2001 lincoln ls, lower ball joint failure while driving!!!, there is a recall related to this issue 00s39, but my vehicle according to ford, by vin did not fall under the current recall? my real question is why? some back ground on my incident i was driving on the freeway at 65 mph, heard and felt a change in the steering, pulled over and as i was coming to a stop the right lower ball joint stud broke in half, if this would have happened 30 seconds sooner (going 65 mph) i could have easily lost control of the vehicle at freeway speeds, i had the vehicle towed to my shop, i am a owner of a repair facility for the last 10 years, and am a ase certified master technician, with over 23yrs of experience working on vehicles. I inspected the vehicle and found the holes (both right and left sides) in the aluminum lower control arms over sized from the ball joint stud being loose and moving inside the lower control arm. This is an obviously dangerous engineering/manufacturing error, steel ball joint studs passing through a aluminum control arm without a steel reinforced sleeve in the control arm? with the constant movement and dissimilar metals, keeping a proper torque on the ball joint stud is almost impossible. They have a nylock/self locking nut on the ball joint stud so it won't back off all the way, but coming loose/losing torque and moving inside the lower control arm until it snaps off is inevitable. My professional opinion from my years of experience is the current recall needs to be expanded before someone gets killed or seriously injured. To repeat after performing my own inspection and as a professional in the automotive industry, this is a serious safety defect that needs to be recalled and repaired by ford. Please take this report seriously as i feel my life was in real danger and i know others are in danger as well... Jim oldham, owner automotive solutions, ase master technician.
Lincoln ls 2001 lower ball joint were not tightened to specifications.
2001 lincoln ls has a recall notice #00v359001 for front ball joints not being tightened to spec causing failure.my vehicle vin number does not appear to be listed, however the ball joints failed causing $1800 worth of damage.i know that manufacturers can not determine exactly what cars were effected and what cars were not, so to exclude my vehicle from the repair does not make sense.with just 100,000 miles on a car that has been driven by a couple in the mid 50's the ball joints should not have failed to the point where the sway bar was also damaged.my wife and i could have been seriously injured if i did not fix the rattling noise coming from the front end of the vehicle.
Air bag light on won't go off/front suspension making noise (ball joints) horn won't work and window motor broke in 2007 we replaced front driver now we have to replace front passenger.

The lincoln ls was purchased july 1, 2001. First incident happened in sept. 2005.we were traveling back from colorado when we noticed that the car was floating.we made it back to arizona and took the car to our service company.they found that the under-torque condition loosened the lower ball joint lock nut.they tightened and repaired.at that time we extensive wear on our new front tires that had less than 12000 miles on them.on nov. 11, 2005 i was driving, thelower left ball joint completely severed from the car making the wheel turned to a horizontal position (sideways) denting the left fender and the car dragged to a stop. We then found out that there had been a recall on the this particular model produced at the wixom assembly plant because of the problems i listed. We have a total bill of $1,421.69 to fix this problem, also the purchase of two tires with less than 12000 miles.the damage to the tires was caused by the floating and the lack of steering control.we, however, did not get a recall letter because the window for recalls had closed, but the problems we experienced are identical to the recall letter.we have contacted the lincoln and they say that there is nothing they can do at their level and they suggested we contactyou and the ford motor compny which i did. All to no avail.
Was driving down the highway, thought i had a blowout on a tire, slowed down and then the lower ball joint separated from thesuspension. The car was not able to be driven. And stuck on the highway. A city crew was able to jack up the car, they found that the nut on the ball joint was still on the suspension. They reconnected the ball joint and i was able to drive away. Have since replaced the ball joint. It was now bad . You can pull up and down on it.the ball joint separated because the nut back off, there was no damage to any threads and the crew was able to reuse the same nut.

1) nhtsa campaign id number 00v359001, i purchased a 2001 lincoln ls in june of this yr 2004.a month after purchasing this vehicle where the mileage was over waranty, i suffered steering issues that was unsafe for driving the vehicle pulling erratically ect.i took the car to holman lincoln mercury of pompano fl, where they diagnosed my problem being the suspensionfront lower control arm and ball joint needed to be replaced.i payed for the repair not knowing that there was a recall on this part in the past.now just 3 days ago i noticed that my steering was getting loose once again and had a mechanic diagnose the problem.turns out to be the exact same problem, but instead of it being on the left side it has now occured on the right side.i went home to investigate this issue with the internet and found out that there was a recall on my carwith this issue.the car was brought in by prior owner and was relased fixed supposidly.it was said that the vehicles nuts where re tightned. Now that i own the vehicle this defect has cost be over 1000 dollars in damages, and i would like a refund due to it being a manufacturer defect.holman lincoln mercury of pompano will not do so, so now i am filing this complaint.
I was traveling at 70 mph when my front lower ball joint came apart tearing my cars fender off and ruining my tire and wheel . I could have been killed.
Last summer i started having problems with ball joints continuously coming loose on my used 2001 lincoln ls. I went on the internet and discovered that there were over 82300 recalss for this exact problem. I tried to get it fixed but was told the recalls were vin specific. Obviously this exact problem coninues to reoccur on my car and i have to continuously retighten the ball joints myself. On 12-29-07 i was traveling down the interstate at 70 mph when the ball joints completely split in half causing me to loose control of the car, spun me and 3 riders around in the road and landed us in the median. But for the grace of god no one was injured or worse yet killed. I contacted ford human relations and explained the problem an mentioned the recalls but was very rudely told that it was up to the customer to make the repairs. I don't understand what the problem is when there is a recall on this make and model of car and this has reportedly been a continuous recurring problem for me.ford does not appear to care. Meantime the car sits, and will be sitting until this gets resolved satisfactorily and ford stands behind it.

Loud warbling noise coming from back end of vehicle. Dealer changed rear differential housing which fixed some of the problems but also had to replace both rear wheel bearings. Total cost $3,000 for a vehicle with only 71,000 miles on it. How is it possible that a properly designed and built vehicle can require such a substantial fix after so few miles? i maintain that the design is flawed, forcing the bearings to sit not square on the wheels and the gears to grind in the differential. This is a design problem that ford should fix.
The contact owns a 2001 lincoln ls.while driving 20 mph, the contact heard a screeching noise coming from the rear of the vehicle.upon further inspection, he noticed that the rear driver's side wheel subframe was rusted, which caused the lower control arm to fail.the vehicle was towed and the tow driver observed that the opposite rear frame also failed.the vehicle was towed to the dealer and they stated that the subframe was rusted out.the vehicle has not been repaired.the contact would not provide compensation because the warranty was expired.the failure mileage was 76,000.

Vehicle started to accelerate to speeds of 60 mph and idles of 3000 rpm beforeconsumer finally shut vehicle off.this happened when consumer was in traffic and started to move. Contacted dealer.
After backing up, stopping and placing vehicle into the "d" position. Vehicle accelerated to full throttle. Brake application did nothing to slow vehicle until within second and few hundred feet, vehicle came to rest into a tree. Vehicle was destroyed, injuries incurred. Although this was a '01 lincoln, ford came out with recall on '01 escape with identical issue two days after this crash, blaming the cruise control unit.
I am a 57 year old registerd nurse. I went to work at saint elizabeths hospital in brighton. I stopped at the parking garage entrance to get a parking ticket. When the arm went and i be gan to pull in to the garage the gas pedal went right to the floor the engine began to race uncontrolably . I had both feet pressed firmly on the brake pedal trying to stop the car. It raced forward with the wheels screeching on the garage floor, i was terrified. The car hit a parked car with such force that it spun the car 180 degrees around. All during this time 5 to 10 seconds and about 100 feet the engine was racing as if the gas pedal was floored. Both my feet were firmly on the brake pedal trying to stop the car. I hope someone takes this complaint seriously and makes the dealer fix this car before i or someone else gets killed. I am terrified that this may happen again, and i am thouroughly upset that this is not being taken seriously. I see from your board that i am not the only person that has had this problem. Ts

The contact owns a 2001 lincoln ls. The contact stated that he would engage the cruise control; yet, when he wanted to turn it off he had to apply the brakes. Prior to this failure he could turn it off by pressing the button on the steering wheel. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure regarding the cruise control. The vehicle was not repaired. The vin was not available. The failure mileage was 98,000 and the current mileage was 104,000.
While in traffic with foot onbrake rpms went to 2000,consumer could feel car pulling forward.consumerhad toshift car in park.took to dealer, andthey didn't know what thecause was.please provide anyfurther information.
Visibility:power window devices and controls i have had the rear passenger window regulator replaced twice and the front passenger window regulator once.the first rear window by ford while under warranty, the second rear window at 60,000 miles and the front passenger regulatorwindow at 70,000 miles.
Dt*:the contact stated all four windows fall down.the front driver and passenger side window motors and frames have been replaced.the windows continues to fail.also, the rear windows have the same problem.although there have been repairs, the contact is unaware of the repairs made to the windows.
I replaced the right rear window regulator in september 2004. Today the left rear window regular went out. I transport my kids in this car and the window does not work. I just got the vehicle out of the shop two weeks ago. I can not afford to continue to repair this faulty vehicle. I finally made the decision to purchase an american made vehicle. Can you please issue a recall on the window regulators before my children or others get injured. I will be taking the vehicle to the dealer to pay approximately $400.00. Thank you for your time in dealing with this matter.
In august of 2005, the warranty on my car was going to expire.i took the lincoln ls to the dealership to have them check the car over.i told them that 2 of my windows were making strange noises.when i would lower or roll up the windows it made a clicking sound and the windows kind of slammed shut.the very next week, my drivers side window fell down into the door and it wouldn't work!it made this horrible grating sound like the window had broken inside the door.i took the car to the dealership, where is cost me almost 400 dollars to get the window repaired and the service manager told me there had been many problems with the windows on the lincoln ls's.i now have two more windows making that same clicking noise and slamming shut when i use the window, so basically, i am unable to use the windows in my car because i can't fork out 800 dollars to get the windows fixed.the front side passenger window has started falling down 1/2 to inch even when no one is using the window.this is a huge problem and a safety issue.if i were in a wreck, i have no assurance that the windows would work properly if i were trapped in my car.itsa safety issue in rainy weather, it is difficult to concentrate on driving when the window comes down and rain is pouring into the car.i have leather seats and rain would mess up my seats.it is also a safety issue during the summer and hot weather- suffocation could occur if i were trapped in the car!i have read literally 100's of complaints about this issue with the windows on the lincoln ls's.this is supposedly a luxury car- shouldn't lincoln be required to fix this problem once and for all so people can feel safe and use their car for the purpose it was bought instead of having to keep in it the shop every 2 or 3 months?
I own a 2001 lincoln ls.in the three years i have owned the vehicle, the rear power window has burned out three times, most recently today.this is obviously a faulty part of the vehicle.admittingly, the dealership stated that several vehicles had experienced the same, however no recall has been issued. The first incident during the first year of ownership was under waranty.the second occurence was split in cost this past august and now they are advising that they refuse to repar, despite the fact that it is the same equipment.they stated that i have exceeded the 12 months/12,00 miles.what can i do?
Both rear window regulators failed.the replacement window regulator on the rear left failed and resulted in a shattered window which then damaged the door paint.shoddy repair work then led to further problems with the paint and finish.the faulty window regulators appear to be a chronic problem, since i know of another ls owner with the same chronic problem.this problem at the wrong time or place can result in serious safety and security issues.does not give one a good feeling about when this could happen again.the fixapplied does not appear to be any better thatn the original equipment that failed.ford needs to develop a solid fix for this luxury vehicle with windows that do not operate properly.
The contact owns a 2001 lincoln ls. Whenever the contact drove the vehicle and began to decelerate, the front end of the vehicle pulled to the left which was followed by a grinding sound. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where the contact was informed that the front wheel hub/axle bearing and hub assembly needed to be replaced. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 65000. Updated 5/12/10 the left window regulator was replaced. Updated 05/14/10.
Intermittentlywindshield wipersstopped working. Dealerreplaced the windshield wiper motor. Also, the new motor malfunctioned.manufacturer was informed of the problem.
Driver's side rear view mirror shimmies and shakes over bumps but the passenger side does not. Rear view mirror does the same and is very distracting. I am being told this is a normal occurrence with this car, and i have owned lincoln continentals since 1984 and none have done this ,and also i have a ford explorer which does not do this on the same roads.
While driving the head lights went out without warning. *nlm the seat belts would bind and did not retract, the windshield cracked (across) due to stress and was replaced, the vehicle lock system was replaced twice, the front headlamp was replaced twice due to condensation, and the windshield wiper system failed and was replaced as well. *scc

The contact owns a 2001 lincoln ls. While driving approximately 25 mph over a roadbump, the contact lost slight control because the vehicle began to abnormally sway from left to right. In addition, the four wheel rims installed on the vehicle were corroded near the hub. The dealer was notified of the failure and they informed the contact that the vin was not included in the recall associated with nhtsa campaign id number 00v359001 (suspension: front: control arm: lower ball). There was also a manufacturer voluntary recall on the wheel rims but the vin was ineligible. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 148,000.
- the contact owns a 2001 lincoln ls. While driving at approximately 2 mphthe wheel caved in. The car was towed to the dealer and repaired. The mechanic state the failure was due to the lower ball joints, and provided the contact with a copy of recall #00v359001. The contact calledford, who stated the recall was not related to this vehicle. The contact felt ford wasn'taccepting responsibility for the incident.the contact will further investigate, and was concerned about the safety risk involved as the incident could have beendevastating if it had occurred while driving at at a much faster speed.updated 03/30/07.
2001 lincoln ls--front passenger wheel-there was alot of squeaking noises coming from the wheel before incident occurred.yesterday, going through a drive-thru, i heard a pop. I got out and inspected the vehicle. The fender was resting on the tire. I called a tow truck and as he was trying to put the car on the tow truck, he showed me the damage. The bolt that holds the ball joint and control arm to the wheel came off. Please investigate this for me, and contact me when you find something out! thx
One lugwas sheared off and the other lug nuts were loosened.this could have caused the wheel to comeoff of the car at high speed.it is unclear if the lug sheared first and then the remaining lug nuts loosened or if the lug nuts were first loose and then the lug sheared.
Road wheel lug nut design used on certain my2001 lincoln ls sedans is dimensionally unstable, growing in size over time and making it impossible to remove and/or secure with the correct wheel brace or socket tool.following a puncture and subsequent replacement of 4 tires on my vehicle due to normal wear, all 20 nuts also had to be replaced as they could only be removed by force. Dealer informed me that tsb exists for this issue, but no formal recall.note: 1 sample of defective nut available upon request.
The caps on the lug nuts on the front wheels is striped causing it tobedifficult to change the tire. Ts
We have a2001 lincoln ls sport v-8 with the sport 17 inch chrome wheels. The wheels are defective. For some reason lincoln designed the rims with chrome on the inside which over time, bubbles and corrodes. It constantly causes the tires to go flat and cuts them up. It is ridiculous that there is not a recall on this problem as i have heard many people having trouble with these specific chrome 17 inch wheels. Of course during the 2003 design, the wheels were changed. Why no recall on such a serious problem??? it is causing alot of grief over something as simple as wheels and tires.
